Ed Sheeran’s target audience ranges from young teenagers to adults. The ages
are roughly between 13 – 27 years old. As he is 23 himself, it allows him to
connect with his audience on a more personal level.
Ed is heavily influenced by rap and grime artists such as Eminem. This is
because he is intrigued and inspired by the way the lyrics flow together and
how emotive it can be. This influence attracts the younger years and is a
reason for his target audience.
3. GENDER OF AUDIENCE
Ed Sheeran’s self written songs are all about love, life and loss, delivered in
catchy rhythms and melodies which attract many girls to listen to his music.
The majority of his fans are female, especially teenage girls.
Although females are mainly attracted to his music, so are males. A lot of
males find his narrative relatable to their personal experiences. This is
important for Ed as he enjoys the close engagement with his fans and this, in
turn, can make him become more successful.
4. HOW HE GOT HIS AUDIENCE
Ed went to Los Angeles, unsigned, and played as many open mic nights as he could.
Many of the people in his target audience would have gone to these open mic night,
this is how he began to get a bigger fan-base.
After this, his fan-base grew online; he posted videos of himself playing online which
gave him a lot more publicity. Social networking sites like Facebook also helped him
to gain a bigger fan-base.
He is was mainly self promoted and grew his own fan base by doing as many gigs as
possible and by uploading videos of himself onto YouTube for people to view he also
flew to Los Angles unsigned and after doing a few gigs was spotted by Jamie Foxx
who invited him to stay at his house.
