Civil War Vs Confederacy Essay
In 1861 the United States witnessed a division within itself. As a result a war, better known as the
Civil war, broke out due to the South s declaration for their independence. In the beginning of the
Civil war, President Lincoln s main goal was to preserve the union. Although many assumed the Civil
war s primary goal was to abolish slavery, that simply wasn t the case. The Union and the Confederacy
both wanted to preserve a way of life. The difference between the Union and the confederacy, and
what ultimately started the Civil war, was that both sides wanted to preserve life differently. These
differences brought many changes throughout the war, and along those changes came many
consequences.
The Confederacy s goal was independence. They wanted to gain independence from the ... Show more

In the Civil war the North defeated the south, and as a result the Confederates were devastated. One of
the consequences of the civil war was the amount of life that was taken during this time. The
destruction of life and property were enormous. The south had many consequences as a result of the
civil war. The confederates suffered economically by the civil war. Because most of the fighting was
done in the south, a lot of the land was ruined. As a result the south had to rebuild. There was a lot of
physical damage done to the region. Most of the best agricultural land were destroyed. Many major
cities, like Richmond were destroyed, and farm values diminished. The Confederates believed the
Union had limited their constitutional rights to make their own political, social and economic decision.
To them the real issue was liberty not slavery. Both the North and the South had slaves, but by the end
of the war many slaves were freed and a minority of slaves in the south fled to the union. African
Americans weren t allowed to enlists in neither armies, but as the war went on the union admitted
black soldiers, but at a lower pay than the whites. ( Foner

The New Leader Integration Process
The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates for
executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the book
explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal transfer or
an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or external, the process
is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs, 2011). The New Leader
Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the mutual benefit for both the
new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of interviews are conducted with the
bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the questions kept confidential (Burroughs,
2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include large customers, suppliers and trustees if
needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed, the new executive should have the necessary
knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his or her chance for success.
The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the organization is
based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). In this style of
leadership an individual must pass through a series of leader transitional phases, each with their own
individual defined passage (Ram Charan, 2001). If the organization ignores the inherent pitfalls of

Watson s Theory Of Human Caring
Watson s Carative Factors
According to Watson, the ten carative factors of her theory serve as core principles critical to the
practice of human caring (Watson, 2012). Watson s theory provides an appropriate framework to help
palliative care nurses promote positive outcomes in patients experiencing hopelessness. For example,
one of Watson s carative factors encourages patients to promote negative feelings in order to
strengthen the nurse patient relationship (McKay, Rajacich, Rosenbaum, 2002). Encouraging patients
to vent feelings of hopelessness allows the nurse to provide the patient with proper support. Watson s
Theory of Human Caring can be operationalized by demonstration of ten caritas factors in Watson s
Caring Factor Survey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nursing
Definitions of hopelessness in nursing literature tend to vary. According to the North American
Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), hopelessness is a subjective state in which an individual
sees limited or unavailable alternatives or personal choices and is unable to mobilize energy on own
behalf, (2017, p. 466). NANDA s defining characteristics of hopelessness include, but are not limited
to: passivity, lack of involvement in care, decreased appetite and decreased verbalization (2017, p.
466). The concept of hopelessness within the nursing context encompasses cognitive and emotional
elements. In her research, Campbell identified four characteristics of hopelessness: negative future
expectations, loss of control over future outcomes, passive acceptance, and emotional negativity
(Campbell, 1987). Within the nursing context, hopelessness can also be viewed as lack of involvement
in one s own care (Kylma, Duggleby, Cooper, Molander, 2005). Another prominent study in nursing,
however, focusing on the dynamics of hope and hopeless in palliative care suggested that most of the
terminally ill patients attributed their feelings of hopelessness to losses in the past (Olsman, Leget,
Duggleby, Willems, 2015). Feelings of hopelessness can also be considered either state of being or a
character trait (Dunn, 2005). Hopelessness can also be viewed independently

Analysis Of Janie s Their Eyes Were Watching God
Love is lak de sea. It s uh movin thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from de shape it meets, and it
s different with every shore (Hurston 191). This quote demonstrates the self awareness by the
protagonist, Janie, as she reflects on her past lovers at the end of the book. In the novel, Their Eyes
Were Watching God, we learn of the struggles that Janie goes through to find true love. Janie has three
different marriages thought out the story, explaining her struggles with love and death. Logan Killicks

This quote demonstrates the freedom that Janie has when she lets her hair down and burns the head
rags. I believe that this was a foreshadow of her freedom being taken away from again by Tie Cake.
Tie Cake, much like the others, was nice and treated Janie the way she wanted to be treated. This
quote states how young he was younger than the other men Janie had married and had fallen in love at
first sight. However many people would consider him as sexist for helping Janie. ...he assumes they
require men to escort them back home safely (Shmoop). This quote shows how the author of the
article believes that Tea Cake is being sexist and does not even write of the possibility of Tea Cake
trying to be nice. I would not consider him as a sexist but, I would agree that he did not treat her right.
He would lie to Janie right to her face and would try to find ways around tilling the truth. As Janie s
story with Tea Cake continues, they go through a storm that would test their love for eachother. Tea
Cake stays true to his word and saves his women from a crazy dog. I believe this moment made Janie
stay with Tea Cake when he was infected by the dog with rabies.
The Rabies would consume Tea Cake alive and turned him into a monster. There was nothing that
could be done to save him from a inevitable death. The monster

Symbolism In Raktakarabi
In Rabindranath Tagore s play, Raktakarabi (Red Oleanders, 1924), set in an imaginary town called
Yakshapuri ruled under capitalism, minorities are dehumanized and exploited into becoming a source
of gold digging machines by a brutal King whose ever growing obsession with wealth had turned him
despicable until salvation became apparent in the hands of a woman named Nandini. Nandini is the
protagonist and the King is the antagonist of the play. Yakshapuri in Hindu mythology is referred to as
the abode of the god of its hoard of treasure. In the play, the King symbolizes the oppressor of both
humans and nature by fear and power and Nandini symbolizes the nature that restores its equilibrium
by shaking everything into its righteous place by beauty, love and strong character. What s left in
between are the oppressed: the miners along with their families who are undoubtedly and hopelessly
stuck in a rollercoaster where their freedom is nowhere to be apparent. Tagore shows his concern over
the materialistic industry oriented mentality of men and the lust of controlling the resources of the
earth as well as the inhabitants by exploiting, estranging and circumscribing the underdogs.

Imperialism in the Philippines
For over 400 years, the Philippines has been imperialized by the Spanish and the U.S. in order to gain
more power. Under their control, there have been many changes to culture, tradition, religion, and
language due to heavy influence from both countries. Imperialism is a policy where a country extends
its power by conquering other territories through diplomatic or military power. Imperialism is heavily
driven by the rise of industry and the need for raw materials to manufacture new firearms and
consumer goods. The Spanish treated the Filipinos ruthlessly, forcing taxes, labor, and seizing crops
and livestock without proper compensation. The U.S. imperialization caused English to become one of
the Philippines main languages, hospitals, schools, and railroad systems were established, and present
day Philippine government shares similarities to U.S. government.
Section 1
First colonized by the Spanish in 1521, the U.S. never had official control of the Philippines until
1899, when the U.S. won the Spanish American war. Eventually, the U.S. acquired the Philippines
through the Treaty of Paris, where it states that Spain s control of the Philippine Islands will be
transferred to the United States for $20,000,000. The Filipinos first viewed the conflict between Spain
and the U.S. as the perfect time to break away from Spanish rule and secure an alliance with the U.S.

Analysis Of Farley Mowat s Never Cry Wolf
Never Cry Wolf , by Farley Mowat, uses a lot of anthropomorphism. We see wolves as bloodthirsty
savages that prey on the weak, cause havoc, and kill just to attack or to start a fight. Quite the
opposite, the wolves only kill for food or when under attack. Their actions are based on their needs.
Contrary to the wolves, humans hunt for food but they also do so for pleasure. In reality, the wolves
just do what is needed to survive. The author studied the wolves to further document the truths about
the lives of wolves and his use of anthropomorphism bring this book to life. It is ironic at times as the
similarities between the wolves and humans are few yet the contrasts are many. In simple terms,

Growing brain
The brain grows at a faster rate than any other part of the body. By age 5, child s brain weighs 90% of
average adult brain weight, whereas total body weight is merely 30%.
One reason is due to increase in the number of interconnections among cells. These interconnects
allow for more complex communication between neurons, permit rapid growth of cognitive skills.
Amount of myelin (protective insulation that surrounds parts of the neurons) increases, which speeds
the transmission of electrical impulses along brain cells but also adds weight to the brain.

Indentured Servants Essay
In the seventeenth century, slaves and indentured servants were considered property. The difference
between the two groups of people, is slavery lasted a lifetime while indentured servants labor lasted
for four to six years until the servant were able to pay their owner back. So under these circumstances,
slaves and indentured servants lives were very similar but also different. Based on their clothing and
the skills they had, slaves and indentured servant lifestyles were different. Clothing seemed like a
huge factor in the ads in 1738, because it showed the difference between a slave and indentured

Essay On Folic Acid
In Australia, the reasonableness and effectiveness of folic acid being mandatorily fortified to support
healthy pregnancy when considering the occurrence of NTDS in Australian children due to the amount
their mothers have consumed of folic acid during pregnancy. The main purpose for creating a
mandatory policy to include folic acid to the wheat flour of non organic bread in Australia is to reduce
the incidence of NTDs across the nation. Substantial rates of NTDs occur worldwide as significantly
more folate is needed early in pregnancy than in other life stages. This early stage of pregnancy is
often when women are unaware that they are pregnant. The folate is required for the development of

Overall, for women 16 44 years of age, the amount of folic acid being consumed was concerningly
low initially, with a mean of 102µg/day. Current recommendations provided by the NHMRC (2006)
for women at child bearing age is an intake of at least 400µg of folate per day, with a 500µg daily
supplement when trying for a baby. This is particularly with the focus of avoiding the incidence of
NTDs in newborn infants. The mean folic acid intake has now increased to 247 µg/day (Australian
Institute of Health and Welfare, 2017). In the past, mandatory fortification has also been under
scrutiny for reaching those at greatest risk of producing Neural Tube Defects and to be less able to
access foods fortified with folate acid, such as pregnant teenagers and Indigenous populations (Baker

fortification occurs to bread which is a relatively affordable and available food eaten by most
Australians (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2017). Pregnant teenagers gave birth to 54.8%
less NTD effected children after mandatory folic acid fortification. A rate of 74% less NTDs amongst
Indigenous women is an even more substantial decline of NTD occurrence, since folic acid
fortification of breads became

Examples Of Light And Darkness In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 45, Ray Bradbury uses the motifs of light and darkness to develop characters and
demonstrate that knowledge and ignorance impact the wellbeing of society . The motifs of light and

and meaning that ignorance hinders. Demonstrating the effects of knowledge, Clarisse and her family,

society to maintain equality. After his final encounter with Clarisse, Montag observes the firemen in
the firehouse as they lit their eternally burning black pipes. They and their charcoal hair and soot
colored brows and bluish ash smeared cheeks, (Bradbury 30). The firemen burn books, the essence of
knowledge, thus they are responsible for the widespread establishment of ignorance in their society.
As a result, the firemen are described with dark features through the words charcoal, ash, and soot.
The connotation of these dark adjectives contributes to the characterization of the firemen as
destructive, representing their ruination of society. Therefore, the motifs of light and dark contribute to
the characterization of Clarisse and the

Most common areas of specialisation are: workforce planning and employment, HR development,
Risk Management developing health and safety programmes for the organisation.
Smaller organisations tend to have generalist staff who cover the core areas of Human Resource
Management. Some larger organisations choose to break down their Human Resource management
down into generalist and specialist categorisation.
Where the HR function is large, there would typically be a HR Director within the structure that works
with the other top level executives to analyse the organisation in order to determine and plan its
staffing needs to achieve the long term goal and strategic aims. It is at this level where other options
should be explored to determine the actual need to recruit as there may be other options for the
organisation such as job redesign. The area of staffing falls within the HR function where the
recruitment and selection of human resources for the organisation is carried out. On selection,
Recruitment advisors are involved in developing and administering methods that enable managers to
decide lawfully which candidates to select and which to reject for the given jobs.
A learning and development function provides employees with the opportunities to gain and enhance
their skills and knowledge to enable them to perform in their jobs effectively. In addition to providing

Speech-Language Pathology Program Analysis
My goal is to maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher to keep my place in the speech language pathology
program. Marywood University was my first choice college and I couldn t be happier that I m here. I
committed to come to Marywood because of the speech program, the atmosphere, the stress on
service, and the importance of education. The reasons I can here parallel the Core Values of
Marywood. They also put me on the right track to accomplish my own goals. I want to serve others,
get an education, and become a welcoming friend to all who need one. When I found out that
Marywood had a 5 year speech program I couldn t be happier. What could be better than getting a

I found out about the Maxis Gillet Service Scholars and I instantly wanted to be involved. I sent in my
application, went for interviews, and now I am a Maxis Gillet myself! Service has always been a big
part of my life and being a Maxis Gillet furthers my passion. It allows me to serve a new group of
people and experience new opportunities. All of the clubs I joined offer service opportunities. I think it
s amazing that every club and athletic team participates in something. I am very involved with
activities on campus and I love when I hear that other people are having a good time.
Last but not least is education. I aspire to be a well rounded speech pathologist and Marywood offers
me multiple ways to accomplish this. By attending a liberal arts college, I will get educated in many
areas, not just in speech pathology. Although it may seem like a lot to handle, it really is worth it.
Marywood is preparing me for the rest of my life. Overall, Marywood s values parallel my goals. I
want to be a well rounded speech language pathologist, I want to serve others, and I want to be a kind
and welcoming person. Marywood is putting me on the exact track that I want to be on. When I leave
here, I want to accomplish all of the goals I set for myself. For right now, my closest goal is to

Don T-Stop Believing Poem Meaning
Some will win / Some will lose / Some were born to sing the blues (Journey lines 24 26), and some
were born to be poets. In this case, it is Maggie Smith s Good Bones and Journey s Don t Stop
Believing that serve as great examples to that. All poetry, including songs, are artistic in one way or
another; short or long, rhyme or no rhyme, but they all have a meaning. They also all contain poetic
devices, which is what really makes them artistic. Journey s use of allusions, repetitions, and
metaphors is why Don t stop believing is more artistic and poetic than Maggie Smith s Good Bones .
These two pieces of art, Don t Stop Believing and Good Bones , share a very similar message which is
to believe that there are good things in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Repetition is a pretty basic poetry device that just repeated words or phrases to emphasize their
importance. Metaphors on the other hand are a thing that can make ideas go above and beyond.
According to Dr. Peter Fuda metaphors make big, complex things simple and are more familiar (Fuda
1). That is why they are so vital in making these two works good. Repetition especially in Good Bones
is used a lot for little parts of the poem that make them stand out, and show importance. Maggie Smith
repeats Life is short twice back to back (lines 1 2). Also at the end when she makes her biggest point
and repeats This place could be beautiful / right? You could make this place beautiful (Smith lines 16
17). She wants people to see that for the repetition of all the negative aspects of life, there is also the
good which is why she repeats this key phrase and the end of the poem. Journey s use of repetition is a
little different and broad in the fact that it is the chorus that repeats. Although it is a longer text it still
is an important part which is why they chose to use

Introduction Political preferences seem an obvious topic of research, as the findings of such research
are highly sought after. As such any research relating to what motivates political orientation would be
very useful. For this reason a great deal of research into the relationship between moral foundation and
political orientation has been done in recent years. For this study political orientation is measured

Whereas a strongly conservatives averaged neutral on Ingroup / loyalty statements, while agreeing
with fairness / Reciprocity, Harm / Care and Purity / Sanctity and strongly agreeing with Authority /
Respect(Graham, Haidt and Nosek 2009). In an earlier paper Haidt and Graham(2007) found that for
extreme liberals, Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity where almost always relivent, however those
who are extremely conservative find that they value all five more equally when making moral choice.
This correlates almost perfectly with the earlier paper from Graham, Haidt and Nosek(2009), showing
that the findings seem highly reliable. Haidt and Graham(2007) go on to say that the recognition of the
final three moral foundations(Ingroup / Loyalty, Authority / Respect and Purity / Sanctity) is key to
allowing more fair and even discussions between the two political standpoints. Furthering on this
Tyran (2004) found that when a person is presented with a voting option in a referendum where the
result would be of financial cost to themselves, but would be morally right, specifically relevant to the
Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity foundations, voters tended to vote for the morally right option.
This demonstrates that the connection between moral

Christian Dior Personal Statement
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life (Confucius). Growing up
under a conservative father, I never considered art as a profession even though it was always where
my heart belonged. My parents wanted me to become a doctor or a lawyer, and I blindly thought that
was the way to go. However, I made a life changing decision to become a fashion designer when I
watched a fashion show clip of Christian Dior couture collection in high school. Driven by the energy
and excitement of the runway, I thought of creating work like that. My father didn t approve, and he
told me that I should not turn my hobby into my profession because I would end up not enjoying it.
Despite his advice, I showed him the quote above and told him that I want to spend my life following
my passion instead of being forced to do something else. I received a BFA degree from the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. SAIC taught me to approach fashion as an interdisciplinary
medium that brings different areas of art together such as painting, sculpture, performance, fiber, and
more. I feel that the time of solely creating beautiful things has ended. Accordingly, good

done with her was a progression of menswear and how it would affect the principle of
masculinity. These discussions shifted my perspective about fashion towards a conceptual level rather

Fruit Valley Case Study
Fruit Valley has many strengths that would be cohesive to an aging friendly community. For instance,
the closeness and proximity of the houses to one another would help to keep the elderly individuals
close enough together to be able to lean on each other for support and companionship. Although a few
things could be added to better assist this growing population in this neighborhood, for example,
elderly assistance for shopping needs, a close by grocery store, delivery services for groceries,
pharmaceutical and medical supplies. Currently, Fruit Valley uses the Elementary school as the hub of
the community and this would be a great place to hub resources for the elderly as well. Countless
amenities could be added to make this a more convenient neighborhood for the aging population. ...

Elderly individuals could come in the mornings for coffee and help the K 5 aged children off the bus
and into the cafeteria for breakfast, then off to their classrooms for instruction time. This would create
a volunteer opportunity for the aging population in addition to providing a little extra attention and

Andrew Lehning, Andrew Scharlach, and Teresa Dal Santo discuss in their article, A web based
approach for helping communities become more Aging friendly , that there are three characteristics to
creating an aging friendly community and having a sense of purpose and self worth are key
components in this concept. By integrating seniors with children, we as a community are providing a

The Use Of Lsd And Its Effects On The Brain
Lysergic Acid Diethylamide or LSD is a hallucinogenic drug that can be taken orally, injected or even
absorbed through the skin. Once LSD has entered the body, it starts to take effects on the levels of
serotonin in the brain which can cause; hallucinations, mood change, and even sensory distortion.
After taking LSD, the effects on the brain usually last from 6 to 9 hours depending on multiple factors;
the dosage of LSD taken, the subject taking LSD, and even the user s mood can affect the duration of
LSD use. LSD is a non lethal, non addictive, and a non habit forming drug that has little to no effect
on the long term health of an individual. However, LSD has been illegal since the 1960 s. Not only did
availability of LSD become scarce with the criminalization of the substance, but the legislation also
put a halt on the research of the chemical as well. Much of the way LSD interacts with the brain has
been left unknown. This derivative from the rye fungus Ergot has been the source of controversy that
has left many people wondering why LSD has been classified as a drug that is just as dangerous to use
as heroin. It becomes difficult for an individual to understand how legislation could criminalize a
chemical without completely understanding how it functions and affects people. LSD should be
legalized for scientific, medical and recreational usage. Troche 2
LSD has potential medical and therapeutic uses. Even though LSD s illegalization caused a drastic

Monitoring Employees
When it comes to monitoring employees in the workplace, there are advantages for the employer to do
this, but there are also disadvantages of monitoring employees. Some of the most immediate
advantages to monitoring employees is that most likely job performance will be improved because if
an employee is being monitored and they know they will not try and do things that are not company
related. Another thing that monitoring work emails would help is sexual harassment because if
someone knows that their email is being recorded and or watched they would not even try to do that to
another coworker. The employer could see if their employees are actually doing their work. Then
finally, if a employer monitors emails it can help them not be liable

Satire In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
There s a Black Friday sale on babies this weekend; eat up! Satire can point out societal inadequacy
and ridicule political policies in a way that is humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent.
In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift uses exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the
meaningless lives of the Irish poor under English rule. Thus, giving his work a wider audience while
also serving as a furtherment of Swift s typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the
harm caused by the Declaratory Act of 1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate
over Ireland with no input from the Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress.
Swift contrasts his calm, yet harsh criticism of English politics and the rich upper class with his own
passionate beliefs. Swift s satiric pamphlet was not only effective at the time it was published but also
in modernity; it remains one of the most well known satiric works in literature today. One of the
reasons Swift s writing was so popular was because he wrote in a way people were familiar. A Modest
Proposal was written as a pamphlet with the same title common of pamphlets at the time (Williams
51). Before reading through Swift s proposal the work would seem to be ordinary and tired. Swift
keeps with the familiarity of the people in his style. Swift masks his satire with a style reminiscent of
metaphysical poetry, a style popular in the late 1600s. While A Modest Proposal undoubtedly is not a
poem, it mimics the main themes of metaphysical poetry. This style starts and remains a complex
work through its entirety, relying heavily on the use of paradox and violence. These cannot be
overlooked in Swift s piece; his major plot is killing and eating infants. What separates both
metaphysical poetry and Swift s work from other works is its argumentative stance. Most pamphlets
of the time would simply offer a humble solution while Swift fights not only with the audience but
with himself to embed his main purpose into the audience s brain. When reading metaphysical poetry,
the reader is trained to think thoroughly about what is offered in the piece and moreover, the author s
true intent. In keeping with this style, Swift

starting on Page 6. Santiago deals with a recurring dream and he does not understand why he is having
it. This dream occurs every time Santiago sleeps under a sycamore tree that grows out of the ruins of a
church. In this dream a child tells Santiago to go after a treasure located by the Egyptian pyramids.
Santiago is confused by the message of the dream and goes to a gypsy woman to try and understand
the dream. She says that he should go to Egypt in pursuit of the treasure. This leads to Santiago

Family Members Of Palliative Or End Of Life Patients
Family members of palliative or end of life patients tend to be very stressed about their loved one and
are often worried about the outcome, whether the circumstances were foreseen or not. Due to a family
member being incapable of carrying out normal roles, there are shifts in the family s identity and
function of roles in their daily routines (Brier, Del Gaudio, Kissane Zaider, 2011). Many families show
significant resilience and adaptation when facing stress such as this, but a substantial minority of
families become highly distressed when a family member has palliative or end of life illness,
condition, or acute event (Brier et al., 2011). This stress and worry can lead to grief and bereavement
before and after death. This causes coping mechanisms to begin functioning for the family members at
the time of diagnosis or discovery or imminent end of life. Each is family member is different and
some may have a more difficult time in dealing with the death of their loved one. These coping
strategies related to grief will be further discussed as it pertains to the family.
Family Coping With Palliative and End of Life Family Members
Palliative and end of life care is not the same term. Palliative care is a longer process than end of life
care and extends for months to years and may include attempted treatments to cure an illness
throughout that time and focuses on improving the quality of life for the patient and their families

  • 3. Civil War Vs Confederacy Essay In 1861 the United States witnessed a division within itself. As a result a war, better known as the Civil war, broke out due to the South s declaration for their independence. In the beginning of the Civil war, President Lincoln s main goal was to preserve the union. Although many assumed the Civil war s primary goal was to abolish slavery, that simply wasn t the case. The Union and the Confederacy both wanted to preserve a way of life. The difference between the Union and the confederacy, and what ultimately started the Civil war, was that both sides wanted to preserve life differently. These differences brought many changes throughout the war, and along those changes came many consequences. The Confederacy s goal was independence. They wanted to gain independence from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Civil war the North defeated the south, and as a result the Confederates were devastated. One of the consequences of the civil war was the amount of life that was taken during this time. The destruction of life and property were enormous. The south had many consequences as a result of the civil war. The confederates suffered economically by the civil war. Because most of the fighting was done in the south, a lot of the land was ruined. As a result the south had to rebuild. There was a lot of physical damage done to the region. Most of the best agricultural land were destroyed. Many major cities, like Richmond were destroyed, and farm values diminished. The Confederates believed the Union had limited their constitutional rights to make their own political, social and economic decision. To them the real issue was liberty not slavery. Both the North and the South had slaves, but by the end of the war many slaves were freed and a minority of slaves in the south fled to the union. African Americans weren t allowed to enlists in neither armies, but as the war went on the union admitted black soldiers, but at a lower pay than the whites. ( Foner ... • 4. The New Leader Integration Process The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates for executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the book explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal transfer or an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or external, the process is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs, 2011). The New Leader Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the mutual benefit for both the new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of interviews are conducted with the bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the questions kept confidential (Burroughs, 2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include large customers, suppliers and trustees if needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed, the new executive should have the necessary knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his or her chance for success. The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the organization is based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). In this style of leadership an individual must pass through a series of leader transitional phases, each with their own individual defined passage (Ram Charan, 2001). If the organization ignores the inherent pitfalls of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Watson s Theory Of Human Caring Watson s Carative Factors According to Watson, the ten carative factors of her theory serve as core principles critical to the practice of human caring (Watson, 2012). Watson s theory provides an appropriate framework to help palliative care nurses promote positive outcomes in patients experiencing hopelessness. For example, one of Watson s carative factors encourages patients to promote negative feelings in order to strengthen the nurse patient relationship (McKay, Rajacich, Rosenbaum, 2002). Encouraging patients to vent feelings of hopelessness allows the nurse to provide the patient with proper support. Watson s Theory of Human Caring can be operationalized by demonstration of ten caritas factors in Watson s Caring Factor Survey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nursing Definitions of hopelessness in nursing literature tend to vary. According to the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), hopelessness is a subjective state in which an individual sees limited or unavailable alternatives or personal choices and is unable to mobilize energy on own behalf, (2017, p. 466). NANDA s defining characteristics of hopelessness include, but are not limited to: passivity, lack of involvement in care, decreased appetite and decreased verbalization (2017, p. 466). The concept of hopelessness within the nursing context encompasses cognitive and emotional elements. In her research, Campbell identified four characteristics of hopelessness: negative future expectations, loss of control over future outcomes, passive acceptance, and emotional negativity (Campbell, 1987). Within the nursing context, hopelessness can also be viewed as lack of involvement in one s own care (Kylma, Duggleby, Cooper, Molander, 2005). Another prominent study in nursing, however, focusing on the dynamics of hope and hopeless in palliative care suggested that most of the terminally ill patients attributed their feelings of hopelessness to losses in the past (Olsman, Leget, Duggleby, Willems, 2015). Feelings of hopelessness can also be considered either state of being or a character trait (Dunn, 2005). Hopelessness can also be viewed independently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s uh movin thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from de shape it meets, and it s different with every shore (Hurston 191). This quote states how young he was younger than the other men Janie had married and had fallen in love at first sight. However many people would consider him as sexist for helping Janie. ...he assumes they require men to escort them back home safely (Shmoop). This quote shows how the author of the article believes that Tea Cake is being sexist and does not even write of the possibility of Tea Cake trying to be nice. I would not consider him as a sexist but, I would agree that he did not treat her right. He would lie to Janie right to her face and would try to find ways around tilling the truth. As Janie s story with Tea Cake continues, they go through a storm that would test their love for eachother. Tea Cake stays true to his word and saves his women from a crazy dog. I believe this moment made Janie stay with Tea Cake when he was infected by the dog with rabies. The Rabies would consume Tea Cake alive and turned him into a monster. There was nothing that could be done to save him from a inevitable death. The monster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbolism In Raktakarabi In Rabindranath Tagore s play, Raktakarabi (Red Oleanders, 1924), set in an imaginary town called Yakshapuri ruled under capitalism, minorities are dehumanized and exploited into becoming a source of gold digging machines by a brutal King whose ever growing obsession with wealth had turned him despicable until salvation became apparent in the hands of a woman named Nandini. Nandini is the protagonist and the King is the antagonist of the play. Yakshapuri in Hindu mythology is referred to as the abode of the god of its hoard of treasure. In the play, the King symbolizes the oppressor of both humans and nature by fear and power and Nandini symbolizes the nature that restores its equilibrium by shaking everything into its righteous place by beauty, love and strong character. What s left in between are the oppressed: the miners along with their families who are undoubtedly and hopelessly stuck in a rollercoaster where their freedom is nowhere to be apparent. Imperialism In Philippines 170140076 Natasha Schottland H Modern World History December 22, 2016 Imperialism in the Philippines For over 400 years, the Philippines has been imperialized by the Spanish and the U.S. in order to gain more power. Under their control, there have been many changes to culture, tradition, religion, and language due to heavy influence from both countries. Imperialism is a policy where a country extends its power by conquering other territories through diplomatic or military power. Imperialism is heavily driven by the rise of industry and the need for raw materials to manufacture new firearms and consumer goods. The Spanish treated the Filipinos ruthlessly, forcing taxes, labor, and seizing crops and livestock without proper compensation. The U.S. imperialization caused English to become one of the Philippines main languages, hospitals, schools, and railroad systems were established, and present day Philippine government shares similarities to U.S. government. We see wolves as bloodthirsty savages that prey on the weak, cause havoc, and kill just to attack or to start a fight. Quite the opposite, the wolves only kill for food or when under attack. Their actions are based on their needs. Contrary to the wolves, humans hunt for food but they also do so for pleasure. In reality, the wolves just do what is needed to survive. The author studied the wolves to further document the truths about the lives of wolves and his use of anthropomorphism bring this book to life. However, recent data indicates otherwise, likely as the food fortification occurs to bread which is a relatively affordable and available food eaten by most Australians (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2017). Demonstrating the effects of knowledge, Clarisse and her family, as nonconformist of their society, are intellectual as a result of their exposure to books. During this encounter, Montag observes that her face was [a] fragile milk crystal with a soft constant light in [...] the strangely comfortable and rare and gently flattering light of the candle, (Bradbury 5). The light used to describe Clarisse symbolizes her wisdom that she uses to entice Montag. As a result, she is described in pleasurable way, connoted through Bradbury s use of the words soft, comfortable, and gently flattering. This shows that Clarisse s intellect develops her character as delightful throughout the novel. Unlike Clarisse, other figures in the novel are portrayed through the motif of darkness. The firemen, as conformist, burn books in their society to maintain equality. After his final encounter with Clarisse, Montag observes the firemen in the firehouse as they lit their eternally burning black pipes. They and their charcoal hair and soot colored brows and bluish ash smeared cheeks, (Bradbury 30). The firemen burn books, the essence of knowledge, thus they are responsible for the widespread establishment of ignorance in their society. As a result, the firemen are described with dark features through the words charcoal, ash, and soot. The connotation of these dark adjectives contributes to the characterization of the firemen as destructive, representing their ruination of society. Once LSD has entered the body, it starts to take effects on the levels of serotonin in the brain which can cause; hallucinations, mood change, and even sensory distortion. After taking LSD, the effects on the brain usually last from 6 to 9 hours depending on multiple factors; the dosage of LSD taken, the subject taking LSD, and even the user s mood can affect the duration of LSD use. • 32. Satire In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift There s a Black Friday sale on babies this weekend; eat up! Satire can point out societal inadequacy and ridicule political policies in a way that is humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent. In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift uses exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the meaningless lives of the Irish poor under English rule. Thus, giving his work a wider audience while also serving as a furtherment of Swift s typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the harm caused by the Declaratory Act of 1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate over Ireland with no input from the Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress. Swift contrasts his calm, yet harsh criticism of English politics and the rich upper class with his own passionate beliefs. Swift s satiric pamphlet was not only effective at the time it was published but also in modernity; it remains one of the most well known satiric works in literature today. One of the reasons Swift s writing was so popular was because he wrote in a way people were familiar. A Modest Proposal was written as a pamphlet with the same title common of pamphlets at the time (Williams 51). Before reading through Swift s proposal the work would seem to be ordinary and tired. Swift keeps with the familiarity of the people in his style. Swift masks his satire with a style reminiscent of metaphysical poetry, a style popular in the late 1600s. While A Modest Proposal undoubtedly is not a poem, it mimics the main themes of metaphysical poetry. This style starts and remains a complex work through its entirety, relying heavily on the use of paradox and violence. These cannot be overlooked in Swift s piece; his major plot is killing and eating infants. What separates both metaphysical poetry and Swift s work from other works is its argumentative stance. Most pamphlets of the time would simply offer a humble solution while Swift fights not only with the audience but with himself to embed his main purpose into the audience s brain.
