John Stuart Mill s Definition Of Quality
John Stuart Mill s definition of quality can be broken down distinctively into four separate definitions.
When evaluating pleasures, J. S. Mill alleged the quality of particular pleasures is determined by how
much pleasure the person obtains from the pleasure, in addition to, how just the pleasure is
beneficially to society. Moreover, Mill argued against ...Bentham s purely quantitative view of
pleasure. Without denying that quantity is a consideration in the calculation of pleasure, Mill believed
that it is not as important as the consideration of quality (MILL S VERSION: QUALITY OVER
QUANTITY ). Therefore, the following details Mill explicates quality and quantity, exemplifying
each of these ideas. First, quality may be defined as the qualities, properties or powers of something.
For example, raindrops have the quality of being small, clear and wet. Meaning, when it rains, the
raindrops hold the power to produce, in a humans mind, the idea and/or feeling of being small, clear
and wet. This idea of quality simply means the power something has. In a second sense, when the
word quality is opposed to quantity , it is a name or label under which we class the properties or
qualities that something possesses other than quantity (Vergara 5). The following compares two items
that only differ in quantity, but not quality. For example, the quality of two bottles filled with the same
type of water has the same quality, however, the quantity of the water differs. Whereas,

Treatment For Adult Male Sex Offenders

Research I Treatment for Adult Male Sex Offenders October 27, 2014 Dr. Chacha Abstract
Introduction The reason for this study is to explain the different types of treatment for adult male sex
offenders. The reason for conducting this research is the interest in getting these offenders effective
treatment. Literature Review History of Sex Offender Treatment Until the mid 1980s the treatment of
sex offenders was conducted primarily in civil commitment programs in a few state hospitals, prisons,
and outpatient clinics scattered around the country. Sex offenders were often treated using a variety of
psychodynamic and client centered techniques. A major shift in the field came in 1983 with the
publication of an article that presented for the first time a relapse prevention model designed for
sexual offenders (Pithers, Marques, Gibat, Marlatt, 1983). Pithers and Marques adapted the work
pioneered by Marlatt for alcoholics. Relapse prevention is essentially a self control model that teaches
the individual to identify and recognize a unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and situations that
precede and lead to relapses. Relapse in the case of sex offenders is a re offense. This pattern has a
signature quality to it. It is tailored to the cognitive, affective, and situation markers that are unique for
each individual. Once the pattern is fully understood, the individual learns

Intense competition from local and overseas retailers
Emerging foreign and local companies like Diaso Japan and Mustafa 24 7 shopping centre has seen
impressive growth since their inception in Singapore. It is gaining popularity for its affordable and its
wide selection of goods ranging from daily groceries to electronic gadgets. Furthermore each has a
unique traits for its popularity. For Diaso Japan, most imported goods from Japan are sold under $5.
Whereas for Mustafa it operates 365 days all year round services. Also, goods are considerably
cheaper as compared to other outlets in Singapore.

Midsummer Night Dream Creative Response Essay
The creative response I have written is a modern parody adaption of act two, scene two and act three,
scene two. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of
balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the
romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a
magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances.
My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these
couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that
the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean
that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that
represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in
the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the
letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original
Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the
original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the
letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. My adaption is

The Assassination of President Lincoln Essay
The Assassination of President Lincoln The assassination of President Lincoln was so tragic because
both Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth both believed they were doing the right thing. Abraham
Lincoln wanted freedom for all because he believed that was right. He knew not everyone agreed and
that was why America was having a Civil War but he felt that it was the right thing to do. John Wilkes
Booth believed that there should be slaves in the south and did not agree with President Lincoln at all.
He believed that everyone really agreed with his way of thinking but they were too scared to stop him.
John Wilkes Booth thought he was doing the right thing he thought people would love and honor him
for killing Lincoln. It s interesting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Lincoln had a civil war arising, on the early morning of April 12, 1861, that was the morning
when The American Civil War officially began. Fort Sumter, was one of only two forts in the Southern
states that had seceded still under federal jurisdiction, it was brief and ended on April 14, and rebel
Confederate victory.
Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee also believed that what they were fighting for was the right thing.
Ulysses S. Grant, was the commander of the union army, he was fighting for Lincoln s. Robber E. Lee
was a general for the confederate army of Northern Virginia. They were both very good leaders, and
stood for what they believed in. Grant was elected President of the United States; Lee had Lincoln
offer him a job for the general confederate army. So they were both very good hard working men and
would stant up for what they believed in. Their appearance were much different, Grant he was a
sloppy dresser, but for Lee he dressed in a proper uniformed. They became famous and considered one
of the greatest military leaders in United States history.
Beaten down by the Civil War, and the stress of keeping the country together, President Lincoln had a
lot of things on his mind. Lincoln, during the Civil War was going through a lot of problems trying to
free slaves, and trying to keep all Americans happy. During the war he had to deal with the stress of
having huge amounts of Americans die each day.

Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism
Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism It was the day February 4, 2002 in Afghanistan, the day of
the first authorized drone strike by the U.S. A CIA Predator drone prowled the skies in search of prey.
It was searching for a group that the CIA suspected to include Osama Bin Laden. After some time, the
group was located, and the Predator drone fired on the group, killing all of the targets. After further
insight, it was discovered that the targets, now all dead, were just civilians gathering scrap metal (
Should the United ). Should drones be used for military strikes on terrorism? This is an ongoing
modern debate, which has very contrasting viewpoints. Drones are used in military operations, usually
in sudden aerial strikes aimed to quickly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When targets are disposed of through means of remote controlled drones, the U.S becomes
disconnected with the war itself. Drone Pilot Colonel D. Scott Brenton himself admitted that in
conducting drone strikes with just a screen and controls, he feels no connection or emotion for the
people he kills ( Should the United ). This should not be so. Through this, the U.S is able to go to any
measure and continue any conflict as it pleases with no remorse for the cost of human lives. This
further enables the U.S to disregard moral principles, at the cost of as many human lives as the U.S
pleases. War should have restrictions, and every life should be bargained and reasoned with. With this
disconnect though, the U.S uses as much force as it pleases in conflicts that threaten their interest.
This disconnect through drone strikes also allows the U.S not to notice or care for how it is spreading
to the general civilian life in the affected regions. According to witnesses and researchers, drone
strikes are harming local populations beyond death and physical injury ( Should the United ). Many
witness that the people in affected regions live in constant fear of drone strikes, and are afraid to travel
or participate in any sort of meeting. Many incidents of local deaths and injuries due to these drone
strikes plague the population, and many people consider the drones to be

American Beauty
From when Carolyn arrives home until the end of the scene with Lester in their living room (Chapter
19: 1:14:35 1:17:40)
The movie American Beauty literally is trying to express how much beauty there is in America but it
is not always so easy to see. Often in the film objects normally thought of as ordinary are magnified to
express deeper meaning and show what beauty really exists in the world. The color red, for instance, is
an ordinary color but it shows its face numerous times throughout the movie. The color is not just
ordinary it is significant, as it represents love, passion, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In an instant the moment ends when Lester almost ruins her precious couch. Carolyn returns to being
uptight and materialistic and Lester to being angry. He becomes so angry with her because she has let
material things be her life. This shows how important love, passion, and happiness in life is, what it is
really about, and how hard it is to maintain all in only a few short minutes. The cinematography in the
film does a wonderful job conveying the genuine meaning behind the sequence as well. The camera is
placed far from the actors at the beginning of the scene and becomes closer and closer as the desire
between Lester and Carolyn grows. When Carolyn relapses and becomes upset about the couch almost
getting ruined the camera goes out again and the actors are surrounded by all of the material items in
the room. In that frame it is clear that the more intimate, close up scene was more tasteful to see than
the angry room full of expensive furniture. Through this sequence the viewer should be able to
understand the social issue addressed; that today Americans ignore the raw, pure beauty in the world
and instead are obsessed with the amount of objects that they can own. Natural beauty is disappearing,
while store bought beauty is growing. In time this will destroy true happiness. The film is touching the
viewer s heart and mise en scene and cinematography do a wonderful job at exposing the actuality

After reading your essay, I would conclude that the topic of your essay is about the mistreatment of
elderly people living with Alzheimer s in nursing homes and that you are arguing that these
individuals are more likely to suffer abuse because of several factors such as inability to report the
abuse, uncaring staff, and incompetent staff that lack training in patient care and equipment use. There

Preludes
Preludes TS Eliot Relevant Background ‱ Thomas Stearns [TS] Eliot was born in into a wealthy

‱ His father was president of a brick making company. His mother wrote poetry and was once a

of how differently some people lived inspired a lot of the descriptions found in ‘Preludes . ‱

Or it may be the cab driver. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the ‘you of the poem, as she
stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. ‱ It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the
others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as
his way of painting the picture. ‱ The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. ‱ Residents, living
probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are
probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned
into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. ‱ By
linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of
‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are
set in a red light district of a city. ‱ The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is
beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because
people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out
. Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? ‱ The weather is bad; a windy
shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. The cold rain evaporates as steam off the

The Importance Of Net Neutrality
Net neutrality is the idea of internet users should have equal access to internet content without any
restrictions. Net neutrality has been around since the early 2000 s and it is a debate between
government regulations concerning internet content and Internet providers (ISPs). This debate covers
a set of Internet rules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internet
providers efforts to reduce access to certain sites or internet services. The FCC is an agency of the U.S
government responsible for developing the regulations of internet. This event started in 1934 when the
Communications Act placed restrictions on companies providing telegram and telephone services and
established the FCC must have the authority to prevent carriers from restricting the flow of
information for political, personal or financial reasons. In the 1996, Telecom Act defined Internet
service providers as information services rather than telecommunications services.
In 2005, the FCC announced its commitment to keep the accessibility of internet to everyone. ... Show

This action caused that the supporters of net neutrality started to consider a new era for the internet
service. In May of 2014, more than 3.7 million people responded to the new set of regulations, the
results showed that the majority supported net neutrality strongly. This action also resulted in an
Internet protest, but the ISPs responded almost immediately with something called the Internet
Slowdown; this means that the companies provide slower access to websites to demonstrate the effect
of paid prioritization. The FCC made a decision that would not just affect regular customers, but also
schools and education technology companies would be affected by these new

Aditive Approach
The United States is full of different ethnicities and races with different cultures and are accustomed to
a variety of different behaviors and ways of learning. It is essential that the curriculum within the
Nation s schools, colleges, and universities are reflected to the ethnic, cultural, and racial diversity
within the United States. Schools, colleges and universities are using various approaches to inspire
ethnic content into the curriculum, including the contributions, additive, transformation, and social
action approaches. To respond adequately to the ethnic realities with the nation and the world, the
curriculum should be transformed and should help students to develop decision making and social
action skills. According to the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Major goals of instruction in this approach are to educate students for social criticism and social
change and to teach them decision making skills. For example, promoting human rights and peace at
schools and working to ensure that the schools building and activities do not harm the environment.
To empower students and help them obtain political efficacy, the school must help them become
reflective social critics and skilled participants in social change (Banks 1989). The traditional goal of
school has been to socialize students so they would accept unquestioningly the existing ideologies,
institutions, and practices within society and the nation state.
I believe that each approach stated by James Banks is important in its own way and do not over power
one another. The four approaches to the integration of ethnic content into the curriculum I described
above are often mixed and blended in actual teaching situations. An important goal that all of these
approaches share are teaching about racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity which should be to empower
students with knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to participate in civil action that will help
transform our world and enhance the possibility for human

The Age of Enlightenment and Rebellion against Authority...
The Age of Enlightenment saw many great changes in Western Europe. It was an age of reason and
philosophes. During this age, changes the likes of which had not been seen since ancient times took
place. Such change affected evert pore of Western European society. Many might argue that the
Enlightenment really did not bring any real change, however, there exists and overwhelming amount
of facts which prove, without question, that the spirit of the Enlightenment was one of change

During the Pre Enlightenment and Enlightenment periods, man began to question that model of the
Universe. Copernicus revolutionary model of the Universe placed the Sun at the centre of the
Universe. Though Copernicus ideas were only allowed to b e published as he was on his deathbed, the
Church grudgingly agreed to Copernicus model of the Universe as it still placed man s solar system in
the centre of the Universe. Later, Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler adjusted Copernicus model so that
it fit both observation and mathematics. The final Enlightened blow to the Catholic Church came
when Isaac Newton proposed and subsequently proved that not only is out planet and the solar system
not at the centre of the Universe, but that the Universe itself is a machine: it can be governed only be
natural and physical laws. This presented a great change in society and proved to be a most fatal blow
to the Catholic Church. For, if the Universe is governed by natural and physical laws, how could God

Racial Segregation In Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham, Alabama was described by King to be probably the most thoroughly segregated city in
the United States and was heavily impacted by racial discrimination. The city was in need for change,
the failure in previous desegregation campaigns did not benefit the predominant racism that occurred
in Birmingham. In 1963, Birmingham had a population of almost 350,000 people, 60% white and 40%
black meaning white dominated in numbers. Racism occurred everywhere, Birmingham had no black

Accuracy In Michael Cunningham s Specimen Days
Michael Cunningham s strange and elegiac Walt Whitman hued novel Specimen Days is prefaced with
an author s note in which Cunningham succinctly articulates the dilemma historical fiction forces on a
writer: Novelists must usually decide what degree of slavish accuracy would make their stories more
alive, and what degree would make them less. Still, he writes, there are some novelists, who wouldn t
think of tampering with recorded fact, and I know and greatly admire a certain writer who invents
everything... When questioned about it, he simply says, It s fiction.
For much of my life as a reader, I tended to side with the certain writer, insofar as I didn t much care
about hyper accurate details about details in general, to be honest. I tire easily of lengthy description
and rigorous itemizing. My inner imagination doesn t really incorporate them into its narrative vision,
anyway. And since I only possess a selective knowledge of history, precise allegiance to recorded facts
or exact procedures has always been less important to me than dramatic artistry. Story was all it didn t
matter what the structure was built out of, only that the whole functioned as the design intended. ...

The Virgin Of Guadalupe And La Virgen De Guadalupe
In the final resolution concerning religion, Chicanas declare, Revolutionary change of [the] Catholic
Church or for it to get out of the way. On the resolutions listed under sexuality, Chicanas mention how
they recognize their suppression under the Catholic Church, how religion and culture control their sex
lives, and the guilt complexes pressured onto them when they challenge the institution. Each of these
themes are depicted through the cultural and religious symbol of the Virgin of Guadalupe. La Virgen
de Guadalupe or The Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico, represents a central image of
Mexican Catholicism. The Catholic Church utilized the symbolic image of the Virgin of Guadalupe to

The Virgin ordered Diego to collect Castilian roses around the hill and she helped him arrange them
into his cloak. On December 12 when Diego returned to the Archbishop, he opened his tilmĂĄtli or
cloak in which the image of the Virgin appeared. In response, the archbishop honored the Virgin s
request and built an altar in her honor. Today, The Basilica de Guadalupe in Tepeyac stands in
dedication to the Virgin s first appearance and remains the most visited Catholic shrine. Because of the
Virgin s Mexican history, she holds great significance to Mexican Catholics, so it is no surprise why
the Virgin remains inherent in Mexican culture, or as literary scholar Debra J. Blake so aptly defined,
Guadalupe equals Mexico. Both men and women admire the Virgin, but her religious setting provides
a context for oppression through the church. NietoGomez explains how the church utilized Guadalupe
s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became the model of how to make oppression
a religious obligation. This is the heritage of the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for
themselves by weaving the Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. By
applying this method through the guise of subjugation, the Church rationalized their need to protect
women in order to maintain their pure, moral status. Paradoxically, feminine virtues expressed by the
Virgin as to be employed by women represents many contradictory elements. Debra

Essay on The Flu Epidemic F 1918
Walking down any given street in the year 1918 between the months of June and December, one
would take notice of coffins lining the sidewalks. Nobody was on the streets, and dead bodies were
stuffed into every available space. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 not only was the most devastating event
of the twentieth century, but propelled the United States to search for a vaccine that has not yet been
found, causing concern that the flu will strike again.
Influenza has been around almost as long as people have walked the earth. Its roots draw back as far

On August 12, 1918, Mrs. Olsen became the first person to die of influenza, beginning the killing
streak that would make influenza the number one killer (Persico 30). It spread like wildfire, with one
person falling ill, followed by another, 107 by afternoon, 522 by the end of the week, and 1,127
suffering with 46 dead five weeks later. Nevertheless, these occurred before influenza was discovered,
and pneumonia was blamed for deaths (Persico 28).
There have been about 20 million reported deaths due to the influenza of 1918. The doctors were too
overwhelmed by the many cases they had to care for, which brought about many unreported cases,
causing this minuscule number. One fateful day in October 759 people died in Philadelphia (Kolata 19

the virus. Arrests were made for spitting and coughing, public meetings were prohibited, and a series
of medical procedures were all attempts to prevent the virus from entering victims lungs (Persico 83).
This new influenza baffled researchers and doctors everywhere. Up to this point, all viral diseases has
spread prominently throughout heavily populated areas and into the lungs of the very young, very old,
or sickly. On the contrary, the Influenza of 1918 swept through the Midwest and preyed on the

Children Should Not Withhold Discipline From A Child
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him

brand name all over the world, and the products of Apple are so popular among the electronics lovers.
Consumers recognize the Apple brand as a symbol of trust as well as reliability. Apple is a U.S based
company, and now by revenue it is the largest information technology company in the world which is
approximately 233 billion. In 1976, the company was established by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and
Ronald Wayne. On the other hand, the brand name of Nokia has lost its credibility recently. Nokia is a

How Did Voltaire Criticize The Enlightenment
Voltaire once stated, God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.
The three thinkers I picked to write about the Enlightenment was René Descartes, Baruch Spinoza,
and Voltaire. René Descartes was important to the Enlightenment because he used math and logic to
question religions and peoples belief in faith. Baruch Spinoza was important to the Enlightenment
because he questioned religion. Voltaire was important to the Enlightenment because he was the one
specialized in satire during the Enlightenment. The reason I chose Descartes, Spinoza, and Voltaire

The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it is
one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in their
respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously going for,
it sends the message that those within a higher income bracket are able to dictate the set prices in real
estates. Furthermore, this financial inequality goes beyond just the housing market. Areas that have
seen the wholesale installment of the businesses that stem from gentrification are often overlooked

Mat 540 Week 4 Case Study
The explanation for the answer to the given question is as follows: Hence, the current stock available
is 180 units. To find out the probability of the company running out of the stock of 180 units within a
time of next 3 weeks, let s take z as a value that should be checked in the standard deviation table in
order to find the probability... Let us first find the value of z , for which we should know the mean
demand of the period of 3 weeks: So to do this we can assume that the demand for week one is 65
units, for week two is 50 units and for week three is 45 units. Mean Demand of the period of 3 weeks
is equal to the Sum of mean demands of per week that is,60+55+45 = 160 Now, let us determine the
standard deviation for the period of 3 weeks, as it is mentioned in question. So, lets instead find
variance of per week, and take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, First week difference = 60 55 = 5. Second week difference = 55 45 = 10. Third week
difference = 45 60 = 15. Variance for week one is 25. Variance for week two is 100.Variance for week
three is 225. (Since square of any negative number gives us a positive number). Hence, variance of 3
weeks is equal to the Sum variance of per week that is, 25+100+225=350 Standard Deviation of 3
weeks is equal to the Square root of the variance of 3 weeks that is, Square root of 350 = 18.71. Now
that we have the found the mean and standard deviation of 3 weeks, let s find z value by using the
formula: Z = ( total value total mean ) / standard deviation that is,Z = 180 160/18.71 = 1.07. Now we
have to check the value of 1.07 in the standard deviation table, On checking we get the value as
85.77% this is probability that the units will be sufficient for the period of next 3 weeks, Hence, the
probability of the company running out of units = 100 85.77. Therefore, the probability of the

we protect from the credit cards frauds .In our project, we used many strategies to sold our credit cards
such as marketing strategies and market challenger strategies.
Credit Card What is a credit card? . A modern credit card is a rectangular piece of plastic, graphite, or
a metallic alloy, that identifies a financial account. All contain a magnetic strip on the back, and some
contain an RFID chip. An account number and the owner s name or business name may be imprinted
on the front (Landes , 2013) . We made a project deals about with credit card. From that project, we
got a lot of experience deals with credit cards. Why do people used credit cards ? . There are 10

Reactivity Of Hcl Acids With Cells Lab Report
Reactivity of the HOCl acids with cells
The reactivity of HOCl has been comprehensively assessed with in a wide range of cellular systems,
including yeast (Carmona Gutierrez et al., 2013) and bacteria (Winterbourne and Kettle, 2013;
Winterbourne et al., 2006; Chapman et al., 2002), together with many studies focused on specific
mammalian cell types and tissues. It is clear from the numerous invitro studies that HOCl is highly
reactive and destructive, inducing cell death via both necrotic and programmed apoptotic pathways,
depending on the oxidant concentration and cell type under study.

Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, the continued exposure of macrophages to HOCl has been shown to
exacerbate the inflammatory response in a number of disease settings, which is particularly relevant
with in the progression of atherosclerosis (Daugherty et al., 1994). It has been shown that exposure of
both murine macrophage cell lines and primary cultures of human monocyte derived macrophages
(HMDMs) to physiologically relevant concentrations of HOCl results in the loss of cell viability. In
early studies employing the murine macrophage cell line P388D1 SchraufstÀtter and co workers

cellular supernatants. Both of these methods are indicative of disruption to the cellular membrane and
are used extensively as surrogate markers of cell death. In these studies, it was shown that exposure of
cells to HOCl concentrations as low as 25 ”M decreased cell viability by approximately 20%
compared to controls, with 50 ”M HOCl causing up to 50% cell death, and complete cell lysis

On Nuclear Disarmament Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Our challenge is to reconcile, not after the carnage and the mass murder, but instead of the carnage
and the mass murder. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call to save
humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does not know if we
are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the meantime. The claim
made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and thoroughly expressed. Sagan
presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, hyperbole, and repetition drawing
the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage. Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure
illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a species. He says, A house divided against itself
cannot stand. Let me vary it a little: A species divided against itself cannot stand. A planet divided
against itself cannot stand. This type of rhetorical device moves the listener gradually from a house
divided to a planet divided, demonstrating the effect on every living person. When Sagan speaks of the
inscription on the Eternal Light Peace Memorial, A World United in the Search for Peace, I feel that
more attention should have been drawn to this point. He could have gone one step further by

to convert the Huron according to their traits and virtues, and how both groups found common ground
within both of their different spiritualities. This paper will examine how the Jesuits feelings of
superiority over the Huron people led to conversion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the drought, sickness and death began to plague the Hurons, with the increasing death
toll having no end in sight. This made many start casting doubts on the recent arrival of the Jesuits.
Nevertheless, their shaman s prayers and rituals seemed to be useless against this new plague, and
many became desperate for any alternatives. De Brébeuf blamed the Huron people and their sins,
stating their lust and gluttony, among other things, were causing the drought and sickness. He stated
that in order for their sins to be cleansed, they must participate in novena, a nine day procession, to
show God the their repentance. The novena was a promise to to the Huron; once they had accepted
Christianity, their sins would be washed away, bringing rain and good health for all in Huronia. On the
final day of the procession, rain finally came. This caused many of the Huron, who had not already
done so, to convert to Christianity. This event made the Jesuits the most powerful and covered
shamans within the Huron people. Missionaries spread across the area, bringing Christianity
throughout Huronia and baptizing many in the confederacy. In 1635, the Huron invited the Jesuits to
engage in the Huron Feast of the Dead, which was an important learning opportunity for the Jesuits.
The missionaries wanted to use this event to evaluate how they could incorporate Christianity into the
Huron tradition; the Feast could be admired, participated in, and built upon, to make up Huron
Christianity. A mixture of both the Huron culture and spirituality and European Catholicism, Huron
Christianity was the Jesuits way of making the converting process of the Hurons easier. Instead of
trying to bully their way through with ideas that the Huron people would never completely
comprehend or want to embrace, the Jesuits integrated Huron traditions, like the Feast of the Dead, to
match stories and

Ballet Character Traits
For the past twelve years, I have trained in the beautiful, disciplined, and often grueling art of ballet.
During my years as a student, I learned the technique, musicality, and artistry needed to become a
ballerina, but, more importantly, I discovered the strong character traits that are necessary for success.
Every aspect of my ballet training has provided me with unique, essential qualities. Focus, respect,
and meticulousness were emphasized and learned in every class, cooperation and trust were mastered
during partnering, and fearlessness was acquired after numerous performances. Though all of these
characteristics have shaped me as an individual, I am most proud of the hard work ethic that I have
achieved. At the end of my junior year,

  • 2. John Stuart Mill s Definition Of Quality John Stuart Mill s definition of quality can be broken down distinctively into four separate definitions. When evaluating pleasures, J. S. Mill alleged the quality of particular pleasures is determined by how much pleasure the person obtains from the pleasure, in addition to, how just the pleasure is beneficially to society. Moreover, Mill argued against ...Bentham s purely quantitative view of pleasure. Without denying that quantity is a consideration in the calculation of pleasure, Mill believed that it is not as important as the consideration of quality (MILL S VERSION: QUALITY OVER QUANTITY ). Therefore, the following details Mill explicates quality and quantity, exemplifying each of these ideas. First, quality may be defined as the qualities, properties or powers of something. For example, raindrops have the quality of being small, clear and wet. Meaning, when it rains, the raindrops hold the power to produce, in a humans mind, the idea and/or feeling of being small, clear and wet. This idea of quality simply means the power something has. In a second sense, when the word quality is opposed to quantity , it is a name or label under which we class the properties or qualities that something possesses other than quantity (Vergara 5). The following compares two items that only differ in quantity, but not quality. For example, the quality of two bottles filled with the same type of water has the same quality, however, the quantity of the water differs. Whereas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Treatment For Adult Male Sex Offenders Arianna Heard Althea Gross Marquez McClinton Alabama A M University Social Work Applied Research I Treatment for Adult Male Sex Offenders October 27, 2014 Dr. Chacha Abstract Introduction The reason for this study is to explain the different types of treatment for adult male sex offenders. The reason for conducting this research is the interest in getting these offenders effective treatment. Literature Review History of Sex Offender Treatment Until the mid 1980s the treatment of sex offenders was conducted primarily in civil commitment programs in a few state hospitals, prisons, and outpatient clinics scattered around the country. Sex offenders were often treated using a variety of psychodynamic and client centered techniques. A major shift in the field came in 1983 with the publication of an article that presented for the first time a relapse prevention model designed for sexual offenders (Pithers, Marques, Gibat, Marlatt, 1983). Pithers and Marques adapted the work pioneered by Marlatt for alcoholics. Relapse prevention is essentially a self control model that teaches the individual to identify and recognize a unique pattern of thoughts, feelings, and situations that precede and lead to relapses. Relapse in the case of sex offenders is a re offense. This pattern has a signature quality to it. It is tailored to the cognitive, affective, and situation markers that are unique for each individual. Once the pattern is fully understood, the individual learns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances. My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. My adaption is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of these headings reference specific quotes and translations of the original script. After further insight, it was discovered that the targets, now all dead, were just civilians gathering scrap metal ( Should the United ). Should drones be used for military strikes on terrorism? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When targets are disposed of through means of remote controlled drones, the U.S becomes disconnected with the war itself. Drone Pilot Colonel D. Scott Brenton himself admitted that in conducting drone strikes with just a screen and controls, he feels no connection or emotion for the people he kills ( Should the United ). This should not be so. Through this, the U.S is able to go to any measure and continue any conflict as it pleases with no remorse for the cost of human lives. This further enables the U.S to disregard moral principles, at the cost of as many human lives as the U.S pleases. War should have restrictions, and every life should be bargained and reasoned with. With this disconnect though, the U.S uses as much force as it pleases in conflicts that threaten their interest. This disconnect through drone strikes also allows the U.S not to notice or care for how it is spreading to the general civilian life in the affected regions. According to witnesses and researchers, drone strikes are harming local populations beyond death and physical injury ( Should the United ). Often in the film objects normally thought of as ordinary are magnified to express deeper meaning and show what beauty really exists in the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an instant the moment ends when Lester almost ruins her precious couch. Carolyn returns to being uptight and materialistic and Lester to being angry. He becomes so angry with her because she has let material things be her life. This shows how important love, passion, and happiness in life is, what it is really about, and how hard it is to maintain all in only a few short minutes. The cinematography in the film does a wonderful job conveying the genuine meaning behind the sequence as well. The camera is placed far from the actors at the beginning of the scene and becomes closer and closer as the desire between Lester and Carolyn grows. When Carolyn relapses and becomes upset about the couch almost getting ruined the camera goes out again and the actors are surrounded by all of the material items in the room. In that frame it is clear that the more intimate, close up scene was more tasteful to see than the angry room full of expensive furniture. Through this sequence the viewer should be able to understand the social issue addressed; that today Americans ignore the raw, pure beauty in the world and instead are obsessed with the amount of objects that they can own. Natural beauty is disappearing, while store bought beauty is growing. In time this will destroy true happiness. • 16. The Importance Of Net Neutrality Net neutrality is the idea of internet users should have equal access to internet content without any restrictions. Net neutrality has been around since the early 2000 s and it is a debate between government regulations concerning internet content and Internet providers (ISPs). This debate covers a set of Internet rules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internet providers efforts to reduce access to certain sites or internet services. The FCC is an agency of the U.S government responsible for developing the regulations of internet. This event started in 1934 when the Communications Act placed restrictions on companies providing telegram and telephone services and established the FCC must have the authority to prevent carriers from restricting the flow of information for political, personal or financial reasons. In the 1996, Telecom Act defined Internet service providers as information services rather than telecommunications services. Schools, colleges and universities are using various approaches to inspire ethnic content into the curriculum, including the contributions, additive, transformation, and social action approaches. The traditional goal of school has been to socialize students so they would accept unquestioningly the existing ideologies, institutions, and practices within society and the nation state. I believe that each approach stated by James Banks is important in its own way and do not over power one another. On December 12 when Diego returned to the Archbishop, he opened his tilmĂĄtli or cloak in which the image of the Virgin appeared. In response, the archbishop honored the Virgin s request and built an altar in her honor. Today, The Basilica de Guadalupe in Tepeyac stands in dedication to the Virgin s first appearance and remains the most visited Catholic shrine. NietoGomez explains how the church utilized Guadalupe s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became the model of how to make oppression a religious obligation. This is the heritage of the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for themselves by weaving the Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. To find out the probability of the company running out of the stock of 180 units within a time of next 3 weeks, let s take z as a value that should be checked in the standard deviation table in order to find the probability... Let us first find the value of z , for which we should know the mean demand of the period of 3 weeks: So to do this we can assume that the demand for week one is 65 units, for week two is 50 units and for week three is 45 units. Mean Demand of the period of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum of mean demands of per week that is,60+55+45 = 160 Now, let us determine the standard deviation for the period of 3 weeks, as it is mentioned in question. Hence, variance of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum variance of per week that is, 25+100+225=350 Standard Deviation of 3 weeks is equal to the Square root of the variance of 3 weeks that is, Square root of 350 = 18.71. Reactivity Of Hcl Acids With Cells Lab Report Reactivity of the HOCl acids with cells The reactivity of HOCl has been comprehensively assessed with in a wide range of cellular systems, including yeast (Carmona Gutierrez et al., 2013) and bacteria (Winterbourne and Kettle, 2013; Winterbourne et al., 2006; Chapman et al., 2002), together with many studies focused on specific mammalian cell types and tissues. It is clear from the numerous invitro studies that HOCl is highly reactive and destructive, inducing cell death via both necrotic and programmed apoptotic pathways, depending on the oxidant concentration and cell type under study. HOCl induced cell lysis The a nucleate red blood cell (RBC) has been used extensively as a model system for investigating mechanisms of MPO mediated cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, the continued exposure of macrophages to HOCl has been shown to exacerbate the inflammatory response in a number of disease settings, which is particularly relevant with in the progression of atherosclerosis (Daugherty et al., 1994). It has been shown that exposure of both murine macrophage cell lines and primary cultures of human monocyte derived macrophages (HMDMs) to physiologically relevant concentrations of HOCl results in the loss of cell viability. In early studies employing the murine macrophage cell line P388D1 SchraufstĂ€tter and co workers (SchraufstĂ€tter et al., 1990) demonstrated a dose dependent increase in the extent of trypan blue uptake by the cells that was concurrent with the increased presence of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in cellular supernatants. Both of these methods are indicative of disruption to the cellular membrane and are used extensively as surrogate markers of cell death. In these studies, it was shown that exposure of cells to HOCl concentrations as low as 25 ”M decreased cell viability by approximately 20% compared to controls, with 50 ”M HOCl causing up to 50% cell death, and complete cell lysis observed after exposure to 75 ”M HOCl. Everyone in their life has experienced or gone through a crucible that has had a great impact on how they view something. From my perspective I have experienced a crucible that changed how I viewed the simple things. My crucible was how much my mom did for me and I never noticed how blessed and thankful I am for her. My mom has so much opacity to the little things for me that I don t notice but when she doesn t do the little things I notice why she didn t do it. The little things my mom did for me was she always calls me right after school and asks me how my day at school went or how I felt. I always looked forward to when my mom called me. Another little thing she would do is she ask me if I ever wanted anything for her to buy. I would always crave a donut or iced coffee or just in general food. I never noticed how no matter what weather it was she would always ask me if I wanted anything. I would never noticed when I asked for an iced coffee in the winter she would never complain on how already her hands were freezing and imagine your hands so cold and carrying ice coffee with snow in your face. I never genuinely appreciated how mom never complained on how cold she was, and she does all these kinds of things as in of how much love she has for me. • 39. On Nuclear Disarmament Rhetorical Analysis Essay Our challenge is to reconcile, not after the carnage and the mass murder, but instead of the carnage and the mass murder. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call to save humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does not know if we are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the meantime. The claim made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and thoroughly expressed. Sagan presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, hyperbole, and repetition drawing the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage. Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a species. He says, A house divided against itself cannot stand. Let me vary it a little: A species divided against itself cannot stand. A planet divided against itself cannot stand. This type of rhetorical device moves the listener gradually from a house divided to a planet divided, demonstrating the effect on every living person. When Sagan speaks of the inscription on the Eternal Light Peace Memorial, A World United in the Search for Peace, I feel that more attention should have been drawn to this point. He could have gone one step further by emphasizing the hypocrisy of that statement when nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to endless possibilities when searching for courses to challenge your skills on. Courses generally consist of nine holes or eighteen. It s an extraordinary game that can be played in so many memorable locations worldwide. I had a number of thoughts going into my first round of golf. • 43. Jesuits Conversion Jesuits and their Methods of Conversion The first Catholic missionaries, also know as Jesuits, came to New France in 1634 to spread Christianity and European values. In 1639, the Jesuits established Sainte Marie aux Hurons by the St. Lawrence River, creating a central base for all missionary work. By 1672, there had been over 16,000 baptisms of the native population in New France. Father Jean de BrĂ©beuf wrote about the Huron confederacy extensively. These writings included his thoughts on how to convert the Huron according to their traits and virtues, and how both groups found common ground within both of their different spiritualities. In addition to the drought, sickness and death began to plague the Hurons, with the increasing death toll having no end in sight. This made many start casting doubts on the recent arrival of the Jesuits. Nevertheless, their shaman s prayers and rituals seemed to be useless against this new plague, and many became desperate for any alternatives. De BrĂ©beuf blamed the Huron people and their sins, stating their lust and gluttony, among other things, were causing the drought and sickness. He stated that in order for their sins to be cleansed, they must participate in novena, a nine day procession, to show God the their repentance. The novena was a promise to to the Huron; once they had accepted Christianity, their sins would be washed away, bringing rain and good health for all in Huronia. On the final day of the procession, rain finally came. This caused many of the Huron, who had not already done so, to convert to Christianity. This event made the Jesuits the most powerful and covered shamans within the Huron people. Missionaries spread across the area, bringing Christianity throughout Huronia and baptizing many in the confederacy. In 1635, the Huron invited the Jesuits to engage in the Huron Feast of the Dead, which was an important learning opportunity for the Jesuits. The missionaries wanted to use this event to evaluate how they could incorporate Christianity into the Huron tradition; the Feast could be admired, participated in, and built upon, to make up Huron Christianity. A mixture of both the Huron culture and spirituality and European Catholicism, Huron Christianity was the Jesuits way of making the converting process of the Hurons easier. Instead of trying to bully their way through with ideas that the Huron people would never completely comprehend or want to embrace, the Jesuits integrated Huron traditions, like the Feast of the Dead, to match stories and ...
