Descriptive Essay On Childhood
PBNJ Stuffed with Potato Chips and Cheese Doodles Sandwich plus an Enormous Sneeze
characterized my Fourth Grade School Year. This trio of food, event, along with place marked my
entire life. Many of us carry secrets from childhood. These memories color the world, but
moreover, brand our character as well as behavior. In my opinion, these imprinting events impact
the emotional, including psychological, development of a child, likewise adult. Life altering
imprinting events spare only but a few. I am among the countless who relive, for better or worse, a
firmly etched event from adolescence.

The intrusion erupted from the third floor. It was immediately unknown to our class if the
troublemaker was a student, teacher, or a nun. The detonation released squeals of laughter. In short,
this sneeze entirely disrupted our academic progress, at least for a bit. Gone were the doldrums of
a hushed Fourth Grade Classroom. In contrast to the euphoria, this sneeze of sneezes awakened in
me a new and better understanding. That is, the inability to master, much less control our physical
self.
Ah Choo
Unlike a simple sneeze, this was a two part explosive nasal oral unrepressed force. Depriving the
instigator, or better, its victim, of his anonymity, dignity, including self composure. A barreling echo
of sound waves hurtling through the vaunted vestibule of an unassuming school building. Then
crashing into my ear, with an unmistakable booming rhapsody. A refrain of Hail Mary, Jesus
Christ! and Oh, God! Help Me! from a solitary, beleaguered, then surrendering soul. I confess a
certain religiosity, as I was attending Roman Catholic Elementary School. Servicing us was a brood
of Irish Italian nuns together with laypersons. All devoutly fulfilling the task of educating their
passel of pupils.

Marxism In Ponies
A famous quote of Karl Marx says: The Rich will do anything for the poor, but get off their backs.
This saying indicates the power imbalance between the rich and the poor, as the rich have the
freedom to do whatever they want to the poor, while the poor can do nothing about it. This is an
example of Marxismbecause there are power struggles between the rich and the poor.. Marxism is a
well known theory, originating from the mid 19th century by Karl Marx, and it is used to reveal
historical content, power imbalances, and political beliefs. In other words. in writing, authors can
use these ideas from Marxism to develop a text that will help readers understand power struggles,
political views, and the reasons behind the conflicts in the text.... Show more content on

The text describes how the main character has to do things against her will in order to fit in with
the other girls, since she s trying to become a part of their group. The character Barbara does not
want to cut off her pony s voice as she, throws her arms around Sunny s neck, protecting it.
(Johnson 3). But she ends up ready to do so. I won t! Barbara tells them all, but even as she
cries... she knows she will. (Johnson 3). Barbara feels as if she has to conform to whatever
everyone else is doing. This shows that she lacks power and TheOtherGirls are in control with
all the power. This explains that Barbara is not a person who trusts themselves to do what is
right. This shows that she lacks power. Nevertheless, TheOtherGirls make everyone follow
them, as they have a lot of power. In the end, TheOtherGirls still reject Barbara as they say, You
re not one of us. (Johnson 4). After all the trouble Barbara took to fit in with TheOtherGirls, they
still deny her. TheOtherGirls can do whatever they want to Barbara, as she is susceptible enough
to listen to them, This shows that The OtherGirls are very powerful. They took control over
Barbara, and ruined her life, as they misled her with fake lies, and killed her pony in the process.
The story Ponies includes Marxism when it describes the power imbalance between Barbara and
TheOtherGirls, and how they have much more power than

The Purpose of Advertising Essay
The Purpose of Advertising
The purpose of advertising is to familiarise the public with a certain brand or product. Companies
spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so that when the public are searching for a product
or service a certain brand is recognised and, as a result, their product or service is chosen.
Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by completing extensive
market and physcological research. Members of the public from a company s target group or
audience are chosen to express their views about the advertisment before it is published or aired.
Media can include television, cinema and radio. This is the communications aspect of ... Show more

This is illustrated in the first advertisment, for Chanel No.5 perfume.
The classic, sophisticated design immediately sets the tone for the advert and for the type of
audience it has been aimed at.
Chanel is an icon of the 21st century and its image needs to be preserved by attracting new
customers.
The modern, yet timeless layout of the promotion emphasises on this, but the advert is traditional
enough to appeal to older audiences. This shows that although Chanel wish to attract a newer
audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers loyal to the marque, hence the non
controversial advertisment.
The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel wish to preserve
their image. However, to appeal to successive generations the visual treatment has recieved subtle
changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern looking colour scheme.
The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast between the
two main colours adds to the classic meets modern feel that Chanel were aiming for.
Chanel is a name dating back to the 1930 s. Over the years, it has been associated with the world of
fashion, style and elegent living throughout the world.
Chanel do a fantastic job of creating

Arab American Culture
Many countries in the 21st Century became multicultural with the increase in global movement.
The purpose of this study is to explore perceptions, experiences, and patterns of health care
practices among Arab Americans and then to discover perceptions and experiences of health care
providers associated to culturally competent care. I selected this cultural as we are caring lot of
patients from this background especially in the pediatric oncology unit where I am working at MD
Anderson. They are the main income source for my hospital as they pay out of pocket. The goal of
the study is to find answers that would provide the basis for implementing system wide changes to

Transcultural nursing approach is to identify patient s cultural needs, respect for cultural beliefs and
practices, equal access to treatment and communication needs. From this article its clear that
language barrier affected all aspects of care to this group. It s crucial to learn about the background
of a particular culture to deliver culturally sensitive care. The first step in overcoming cultural
diversity is the awareness of stereotypes and prejudice s and the next step is learning how other
people communicate. The rapport between patient and health care team is often strained by mutual
cultural misunderstanding as well as communicative and linguistic hardship. What could be
accepted to some cultures may be odd to others.
The key points illustrated in the Journal of Transcultural Nursing, are the Faith of Islam and
Health, the Value of Health in Islam, health Promotion Practices in Islam which includes general
hygiene, diet, and exercise. Cultural factors can have a deep impact on health which ascends from
religious beliefs and practices. They believe that God is the creator of human beings and he has

Hygroscopic Ionic Compounds Lab
Purpose of the Experiment Techniques: The purpose of this experiment is to see how hygroscopic
ionic compounds determine their water of hydration. Hygroscopic compounds are compounds that
have the tendency to absorb water vapor from the air. The technique used in this experiment is to
find out the difference of the mass of the hygroscopic ionic compound before and after heating the
compounds. The instruments used in this experiment is an analytical balance to ensure precision.
In order to use this balance, all the surrounding doors has to be closed. Then, check to see if the

Combination reactions
A1.Work under the hood! With a pair of tongs, hold a strip of magnesium in a bunsen burner
flame. Do not look directly at the flame. Save the ash in a small beaker for the next procedure. If
magnesium is substance A in the general equation, what is B ?
A2. Add a dropperful of distilled water and a drop of phenolphthalein. The phenolphthalein is only
an indicator for the presence of hydroxide ion and does not enter into the equation. Decomposition

B1. Work under the hood! Weigh out exactly 0.1 g of ammonium dichromate and add to a test tube.
Clamp and warm gently with a Bunsen burner. Two of the products of this reaction are
chromium(III)oxide and nitrogen gas. Watch for evidence of the third product.
B2.Place a few crystals of copper(II)sulfate pentahydrate in a test tube. Clamp the tube and heat in

Interview With Other Culture
I have a close family friend who moved here from the Philippines when she was twenty six. We
have lived next door to her and her family for over ten years and I never once took the time to
learn about her life before she moved to America. With this being said, before this interview, I had
no knowledge of the Philippine culture. Before this encounter I had no knowledge of the
proclamation of Martial Law placed over the Philippines. Estrellita, the woman I interviewed and
spent time with, explained how she was in her last year of nursing school when the President
enacted this law. She claimed that those were very hard times for the country, but she had to remain
strong and complete school. Once completing school she would be free to seek out an adventure in
another country. Some customs never change, and that is the case for one of the strongest held
customs of the Philippine culture. When... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

From this cross cultural experience, I have gained a sense of ease when it comes to interacting
with different cultures. I have learned to be patient and listen well when speaking to a person who
has a thick accent.
Allow me to finish with a quotation from Nelson Mandela: No one is born hating another person
because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if
they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart

It Aint Easy Being Bisexual On TV By Amy Zimmerman
A Rhetorical Analysis of It Ain t Easy Being Bisexual on TV The representation of the LGBT
community in the film industry has long been a topic of much debate. In her article, It Ain t Easy
Being Bisexual on TV, Amy Zimmerman addresses this topic with specific interest on bisexual
representation. By appealing to the logic of her audience, using an informal tone, and referring to
relatable content, Zimmerman constructs an argument which persuades readers of The Daily Beast
that the film industry is unfairly and inaccurately representing bisexuals. However, her argument
holds little influence over those who are not movie fans or The Daily Beast readers. Zimmerman
begins developing her persuasive argument at the beginning of her article... Show more content on

To support this opinion, Zimmerman immediately clarifies why she believes this, stating that
Martell is presented by Game of Thrones as someone with an insatiable appetite (Zimmerman
565) instead of a dissimilar sexuality. This has the result of devaluing his bisexuality and
reframing it as masculine libertine (Zimmerman 565). Unfortunately, statistics and logic are
rarely enough to persuade an audience about a topic, especially if that topic is emotional.
Zimmerman handles this by using rhetorical examples which appeal to the audience s emotions
to her advantage. Specifically, she includes characters, titles, and quotes from movies. This
works because many members of Zimmerman s audience are movie enthusiasts, which is
reasonable to conclude since The Daily Beast delivers award winning original reporting and
sharp opinion in the arena of . . . pop culture ( About Us ). For instance, consider the statement
that, when even a show like Glee . . . makes fun of the myth of bisexuality, it s clear that bisexual
representation . . . is still stuck in the dark ages (Zimmerman 565). By using Glee as an example in
this quote, Zimmerman creates a feeling of relatability with the Glee fan base while also showing
them how a movie they love is unfairly representing bisexuals. This feeling of relatability makes the
audience more receptive to Zimmerman s argument. In addition to using rhetorical examples,
Zimmerman also utilizes an informal tone to make herself more

Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of
personal identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin
brother is dead following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her
maiden clothes with the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola
did not mime her twinbrother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola
makes new acquaintances as Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I
play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a
man, she can hint at her biological identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how
she wants others to view her. When Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5.
204), Viola responds What I am, and what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08).
Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity and that she is not what her appearance portrays
her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the other characters do not recognize her
chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of forming one s personal identity.
Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in the play have already
shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is starting to
adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from her
appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves
to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian
survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other
characters confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke
addresses the concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons
a natural perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Before seeing the two twinstogether, the
characters in the play saw Viola and Sebastian as one person, Cesario. They looked alike in
appearance and could pass

Visual Effect On Visual Effects
Visual effects started out as visual experimental techniques in the very early stages of film starting
with filmmakers like George mielies. As technology has progressed so have the ability of visual
effects in film. Visual effect techniques has influenced and help innovate film in many different
ways in the 21st century.
Firstly, one should differentiate between special effects and visual effects. Special effects are
generally carried out on set during production whilst and visual effects are usually done in post
production, but this does not mean that special effects is not involved in the post proudction
process and the visual effects are not involved in on set during production (http://filmescape.com

Special effects can be seen in terms of two categories: optical and mechanical effects. Optical
effects have to do with the camera and the manipulation of the camera as well as the lighting to
make the scene look different (http://filmescape.com/whats the difference between special effects
visual effects). This process could involving changing the cameras lenses, the type of lighting used
in the scene or how the camera moves to create a specific look to the shot (http://filmescape.com

Mechanical effects are usually done during live action shooting. This usually means making things

I think that in order to be a successful athletic director, one needs to keep the functional areas of
sport management in mind. These four areas include: planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating
(Masteralexis, Barr, Hums, 2015). The first aspect of planning is something that athletic directors
need to be very good at doing. An athletic director needs to have both short and long term goals. If
I were to become an athletic director, I would want to make sure all of the student athletes received
the proper tools to succeed both on and off the court. I would make sure each student athlete,
scholarship and non scholarship, had a tutor available to them at all times. I know that the
University of Florida allows each athlete to have a tutor, however, it is optional. The reason that
it is optional is because it is something that is enforced by the coaches. Therefore, I would make it
a university athletic department policy that all coaches must force their student athletes to use a
tutor. I would want to make sure each athlete used their tutor to their advantage so they could be
aware of what was going on in the classroom. This would also allow students to not be stressed
about their studies, and that way they have a proper balance between their sport and education. It
is a huge goal of the NCAA for their students to have a proper balance in life, therefore I think
through this plan I could implement that balance. In order to make this possible

Presidential Research Paper
President Harry S. Truman wasn t only just a president, he was a US army soldier, a democratic
senator, presiding judge, and a vice president. Before his presidency, he fought in World War 1.
Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the
army and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to
becoming president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got
elected presiding judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four
year terms through 1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by
1935. On August 31, 1944 Truman commences his vice presidential campaign from where he was
born Lamar, Missouri. Shortly afterwards, Truman was elected vice president on November 7 of
the same year.
Following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in as thirty third president
of the United States of America on April 12, 1945. A day after Germany surrendered to the Allies,
Truman called for the end of the war in Europe; this is known as V E Day, aka Victory in Europe

Edwin Arlington Robinson’s The Mill Essay
Edwin Arlington Robinson s The Mill
Lucius Beebe critically analyzes Edwin Arlington Robinson s, The Mill best. Beebe s analysis is
from an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not
be. She notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of
the modern world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme.
Lucius Beebe expresses that a minor overflow of significant details has been exposed over Edwin
Arlington Robinson s The Mill, much of it concerned with whether the miller s wife did indeed
drown herself after the miller had hanged himself. Another, even more provocative question has
never been asked: did the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colon after said implies an appositive clause equal in value to what went before, here the
thoughts of the miller s wife as she waited by the dead fire. There are no millers anymore, / Was
all that she had heard him say closes the parenthesis of past perfect tense that the first line opens,
containing within it the miller s actual words, which Beebe and the reader can take to be the
objective fulcrum upon which the rest of this intensely subjective poem balances.
It is even clearer that the past perfect is this stanza s essential condition of being when we come
to the second past perfect verb, had lingered, found in a clause subordinate to the one before.
Thus, Lucius Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier,
with one clause hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of
past perfect verbs giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect
in the second stanza, which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which
implies that the fear has a continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia
militates against supposing change, and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change
than exists. This hypothesis is reinforced by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a
pair of past conditional clauses. What he had meant, as direct object, parallels What else

Thalidomide Research Paper
Thalidomide was introduced by the method of Russian roulette. Practically nothing was known
about the drug at the time of its marketing. A seemingly harmless drug with a dangerous secret,
that was overlooked due to the corporate greed of GrГјnenthal, the company that synthesized
thalidomide. A short time after its release, the drug became a sudden hit in countries across the
world. It was known as the wonder drug due to the fact that scientists could not get a test rat to
overdose. The illusion that thalidomide was safe, went to the point that manufacturers were
claiming that even pregnant women could take the drug for morning sickness. Alas nearly 12,000
infants would be maimed at birth with a once rare disease known as Phocomelia, meaning seal
limbs , and only 5,000 would survive past childhood (Brynner and Stephens 9). Richardson Merrell
attempted to submit an application to the FDA to approve the drug Thalidomide; but Dr. Frances

Erving Goffman
There are two different concepts of the self. One is from theorist George Mead and the other is
from Erving Goffman. There are similarities and differences between the two concepts. Each
theorist views the function of the self in society. First off, George Mead s self is defined as the
ability to take oneself as an object (Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 60).While Erving Goffman s self
is defined as a sense of who one is that is a dramatic effect emerging from the immediate
dramaturgical scene being presented (Ritzer and Stepnisky, 2013, p. 144). This is the first
difference between the two. The theorists have different ways of defining self. In Mead s self, he

Seven Years War Dbq
Before Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence to declare the America freedom
from Great Britain, the American colonists had been under the tyranny of King George III and
Parliament which brought them into poverty and a long period of warfare with other Empire.
However, the result of the Seven Years War, which took place between 1754 and 1765, sparked the
beginning of the American Revolutionto fight against Great Britain and to gain freedom from its
long period of tyranny. Specifically, when the battle of the Seven Years War between Britain and

Specifically, the Seven Years War left both Britain and France burdened with economic debts. Since
the debts was estimated by the European financial system that centered in Netherland, British s
neutrality with other European neighbors aroused tensions. In addition, the elimination of France
from Canada also created new conflict between French citizens and Americans, who now on
British s side. Therefore, as a great empire, Britain became suspicious of all its European neighbors.
This fear was justified after France, which recently got eliminated from Canada, determined on
humbling Britain to satisfy its pride and to restore its economy in Europe. Thus, this triggered
Britain to start economic competition with France in Europe. Since there were limited resources,
Britain chose to tax the colonists to tighten its administration in North America. The Parliament said
that, The cost of administering the North American colonies alone rose to $135,000 a year in 1763
five times what it had cost in 1756 . With the debt of the Seven Year War and many others from

How Did Japanese Occupation from 1941 1945 affect the History of HK
Introduction
The Japanese occupation of Hong Kong commenced on December 25, 1941 after Sir Mark
Young, the Governor of Hong Kong by then, had surrendered the land of Hong Kong to Japan.
This surrender took place after 18 days of aggressive battle between Canadian and British defenders
and the overwhelming Japanese Imperial militaries. Eventually, the occupation continued for 3
years and 8 months. This paper seeks to analyze the implications of the Japanese occupation to the
people of Hong Kong and find how the British Government had reformed the political system,
recovered the economy, and improved the people s living condition after 1945.

After they had dispossessed the merchants and banks of the properties, Japanese authorities
substituted domestic dollars for Japanese army yen; thus, Hong Kong currency was banned. The
rate of exchange was settled at two Hong Kong dollars to one Japanese military yen. After a while,
in July 1942, the yen was re prized at 4 Hong Kong dollars to 1 Japanese yen, which implied that
native persons can exchange a smaller amount of military currency than before. The Japanese
administration traded the Hong Kong dollar to facilitate the funding of their wartime economy,
whereas the residents of Hong Kong became poor due to the enforced exchanges. Later in June
1943, yen was the only lawful tender for formal undertakings. The prices of goods and services
for selling had to be in yen. Yen s progressive depreciation caused a serious price rises and

Think again. Poorland s cost of producing wine, although higher than Richland s in terms of
hours of labor, is lower in terms of bread. For every bottle produced, Poorland gives up half of a
loaf, while Richland has to give up three loaves to make a bottle of wine. Therefore, Poorland has a
comparative advantage in producing wine. Similarly, for every loaf of bread it produces, Poorland
gives up two bottles of wine, but Richland gives up only a third of a bottle. Therefore, Richland has
a comparative advantage in producing bread.
If they exchange wine and bread one for one, Poorland can specialize in producing wine and
trading some of it to Richland, and Richland can specialize in producing bread. Both Richland
and Poorland will be better off than if they had not traded. By shifting, say, ten hours of labor out
of producing bread, Poorland gives up the one loaf that this labor could have produced. But the
reallocated labor produces two bottles of wine, which will trade for two loaves of bread. Result:
trade nets Poorland one additional loaf of bread. Nor does Poorland s gain come at Richland s
expense. Richland gains also, or else it would not trade. By shifting three hours out of producing
wine, Richland cuts wine production by one bottle but increases bread production by three loaves.
It trades two of these loaves for Poorland s two bottles of wine. Richland has

Joan Didion Goodbye To All That Summary
True happiness comes when one feels proud and accomplished. In the essay Goodbye to All That ,
Joan Didion arrives in New York. Without a purpose in life her six month stay quickly turns into an
eight year stay. Her contentment with being in New York rather than living in it results in a bout of
depression and will hinder her attempts to find true happinessin Los Angeles. When the author
arrives in New York, she is entranced by the city. The author s love of New York is so deep that
she cannot establish the years during which many of her early memories took place. Instead of
being distinct, the memories are a mass jumble of imagery that captures her favourite aspects of the
city. One night, Didion was running late to meet someone. Despite her rush, she stopped at

People in New York can no longer interest her; the characters have become the same. Similarly,
Didion now avoids certain parts of New York because they offer a glimpse of what could have
been. For instance, Madison Avenue, the centre of American advertising, contains too many
women walking Yorkshire terriers, reminding Didion of how she has made little progress in her
career since arriving at New York. Irritated and disappointed with herself, she begins to cut
herself off from her friends: [She] hurt the people [she] cared about, and insulted those [she] did
not. Didion initially feels better about herself after marrying, but she becomes so depressed that
she is unable to leave her apartment. Within a few months, she and her husband move to Los
Angeles to try for a fresh start. For Didion, however, the move itself will fail to bring her true
happiness. Her depression resulted from herself, not the environment. Unless Didion can once
again find her sense of self and recreate the structured, goal driven lifestyle that she needs to
survive, Los Angeles will be no different from New

A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change
A revolution is a dramatic and wide reaching change in the way something works or is organized
or in people s ideas about it. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval
Noah Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a
scientific revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life
would advance with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial
intelligence(AI) will lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three
revolutionscould result in the start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know.
In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities
in the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is
cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural,
cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as
well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence.
Bostrom proves this when he states, Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence
over the course of history and prehistory. The gains come from many sources, including innovations
in communications technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of
language itself... (Kindle Locations 1443 1446).

Analysis Of Alfred Schutz s The Well Informed Citizen
In the year of a presidential election the media is flooded with an unhealthy amount of news about
almost every facet of the candidate s life. This information is presented in different lights to hungry
audiences, all of those who wish to either see the best or worst of the potential President. Each
individual member of this audience belongs to a different mindset and has their own background
knowledge associated with the news they are consuming. Although people read the news with
different intent and expected gain of knowledge, they all get the same amount of information.
The best way to begin to explain the audience s expectance of the news is to look at the ideas
presented in Alfred Schutz s, The Well Informed Citizen . The man on the street is the general
population who takes in information to stay relevant and maintain a stock of little insights to share
with colleagues. They tend to only read the news article s lead, that first small paragraph that
contains all the important information, they take that information and add it to their conversation
starter list without considering its validity. Alfred Schutz s idea is that, This knowledge in all its
vagueness is still sufficiently precise for the practical purpose at hand. (122). This is not to demean
the man on the street for his lack of comprehensive information, but to point out how one reads into
the newspaper and utilizes that information. The other end of this spectrum is the expert , for this
essay that

Modulating Gene Expression with Multiple Intermediate Steps
Gene expression can be modulated by multiple intermediate steps, including transcription, post
transcriptional modifications, RNA splicing, translation, and post translational modifications;
transcription being the first step and a key mechanism for regulating gene expression.
Transcriptional control is mediated through promoters and regulatory elements, which are all
essential for spatiotemporally correct gene expression. Genome organization has been undoubtedly
linked with regulation of geneexpression through global analyses of mammalian genomes. Previous
hypotheses suggested that genome is arranged as independently regulated chromosomal domains
flanked by boundary elements (i.e. insulators). This might be true in compact genomes of
organisms such as yeasts (e.g. S. cerevisiae 12.1 Mb), where an uninterrupted genomic segment (i.e.
regulatory expression unit) is formed comprising of a particular gene and its regulatory elements.
Nevertheless, in more complex genomes such as those of humans (H. sapiens 3.2 Gb) and mouse
(M. musculus 2.7 Gb) the situation is substantially more complex, where genes and their regulatory
elements can be dispersed over many hundreds of kilobases. These observations concur with current
hypotheses, where cis regulatory elements including Locus Control Regions (LCRs), enhancers,
silencers, and insulators, may be dispersed over tens to thousands of kilobases. Furthermore, cis
regulatory elements of one gene are commonly embedded within a neighbour

Analysis Of Lose Your Mother
Often the most important trait a person can posses is to be aware of their surroundings. If
someone is aware of their surroundings on a physical, mental and emotional level, they have the
power to fully immerse themselves in their experience, without hesitation or limitation. In
Saidiya Hartman s memoir Lose Your Mother, the reader is presented with an orator who lacks
complete awareness of their surroundings, which later translates to a lack of self awareness,
while in both Jamaica Kincaid s and Caryl Phillips respective memoirs the reader is presented
with authors who are fully aware of their surroundings and thus self aware as well. Immediately
the reader is made aware that Hartman is physically aware of her surroundings in Ghana, I chose
Ghana because it possessed more dungeons, prisons and slave pens than any other country in West
Africa.. (Hartman 7). Hartman is physically aware of her purpose in Ghana: she is here because it
contains the most physical remnants of the slave trade than most other countries in West Africa.
Hartman know where she will travel while in Ghana, Elmina, Salaga, Gwolu, and she knows she
will find the physical remnants of the slave trade in these places: slave forts, markets, roads and
castles. Hartman finds these physical remains of slaveryin Elmina, the castle that once held slaves
before they entered the middle passage, Salaga, the largest slave market, and Gwolu, the wall that
was used to keep slave traders away. Both Kincaid in her memoir A Small Place and Phillips in his
memoir The Atlantic Sound are similar to Hartman in this way, as both possess intense awareness
of their physical surroundings. Kincaids memoir, although dealing with Antigua and not Ghana,
contains awareness from the perspective of a native, Antigua is beautiful. Antigua is too beautiful.
Sometimes the beauty of it seems unreal (Kincaid 76). Kincaid additionally addresses the physical
remnants of slavery in Antigua, like Hartman, In the Antigua that I knew we lived on a street
named after a maritime criminal Horatio Nelson...In the middle of High Street was the Barclays

Symbolism In The Starry Night
This artwork, the Starry Night, was drawn by a well known painter called Vincent van
Gogh in 1989. The medium of this artwork is oil in canvas. This is an expressive painting
combined with van Gogh s memories and imagination. The blue and yellow colors in the
sky possess the majority of the painting that makes people feel miserable and a glimpse of
hope in the dark at first sight .
In this painting, the lines are short which induces a vivid style. Normal people mostly

It produces a mixture of two colors when they mix together by this technique that makes
the scene more harmonious. When the painting is exposed under the light, the viewer can
see the paint sticking out from the canvas in globs. In the Starry Night, the stars are
blazing and the wriggling branches of the cypress vibrate with the rhythms of nature s
divinity.
From my point of view, i like the Starry Night because this canvas can express the
feeling of van Gogh obviously. The major color of the whole painting is blue and black,
which implies that van Gogh was in a bad emotional state. The whirling clouds also imply
that he was confusing or struggling for something. On the other hand, the painting is full
of his imagination. For example, in the genuine world, the cloud is not curved and the
tree s shape is not similar to the fire. The tree is not also proportion to the normal one.
The village is mysterious and is painted with dark colors but the brightly lit windows
create a sense of comfort. The village is peaceful in comparison to the dramatic night sky
and the silence of the night can almost be felt in Starry Night. By watching this portrait,

The Physical Dimension Of Wellness
Where I personally am at in the physical dimension is on the lower end for flexibility and
cardiorespiratory, but around average for the muscular strength and endurance. I am a bit
overweight and have been for the most recent years of my life due to lack of motivation to work to
and keep off the weight. As of late, my dietary habits have been atrocious, but I hope to change that.
One great thing about my physical dimensionof wellness though is my great immune system.
Getting sick is rare for me and only really happens once or twice a year. I do try to take care of
myself nicely as I stay away from smoking, drinking, and drugs. I am lucky to not live with any
smokers so being exposed to tobacco smoke is off the table and I do not live near any polluted
areas. I visit the dentist every 6 months and did not have any cavities the last time I had a check
up. One bad side of my physical dimension is the shakiness in my hands. Small finger work such
as writing, typing, or even just holding an item can become a hassle if I get nervous or
anxious(which is quite often). I ve gone to the doctors about it and learned that it s know as
Essential Tremors and will get progressively worse. I am fortunate though that it is not as severe
as others have it, and, plus, it makes me even a little more unique as a person. My situation in the
intellectual dimension is better as I enjoy my mind. I love to read articles online and have become

Happiness In Silas Marner
Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections,
and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book,
Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. He first gained
the prized emotion in Lantern Yard through religion, but when he loses that through tragedy, he
obsessively tries to obtain enough gold to fill the void. However, when Eppie comes into his life,
Silas soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happinessto him.
In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When
described as a brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent
faith (Eliot 6). The particular choice of adjectives used to describe his faith in the Lord supports
in full how content Marner is in this life when he is involved in his religion. Use of the word
ardent , meaning enthusiastic and passionate, to describe his faith are how those experiencing
utter content are portrayed as. Another adjective used to create expression is exemplary ,
meaning serving as a perfect model. This proves the claim of Silas happiness because nobody
would want to be like a man who is isolated and sorrowful. So, it is by passionate faith that Marner
realizes happiness.
When tragedy strikes, Marner is stripped of his faith and community. He resorts to greed in a
desperate attempt to fill the void

A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams in 1947. The play is set during
this same time period, the 1940s, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The story follows Blanche DuBois,
a woman who goes to live with her sister, Stella, and Stella s husband, Stanley. The play mainly
follows the tense relationship between Blanche and Stanley; from the beginning, they do not get
along. For example, at the beginning of the play, Blanche announces to Stella that their childhood
home, Belle Reve, was lost. Stanley believes that she is lying; he believes that she sold the
property and is hiding money from him and Stella. Also, Blanche believes that Stanley is not right
for Stella; she believes that Stanley is of a lower class than Stella, as their family grew up wealthy.

teaching job after she had an affair with a student. He also finds out that she used to be a
prostitute at the Flamingo hotel before she came to live with Stella and him. He tells all of this to
Mitch, one of his poker friends that Blanche starts dating. Because of this, Mitch stops dating her.
Ultimately, Stanley rapes Blanche while Stella is in labor at the hospital; she is drunk and he takes
advantage of her. She tries to tell Stella about this, but believes Stanley over her sister. At the end

Should We Let Astrology Affect Our Thinking Or Perception...
Should we let astrology affect our thinking or perception towards life?
In today s society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain
social groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular
magazines. However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider
that astrology is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it
is truly a pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of
oneself is the consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems
such as marriage and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological
effects (Bennett, 1998). Besides, astrology is considered as an ancestor of modern science which is
supported by two aspects of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the
opinion that astrology can not be trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless,
according to Fitts Fitzgerald (1977), the fate of one person is determined at some level which is
inevitable and inescapable. Moreover, Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations
are supposed to determine the characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even
for twins. At last but not least, some experts claim that people do not necessarily understand
themselves and others through astrology. That is why we

Who Is Christopher Marlovian Authorship
The Marlovian Authorship Question So much has been said about Shakespeare, and his story so
mythic in its sweep, that it is difficult to understand the amount of mystery surrounding his life. For
the genius of Stratford on Avon, whose works are quoted only less frequently than the bible and
whose vocabulary is one of the largest in history, to have so little of his life documented leaves even
his most devoted disciples skeptical of his authorship. In fact as early as the eighteenth century
scholars and students alike have hypothesized that another poet and playwright may have been the
true author of Shakespeare s work. Among the candidates, Shakespeare s contemporary, Christopher
Marlowe, has attracted much attention since William Gleason Zeigler... Show more content on

When Marlowe was attempting to get his Master of Arts degree at Cambridge, the university
was unsure of giving him his award until the Privy Council commended him on his faithful
dealing with the queen. This has led many to believe that at some time Marlowe may have
worked as a government spy. For this reason and possibly because of his atheistic disposition,
Marlowe had proper motivation to fake his death. This theory has, in the minds of some, come
to explain why Shakespeare s works were not only similar to Marlowe s, but also started shortly
after his death. The theory also supplements the conspiracy where linguistic analysis fails. It
explains the contrast in theme and tone of Shakespeare s work because of Marlowe s exile after
his faked death that is apparent in his sonnets. Much like parts of Shakespeare s life, the facts
surrounding Marlowe s death are far and few between. Down to the very details of the knife
fight that ended Marlowe s life, the accepted understanding of the event is shallow at best. It is
for this reason that and the Archer 4 fact that many of Shakespeare s play take place in Italy, a
place where he had never been, that many believe he fled to Italy. In conclusion, the real identity
behind some of the greatest works of literature has been a source of inexcusable controversy for
over 300 years. From the facts surrounding Shakespeare s life to the shady understanding of
Marlowe s death, many have been left wondering what to believe. Because it is likely that no
damning piece of evidence will ever be found, the mystery remains to be decided in the mind of
the skeptic and the question will be forever asked; Was it really

Essay on Remember the titans Informal Roles of Characters
Remember The Titans was a movie that was set in a very hostile time in our country. We were in
the middle of what I like to call a civil war. Although there were no battles or gunfights our
country was torn in half. There was an issue dealing with race in the United States. The movie,
Remember the Titans is based on actual events that occurred in the year 1971. Mainly on the
integration of a school called TC Williams High School. When the school was integrated the old
football coach, Coach Yoast, was let go and a black coach Herman Boone was hired on. The main
plot of this movie is regarding the coaching change in the school and the 1971 football season the
TC Williams Titans have. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;During the movie we see... Show more

Leadership is shown in many ways in the movie and leadership is represented through main
characters. Coach Boone first of all represents the entire black community overcoming the
oppression that they have experienced through all of the years. He exhibits the determination
that is inside all of the players to win the state championship nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Of
course the coach is going to be the team leader but the kids also need a peer to step up and be a
leader. In a not so informal role Gerry Bertier rises to the challenge and establishes himself as the
team leader. He shows us this a few times in the movie. Once when he approaches one of the
other players, Julius Campbell, and asks him why he is playing so selfish. Gerry then listens to
his teammate s opinion and acts accordingly to do what is best for the team, because that is what
leaders do, even if it mean calling out his best friend and making him step it up. Gerry also
represents the inspiration of the team because every time the team is down he picks them up and
brings them together. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Another important role that is established by
one of the players is the role of the magnet that finally brings the black kids and the white kids
together. This role is taken on by Louie Lastik. He takes this role when he s the first one to
approach the other black kids and make friends with them. He shows us his role when he sits down

O, N, And B. D. H. J. T s Mutation
One day after setting up the replica plates, we observed thick growth in all the intersections of
Min + His and thick growth everywhere the strains were placed (see figure above), which suggests
that the matings and the cellular transfer were successful, respectively. We observed thick growth
on the min plate at intersection of P and his1, P and his4, and P and his5 while observing no
growth on his3 and P, which suggest P s mutation is within the same geneas his2. For the sake of
space, see table Min Plate Intersectional Growth for O, N, and Y stains complementation test.
Therefore, we conclude that P s mutation is in the same gene as his3, O s mutation is in the
same gene as his1, N s mutation is in the same gene as his5, and Y s mutation is in the same gene
as his4. Thus, the genotype P is his1+, his3, his4+, his5+, leu 2+, ura3+, and trp1+. O is his1,
his3+, his4+, his5+, leu 2+, ura3+, and trp1+. N is his1+, his3+, his4+, his5, leu 2+, ura3+, and
trp1+. Y is his1+, his3+, his4, his5+, leu 2+, ura3+, and trp1+.
The second day after setting up the cross, we observed growth in the way of 3 colonies that grew
on the min on stains his1, his4 and P; and 7 colonies that grew on min + his plate on stains
his1(3 and one of which was at the same spot as on the min plate), his4 (3 colonies), and his5 (1
colony). On the third day, we observed no new colonies. The colonies described above that we saw
form on day 2 outside of the intersections after setting up the replica plates were

Sheldon s Broken Window Theory
To truly test broken window theory would involve analyzing the public perception of disorder and
crime (Gau Pratt, 2010). Generally speaking do people differentiate between crime and disorder or
do they blend together? If indeed people can distinguish between the two, then there is hope for
maintenance policing and Broken Window Theory (Gau Pratt, 2010). However, if they do in fact
merge, then the effectiveness of maintenance policing and by proxy the validity of the concept of
Broken Window Theory need to be rethought.
BROKEN WINDOW THEORY 5 Data from a 2003 mail survey was conducted in the Eastern Part

neighborhoods. Twenty counties were sent the survey four times to ensure they got the survey. Two

Sheldon says that it is not even really a theory at all. Sheldon says that it lacks a theoretical basis
and has no rational (Sheldon, 2001). He says it is silly to think that if minor offenders like
window washers are arrested, that bigger crimes will go down because criminals will commit
crime regardless of a zero tolerance policy (Sheldon, 2001). Sheldon wants to know why there is
crime in a community in the first place, and how much of it was fixed before the policy was put
into place (Sheldon, 2001). Sheldon says that minor crimes like littering and graffiti do not lead
to homicide, rape or burglary (Sheldon, 2001). The general idea is that this minor disorder will
give way to more intense crimes, but Sheldon says the idea of disorder is sketchy at best is widely
open to a subjective basis. Sheldon also pays close attention to the New York Policing Experiment.
Sheldon points out that little mention is given to what

Descriptive research plays an important role in educational research because it has greatly increased
our knowledge about what happens in the classroom. What is descriptive research? Descriptive
research can involve collecting quantitative information, or it can describe categories of information
such as patterns of interaction when using technology in the classroom. Although it may employ
fundamentals of both quantitative and qualitative research, descriptive research does not fit neatly
into the definition of either quantitative or qualitative research methodology. Descriptive research
takes a what is approach. Types of questions that may be addressed using descriptive research

Disadvantages include lower response rate and the need to take design a survey instrument with a
simple format. A letter of transmittal should accompany mailed questionnaires. The letter of
transmittal should state the purpose and importance of the research, the importance of responding
to the research, a time frame to respond, a confidentiality statement, an offer to share results, and a
thank you to the respondent. To obtain the best results, good surveys should use good questioning
techniques. They should use complete sentences and offer a limited set of answers. Surveys should
be interesting and should be worded so that the questions mean the same to everyone.
They should inform participants about the kinds of answers that are appropriate and should provide
definitions for any terms that might be confusing. The third way to collect information for
descriptive research, observational research methods, has long been used across a number of
disciplines. Observational methods are concerned with naturally occurring behaviors observed in
natural contexts or in contexts that are contrived to be realistic. Since observational research
methods require direct observation of behavior, many consider it superior to other methods because
the data are gather directly without intermediary

St. Louis Piety
St. Louis has all these traits he is well educated, a strong warrior, very pious and has authority.
He comes from the nobility so he was well educated and taught to fight. His family has a long
tradition of being kings and they have a good relation with the Church. But everyone makes him
out to be the ideal king. The kind of king that everyone should aspire to be. But that is not true. He
went on two crusades. On the first his army was defeated and his country was forced to pay for his
release. On is second he was killed. His religious piety was his undoing. He was so focused on
religious goals that he lost sight of being a good king. As talked about early a good king needs to

However during his crusade this may have led to his defeat. During the 7th crusade, the crusades
are faced with a decision of where to go after capturing Damietta. They could choose to follow
the 5th crusade and go down to Mansurah then Cairo or go to Alexandria. Thomas Madden in
The Concise History of the Crusades takes about St. Louis reasoning behind his choice to go to
Mansurah. Louis deeply believed that God was eager to bestow great victories on his army of
crusaders, and the ease with which they had taken Damietta confirmed this for him. He felt certain
that similar victories awaited them at Mansurah and Cairo if only they put their trust in God rather
than in clever bargaining. (Madden pg160) St. Louis felt that God was going to help them win the
battles to come and put his trust in God rather than reason. With his strong devotion to God, it is

My Writing As An Inquiry
I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and other skills during my semester in Writing as an
inquiry . Not only were my writing skills improved, my understanding of rhetoric increased as well.
This was done through teacher instruction, class participation, and assignments. Up to this point, I
completed four projects in the semester. Each project being very different and improving my writing
, rhetoric, communication skills, and testing my creativity. The first project that was assigned in the
class was a LearningNarrative. The goal of this assignment was to write about a profound learning
moment that occurred in my life. Another goal of this assignment was to expand my knowledgeon

A lightbulb clicked and I decided to use Lifetime gym as my culture and a dumbbell as my
artifact. The next step of this project was to compare my culture and artifact with another
culture. The biggest obstacle I faced was having to be creative and think about how other people
and cultures may view the dumbbell. It was difficult to pick just one certain group and try to
hypothesis how they may view the dumbbell. I chose to think of how people of low income and
countries in poverty may view the dumbbell. I hypothesized they most likely do not have access
to the dumbbell. Therefore, not knowing what it is, or having to use other heavy objects as a
substitute for a dumbbell. This project was very interesting and eye opening. An object like a
dumbbell, which I have very easy access to, is not easily accessible for everyone.
Without this project, I would not have thought of a broader culture. It makes me grateful to be
able to have such easy access to a dumbbell, which others in countries in poverty may not have
the luxury of. I reached the goals of this assignment. I was able to think of a specific artifact and
describe it in specific detail. I then thought of a few broader cultures and was able to compare a
specific culture to mine.
Project three was the remix project. The goals of this project were to be able to take writing and
turn it into a visual. In a group with two other people, we would use the phrase A

middle class family who s servants and maids are called The help and are exclusively African
American and treated as if they were diseased and below any white American. The maids did the

How Did Mythology Influence Greek Culture
Mythology contributes to the culture of many societies. More specifically, Greek mythology
severely influenced Greek society. Monuments, buildings, and statues were built in honor of the
Greek gods. What s unique about Greek mythology, according to my book, states The Greeks made
their gods in their own image (Hamilton). This is different than most religions because the people
created their own gods/goddesses and made them relatable. The concept of gods/goddesses having
human like features and performing emotion driven actions is what makes Greek mythologyunique.
Compared to monotheistic religions such as Christianity, it vastly differs since in Christianity God
is incomprehensible while in Greek mythology the gods/goddesses are human like. Some might ask
if Greek mythology are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My reasoning is that in the end, mythology and religion accomplish the same goal of providing
something to believe in. Lastly, there are also many aspects of mythology that overlaps with
religion such as the concept of gods/goddesses, traditions, and places of worship.
Within the book it also states Greek Mythology is largely made up of stories about gods and
goddesses, but it must not be read as a kind of Greek bible, an account of the Greek religion.
According to the most modern idea, a real myth has nothing to do with religion. It is an
explanation of something (Hamilton). This illustrates that there are two viewpoints of Greek
mythology. One is the past view where Greek mythology is considered a religion. While the
other is the present view and views mythology as stories explaining phenomenons. There are
many schools of thought about the subject, but I personally can understand both viewpoints.
From my perspective I believe the purpose of mythology is to provide explanations of events and is
used as a platform to teach a lesson or moral values. My key concept was folklore. I chose folklore
because

are different preferences of car in different markets. It is hard for a start up company to meet every

The Devil And Tom Walker Romanticism
Most people have never heard of the Rationalist and Romantic movements. They are a major part
in today s literature. The story The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving is a story about a
man who is conflicted with the devil and he and his wife search for wealth. The Masque of the
Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe is a short but mind twisting story about the plague of the Red Death,
and people trying to use wealth to hide themselves from it. Another amazing short storywould be
The Devil and Daniel Websterby Stephen Vincent BenГ©t which is inspired by Irving s story, and
it has to do with Jabez Stone who is stuck in a predicament with the Devil and needs to be saved.

The swamp was where the Devil was in the story, The swamp was thickly grown with great
gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet high, which made it dark at noonday, and
a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood (Irving 4). Tom s wife managed to get cemented in
the swamp, and later died. She would have never gone in there if it was not for Tom and his
feelings about the swamp. Tom was scared, but also wanted the money that he found out was
buried in the swamp. These feelings all came together to influence Mrs.Walker to go into the
swamp where she eventually met her demise. It is assumed in the story that the Devil killed her.
She would not have died if it was not for Tom and his incite on the swamp. Similarly, in the story
of the Devil and Daniel Webster, the Devil almost lead to the death of Daniel and Jabez. In the
story of Daniel Webster, the Devil summoned people up from Hell to help jury a case between
Jabez Stone and the Devil, and with that, the fire burned blue and the door blew open and twelve
men entered, one by one (BenГ©t 314). This illustration shows the power that evil can have, and
although it may not be the most realistic representation, the point still stands. Jabez Stone made a
deal with the Devil, and if it was not for Daniel Webster, Jabez would not be alive. Jabez was due to
give his life to the Devil because of the deal that he made with him.

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Childhood PBNJ Stuffed with Potato Chips and Cheese Doodles Sandwich plus an Enormous Sneeze characterized my Fourth Grade School Year. This trio of food, event, along with place marked my entire life. Many of us carry secrets from childhood. These memories color the world, but moreover, brand our character as well as behavior. In my opinion, these imprinting events impact the emotional, including psychological, development of a child, likewise adult. Life altering imprinting events spare only but a few. I am among the countless who relive, for better or worse, a firmly etched event from adolescence. A Robin s Brood Many can point to an event in childhood starkly imprinting their life. The experience, often disguised, impacts the way an adult faces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intrusion erupted from the third floor. It was immediately unknown to our class if the troublemaker was a student, teacher, or a nun. The detonation released squeals of laughter. In short, this sneeze entirely disrupted our academic progress, at least for a bit. Gone were the doldrums of a hushed Fourth Grade Classroom. In contrast to the euphoria, this sneeze of sneezes awakened in me a new and better understanding. That is, the inability to master, much less control our physical self. Ah Choo Unlike a simple sneeze, this was a two part explosive nasal oral unrepressed force. Depriving the instigator, or better, its victim, of his anonymity, dignity, including self composure. A barreling echo of sound waves hurtling through the vaunted vestibule of an unassuming school building. Then crashing into my ear, with an unmistakable booming rhapsody. A refrain of Hail Mary, Jesus Christ! and Oh, God! Help Me! from a solitary, beleaguered, then surrendering soul. I confess a certain religiosity, as I was attending Roman Catholic Elementary School. Servicing us was a brood of Irish Italian nuns together with laypersons. All devoutly fulfilling the task of educating their passel of pupils. Pars I. Magna Sternumenta Big Sneeze Part 1 Ahh... • 3. Marxism In Ponies A famous quote of Karl Marx says: The Rich will do anything for the poor, but get off their backs. This saying indicates the power imbalance between the rich and the poor, as the rich have the freedom to do whatever they want to the poor, while the poor can do nothing about it. This is an example of Marxismbecause there are power struggles between the rich and the poor.. Marxism is a well known theory, originating from the mid 19th century by Karl Marx, and it is used to reveal historical content, power imbalances, and political beliefs. In other words. in writing, authors can use these ideas from Marxism to develop a text that will help readers understand power struggles, political views, and the reasons behind the conflicts in the text.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text describes how the main character has to do things against her will in order to fit in with the other girls, since she s trying to become a part of their group. The character Barbara does not want to cut off her pony s voice as she, throws her arms around Sunny s neck, protecting it. (Johnson 3). But she ends up ready to do so. I won t! Barbara tells them all, but even as she cries... she knows she will. (Johnson 3). Barbara feels as if she has to conform to whatever everyone else is doing. This shows that she lacks power and TheOtherGirls are in control with all the power. This explains that Barbara is not a person who trusts themselves to do what is right. This shows that she lacks power. Nevertheless, TheOtherGirls make everyone follow them, as they have a lot of power. In the end, TheOtherGirls still reject Barbara as they say, You re not one of us. (Johnson 4). After all the trouble Barbara took to fit in with TheOtherGirls, they still deny her. TheOtherGirls can do whatever they want to Barbara, as she is susceptible enough to listen to them, This shows that The OtherGirls are very powerful. They took control over Barbara, and ruined her life, as they misled her with fake lies, and killed her pony in the process. The story Ponies includes Marxism when it describes the power imbalance between Barbara and TheOtherGirls, and how they have much more power than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Companies spend millions of pounds a year on advertising so that when the public are searching for a product or service a certain brand is recognised and, as a result, their product or service is chosen. Companies need to ensure that their money is spent wisely. They do this by completing extensive market and physcological research. This is illustrated in the first advertisment, for Chanel No.5 perfume. The classic, sophisticated design immediately sets the tone for the advert and for the type of audience it has been aimed at. Chanel is an icon of the 21st century and its image needs to be preserved by attracting new customers. The modern, yet timeless layout of the promotion emphasises on this, but the advert is traditional enough to appeal to older audiences. This shows that although Chanel wish to attract a newer audience, they also desire to keep their traditional customers loyal to the marque, hence the non controversial advertisment. The advert itself has remained almost unchanged for the last forty years, as Chanel wish to preserve their image. However, to appeal to successive generations the visual treatment has recieved subtle changes, such as the inclusion of a more modern looking colour scheme. The advert instantly grabs the reader with its striking, simplistic design. The contrast between the two main colours adds to the classic meets modern feel that Chanel were aiming for. Chanel is a name dating back to the 1930 s. Over the years, it has been associated with the world of fashion, style and elegent living throughout the world. Chanel do a fantastic job of creating ... The purpose of this study is to explore perceptions, experiences, and patterns of health care practices among Arab Americans and then to discover perceptions and experiences of health care providers associated to culturally competent care. I selected this cultural as we are caring lot of patients from this background especially in the pediatric oncology unit where I am working at MD Anderson. • 8. Interview With Other Culture I have a close family friend who moved here from the Philippines when she was twenty six. We have lived next door to her and her family for over ten years and I never once took the time to learn about her life before she moved to America. With this being said, before this interview, I had no knowledge of the Philippine culture. Before this encounter I had no knowledge of the proclamation of Martial Law placed over the Philippines. Estrellita, the woman I interviewed and spent time with, explained how she was in her last year of nursing school when the President enacted this law. She claimed that those were very hard times for the country, but she had to remain strong and complete school. Once completing school she would be free to seek out an adventure in another country. From this cross cultural experience, I have gained a sense of ease when it comes to interacting with different cultures. I have learned to be patient and listen well when speaking to a person who has a thick accent. Allow me to finish with a quotation from Nelson Mandela: No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it s opposite (Ozdowski, 2013). • 9. It Aint Easy Being Bisexual On TV By Amy Zimmerman A Rhetorical Analysis of It Ain t Easy Being Bisexual on TV The representation of the LGBT community in the film industry has long been a topic of much debate. In her article, It Ain t Easy Being Bisexual on TV, Amy Zimmerman addresses this topic with specific interest on bisexual representation. By appealing to the logic of her audience, using an informal tone, and referring to relatable content, Zimmerman constructs an argument which persuades readers of The Daily Beast that the film industry is unfairly and inaccurately representing bisexuals. However, her argument holds little influence over those who are not movie fans or The Daily Beast readers. Zimmerman begins developing her persuasive argument at the beginning of her article... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support this opinion, Zimmerman immediately clarifies why she believes this, stating that Martell is presented by Game of Thrones as someone with an insatiable appetite (Zimmerman 565) instead of a dissimilar sexuality. This has the result of devaluing his bisexuality and reframing it as masculine libertine (Zimmerman 565). Unfortunately, statistics and logic are rarely enough to persuade an audience about a topic, especially if that topic is emotional. Zimmerman handles this by using rhetorical examples which appeal to the audience s emotions to her advantage. Specifically, she includes characters, titles, and quotes from movies. This works because many members of Zimmerman s audience are movie enthusiasts, which is reasonable to conclude since The Daily Beast delivers award winning original reporting and sharp opinion in the arena of . . . pop culture ( About Us ). For instance, consider the statement that, when even a show like Glee . . . makes fun of the myth of bisexuality, it s clear that bisexual representation . . . is still stuck in the dark ages (Zimmerman 565). By using Glee as an example in this quote, Zimmerman creates a feeling of relatability with the Glee fan base while also showing them how a movie they love is unfairly representing bisexuals. This feeling of relatability makes the audience more receptive to Zimmerman s argument. In addition to using rhetorical examples, Zimmerman also utilizes an informal tone to make herself more ... • 11. Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of personal identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin brother is dead following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her maiden clothes with the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola did not mime her twinbrother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola makes new acquaintances as Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a man, she can hint at her biological identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how she wants others to view her. When Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5. 204), Viola responds What I am, and what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08). Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity and that she is not what her appearance portrays her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the other characters do not recognize her chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of forming one s personal identity. Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in the play have already shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is starting to adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from her appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other characters confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke addresses the concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons a natural perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Before seeing the two twinstogether, the characters in the play saw Viola and Sebastian as one person, Cesario. They looked alike in appearance and could pass ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As technology has progressed so have the ability of visual effects in film. Visual effect techniques has influenced and help innovate film in many different ways in the 21st century. Firstly, one should differentiate between special effects and visual effects. These four areas include: planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating (Masteralexis, Barr, Hums, 2015). The first aspect of planning is something that athletic directors need to be very good at doing. An athletic director needs to have both short and long term goals. If I were to become an athletic director, I would want to make sure all of the student athletes received the proper tools to succeed both on and off the court. I would make sure each student athlete, scholarship and non scholarship, had a tutor available to them at all times. I know that the University of Florida allows each athlete to have a tutor, however, it is optional. The reason that it is optional is because it is something that is enforced by the coaches. Therefore, I would make it a university athletic department policy that all coaches must force their student athletes to use a tutor. I would want to make sure each athlete used their tutor to their advantage so they could be aware of what was going on in the classroom. This would also allow students to not be stressed about their studies, and that way they have a proper balance between their sport and education. Beebe s analysis is from an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not be. She notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of the modern world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme. There are no millers anymore, / Was all that she had heard him say closes the parenthesis of past perfect tense that the first line opens, containing within it the miller s actual words, which Beebe and the reader can take to be the objective fulcrum upon which the rest of this intensely subjective poem balances. It is even clearer that the past perfect is this stanza s essential condition of being when we come to the second past perfect verb, had lingered, found in a clause subordinate to the one before. Thus, Lucius Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier, with one clause hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of past perfect verbs giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect in the second stanza, which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which implies that the fear has a continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia militates against supposing change, and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change than exists. This hypothesis is reinforced by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a pair of past conditional clauses. What he had meant, as direct object, parallels What else ... The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural, cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Each individual member of this audience belongs to a different mindset and has their own background knowledge associated with the news they are consuming. Although people read the news with different intent and expected gain of knowledge, they all get the same amount of information. The best way to begin to explain the audience s expectance of the news is to look at the ideas presented in Alfred Schutz s, The Well Informed Citizen . The man on the street is the general population who takes in information to stay relevant and maintain a stock of little insights to share with colleagues. • 29. Modulating Gene Expression with Multiple Intermediate Steps Gene expression can be modulated by multiple intermediate steps, including transcription, post transcriptional modifications, RNA splicing, translation, and post translational modifications; transcription being the first step and a key mechanism for regulating gene expression. Transcriptional control is mediated through promoters and regulatory elements, which are all essential for spatiotemporally correct gene expression. Genome organization has been undoubtedly linked with regulation of geneexpression through global analyses of mammalian genomes. Previous hypotheses suggested that genome is arranged as independently regulated chromosomal domains flanked by boundary elements (i.e. insulators). This might be true in compact genomes of organisms such as yeasts (e.g. S. cerevisiae 12.1 Mb), where an uninterrupted genomic segment (i.e. regulatory expression unit) is formed comprising of a particular gene and its regulatory elements. Nevertheless, in more complex genomes such as those of humans (H. sapiens 3.2 Gb) and mouse (M. musculus 2.7 Gb) the situation is substantially more complex, where genes and their regulatory elements can be dispersed over many hundreds of kilobases. These observations concur with current hypotheses, where cis regulatory elements including Locus Control Regions (LCRs), enhancers, silencers, and insulators, may be dispersed over tens to thousands of kilobases. Furthermore, cis regulatory elements of one gene are commonly embedded within a neighbour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Portrayal of Women in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Although Death of a Salesman is mainly about a salesman named Willy Loman, the almost hidden presence of the women in the novel goes all too often unnoticed. Linda Loman seems to be the glue that holds the Loman clan together, as Willy, Biff, and Happy are all deluded in one way or another. Arthur Miller depicts Willy s wife in a very specific way, and this is a very crucial part of the story. He depicts the other women in the story in ways that complement Linda s distinct nature. If someone is aware of their surroundings on a physical, mental and emotional level, they have the power to fully immerse themselves in their experience, without hesitation or limitation. In Saidiya Hartman s memoir Lose Your Mother, the reader is presented with an orator who lacks complete awareness of their surroundings, which later translates to a lack of self awareness, while in both Jamaica Kincaid s and Caryl Phillips respective memoirs the reader is presented with authors who are fully aware of their surroundings and thus self aware as well. Immediately the reader is made aware that Hartman is physically aware of her surroundings in Ghana, I chose Ghana because it possessed more dungeons, prisons and slave pens than any other country in West Africa.. (Hartman 7). Hartman is physically aware of her purpose in Ghana: she is here because it contains the most physical remnants of the slave trade than most other countries in West Africa. Hartman know where she will travel while in Ghana, Elmina, Salaga, Gwolu, and she knows she will find the physical remnants of the slave trade in these places: slave forts, markets, roads and castles. Hartman finds these physical remains of slaveryin Elmina, the castle that once held slaves before they entered the middle passage, Salaga, the largest slave market, and Gwolu, the wall that was used to keep slave traders away. Both Kincaid in her memoir A Small Place and Phillips in his memoir The Atlantic Sound are similar to Hartman in this way, as both possess intense awareness of their physical surroundings. Kincaids memoir, although dealing with Antigua and not Ghana, contains awareness from the perspective of a native, Antigua is beautiful. Antigua is too beautiful. Sometimes the beauty of it seems unreal (Kincaid 76). Kincaid additionally addresses the physical remnants of slavery in Antigua, like Hartman, In the Antigua that I knew we lived on a street named after a maritime criminal Horatio Nelson...In the middle of High Street was the Barclays Bank... Happiness In Silas Marner Happiness can be found by going down many avenues; some created through love and connections, and others through greed and petty implements used to fill voids of the soul. Throughout the book, Silas Marner goes down many of these avenues to create happiness within himself. However, when Eppie comes into his life, Silas soon learns that love, community, and family connection is what brings true happinessto him. In Lantern Yard, Marner was a very active member in the church and community. When described as a brother of the church, he was said to be a young man of exemplary life and ardent faith (Eliot 6). In today s society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain social groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular magazines. However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider that astrology is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it is truly a pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of oneself is the consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems such as marriage and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological effects (Bennett, 1998). Besides, astrology is considered as an ancestor of modern science which is supported by two aspects of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the opinion that astrology can not be trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless, according to Fitts Fitzgerald (1977), the fate of one person is determined at some level which is inevitable and inescapable. Moreover, Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations are supposed to determine the characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even for twins. This theory has, in the minds of some, come to explain why Shakespeare s works were not only similar to Marlowe s, but also started shortly after his death. The theory also supplements the conspiracy where linguistic analysis fails. • 49. How Did Mythology Influence Greek Culture Mythology contributes to the culture of many societies. More specifically, Greek mythology severely influenced Greek society. Monuments, buildings, and statues were built in honor of the Greek gods. What s unique about Greek mythology, according to my book, states The Greeks made their gods in their own image (Hamilton). This is different than most religions because the people created their own gods/goddesses and made them relatable. The concept of gods/goddesses having human like features and performing emotion driven actions is what makes Greek mythologyunique. Compared to monotheistic religions such as Christianity, it vastly differs since in Christianity God is incomprehensible while in Greek mythology the gods/goddesses are human like. Some might ask if Greek mythology are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My reasoning is that in the end, mythology and religion accomplish the same goal of providing something to believe in. Lastly, there are also many aspects of mythology that overlaps with religion such as the concept of gods/goddesses, traditions, and places of worship. Within the book it also states Greek Mythology is largely made up of stories about gods and goddesses, but it must not be read as a kind of Greek bible, an account of the Greek religion. According to the most modern idea, a real myth has nothing to do with religion. It is an explanation of something (Hamilton). This illustrates that there are two viewpoints of Greek mythology. One is the past view where Greek mythology is considered a religion. While the other is the present view and views mythology as stories explaining phenomenons. There are many schools of thought about the subject, but I personally can understand both viewpoints. From my perspective I believe the purpose of mythology is to provide explanations of events and is used as a platform to teach a lesson or moral values. My key concept was folklore. I chose folklore because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Black People Interview Report Me: Hello, Mrs.Baker Smith, umm I m here to interview you about being some of the first black people to live on a street called Albanus street, in the Olney neighborhood. Is that okay? Mom: Yup Me: Alright, first question is, how did you feel being one of the only blacks on your street? Mom: Well, initially when I moved on the block I was only 6 years old... maybe 7. I didn t really feel any type of way because as a child, or human being, some things are learned and experienced. I had never really been around a lot of white people, so it wasn t really taught to me that white people didn t necessarily like black people. Simply because they were black. I mean I knew a little bit about slavery but I was still extremely naive to life, and life experiences, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As you had said. Mom: Umm, probably it was about 6 or 7. • 52. The Devil And Tom Walker Romanticism Most people have never heard of the Rationalist and Romantic movements. They are a major part in today s literature. The story The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving is a story about a man who is conflicted with the devil and he and his wife search for wealth. The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe is a short but mind twisting story about the plague of the Red Death, and people trying to use wealth to hide themselves from it. Another amazing short storywould be The Devil and Daniel Websterby Stephen Vincent BenГ©t which is inspired by Irving s story, and it has to do with Jabez Stone who is stuck in a predicament with the Devil and needs to be saved. All of the stories are Romantic movements from various different authors.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The swamp was where the Devil was in the story, The swamp was thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet high, which made it dark at noonday, and a retreat for all the owls of the neighborhood (Irving 4). Tom s wife managed to get cemented in the swamp, and later died. She would have never gone in there if it was not for Tom and his feelings about the swamp. Tom was scared, but also wanted the money that he found out was buried in the swamp. These feelings all came together to influence Mrs.Walker to go into the swamp where she eventually met her demise. It is assumed in the story that the Devil killed her. She would not have died if it was not for Tom and his incite on the swamp. Similarly, in the story of the Devil and Daniel Webster, the Devil almost lead to the death of Daniel and Jabez. In the story of Daniel Webster, the Devil summoned people up from Hell to help jury a case between Jabez Stone and the Devil, and with that, the fire burned blue and the door blew open and twelve men entered, one by one (BenГ©t 314). This illustration shows the power that evil can have, and although it may not be the most realistic representation, the point still stands. Jabez Stone made a deal with the Devil, and if it was not for Daniel Webster, Jabez would not be alive. Jabez was due to give his life to the Devil because of the deal that he made with him. ...
