Theory- Audience
Ryan.
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
• 18 through to 40
• Masculine themes for the
masculine audience
• Secondary Audience
• Those people watching probably
got their kids of like 12-17 to
watch
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
• Children of ages 4 to 12
• Appeals to any gender
• Secondary Audience
• Can appeal to all audiences, but
a notable secondary audience is
15 to 20, anybody who enjoys
the visual style or narrative could
watch it.
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
• 12 to probably 50, when the
original movies came out
• Male audiences
• Secondary Audience
• The men who saw this when
the originals came out are now
forcing their wives and
children to watch it, who are
now 8 to 15
Hypodermic Needle
• Definition
• The way a film producer or director portrays their own views in
hopes that the audience accepts this as fact
• Example
• In Fight Club, a main theme of them movie is that many peoples
lives are impacted by the products that they are forced to buy and
therefore they are ‘owned’ by these. This is compared, by audiences,
to real life in which these things can be true and they believe this
very easily.
Uses and Gratifications Information
• Very often, I get my news while browsingYouTube or
Twitter. I know it’s probably one of the slower ways to
know but I don’t really take huge interest in the news.
People will most likely use the main outlets for their
curiosity, for example; BBC and Google.
Uses and Gratifications Personal
Identity
• Someone will use media to show others their own
personal identity and hope to influence others, while they
are being influenced by others.
Uses and Gratifications Integration
and Social Interaction
• Facebook and Discord are used a lot to interact socially,
and even when not interacting with each other, two
people still have the opportunity to see what each other
are doing when they look over their friends list
• This stops people from having to put up with each other
in real life
Uses and Gratifications
Entertainment
• This can help a person escape from their real life and relax
while doing so. It is a very common source of enjoyment.
Consumer Generated Content
• Example
• Roblox. They made a website and did nothing else.
• What are the advantages to media producers?
• They only have to make half of the product (or less, much less), then
the audience will make the rest.
• They save plenty of money
• Why would the audience generate content?
• Because of the amount of people that will want to use this product,
they want to get their name out there and often they believe they may
get fame out of it, but they don’t.
