Self-Obsessive Nature Of The Millennial Generation
Millennials are the most intriguing generation the country of the United States has ever seen. The GI
Generation were forced to deal with the First World War where they became the Lost Generation
whose morals, including God, family, life and death, were flipped on their heads. The Greatest
Generation had the responsibility of facing Nazis and dealing with the post traumatic stress disorder.
The Baby Boomers were the post world war generations who introduced credit and were the first TV
generation. Generation X dealt with Civil Rights Movement and a rapid increase in divorce amongst
parents creating trauma for children. However, Millennials seem to deal with several issues that
previous generations of the past as well as the scrutiny of previous generations alongside threats like
terrorism and the threat of infringement on privacy or how self obsessed we are by our social media
use. However, despite things being much harder in the millennial generation, such as education, we
are viewed as weak.
The self obsessive nature of my generation comes from the use of social media and how we crave the
liking and approval of others through our pictures or posts. Since 2005 the emergence of social media
sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or VSCO has allowed this generation to share their lives in
a glorified fashion in order to gain followers and attention from likers. However, this creates an issue
for our generation as the more we glorify the events in our life the more disappointing life is. For
instance, say you go to a Washington Nationals game and you send out an amazing selfie to post for
Instagram with the caption reading, Had an amazing day with my fam!, but the question is...did you
really? Based off of most peoples posts now a days it seems like their lives are just splendid. However,
life is not as hyped up as it is on social media
which will set everyone up for disappointment. That to me is the worst issue that Millennials face is
that they try to live up to a standard of life that doesn t exist.
The other issue my generation experiences is known as the Sins of the Father. The previous
generations never dealt with their own issues so they push it on to the younger generation to fix the
issue. The

act like an anchor for the mind and this could grab people s attention. In an article by Emily Saarman

A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day
1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t
change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and
showing how it works?
1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got
stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here,
however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday,
whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived
from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then
is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main
character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning.
(Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s
eternal return?
1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be
content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the
eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words,
living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to
repeat (be reborn) as

Analysis Of The Lincoln Electric Company
Analysis of the Lincoln Electric Company
Upon review of the Lincoln Electric Company case study conducted by Arthur Sharpish of Harvard
University, I came to find that the culture within the company is what elevated Lincoln Electric above
all other companies in that field. When analyzing the report I considered many aspects of the company
in order to determine what exactly that separates Lincoln from their competition.
First, I examined the ongoing influence that has been exerted by the founders of the company. Lincoln
Electric was founded by James F. Lincoln at the turn of the 20th century. His influence in leadership
and his approach toward the customer has stood the test of time. James believed that the success of his
company lay with the customer and a motivated labor force.
It is obvious that the customer s interests, not the stockholder s, should come first. In 1947 he said,
Care should be taken ... not to rivet attention on profit. Between How much do I get? and How do I
make this better, cheaper, more useful? the difference is fundamental and decisive. (J, Lincoln)
James valued customer satisfaction above all else, which inevitably led to the innovation and
production of a great product that met the consumer s needs.
His views on employee retention continue to be a guide within the company. If fulfilling customer
needs is the desired goal of the company then employee performance and productivity are the means
by which this goal can best be achieved.

Army Organizational Life Cycle Model
Identify and Explain the Purpose and Actions of any Four Phases of the Army Organizational Life
Cycle Model The Army s Organizational Life Cycle Model contains eight phases (U.S. Army War
College, 2015 2016). This paper identifies and explains four of those phases, acquisition, training,
distribution, and deployment. The process the U.S. Army utilizes to fill the units they design with
personnel to fight and win the nation s wars, equipment to own the air and the night, money to put fuel
into the vehicles and bullets in the weapons, and facilities to house the soldiers and their families in is
the Acquisition process. The army cannot continue without new soldiers to fill its ranks or weapons
and bullets to destroy the enemy, this phase is the building block for the Army Organizational Life
Cycle Model and helps dictate training and the rest of the model forward. Noncommissioned Offices
conduct training, but without the training carried out at the entry level schools for enlisted soldiers and
officers certifying soldiers are trained in their programmed skills, the army of today would not
function (U.S. Army War College, 2015 2016). This initial training is the training phase within the
Army Organizational Life Cycle Model, and it feeds the distribution phase. The distribution phase
allocates the trained and skilled soldiers from their training phase to their units where they are needed.
This is similar to how WalmartÂŽ sends its customers the things they

Depression And Substance Abuse
The occurrence or diagnosis of depression in relation to drug use or abuse presents itself as a bi
directional relationship. Meaning the onset of one of these factors (depression or already present
substance use) creates an equal opportunity for the consequence of another factor to appear. Both
depression and substance use and dependency have the potential to co habitat each other in a
comorbid state. Symptoms occurring with depression, especially if they are left untreated, are shown
to have increased rates of drug use potential while consistent substance use and abuse can cause
depressive symptoms. In examining each condition separately and in conjunction of one another as
well as a variety of different effects caused by substance use, treatment ... Show more content on

In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its own
first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also significant to
mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems that deal with
them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse disorder (6% for
alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic diseases in the United
States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to government systems and taxpayers
as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion annually: $224 billion for alcohol
($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11 billion in health care) (Compton and
Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific
indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or craving), and [interruption of] life activities
[which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug using, and recovering from the effects of use
(Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or
other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain which can induce, pleasurable feelings and,
very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton
Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it can transition into a habit and create a dependency
on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to depression, those who suffer from substance abuse
disorders also have a variety of treatment options. These treatment options include long term and short
term residential treatments (inpatient and outpatient), individualized drug counseling, and group
counseling (NIDA, n.d). With

Iron Value Lab Report
The average female based on the RDI needs at least 18.0 mg of iron every day. I calculated and
measured based on the experiment we conducted that the Whole Grain cereal contained 21.9 mg of
iron within its flakes. Based on my measured iron value compared to the RDI value for iron, I was off
by 3.9 mg of iron. Multiple factors could have attributed to the difference between my measured value
of iron compared to the RDI iron value. One of the experimental factors that could have attributed to
the difference is how long the cereal was actually burned and how high the temperature actually was
when the sample burned. We were supposed to heat the sample for 15 minutes, but we rounded to how
long we burned the sample, we didn t burn the sample for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on how much filtrate was collected and how well it filtered could have been a factor in the
difference between the measured iron value and the RDI iron value. Another factor that could have
had an impact on the difference between measure and RDI iron value is when we measured 5mL of
2.0 M of HCl into the test tubes 1 through 5, we also measured 5mL of stock solution in test tube 5.
What could have had a factor in our results for measured iron value is how accurately we measured
5mL of test tube 5 mixture into test tube 4 of the 250.0 ppm mixture, and how accurately we measure
5mL of test tube 4 mixture to place into test tube 3 and so on. Depending on how accurate we poured
5mL of 500.0 ppm sample into test tube 4, 5mL of 250.0 ppm sample into test tube 3, 5mL of 125.0
ppm sample into test tube 2 and how well we shook up the mixture could of affected our results of our
measured iron value and made a difference in comparison between the RDI iron value. The last factor
that could have attributed to the difference between the RDI and measured iron value is when we
measured the concentration of the 7 samples using the

How Did Desmond Doss Never Change
War, war never changes. From the trenches of WWI to drones used currently, nothing truly changed.
Men fight. Men die. However, for 75+ men fighting at Hacksaw Ridge that wasn t the case. Desmond
Doss single handedly saved 75 men during one of the bloody campaigns in WWII.
According to the website dedicated to preserving the memory of what he accomplished, Doss was
born in a small town in Virginia to a Christian household. Because of this, he vowed to never take life
and to never hold grudges.
On the website, www.desmond doss.com, Doss adopted his Christian beliefs when he was growing up

Wisconsin Public Radio, he would have to lower his friends and those who thought he would die in
minutes.Even though the Japanese would never surrender, the Americans would not, either. During the
second and more successful attempt at Hacksaw Ridge, Desmond Doss saved even more, which gave
him one of 431 WWII Medals of Honor. In accordance with the Seventh Day Adventists Church s
article about Desmond Doss, during the second raid on Hacksaw Ridge, one of the people, Desmond
Doss commanding officer, Jack Glover, was shot and injured. Desmond saw him lying on the ground,
bleeding to death. Even though earlier when Jack Glover tried to get him off the squad, Desmond did
not hold a grudge against him, and saved him along with many others. In the movie adaptation of this
battle, the soldiers, after realising what Desmond Doss did, they showed him more respect for what he
did on his Sabbath. After the entire squadron waited until Desmond Doss finished praying for their
safety. He finished and they pushed the Japanese into a position of surrendering; However, one the
officers pulled a grenade on most of the American soldiers. Desmond, being a savior more than a
killer, blocked the grenade, and took most of the grenade, nearly killing him. Desmond soon
recovered, and even though he had a bad leg, he would not stop saving

Lacan And Foucault And The Gaze
The term the gaze has a general meaning that means to look at something with intent and with fixed
attention. Lacan, Fanon and Foucault all use the gaze in order to refer to various concepts. Lacan uses
the gaze in order to refer to in instance during the mirror stage in which the subject views itself in the
mirror image. The subject then enters an anxious state that comes from the awareness from knowing
that it can be viewed. Lacan argues further that the individual then loses a level of self sufficiency
upon realising that they can be viewed as a visible object (Felluga, 2015).
The gaze has been used within social psychology for the representation of gender and sexual identity
within the media. An example of this is seen when using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The awareness of being seen is a consequence of an unlocalizable mechanism in which he feels
photographed in an undesirable manner. This is exactly what Lacan describes as the gaze. Lacan states
that the gaze is everywhere and at the same time, it is nowhere (Bleeker, 2008). The gaze manifests
itself further through its effects rather than through the source. Therefore, like Fanon, the gaze cannot
be located. A difference Between Fanon s gaze and Lacanian gaze is that Lacan s gaze places
emphasis on how an individual views them self therefore it is the gaze upon one s self, where Fanon s
white gaze emphasises how we are affected by other people s gazes, most crucially how the white
gaze is used in order to impose power over black people. Fanon s gaze is also based entirely on race
and how one race grouped is viewed under the gaze of another race group, which in turn affects their
identity and subjectivity, while Lacan s gaze is based on how you view yourself, for example your

Reform Movements Dbq

the equality reforms such as abolition and women s suffrage, the majority of reforms carried out in the
early 19th century focused on a utopian society, instead of democratic ideals. Therefore, the opinion

Introduction to Oboe and Bassoon
An Introduction Oboe and Bassoon By Marie A Rogers 300005290 Woodwind Techniques 1 1010
1100 Mr. Robinson The oboe is a soprano range double reed instrument with a length of 62cm. Its
wooden tube is distinguished by a conical bore that expands into a flaring bell. The modern oboe s
range extends from the B flat below middle C (b3 flat) to about 3 octaves higher (A6). The oboe has a
very narrow conical bore. It is played with a double reed consisting of two thin blades of cane tied
together on a small metal tube called a staple, which is inserted into the reed socket at the top of the
instrument. Traditionally made from African Blackwood, also called grenadilla, the instrument is
made in 3 parts. The top joint has 10 or 11 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The modern Bassoon exists in two distinct primary forms the Buffett system and the Heckle system.
Most of the world plays the Heckle system, while the Buffett system is primarily in France, Belgium,
and parts of Latin America. Bassoon techniques The Bassoon is held diagonally in front of the player,
but unlike the flute, oboe, and clarinet, it cannot be supported by the players hands alone. Some means
of additional support is required; the most common ones used are a neck strap or shoulder harness
attached to the top of the boot joint, a seat strap attached to the base of the boot joint which is laid
across the chair seat prior to sitting down. To stabilize the right hand, many Bassoonists use an
adjustable common shaped apparatus called a crutch , which mounts to the boot joint. An aspect of
Bassoon playing technique called flicking involves the momentary pressing or flicking of the high A,
C, and D keys by the left hand thumb at the beginning of certain note in the middle octave in order to
eliminate the cracking or brief microphonic that happens without the use of the key. Bassoon Reeds
Bassoon reeds, made of Arundo donax cane, are often made by the players themselves, although
beginner bassoonists tend to buy their reeds from professional reed makers or use reeds made by their
teachers. Reeds begin with a length of tube cane that is split into three or four pieces. The cane is then
trimmed and gouged to the desired thickness,

A Comparison Of The Tanach And Bible
A Comparison of the Tanach and Bible
Each religion has a sacred text which is used to understand their worldview and their religion better. A
sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers
what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous
similarities because of the mother daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism is
the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred
text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice
such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue.
STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON
The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is
made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only
officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and
Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to
allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written
in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is
similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same.
The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. The word

These scientists scraped up volcanic ash and other debris from the land areas surrounding the ice and

How Did The Iroquois Confederacy Influence Feminism
The Iroquois Confederacy and its Influence on Feminism
Today, the feminist movement is a worldwide force, calling for rights and equality for women. It s
come a long way from its shaky beginnings, especially for American women. Many know to thank the
strong pioneers of feminism for bringing women so far leaders like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B.

ideas about the way women must be treated in a proper society were shaped. Though they are not
often acknowledged, the women of the Iroquois confederacy had a major impact on the birth of
American feminism (Oneida Indian Nation 2009). In a time where European American women were

Likewise, fair value entails the replacement and also the cost of substitutes. For instance, the fair value
of an asset is expressed as the given amount at which a specified asset is bought and sold in the
current transaction involving willing parties, other than in the process of liquidation. On the other side,
when dealing with a company s balance sheet, the fair value of liability is the state at which the
liability is likely to be incurred or settled in the agreed transaction between various willing parties. In
this case, if the fair value is available, the quoted market price in the given active market remains the
best evidence of the fair value, and it is usually expressed as the basis for the measurement. In any
active market, fair value is more liquid with small bids which makes the difference between the sell
and the product purchase prices. Fair value is different from the carrying value in that; the carrying
value is expressed as the current asset or liability value commonly based on the company s balance
sheet, while the fair value of an asset or liability is mostly expressed as the market to market value
different from the carrying value which accounts to the figures of the particular asset on the company
s balance sheet. Estimates of company s fair value are made using either the quoted market price or
using the best information available in a given circumstance (Barlev Haddad, 2013).). If the two
factors are not available,

Shakespeare s Motives In Macbeth
Motives are a part of people s everyday lives. People use motives to explain why they did something.
William Shakespeare is a well known play writer from the 1600s. Shakespeare is known for his
tragedies like Macbeth. Macbeth was written between 1606 1607 and published in the First Folio of
1623 (Bevington). Shakespeare uses motives to explain why Macbeth kills king Duncan of Scotland
and many of his loyal followers. Shakespeare wrote many motives for Macbeth to use but some of
those motives are more important than others. The main motives of Macbeth are the three witches,
ambition, and Lady Macbeth. The three witches are the main motive of Macbeth. After the battle

Once lady Macbeth found out about what the three witches told Macbeth she was determined to do
everything in her power to make sure it came true. Lady Macbeth told Macbeth he had to kill King
Duncan in order to get the crown but Macbeth did not want to kill Duncan until Lady Macbeth called
him a coward. Lady Macbeth told Macbeth that if he did not kill Duncan then he was not a man.
Shakespeare never wastes words, and least of all in Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is first introduced to us
reading the latter portion of a letter she has just received from her husband, telling her of his meeting
with the witches and of their prophesy that he is to be king. The letter, and Lady Macbeth s soliloquy
which follows, describe Macbeth s character and interpret her own. They show us many things that
Lady Macbeth is the source of his mental strength and resolution, that they have talked over the
situation of affairs in the kingdom, with all its possibilities, both those which may be depended upon
to come unaided and those which may be forced to an issue (Gerwig). Lady Macbeth is the
mastermind behind the killing of
King Duncan she gets into Macbeth s head and convinces him the killing Duncan is the only way to
fulfil the prophecy from the witches. Lady Macbeth goes on to say that if Macbeth does not kill
Duncan then he is not a true man. Lady Macbeth pushed Macbeth into killing king Duncan she was
the final push

Interpretation And Comparison Of Online Digital Objects

Delwyn Johns
Assessment One: Interpretation and comparison of online digital objects.
*PLEASE NOTE: As I was unable to find both of these scenes by themselves online, I have
transcribed where they occur in their larger bodies and have attached screenshots that directly relate to
my points.
OBJECT ONE: Projector Scene from the episode Hush, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, occurring
approximately 27 minutes in.
I have chosen to scrutinize this particular scene as its complete lack of dialogue allows us to closely
examine how non verbal communication is used to convey meaning. Nonverbal communication
between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues (Stephen W.
Littlejohn 2009). When we consider that Individuals are believed to use clothing to define and
communicate their social identities to others (Fienberg 1992), we can attach a wealth of information to
the onscreen characters simply from observing their costumes. Giles blazer allows him to be viewed
as authoritative and mature; Buffy s fashionable outfit is synonymous with her popular status, whilst
Xander s sports Guernsey and sneakers underpin his casual, outgoing persona. The director of the
show uses the
style, branding, colour and fashionability of the clothing as a tool for the audience to
assess their personality traits (Chalky et al, 2012).
Non verbal communication within this scene also manifests itself via kinetic transmission; that is,
posture, eye contact and the

Immigration Process Essay
Millions of people have the desire to become citizens of the United States, but never consider working
with the department of US citizenship and immigration services. A lack of proper understanding can
keep you and your family from becoming citizens, so it is important to educate yourself. With this
guide, you will understand the truth behind these common myths regarding immigration.
The Process Is Expensive
The cost of filing your application for citizenship may seem shocking, but it is actually a smart
investment to show you are sincere. In addition, the filing fee is a great deal less than paying every 10
years to renew your green card.
Invest in your future up front and you will understand that the process is not really expensive.

Unfortunately, these tests can be frightening to some individuals, especially for those who do not
speak English well. However, the tests do not have to be overwhelming, since you will have a good
amount of time to prepare.
There are many free resources available that can help you understand your English language and
civics tests. Most people will pass the citizenship tests on their first try, but you will be able to take the
test again if necessary.
The Process Is Not Worth It In many cases, you are already living as a permanent resident of the
United States. This allows you to live and work in the United States legally. Unfortunately, being a
permanent resident does not offer you the same benefits as being an actual citizen. Putting in the effort
to become a citizen of the United States may actually be worth the process for you and your family.
If you invest the time and energy into receiving your citizenship, you can rest easy in knowing you
will not be deported or lose your status as a citizen. You will be able o vote in elections and travel in
and out of the United States without any serious complications. Lastly, your family will be given
priority if they decide to immigrate to America.
Considering these enormous benefits, investing in becoming a citizen is definitely worth the process.

Disadvantages of participatory monitoring (Ancrenaz et al. 2012):
It requires time to initiate a strong capacity building process over a long and continuous period of time
As monitoring is difficult to standardize completely, participatory monitoring is often less accurate
and results can be difficult to compare. Fortunately, camera trapping is can be standardized more
easily than many other monitoring methods. Pragmatically, local communities need to be involved at

Some crucial factors that will determine the success or failure of a monitoring program will include

Botulinum Toxin Lab Report
The botulinum toxin enters the body via the oral route in a complex enclosed by auxiliary proteins to
prevent metabolism of the toxin by endoproteases. The auxiliary proteins contain hemagglutinin (HA)
and a non toxic non hemagglutinin (NTNH) component which make up approximately 900kDa and
ensure the toxin enters the gut without being lysed by the present enzymes. The botulinum toxin in the
gut now has to enter the vascular system and does this via the process known as endocytosis and
undergoes a further process (transcytosis) to move it into the vasculature. The botulinum toxin acts on
neuron endings i.e. the neuromuscular junction and therefore needs to leave the vascular system.

toxin A and E cleave a bond in SNAP 25, but A cleaves the peptide bond between Gln197 Arg198
whilst E cleaves Arg180 Ile181. Only one peptide bond in the SNARE protein is cleaved by the
catalytic domain of the light chain, even though there may be more occurrences of the same bond
within the structure. The reason for this was speculated to be due to structural differences between the
serotypes and that the binding domain of each may be in a different position so that when the toxin
binds to its substrate it changes its orientation to cleave the peptide bond that is ideal in
correspondence with the change in orientation. The effect of the peptide bond cleavage is revealed
once an action potential reaches the neuron. An action potential at the neuron depolarises the
membrane and this causes an influx of Ca2+ ions in the axon. The formation of a neurotransmitter
occurs when acetyl CoA and choline react to produce acetylcholine in a process catalysed by the
enzyme choline acetyltransferase. The calcium ions stimulate neurotransmitter release and thus
acetylcholine molecules want to leave the cell via

Analysis Of A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Everyone can be a little greedy sometimes, even if people usually tend to save money, or bargon. In a
short story by Kate Chopin called A Pair of Silk Stockings, the main character named Mrs Sommer s
is given 15$, and was suppose to spend the money on her children for clothes, but instead spended it
on herself for a pair of silk stockings. Mrs. Sommer s catches herself looking at a pair of silk stocking
s while out shopping, and is suppose to be getting clothes and such for her children. But what really
happens is she lets her temptation get the best of her, and she ends up buying the socks for herself
instead. Once she gets the socks she then wants more and more and even go out to a fancy restaurant,
some boots, and even theatre tickets. But once she leaves the theatre, it then hit her that she has to go
home to her children in which she did not get them the things she promised them. A dominant theme
that Kate Chopin develops in the story focuses around thoughts and conditions of the past. She shows
in the story that Mrs. Sommer s has a normal daily routine, and a boring lifestyle. The day she saw the
silk stockings, she focused on only herself when usually she always cares for her children. Throughout
the short story, A Pair of Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop
the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a
short story when developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s
selfishness for the short story.
The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the main
character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she had been
asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438)
This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is a
bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things. She
tends to go on the cheaper side, and go to places like thrift stores, or buys discounts. So when she sees
the silk stockings, it was a luxury for her, something special that she use to have.

Social Media And Social Isolationism
There is a reason that AA meetings and other addiction recovery programs are face to face and not
virtual. This is because human beings are innately social and therefore, can perform actions for the
betterment of themselves and others. Without this face to face contact that social media encourages,
people, like Timothy, find themselves being swallowed up by the effects social isolationism has on
one s physical and physiological well being, however as we will see later on, social media can be
extremely beneficial in helping those with social isolationism. The dangers The effects of social
isolationism can be devastating both physically and psychologically. In the physical aspect, people
who suffer from social isolationism find themselves feeling like they have less energy, and vitality in
life. They simply don t feel up to the tasks at hand and are tired all the time. Social isolationism can
also affect how many times we get sick and how our bodies heal. For example, those who suffer from
this find that when they are injured or sick, that their bodies take considerably longer to recover and to
feel normal as well as they find themselves getting sick or injured more often than others. Moreover,
there is also a greater likelihood of chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Life
spans can be shortened considerably and the general thoughts and feeling about life are negative and
unhappy. Social isolationism has also been linked to at the other end of the

Are Children Valued In The Past
Humans have always lived in social groups because of the necessities of each other. One point I found
interesting in this article was how children were valued and taken care of in the past. The reason why
children were highly valued in the past was because there were more caregivers available for each
child. This was due to the fact that people lived in multicultural and social groups focusing less on the
significance of personal space and privacy. All these individuals play a vital role in the child s
advancement and safety. Based on the article, a child under the age of six has roughly 4 to 5 caregivers
which are more than society has in this modern generation. Another point that fascinates me was how
having a logical interaction plays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Due to the months, she was neglected as a child, Hailey had developmental problems. Proper care and

in the United States of America moves children to and fro from foster home, sending them to different

The Reflection Of Being A Group Of My Friends
On Friday October 20, I decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to observe a group of my
friends. I chose this group because I have known them for a number of years now, and I have never
allowed myself the opportunity to truly observe them, and I felt this would be a perfectly fascinating
opportunity to examine them from a pure sociological perspective. I have enjoyed their company, and
who they all are, but I thought it would be interesting to see how our group functions and tends to
interact with one another. Each and every one of these particular members of my friend group are
rather intriguing. They are all very intelligent people with a decent sense of humor, and complex
personalities all around. I expected to discover some interesting things about my friends, as I have
observed them before, but never like this. I was hopeful, that I might discover some further insight
that might explain how our groups tends to function. I felt encouraged to analyze certain aspects of
their individual personalities, and to see how they interact with one another to form our group
dynamic, utilizing the dramaturgical perspective. In addition, I specifically concentrated my efforts on
looking at four elements of theater which are: costumes, actors, audience, and script. In order to best
lay a foundation for the scene that I observed, I will describe what it was specifically that I observed
on this particular occasion. I arrived at my friend Aisha s house on Friday evening, as we planned on
having a little get together with two of our mutual friends Kayla, and Brittany. All three of them were
already there by the time I got there, as I had work that evening. When I stepped inside, they were all
standing around Aisha s counter giggling, and talking about a new guy that Brittany had met earlier in
the day. All three of them were dressed pretty casually, as Brittany and Kayla both had on sweaters
and jeans. Aisha was dressed a little more formally, as she was wearing her work clothes still, which
included a skirt, white blouse, and heels. Aisha stood tall above the rest of us, and is the oldest being
23 years old. Brittany and Kayla are both 21. In terms of their racial backgrounds, Aisha is from

Analysis Of Barbara Kingsolver s Flight Behavior
Climate change, also known as global warming, is one of the biggest environmental challenges
affecting the planet the world is getting warmer, and humans activity is primarily to blame. Climate
change is the leitmotif of Barbara Kingsolver s novel Flight Behavior. Set in Appalachia, rural
Tennessee, Flight Behavior tells the story of Dellarobia Turnbow a 28 year old unhappy housewife,
stuck in a marriage brought on by a teenage pregnancy. Dellarobia was on her way to commit adultery
when she stumbled on what she believed was an act of god a colony of monarch butterflies whose

Dellarobia has all these questions, yet the answers are always insufficient: too young, too late, why
now, why here. The word choice in this passage shows how distraught and confused Dellarobia is
about the phenomenon s occurring in her life. Diction such as Why the butterflies, why now. Why
here? This repetition creates a real emphasis, and adds to the mood of this passage of exasperation and
uncertainty. The author s tone is shared with Dellarobia. The tone is irritated and disgruntled. The
author uses diction and language to convey this tone. The sentence length has an immense effect on
the reader. This passage contains for the most part long sentences with the exception of the last few
sentences. The long sentences are used here to investigate the core nature of Dellarobia more
thoroughly; the short sentences, however, are used to pack more punch and emphasis compared to the
previous, more lengthy sentences. To amplify her writing, Kingsolver uses a simile in this passage.
She compares the word why with one silver dollar on the floor of a wishing well, begging to be
plucked up but strategically untouchable. In sublime language, Kingsolver is saying that everybody
wants to know the answer to the question why? but that that like a coin in a wishing well, the answer
is simply unattainable no matter how much one may want to

Tina Belcher s Subculture Hat

How Mark A Book By Mortimer J. Adler
How to Mark a Book by Mortimer J. Adler. How to Mark a Book by Mortimer J. Adler is an essay
over the author s belief on the importance of marking or writing inside a book. Adler s primary
purpose is persuasive. He writes to convince the reader to partake in writing in one s own books when
reading to become more efficient. Adler s secondary purpose is expressive because of the way he
describes his least favorite type of reader: There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the
standard sets and best sellers unread, untouched. This deluded individual owns woodpulp and ink, not
books (17 6). Adler uses a couple of patterns during his essay. The first pattern is description. He
explains that the true value of a book is in its ideas: The soul of a book can be separated from its body.
A book is more like the score of a piece of music than it is like a painting (17 8). Adler then uses a
comparison/contrast pattern to enlighten the reader about the three kinds of book owners. His least
favorite type of reader was mention earlier in the analysis. The second type of book owner has many
books but they have no written notes or markings by the owner. This owner is, compared to the next
type in Alder s eyes, still not a true book owner. The third and most desired type of book owner,
according to Alder, has: ... a few books or many every one of them dog eared and dilapidated, shaken

of violence that is almost impossible to defend against. In his article, Atran (2003) explains suicide
terrorism as the targeted use of self destructing humans against noncombatant typically civilian

  • 3. Self-Obsessive Nature Of The Millennial Generation Millennials are the most intriguing generation the country of the United States has ever seen. The GI Generation were forced to deal with the First World War where they became the Lost Generation whose morals, including God, family, life and death, were flipped on their heads. The Greatest Generation had the responsibility of facing Nazis and dealing with the post traumatic stress disorder. The Baby Boomers were the post world war generations who introduced credit and were the first TV generation. Generation X dealt with Civil Rights Movement and a rapid increase in divorce amongst parents creating trauma for children. However, Millennials seem to deal with several issues that previous generations of the past as well as the scrutiny of previous generations alongside threats like terrorism and the threat of infringement on privacy or how self obsessed we are by our social media use. However, despite things being much harder in the millennial generation, such as education, we are viewed as weak. The self obsessive nature of my generation comes from the use of social media and how we crave the liking and approval of others through our pictures or posts. Since 2005 the emergence of social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or VSCO has allowed this generation to share their lives in a glorified fashion in order to gain followers and attention from likers. However, this creates an issue for our generation as the more we glorify the events in our life the more disappointing life is. For instance, say you go to a Washington Nationals game and you send out an amazing selfie to post for Instagram with the caption reading, Had an amazing day with my fam!, but the question is...did you really? Based off of most peoples posts now a days it seems like their lives are just splendid. However, life is not as hyped up as it is on social media which will set everyone up for disappointment. That to me is the worst issue that Millennials face is that they try to live up to a standard of life that doesn t exist. The other issue my generation experiences is known as the Sins of the Father. The previous generations never dealt with their own issues so they push it on to the younger generation to fix the issue. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day 1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and showing how it works? 1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here, however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday, whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning. (Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s eternal return? 1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words, living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to repeat (be reborn) as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Lincoln Electric Company Analysis of the Lincoln Electric Company Upon review of the Lincoln Electric Company case study conducted by Arthur Sharpish of Harvard University, I came to find that the culture within the company is what elevated Lincoln Electric above all other companies in that field. When analyzing the report I considered many aspects of the company in order to determine what exactly that separates Lincoln from their competition. First, I examined the ongoing influence that has been exerted by the founders of the company. Lincoln Electric was founded by James F. Lincoln at the turn of the 20th century. His influence in leadership and his approach toward the customer has stood the test of time. James believed that the success of his company lay with the customer and a motivated labor force. It is obvious that the customer s interests, not the stockholder s, should come first. In 1947 he said, Care should be taken ... not to rivet attention on profit. Between How much do I get? and How do I make this better, cheaper, more useful? the difference is fundamental and decisive. (J, Lincoln) James valued customer satisfaction above all else, which inevitably led to the innovation and production of a great product that met the consumer s needs. His views on employee retention continue to be a guide within the company. If fulfilling customer needs is the desired goal of the company then employee performance and productivity are the means by which this goal can best be achieved. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Army Organizational Life Cycle Model Identify and Explain the Purpose and Actions of any Four Phases of the Army Organizational Life Cycle Model The Army s Organizational Life Cycle Model contains eight phases (U.S. Army War College, 2015 2016). This paper identifies and explains four of those phases, acquisition, training, distribution, and deployment. The process the U.S. Army utilizes to fill the units they design with personnel to fight and win the nation s wars, equipment to own the air and the night, money to put fuel into the vehicles and bullets in the weapons, and facilities to house the soldiers and their families in is the Acquisition process. The army cannot continue without new soldiers to fill its ranks or weapons and bullets to destroy the enemy, this phase is the building block for the Army Organizational Life Cycle Model and helps dictate training and the rest of the model forward. Noncommissioned Offices conduct training, but without the training carried out at the entry level schools for enlisted soldiers and officers certifying soldiers are trained in their programmed skills, the army of today would not function (U.S. Army War College, 2015 2016). This initial training is the training phase within the Army Organizational Life Cycle Model, and it feeds the distribution phase. The distribution phase allocates the trained and skilled soldiers from their training phase to their units where they are needed. • 8. Depression And Substance Abuse The occurrence or diagnosis of depression in relation to drug use or abuse presents itself as a bi directional relationship. Meaning the onset of one of these factors (depression or already present substance use) creates an equal opportunity for the consequence of another factor to appear. Both depression and substance use and dependency have the potential to co habitat each other in a comorbid state. Symptoms occurring with depression, especially if they are left untreated, are shown to have increased rates of drug use potential while consistent substance use and abuse can cause depressive symptoms. In order to examine this relationship, substance abuse and addiction need to be understood on its own first. Drug addictions contuse to persist on both a national and global level; it is also significant to mention that such issues create a heavy burden on government and justice systems that deal with them. In fact, 9% of Americans meet the diagnostic criteria for a substance abuse disorder (6% for alcohol and 3% for illicit drugs), making it one of the most common chronic diseases in the United States (Compton Change 2017). Such prevalence adds pressure to government systems and taxpayers as they are, estimated to cost Americans more than $400 billion annually: $224 billion for alcohol ($25 billion in health care) and $193 billion for illicit drugs ($11 billion in health care) (Compton and Chang 2017). Now, substance abuse or addiction are considered, psychiatric illnesses with specific indicators [which include] a strong desire to use (or craving), and [interruption of] life activities [which are] generally reduced to drug seeking, drug using, and recovering from the effects of use (Compton Chang 2017) When an individual tries an addictive substance like nicotine, alcohol, or other illicit drugs, it activates certain parts of the brain which can induce, pleasurable feelings and, very strong memories that drive subsequent behaviors to repeat the rewarding experience (Compton Change 2017). If such a drive continues to persist it can transition into a habit and create a dependency on that substance. Now, likewise to treatments to depression, those who suffer from substance abuse disorders also have a variety of treatment options. These treatment options include long term and short term residential treatments (inpatient and outpatient), individualized drug counseling, and group counseling (NIDA, n.d). With ... I calculated and measured based on the experiment we conducted that the Whole Grain cereal contained 21.9 mg of iron within its flakes. Based on my measured iron value compared to the RDI value for iron, I was off by 3.9 mg of iron. Multiple factors could have attributed to the difference between my measured value of iron compared to the RDI iron value. One of the experimental factors that could have attributed to the difference is how long the cereal was actually burned and how high the temperature actually was when the sample burned. Depending on how much filtrate was collected and how well it filtered could have been a factor in the difference between the measured iron value and the RDI iron value. Another factor that could have had an impact on the difference between measure and RDI iron value is when we measured 5mL of 2.0 M of HCl into the test tubes 1 through 5, we also measured 5mL of stock solution in test tube 5. What could have had a factor in our results for measured iron value is how accurately we measured 5mL of test tube 5 mixture into test tube 4 of the 250.0 ppm mixture, and how accurately we measure 5mL of test tube 4 mixture to place into test tube 3 and so on. • 11. Lacan And Foucault And The Gaze The term the gaze has a general meaning that means to look at something with intent and with fixed attention. Lacan, Fanon and Foucault all use the gaze in order to refer to various concepts. Lacan uses the gaze in order to refer to in instance during the mirror stage in which the subject views itself in the mirror image. The subject then enters an anxious state that comes from the awareness from knowing that it can be viewed. Lacan argues further that the individual then loses a level of self sufficiency upon realising that they can be viewed as a visible object (Felluga, 2015). This is exactly what Lacan describes as the gaze. Lacan states that the gaze is everywhere and at the same time, it is nowhere (Bleeker, 2008). The gaze manifests itself further through its effects rather than through the source. Therefore, like Fanon, the gaze cannot be located. A difference Between Fanon s gaze and Lacanian gaze is that Lacan s gaze places emphasis on how an individual views them self therefore it is the gaze upon one s self, where Fanon s white gaze emphasises how we are affected by other people s gazes, most crucially how the white gaze is used in order to impose power over black people. Fanon s gaze is also based entirely on race and how one race grouped is viewed under the gaze of another race group, which in turn affects their identity and subjectivity, while Lacan s gaze is based on how you view yourself, for example your social ... Introduction to Oboe and Bassoon An Introduction Oboe and Bassoon By Marie A Rogers 300005290 Woodwind Techniques 1 1010 1100 Mr. Robinson The oboe is a soprano range double reed instrument with a length of 62cm. Its wooden tube is distinguished by a conical bore that expands into a flaring bell. The modern oboe s range extends from the B flat below middle C (b3 flat) to about 3 octaves higher (A6). The oboe has a very narrow conical bore. It is played with a double reed consisting of two thin blades of cane tied together on a small metal tube called a staple, which is inserted into the reed socket at the top of the instrument. The modern Bassoon exists in two distinct primary forms the Buffett system and the Heckle system. Most of the world plays the Heckle system, while the Buffett system is primarily in France, Belgium, and parts of Latin America. Bassoon techniques The Bassoon is held diagonally in front of the player, but unlike the flute, oboe, and clarinet, it cannot be supported by the players hands alone. Some means of additional support is required; the most common ones used are a neck strap or shoulder harness attached to the top of the boot joint, a seat strap attached to the base of the boot joint which is laid across the chair seat prior to sitting down. To stabilize the right hand, many Bassoonists use an adjustable common shaped apparatus called a crutch , which mounts to the boot joint. An aspect of Bassoon playing technique called flicking involves the momentary pressing or flicking of the high A, C, and D keys by the left hand thumb at the beginning of certain note in the middle octave in order to eliminate the cracking or brief microphonic that happens without the use of the key. Bassoon Reeds Bassoon reeds, made of Arundo donax cane, are often made by the players themselves, although beginner bassoonists tend to buy their reeds from professional reed makers or use reeds made by their teachers. Reeds begin with a length of tube cane that is split into three or four pieces. The cane is then trimmed and gouged to the desired thickness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. A Comparison Of The Tanach And Bible A Comparison of the Tanach and Bible Each religion has a sacred text which is used to understand their worldview and their religion better. A sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous similarities because of the mother daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism is the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue. STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same. The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. The auxiliary proteins contain hemagglutinin (HA) and a non toxic non hemagglutinin (NTNH) component which make up approximately 900kDa and ensure the toxin enters the gut without being lysed by the present enzymes. The botulinum toxin in the gut now has to enter the vascular system and does this via the process known as endocytosis and undergoes a further process (transcytosis) to move it into the vasculature. The reason for this was speculated to be due to structural differences between the serotypes and that the binding domain of each may be in a different position so that when the toxin binds to its substrate it changes its orientation to cleave the peptide bond that is ideal in correspondence with the change in orientation. The effect of the peptide bond cleavage is revealed once an action potential reaches the neuron. In a short story by Kate Chopin called A Pair of Silk Stockings, the main character named Mrs Sommer s is given 15$, and was suppose to spend the money on her children for clothes, but instead spended it on herself for a pair of silk stockings. Mrs. Sommer s catches herself looking at a pair of silk stocking s while out shopping, and is suppose to be getting clothes and such for her children. But what really happens is she lets her temptation get the best of her, and she ends up buying the socks for herself instead. Once she gets the socks she then wants more and more and even go out to a fancy restaurant, some boots, and even theatre tickets. But once she leaves the theatre, it then hit her that she has to go home to her children in which she did not get them the things she promised them. A dominant theme that Kate Chopin develops in the story focuses around thoughts and conditions of the past. She shows in the story that Mrs. Sommer s has a normal daily routine, and a boring lifestyle. The day she saw the silk stockings, she focused on only herself when usually she always cares for her children. Throughout the short story, A Pair of Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a short story when developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s selfishness for the short story. The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the main character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she had been asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438) This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is a bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things. Adler is an essay over the author s belief on the importance of marking or writing inside a book. Adler s primary purpose is persuasive. He writes to convince the reader to partake in writing in one s own books when reading to become more efficient. Adler s secondary purpose is expressive because of the way he describes his least favorite type of reader: There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the standard sets and best sellers unread, untouched. This deluded individual owns woodpulp and ink, not books (17 6). Adler uses a couple of patterns during his essay. The first pattern is description. He explains that the true value of a book is in its ideas: The soul of a book can be separated from its body.
