A Retrieved Reformation By O Henry
District Common Assessment
Around 400,000 robberies occur every year (fbi.gov). In the short story A Retrieved
Reformation By: O. Henry, Jimmy Valentine was a criminal who moved to Elmore, a small town
in Arkansas, looking for a fresh start. He changed his name and fell in love with the bank owner

was going to give up his robbing bank tools so he would be able to change for his fiance. On his
way to give away the tools Jimmy went to the bank to observe the new vault, a child got trapped

He changed his name when he first came to town so the cops would not be able to find him also
so no one would suspect he was a robber. This argument is invalid because the detective Ben
Price found Jimmy and thought that he was a changed man so Ben did not arrest him. In the
letter Jimmy lied about going to Little Rock to give away his tools he actually was going to rob
another bank. There is no evidence to support that Jimmy was going to Little Rock to rob another
bank. Finally Jimmy did not change for Annabel he only acted different so she would like Jimmy
and he would be able to get close to the bank to rob it. Jimmy fell in love with Annabel the first
time he saw her, Annabel thought fondly of him so Jimmy was not only acting different to rob the
bank. All of these arguments can not be supported by evidence so Jimmy was able to change.
Since Jimmy Valentine wanted to change for his fiance, was going to give away his bank
robbing tools and changed his name so he could have a fresh start, Jimmy Valentine is a new,
changed man. Jimmy Valentine did receive a fresh start he opened his own shoe shop, the shoe
shop prospered. He also got engaged to Annabel Adams. Finally Jimmy saved a girl who was
trapped in a vault. About only 2% of robberies each year are bank robberies

The Wind Of The Willows, By Kenneth Grahame
Journeys provoke travellers, that may ultimately lead to transformation of self and leave the
traveller far richer for the experience
In both The Wind in the Willows, and Journey to the Interior, the idea that journeys may provoke
travellers and ultimately lead to transformation of self and richer experiences, is clearly exhibited
within. Depending on an entity s current perspective, they may either embody provocative views,
such as the Rat in the Wind in the Willows and also the persona in Journey to the Interior, or even
have an accepting perspective to journey, such as the character of Toad. Through the use of tone,
symbolism and also truncated sentences, the quote is partially accurate in The Wind in the
Willows, but completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, because of the nature of the character of Rat, it is clear that this individual despises and
fears the idea of journey, showcasing how an entity s current perspective, can impede on their view
on, and appreciation of journey.
Moreover, in The Wind in the Willows, the idea that journey can lead to transformation of self, and
rich experiences is exhibited in Toad s ecstatic perception of journey. In this extract of the novel,
Toad believes that adventure is the only means of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life;
That s real life for you, embodied in that little cart . The cart is symbolic of Toad s ambitious nature,
which is manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and
adventure. This optimistic view on journey proves that transformation of self and rich experiences
is attained by undertaking journey. Toad illustrates an image of journey as being something life
changing; Travel, change, interest, excitement! The whole world before you and a horizon that s
always changing . The cumulative listing of the intangible rewards associated with journey,
emphasizes how adventure can lead to richer experiences . Additionally the metaphoric phrase of
the changing horizon represents Toad s intention of adventure and acceptance of and fearfulness of
change. Subsequently, because of Toad s optimistic and accepting perspective on journey, the quote

Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages
Programming Languages
Definition of the term program
A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a
computer to carry out a task and how to it.
Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs
In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow
the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These
paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated.
Applications that can be developed using these paradigms
Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step.
Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or
subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural
programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are
also known as top down languages.
Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a
program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step
instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming
languages are all procedural.
The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do,
and how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or

Essay on Dealing With Stress
Dealing With Stress Before we look at different methods of dealing with stress we must first
define stress and find out what causes stress. There are 3 definitions of stress: 1. The response
definition: this is Selye s approach; it means that any stimulus that causes a stress response is by
definition, a stressor. 2. The stimulus definition: This definition argues that we can agree that
certain events are stressful, so therefore any reaction they provoke can be called a stress response.
Unfortunately there are individual differences and we cant assume that what one person is stressed
by everyone else is also stressed by. 3. The transactional model: This... Show more content on

no different, they can cause drowsiness and affect the human memory. * The drugs treat the
symptoms of stress and not the causes. Most problems are psychological so drugs may prevent
the patient from discovering the source of the stress and prevent it from continuing. Another
method of dealing with stress and stressors is the idea of Hardiness . Kobassa stated that the
concept of Hardiness is central to understanding why some people are vulnerable to stress and
stress related illnesses, and others are not. Hardiness includes a range of personality factors,
which, if present, provide a defence against the effects of stress. These factors are: * Control:
The belief that you have control of what happens in your life and all your actions decide what
happens to you. * Commitment: This is a sense of involvement in the world around you. *
Challenge: This is where people see life changes as challenges that can be overcome, or as
opportunities, rather then as threats and stressors. Kobasa has presented evidence at people who
have high scores on scales that measure Hardiness are significantly less likely to suffer from stress
related physical and psychological disorders, then those

Refashions The Torah s Narrative Into A Confessional Book
The Zohar refashions the Torah s narrative into a mystical novel. On one level, the biblical heroes
are the protagonist, and the rabbis interpret their words, their personalities, and their encounters
with holy or demonic forces. The commentary is often far removed from the literal meaning of the
biblical text. The words of Torahare a starting point, a springboard for the imagination. At times the
commentators become the main characters, and we read about dramatic study sessions with Rabbi
Shim on or about the rabbis adventures on the road. Moses remained in Guadalajara until at least
1291, and from there he began circulating the Zohar. He did not distribute entire copies of the
book, just portions. This is indicated in the diary of Isaac... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the Sef ha Zohar written mainly between 1280 and 1286 by Moses b. Shem Tov de Leon
in Guadalajara, a small town northeast of Madrid. In this city there also lived two kabbalist
brothers, Isaac and Meir b. Solomon ibn Sahula, and it is in Isaac s books that the first
quotations are found from the earliest stratum of the Zohar, dating from 1281. Many kabbalists
were active at this time in the small communities around Toledo, and there is evidence of
mystical experience even among the unlearned. An example of this is the appearance as a
prophet in Avila in 1295 of Nissim b. Abraham, an ignorant artisan, to whom an angel revealed a
Kabbalistic work, Pil ot ha Hokhmah, and who was opposed by Solomon b. Abraham Adret.
This was the community where Moses de Leon passed the last years of his life. The Zohar is the
most important evidence for the stirring of a mythical spirit in medieval Judaism. The origin of
the book, its literary and religious character, and the role that it has played in the history of
Judaism, have been subjects of prolonged argument among scholars during the analysis. In an
analysis of this kind we can establish a precise place for the Zohar so doing we must resist
continually recurring apologetic attempts to antedate its composition by turning its late literary
sources into evidence for the earlier existence of the book, or by proclaiming ancient strata in it.
The mingling of these two currents the Kabbalah of Gerona and the Kabbalah of the Gnostics of
Castile became in the mind of Moses de Leon a creative encounter which determined the basic
character of the Zohar. Instead of the brief allusions and interpretations of his predecessors he
presents a broad canvas of interpretation and homiletics covering the whole world of Judaism as it
appeared to him. He was far

Jewish Divorce Essay
Although changes have been made to Jewish divorce laws, women are continually being
mistreated when dealing with the issues of divorce. In biblical times, there were no assurances that
women would be protected when faced with a man who wanted a divorce. Furthermore, women
were not allowed to initiate the process by asking for one. As time went on, it was recognized that
women needed to be somewhat shielded from actions that her husband could take, which she had
no control over. Rabbinic law made four major changes to help the plightof women regarding
divorce (Biale p.5).
First, the Halackah requires a Get (bill of divorcement), which limits the possibility of a rash,
thoughtless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been many debates about this clause because the appropriate grounds for divorce are
unclear. Some believe that a man can divorce a woman merely because he likes another one better
(B. p.74). There is no safeguard against this because it is up to the man s judgment. The
requirements of the Ketubah and the Get may not convince the man to stay married.
The fact remains that on the one hand; a wife could not initiate a divorce without appealing to a
Beit Din, and on the other hand may be divorced without her consent. The Talmud states A woman
may be divorced with her consent or without it (B. 81). Rabbenu Gershom made a ruling that
banned the divorcement of a woman without her consent. Although this is a positive legislation, a
Beit Din has the power to revoke it when they deem necessary.
The most problematic law is that while it is not always necessary for a woman to consent to a
divorce, a man can give a divorce with only his full consent (Yevamot 112b) (B. 97). It is then up
to the courts and the community to try to convince him to give his wife a divorce. Many women
have faced this problem of being an Agunah (anchored wife), chained to her husband until he
agrees to a divorce. This problem is even more apparent today while religious morals do not
always prevail over greedy husbands who wish to bribe their wives for monetary gains. There are
too many cases that show husbands refusing

Burgermeister s Daughter Essay
Burgermeister s Daughter
What was the predominant image of women and women s place in medieval society? Actual
historical events, such as the scandal and subsequent litigation revolving around Anna Buschler
which Steven Ozment detail s in the Burgermeisters Daughter, suggests something off a
compromise between these two literary extremes. It is easy to say that life in the sixteenth century
was surely no utopia for women but at least they had some rights.
Anna was the daughter of Hermann Buschler, a prominent citizen who had even been the
burgermeister of the German town of Schwabisch Hall, within the Holy Roman Empire. When she
was young, Anna had simultaneous affairs with a young local nobleman, Erasmus Schenk of
Limpurg, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anna s story shows that women did have some rights, and that they also had, at least in this case,
the ability to defend those rights within legal institutions. Even more important is evidence of
public opinion, instead of siding against Anna as an unfit daughter causing trouble for her family
Hall s citizens actually sided with Anna against her father. In this, both daughter s obedience to
father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of
religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex.
While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss
either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy
task because she couldn t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral
code of Germany was overturned. She contested her father and went against the respect you re
supposed to have. Her story was not a complete positive statement of female dominance, because
that certainly was not the case, an ugly thirty year court battle doesn t indicate disempowerment
either, even though her battle didn t personally benefit her to the fullest, it was a large step for
women.
In the sixteenth century the normative relations between father and child, and among

Animal Death Vs. Old-Earth Creationism
Animal death before the fall may not be found in any of the early Christian s church s orthodox,
but when it comes to the argument over young or old earth creationism, it can be a very defining
issue. Old earth creationists believe animal death was part of God s creation before Adam and
Eve were even created, while young earth creationists reject all death before the Fall. The Old
Earth Creationist view is that Adam s sin led to his spiritual death, which was then followed
eventually by his physical death. Before Adam was created, animal death was not related to man s
salvation or Christ s atonement on the cross. The scriptural support for theses claims are pointed
out in the following verses. In Genesis 2:17 it is written, For in the day that you eat from it you
shall surely die. In this warning to Adam there was no mention of animal death. Adam was the
person whom God was speaking to in this verse. Both John MacArthur, who is a young earth
creationist, and Gleason Archer, an old earth creationist, agree in the sense that this verse was
communicating a spiritual death to Adam, followed by his physical death hundreds of years later.

The Case Of A Prayer For Owen Meany By John Irving
The American Dream throughout the Century
White picket fences, rows of houses that are carbon copies of each other, and the perfect family
who owned all of this. For years, it was said that this was the true ideal to be met. The long sought
after American Dream has been apart of this nation for decades and continues to change as the
times do. In the case of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, the author incorporates both the
American Dream from the 1950s and 1960s, but also today s take on the subject.
To thoroughly understand the differences between the American Dream of the 20th century and
today, one must first look at the historical events that took place while keeping in mind what is

North Korea has been suggested, forgotten, and reevaluated. In 2017, it seems there is growing
tension and Americans are not prepared for what could happen if the war was to begin. There is
no patriotism in this case, no one is ready to go to war with North Korea. This would not be a
war that the men and women of the country would fight; it would be with nuclear weapons and
the push of a few buttons. In Irving s book, there is something to be fought for the protection of a
country from the evil grasp of Communism. In the case of North Korea, there is only an angry
leader who has harboured hatred towards the United States for years. In summary, the American
dream currently is not to go to war for the sake of fighting, the people need something to fight for in
order to justify their personal American Dream.

Of Oedipus Rex s Influence On The Number 23
Oedipus Rex s Influence on The Number 23
Julia A. Meade
University of Maine
Oedipus Rex is one of the first tragedies in theatre history to be recorded, and to have survived for
present day society to appreciate. Written by one of three ancient greek playwrights, Sophocles,
this performance has paved the way for many other pieces of work (Brockett Ball, 2014). One such
work from contemporary times, The Number 23, a movie starring Jim Carrey, appears to follow a
similar, if not the same, plot as Oedipus Rex. Both pieces of work start in the middle of the
trouble; The play starts in the middle of a deathly illness that has spread across the kingdom of
Thebes, which Oedipus is ruler of, and the movie starts with Walter reading a book that seems
oddly similar to his own life. Oedipus is tasked with finding out who murdered the previous king,
since the god Apollo told Creon, Oedipus brother in law, that the murderer is the abomination in
Thebes that has caused the illness. Walter becomes obsessed with the main character of the book
he received from his wife, whose life revolves around the number 23. He tasks himself with
finding out more about the author of the book, since he believes the book was somehow written
about his own life. Both of these characters become investigators to find the truth. In Walter s
journey he finds more and more details of the book that fit details in his own life. In the book are
characters Fingerling and Isabel whom, both,

Fate And Fate In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
Title
They then briefly exchanged some addresses and admonition. As for the reflections of the men,
there was a great deal of rage in them. Perchance they might be formulated thus: If I am going to
drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven
mad gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come this far and contemplate sand and trees? Was I
brought here merely to have my nose dragged away as I was about to nibble the sacred cheese of
life? It is preposterous. If this old ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be
deprived of the management of men s fortunes. She is an old hen who knows not her intention. If
she has decided to drown me, why did she not do it in the beginning and save me all this trouble.
The whole affair is absurd...But, no, she cannot mean to drown me. She dares not drown me. She
cannot drown me. Not after all this work.: Afterward the man might have had an impulse to shake

company has their own code of ethicsthat they expect ALL their employees to follow. The

their own interests. In John Anderson s case, he did not follow this, which, resulted in violating the

Understanding Spesific Needs in Health and Social Care
Introduction
The aim of this essay is to analyse the concepts of health, disability, illness and behaviour and also
investigate how health and social care services and systems support individuals with specific needs
and look at different approaches and intervention strategies available to support individuals with
specific needs, lastly will explain what challenging behaviour is and explain strategies available for
those working with people with specific needs
LO1.1
Health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity (WHO, 1974). During the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion in

Early part of the 20th century epilepsy was linked with insanity; people believed that the Holy
Spirit was working them. In Third World cultures epilepsy continue to be defined in super
natural terms. Recently a community study in Nigeria found that after heredity, witch craft was
the cause of epilepsy amongst the lay populace (Awaritefe et al, 1985). Danesi (1984) has
revealed that most Nigerians with epilepsy experience it as highly stigmatizing and something to
be hidden from others but through medical discoveries and medical advances we know that
epilepsy is caused by abnormal neurological activity that occurs as a result of damage or result to
the brain. Epilepsy is now controlled by carbamazepine tablets and sodium valproate which
controls the seizures however, what we all know is subject to reinterpretation. At any time new
technological advances, new medical discoveries, new ways of looking at the structure and
functioning of the body or brain could replace the current orthodoxy and epilepsy could come to be
seen in a completely different light.
Department of Health (1999) launched a strategy to ensure that doctors and nurses have the skills
they need to use to make the best use of new technology introduced into the NHS.
The right to freedom from discriminations for people with a range of disabilities, including those
with a learning disability, has been enshrined in the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act which says

Trump To Christianity Research Paper
Is it too late for Trump to find Jesus?
Absolutely not! It s never too late to find Jesus... unless you are dead and then even that is
debatable depending on which religious philosophy you subscribe to.
The fact that Trump has claimed to become a Born again Christian is really a positive step in the
Christian direction... because acknowledging and accepting Christ as one s Savior is really the first
step to becoming a Christian.
If you analyze it from a true Christian s perspective, it can be considered cogent reasoning to
identify Trump as a baby Christian, just like James C. Dobson suggested. There are some well
documented facts in regards to Mr. Trumps Christianityconversion.

But if Trump is indeed a baby Christian and was converted in the most recent past, then reason
would support the idea that he could be a changed man or a changing man for that matter. Because
true conversion is a process. One may have a sincere desire to not sin or do evil anymore, but the
process of changing thoughts, behavior, default responses, and actions are transformations that take
time. So Trumps most recent behavior has been much better and from the evidence, it seems that
most of his deplorable words and actions have been far enough into the past that it is believable that
he has had that change of heart been born again and is on the Christianity

A View From The Bridge Sacrifice
To continue the string of lessons that Eddie learns throughout the novel, the common atrocity
known as war expresses the importance of sacrifice, in every sense of the word. The most
common example that comes to mind when one thinks of sacrifice is a soldier going to war,
much like Eddie does within the novel. One of the best ways to explain sacrifice is the act of
giving up one thing for something else [one] [believes] is worth more (McKay). This lesson is
largely taught to Eddie through his commanding officer from the war, who is not named within the
novel; Eddie merely refers to him as The Captain. Similar to when he first meets Ruby, Eddie is
unsure of what the Captain is meant to show him, but through the telling of his tragic story,... Show

Each of the people that he meets in heaven show him this quality through the telling of their
stories, and how they learned to accept their own fate. The first instance occurs when Eddie
meets the Blue Man, who explains that Eddie is the cause of his death, where he says to take
one story, viewed from two different angles. It is the same day, the same moment, but one angle
ends up happily. . .and the other ends badly, in a city morgue (Albom 44). Just like each of the
others that Eddie meets, the Blue man had learned to accept his death through the people that he
had met in heaven, much like Eddie does throughout meeting each of his five people. This story
teaches him that many of life s events are accidental or out of control, and some things will
happen for seemingly no reason at all. Similar to the Blue Man, the fourth person that Eddie
meets, his wife, Marguerite, also subtly teaches him the importance of accepting how one s life
turns out. Her story, which is arguably more tragic than that of the Blue Man s, shows Eddie
that even the most innocent of people can come to terms with their quick and unexpected
demise. Marguerite s death happened so quickly that there was no time to prepare for it, but she
explains that the five people she met in heaven made all the difference (Albom 157). However,
possibly the person that impacts this lesson of acceptance the most is the final person that Eddie
meets, the little girl, Tala, that he killed in the fire that he set during the war. Even a child as
young as her is able to accept the fatal mistake that Eddie made, and even tactfully teaches Eddie
the lesson that she learned about accepting her own fate. Upon realizing that this is the girl he
killed, Eddie explains that the darkness that had shadowed him all those years was revealing itself
at last, it was real, flesh and blood, this child, this lovely child, he had

In Nature By Ralph Waldo
The essays Nature and self reliance almost support each other in the way they depict self respect
as not just an aspect of life, but as life Itself and anything less is more dead than any end one
could meet under most any circumstances. They simply approach the subject with different idea
s. This kind of thing of course is to be expected due to the fact the author published both books.
Oddly enough the books, both reference nature and self reliance only each one is more dedicated
to one subject over the other. Really, they re the same book simply written in different stages of his
life and thus seen From different point of view. Ralph Waldo almost makes an attempt at a

One example of Waldo s extreme fervor for Self gratification in Nature is I become a transparent

example of zealous in self reliance Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who

Corporal Punishment Should Be Illegal
Corporal punishment should be illegal at home. Although, others might disagree with the way a
child should be punished. Many adults, researcher, psychiatrist, doctors, parents, and teens have
negative comments on corporal punishment. Today, all around the world we see parents discipline
their kids in many forms of ways like spankingand multiple people see it as child abuse. Before
beginning this controversial debate, we should distinguish the difference between child abuse and
corporal punishment. Child abuse is when a parent or a caregiver fails to act upon action like
injury, death, and emotional abuse combined with physical abuse. There are many forms of
maltreatment, which includes neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional
abuse. Corporal punishment is when a parent or legal guardians causes physical pain or
discomfort to a child due to misbehaving. Examples include spanking or slapping the child with an
open hand or striking with an implement such as a belt, slipper, cane, hairbrush or paddle, and can
also include shaking, pinching, forced ingestion of substances, or forcing children to stay in
uncomfortable positions. In fact, parents often take it too far when it comes to punishing their
child, which soon leads to a bigger issue. Corporal punishment has been around since the Middle
age like at school, home, and for when a person convicted a crime. Today, some schools have
banned corporal punishment like in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Delaware, etc., because
researcher has shown that corporal punishment can cause students more harm and paying less
attention in school. What are others opinion about corporal punishment? One parent said, They d
been spanked as a child, and they turned out pretty good (Polhemus, Betsy, et al.Is spanking an
effective punishment). Scott Morefield who is a blog editor for Raising Godly Children argues
that, That spanking and abuse are not synonymous and that corporal punishment has been used by
parents throughout civilization. He also notes that support for physical discipline can be found in
the Bible (Morefield, Scott. Parents Should Have the Right to Properly Discipline their Children ).
However, many disagree that using physical

The Legal Concepts Of An Offer Essay
a)Common Law Offer The Legal Concepts of an Offer An offer is a conditional promise made
by the offeror to the offeree. The offeror will not be bound by her or his promise unless the
offeree responds to it in the manner sought by the offeror. That is why it is said the offer is
conditional. In the other word, the definition of an offer is a statement made by an offeror that he
or she is prepared to be bound to a contractual position the first essential element to the meeting of
the minds of the contracting parties. The Requirement of an Offer 1)Present intention to contract
The language used in an offer should present a commitment or undertaking. 2)Definiteness An offer
should be definite and should be made under such circumstances that the person receiving the offer
has reason to believe that the offeror is willing to deal on the terms indicated. 3)Proper Party
Involving two parties: the offeror and offeree. An offer creates in someone the power to accept,
therefore, the communication must sufficiently identify the offeree or the class from whom the
offeree may emerge. b)Common Law Acceptance The Legal Concepts of an Acceptance An
acceptance is a statement by one party (offeree) that he or she is willing/ prepared to be bound by

Food Monsters In Industrial Food
I argue that when Kant, Smith, and Rousseau go out to eat at McDonald s, they would discuss the
role of food monsters within the industrial food system. Food monsters are large multinational
corporations that control almost all of the food production and distribution worldwide. Examples
are General Mills, Pepsico, and Nestle. When the three social theorists arrive at McDonald s, Kant
would look through the menu and obsessively ask questions about what farm the chicken in the
chicken nuggets came from. In the end, I think he would end up getting something with less
ingredients like apples, which only have two ingredients (which he would find concerning) or
maybe a salad. Smith would look at all the different options and then chose the McDouble for
$1.00, which the best meal that you can get for the cheapest price. Rousseau would eat a happy
meal, in the hopes of being happier.
They would sit down in a booth and Kant would be upset with his choice of apples because he
would not know which orchards the apples came from. Additionally, he would be concerned that
there are two ingredients in apples, apples and Calcium Ascorbate. He would then bring up the
point that consumers do not know where their food is coming from and do not bother to question it.
Kant would argue that the food monsters, the people who control and profit from the food industry,
are acting dishonorably by controlling the information shared with consumers. He would think that
people need to gain consciousness

Liberia, commonly known for diseases such as Ebola and cholera and also known as home to
such notorious figures as General Butt Naked, a mass murderer and cannibal, is a nation

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Progressive Movement
Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of progressivism.
Prominent political reform movements focused on four main goals: making politics more
effective, limiting the power of big business, ameliorating poverty, and promoting social justice.
In the 1880s and 1890s, labor unions and farm radicals took the lead in critiquing the new
industrial order and demanding change. Over time, more and more middle class and elite
Americans also took up the call, eventually earning the name progressives. On the whole, middle
class progressives proposed more limited measures than farmer and labor advocates did, but since
they wielded more political clout, they often had greater success in winning passage of new laws.
Thus, while their goals and tactics differed, both radicals and progressives played important roles
in advancing reform (Henretta, p 598).
Although historians call this era of political agitation and innovation the Progressive Era, no single
group led the way. On the contrary, prominent reformers took opposing views on such questions as
immigration policy, racial justice, women s rights, and imperialism. Most middle class progressives
were initially hostile to the sweeping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theories Of Evolution
What is evolution? (Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are
thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth).
Charles Darwin was the original founder of evolution. There are many theories out there that
scientist have came up with and have come to believe through research on ancient organism
remains, similarities of embryos, fossil records, and chemical and Anatomical similarities. Ancient
organisms, scientist say that organisms that lived long ago that have modern day organisms that

Scientists then realized that the fossils and the moderate day organisms remains didn t look

organisms, this is the belief that organism came from one or two common organisms. A great
example of this is houses, donkeys, and zebras, they are all similar organisms that have almost
the same body structure, but they live in different parts of the world and have evolved and
adapted to where they live so they can survive. (Scientists can compare the DNA of two
organisms; the more similar the DNA, the more closely related the organisms). Similarities of
embryos, an embryo is an unborn or unhatched child. Scientist say that many organisms have
similar characteristics (This shows that the animals are similar and that they develop similarly,
implying that they are related, have common ancestors and that they started out the same,
gradually evolving different traits, but that the basic plan for a creature s beginning remains the
same). A good example of this is a frog, a hippo, and a rabbit they have similar characteristics such
as frogs and rabbits both being able to jump and the frog and hippo being able to stay underwater

The Impact Of Advancements Of Robotic Technology Essay
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the advancements of robotic
technology in libraries. It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics
and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries
need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical
knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology
will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with
humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of
Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have
demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means
forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots
(R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother.
Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other
animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman
Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of
these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both learning and cultural hubs of societies,
have unique opportunities to introduce the idea of robots.

The Soldier By Wupert Brooke Poem Analysis
World War 1 was known at the time as the Great war, the war to end all wars. The war fought
between July 28, 1914, and November 11, 1918, during this period of time the perception of war
and the casualties of war changed immensely. This changed of perception can be established
through the poets of Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke. In the poems, The Soldier (1914), by
Rupert Brooke, and Dulce et Decorum Est (October 1917), by Wilfred Owen, both poets use
language features to help the reader to comprehend each text. The Soldier is a portrayal of
Rupert Brooke s eternal love for his country as he goes to war. Brooke uses personification and
structures his poem in the form of a sonnet to portray the patriotic love the soldier has for his
country. Wilfred Owen describes the grim reality of war in his poem, Dulce et Decorum Est.
Through the effective use of metaphors and through the use of the full rhymescheme, Owen s poem
leaves a lasting image on the mind s of the audience.
Between the poems Dulce et Decorum Est and The Soldier, there are a number of similarities. The
use of Titling, is established to mislead the audience, in the sense that the terms are used to
contradict the content and theme of the poem. The Soldier evokes melancholy, but in reality the
poem reveals that fighting in war is for the sole purpose of defending one s country, and showcasing
your nationalism. Hence encouraging the act think this heart, all evil shed away , to then state his
true extreme nationalism through the passage no less gives somewhere back the thoughts by

and seemly to die for there country. While the poem itself exposes the cold truth about war through
the tone of resentment, thus disheartening glory. When considering the structure of each poem,
they are very similar in the way that they are both written as an iambic pentameter. Within addition
they both share a notable structure rhyme pattern. With Dulce et Decorum Est, portraying a rhyme
that is disrupted at one main point GAS!, quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling this break, can be

It is a health problem today in more that 90 countries, with total populations of more than 2,400

Allium Ascalonicum Linn. (Liliaceae)
1.Introduction
1.1Onions
Onions are from the specie Allium of the family Alliaceae is the most historic cultivar of vegetables
that have been famous for their use in ornamentals, spices, vegetables and medications. An estimate
of about 700 different types of species are currently present and grown throughout the world and are
admired for their flavor, easy growth and extended shelf life. It is important to note that all the
species are close in bio chemical, phytochemical contents whereas the form and taste differs. The
organoleptic properties are due to the rich content of sulfur compounds that other than organoleptic
properties contribute to anti oxidant and anti microbial activity. [1]
The two main categories of the underground bulb are:
Green Onion also called as Scallions
Dry Onion that are the mature adaptation of Green Onions.
The onions evolves in various colors, shape and flavors. However, when processed such as boiled
they change into translucent. Being seasonal, the onion are further classified as:
Spring/Summer Onions:
Having high water content they have thin and light colored skin thus have low shelf life and are
delicate. The flavor ranges from sweet to mild and are extensively used in Salads, Sandwiches etc.

This is because the bad handling results into the potential bulb decay, germination and hence
declined retail prices. The most appropriate manner to handle the increased growth of shallot is that
the shallot powder must be manufactured which is widely used as raw material in various
industries as Snack production, Seasoning for cooking and finally medications. Drying can be held
of the shallots by using Oven Dryers by the addition of Sodium Meta bisulphite as an anti browning
agents. However their use is limited due to increasing allergenic reactions.

Ancient Greek Theatre
The history of Greek drama began at about 700 B.C. This included festivals that that honored
their Gods. The men would dress up and sing and play to welcome Dionysus. In these early
times, the actor and director was all the same person. They had tragedy, comedy and satyr plays.
Plays were either spoken or sung in rhyme. It was also illegal to poke fun at the Gods and this was
punishable by death. (Robinson, Scott R. Theatre and Dramain Ancient Greece. Theatre and Drama
in Ancient Greece. N.p., 2010. Web. 04 May 2016) During the early plays there was really no
scenery or backdrops. There were two machines on stage that helped to lift the actor into the air
who was playing a God. The other machine helped produce the sound of thunder. Zeus... Show

So this type of play is a happy tragedy. They often poked fun at real people and events. The
actors are mythical creatures while the chorus is the satyrs (or nature spirits) that combine male
traits with ears and tails of horses. The satyrs contrasted the main characters by dancing, love of
wine, banter, and low language. The object of this type of play is to alleviate the emotions of the
tragic trilogy. ( Satyr Play. Encyclopedia Britannica Online. Ed. Encyclopedia Britannica The
Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica. Encyclopedia Britannica, 11 Apr. 2016. Web. 04 May
2016) During the festival in honor of Dionysus, they had theatrical contests. The festival was
held over four days each spring. They picked four authors to compete. They must each write
three tragedies and a satyr play. The performance of the plays by each author takes on full day.
They do the play in front of the citizens. The audience was to start watching the plays at dawn
and would stay until sunset. The audiences shouts, applause, and groans and boos would help to
determine a winner. At the end of the festival a winner is picked. ( HISTORY OF THEATRE.

Overview of Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay...
Lord of the Flies
This book, Lord of the Flies, was written by English author William Golding. It was his first book
and when it was published in 1954, he was 43 years old. In 1983, the author got a novel prize in
literature (Bruce, 1993). The book is about tragic story of young boys in an unknown island in
war time. Although the book was not great success at that time, it soon became a best seller and it
is a recommended book in the world now. It has been cinematized three times since 1963. William
Golding took elite courses. He graduated Oxford University and he was a teacher. He served in the
navy for a time and reinstated as teacher (Nobelprize.org). I think his intelligence and military
experience formed this story.

Simon is one of Ralph s group members and he is a representative character of peace and
positive mind. He loves the nature of the island and he has positive prospect about the future that
bring them successful escape. He is the boy who saw an illusion of Lord of the files at first. The
book started at a war. Many boys on the plane got accident and suddenly fell on the island. The
boys are all normal students and some of them belong to a musical choir. They don t know each
other and they have to survive in the island without adults. It is a wild and children vote for
leader not to be savage and to survive. They are isolated from civilization. They need to establish
new state by their own efforts. In the far island, because nobody knows where they are, waiting for
passing ship, they make some rules and try to be cultured men. However, they slowly obey to
natural instinct and become more and more insane.
English boys fly away from war and nuclear bomb. A plane that is boarded by children crashes in
an island in the Pacific and the pilot dies. After all children gather, they decide to make a group
leader by vote. There were two candidates Ralph, who makes children gather, and Jack, who is a
leader of choir boys. Ralph won and it makes Jack feel terrible. At first, children expect their free
life without any adults, such as parents or teachers. They just play games and play in water. As
being a rational child, Ralph, however, decides to light a fire so that

Classical Vs. Operant Conditioning
Classical and Operant Conditioning Ivan Pavlov once said, Don t become a mere recorder of
facts, but try to penetrate the mystery of their origin. Often times in the fast pace world that college
students live today many get so caught up in sheer memorization of everything that comes their
way just to pass with that sought after A. What is often looked past is the true meaning of concepts
and ideas to retain the information needed for success. It was this very mindset instilled with in
great men such as Ivan Pavlov, B.F. Skinner, and many more who have broken new ground and
uncovered amazing things so that the world is now able to have a better understanding of key
concepts in how humans and animals learn. After years of work and... Show more content on

Things that shouldn t be all that scary but over time have developed a stimulus that causes a
reaction (Field Purkis, 2012, cited in Weiten, 2017). There are four basic terms that are very key in
understanding classical conditioning. First, unconditioned stimulus (UCS), is a stimulus that
evokes an unconditioned response without previous conditioning (Weiten, 2017). The
unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus that occurs naturally without any outside interaction. This is
something that happens in a person s daily life, with no thought given to it. The second term is the
unconditioned response (UCR), an unlearned reaction to a nonconditioned stimulus that occurs
without previous conditioning (Weiten, 2017). This is the natural reaction to the natural stimulus.
Nothing has been learned or conditioned yet, these are both baseline things happening in a natural
form. Third, conditioned stimulus (CS), a previously neutral stimulus that has, through
conditioning, acquired the capacity to evoke a conditioned response (Weiten, 2017). Time after
time the neutral stimulus slowly become the conditioned stimulus, it has slowly been developed
and learned to create a stimulus. It is not something that is recognized while it is happening,
gradually helps itself in the forming of the stimulus. Lastly, the fourth term, conditioned response, a
learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus that occurs because of previous conditioning (Weiten,
2017). This is where the

Government Intervention Lies Conviction Of The Existance...
At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the
existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim
to maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum
Pareto function properly (Francis M. Bator, 1958) . In other words, the marketreduces the utility and
waste resources. It must therefore step a mediator usually government or legislative body which
will correct existing errors, improving the existing condition of things, that is, increasing the
usability and improving allocation. Interventionism is often called the third way, mixed economy,
social market economy or the welfare state and the main purpose of it is to achieve compromise
between capitalism, which is identified with the market econmy, and socialist system where the
predominant form is centrally planed economy. The term market failure, which for he first time
appeared in 1958 (Francis M. Bator, 1958), defines situation where the market does not perform
in a rational ways its basic functions; motivational and allocative. According to F.M.Bator, the
market fails when people are fully dedicated to their private interests what in fact leads to
inefficiency. F.M. Bator argues that businessmen`s desire for a ``quiet life`` is oposed to the fact
that ` they have to do with the efficiency of ``real life`` market institutions operated by ``real life``

The Theme Of Madness In Shakespeare, By William Shakespeare
Madness can be defined as the state of mental delusion/ mentally ill or showing extremely foolish
/eccentric behavior which begins with anger. The incorporation of madness in literature has been
a long standing tradition and can be encountered in these three works: King Lear by William
Shakespeare where he tells the story about King Lear whose madness has been promoted by his
two daughters, Regan and Goneril, Daddy by Sylvia Plath, where she reveals her anguish at her
father s death, she also discloses an eccentric behavior of attempting a suicide, and Medea by
Euripides, where we can encounter madness through the actions of Medea after being spurned by
her husband Jason. Insanity occupies a central place in these pieces of literature and... Show more

King Lear slowly starts to descend in the complexity of insanity and his first sign of madness can
be seen through this quote ...Look look, a mouse! Peace, peace; this piece of toasted cheese will
do it...OH, well flown, bird! (Act IV.6. 88 91). Over time, he starts to realize that he made
himself fall into this trap and Regan and Goneril are the reason for his madness and lastly, he
learns to conquer his madness; however, it leads to a misfortune. On the other hand, Edgar, the
son of Gloucester pretends to be a madman and decides to live the life of a beggar due to
Edmund evil intentions (Act 3, Scene 4). In this scenario, Edgar is able to save and live his life
better even if the world considers him insane. Edgar as a character symbolizes madness the most
in King Lear. His loss of identity as a noble can be seen as a form of madness. Obsession is a
form of insanity that can be discovered in Daddy by Sylvia Plath where the author shows hatred
towards her own obsession with her dead father. With the use of literary devices, she expresses
her emotion towards the male figures in her life causes of her insanity. Plath faces rejection from
the society and from her family which leads to her insanity. An example of her cutting off from
the society can be seen in lines 69 70, The black telephone s off at the root, The voices just can t
work through. Due to her obsession towards her father, she tried to commit

Fred Roberts s ambition for obtaining more land in Solstice Canyon reached almost over 1000
acres. Fred and his wife Florence Roberts hired a famous African America architecture engineer
named Paul R. Williams to design a modern home for them on their family ranch, Solstice
Canyon. The material used for building the home of Roberts family was wood, stone, and brick;
which at the time was a great combination of materials due to the home site of waterfalls, springs
and lush vegetation. Fred Roberts named their newly constructed home from the time Tropical
Terrade. Fred insisted that the architect included an elaborate fire protection system for the home
and build using only fire resistant materials. Before Fred Roberts was able to see his dream
home he passed away in1976. Shortly a few years later the house was destroyed in 1982 by a
wildfire that frequently burned through the canyon to the ocean. The Santa Monica Mountains first
opened Solstice Canyons a public park in 1988. This landmark is now managed by the national
park Service and is free to the public with no parking or entrance fee. It is highly recommended to
take plenty of water and comfortable shoes. It is estimated to takes about three hours to complete
the hiking trail and the park is open to the public seven day a weeks. It is best to arrive early in the
morning to Solstice Canyon because parking is limited. There are several animals one can spot on

Henry, Jimmy Valentine was a criminal who moved to Elmore, a small town in Arkansas, looking for a fresh start. He changed his name and fell in love with the bank owner s daughter. Valentine had a detective looking for him, the detective s name is Ben Price. Jimmy was going to give up his robbing bank tools so he would be able to change for his fiance. He changed his name when he first came to town so the cops would not be able to find him also so no one would suspect he was a robber. This argument is invalid because the detective Ben Price found Jimmy and thought that he was a changed man so Ben did not arrest him. In the letter Jimmy lied about going to Little Rock to give away his tools he actually was going to rob another bank. In this extract of the novel, Toad believes that adventure is the only means of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life; That s real life for you, embodied in that little cart . The cart is symbolic of Toad s ambitious nature, which is manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and adventure. • 4. Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages Programming Languages Definition of the term program A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a computer to carry out a task and how to it. Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated. Applications that can be developed using these paradigms Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step. Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top down languages. Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages are all procedural. The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do, and how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or ... There are 3 definitions of stress: 1. The response definition: this is Selye s approach; it means that any stimulus that causes a stress response is by definition, a stressor. 2. The stimulus definition: This definition argues that we can agree that certain events are stressful, so therefore any reaction they provoke can be called a stress response. Kobassa stated that the concept of Hardiness is central to understanding why some people are vulnerable to stress and stress related illnesses, and others are not. Hardiness includes a range of personality factors, which, if present, provide a defence against the effects of stress. These factors are: * Control: The belief that you have control of what happens in your life and all your actions decide what happens to you. * Commitment: This is a sense of involvement in the world around you. * Challenge: This is where people see life changes as challenges that can be overcome, or as opportunities, rather then as threats and stressors. Shem Tov de Leon in Guadalajara, a small town northeast of Madrid. In this city there also lived two kabbalist brothers, Isaac and Meir b. Solomon ibn Sahula, and it is in Isaac s books that the first quotations are found from the earliest stratum of the Zohar, dating from 1281. Many kabbalists were active at this time in the small communities around Toledo, and there is evidence of mystical experience even among the unlearned. An example of this is the appearance as a prophet in Avila in 1295 of Nissim b. Abraham, an ignorant artisan, to whom an angel revealed a Kabbalistic work, Pil ot ha Hokhmah, and who was opposed by Solomon b. Abraham Adret. This was the community where Moses de Leon passed the last years of his life. The Zohar is the most important evidence for the stirring of a mythical spirit in medieval Judaism. The origin of the book, its literary and religious character, and the role that it has played in the history of Judaism, have been subjects of prolonged argument among scholars during the analysis. In an analysis of this kind we can establish a precise place for the Zohar so doing we must resist continually recurring apologetic attempts to antedate its composition by turning its late literary sources into evidence for the earlier existence of the book, or by proclaiming ancient strata in it. The mingling of these two currents the Kabbalah of Gerona and the Kabbalah of the Gnostics of Castile became in the mind of Moses de Leon a creative encounter which determined the basic character of the Zohar. Instead of the brief allusions and interpretations of his predecessors he presents a broad canvas of interpretation and homiletics covering the whole world of Judaism as it appeared to him. In biblical times, there were no assurances that women would be protected when faced with a man who wanted a divorce. Furthermore, women were not allowed to initiate the process by asking for one. As time went on, it was recognized that women needed to be somewhat shielded from actions that her husband could take, which she had no control over. Rabbinic law made four major changes to help the plightof women regarding divorce (Biale p.5). There have been many debates about this clause because the appropriate grounds for divorce are unclear. Some believe that a man can divorce a woman merely because he likes another one better (B. p.74). There is no safeguard against this because it is up to the man s judgment. The requirements of the Ketubah and the Get may not convince the man to stay married. The fact remains that on the one hand; a wife could not initiate a divorce without appealing to a Beit Din, and on the other hand may be divorced without her consent. The Talmud states A woman may be divorced with her consent or without it (B. 81). Rabbenu Gershom made a ruling that banned the divorcement of a woman without her consent. Although this is a positive legislation, a Beit Din has the power to revoke it when they deem necessary. The most problematic law is that while it is not always necessary for a woman to consent to a divorce, a man can give a divorce with only his full consent (Yevamot 112b) (B. 97). It is then up to the courts and the community to try to convince him to give his wife a divorce. Many women have faced this problem of being an Agunah (anchored wife), chained to her husband until he agrees to a divorce. This problem is even more apparent today while religious morals do not always prevail over greedy husbands who wish to bribe their wives for monetary gains. Actual historical events, such as the scandal and subsequent litigation revolving around Anna Buschler which Steven Ozment detail s in the Burgermeisters Daughter, suggests something off a compromise between these two literary extremes. It is easy to say that life in the sixteenth century was surely no utopia for women but at least they had some rights. In this, both daughter s obedience to father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex. While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy task because she couldn t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral code of Germany was overturned. Old-Earth Creationism Animal death before the fall may not be found in any of the early Christian s church s orthodox, but when it comes to the argument over young or old earth creationism, it can be a very defining issue. Old earth creationists believe animal death was part of God s creation before Adam and Eve were even created, while young earth creationists reject all death before the Fall. The Old Earth Creationist view is that Adam s sin led to his spiritual death, which was then followed eventually by his physical death. Before Adam was created, animal death was not related to man s salvation or Christ s atonement on the cross. The scriptural support for theses claims are pointed out in the following verses. In Genesis 2:17 it is written, For in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die. In this warning to Adam there was no mention of animal death. Adam was the person whom God was speaking to in this verse. Both John MacArthur, who is a young earth creationist, and Gleason Archer, an old earth creationist, agree in the sense that this verse was communicating a spiritual death to Adam, followed by his physical death hundreds of years later. It s never too late to find Jesus... unless you are dead and then even that is debatable depending on which religious philosophy you subscribe to. The fact that Trump has claimed to become a Born again Christian is really a positive step in the Christian direction... because acknowledging and accepting Christ as one s Savior is really the first step to becoming a Christian. If you analyze it from a true Christian s perspective, it can be considered cogent reasoning to identify Trump as a baby Christian, just like James C. Dobson suggested. Because true conversion is a process. One may have a sincere desire to not sin or do evil anymore, but the process of changing thoughts, behavior, default responses, and actions are transformations that take time. So Trumps most recent behavior has been much better and from the evidence, it seems that most of his deplorable words and actions have been far enough into the past that it is believable that he has had that change of heart been born again and is on the Christianity ... A View From The Bridge Sacrifice To continue the string of lessons that Eddie learns throughout the novel, the common atrocity known as war expresses the importance of sacrifice, in every sense of the word. The most common example that comes to mind when one thinks of sacrifice is a soldier going to war, much like Eddie does within the novel. One of the best ways to explain sacrifice is the act of giving up one thing for something else [one] [believes] is worth more (McKay). This lesson is largely taught to Eddie through his commanding officer from the war, who is not named within the novel; Eddie merely refers to him as The Captain. Each of the people that he meets in heaven show him this quality through the telling of their stories, and how they learned to accept their own fate. The first instance occurs when Eddie meets the Blue Man, who explains that Eddie is the cause of his death, where he says to take one story, viewed from two different angles. It is the same day, the same moment, but one angle ends up happily. . .and the other ends badly, in a city morgue (Albom 44). Just like each of the others that Eddie meets, the Blue man had learned to accept his death through the people that he had met in heaven, much like Eddie does throughout meeting each of his five people. This story teaches him that many of life s events are accidental or out of control, and some things will happen for seemingly no reason at all. Similar to the Blue Man, the fourth person that Eddie meets, his wife, Marguerite, also subtly teaches him the importance of accepting how one s life turns out. Her story, which is arguably more tragic than that of the Blue Man s, shows Eddie that even the most innocent of people can come to terms with their quick and unexpected demise. Marguerite s death happened so quickly that there was no time to prepare for it, but she explains that the five people she met in heaven made all the difference (Albom 157). However, possibly the person that impacts this lesson of acceptance the most is the final person that Eddie meets, the little girl, Tala, that he killed in the fire that he set during the war. Even a child as young as her is able to accept the fatal mistake that Eddie made, and even tactfully teaches Eddie the lesson that she learned about accepting her own fate. Upon realizing that this is the girl he killed, Eddie explains that the darkness that had shadowed him all those years was revealing itself at last, it was real, flesh and blood, this child, this lovely child, he had ... Many adults, researcher, psychiatrist, doctors, parents, and teens have negative comments on corporal punishment. Today, all around the world we see parents discipline their kids in many forms of ways like spankingand multiple people see it as child abuse. Before beginning this controversial debate, we should distinguish the difference between child abuse and corporal punishment. Child abuse is when a parent or a caregiver fails to act upon action like injury, death, and emotional abuse combined with physical abuse. There are many forms of maltreatment, which includes neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional abuse. Corporal punishment is when a parent or legal guardians causes physical pain or discomfort to a child due to misbehaving. Examples include spanking or slapping the child with an open hand or striking with an implement such as a belt, slipper, cane, hairbrush or paddle, and can also include shaking, pinching, forced ingestion of substances, or forcing children to stay in uncomfortable positions. In fact, parents often take it too far when it comes to punishing their child, which soon leads to a bigger issue. Corporal punishment has been around since the Middle age like at school, home, and for when a person convicted a crime. Today, some schools have banned corporal punishment like in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Delaware, etc., because researcher has shown that corporal punishment can cause students more harm and paying less attention in school. What are others opinion about corporal punishment? One parent said, They d been spanked as a child, and they turned out pretty good (Polhemus, Betsy, et al.Is spanking an effective punishment). Scott Morefield who is a blog editor for Raising Godly Children argues that, That spanking and abuse are not synonymous and that corporal punishment has been used by parents throughout civilization. Food monsters are large multinational corporations that control almost all of the food production and distribution worldwide. Examples are General Mills, Pepsico, and Nestle. When the three social theorists arrive at McDonald s, Kant would look through the menu and obsessively ask questions about what farm the chicken in the chicken nuggets came from. • 30. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Progressive Movement Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of progressivism. Prominent political reform movements focused on four main goals: making politics more effective, limiting the power of big business, ameliorating poverty, and promoting social justice. In the 1880s and 1890s, labor unions and farm radicals took the lead in critiquing the new industrial order and demanding change. Over time, more and more middle class and elite Americans also took up the call, eventually earning the name progressives. On the whole, middle class progressives proposed more limited measures than farmer and labor advocates did, but since they wielded more political clout, they often had greater success in winning passage of new laws. Thus, while their goals and tactics differed, both radicals and progressives played important roles in advancing reform (Henretta, p 598). • 33. The Impact Of Advancements Of Robotic Technology Essay Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the advancements of robotic technology in libraries. It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots (R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother. Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both learning and cultural hubs of societies, have unique opportunities to introduce the idea of robots. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The war fought between July 28, 1914, and November 11, 1918, during this period of time the perception of war and the casualties of war changed immensely. This changed of perception can be established through the poets of Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke. In the poems, The Soldier (1914), by Rupert Brooke, and Dulce et Decorum Est (October 1917), by Wilfred Owen, both poets use language features to help the reader to comprehend each text. The Soldier is a portrayal of Rupert Brooke s eternal love for his country as he goes to war. Brooke uses personification and structures his poem in the form of a sonnet to portray the patriotic love the soldier has for his country. Wilfred Owen describes the grim reality of war in his poem, Dulce et Decorum Est. Through the effective use of metaphors and through the use of the full rhymescheme, Owen s poem leaves a lasting image on the mind s of the audience. Between the poems Dulce et Decorum Est and The Soldier, there are a number of similarities. The use of Titling, is established to mislead the audience, in the sense that the terms are used to contradict the content and theme of the poem. The Soldier evokes melancholy, but in reality the poem reveals that fighting in war is for the sole purpose of defending one s country, and showcasing your nationalism. Often times in the fast pace world that college students live today many get so caught up in sheer memorization of everything that comes their way just to pass with that sought after A. What is often looked past is the true meaning of concepts and ideas to retain the information needed for success. It was this very mindset instilled with in great men such as Ivan Pavlov, B.F. Things that shouldn t be all that scary but over time have developed a stimulus that causes a reaction (Field Purkis, 2012, cited in Weiten, 2017). There are four basic terms that are very key in understanding classical conditioning. First, unconditioned stimulus (UCS), is a stimulus that evokes an unconditioned response without previous conditioning (Weiten, 2017). The unconditioned stimulus is a stimulus that occurs naturally without any outside interaction. This is something that happens in a person s daily life, with no thought given to it. The second term is the unconditioned response (UCR), an unlearned reaction to a nonconditioned stimulus that occurs without previous conditioning (Weiten, 2017). This is the natural reaction to the natural stimulus. Nothing has been learned or conditioned yet, these are both baseline things happening in a natural form. Third, conditioned stimulus (CS), a previously neutral stimulus that has, through conditioning, acquired the capacity to evoke a conditioned response (Weiten, 2017). Time after time the neutral stimulus slowly become the conditioned stimulus, it has slowly been developed and learned to create a stimulus. It is not something that is recognized while it is happening, gradually helps itself in the forming of the stimulus. Lastly, the fourth term, conditioned response, a learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus that occurs because of previous conditioning (Weiten, 2017). This is where the ... • 42. Government Intervention Lies Conviction Of The Existance... At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim to maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum Pareto function properly (Francis M. Bator, 1958) . In other words, the marketreduces the utility and waste resources. It must therefore step a mediator usually government or legislative body which will correct existing errors, improving the existing condition of things, that is, increasing the usability and improving allocation. Interventionism is often called the third way, mixed economy, social market economy or the welfare state and the main purpose of it is to achieve compromise between capitalism, which is identified with the market econmy, and socialist system where the predominant form is centrally planed economy. The term market failure, which for he first time appeared in 1958 (Francis M. Bator, 1958), defines situation where the market does not perform in a rational ways its basic functions; motivational and allocative. According to F.M.Bator, the market fails when people are fully dedicated to their private interests what in fact leads to inefficiency. F.M. Bator argues that businessmen`s desire for a ``quiet life`` is oposed to the fact that ` they have to do with the efficiency of ``real life`` market institutions operated by ``real life`` people in a ... King Lear slowly starts to descend in the complexity of insanity and his first sign of madness can be seen through this quote ...Look look, a mouse! Over time, he starts to realize that he made himself fall into this trap and Regan and Goneril are the reason for his madness and lastly, he learns to conquer his madness; however, it leads to a misfortune. His loss of identity as a noble can be seen as a form of madness.
