The Importance Of Knowledge In Art
Knowledge lies at the foundation of everything in society. While it may not always be noticed, it is
always present. This knowledge is used in an array of processes such as creativity, experimentation,
analysis, and so much more. From process to process, or area of knowledge to area of knowledge, all
knowledge incorporates the processes of both transformation and description in order to evolve as
justifiable beliefs. Transformative knowledge includes the product of an individual s implementation
of their personal cognitive processes to challenge traditional perspectives, while descriptive
knowledge results when individuals utilize the new perspectives, allowing fresh outlooks to be
perceived. While all areas of knowledge incorporate the use of both processes, some may primarily
use one or the other. This can be seen in the areas of art and natural sciences. Knowledge in arts seems
to primarily describe the world, while knowledge in natural sciences seeks to transform it through
innovation and much more.
The area of art is popularly known for heightening emotions, challenging stereotypes, and ultimately
providing insights into how individuals view the surrounding world. The artist and the observer time
and time again see pieces in overwhelmingly different ways. Individuals may wonder why this is so.
What could possibly create such a drastic change from one perspective to another? When it comes
down to it, experiences are the answer. The artist and the observer have different

Ffa Should Not Be Allowed In Sports
Yet, for all of this success the treatment of the women s game within FIFA is appalling. They are
treated almost as if they don t exist within the organization, and it s not as if they don t try to get FIFA
s attention. In 2015, the Women s World Cup was due to be played, but before then an important issue
had arisen: it was going to be played on artificial turf. Several of the World Cup bound players
complained, but neither FIFA nor the Canadian Soccer Association would have any of it. The CSA
argued that the turf was FIFA approved and therefore suitable for playing the game, and FIFA was
silent on the matter. Furthermore, the CSA argued that the lawsuit is not valid because the majority of
their playing fields are turf. Kate Fagan, a writer

The Formations of Torandoes Essay
Tornadoes Nebraskans are no strangers to tornadoes. They are a part of the spring and summer living
in the Central Plains. We all know the damage tornadoes can create either first hand, as some can
remember being around for the 1980 tornadoes that ripped through Grand Island, or know someone
who has experienced a tornado first hand. Even though I have been living in Nebraska my entire life I
still do not understand exactly how a tornado forms or what ingredients are needed in order to make a
tornado form. In this paper that is exactly what we will look at, how a tornado is formed. We will look
at the conditions needed for tornado formation, how tornadoes are formed out of supercells, and
finally what spotters look for when chasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A supercell thunderstorm consists primarily of a single rotating updraft. Its organized internal
structure allows the storm to maintain itself for several hours (Ahrens). Figure 1 above illustrates what
the inside of a supercell thunderstorm would look like and shows the tornado produced from this
storm. As figure 1 illustrates, the counterclockwise rotating air labeled the mesocyclone is the warm,
humid air coming into the cumulonimbus cloud. The heavy rain chilled air from the mesocyclone then
descends as a strong downdraft called the forward flank downdraft. Vertical wind shear is also an
important part of the how a tornado forms. The vertical wind shear causes the air near the surface to
rotate about a horizontal axis. If the strong updraft of a developing thunderstorm should tilt the
rotating tube upward and draw into the storm, the tilted rotating tube then becomes a rotating air
column inside the storm (Ahrens). The updraft, the counterclockwise swirling precipitation, and

The Battle Of The War II
D Day On December 7, 1941, the fate of the United States of America changed forever. At the time,
the global conflict known as World War II had been brutally raging on for over two years. American
forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in
Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out. On December 7, 1941, the United
States of America entered WWII ( Origins of the Normandy Landing ). Before the Americans entered
the war, Winston Churchill and the Allies (Britain, Canada, France) were losing the war. Everything
was against them. The Germans were advancing, pushing outwards and taking more of Europe. The
German troops greatly outnumbered those of the Allies. Churchill knew that the only way to stop
Adolf Hitler and the Nazis was to gain a front in Europe and attack the Germans at home. He began to
plan a Normandy invasion. From 1939 1941, Churchill struggled to determine how he would launch
an attack that would be immense enough to stop the Germans. He got his answer when America
joined. He now had the firepower and the troops to launch an assault. ( Origins of the Normandy
Landing ) For three years, Churchill and the Allies meticulously planned the invasion. In 1944, they
had not quite finished working out the finer details of the invasion. However, the infamous assault on
Normandy, now known as D Day, was launched. ( Origins of the Normandy Landing ) Launching D

Cause And Effect Of Hydrocodone
Hydrocodone a drug used to change how your brain and your nervous system reacts to pain. When
taken the medication correctly it should relieve mood, reduction of pain. Hydrocodone was introduced
in the 1920 s from the country of Germany. Carl Mannich and Helenen Lowenheim were the first to
report it being in use in 1923( Eckenrode, S. L. (2015).Hydrocodone is a form of opiate, analgesic, it
is described as white crystals as a crystalline powder and reacts to light. This drug classified as a
schedule II drug known as a controlled substance. Hydrocodone is often always found in combination
with acetaminophen such as Vicodin and Lortab (Advokat, C. D., Comaty, J. E., Julien, R. M. 2014).
As of 2012, the United States Hydrocodone is the most used drug prescribed to treat pain. The United
States has consumed 99% of this global supply for 4.4% of the worldwide population. (Manchikanti,
L., Atluri, S., Kaye, A.M., Kaye, A.D). The US Drug and food administration approved the drug for
sale in the United States in 1943.
Mechanism of Action The Mechanism of Action in Hydrocodone is not known, but it is believed it
Opioid receptors againist the central nervous system. What we do know is that it the source of the
hydrocodone is Semisynthetic with two naturally occurring opiates, codeine, and thebaine (Eckenrode,
S. L. (2015). Neurotransmitters effected from the usage of hydrocodone is the brain neurotransmitters.
It can impair brain function to where you can t function normally without having the drug in your
system. The neurotransmitter control movement, mood, digestion, body temperature, and breathing.
Using this medicine can cause the neurotransmitters to discharge ant and faster rate. Your brain
produces its chemical to control pain and other body functions. Your mind can stop producing its
compound and start to rely on the opiates that are inside of the Hydrocodone.
Dosage, Administration, Absorption, and Metabolism
Hydrocodone is available in a variety of dosages with acetaminophen. When taken oral the dosage can
range from 5mg to 10 mg tablets. Time administration interval of every four to six hours as needed
Eckenrode, S. L. (2015). The recommended dose for chronic acetaminophen is 3000 mg/day.

Is Pen Powerful Than Sword
When we talk about how pen is mightier than sword , there is a number of reason that make a pen
more powerful than sword. This strong stationary could create , finish and ruin. Contrary to sword ,
sword is a weapon as it is used to kill or fight with someone by those who are professionalism user.
Hence , in my opinion , I strongly agree with this metaphor especially ,when we use it, pen can easily
build , ruin and change the world within short period of time but sword s ability offers the only battle
impact to our life . Moreover , It can say that the different between two things are their ability which

There still has a discussion with two things but most of people believe that the powerful of a pen is so
enormously larger than the sword. A sharp edged sword cannot complete , create , and change the
great effect as it is just a weapon which is used in a war with the power of hatred and fighting reason.
Nevertheless , what a thing that sword cannot do but the forceful pen can make it perfect. It is hard to
deny that pen could give both the bad and worth side to us. Our past and present are full of the
example to ensure that pen is better than sword , for example , many of writers have changed the
world by using their pen to write and break the barrier of the old knowledge. In conclusion , the
powerful of a pen is better than sword in any purpose since pen can create , ruin and change the world
with a second tips of the pen. However , sword offers only the bad effect to our life because the main
capability of sword is designed for killing and protection which causes lot of violence. In addition , it
can conclude that the different between a pen and sword is their ability that pen is so powerful than

Johann Sebastian Bach Impact
Johann Sebastian Bach is primarily known for being an outstanding organist and virtuosic. He was a
German composer in the baroque period. The baroque period is the time where human emotions start
to influence music and is often associated with being romantic. Bach was regarded in his time as an
extremist because he had great detail in his pieces. In his 65 years of life, he wrote over 1,000
compositions. Bach s most famous works include Toccata and Fugue in D minor, The Well Tempered
Clavier, and The Cello Suites. It is safe to say that Bach left an imprint and is still influential to music
all over the world. His pieces are still recognizable and used in numerous movies. Bach influenced
18th and 19th century composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mendelssohn. Bach has
several monuments including the one in Leipzig built in 1908 that people still frequently visit. Using
his talent and skills with music, Bach shared his love for music and began to make a name for himself.
Bach was born Eisenach, Germany, on March 31, 1685. He came from a multi generation family of
musicians. Elizabeth Lämmerhirt Bach was his mother s name and his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach,
was a church organist and taught young Bach how to play the violin. At age ten, after his mother and
father died, Johann moved to Ohrdruf, Germany and received his first lesson on the keyboard from his
brother who played the organ for St. Michaels Church. From there, Johann got a scholarship for his

King Galahor Get His Name Analysis
The year was 1275 of the Third Age when the dark sorcerer Mondain and his students slew Emperor
Vaserd Atridius and his entire line of heirs; leaving the northern empire of Budalia in shambles. Seven
warriors from each of the seven provinces of the old empire banded together and destroyed Mondain
and his vile legion. The seven warriors then divided his magic rod into seven parts, to be distributed
among them evenly so that no one person may ever claim them and cause disparity to the world ever
again. The descendents of these seven would be known as the kings of what were once the provinces
of Budalia, now separate nations who unite under a sacred pact forged by their forefathers. And so it is

Clerics and healers from all over Sosaria and the neighboring isles have come to see him, but magic
can only do so much for what ails him. His eldest heir, whom he groomed from birth to take his place,
obviously lays dead. His second eldest who marched to fight alongside his countrymen in Nostora,
Lanner, has recently been presumed missing when his encampment was raided in the night over two
months ago. This leaves poor, mild mannered Travan, the youngest of Trytas s sons. The boy has
shown little to no interest in something his older brothers so desperately competed over, preferring to
spend his days reading about magic and dead gods, hardly the typical fair for a Belawain.
Despite this, my liege would rather that his own line takes the throne in the event of his death than his
younger brother Jorvan. Though I have met the man a number of times myself, he does not strike me
as being of the same ilk as his brother. Trytas is atypical for a king, preferring to visit with his subjects
when he can and strengthening the resolve of his people. Jorvan, on the other hand, is a foppish git
who runs a backwoods town and thinks himself to be the proper heir to an entire bloody kingdom. In
truth, these traits would make for an excellent successor to any king, but not for the likes of

Women Involved In The Civil Rights Movement
Do you know any important women involved in the civil rights movement? Here are two women that
were very involved in the civil rights movement. On August 10th, 1858, Annie Julia Cooper was born,
she was actually born into slavery in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her Mother was Hannah Stanley
Haywood, she was an enslaved woman owned by George Washington. Anna had two older brothers,
Andrew and Rufus. Andrew was a slave in early years, but in later years fought in the Spanish
American War. Rufus was a slave in early years, but later he became musical group leader of Stanley s
Band. In Anna s early years she started school at the recently opened Saint Augustine s Normal School
and Collegiate Institute in Raleigh. During her many years at the school, she retained a lot of
knowledge, and became a very bright young lady. She was very good in many subjects like math,
science, and English literature. Anna s knowledge in these subjects was so well that they even let her
tutor younger students. By now her educational expenses were so high, she used the money she earned
from tutoring to help pay for the expenses. Anna did earn many scholarships, that lowered the cost of
school greatly, but she still had more to pay. She stayed teaching at the school which allowed her to be

Art Analysis Essay
The Madonna and Child with Saint Anne and an Angel is an art piece with many different art
principles and elements that are conveyed in such a manor that alludes complexity and great
importance. The picture consists of four individuals an angel, a baby, a Madonna or mother, and Saint
Anne. The baby, cradled and asleep, is being overlooked by an angel, as the angel seems to be
covering the child with a white blanket and much great care. Contrary to modern pictures, the angel
has black wings wearing normal clothes similar to that of the mother and Saint. An important
characteristic of the baby is that he has bright blonde and orange hair, a trait that resembles Jesus
Christ. The mother and Saint Anne seem to be having a very important face to face discussion. All
characters in the painting, including the child, are wearing late 15th century early 16th century
clothing (rags and clothe looking material dresses) and recognizable colors. Though the child and the
Madonna type of paintings are indeed of Jesus and his mother, the photo is able to explain that being

show the movement of the angel and the child as the angel lifts the clothe over the child, and also the
hand gestures of the Madonna and Saint as they discuss the importance of the child s birth. There is
also great harmony in the piece because of the different aspects of color and value that added to the

The purpose of Dodd Frank Act is focused on restrictions on the banking sector; repealing Dodd Frank
will enable the financial market to return to a more volatile state. Moreover, the purpose of the Volker
Rule is to prohibit banks from proprietary trading and restrict banks investments in hedge funds and
private equity funds to prevent banks from high risk trading activities. Therefore, from the lessons we
all have learned during the 2008 financial crisis, we should not reduce government regulation in the
financial sector. Instead, we should maintain our policies, continue to monitor the health of our
economy, and prevent corporate misconduct. In addition, I will recommend Mr. Sessions continue to
follow the Yates Memo to hold executive level individuals accountable for their misconduct. And I
will also support Senator Warren s proposed 21st Century Class Steagall Act of 2017. This act will
protect our economy by restricting the bank s ability to engage in high risk activities, reducing the size
of too big to fail corporations, and minimizing the probability of government bailout. As one might be

education in England is flawed and produces no useful effect. More specifically, Wilde argues that
modern education is useless since it does not contribute to social status. He writes, The whole theory
of education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect
whatsoever (Act 1). In this passage, Wilde is suggesting that education can only be afforded by the
wealthy and therefore royalty remain in power, and the poor remain uneducated. In conclusion, Wilde
s belief is that education is worthless to people of higher class since it doesn t provide any meaningful

Compare and Contrast Marr and Nishihara’s and Biederman’s...
Option 2
Compare and contrast Marr and Nishihara s and Biederman s theories of object recognition. How well
do they explain how we are able to recognize three dimensional objects despite changes in viewing
angle?
Humphreys and Bruce (1989) proposed a model of object recognition that fits a wider context of
cognition. According to them, the recognition of objects occurs in a series of stages. First, sensory
input is generated, leading to perceptual classification, where the information is compared with
previously stored descriptions of objects. Then, the object is recognized and can be semantically
classified and subsequently named. This approach is, however, over simplified. Other theories like

This description is then matched against those stored in memory. According to Biedermann, geons are
detected on the basis of non accidental properties such as collinearity, symmetry and parallelism. Like
Marr and Nishihara, Biedermann sustains that primitives are invariant under changes in viewpoint.
Similarly, both theories are supported by research. Lawson and Humphreys (1996), for example,
showed that recognition is affected more by tilt of major axis (foreshortening) than any other rotation,
which endorses Marr s and Nishihara prediction that establishing a central axis is crucial to the
process of recognition. Warrington and Taylor (1978) reported that brain damaged patients could
recognize objects presented in a typical view only. These patients found difficult to say if two
photographs presented simultaneously were the same object when one image was a typical view and
the other an unusual view. Although this could be explained as the patient s inability to transform a 2D
version of the atypical view into a 3D model, it could also be due to difficulty in establishing the
central axis or due to some features of the object being hidden. In a later study, Humphreys and
Riddoch (1984) used images where either the axis had been foreshortened through rotation or a critical
feature was hidden. They found that patients had more problems recognizing the images with a
foreshortened axis than the ones where a critical feature was hidden. Their

The factor of capital to finance still plays an important role in the development of farming systems in

the demands of managed care. To make their organization attractive to the managed care industry,
system integration strategies began to emerge such as horizontal and vertical integration (Sultz Young,
2009, p. 103).
Horizontal Integration
System integration is called horizontal when hospitals buy other hospitals to become multihospital
system (Wolper, 2011, p. 78). Horizontal integration provides many benefits to the hospitals: (a)
increased access to capital markets, (b) reduction in duplication of services, (c) economies of scale, (d)
improved productivity and operating efficiencies, (e) access to management expertise, (f) increased
personnel benefits including career mobility, recruitment, and retention, (g) improved patient access
through geographical integration or various level of care, (h) improvement in quality through
increased volume of services for specialized personnel, and (i) increased political power to deal with
planning, regulation , and reimbursement issues (Wolper, 2011, p. 79). The benefit of horizontal
integration is more on the administrative level rather than

The Silance Of Music In Alfred Hitchcock s Vrtigo
Vertigo is a 1958 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara
Bel Geddes. The film follows the acrophobic, retired San Francisco detective, John Scottie Ferguson
(Stewart) who is hired to trail his friend s wife, Madeleine (Novak), but falls in love with her in the
process. When Madeleine dies in what is deemed a suicide, John becomes depressed and begins to
obsess over Judy (Novak), who looks exactly like the Madeleine he knew. After changing Judy s
appearance to be a doppelganger of Madeleine, John comes to find out that he had actually fallen in
love with Judy pretending to be Madeleine, because she was part of a plot to murder the real
Madeleine. One aspect of the film that is interesting is the way the balance of music and dialogue add
to the suspense of the story. As stated in James Berardinelli s review of Vertigo, There are numerous,
lengthy passages that pass without dialogue (most of these occur while John is trailing Madeleine),
and Herrmann s music sustains Hitchcock s carefully crafted tone. As well as to create these
interesting scenes that rely almost entirely on visuals to tell the story, the music has an important role
of building the feeling of suspense, complete with the typical thriller crescendos used to foreshadow a
big event. This film has many technical aspects that help it stand apart from others and the musical
choices made are a clear example of this. Another aspect of this film that is fantastic is the

Are Kipi Men Better In Handling Cash Than Women
Are Kiwi Men Better in Handling Cash than Women?
Here s an interesting question. Are Kiwi men better at handling their finances than women?
A compiled research reveals that men are more likely to own a credit card with a balance amounting to
at least $10,000. The study also shows that men are less inclined to have money in the bank and are
more likely to bear personal loans. In contrast, women are more likely to own a savings account. The
only difference is that most women have a lower savings balance.
Rapid Loans, a fast response online alternative to borrowing cash, lists down five reasons why Kiwi

Lean Vs Lean Manufacturing Systems
Executive Summary Lean Manufacturing Systems were first introduced in Japan by the Toyota Motor
Corporation. The Lean movement is a type of a system that relies on simple visual cues in order to
manage production stages that are based on customer demand. The system is a is also a kind of
manufacturing that put great emphasis on the minimization of resources, time included, that is utilized
in various activities of manufacturing and provides techniques for uninterrupted quality improvement.
Although this system has gained enormous momentum and respect over the last decades, some
companies have found it difficult to use Lean Manufacturing Systems, and, as a result, the companies
have ended up failing. The concept of Lean Systems is best understood when companies familiarize
themselves with certain key insights that are utilized during the course of systems architecting. The
article provides a synopsis of the lean and is divided into four parts that will be mainly used for the
purpose of this review.
The article starts by comparing Lean Systems used in Japan compared to the ones used in the west.
The success of lean production has induced mass producers to copy many of its features, but it is not
always successful (Maier and Rechtin, 2002, p.70). The success of Japanese in using lean production
can be linked to the limitation of conversion of lean systems in other environments. In the West,

Homer Bad Man Analysis
Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and
beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of
communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass
production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the public
are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being reported on.
As media has become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have explored this idea
more frequently. Both the television series, Frontline by Rob Sitch et al and The Simpsons episode

university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:46) and Homer as a
grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is spoken about, the music is
angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic sound played when Homer is

the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching back and forward in time, and
Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise en scene and use of cinematic

Observations In Homer s Odyssey
Homer attributed author of the Odyssey is an enigma of mystery and wonder with unique tendencies.
Since Homer was born in an era of pre literacy, much speculation surrounds his birth ( Homer 6). He
was supposedly the son of Epikaste and Telemachus born around 8th to 7th century B.C. However,
this is all conjecture since his ancestry is being traced from the Odyssey. Several cities claim Homer
as their native son, yet the most compelling deduction is he was born in Ionia; the reasoning behind
this is that the dialect that The Odyssey was written in is considered Ionic Greek ( Homer 9). Whether
he even existed is considered to be a great literary mystery coined the Homeric Question ( Homer 5).
Nevertheless, he is said to be a bard

Active and Passive Transport of Molecules Through Plasma...
The movement of molecules have two forms of transport through the plasma membrane: active
transport and passive transport. Active processes require energy, such as ATP, in order for the
molecules to be transported. In active transport, the cell administers ATP.i Within passive processes no
energy is required and changes n pressure and concentration are the driving forces. Processes such as
simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and filtration are characterized as passive transport,
while solute pumps are a form of active transport. Each of these form of transports occur in the cells
of all living organisms and are essential to life.

iii Due to the fact that water can move freely in and out of most membrane pores, it is also considered
a passive process.
Filtration is the process of which both water and solutes permeate a membrane from a region of higher
fluid (hydrostatic) pressure to an area of lower fluid pressure. iv Due to the fact that filtration is based
on pressure and the size of membrane pores, it is a passive process. Within the human body filtration
occurs in the kidney and encompasses both blood and the fluid in the kidney tubule pressures.
Active transport is a process that requires ATP in order for molecules to move. There are several
reasons why active transport is required as oppose to passive transport: substances may be too large to
pass through the membrane, substances may move against the concentration gradient as oppose to
with it, or some substances may not be lipid soluble. v Amino acids and some sugars are transported
into cells by solute pumps. An example of a solute pump is a sodium potassium pump. Within a
sodium potassium pump, both K+ and Na+ are pushed into opposite regions across the cell membrane.
Other processes that require ATP are pinocytosis and phagocytosis. Both pinocytosis and phagocytosis
occurs when the cell membrane descends beneath the material in order to create a small vesicle, then
pinches off into the cell. vi Phagocytosis is the process of cell eating, and phagocytic cells work

Maple Sugaring: How to Make Your Own Maple Syrup
What is your favorite thing for breakfast? French toast? Pancakes? Do you like your steaming stack of
French toast or fluffy pancakes with maple syrup? I thought so. Using your homemade made maple
syrup will make them taste even better. So, why not go back to the basics and make you own maple
syrup. Believe me, it is worth your effort. There are three basic processes involved in maple syrup
production, taping and collection, reduction of sap, and canning or bottling. ??

The location of the tree holds great importance to sap collection. Trees in open environments such as
lawns and roadsides have large crowns due to the lack of competition from other trees and therefore
produce more sap that is often sweeter. To compare, a tree in an open setting has the capability to
produce a gallon of maple syrup in one season, but a tree located in a forest can only produce about a
quart of maple syrup in one season. The tree must you desire to tap be at least 10 inches in diameter
when measured 4.5 feet above the ground. Also, trees between 10 and 20 inches should only have one
tape, trees 20 to 25 inches can sustain two taps, and trees more than 25 inches in diameter may have
three or more taps. So, after your trees have been selected the next step is to determine when to tap
trees.
In Northeastern United States, sap begins to flow in the spring from late January to early February.
The time between mid February and March is often the most productive period of the sap collection
season. In order for sap to flow, temperatures must rise over 40° F during the day time and drop below
32° F during the nighttime. The sap will also fluctuate throughout the 4 to 6 week season. Early runs
are often light, whereas later runs are darker. So now that the site, tree, and time has been
distinguished, the tapping process can be performed.

The bargaining power of customer is likely to be high if there are few buyers chasing too many goods,
if the buyer purchases in bulk quantities, if the product is not differentiated, if buyer incur low

The bargaining power of suppliers is likely to be high when: suppliers are concentrated and well

The intensity of existing competitive rivalry is likely to be high if there are number of small or equal

The threat of new entrants is likely to be high if capital requirements to start the business are less, if
few economies of scale are in place, if customers can easily switch, if your technology is not hard to

been crimes, from a treachery to an assassination. Happens in every country you can think of, and
every government has to deal with it. It is really stressful to try to understand the nature of the crimes:
why are they done and where could they happen next. Out of this preoccupation is that we found
studies gathering data from communities; we focused on one specific crime: murders. In several
communities, it is thought that the murder rate is somehow related to several factors. For instance, it is

Now we are using the equation given at the partial F test. It is common that some times one of the
independent variables (in this case, percentage of families with income below $5000 and percentage
people unemployed) may be linearly related with another independent variable. In other words, there
may be a pair of explanatory (independent) variables that measure the same thing or that they depend
on each other, so it is recommended to drop one of them because having both causes instability in the
model. This means that the equation wouldn t be as precise as it should. This issue is called
multicollinearity. To prove if this is the case in our study, we calculated some numbers called
correlation coefficients and variance inflation factors. Basically, the rule is that if one of the
correlation coefficient between a pair of explanatory variables is higher than 0.9 there is evidence of
multicollinearity. Another criteria is that if the variance inflation factor of each explanatory variable is
higher than 10, there is a case of multicollinearity, as well. In our study, multicollinearity was not an
issue. Another issue when having more than 1 independent variable as predictors is that the presence
of one of them may affect the prediction capacity of the other. For being sure that this wasn t
happening, we proceeded to perform a stepwise procedure. In this procedure one variable is entered to
the equation at a time, and

Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper
Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related Macular Degeneration
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for people 60 years of age
and older in the developed world. Vision loss is caused by the destruction of the cone photoreceptors,
located in the macula, that are responsible for color/central vision. The underlying cause of AMD is
the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located just below the photoreceptors, known
as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main role of the RPE is to maintain the function of
the photoreceptor layer by secreting nutrients, absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during
the visual cycle. As a person ages the efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up of
toxic by products. These toxic build ups, known as drusens, result in the separation and death of the
photoreceptor and RPE layers. AMD is speculated to result from as many as 20 different genetic
mutations and as a result there is no known cure for the disease (CITE), but recent advances in stem
cell therapy is a hopeful step in the right direction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Odyssey Death and Rebirth in the Odyssey
The Odyssey, by Homer, is a classical piece of Greek literature. Throughout
The Odyssey, the Blind Bard makes use of many literary techniques in order
to lend meaning to the poem beyond its existence as a work of historic fiction
and aid his readers in the comprehension of the tale. One of these techniques
is the use of motifs. A motif is a recurring theme that is used throughout the
work. In The Odyssey, Homer makes use of many motifs including
eating/drinking, Odysseus s anger, bathing, and disguise, just to name a few.
However, perhaps the most important of Homer s motifs is the symbolic death
and rebirth theme. This motif is used throughout The Odyssey to emphasize

Cyclops, if
any mortal man ever asks you who it was that inflicted upon your eye this
shameful blinding, tell him that you were blinded by Odysseus, sacker of cities
(IX. 502 4). The symbolic rebirth of Odysseus can be emphasized by the
cave, which can be seen as a symbol of the womb, therefore making
Odysseus emergence from the cyclops s cave a true rebirth. The next
example of the death and rebirth motif is a rather obvious one that needs little
symbolic inference: Odysseus s descent into the underworld in book XI. Homer
uses many light and dark references to emphasize the death and rebirth
theme in this book darkness symbolizing death and light symbolizing life and
therefore rebirth. . . .how is it then, unhappy man, you have left the sunlight
and come here to look on dead men, and this place without pleasure? (XI.
93 4). While in the underworld, Odysseus gains insights about his eventual
return home. With this knowledge, Odysseus and his crew return to the world
of the living, symbolizing their rebirth. Again, light and dark images are used to
emphasize this rebirth. . . .where Helios, the sun, makes his uprising . . . (XII.
4). As illustrated in the preceding line, Odysseus returns from the Underworld
to the place where the sun rises the symbolism is obvious. The

Similarities Between Han China And Rome
In the first few centuries C.E., two of the largest empires ever in the world collapsed within 100 years
of each other, and in many of the same ways. Although both Rome and Han China both differed in that
Han China experienced natural disasters, while Rome did not, ultimately they are more similar
because their militaries played a large part in their downfall, both empires had problems defending
themselves, and both were ravaged by disease and food shortages.
The downfalls of Ancient Rome and Han China differed in that in Han China, the rapid population
growth in earlier Han times gradually resulted in the deforestation of large areas of land. Without trees

Malcom Crowe In The Sixth Sense
THE FANTASTIC IN FILM THE SIXTH SENSE The movie The Sixth Sense fits in the category of
fantastic because it creates a hesitation between the reality and the supernatural. At first, Dr. Malcom
Crowe looks more credible than Cole Sear because of the working class status of Malcom which
makes him more reliable as a narrator. Cole can see ghost, but maybe what he sees is an illusion
because of the fact that his dad committed suicide. In other words, he may be mentally unstable
because of this trauma which makes him less credible. In end of the movie, Malcom Crowe realised
that he was dead the whole time through subtle evidences. A viewer could have overlooked the subtle
evidences that the director has put and has already established that Dr. ... Show more content on

The small details in the movie have shown that Cole was the reliable narrator despite his unreliable
factors such as his mental state and his background. An example that shows that Malcom is indeed
dead is when his wife completely ignores him for arriving late to their anniversary s dinner. At first, it
looks like she was mad at him, but the way the table was set proves that Bruce was inexistent. If it
were for a date, it would be a table for two with all the plates and its components, but it was set for
only one person. It shows that the wife did not dine with Malcom Crowe and was alone. Another
example is while he was working at his office, somebody was ringing at his door. The wife opens the
door only a few minutes later despise that Malcom asks her several times to open the door. The man
comes in and keeps on telling her that she shouldn t stay alone . The sentence You should not stay
alone was in a figurative sense. The word alone means she is single, a widow. This piece of evidence
emphasises on why she was watching her weeding s video throughout the movie. At first, it seems the
wife was watching it because her husband didn t pay attention to her or maybe she was rethinking

Lavender Housing Research Paper
A current issue that that has affected higher education is lavender housing for first year students. This
topics has affected higher education, because a lot of students and professionals are not trans
knowledgeable, and they don t understand bigendered, cross living, gender binary system, and
dominate culture. In the state of North Carolina there are only a few schools with lavender housing,
Guilford College, Warren Wilson College, and recently Duke University. Even though, these schools
offer lavender housing, they are still segregating members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender,
Queer or Questioning, Asexual or Ally (LGBTQA) community.
Guilford College, and Warren Wilson College offer lavender housing, but it is only available ... Show

When I President of the Residence Hall Association at North Carolina Central University, there was a
student that was transitioning from a male to a female that identified as, she. She felt that she could
use the restrooms on the female floor. This was an issue because she was still identified as, he, on her
driver s license. She approached me and said Can you help me I feel, hated, mistreated, alone, and
scared , the only thing I could tell her was, I can see if we have space available for a single room with
a restroom included . That hurt me because I was in this leadership position, representing residence
life, and we didn t even have a gender neutral restroom for a soon to be transgender to take a shower
in peacefully. Unfortunately, that student moved off campus, and had to pay a housing termination fee,
and that was one less student in a room. I want to be that young student affairs professional that
anybody can talk to; I also want to make sure we have facilities on campus that cater to the LGBTQ
community. If there isn t a lavender housing LLC on campus, lets start one. We can start by putting
adapting a lavender housing floor LLC, then moving towards a lavender building that provides
knowledge about the LGBTQA culture, and people who have contributed to the

Gambling In The Gambler
Gambling and the unpredictability of the roulette wheel stand at the center of Fyodor Dostoevsky s
The Gambler. Despite the fact that it is not a very rational activity, gambling captures the enthusiasms
of many in The Gambler, enthralling those characters that are intoxicated by the feelings of victory.
Experienced gamblers often work out strategies to ensure success, or at least a greater chance of
success. Unfortunately, these types of patterns and strategies simply do not apply in games of chance
like roulette. As Jeff Love describes, there is not a fixed constant or indubitable ground permitting a
deductive determination of the results of each turn of the wheel in the game of roulette (Love 373).
Put more simply, roulette is a game of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexei argues that in roulette, there is not a strict order, [but] at least a certain pattern (40). As this
passage shows, Alexei craves control, but simply cannot have it in a game like roulette. The simple
reality is that the outcomes of roulette are completely random. There is no pattern or order, but simply
an erratic variety of different numbers. Alexei s desire to challenge Fate is highly indicative of how
badly he wants to control the truly uncontrollable (40). Just like in his relationships, Alexei cannot
steer the path of the game of roulette in the direction of his choice. Alexei s inability to control the
game of roulette is what ultimately drives him to become addicted and admit that he is a gambler
(102). Alexei s desire to discover some sort of pattern or strategy is indicative of his desperation to
prove his abilities as a gambler. Alexei cannot fathom that there is no pattern or order that will help
him understand the game better. He simply has to leave the game up to chance, which propels him to a
fairly destructive obsession with the game. Unfortunately for Alexei, the outcome of roulette is out of
his direct control, which further proves that like the roulette wheel, most parts of Alexei s life are
completely

Nathaniel Hawthorne The Effects Of Sin In Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author of The Scarlet Letter, focuses the majority of the book on sin and the
effects of sin on the protagonist s daily lives throughout the book. This standard essentially goes with
the Puritan ideals with punishment. The main protagonist, Hester Prynne, is the primary target for
these harsh effects. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the novel The Scarlet Letter to appeal to the Puritanical
ideals of this era, mainly the idea of sin because of Hester Prynne, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger
Chillingworth, the other two main protagonists of the novel, and their encounters with the
punishments they endured.
At the beginning of the book, Hester held this guilt by her sin with the scarlet letter. The letter is worn

Criminal Activity in Salinas
It is said that the national crime rate in the United States has been reducing in the last decade or so, but
we haven t seen a reduction in our own back yard. In fact it seems that the crime in Salinas has been
steadily climbing. Every time you watch the evening news you hear about a shooting or homicide that
has occurred, every time you pull out your phone you see another robbery or assault. Why are we still
plagued with gang violence and activities? What are the root problems for this increase in crime?
What are the solutions? Before we can even try to come up with solutions to reducing and preventing
crime would have to be understanding the factors behind the crimes that are plaguing Salinas
California. We all know that the main reasons for crimes are gangs, but why do we have gangs. First
of all the main reason we have gangs is because of the old gangs members that have become father
and have taught their children the gang business. A lot of the gangs we have are a younger branch of
the older gangs from the 90 s and 80 s. Poor immigrants that migrated to Los Angeles to work in the
fields fueled the epidemic of street gangs in the U.S. Children of these workers started going to school
and they began to get picked on for not being able to speak English. These children united and created
the first known street gangs in the U.S. These children united for one reason, this reason was
protection from others picking on them. They created a safe haven for all the migrate

  • 2. The Importance Of Knowledge In Art Knowledge lies at the foundation of everything in society. While it may not always be noticed, it is always present. This knowledge is used in an array of processes such as creativity, experimentation, analysis, and so much more. From process to process, or area of knowledge to area of knowledge, all knowledge incorporates the processes of both transformation and description in order to evolve as justifiable beliefs. Transformative knowledge includes the product of an individual s implementation of their personal cognitive processes to challenge traditional perspectives, while descriptive knowledge results when individuals utilize the new perspectives, allowing fresh outlooks to be perceived. While all areas of knowledge incorporate the use of both processes, some may primarily use one or the other. This can be seen in the areas of art and natural sciences. Knowledge in arts seems to primarily describe the world, while knowledge in natural sciences seeks to transform it through innovation and much more. The area of art is popularly known for heightening emotions, challenging stereotypes, and ultimately providing insights into how individuals view the surrounding world. The artist and the observer time and time again see pieces in overwhelmingly different ways. Individuals may wonder why this is so. What could possibly create such a drastic change from one perspective to another? When it comes down to it, experiences are the answer. The artist and the observer have different ... They are treated almost as if they don t exist within the organization, and it s not as if they don t try to get FIFA s attention. In 2015, the Women s World Cup was due to be played, but before then an important issue had arisen: it was going to be played on artificial turf. Several of the World Cup bound players complained, but neither FIFA nor the Canadian Soccer Association would have any of it. The CSA argued that the turf was FIFA approved and therefore suitable for playing the game, and FIFA was silent on the matter. Furthermore, the CSA argued that the lawsuit is not valid because the majority of their playing fields are turf. Kate Fagan, a writer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We all know the damage tornadoes can create either first hand, as some can remember being around for the 1980 tornadoes that ripped through Grand Island, or know someone who has experienced a tornado first hand. Even though I have been living in Nebraska my entire life I still do not understand exactly how a tornado forms or what ingredients are needed in order to make a tornado form. Figure 1. Anatomy of a supercell thunderstorm from Wicker, Crystal. Weather Wiz Kids Weather Information for Kids. Weather Wiz Kids Weather Information for Kids. Crystal Wicker, n.d. Web. 09 Feb. 2014. A supercell thunderstorm consists primarily of a single rotating updraft. Its organized internal structure allows the storm to maintain itself for several hours (Ahrens). Figure 1 above illustrates what the inside of a supercell thunderstorm would look like and shows the tornado produced from this storm. As figure 1 illustrates, the counterclockwise rotating air labeled the mesocyclone is the warm, humid air coming into the cumulonimbus cloud. The heavy rain chilled air from the mesocyclone then descends as a strong downdraft called the forward flank downdraft. Vertical wind shear is also an important part of the how a tornado forms. The vertical wind shear causes the air near the surface to rotate about a horizontal axis. If the strong updraft of a developing thunderstorm should tilt the rotating tube upward and draw into the storm, the tilted rotating tube then becomes a rotating air column inside the storm (Ahrens). The updraft, the counterclockwise swirling precipitation, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the time, the global conflict known as World War II had been brutally raging on for over two years. American forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out. The Germans were advancing, pushing outwards and taking more of Europe. The German troops greatly outnumbered those of the Allies. Churchill knew that the only way to stop Adolf Hitler and the Nazis was to gain a front in Europe and attack the Germans at home. He began to plan a Normandy invasion. From 1939 1941, Churchill struggled to determine how he would launch an attack that would be immense enough to stop the Germans. He got his answer when America joined. He now had the firepower and the troops to launch an assault. ( Origins of the Normandy Landing ) For three years, Churchill and the Allies meticulously planned the invasion. In 1944, they had not quite finished working out the finer details of the invasion. However, the infamous assault on Normandy, now known as D Day, was launched. The seven warriors then divided his magic rod into seven parts, to be distributed among them evenly so that no one person may ever claim them and cause disparity to the world ever again. This leaves poor, mild mannered Travan, the youngest of Trytas s sons. The boy has shown little to no interest in something his older brothers so desperately competed over, preferring to spend his days reading about magic and dead gods, hardly the typical fair for a Belawain. Art Analysis Essay The Madonna and Child with Saint Anne and an Angel is an art piece with many different art principles and elements that are conveyed in such a manor that alludes complexity and great importance. The picture consists of four individuals an angel, a baby, a Madonna or mother, and Saint Anne. The baby, cradled and asleep, is being overlooked by an angel, as the angel seems to be covering the child with a white blanket and much great care. Contrary to modern pictures, the angel has black wings wearing normal clothes similar to that of the mother and Saint. An important characteristic of the baby is that he has bright blonde and orange hair, a trait that resembles Jesus Christ. The mother and Saint Anne seem to be having a very important face to face discussion. All characters in the painting, including the child, are wearing late 15th century early 16th century clothing (rags and clothe looking material dresses) and recognizable colors. Therefore, from the lessons we all have learned during the 2008 financial crisis, we should not reduce government regulation in the financial sector. Instead, we should maintain our policies, continue to monitor the health of our economy, and prevent corporate misconduct. • 16. Compare and Contrast Marr and Nishihara’s and Biederman’s... Option 2 Compare and contrast Marr and Nishihara s and Biederman s theories of object recognition. How well do they explain how we are able to recognize three dimensional objects despite changes in viewing angle? Humphreys and Bruce (1989) proposed a model of object recognition that fits a wider context of cognition. According to them, the recognition of objects occurs in a series of stages. First, sensory input is generated, leading to perceptual classification, where the information is compared with previously stored descriptions of objects. Then, the object is recognized and can be semantically classified and subsequently named. This approach is, however, over simplified. Other theories like Marr and Nishihara s and Biederman s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This description is then matched against those stored in memory. According to Biedermann, geons are detected on the basis of non accidental properties such as collinearity, symmetry and parallelism. Like Marr and Nishihara, Biedermann sustains that primitives are invariant under changes in viewpoint. Similarly, both theories are supported by research. Lawson and Humphreys (1996), for example, showed that recognition is affected more by tilt of major axis (foreshortening) than any other rotation, which endorses Marr s and Nishihara prediction that establishing a central axis is crucial to the process of recognition. Warrington and Taylor (1978) reported that brain damaged patients could recognize objects presented in a typical view only. These patients found difficult to say if two photographs presented simultaneously were the same object when one image was a typical view and the other an unusual view. Although this could be explained as the patient s inability to transform a 2D version of the atypical view into a 3D model, it could also be due to difficulty in establishing the central axis or due to some features of the object being hidden. In a later study, Humphreys and Riddoch (1984) used images where either the axis had been foreshortened through rotation or a critical feature was hidden. They found that patients had more problems recognizing the images with a foreshortened axis than the ones where a critical feature was hidden. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Demand For Cost Containment The demand for cost containment, the growth of purchaser influence, the decline trend in inpatient utilization, and the demands of managed care organizations for efficiency, cost containment, coordination of services, and accountability for service outcomes has changed hospitals strategic planning. Hospitals need to reconfigure and reorganize their health service delivery in order to meet the demands of managed care. To make their organization attractive to the managed care industry, system integration strategies began to emerge such as horizontal and vertical integration (Sultz Young, 2009, p. 103). Horizontal Integration System integration is called horizontal when hospitals buy other hospitals to become multihospital system (Wolper, 2011, p. 78). Horizontal integration provides many benefits to the hospitals: (a) increased access to capital markets, (b) reduction in duplication of services, (c) economies of scale, (d) improved productivity and operating efficiencies, (e) access to management expertise, (f) increased personnel benefits including career mobility, recruitment, and retention, (g) improved patient access through geographical integration or various level of care, (h) improvement in quality through increased volume of services for specialized personnel, and (i) increased political power to deal with planning, regulation , and reimbursement issues (Wolper, 2011, p. 79). • 21. The Silance Of Music In Alfred Hitchcock s Vrtigo Vertigo is a 1958 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. The film follows the acrophobic, retired San Francisco detective, John Scottie Ferguson (Stewart) who is hired to trail his friend s wife, Madeleine (Novak), but falls in love with her in the process. When Madeleine dies in what is deemed a suicide, John becomes depressed and begins to obsess over Judy (Novak), who looks exactly like the Madeleine he knew. After changing Judy s appearance to be a doppelganger of Madeleine, John comes to find out that he had actually fallen in love with Judy pretending to be Madeleine, because she was part of a plot to murder the real Madeleine. One aspect of the film that is interesting is the way the balance of music and dialogue add to the suspense of the story. As stated in James Berardinelli s review of Vertigo, There are numerous, lengthy passages that pass without dialogue (most of these occur while John is trailing Madeleine), and Herrmann s music sustains Hitchcock s carefully crafted tone. As well as to create these interesting scenes that rely almost entirely on visuals to tell the story, the music has an important role of building the feeling of suspense, complete with the typical thriller crescendos used to foreshadow a big event. This film has many technical aspects that help it stand apart from others and the musical choices made are a clear example of this. Another aspect of this film that is fantastic is the ... The Lean movement is a type of a system that relies on simple visual cues in order to manage production stages that are based on customer demand. The system is a is also a kind of manufacturing that put great emphasis on the minimization of resources, time included, that is utilized in various activities of manufacturing and provides techniques for uninterrupted quality improvement. Although this system has gained enormous momentum and respect over the last decades, some companies have found it difficult to use Lean Manufacturing Systems, and, as a result, the companies have ended up failing. The concept of Lean Systems is best understood when companies familiarize themselves with certain key insights that are utilized during the course of systems architecting. The article provides a synopsis of the lean and is divided into four parts that will be mainly used for the purpose of this review. The article starts by comparing Lean Systems used in Japan compared to the ones used in the west. The success of lean production has induced mass producers to copy many of its features, but it is not always successful (Maier and Rechtin, 2002, p.70). The success of Japanese in using lean production can be linked to the limitation of conversion of lean systems in other environments. Since Homer was born in an era of pre literacy, much speculation surrounds his birth ( Homer 6). He was supposedly the son of Epikaste and Telemachus born around 8th to 7th century B.C. However, this is all conjecture since his ancestry is being traced from the Odyssey. Several cities claim Homer as their native son, yet the most compelling deduction is he was born in Ionia; the reasoning behind this is that the dialect that The Odyssey was written in is considered Ionic Greek ( Homer 9). Processes such as simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and filtration are characterized as passive transport, while solute pumps are a form of active transport. Within the human body filtration occurs in the kidney and encompasses both blood and the fluid in the kidney tubule pressures. There are several reasons why active transport is required as oppose to passive transport: substances may be too large to pass through the membrane, substances may move against the concentration gradient as oppose to with it, or some substances may not be lipid soluble. v Amino acids and some sugars are transported into cells by solute pumps. An example of a solute pump is a sodium potassium pump. Within a sodium potassium pump, both K+ and Na+ are pushed into opposite regions across the cell membrane. It is common that some times one of the independent variables (in this case, percentage of families with income below $5000 and percentage people unemployed) may be linearly related with another independent variable. In other words, there may be a pair of explanatory (independent) variables that measure the same thing or that they depend on each other, so it is recommended to drop one of them because having both causes instability in the model. This means that the equation wouldn t be as precise as it should. This issue is called multicollinearity. To prove if this is the case in our study, we calculated some numbers called correlation coefficients and variance inflation factors. Basically, the rule is that if one of the correlation coefficient between a pair of explanatory variables is higher than 0.9 there is evidence of multicollinearity. Another criteria is that if the variance inflation factor of each explanatory variable is higher than 10, there is a case of multicollinearity, as well. In our study, multicollinearity was not an issue. Another issue when having more than 1 independent variable as predictors is that the presence of one of them may affect the prediction capacity of the other. • 37. Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related Macular Degeneration Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for people 60 years of age and older in the developed world. Vision loss is caused by the destruction of the cone photoreceptors, located in the macula, that are responsible for color/central vision. The underlying cause of AMD is the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located just below the photoreceptors, known as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main role of the RPE is to maintain the function of the photoreceptor layer by secreting nutrients, absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during the visual cycle. As a person ages the efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up of toxic by products. These toxic build ups, known as drusens, result in the separation and death of the photoreceptor and RPE layers. The man comes in and keeps on telling her that she shouldn t stay alone . The sentence You should not stay alone was in a figurative sense. The word alone means she is single, a widow. When I President of the Residence Hall Association at North Carolina Central University, there was a student that was transitioning from a male to a female that identified as, she. She felt that she could use the restrooms on the female floor. This was an issue because she was still identified as, he, on her driver s license. She approached me and said Can you help me I feel, hated, mistreated, alone, and scared , the only thing I could tell her was, I can see if we have space available for a single room with a restroom included . That hurt me because I was in this leadership position, representing residence life, and we didn t even have a gender neutral restroom for a soon to be transgender to take a shower in peacefully. Unfortunately, that student moved off campus, and had to pay a housing termination fee, and that was one less student in a room. I want to be that young student affairs professional that anybody can talk to; I also want to make sure we have facilities on campus that cater to the LGBTQ community. If there isn t a lavender housing LLC on campus, lets start one. We can start by putting adapting a lavender housing floor LLC, then moving towards a lavender building that provides knowledge about the LGBTQA culture, and people who have contributed to the ... • 45. Gambling In The Gambler Gambling and the unpredictability of the roulette wheel stand at the center of Fyodor Dostoevsky s The Gambler. Despite the fact that it is not a very rational activity, gambling captures the enthusiasms of many in The Gambler, enthralling those characters that are intoxicated by the feelings of victory. Experienced gamblers often work out strategies to ensure success, or at least a greater chance of success. Unfortunately, these types of patterns and strategies simply do not apply in games of chance like roulette. As Jeff Love describes, there is not a fixed constant or indubitable ground permitting a deductive determination of the results of each turn of the wheel in the game of roulette (Love 373). Put more simply, roulette is a game of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexei argues that in roulette, there is not a strict order, [but] at least a certain pattern (40). As this passage shows, Alexei craves control, but simply cannot have it in a game like roulette. The simple reality is that the outcomes of roulette are completely random. There is no pattern or order, but simply an erratic variety of different numbers. Alexei s desire to challenge Fate is highly indicative of how badly he wants to control the truly uncontrollable (40). Just like in his relationships, Alexei cannot steer the path of the game of roulette in the direction of his choice. Alexei s inability to control the game of roulette is what ultimately drives him to become addicted and admit that he is a gambler (102). Alexei s desire to discover some sort of pattern or strategy is indicative of his desperation to prove his abilities as a gambler. Alexei cannot fathom that there is no pattern or order that will help him understand the game better. He simply has to leave the game up to chance, which propels him to a fairly destructive obsession with the game. Unfortunately for Alexei, the outcome of roulette is out of his direct control, which further proves that like the roulette wheel, most parts of Alexei s life are completely ... • 47. Criminal Activity in Salinas It is said that the national crime rate in the United States has been reducing in the last decade or so, but we haven t seen a reduction in our own back yard. In fact it seems that the crime in Salinas has been steadily climbing. Every time you watch the evening news you hear about a shooting or homicide that has occurred, every time you pull out your phone you see another robbery or assault. Why are we still plagued with gang violence and activities? What are the root problems for this increase in crime? What are the solutions? Before we can even try to come up with solutions to reducing and preventing crime would have to be understanding the factors behind the crimes that are plaguing Salinas California. We all know that the main reasons for crimes are gangs, but why do we have gangs. First of all the main reason we have gangs is because of the old gangs members that have become father and have taught their children the gang business. A lot of the gangs we have are a younger branch of the older gangs from the 90 s and 80 s. These children united and created the first known street gangs in the U.S. These children united for one reason, this reason was protection from others picking on them. They created a safe haven for all the migrate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
