Two different theoretical conclusions have been
drawn from this finding. One is that no shift from one hemisphere to the other has occurred
because lateralization of function is not present in early infancy. The other is that hemispheric
differences are present very early in life, but the young brain has the ability to reorganize itself
in the face of damage to specific regions. Recent studies of the abilities of persons with left and
right hemispherectomies suggest that the latter plasticity explanation is more likely to be correct.
Hemispherectomy dates back to 1928 when it was devised as a treatment for malignant

is one of the most recognized and studied pieces of poetry from the 19th century, with the critic
Allen Tate even going on to say that this ode at least tries to say everything that a poet can say
(Vendler). Keats was an educated writer and knew very well what he was talking about and was

They can be described using the properties of wave speed, intensity and loudness, and frequency
and pitch (Giancoli, 2006). The speed of sound varies in both different mediums and at different
temperatures. Sound intensity is the rate at which the sound wave s energy flows through a given
area (Giancoli, 2006). It is dependent upon the amplitude of the wave and the distance from the
sound source (Giancoli, 2006). It is also related to loudness. Loudness is the physical response to
the intensity and is subjective depending on the person listening to the sound (Giancoli, 2006).
Frequency of sound depends on how fast the source of the sound is vibrating in which case the
frequency of the sound produced depends on the length of the tubing of a musical instrument
(Giancoli, 2006). In these cases, longer tubes tend to produce lower frequency sounds (Giancoli,
2006). Pitch is the frequency of the sound as perceived by the listener (Giancoli, 2006).
This experiment did not include exact values, rather, used observations as a source of data
collection and comparison. Therefore, using measurements would be better to compare the exact
changes that occurred as a result of the manipulation of variables. This would require more
expensive and precise tools, but if it was feasible, would improve the reliability of the results.

Katharine Cousins presentation on the MusГ©um National d Histoire Naturelle in Paris (MNHN)
explored the ideas surrounding collecting and collections addressed in the Sharon Macdonald
reading Collecting Practices , focusing particularly on the notion of collections as representations of
a national identity. Katharine began her presentation by defining what constitutes a collection.
Here, she rightly emphasised the important role selection plays in collecting activities, while also
acknowledging that collections are fundamentally the result of personal pursuits by collectors. This
said, the act of collecting is perhaps best differentiated from other types of accumulation activities
(e.g. hoarding), by the potential it offers in terms of order, system and completion.
Next, Katharine provided a brief background to the MNHN, noting the circumstances of its
establishment, the scope of its collection, its various departments and present day mission. Given

The Arch of Titus is an architectural monument and sculpture constructed around c. 79 81 CE. by
Domitian in the Forum Romanum, Rome, notable on the plaza for its huge scale and central
position. The arch includes three outstandingly elaborated reliefs, two on both passages, which
depict the martial victory of Rome under the leading of the Roman emperor Titus, and one on the
vault, which displays Titus carried by an eagle to the heaven. The monumental, geometric arch and
the detailed, naturalistic reliefs guide the viewers not only to approach the arch from a distance, but
also to pass through it, and immerse them in the scene of Rome s military triumph and the glory of
the arch and its subject Titus.
The material, Pentelic marble, suggests the dignity of the subject matter and the permanence of its
presence. It is a type of white marble with a faint hue of yellow that makes this material shine with
golden light under sunlight, associating the architecture with the qualities of loftiness and integrity.
In addition, Pentelic marble has the qualities of persistence and gravitas, and therefore the arch is in
a relatively unimpaired condition except that the panel reliefs were damaged permanently in the

Visiting Phantom Bodies at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (919 Broadway) was one of the
most thrilling experiences I have experienced in the recent past. The exhibition provided me with

treasure especially because I got to learn a lot from the different works of art available at the center.

The Schlieffen Plan and the Two Front War
Alfred von Schlieffen, Chief of the Imperial German General Staff, created The Schlieffen Plan for
war against France and Russia. It was designed to avoid a two front war. Seven eighths of german
troops were sent to surround the strong french defenses by going through Belgium and the
Netherlands while a third were ready at Germany and France s border to attack. After the success
of the attack on France, they planned to send the rest of the troops to Russia. Germany had no plan
for dealing with Russia once the troops got there.
When Helmuth von Moltke took Schlieffen s place, he changed the plan. Instead of invading the
Netherlands, he decided to only invade Belgium.

California from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews
to Israel from Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the
Joad s were captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their
journey, Ma becomes a Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to
keep the family together. She kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma
was dead in her lap. California was the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led
the family there. California brings about another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his
people out of Egypt, he told of a promised land to where he would take the Israelites, and that
land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other migrants, California was the promised land they

New Zealand is one of the countries in the world that has unwritten consititution and it is vital
because it is the base of a government on how to govern a country based on it. Having a written
constitution in New Zealand will give New Zealanders more access about certain documents on the
consitution itself. On the other hand, if New Zealandcontinuously having an unwritten constitution,
the citizen may not have knowledge on it due to limited access on it. This essay will clarify on
constitution and what is a written constitution. This essay also covers the need to include the
Constitution Act 1986, the Public Finance Act 1989 and the Arms Act 1983 and removing the
Public Sector Act 1988 from it.
Constitution is the basic principles and laws of a nation, state or social groups that determine the

Reflection About The TazпїЅ Prayer
At the TaizГ© prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about
10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person
placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their
burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayeraround the cross continued, but this time the cross
statue was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed
their heads on it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether
final prayer followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a
group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to
the meditative music.
The TaizГ© prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others
together. This was my first time in a TaizГ© prayer, I have never heard about it before this class.
The prayer is centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings,
people stand up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the
statue. You are not alone, you spend the hour with people of different churches or religious beliefs

work for everything they have today. Women had to fight for the right to vote as well as the right

women, as well as other minorities, face when it comes to equal pay. For every dollar earned by
a man, a woman only makes about seventy five cents. This is not in any way a fair. Women work
the same job for the same amount of time as men, but they earn less. This is what sexismlooks like
and there are laws against it, but these laws are not being enforced or taken seriously. The laws

Despite the common assertion that all math is inherently difficult, statistics is rooted in simple
mathematical concepts. Descriptive statistics, as depicted by author Charles Wheelan in Naked
Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data, is a way to summarize raw data in order to make
immense data sets more manageable and understandable (2013). As Wheelan points out, everything
from presidential elections to baseball games can be summarized using statistics(2013). One of the
most prevalent uses of statistical analysis is to summarize data in order to reflect the health of the
U.S. economy, specifically through gross domestic product (GDP). Wheelan touches on the subject
of how statistics can be used in conjunction with economics; however, there is much more he does
not mention. The health of the U.S. economy is imperative to every American. It dictates whether
it is a good time to splurge on a pricey vacation, invest in a new company, or save for the future.
The only way to truly understand the current status of the U.S. economy is by being able to
interpret statistical analyses accurately, which may be trickier than it appears. Just like any other
topic, it starts with the basics (mean, median, etc.), but Wheelan soon makes it apparent that things
become a bit more complicated when one looks past the fundamentals of statistics (2013).

When someone says superhero, it is automatically assumed that one is talking about someone
who saves others using extraordinary powers or someone who is there to protect and make
others feel safe. For decades, superheroes have been around fighting crime and saving civilians
from the villains that reign. These superheroes create a light and give the viewer some kind of
hope. Although a superhero is seen as someone who is god like, there is one hero who defies this
stereotype. His name: Batman. Batman has been around for nearly seventy five years and has
evolved into a a very controversial character. Some people may see Batman as a dark figure who
is not a hero, but a nuisance, while others may see him as something greater than a superhero. In
Christopher Nolan s, The Dark Knight, released in 2008, Batman is a character who is seen in a
different way than previous iterations. Instead of just a crime fighting hero, Batman is presented

Polyphemus Is An Improper Host Of Odysseus
The Odyssey written by Homer is a classic tale of Odysseus s lengthy journey home to Ithaca. The
story includes many positive and negative examples of proper behavior of a host to his guest. A
proper host would have three main qualities. These qualities are being respectful to their guest,
offering them a place to stay, and providing them with food. Odysseus, being the guest, has
encountered many hosts on his journey with very different personalities.
Polyphemus is a more negative and improper host with a bad quality of eating Odysseus s crew.
When Odysseus is first greeted by Polyphemus on a island home to cyclopes, two men of
Odysseus s crew are eaten and Odysseus and the rest are trapped with Polyphemus. The men
couldn t leave and became food for the cyclops. Eventually, they devised a plan to escape and
leave the island. Seeking revenge, Polyphemus asked his father, Poseidon, to make sure that
Odysseus never returns home. Polyphemus is not a very polite host eating and attacking his guests.

Millions of people every day do not know when they are going to eat their next meal. This brings
upon great stress to households as finding their next meal becomes the priority. The United States
defines this shortage of food in households as food insecurity. The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) has defined food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active,
healthy life (Coleman Jensen, Rabbitt, Gregory, Singh, 2017). Households that are food insecure
will often skip meals, eat low nutritious dense food, and face high stress levels of making food
last until they are able to buy more food for their home. Food insecurity is a serious issue that is
consistently overlooked and it needs more attention because it has a negative impact on the families.
Literature Review Food insecurity affects every community in the United States. About 12.3% of
U.S. households were considered food insecure in 2016 (United States Department of Agriculture
2017). This number has not changed much from the 12.7% it was in 2015. Food insecurity can
affect anyone, but certain groups are more vulnerable to this issue. For instance, low income
households, the elderly, children, and immigrants are at highest risk to be food insecure. In
particular, it is households with children that are most affected by food insecurity. The rate for these
households was higher than the national average at 16.5% for the year 2016 (United States
