Pinkney Gathering Research Paper
Baughan left a little while later. Bobby Lee Hollis participated in 1964 and assumed control over the
lead spot. Soon thereafter, Andrew Thrasher left and Jimmy Lewis joined the gathering. Bobby
Hendricks returned, making the gathering a quintet for a brief span, before Lewis flight. Andrew
Thrasher returned, supplanting Hollis. Hollis and Baughan were occasionally with the gathering
through the 1960s. Starting at 1968, the gathering comprised of Pinkney, Gerhart Thrasher, Hollis, and
Hendricks. Pinkney then enrolled a current gathering, the Tears, to execute as a major aspect of his

Designing A Twelve Week Support Group For Those Who Have...

Group Description
I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The
purpose of support groups is to help members cope with stressful life events and revitalize existing
coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members
involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Within such a tragedy it isn t uncommon to
let the grief transcend into a depression or isolation, but it s proven that human relationships (i.e
groups) can provide the needed support for individuals to work through their grief and heal. The issue
addressed will be moving forward after the loss of a loved one.
The group will be closed, as with such personal and delicate content it s important to create trust and
cohesion, which has a better chance of occurring if the group is closed. Cerel (2009) states that it isn t
clear if open ended group membership leads people to be re traumatized by constantly hearing stories
of violent death over and over. Growing together as a limited group can teach individuals coping
techniques and give meaningful support. Flatt (2007), states that commonly Survivors of Suicide
groups often meet anywhere from 1 ½ to 2 hours and Wesner (1999) suggest groups occur weekly.
Having this be consistent is crucial.
There are a multitude of overall goals of the group that have to do with individual and societal
perceptions of

Why Is Victor Bad
In Frankenstein victor messes up pretty bad. He created a monster and now has to pay for his choices,
he can help the monster find love or he can let his family suffer for his choices. Victor, when faced
down to it, he choices to kill the girl monster. I think that victor was wrong for destroying the girl, I
feel like he s obligated or even owes the monster for creating him and then leaving it in the wild.
When Victor made Frankenstein he was trying to experiment and discover new science. He was young
and almost crazy trying to recreate life. When Victor was younger he saw a tree get hit with lightning,
from that point all he wanted to do is something involving science. When Victor actually did it and
made Frankenstein, he didn t realize that

Lincoln Ordered A Naval Blockade Of The United States
In late April, after the beginning of hostilities at Fort Sumter, Lincoln ordered a naval blockade of the
states that has succeeded so far. Knowing that the South could not match the Union s navy, the
Secretary of the Confederacy s navy Stephen Mallory, at the time being and advocate for more armor
on ships, decided that instead of trying to match the production power of the north, they would build
ships that were superior to the North s individually. Mallory hired a group of men to help him design
the ship. They knew that due to the added armor, they would need to use the new steam engines,
recently being applied to ships. However, it took almost a year to make them and have them fitted.
Fortunately, one of men a Mallory had hired told him about a naval yard burned at the beginning of
the war, with a ship or two fitted with the engine. One of those ships was the recently re surfaced, the
CSS. Merrimack, which had sunk when the Confederacy burned a naval yard. William Williamson,
one of the men Mallory had hired to help with the construction of a armored ship, pointed out that
instead of building new engines they could use the hull of the already ready Merrimack. When
construction of the Virginia had completed, she boasted an arsenal of 14 different types of guns, along
with twenty six inches of armor composed of pine wood and iron.
After learning of the construction of the Virginia, the Union began construction on their own version
of the Ironclad, running through

It Is Stated That General Leonard Wood Never Kept Quiet
It is stated that General Leonard Wood never kept quiet in any job that he ever held during his thirty
five years of active federal service in the United States Army. When there was work to do, he has done
it, from chasing Indians all over our great Southwest back in the eighties and over a good slice of
Mexico s northwest, to teaching Cuba how to rule herself. (Sears, 1919) He was not known for sitting
back and just earning his paycheck . Instead, he chose the more challenging jobs like building new
training camps for officers and teaching preparedness to the soldiers of the late war. Through his work
ethics, candid leadership, and attitude for the betterment of mankind, he greatly impacted the lives of
millions of men throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was as Chief of Staff that General Wood made his greatest contributions to the Army and the Nation.
He strengthened the General Staff and firmly established the Chief of Staff as the senior officer of the
Army. He also reduced the influence of the old bureau system which had hindered military reforms.
He was instrumental in developing the Maneuver Division and the Mobile Army concept. As a result,
the Army formed its first truly combined arms divisions. This allowed the American Army to fight as a
force in the battles and campaigns of the Great War, WWI. (Homle, 1920) Following the war, General
Wood was chosen to be a candidate for the Republican Party for President. Although he was not
chosen, he did not get discouraged. He would retire from the Army in 1921 and receive the position of
Governor General of the Philippines. Leonard would hold that position until his death on August 7th,
1927 of an unsuccessful brain tumor surgery. Valor His gallantry and service as a medical and line
officer at the Battle of Geronimo was recognized by a Medal of Honor in 1898. Voluntarily carried
dispatches through a region infested with hostile Indians, making a journey of 70 miles in one night
and walking 30 miles the next day. Also for several weeks, while in close pursuit of Geronimo s band

Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
FACT: What I found extremely fascinating in Voltaire s work is the idea that It is demonstrable that
things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for all being created for an end, all is necessarily for the
best end (83). This quote by the character Pangloss is one of extreme optimism. He believes that they
are living in the best world possible and everything that happens is meant to be. This really resonates
with me because I do have the belief that God has an influence over our lives, so with that being said
anything that happens good or bad God had a reason for. The concept of faith is what plays a key role
in this belief; we must have faith in God and what path he paves for us whether we understand it or
not. Sometimes he gives us obstacles to overcome to make us stronger, while other times he may bring
good fortune. It may be hard at times to understand why God does what he does, but we must be able
to take a step back and have faith in God s plan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pangloss states from the beginning that we live in the best of all possible worlds (81). Which is
seemingly the furthest thing from perfect as we continue to read. Everything that happens to Candide
after being banished from the castle is a series of events that would most likely lead someone to
believe that the world is a terrible place. Misfortune seems to follow Candide and his optimistic view
of the world. He wanders for a time to the point of starvation when he is found by a group of men who
bring him back to health, but only to place him into the hands of the Bulgar military where he is to
face even more tragedy. Even through all the abuse and torture he still maintains this naïve outlook
that life is the way it s supposed to be. Why would being beaten and abused be what was meant to be
in this best of all possible

Hands: time changes Sherwood Anderson s story Hands is primarily concerned with innocence and
guilt.
Ochani Lele states A pair of hands can create, inspire, instill dreams; while those same hands can
destroy, diffuse, and install nightmares. (Lele) Through Anderson s Hands it suggest that something
innocent can be quickly distorted into something grotesque.

something in his figure, so small, white and pitiful touched their hearts and they let him escape. (1942)
That is how he ended up in Winesburg. He is

by a ghostly brand of doubts, did not think of himself as, in anyway, a part of the life of the town

Wing Biddlebaum talked a lot with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever
striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the piston
rods of his machinery of expression. (1939) Since
Wing Biddlebaum thought his hands were to blame he always hid them.

Christopher Leinberger s Chapter Summary
This chapter of the book is a good example of an impassioned appeal for human mobility. So much
that I went ahead and started reading chapter 6, just to get a feel of where walkable urbanism was
headed. Leinberger presents a case that would allow cities to encourage, allow and promotes places
for individuals to live and have accessible places to go via walking. The chapter focuses on human
well being, rather than limit infrastructure and resources to encourage automobile travel only. The
author Christopher Leinberger clarifies the origin of such an appeal and proves that it is the
unambiguous choice experienced in the 20th century. In chapter five, Leinberger argues about
demographics and money. He pointed out that the reduced prices of oil resulted to sub urbanism.
However, as the prices of oil were increased, there was an impact on the choices of people and the
locations where they want to live.

Leinberger has a great idea for what he is writing about and goes into great depth and meaning of
walkable urbanism and drivable sub urbanism. This chapter is critical to architects, sociologists and
urban planners. The author had the perspective of an advisor. Leinberger does a wonderful job in
outlining the main changes that should be implemented to have walkable urbanism as a choice. Most
readers will state that it is a good book. It tells people about the history of transition development in
American society for the last 100 years (Leinberger, 2008). It is important particularly for the pulls
and pushes leading to the demand for suburban and the walkable urban settings. One thing for certain
is that even though the book was originally written more than 10 years old, any young readers that

Paper Town Quotes
She loved mysteries so much that she became one is the most popular quote from John Green s Paper
Towns novel. In the story a spunky, outgoing teen named Margo Roth Spiegelman climbs back into
Quentin Jacobsen s life through a set of midnight heists against Margo s ex boyfriend. Although
Quentin is thrilled to have Margo back in his life, his world is turned upside down when she
mysteriously disappears the next day. Quentin and his friends embark on a series of adventures
following the clues she left in hopes of finding her. John Green brilliantly constructs this novel to
leave the readers asking, Why did Margo leave? The name of the novel, Paper Towns, in fact could be
used to explain one of the reasons Margo left Orlando. From the outside it seems that Margo has the
perfect life with numerous friends, a popular boyfriend, and a nice house. However Margo doesn t feel
like her life is as flawless as it seems. As Quentin and Margo look over the city on the night of their
heist, Margo says, It s a paper town ... I ve lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my
life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters (Green 55). ... Show more content on

Leaving town gives her a fresh start and a way to stand out among others. Margo is already different
from the stereotypical teenage girl. She believes in the use of random capitalization and often runs
away from home, but always returns within a few days. Most of the town, including Margo s parents,
believe that she is just looking for attention so they don t seem too concerned. These examples show
that she does things just to be different from others. Margo shows that she does not want to become
the same as everyone else by saying, I d get sucked right back in and I d never get out. Obviously
being just like everyone else will not suffice for Margo so she packs up her bags and makes her way to

Nathaniel Hawthorne s Gloomy And Gothic Atmosphere
Nathaniel Hawthorne s gloomy and gothic atmosphere sets the overall mood of The Scarlet Letter. The
novel invokes a sense of great anticipation in the reader, particularly through the dramatic events
surrounding the novel s protagonist, Arthur Dimmesdale. However, the way his motivations and
conflicts intertwine and mature throughout the novel allows the readers to see that he is much more
than just a sinner ultimately getting what he rightfully deserves. His persona and values also evolve
throughout the book; showing how a man who keeps the truth withheld from those who need to hear it
can lead to that man s destruction.
Arthur Dimmesdale is a reverend and along with the job comes the people, but most importantly, God.
Having this particular duty is hard to maintain and when everything in one s life depends on how one
is viewed; one can see how at the beginning of the novel Arthur is reluctant to speak of the adultery he
has committed. During the first few chapters Arthur s motivation surrounds the need to survive; he
wants to survive the punishments bestowed on Hester without anyone knowing of his guilt. As time
goes by with the truth still hidden, his conscience gets the better of him; a bloody scourge owned by
dimmsdale surfaces from the book and the idea of Dimmsdale whipping himself as punishment arises.
He constantly has his hand over his chest during the book; it is believed he has carved a letter, A over
his chest and constantly feels it ache. The

Bonobo Intelligence Animal Essay
Why do we say that Bonobo has intelligence? Similar to humans might be a partial reason why
Bonobo is classified as intelligence animal. Many evidences show that Bonobo expresses its
intelligence in the natural world. Bonobo is highly intelligence and physically similar to human
ancestor. Bonobos were discovered in the forest along the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of
Congo in 1927. They are named as the pygmy chimpanzees because of the similarities in their
physical traits with chimpanzees. A lot of people make the same mistake in recognizing Bonobo and
Chimpanzee though they have the same height. However, Bonobo come with leaner body, smaller
head and longer leg than Chimpanzee. Moreover, they physically feature as the closest primates to
human who hold almost 98.6 percent of their DNA comparing with human.(
http://www.nydailynews.com)
Specifically, learning language indicates the most stunning ability about Bonobos intelligence. Human
is regarded as the intelligence animal because we can use language which distinguishes us with others.
Language covers many combinations of words such as grammars, sentences, phrases that only human
can understand. Since I was a child, I usually thought that the world of animal had its own language
that we did not know about it. Although many species can understand what their species want to
transfer in the world of nature by using methods such as waves or signal, but none of them can deliver
it into language. But we know this:

Comparison Of Jose Mourinho And Pep Guardiola
Before we go any further, it s integral for a better understanding of the research paper that the
common element between the two books be known, or else, a critical comparison won t make sense at
all. To begin with, the most obvious ground on which to relate the two books is that both are sports
biographies that talk of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola s personalities as well as their managerial
careers, making the two somewhat similar in the sense that the focus has mainly been laid on the
individual with reference to his achievements it s not the other way around. The tone is similar, it s

He is also the author of A Season on the Brink, an insider s account of Liverpool s 2004 05 Champions

Barcelona adventures and what he did that transformed FC Barcelona from a then underachieving club
to arguably the greatest club side of all time with players such as Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol,
Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Victor Valdes and many more. Perhaps, the best part about the book is
that it rubbishes all the undermining bunkum (with facts to back it up) often impetuously spoken about
Pep Guardiola by some of the most pretentious pundits one is ever likely to come across. There is a
general tendency among fans and experts alike to deride, and even denounce Pep by handing over his
success to Lionel Messi alone, which many believe is right. However, in his book, Balagué expatiates
that it always wasn t about Messi and his excellence. Yes, the team was created around and for him,
but the ones around him were match winners themselves, players who could step up the time you
needed them the most to, and an example of that was their sextuple winning season of 2008 09 Pep s
first as Barcelona s boss. Balagué writes, Pep Guardiola touched the sky in his very first experience as
a top flight coach. They had been unforgettable months. The

usually the attention is what funds the films. If cartoons and films starting breaking down hyper
sexuality of women, such as Merida is attempting in this film, it could cause drastic change in
audience and possible decline in sales. Turning back to my original point, Merida is feminist because
she has the patriarchal idea of a weak. Merida is confident about her self and does not hesitate to take
control when she ought to, such as coming up with a plan to sneak Elinor in bear form out of the castle
or procuring food when she and her mother are in the woods. She insists on thinking for

The Roles Of Television And Minorities In Television
Minorities in Television
Maria Lopez
Minority Relations
Eleonora Hicks
October 3, 2017
Over the years television has been known to be one of the major educating and socializing institution
in America. Television in today s society is able to play a powerful key through which individuals can
be informed, hold forums, and voice their opinion s. Television is also important because it offers us
glimpses into minority life and minority figures. When sociologists examine minorities in television
they document how minorities are portrayed and how those portrayals have changed over the years.
Through time, minorities in television have been able to make moderate gains whether they are in
front of or behind cameras. However, they continue to remain significantly underrepresented as
leading actors in films, as writers, and as TV show creators. Even though minorities are significantly
underrepresented in today s society the TV industry has been pushing to give an opportunity to many
minority groups in succeeding in the media. Several TV shows and commercials have succeeded in
the TV industry to try and change how minorities are underrepresented, however, there are also shows
that reinforce stereotypes and are prejudice towards minorities.
Grey s Anatomy is a television medical drama that has been running for a little over a decade. This
show is known to have one of the most diverse cast in the history of American television. Actors

The Effects Of Heavy Metals On Tap Water
Review of Literature This review of literature presents three themes necessary to understand the
context of testing for heavy metals in tap water: the toxicology of heavy metals, their prevalence in tap
water, and potential remediation techniques.
Health Impacts of Heavy Metals in Tap Water
Research on blood lead levels (BLL) and health bolster the well established relationship between
elevated blood lead levels and physiology. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
BLL above 15µg/dL in young children can result in damage to brain, red blood cells and kidneys
(EPA, 2005). In pregnant women it can lead to significant harm to the fetus. A correlation between
lead levels and elevated urea levels, which are a marker of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the link between EBLL and health is well recognized, the link between ingestion of tap
water with elevated lead levels and EBLL is more contested. Supporting the correlation, an
epidemiological study investigating the Flint Michigan Water Crisis by Hanna Attisha et al. (2016) has
drawn a definitive link between elevated lead levels in drinking water and an increase in blood lead
levels, and an experimental study comparing the health of individuals drinking tap vs bottled water
indicated that iron, chromium and lead levels were significantly higher in tap water consumers ( Badr
et al., 2011). On the other hand, multiple studies on the BLL of residents with elevated lead in tap
water, such as those performed by the CDC in D.C. homes following statewide elevated lead water
levels, have not found a correlation between elevated lead in tap water and EBLL (Center for Disease
Control, 2004; Guidotti et al., 2007). However, these studies do not rule out lead in water as a public
health risk. In fact, the CDC advocates that all sources of lead should be weighted equally and
removed to decrease exposure (Renner, 2010). Thus, the research on the relationship between heavy
metals such as lead and copper and health

Analysis Of Ellen Degeneres s The Puppy Episode
Ellen DeGeneres got almost destroyed after her coming out to the public during her career peak. In
1994, DeGeneres reached her height of popularity as an actress with her self titled television sitcom,
Ellen, which was originally titled These Friends of Mine. This ABC show was popular in its first few
seasons due to DeGeneres s style of observational humor.
Following DeGeneres came out as a lesbian on The Oprah Winfrey Show in February 1997, her
character in Ellen became the first lead in sitcom history to openly acknowledge her homosexuality on
air. The coming out episode, titled The Puppy Episode , was one of the highest rated episode of any
show on the network during that time ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ).
However, the show faces stronger criticism and was forced to end. An ABC affiliate in Birmingham,
Alabama, refused to air the landmark episode. Fearing controversy, some of the show s sponsors,
Daimler Chrysler among them, withdrew advertisements ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ). Even though
ABC made no comment other than to confirm the cancellation officially, It was believed that The Walt
Disney Company, ABC s parent owner, had become uncomfortable with the subject matter depicted
on the show now that DeGeneres character was openly gay (Carter). Despite a supportive audience, an
Emmy Award for the coming out episode and the show s groundbreaking place in television history,
Ellen was canceled in 1998.

The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a...
The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private
property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be
compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where
public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders
the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that
legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private
property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the
judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to
successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a
look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes.
Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one
of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private
property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift
at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is
not allowed to buy some rights from Person B and Person B therefore is not allowed to

The Misconceptions Of The Vikings During The Medieval Era
During the medieval era the Vikings were known as the most brutal solider. No country or army dared
to fight against some of the smartest fighters of all time. These men were not just great fighters, they
were the leading innovators of their time when it came to creating weapons. Many kings or emperors
hired the Vikings to be the bodyguards that would protect them or to fight for them in war. These men
were not only brutal, but smart compared to the misconception that follows them around. The Vikings
are discussed more than in any solider when it comes to medieval warriors. The Vikings originated
from the three countries of Scandinavia. These three countries are Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
They are known for being home to some of the most feared warriors in history. They got their name

This time period is commonly known as the Viking Age of Scandinavian history. A Viking s most
treasured weapon was his sword. They were handed down generations because of inheritance, they
were often named and could be inscribed with writings by talented blacksmiths to magically increase
their powers. The Vikings had no professional standing army and tactics and discipline seemed to have
little to no development. They did not fight in regular formations. Aspiring warriors wanted armed
service so they fought next to famous fighters in order to be rewarded with weapons and fame of their
own. The houses the Vikings lived in were made out of wattle which is sticks. Many people believe
the Scandinavian people were big and muscular, but that was not the case. Due to the short summer
seasons, growing crops was difficult and resources were always scarce. As a result, many of the
Scandinavian people were much smaller than commonly depicted due to limited food sources. The
Vikings were a special culture compared to many others before and after

Nicolas Poussin s The Plague At Ashdod
The Plague at Ashdod is Nicolas Poussin s most frequently studied and celebrated plague paintings of
the seventeenth century. The painting represents the Old Testament story from passages in the First
Book of Samuel. According to the scriptures, the Philistines had stolen the Ark of the Covenant and
brought it to the statue of Dagon. This angered God and he plagued the citizens of Ashdod with
tumors and swarmed the territory with rats. In 1630, while Poussin worked on the painting, Italy was
stricken with the worst outbreak of the bubonic plague. This had a major influence on his depiction of
the Old Testament story. Sheila Barker s Poussin, Plague, and Early Modern Medicine offers the
beliefs surrounding Poussin s medical and spiritual knowledge of the plague. Christine Boeckl s The
Miracle of the Ark in the Temple of Dagon makes connections to literary and visual sources that
influenced Poussin s painting. The Plague at Ashdod was not just isolated to the Old Testament but
also served as an indication to a series of destructive events that were to come. ... Show more content

Even though both focused on the same artwork, each article offers a different dissertation and provides
substantial evidence to support their claim. Boeckl gives evidence of literary and visual sources of
plague iconography that Poussin adopted in his painting. She also includes references to the gestures,
attributes and motifs in the sketches for The Miracle and offers an understanding of the artists thought
process. Barker explains contemporary understanding of medicine and poetry influenced Poussin s
interpretation of the biblical plague. She gives insight that the composition was tied to the belief that it
could immunize viewers against the plague. I now respond differently to The Plague of Ashdod by
understanding how it serves as a biblical reference and a plague image based on the arguments Sheila

Brofenbrenner s Theory Of Microsystem Analysis
The two significant life events I chose to examine further are, when I met my fiancé and when I
received my GED. I chose these two events because they were the most life changing, I am a better
person for them. When I met my fiancé, I was at a horrible point in my life. When he entered my life,
he helped me get back on my feet. He was there for me when I could not depend on anyone else and I
am forever grateful to have met him. I also chose receiving my GED as another pivotal life event.
Obtaining my GED has opened the door for me to further my education and it is something I would
not have pursued if not for my fiancé s support. Passing the test was one of my biggest achievements,
and I am very proud of my score. If not for these two major life changing events, I definitely would
not be enrolled at Ashford, on my way to a Bachelor s degree.
Urie Brofenbrenner proposed a theory of five overlapping ecological systems. They focus on broad,
interconnected influences on human development, such as the interactions between individuals and
their environment (Mossler, 2013) While examining Brofenbrenner s rings influence on me meeting
my fiancé, John, I discovered how much society comes into play. The microsystems influence stems
from the fact that we were introduced by mutual friends. The exosystem s influence lies in the fact we
grew up in the same neighborhood and come from the same economic standings. This aided in John

day is something that I cherish.
In the early 1940s, Jess McMahon began promoting wrestling shows in the northeastern part of the

A Report On Ballast Water
Ballast water is used every day by thousands of ships to control trim, stability, list and the stresses of
the vessel. Ballast water is picked up in one part of the world but then can be discharged in another, in
doing this the transfer of non indigenous invasive aquatic species can occur. These species end up
destroying ecosystems that they are not originally a part of. Therefore many standards and regulations
have come about in how to exchanging ballast so as to reduce the transfer of these species. To comply
with these regulations ships and ship owners have installed onboard their vessels different types of
systems to eliminate these aquatic species. Not only do these system need to be ecofriendly but they
must also but other considerations that must be taken into account when installing a ballast system is
the size of the system and ease of installation, cost effectiveness, environmentally friendly and
effectiveness of eliminating the aquatic species. Many of the leading companies that create these
systems make them compact, easy to install and to make sure that all operational requirements are met
to help minimize ship yard time. Before the regulation about needing a ballast water treatment system
a ship could do a ballast exchange. The exchange of ballast water, in deep ocean areas or open seas,
was the first step towards limiting the transfer of invasive aquatic species in ballast water . (Anwar

Unreliable Narrator Of John Allen Poe s The Catcher Rye
Unreliable narrators are incorporated into both classic and modern literature contains narrators that are
unreliable, many of which are acclaimed over the world. Perhaps it is because they blatantly lie or
mask events from the reader. They might be unable to distinguish between reality and imagination. Or,
they are stricken with insanity. Edgar Allen Poe s character Montresor is a prime example of an
unreliable narrator. As is J. D. Salinger s Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in Rye. However, it can be
difficult to distinguish between what is a reliable narrator, and what is not.
An unreliable narrator is one who cannot be trusted to tell the story in a factual manner. Their
narration should be taken with a grain of salt. Often, the story will be told in first person, but not
always. A narrator straight up admitting to frequently lying is an immediate red flag. The reader is
now unable to trust what they say. If the narrator is inexperienced and naive, and/or is
unknowledgeable, they might not interpret situations successfully. Similarly, that might happen if their
mental health is questionable. The reader might question their reliability if there is evidence of a
skewed moral compass, their emotions run rampant, or their actions are inconsistent with their words.
Books such as the spectacular The Great Gatsby, and The Bell Jar contain an unreliable narrator. It
may be difficult to distinguish between what is unreliability and not, but through careful reading and
paying

Fundamentally, there are two ways of creating this general image. One is to describe the general
appearance of the device; the other is to compare it with something that is familiar to the reader. You
must be careful, of course, not to compare an unfamiliar thing with another unfamiliar thing.
Reference to the Score Keeper again suggests how illuminating a good analogy can be: To this
comparison might be added some such direct description as the following: It consists of a mechanism
enclosed in a rectangular metal case 1 5/16 in. long (3.3 cm), 7/8 in wide (2.2cm), and ¼ in. thick (0.6
cm) to which is attached a leather wristband. Size and shape are often the conspicuous characteristics
of a mechanism.
Organization of the Description
It is possible to divide almost every mechanism into parts. Such division is an essential part of a
detailed description. In the introduction to a description, a statement of the principal parts into which
the mechanism can be divided serves two purposes: the first is that it is an additional way, and an
important one, of giving the reader a general understanding of what the mechanism is. The second
purpose is to describe the principal parts one at a time, a list of principal parts in the order in which
you wish to discuss them is a clear indication of the organization of the remainder of the description.

The Idea Of The Labyrinth In Looking For Alaska
The Labyrinth What is a Labyrinth? The idea of a Labyrinth comes from greek mythology. The story

##arison Of Down By The Sally Gardens And The Lake Isle Of...
William Butler Yeats is considered to be one of the notable poets of Irish literature and had a major
role in Irish politics. One can notice the slow shift from the English style of romanticism to serious
political messages in his poems. A lot of his early works had a lot of motifs and imagery of nature. I
want to examine two of these poems, Down by the Sally Gardens and The Lake Isle of Innisfree, the
way these poems are designed are somewhat similar, but may have contrasting meanings and may
have different contexts.
Down by the Sally Gardens and The Lake Isle of Innisfree both are nature poems, which means, they
use natural aesthetic to describe human emotions. Both of them are early works of W.B. Yeats. These

Yeats is starting to talk more about the beauty of Ireland. He is not getting fully political, but he is
definitely more patriotic and is proud to call Innisfree his land. A bit of the poem is like an incantation.
I shall arise and go now, and go to Innisfree (1); And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles
made: Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee (2 3) While I stand on the roadway,
or on the pavements grey, (The Lake Isle of Innisfree, 11)
There is a lot of description to nature in Innisfree, like, veils of the morning , midnight s glimmer ,
noon a purple glow , a place that W.B. Yeats is mentioning in this poem. He is missing the nature, the
feeling of that place that he considers his homeland. With reference to line 11 and 12, it may be
because he is in a highly urbanized place, he wants to go back to his Innisfree where everything was
perfect and beautiful. Unlike Down by the Sally Gardens where he uses nature to describe human
emotions of struggle, in The Lake Isle of Innisfree, he believes he will be at peace over there, And I
shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, (5) This poem has a tone of an
incantation and he uses nature to romanticize the country he loves. It may also be that the poet is
giving Ireland it s own anthem. That can be shown in the last stanza of the poem, I hear it in the deep
heart s core. (12) This line sort of is like he is being called from Ireland and the Irish

Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in.
x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at
the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The
buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people
present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There
are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know
that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an
exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this
painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first
element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows,
to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used
to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are
reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in
it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can
be seen on the buildings across the street. This

Discipline In Private Schools Essay
I am choosing to focus on a problem from within my work setting. The problem that I am focusing on
is the lack of discipline in private schools. My study was completed in the private school St. Peter s. I
visited here for four hours. St. Peter s was founded by Mother Katharine Drexel in 1913 and the
school provides quality education to students of all faiths in a culturally, diverse Christian
environment. I had a conversation with the employees there and they shared with me things about both
the school and church. The educational program encourages the growth and development of Catholic
faith and values, academic excellence and civic responsibility. The staff and students also ensured to
express to me that they commit themselves to assist families in fostering the spiritual, academic,
emotional, social, and physical growth of the students. Teachers informed me that through a
curriculum rooted in gospel values, they strive to educate the students to take their places in the
church and the society of the 21st century. The school service grades Pre K though Eighth and has 18
teachers that service 212 co ed students. The question to be researched is: How is disciplined handled
with students that are enrolled in private schools.
Literature Review Private schools are not like public schools in this very important regard: students
have rights in a public school; but they do not have rights in a private school. They are governed by
what is known as contract law. That contract which you signed with the school spells out all the
obligations of the parties to that contract. Somewhere buried in the fine print will be a statement to the
effect that one of your child s obligations is to abide by the rules and regulations of the school and its
community as set forth in the school s handbook and elsewhere. According to the staff; the school
discipline policy reflects the ideals of the gospel, and helps the individual student be responsible and
accountable for his/her actions. Approved methods of correction include reminders, conferences with
parents, withholding privileges, reparation for damages, detention, suspension, or expulsion. They
made sure to mention that corporal punishment is never permitted. Discipline

  • 3. Designing A Twelve Week Support Group For Those Who Have... Alexis Strong Final Paper Terri Nelson FSW 406 May 5th, 2016 Group Description I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The purpose of support groups is to help members cope with stressful life events and revitalize existing coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Growing together as a limited group can teach individuals coping techniques and give meaningful support. Flatt (2007), states that commonly Survivors of Suicide groups often meet anywhere from 1 ½ to 2 hours and Wesner (1999) suggest groups occur weekly. Having this be consistent is crucial. • 5. Lincoln Ordered A Naval Blockade Of The United States In late April, after the beginning of hostilities at Fort Sumter, Lincoln ordered a naval blockade of the states that has succeeded so far. Knowing that the South could not match the Union s navy, the Secretary of the Confederacy s navy Stephen Mallory, at the time being and advocate for more armor on ships, decided that instead of trying to match the production power of the north, they would build ships that were superior to the North s individually. Mallory hired a group of men to help him design the ship. They knew that due to the added armor, they would need to use the new steam engines, recently being applied to ships. However, it took almost a year to make them and have them fitted. Fortunately, one of men a Mallory had hired told him about a naval yard burned at the beginning of the war, with a ship or two fitted with the engine. One of those ships was the recently re surfaced, the CSS. Merrimack, which had sunk when the Confederacy burned a naval yard. William Williamson, one of the men Mallory had hired to help with the construction of a armored ship, pointed out that instead of building new engines they could use the hull of the already ready Merrimack. When construction of the Virginia had completed, she boasted an arsenal of 14 different types of guns, along with twenty six inches of armor composed of pine wood and iron. When there was work to do, he has done it, from chasing Indians all over our great Southwest back in the eighties and over a good slice of Mexico s northwest, to teaching Cuba how to rule herself. (Sears, 1919) He was not known for sitting back and just earning his paycheck . Optimism In Voltaire s Candide FACT: What I found extremely fascinating in Voltaire s work is the idea that It is demonstrable that things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for all being created for an end, all is necessarily for the best end (83). This quote by the character Pangloss is one of extreme optimism. He believes that they are living in the best world possible and everything that happens is meant to be. This really resonates with me because I do have the belief that God has an influence over our lives, so with that being said anything that happens good or bad God had a reason for. The concept of faith is what plays a key role in this belief; we must have faith in God and what path he paves for us whether we understand it or not. Sometimes he gives us obstacles to overcome to make us stronger, while other times he may bring good fortune. It may be hard at times to understand why God does what he does, but we must be able to take a step back and have faith in God s plan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Christopher Leinberger s Chapter Summary This chapter of the book is a good example of an impassioned appeal for human mobility. So much that I went ahead and started reading chapter 6, just to get a feel of where walkable urbanism was headed. Leinberger presents a case that would allow cities to encourage, allow and promotes places for individuals to live and have accessible places to go via walking. The chapter focuses on human well being, rather than limit infrastructure and resources to encourage automobile travel only. The author Christopher Leinberger clarifies the origin of such an appeal and proves that it is the unambiguous choice experienced in the 20th century. In chapter five, Leinberger argues about demographics and money. He pointed out that the reduced prices of oil resulted to sub urbanism. The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to successfully execute this role. Professional Wrestling Is Not A Escape For Me Clara Hill Mr. Bolte English 12 CP April 7, 2017 Professional Wrestling Ever since I was five years old, professional wrestling has always been an escape for me. Growing up, I didn t have the best childhood in the world, but every Monday and Friday I would turn on Raw and Smackdown. As I became a teenager I discovered there were other wrestling promotions such as; Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. Professional wrestling still to this day is something that I cherish. In the early 1940s, Jess McMahon began promoting wrestling shows in the northeastern part of the United States. In 1982, Vincent McMahon took control of, at the time, Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Vincent transformed a small wrestling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the Attitude Era, everything was PG and suitable for all ages but around this time, parents would hate for their children to watch Raw because of the heavy reliance on sex appeal, alcohol, and cursing. During this time people like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H were extremely popular thanks to their not taking crap and kicking some butt. Even though this was a very controversial time, the fans loved it and it is still know today as the best era in wrestling. The Attitude Era was such a success for WWE that their competition, WCW and ECW, were put out of business in 2001. With the success of the promotion over the past decade and a half, WWE still has remained the biggest professional wrestling promotion in the world. Even though WWE may be the biggest wrestling promotion in the world, there are other promotions world wide that has had essentially the same popularity that WWE has. Ring of Honor has been an independent promotion since 2002, with Ring of Honor celebrating their fifteenth anniversary in March. The promotion has had several huge names to come out of it, Daniel Bryan, Low Ki, Adam Cole, The Young Bucks, CM Punk, Marty Scurll, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels, just to name a few. Ballast water is picked up in one part of the world but then can be discharged in another, in doing this the transfer of non indigenous invasive aquatic species can occur. These species end up destroying ecosystems that they are not originally a part of. Therefore many standards and regulations have come about in how to exchanging ballast so as to reduce the transfer of these species. To comply with these regulations ships and ship owners have installed onboard their vessels different types of systems to eliminate these aquatic species. Not only do these system need to be ecofriendly but they must also but other considerations that must be taken into account when installing a ballast system is the size of the system and ease of installation, cost effectiveness, environmentally friendly and effectiveness of eliminating the aquatic species. Many of the leading companies that create these systems make them compact, easy to install and to make sure that all operational requirements are met to help minimize ship yard time. Before the regulation about needing a ballast water treatment system a ship could do a ballast exchange. The exchange of ballast water, in deep ocean areas or open seas, was the first step towards limiting the transfer of invasive aquatic species in ballast water . (Anwar 11). • 31. Unreliable Narrator Of John Allen Poe s The Catcher Rye Unreliable narrators are incorporated into both classic and modern literature contains narrators that are unreliable, many of which are acclaimed over the world. Perhaps it is because they blatantly lie or mask events from the reader. They might be unable to distinguish between reality and imagination. Or, they are stricken with insanity. Edgar Allen Poe s character Montresor is a prime example of an unreliable narrator. As is J. D. Salinger s Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in Rye. However, it can be difficult to distinguish between what is a reliable narrator, and what is not. An unreliable narrator is one who cannot be trusted to tell the story in a factual manner. Their narration should be taken with a grain of salt. Often, the story will be told in first person, but not always. A narrator straight up admitting to frequently lying is an immediate red flag. The reader is now unable to trust what they say. If the narrator is inexperienced and naive, and/or is unknowledgeable, they might not interpret situations successfully. Similarly, that might happen if their mental health is questionable. The reader might question their reliability if there is evidence of a skewed moral compass, their emotions run rampant, or their actions are inconsistent with their words. Books such as the spectacular The Great Gatsby, and The Bell Jar contain an unreliable narrator. It may be difficult to distinguish between what is unreliability and not, but through careful reading and paying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fundamentally, there are two ways of creating this general image. One is to describe the general appearance of the device; the other is to compare it with something that is familiar to the reader. You must be careful, of course, not to compare an unfamiliar thing with another unfamiliar thing. Reference to the Score Keeper again suggests how illuminating a good analogy can be: To this comparison might be added some such direct description as the following: It consists of a mechanism enclosed in a rectangular metal case 1 5/16 in. long (3.3 cm), 7/8 in wide (2.2cm), and ¼ in. thick (0.6 cm) to which is attached a leather wristband. Size and shape are often the conspicuous characteristics of a mechanism. Organization of the Description It is possible to divide almost every mechanism into parts. Such division is an essential part of a detailed description. In the introduction to a description, a statement of the principal parts into which the mechanism can be divided serves two purposes: the first is that it is an additional way, and an important one, of giving the reader a general understanding of what the mechanism is. The second purpose is to describe the principal parts one at a time, a list of principal parts in the order in which you wish to discuss them is a clear indication of the organization of the remainder of the description. The musical Grease was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The director of the performance was David Symalla. Twenty four individuals composed of the entire cast. The orchestra brought the play to life and made the show even more enjoyable. The entire cast was amazing at singing. More complex dance routines could have been added to liven up the multiple dance numbers during this scene. Costumes and slang used matched the 1950s time period. The costumes looked authentic and really set the tone for the play. Slang and language throughout the play mattered the time period perfectly. A staircase that lit up to the beat of the music added a lot of interest to multiple dance numbers. Several different sets were set up during the play, and it was obvious where the characters were. The props and setting structures were constructed very well. A drag race scene did take place during the performance. The concept of preforming it seemed difficult, but the special effects and choreography worked out well. It felt like Danny and the rival gang leader were actually racing on stage. • 36. ##arison Of Down By The Sally Gardens And The Lake Isle Of... William Butler Yeats is considered to be one of the notable poets of Irish literature and had a major role in Irish politics. One can notice the slow shift from the English style of romanticism to serious political messages in his poems. A lot of his early works had a lot of motifs and imagery of nature. I want to examine two of these poems, Down by the Sally Gardens and The Lake Isle of Innisfree, the way these poems are designed are somewhat similar, but may have contrasting meanings and may have different contexts. Down by the Sally Gardens and The Lake Isle of Innisfree both are nature poems, which means, they use natural aesthetic to describe human emotions. Both of them are early works of W.B. Yeats. These poems, unlike, Easter 1916 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yeats is starting to talk more about the beauty of Ireland. He is not getting fully political, but he is definitely more patriotic and is proud to call Innisfree his land. A bit of the poem is like an incantation. I shall arise and go now, and go to Innisfree (1); And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made: Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee (2 3) While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, (The Lake Isle of Innisfree, 11) There is a lot of description to nature in Innisfree, like, veils of the morning , midnight s glimmer , noon a purple glow , a place that W.B. Yeats is mentioning in this poem. He is missing the nature, the feeling of that place that he considers his homeland. With reference to line 11 and 12, it may be because he is in a highly urbanized place, he wants to go back to his Innisfree where everything was perfect and beautiful. Unlike Down by the Sally Gardens where he uses nature to describe human emotions of struggle, in The Lake Isle of Innisfree, he believes he will be at peace over there, And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, (5) This poem has a tone of an incantation and he uses nature to romanticize the country he loves. It may also be that the poet is giving Ireland it s own anthem. That can be shown in the last stanza of the poem, I hear it in the deep heart s core. • 37. Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in. x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Discipline In Private Schools Essay I am choosing to focus on a problem from within my work setting. The problem that I am focusing on is the lack of discipline in private schools. My study was completed in the private school St. Peter s. I visited here for four hours. St. Peter s was founded by Mother Katharine Drexel in 1913 and the school provides quality education to students of all faiths in a culturally, diverse Christian environment. I had a conversation with the employees there and they shared with me things about both the school and church. The educational program encourages the growth and development of Catholic faith and values, academic excellence and civic responsibility. The staff and students also ensured to express to me that they commit themselves to assist families in fostering the spiritual, academic, emotional, social, and physical growth of the students. Teachers informed me that through a curriculum rooted in gospel values, they strive to educate the students to take their places in the church and the society of the 21st century. The school service grades Pre K though Eighth and has 18 teachers that service 212 co ed students. The question to be researched is: How is disciplined handled with students that are enrolled in private schools. Literature Review Private schools are not like public schools in this very important regard: students have rights in a public school; but they do not have rights in a private school. They are governed by what is known as contract law. That contract which you signed with the school spells out all the obligations of the parties to that contract. Somewhere buried in the fine print will be a statement to the effect that one of your child s obligations is to abide by the rules and regulations of the school and its community as set forth in the school s handbook and elsewhere. According to the staff; the school discipline policy reflects the ideals of the gospel, and helps the individual student be responsible and accountable for his/her actions. Approved methods of correction include reminders, conferences with parents, withholding privileges, reparation for damages, detention, suspension, or expulsion. They made sure to mention that corporal punishment is never permitted. Discipline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
