The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From...
The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1
6. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short
verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says,
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is
apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also
apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is
history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being
apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is
about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the
boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from
making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the
New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside
of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the
slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New
Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5?
While the chosen pericope starts talking about the

Stereotypes In Paul Theroux sBeing A Man
There are two types of men portrayed by the media. There is the lazy dad who spends all day
sitting in the recliner eating potato chips and watching television. This man always has his wife
taking care of everything while he is a bumbling fool who can do nothing right. This man is
harmless and unintelligent. Then there is the actionhero man. This man has a rugged, muscular
build and is usually very attractive. He can accomplish any task using his fist, but struggles to
think through things logically. Every man sees these two stereotypes and begins to try to fit one
of them. This leads the man to ask himself the question What is a Man? . Being a man is not
letting stereotypes define him, standing firm in his convictions, but being accepting of others at
the same time, knowing when or when not to take action, and having a dream. If asked what
does it mean to be a man? the most common responses would be answers like protector, provider,
and taking charge. While there is inherently nothing wrong with these answers the real problem
lies in the fact which all men cannot live up to these standards. These men are left questioning
themselves on their masculinity. A man should not let stereotypes define him. Paul Theroux
addresses many of the common stereotypes in his essay Being a Man , I was told to take up a
sport, get more fresh air, join the Boy Scouts, and I was urged not to read so much. and
Being a drunkard is another assertion, if misplaced, of manliness... A man proves his manhood
in America in old fashioned ways. He kills lions, like Hemingway; or he hunts ducks. like
Nathanael West; or he makes pronouncements like, A man should carry enough knife to defend
himself with, as James Jones once said to a Life interviewer (Theroux). Theroux addresses these
common stereotypes to prove how futile they are. A man should not let other people s idea of how
a man should be influence them. Many of the stereotypes listed by Theroux are unfeasible and
hard for any man to accomplish, further adding to the futility of them. Scott Russell Sanders
compares two common stereotypes of men in his essay The Men We Carry in Our Minds . Sanders
address the stereotype of the rugged muscular man who works all of his life

Abusive Relationships
Introduction
Abusive Relationships are created mentally and physically. In my opinion, the definition for abuse
describes a person with harmful intents; lacking concern, compassion, or affection for another
human being. The following annotated bibliographies will express different stages of abuse in set
climates. The purpose is to evaluate opinions of the authors selected with the most relevant
connections to the behavior patterns of abusive relationships. The Effects of Abusive Relationships

Descriptive Essay On The Day In The Night
Lima Mall, it sounds boring, but when going with my Aunt Mercedes it ends up being a blast.
We end up looking like really big goofballs whenever we go out in public. When we go shopping
at Lima Mall we look like crazy, ladies, because my weird personality forces me to act like I am
not normal. Cedes tries to keep her son Emery and I behaving, and it makes me laugh, because
she looks mean. Emery, Cedes, and I go around looking for one specific store, so we end up
wandering around lost until we realize that we had passed it at least once. Two peas in a pod,
that is what I call Cedes and I, also I would call us the two goofballs in the family. I continue to
look up to Cedes. She remains near and dear to my heart, and she always will. Humorous, a word
that anyone can use to describe my Aunt Cedes. Every time I greet her at the door she smiles,
and when she comes inside she plays with my dog Ivy, it causes me to laugh because Cedes
chases Ivy around. Cedes has her ups and downs, but no matter what happens to her if she has a
rough day she still makes spending the night at her house an amazing time. First, when we hang
out we do not take pictures together, but when we do they are funny because we will make ugly
faces. When Cedes gets bored at work she sends me videos or pictures on Snapchat, and they
make me laugh. Cedes ends up making a quick trip to my house to pay my mom, but always ends
up staying for an hour or more. Cedes makes any situation a good one, or she at

Our primary interest is to assess the adequacy of the literature in informing corporate managers
how, when, and where to make pro environment investments that will pay off with financial returns
for long term shareholders. To do so, we create a conceptual framework that maps the influence of
regulators, public health scientists, environmental advocates, consumers, employees, and other
interested parties upon corporate financial returns. Our discussion has relevance to all parties
interested in influencing corporate actions that affect the environment.
2. An Investigation of the Perceived Financial Performance
Abstract
This paper is primarily based on Rogers diffusion of innovations theory and Auger s empirical study.
An empirical research study was conducted to investigate the perceived financial performance of
commercial printing firms for conducting business to customer (B2C) activities using Web
technology. Financial performance was measured using four financial indicators: sales, profits,
costs, and return on investment (ROI). The diffusion of innovations theory states that an innovation
brings changes to a company. Web technology is an innovation that affects company s performance.
This paper investigates the effect of Web technology on commercial printing firms financial
performance.

Nietzsche s View Of The Western Bourgeois Society
The late 19th and early 20th centuries brought forth a modern approach to science, intellectual
affairs, and the arts. Before 1914, these ideas were a result of the Scientific Revolution and the
Enlightenment periods. During this time period there were a series of new inventions, which
included electric lights, phonographs, cinema, and automobiles. One of these developments that
opened the way to a modern consciousness was with developments in science. Science was a field
that dealt with cold hard facts and reason, which is different from the religious beliefs that many
individuals were used to seeing. Many believed that the Scientific laws of the time would give rise
to an understanding of the physical world, however the new physics altered... Show more content on

Instead of artists applying brushstrokes towards paintings that encompassed realistic ideas, a new
type of theme was known in the early 19th and late 20th centuries. This new theme of art came
from Impressionism, which was a movement in France that dealt with painting outside of the
studio or museums and painting nature directly. However, these painters did not only paint scenes
from nature but also streets, cabarets, rivers, and busy boulevards, wherever human beings were
present. Impressionists painting referred to originality seen in past artworks by utilizing bright
colors, dynamic brushstrokes, and a smaller scale. By the 1880s a new style of painting had
emerged in France and other European nations, which was Post Impressionism. Post Impressionism
was different from Impressionism in that Post Impressionism emphasized not only on color and
light but also focused more on structure and form. Also, these types of paintings used color and
line to express a personal sense of reality that was different from Impressionism. As Post
Impressionism shifted from objective reality to subjective reality, Post Impressionism was the
beginning of modern art. Two of the most famous Post Impressionists are Paul Cezanne and Vincent
van Gogh, whose famous paintings are Mont Sainte Victoire and Starry Night, separately. Both of
their paintings made use of the

The Life Of The Landscape Essay
The landscape changed quite drastically as we left the lush rainforest behind and entered the
semi arid region in the South of Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada. Green fir trees made
way for golden rolling hills and scrubby terrain. Adding a splash of colour to the otherwise dry
looking terrain were the green vineyards perched against the gentle sloping hills. This might come
as a surprise, but Canada s only desert is home to a growing winecommunity with many award
winning wines being produced here. Welcome to Osoyoos.
As we approached the town, a large lake came into view. Osoyoos Lake is the warmest
freshwater lake in Canada and is surrounded by pristine vineyards along its perimeter. 37 wineries
are now a member of The Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, a non profit organization with a
goal to develop the wine industry in Oliver and Osoyoos through education and promotion. While
driving through the region, we decided to visit a few well known and lesser known wineries and
learn about their history.
Stoneboat Vineyards
We passed many picturesque wineries as we drove through the valley, each offering wine tasting
to anyone who is keen to sample their BC wine. We stopped at Stoneboat Vineyards, a family
owned winery only 20 minutes from downtown Osoyoos. The lovely Julie Martiniuk greeted us,
who together with her husband Lanny, purchased a 15 acre orchard in 1979 and planted their first
vines in 1983. 40 Years later, they now have over 48 acres and are producing award

Women s Rights Movement Analysis
With astonishing inventions such as the cotton gin, the telephone, and the airplane, the industrial
revolution provided major improvements throughout Europe in the 1800s and early 1900s. As
factories spread like wildfire and working hours grew like weeds, new concerning conditions arose.
Child laborers, lack of minimum wage, and indescribable working conditions motivated the
proletariat to speak out for their rights. Events such as the Franchise Act and Chartist Movement
eventually created workers rights in Europe. In accordance with the mass production of steam
engines, railroads, and necessary laws, the Women s Rights Movement emerged from Britain in the
1970 s. Women such as Emmeline Pankhurst pushed for equality with violent protests that... Show

As the Crimean War broke out in the 1850 s amongst Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Britain, and
France, Russia s desire for more territory was crushed by the industrialized western nations. With
Britain s access to coal and the west s constant competition, inventions such as the minie ball,
machine guns, and hand grenades shocked the Russians into mass industrialization and Russian
nationalism. Even though countries like Britain and France had been industrializing and creating
new technology for decades now, their inventions proved to be a new frontier for the Russians.
Furthermore, the Crimean War dealt with ancient warfare, such as horses, and modern warfare,
such as newly industrialized guns. Likewise, innovative warfare presented itself again in The
Great War from 1914 to 1919. German U boats, trench warfare, and poison gas were some of the
many advancements that led to unrestricted warfare and universal issues. Contrary to heavy
armored horseback riders seen just years ago in the Crimean War, World War Ishowed historically
ground breaking technology with mass produced guns and powerful tanks. Although
industrialization occurred rather gradual throughout western Europe, Russia quickly established
themselves as an industrialized nation just years before The War. With the help of two industrial

America is a melting pot of different cultures, religions, ideas and identities, a country which over
the years has been molded, shaped and changed by its people. There are many historical factors that
gone into creating the country as we know it today, but none so influential as the immigration of
millions to the land of opportunity . The millions of people who came to the United States in hopes
of finding a better life greatly affected the course of American history, bring the the country new

The native inhabitants quickly chose to move out of the neighborhoods newly settled by Irish
immigrants.(7) Their movement was influenced by the poverty of the newcomers; they did not
want to live amongst the immigrant s squalor. However, the Irish took this unwelcoming
behavior in stride, they, . . . had a sense of identity and cohesion as a people oppressed by
foreigners in their native land, (8) which helped them to stay together during the rough transition
to American life. Irish Catholics lived in the slums, often cramming 4 families into a 1 family

full of garbage and raw sewage flowed through open trenches. Disease was rampant, as were rats

Herberger And Hale
Hale s production of You Can t Take It With You was breathtaking with its core concepts,
portrayal of emotion, and plot. When comparing this with Herberger s production of You Can t
Take It With You, you can begin to see the ideas mixing together as they bounce of one another so
well. However, not all things were exactly alike in the two seemingly identical versions of the
same play. The first concept in which ideas were ever changing was the interpretation of characters
in both plays. In Hale s production, Grandpa as seen as an slow, semi serious man; but when
looking at Grandpa in Herberger s production, you can see him as a more of a lively, humorous
character. This change in portrayal can also be seen in Rheba. In Herberger s play,... Show more

Some props that I felt were used differently in both productions mostly pertain to the aspect of
music. In the Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You, music is incorporated a lot
in ways such as commercials, cello, and guitar. Hale s show lacked all of these elements that I felt
really helped contribute to the sense of family and fellowship in You Can t Take It With You. By
incorporating the commercials, the audience could effectively be transported to a place in which it
is 1938. This really helped change the mindset of the audience into allowing them to connect with
the characters in the production on a deeper level. The guitar was also very important, because it
also introduce a new member into this family. By adding the guitar, Herberger s production was
able to give the Vanderhoff s a range of kindness/generosity. This showed the audience that the
Vanderhoff s would take in anyone no matter background, personality, or timing of arrival. This
really secured the bond in this wonderfully bizarre group of people, allowing a connection to be

Early Education of Native Americans
Native Americans put up a good fight in defending their homelands against foreign invaders.
Unfortunately, they suffered defeat and realized they would have to adapt to a new way of life.
The battle for their lands was over, but the battle for their identities would just begin. However, it
would not be the hardened warriors engaging in this conflict. Instead, the young Native American
children would witness first hand the American government s solution to the Indian problem.
Boarding schools were established to assimilate Native American children into white society.
These boarding schools had both positive and negative impacts on the children. Education was
seen as the key to saving the Indians and would be forced upon them if necessary (Calloway,
425). The adults of Native American tribes were the first target for this approach (Calloway,
425). However, the plan backfired due to many adults resisting the assimilation project (Calloway,
425). The next step was to go after easier targets; the children (Calloway, 425). It proved to be a
haunting experience for the children as many were pulled out of their own mothers arms
(Calloway, 426). Some children were already attending schools located on the reservation
(Calloway, 426). The education reformers thought it was best to relocate the children to school off
the reservation (Calloway, 426). They wanted to isolate the children from their Indian ways and that
meant taking them away from family and culture (Calloway, 426). At

Declaratory Act

Edward Braddock told Benjamin Franklin The paths to glory lead but to the grave. [Thesis] The
French and Indian War, Virtual representation, and the Declaratory Act altered Americans
perceptions of Britain during the years of 1763 to 1775. The French and Indian War or The Seven
Years War was the beginning of enmity between Great Britain and the colonies. The war was
fought between Britain and France from 1754 to 1763 for dominance of the colonies in North
America. The colonists fought alongside British soldiers and the Native American tribes fought
alongside the French. The colonies wanted to overcome the French in North America and needed
the Kings permission to raise armies and money to defend themselves. The war began in North

The Declaratory Act reinforced parliament s law making power over the American colonies, the
act stated that British Parliaments taxing authority was the same as Great Britain s as it was in
America. This was a hopeful measure in binding the colonies whenever and however it deemed
necessary. So Britain still had its right to govern. The Declaratory Act was more damaging because
it emboldened Britain to pass strict legislation and had very few repercussions. The colonists
resistance became intense and violent towards the British Parliament. Some colonists saw the act as
justifiable and credible measure, yet many thought of it as a way to ease the repeal of the Stamp
Act. The Declaratory Act worried more colonists about petty taxes than earlier attempts. Even
though the Declaratory Act wasn t immediate, it started to have a great impact on the colonists.

Dynamic Vision
Dynamic Vision of Social Justice My dynamic vision of social justice looks like a combination of
individual empowerment and group empowerment. Albano (2015) argues that group empowerment
is the better form of social justice because individual empowerment is a limited way to change the
system and works within the existing power structure. I believe both empowerments are best
combined into an effective approach to social justice. A client cannot even begin to advocate with
the community if he or she still worries about attaining the basic necessities of living like housing
of food. For instance, I work in the San Francisco South of Market (SOMA) district where the youth
organizations and the activist organizations struggle over the response... Show more content on

I know that my vision of justice is smaller in scale than what this MSW program seems to be
advocating. However, I see the value in attending to the immediate needs of my clients because
worrying about whether or not they can eat or where they can live cannot be forgotten in the
struggle toward equality for all. Ever since I wanted to become a social worker, I am very aware
that my passion in social work lies in direct practice with Filipino youth and their families. While
I understand that there will be times when advocacy is needed, I see advocacy as an addition to
what I truly want to do in social work. There are several strengths to performing social justice
within a smaller sphere and employing both individual and group empowerment. One can see
immediate changes in the quality of services to clients. Cohesion and relationship building with
fellow social workers should be a priority because if you cannot even trust your coworkers, being
able to advocate together with the community would not be possible due to infighting over the
goals. This smaller approach takes into account that limited funding and too many caseloads
makes grand gestures for social justice are not feasible to the majority of social workers. I do see
the limitations of a smaller approach, however. Namely, the progress toward social justice is slower
and more minimal to existing structures. As well, much more energy is expended to sustain the
small forms of resistance (Smith,

Classical Realism Vs Neorealism
Throughout the course of history, it had become customary to assume that a state that is fearful of
others and works only to help and protect itself, is the unparalleled genius; this notion is the basis
for the political theory of realism. Neorealism, developed sometime after World War II, is a
reinterpretation of classical realism, which was originally developed in Ancient Greece(M AT 2017,
80). Kenneth Waltz, whose work helped the transition from realism to neorealism, believed that the
structure of the international system was the most important thing to study, being that the
international system is anarchic(Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8). Neorealists have a few core assumptions,
including: believing the international system is anarchic, believing states are self interested, and
that national security is the most important issue concerning states (Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8 9). Many,
such as John Mearsheimer, mentioned later, use these assumptions to predict what future relations
between states, such as China and the U.S. are going to be. As mentioned before, neorealism
derived from the theory of classical realism, and though it had evolved over time, power plays the
most important role in both classical and neo realism. Neorealism holds the principle that states
must look after only themselves because the international system is anarchic. These theories come
to this conclusion because, as quoted in Essentials of International Politics, no higher power exists
to defeat the

Disarmament , demobilization and reintegration are three major aspects of post conflict
consolidation that have been displayed obviously in the authorization of peacekeeping operations
over the last twenty years. Disarmament is the collection, documentation, control and disposal of
small arms ,ammunition ,explosives and light and heavy weapons from combatants and from the
civilian population. Demobilization is the discharge of active combatants from the armed forces
and groups which includes a phase of reinsertion that provides short term assistance to ex
combatants. Reintegration is defined as the process in which ex combatants acquire civilian status
and gain sustainable employment and income. It is also a political, social and economic process
that has an accessible time frame which is generally taking place in local communities. This clearly
illustrates that world peace can exist among countries

Life In Pompeii
Life Before the Eruption
The year was 79 A.D. The people of Pompeii were going about their daily lives, when suddenly,
the entire top of the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded. Within days, the entire metropolis
was buried under twenty feet of stones and ash as lethal gas filled the air, causing approximately
22,000 casualties. Because Pompeii was so well preserved by the stones and ash, it provides
insight on what daily life in Pompeii was like. From the archeologists findings we can tell that
some aspects of their lives resemble ours. Like us, the citizens of Pompeii ate on the run, had
similar values and interests, and had many roles to play in their households.

Many artifacts found in the ruins imply this. For example, many of the glasses found in the
ruins had a blue stain in the bottom of them. While it may not seem significant, the blue stain
actually tells us the people of Pompeii liked wine like many adults do today. Another thing we
know about the people of Pompeii is that they ate a lot of bread. In every bakery excavated by
the archeologists, bread pans were found. And from the type of pan we can also tell the bread in
the ruins is the same type of bread sold in Italy today. Weird, huh! We can also tell that the
women liked to wear makeup and pearls were in style back then from the ruins. Now that we ve
discussed their interests, let s discuss their values. Many of the people in the ruins died holding
their children, money, or jewelry ( The Buried City 38). That is how we know what they valued
most.
Yet another way the Romans of Pompeii resemble us is the way they had many roles to play in
their households. Like many of us the citizens of ancient Pompeii were Jacks of all trades.
Findings suggest that high level first aid didn t only take place at the local clinic. It also took
place at home. We can conclude that because surgical instruments have been found in homes. We
also think that much of the sewing of clothes was done by Moms or even Dads. The discovery of
looms in houses implies that much of the clothing wasn t purchased

Who Is Puck In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Although there is no true protagonist in the story, many people would argue that Puck is the most
important character in the Midsummer nights dream play. Many of the major conflicts in this story
happen because of Puck.
For example when Oberon sent Puck to find the magical flower and place it on Demetrius eye .
Since Puck had never seen what Demetrius looks like he accidentally puts the flower juice on
Lysander s eye, causing Lysander to fall in lovewith Helena. Oberon sees the mistake Puck has
made and sends him to fix the problem, so Puck goes out and puts the flower juice on Demetrius
eye while he is asleep. This leads to Hermia and Helena getting in a fight because Hermia blames
Helena for both men falling in love

Tom Brady s Argument Against The Deflategate Scandal
It appears that after roughly 18 months of madness, which included false reports, outside
investigations, Bill Belichick versus Bill Nye The Science Guy and a lot headaches, the
Deflategate scandal has finally come to an end.
Last Wednesday, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York declined to reconsider its
April decision not to overturn four time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady s four game suspension,
handed down by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in May 2015. Consequently, the New England
Patriots quarterback recently ended his fight against the punishment, deciding to forego his final
option of appealing to the Supreme Court.

On defense, the Patriots have one of the best linebacking corps in the league. Headlined by run
stuffer Dont a Hightower and swiss army knife Jamie Collins, New England s group of
linebackers is elite. Adding Terrance Knighton to former first round pick Malcom Brown makes
a scary interior defensive line. There s a ton of talent on the pass rushing front, as well as in the

Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet
This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s Romeo and
Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are
used by business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and
fall. Resonated with me and is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and
ideas that are signs in the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in
the quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of
the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to business professionals and what
the phrase signifies when used in that context.
Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any
given situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros
and cons should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper
information and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor
may be necessary because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and
can give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal.
Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a
great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t
accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the
top. The process may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the
outcome. There is a stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful,
things must be accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of
success in some cases.
Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our
longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought.
People tend to rush the process of life to attain temporary happiness which

In the novel The Secret Life of Bees (2001), Sue Kidd creates a character, Terrence Ray Owens,
that serves as the epitome of internal conflict. Kidd is able to show Terrence s internal conflict
through through a flashback from Lily s friend August, and a series of violent actions inflicted
on his daughter Lily. Kidd s purpose in this novel is to display the ramifications of a broken
home dynamic, in order to show how forgiveness to oneself and others is truly the first step to
finding happiness. It doesn t take us the readers long to find out that T. Ray is an abusive parent,
but it does take us a little longer to discover why he is the way he his. Going in chronological
order of the discoveries within the book, T. Ray s main three sources of internal conflictwhich
produces external conflict with his daughter is the result of his background of war, his wife running
away and eventually dying, and his daughter running away as well. Working backwards, August s
introduction into the book and the knowledge she has on Lily s family divulges quite a lot about
T. Ray than Lily is aware of. As we the readers find out, T. Ray served as a combatant during the
VietnamWar and returned to Tiburon in 1964, the year the book is set in. Drawing on
contemporary knowledge, the Vietnam War was a highly controversial and overall bloody war that

The New World Of Death
I lie against the decrepit, rickety floorboards of our ship. I lie barely awake. The profuse
thoughts that previously encircled me brought a weariness upon me. Bound by a profusion of
apprehension and pity, all my comrades and I set out on this day for our homeland. I do not
perceive Ithaca as being far away physically, albeit the mental endeavour seems as if it will carry
into eternity, or until the end of the world. As if it cannot exist anymore, and reality becomes
only a speck in a vast world of death. As if a whirlpool of thought, emotion, and sound are
suddenly whisked away into a small funnel and absorbed elsewhere. A concept I can imagine, yes,
but I cannot describe simply. It is a thing of imagination after all. Perhaps these... Show more

As I forged on to exit the ship, I felt a warm presence behind me. Hermes swiftly. Hermes wore a
glistening white cloak and held a shimmering, golden staff. My crew mates left the ship and trudged
through the remaining, shallow sea, which was not a substantial amount.
Odysseus, son of Laertes, o Master Mariner, almighty warrior and expert captain, I come to
inform thee of this island you are about to ponder upon. On this island of Agapios lies a truly
petrifying beast, one known as Karibrion. Winged and a flying master, it can also stand on the
earth we stand on. Though it may seem friendly upon your first encounter, do not befriend it.
You will only meet one, and there is a catch associated with this: the one you meet will give you
food but eat seven of your men, or you can leave the island and search elsewhere in hopes of
survival. Be careful, because they move so quickly, you may not notice at first that your men are
missing. Their trickery is nothing to be tested. If it were me, I would stay here. It is the lesser of
two evils.
I did not have the time to thank the delicate, yet tricky soul of Hermes as he vanished away into
the air. I could only imagine that one, likely the one recommended for me, was the lesser of two
evils. Nevertheless, my crew, in front of me, waded through the little amount of water we had yet
to maneuver about and washed up ashore. I followed ponderously in travail.
The island was much more vast than I had imagined, and as I got closer

The sense of hearing allows you to enjoy everything from a good band to the laughter of your
grandchildren. However, hearing loss is common among aging individuals. Understanding hearing
loss causes and how to implement preventative measures will help you savor your favorite sounds.
Hearing loss can be conductive, sensorineural or a combination. Conductive loss can involve the
tiny inner ear bones, the ear drum, or canal. Sensorineural hearing loss relates to nerve damage to
the inner ear and mixed hearing loss includes aspects of each.

Over time, the amount of hearing loss can accumulate with repeated infections.
Similarly, allergies and benign tumors can cause hearing loss. Earwax can cause hearing troubles,
which may or may not be corrected with removal services. If the eardrum has been ruptured, you
will have difficulty hearing.
Otosclerosis is a hereditary conductive hearing loss which usually reveals itself in early adulthood
and sometimes presents sensorineural hearing loss challenges as well.
What Causes Sensorineural Hearing Loss?
Unlike conductive hearing loss causes, sensorineural loss is associated with the function of the
inner ear, including the nerves associated with hearing. Tumors, otosclerosis and other forms of
genetic hearing loss conditions can all contribute to this type of loss.
Meniere s Disease is a disorder that includes progressive hearing loss in the low frequency range.
Additional symptoms include vertigo, tinnitus and pressure in the ear. Proper diagnosis and
treatment are necessary for the treatment of this condition.

Life Of Brian
The film Hail Mary tells the story of the virgin birth. It is told from a modern setting where Mary
works at a gas station owned by her father and Joseph is a taxi driver. Life of Brian built its story on
a satirical parallel of the life of Jesus Christ; he is born the same day as the messiah and therefore
gets mistaken for being him. While both of these films have religious meanings behind them,
they in no way aim to be disrespectful, make fun or take away from the biblical stories. In Life of
Brian his life was parallel to the life of Jesus. Many perceived this as an attack on religion but what
the movie tried to convey and what the members of Monty Python tried to make clear was that
Brian was in no means Jesus. The film opens with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is doing so in a non traditional way because the story is told from a modern perspective. While
Life of Brian is more of a comedy, this film is more serious. It does not mock the Virgin Mary, but
instead it makes us the viewers see this story in a different light. Growing up in a household that
I would consider to be very religious, I never truly thought about the Virgin Mary. It was just a
given that she gave birth to Jesus and joseph and her raised him. What Godard did with this film
was to make us see that it is not as black and white as we always thought it to be. I liked that this
film shows it in modern times because we are able to connect with it more and analyze in
different ways. We never ever think about what Mary may have gone through and how she may
have received the information that she was chosen to conceive Jesus. We don t think about
Joseph and what could possible be going through his mind and being accepting of such situation.
Godard in away makes us see this very well known story in a different light. The film contains
nudity, which can be perceived as disrespectful, but he does in such a way that it adds to the movie
not in a sexual way. Marie s nude body in a scene of the film tossing and turning painfully in bed, is
less fetishized than aestheticized as the earthly representation of an aching soul s trajectory toward
enlightenment.

The Causes Of Fascism
Fascism is a widely debated topic, many theories are proposed regarding its origins, its appeal,
the support it gained from big business and the cooperation it received from the Catholic Church.
What I believe to be an inalienable truth is that early signs of fascism are firmly rooted in the First
World War. To argue that the First World War caused fascism
however is debatable, I will hold the
belief that the First World War was a catalyst for fascism, that fascism as Roger Eatwell puts was
embryonic rather than fully formed (R. Eatwell, Fascism: A History) and that the war created a
unique environment and opportunity for the nurturing and growth of fascist ideologies. I will
discuss what I believe to be the most potent factors that pushed the growth of fascism, the economic
crisis of the 1920s and the subsequent weakening of western liberal democracies, the
discontentment and chagrin of the Italian and German public towards victory and defeat
respectively and most importantly, the threat of Communism and its political manipulation.
Hobsbawm argues that, fascism did not exist before 1919 (Hobsbawm, Age of Extremes). This
paper follows that belief and it allows us to pull our focus towards the time directly post war. It is
in this time that I will argue that the seeds of fascism were planted and that the unstable socio
economic landscape of Europe resulted in volatile nationalist politics in the 1920s and allowed for
the resultant fascism to take root and to grow at an

Nationalism in Quebec and Canadian Politics Essay
During the twentieth century, Canada as a nation witnessed and endured several historical events
that have had a deep and profound influence on Canadian politics. The most influential and constant
force in twentieth century Canadian politics has been the increasing power and command of
Quebec nationalism and the influence it has had on Canadian politics today. Quebecnationalism has
shaped the structure and dynamics of Canadian federalism from a centralized to a decentralized
form of federal government (Beland and Lecours 2010, 423). The decentralization of several sectors
within the Canadian government has been a direct effect of Quebec nationalism. Decentralization

Finally in 1867, the United Canadas joined two other British Colonies, Nova Scotia and New
Brunswick to form the Dominion of Canada (McRoberts 1991, 413). French Canadians continued to
fight against assimilation and received autonomous privileges with exclusive jurisdiction over
matters regarding its cultural distinctiveness***. Thus, the Francophone language and culture has
always been at the forefront of Quebec priorities. Since Confederation, Quebec nationalist have felt
that the Francophone language and culture has been at risk of assimilation by the rest of Canada.
As a result, Quebec nationalism is fundamentally rooted in the preservation of the Francophone
language and culture (Guiberneau 2006, 52). Political leaders in Quebec continuously urge for the
recognition that Canada is composed of two nations or cultures (McRoberts 1991, 413). Prior to
confederation Quebec enjoyed numerous autonomous privileges. Unfortunately, post confederation
Quebec did not enjoy as many autonomous privileges because Canada was created as a relatively
centralized federation (Beland and Lecours 2007, 406). A centralized federation not only took
several of these autonomous powers away from Quebec, but it also threatened the Francophone
language and culture (Beland and Lecours 2007, 406). With this said, Quebec nationalism has
placed a great deal of pressure on the federal government to decentralize, giving more powers to
provincial governments.

The Sun Is The Only Star
The sun that sends out light to our world is not considered as sun in the evening; it is called as a
star in general because of its structure and history which most of the stars in the universe similarly
have. The sun is a naturally giant star that contains many elements, and magnetically sucks
everything that is close by into its body. Moreover, this almost spherical star, along with its strong
gravity, consists of the fire and lava that are made from the elements, burns and melts down all of
the small meteorites that pass by. The sunis seen to be dangerous as described, but helpful for our

I tried look straight to the sun just for a few seconds. The outcome turned out that I was color
blind for a while. If I have starred at the sun for a minute, I would be blind for life. Another bad
example, that the atmosphere does not protect us from the sun, is our skins. The sun made every
uncovered parts of my body turn darker. When this happened, it took me months to recover my
uncovered skin to have the same color with the covered skin. I do not try to be offensive about the
protection of the atmosphere from the sun, but this is the true. The sun is dangerous, yet it also can
be very helpful and effective to our lives.
The sun allows species, such as human being, on earth to live until they are old enough to leave
and say goodbye to the material world. There is nothing that can replace the sun that is always
helping our lives and planet out of death and extinction. Other stars, indeed, have the same
function as our sun does, but they are too far away from our planet. They are just little dots that
appear during night time to make sky look pretty and fancy. Although our sun is better than other
stars at bringing light and warmness to us, it does not help us at all in the evening because it is in
the opposite side of the earth. What makes the sun disappear at one side of the earth at night and
appear at and shines the other side? That is caused by the spinning movement of our earth. Adding

Prospero s interaction with Caliban may at first be seen as cruel and inhumane. Neverthless,
Prospero does not denounce Caliban without reason and even teaches Caliban a helpful skill, the
skill of language. Prospero s relationship with Caliban shows the readers the cruel side of
Prospero while simultaneously depicting his reasonable side. This interaction is similar to the
interaction between colonists and the New World natives. Colonists would arrive on new and
unknown lands and befriend the natives to gain knowledge about the new terrain. But, once the
colonists had no use of the indigenous people, they were enslaved and used to the advantage of
the mother country. Another character that Prospero has an authoritative relationship with is the
spirit of Ariel. Nevertheless, Prospero s relationship with Ariel is less brutal than his
relationship with Caliban. Prospero also commands Ariel to do things for him that will make it
easier for him to regain his crown, however, Prospero gives Ariel an incentive for complying

In Jordan The Hip Speak Arabibni Analysis
While a variety of rhetorical devices specifics, parallel structure, subordinate transition can aid in
creating a remarkable academic essay, an academic essay style should be coupled with well
developed content. A system to develop analytic thinking, the Aristotelian Topics of Invention are
the pigeon holes in which arguments are stored as Cicero describes them. Because of the Topics
of Invention, the author s claim develops into a full length discussion that helps the readers in
having a comprehensive, specified understanding of the discussion. The variety of topoi enables
the writer to lay out the case for his argument. As we critique Ibon Villelabeitia s In Jordan, the

language purists and exposing a widening social and economic gap in the small kingdom. This
sentence displays the clearness of the author s ideas expressed through his strong writing style as
the reader finds himself receiving the author s thoughts clearly, making Villelabeitia goal achieved

Comparison Of Truth In Oedipus The King And Hamlet
Sophocles and William Shakespeare in Oedipus the King and in Hamlet, illustrate the theme of the
destructiveness of truth through their main characters, who both pursue the truth leading to their
own demise. In Sophocles s Oedipus the King, the protagonist, Oedipus displays characteristics of
being ignorant and persistent, which results in his own self destruction. While in William
Shakespeare s Hamlet, the protagonist, Hamlet, displays characteristics of being cunning and
hesitant, which also lead him to his own self destruction. Each go about the truth differently, but
have the same end result. These characters utilize their characteristics to attempt to find out the
truth and seek vengeance. The attempts of these characters to search for the truth show that

Tiresias, a blind prophet, talks to Oedipus about his ignorance saying, You with your precious

the gods to his parents, King Laius and Jocasta, by killing his father and marrying his mother. In
the play, Oedipus describes how he ignorantly kills a man at a crossroads because the man hits
Oedipus, and being angered, Oedipus then reacts emotionally instead of with logical thinking.

Paracetamol, the most common medicine nowadays, has been used by people for more than
thirty years in order to relieve pain and fever. It acts as a medicine prescribed by doctors. Also, it
can be easily purchased as an over the counter remedy in retail pharmacies and groceries.
Paracetamol can be obtained either in the form of tablets or syrups. Paracetamol injections are
introduced in certain cases too. Such drug is suitable and appropriate for all age groups including
young children. It can be generally applied on people who are allergic to aspirin. Side effects

In order to fully understand the first unit of American Studies I am going to orchestrate a class
in which we explore the major themes and perform exercises to enhance the understanding of
everyone in the class. This class will be titled, Stories: Their Influence and Power. This class will
focus on how stories have the abilities to change people s lives, and will especially focus on the
context of stories in the lives of Native Americans. This class is extremely important because it will
give students insight into not only Native stories, but into their own stories and how their lives

my students perform an activity. I am going to ask each student to think about a time in which
someone made something up about them, and how that impacted their life. Or if they have ever
made up a story about someone else and how they think that impacted the other person s life. We
will then hold class discussion on how a single story, whether true or not, can change the
portrayal of a person. The second story we will analyze in The Truth About Stories is going to
be quintessential to this course and will inhabit a great deal of the time. We are going to look
even deeper into the power of stories and turn it into something personal for the students. We will
start by reading the story about Thomas and his son moving from Utah to Canada, which is
located on page 99. This is a very short story but it packs a great deal of punch. Thomas is forced
to move for a job, and inherently his nine year old son has to come with him. They get caught in

The United Kingdom Banking Industry
The United Kingdom banking industry, in the seventies and eighties, was a competitive and fairly
unregulated market. These two factors in most industries implies that there is room for companies
to grow. However, the market of personal banking was saturated all customers that needed personal
banking already belonged to a bank. The Big Four clearing British banks Lloys, Midland, Barkleys,
and National Westminster dominated the retail bankingindustry. In this industry, where the players
joke that, people are more likely to switch partners than banks, entry into this market would be
very difficult. Only 1 in 30 people switched banks every year. It would take a superb value
proposition and business model to acquire customers from other banks. Prior to the seventies, the
UK banking industry was not very competative. The Big Four flooded the market until the point of
saturation. Then, in the late seventies, the Bank of England allowed banks to offer a more full
range of services, including: share dealing and financial advisement. Furthermore, The Banking Act
of 1979 allowed building societies to offer personal banking services, including check deposit
accounts and unsecured loans. This act dismantled the interest rate cartel in the UK, removing at
least one barrier to entry from the banking and mortgage industry. Now, the Big Four was pitted
against the building societies. Coupled with these legislative changes was a decrease in regulation
of the banking industry. All

How Does Fitzgerald Use Seasons In The Great Gatsby
The time of seasons may corresponds to those numerous situations one may face in their life.
Literature utilizes the surroundings of a character to foreshadow events or to represent a deeper
understanding of characters. In Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, the incorporation of a
specific setting causes the characters to react to the effects in the novel directly corresponds toward
the major situations. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald utilizes the change of seasons for the audience
can have a better understanding of the sudden transitions in the novel. The progression of the
seasons can foreshadow the journey and fate of a specific charactersuch as Gatsby. When Gatsby

6.5. Pre emulsifying extrusion in lipid nanoparticle preparation
Solid lipid nanoparticles and nanostructure lipid carriers are among the most explored nano sized
drug delivery systems. They posses potentials for myriad applications such as targeting DD,
controlled DD, absorption enhancement (MГјller, Radtke et al. 2002). They can be formulated in
most of treatment routes, from topical dosage forms to brain drug delivery. Because of their
lipophilic nature, lipid nanoparticles have great potential to incorporate sparingly soluble APIs to
modulate therapies. Lipid nanoparticles preparation can be categorized into solvent based or non
solvent techniques (Mehnert and Mäder 2001). The later technique can further be divided into two

dispersion with particle size below 200 nm could be obtained that significantly enhanced the oral
bioavailability of fenofibrate compared to a commercial product. In another study, a conjugation
of a sonication probe with an extruder was used to fabricate a nanostructure lipid carrier loaded
with lidocaine (Bhagurkar, Repka et al. 2016). The lipid nanosuspension was formulated to a
topical gel for cutaneous pain management. The drug release profile of the dosage form was
governed by drug release from the lipid matrix, and thus it was claimed to have extended release
effect. Even though extrusion emulsifying effect is not as powerful as that of high speed
homogenizers or colloidal mills, it poses a potential to integrate into a continuous manufacturing
process.
6.6. Pharmaceutical reactive extrusion
The term of reactive extrusion has been used in polymer science for several decades. It is
considered as an efficient mean for continuous polymerization, chemical modification of polymers,
as well as combination of chemical synthesis and shaping polymer products (Tzoganakis 1989). Hot
melt extrusion offers heat and microscale homogenizing simultaneously, thus it has a potential to
melt/soften compounds and blend them together at molecular level. It enables molecular contacts,
and thus chemical reactions without solvent needed. Therefore, melt extrusion is viewed as an

With regard to the relationship between government spending and private consumption, two
opponent points of view can be found. The first one states that there is a relation of substitution
between government spending and private consumption. However, the other one concludes that
government spending and private consumption are complements. Therefore, it can be easily seen
that it is a controversial issue for both economists and policy makers. According to the literature,
several studies have been done to test the relationship between government spending and private
consumption in the context of industrialized countries, OECD countries, and some Asian countries.
Of course, Egypt was not one of these studied cases. Moreover, when a study was done to
investigate this point of research in the context of a group of African countries (Anoruo 2005) that
performed a panel data analysis for 24 countries; Unfortunately, Egypt was not included in this panel
data analysis. As a result, there is a gap in the literature of testing the relationship between
government spending and private consumption for Egypt. Consequently, this study aims to provide
an answer to this important question; does government spending substitute or complement private
consumption in Egypt? Literature Review: Surveying the literature of testing the relationship

Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency ( Access Copyright )...
In the case of The Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency (Access Copyright) vs. York University, I
believe that the plaintiff, Access Copyright, will not be successful in their lawsuit against the
defendant, York University.
Access Copyright is a non profit agency that represents writers and publishers by collecting and
distributing royalty fees on their behalf. Although this is a non profit organization, Access Copyright
does still charge administration fees for their services and enforces a business model that has
worked its way into attempting to monopolize their copyright services by making their presence
mandatory through seeking to implement a permanent tariff for industries to pay if they are not
licensing the rights to copyrighted material through their agency. York University, the defendant, is
one of several Canadian Universities that has been operating outside of the Access Copyright s
temporary tariff since 2011. The wise decision to operate outside of Access Copyright is supported
by the University s proven commitment to ensuring that all access to copyrighted materials for
studying, teaching, and research purposes are being properly used with the appropriate payment to
authors and publishers independently. By ensuring that both the authors and publishers copyrighted
materials are compensated and all royalties are paid directly towards them this cuts out the need for
a middleman, which in this case is Access Copyright.

The Paul Revere
From a lieutenant of artillery to a silversmith, Paul Revere is a man of many talents. He had a
bigger impact on American history then just exclaiming, The British are coming, though. Paul
Revere is important to American society because of his participation in politics, community affairs,
and wars and his craftsmanship. Paul Revere was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1,
1735. Revere was born to Apollos Rivoire, who later changed his name to Paul, and Deborah
Hichman. Deborah had grew up in Boston whereas Apollos moved to the city when he was 13.
Revere was one of twelve children and the third born. Paul Revere dropped out of school
relatively young to become an apprentice to his father who was a silversmith. In 1754, Revere s
father died and being too young to take ownership of the business, he enlisted in the army. It was
during the French and Indian War that Revere enlisted into the army. After just a short time,
Revere was appointed second lieutenant of artillery. This is where he first began a position of
great success that he will use later in his life. He spent the summer at Fort William Henry in New
York. During his stay at the fort, he thoroughly learned what his new position entailed. Not feeling
that the war was his calling, he dropped out and went home to take over family business. In August
of 1757, Revere married Sarah Orne and within just eight short months, they had their first child.
The two had eight children together, but

Essay on Tool Control
Tool control affects safety. Leaving a tool in an aircraft, engine or a piece of support equipment is
not just an inconvenience, it is a safety risk. Realizing this, in our aircraft maintenance department
superiors enforce some sort of tool control procedures. They realize that establishing and enforcing
a toolcontrol program can provide numerous benefits, the foremost of which is safety. The effect
of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on maintenance costs can be significant. For example, the cost to
repair a FOD damaged engine can easily exceed $1 million. FOD can also incur extensive indirect
costs, including: Flight delays and cancellations, Schedule disruptions caused by the need to
reposition airplanes and crews work for flight management... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Tool control has been specifically designed to be used hand in hand with FOD prevention systems
and procedures. Important part of this is the person who has the authority to release the aircraft in
the event a missing tool or all the pieces of the broken tool is not found, which in our case is the
quality assurance representative from him to the maintenance chief and finally the maintenance
officer who has the final word.
The primary objective of the tool control program is to improve flight safety by eliminating aircraft
accidents, incidents, and associated equipment damage caused by lost or misplaced tools.
Secondary objectives include the reduction of expenditures for additional out fitting and
replacement of missing, defective, or pilfered tools; the reduction of man hours for maintenance
task completion; and a general improvement in the quality of aviation maintenance.
Every morning and every after maintenance action we ATAF which means all tools accounted
for. During any job an ataf should be had at all times, but how many times are you supposed to
ataf your tools? An ataf is performed before the cdi checks your box to be checked out, it is then
checked by the cdi so they can check the box out to you to use, before you go out and do your
job on the flight line in the hangar etc. when you get out to your job another ataf should be
performed and you yet again make sure you have all of your tools, any work stoppage for example,

Coastal Dune Systems Serve As A Natural Alternative For...
Chapter 1. Introduction, project aim and main objectives.
1.1 Introduction
Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act
as a barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when
coastal disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the
beach, realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause
waves to break further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded
sand slowly from offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes
absorb the impact of storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas,
protecting structures from flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to
interrupt natural beach processes, increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in
artificial replacement of sand. Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least
expensive defence against shoreline erosion, and is a softer solution since there is no introduction
of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al., 2013; Gomez Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and
Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the Dutch coast, where plenty of research
has been done due to their importance as a line of defence feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et
al., 2012).
Such defences also have downsides, and one of those are transgressive

The Qur an further encourages sex by outlawing celibacy and permitting polygamy, thus reinforcing
heteronormative sexual behavior. Since the purpose of sex is procreation according the religious
text, homosexuality is seen as an aberration of Allah s will which threatens Muslims with
extinction. As a result, there is officially no room for homosexuality or homosexuals within Islam.43
Scholars of shari a, Islamic law, interpret homosexuality to be not merely a sin, but a crime as well.
Despite this, there is no specific punishment for homosexuality; instead, the decision is left to the
discretion of the ruling authorities. Shari a encourages those accused of homosexuality to repent
instead of confessing to the crime . This phenomenon can potentially explain the paucity of
historical literature of punishment of sexual transgressions.44 Islamic law stands for privacy and
protects it by all means. Besides, it repeatedly emphasizes that a person is innocent until proven

  • 2. The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From... The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1 6. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5? While the chosen pericope starts talking about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stereotypes In Paul Theroux sBeing A Man There are two types of men portrayed by the media. There is the lazy dad who spends all day sitting in the recliner eating potato chips and watching television. This man always has his wife taking care of everything while he is a bumbling fool who can do nothing right. This man is harmless and unintelligent. Then there is the actionhero man. This man has a rugged, muscular build and is usually very attractive. He can accomplish any task using his fist, but struggles to think through things logically. Every man sees these two stereotypes and begins to try to fit one of them. This leads the man to ask himself the question What is a Man? . Being a man is not letting stereotypes define him, standing firm in his convictions, but being accepting of others at the same time, knowing when or when not to take action, and having a dream. If asked what does it mean to be a man? the most common responses would be answers like protector, provider, and taking charge. While there is inherently nothing wrong with these answers the real problem lies in the fact which all men cannot live up to these standards. These men are left questioning themselves on their masculinity. A man should not let stereotypes define him. Paul Theroux addresses many of the common stereotypes in his essay Being a Man , I was told to take up a sport, get more fresh air, join the Boy Scouts, and I was urged not to read so much. and Being a drunkard is another assertion, if misplaced, of manliness... A man proves his manhood in America in old fashioned ways. He kills lions, like Hemingway; or he hunts ducks. like Nathanael West; or he makes pronouncements like, A man should carry enough knife to defend himself with, as James Jones once said to a Life interviewer (Theroux). Theroux addresses these common stereotypes to prove how futile they are. A man should not let other people s idea of how a man should be influence them. Many of the stereotypes listed by Theroux are unfeasible and hard for any man to accomplish, further adding to the futility of them. Scott Russell Sanders compares two common stereotypes of men in his essay The Men We Carry in Our Minds . Sanders address the stereotype of the rugged muscular man who works all of his life ... When we go shopping at Lima Mall we look like crazy, ladies, because my weird personality forces me to act like I am not normal. • 8. Nietzsche s View Of The Western Bourgeois Society The late 19th and early 20th centuries brought forth a modern approach to science, intellectual affairs, and the arts. Before 1914, these ideas were a result of the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment periods. During this time period there were a series of new inventions, which included electric lights, phonographs, cinema, and automobiles. One of these developments that opened the way to a modern consciousness was with developments in science. Instead of artists applying brushstrokes towards paintings that encompassed realistic ideas, a new type of theme was known in the early 19th and late 20th centuries. This new theme of art came from Impressionism, which was a movement in France that dealt with painting outside of the studio or museums and painting nature directly. However, these painters did not only paint scenes from nature but also streets, cabarets, rivers, and busy boulevards, wherever human beings were present. Impressionists painting referred to originality seen in past artworks by utilizing bright colors, dynamic brushstrokes, and a smaller scale. By the 1880s a new style of painting had emerged in France and other European nations, which was Post Impressionism. Post Impressionism was different from Impressionism in that Post Impressionism emphasized not only on color and light but also focused more on structure and form. Also, these types of paintings used color and line to express a personal sense of reality that was different from Impressionism. As Post Impressionism shifted from objective reality to subjective reality, Post Impressionism was the beginning of modern art. Two of the most famous Post Impressionists are Paul Cezanne and Vincent van Gogh, whose famous paintings are Mont Sainte Victoire and Starry Night, separately. • 9. The Life Of The Landscape Essay The landscape changed quite drastically as we left the lush rainforest behind and entered the semi arid region in the South of Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada. Green fir trees made way for golden rolling hills and scrubby terrain. Adding a splash of colour to the otherwise dry looking terrain were the green vineyards perched against the gentle sloping hills. This might come as a surprise, but Canada s only desert is home to a growing winecommunity with many award winning wines being produced here. Welcome to Osoyoos. As we approached the town, a large lake came into view. Osoyoos Lake is the warmest freshwater lake in Canada and is surrounded by pristine vineyards along its perimeter. 37 wineries are now a member of The Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, a non profit organization with a goal to develop the wine industry in Oliver and Osoyoos through education and promotion. While driving through the region, we decided to visit a few well known and lesser known wineries and learn about their history. Stoneboat Vineyards We passed many picturesque wineries as we drove through the valley, each offering wine tasting to anyone who is keen to sample their BC wine. We stopped at Stoneboat Vineyards, a family owned winery only 20 minutes from downtown Osoyoos. As factories spread like wildfire and working hours grew like weeds, new concerning conditions arose. Child laborers, lack of minimum wage, and indescribable working conditions motivated the proletariat to speak out for their rights. Events such as the Franchise Act and Chartist Movement eventually created workers rights in Europe. In accordance with the mass production of steam engines, railroads, and necessary laws, the Women s Rights Movement emerged from Britain in the 1970 s. As the Crimean War broke out in the 1850 s amongst Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Britain, and France, Russia s desire for more territory was crushed by the industrialized western nations. With Britain s access to coal and the west s constant competition, inventions such as the minie ball, machine guns, and hand grenades shocked the Russians into mass industrialization and Russian nationalism. Even though countries like Britain and France had been industrializing and creating new technology for decades now, their inventions proved to be a new frontier for the Russians. Furthermore, the Crimean War dealt with ancient warfare, such as horses, and modern warfare, such as newly industrialized guns. Likewise, innovative warfare presented itself again in The Great War from 1914 to 1919. When comparing this with Herberger s production of You Can t Take It With You, you can begin to see the ideas mixing together as they bounce of one another so well. However, not all things were exactly alike in the two seemingly identical versions of the same play. The first concept in which ideas were ever changing was the interpretation of characters in both plays. By incorporating the commercials, the audience could effectively be transported to a place in which it is 1938. This really helped change the mindset of the audience into allowing them to connect with the characters in the production on a deeper level. The guitar was also very important, because it also introduce a new member into this family. By adding the guitar, Herberger s production was able to give the Vanderhoff s a range of kindness/generosity. • 14. Early Education of Native Americans Native Americans put up a good fight in defending their homelands against foreign invaders. Unfortunately, they suffered defeat and realized they would have to adapt to a new way of life. The battle for their lands was over, but the battle for their identities would just begin. However, it would not be the hardened warriors engaging in this conflict. Instead, the young Native American children would witness first hand the American government s solution to the Indian problem. Boarding schools were established to assimilate Native American children into white society. These boarding schools had both positive and negative impacts on the children. Education was seen as the key to saving the Indians and would be forced upon them if necessary (Calloway, 425). The adults of Native American tribes were the first target for this approach (Calloway, 425). However, the plan backfired due to many adults resisting the assimilation project (Calloway, 425). The next step was to go after easier targets; the children (Calloway, 425). It proved to be a haunting experience for the children as many were pulled out of their own mothers arms (Calloway, 426). Some children were already attending schools located on the reservation (Calloway, 426). The education reformers thought it was best to relocate the children to school off the reservation (Calloway, 426). They wanted to isolate the children from their Indian ways and that meant taking them away from family and culture (Calloway, 426). At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Have you heard of virtual representation? Do you know about the Declaratory Act? What do these three things have in common? British General Edward Braddock told Benjamin Franklin The paths to glory lead but to the grave. [Thesis] The French and Indian War, Virtual representation, and the Declaratory Act altered Americans perceptions of Britain during the years of 1763 to 1775. The French and Indian War or The Seven Years War was the beginning of enmity between Great Britain and the colonies. The war was fought between Britain and France from 1754 to 1763 for dominance of the colonies in North America. The colonists fought alongside British soldiers and the Native American tribes fought alongside the French. The colonies wanted to overcome the French in North America and needed the Kings permission to raise armies and money to defend themselves. The war began in North America where Britain and... The Declaratory Act reinforced parliament s law making power over the American colonies, the act stated that British Parliaments taxing authority was the same as Great Britain s as it was in America. This was a hopeful measure in binding the colonies whenever and however it deemed necessary. So Britain still had its right to govern. The Declaratory Act was more damaging because it emboldened Britain to pass strict legislation and had very few repercussions. The colonists resistance became intense and violent towards the British Parliament. Some colonists saw the act as justifiable and credible measure, yet many thought of it as a way to ease the repeal of the Stamp Act. • 16. Dynamic Vision Dynamic Vision of Social Justice My dynamic vision of social justice looks like a combination of individual empowerment and group empowerment. Albano (2015) argues that group empowerment is the better form of social justice because individual empowerment is a limited way to change the system and works within the existing power structure. I believe both empowerments are best combined into an effective approach to social justice. A client cannot even begin to advocate with the community if he or she still worries about attaining the basic necessities of living like housing of food. For instance, I work in the San Francisco South of Market (SOMA) district where the youth organizations and the activist organizations struggle over the response... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know that my vision of justice is smaller in scale than what this MSW program seems to be advocating. However, I see the value in attending to the immediate needs of my clients because worrying about whether or not they can eat or where they can live cannot be forgotten in the struggle toward equality for all. Ever since I wanted to become a social worker, I am very aware that my passion in social work lies in direct practice with Filipino youth and their families. While I understand that there will be times when advocacy is needed, I see advocacy as an addition to what I truly want to do in social work. There are several strengths to performing social justice within a smaller sphere and employing both individual and group empowerment. One can see immediate changes in the quality of services to clients. Cohesion and relationship building with fellow social workers should be a priority because if you cannot even trust your coworkers, being able to advocate together with the community would not be possible due to infighting over the goals. This smaller approach takes into account that limited funding and too many caseloads makes grand gestures for social justice are not feasible to the majority of social workers. I do see the limitations of a smaller approach, however. Namely, the progress toward social justice is slower and more minimal to existing structures. As well, much more energy is expended to sustain the small forms of resistance (Smith, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Classical Realism Vs Neorealism Throughout the course of history, it had become customary to assume that a state that is fearful of others and works only to help and protect itself, is the unparalleled genius; this notion is the basis for the political theory of realism. Neorealism, developed sometime after World War II, is a reinterpretation of classical realism, which was originally developed in Ancient Greece(M AT 2017, 80). Kenneth Waltz, whose work helped the transition from realism to neorealism, believed that the structure of the international system was the most important thing to study, being that the international system is anarchic(Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8). Neorealists have a few core assumptions, including: believing the international system is anarchic, believing states are self interested, and that national security is the most important issue concerning states (Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8 9). Many, such as John Mearsheimer, mentioned later, use these assumptions to predict what future relations between states, such as China and the U.S. are going to be. As mentioned before, neorealism derived from the theory of classical realism, and though it had evolved over time, power plays the most important role in both classical and neo realism. Neorealism holds the principle that states must look after only themselves because the international system is anarchic. These theories come to this conclusion because, as quoted in Essentials of International Politics, no higher power exists to defeat the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people of Pompeii were going about their daily lives, when suddenly, the entire top of the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded. Within days, the entire metropolis was buried under twenty feet of stones and ash as lethal gas filled the air, causing approximately 22,000 casualties. Because Pompeii was so well preserved by the stones and ash, it provides insight on what daily life in Pompeii was like. From the archeologists findings we can tell that some aspects of their lives resemble ours. Another thing we know about the people of Pompeii is that they ate a lot of bread. In every bakery excavated by the archeologists, bread pans were found. And from the type of pan we can also tell the bread in the ruins is the same type of bread sold in Italy today. Weird, huh! We can also tell that the women liked to wear makeup and pearls were in style back then from the ruins. Now that we ve discussed their interests, let s discuss their values. Many of the people in the ruins died holding their children, money, or jewelry ( The Buried City 38). That is how we know what they valued most. Since Puck had never seen what Demetrius looks like he accidentally puts the flower juice on Lysander s eye, causing Lysander to fall in lovewith Helena. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context. Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal. Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of success in some cases. Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought. The Causes Of Fascism Fascism is a widely debated topic, many theories are proposed regarding its origins, its appeal, the support it gained from big business and the cooperation it received from the Catholic Church. What I believe to be an inalienable truth is that early signs of fascism are firmly rooted in the First World War. To argue that the First World War caused fascism however is debatable, I will hold the belief that the First World War was a catalyst for fascism, that fascism as Roger Eatwell puts was embryonic rather than fully formed (R. Eatwell, Fascism: A History) and that the war created a unique environment and opportunity for the nurturing and growth of fascist ideologies. I will discuss what I believe to be the most potent factors that pushed the growth of fascism, the economic crisis of the 1920s and the subsequent weakening of western liberal democracies, the discontentment and chagrin of the Italian and German public towards victory and defeat respectively and most importantly, the threat of Communism and its political manipulation. Hobsbawm argues that, fascism did not exist before 1919 (Hobsbawm, Age of Extremes). This paper follows that belief and it allows us to pull our focus towards the time directly post war. It is in this time that I will argue that the seeds of fascism were planted and that the unstable socio economic landscape of Europe resulted in volatile nationalist politics in the 1920s and allowed for the resultant fascism to take root and to grow at an ... Political leaders in Quebec continuously urge for the recognition that Canada is composed of two nations or cultures (McRoberts 1991, 413). Prior to confederation Quebec enjoyed numerous autonomous privileges. Unfortunately, post confederation Quebec did not enjoy as many autonomous privileges because Canada was created as a relatively centralized federation (Beland and Lecours 2007, 406). A centralized federation not only took several of these autonomous powers away from Quebec, but it also threatened the Francophone language and culture (Beland and Lecours 2007, 406). With this said, Quebec nationalism has placed a great deal of pressure on the federal government to decentralize, giving more powers to provincial governments. Onto ... • 38. The Sun Is The Only Star The sun that sends out light to our world is not considered as sun in the evening; it is called as a star in general because of its structure and history which most of the stars in the universe similarly have. The sun is a naturally giant star that contains many elements, and magnetically sucks everything that is close by into its body. Moreover, this almost spherical star, along with its strong gravity, consists of the fire and lava that are made from the elements, burns and melts down all of the small meteorites that pass by. The sunis seen to be dangerous as described, but helpful for our planet. I tried look straight to the sun just for a few seconds. The outcome turned out that I was color blind for a while. If I have starred at the sun for a minute, I would be blind for life. Another bad example, that the atmosphere does not protect us from the sun, is our skins. The sun made every uncovered parts of my body turn darker. When this happened, it took me months to recover my uncovered skin to have the same color with the covered skin. I do not try to be offensive about the protection of the atmosphere from the sun, but this is the true. The sun is dangerous, yet it also can be very helpful and effective to our lives. The sun allows species, such as human being, on earth to live until they are old enough to leave and say goodbye to the material world. There is nothing that can replace the sun that is always helping our lives and planet out of death and extinction. Other stars, indeed, have the same function as our sun does, but they are too far away from our planet. They are just little dots that appear during night time to make sky look pretty and fancy. Although our sun is better than other stars at bringing light and warmness to us, it does not help us at all in the evening because it is in the opposite side of the earth. What makes the sun disappear at one side of the earth at night and appear at and shines the other side? That is caused by the spinning movement of our earth. Adding to that, our ... Prospero s interaction with Caliban may at first be seen as cruel and inhumane. Prospero s relationship with Caliban shows the readers the cruel side of Prospero while simultaneously depicting his reasonable side. This interaction is similar to the interaction between colonists and the New World natives. Colonists would arrive on new and unknown lands and befriend the natives to gain knowledge about the new terrain. But, once the colonists had no use of the indigenous people, they were enslaved and used to the advantage of the mother country. Another character that Prospero has an authoritative relationship with is the spirit of Ariel. Nevertheless, Prospero s relationship with Ariel is less brutal than his relationship with Caliban. Prospero also commands Ariel to do things for him that will make it easier for him to regain his crown, however, Prospero gives Ariel an incentive for complying with his rules. Throughout the play, Prospero promises Ariel that after he gets his dukedom back, Ariel will be set free to do as he pleases on the island. These two factors in most industries implies that there is room for companies to grow. However, the market of personal banking was saturated all customers that needed personal banking already belonged to a bank. The Big Four clearing British banks Lloys, Midland, Barkleys, and National Westminster dominated the retail bankingindustry. In this industry, where the players joke that, people are more likely to switch partners than banks, entry into this market would be very difficult. Only 1 in 30 people switched banks every year. It would take a superb value proposition and business model to acquire customers from other banks. Prior to the seventies, the UK banking industry was not very competative. The Big Four flooded the market until the point of saturation. Then, in the late seventies, the Bank of England allowed banks to offer a more full range of services, including: share dealing and financial advisement. Furthermore, The Banking Act of 1979 allowed building societies to offer personal banking services, including check deposit accounts and unsecured loans. This act dismantled the interest rate cartel in the UK, removing at least one barrier to entry from the banking and mortgage industry. Now, the Big Four was pitted against the building societies. Although this is a non profit organization, Access Copyright does still charge administration fees for their services and enforces a business model that has worked its way into attempting to monopolize their copyright services by making their presence mandatory through seeking to implement a permanent tariff for industries to pay if they are not licensing the rights to copyrighted material through their agency. York University, the defendant, is one of several Canadian Universities that has been operating outside of the Access Copyright s temporary tariff since 2011. The wise decision to operate outside of Access Copyright is supported by the University s proven commitment to ensuring that all access to copyrighted materials for studying, teaching, and research purposes are being properly used with the appropriate payment to authors and publishers independently. • 55. Coastal Dune Systems Serve As A Natural Alternative For... Chapter 1. Introduction, project aim and main objectives. 1.1 Introduction Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act as a barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when coastal disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the beach, realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause waves to break further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded sand slowly from offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes absorb the impact of storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas, protecting structures from flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to interrupt natural beach processes, increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in artificial replacement of sand. Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least expensive defence against shoreline erosion, and is a softer solution since there is no introduction of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al., 2013; Gomez Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the Dutch coast, where plenty of research has been done due to their importance as a line of defence feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et al., 2012). Such defences also have downsides, and one of those are transgressive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
