Nursing Reflection on Pressure Sores Essay
Critical incident The aim of this reflection is to describe my personal experience in wound care and its
management. Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle has been adapted in order to provide structure to the
reflection process. Description At the care home I had to nurse many client s who had developed
pressure sores. One particular wound stands out from the rest, it belonged to a lady in her late 70 s
who was immobile and suffers from incontinence and slight dementia. Her wound was extremely
large on her sacrum, black and very hard. At this point was extremely discoloured (black) but the skin
was intact and only had a light exudate. However there was evidence of full thickness skin loss which
was masked by the necrotic tissue, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have learnt the importance of good communication and how it is essential for building trust. (Spouse
et al 2008). I did feel a little vulnerable however but experience gave me the confidence to give the
correct level of information. I have learnt that I need to show sensitivity and give the correct amount
of information that was required to facilitate their reassurance. Evaluation Although the situation was
quite challenging, it provided me with some useful experiences for the future practice. I understand
that all institutions should have a policy for documenting the assessment of patients, including
pressure ulcers (Morison 2001). I have come to be familiar with the homes assessment policy using
the Sterling Pressure Sore Severity Scale and most importantly I have learned that by using a universal
assessment tool it supports a systemic and consistent approach to pressure ulcer evaluation. This
therefore supporting continuity of care. I have significantly developed my skill in wound care
assessment and dressing, in developing this skill I now recognize the importance of documenting each
dressing. Morison (2001) supports this in saying that by detailing pressure ulcer assessment it provides
a basis for deciding the effectiveness of the current treatment. Conclusion Skin tears and pressure
ulcers are frequently seen in the elderly and care home residents are prime candidates (Stephen

Review and Discussion of the Article The Future of...
This reading essay is a review of the following article:
Windsor, D. (2001). The future of corporate social responsibility. International Journal of
Organizational Analysis, 9 (3): 225 256.
Duane Windsor, via the aforementioned article regarding the future of social responsibility, purports
there are three emerging alternatives or competitors to responsibility: (1) an economic conception of
responsibility; (2) global corporate citizenship; and (3) stakeholder management practices (pg. 225).
Windsor first provides a historical reflection of social responsibility beginning in the Progressive Era
through the twentieth century and concludes with predictions for the future of corporate social
responsibility. Corporate social responsibility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carroll s pyramid model inspired debate between how people ought to behave and how people are
likely to behave and that behavior may come to dominate theory by appeal to the desirability of
material outcomes (pg. 235). The historical reflection Windsor provided led him to his thesis of the
three emerging alternative or competitors to responsibility. Economic conception of responsibility,
emerging alternative #1, links wealth and social welfare. By definition, organizations that do not focus
on financial profits are labeled not for profit organizations. Windsor s second cited emerging
alternatives to responsibility focuses on recent movement involving global corporate citizenship. He
explains this alternative as a marriage of societal expectations of corporations to their community and
management obligations to their firm. The more powerful and wealth the firm, the greater that firm s
responsibilities to neighbors and the community must be (pg. 242). Windsor s third emerging
alternative is regarding stakeholder management practices. Management psychologies vary widely
amongst theorists yet revolve around prioritization of profits.
Corporate social responsibility seems to be a topic needing additional research and discussion. As a
former law enforcement office, laws and regulation make sense to me. Since I was a young child, I
thrived on structure and discipline. This has made things difficult for me at times as many

The Importance Of Having A Music Program In Schools
In the article Superintendents Speak up for Music Education by Karen Cross, it was all about how the
superintendents in four different districts viewed the music program. The four districts that they
focused on were Fort Bend ISD, Dripping Springs ISD, Klein ISD, and Mesquite ISD. This article
was more in an interview format, every superintended was asked the same question. The four of them
seemed to agree on one thing, that is the importance of having a music program in the schools. When
asked about some of the benefits that students attain from being in a music program, they all agreed
that it helps them develop life skills. The music program can be seen as a relaxing class by many
students. When using the word relaxing, I am not referring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This article was mainly about how he was able to turn the Pecos High School band from being

are not familiar with the grading scale for UIL or any competition in band, a four would be considered
the lowest score you can obtain. After Mauldin arrived and was in charge of the band, the band saw a

Farm subsidy payments are over $10 billion and are authorized to make payments to people who aren

over 10 years (para. 6). As long as you owned the farmland, you don t even have to be growing
anything and you would continue to receive a subsidy check (para. 3). Bottom line is all these billions
of dollars in government subsidies contribute to lowering the cost of processed foods; not a good

10)! Edwards actually calls for the repeal of farmer subsidies and claims agriculture would thrive
without subsidies (para 40). He further claims that: It is normal for people to fear economic change,
but many industries have been radically reformed in recent decades with positive results, including the
airline, trucking, telecommunications and energy industries. If farm subsidies were ended, and
agriculture markets deregulated and open to entrepreneurs, farming would change different crops
would be planted, land usage would change.... But a stronger and more innovative industry would
likely emerge having greater resilience to shocks and downturns (para. 40). I agree with Edwards as he
makes a good argument that if other companies can survive economic change without a bailout, why
can t the farm industry do the same? He also states the whole system is practically corrupt because of
political involvement in the process as the many legislators have an interest in increasing the USDA s
budget (para. 6). The whole system needs reform and subsidies need to be reduced or repealed.
Another reason to reduce the government subsidies is because another by product of corn that is
produced in overabundance is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which has replaced pure cane sugar

Summary Of H. M. Irwing s Curve Couture
Curve Couture by H. M. Irwing starts with Claire Williams royally messing up! Claire has always
stuck out in the cutthroat world of modeling, and being a plus sized woman surrounded by svelte and
hunky supermodels day in and day out has done a number on her self confidence. What started as
commiseration and comfort with her sister s fiancé, Colin, swiftly became her first time going all the
way. Claire is consumed by guilt for betraying her sister, Janice. The problem is that Janice, a well
known supermodel, is also Claire s one and only client. Upon deciding that she can no longer
represent her sister after her ultimate betrayal, Claire approaches retired male supermodel turned
agent, Erin Robertson. She begs Erin to take on Janice as a client; however, Erin refuses and shocks
Claire by asking to sign her on as a plus sized model instead.
What follows is a swift and awkwardly produced romance between Claire and Erin. Claire, who has
never attracted male attention until her slip up with Colin, has suddenly become desirable in the eyes
of all single, straight men who cross her path. Erin is no different as he works to mold Claire into a
successful plus sized model, complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Claire s disposition changes quickly enough to give the reader whiplash as she rapidly transitions
between happy, furious, contrite, and dejected in the span of two pages. Claire is constantly becoming
irrationally enraged with people and situations, only to dissolve into a crying mess at the slightest
provocation. Erin s character is portrayed as more of a sexual predator who won t take no as an answer
than as an attractive love interest. The couple s relationship just sets the stage for a mixed up jumble
of poorly written sexual situations, peppered with weak plotlines involving other poorly developed

First Electronics Project
For the first Electronics Project, my team worked together to build a circuit and used a Multimeter to
measure multiple elements of the circuit. There were three tasks, one assigned to each member of the
group. There was a task assigned to each group member: Circuit builder, measurer, and the data
collector/calculator. Because of this group collaboration, we were able to work quickly and efficiently
to get the project done on time. This project was definitely a learning experience for all of us because
this was the first time we had been expected to build a circuit. We worked together and followed the
instructions step by step. The measurements we were expected to take included resistance, voltage,
and current which is what the data collector used to calculate theoretical values for the upcoming
measurements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We related the three measurements through Ohms Law which recognizes the equation to calculate for
voltage, resistance, or current. For me, the most useful aspect of the project was learning how to build
a circuit and measure values of resistance, current, and voltage with a Multimeter. At first, I did not
know what the measurements meant, but after my teammates helped me understand how the
measurements are correlated to the theoretical calculations and the circuit as a whole, I better
understood how the circuit worked as well as what the measurements signified. Because of this
project, I have significantly developed my understanding of circuit analysis and circuit building. This
knowledge is essential to me as a learner because I believe that understanding correlations between

Afghanistan
Current Problem:
The current problem that is occurring in Afghanistan is the fact that American soldiers are over at
Afghanistan right now. After the 9/11 attack, President George W. Bush puts together a plan to attack
Afghanistan. America sends over a warning, to either turn over Osama bin Laden, the man in charge
of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, or we ll bomb you. After Afghanistan refused to turn him over, due to lack
of evidence that he was in charge of the 9/11 attacks, America, with the help of it s allies, countries
like the United Kingdom and the Northern Alliance, bombed Afghanistan. Through all of this
madness, Osama bin Laden escaped. After all the stuff that just happened in Afghanistan, President
George W. Bush called for America to reconstruct Afghanistan . This would include going over there,
building a new government, and helping the people of Afghanistan to live a nonviolent life. After a
decade of America being in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden being killed, and two new presidents in
Afghanistan, we are left with a big problem, American soldiers are still in Afghanistan, and we have
no idea when they will be able to come back. We can not just take some helicopters, fly over to
Afghanistan, pick up our troops, and fly back to America. The reason why we can t is because
Afghanistan s government is too unstable. Another problem with American troops being stuck in
Afghanistan are that the Taliban

The Components of Mishel’s Uncertainty of Illness Theory...
BACKGROUND
Mishel s Uncertainty of Illness Theory is a middle range theory (Black, 2014). This means the theory
is not overly broad or narrow. The theory was developed from studying men with prostate cancer who
were watchfully waiting for the advancing signs of their disease (Black, 2014). The theory has three
main components, which incorporate: the antecedents of uncertainty, impaired cognitive appraisal, and
coping with uncertainty in illness (Neville, 2003). The antecedents of Mishel s theory are the stimulus
frame, cognitive capacities and event congruence (Neville, 2003). The stimulus frame concerns three
parts including: symptom pattern, event familiarity and event congruency (Neville, 2003). Symptom
pattern may be when symptoms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study is based on uncertainty management intervention (UMI) treatment option. The candidates
for the study were men who are 65 and older with a low stage and grade prostate disease. The UMI
study used a system of nursing telephone follow up care to help patients with their psychosocial and
educational disease needs (Kazer, Whittemore, Baily, 2010). The nursing intervention with the patients
focused on helping the patients examine illness related events and restructure their beliefs... to
incorporate uncertainty into a new life view. (Kazer, Whittemore Baily, 2010) The nursing
intervention s goal was to create a cognitive plan from events that are uncertain and use the plan to
change their view of the uncontrollable situation presented to them.
Miho Suzuki s study aimed to explore the relationships between uncertainty and the quality of life in
patients with head and neck cancer in pre and post treatment periods. Suzuki intended to discover
whether patients with head and neck cancer experience less uncertainty when they think they are able
to express their concerns to their doctor. Also, Suzuki wanted to assess if the patients experienced less
uncertainty when involved with treatment decision making and sufficient information about
symptoms. Suzuki used a prospective correlational

I think so, Emily said.
Emily imagined all the security cameras shutting off.
I m assuming the security cameras are off, Emily said.
Good, Shelly said. Let s go.
The teenagers quietly made their way to the fence. Emily took a few steps forward. But an alarm
sounded.
What do we do? Allison asked.
I don t know, Shelly said.
The security guards captured them. The security guards blindfolded the teenagers and they put them in
handcuffs. The security guards then took the teenagers on a bus. The teenagers had a long journey. But
eventually, they arrived to an unknown location. Even though the teenagers had their blindfolds on,
they knew that they have entered a building.
Eventually, somebody took off the teenagers blindfolds and their handcuffs. They were in a cell with
no windows nor beds. But there were benches to sit on, a toilet, a sink, and carpet on the floor.
Welcome to prison, Skienski said. The purpose of our refugee camps is to help you become citizens of
our country. By trying to break out, you are breaking your refugee status. Therefore, you re considered
to be illegal immigrants. So you will all stay in this cell until your trails. Enjoy each other s company.

spoke up about a minute later.

Journal Question 1
Building on the Okun s law, which basically describes a vibrant relationship that exist between
national output and unemployment within which a fall unemployment results into higher national
output, A. W. Phillips extended to discover the relationship between inflation and unemployment. The
string of the basic ideas which revolve around this belief follows that as more individuals work then
the national output rises, causing an increase in the wages, a situation that makes the consumers to
have supplementary money and willing to spend more, this ultimately results in the consumers
demanding more services and goods triggering the prices of services and goods to increase. Ideally,
the Phillips curve shows that inflation and unemployment shares an inverse relationship where as
inflation raises then the unemployment falls. In other words, if the economy tends to experience an
increase in the aggregate demand it will automatically cause an increase in the output; just as the
economy approaches full employment, further experiencing a rise within its inflation. On the other
hand, with the rise in real gross domestic product, firms workers resulting to a decline within the
unemployment. In the short run, it will be noted that the Phillips curve tends to have a downward
slope, signifying a potential tradeoff between unemployment and inflation. The Phillips curve, on the
other hand, tends to be vertical in the long run implying that there is possibility of the

Video Games Help Children With Special Educational Needs
This paper explains how video games help children with special educational needs, should children
have certain technologies (I.e. phones, tablets, etc.) readily available, and what children enjoy about
playing video games. [METHODS?] The findings from this research are that children s fascination in
video games, whether with typical development or not, mainly involves the thrill of challenges and the
feeling of achievement when winning. When playing video games, children do learn alternate ways to
solve problems. Children who play video games may think and learn differently than those who do not
play. Those who tend to cheat in a video games may also do the same when academics are involved. A
child s academic ethics and effort seems to reflect when playing video games. In other words, children
who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics
are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational
needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being
bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to
solve problems.
Technology s Impact on Childhood Development
Ever since video games were introduced to the world, the topic on whether or not they benefit or
decline a child s progress was a concerning and alarming question. This topic has steadily grown in

When parties present themselves to the court alleging that one of them refused to perform according to

This case involved elderly relatives convincing a young couple to dispose their house and relocate
with them. The elderly relatives promised them that they would give the young couple a share in their
house in return. However, their relationship fell out, and the elderly couple dismissed the young
couple. When the matter went to the court, the court rebutted the presumption given to the domestic
agreements and held that the agreement was enforceable. Similarly, in the case of (Merritt v Merritt,
1970) the court rebutted the presumption both the husband and wife in had no intention to form a legal
relationship in their agreement. So like this case, Brett should not assume that the court will be blinded
by the fact that he was contracting with his uncle. The court will look at the subject matter of the
agreement which is the sale of a car. Question (b): Acceptance by Conduct The law of contract
dismisses any thought that the acceptance can occur by the silence from the offeree. On the other side,
it also explains to what extent a silence can indicate a sign of acceptance. However, it s not a silence
as such. It s a situation where the offeree s conduct demonstrates an acceptance of an offer. For
instance, in (Brogden v. Metropolitan Railway Co, 1877), the court held that the plaintiff accepted the
offer the moment he made the amendments and sent the draft to the defendant. Also, the court traced a

Characteristics Of The Classical Era Of Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven was recognized as a great composer in western music. Beethoven was also
known for creating the bridge between the classical and romantic era of music. He is known for doing
this because he took key aspects of the classical era and merged them with key aspects of the romantic
era. The classical era of music dates from 1775 1825. The classical music era had a lighter and more
clear texture (Kamien 161). The music from this era was mainly homophonic meaning that the music
had one part or melody that dominated all other parts or melodies (Kamien 160). Classical era music
also really focused on; how graceful and beautiful the melody and the form were, proportion and
balance, moderation, and control. The music was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most composers worked for dignity, Beethoven did not feel the need to. He could compose on
his own time and sell a work when he needed or wanted money. Beethoven had the honor of having an
extensive influence. He earned his title as one of the greatest composers of his time because of his
ability to bridge the classic era of music to the romantic era of music. At the start of his musical career,
Beethoven was considered an exceptional pianist, not a great composer.
In 1798 Beethoven noticed that he had started to become deaf. He would spend the following thirty
years writing and composing music with major hearing loss. From his mid twenties to about three
months before his death, Beethoven did not stop composing and writing music. Beethoven drew his
musical inspiration from many sources. Beethoven also created the bridge between the classical and
romantic periods. Most of his work didn t completely fit into any one period s characteristics. If you
listen to Beethoven s compositions as he progressed as a composer, they could be divided into three
periods. The first is commonly known as his imitation period, the period when he took the styles,
mechanics, and techniques of other composers. He mimicked; Bach, Haden, as well as Mozart. Next,
he had the period of externalization, a time when he developed his own style and reveled in it. Thirdly

How Did The October Revolution Affect The Bolsheviks
After overthrowing the Provisional Government and forming the Sovnarkom socialist government in
the October Revolution (1917), the Bolsheviks were hampered by problems that arose over social,
political and economic factors, however to consolidate their power, they used means of sabotage and
appeasing the population. Many decrees were published to placate the masses, such as the Decree on
land and the Decree on Workers Control, to control the economic situation. Politically, the Bolsheviks
formed the Cheka to expose and investigate all counter revolutionary and criminal activities. What
sparked the consolidation of power was the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly.

The Bolsheviks were concerned about their abilitiy to remain in control. This is because the October
Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent Assembly
from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917) occurred and the
results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the assembly, they were
outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had the majority with 52%.
Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of an assembly because to
hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to compromise with the malignant
bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent
Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a long day of negotiations and disagreements
between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am.
When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened session, they found that the Tauride Palace was
locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who presented them with a decree declaring that the
Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for
them the principle instrument of political persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives
behind dissolving the assembly. This contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist
Republic (RSFSR), who formally came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to
remain firmly in power. Thus, concluding that the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly allowed the
Bolsheviks to establish the RSFSR, which ultimately consolidated their power at that

Thereby, Imoinda s loss of identity is complete: She has lost her agency, her name, her life and even
her face has been torn off. She suffered all these brutalities by the hands of men who either wanted to
possess her or claimed to love her (in Oroonoko s case both). The narrative ends with her as the
narrator states: Yet, I hope, the reputation of my pen is considerable enough to make his glorious name
to survive to all ages, with that of the brave, the beautiful, and the constant Imoinda (Behn, Oroonoko

end of the narrative whose face was torn

Disadvantages Of Mongols
Throughout history the Mongols have continuously demonstrated a remarkable ability of pioneering
strategic and effective methods of successfully conquering more structurally organized civilizations
than themselves. Their life as pastoral nomads produced numerous harsh obstacles to overcome when
faced with larger and more complex groups of people. However, their lack of manpower was
combated by their tenacious and fierce warrior like mindset which propelled them into unprecedented
prosperity. As a matter of fact, their most notable achievement was their striking capability to bring all
of Eurasia under one central central something that at the time, was inconceivable. Through this, the
Mongols established the practice of allowing their subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Khubilai also suppressed Daoism because it engaged in religious warfare between Buddhism. He
issued punitive action against the Daoists who had set a fire to a Buddhist temple (Cho 6). These
accounts highlight that there was an active and constant struggle between Buddhism and other
religious sects that disrupted the Mongol Empire internally. With the inclusion of numerous religions
came a constant wave of struggles between the religious sects vying for power. However, since
Khubilai was an advocate for Buddhism, any and every act targeting that religion resulted in fierce
punishment. Yet, if the Khan favored the perpetrating faith and perceived little threat to his authority,
there would most likely have been little political action taken against it. Unfortunately for the Bri gung

Common Good Questions
Final Exam America: Land of the free and home of the brave. That was the idea that the people had
hundreds of years ago. How they would feel now that we are a country that is enslaved to profit and
not the least bit brave when it comes to speaking truth. Mark Shield, author of the article Missing: Any
Challenge for the Common Good, brings to the attention of how todays tactic of running things has
become more than a little undermining. The presidential campaign of 2016 has been no more than a
bumbling mess for the past few months. Republican front runner and celebrity, Donald Trump, has led
his campaign with racist remarks and the promise of a wall he will not pay for, to separate borders.

Some of who have brought what success this land has, to be what it is today. Many of who would be
looking at us in disappointment. The sole purpose of a leader is to lead their people to a better future.
Looking at this year s election has given the impression that our only concern for American is
entertainment and personal profit. Shields uses the line, Our culture has devalued individual sacrifice
for the common good, in his article and it is true. The look on the American appeal for the common
good has been distorted and is now a blur that we look past. Another problem that we are facing is the
fact that we are all under the influence. All of the big voices that we are listening to are trying to
impose their opinions and outlooks into being our own. They are trying to use their opinion to quiet
ours. Politics brims with examples of one side s efforts to impose its ethical values on the other,
Another line from Shields article. Throughout America s history there have been brilliant voices,
Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and many more. Though that is entire
difference between them and the voices today. They were brilliant. That is not to say that the
candidates today are not intelligent. The difference between brilliant and intelligent is that one
outshines the other. These men were not in power for the power, they were in power for the people.

The Wife Monologue
It was a cold and windy September 17 in Denton, Maryland. The year was 1997. Kurt was working in
the field like he does everyday. His wife, Beth, could see him from the house. He could hear from a

He remembered back to when the girls were born. The doctor said Beth was pregnant with a baby boy,
and out came two special girls. These girls were not just special in the Daddy s little angels kind of
way. They were both born with superpowers. Glenda came out glowing blue. She had beautiful blue

Symbolism In Jacob Carol
Marley was dead, to begin with there s no doubt whatever about that... Old Marley was as dead as a
door nail. (Stave 1, Pg. 9) A Christmas Carol s character Jacob Marley plays an important role in the
main character, Ebenezer Scrooge s growth. In the novel, Mr. Marley, when he appears as a spirit to
inform Scrooge that the christmas spirits would be visiting him, he appears in chains along with cash
boxes, deeds, keys, padlocks, and ledgers. It is said in the book that he chose to wear the chain as well
as the other objects voluntarily. However, the reason for Marley s doing so in his afterlife was never
revealed. I believe that the symbolic meaning behind Marley s locks and chains have to do with his
wealth, him being tied to his job, and his greed during his lifetime. I feel that this symbolism also
played a large part in Scrooge s growth throughout the novel because it further drilled the idea into his
head that if he doesn t change his attitude toward life he d end up chained down just as Marley is. It
seems as if he chooses to wear the chain freely, but he is never truly free of his own sin and regret. The
chains and objects symbolize his wealth because when he was alive, Marley worked in a counting
house. In modern terms a counting house would be like a loan office, but increased interest was
charged to loan clients money. He and Scrooge seemed like similar people, and if this was the case, he
may have gained wealth in life just as Scrooge did; by working

Chronic Kidney Disease Analysis
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a leading cause of the critical mortality and morbidity, the Global
Burden of Diseases 2010 study reported that CKD contributes to approximately 740,000 deaths
annually, making it the 18th leading cause of death (Benigni et al. 2010, Lozano et al. 2012). CKD is a
progressive condition as either kidney damage or decreased kidney function over time (Figliuzzi et al.
2014). The main causes of CKD include glomerulonephritis, diabetic kidney disease, hypertensive
nephropathy, polycystic kidney disease and other factors, which gradually decrease the glomerular
filtration rate (Karczewski and Malkiewicz. 2015). The major outcomes of CKD include progression
to kidney failure, complication of decreased kidney function, and cardiovascular disease. Moreover,
patients with CKD are at high risk for progression to the end stage renal disease (ESRD) (Levey et al.
2003). The increasing number of patients with CKD, medicare spending on these patients exceeds $29

The competition of other restaurants and pubs is always evolving. Many businesses do not survive

Suppliers and regulatory changes are not as closely monitored as southern Canada as the Government

An Analysis of William Edward Burghardt Du Bois Proposed...
Abstract Education is the most important part of any individual s life. It shapes characters and builds
personalities, introvert and extrovert, pessimistic and optimistic, loving and aggressive. For a better
society an improved educational system is a must, a system based on ethics and knowledge. The paper
examines the work and educational principles of W.E.B. Dubois and then compares his proposed
system to the currently prevalent educational system. Introduction William Edward Burghardt Du Bois
is one of the greatest African Americans in history. He was born, 23rd February 1868 in
Massachusetts. Du Bois had an unusual life, in the sense that in his early years he knew nothing of the
racial discrimination prevalent in the South. He lived a life of privilege for a black in U.S. He faced
neither outright discrimination nor economic difficulties. He graduated as a Valedictorian and the only
colored student and even went on to become the first black to secure a doctorate degree in history,
from Harvard. It was during graduation that he got first taste of the racial prejudice prevalent in the
American society. He began educating himself in the history of discrimination. He took a Bachelor s
degree from Fisk University, where he came face to face with racism and frequent lynching or name
calling. He vowed to elevate the status of his race and help solve what he referred to as, the Negro
problem. At Fisk he was part of the Mozart society, editor of college newspaper and a

How Did Nixon s Use Of Logical Fallacies
Nixon used several logical fallacies in his 1952 Checkers Speech when addressing the issue of funding
and how it was received. He attempted to use distraction (Red Herring fallacy) when discussing
communism. This was an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fear of communist parties of that time
and provided distraction from the illegal funding he had received. Nixon further uses logical fallacies
in his speech, including the use of begging the question and appears in the manner of circular logic.
This is shown in statement Now, was that wrong? And let me say that it was wrong. I m saying,

Roseville Incident Summary
Earlier this week, on Memorial Day, police officers in Roseville, California arrested a gang of seven
men for allegedly touching several young girls inappropriately at a local waterpark. Curiously, though,
the various media outlets that have reported on the incident have all effectively covered up what sort
of people would target 14 year old girls in a group and then abuse them like they did by leaving out
some key information about the suspects backgrounds.
Specifically, law enforcement officials with the Roseville Police Department recently took seven men

the incident have refused to release any information about the suspects backgrounds, like whether or
not the gang of men migrated here from another country, and if so, whether or not they came here

Despite this, based on their conduct and the other information available, it s highly likely that they

seen in Europe and most of the perpetrators of the abuse are believed to be migrants.

The Principle Of Equity Within The World Of Doctrine, Not...
Equity is a source of law which is based on flexible principles to supplement the common law, and
thereby alleviating the harshness. Lord Scarman once described the principle of equity in National
Westminster Bank PLC v Morgan as a world of doctrine, not of neat and tidy rules which emphasises
its rigidity nature to provide its flexibility. As Alastair Hudson noted , many different doctrines fit
inside English equity which introduce a more systematic approach to the common law. It is important
to examine equity s historical development to recognize the root of how it was formed and used, and
how it still serves a purpose within the modern legal system.
When discussing the history of equity, it is imperative to go back to the 12th century where the King
and his courtiers would travel around the country to settle disputes and collect the citizen s taxes.
During this time, the King s Chancellor would advise the King and his Council on these matters. Due
to this, he became known as the King s conscience. Where the use of the common law to settle a
dispute proved to be unjustified, the Chancellor would provide a just remedy. In this way, the King s
common law became well founded, and the concept of equity was formed.
Common law suits were known to be inflexible, as the common law only provided one type of
remedy, damages, which was not always an adequate solution to every problem . Some litigants grew
dissatisfied with the system and petitioned to the King. However, all of

A reflection of Odysseus and Modern Day Heroes The...
Written about two thousand and seven hundred years earlier, the Odyssey is still influencing modern
storytelling today. Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca and protagonist of Homer s epic
poem the Odyssey was recognized as a great hero of his time. He was known for his defining qualities
of superior strength and athleticism, sharp intellect, sensual ness, and a thirst for glory. These
character traits are still being used to attribute modern day fictional heroes such as Neo, Captain Jack
Sparrow, James Bond, and Spiderman. Accordingly, the heroic qualities of Odysseus can be still be
seen in today s modern day fictional heroes.
Odysseus s superior strength and athleticism resembles to modern day character of Neo in The Matrix.

Both Sparrow and Odysseus use this type of sharp cunning intellect to get what they need.
Odysseus also shares his trait of sensual ness to women with the modern day hero of James Bond.
There were numerous occasions where Odysseus came across a beautiful woman and lived a luxurious
life with her before continuing his journey home. Three such examples were Calypso, Nausicaa, and
Circe. With Circe in particular, Circe turned all of Odysseus crew into swine, but he was able to resist
her powers, which caused her to fall in love with him. Odysseus then decided to spend a year of
luxury on her island as her lover. Odysseus said, We sat there feasting on unlimited meat and sweet
wine. But when the sun went down and the sacred darkness came over... but I, mounting the
surpassingly beautiful bed of Circe, clasped her by the knees and entreated her (Homer, 164).
Odysseus enjoyed his luxurious life with Circe in an exotic land, but only to a point. Eventually, he
decided to focus on the greater task at hand and return home to Ithaca. James Bond possesses this
same trait of sensual ness towards women throughout all of the bond films. In just about every film,
Bond comes across a beautiful female that he ends up spending an intimate time with before going off
to save the world. In Casino Royal, Bond enters a relationship with Solange. Solange says to Bond,

Blockbuster Out Of Business Essay
Blockbuster Out of Business In order to maintain a thriving business, the company must be able to
meet all the requirements needed in order to be successful. There are many different factors that
contribute to company s shutting down and becoming bankrupt, one of the main reasons why
companies go out of business is because either the customer service was questionable, the
establishment wasn t properly ran, and or they were taken out by other newer more competitive
counterparts. One business in particular that used to be the go to place to pick up the hottest and latest
movies was Blockbuster. Blockbuster shortly went out of business after their 29 year long reign of
being at the top. Blockbuster was one of the main chains for DVD rentals as well as video game

begin to change. First and foremost, Blockbusters predominant position as the leading DVD rental

Vengeance is mine; I will repay, states the darkly foretelling epigraph of Leo Tolstoy s famous novel
Anna Karenina. Throughout the work, the author seems torn between feminist and misogynist
sympathies, leading one to wonder if the above quote is directed at the adulterous Anna the only
character in the novel who pays for her transgressions with her life. At first, Tolstoy seems to
sympathize with Anna, contrasting her situation with that of her brother Stiva, who has also committed
adultery but received no social chastisement. But by the end of the novel it s almost as though the
author feels he has allowed Anna to get away with too much, and must teach the reader a lesson about
such behavior from a woman. Anna s last mention in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything about her was enchanting, muses Kitty, but there was something terrible and cruel in her
charm (97). Anna has not yet strayed from her marriage, but apparently the mere thought of it is
enough to transform her from loving and attentive to cruel and heartless.
Naturally, Anna and Vronsky begin to have an affair, which Alexis Karenin, Anna s husband,
discovers. Our lives are bound together not by men but by God. This bond can only be broken by a
crime, and that kind of crime brings its punishment, he warns her (173), in an allusion back to the
novel s epigraph and a foreshadowing of Anna s eventual fate. They agree to live together as though
nothing were wrong in order to keep up appearances, but after a time Anna demands divorce and
Karenin consents on the grounds that Anna give up all rights to their son Serezha. She cannot bring
herself to do this, and they live as before for a time until Anna gives birth to a daughter fathered by
Vronsky. The birth is a difficult one, and Anna is convinced she will die in labor. She does in fact live,
but the doctor tells her she will never bear more children. Seemingly, Tolstoy intends sterility to be
Anna s punishment for having flouted societal norms.
Vronsky and Anna flee to Italy in an attempt to live a more normal life. After some time there, it
becomes quite apparent that the Anna we met at the beginning of the story is not the Anna we have
now.

The Executive Of The Virgin Company
Sir Richard Branson is a global entrepreneur and also the chairman of the Virgin Company. Within a
large company such as Virgin, it is very important to work in a team, and there are a diverse range of
teams that exist within the Virgin group such as the top management team, problem solving team,
continuous improvement team, cross functional team and the work team. A top management team is
defined as the CEO, executives or general manager, vice presidents and other top department heads
whose job is to help the organisation achieve its mission and goals. (Kinicki, 404) This can be seen
from the behavior of Branson giving the employees his private number and paying close attention to
every firm as he wants to help those people and companies within the Virgin group who are
belligerent. Many of the cabin crews are hired only during the peak season and then they are
disbanded. This is an example of a problem solving team as they only meet as a temporary team.
Moreover, there are interest groups and friendship groups exist within the group. Branson actually
encourages this by giving freedom to the employees as he thinks it is important for the employees get
to know each other well on a more personal level helping to build a friendly environment within a
team making the team successful. This may be referred as the continuous improvement team. And the
other significant teams that exist within the Virgin Group are the work team and the cross functional
team as each team members

A University Of A Campus Statue Essay
Every day millions of people in the world are making an impact and difference that should be
recognized and honored. To continue, this is the reason why there are so many statues in the world,
including in art museums, in libraries, and even on the campuses of colleges, to show forth the honor
and respect people have towards them for making a difference in their lives. For instance, a campus
statue represents a symbolism to an individual who has made an impact on the grounds of a college
campus that will be remembered for a life time. In this case, Columbus State University located in
Columbus, Georgia, should have a campus statue in honor of a person who brought so much life on
the premises of this college that can impact every life that steps foot here. However, there is a
possibility of four people who can represent this statue: Callie McGinnis, Robert Arnold, Walter
Richards, and William Clifford Tucker. To begin, Callie McGinnis is currently still present on Earth
and was Columbus State University s first Dean of Librarian who moved to the city of Columbus,
Georgia from New Orleans, Louisiana to work as a reference librarian on July 1, 1974 to January 5,
2010. On the other hand, Robert Arnold was a public educator/teacher for 27 years and he eventually
moved to the city of Columbus, Georgia to teach at Clover Hill Junior High School in the year of
1911. In addition, when he passed away due to health reasons, the high school was named after him,

In perspective of what we got some answers concerning mother s tension, we can see how this

Race and Ethnicity
Ethnicity and race have been used in American society to the point where both words are
indistinguishable from each other. Race is a social construct (Throop, Lecture, 10/8/2015). Race is a
social construct because race is used to differentiate the different ethnic groups from each other. Race
should not be used to separate the different ethnic groups. In American society, it is evident that
certain ethnic groups are singled out for the problems in our society. Usually those ethnic groups are
minorities. African Americans and Latinos are usually the minorities that are singled out for the
problems or benefit of the majority. In the article, Who Dat?: Race and Its Conspicuous Consumption
in Post Katrina New Orleans, Marc Perry states how African American citizens were affected by the
devastating hurricane Katrina in 2005 and how the citizens reacted before and after hurricane Katrina
to the relocation of African Americans to other places for the restructuring of New Orleans (Perry). In
a related article titled, Putting the Ninth Ward on the map: Race, Place, and Transformation in Desire,
New Orleans, Rachel Breunlin and Helen Regis state how African Americans living in New Orleans
before and after hurricane Katrina were being dislocated for the benefit of whites for the restructuring
of Post Katrina in Desire,New Orleans and caused the culture of New

  • 2. Nursing Reflection on Pressure Sores Essay Critical incident The aim of this reflection is to describe my personal experience in wound care and its management. Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle has been adapted in order to provide structure to the reflection process. Description At the care home I had to nurse many client s who had developed pressure sores. One particular wound stands out from the rest, it belonged to a lady in her late 70 s who was immobile and suffers from incontinence and slight dementia. Her wound was extremely large on her sacrum, black and very hard. At this point was extremely discoloured (black) but the skin was intact and only had a light exudate. However there was evidence of full thickness skin loss which was masked by the necrotic tissue, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have learnt the importance of good communication and how it is essential for building trust. (Spouse et al 2008). I did feel a little vulnerable however but experience gave me the confidence to give the correct level of information. I have learnt that I need to show sensitivity and give the correct amount of information that was required to facilitate their reassurance. Evaluation Although the situation was quite challenging, it provided me with some useful experiences for the future practice. I understand that all institutions should have a policy for documenting the assessment of patients, including pressure ulcers (Morison 2001). I have come to be familiar with the homes assessment policy using the Sterling Pressure Sore Severity Scale and most importantly I have learned that by using a universal assessment tool it supports a systemic and consistent approach to pressure ulcer evaluation. This therefore supporting continuity of care. I have significantly developed my skill in wound care assessment and dressing, in developing this skill I now recognize the importance of documenting each dressing. Morison (2001) supports this in saying that by detailing pressure ulcer assessment it provides a basis for deciding the effectiveness of the current treatment. International Journal of Organizational Analysis, 9 (3): 225 256. Duane Windsor, via the aforementioned article regarding the future of social responsibility, purports there are three emerging alternatives or competitors to responsibility: (1) an economic conception of responsibility; (2) global corporate citizenship; and (3) stakeholder management practices (pg. 225). Windsor first provides a historical reflection of social responsibility beginning in the Progressive Era through the twentieth century and concludes with predictions for the future of corporate social responsibility. Carroll s pyramid model inspired debate between how people ought to behave and how people are likely to behave and that behavior may come to dominate theory by appeal to the desirability of material outcomes (pg. 235). The historical reflection Windsor provided led him to his thesis of the three emerging alternative or competitors to responsibility. Economic conception of responsibility, emerging alternative #1, links wealth and social welfare. By definition, organizations that do not focus on financial profits are labeled not for profit organizations. Windsor s second cited emerging alternatives to responsibility focuses on recent movement involving global corporate citizenship. He explains this alternative as a marriage of societal expectations of corporations to their community and management obligations to their firm. The more powerful and wealth the firm, the greater that firm s responsibilities to neighbors and the community must be (pg. 242). Windsor s third emerging alternative is regarding stakeholder management practices. Management psychologies vary widely amongst theorists yet revolve around prioritization of profits. Corporate social responsibility seems to be a topic needing additional research and discussion. As a former law enforcement office, laws and regulation make sense to me. As long as you owned the farmland, you don t even have to be growing anything and you would continue to receive a subsidy check (para. 3). Edwards actually calls for the repeal of farmer subsidies and claims agriculture would thrive without subsidies (para 40). He further claims that: It is normal for people to fear economic change, but many industries have been radically reformed in recent decades with positive results, including the airline, trucking, telecommunications and energy industries. If farm subsidies were ended, and agriculture markets deregulated and open to entrepreneurs, farming would change different crops would be planted, land usage would change.... But a stronger and more innovative industry would likely emerge having greater resilience to shocks and downturns (para. 40). I agree with Edwards as he makes a good argument that if other companies can survive economic change without a bailout, why can t the farm industry do the same? He also states the whole system is practically corrupt because of political involvement in the process as the many legislators have an interest in increasing the USDA s budget (para. 6). The whole system needs reform and subsidies need to be reduced or repealed. There were three tasks, one assigned to each member of the group. There was a task assigned to each group member: Circuit builder, measurer, and the data collector/calculator. Because of this group collaboration, we were able to work quickly and efficiently to get the project done on time. This project was definitely a learning experience for all of us because this was the first time we had been expected to build a circuit. We worked together and followed the instructions step by step. At first, I did not know what the measurements meant, but after my teammates helped me understand how the measurements are correlated to the theoretical calculations and the circuit as a whole, I better understood how the circuit worked as well as what the measurements signified. After the 9/11 attack, President George W. Bush puts together a plan to attack Afghanistan. America sends over a warning, to either turn over Osama bin Laden, the man in charge of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, or we ll bomb you. After Afghanistan refused to turn him over, due to lack of evidence that he was in charge of the 9/11 attacks, America, with the help of it s allies, countries like the United Kingdom and the Northern Alliance, bombed Afghanistan. Through all of this madness, Osama bin Laden escaped. After all the stuff that just happened in Afghanistan, President George W. Bush called for America to reconstruct Afghanistan . This would include going over there, building a new government, and helping the people of Afghanistan to live a nonviolent life. After a decade of America being in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden being killed, and two new presidents in Afghanistan, we are left with a big problem, American soldiers are still in Afghanistan, and we have no idea when they will be able to come back. This means the theory is not overly broad or narrow. The theory was developed from studying men with prostate cancer who were watchfully waiting for the advancing signs of their disease (Black, 2014). The theory has three main components, which incorporate: the antecedents of uncertainty, impaired cognitive appraisal, and coping with uncertainty in illness (Neville, 2003). The antecedents of Mishel s theory are the stimulus frame, cognitive capacities and event congruence (Neville, 2003). The stimulus frame concerns three parts including: symptom pattern, event familiarity and event congruency (Neville, 2003). Symptom pattern may be when symptoms of ... • 11. World Economics and History Journal Question 1 Building on the Okun s law, which basically describes a vibrant relationship that exist between national output and unemployment within which a fall unemployment results into higher national output, A. W. Phillips extended to discover the relationship between inflation and unemployment. The string of the basic ideas which revolve around this belief follows that as more individuals work then the national output rises, causing an increase in the wages, a situation that makes the consumers to have supplementary money and willing to spend more, this ultimately results in the consumers demanding more services and goods triggering the prices of services and goods to increase. Ideally, the Phillips curve shows that inflation and unemployment shares an inverse relationship where as inflation raises then the unemployment falls. In other words, if the economy tends to experience an increase in the aggregate demand it will automatically cause an increase in the output; just as the economy approaches full employment, further experiencing a rise within its inflation. On the other hand, with the rise in real gross domestic product, firms workers resulting to a decline within the unemployment. In the short run, it will be noted that the Phillips curve tends to have a downward slope, signifying a potential tradeoff between unemployment and inflation. Video Games Help Children With Special Educational Needs This paper explains how video games help children with special educational needs, should children have certain technologies (I.e. phones, tablets, etc.) readily available, and what children enjoy about playing video games. [METHODS?] The findings from this research are that children s fascination in video games, whether with typical development or not, mainly involves the thrill of challenges and the feeling of achievement when winning. When playing video games, children do learn alternate ways to solve problems. Children who play video games may think and learn differently than those who do not play. Those who tend to cheat in a video games may also do the same when academics are involved. A child s academic ethics and effort seems to reflect when playing video games. In other words, children who play a video game with minimal effort seem to give the same amount of effort when academics are concerned. My conclusions include that technology is good for children with special educational needs, it is helpful for young children in that it gives them the tools that they need for success (being bilingual in the technological language), and that it helps children cognitively by finding new ways to solve problems. The elderly relatives promised them that they would give the young couple a share in their house in return. However, their relationship fell out, and the elderly couple dismissed the young couple. Similarly, in the case of (Merritt v Merritt, 1970) the court rebutted the presumption both the husband and wife in had no intention to form a legal relationship in their agreement. So like this case, Brett should not assume that the court will be blinded by the fact that he was contracting with his uncle. The court will look at the subject matter of the agreement which is the sale of a car. Question (b): Acceptance by Conduct The law of contract dismisses any thought that the acceptance can occur by the silence from the offeree. On the other side, it also explains to what extent a silence can indicate a sign of acceptance. However, it s not a silence as such. It s a situation where the offeree s conduct demonstrates an acceptance of an offer. For instance, in (Brogden v. Beethoven was also known for creating the bridge between the classical and romantic era of music. He is known for doing this because he took key aspects of the classical era and merged them with key aspects of the romantic era. The classical era of music dates from 1775 1825. The classical music era had a lighter and more clear texture (Kamien 161). The music from this era was mainly homophonic meaning that the music had one part or melody that dominated all other parts or melodies (Kamien 160). At the start of his musical career, Beethoven was considered an exceptional pianist, not a great composer. In 1798 Beethoven noticed that he had started to become deaf. He would spend the following thirty years writing and composing music with major hearing loss. From his mid twenties to about three months before his death, Beethoven did not stop composing and writing music. Beethoven drew his musical inspiration from many sources. This is because the October Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent Assembly from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917) occurred and the results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the assembly, they were outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had the majority with 52%. Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of an assembly because to hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to compromise with the malignant bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a long day of negotiations and disagreements between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am. When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened session, they found that the Tauride Palace was locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who presented them with a decree declaring that the Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for them the principle instrument of political persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives behind dissolving the assembly. This contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic (RSFSR), who formally came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to remain firmly in power. (Stave 1, Pg. 9) A Christmas Carol s character Jacob Marley plays an important role in the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge s growth. In the novel, Mr. Marley, when he appears as a spirit to inform Scrooge that the christmas spirits would be visiting him, he appears in chains along with cash boxes, deeds, keys, padlocks, and ledgers. It is said in the book that he chose to wear the chain as well as the other objects voluntarily. However, the reason for Marley s doing so in his afterlife was never revealed. I believe that the symbolic meaning behind Marley s locks and chains have to do with his wealth, him being tied to his job, and his greed during his lifetime. I feel that this symbolism also played a large part in Scrooge s growth throughout the novel because it further drilled the idea into his head that if he doesn t change his attitude toward life he d end up chained down just as Marley is. It seems as if he chooses to wear the chain freely, but he is never truly free of his own sin and regret. The chains and objects symbolize his wealth because when he was alive, Marley worked in a counting house. • 27. Signs Of Edmund Evil There are many important signs which must be read carefully. Many pertain to what is good and what is evil. Many of the signs seem easy to read, but Edmund does not seem to be able to read them correctly. In this essay, I will discuss some of the more conventional signs and determine why Edmund has such difficulty. Almost all of the signs having to do with the witch seem to be ignored by Edmund. Her deathly pale skin and blood red lips are both signs that she is evil. The uncomfortable feeling that Edmund felt around the witch is a sign from inside of him that is ignored. The animals that were turned to stone are a sign of her evil misuse of power. Edmund does not read these signs correctly. Instead he justifies them to himself: All these ... • 29. An Analysis of William Edward Burghardt Du Bois Proposed... Abstract Education is the most important part of any individual s life. It shapes characters and builds personalities, introvert and extrovert, pessimistic and optimistic, loving and aggressive. For a better society an improved educational system is a must, a system based on ethics and knowledge. The paper examines the work and educational principles of W.E.B. Dubois and then compares his proposed system to the currently prevalent educational system. Introduction William Edward Burghardt Du Bois is one of the greatest African Americans in history. He was born, 23rd February 1868 in Massachusetts. Du Bois had an unusual life, in the sense that in his early years he knew nothing of the racial discrimination prevalent in the South. He lived a life of privilege for a black in U.S. He faced neither outright discrimination nor economic difficulties. He graduated as a Valedictorian and the only colored student and even went on to become the first black to secure a doctorate degree in history, from Harvard. It was during graduation that he got first taste of the racial prejudice prevalent in the American society. He began educating himself in the history of discrimination. He took a Bachelor s degree from Fisk University, where he came face to face with racism and frequent lynching or name calling. He vowed to elevate the status of his race and help solve what he referred to as, the Negro problem. At Fisk he was part of the Mozart society, editor of college newspaper and a ... He attempted to use distraction (Red Herring fallacy) when discussing communism. Nixon further uses logical fallacies in his speech, including the use of begging the question and appears in the manner of circular logic. This is shown in statement Now, was that wrong? • 32. The Principle Of Equity Within The World Of Doctrine, Not... Equity is a source of law which is based on flexible principles to supplement the common law, and thereby alleviating the harshness. Lord Scarman once described the principle of equity in National Westminster Bank PLC v Morgan as a world of doctrine, not of neat and tidy rules which emphasises its rigidity nature to provide its flexibility. As Alastair Hudson noted , many different doctrines fit inside English equity which introduce a more systematic approach to the common law. It is important to examine equity s historical development to recognize the root of how it was formed and used, and how it still serves a purpose within the modern legal system. When discussing the history of equity, it is imperative to go back to the 12th century where the King and his courtiers would travel around the country to settle disputes and collect the citizen s taxes. During this time, the King s Chancellor would advise the King and his Council on these matters. Due to this, he became known as the King s conscience. Where the use of the common law to settle a dispute proved to be unjustified, the Chancellor would provide a just remedy. In this way, the King s common law became well founded, and the concept of equity was formed. Common law suits were known to be inflexible, as the common law only provided one type of remedy, damages, which was not always an adequate solution to every problem . Some litigants grew dissatisfied with the system and petitioned to the King. However, all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three such examples were Calypso, Nausicaa, and Circe. With Circe in particular, Circe turned all of Odysseus crew into swine, but he was able to resist her powers, which caused her to fall in love with him. Odysseus then decided to spend a year of luxury on her island as her lover. Odysseus said, We sat there feasting on unlimited meat and sweet wine. At first, Tolstoy seems to sympathize with Anna, contrasting her situation with that of her brother Stiva, who has also committed adultery but received no social chastisement. This bond can only be broken by a crime, and that kind of crime brings its punishment, he warns her (173), in an allusion back to the novel s epigraph and a foreshadowing of Anna s eventual fate. They agree to live together as though nothing were wrong in order to keep up appearances, but after a time Anna demands divorce and Karenin consents on the grounds that Anna give up all rights to their son Serezha.
