Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in.
x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at
the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The
buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people
present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There
are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know
that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an
exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this
painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first
element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows,
to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used
to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are
reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in
it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can
be seen on the buildings across the street. This

Mitch Albom s Tuesdays With Morrie
Tuesdays with Morrie is an award winning book based on a true story, written by Mitch Albom. The
novel starts with Albom recalling memories from when he was a student at Brandeis University. He
introduced Morrie Schwartz as his favorite professor whom he has not seen in sixteen years. After
hearing the news that his favorite professor is suffering from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) he
remembers the promise he made to him at graduation, to always keep in touch with him. He decides to
fulfill his promise and travels to see his professor on a Tuesday. Albom visits Morrie over the course
of several Tuesdays until the professor ultimately passes away. Throughout these Tuesdays they
discussed many different topics, which would all fall under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It grabbed my attention that Morrie has reached a thinking style, which differs from the concepts of
materialism that most people in this society believe in. He wondered why some people spend their
lives doing trivial things, such as chasing celebrities and making money only to spend it on things
void of any meaning. Morrie talked about the value of love among people and said, Love each other or
perish . In the end, Morrie began to cry. He did not cry because he was afraid of his inevitable death
but he cried because he did not cry when his mother passed and because his father died before he
could tell him that he loved him. Morrie s ideal day was not a day on the beach in Hawaii, but a day
with his family.
Tuesdays with Morrie is a very interesting book and a very valuable piece of writing. It tells a true
story which we can learn greatly from. Lessons expressed in this book include the importance of love
and relationships, accepting what we are able to do and what we are not, learning to forgive ourselves
and to forgive others, and the fact that it is never too late to start

Availability Improvement For Single Unit System With Two...
AVAILABILITY IMPROVEMENT IN SINGLE UNIT SYSTEM WITH TWO TYPES OF REPAIR
FACILITIES

ABSTRACT
This study deals with the reliability, availability, and busy period characteristics of single unit system.
On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be continued,
otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside is used, which
is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast repair of the unit.
Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for the mean time to
system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using
linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in which
substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed graphically to observe the effect
of the proposed system on Availability.
Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure,
Reliability, Steady State Availability.
1) INTRODUCTION
Competition exists in every field, to keep ahead a major challenge is availability improvement of a
system, as less availability has negative impact. People often use availability and reliability
interchangeably. In fact, however, the two terms are related but have

1990-1991 Gulf War Essay
1990 1991 Gulf War
The Gulf War, also called The Persian Gulf War, was an international armed crisis instigated by Iraq s
invasion to Kuwait in August 1990 and led up to a war against Iraq. The 1990 1991 Gulf War,
according to many war specialists and politicians, represents the first large scale armed demonstration
in the modern history, since World War II, as it involved two fighting parties: a coalition of more than
35 countries including Canada, all against Iraq. Although the decision for the United Nations to wage
war against Iraq was not difficult, Canada remained reluctant to take clear and serious measures in that
regard. The Canadian government and the Canadian citizens had different viewpoints that evolved and

Bush. The latter s influence was so noticeable that Mulroney made decisions regarding Canada s role
in the Persian Gulf Crisis without consulting Cabinet Robert Davis, pp. 16 17).
The change in Canada s military and political stand was significantly dictated by the change of the
Prime Minster. Jean Chrétien, who took over few months after Mulroney, initiated a new trend in the
Canadian stance towards the Gulf War and his decision publicized for that War as an apparent victory
to the coalition, there was a lot of global consternation about that War s legitimacy, costs and results.
The lingering effects of that war were not reflected in the immediate aftermath only, but also in the
subsequent years, afflicting all parties involved in that War.
Although not directly involved, Canada s government supported the action of the coalition and, as part
of the UN, sent off a naval force composed of the HMCS Terra Nova, HMCS Athabascan and the
HMCS Protecteur. Canadian CF 18 jets, with over 500 personnel, were based in Qatar and conducted
air combat and reconnaissance missions. An air transport group supplied cargo plans for personnel and
cargo and over 500 more Canadians served with the British Division as field hospital

The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Essay
The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Hans Kung presented a possible major retransformation
for Roman Catholic Christianity. He believed that
the renewal of the Catholic Church willed by the Second Vatican Council has come to a standstill.
(Kung:1971:9)
The transformation of Roman Catholicism both by the councils of Trent, Vatican I and II was believed
to have been needed in order to look ay the way in which the Christian tradition encapsulates the truth
of the religion. Both the Vatican councils attempted to transform Roman Catholicism.

Criticism of the legalistic, centralistic and rationalistic narrowing of the concepts of faith, doctrine and
infallibility. In addition Kung questioned whether faith depends at all on infallibility statements or on
infallibly true propositions.
In this essay I am going to look at the questions raised by Kung and attempt to critically analyse these
against the doctrine of infallibility. In order to do this I will take each of Kung criticisms of the Roman
Catholic concept of church infallibility, as outlined above and examine them.
The theological concern therefore of Kung is the reform of the Roman Catholic church
against a Biblical and an ecumenical horizon
(Haring:1998:116)
under minding the
stability and immutability of doctrinal statements as guarantees of truth especially when they are
obligated to Vatican I s rationalistic and legalistic concept of faith.
(Haring:1998:116)
For Kung the discussion about infallibility is a discussion about the way in which truth is dealt with
inside the church that it hermeneutical and at the same time related to church practice, it is not a
discussion about the capacity of the Catholic Church for truth.
Kung firstly took the concept of infallibility and questioned its biblical basis. Kung claims that it was
believed by the councils

The Following Chapter Discusses Background Information
The following chapter discusses background information on quadcopters, structural batteries,
graphical user interfaces, and my research objectives. 1.1 Problem Statement The advances in
electronics and lightweight materials over the last few decades have resulted in the popularization of
quadcopters. Whether for recreational, military, or commercial use, people are beginning to recognize
the potential of quadcopters. One company in particular that is looking to exploit the use of drones on
a massive scale is Amazon through their Prime Air program. The goal of Amazon s Prime Air program
is to deliver packages weighing up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less to their customers [1]. While

Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift and
control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway and have
much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using rotary winged
devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a fixed wing aircraft
[2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the quadcopter. Etienne
Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120
horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine. However, due to a lack of control of
individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be varied. To combat this issue, four additional
propellers were attached to better direct the movement of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do
not rely on additional propellers to maneuver themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to
perform virtually any aerial move. Today, quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their
reliability, cost effectiveness and multi functionality. The most widely known uses come from
photography and the military. Quadcopters are constantly seen being used in sports media coverage,
recreational and professional filming,

Diary of a Napoleonic Foot Soldier
During the years 1800 to 1815 Napoleon Bonaparte was preparing a large army. His goal was to
spread the idea of the French Revolution and ultimately expanded France s bountiful pride and glory.
The way this was going to happen, according to Napoleon, was through expanding French territory. In
order to do this he would need a large army, so that involved enlisting men by conscription. The army
was filled with French men, as well as men from Germany and other surrounding areas. The Diary of
a Napoleonic Foot Soldier looks first hand look at the life of an average soldier at the time, Jakob

He did supply the men with clothing, but not the kind of clothing they needed for the Russian winter,
because Napoleon was not expecting for the expansion to take as much time as it did. The men were
not always lacking in food, clothes, and shelter, in some places they were treated well and given
plenty of alcohol and food to keep them occupied. Some areas the men passed through they would
exploit the common people to get ahold of the necessities they needed. From the beginning Walter was
relentless in getting the things that he knew he would need. When he had to requisition food from a
village he found a Jewish man, he had to chase after him and finally caught up to him in an attic of a
house in which there were many women and children. In Walter s own words he said, I took him,
dragged him down the two flights of stairs, and had to hold him by the coat and kick him forward for
two hours, threatening him if he should fail to lead me the right village (pg. 6). This was just one
example of how poorly the common people were treated and this continued throughout every
campaign, but was soon returned to them when they entered into Russia. The soldiers were faced with
attacks from the Cossacks in Russia and

Big Business And Government In The 1920s Essay
America was against involving themselves in the war because they weren t impacted by any of the
agreements that caused the European powers to go to war in the first place. They thought war would
sow death, misery, and reaction throughout the nation but also threatened the firm hand of repression
against disloyalty anticipating battles at home as well as abroad. Basically, war would bring on too
many problems internally if they were to get into external battles. They also supported neutrality in the

money being put into the market to maintain the economy. 200 of the largest corporations controlled
half the corporate wealth and their power led to prices being kept high rather than being determined by

Themes And Characters In The Book Amaroq The Wolf
A. The writer s style is his personal choice dependent on the setting, plot and characters means these
three aspects of the story will be taken by the author and decided how it will best tell his story. The
writer must use his skill with words to develop his style for the story, since the reader is completely at
the mercy of the writer waiting for his words to write so he can feel, hear, see, smell and contemplate
what is going to happen next. The writer must tell the reader what the world looks like and how it
changes, who is in it and where the reader is going. One writer will deal with a genre completely
different from another, developing their own style and vision. Often a writer s style can become so
familiar readers they can recognize the author just from reading a passage.
B. Connotations that greatly extend their dictionary meaning that was noticeable included: sick,
something thought of as extremely cool or nice, feel me is used to expressed an understanding of
dissention. Lastly there was the word stiff indicating someone who is not up to date or full of rules. C.
The use of similes and metaphors were greatly used in the first part of the book called Amaroq the

Nov. 1st, 2016 The originate of uncertainty How does thin sliced judgment compose the society of
United States help us think critically?
The thin sliced judgment, explained most commonly, is the impression we have when we meet
someone or experience something impressive. In the article, On the Face of It: The Psychology of
Electability, Konnikova said Those facial cues, in turn may stem from a far more basic impulse, since

sliced judgment is part of instinct and it is hard for us to change it, it does not limit or stablize our
mind but makes us more creative. This kind of statement could be illustrated by several arguments. In
Johnson s article Race Baiting for the Presidency, it talks about the racism used by the candidates to

Relationships Are Part Of The Society’S Life. As People
Relationships are part of the society s life. As people tend to grow up, we get to know the feeling of

only one person, but to multiple relationships. This is called an open relationship. Open relationship is
an interpersonal relationship where both parties agreed to be together but can develop relationships to
other partners as well. Although this multiple commitment seems to be an easy going and

To test our hypothesis, we will use the Experimental method, where we use scientific research. This is

Western culture has had an impact on traditional Chinese society. The West s impact can be seen in the
advertisement of Western products, acceptance of Western business, and change of thought to accept
Western ideals. Examples of this include the prevalence of foreign companies in the country like
McDonalds, Nike, and Marriott. A change in ideals was expressed by Jaffe (2012) who wrote that
while living in China she noticed that foreign advertisements often featured Western models. Curious
about this she asked her Chinese friends about it. They explained that by Chinese standards big eyes,
fair skin, and a pronounced nose was thought to be beautiful. Western influence in China seems to
only be influencing major cities with villages only being influenced by globalization when it is forced
upon them like it was during the 2008 Olympics when one town was displaced so that Olympic
facilities could be built (Ames, n.d.). Some would also suggest that the influence of Western media
through the use of the internet, or American media had led to a loss of their traditional language as the
people begin to speak chi English (Chang, n.d.). From all of this is plain to see that globalization can
have positive and negative effects upon a society, but a country that refuses to open its doors to the

Ways Of Seeing
What is History but a Fable Agreed Upon Those who control what is known about the past can change
the way a society thinks and behaves. They have the ability to manipulate what actually happened in
the past so that they exploit it for personal, political and even cultural purposes. Although most people
seem to forget, history is usually always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is
obliterated and the winner writes the history books; books which glorify their own cause and

The way we see and perceive this art is predetermined by a variety of different factor ranging from
cultural background to socioeconomic status. A people or a class which is cut off from its own past is
far less free to choose and to act as a people or class than one that has been able to situate itself in
history. This is why and this is the only reason why the entire art of the past has now become a
political issue (J. Berger pg. 33) He argues that if a group of people are robbed of being able to create
their own culturally relative and socially correct standards for art, then they are being oppressed from
engaging as political equals. People use art to understand their place within world history and create
social and political meaning for themselves or their culture. Art gives you the power to control how
people perceive the past, the present and possibly even the future. Although now the ability to control
what art people see isn t as regulated as it once was, but prior to the invention of the camera and the
internet, art was controlled by the minority of the elite and wealthy. the art of the past is being
mystified because a privileged minority is striving to invent a history which can retrospectively justify
the role of the ruling classes and such a justification can no longer make sense in modern terms (J.
Berger, Pg.157). The upper class mystifies the general population to stay in control; without the ability
to see things through our own eyes, people are being deprived of their right to understanding
themselves and placing themselves in a role of society. Mystification contributes a negative influence
on our society. Mystifying of art distinguish upper class and low class, and more importantly causes

Many critics saw Reagan s military tactics as illegitimate. They disagreed with the amount of funding
relegated to military efforts in Central America. These funds were used to intervene in Grenada and El

Reagan saw the Soviets at the heart of every international dispute, from revolution in Central America
to international terrorism in the Middle East. To thwart the Soviets, Reagan called for the largest and
most expensive peacetime military buildup in American history (reaganfoundation). With his telegenic
features and extensive experience in front of a camera from his career in Hollywood, Reagan was

The Onset Of Bulimia Nervosa
The purpose of the study is to identify what may be the onset of bulimia nervosa and whether or not it
is related to a person being subjected to criticism based on their weight/ shape and eating habits. This
is the first of studies that take a look at a year prior to having bulimia nervosa. This study was
conducted through a control case study which is a study that looks at both a group that does have a
disorder and a group that does not have the disorder. It also determines if a factor affects either of the
groups and how that factor affects it. The study observed three separate group of women. The women
with eating disorders were recruited from eating disorder treatment settings, which were women who
were previously diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. The healthy women along with women with a
psychiatric diagnosis were recruited from high schools and university campuses. A total of 180 women
were observed. The first group of sixty women was women who had bulimia nervosa and ranged
between the ages of 15 38. The second group, which were the healthy women, their age ranged from
15 39. The healthy women reported not being diagnosed with any disorder. The last group of sixty
women s ages ranged from 14 38 and they were diagnosed as having psychiatric disorders. The study
was done on all Caucasian women. Women were excluded if they were pregnant, had physical
conditions or psychosis (mental disorder). For the healthy women, they were first evaluated with the

Introduction
The process of globalization is a process determined by different countries need to develop
international relationships. These international relationships are intended to provide countries with
what they need, while providing what other countries need. Some countries require workforce and
have the financial resources it requires, while other countries have this workforce that they can export
and need to increase their financial resources.
The numerous trade agreements developed between different groups of countries reveal the success of
developing such relationships. Countries these trade agreements have reported increased imports and

Rhetorical Devices In The Cask Of Amontillado
For one to convey the explicit and implicit main ideas in one s story, one must employ a multitude of
rhetorical strategies. In Poe s The cask of Amontillado , a horror story in which a man sets out to kill
his friend during a festival, his use of rhetoric allowed him to strike a sense of fear and anticipation
into the audience. However, the main purpose of the rhetoric Poe used is in order to convey the
explicit main idea of revenge and the implicit main idea of the price for foolishness. The explicit main
idea of revenge in The Cask of Amontillado is conveyed to the reader through sundry rhetorical
strategies. For example Montresor, the malefactor of his friend s murder, states that, THE thousand
injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.
From this, it is clearly seen the main idea is revenge. Furthermore, he tells the reader that in order for
his revenge to be satisfactory he must, not only punish but punish with impunity. (Poe 1) In other
words, he must seek revenge in such a manner that Fortunato will not know about him attempting to
gain his vengeance until the last moment.
On the other hand, the implicit main ideas of foolishness and violence are stated much more discreetly
than the explicit main idea. In How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster provides an
explanation for why Poe chose to have Montresor kill Fortunato by stating writers kill off characters
for the same set of reasons make

Essay on Racism in Disney s Aladdin
Racism: discrimination which exemplifies stereotypical differences between the ethnic groups to
which people belong. While Disney animated films are the ideal family movies, it is undisclosed to
many that such racism is being portrayed. Disney s movie Aladdin (1992), was a high profile release,
the winner of two Academy Awards, and one of the most successful Disney films ever produced
(Giroux, 104); however, what is often disregarded is the obvious depiction of careless racism towards
Arabs seen in the illustrations of the characters, the statuses into which they are placed and the lyrics
of the opening song near beginning of the film. Furthermore, with the movie disguising itself as
innocent and wholesome, children are exposed to these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One Arab merchant even tries to cut off Jasmine s hand when she doesn t have money to pay for an
apple she gave to a hungry boy. Not once in the movie does it show a wealthy man living outside the
palace among civilization. This is not only unrealistic but it is also very insulting towards the Arabic
culture. When it comes to the illustrations of his popular characters in Aladdin, Disney proves to be
quite racist. Most of the small part, background characters and especially the bad guys , such as Jafar
and the palace guards, all have incredibly distinct Arabic appearances. Every one of them
stereotypically consists of beards, large noses, sinister eyes, and heavy accents, and they re wielding
swords constantly (Giroux, 104). In contrast, Aladdin the hero, looks and talks like an All American
man. His skin is pale and he wants to be addressed as Al, which is an American name rather than
Arabic. He does not have a beard, big nose, turban, or accent. The key point in this illustration is that
Disney is establishing that Aladdin looks right for the part of a hero, while Jafar looks right for a
villain. Jack Zipes, author of the essay Breaking the Disney Spell , clarifies that though the characters
are fleshed out to become more realistic, they are also one dimensional. There is no character
development because the characters are stereotypes, arranged according to a credo of domestication of
the imagination

My Hero Is A Hero
What Makes My Hero a Hero
The word hero is a small word with a big meaning. A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Depending on who your hero is, and what they
do, show different characteristics. In numerous ways, my Uncle Clint is my personal hero. In my eyes,
his characteristics are: courage, bravery, and selflessness. He is brave because he sacrificed his life to
fight for our country. He rejoined the military when he did not have to, just to be able to serve his
country, knowing he would be deployed. Most people would not want to risk their life, but my Uncle
Clint did. He was willing to go fight and leave his family when others would not. He was hurt early on

My Uncle Clint has always been someone that has been there for me and loved me. In my eyes he
would be a hero to me even if he did not go into the military. Him joining in the military, and rejoining
a second time showed that he did not give up. It showed that, that is something he put his mind to and
was not going to stop until he finished. My Uncle Clint is a strong man who is teaching everyone
around him from right and wrong. He wants the best for everyone he meets. He is not one that will let
his family go without. He makes sure to put everyone else above him. My Uncle Clint will always be
my hero.
What surprises me is how many people look up to him, for example, his son. Wesley wants to join and
serve his country just like his dad. When I see someone who knows my Uncle Clint, they tell me just
how blessed I am for him to be my uncle. It is crazy how he could impact as many lives as he has. He
would lay down his life for anyone. That shows not only me, but everyone who knows him that he
would do anything for anyone. I do not know what still goes through his mind, but he still chooses to
be strong. I learned from the interview that he is strong and will fight for what he believes

Mental Cases And Disabled Essay
The price the survivors of war pay is through the loss of their own bodies and minds. In Wilfred Owen
s poems Mental Cases, and Disabled, the aftermath the devastating effect war has on the people who
participate in it is shown through the pitying voice of an outside speaker. Mental Cases, focuses on the
psychological trauma, showing soldiers who suffer from PTSD and shell shock. Disabled, focuses on
the physical trauma of the soldiers by describing one soldier who has lost his legs and is permanently
disfigured, rendering him unable to enjoy the rest of his life. The psychological trauma of war

means he born without superpowers. In the first episodes, he is attempting to apply to U.A
Highschool. This prestigious school focuses on training heroes, as well as supporters and other fields
associated with hero work. Our young hero meets All might, the symbol of peace and number one
hero, who trains him and passes on the quirk One for All to Midoria. The series then focuses on
Midoria s school life at U.A as well as his growth as a hero with his newly acquired quirk. Midoria is
bullied for being a part of the 20% of the population who do not have a quirk, as seen in the first two
episodes of the series. According to stopbullying.org, about 28% of U.S students in grades 6 12 have

Difference Between Absolute Advantage And Comparative...
1. Explain Opportunity Cost and provide an example. (5 points) Opportunity cost can be defined as a
high valued alternative that must be given up in order to achieve or obtain something else. In other
words, for anything you decide to spend your time doing results in sacrificing the opportunity to
engage in doing something else. The value of the sacrificed alternative can only be determined by the
individual that is choosing to sacrifice it. There are numerous examples of opportunity cost
surrounding us throughout every day. Personally, I face opportunity cost scenarios constantly, both at
my job and at home. The opportunity cost of me being in college is the time I would have spent doing
a number of other things I enjoy, such as spending time with friends and family. However, obtaining
an education and pursuing my goals is extremely important to me, therefore, I must sacrifice other
high valued alternatives that I greatly enjoy. 2. What is the difference between absolute advantage and
comparative advantage? What is the benefit of trade? (5 Points) Comparative advantage occurs when
an individual or firm has the ability to produce a good or service at a lesser opportunity cost than that
of other entities. Absolute advantage occurs when an individual or firm has the ability to produce a
good or service more efficiently and at a lower cost per unit. In other words, an individual or firm that
has the absolute advantage has the ability to produce more of good or service

Throughout the text there are many examples of women having the duty of being a caregiver and the

and vice versa between settings. For example, in Celie s setting, there is a change between the roles of

Electrolysis of copper sulfate has great importance in the mining industry as it is a better metal
extraction process compared to simply mining the ore from the rocks. This is because electrolysis

Electrolysis is the process where an electric current is passed through ionic substances causing them to

are either positively charged or negatively charged. The ionic substance must be dissolved in water or
molten so that the ions are free to move during the process.
During electrolysis, oxidation and reduction takes place. Positively charged ions move to the negative
electrode (cathode) where they receive electrons. This is called reduction. Negatively charged ions
move to the positive electrode (anode) where they are oxidised meaning they lose electrons. This

Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution
Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses
the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians lack
of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies.
During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern
frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant
that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question remains,
therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. There were, after all,
many new Englanders in Nova Scotia, and it remains a serious question as to why they did not ...

Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia were
scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between
settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia.
Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People
did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220)
Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the
geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns.
Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of
intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they
felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British
military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who
sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military
confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger.
In any case, even if Nova Scotians had wanted to participate in the Revolution, they did not really
have the military means to do so in any case. They were weak militarily and the strong British military
presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of

Imports are goods that are brought in from a foreign country to sell here. The people or firms import
goods are usually manufacturers that produce apparel in another country, and wholesalers and retailers
acting as importers. Retailers want to give their customers the best quality products at the lowest
prices. Therefore, ever increasing amounts of textiles, apparel, and accessories are being imported into
the United States and the European Union (EU) because of the availability of cheaper labor in low
wage countries. American and European manufacturers compete with labor rates of 69 cents per hour
in parts of China and 60 cents or less in India. Traditionally, imports were fashion merchandise
designed and produced by foreign designers and manufacturers and purchased by domestic retailers at
international markets. The United States has long imported fashion from Paris, woolens in the British
Isles, sweaters from Scandinavia, and leather goods from Italy. Currently, the European Economic
Community, followed by the United States, is the largest importer of consumer apparel in the world.
Manufacturers source the best fabrics available at low cost to make into garments. U.S. textile and
apparel imports increased from $10 billion in 1982 to $96 billion in 2006. This corresponds to the
enormous growth of the textile industries of China, Korea, Taiwan, and India. One reason for this is
that U.S. manufacturers contracting production overseas tend to use fabrics from

Ever Since The Beginning Of The Internet, Technology Has

enhancing collaborative efforts among organizations. In fact, the origins of the Internet came from the
need to collaborate between research and development institutions and the military (Sutton, 2004).
However, as the Internet continues to evolve, recent hardware and software innovations enable
collaboration at an unprecedented level. This paper will explore an example solution that can resolve
some of the current collaboration challenges for a U.S. Army organization, a cost to benefit analysis of

can leverage the Defense Collaboration Services (DCS) platform. DCS is a web based tool that users
can use to conduct presentations, share files, and conduct white boarding sessions from users at any
location (Pellerin, 2015). In short, DCS enables collaboration at an enterprise level by simply entering
a website address into a web browser. What meeting attendees discuss, share, or develop during a
DCS session goes into OneNote.
Sustainment and Costs to Benefit Analysis
MS OneNote serves as a great solution for the immediate problems of the brigade s staff collaborating

with the 93rd Signal Brigade s 38 geographically separated network enterprise centers. DCS extends
and augments the capabilities over a much wider audience. Since the Army already possesses the
necessary licenses, the initiative does not require funding for implementation. Also, each workstation

Functions Of Management Essay
Functions of Management
The process of working with resources and people in an organization to accomplish a goal can be
defined as management. The traditional functions of management— planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling—continue to be the key activities used to enable the organization to accomplish its goals
and objectives. Though significant changes have occurred in all organizational structures, processes,
and managerial styles, these traditional functions remain a constant. (Anderson Pulich, 2002, para 1)
To be effective in any organization a manager must posses these skills.

A manager s effort to stimulate high performance by its employees is the function of leading (Bateman
Snell, 2007). This seems to be a very logical step in the functions of management. After all you have a
company and mangers that have spent countless hours planning for it s success and future, they ve
identified the various parts of which an employee can be successful now they must motivate and
encourage that employee so that they might offer the most benefit to the company and it s profitability.
Within the company that I work at, the management team is forever trying to motivate its employees.
They are always holding competitions and then once a month they also recognize those top performers
with awards and plaques in front of the entire department. They also lead by example, which is huge
moral booster. They tend to ask anything of you that they wouldn t or have not done themselves. My
company is a big proprietor of promotions from within, so most in management know what it s like to
be low man on the rung and they are always conscious of that and do what they can to make sure the
employees are working in a fun yet professional atmosphere.
The final function of management is the function of controlling. A major component of controlling is
monitoring. When managers implement their plans, they often find that things are not working out as
planned. The controlling function makes sure that goals are met. It asks and

Qualitative Research Is Good At Simplifying And Managing...
Qualitative research is good at simplifying and managing data without destroying complexity and
context. Qualitative methods are highly appropriate for questions where preemptive reduction of the
data will prevent discovery. If the purpose is to learn from the participants in a setting or a process the
way they experience it, the meanings they put on it, and how they interpret what they experience, the
researcher needs methods that will allow for discovery and do justice to their perceptions and the
complexity of their interpretations. Qualitative methods have in common the goal of generating new
ways of seeing existing data. If the purpose is to construct a theory or a theoretical framework that
reflects reality rather than the researchers own perspective or prior research results, one may need
methods that assist the discovery of theory in data. If the purpose is to understand phenomena deeply
and in detail, the researcher needs methods for discovery of central themes and analysis of core
concerns. Each of these suggestions has a flip side. If one knows what is being hypothesized and what
they are likely to find, if one do not need to know the complexity of others understandings, if one is
testing prior theory rather than constructing new frameworks, or if one is simply describing a situation
rather than deeply analyzing it, it is possible that one should not be working qualitatively. Perhaps the
research question that one is tackling with in depth interviews would be

What Is The Mood Of Chapter 9 Of Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies Chapter 9 Structural Analysis
In his novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding writes an unsettling story about the horrific reality of
human nature and the battle one faces between humanity and savagery when civilization is taken
away. Set during World War III, a group of boys aged six to twelve years old are stranded on an island
with no resources except the ones they can acquire from the island. The boys create a civilization with
rules for themselves in order to survive. As the novel progresses, the civilization unravels and the boys
humanity lays on a fragile line, bordering on savagery. In his novel, Golding uses many structural
elements to achieve a specific effect on the reader. One specific example is in the haunting passage in
which the boys are overcome by bloodlust to kill the Beast and eventually murder one of their own,
Simon. By using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the boys bloodlust increases, they chant, Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! The

throughout the passage as the boys got closer and closer to killing the beast. By doing this, Golding
shows how determined the boys were on killing the beast. The repeated chant is a constant reminder of
their final goal, to brutally kill the beast. This causes an unsettling feeling for the reader because the
closer Simon s murder gets, the more the boys bloodlust increases. The continuous chant about
spilling the beast s blood implies a horribly brutal and bloody death for Simon as the boys cannot
recognize the difference between Simon and the Beast in their animal like state, causing the reader to
feel unsettled about the future and Simon s fate. Thus, by repeating the chant of the boys, Golding
emphasizes the increasing bloodlust as the boy s pounce on their prey, Simon, creating an unsettling

Comparing The Things They Carried And Sorrow By Tim O
The poem Sorrow by Martin Dejnicki shares many similar themes with The Things They Carried by
Tim O brien. Both works of writing display war as a painful and and traumatizing experience.
However, this poem reflects the message in The Things They Carried chapter, Sweetheart of the Song
Tra Bong most accurately. Both the chapter and the poem share the theme that war can take away a
person s humanity. In the lines, We ve dug a hole, called a trench, Humanity is gone, replaced with
stench (Dejnicki) the author is trying to convey that a soldier in war can have their humanity striped
away and uses the symbolism of stench to describe the foul persona that may replace it. In Sweetheart

Restructuring Human Resources Management at Gulf Oil Company
Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, in order to quickly respond to the increasing demand on oil and to the
increasingly strict stipulations this market imposes, saw an opportunity to expand its refining capacity
and introduce the latest technology in the oil refining industry. To reach this goal it developed long
and medium strategic plans. As part of the long term strategies, managers were required to clearly
express the Mission, Vision and Strategic objectives of the company and the individual departments
combining them into a final, comprehensive plan. One of these departments was the Human
Resources Department, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the company actually lacks the competence or resources needed to hire new employees
remains uncertain, it might prove beneficiary to outsource the recruitment process to a recruitment
specialist agency. Allowing the employees to be more involved in the decision making process is
another adjustment that might improve the contentment. Making room for suggestions, and rewarding
the most important and feasible ones, could solve the problems GOC has with unhappy and frustrated
staff, as well as the ones related with absence. Furthermore, by involving each employee in the
process and letting them see how their own goals are aligned with the ones of the company, we can
expect much more motivation and dedication from the staff, which ultimately leads to a higher
performance associated with competitive advantage, and thus power in the market place.

recommend that a fusion of departments is made, clearly defining the proper functions, as well as
fixing the hierarchical structure in order for the information to flow horizontally in an easier and more
efficient way, hopefully improving the time

dessert options will be perfect to help sate your sweet tooth.

Peanut butter is full of protein, which is a necessity for anyone looking to build strong muscles. In
addition, peanut butter also had omega 3s and magnesium to improve muscle function and growth.
The dark chocolate chips also have health benefits for growing muscle such as antioxidants, protein
and fiber to help curb your appetite and improve digestion. The honey also has natural sugars that give
you a boost of energy and help reduce muscle fatigue.
Mix together one quarter cup of flax seed, one tablespoon of honey, two thirds of a cup of peanut
butter and one scoop of chocolate protein powder. Add two tablespoons of dark chocolate chips and

  • 2. Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in. x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mitch Albom s Tuesdays With Morrie Tuesdays with Morrie is an award winning book based on a true story, written by Mitch Albom. The novel starts with Albom recalling memories from when he was a student at Brandeis University. He introduced Morrie Schwartz as his favorite professor whom he has not seen in sixteen years. After hearing the news that his favorite professor is suffering from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) he remembers the promise he made to him at graduation, to always keep in touch with him. He decides to fulfill his promise and travels to see his professor on a Tuesday. Albom visits Morrie over the course of several Tuesdays until the professor ultimately passes away. Throughout these Tuesdays they discussed many different topics, which would all fall under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It grabbed my attention that Morrie has reached a thinking style, which differs from the concepts of materialism that most people in this society believe in. He wondered why some people spend their lives doing trivial things, such as chasing celebrities and making money only to spend it on things void of any meaning. Morrie talked about the value of love among people and said, Love each other or perish . In the end, Morrie began to cry. He did not cry because he was afraid of his inevitable death but he cried because he did not cry when his mother passed and because his father died before he could tell him that he loved him. Morrie s ideal day was not a day on the beach in Hawaii, but a day with his family. Tuesdays with Morrie is a very interesting book and a very valuable piece of writing. It tells a true story which we can learn greatly from. Lessons expressed in this book include the importance of love and relationships, accepting what we are able to do and what we are not, learning to forgive ourselves and to forgive others, and the fact that it is never too late to start ... Email:gkbhatti2289@gmail.com ABSTRACT This study deals with the reliability, availability, and busy period characteristics of single unit system. On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast repair of the unit. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed graphically to observe the effect of the proposed system on Availability. Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure, Reliability, Steady State Availability. 1) INTRODUCTION Competition exists in every field, to keep ahead a major challenge is availability improvement of a system, as less availability has negative impact. People often use availability and reliability interchangeably. In fact, however, the two terms are related but have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1990 1991 Gulf War, according to many war specialists and politicians, represents the first large scale armed demonstration in the modern history, since World War II, as it involved two fighting parties: a coalition of more than 35 countries including Canada, all against Iraq. Jean Chrétien, who took over few months after Mulroney, initiated a new trend in the Canadian stance towards the Gulf War and his decision publicized for that War as an apparent victory to the coalition, there was a lot of global consternation about that War s legitimacy, costs and results. In order to do this I will take each of Kung criticisms of the Roman Catholic concept of church infallibility, as outlined above and examine them. The theological concern therefore of Kung is the reform of the Roman Catholic church against a Biblical and an ecumenical horizon (Haring:1998:116) under minding the stability and immutability of doctrinal statements as guarantees of truth especially when they are obligated to Vatican I s rationalistic and legalistic concept of faith. (Haring:1998:116) For Kung the discussion about infallibility is a discussion about the way in which truth is dealt with inside the church that it hermeneutical and at the same time related to church practice, it is not a discussion about the capacity of the Catholic Church for truth. Kung firstly took the concept of infallibility and questioned its biblical basis. Kung claims that it was believed by the councils

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike conventional airplanes, rotary winged aircrafts have a fundamental advantage in that lift and control are relatively independent of forward speed. Rotary aircrafts do not need a runway and have much more freedom and maneuverability in the air. Despite early efforts to fly using rotary winged devices as well as the mentioned advantages, the first successful flight came from a fixed wing aircraft [2]. The development of rotor technology paved the path for the creation of the quadcopter. Etienne Oehmichen successfully built the first quadrotor in 1922 called the Oehmichen No. 2. A single 120 horsepower engine powered the four rotors of this machine. However, due to a lack of control of individual rotors, the altitude and orientation could not be varied. To combat this issue, four additional propellers were attached to better direct the movement of the quadrotor [3]. Modern quadcopters do not rely on additional propellers to maneuver themselves. Instead, each rotor can be manipulated to perform virtually any aerial move. Today, quadcopters are used in many areas of industry due to their reliability, cost effectiveness and multi functionality. The most widely known uses come from photography and the military. Quadcopters are constantly seen being used in sports media coverage, recreational and professional filming, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Rhetorical Devices In The Cask Of Amontillado For one to convey the explicit and implicit main ideas in one s story, one must employ a multitude of rhetorical strategies. In Poe s The cask of Amontillado , a horror story in which a man sets out to kill his friend during a festival, his use of rhetoric allowed him to strike a sense of fear and anticipation into the audience. However, the main purpose of the rhetoric Poe used is in order to convey the explicit main idea of revenge and the implicit main idea of the price for foolishness. The explicit main idea of revenge in The Cask of Amontillado is conveyed to the reader through sundry rhetorical strategies. For example Montresor, the malefactor of his friend s murder, states that, THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. From this, it is clearly seen the main idea is revenge. Furthermore, he tells the reader that in order for his revenge to be satisfactory he must, not only punish but punish with impunity. (Poe 1) In other words, he must seek revenge in such a manner that Fortunato will not know about him attempting to gain his vengeance until the last moment. On the other hand, the implicit main ideas of foolishness and violence are stated much more discreetly than the explicit main idea. In How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster provides an explanation for why Poe chose to have Montresor kill Fortunato by stating writers kill off characters for the same set of reasons make ... The key point in this illustration is that Disney is establishing that Aladdin looks right for the part of a hero, while Jafar looks right for a villain. Jack Zipes, author of the essay Breaking the Disney Spell , clarifies that though the characters are fleshed out to become more realistic, they are also one dimensional. There is no character development because the characters are stereotypes, arranged according to a credo of domestication of the imagination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exploration of the world was a key value of mine and the tales of New York City were fascinating: a place where various cultures and ethnicities collided, blending into a hub of globalization. This sense of adventure and discovery never left, and neither did my fascination with New York City as a central part of a globalizing world. In numerous ways, my Uncle Clint is my personal hero. In my eyes, his characteristics are: courage, bravery, and selflessness. He is brave because he sacrificed his life to fight for our country. He rejoined the military when he did not have to, just to be able to serve his country, knowing he would be deployed. Most people would not want to risk their life, but my Uncle Clint did. (5 points) Opportunity cost can be defined as a high valued alternative that must be given up in order to achieve or obtain something else. In other words, for anything you decide to spend your time doing results in sacrificing the opportunity to engage in doing something else. The value of the sacrificed alternative can only be determined by the individual that is choosing to sacrifice it. There are numerous examples of opportunity cost surrounding us throughout every day. Personally, I face opportunity cost scenarios constantly, both at my job and at home. The opportunity cost of me being in college is the time I would have spent doing a number of other things I enjoy, such as spending time with friends and family. However, obtaining an education and pursuing my goals is extremely important to me, therefore, I must sacrifice other high valued alternatives that I greatly enjoy. 2. What is the difference between absolute advantage and comparative advantage? What is the benefit of trade? (5 Points) Comparative advantage occurs when an individual or firm has the ability to produce a good or service at a lesser opportunity cost than that of other entities. Absolute advantage occurs when an individual or firm has the ability to produce a good or service more efficiently and at a lower cost per unit. • 33. Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians lack of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies. During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question remains, therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia were scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia. Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220) Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns. Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger. In any case, even if Nova Scotians had wanted to participate in the Revolution, they did not really have the military means to do so in any case. Imports are goods that are brought in from a foreign country to sell here. The people or firms import goods are usually manufacturers that produce apparel in another country, and wholesalers and retailers acting as importers. Retailers want to give their customers the best quality products at the lowest prices. Therefore, ever increasing amounts of textiles, apparel, and accessories are being imported into the United States and the European Union (EU) because of the availability of cheaper labor in low wage countries. American and European manufacturers compete with labor rates of 69 cents per hour in parts of China and 60 cents or less in India. Traditionally, imports were fashion merchandise designed and produced by foreign designers and manufacturers and purchased by domestic retailers at international markets. The United States has long imported fashion from Paris, woolens in the British Isles, sweaters from Scandinavia, and leather goods from Italy. Currently, the European Economic Community, followed by the United States, is the largest importer of consumer apparel in the world. Manufacturers source the best fabrics available at low cost to make into garments. U.S. textile and apparel imports increased from $10 billion in 1982 to $96 billion in 2006. This corresponds to the enormous growth of the textile industries of China, Korea, Taiwan, and India. • 37. Qualitative Research Is Good At Simplifying And Managing... Qualitative research is good at simplifying and managing data without destroying complexity and context. Qualitative methods are highly appropriate for questions where preemptive reduction of the data will prevent discovery. If the purpose is to learn from the participants in a setting or a process the way they experience it, the meanings they put on it, and how they interpret what they experience, the researcher needs methods that will allow for discovery and do justice to their perceptions and the complexity of their interpretations. Qualitative methods have in common the goal of generating new ways of seeing existing data. If the purpose is to construct a theory or a theoretical framework that reflects reality rather than the researchers own perspective or prior research results, one may need methods that assist the discovery of theory in data. If the purpose is to understand phenomena deeply and in detail, the researcher needs methods for discovery of central themes and analysis of core concerns. Each of these suggestions has a flip side. If one knows what is being hypothesized and what they are likely to find, if one do not need to know the complexity of others understandings, if one is testing prior theory rather than constructing new frameworks, or if one is simply describing a situation rather than deeply analyzing it, it is possible that one should not be working qualitatively.
