Film Genre As A Reflection Of Film And American Society
Genre is a reflection of society. Film noir is a genre that has a distinctive relationship with the
American society from 1941 1958 because it reflects America s fears and concerns from when they
experienced major upheaval after The Great Depression and during World War I. In particular, the
unstable atmosphere from the aftermath of World War 1 as Bruce Crowther, author of the book Film
Noir: Reflections in a Dark Mirror , elaborates on how Film Noir films produce a dark quality that
derived as much from the character s depiction as from the cinematographer s art. These dark moods
are transparent through the key features of the femme fatale, the film techniques and the impact of the
Hay s code on American film and American society.
Film Noir as a genre is set in a specific period of time. It is also a genre that is considered to be related
to a specific society that of America from 1940 1958. Film Noir as a genre is a term that French critic
Nino Frank coined to describe the new film movement emerging from Hollywood in the 1940 s,
which appeared to be black and white, crime and detective films. But these two prominent
characteristics do not form the genre alone. Stylistic film features such as mood, style and tone are
very eminent in Film Noir however it was not always considered as a film genre, but this is what
makes the film genre so distinctive. Film Noir was a new movement or cycle of films as it consisted of
expressionistic lighting techniques such as low

Punta Cana Research Paper
Punta Cana Fun
Visiting a different island in the Caribbean each summer has always been a family tradition of mine.
The first few years never failed to make me fall in love with each and every one of them, but once my
family suggested on visiting Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the eighth year, my thoughts were not
so hyped. Going to the same sea each year can get old and boring. When we finally got to Punta Cana,
falling in love was too short of a term to describe what I felt for it. As soon as we landed we were
greeted with songs and happiness all around. The nobleness lingering in the atmosphere, coconut
smell in the air, and architecture went beyond my imagination.
The Dominican Republic in the West Indies occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of
Hispaniola. The beach city of Punta Cana is located on the far eastern shore of Dominican Republic in
the province of Altagracia, bordering the Atlantic Ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sugary sand of a Punta Cana beach is so soft, so perfectly golden that you might think it was
synthetic. My favorite thing to do was build enormous sand castles along the shore as the sun blazed
down on me, the sand glistened in the sun like an eight karat diamond ring. The resorts are laid out
like mini cities, completely inclusive in every way, with many of them offering so many amenities that
it made it impossible to partake of everything available,
such as scuba diving, fishing, golfing, wind sailing, enjoying a day at the spa, or a day out on a yacht.
This is the ultimate destination for those who simply want to drop their bags, turn off the cell, and
ignore the rest of the world for a little while. We spent five more days in Dominican after leaving
Punta Cana, but it seems like my memories of Punta Cana overshadowed the rest of the journey. Punta
Cana is worth writing and telling everyone about Punta Cana is worth admiring, and most certainly it
is worth visiting again and

Serotonin Syndrome Case Study
Serotonin Syndrome is the resulting symptom of excess serotonin in the central nervous system or the
peripheral nervous system (Gillman 1999). The condition may occur as a result from the misuse of
therapeutic drugs, consuming a combination of drugs or the overdose of a particular drug. This
abnormal level of serotonin leads to a range of symptoms including confusion, agitation, pupil
dilation, head aches, change in blood pressure and temperature, nausea, diarrhea, increased heart rate,
tremor, loss of muscle control (spasms) and heavy sweating (Fink 2007). It was seen in Joe s case that
he experienced a high body temperature, increased heart rate, dilated pupils, muscle spasms and
disorientation after consuming illicit drugs. Based on his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a patient is at critical condition a state of sedation or neuromuscular paralysis is used to control
agitation as well as restoring the changes in blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature.
Symptithomimetic drugs such as norepinephrine and phenylephrine are used to treat patients who
experience autonomic instability (Gillman 2010). Furthermore, the use of short acting nitroprusside or
esmolol can be used to combat tachycardia and hypertension.
It is important to take the cause of serotonin toxicity into consideration when determining the
appropriate treatment. The enzyme monoamine oxidase is able to catabolize serotonin when in the
presence of oxygen, thus oxygenation will aid in transporting the excess serotonin if the rise in body
temperature or metabolic acidosis is prevented (Gillman 2010). Oxygen, however, will not assist in
the dispatch of serotonin if monoamine oxidase inhibitors are the cause of serotonin syndrome (Frank
2008). Hydration is therefore key to provide oxygen in this situation until the enzyme is

Henry Ford And The Model T
In October of 1908, Henry Ford, owner of the revolutionary Ford Motor Company, had released to the
public the Model T, an automobile powered by a gasoline engine, namely called a horseless carriage
since it was a similar form of transportation. Although early blueprints of automobiles were in
Germany and France at the time, it wasn t them who took over the automobile industry, it was the
Americans. Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Chrysler were the big three who dominated
the car market. Their mass production of cars for the public exploded with popularity, especially
Henry Ford s company, and the Model T, almost every aspect of it was a draw to people. One of the

Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence
Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence
Neurological Development
According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain
development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception
(Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and
heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without
thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the
cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex
processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex,
this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as
planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe,
temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision.
The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain
(Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social
understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal
lobe is

Heroism In Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, is a tragedy written by
William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark,
the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius
had murdered his own brother, Hamlet s father King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne,
marrying his deceased brother s widow, Hamlet s mother Gertrude.
Hamlet is Shakespeare s longest play and among the most powerful and influential tragedies in
English literature, with a story capable of seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others. The
play seems to have been one of Shakespeare s most popular works during his lifetime It has inspired
writers from Goethe and Dickens to Joyce and Murdoch, and has been described as the world s most
filmed story after Cinderella .
The story of Hamlet ultimately derives from the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th century
chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum, as subsequently retold by ... Show more content

in Shakespeare s day. Significant parallels include the prince feigning madness, his mother s hasty
marriage to the usurper, the prince killing a hidden spy, and the prince substituting the execution of
two retainers for his own. A reasonably faithful version of Saxo s story was translated into French in
1570 by François de Belleforest, in his Histoires tragiques. Belleforest embellished Saxo s text

Spotify Strategy
Project Summary Introduction Spotify is an online commercial music streaming platform that, despite
earning a massive sum of Euros in 2012, has never recorded any profit ever since its launch in 2008.
Royalty costs and increases in licensing costs cover most of Spotify s expenses, and these fees
continue to be a problem as it prevents Spotify from making a profit. Purpose This paper aims to
improve Spotify s strategies in order to make its business more profitable. Method This paper will use
secondary data to analyze both Spotify s external and internal environments. The main tools used here
are: PEST, SWOT and the Five Forces analysis. The paper will give insight into Spotify s pricing and

iTunes. The idea is to allow music consumers to listen to on demand music from a cloud on the
internet, instead of possessing the digitalized files on a computer. Spotify is available in 28 countries
and currently has over 24 million users, of which over 6 million are paying subscribers. Spotify offers
threes different subscriptions: Spotify Free, Spotify Unlimited, and Spotify Premium. Spotify has
signed an agreement with all the four major record labels. The company has received financial
backing from the likes of Northzone, Kleiner Perkins Caufield amp; Byers, Accel Partners and DST.
1.2 Mission, vision and values Spotify s mission is to connect millions of people with their favorite
songs and create a service that people love to use. They believe that music should be easily accessible
for everyone, as listening to music may enrich peoples lives. They want to make a win win solution
for both the people who are creating the music and the people who wish to listen to the music. Their
vision is thus to provide music for every moment. To become the number one operating system for the
music of the future, and to attract more users to their premium services in order to generate more

Associative and Time Series Forecasting Models
Forecasting Models: Associative and Time Series
Forecasting involves using past data to generate a number, set of numbers, or scenario that
corresponds to a future occurrence. It is absolutely essential to short range and long range planning.
Time Series and Associative models are both quantitative forecast techniques are more objective than
qualitative techniques such as the Delphi Technique and market research.
Time Series Models
Based on the assumption that history will repeat itself, there will be identifiable patterns of behaviour
that can be used to predict future behaviour. This model is useful when you have a short time
requirement (eg days) to analyse products in their growth stages to predict short term outcomes.
To use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be analysed using either the multiplicative or additive method. In the additive version,
seasonality is expressed as a quantity to be added to or subtracted from the series average. For the
multiplicative model seasonality is expressed as a percentage (seasonal relatives or seasonal indexes)
of the average (or trend). These are then multiplied times values in order to incorporate seasonality.
Associative Models
Also known as causal models involve the identification of variables that can be used to predict another
variable of interest. They are based on the assumption that the historical relationship between
dependent and independent variables will remain valid in future and each independent variable is easy
to predict. This form of analysis can take several months and is used for medium term forecasts for
products in their growth or maturity phase.
The procedure for this model is to collect several periods of history relating to the independent and
dependent variables themselves, establish the relationship that minimizes mean squared error of
forecast vs actual using linear or non linear and singular or multiple regression analysis.
So you first predict the independent variable, then look at the established relationships between that
independent variable and the dependent ones to predict what the dependent variables will be. You then
develop an equation that summarizes the effects of predictor variables.
To do this you will need aggregate data which

The Themes Of Suspense In Billy Dahl s The Landlady
Dahl develops suspense throughout The Landlady by introducing an unfamiliar location for Billy
Weaver, Bath, England. Since Dahl set the story in Bath, an undoubtedly shabby city, he increases
Billy Weaver s tension, which many feel when they are in a new place. Due to Billy s nervousness of
the unaccustomed environment, he accepts multiple peculiarities of the landlady that he may not have
at home. For instance, Billy fails to recognize the odd selectiveness of applicants the landlady has. But
the trouble is that I am inclined to be just a teeny weeny bit choosy and particular if you see what I
mean (Dahl 2). Dahl forms suspense with the reader as they begin to question whether Billy Weaver
will discover the landlady s horrific intentions. However, it is quite normal for someone to not be able
to see awfully apparent events upon an unfamiliar situation. For example, the article, Fear of the
Unknown explains, Every time an individual encounters an unfamiliar situation, the fear manifests
itself, and prevents an individual from taking the right decision in life (Perry). In Billy s situation, his
fear of unfamiliar surroundings forces him to take the landlady s word for everything. Therefore, the
landlady easily manipulates Billy and creates a distorted perception of safeness and comfort, which
also prevents Billy from recognizing he is in the face of potential death. As Dahl continues to
foreshadow that the landlady is a possible threat, the reader begins to

Illegalization Of Interracial Marriage
American society is becoming more diverse, and workplaces, schools, and other arenas are fairly open
so people can meet others of different races on one to one levels, ( Passel, 2). Interracial marriage
seems to be a topic that is often set aside until another complaint or testimony is filed. Racism has
been an issue throughout the country for over 90 years. Interracial marriage should be legal, because
all races are as human as another, it s racist to make it illegal, and the descendants of interracial
couples are more open to cultural studies and conversation. Martin Luther King Jr. said, We may have

races have their differences, but they have the same access to the same rights in America. Although,
the harsh treatments take place much more than they should be thought of. Including information from
primary interviews, the ethnical differences can be a good thing. A teenage girl said, There are
multiple advantages in having parents and family members from different races. You learn new
practices, holidays, and even fashion trends! , (Kaylee Welch, 2016). Cultural studies are learned and
applied at a very young age. Welch said, I learn new things daily. My mother is Korean, and my dad is
American. Of course, I m used to the American style , but one of the first things I ever learned from
my mom s side of the family is the way that they celebrate a baby being born. When he/she is born,
the family throws a special party, and a special decision takes place. We would lay things like food,
money, and clothes on a table. Whichever the baby picks, or touches, first will symbolize how their

Working While Traveling Essay
Meta description: Freelancers are able to travel abroad for long periods of time while working their
current jobs. But there are things you will need to know about working while traveling. Here are some
of the most vital international travel tips for any freelancer embarking on a trip.
One of the joys about freelancing is the freedom that you have to travel. Whether it s just for a few
weeks or a trip lasting six months, there are several travel tips that you need to keep in mind.
Manage Your Finances
Money is something you don t really want to worry about, but as a freelancer you can t help it,
especially while traveling. Do yourself a favor and manage it before you leave to keep your headaches
to a minimum.
Joyce Grace from the Manage WP Blog advises that you turn off all monthly services such as Netflix
or Hulu that you won t be using while on the road. Call your mobile provider and ask them to give you
an international plan and make sure you tell them where you re headed, because they can freeze your
account if they think your phone has been stolen.
Also be sure to tell your bank and Paypal that you are traveling abroad, and check in if your plans
change. Having your bank accounts frozen while traveling is a horrifying experience that no one
wants to go through, so continually keep them up to date as you travel.
Visa Requirements
Always plan your trip ahead of time because you need to be aware of visa requirements for all of the
countries you re going to

Examples Of Heroism In World War One Poetry
World War One poets Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen both use poetry to examine their differing
perspectives surrounding the idea of heroism in war. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an idealistic,
patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est demonstrates a
realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic techniques of imagery
and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious events of the greatest war that
the world had ever seen at that time.
The Soldier was written at the beginning of World War One before anyone had a chance to experience
the atrocity of a world war. The sonnet portrays a romanticised view of the positives of war for his

By creating these nurturing, peaceful images of a beautiful countryside, Brooke evokes pride from his
primary audience, which in turn creates a sense of nationalism. Furthermore, references to the themes
of heaven and the afterlife create comforting images in the reader s mind. Brooke describes a pulse in
the eternal mind for the hearts at peace under an English heaven , suggesting that those who die
fighting for their country will find themselves in a heaven as idyllic as England. The paradisiacal
images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images featured in Owen s poem. Dulce
et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the goriest details of war. The soldiers in the
poem are described as old beggars who are coughing like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity,
health and the innocence associated with youth. As the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a
gas attack and is described vividly, with white eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from
his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through
his juxtaposition of children ardent for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks
. The use of these similes and images shocks the reader and conveys the ruthless reality of war.
Furthermore, the distinctive use of sound devices by both poets further illustrates their opposing views
on war. The use of alliteration to create

The importance of protecting the safety of the public and most importantly, the children is a lot higher
than the offenders right to privacy. According to a study done by Expert Law, the biggest raised
concern is the fear of vigilantism. That is, law enforcement undertaken without legal authority by a
self appointed group of people. The fear was if neighbors learned about a sex offender s presence in
their neighborhood and decided to force them out or cause physical harm, which is illegal. Violent acts

Megan s Law comes with the disadvantage that it discourages many sex offenders from participating

offenders do not comply with the registration requirement. The United Kingdom does not have public

his story. He allows the reader to relate and emphasizes that they will or most likely have gone

dark woods, the right road lost (Dante, 1408). The Inferno is often described as the quintessence of the
medieval worldview, a codification of the values of the high Middle Ages in art, science, theology and
philosophy (Wilke, Hurt). He was a pious man whose own experiences in a corrupt society shaped his

There is no torment or graphic suffering, however, their suffering is just like the suffering in the
entrance of hell. These same people are filled with a feeling of melancholy, they have a sense of

without the hope of ever having either. As Dante and Virgil step into the next circle, they encounter the

which ended in their adulterous desires taking them to hell. Their punishment is to be blown by strong
winds that never cease. Dante has a recurring theme of the judgement fitting the sin, each judgement is
thought out to somehow relate to each sin. As they continue on to circle III, IV and V they see the
gluttons, avaricious and the angry. The punishments for the first five circles are comparatively the
same. Dante comes across a soul named Ciacco who begins to discuss Florence. Both men knew that
Florence was being divided by the Church and other parties, Ciacco says, Pride, envy, and avarice are

Mr. Gibson s Speech
Mr. Gibson kept calling the front desk to complain about him not receiving breakfast. He had called
three times and still had not received food. Each of those times they assured him someone would be
bringing his food, but someone was not performing his or her duties, which is why Mr. Gibson still did
not receive his breakfast. This performance gap initially started off with dietary, who did not give him
his food. After Mr. Gibson had not received his food for some time, he called Ms. Spencer, the clerk,
to let her know about his situation. She called three times to dietary and it was still taking an awfully
long time for Mr. Gibson to receive his food. The burden would then fall on Ms. Spencer because she
was telling Mr. Gibson his food was coming. In this situation, Mr. Gibson s needs were not met. This
gap can ultimately be detrimental to a patient s health. If a diabetic had not received his or her food
like Mr. Gibson, it could have caused an adverse event which is why this is an important gap to close.
Gap 4: Communication Gap In healthcare, communication between patients, providers and family
members is vital. Clara Spencer, the clerk, had to settle a situation with a patient s wife, which was a
bit uneasy because of a lack of communication. Mrs. Woo was irritated because the nurse said she can
go back to see her husband in five minutes, but 20 minutes had passed and they still would not let her

The Weary Blues Poem Explication
The Weary Blues Poem Explication Langston Hughes, a black poet, proved one of the most influential
poets of the Harlem Renaissance, a flowering of African American literature, art, and culture during
the 1920s and 1930s. In particular, writers of the Renaissance focused heavily on issues of black
identity and struggles faced by African Americans, both economically and socially, as they struggled
with the legacy of the Civil War and omnipresent discrimination. Hughes was no exception, and his
body of work explored the issue of the black experience. His poem The Weary Blues falls squarely
within this literary theme; in it, the black musician portrayed represents the struggles faced by black
Americans, and Hughes clearly communicates that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He notes that the scene of the poem occurs at night, by the pale dull pallor of an old gas light (5). It is
most likely dark outside, and one can t see very well due to the lack of modern, up to date streetlights,
communicating the run down nature of the neighborhood and creating a gloomy mood due to the lack
of light on the street. The very fact that the musician is playing out on the street indicates that he is
most likely down on his luck. Next, Hughes repeats the line, He did a lazy sway... /He did a lazy
sway... (6 7). This repetition, and the drawn out ellipses after the lines themselves, emphasizes the fact
that the night is slow and without energy. Hughes continues on, emphasizing the blackness of the
musician by juxtaposing the musician s skin color with the keys of the piano, noting the movement of
his ebony hands on each ivory key (9). Although the setting of the poem and the content of the blues
song would normally create a downbeat mood, this expectation contrasts with the speaker s frequent
apostrophes to the blues, such as O Blues! (11) and Sweet Blues! (14), which make it clear that the
speaker is overcome with admiration and is struck by the nature of the song, emphasizing the
contrasting nature of blues songs in general. Despite this contrast, however, the mood and setting
created in the first stanza set the scene for the musician s revelation in the second stanza. The musician
s song relies on colloquial diction, using black vernacular language, exemplified when he sings Ain t
got nobody but myself./I s gwine to quit ma frownin (20 21), further emphasizing the musician s

How dare he? I thought he knew me better. I thought I knew Roo after seeing him for 17 long years, I
thought he would know by now that I DO NOT want to get married! All of those lay off seasons
wasted, all because Roo decided to propose. Stupid Roo, why did he have to wreck everything? It
makes me think... does he even know me? Wouldn t you think that over the years he would know that
I don t want to be a silly house wife like Pearl was before her husband passed away. I m not like
Nancy and Pearl, I want to live my life, not be tied to a man until I die. Marriage, I can t believe he
proposed the idea of marriage to me that stupid Roo. Why can t things go back to the way they used to
be? With Roo and Barney flying down south like a pair of eagles (Act II, Scene I, Page XLVIII) every
year for the lay off season. Those 5 months of the year they come down are the best months of my life,

I ll be tied to Roo forever I mean Roo is a pretty good bloke and all but I don t want to marry him.
Imagine that, staying with the same person for your whole life, and not making any decisions for
yourself. How boring, I want to live life to my own beat not have to follow orders from my husband. I
don t want to slave in the kitchen all day preparing meals when my husband is perfectly capable of
making his own breakfast in the morning and washing his own clothes. What, so if I get married I am
expected to work harder than my husband?? Work until I have blisters on my hands? And no I don t
get a day off if I am sick unlike my husband I am still expect to do all the house work. Marriage
sounds like more of a punishment than a reward to me. Why would Roo wish marriage upon me? I
don t understand why he was so upset I mean, he knew I didn t want to marry him, well at least I
thought he knew that I wasn t planning to get married my time soon or possibly

Gay Latino History Horacio Ramirez Summary
Gay Latino History by Horacio Roque Ramirez
The AIDS epidemic has become an impacting plague that has expanded across multiple countries as
well as communities. As it continues its identity as a gay mans disease, its stigma generates a negative
connotation that has appealed to figures who are seen as second class individuals. In the essay Gay
Latino Histories/ Dying to be remembered: AIDS obituaries, public memory and the queer latino
archive , author Horacio Ramirez provides evidence of the difficult challenges that came across
homosexual latinos as they died in silence from AIDS. His argument is established through the ideal
subject of the queer latinos, as their lives went unrecognizable concerning the AIDS crisis. With the

Ramirez belived that it was an important matter for homosexuals to not be ashamed of being affected
with the disease as well as keeping quiet in order to avoid judgment and ridicule. Silence had already
made its presence known within the history of latino homosexuals as he refers to it as the latino album
of the dead for ten years. (Ramirez, 104). By talking about AIDS and conveying the issue to the
public, it was an easier way to speak about the disease openly. According to Ramirez, this would be a
step in a better direction as people could make reference of the existence of queer latinos through their
obituaries that were published in the newspapers through the Bay Area Reporter. As some obituaries
mentioned queer latinos death from AIDS as well as their sexual preference, Ramirez makes account
of some of the obituaries masking the disease as there was mention made to other illnesses. He states
that it was often a tactical use of code words and phrases such as cancer , pneumonia , unknown
causes , or long term illnesses that signaled yet obfuscated AIDS related death. (Ramirez, 106). This
pointed out the act of giving queers a bad name which is what the loved ones of the deceased did not
want to happen. By the covering of the truth that queer latinos were infected with AIDS, it

Baking Capstone Project
I m doing baking as a Capstone project as I have very minimal experience with baking, just the basics
that everyone knows such as cookies and cakes. My love for baking started when I was in middle
school, and I was still in 4 H. The members of the group were able to choose different subjects to do
projects on, and you would do these projects on your own to submit to the fair that they held on the
Albuquerque fairgrounds. My first year I had decided to do baking and cake decorating. While a lot of
time was focused on cake decorating, at home I d use special occasions to bake whatever recipes were
in the packet that I had received. In the packet there was one recipe that had caught my interest.
Butterscotch bars. They were like brownies but made

How My Vocabulary Influenced My Writing
I have always been more interested in the reading and writing sides of academia. Being able to
understand and craft intricate pieces of work using only language has and will always be an appealing
idea to me. For most of my childhood I was very much of the mindset that the more large and obscure
vocabulary one used in their writing and speaking, the more intelligent that person was. This led to my
younger self embarking on a quest to learn and incorporate as many of these large complex words into
everyday speech and prose as possible. I was always an incredibly articulate, if not pretentious child
that spoke often and loudly in order to display my wide vocabulary to others in the hopes of
impressing them. I have since been introduced to the idea that there is a certain simplicity in using few
words that can also convey a very intelligent aura. This is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I myself had most of my early writing experiences come from a place of sheer egoism. I wanted to
have the story that the teacher read out loud, or the poem that was hung on the wall for everyone to
see. Aesthetic enthusiasm is also a motive that I completely understand. I find that this shows most in
my writing not in the visual of the words on a page, but how it sounds when read. I am very specific
about the rhythm of my writing, overwhelmingly so with my poetry and also in my prose. I have
already mentioned my great historical impulse for writing. Research to find the facts and then record
them appeals to me and always has. I agree that a great many authors write out of a place of political
purpose in order to attempt to sway readers thought and actions. However, I am still not completely
aware of my political standing and believe that it would be both unfair and ignorant to say that I have
ever written because of this motive. I have not experienced or learned about enough political turmoil
to be fully aware of my place in the political

Information Literacy Paper
Each display of instruction within and through academic libraries was built on the outline of previous
systems: library orientation, bibliographic instruction, and information literacy. For the time period
each methodology served, learners were introduced to new concepts, new knowledge, and new skills
through which new knowledge was constructed. (Shanbhag, 2006) argued that the current practice of
information literacy instruction failed to provide learners with the ability to create new methods and
applications for producing knowledge as it was intended, instead, the same processes from decades
before have been handed down and repackaged as a different approach. The researcher found that the

At Transylvania University, One Area That Is Frequented
At Transylvania University, one area that is frequented by students is the common space on the fourth
floor of the Dalton Voight residence hall. This area is accessible only to the upperclassmen students
who live in this hall. The common area is directly in front of the elevator with hallways of students
rooms branching off on either side. A window on the other side overlooks back circle, as it is called by
the students, a greenspace area in the middle of this residential area. In the warmer months, this area is
more populated. However, during the winter months, all the furniture has been removed and students
are only seen passing through back circle. In the common area, there is a mix of styles of furniture that

Clearly, many students have taken the mix of furniture to be a benefit, instead of the contradiction that
it seems to imply. The common area is also quite large and students use all the space available to them
by spreading out far from each other. When first entering the area, most students would never think to
sit immediately next to someone or even at the table over. Even I do this myself when entering, never
considering sitting close to someone already there. For example, on one day while I was studying
there, there were also three other students were using this space to study and we were all separated
into four different corners. However, there is some socialization that does take place there. The most
common social interactions that I have witnessed are between students passing through and stopping
to talk with those studying in the common area. One of the main facets of the common area is its open
design, leading directly to hallways of students rooms on the side and the elevator. As a result, the
traffic of students is a frequent experience of being in this space. Usually, these spontaneous
conversations are kept limited to small talk as both people are working on separate activities. These
social interactions are also short because it is primarily a place for studying, so people do not want to
be disruptive. Although this is not a formal rule, it is implied because of the activities taking place
there. The students

The American Education System Education
American Education System
Education plays important role in society. It determines the final development of an adult s
personality. In today s society most jobs require a University degree. To receive a University degree
students need to rely on a good education system. Does America provide this? The American
education system has relied on the grade point average system for a long time. The problem with this
is there is not a universal GPA grade point system varying from course to course. This creates an
inaccurate way to determine ones overall achievements. Teachers have different standards than others,
grade inflation can occur and students can be exposed to different learning environments. Does the
education system need to change to create fairness?
The American education system has not changed drastically since the 1900s. In the early 1900 s before
grading, teachers were expected to communicate in depth to their students on how they were doing in
the class. This worked well for small groups and individual tutoring. The ability for this information to
be passed on to those who were not involved with the learning process, such as employers and parents
was limited. By the mid 20th century schools changed drastically as they introduced grades in the
form of letters. The American schools now became more standardized as A, B, C, D and F represented
ones grade. Depending what percentage a student received determined letter they got. An example is
an A is a mark of 90 100%

Crown Insurance Services Case Analysis
CLAW3201 Case Analysis
Introduction
In Crown Insurance Services Ltd v Commissioner of Taxation (Crown), the issues raised are pertinent
to the residence and source of the company under s6(1) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936. As
cases are determined on the basis of all relevant facts and circumstances of each case, this analysis
will focus on how the court s decision process determined whether Crown had carried on business in
the years 2004 2007 inclusive and the existence of central management and control (CM amp;C) in
Australia. The purpose of this is to assess the valuation of Crown s taxable income, which ultimately
resulted in the objective decision to be set aside in favour of the applicant. Evaluation will be made in

Following from this, it is logical to assume that Mr Pattenden had dealt with the reception and
decision towards the valuation of claims while residing in Australia, as it would be extremely
unrealistic for him to travel to Vanuatu each and every single time he received a claim that needed
processing. When now compared to Malayan Shipping, Crown appears to possess much of the same
indicative facts that had caught Malayan Shipping as a resident of Australia. Mr Sleigh had similarly
made decisions relating to his business while in Australia and had drafted contracts that were then
intended to be signed outside of Australia. This was seen as the essential test confirming both carrying
on business and CM amp;C in Australia. It is therefore possible to suggest that should Crown be
further tested in a higher court in the future, highlighting the case of Malayan Shipping and focusing
more on CM amp;C could potentially alter the case outcome.

Current Policy Situation Of Australia
Current policy situation
At present, asylum seekers who arrived in Australia by boat on or after 13 August 2012 and are
granted bridging visas are not allowed to work (Correa Velez, Gifford and Bice, 2014, p. 9). Asylum
seekers who are living in the community on bridging visas have no right to a family reunion and are
not able to re enter Australia if they choose to travel internationally.
Australia has obligations to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
(ICESCR) to promote and ensure the economic, social and cultural rights of all people in Australia ,
this includes asylum seekers (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2013, p. 5). Further, under
Australia s International human rights obligations they are required to permit asylum seekers to live in
the community, while their claims for refuge are being processed. Unless they are assessed as posing a
threat to the community. If an asylum seeker is considered to be suitable to live in the community,
there are strong conditions attached to the bridging visa, this includes a prohibition to work.
The Australian Human Rights Commission (2013, p. 5) argues that releasing asylum seekers into the
community while their claims are being processed is beneficial for their health and well being.
Although, little to no financial assistance is supplied. Asylum seekers that are released into the
community on these visas are not entitled to claim any Centrelink or healthcare benefits, unless they

Universal Health Care
In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the
only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that
has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in
ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the
lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking
advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should put in
place The Universal Healthcare Systems.[1]

Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare
system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2]
I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many
governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the burden of
health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility.
There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is
an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high
spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a
leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the
cost of health care.2
One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make
sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn
will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million Americans
uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable
health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer
lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that

Amebic Dysentery Research Papers
Amebiasis caused when a single celled parasite called E. histolytica enters the human body when a
person ingests cysts through food or water. It can also enter the body through direct contact with fecal
matter. The cysts are a relatively inactive form of the parasite that can live for several months in the
soil or environment where they were deposited in feces. The microscopic cysts are present in the soil,
fertilizer, or water that s been contaminated with infected feces. Food handlers may transmit the cysts
while preparing or handling food. Transmission is also possible during anal sex or colonic irrigation.
When cysts enter the body, they hunt in the digestive tract. They then release an invasive form of the
parasite called a trophozoite. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only about 10 to 20 percent of
people who have amebiasis become ill from it. Symptoms at this stage tend to be mild and include
loose stools and stomach cramping If the parasite invades the lining of your intestine, it can produce
amebic dysentery. Amebic dysentery is a more dangerous form of the disease with frequent watery
and bloody stools and severe stomach cramping. If the parasite enters your bloodstream, it can end up
in your liver, heart, lungs, brain, or other organs, where it causes tissue destruction and abscess. The
liver is a frequent destination for the parasite. Symptoms of amebic liver disease include fever and
tenderness in the upper right part of your torso Diagnosis A doctor may guess amebiasis after asking
about your recent health and travel history. Your doctor may test you for the presence of E. histolytic.
You may have to give stool samples over several days to screen for the presence of cysts. Your doctor
may order lab tests to check liver function, which can help determine if the ameba has damaged your

The Nineteen Five Theses On The Power And Efficacy Of...
When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences in 1517,
he was making a bold and unprecedented move: challenging the Catholic Church. As a German
Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which
is how he displayed the original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but
was instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of God. For
example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and forgiveness on earth. The
ninety five theses acted as Luther s tool of protest against the church and also acted as enlightenment
to the masses. Publication of the theses is also often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant
Reformation after centuries of religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the
corruption and dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how he
believed the Catholic Church was doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He argues against the
church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its members. What the ninety five theses did
was outline two major points: the selling and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory
regarding to God, the Catholic Church and the Pope.
The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves deeply into how and
why indulgences were sold by the

The Sale Of Foreign Arms
POSITION PAPER
ON
THE SALE OF FOREIGN ARMS
1. This paper will argue that, in its current state, the sale of foreign arms does not support United
States (US) foreign policy. The sale of US arms exacerbates conflict in the Middle East and
contributes to human rights abuses.1 The Obama administration implemented a Conventional Arms
Transfer Policy in 2014 to control arms sales and prevent human rights abuses while providing the
weapons countries need to defend themselves in order to prevent the need for US boots on the
ground.2 However, these measures are not enough and US weapons can and do still end up in the
hands of terrorists.1

Countries in the area have hoarded, are using, and are asking for more American arms. These events
have unleashed the possibility of a dangerous new arms race in areas of turmoil and changing
alliances.3 Some of the arms the United States sold to the region are being used in conflicts. Saudi
Arabia uses Boeing F 15 fighters to strike Yemen and the United Arab Emirates is flying Lockheed
Martin F 16 s to bomb Yemen and Syria.3 Saudi Arabia in particular has committed human rights
abuses in its air war in Yemen. Amnesty International has called on the US to cease selling bombs,
fighter jets, and combat helicopters to Saudi Arabia. According to the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights, the conflict between Saudi Arabia and anti government rebels has
killed thousands of civilians, and two thirds of those lives were claimed by Saudi air strikes.4
4. The United States has not ignored the role foreign arms sales play in human rights violations. In
2014, President Obama issued a directive called Conventional Arms Transfer Policy. It clearly
expresses that the United States should not sell military arms to countries that are unstable enough that
they might turn the weapons against the US or its allies. The policy calls for officials to examine the
risk that the recipient of the arms would use them to commit human rights violations or that the arms

Comparing The Grimm Brothers And The Little Mermaid
Contrasting the Grimm brother s version and Disney s version of The Little Mermaid.
Although both stories follow along with the same idea, they are entirely two different stories. Having
lesser detail, the original fairy tale was very short and only gave the main character a name, a back
story, and a goal. Disney s interpretation was more decorated and told a much longer, kid friendly
story. The Grimm Brothers created a dark and simple fairy tale that was full of unexpected twists and
turns. Each sentence was very simple, and didn t add unnecessary details. I would like to have read

of creature they were. I found it really interesting to read something I thought was innocent come from

  • 2. Film Genre As A Reflection Of Film And American Society Genre is a reflection of society. Film noir is a genre that has a distinctive relationship with the American society from 1941 1958 because it reflects America s fears and concerns from when they experienced major upheaval after The Great Depression and during World War I. In particular, the unstable atmosphere from the aftermath of World War 1 as Bruce Crowther, author of the book Film Noir: Reflections in a Dark Mirror , elaborates on how Film Noir films produce a dark quality that derived as much from the character s depiction as from the cinematographer s art. These dark moods are transparent through the key features of the femme fatale, the film techniques and the impact of the Hay s code on American film and American society. Film Noir as a genre is set in a specific period of time. It is also a genre that is considered to be related to a specific society that of America from 1940 1958. Film Noir as a genre is a term that French critic Nino Frank coined to describe the new film movement emerging from Hollywood in the 1940 s, which appeared to be black and white, crime and detective films. But these two prominent characteristics do not form the genre alone. Stylistic film features such as mood, style and tone are very eminent in Film Noir however it was not always considered as a film genre, but this is what makes the film genre so distinctive. Film Noir was a new movement or cycle of films as it consisted of expressionistic lighting techniques such as low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Punta Cana Research Paper Punta Cana Fun Visiting a different island in the Caribbean each summer has always been a family tradition of mine. The first few years never failed to make me fall in love with each and every one of them, but once my family suggested on visiting Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the eighth year, my thoughts were not so hyped. Going to the same sea each year can get old and boring. When we finally got to Punta Cana, falling in love was too short of a term to describe what I felt for it. As soon as we landed we were greeted with songs and happiness all around. The nobleness lingering in the atmosphere, coconut smell in the air, and architecture went beyond my imagination. The Dominican Republic in the West Indies occupies the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola. The beach city of Punta Cana is located on the far eastern shore of Dominican Republic in the province of Altagracia, bordering the Atlantic Ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sugary sand of a Punta Cana beach is so soft, so perfectly golden that you might think it was synthetic. My favorite thing to do was build enormous sand castles along the shore as the sun blazed down on me, the sand glistened in the sun like an eight karat diamond ring. The resorts are laid out like mini cities, completely inclusive in every way, with many of them offering so many amenities that it made it impossible to partake of everything available, such as scuba diving, fishing, golfing, wind sailing, enjoying a day at the spa, or a day out on a yacht. This is the ultimate destination for those who simply want to drop their bags, turn off the cell, and ignore the rest of the world for a little while. We spent five more days in Dominican after leaving Punta Cana, but it seems like my memories of Punta Cana overshadowed the rest of the journey. Punta Cana is worth writing and telling everyone about Punta Cana is worth admiring, and most certainly it is worth visiting again and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Serotonin Syndrome Case Study Serotonin Syndrome is the resulting symptom of excess serotonin in the central nervous system or the peripheral nervous system (Gillman 1999). The condition may occur as a result from the misuse of therapeutic drugs, consuming a combination of drugs or the overdose of a particular drug. This abnormal level of serotonin leads to a range of symptoms including confusion, agitation, pupil dilation, head aches, change in blood pressure and temperature, nausea, diarrhea, increased heart rate, tremor, loss of muscle control (spasms) and heavy sweating (Fink 2007). It was seen in Joe s case that he experienced a high body temperature, increased heart rate, dilated pupils, muscle spasms and disorientation after consuming illicit drugs. Based on his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once a patient is at critical condition a state of sedation or neuromuscular paralysis is used to control agitation as well as restoring the changes in blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature. Symptithomimetic drugs such as norepinephrine and phenylephrine are used to treat patients who experience autonomic instability (Gillman 2010). Furthermore, the use of short acting nitroprusside or esmolol can be used to combat tachycardia and hypertension. It is important to take the cause of serotonin toxicity into consideration when determining the appropriate treatment. The enzyme monoamine oxidase is able to catabolize serotonin when in the presence of oxygen, thus oxygenation will aid in transporting the excess serotonin if the rise in body temperature or metabolic acidosis is prevented (Gillman 2010). Oxygen, however, will not assist in the dispatch of serotonin if monoamine oxidase inhibitors are the cause of serotonin syndrome (Frank 2008). Hydration is therefore key to provide oxygen in this situation until the enzyme is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry Ford And The Model T In October of 1908, Henry Ford, owner of the revolutionary Ford Motor Company, had released to the public the Model T, an automobile powered by a gasoline engine, namely called a horseless carriage since it was a similar form of transportation. Although early blueprints of automobiles were in Germany and France at the time, it wasn t them who took over the automobile industry, it was the Americans. Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Chrysler were the big three who dominated the car market. • 6. Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence Neurological Development According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal lobe is ... • 7. Heroism In Hamlet The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius had murdered his own brother, Hamlet s father King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne, marrying his deceased brother s widow, Hamlet s mother Gertrude. Hamlet is Shakespeare s longest play and among the most powerful and influential tragedies in English literature, with a story capable of seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others. The play seems to have been one of Shakespeare s most popular works during his lifetime It has inspired writers from Goethe and Dickens to Joyce and Murdoch, and has been described as the world s most filmed story after Cinderella . The story of Hamlet ultimately derives from the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th century chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum, as subsequently retold by ... Significant parallels include the prince feigning madness, his mother s hasty marriage to the usurper, the prince killing a hidden spy, and the prince substituting the execution of two retainers for his own. • 9. Associative and Time Series Forecasting Models Forecasting Models: Associative and Time Series Forecasting involves using past data to generate a number, set of numbers, or scenario that corresponds to a future occurrence. It is absolutely essential to short range and long range planning. Time Series and Associative models are both quantitative forecast techniques are more objective than qualitative techniques such as the Delphi Technique and market research. Time Series Models Based on the assumption that history will repeat itself, there will be identifiable patterns of behaviour that can be used to predict future behaviour. This model is useful when you have a short time requirement (eg days) to analyse products in their growth stages to predict short term outcomes. To use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be analysed using either the multiplicative or additive method. In the additive version, seasonality is expressed as a quantity to be added to or subtracted from the series average. For the multiplicative model seasonality is expressed as a percentage (seasonal relatives or seasonal indexes) of the average (or trend). These are then multiplied times values in order to incorporate seasonality. Associative Models Also known as causal models involve the identification of variables that can be used to predict another variable of interest. They are based on the assumption that the historical relationship between dependent and independent variables will remain valid in future and each independent variable is easy to predict. This form of analysis can take several months and is used for medium term forecasts for products in their growth or maturity phase. The procedure for this model is to collect several periods of history relating to the independent and dependent variables themselves, establish the relationship that minimizes mean squared error of forecast vs actual using linear or non linear and singular or multiple regression analysis. So you first predict the independent variable, then look at the established relationships between that independent variable and the dependent ones to predict what the dependent variables will be. You then develop an equation that summarizes the effects of predictor variables. To do this you will need aggregate data which

  • 11. The Themes Of Suspense In Billy Dahl s The Landlady Dahl develops suspense throughout The Landlady by introducing an unfamiliar location for Billy Weaver, Bath, England. Since Dahl set the story in Bath, an undoubtedly shabby city, he increases Billy Weaver s tension, which many feel when they are in a new place. Due to Billy s nervousness of the unaccustomed environment, he accepts multiple peculiarities of the landlady that he may not have at home. For instance, Billy fails to recognize the odd selectiveness of applicants the landlady has. But the trouble is that I am inclined to be just a teeny weeny bit choosy and particular if you see what I mean (Dahl 2). Dahl forms suspense with the reader as they begin to question whether Billy Weaver will discover the landlady s horrific intentions. However, it is quite normal for someone to not be able to see awfully apparent events upon an unfamiliar situation. For example, the article, Fear of the Unknown explains, Every time an individual encounters an unfamiliar situation, the fear manifests itself, and prevents an individual from taking the right decision in life (Perry). Illegalization Of Interracial Marriage American society is becoming more diverse, and workplaces, schools, and other arenas are fairly open so people can meet others of different races on one to one levels, ( Passel, 2). Interracial marriage seems to be a topic that is often set aside until another complaint or testimony is filed. Racism has been an issue throughout the country for over 90 years. Interracial marriage should be legal, because all races are as human as another, it s racist to make it illegal, and the descendants of interracial couples are more open to cultural studies and conversation. Brooke s The Soldier depicts an idealistic, patriotic view towards fighting for his country, whereas Owen s Dulce et Decorum est demonstrates a realistic view of the senseless horrors of war. Both poets utilise similar poetic techniques of imagery and sound devices to express their contradictory views of the atrocious events of the greatest war that the world had ever seen at that time. By creating these nurturing, peaceful images of a beautiful countryside, Brooke evokes pride from his primary audience, which in turn creates a sense of nationalism. Furthermore, references to the themes of heaven and the afterlife create comforting images in the reader s mind. Brooke describes a pulse in the eternal mind for the hearts at peace under an English heaven , suggesting that those who die fighting for their country will find themselves in a heaven as idyllic as England. The paradisiacal images created by Brooke are a stark contrast to the gruesome images featured in Owen s poem. Dulce et Decorum est is rich in similes that graphically illustrate the goriest details of war. The soldiers in the poem are described as old beggars who are coughing like hags , which illustrates a loss of dignity, health and the innocence associated with youth. As the poem progresses, a soldier is the victim of a gas attack and is described vividly, with white eyes, writhing in his face as blood comes gargling from his froth corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer . Owen s dark subject matter is further explored through his juxtaposition of children ardent for desperate glory and soldiers marching like beggars under sacks . The use of these similes and images shocks the reader and conveys the ruthless reality of war. Each of those times they assured him someone would be bringing his food, but someone was not performing his or her duties, which is why Mr. Gibson still did not receive his breakfast. This performance gap initially started off with dietary, who did not give him his food. After Mr. Gibson had not received his food for some time, he called Ms. Spencer, the clerk, to let her know about his situation. She called three times to dietary and it was still taking an awfully long time for Mr. Gibson to receive his food. The burden would then fall on Ms. Spencer because she was telling Mr. Gibson his food was coming. In this situation, Mr. Gibson s needs were not met. • 20. The Weary Blues Poem Explication The Weary Blues Poem Explication Langston Hughes, a black poet, proved one of the most influential poets of the Harlem Renaissance, a flowering of African American literature, art, and culture during the 1920s and 1930s. In particular, writers of the Renaissance focused heavily on issues of black identity and struggles faced by African Americans, both economically and socially, as they struggled with the legacy of the Civil War and omnipresent discrimination. Hughes was no exception, and his body of work explored the issue of the black experience. His poem The Weary Blues falls squarely within this literary theme; in it, the black musician portrayed represents the struggles faced by black Americans, and Hughes clearly communicates that ... It is most likely dark outside, and one can t see very well due to the lack of modern, up to date streetlights, communicating the run down nature of the neighborhood and creating a gloomy mood due to the lack of light on the street. The very fact that the musician is playing out on the street indicates that he is most likely down on his luck. Next, Hughes repeats the line, He did a lazy sway... /He did a lazy sway... (6 7). This repetition, and the drawn out ellipses after the lines themselves, emphasizes the fact that the night is slow and without energy. Hughes continues on, emphasizing the blackness of the musician by juxtaposing the musician s skin color with the keys of the piano, noting the movement of his ebony hands on each ivory key (9). Although the setting of the poem and the content of the blues song would normally create a downbeat mood, this expectation contrasts with the speaker s frequent apostrophes to the blues, such as O Blues! (11) and Sweet Blues! (14), which make it clear that the speaker is overcome with admiration and is struck by the nature of the song, emphasizing the contrasting nature of blues songs in general. Despite this contrast, however, the mood and setting created in the first stanza set the scene for the musician s revelation in the second stanza. The musician s song relies on colloquial diction, using black vernacular language, exemplified when he sings Ain t got nobody but myself./I s gwine to quit ma frownin (20 21), further emphasizing the musician s ... In today s society most jobs require a University degree. To receive a University degree students need to rely on a good education system. Does America provide this? The American education system has relied on the grade point average system for a long time. The problem with this is there is not a universal GPA grade point system varying from course to course. This creates an inaccurate way to determine ones overall achievements. Teachers have different standards than others, grade inflation can occur and students can be exposed to different learning environments. Does the education system need to change to create fairness? The American education system has not changed drastically since the 1900s. In the early 1900 s before grading, teachers were expected to communicate in depth to their students on how they were doing in the class. This worked well for small groups and individual tutoring. The ability for this information to be passed on to those who were not involved with the learning process, such as employers and parents was limited. By the mid 20th century schools changed drastically as they introduced grades in the form of letters. The American schools now became more standardized as A, B, C, D and F represented ones grade. The microscopic cysts are present in the soil, fertilizer, or water that s been contaminated with infected feces. Food handlers may transmit the cysts while preparing or handling food. The liver is a frequent destination for the parasite. Symptoms of amebic liver disease include fever and tenderness in the upper right part of your torso Diagnosis A doctor may guess amebiasis after asking about your recent health and travel history. Your doctor may test you for the presence of E. histolytic. You may have to give stool samples over several days to screen for the presence of cysts. • 33. The Nineteen Five Theses On The Power And Efficacy Of... When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences in 1517, he was making a bold and unprecedented move: challenging the Catholic Church. As a German Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which is how he displayed the original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but was instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of God. For example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and forgiveness on earth. The ninety five theses acted as Luther s tool of protest against the church and also acted as enlightenment to the masses. Publication of the theses is also often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant Reformation after centuries of religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the corruption and dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how he believed the Catholic Church was doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He argues against the church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its members. What the ninety five theses did was outline two major points: the selling and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory regarding to God, the Catholic Church and the Pope. The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves deeply into how and why indulgences were sold by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Sale Of Foreign Arms POSITION PAPER ON THE SALE OF FOREIGN ARMS 1. This paper will argue that, in its current state, the sale of foreign arms does not support United States (US) foreign policy. The sale of US arms exacerbates conflict in the Middle East and contributes to human rights abuses.1 The Obama administration implemented a Conventional Arms Transfer Policy in 2014 to control arms sales and prevent human rights abuses while providing the weapons countries need to defend themselves in order to prevent the need for US boots on the ground.2 However, these measures are not enough and US weapons can and do still end up in the hands of terrorists.1 2. The Obama administration has approved more major arms deals by almost $30 billion in its initial five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Countries in the area have hoarded, are using, and are asking for more American arms. These events have unleashed the possibility of a dangerous new arms race in areas of turmoil and changing alliances.3 Some of the arms the United States sold to the region are being used in conflicts. Saudi Arabia uses Boeing F 15 fighters to strike Yemen and the United Arab Emirates is flying Lockheed Martin F 16 s to bomb Yemen and Syria.3 Saudi Arabia in particular has committed human rights abuses in its air war in Yemen. Amnesty International has called on the US to cease selling bombs, fighter jets, and combat helicopters to Saudi Arabia. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the conflict between Saudi Arabia and anti government rebels has killed thousands of civilians, and two thirds of those lives were claimed by Saudi air strikes.4 4. The United States has not ignored the role foreign arms sales play in human rights violations. In 2014, President Obama issued a directive called Conventional Arms Transfer Policy. It clearly expresses that the United States should not sell military arms to countries that are unstable enough that they might turn the weapons against the US or its allies. The policy calls for officials to examine the risk that the recipient of the arms would use them to commit human rights violations or that the arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Comparing The Grimm Brothers And The Little Mermaid Contrasting the Grimm brother s version and Disney s version of The Little Mermaid. Although both stories follow along with the same idea, they are entirely two different stories. Having lesser detail, the original fairy tale was very short and only gave the main character a name, a back story, and a goal. Disney s interpretation was more decorated and told a much longer, kid friendly story. The Grimm Brothers created a dark and simple fairy tale that was full of unexpected twists and turns. Each sentence was very simple, and didn t add unnecessary details. I would like to have read more about other characters, as it gave zero information on any of the other characters past what kind of creature they were. I found it really interesting to read something I thought was innocent come from something so gloomy, and almost depressing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
