Controversies On Native American Names
Dajana Nalvarte Sociology November 10, 2014 Controversies on Native American Names For
many years several schools, sports, companies, things, and mascots have their names named
after Native Americans. The Native Americans have been fighting to take their names back after
so many years. They feel that it is an offensive expression to use their names on things and want
the names to be changed to something else. Then you have the opposing side that say the name
is a form of positive respect towards the Native Americans. This becomes a controversy amongst
both sides because both have different opinions on what the names stand for. Throughout the
United States about 4,600 schools use Native Americans names for their teams and mascot (99;
pt.3). These schools use logos of people, animals, and cartoon characters of the Native American
to represent their teams (99; pt. 3). For example, Huntley High School in Huntley, III has used a
Native American name for their sports team, and mascot for about 70 year (99; pt. 3). Not only
is the school recognized for being the Redskins, but they have been using the name Redskins
respectfully for all these years (99; pt.3). Even though the school is proud of the name and use it as
a positive symbol others say they are degrading and offended the Native Americans (99; pt. 3). It
started with protesters that wanted the school to change their names to something else. The school
officials wanted to calm down these protesters so

Fluoride And Its Effect On Our Lives
Drink 8 glasses of water a day! Everywhere you go, you see and hear this but would you if you
knew what was in it? If you knew would you still drink it? Lots of chemicals are added to get
water fresh and pure. You re told they all have health benefits. But is this true? One chemical isn t
as healthy as all the rest. It s quite harmful. This is fluoride. Fluoride shouldn t be in our waters
because fluoride in high levels can cause dental fluorosis, cavities, and decay. With fluoride in our
water, toothpastes, food and drinks, pesticides and even tea, it is easy to get more then you
bodies need. During the developing stage when you re an infant, and as you become a child,
fluoride can have some series effects that continue on as you grow older. Thus drinking the water
wouldn t be a good idea but you still have to. Along with damaging your teethfluoride can also
affect your cancer rate, your brain, and heart disease.
For Those Wondering.
Added to toothpastes and mouth washes to help defend your teeth from cavities is fluoride.
Fluoride helps in teeth support and repairs broken surfaces. It works by forming a strong
compound with other chemicals on your teeth so that they ll be less prone to acid attack. The acid
comes from the bacteria that live on sugars we eat. Brushing and flossing your teeth will get rid of
the bacteria and rinse them away but it doesn t help in the long term. Fluoride works to form a
compound that is long lasting to keep your teeth healthy and strong.

The Ethics Of The Encyclopedia Of Philosophy
The methodology I find myself basing most of my decisions off of is aretology, also referred to
as virtue ethics. Aretology is defined by Lovin as a system of thinking about ethics that centers on
virtues. Unlike deontology and teleology, which only focus on either rules or goals, aretology
combines both rules and goals making it a good basis for ethical decisions.
The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines virtue ethics as an ethical approach that
emphasizes the virtues, or moral character, in contrast to the approach which emphasizes duties or
rules (deontology) or that which emphasizes the consequences of actions (consequentialism).
Additionally, The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives an example of a virtue ethicist by
saying that a virtuous person will help someone in need because it is charitable and contributes to
the good of society.
The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives a very similar definition that says that areteology
is a broad term for theories that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral philosophy
rather than either doing one s duty or acting in order to bring about good consequences. The
Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy also says that aretology was inspired by Aristotle, who said
that a virtuous person would have ideal character traits, which begin as instincts and are then
established after gaining personal experience. Lovin goes on to give Aristotle s definition of a
virtue, which is a pattern of behavior

The Neo Classical Model Of Economics
MONETARISM The 1930 s saw the neo classical model of economics, championed by Walras
and Mengers, crumble as rates of unemployment rose exponentially on a global scale. In the
midst of this economic crisis Keynes offered solution to the crisis in his 1936 General theory of
Employment, Interests and Money . He successfully argued that the state was alone capable of
steering the economy to produce social stability and social justice (Valentine, 2003) Thus the
post war consensus was formed and consequentially the centre ground of politics redefined,
Keynesianism socialist model would hold sway for the quarter century following World War II.
The decade of the 1970s was characterized by high and rising inflation and slow economic growth
(Jahan and Papageorgiou, 2014). Keynesianism couldn t answer the soaring inflation, Hayek, who
warned Keynesianism was a road to serfdom (The Economist, 2013) and Friedman s neoliberal
model could and Thatcher recognised this. The essential economic task of Thatcher was the
desertion of Keynesian macro economics (Valentine, 2013). The result was an adoption of
Monetarism, a belief in controlling the money supply as a means of controlling inflation (Viven,
2003). The 1970 s economy was corroded to the breaking point due to the clout of the unions.
Edward Heaths Conservative government was plagued by continuous strikes that led to the
declaration of the three day working week. Inflation was rising as high as 24%, with one million

Google Making USupid Logos
In Is Google Making Us Stupid? (2008), Nicholas Carr maintains that the advent of the Internet
has produced a shallow generation of information customers who lack the ability to deeply
engage with and critically think about a text. To support the argument, Carr draws on personal
and historical anecdotes and one scientific study. The purpose of Carr s article is to open a
dialogue about the potentially adverse effects the Internet could have on humans cognitive
processes. Carr establishes an informal relationship with the audience, who are generally well
educated, upper middle class individuals. Because the audience is educated, they are very
capable of critically thinking. However, Carr s use of other rhetorical strategies disarms them
and detracts from the dearth of logos. His essay is rife with numerous unfounded premises, poor
evidence, and logical fallacies. Because of this lack of logos is in a way compensated by
including numerous appeals to ethos and pathos, the audience is likely to find the article
persuasive unless they re read the article deeply with a critical lens. Carr s thesis is founded on two
main premises: first, the population s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study has several validity issues: first, there was no control group, nor was there a pre test.
This means that there was no baseline to compare the results to, nor was there a control group to
determine if the change was a result of the variable in question (the Internet). Second, the study only
examined journal databases, which are frequented by students and researchers more often than the
general population. Therefore, the sample is not representative of the general population and the
results cannot be generalized to the broader population, which Carr did. Because this
methodologically unsound study was the only one he cited, it is evident the essay lacks logos.
Therefore, the first premise cannot stand from a logical

Compare And Contrast A Christmas Carol Book And Book
When people want to watch a movie that is based on a book, they usually read the book first.
Well, why on earth do they do that? Well, see sometimes even though they have the same plot,
sometimes things can be changed. Whether it being for entertainment purposes, or to make the
film shorter or longer, things usually will be changed when creating a movie inspired by a book.
People probably have a few titles come to mind when they think about this, but a good example is
A Christmas Carolby Charles Dickensand the movie A Christmas Carol by Jim Carrey. Though both
forms of literature are based off of the same plot, they do have their fair share of differences and
similarities like any other adaption to a book. An example of this would be... Show more content on

Scrooge figured out who the dead man was in the book at his grave. After he realized it was
himself, he cried and pleaded that he would change. On page 77 of A Christmas Carol, It states,
...hear me! I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been but for this intercourse.
Why show me this, if I am past all hope? In the movie, Scrooge also figures out he is the dead
man at his grave and he is also saddened by the news, but after he discovers this, he is dragged
down into a pit reaching the bottom of the Earth itself, which is way past the normal burying
standards at six feet! This all shows how much a movie and a book can be so similar, yet so
different! If A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and the movie inspired by the book, A
Christmas Carol by Jim Carrey can be different, but the same plot, then imagine how many other

Autonomous Vehicle Deontology
I would choose Deontology for the programming of the autonomous vehicles. Deontology refers to
moral philosophies that focus on the rights of the individuals and on the intentions associated with
a particular behavior rather than its consequences. (Ferrell, et al, 2013, p.159). Why some other life
should be taken by the actions of the autonomous vehicle. The rights of the individuals in the video
in the other lanes would take preference over the autonomous vehicles rights. Since, the
autonomous vehicle would be programmed to not break the law and speed and follow safe
following procedures; the vehicle should be able to withstand the impact. However, even if the
impact is fatal, I believe the rights of the others in the vehicle should

War on Drugs Research Essay
Drug use and abuse is an expensive problem in the United States, both financially and socially. The
War on Drugs has been an ongoing effort to combat drug abuse, drug use and crime associated with
the drug trade. It s a war without a clear enemy. Anything waged against a shapeless, intangible
noun can never truly be won President Clinton s drugczar Gen. Barry McCaffrey said as much in
1996. (TIME 2009) Despite the trillions of dollars waged on the war on drugs and the countless

their day combating drug related crimes, whether staking out a dealer on the corner or

crimes. Over half of the prison inmates incarcerated between 2009 10 are there due to drug
related offenses, costing an average of 6.2 billion dollars annually. And more than half of those

stimulate growth for health reform, funding new medical research and abuse prevention programs.
The legalization of drugs would require full governmental control of controlled substances. Just as
with alcohol and tobacco government would control age limits, designated amounts and warnings.
Critics of legalization believe that by legalizing drugs the government sends a negative message to
youths that drug use

Themes In To Build A Fire By Jack London
Authors disclose important information about the themes present in their story, but often do not
directly state it. In the story To Build A Fire by Jack London, the author creates an endearing and
suspenseful story about a man travelling alone in the frigid and snowy Yukon valley, in search of
gold. The only that was with him were his little clothes and belongings, and a dog he did not know
much about. While the temperature of the Yukonwere certainly extremely dangerous to be out in,
the man went on his journey anyway, and inevitably landed himself in death. Through the narration
of his conquest, the reader can see that by lacking common sense and instinct, one can create many
problems for oneself. Throughout London s story, the reader can... Show more content on

As he trudged through the snow with the native dog at his heels, his thoughts were not occupied by
the danger that he was putting himself into. The temperatures in the Yukon were about 75 degrees
below zero, but that had no effect on the man, and did not phase him. The narrator states, He was
quick and ready in the things of life, but only in the things, and not in their meaning (London 1).
While the man could act fast when in dire situations, he lacked a common sense and natural human
instinct that could prevent him from landing in those situations in the first place. This quality
certainly took its toll on the man later in his journey, when his lack of realization of the cold
finally caught up to him. The narrator also stated, Nor did he think about man s general weakness,
able to live only within narrow limits of heat and cold (London 1). Once again, the unwise man did
not take into account the frigid and life threatening temperatures he was facing. Humans obviously
cannot survive in conditions like those, but the man, being ignorant, ignored this and went on with
his journey anyway. The man definitely showed his foolishness because he was so careless about his

The Depth Psychology Of Evil, And The Nature Of God
Corbett s parallel to his former religion continues in his chapter on the depth psychology of evil,
and the nature of God. In this section, he moves into theodicy, the attempt to justify God in the
face of evil (p.129). As Corbett explains, God image within the Western monotheistic philosophy is
one that is both all good and all powerful, but that the presence of evil in our world creates a
paradox of these two natures. The tried arguments is that either Godis all powerful, but in allowing
and/or creating evil means that he is not all good, or that he is all good, but inability to stop evil
means that he is not all powerful. This point creates a paradox of the Christian God, making him
impossible in the mind of modern person. Nevertheless, in his true fashion, Corbett moves away
from Christian ideology, but not away from the essence of it entirely. Instead, he proposes instead
a different nature of God. That is, a God of dual natures: abstract and concrete. In God s abstract
nature, he is timeless and perfect, while in his concrete nature, he is not all powerful, not
changeless, and not all knowing, and not the ultimate source in the universe (p.131). But, he is still
loving. The implications therefore are that using force is outside of his loving nature, so God
cannot stop evil, and that because god is within us all, he suffers with us. Corbett s argument makes
God compatible with actually sound belief in the nature of evil. Careful not to belittle the very real

The Endurance Of The Human Spirit Essay
African American Endurance
Bernard Kenan
Ashford University
HIS206: United States History II
Betsy Anderson
10/31/2016
The endurance of the human spirit is always able to be seen through the eyes of the less
fortunate. Not to discredit any other race or say that any race is superior to any other, however
the enduring spirit of African Americans could be seen during the 1800 s and still can be seen
shining brightly today. When one thinks of endurance, one tends to think about sustainability. In
this case I am talking about how long it would it take for the human spirit to broken and be
conformed and molded. There are a plethora of pivotal moments in history that led up to African
Americans having the ability to have a voice in America today, however I think there are four
events that shows the progress and that show how life in the United States changed over time for
African Americans. The events are the Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow, First African American
being signed to major league team, and the end of Jim Crow.
The Compromise of 1877 was a deal made by Republicans as well as Democrats secretly made to
resolve issues stemming from the presidential election of 1876, when both parties came to a
realization that the outcome of the Presidential race hinged largely on disputed returns from
Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina which are at the time the only three states in the South with
reconstruction era Republican governments still in power (Miller, 2013). It

Theological Issues In The Colossians
Colossians is the fifty first book of the Bible, the twelfth book of the New Testament and the
seventh book in the section Letters by Paul . Colossians has a total of four chapters and ninety
five verses. It is one of the letters that Paul wrote while he was in prison; therefore it is sometimes
referred to as a prison epistle. Colossians focuses on the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus. Paul
addresses three major theological issues in his letter: the supremacy of Jesus, the redemptive work
of the cross and Christian ethics.
Colosse was a little village, next to a popular city on the on the banks of the river Lycus. Aside
from their agricultural life style, their neighbors the Laodiceans, and the growing threat of
Gnosticism within the community, very little is known about the people of Colosse. By all
indications Paul had not visited the church of Colosse before writing to them. After Epaphras, one
of Paul s disciples, shared his concerns about the problems in the church, Paul wrote them a letter in

as a belief or opinion that does not agree with the official belief or opinion of a particular religion .
Paul wanted to assure the believers in Colossae that Jesus was the head of the church and a
relationship with Jesus was essential for all believers. Jesus was all that they needed. The law,
while good for keeping order, is not enough to save you, nor can there be a place in the believer s

L Oreal s problems and root causes should first be identified and addressed. The root causes of L

mass strategy, Plenitude has to change its image and the way people perceive its products.
Looking at the perceptual map (exhibit 9), Pond s and Oil of Olay which dominate the market
are perceived differently. L Oreal can position Plenitude in a similar way which attracts the
masses and still maintain its position as a class above the others: Technologically advanced a bit
pricier but worth it since it has better quality Readily available Change tag line from reduces
signs of aging to something like stay young and healthy to remove link to old age This will help
Plenitude widen its target market to include other segments. In terms of promotion and
advertising, L Oreal should change the star product approach and instead focus on the whole
product line or perhaps a set of products for a given target segment. In this way, L Oreal can
inform its customers on its products which should also help them in choosing the right product for
themselves. L Oreal should also focus on building the brand Plenitude since this is something that
customers are not aware of. They only know L Oreal. One of the problems mentioned was that
people were confused on which product to choose.

Deficit Theory Essay
Class is a socio economic set of groups, in which every individual falls into (Phillips, 2012), these
groups include lower, working, middle and upper class. These classes impact on the resources that
people have access to. This influences the environment in which a student is raised in, which also
impacts their on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, impacting their ability to succeed
in education. The correlation between a student s environment, health and home can be explained
by Bourdieu s class theory (Lyall, 2016), Pere s (1988) Te Wheke theory, Durie s (1994) Whare

Children can become stressed due to experiences such as living in violent neighbourhoods,
constantly moving homes and being bullied in school (Dobrin, 2012). Being stressed distracts
children from learning; they don t have the ability to focus on their work while they re worrying
about their home life (Levy, 2014). The deficit theory suggests that students from low income
families often don t do well in school (Irizarry, 2009; Gorski, 2010). A child s ability to learn can
often be based on the teacher s attitude about their learning ability. It is often instinctive for
teachers to approach a child s learning with their weaknesses in mind, not their strengths
(Gorski, 2010). Concentrating on what the child can t do allows for learning progress in this
area, enabling the child to keep up with the rest of the class. However, this can be discouraging
for children and can make them feel defined by their weaknesses. Research shows that when a
teacher is actively supportive of a child s strengths and weaknesses, as well as being involved in
their learning, that child will feel a better sense of belonging and engagement (Mainhard,
Brekelmans, Wubbels, 2011). Peters (2013, p.1) states Child poverty often goes hand in hand
with other social problems including child homicides, physical neglect and abuse, and sexual and
emotional abuse . Dealing with a poor home life and an unsupportive school life can be
emotionally and spiritually taxing for anybody, let alone a child. School needs to be a safe place
for children to come and feel equally supported alongside other students (Levy,

A proactive approach to estate planning is key to saving you and your family money over the long
run. Estate plans are designed to protect assets in the event that something happens to you. From
creating a living trust to designating a guardian, an estate plan is the best way to protect your
family. With an estate plan, you can:
Lower Your Estate Taxes
One of the most obvious reasons to create an estate plan is to lower the taxes incurred by your
beneficiaries. A lawyer can help you use techniques like living trusts to avoid or reduce estate taxes.
As a result, your beneficiaries can inherit more of your estate without sending it in as taxes.
Skip the Costs of Probate Court
In some cases, your estate plan may help your property to skip the probate process entirely.
Normally, your entire property would go through probate court for months as it is distributed
between your beneficiaries. In addition to taking time, this process can be extremely expensive.
There are ways to avoid the costs of probate court, but you would have to make a good estate plan
to do so.

Describe: Albert Bierstadt s The Rocky Mountains, Lander s Peak (1863) and David P. Bradley s,
Indian Country Today (1997) are created by different authors, possible for different reasons, but
they have a similar subject matter. They both picture nature. Bierstadt s painting shows the
landscape of the Rocky Mountains, hence the name. Pictured are rolling valleys, rugged mountains,
and what looks like a civilization of Native Americans. On the other hand, Bradley s painting is an
example of how modern India is viewed through his eyes. Instead of beautiful hills and mountains,
he illustrates roads, food trucks, vehicles, etc. Also, in the background what seems to be airplanes
are pictured, as well as, construction. The paintings have their... Show more content on

Bierstadt uses gradient features of color in his painting. He has lighter colors in the back of his
painting and darker colors in the front. This allows the painting to be subtle and aid viewers in
realizing the subject matter. Bradley, unlike Bierstadt, uses variety in his work of art. His
painting is made up of high intensity. He uses vivid colors and even shapes to express the
subject matter. The different colors used catches the eyes of those who view it. The artists chose
excellent colors to go with their paintings. Interpret: Bierstadt s painting shows the Rocky
Mountains in the 1800 s. The beautiful scenery expresses how stunning the world was during that
time. There were waterfalls, tee pees, and sprouting trees. The Earth has been bruised and beaten.
The scenery illustrated in this painting is rare. However, Bradley s painting seems to show what
landscapes are like presently even if it was created in the late 1900 s. The construction, the
entertainment by the dancers express that Bradley believes that India is more of a tourist spot now.
It is not appreciated for its beauty anymore. People come to watch the traditional dances, not
participate. They come and go, they do not usually settle. But he does show a person shooting an
arrow at the billboard that says, Land Development . So, this shows that maybe some people want
the authenticity of India back, maybe even the

Charles Darwin and Galapagos
Charles Darwin arrived at the Galapagos in 1835 ready to record everything he saw. Herman
Melville got there in 1841 with different goals. They were both young men when they took this
journey to raid the islands: Darwin raided in the name of science and Melville for food (Howarth,
99). After their respective journeys, Darwin and Melville wrote two different books describing the
same islands. The respective books made the headlines after they were written. This paper will
compare Charles Darwins The Voyage of The Beagle and Herman Miller s The Encantadas in an
attempt to show how their writing of the biological factors in the Galapagos was skewed by the
time they wrote, their mood when writing and their motive to be on the island.
Darwin was on the Beagle to gather specimens and spy on the Spanish colonial defenses. To keep
a detailed record everything he saw, Darwin sent immediate reports in letters during the trip.
When he got back to England, Darwin started diligently producing volumes of the zoological and
geological phenomena he found in during the voyage (Howarth, 101). One of the species he
records is the finch. He noticed how the different finch species had evolved to meet the nutrition
available in their habitat. His detailed letters gave him access to the information he needed to
describe the organisms he had seen when he began to write his book. He was on the island to
collect specimen and so his writing explained in great detail the specimens he had found and

Sns s Effect On Adolescence Essay
Having developed only a few years ago, SNS have had the most effect on adolescence.
Adolescence are prone various peer, group and social pressures, SNS have changed the channels

Peter, and Schouten (2006) looked at the effect SNS have on SE and well being in adolescence,
a correlation co efficient of r=0.34 suggested that there is a good positive relationship. Using a
popular Netherlands SNS CU2 , which contains 22% of Dutch adolescence aged 10 19, filled an
online survey, the study went on to find that SE is the cause, well being the effect and the
relationship mediated by SNS. The study suggested 3 reinforcement processes mediate this
relationship, a. the number of relationships formed, b. the frequency of feedback received via the
profile, c. the tone of this feedback. The self esteem measure used was the Harters self
perception profile (Harter, 1982). The study also used a well being 5 item satisfaction scale with
high reliability (О±=.89) (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, Griffin, 1985). Both scales were consistent.
The results found that people visited the site 3 days a week and stayed online for an hour,
receiving an average if 25.31 reactions. The tone varied, with predominantly positive (49.3%) and

The Immigration Problem Of Immigration
Since the 1970 s, the distinction between criminal law and immigration law has become
increasingly blurred. In many jurisdictions around the world, undocumented immigration was long
considered a civil offence in which violation resulted in fines and deportation. Now, however, illegal
crossings are often treated as criminal violations carrying overly punitive consequences such as
incarceration in harsh detention centers. The ever evolving assortment of laws and enforcement
measures concerning immigration, as well as negative rhetoric in politics and media, has resulted in
migrants being ascribed the stigma of criminal , alien or terrorist . This paper will explore the
criminalization of immigration phenomenon broadly by detailing the... Show more content on

Essentially, our social reality is influenced by the state constructed definition of what is crime
which often reflects the values of the upper class (Persak, 2016). For example, the trend seen in
many cities in the United States of criminalizing homelessness through so called get tough
policies reflects the upper classes desire for public health and safety, protection of economic
interests in business districts and the maintenance of city aesthetic. Although, these policies do
not address the causes of homelessness rather they exacerbate the problem and violate the
liberties and human rights of citizens (Foscarinis, Cunningham Bowers Brown, 1999).
Criminalization is perhaps the most repressive and intrusive applications of state power on a
citizen and is often implemented, as is the case with the homeless, to target the less desirable
social groups (Persak, 2016). Moreover, while formal criminalization in the form of legislation
and criminal consequences for infringement works as a social control, it is not the only form of
criminalization that occurs. Informal criminalization may in some cases be a more effective form
of social control and ultimately lead to formal criminalization of behavior or come as a result of
formal legislation. As stated by Hauptman (2013), informal social control measures are any social

Persuasive Essay On Bus Safety
The school bus safety in this time has gotten better and worse, but the one thing you don t see in
school buses too often are the seatbelts. I believe that seat belts are needed in buses.
The first patented seat belt was created by American Edward J. Claghorn on February 10, 1885
in order to keep tourists safe in taxis in New York City. This idea slowly became more popular in
the manufacturing of other vehicles. Competing drivers were the first to be required to wear a seat
belt. The real breakthrough with modern seat belts came in 1958 when Swedish engineer Nils
Bohlin was hired by Volvo and he designed the seat belts we know today through a three point seat
belt that better protects the driver and passenger in an accident. The three point design was created
to help secure both the upper and lower body in an accident.
Since 1966, vehicles in America were required to have seat belts in their cars. By 1975, most
first world countries had a seat belt requirement in their cars. Once the three point seat belt
became more common in cars, laws soon followed afterwards. By 1970, the world s first seat
belt law was created in Victoria, Australia, which required passengers to wear their seat belts at all
times. In the U.S., seat belt laws came around the time of the creation of The National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966.

Employee Contract Case Summary
The main issue in this case I whether or not Far Left misclassified Jimmy C as an independent

Labor the misclassification of employees as independent contractors presents one of the most
serious problems facing affected workers, employers and the entire economy. (The Misclassification

An independent contractor would supply many of his own necessary tools and supplies.
What is the nature and degree of the employer s control: an independent contractor must control
meaningful aspects of the work performed such that it is possible to view the worker as a person

Does the work performed require special skill and initiative and/or specialty licensing: an individual

determining whether the worker is economically independent. If the individual can easily be

The Canadian Government Has Been Faced With A Decision
The Canadian Government has been faced with a decision that could destroy an already delicate
relationship with the Indigenous Canadians. There have been several pipeline expansion proposals
to increase the production and extraction of oil throughout Canada and the U.S. The primary factor
delaying the Canadian Government from starting these projects is the Indigenous people. With
promises by the newly elected federal Liberal government and the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms, it has outlined the importance of the Indigenous peoplesrights when it comes to natural
resource extraction that affects their land.

There is controversy surrounding this topic. Donald Trump s political stance in Little Rock has
caused violent protests over the Dakota Access Pipeline, it would be in the best interest for the
Canadian Government to avoid a similar outcome. The Canadian Government must choose
between the relationship with Indigenous people and their rights or the profit that would lead
from the expansion of these pipelines. The three policies that will be outlined in this briefing will
be; The Canadian Government could move freely to approve the pipelines, without input or
consideration of Indigenous rights. They could negotiate with the Indigenous groups until both
parties are satisfied. Lastly, the Canadian Government could decline the proposals of the
pipelines because in a cost benefit analysis the negative impacts of the pipelines, could outweigh
financial gain. Option 1 One of the policies the Canadian Government could pursue is to move
forward and approve the pipeline expansions regardless of the Indigenous peoples perspective.
These pipelines would connect the oil sands in Alberta to markets globally which would lead to
economic growth. With these pipelines approved, it would mean greater exports. The Canadian
economy would profit as it would create jobs and

Canada And Japan Comparison Essay
You might think Canada and Japan would be very different! You are wrong, but also kind of right,
I guess. Why, you might be asking? Because ultimately, they have a lot in common, from the type
of government to the environment, but they also have a lot, and I mean A LOT, of differences,
such as beliefs, culture, and landscape. If you want some more in depth content about the two
countries, well, this project is for you! In these ten categories that I m giving you, there are some
similarities and some differences between Canadaand Japan.
1. Urbanization, living areas, and housing. Canada and Japan are both very urban countries,

Culture. It may seem that talking direct and to the point might seem normal in Canada, but
Japanese people consider that impolite, so instead they talk soft and quietly. If you have ever
been to Japan or will go there, you will notice they are very quiet and soft. Although the Japanese
do not prefer to talk as dry wittingly and sarcastically as Canadians, physical and slapstick
comedy is more popular with the Japanese. In both countries, men and women have equal rights,
but gender roles vary. In Canada, men and women can both go to work (e.g., if women go to
work, men stay back to take care of the family), but in Japan the men do all the work and women
leave their jobs after having children to be housewives and take care of the children, although
some women may go back to their jobs after their children are a little bit more grown up. In
Japan, most parents will want children to focus on getting better academic grades, whereas in
Canada, parents may be a little more free about homework and will want their children to get out
and play more. For example, In Japan, parents may get children to work on homework for multiple
hours, while most parents in Canada might want their children to go out and

Sarah Ruhl s Eurydice presents a modern interpretation and extension of the classic Greek myth of
Orpheus and Eurydice while employing an untraditional and unique structure. There are in turn
several interconnected structural choices that are purposely done and have significant implications
on the play s meaning. For instance, Ruhl meticulously and shrewdly contrasts significant climactic
moments with trivial arguments and discussions. This is done in order to enhance the contrast
between the mythic and mundane elements of the play, allow the characters to avoid emotion, and
establish an untraditional structure that fails to move towards a climactic event. Yet the very fact
that Ruhl makes a conscious decision to avoid a clear climactic scene... Show more content on

Essay about Object Permanence in Childern
Object Permanence in Childern
Often, research articles are composed of results of new findings and past research. Experimental
psychology relies heavily on the researcher s ability to further expand previous research conducted.
Child psychology, in particular, is constantly building unto old research in hopes of uncovering
more knowledge about children. More specifically, Baillargeon s article Object Permanence in 3
ВЅ and 4 ВЅ Month Old Infants is an example of one researcher utilizing proven research from
another. In this case, Baillargeon uses DeLoache s article Rate of Habituation and Visual Memory
in Infants to unveil more ground about the understanding of object permanence in infants.

The possible event was a box in plain view, which slowly disappeared by the rotating screen until
the screen leaned right up against the box at 112*. The infants spent more time looking at the
impossible event, which suggests that they understood that the object couldn t have disappeared.
Conversely, the infants spent less time looking at the possible event, which suggests that this event
was not interesting to them because they knew that the object had permanence. Therefore, some 3
ВЅ months old and 4 ВЅ months old do have object permanence.
In order to set up a valid experiment, one must make sure all the aspects of the experiment are
solid. Baillargeon set up an experiment that concentrated on object permanence, because she used
proven facts from other researchers. The reason Baillargeon used DeLoache s article in her
research was to validate one of her experiments that didn t perform the way she expected.
DeLoache s article states that infants habituate at different times, some fast and some slow, but all
infants are able to habituate to the same level. Thus, once habituated properly, no matter how many
tries, both fast and slow habituates are able to perform the same way. This interested Baillargeon
because in one of her experiments, the infants who habituated slower weren t able to tell the
impossible and possible events apart. As she explained, Their patterns were not unexpected, because
rate of habituation is known to relate to

Thanks to other players, soccer had the opportunity to reteach me. The first injury occurred

indoor soccer between outdoor seasons, since my friends from school made a team, and during
one fateful game, I jumped to head the ball before an opposing player could and ended up
drawing the short end of the stick in the ordeal. I was successful in reaching the ball first, but he
decided to push me just before I landed, causing me to plant my right foot improperly on the
ground and place my full weight on the side of my foot. There was an immediate pop. It felt as if
my foot detached and I was standing on the bare nub of my ankle. There was blinding pain, yet
no pain at all. Just pin pricks of blood flowing furiously. Before anyone could ask why I was

what is correct. What is wrong and what is incorrect. It help me to understand my personal
ethical base and how I can improve and become or centered. Although I was not far from center
my results showed I was a result driven, and valued autonomy and sensibly. The thing I need to
work on are becoming more rational and inclusively conceded about a group has a whole instead

Comparing The Storm God And The Serpent
The primary source I was assigned is The Storm God and the Serpent and is a Hittite source. In
broad terms, this story is telling the long battle between the Storm god and the serpent. This, like
many stories we have read and talked about is a constant struggle between good and evil , with
both parties taking the upper hand at some point. This story does have some different elements that
include love and family hardship that add to the story line. This next section will talk about the
battle between the Storm godand the serpent. At the beginning of the story the serpent smote or
hit the Storm god in the town of Kiskilussa (Line 3). This set the whole battle into motion that
the story is based off of. At first it seems like the Storm god is going to let the serpent get away
with the hit and just forget it happens. The Storm god calls all of the gods to him for the feast of
purulli (line 4). Inara had made so much food and drink that she invited the serpent to come and
eat as well. During the festival the serpent ate and drank so much that it was not possible for him
to return to his hole in the ground. Hupasiya tied up the serpent and the Storm god slewed the
serpent. (There is 40 damaged lines building up to the next part, but I believe one year has lapsed
and they are starting the next purulli festival (Line 20). This is when the serpent came... Show more

As we talked about in class with the thousand gods of Hatti , the Hittite people had many gods. In
the text when the Storm god was hit by the serpent he called all the gods to stand with him during
the festival and after the serpent was tied up, all of the gods stood behind him in killing he serpent.
This shows how important the vast number was and that people almost wanted quantity over
quality. I wander how this played in other areas other than fighting? Weather? Super Natural forces?

International Marketing Assignments
INTERNATIONAL MARKETING:
International marketing is the application of marketing principles to more than one country. The
intersection is the result of the process of internationalization. Many American and European
authors see international marketing as a simple extension of exporting, whereby the marketing mix
is simply adapted in some way to take into account differences in consumers and segments. It then
follows that global marketing takes a more standardized approach to world markets and focuses
upon sameness, in other words the similarities in consumers and segments. International market
goes beyond export marketer and become more involved in marketing environment in countries in
which it is doing business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Controversies On Native American Names Dajana Nalvarte Sociology November 10, 2014 Controversies on Native American Names For many years several schools, sports, companies, things, and mascots have their names named after Native Americans. The Native Americans have been fighting to take their names back after so many years. They feel that it is an offensive expression to use their names on things and want the names to be changed to something else. Then you have the opposing side that say the name is a form of positive respect towards the Native Americans. It started with protesters that wanted the school to change their names to something else. The school officials wanted to calm down these protesters so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lots of chemicals are added to get water fresh and pure. You re told they all have health benefits. But is this true? One chemical isn t as healthy as all the rest. It s quite harmful. This is fluoride. Fluoride shouldn t be in our waters because fluoride in high levels can cause dental fluorosis, cavities, and decay. With fluoride in our water, toothpastes, food and drinks, pesticides and even tea, it is easy to get more then you bodies need. During the developing stage when you re an infant, and as you become a child, fluoride can have some series effects that continue on as you grow older. Thus drinking the water wouldn t be a good idea but you still have to. Along with damaging your teethfluoride can also affect your cancer rate, your brain, and heart disease. For Those Wondering. Added to toothpastes and mouth washes to help defend your teeth from cavities is fluoride. Fluoride helps in teeth support and repairs broken surfaces. It works by forming a strong compound with other chemicals on your teeth so that they ll be less prone to acid attack. The acid comes from the bacteria that live on sugars we eat. Brushing and flossing your teeth will get rid of the bacteria and rinse them away but it doesn t help in the long term. • 6. The Ethics Of The Encyclopedia Of Philosophy The methodology I find myself basing most of my decisions off of is aretology, also referred to as virtue ethics. Aretology is defined by Lovin as a system of thinking about ethics that centers on virtues. Unlike deontology and teleology, which only focus on either rules or goals, aretology combines both rules and goals making it a good basis for ethical decisions. The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines virtue ethics as an ethical approach that emphasizes the virtues, or moral character, in contrast to the approach which emphasizes duties or rules (deontology) or that which emphasizes the consequences of actions (consequentialism). Additionally, The Stanford of Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives an example of a virtue ethicist by saying that a virtuous person will help someone in need because it is charitable and contributes to the good of society. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy gives a very similar definition that says that areteology is a broad term for theories that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral philosophy rather than either doing one s duty or acting in order to bring about good consequences. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy also says that aretology was inspired by Aristotle, who said that a virtuous person would have ideal character traits, which begin as instincts and are then established after gaining personal experience. Lovin goes on to give Aristotle s definition of a virtue, which is a pattern of behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Neo Classical Model Of Economics MONETARISM The 1930 s saw the neo classical model of economics, championed by Walras and Mengers, crumble as rates of unemployment rose exponentially on a global scale. In the midst of this economic crisis Keynes offered solution to the crisis in his 1936 General theory of Employment, Interests and Money . He successfully argued that the state was alone capable of steering the economy to produce social stability and social justice (Valentine, 2003) Thus the post war consensus was formed and consequentially the centre ground of politics redefined, Keynesianism socialist model would hold sway for the quarter century following World War II. The decade of the 1970s was characterized by high and rising inflation and slow economic growth (Jahan and Papageorgiou, 2014). The essential economic task of Thatcher was the desertion of Keynesian macro economics (Valentine, 2013). The result was an adoption of Monetarism, a belief in controlling the money supply as a means of controlling inflation (Viven, 2003). To support the argument, Carr draws on personal and historical anecdotes and one scientific study. The purpose of Carr s article is to open a dialogue about the potentially adverse effects the Internet could have on humans cognitive processes. Carr establishes an informal relationship with the audience, who are generally well educated, upper middle class individuals. Because the audience is educated, they are very capable of critically thinking. However, Carr s use of other rhetorical strategies disarms them and detracts from the dearth of logos. His essay is rife with numerous unfounded premises, poor evidence, and logical fallacies. • 14. The Depth Psychology Of Evil, And The Nature Of God Corbett s parallel to his former religion continues in his chapter on the depth psychology of evil, and the nature of God. In this section, he moves into theodicy, the attempt to justify God in the face of evil (p.129). As Corbett explains, God image within the Western monotheistic philosophy is one that is both all good and all powerful, but that the presence of evil in our world creates a paradox of these two natures. The tried arguments is that either Godis all powerful, but in allowing and/or creating evil means that he is not all good, or that he is all good, but inability to stop evil means that he is not all powerful. This point creates a paradox of the Christian God, making him impossible in the mind of modern person. Nevertheless, in his true fashion, Corbett moves away from Christian ideology, but not away from the essence of it entirely. Instead, he proposes instead a different nature of God. That is, a God of dual natures: abstract and concrete. In God s abstract nature, he is timeless and perfect, while in his concrete nature, he is not all powerful, not changeless, and not all knowing, and not the ultimate source in the universe (p.131). But, he is still loving. The implications therefore are that using force is outside of his loving nature, so God cannot stop evil, and that because god is within us all, he suffers with us. The Endurance Of The Human Spirit Essay African American Endurance Bernard Kenan Ashford University HIS206: United States History II Betsy Anderson 10/31/2016 The endurance of the human spirit is always able to be seen through the eyes of the less fortunate. Not to discredit any other race or say that any race is superior to any other, however the enduring spirit of African Americans could be seen during the 1800 s and still can be seen shining brightly today. When one thinks of endurance, one tends to think about sustainability. In this case I am talking about how long it would it take for the human spirit to broken and be conformed and molded. There are a plethora of pivotal moments in history that led up to African Americans having the ability to have a voice in America today, however I think there are four events that shows the progress and that show how life in the United States changed over time for African Americans. The events are the Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow, First African American being signed to major league team, and the end of Jim Crow. The Compromise of 1877 was a deal made by Republicans as well as Democrats secretly made to resolve issues stemming from the presidential election of 1876, when both parties came to a realization that the outcome of the Presidential race hinged largely on disputed returns from Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina which are at the time the only three states in the South with reconstruction era Republican governments still in power (Miller, 2013). Being stressed distracts children from learning; they don t have the ability to focus on their work while they re worrying about their home life (Levy, 2014). The deficit theory suggests that students from low income families often don t do well in school (Irizarry, 2009; Gorski, 2010). A child s ability to learn can often be based on the teacher s attitude about their learning ability. It is often instinctive for teachers to approach a child s learning with their weaknesses in mind, not their strengths (Gorski, 2010). Concentrating on what the child can t do allows for learning progress in this area, enabling the child to keep up with the rest of the class. However, this can be discouraging for children and can make them feel defined by their weaknesses. Research shows that when a teacher is actively supportive of a child s strengths and weaknesses, as well as being involved in their learning, that child will feel a better sense of belonging and engagement (Mainhard, Brekelmans, Wubbels, 2011). For example, the trend seen in many cities in the United States of criminalizing homelessness through so called get tough policies reflects the upper classes desire for public health and safety, protection of economic interests in business districts and the maintenance of city aesthetic. Although, these policies do not address the causes of homelessness rather they exacerbate the problem and violate the liberties and human rights of citizens (Foscarinis, Cunningham Bowers Brown, 1999). Criminalization is perhaps the most repressive and intrusive applications of state power on a citizen and is often implemented, as is the case with the homeless, to target the less desirable social groups (Persak, 2016). • 25. Persuasive Essay On Bus Safety The school bus safety in this time has gotten better and worse, but the one thing you don t see in school buses too often are the seatbelts. I believe that seat belts are needed in buses. The first patented seat belt was created by American Edward J. Claghorn on February 10, 1885 in order to keep tourists safe in taxis in New York City. This idea slowly became more popular in the manufacturing of other vehicles. Competing drivers were the first to be required to wear a seat belt. The real breakthrough with modern seat belts came in 1958 when Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin was hired by Volvo and he designed the seat belts we know today through a three point seat belt that better protects the driver and passenger in an accident. The three point design was created to help secure both the upper and lower body in an accident. Since 1966, vehicles in America were required to have seat belts in their cars. By 1975, most first world countries had a seat belt requirement in their cars. Once the three point seat belt became more common in cars, laws soon followed afterwards. By 1970, the world s first seat belt law was created in Victoria, Australia, which required passengers to wear their seat belts at all times. In the U.S., seat belt laws came around the time of the creation of The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966. From 2006 to 2015, there were nationally 301 school aged children who died in school transportation related crashes: 54 were killed by school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are in turn several interconnected structural choices that are purposely done and have significant implications on the play s meaning. For instance, Ruhl meticulously and shrewdly contrasts significant climactic moments with trivial arguments and discussions. Conversely, the infants spent less time looking at the possible event, which suggests that this event was not interesting to them because they knew that the object had permanence. Therefore, some 3 ВЅ months old and 4 ВЅ months old do have object permanence. In order to set up a valid experiment, one must make sure all the aspects of the experiment are solid. Baillargeon set up an experiment that concentrated on object permanence, because she used proven facts from other researchers. The reason Baillargeon used DeLoache s article in her research was to validate one of her experiments that didn t perform the way she expected. DeLoache s article states that infants habituate at different times, some fast and some slow, but all infants are able to habituate to the same level. Thus, once habituated properly, no matter how many tries, both fast and slow habituates are able to perform the same way.
