Evidence Based Decision Making ( Ebdm )
Evidence based decision making (EBDM) is defined as, a formalized approach to clinical care in
which the clinician, in consultation with the patient, uses the best scientific evidence available to make
decisions about clinical interventions needed to optimize personal oral health (Wilkins, Wyche, Boyd,
pp. 25, 2017). The PICO model of EBDM, will be used to determine the best treatment options given
the following clinical situation: For a 25 year old male, with a Class I on caries on #14, Class III caries
on #6, who consumes several sports drinks a day, and has 1 pre existing amalgam filling on #2 (P),
which restorative material has a higher success rate, amalgam (I), or resin composite (C), to restore his
teeth (O)? Restorative is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An alternative material to amalgam is resin composite. Resin composite materials are, complex blends
of polymerizable resins mixed with glass powder fillers (Direct and indirect restorative materials,
2003). Originally, this material was designed and intended for anterior restorations only. Today, resin
composite continues to be a preferred material of choice by dentists and patients, primarily because of
the esthetic appearance and improved strength of the material (Hatrick et al., 2010). Today, the dental
materials industry continues to evolve and has made tremendous gains on improving the mechanical
properties of resin composite. Due to quality improvement of the material, Class I and Class II
restorations are done using this material. (Alcaraz et al., 2014).
In a 2013, article published in the Journal of The American Dental Association (JADA), authors
discusses factors influencing the longevity of amalgam and resin composite restorations, over a 24
month period. The study was conducted by the National Dental Practice Based Research Network.
The data analyzed in this study included patient factors, practice factors, and dentist factors. Data
collection was done at the time the restoration was placed and annually thereafter (Mccracken et al.,
2013). The results of the cohort study determined the following factors

Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay
Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established
to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits
eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period.
(Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and
enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim
FMLA. They are 1) for the birth and care for a newborn child; 2) for placement with the employee of
a son or daughter for adoption or foster care; 3) to care for an immediate family ... Show more content

In reality, the impact of FMLA abuse extends well beyond the workplace because FMLA costs are
passed on to consumers. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off
is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who
need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees
abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer
that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the
other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons
employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact
they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though
the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more
harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of
the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are
ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact
on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). Changes in FMLA are
needed. Michigan Banker, 15(8),

Yfz 450 Narrative
YFZ 450 One time in my life that I will never forget is when I got my first, and definitely not last,
YFZ 450. A YFZ 450 is an atv that is ready to race right out of the factory. It also is the top qualifying
race atv on the market. My dad and I both hop in the truck, my dad sort of reluctantly, but on the other
hand, I got in filled head to toe with excitement. He turns the truck on, and we begin our evening trek.
Our first stop that night was a mere 45 minute drive. We pull up and see a beautiful 450 sitting in his
driveway. We hop out and start admiring it in awe. We then hear his friends pull up in a nice little
tuner car.
After about 30 minutes, my dad hops on and takes off for a test run. He comes back with a wide, yet
terrified grin on his face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then walks up to me holding a pair of motocross pants and a jersey and just gives them to me. My
dad and I are both shocked. We then just start saying thank you over and over.
We all just walk down to the garage then, and take a look at the corvette of boats. He explains how it
runs on a crazy v8 and can jump close to 6 8 feet out of the water with the fins up. He then shows us
two crazy snowmobiles. What made them even cooler is that the had the powder tracks on them, and
were almost brand new.
We then walk up to the atv and offer him $2000. He then debates the number and says sure, why not.
We pull the rails from the truck and secure them on the tailgate. My dad starts it up and pulls it onto
the truck bed. It almost didn t fit into the bed! We close up the tailgate and drive off. On the way home
we kept our eyes peeled for a dairy queen to pick up only the best invention ever. The DILLY BAR!!!!
We get home and it is close to 11:00. We try to slowly creep upstairs, but we were caught by my mom.
We explained the whole thing to her. After that, we go straight to bed. That is the story of the time I

Meroitic Influence On Kush Culture
As a result of Kush being south of Egypt, the Kush culture was influenced through war and trade.
Through trades and wars with the Egyptians, the Kush culture s language, religion and architecture
was influenced by Egyptian culture.
The Kush language of Meroitic was influenced by the Egyptian hieroglyphics through trading along
the Nile. This influence was caused by trade because when the Egyptians and Kush traded, they had to
understand each other. Evidence of Kush language being influenced by hieroglyphics can be found in
the article, Kush in Ancient Nubia and Egypt , on paragraph four it says Though they adopted the
hieroglyphics of Egypt, they also began to develop their own writing, known as Meroitic. The religion

Romeo And Juliet Figurative Language
William Shakespeare was a 16th century playwright that wrote many famous plays. One of his most
famous plays is called Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is about star crossed lovers from rival
families. Shakespeare uses figurative language to highlight main themes such as love, death, and
foolhardiness. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare highlights love through the use of
hyperbole, imagery, similes and metaphors. Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star crossed lovers
from rival families that die trying to be together. In a story, a theme is an idea that is constantly
referenced throughout that story. The theme of love is shown multiple times in Romeo and Juliet

most beautiful person in the room and conveys that through a simile. During the balcony scene, Juliet
says My bounty is as boundless as the sea/ My love as deep (Act 2, Scene 2, Lines 140 141). Juliet
compares her love for Romeo to the depth of a sea through a simile. These quotes show that the love
between Romeo and Juliet is extremely deep. They also show how easy it is to express emotion

Cult Of True Womanhood Summary
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but since technological and medical advancements in the area
of hormones and brain functions it was just called shell shock syndrome. The treatment plan was
known for two portions seriously: the rest and the seclusion. Those who were prescribed the rest cure
were confined to bed for weeks to months at a time and completely cut off from family members and
friends. However, this treatment of confining patients to their beds and cutting them off from family
members was mainly used for women. On the other hand, men who were prescribed the rest cure were
given two options: to rest or to travel to remote areas and undertake rugged, outdoors life . Dr.
Mitchell was influenced by the ideas of the 19th Century also known as The Cult of True Womanhood

Mitchell was predisposed to think that women did not need to leave there bed or even their homes
when they were ill. The rest cure also exacerbated normal gender roles of that era. Men were the ones
who belonged in the outside world; they were the bread winners. Men needed to be outside of the
home and to take care of the needs of everyone in it. In contrast, women were supposed to inside the
home of take care of the home. Dr. Mitchell ensures men were not feeling emasculated by being
subject to the same treatment as women and be subject to their homes where they felt only women
were supposed to be. The story The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, highlight the mental distress that the
rest cure tolls on your mental state. Gilman wrote The Yellow Wallpaper because of her experience on
the rest cure and she wanted to save people from being driven crazy . Another reason that Gilman
could have written the short story is to show that women need intellectual stimulation as much as men
and that living domestically and not doing things that express a person s creative side could drive them
insane.

Thesis Statement On Gun Control
Over the course of the fall semester, I intend to develop a strong, yet demanding, argument that
supports my ideas and efforts to make a long lasting affect on the residents living in Saint Louis. My
advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues pertaining to
gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into designing more
efficient background checking systems for individuals wanting to bear arms.
I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the consequences
caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many guns, including military grade weapons, have been
circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this, the crime rate in the
Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am often informed of the harsh
results related to gun violence; News stations throughout the region report the jarring records of deaths
and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I started to realize that my city was making
a turn for the worst. Gun control, being a relevant social issue in St.Louis, was affecting not just the
victims, but the families, friends, and the overall communities. I started to ponder why my hometown
was having such a massive issue over guns. Although I have not been personally affected by gun
violence, I do not want to become a bystander to these casualties.Rather, I desire to improve this issue

The Best Exposure Of Rocks
The best exposure to of rocks can be seen in road cuts, because they the great variety in the rock types
and formations within the area. Stray fragments of rocks can be found in mass quantity alongside the
river, held back from the road by barriers, or as a cut face that is parallel to the road. You can clearly
see the different intrusions along the roadside, dikes running along crevices, and many instances of
solid rock blasted in order to clear a way for the road. These mass capacities of the same rock are
plutons that have been uplifted over geologic time1. Tonalitic plutons consisting of primarily
granodiorite and quartz are all over the Cascade Range, forming the Grotto/Index (~25m.y.) and
Snoqualmie (~18m.y.) Batholiths of common rock types. More recent Swauk sedimentary structures
are seen as overlap from the nearby Blewitt (formerly Swauk) Pass region, likely formed as result of
the last ice age1,2,5. These sedimentary layers fade out deeper into the mountains, as the igneous
intrusions become more predominant within the range. White and black grained diorite is common
and clearly identifiable as well as amphibolite if looking around the Wenatchee or Skykomish River
where it has been broken, carried, and eroded to land on its banks (figure 5). Biotite schist,
hornblende, and quartz intrusions are not uncommon, seeing a new kind of whether solid or with
distinct dike intrusions at each roadcut.5 Location specific granites have been mined as well as gold

Essay on The Black Death
The Black Death was an extensive epidemic that spread across Europe from 1346 to 1353, killing over
an estimated one third of Europe s entire population (Medieval World 56). Although historians are not
entirely sure of its origin, the Black Death spread quickly across both Europe and Asia with a death
toll that augmented rapidly. The plague also had unusual and deadly symptoms, causing panic
everywhere, with men and women knowing no way to stop death except to flee from it (Kohn 28).
The chaos created by the malevolent force of the Black Death impacted the society of Europe as a
whole. Despite the extent of the Black Death, we know surprisingly little of it (Cartwright and Biddiss
38); however, historians have presented numerous theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The bubonic plague was the main contender of the Black Death (Byrne 15 16) which was primarily
spread through the bacteria Yersinia pestis found in the stomach (Corbishley 47) of the Xenopsylla
cheopis, a common flea (Byrne 197). The flea would then feed on a host s blood, and regurgitate the
bacteria into the host, causing the victim to become infected the bubonic plague (Nox). The Rattus
rattus, or black rat, is considered to have helped the spread of the Black Death by carrying the fleas
that carried the bacteria causing bubonic plague (Byrne 196). Upon infection of the bubonic plague, a
variety of symptoms appeared quite quickly. During the first few days, victims would develop a
headache, chills, a fever, weakness, an increased pulse, and a white tongue. As the disease progressed,
red and black spots, also called gangrene, appeared due to the body s tissue dying, and buboes,
swollen lymph nodes filled with blood, puss, and bacteria, appeared on the victim s groin, neck, and
arm pits (Zahler 26 27). As the plague progressed, the bacteria began running rampant throughout the
victim s body, eventually developing pneumonic plague, a plague within the lungs (Cartwright and
Biddiss 30). The symptoms of pneumonic plague mirror the symptoms of en exceptionally virulent
pneumonia. Bubonic

Cultural Appropriation Has Been A Major Issue Of Interest
CULTURAL APPROPRIATATION Since time immemorial cultural appropriation has been a major
issue of interest to the extent it is discussed and analyzed using different opinions by people. Cultural
appropriation entails the use or adoption of another culture s elements either by an individual or group
of people. It has been customary among the people in the world who lend and borrow each other s
cultures which has continued for long since the human society began(Sanders 46). Controversies
might arise in cases when the elements of a minority culture are borrowed by the groups or individuals
from the majority culture. Such actions are seen as inappropriate copying of the rights or identity of
another culture. In such scenarios, culture elements would be said to have been adopted using the
colonial manner. The failure to use the elements within the original context of a given culture is
termed as wrong culture misappropriation. In most times, when cultural misappropriation takes place
there is distortion of elements which can also be lost.
The subordination of the cultural elements by the majority culture would involve the social, economic
or the political aspect. Then dominant or majority culture might adopt the elements of a different
culture and brand it as fashion. On the other hand, a different perspective and view is used to
determine the necessity of cultural appropriation and how it has continuously been adopted by
different cultures all over the world (Matthes 65). Many

Informative Essay On Bed Bugs
Does My Bed Have Bed Bugs?
Bed bugs are small insects that take up residence in soft furnishings, particularly mattresses. Bed bugs
feed on the blood of warm blooded animals, and human hosts can suffer an allergic reaction. If you
suspect that you have bed bugs in your home, it is crucial that you find and eradicate them before they
reproduce and spread.
What are bed bugs
Bed bugs are small, non flying insects that feed exclusively on the blood of warm blooded animals
making humans the perfect hosts. Most bed bugs will feed while their host is asleep. While feeding,
the bed bug will inject a small amount of saliva into the host s skin. Hosts can develop a sensitivity to
bed bug saliva over time, and this can eventually result in an intense allergic reaction. Bed bugs feed
every five to ten days, and a well fed bug can live for six to nine months. However, bed bugs can
survive in a dormant state for over a year without food. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, bed bugs can also move between apartments through holes in walls and through pipes or
tubes that are shared.
Signs of bed bugs
The first sign of bed bugs is usually a bite. A bed bug bite can take between a couple of hours and two
weeks to appear. Unlike flea bites, these bites do not have a red centre, and will usually appear in a
row of two or three. Bites can become red and swollen, and may be itchy. Although bites do not
require medical treatment, steroid creams and oral anti histamines can alleviate symptoms.
Adult bed bugs, hatchlings and eggs are all visible to the naked eye. Adult bed bugs are about 5mm to
7mm long, range in colour from white to orangey brown, and are oval and flat in shape. A female lays
about five eggs a day. These milky white eggs take about two weeks to hatch, and the newborns,
called hatchlings, are about the size of a poppy

development of the programmes they intend to start to increase participation in sport. Lack of funding
means that the Irish Sports Council can only use a limited amount of resources and provide a limited
amount of programmes to ensure that they remain within the budget provided. Similarly, the lowered
budget means that less people can be employed to grow the programmes and raise awareness of the

Comparing The Attitude Of Satan And Jesus In Paradise Lost
Many examples exist that contrast the attitudes of Satan and Jesus. Paradise Lost is one such example
that displays the negative attitudes of pride, hate, and rebellion that Satan has. On the contrary, the
Bible is an excellent source that shows Jesus attitudes of humility, love, and submission.
Firstly, Satan had an attitude of pride in Paradise Lost. One example of his pride was when he said he
desired, being the contrary of His high will. This shows his pride because Satan just wants to
contradict God. Another example of pride was when Satan said, to be weak is miserable, implying that
serving God, the Creator of all things, was a sign of weakness. A final example of Satan s pride was he
said it was, better to reign in hell then serve in Heaven. This also shows that Satan viewed serving
God as undesirable. However, the Bible shows Jesus has the quality of humility. This is shown in
Luke 4:24, when it said, Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his home town. This shows
humility because Jesus could have demanded the respect he deserves, but he did not. Instead he
allowed himself to be shut out and rejected. Another example of Jesus humility came from Matthew
20:28a, even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. This clearly shows humility because
Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior came to serve. Similarly, John 13:5a says, Then he poured water into
a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, again showing servanthood instead of Lordship.
Secondly, Satan had the attitude of hatred. This is shown when he said, farthest from Him is best. This
displays that Satan does not want to be anywhere God is which is why God created hell, as a place
where Satan can dwell without God s presence. Another time hatred was shown was when Satan said,
ever to do ill our sole delight. This paints a picture that Satan hates people so much that the only way
he is happy was when people suffer. Although Satan hates everyone, Jesus is full of love for people.
This is shown in John 14:2b, which says, In my Father s house are many rooms. If it were not so,
would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? This shows Jesus love because he has gone
to Heaven to prepare a place for

The Pros And Cons Of War
Is it possible for any good to come from war or loss of lives? There are always casualties of war
including some innocent lives that just get caught in the midst of assault. A war is a large scale combat
involving hundreds to thousands of soldiers fighting for their country, freedoms, religious liberty. Of
course that means war has a bigger impact and must be carefully considered and justified before
attempted. Massacres differ greatly from war simply because they have no good purpose other than to
destroy life. They are always senseless hate crimes against innocent human beings intended only to
strike fear and devastation into others. The world has been at war for centuries from disagreements
which should be expected among countries and nations due to different cultures, values, and beliefs.
No one has the right to decide that killing is justified.
Politicians and leaders of nations may claim that war is necessary for a variety of reasons. Protecting
land boundaries, power and control, and the right to live and practice religion are some of the most
common reasons why war may take place. At least there are specific reasons for war. Soldiers know
what they are fighting for and they believe in it enough to do so rather than be imprisoned or exiled. A
just war means that there needs to be a legitimate reason that justifies it, and that there is no other way
to resolve the conflict. Wars usually come about between whole nations or groups of people that are
fighting for a

Critically analyse the Marxist approach to understanding and explaining crime
Why did you choose this topic?
I was first originally pressed to this topic not only because am I completing a bachelor of social

have learnt about Karl Marx and his contributions to sociology including the theories of dialectical

In this journal Cowling explores the many ways in which Marxism has been used to analyze crime. He
has presented a summary of the reasonable opportunities in using Marxism to construct awareness of
his criminological theory.
Identity and discuss three of the key concepts and/or principles associated with the theory that is

Initially, Marxism emphases on the conflict of three socioeconomic classes:
The capitalists, who own the income of construction and manipulate the excess labour of others.
The Bourgeoisie, who hold salaried and management (i.e. middle class) positions.
The proletariat, who comprise the working class people.
According the Marx, the capitalist economic structure is sustained by the superstructure of social

Photography And The Art Of Photography
Photography. To truly appreciate the art of photography, it must be known that it is not some simple
task where all one does is press down on the button. This is not all that it is. Photography skills vary
from person to person, and can evolve over time. When looking back on the past, one can see how
personal photography is to a photographer. Even from historical photographers such as Ansel Adams,
Dorothea Lange, George Hurrell, Eadweard Muybridge, and many others, it is noticeable that
photography styles truly do vary from person to person. Each has their own technique for capturing an

Understanding Children s Creative Thought
Discussion #2: Foundations of Creative Thought Destinee D. Scott Ms. Brinkley Creative Arts CD
367 001 Alcorn State University May 30, 2018 Abstract This discussion post explores chapters one
and two from the text Creative Thinking and Arts Based Learning: Preschool through Fourth Grade
(Seventh Edition) by authors Joan Packer Isenberg and Mary Renck Jalongo. Using my textbook, I
will identify the importance of understanding children s creative thought and expression. As children
age from preschool to fourth grade, their creativity advances from knowing only initials and blurting
out small communication amongst each other to learning how to come together and work in groups to
accomplish a project. In addition, I will also explain the effectiveness ... Show more content on

It supports children s growth and learning across ages, domains, and cultural. Isenberg and Jalongo
(2018) also explain that games support cognitive skills such as decision making and problem solving
abilities; language skills such as speaking and listening; social skills such as turn taking and
cooperating; self regulation skills such as exercising control over their emotions, thinking, and actions;
and physical skills such as writing and drawing. The four types of cognitive play are functional play,
symbolic play, constructive play, and games with rules (Isenberg and Jalongo, 2018). In addition,
social play develops from solitary play in preschoolers to cooperative play in fourth graders. Teachers
perform six roles when supporting children s play: observer, collaborator, planner, responder, role
model, and mediator. From my understanding, all of the roles must be completed to support children s

Canadian Wine Industry Essay
The Canadian Wine industry is a relatively small player on the worldwide market with a wine export
value of approximately $54 million in 2013, making up just 0.15% of global wine exports. This is
largely due to Canadian grape grower s inability to compete with producers in countries with more
favourable weather conditions for growing grapes. For example, in 2007 Canada used approximately
8,000 hectares of land to grow grapes compared to the EU s 3.5 million hectares, 2.5 million of which
were in France alone. Despite Canada s land size, there are only a few regions where the climate
allows for a long enough growing season for grapes to mature on the vine.

Economies of scale are critical for low priced wine production, but not essential for premium priced
wine production, making the premium wine product segmentation a well suited niche for Canada s
wine industry. Ice Wine is produced from grapes that were left to freeze on the vine so Canada s
climate is an ideal environment for wine producers to capture the Ice Wine market. Given Canada s
susceptibility to bad weather, favourable conditions for Ice Wine grape production, and high cost/low
production winery economic model, it is no wonder that the wine industry in Canada has grown
steadily around the Ice Wine high end product segmentation international niche market. Canadian
wine exports totaled 42 million litres in 2013, valued at $54 million; of which 2.2 million litres was
premium wine, valued at $36.3 million. Despite an apparent steady growth, the industry is heavily
influenced by weather and Canada s growing season so revenue decline can be seen in years where
vineyards in Canada produced bad harvests due to weather restrictions. For example, in 2003 2005
Canada experienced severe cold weather conditions, particularly in Ontario, and grape availability was
drastically reduced as a result. This had a significant impact on the wine industry in Canada as a whole
as well as the export

Andrew Jackson Argumentative Essay
My Thoughts On Andrew Jackson
It is true, Andrew Jackson has been quoted saying My only two regrets in life, are that I did not hang
Calhoun and shoot Clay. In my personal conviction I believe that he did not say this out of an anger,
but as an explanation for his personal conflicts with Calhoun and Clay. I can see how people assumed
he was angry when he said this. Andrew Jackson had a reason to hate Calhoun, since Calhoun called
Andrew s wife a whore, and caused his family lots of problems. I think Jackson s anger towards Clay
started in 1819, when Clay castigated Jackson for his unauthorized invasion of west Florida. Clay was
also a big part of John Quincy Adams s winning of the presidency. Andrew Jackson, even though he

killed his men that left, he threatened his men, Jackson was responsible for the trail of tears, and
finally he left for battles that he did not have permission for. Andrew Jackson did do many inhuman
things though. Jackson led the battle of Horseshoe Bend. Jackson did do inhuman things like kill any

and won for Jackson. Jackson also defeated the Creek Indians. I think the way Jackson was raised up

Western Civilization and Happiness and Justice
How can Western Civilization avert decline and promote happiness and justice? In a world of political
and celebrity scandals from the raunchy to the greedy, our culture is full of corruption and an
obsession with fame. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Sylvia Plath s The Colossus both explore the
West s moral blindness and our paralysis of feeling and thought in the twentieth century. Western
civilization is becoming a wildfire fueled by tragic ignorance, societal norms and corruption. This
must be exposed in order for any cultural epiphany to occur.
Judge Brack is the definition of the colossus in Hedda Gabler. He is someone people trust and build up
to be an honorable and insightful leader, but in the end he is a vulgar and immoral individual full of
Dionysian corruption, and lacking any apollonian qualities. Brack throws frequent stag parties that
eventually evolve into wild nights of debauchery. He and the men he invite drink and participate in
orgies. While at night he is an unrefined sexual animal, during the day he is the definition of justice
and trust. During his interactions with Hedda he reveals his deep misogynistic beliefs and his sense of
power over her. Instead of letting her display her power through her pistols, he treats her like a child
telling her that we ll have no more of that kind of fun today, (249). He knows that she feels trapped in
the cultural norm of marriage, but he enjoys poking at her and making her feel weak as a woman. He

Funny Girl Essay
Many women have certainly proven that women can be funny by breaking into an entertainment
forum that is still today seen as quite the boys club : women like, Lucille Ball, Phyllis Diller, Joan
Rivers, Lily Tomlin, Whoopi Goldberg and plenty more. These women are comedians, the funny girls,
but what does it mean to be a funny girl? Using history and the feminist theory, this paper will provide
a perspective of what it really means to be that funny girl. So when did women become funny ? I
mean, I m sure that they always have been but when exactly did they begin to be recognized for being
that way? Female comedians have made large contributions to the feminist movement. During the

Personality Portfolio Personality tests offer an opportunity to learn more about psychology and about
oneself. I have just completed the Jung type sorter, the Big five inventory, the mating intelligence
scale, and the flirting style test. I had taken both the Jungian Type Sorter and the Big Five Inventory
previously, but now have a better understanding what my scores mean. The Mating intelligence and
Flirting Styles tests were both novel to me, I enjoyed these two tests the most, but have doubts about
the accuracy of my responses to questions. Jungian Type Sorter My Jungian type was Extraverted,
Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively, INFP due to a low preference for
extraversion over introversion (3% vs 1% respectively). Reading through the descriptions of both
personality types I cannot say that either align terribly well with my own self judgement. The
experience is reminiscent of reading a horoscope; I can easily identify with about half of the claims
made, while a quarter are slightly off the mark, and the remaining are dead wrong. Considering though
that the descriptions must be written to encompass scorers at both extremes of the scales, this doesn t
necessarily indicate a lack of validity in the model itself. The website lists some famous ENFPs.

whose gruff compassion I have always admired. Buster Keaton, a childhood favorite of mine, is an

The Symbols Of Kwanzaa And African-American Culture
Kwanzaa History
Kwanzaa, a seven day holiday that celebrates African American heritage. Dr. Maulana Karenga
created Kwanzaa to help African Americans remember their roots and to foster unity during a time of
incredible racial strife. It s been observed from December 26 to January 1 every year since 1966.
Karenga, a controversial figure in the black power movement, openly opposed Christian beliefs and
originally declared that Kwanzaa should be an anti Christmas of sorts. The name Kwanzaa is derived
from matunda ya kwanza, a Swahili phrase for first fruits, is based on traditional African harvest
festivals, combining customs from several different cultures. Each of the seven days represents one of
the seven principles of Kwanzaa, or nguzo saba. There are also seven symbols of Kwanzaa, which
celebrants display prominently in their homes throughout the holiday. The colors of Kwanzaa are red,
black and green the colors of the Pan African flag, which symbolizes unity among African people all
over the world. Black represents the people, red their blood and green the earth and the future.
Kwanzaa is, of course, a festive time; it has all the feasting and celebrating you d expect from a
weeklong holiday, but it s also an occasion for reflection, conversation, contemplation and
camaraderie. And although it s a relatively young holiday, it has its fair share of very specific, detailed
traditions. (Cooper, A. (2011, July 25). Kwanzaa:

disadvantages.
American Dental Association (ADA) has written and article on 5 Reasons Why Fluoride in Water is

swallowing the chemical is not. Miller goes on to explain how fluoride is damaging to the bones and

Carpenter ants are usually larger than most other house infesting ants. They vary in color from a dull

Why do fire ants bite
Fire ant is the common name for several species of ants in the genus solenopsis. They are, however,
only a minority in the genus, which includes over 200 species of Solenopsis worldwide. Solenopsis
are stinging ants and most of their common names reflect this, for example, ginger ants and tropical
ants. Many species also are called red ants because of their light brown color, though species of ants in
many other genera are similarly named for similar reasons. Examples include Myrmica rubra and
Pogonomyrmex barbatus.
None of these names applies in all countries nor to all species of Solenopsis, only to Solenopsis
species; for example the colloquial names for several species of weaver ants in the genus Oecophylla
in Southeast Asia include fire ants because of their red color and painful sting he two genera, however,
are not closely related. Also, Wasmannia auropunctata is commonly called the little fire

Chinese may choose to satisfy their sweet tooth with dried and preserved fruits or some other
traditional sweets. Also gums may be replaced by tooth brushing or mouth sprayer, etc.
However, in my perspective, those substitutes actually cannot replace all the enjoyments that
confectionery brings to consumers. For instance, preserved fruits cannot satisfy consumers desire for
fashion.
In this sense, the urgency of this area is also moderate to high. Wrigley needs to explore new
characteristics and qualities of confectionery that cannot be easily imitated by other products.
New Market Entrants (green zone)
Market entrance barrier is really very low in the sense that some of China s traditional sweets are
actually produced in traditional home mills.
However, as more technology is being involved into confectionery products, high end market is no
easy to enter. Wrigley s strong financial strength and product portfolio make it hard for outsiders to
affect its current business. Therefore, I believe that the threat from new market entrants is relatively
low. Supplier (green zone)
Since the raw material to be used in confectionery production is neither rare nor expensive, supplier
has a comparatively low bargaining power. The actual profit margin on manufacturing itself is not
high while the most value added process is sales and marketing. Hence, in my opinion Wrigley does
not need to leverage too much resource in defending

Currently, the conventional approach is to aggressively explore and develop new fields. This has led to

With supercritical water extraction and treatment, the heavy crude is upgraded to a medium to light
crude that is higher value and can be further refined at more facilities worldwide. In addition, it can be
transported and stored using conventional crude infrastructure already in place and leverage that
capital and operating investment.
Using supercritical brine , such as the water found with typical oil reservoirs or seawater (14) is the
key difference and what makes this unique. Based on the cited experimental work, heavy crude can be
hydrocracked more efficiently to make a medium to lighter crude in a relatively simple process. It has
been demonstrated that in one step, sulfur is converted to H2S for easy separation, metals can be
removed (25) and the heavy organic molecules are hydrocracked to shorter chain compounds with less
coking than obtained with conventional coking and hydrocracking methods.

By instituting a right to health care the U.S. could possibly lower cost, and make health care services

citizens are guaranteed a right to health care, total public and private health care spending could be
lowered by $592 billion and up to 1.8 trillion over the next decade due to lowered administrative and
prescription drug cost. The cost of healthcare in America has increased ( Health Affairs). A study done

Carney And Rosomoff s The Shadow Of Slavery
Carney and Rosomoff s In the Shadow of Slavery is a historical account of the role foodstuff, both
botanical and animal, from Africa played in the Columbian Exchange. The book begins by discussing
Africa s agricultural history and trade with the Old World. It continues with the need for food during
the Atlantic slave trade, how African plants came to the New World, and who was responsible for the
planting and care of African plants. Carney and Rosomoff deal primarily with the time period in which
the Atlantic slave trade occurred, though they do discuss African agricultural history as far back as
10,500 B. P. They focus on the Columbian exchange on the West Coast of Africa and Latin America.

The expansion of Islam allowed for the spread of item like coffee and sorghum the Middle East as
well as Muslim Spain. African plants like finger millet, tamarind, okra, and castor beans made their
way to South Asia via two trade routes, one connecting the Ethiopian Highlands and the Horn of
Africa and the other connecting the East African Highlands to Zanj. (Carney, 33) The banana, of
Southeast Asian origin, arrived in Africa and became a food staple in African farming.
African foods were vital to the support and continuation of the African slave trade. The slave trade
created an incredible demand for food both on the West coast of Africa and on the slave ships bound
for the Americas. Slaves had to be fed from the time they were captured to the time they arrived at the
destination. The food brought from Europe was not suitable for the conditions in tropical Africa. The
food necessary to provide for the enslaved, this included plants and live animals, on board the ships
was grown and bought in Africa. Significantly, locations of known food supplies along the coast came
to be identified by the food available in that location, for example the Rice Coast. The rise in demand
for slaves caused the populations of slaves and traders along the West coast of Africa to grow, which
increased the demand for food.

Invasive Species And Its Effects On The Environment
All of our Earth s ecosystems are fragile. The transfer of energy and the interactions within them are
kept in frail balance by nature, similar to a tightrope walker balancing themself at a height of a few
hundred metres. What would happen if that tightrope walker lost his balance and fell? Similarly, what
would happen if a species arrives at a foreign ecosystem? If a non native species negatively affects its
environment, then it is considered an invasive, or alien, species. The human society is in crisis.
Invasive species cause the damage of the native environment. They are one of the causes for the
decline in the human economy. The invasive species also negatively hinder our health. This
phenomenon is occurring in a global scale, impacting Lake Victoria in Africa to the Oak Ridges
Moraine in Canada. People are trying to use different techniques to control the introduction of
invasive species and negate their impact on the native environment. Invasive species are a threat to
their foreign environment and should be prevented from causing further damage. When mentioning
the term invasive species , its definition is ambiguous when taken out of context. It is when a non
native organism, or group thereof, negatively influences its introduced environment. From this
definition, any species on Earth has the potential to be dubbed an invasive species (Environment
Yukon, 2014). Thus, an invasive species can be found anywhere on Earth, and has occurred the

level dungeon named the Zoo of Death, containing all the many lethal creatures Humperdinck has
demonstrated his strength against. This was the one place where Humperdinck used to hunt and where
Westley was tormented, but the movie only used it as the place where Westley was tormented. They

Should Vere Be Considered a Hero in Billy Budd by Herman...
Billy Budd deals with a sailor who is the titular character of the novella. Billy was impressed on the
Bellipotent but he was accepted by the crew of the ship for being kind hearted and a handsome man
many people adored. One day, Billy accidentally spilled his soup and Claggart, who has a hatred
towards Billy, decides to plot against him. Late at night, Billy overheard two men talking about a
mutiny and was wrongly accused for the rumor (talking about mutiny against the captain is a crime)
by Claggart, the ship s master at arms. Billy, filled with animosity, retaliates by striking Claggart and
accidentally murders the man. The ship s captain, Vere, summons a drumhead court martial in fear of a
mutiny bursting in any second. Vere follows the rule and have Billy hanged. In the essays of Charles
Reich and Robert Martin, they claim that the decisions of the captain was wrongful. They are in the
right mindset to believe that Billy shouldn t had been killed. In Is Vere a Hero? Robert Martin argues
that Vere should not be regarded as the hero of the story. Vere never did anything to clear up Billy s
innocence like launching an investigation about the entire event that happened. Instead, he ignores it
and just decided on Billy s fate, matters not if he is guilty for his actions or was a mere scapegoat by
Claggart. Billy killed a man and that is all that matters to send him to the gallows. Martin mentions
how Vere had perhaps abandoned his own humanity in favor of his position as

Analysis Of Frank Jackson s Paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia,...
In Frank Jackson s paper, Epiphenomenal Qualia, Jackson rejects physicalism, a philosophical theory
that states that everything in the world that exists, including all that is mental, is physical.
Additionally, physicalists believe that everything in the world can be explained through the laws of
fundamental physics. Furthermore, Jackson uses thought experiments such as Mary s room, in order to
demonstrate the non physical nature that certain experiences can create. Rather, Jackson believes that
these non physical experiences can be explained by information known as epiphenomenal qualia. In
this paper, I argue that Jackson successfully introduces epiphenomenalism and proves his theory that
physicalism is false, since there are certain experiences, or qualia , that we have that can t simply be
explained through physical notions.
In order to fully understand how Jackson came up with his argument, one must first understand what
the words physicalism and epiphenomenal qualia actually mean in relation to Jackson s paper. Jackson
explains physicalism as a certain type of materialism, which is the belief that there s only one main
substance in the world and that is matter, or the physical material that make up the material world.
Materialism essentially rejects substance dualism, which says that there are two different types of
substances that exist, the matter that make up the material world and the mind, which is responsible
for our mental awareness and how we feel

Female Masochism
The role of masochism in the construction of the feminine psychosexuality
Changing the maternal object for the paternal object contributes to the birth of girl s masochistic
trends while masochism becomes the erotic basis of female libido (Deutsch, 1943 1945). This change
is essential insofar as the active aims will turn into feminine passive receptivity. The quality of
pregenital relations (Parat, 1964) determines the experience of penetration and the investment of the
vagina as a penis receiver. Poupart (2014) defines vaginality as the primal erotic appetence for
passively receiving the other within oneself.
Primary masochism enables to tolerate the pain by erotizing it. Furthermore, primary masochism s
function advantageously supports the differentiation from the maternal body. Primary masochism
ultimately provides an anchor to feminine secondary masochism. The latter favors the desire to be
sexually penetrated by the father, then the female body becomes a dwelling for the penis, even if this
fantasy matches with a strong oedipal guiltiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to more recent works (Schaeffer, 2002, 2009), feminine erotic masochism refers to the
woman s ability to introject great quantities of libido, whilst investing the masculine object that allow
to experience a sexual relationship of enjoyment. When confronted to a traumatizing breaking libido,
the woman erotizes the pain by linking it and relying on the primary erogenous masochism. In the
drive theory perspective, this position deals with abandon and offering oneself to erotic feelings with
no submission to the object. Like Rosenberg s notions (1991) of guardian of life masochism and
deadly masochism , passivity can either sublimate the pain or lead to unobjectivation , that is to say, a
total disinvestment of the object in the case of deadly masochism (Green, no

Resin composite materials are, complex blends of polymerizable resins mixed with glass powder fillers (Direct and indirect restorative materials, 2003). Originally, this material was designed and intended for anterior restorations only. Today, resin composite continues to be a preferred material of choice by dentists and patients, primarily because of the esthetic appearance and improved strength of the material (Hatrick et al., 2010). Today, the dental materials industry continues to evolve and has made tremendous gains on improving the mechanical properties of resin composite. Due to quality improvement of the material, Class I and Class II restorations are done using this material. (Alcaraz et al., 2014). In a 2013, article published in the Journal of The American Dental Association (JADA), authors discusses factors influencing the longevity of amalgam and resin composite restorations, over a 24 month period. The study was conducted by the National Dental Practice Based Research Network. The data analyzed in this study included patient factors, practice factors, and dentist factors. Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period. (Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim FMLA. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). My advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues pertaining to gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into designing more efficient background checking systems for individuals wanting to bear arms. I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the consequences caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many guns, including military grade weapons, have been circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this, the crime rate in the Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am often informed of the harsh results related to gun violence; News stations throughout the region report the jarring records of deaths and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I started to realize that my city was making a turn for the worst. • 13. Cultural Appropriation Has Been A Major Issue Of Interest CULTURAL APPROPRIATATION Since time immemorial cultural appropriation has been a major issue of interest to the extent it is discussed and analyzed using different opinions by people. Cultural appropriation entails the use or adoption of another culture s elements either by an individual or group of people. It has been customary among the people in the world who lend and borrow each other s cultures which has continued for long since the human society began(Sanders 46). Controversies might arise in cases when the elements of a minority culture are borrowed by the groups or individuals from the majority culture. Such actions are seen as inappropriate copying of the rights or identity of another culture. In such scenarios, culture elements would be said to have been adopted using the colonial manner. The failure to use the elements within the original context of a given culture is termed as wrong culture misappropriation. In most times, when cultural misappropriation takes place there is distortion of elements which can also be lost. The subordination of the cultural elements by the majority culture would involve the social, economic or the political aspect. Then dominant or majority culture might adopt the elements of a different culture and brand it as fashion. On the other hand, a different perspective and view is used to determine the necessity of cultural appropriation and how it has continuously been adopted by different cultures all over the world (Matthes 65). • 17. Comparing The Attitude Of Satan And Jesus In Paradise Lost Many examples exist that contrast the attitudes of Satan and Jesus. Paradise Lost is one such example that displays the negative attitudes of pride, hate, and rebellion that Satan has. On the contrary, the Bible is an excellent source that shows Jesus attitudes of humility, love, and submission. Firstly, Satan had an attitude of pride in Paradise Lost. One example of his pride was when he said he desired, being the contrary of His high will. This shows his pride because Satan just wants to contradict God. Another example of pride was when Satan said, to be weak is miserable, implying that serving God, the Creator of all things, was a sign of weakness. A final example of Satan s pride was he said it was, better to reign in hell then serve in Heaven. This also shows that Satan viewed serving God as undesirable. However, the Bible shows Jesus has the quality of humility. This is shown in Luke 4:24, when it said, Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his home town. This shows humility because Jesus could have demanded the respect he deserves, but he did not. Instead he allowed himself to be shut out and rejected. Another example of Jesus humility came from Matthew 20:28a, even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. This clearly shows humility because Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior came to serve. Similarly, John 13:5a says, Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, again showing servanthood instead of Lordship. Secondly, Satan had the attitude of hatred. This is shown when he said, farthest from Him is best. This displays that Satan does not want to be anywhere God is which is why God created hell, as a place where Satan can dwell without God s presence. Another time hatred was shown was when Satan said, ever to do ill our sole delight. This paints a picture that Satan hates people so much that the only way he is happy was when people suffer. Although Satan hates everyone, Jesus is full of love for people. This is shown in John 14:2b, which says, In my Father s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? This shows Jesus love because he has gone to Heaven to prepare a place for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are always casualties of war including some innocent lives that just get caught in the midst of assault. A war is a large scale combat involving hundreds to thousands of soldiers fighting for their country, freedoms, religious liberty. Of course that means war has a bigger impact and must be carefully considered and justified before attempted. Massacres differ greatly from war simply because they have no good purpose other than to destroy life. They are always senseless hate crimes against innocent human beings intended only to strike fear and devastation into others. The world has been at war for centuries from disagreements which should be expected among countries and nations due to different cultures, values, and beliefs. No one has the right to decide that killing is justified. Politicians and leaders of nations may claim that war is necessary for a variety of reasons. Protecting land boundaries, power and control, and the right to live and practice religion are some of the most common reasons why war may take place. At least there are specific reasons for war. Soldiers know what they are fighting for and they believe in it enough to do so rather than be imprisoned or exiled. To truly appreciate the art of photography, it must be known that it is not some simple task where all one does is press down on the button. This is not all that it is. Photography skills vary from person to person, and can evolve over time. When looking back on the past, one can see how personal photography is to a photographer. Even from historical photographers such as Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, George Hurrell, Eadweard Muybridge, and many others, it is noticeable that photography styles truly do vary from person to person. Each has their own technique for capturing an image. Each one has their own purpose when they push that button. Not one of them takes a picture intending to capture what someone else already has. They all want to take what they see in the moment and then preserve it to be held throughout time. Not only has photography allowed these people and many others after their existence to be able to express how they see the world, but it has also opened the doors for all those other people to join in on such an art. No longer being limited to paintings and drawings, people from all over could, as they became more accessible, obtain and utilize a camera. • 23. Canadian Wine Industry Essay The Canadian Wine industry is a relatively small player on the worldwide market with a wine export value of approximately $54 million in 2013, making up just 0.15% of global wine exports. This is largely due to Canadian grape grower s inability to compete with producers in countries with more favourable weather conditions for growing grapes. For example, in 2007 Canada used approximately 8,000 hectares of land to grow grapes compared to the EU s 3.5 million hectares, 2.5 million of which were in France alone. Despite Canada s land size, there are only a few regions where the climate allows for a long enough growing season for grapes to mature on the vine. Economies of scale are critical for low priced wine production, but not essential for premium priced wine production, making the premium wine product segmentation a well suited niche for Canada s wine industry. Ice Wine is produced from grapes that were left to freeze on the vine so Canada s climate is an ideal environment for wine producers to capture the Ice Wine market. Given Canada s susceptibility to bad weather, favourable conditions for Ice Wine grape production, and high cost/low production winery economic model, it is no wonder that the wine industry in Canada has grown steadily around the Ice Wine high end product segmentation international niche market. Canadian wine exports totaled 42 million litres in 2013, valued at $54 million; of which 2.2 million litres was premium wine, valued at $36.3 million. Despite an apparent steady growth, the industry is heavily influenced by weather and Canada s growing season so revenue decline can be seen in years where vineyards in Canada produced bad harvests due to weather restrictions. In my personal conviction I believe that he did not say this out of an anger, but as an explanation for his personal conflicts with Calhoun and Clay. I can see how people assumed he was angry when he said this. Andrew Jackson had a reason to hate Calhoun, since Calhoun called Andrew s wife a whore, and caused his family lots of problems. • 25. Western Civilization and Happiness and Justice How can Western Civilization avert decline and promote happiness and justice? In a world of political and celebrity scandals from the raunchy to the greedy, our culture is full of corruption and an obsession with fame. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Sylvia Plath s The Colossus both explore the West s moral blindness and our paralysis of feeling and thought in the twentieth century. Western civilization is becoming a wildfire fueled by tragic ignorance, societal norms and corruption. This must be exposed in order for any cultural epiphany to occur. Judge Brack is the definition of the colossus in Hedda Gabler. He is someone people trust and build up to be an honorable and insightful leader, but in the end he is a vulgar and immoral individual full of Dionysian corruption, and lacking any apollonian qualities. Brack throws frequent stag parties that eventually evolve into wild nights of debauchery. He and the men he invite drink and participate in orgies. While at night he is an unrefined sexual animal, during the day he is the definition of justice and trust. During his interactions with Hedda he reveals his deep misogynistic beliefs and his sense of power over her. Instead of letting her display her power through her pistols, he treats her like a child telling her that we ll have no more of that kind of fun today, (249). Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa to help African Americans remember their roots and to foster unity during a time of incredible racial strife. It s been observed from December 26 to January 1 every year since 1966. Karenga, a controversial figure in the black power movement, openly opposed Christian beliefs and originally declared that Kwanzaa should be an anti Christmas of sorts. The name Kwanzaa is derived from matunda ya kwanza, a Swahili phrase for first fruits, is based on traditional African harvest festivals, combining customs from several different cultures. Each of the seven days represents one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, or nguzo saba. There are also seven symbols of Kwanzaa, which celebrants display prominently in their homes throughout the holiday. The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black and green the colors of the Pan African flag, which symbolizes unity among African people all over the world. Black represents the people, red their blood and green the earth and the future. Kwanzaa is, of course, a festive time; it has all the feasting and celebrating you d expect from a weeklong holiday, but it s also an occasion for reflection, conversation, contemplation and camaraderie.
