This document discusses Sumpner's test, which is used to determine the regulation and efficiency of large power transformers. Sumpner's test involves connecting two identical transformers back-to-back, with their primaries in parallel and secondaries in series opposition. This allows them to be tested at full load conditions without actual loading. The test provides accurate measurements of total losses, including both iron and copper losses occurring simultaneously as in actual use. Its advantages are that it requires little power and tests transformers under full load conditions. The limitation is that it requires two identical transformers.

A synchronous motor is electrically identical with an alternator or AC generator.
A given alternator ( or synchronous machine) can be used as a motor, when driven electrically.
Some characteristic features of a synchronous motor are as follows:
1. It runs either at synchronous speed or not at all i.e. while running it maintains a constant speed. The only way to change its speed is to vary the supply frequency (because NS=120f/P).
2. It is not inherently self-starting. It has to be run up to synchronous (or near synchronous) speed by some means, before it can be synchronized to the supply.
3. It is capable of being operated under a wide range of power factors, both lagging and leading. Hence, it can be used for power correction purposes, in addition to supplying torque to drive loads.

The project focuses on the harmonic analysis of transformer during the switching transient period. Measuring fundamental and second harmonics of differential current, an algorithm based on the Discrete Fourier Transform and an amplitude estimator are used to simulate and list various harmonic components of current and flux. Generalized functions for describing the relationships between resultant flux and harmonic components are derived. This is important to find these relations for further use in detecting non-linearity and elimination of harmonic components.

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.

Automobile Management System Project Report.pdfKamal Acharya
The proposed project is developed to manage the automobile in the automobile dealer company. The main module in this project is login, automobile management, customer management, sales, complaints and reports. The first module is the login. The automobile showroom owner should login to the project for usage. The username and password are verified and if it is correct, next form opens. If the username and password are not correct, it shows the error message.
When a customer search for a automobile, if the automobile is available, they will be taken to a page that shows the details of the automobile including automobile name, automobile ID, quantity, price etc. “Automobile Management System” is useful for maintaining automobiles, customers effectively and hence helps for establishing good relation between customer and automobile organization. It contains various customized modules for effectively maintaining automobiles and stock information accurately and safely.
When the automobile is sold to the customer, stock will be reduced automatically. When a new purchase is made, stock will be increased automatically. While selecting automobiles for sale, the proposed software will automatically check for total number of available stock of that particular item, if the total stock of that particular item is less than 5, software will notify the user to purchase the particular item.
Also when the user tries to sale items which are not in stock, the system will prompt the user that the stock is not enough. Customers of this system can search for a automobile; can purchase a automobile easily by selecting fast. On the other hand the stock of automobiles can be maintained perfectly by the automobile shop manager overcoming the drawbacks of existing system.

2. Introduction -
• The Sumpner's test (back to back test) is the very practical,
convenient, efficient and minimum power consumption test
which is done without actual loading to find regulation and
efficiency of large power transformer.
5. • In O.C. test, there is no load on the transformer while in S.C. circuit
test only fractional load gets applied. In all O.C. and S.C. tests, the
loading conditions are absent. Hence the results are inaccurate.
• In open and short circuit test iron losses and copper losses are
determined separately but in actual use both losses occurs
simultaneously.
• The temperature rise in the transformer is due to total loss that
occurs simultaneously during actual use, it cant be determined by
O.C and S.C tests.
6. SUMPNER’S TEST
Its a improved method of testing transformer efficiency & other parameters.
This test gives the value of total loss accurately as it occurs when it is in actual
use. Sumpner's test or back to back test requires two transformers. Both
transformers are connected to supply in such a way that one transformer is
loaded on another.
8. Operations of Sumpner’sTest :
• 1st the primaries of the two identical
transformers are connected in parallel
across the supply V1 and secondary's are
connected in series opposition.
• The switch S2 is opened and switch S1 is
closed. Now the no load current I0 flows
in primaries and I2 is zero.
• Then switch S2 also closed and the
voltage at the output of the regulating
transformer is varied until the full load
current I2 flows in the secondary circuit
loop.
• W1 = Core losses of both the
transformers, W2= Copper losses of both
transformers.
9. Advantages of the test:
• The power required to carry out the test is small.
• The transformers are tested at full-load conditions.
• As the test results gives the value of core and copper losses
occurring simultaneously so heat run test can be conducted on two
transformers.
• The secondary current(i.e I2) can be varied to any value using
regulating transformer. Hence we can determine the copper losses
at full load condition or at any load.
Drawbacks of the test:
Only limitation is that two identical transformers are required. In
practice exact identical transformers cannot be obtained and as two
transformers are required, the test is not economical.
10. CONCLUSION:
In many electrical machines its seen that sumpner's test or back to back test is
done in one or other way. As it is important to test every electrical machines at
its rated capacity and its inconvenient for machines of large rating to actually
fully load the equipment's and test. So for all electrical machines some form of
back to back test becomes important.
