EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION It is caused by any number of outside factor: • need to pass an exam • the hope of financial reward • possibility or future travel INTRINSIC MOTIVATION By contrast, comes from within the individual • the enjoyment of the learning process itself • a desire to make themselves feel better. 6 Motivation can be affected and influenced by ATTITUDE of people. The society we live in: • Is the language learning part of the curriculum of high or low status? • Are the cultural images associated with English positive or negative? Significant others: • the influence of people who are close to them. • the attitude of parents and older sibblings will be crucial. How to motivate students

CREATE A SAFE CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE
10  The average S has an attention span of 20-30 minutes. Therefore, vary the lesson with different techniques and strategies: pair/group work, time-limited tasks, etc. How to motivate students Do not overload Ss. Give them time to prepare, think and consolidate knowledge.

Encourage Ss by making them aware of their strengths and progress. Give the praise when it is due. 4. Ss fear making mistakes. Let them go on. This will give them a sense of confidence. 5.
