TASK 5 CONTINUED…
W H Y H AV E I C H O S E N T H E S E M A S T H E A D S ?
 The first name that I thought of was; Tophits! This makes the magazine seem more trendy and so will make the target
audience want to buy this magazine. It also matches my genre of Pop because pop is in the charts and the this masthead tells
the target audience that this will be included within the magazine.
 The second name that I thought of was; Popstar. This would intrigue the target audience as it would make the audience
want to idolise the celebrities within the magazine. This matches my genre as it includes the word ‘Pop’ and so the target
audience will be clear of the genre. This creates a good representation of the magazine as the magazine will include music
artists.
 I also thought of the name Pop to the top; this has the use of rhyming words which the target audience will find catchy
and so will most likely remember it. This masthead creates a meaning as it will make the audience want to keep up with the
latest charts and so therefore, they will buy it. It finally matches my genre as it includes the word Pop.
 I also came up with the name Top Pops. This uses colloquial language which will make the target audience feel as if they
can relate to the magazine. It matches my genre as it includes the word pop and creates meaning as it represents that it will
include the latest artists within the magazine.
 The final name that I came up with was ‘#1 Hits’, This will make the target audience think that the magazine is trendy
and will therefore want to buy the magazine to keep up with the latest music. It also matches my genre because Pop is in the
charts so this masthead uses representation to address the target audience.
W H A T A R E T H E C O D E S A N D C O N V E N T I O N S U S E D
F O R M A S T H E A D S ?
 The masthead must link to the chosen genre
 It must be catchy and intruding
 It must set the colour scheme for the rest of the magazine
 It should be bold
 It should also be the biggest writing on the page
 The masthead should always be positioned at the top of the page, clearly visible
 If it is an unknown magazine, then nothing should be covering the masthead, otherwise it will be branded
W H A T A R E T H E C O D E S A N D C O N V E N T I O N S T H A T
E X I S T W H E N U S I N G C O L O U R S C H E M E S ?
 The colours should be supplementary; using the colour wheel, the magazine should
include a bright colour contrasted with a darker colour
 The colour scheme should be consistent throughout all of the pages within the
magazine
 The colours should match the chosen genre. For example, Pop; should be mainly
bright colours such as Pink, Purple, Blure
W H Y H AV E Y O U C H O S E N T H I S F O N T ?
 I chose to use a sans serif font because it is clearly visible as it is tall and quite thin,
this will be easy for the target audience to read and understand. The font may change
when the magazine goes on as it may become boring and so the target audience may be
less intrigued. So, with some text I may choose to use fonts such as, ‘Arial’ and ‘Franklin’.
To make these fonts stand out, I may choose to do them in bold or italic.
W H A T M E A N I N G A R E Y O U T R Y I N G T O C R E A T E F O R
Y O U R T A R G E T A U D I E N C E B Y U S I N G T H E S E C O L O U R S ?
 I chose to go along the colour scheme using pinks, purples and blues. These colours
will match the genre of Pop as they are bright and will make the magazine seem more
visually appealing. This will make the target audience have a happy, upbeat mood and they
will clearly understand that the genre that I am trying to represent is Pop and therefore
they will buy the magazine.
W H A T R E P R E S E N T A T I O N A L I S S U E S C A N Y O U
D I S C U S S ?
 As I am targeting my magazine at Females, this will be easy to represent. However, as
I have chosen to do pink, purple and blue, the blue parts of the magazine may become
confusing as it may seem like that I am trying to aim at my magazine at both genders. So,
to avoid this, I will use very light baby blue colour that will still be bright and won’t
symbolise a male audience as they would prefer to see a more darker blue colour.

It also matches my genre of Pop because pop is in the charts and the this masthead tells the target audience that this will be included within the magazine.  The second name that I thought of was; Popstar. This would intrigue the target audience as it would make the audience want to idolise the celebrities within the magazine. This matches my genre as it includes the word ‘Pop’ and so the target audience will be clear of the genre. This creates a good representation of the magazine as the magazine will include music artists.  I also thought of the name Pop to the top; this has the use of rhyming words which the target audience will find catchy and so will most likely remember it. This masthead creates a meaning as it will make the audience want to keep up with the latest charts and so therefore, they will buy it. It finally matches my genre as it includes the word Pop.  I also came up with the name Top Pops. This uses colloquial language which will make the target audience feel as if they can relate to the magazine. It matches my genre as it includes the word pop and creates meaning as it represents that it will include the latest artists within the magazine.  The final name that I came up with was ‘#1 Hits’, This will make the target audience think that the magazine is trendy and will therefore want to buy the magazine to keep up with the latest music. It also matches my genre because Pop is in the charts so this masthead uses representation to address the target audience.

The font may change when the magazine goes on as it may become boring and so the target audience may be less intrigued. So, with some text I may choose to use fonts such as, ‘Arial’ and ‘Franklin’. To make these fonts stand out, I may choose to do them in bold or italic.

These colours will match the genre of Pop as they are bright and will make the magazine seem more visually appealing. This will make the target audience have a happy, upbeat mood and they will clearly understand that the genre that I am trying to represent is Pop and therefore they will buy the magazine.

However, as I have chosen to do pink, purple and blue, the blue parts of the magazine may become confusing as it may seem like that I am trying to aim at my magazine at both genders. So, to avoid this, I will use very light baby blue colour that will still be bright and won’t symbolise a male audience as they would prefer to see a more darker blue colour.
