TASK 7 -
DEVELOPMENT
Preliminary Task Front Cover Final Task Front Cover
FRONT COVER
I have learnt from producing both my preliminary and my final product
that the use of picture is very important, my final product though it
does not have a lot of photo manipulation it has direct address which
attracts the reader much more than just a picture of objects. I have
learnt that the personal approach creates a more professional looking
magazine. I feel the masthead of the two are very similar as I think that
the white on colour stands out significantly more than just writing on
the background. I have also learnt from my production of the two that
empty space doesn’t look professional on a magazine; so instead of
leaving empty space I have filled the gaps with either cover lines or a
puff. Also I have realised that barcodes are not crucial so have
decreased the size between the two to make it only there for necessity.
The use of pugs in the ear of the magazine I believe to be important
however I think that it shouldn’t take much away from the main image
therefore I made the pug less dominant on the page which made the
main image a larger focus. The use of sans-serif font on my final
product differs from the preliminary task , I have learnt that san-serif
makes the front cover seem more informal which is attractive to my
audience. As both magazines have the same target audience I think
that many elements will remain the same such as a bold main cover line
which is dominant on the page.

CONTENTS PAGE
Most of all in the production of my two magazines I have learnt that
cohesion is most important factor of the final product of the magazine.
By having a matching colour scheme and font types it gives the whole
magazine a more professional approach. The layout of the two contents
pages are very similar as they both have a bold title with images on the
right and more text on the left. In making the final product I learnt how
to manipulate mages for example the black and white one and the one
with the boy standing on the chair as the background has been
removed. I have also learnt how to utilise space on the page and that
this is an important factor for making the magazine look good; as white
space is unattractive and looks very unprofessional. I have also learnt
that the masthead should be on each page however on the contents
page and double page spread isn’t the most important factor therefore I
have put it in the bottom corner instead of as a header like my
preliminary magazine. The use of the big title allows the reader to
identify what page they are on, I learnt from making my contents page
that the WOC (white on colour) effect stands out as the white stands out
the most.
Final Task Double Page Spread
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
As I did not make a preliminary double page spread I have nothing to
compare it to however I can still identify how I have progressed while
making it. In making my double page spread I fully learnt how to use
the new software to me Adobe InDesign. I learnt majorly how to make a
piece of text into columns; this is important when it comes to making a
magazine double page spread as it creates the conventional looking
article making it seem much more professional and neater. Another
convention of a magazine is to have a drop cap which I learnt to do on
InDesign. The use of the drop cap once again makes the magazine
seem conventional and easy to relate to for the reader. The main image
is used as well to create cohesion with the other pictures in the
magazine. This allows readers to identify that this is the main article as
all the pictures link together well. I also learnt that the balance between
image and text is very important therefore I made half of the page an
image and half text; this makes it aesthetically pleasing as well as
having content.
