Disaster Preparedness
Disaster Preparedness Plan
A disaster is generally defined as an event in which illness or injuries surpass resource capabilities of a
community or medical facility (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). Disaster preparedness is a process of
ensuring that an organization has complied with the preventive measures and is in a state of readiness
to contain the effects of a predicted disastrous event to minimize loss of life, injury, and damage to
property. Disaster preparedness can also provide rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and other services in the
aftermath of the disaster, as well as have the capability and resources to continue to sustain its
essential functions without being overwhelmed by the demand placed on them. The American Nursing

disaster preparedness plan are that K.F. is currently the Chair Elect for the Az Coalition for Healthcare
Emergency Response (AzCHER Central), which brings hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing facilities,

community stakeholders together for planning. Maricopa Medical Center currently has three to four
members on the general body of this group, including bedside nursing representatives. There are a
number of governmental agencies that are involved in the organization s disaster preparedness
planning. K.F. is an active member with Coyote Crisis Collaborative, which includes some of those

International Trade Theories Essay
International Trade Theories Mercantilism
Mercantilism was a sixteenth century economic philosophy that maintained that a country s wealth
was measured by its holdings of gold and silver (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). This
recquired the countries to maximise the difference between its exports and imports by promoting
exports and discouraging imports. The logic was transparent to sixteenth century policy makers if
foreigners buy more goods from you than you buy from them, then the foreigners have to pay you the
difference in gold and silver, enabling you to amass more treasure. With the treasure acquired the
realm could build greater armies and navies and hence expand the nation s global influence. ... Show

In An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776), Smith attacked the
intellectual basis of mercantilism and demonstrated that mercantilism actually weakens a country.
Smith maintained that a country s true wealth is measured by the wealth of all its citizens, not just that
of its monarch (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998).
A country is said to be more productive than another country, if it can produce more output (goods) for
a given quantity of input, such as labour or energy inputs. An example is that there are only two
countries, Australia and Japan. They both produce computers and wine, and only one factor of
production, labour. Japan produces 6 computers for every 1 bottle of wine, where as Australia
produces only 4 computers for every 3 bottles of wine. This suggests that Australia should export
some of its wine to Japan, and Japan should export some of its computers to Australia. Australia has
an absolute advantage over Japan, when producing wine, and Japan has an absolute advantage over
Australia, when producing computers (Gandolfo, 1998).
Economists use the term absolute advantage when comparing the productivity of one person, firm or
nation with that of another. The producer that requires a smaller quantity of inputs to produce a good
is said to have an absolute advantage in producing that good (Gans, King, Mankiw, 1999).

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s The Marriage Of Figaro
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed The Marriage of Figaro in 1786. For this assignment, the focus
was mainly on the first act of The Marriage of Figaro. The excerpt given was divided into two main
sections. First, I would like to expand on the opera as a whole. Next, I will discuss the first section
given. Then, I will discuss the second.
The entire opera is known as an opera buffa, which is a comedic opera. This was a very common
opera genre in the classical era. The Marriage of Figaro is a perfect example of an opera buffa in a
variety of ways. For instance, an opera buffa has believable characters as individuals. The characters
we see have titles such as a page boy, a music master, a count, and a fiancée. These are all very
common jobs or titles. There is no mention of mythical creatures or other unheard of species. This
makes the opera very relatable to the audiences. The opera also deals with everyday subject ... Show

Instruments such as the violin, cello, and clarinet are being used. The accompaniment thickens greatly
as well. You can hear the drastic difference. The instruments have more lines of music, and on top of
that the instruments are listed in full detail, and each has their own line of music. In addition to the
change of accompaniment, Mozart did a fabulous job of representing the characters through the music.
When the count sings alone, the sound is very regal. This, of course, is due to his position. When
Susanna sings, the accompaniment is higher, and also more rushed. This would be because of the
stress this character is experiencing, and also her gender. In addition, when Susanna, the count, and the
music master sing together, you can hear multiple melodies being played. The action on stage also
stops. In the first section, Susanna was constantly moving. The count and the page boy both hide and

Liverpool s Steven Gerrard versus AS Roma s Francesco Totti
Drawing comparisons between the career trajectories of Liverpool s talismanic captain Steven Gerrard
and AS Roma s patriarch Francesco Totti is an inevitable prospect. Both were passionate childhood
fans of their native football clubs. Both were recruited into their club academies at a very tender age.
Both have risen through the ranks and established themselves as the heart and soul of their club. And
both have consistently led from the front and guided their clubs to football glory.
However, the strongest bond that exists between the two is their relentless, unmitigated devotion to
their beloved club. The common thread that binds Totti and Gerrard together is their unique ability to
stand by their clubs through thick and thin.
But the past few years have been particularly painful for the aficionados of Roma and Liverpool. Totti
and Gerrard have seen their club slip down their respective domestic league tables in recent years
owing to the dominance of their cross country rivals. Both Roma and Liverpool have failed to qualify
for the UEFA Champions League since the 2010 2011 and 2009 2010 seasons respectively. Their
continued absence from Europe s premier football cup competition has severely tarnished their image
and dented their aspirations of attracting the big name players to their clubs which their domestic
rivals have been successfully able to do so.
While Roma occupied a lowly 6th spot in the Italian Serie A in 2012 13, Liverpool was left

Strategies For Lifelong Additional Language Learning Essay
Strategies for lifelong additional language learning
The ability to evaluate whether something is worth learning is considered a meta skill (Siemens et al.
2005). This reference to meta skill is remiscient of the metacognitive processes involved in learning.
Thinking about the learning process is an important aspect as it allows learners to reflect on strengths,
areas of improvement and make adjustments to learning plans (Starkey, 2012). Considering the large
breadth of material (vocabulary, grammar, social and cultural contexts) in learning an additional
language, planning an additional language learning path is crucial to an additional language learners
success (Anderson, 2002). A lifelong commitment to learning a new language does not come without
the potential benefits of the strategic planning, monitoring and thinking about learning processes.
Metacognitive training is associated with promoting learner autonomy and allowing students greater
control over managing their studies (Kangli, 2002). Sucesss and high proficiency in learning an
additional language is contingent on the learner s ability to prioritize, organize and evaluate strategies
related to comprehension (Gu, 2008; Oxford, 2001; Anderson, 2002). Brown (2013) clearly defines
metacognitive activity in additional language learning as three distinct stages planning for additional
language learning, reflecting on the processes as they are taking place as well as monitoring the
production and/or comprehension of

The Sport Of Boxing And Sports
Millions and millions of people are part of some kind of sport worldwide. Many sports require more
than one person in the team such as soccer and basketball. In the other hand there are sports that are
exercised with only two persons, which are the opponents. Many times spectators just watch these
sports but never think, much less, experience the challenges that athletes face. In the sport of boxing
there are many effects psychologically that boxers face every time they set there feet on a ring. In life
people go to college so that with their education one day they can get a well paying career. Similar to
this example people are in the sport of boxing so that with a combination of their hard work and talent
they can achieve something in life. Some other reasons to why people box is to prove to themselves of
what they are capable of doing as well as for the fame. Once a boxer goes professional and starts to
beat their opponents then, that is when media starts to get ahold of them. Companies such as HBO, an
American premium cable and satellite television network, then start to sponsor boxers. Once boxers
start to get sponsored then that is when they start earning seven digit incomes. According to
forbes.com, a leading online media company, Floyd Mayweather (professional boxer), will be paid
$200 million dollars for this current year (2015.) Mayweather is the best paid athlete in the world,
which only translates to the amount of money a boxer can earn if he becomes famous.

Top 10 Worst Roman Emperors
The Roman Empire was vast at its peak and its influence is still felt today in our forms of military,
government, and society in general. Ruled over for a time by emperors, the empire had periods of
greatness and periods of decline. This list looks at ten of the emperors who have left their mark on
history for being so dreadful. Thesis statement? 10. Domitian: was born October 24, 5 in Rome with
his uncle Flavius Sabinus. When Vitellius forces besieged Rome and set fire to the temple where
Domitian was hiding, he was able to escape with 1 CE on Pomegranate Street in the sixth district of
Rome, youngest son of the future emperor Vespasian (64 79 CE); his mother, Flavia Domitilla Major,
died in his youth. Unlike his much older brother, Titus, he did not share in the court education,
although many considered him bright. According to historian Suetonius, his rather degraded youth was
spent in poverty. In December of 69 CE while Vespasian was battling in the eastern provinces in an
attempt to secure the throne away from Emperor Vitellius, Domitian was a friend across the Tiber to
safety.

Diffusion And Interstitial Fluids In The Human Body
The body is composed of fluids. Those fluids are distributed between the intracellular fluid (ICF) and
extracellular fluid (ECF). The intracellular is the larger compartment composed of about 40% of the
body s fluids consisting of fluids and cells. The extracellular compartment is the smaller making up
for approximately 20% of the space. This compartment holds blood plasma, interstitial fluids, and
balances electrolytes such as sodium and chloride. The ECF can be divided up into the transcellular,
vascular, and interstitial. The transcellular is also known as third space and is fluid not ready to be

nutrients, and waste products. The interstitial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

specifically intended for calorie administration. Dextrose combined with the hypertonic solution helps
balance the fluids in the body and brings levels back to normal. Fluid volume and intracranial pressure

Analysis Of Chasing Heroine
Should this disease have gotten this far in society? The more you engage in any type of emotion or
behavior, the greater your desire for it will become. Chris Prentiss. In the documentary Chasing
Heroine that was filmed on PBS Frontline, was extremely shocking to watch. This film was filmed in
2016. It followed current and former addicts, their love ones, and advocates. This documentary
actually told the truth of certain things in regard to heroine. The light was shed on how the heroine
was brought into history, social problems, and shame, and the system. In the documentary, heroine is
nothing new, but a disease that has been brewing for a little over 30 years. Before heroine became
known for a high, it was a drug called OxyContin, that was given to everyone to take away their
problems. These pain problems consist of cancer patients and severe chronic pain. However, Purdue
Pharma seen an opportunity to provide a new prescription called Oxy to an old drug name, but gave it
an extra release long acting of pain relief. Then started advertising it on commercials for the public to
view every day. Less than 1% of patient become addicted. In 2001, Pharma sold over 1 billion dollars
with OxyContin over a year. Heroine started to go epic after OxyContin was tapered back from the
pharmacy. Heroine was also majority of the middle class to the wealthy white men and woman
population that lived in the suburban area. The pharmacy knew what they were doing, and had to pay
about 600 million in fines for their neglect to the people. This epidemic was taken to the White House,
but President Obama did not take it serious. Obama could care less about this epidemic, that he waited
1 year later to act. However, at this time the healthcare professionals could provide a bottle to every
adult in the nation. Heroine was just not hitting the adult population, but young adults tried it too. One
particular participant in the film was named Christina. She started heroine at a young age, and now
been using for years. She was high while filming the documentary. There was a phrase that stuck out
to me that she correlates with, this drug, it has a brain, and it shares mine. I can understand that this is

Video Games Effect On Human Development
In the modern era, a huge topic of controversy is video games, specifically how much and how long
people should play them, if at all. People have associated increased violence and other problems with
violent media. Science on the other hand, states that games can have a greater positive impact on
human development. Both sides present plenty of evidence to support their claims, but are video
games detrimental to people? Despite the negative view of video games that people possess, the
games do have beneficial effects on people s learning, critical thinking, social and real world skills.

Some players who play these types of games have been proven to have better surgery skills than actual
surgeons. Meanwhile, video games have also been known to teach people business skills like division
of labor, supply and demand, distribution of profits, and conservation of resources. One can easily
apply these skills to real life scenarios whether they are a CEO of a multi billion dollar company or
using division of labor when clearing out their garage with the help of their friends. Video games have
incredible benefits not just in teaching people life skills but also learning in general. In his book, Marc
Prensky suggests that, what digital technology has offered us and what game designers have adopted
and perfected is a way to understand and adapt to each learner in ways even a human teacher never
can (Prensky 90). Prensky explains his argument by connecting it to what a parent treasures most;
their child s education, in order to convey that video games can be more effective at teaching than
teachers. It is a well known fact that students learn at different paces and sometimes have trouble
learning in school because it is either too easy or too hard. Video games present the ability to learn
from the student and adjust the difficulty to fit that student s learning pace. In the same way that they
make a good recruitment tool for the military, video games disguise the parts of learning that

Gluten Hearing Loss
Gluten Free and Hearing Loss You may have heard of the term, gluten, the binding agent found in
many grains, especially wheat. Gluten acts like a glue and helps food maintain their shape. Gluten is
comprised of two main proteins, gliadin and glutenin, and can be found in grains such as durum,
barley, kamut, rye, spelt, farro, and wheat. In addition, gluten is added to all sorts of processed foods,
including pastries, cookies, condiments, ice cream, cakes, beer, as well as cereals. Due to this, it is
imperative for those who are looking to avoid gluten products, to look at the list of ingredients on
packaged foods. Nowadays, gluten is a controversial topic, with many individuals on each side of the

Classical conditioning has been around for some time in psychology. Now we are able to relate
classical conditioning to nursing practice and education. Classical conditioning can be defined as a
learning process when two stimuli are being paired together over and over. Nausea and vomiting are
common in patients experiencing chemotherapy treatment. Patients with cancer are typically exposed
to a very specific environment in the hospital. This setting would be the conditioned stimulus. The
exposure to the hospital happens before the patient receives chemotherapy, which has nausea and

post treatment nausea that chemotherapy patients experience. In order to test the hypothesis, it will
look at the relationship between the intensity of the patients conditioned nausea and the patients
experiences of nausea after 24 hours following treatment (Bovbjerg, 2006). This study sample
included 40 women who received the diagnosis of breast cancer. At the time these patients were
participating in an investigation of chemotherapy related side effects and they developed anticipatory

Rocks, Gems And Minerals
From the time I can remember I have been fascinated by Rocks, Gems and minerals. Over the years in
my spare time I learn about the different kinds; Where they are from, what they can be used for. Each
rock, mineral and gem has energy and many are used for meditation and healing I am going to start by
going over the three main groups of rocks; Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic.
Igneous Rocks come form deep within our Earth where the magma is. Magma is made from molten
gasses and minerals. When Magma erupts from a volcano it is then called Lava. The temperature of
the lava is approximately 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. Above the ground, the lava quickly cools and
hardens into new igneous rock. The new rock forms into pumice, Granite, basalt, rhyolite and
Obsidian to name a few. Sometimes Magma doe not erupt it will cool slowly underground and create
igneous rock. Before civilization the earth was a very busy place, erupting volcanoes everywhere
formed the land we live on today. These volcanoes can still be active; North America is part of the
Cascadia which lays on the pacific plate. The pacific plate is part of what we call the ring of fire a very
active region for volcanic activity and earthquakes. One thing is for sure we are always moving with
new land being formed.
Sedimentary rocks are formed by erosion. Erosion is essentially Rocks, Gravel and soil being carried
down streams and other bodies of water. As they move. They scrape against each other and get worn
down. The

Generals Die In Bed By Charles Yale Harrison
Through the soldiers experiences, the narrator shows only the dark side of human nature. Discuss.
Generals die in Bed by Charles Yale Harrison is a novel where a young Canadian soldier tells of his
first hand account of the harsh and inhumane conditions in the trenches on the Western Front during
World War 1. Through his observations and experiences the Narrator shows the effects of war on
ordinary people and how they manage in extraordinarily horrific situations. Even though the brutal
nature of the war is often reflected in the violent way that combatants act towards one another there
are also moments when compassion and mercy is shown. The novel demonstrates that in extreme
situations both the dark and the good side of human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However we also are shown bravery, companionship and acts of kindness as the soldiers struggle to
stay humane and sane in a hellish environment.
Throughout the novel they are compassionate and caring to even their enemies in their darkest
moments. They also illustrate the dark and unforgiving side of human nature. They show no pity or
mercy even while being pleaded too.
Throughout the novel the Narrator often shows compassion towards others in his actions eg. letting
the German soldier grieve for his dead brother letting him take a few letters and papers from his
brother s pockets and imagines how their mother would feel. He then helps the Germans to safety
behind the lines amp; asks that the prisoners be treated nicely.
Just like their constant companions the lice and the rats, the soldiers in the trench adapt to the hell that
they find themselves trapped in doing whatever it takes to survive. They even fight each other over
food at each others throats like hungry, snarling animals . As the novel amp; the war progresses so
does the inhumane side of the soldiers who become increasing more detached from killing,
unconcerned with the death of friends. The soldiers are conditioned, hardened up and desensitised
with self preservation becoming a key motivator. This is shown as the soldiers plunder the city of
Arras allies town and vandalize houses with no consideration of the local

Essay on Nestle Frozen Food Product Development and Marketing
Although NRFC believe estimation of pizza sales could base on Contadina pasta s 24% market
penetration rate, more conservative calculation should take different ranges of penetration rate into
consideration. By choosing three possible penetration rates of 5%. 15% and 25%, the estimated results
are demonstrated in Exhibit 1. In all three scenarios, kit only concept will not make up to company s
expectation. For kit and topping concept, only if penetration rate reach to 15%, launch decision could
be supported.

Therefore, Customers?needs of both high quality and convenience are well served. As a result,
refrigerated pizza s claimed benefit might be weaker than what refrigerated pasta could offer to
customers. In terms of pricing, although BASES research indicated that price for pasta as a factor
influencing customers?favorability was less important that other factors such as quality, it might not
be true for pizza case, because refrigerated pasta has been priced close to competing substitute while
its adding benefit of freshness has been well perceived by customers. Since take out pizza serve high
quality and convenience well, refrigerated pizza priced closely to this substitute at $7.69 for both kit
and topping might not be able to compete for existing fresh pizza market share. Moreover, its high
price premium will also reduce its attractiveness to frozen pizza buyers. Furthermore, in terms of
product development, Nestle took advantage by purchasing on going operation, Lambert s Pasta
Cheese, which already have the production technology and had the marketing experience in this

on going operation reduced the risk of product launch. However, refrigerated pizza not only faced

My First Year Of Running Track
Seventh grade, a time of adolescence, an awkward period in which we start growing from a kid to a
young adult, in which the mature person hasn t kicked in yet. A period in time to try new things and it
was my first year of running track. One reason I decided to join was because I had a passion for sports
(mostly basketball), and my best friends convinced me join the team and if I didn t I would probably
be hanging out by myself after school. Three of my best friends consisted of Dekembae but we called
him DK for short, Minkyu, and Jay. Dekembae was mixed kid who had a single braid on his head
which would often be called a turd . Minkyu was Korean, and was often made fun of by the shape of
his head which was square, and Jay who was also Korean was so short he would often get confused
for a fourth grader. Then there was me an average height kid full of baby teeth, and full of jokes.
Dating back to a cloudy, and gloomy school day in middle school I started to feel very sick. It felt as if
someone was doing jumping jacks inside my stomach, and I had a headache the size of a grapefruit.
After school I gear up to go to track practice thinking I would take it easy, however my track coach
had a different plan in mind. He announces that we are going to be walking over to Crissy field to run
from the beginning to the end of the trail, and back. Being the naive kid I am, I feel as if I could make
it there and back, not knowing the run would be almost four and a half miles long ! The

Differences Between Dual Federalism And Cooperative...
What are the differences between dual federalism and cooperative federalism? Be sure to fully address
what federalism is and why it was created. 1000 words.
Dual federalism is a term used to describe a circumstance in which national and state governments are
sovereign and equal within their constitutionally allocated spheres of authority.
Federalism is a concept that refers to a system of government in which power is shared between the
national and non national governments. Cooperative Federalism is a model of federalism in which all
governments are linked and participate in the administration of programs. Creative federalism was a
term used to describe the Great Society program of Lyndon Johnson. President Johnson sought to
devolve powers to the states using creative federalism. The devolution of responsibilities to the states
began under President Nixon but were accelerated in the 1980s under President Reagan. Ronald
Reagan s brand of new federalism dramatically decreased the use of categorical grants. Federalism
under President Obama is still in the development stage, but the 2009 Federal Stimulus Plan can best
be described as new federalism, creative, federalism, and general revenue sharing. There are four
controversial examples of federalism at work today.
A good example of federalism is usage of marijuana. Federalism, with its dual sovereignty, can create
a patchwork of conflicting laws between the states as well as between the states and federal
government.

Video Games Help Children With Special Educational Needs
This paper explains how video games help children with special educational needs, should children
have certain technologies (I.e. phones, tablets, etc.) readily available, and what children enjoy about
playing video games. [METHODS?] The findings from this research are that children s fascination in
video games, whether with typical development or not, mainly involves the thrill of challenges and the
feeling of achievement when winning. When playing video games, children do learn alternate ways to
solve problems. Children who play video games may think and learn differently than those who do not
play. Those who tend to cheat in a video games may also do the same when academics are involved. A
child s academic ethics and effort seems to reflect when playing video games. In other words, children
who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics
are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational
needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being
bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to
solve problems.
Technology s Impact on Childhood Development

The Hot Zone Movie Analysis
The book The Hot Zone and the movie Contagion are both about pandemics, with one a possible
pandemic and the other global. They are different because of how the media reacts to the prospect of a
pandemic, as well as how they contain or treat the potential outbreak. Both works showed how panic
can impact and contribute to the spread of the virus. The Hot Zone and Contagion both show the
media s reaction to a potential pandemic. In the book, the media knew nothing about the outbreak
other than being mildly aware that something had happened at a monkey house in Reston, Virginia.
USAMRIID (the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases) did
everything in their power to ensure no one ascertained the truth, since they knew it would cause panic.
Scientists used back entrances to the monkey house to avoid being photographed in racal suits. In the
movie, the media knew about contaminated people, however, it was not reported as a outbreak of a
deadly virus. The media did not anticipate the virus s impact and the associated risks. The pandemic
increased, more people died, and the media realized they had underestimated the virus. This resulted

Classifying Countries Of The Modern World
Classifying Countries of the Modern World The ocean is a vast pool with many different kinds of fish,
no fish is exactly the same. You can say the same about the countries of the world, but the best way to
put all these countries into groups is by judging whether they are developed or developing. Countries
develop at their own pace and geographers use the stage of their development to categorize them. For
example, take Japan and Ghana. Both countries are very different in almost every aspect of life, Japan
is a developed country, and Ghana is a developing country. Ghana differs from Japan in population
and its growth, as Ghana has a younger population and more difficulties in maintaining the health of
their population. Ghana also differs from Japan in its land use and agriculture by having more
subsistence farming, while Japan concentrates more on commercial farming. Developed countries,
such as Japan, have older and more stable populations than developing countries. One of the statistics
that helps define the growth of a population is the total fertility rate(TFR) which is the number of
children born per woman. Japan has a very low TFR of 1.4 births per woman which shows that Japan
s population is decreasing and will continue to decline because their TFR is well below replacement
level. The replacement level fertility rate is 2.1 births per woman and would keep a population
completely stable because it accounts for a man, a woman and a small percentage of people who don t

Analysis Of The Lottery
Since reading The Lottery by Shirely Jackson, I ve been thinking more about culture, traditions, and
perspective. Not just that, but how it can sometimes take adopting an unbiased, non judgmental, or
outside perspective in order to see things for what they really are. The way that the narrator in this
story adopts such a position allows for a clearer view of the events of the story.
In The Lottery, the narrator speaks to us in a non participant and objective manner. We hear and see
events unfold from an outside, fly on the wall , perspective. No critique or judgement on the events is
provided by the narrator; we only can ascertain judgements and feelings from what the characters do

Tradition and ritual customs hold a really powerful sway. In the story, we read about how things have
subtlety shifted overtime in the ritual, or the artifacts used during it, yet it continues on. It s an
accepted norm that no one wants to upend. This made me think about how our cultures customs have
shifted with time, but how many aspects remain unchanged. It could be for nearly anything, such as
how holidays are celebrated, or rituals like weddings, or how challenges to old norms are often viewed
with intrepidation or skepticism.
If the author would have adopted a participant point of view in this story, we probably would have
gained more insight into the rationales for holding an annual lottery to stone someone. All we can
ascertain is that the practice is an old

Leadership Skills And Practices Of Leadership Essay
1. Leadership is defined by several principles of knowledge, applied knowledge and results. Oxford
Dictionary defined leadership simply as, the action of leading a group of people or an organization .
The Coast Guard sets a great store on the concept and application of leadership skills and practices.
The service begins training the enlisted workforce leadership skills at the most basic level in boot

are elements for leadership. We place such a store on leadership the Coast Guard created the

officer workforce. The LDC created the enlisted leadership continuum which brings us the Apprentice
Leadership Program, Leadership and Management School, Chief Petty Officer s Academy, Senior
Enlisted Leadership Academy.

alongside great leaders. Ironically, some of the best lessons learned were from leaders who were the
antithesis to what I call inspired leadership . Due in large part to less than positive experiences, I
became somewhat of an authoritarian basing my perceived leadership skills to my professional power

Essay on Tay-Sachs
Tay Sachs
Abstract
Tay Sachs is a disease caused by a mutation to the gene which codes for Hex A. Without Hex A, a cell
cannot degrade GM2 ganglioside into GM3 ganglioside. This results in a build up of ganglioside s in
lysosomes of neurons. The result is varying degrees of mental deterioration. New DNA based
screening is currently being developed to replace the enzyme based screening techniques that have
been used since 1969. This will not only speed up the diagnosis, but also allow for earlier detection of
Tay Sachs by using the parents genotypes.

The Lamb and The Tyger by William Blake Essay
William Blake, a unique poet of the literary canon, is one of the most critiqued poets of all time.
Having a rather unique stylistic approach to topics, especially religion, Blake seems to contradict
himself in his own writing and, therefore, sparks questions in the readers minds on specific subjects.
Two of his poems in particular have been widely critiqued and viewed in various lights. The Tyger,
written in 1774, and The Lamb, written five years later in 1789, are considered companion poems due
to their similar humanistic topic and stark differences of each other. Through the use of specific
titillation and use of rhetorical questioning, Blake sets up an ultimatum between the two poems,
creating the illusion that each creature in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tyger, however, is part of the Songs of Experience collection, which revolves more around a
ruthless, ferocious (Northrop 380) world of experience that an adult would live in (Northrop 380).
Whereas the Songs of Innocence are relatively light and optimistic poems (Milton), the Songs of
Experience are much darker in tone and exposing the world as seen in the Songs of Innocence.
Postulated to be unique in the fact that these two collections were the most intricate of all of his
works, Blake s artistic vision is clearly shown in The Songs of Innocence and of Experience (Curran
256). Being from this volume of Blake s most complex works, The Lamb and The Tyger are
commonly thought of as companion poems because of the similarity and opposition found in the two.
Each of these poems, read in light of each other, seem to revolve around the topic of religion, as many
others found in this particular novel do. Leading to one of the central themes of the piece, it could be
considered that Blake s overlaying message in the pieces were about religion. However, despite him
being a Christian, albeit unconventional in his practice (Evans), the overlaying theme of most, if not
all poems in the volume revolve around some aspect of humanity s spectrum. Thus, despite the use of
theological logic in part of each poem, the idea of religion is explored with a more rationalistic

Essay On Lucretia
The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work in
question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the Flemish
artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death in 1540. The
painting is oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroque period. The work
depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her
rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears historical
significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the monarchy, and the

This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for
example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to
the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the female
nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that Lucretia s
nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral impunity is
perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity,
especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other
depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to
highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open,
and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the artist, this awkward
parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her abdomen adds greatly to
the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately, this compositional decision
serves to augment the paintings emotional

and prejudice within our community. This is not something people were comfortable discussing. My
school s motto is Excellence and Honor and many students are incredibly smart and high achieving.
We pride ourselves not just on our academic strength but on our honor code and ethical behavior. This
made people particularly hesitant to pop the bubble of excellence and perfection by discussing things
like racism. I d like to think that I am naturally an open minded and accepting person, but perhaps if I
hadn t been to the SDLC conference and participated in the affinity groups there, I too would have
been skeptical of the program. The introduction of something so new and unfamiliar was

The Community Health Workers Of The United States Essay
In the United States there are over seven million uninsured children where Community Health
Workers (CHWs) have been successfully contributing to the increased number of childhood insurance
enrollments. CHWs incorporated training Parent Mentors (PMs) for soliciting other parents who
would in turn educate and raise awareness to issues such as the management of asthma, provision of a
supportive home environments for early learning and interventional services, increased immunization
rates, identification of food insecurities, poisoning knowledge and safe farm working environments.
Historically, Medicaid and the Children s Health Insurance Programs (CHIPs) have provided these
services where the enrollees have had to overcome barriers to challenging, hard to negotiate
qualifications, inequities and enrollment processes. Whereby today, in combination with PM training
those deficiencies found in the Medicaid/CHIP system could be effectively overcome. As qualified
PMs reach out to the public it will be necessary to implement adequate testing measures for
performance, skill sets, adequate training, knowledge and effectiveness. The evaluations of those
contributions will directly relate to the overall healthcare of children and what impact it will have on
the overall healthcare system.

Differences Of God s Desires In Genesis And The Book Of...
In the Book of Genesis and the Book of Jonah, God reveals His desires for His people and expects
obedience. These desires involve fulfilling His plan which includes, living in community, behaving
peacefully, obeying and respecting Him, and repenting of sins. God makes His desires known, and in
turn, His people obey and disobey these desires. More specifically, examples of this arise in the stories
pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Noah as
well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God s plans and
desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where God s
desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the instances
where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they represent God s
plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis, as God has
completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it and how he
wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our
likeness (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be one with His people
and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to show that while they
are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are not associated with
God. Another

Essay on Global Warming
The Earth receives energy, light and warmth from the sun. As the earth and the objects on earth
become warm, they radiate their warmth back toward space in the form of infrared energy. However,
there are gases known as trace gases that make up less than 1% of Earth s atmosphere which are able
to trap some of the outgoing heat. Water vapor is vastly abundant in the atmosphere and generates a
blanketing effect that keeps the surface of the earth at a temperature that allows life to exist. In
addition to water vapor, carbon dioxide is another trace gas that is naturally present in the atmosphere.
It s powerful heat trapping capabilities are essential for life and in processes such as respiration and

Climate changes once occurred naturally but during this revolution we began altering our environment
through changing agricultural and industrial practices. The major fuels used at the time included coal,
oil, petroleum, and natural gas which all are carbon rich and when burned the carbon combines with
oxygen in the air producing carbon dioxide. These are commonly referred to as fossil fuels which are
composed of the fossilized remains of vegetation and animals that decayed millions of years ago. Due
to this Industrial Revolution that sparked the use of these contaminating fuels the carbon dioxide
levels in the atmosphere have increased from 280 to 365 parts per million. Before the Industrial
Revolution, human activity released very few gases in the atmosphere but now through population
growth, fossil fuel burning, and deforestation, we re affecting the mixture of gases. Fossil fuels were
formed hundreds of millions of years ago from the fossilized remains of plants and animals which are
of limited amount now. During the industrial revolution, coal burning factories contributed a
significant amount of CO2 to Earth s atmosphere where oil and natural gas were used to produce
electricity, heat homes and factories, and used for multiple forms of transportation. Power plants are
the single largest source of CO2 and each year, 7 billion tons of carbon are released which reacts with

Challenge Years: Pre and Post 2007 (merger)
Introduction:
* Sirius and XM, separate companies, began to compete in the satellite radio business in 2001 and
2002. Target market was car drivers and daily commuters who listened to their local radio stations that
they preferred, but were limited to small service areas and less range and would lose frequency once
out of that locality. Wall Street believed that satellite radio was the next opportunity in consumer
electronics.

with Sirius issuing a statement thanking him for his great vision, leadership and dedication in creating
both Sirius and the satellite radio industry. Joe Clayton, former CEO of Global Crossing, followed as
CEO from November 2001 until November 2004. Clayton stayed on as chairman until July 2008. Mel

Monument Dbq
Monuments are structures that give importance to an event, person, or place. They are designed not
only to remind people of the past, but to stir emotions in their viewer. To make them truly
monumental, monuments have many factors to consider in creation. Monuments should be well
thought out in terms of placement, motive for building, and design. In order for a monument to get a
greater value of importance the placement of the monument is crucial. The placement of a monument
is not only important because of how populated a place is but also the relation between the place and
the monument. Even the smallest consideration to detail can make a difference in the awe a monument
inspires. For example, Source G states The vietnam veterans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To pay tribute to one of Maine s most popular industries, the state commissioned a bronze sculpture of
a lobsterman kneeling down with his catch, to be displayed at the World s Fair in 1939. Unfortunately,
the sculpture didn t quite turn out as planned. The Maine Lobsterman sculpture was subject to many
hardships before finally ending up in Washington DC. (Source F) The Maine lobsterman s first
setback was when it was being created. Maine s fund for the monument ran out of money before it
was cast. As a result, the artist ended up painting bronze over plaster instead of casting the lobsterman
in bronze. After the World s Fair no one seemed to want the Lobsterman. The fake monument wasn t
valuable to anyone and so spent forty years homeless, being moved from place to place and ended up
in a warehouse until he was saved by the Camp Fire Girls and finally cast in bronze. Had the
monument been made with the proper material to begin with, perhaps it would not have had such a
neglected history. Perhaps the real problem is that monuments themselves may be an outdated
concept. The world is changing so fast that trying to memorialize someone or some group is mute
because there will always be another person or group coming after them doing something more. No
matter where, how, or why you build it, time buffers people s feelings toward the

  • 2. Disaster Preparedness Disaster Preparedness Plan A disaster is generally defined as an event in which illness or injuries surpass resource capabilities of a community or medical facility (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). Disaster preparedness is a process of ensuring that an organization has complied with the preventive measures and is in a state of readiness to contain the effects of a predicted disastrous event to minimize loss of life, injury, and damage to property. Disaster preparedness can also provide rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and other services in the aftermath of the disaster, as well as have the capability and resources to continue to sustain its essential functions without being overwhelmed by the demand placed on them. • 3. International Trade Theories Essay International Trade Theories Mercantilism Mercantilism was a sixteenth century economic philosophy that maintained that a country s wealth was measured by its holdings of gold and silver (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). This recquired the countries to maximise the difference between its exports and imports by promoting exports and discouraging imports. The logic was transparent to sixteenth century policy makers if foreigners buy more goods from you than you buy from them, then the foreigners have to pay you the difference in gold and silver, enabling you to amass more treasure. With the treasure acquired the realm could build greater armies and navies and hence expand the nation s global influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776), Smith attacked the intellectual basis of mercantilism and demonstrated that mercantilism actually weakens a country. Smith maintained that a country s true wealth is measured by the wealth of all its citizens, not just that of its monarch (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). A country is said to be more productive than another country, if it can produce more output (goods) for a given quantity of input, such as labour or energy inputs. An example is that there are only two countries, Australia and Japan. They both produce computers and wine, and only one factor of production, labour. Japan produces 6 computers for every 1 bottle of wine, where as Australia produces only 4 computers for every 3 bottles of wine. This suggests that Australia should export some of its wine to Japan, and Japan should export some of its computers to Australia. Australia has an absolute advantage over Japan, when producing wine, and Japan has an absolute advantage over Australia, when producing computers (Gandolfo, 1998). Economists use the term absolute advantage when comparing the productivity of one person, firm or nation with that of another. The producer that requires a smaller quantity of inputs to produce a good is said to have an absolute advantage in producing that good (Gans, King, Mankiw, 1999). Comparative Advantage The ... • 4. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s The Marriage Of Figaro Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed The Marriage of Figaro in 1786. For this assignment, the focus was mainly on the first act of The Marriage of Figaro. The excerpt given was divided into two main sections. First, I would like to expand on the opera as a whole. Next, I will discuss the first section given. Then, I will discuss the second. The entire opera is known as an opera buffa, which is a comedic opera. This was a very common opera genre in the classical era. The Marriage of Figaro is a perfect example of an opera buffa in a variety of ways. For instance, an opera buffa has believable characters as individuals. The characters we see have titles such as a page boy, a music master, a count, and a fiancée. These are all very common jobs or titles. There is no mention of mythical creatures or other unheard of species. This makes the opera very relatable to the audiences. The opera also deals with everyday subject ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instruments such as the violin, cello, and clarinet are being used. The accompaniment thickens greatly as well. You can hear the drastic difference. The instruments have more lines of music, and on top of that the instruments are listed in full detail, and each has their own line of music. In addition to the change of accompaniment, Mozart did a fabulous job of representing the characters through the music. When the count sings alone, the sound is very regal. This, of course, is due to his position. When Susanna sings, the accompaniment is higher, and also more rushed. This would be because of the stress this character is experiencing, and also her gender. In addition, when Susanna, the count, and the music master sing together, you can hear multiple melodies being played. The action on stage also stops. In the first section, Susanna was constantly moving. The count and the page boy both hide and caused great movement on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Liverpool s Steven Gerrard versus AS Roma s Francesco Totti Drawing comparisons between the career trajectories of Liverpool s talismanic captain Steven Gerrard and AS Roma s patriarch Francesco Totti is an inevitable prospect. Both were passionate childhood fans of their native football clubs. Both were recruited into their club academies at a very tender age. Both have risen through the ranks and established themselves as the heart and soul of their club. And both have consistently led from the front and guided their clubs to football glory. However, the strongest bond that exists between the two is their relentless, unmitigated devotion to their beloved club. The common thread that binds Totti and Gerrard together is their unique ability to stand by their clubs through thick and thin. But the past few years have been particularly painful for the aficionados of Roma and Liverpool. Totti and Gerrard have seen their club slip down their respective domestic league tables in recent years owing to the dominance of their cross country rivals. Both Roma and Liverpool have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League since the 2010 2011 and 2009 2010 seasons respectively. Their continued absence from Europe s premier football cup competition has severely tarnished their image and dented their aspirations of attracting the big name players to their clubs which their domestic rivals have been successfully able to do so. While Roma occupied a lowly 6th spot in the Italian Serie A in 2012 13, Liverpool was left languishing in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Strategies For Lifelong Additional Language Learning Essay Strategies for lifelong additional language learning The ability to evaluate whether something is worth learning is considered a meta skill (Siemens et al. 2005). This reference to meta skill is remiscient of the metacognitive processes involved in learning. Thinking about the learning process is an important aspect as it allows learners to reflect on strengths, areas of improvement and make adjustments to learning plans (Starkey, 2012). Considering the large breadth of material (vocabulary, grammar, social and cultural contexts) in learning an additional language, planning an additional language learning path is crucial to an additional language learners success (Anderson, 2002). A lifelong commitment to learning a new language does not come without the potential benefits of the strategic planning, monitoring and thinking about learning processes. Metacognitive training is associated with promoting learner autonomy and allowing students greater control over managing their studies (Kangli, 2002). Sucesss and high proficiency in learning an additional language is contingent on the learner s ability to prioritize, organize and evaluate strategies related to comprehension (Gu, 2008; Oxford, 2001; Anderson, 2002). Brown (2013) clearly defines metacognitive activity in additional language learning as three distinct stages planning for additional language learning, reflecting on the processes as they are taking place as well as monitoring the production and/or comprehension of ... Chris Prentiss. In the documentary Chasing Heroine that was filmed on PBS Frontline, was extremely shocking to watch. This film was filmed in 2016. It followed current and former addicts, their love ones, and advocates. This documentary actually told the truth of certain things in regard to heroine. The light was shed on how the heroine was brought into history, social problems, and shame, and the system. In the documentary, heroine is nothing new, but a disease that has been brewing for a little over 30 years. Before heroine became known for a high, it was a drug called OxyContin, that was given to everyone to take away their problems. These pain problems consist of cancer patients and severe chronic pain. In his book, Marc Prensky suggests that, what digital technology has offered us and what game designers have adopted and perfected is a way to understand and adapt to each learner in ways even a human teacher never can (Prensky 90). Prensky explains his argument by connecting it to what a parent treasures most; their child s education, in order to convey that video games can be more effective at teaching than teachers. It is a well known fact that students learn at different paces and sometimes have trouble learning in school because it is either too easy or too hard. • 17. Classical Conditioning Classical Conditioning in Cancer Patients Classical conditioning has been around for some time in psychology. Now we are able to relate classical conditioning to nursing practice and education. Classical conditioning can be defined as a learning process when two stimuli are being paired together over and over. Nausea and vomiting are common in patients experiencing chemotherapy treatment. Patients with cancer are typically exposed to a very specific environment in the hospital. This setting would be the conditioned stimulus. The exposure to the hospital happens before the patient receives chemotherapy, which has nausea and vomiting as side effects. This would be the unconditioned stimulus. The focus of Bovbjerg (2006) study is to look at post treatment nausea that chemotherapy patients experience. In order to test the hypothesis, it will look at the relationship between the intensity of the patients conditioned nausea and the patients experiences of nausea after 24 hours following treatment (Bovbjerg, 2006). This study sample included 40 women who received the diagnosis of breast cancer. At the time these patients were participating in an investigation of chemotherapy related side effects and they developed anticipatory nausea during their first eight cycles of outpatient chemotherapy. The participants in the study had to meet the following criteria to be included. Over the years in my spare time I learn about the different kinds; Where they are from, what they can be used for. Each rock, mineral and gem has energy and many are used for meditation and healing I am going to start by going over the three main groups of rocks; Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic. Igneous Rocks come form deep within our Earth where the magma is. Magma is made from molten gasses and minerals. When Magma erupts from a volcano it is then called Lava. The temperature of the lava is approximately 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. Above the ground, the lava quickly cools and hardens into new igneous rock. The new rock forms into pumice, Granite, basalt, rhyolite and Obsidian to name a few. Sometimes Magma doe not erupt it will cool slowly underground and create igneous rock. Before civilization the earth was a very busy place, erupting volcanoes everywhere formed the land we live on today. These volcanoes can still be active; North America is part of the Cascadia which lays on the pacific plate. The pacific plate is part of what we call the ring of fire a very active region for volcanic activity and earthquakes. One thing is for sure we are always moving with new land being formed. Sedimentary rocks are formed by erosion. Erosion is essentially Rocks, Gravel and soil being carried down streams and other bodies of water. As they move. Through his observations and experiences the Narrator shows the effects of war on ordinary people and how they manage in extraordinarily horrific situations. Be sure to fully address what federalism is and why it was created. 1000 words. Dual federalism is a term used to describe a circumstance in which national and state governments are sovereign and equal within their constitutionally allocated spheres of authority. Federalism is a concept that refers to a system of government in which power is shared between the national and non national governments. Cooperative Federalism is a model of federalism in which all governments are linked and participate in the administration of programs. Creative federalism was a term used to describe the Great Society program of Lyndon Johnson. President Johnson sought to devolve powers to the states using creative federalism. The devolution of responsibilities to the states began under President Nixon but were accelerated in the 1980s under President Reagan. Ronald Reagan s brand of new federalism dramatically decreased the use of categorical grants. Federalism under President Obama is still in the development stage, but the 2009 Federal Stimulus Plan can best be described as new federalism, creative, federalism, and general revenue sharing. There are four controversial examples of federalism at work today. A good example of federalism is usage of marijuana. In other words, children who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to solve problems. They are different because of how the media reacts to the prospect of a pandemic, as well as how they contain or treat the potential outbreak. Both works showed how panic can impact and contribute to the spread of the virus. The Hot Zone and Contagion both show the media s reaction to a potential pandemic. In the book, the media knew nothing about the outbreak other than being mildly aware that something had happened at a monkey house in Reston, Virginia. USAMRIID (the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases) did everything in their power to ensure no one ascertained the truth, since they knew it would cause panic. Scientists used back entrances to the monkey house to avoid being photographed in racal suits. In the movie, the media knew about contaminated people, however, it was not reported as a outbreak of a deadly virus. The media did not anticipate the virus s impact and the associated risks. • 32. Classifying Countries Of The Modern World Classifying Countries of the Modern World The ocean is a vast pool with many different kinds of fish, no fish is exactly the same. You can say the same about the countries of the world, but the best way to put all these countries into groups is by judging whether they are developed or developing. Countries develop at their own pace and geographers use the stage of their development to categorize them. For example, take Japan and Ghana. Both countries are very different in almost every aspect of life, Japan is a developed country, and Ghana is a developing country. Ghana differs from Japan in population and its growth, as Ghana has a younger population and more difficulties in maintaining the health of their population. Ghana also differs from Japan in its land use and agriculture by having more subsistence farming, while Japan concentrates more on commercial farming. Developed countries, such as Japan, have older and more stable populations than developing countries. One of the statistics that helps define the growth of a population is the total fertility rate(TFR) which is the number of children born per woman. Japan has a very low TFR of 1.4 births per woman which shows that Japan s population is decreasing and will continue to decline because their TFR is well below replacement level. The replacement level fertility rate is 2.1 births per woman and would keep a population completely stable because it accounts for a man, a woman and a small percentage of people who don t ... • 38. The Lamb and The Tyger by William Blake Essay William Blake, a unique poet of the literary canon, is one of the most critiqued poets of all time. Having a rather unique stylistic approach to topics, especially religion, Blake seems to contradict himself in his own writing and, therefore, sparks questions in the readers minds on specific subjects. Two of his poems in particular have been widely critiqued and viewed in various lights. The Tyger, written in 1774, and The Lamb, written five years later in 1789, are considered companion poems due to their similar humanistic topic and stark differences of each other. Through the use of specific titillation and use of rhetorical questioning, Blake sets up an ultimatum between the two poems, creating the illusion that each creature in ... The Tyger, however, is part of the Songs of Experience collection, which revolves more around a ruthless, ferocious (Northrop 380) world of experience that an adult would live in (Northrop 380). Whereas the Songs of Innocence are relatively light and optimistic poems (Milton), the Songs of Experience are much darker in tone and exposing the world as seen in the Songs of Innocence. Postulated to be unique in the fact that these two collections were the most intricate of all of his works, Blake s artistic vision is clearly shown in The Songs of Innocence and of Experience (Curran 256). Being from this volume of Blake s most complex works, The Lamb and The Tyger are commonly thought of as companion poems because of the similarity and opposition found in the two. Each of these poems, read in light of each other, seem to revolve around the topic of religion, as many others found in this particular novel do. Leading to one of the central themes of the piece, it could be considered that Blake s overlaying message in the pieces were about religion. However, despite him being a Christian, albeit unconventional in his practice (Evans), the overlaying theme of most, if not all poems in the volume revolve around some aspect of humanity s spectrum. Thus, despite the use of theological logic in part of each poem, the idea of religion is explored with a more rationalistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Essay On Lucretia The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work in question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the Flemish artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death in 1540. The painting is oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroque period. The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears historical significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the monarchy, and the transition from the Roman Kingdom to the Roman Republic, ... This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the female nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that Lucretia s nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral impunity is perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the artist, this awkward parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her abdomen adds greatly to the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately, this compositional decision serves to augment the paintings emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student Diversity At Our School When I went on stage during our weekly assembly and announced the start of affinity groups at our school, I was oblivious to the reaction of the hundreds of students in the audience. I was focused on speaking clearly and getting through my short speech, excited by what I was announcing. I didn t know that the few sentences I read off a piece of paper would change my perception of my school, my friends, and myself. Almost as soon as I got out of the assembly, before I even got to my next class, I began hearing people criticizing affinity groups. The only people who had had any experience with these groups were the people who had attended the SDLC conference, where we participated in our respective affinity groups. Soon after we announced the start of the groups, other students confronted me about the groups. Many people had an almost visceral reaction against the concept of the groups, having been taught for so long that it is wrong to single out people for their race. I understand why it was hard for people to acknowledge the need for these groups, as it meant acknowledging that our whole system had flaws; that there was still racism and prejudice within our community. This is not something people were comfortable discussing. My school s motto is Excellence and Honor and many students are incredibly smart and high achieving. We pride ourselves not just on our academic strength but on our honor code and ethical behavior. This made people particularly hesitant to pop the bubble of excellence and perfection by discussing things like racism. • 43. Differences Of God s Desires In Genesis And The Book Of... In the Book of Genesis and the Book of Jonah, God reveals His desires for His people and expects obedience. These desires involve fulfilling His plan which includes, living in community, behaving peacefully, obeying and respecting Him, and repenting of sins. God makes His desires known, and in turn, His people obey and disobey these desires. More specifically, examples of this arise in the stories pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Noah as well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God s plans and desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where God s desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the instances where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they represent God s plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis, as God has completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it and how he wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be one with His people and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to show that while they are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are not associated with God. Another ...
