Should Wisconsin Accept The New Bill Of Student Rights Of...
For all humans in America, we should all believe that our rights are greatly valued. I believe that the
rights of students are valued just as much as human rights. More specifically, the right for student
privacy should extremely supported. It seems that the Supreme Court made a choice does not agree
with student rights. Nonetheless, the securityof an understudy s school information has an extensive
significance and are ensured by government and state directions. In the case that is review in the
article, the or EPIC opposes the state of Wisconsin. They claimed that the regulations given by the
government were simply not sufficient. They actually agreed the strength that the protection
students had is now decreased due to the choices of the Supreme Court. This also motivated them to
suggest that Wisconsin accept their new bill of rights which stood for student rights. It praised the
privacy approach for students and information surety.
In this event, they emphasised on the legislature to protect the security of a student information
could be broken as a moral matter to grow for the information technology community. Individual
data can be tracked in school records and should be ensured. These bill of rights for student
privacy explains Students have the right to secure and responsible data practices , (2016 EPIC).
It implies that data of school records will never be shown to anybody besides the correct people.
Unfortunately, it will not be so easy. The group did protest against this. Standing on the topic that

that it utilizes the details to find financial aid and school scholarships. In fact, the business s moves

Analysis Of Man On The Moon
Man On the Moon
When man first walked on the moon it was a very big accomplishment for mankind especially the
U.S.A., many people wrote articles or simply talked about and shared their opinions on this huge
accomplishment. In the text that appeared on Times magazine titled, Man Takes First Steps on the
Moon , one can see how much of an accomplishment it was for the U.S and many other people to
have been able to walk on the moon. In the text ethos and logos are used a few times to be able
to make a more possibly effective text on people reading the article and be able to show how
much of a huge deal this was for mankind. The following sentence is the first sentence in the
paragraph which says a lot about what the text is going to go towards, Neil Armstrong became the
first man to take a walk on the moon s surface early today. , seeing that the first sentence is about
how a man walked on the moon it shows most likely the rest of the text will be based around or
on this man s actions. The next sentence shows how many people including the president and
pope expressed how it was a huge accomplishment for mankind for a man to walk on the moon
and make it back to Earth safely, At Castelgandolfo the Pope greeted news of the lunar landing by
exclaiming: Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to men of goodwill! , it makes sure to
state it is the pope talking about the moon landing.
In the second text by William Safire instead of talking about how the moon landing

Eric Foner A Short History Of Reconstruction Analysis
Eric Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction is a shortened version of his Reconstruction:
America s Unfinished Revolution, 1863 1877; however, in the shorter version certain broad themes
unified the crucial narrative. His first theme is the midst of the black experience, second theme is to
trace the ways Southern society as a whole was remodeled, third theme is the evolution of racial
attitudes and patterns of race relations, and the fourth theme is the emergence during the Civil War
and Reconstruction. This narration of Reconstruction begins not in 1865, but with the
Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was done to stress the importance of the Proclamation in
unifying two major themes, grass roots black activity and the newly empowered national state and
to indicate that Reconstruction was the beginning of a broadened historical process: the adjustment
of American society to the end of slavery. Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction verifies the
authors prevailing leadership in historical revisionism. His extensive knowledge alters the scrutiny
of the historical standpoint, stimulating students and intellectuals to reconsider the assumptions of
prominent reconstruction works from foregoing eras such as those that influenced our
understanding of the Reconstruction era. Furthermore, Foner advises intellectuals to continue to
uncover neglected experiencesof the one of the most phenomenal eras in American history. Foner s
text provides a critical scheme for a more

The Secretary Chant
In this poem Marge Piercy s speaker evokes a concrete vision of a woman who has lost her
personal identity to her job. Her bold and descriptive use of metaphors allow the reader to envision
a woman who is living her life vicariously through her career. Ms. Piercy successfully uses paradox,
personification, and the pun to bring the character alive. With the use of metaphors, both implied
and explicit, the reader can deeply empathize with the central character of this poem.
From the first line of the poem the tone is set for the reader. It is not so vague as to use a simple
simile, but a strong manifestation of the idea of the speaker as an actual personification of a
material object. She does not say My hips are like a desk , she says ... Show more content on

Often times the secretary or office assistant are seen as nothing more than robotic extensions
completely devoid of human qualities. Press my fingers (11) is an instruction to her boss
explaining exactly how she is to provide a function as if she was explaining how to operate any
other piece of office equipment. Like any secretary she would have to organize an office and
explain to her boss where things were to be found when she was out of the office. From my mouth
issue canceled reams (16).
She is clearly telling her boss where he would find the used paper and closed files but the pun
intended is that whatever she tells her boss is ignored anyway.
By the time the reader gets to the end of the poem the secretary is fully developed as an inanimate
machine, Swollen, heavy (17). She has given up trying to be human and has resigned herself to the
fact that she has been taken over completely by the machines that surround her. Metaphorically
speaking, with the use of metonymy, the secretary, now as a machine herself is about to be
delivered / of a baby Xerox machine (18 20), thus perpetuating a species of human machines.
In the final four lines, the secretary decries that I wonce was a woman and that she needs to be
filed under W . She is again giving instructions to her boss that she now serves no real function as
a woman and should just be filed away and forgotten. In this way, Ms.

Physical, Cognitive And Social Development Stages Of Human...
Human development is a science that focuses on the observations regarding physical, cognitive and
social behavior of humans throughout their lifespan. Social workers must be aware of the various
dimensions that are part of normal development to help clients understand what is typical during
each developmental stage. Using a multidimensional approach, the social worker is able to assess
both strengths and risks factors of each evolving stage. Each stage of development involves
reaching certain milestones. It s important to understand that sometimes these milestones are not
reached due to environmental, personal or external factors that affect the normal process
development. The professional social worker must take into account factors such as culture or
sexual preference while assessing typical development. According to (Ashford and LeCroy, 2013)
there are seven different human developmental stages beginning with the physical development of
the fetus and ending with death in the late adulthood stage. Young adulthood is a stage of human
developmentwere many decisions take place. A typical young adultis between the ages of twenty
two and thirty four years old. Initial choices in love, lifestyle, values, and occupation occur. The
young adult is seeking to develop meaningful relationships, while building an occupational identity,
thinking about forming a family, seeking independence from its parents, and experiencing high

Healthcare Systems Vs. Australian Healthcare System
The following paper is based on the differences between two healthcare systems in two different
countries, these systems are the Australian healthcare system which is Medicare, and England s
National health system which is known as the NHS.
Starting with the organizational structure of the NHS, it is basically an umbrella organization that
comprises of four regional branches, in particular, NHS (England), NHS Scotland, Health and
Social Care in Northern Ireland and NHS Wales. The financing for all these institutions comes
from a universal source, particularly the tax payer money of residents of UK, although they operate
to an extent as self governing institutions. The treasury allocates money to the department of
Health, which in turn allocates money to NHS England (Understanding the new NHS). In other
words, the top executives of these four institutions take decisions independently for day to day
operations although they abide by broader governing directives applicable to the UK region as a
whole. Governance is an important aspect of the operating of the NHS, for without it exploitation
by private vested interests is likely to happen. (National Health Service (NHS): A study of its
Structure, Funding and Regulation, Strengths and Weaknesses, n.d.)
The Australian Medicare system is essentially based around private practice and fee for service. In
England, they have the National Health Service, which is a publicly funded healthcare system, this

An Analysis Of Todd Gitlin s Prime Time Ideology
In Prime Time Ideology Todd Gitlin Is attempting to demonstrate how the ruling class ideology is
transmitted through various features of American television. Giltin follows Gramsci and his
concept of hegemony as soft power that coerces the working class into obedience without any use
of physical power. At the beginning of Prime Time Ideology Gitlin is relating to Theodor Adorno
and the thinkers of the Frankfurt school of neo Marxist though who held popular culture to be
shallow and synthetic and as working to subjugate the working class. For this reason, the working
class does not revolt. Hegemonic media content dictates public life and it is a medium for

Guiding children s behaviour
Focus: Supporting children to build and maintain trusting relationships with peers, and to foster
their social skills.
Stimulus behaviour: Mahir (3 years old) actively participating in regular routine and play
experience on his own, with minimal or no interaction with others. Mahir demonstrate he has the
verbal language skills when he is pretend play with toy cars, and he shows receptive language skills
when interact with educators. However, Mahir s use of language in interaction is limited, he
requires improvement in language skill in order to develop better quality friendship (Porter, 2016).
Mahir display solitary play throughout the day, he was fully engaged in the activity by himself.
When other children talks to Mahir or initiate to play with him, Mahir does not seem to notice
other children, and maintains focus on what is he doing. According to Porter (2016), at age 2 3
years, children begin to seek out peers in earnest and they are more able to initiate interactions
(p. 157). Those evidence of social play development was absent in Mahir s case, as he display the
preference to play alone. Being socially isolated over time can have negative impact on children.
For example, depression or reactive aggression (Porter, 2016). Conversely, positive relationship are
beneficial to children s developments (Porter, 2016). Therefore, it is important to support Mahir s
social development.
The strategies I used to assist Mahir s social skills.

Wound Management
In this essay, I am going to discuss traditional and contemporary wound dressings and
management techniques. I will be comparing the traditional dressings with today s current modern
dressing. When choosing a dressing many circumstances have to be accessed as what type of
wound is it? This makes it a lot harder on which dressing should be used as there are so many
different types available today. Many that are used in the veterinary practice are in fact used by
humans.
When a wound is healing it is important to know the stages of healing so you can achieve the best
possible outcome. Wound healingis the physiological process of restoring the continuity of tissues

Algivon: Calcium alginate dressing impregnated with Activon Medical Grade Manuka Honey.
Useful for wounds that are producing higher levels of exudate as the calcium alguinate fibres will

Polyurethane foam dressings
Highly absorbent and act by drawing excess exudate away from wound. Maintain some moisture
through humidity to keep wound moist. They are commonly applied on top of other products e.g.
Hydrogels or honey. The dressing has a semi permeable membrane backing allowing oxygen
exchange and controlled evaporation, resulting in a moist healing environment. Foam dressings
with anti microbial properties are now available. The antimicrobial agent is called
Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB). The Polyhexamethylene biguanide attacks the bacteria in
wound exudate as it is absorbed. The dressing itself helps to maintain a moist environment and also

The Rise Of Caodaism In Vietnam
In the spiritual life of Vietnamese, religions such as Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism
and Islam are the mainstream. Each religion has similarities with the ethnic believes in Vietnam.
Nevertheless, one religion emerged and rose in an unimaginable rate during the twentieth century
Caodaism. It soon became Vietnams third largest religionafter Buddhism and Roman Catholicism.
The rapid rise of Caodaism is strongly related to its susceptible fundamental doctrines, combination
of various social groups, and strong historical context. From the French colonization and empiricism
of Japan, to the establishment of Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Caodaism played an important
political role thoroughly, and these events also deeply influenced the fate fo Caodaism.
Brief Introduction of Caodaism: Caodaoism was born in the province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam in
1026, after its founder NgГґ VДѓn ChiГЄu, a district head of the French administration in
Cochinchina, received a vision of the Divine Eye. Divine Eye was perceived as the focus for
worship on all Cao Dai alters in the culture of Caodaism. The word Cao Dai, literally meaning

America s Rights Of Utah
It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they
practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was
Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery.
(Republican Platform of 1856)
By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy
laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and
the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without
statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah
War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S.
could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the
territory status of Utah. (Davis)
In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and
more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in
Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000
to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting
statehood to the mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to
balance out the population. Congress turned out to be accurate. Utah s population at

Chief Oshkosh Red Lager Campaign Analysis
This 1962 logo features the brewing company s factor, and also depicts a red Chief Oshkosh
figure wearing a war bonnet and paddling a traditional canoe alongside a white figure with a
speedboat. The red shape behind the text also remains reminiscent of an arrowhead. This logo
clearly appropriates Native American traditions and motifs and misrepresents them from no other
reason than to advertise a product. In 1991, University of Oshkosh alum Jeff Fulbright attempted
to revive the microbrew with Chief Oshkosh Red Lager , which won several awards before
competing brands once again caused the obsolescence of the brand. Despite being designed after

Put into scale, Chief Oshkosh the Brave hardly seems relevant to the course of history. The vast,
winding web of competing stories that makes up the history discipline seems not the have room for
figures who weren t necessarily earth shakers, but ultimately any figure who makes the earth move
in some way contains value in understanding. Chief Oshkosh s life, while worthy of being
understood on its own, tells a much larger story of how white Americans treat Native American
figures. Just within the Oshkosh community, three different interest groups rework his afterlife
with three different tropes for three different purposes. The general public s apathetic ignorance
contributes to the Dying Indian trope, which reinforces their apathy towards the contemporary
Native American plight. The academic institutions glorification of Chief Oshkosh depicts him as a
patriot and a Civilized Indian, undermining modern Native Americans who suffer from double
consciousness or blend their heritage with their modern world. Certain business interests in the city
reduce Chief Oshkosh to a Noble Savage to sell beer that at one point contained less that one half
of 1% alcohol content by volume, which in the short term might sell more beer but ultimately
socializes white Americans to perceive Native Americans as closer to nature and less human. In this
one historical figure, three very different fictional characters have been perpetuated. As a city, if
Oshkosh is to do its namesake justice, they must work to subvert these afterlives and recognize
Chief Oshkosh as the flawed, multifaceted, and controversial leader that he

Abortion Is A Legal Medical Operation
Abortion is a legal medical operation which the government cannot control a woman s private
health care decisions. Since abortion was legalized in 1973, nearly 1,500,000 babies have been
aborted each year. In the last year there have been attacks on organizations that provide health care
services and abortioncare or abortion as part of counseling services. Around the country, states have

During the late 1960s and the early 1970s, the United States performed reforms that made
abortions available. Abortion was defined as a health right and it allowed the procedure when
doctors concluded it was medically necessary. The supreme court appointed for life issued
sweeping rules that shocked the lawyers for expanded abortion rights. The public opinion
defined abortion as a privacy right and open abortions at the request of a pregnant woman.
Opponents of abortion came back with strong complaints that assumed the power of
democratically elected legislatures. There are six main ways to abort a baby. The first is RU 486,
it is a drug that promotes abortion taken after the mother misses her period. It can only be used up
to the second month of pregnancy by blocking progesterone from developing the baby. Then a
second drug is taken to stimulate the uterus to contract and the baby is then expelled. Women who
choose this procedure will experience severe cramping, bleeding, and vomiting. The second is
suction aspiration paralyzing the cervical muscle and the abortionist inserts a plastic tube with a
knife edge into the uterus. The baby is busted into pieces then sucked out through the cut opening of
the uterine wall into a bottle. With very heavy bleeding dilation abortion is the third

Description Of A Homeless Man
In the outskirts of New York, dirt filled slush clings to the white cement on a December evening.
Tiny droplets of frozen water blob on the ground and melt, getting crushed by afternoon stragglers.
Buildings cluster together for warmth in the biting winter chill. The structures, many tall and slim
while some are squat and obtuse, line the streets of blazing horns and shouting pedestrians. The
sounds of people stomping their feet before they enter busses, offices, and cars echo off each
skyscraper and continue to bounce until it is too faint to be perceived. As rush hour begins to stall,
two men dart into the densely populated street not caring to stop for oncoming traffic. One man is
tall and thin with gangy limbs too long for his body. His eyes, dark grey flickering nonstop, are
calculative, possessive, and intelligent.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man is middle aged with creases already beginning to form on his skin and his cheeks carry
a faint blush from the cold. He adorns a thick hooded black coat with tan dress pants and black
dress shoes. He walks with a slouch, only a stressed man could master, taking long strides with
doubt in every step. In his right, calloused hand he carries a small briefcase with a lock on the
handle. The second man follows close behind, red faced and angry. He is smaller than the other
man, and walks carelessly, throwing melted snow and slapping the pavement with his worn,
crumbling sneakers. Dressed casually, he wears a bright, blinding, green sweatshirt and jeans,
nothing to shield him from the icy conditions. His forehead, scrunched in concentration, has a
small wrinkle between his eyebrows. His nose is decorated with an array of freckles, and his face
is clean with only a scar running through his left eyebrow and a small stubble on his chin.

Analysis Of Almereyda s Film Adaptation Of Hamlet
Almereyda s film adaptation of Hamlet shows the struggle Hamlet is having with the death of his
father, but also focuses on the internal pain he is experiencing, supporting the country of
Denmark. This portrayal of Hamlet can be seen through the interpretation of Hamlet s mental pain
and Physical appearance. Almereyda s Hamlet shows a new way of viewing Hamlet s character,
and a deeper understanding of the moral changes he is facing during Act 3 scene 1, by being more
relatable to a 21st century audience. Shakespeare writes few stage directions, which gives freedom
to the director to show what Hamlet is doing during the act 3 scene 1 soliloquy.
Throughout the scene, Hamlet is wearing black, because he is still in mourning of the loss of his
father, and wearing a stocking cap to be different from the rest of the Denmark organization.
Throughout history, people have used dark colors to show mourning. In Act 1 Scene 2 the queen
tells Hamlet to, cast thy nighted color off, (1.2. 68). This means the Hamlet is wearing black
coloring, and his mother acknowledged it. Another interesting characteristic that Almereyda made
prominent in Hamlet s outfit is Hamlet s stocking cap. The stocking cap represents many character
issues in Hamlet. One of those issues is his mourning. The rest of the Denmark Corporation is seen
in suits and dresses with nothing on their heads, but then we see Hamlet in a blazer and a t shirt,
with a stocking cap in the opening scene. This is evidence the

A more obvious qualifier is when the sentence already begins with words which make it

Questions Second, tag questions are typically used by women which means that after making a
statement, there follows a question relating to that statement, I enjoyed the concert, didn t you?
or It is a beautiful day, isn t it? As less assertive than declaratory statements, tag questions assume
that women must ask permission for their feelings, likes, or dislikes. Use of qualifiers and tag
questions like ( I guess this is correct, don t you?) may suggest that women are uncertain,
tentative, or equivocal in what they are saying. They are also used as a defense against potential
criticism. ( Lindsey, 1994,p72) Usage of Intensifiers Another form of the female register is the
use of intensifiers which Robin Lakoff (1975) refers to as empty adjectives or adverbs. Some of
these could be contained in a word list which is distinctively female. This is a divine party, Such a

Marketing Analysis of Sonic PDA 1000
Abstract
The purpose of this group project is to provide the members of LU BUSI 520 Delta Group with a
patterned professional forecasting model for research and analysis of a prospective new product.
The new product will be the Sonic 1000 PDA; a fictitious product formulated especially for this
mock up analysis (Kotler, Keller, 2009). Through experiential collaboration, the members of Delta
Group should gain needed insight into the potential quandaries that are mutually shared by many of
today s marketing managers. It is conceived that each member of Delta Group will personally align

We will be targeting several different markets that we feel have potential either due to great need
for the product or available disposable income and status.
Mission Statement Sonic believes that the Sonic 1000 PDA is versatile and user friendly and is
the best way to keep you in touch with your life.
Competitive Strategy Sonic should endeavor to use Porter s generic competitive strategy of
differentiation as its overall strategy. Versatility and ease of use are what Sonic will provide to
the consumer. Our secondary strategy should be focus, we will key in on a few different market
segments which we feel are high profile markets and deserving of attention. Sonic s pricing
could be our greatest asset. According to Levitt, in his article, Marketing Myopia, Henry Ford
had a strategy which included mass production, but that first and foremost one must never place
the profit lure from this production above thinking about your customer. Henry Ford worked
from the idea that he could produce his invention, the car for $500, and therefore because it was
priced reasonably could expect to sell millions of cars. His focus was not on mass production, but
what the consumer could afford to pay for his product, and then he worked to produce it for that
amount. (Levitt, 2004, p. 144). This probably would be a wise decision for Sonic, especially
during this unstable economy we are facing.
Target Markets Sonic s primary target market will be business

The Uses Of Coco Chanel And The 2.55 Handbags
In 1929 Gabrielle Chanel had designed a versatile and practical purse with straps which would
become her famous 2.55 bag. She was tired of carrying her handbag in her arms, creating the
iconic quilted purse that is coveted today (Hess, 2015, p.152). The 2.55 handbag bears the
particular name simply because it was originally issued in February 1955.
The 2.55 quilted bags were made from jersey fabrics or soft leather in the familiar shades of
brown, black, navy and beige. It was inspired by the jackets worn by jockeys. It was stitched over
padding to create a soft quilted effect and was given the trademark shoulder straps of leather plaited
with gilt chain, the same chain used to weight the suit linings. The shoulder strap liberated the hands
and they were soft, without stiff corners or hard edges. Gabrielle Chanel had used red linings so that

His version is the exactly the one designed by Coco Chanel back in 1955. The Reissue was made in
commemoration to the 50th anniversary of the original 2.55 and the name Reissue 2.55 should

the handbags resembling the original 2.55. As for those with CC interlocking, they are called
Classic Flaps (Short History of The Famous Chanel 2.55 Bag, 2007).
Many legends circulate on the subject of the Chanel 2.55, sifting through them and discerning
which is which can be both fun and disconcerting: they say that Gabrielle Chanel wanted to ease
the high society s ladies life by freeing their hands with shoulder hanged bags. It is said that
although common for the working class, the luxury circles dames had to carry their bags in their
hands and not practically hanging from their shoulders. Carrying a bag can be a difficult task when

Death Penalty In Dead Man Walking
The end of the film, Dead Man Walking, is definitely quite surprising. Throughout the film, the
audience is given an insight into the lives of death row convict Matthew Poncelot and a nun
guiding him to his death. The nun, Sister Helen Prejean, is torn throughout the film; she wants to
help Matt own up to his monstrous acts as well as help the grieving families of Matt s victim s
move on.
What is perhaps the most shocking part of the film is the rollercoaster of flashbacks, leading the
audience to be unsure of whether Matt was actually guilty of the crimes that he was on death
row for. It is certainly difficult whether the death penalty is seen as morally wrong or right to
decide if a person should be put to death or not before being sure of the guilt of that person. Once
it is revealed that Matt was guilty of the crimes the rape and murder of a young couple it is difficult

Another shocking element was how the execution was carried out. In a sterile, unfriendly,

Theoretical Ethnographic And Conceptual Background
Theoretical Ethnographic and Conceptual Background
Theoretical Background
Feminism
Play is a source of significant theoretical insight in anthropology and other disciplines (Huizinga
1970; Turner 1982). Feminist research is explicitly directed towards comprehending evolving
social factors affecting women. (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702) and also provides a framework for
understanding the contribution of women in sports to development (Birrell 2005:61). The
research in this proposal is rooted in this idea, and holds that women s participation in sports is a
feminist issue deserving of research and theory development (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702). Many
scholars in the study of sociology of sports use feminist theory to understand power and gender
relations (Birrell 2005:61; Coakley 2009:39). According to Smith [2010:98], issues of gender
are core to social life and this fact makes the concerns of masculinity and femininity essential.
Critical feminist theorists have stressed the importance of critiquing and changing the culture
and Pfister and Kristin 2013:208) the body and physicality of sports so that they represent the
perspectives and experiences of women as well as men (Maguire 2002:207; Coakley 2001:39).
The aim of feminist theory is to expose gender inequalities (Jarvis and Watts 2012:67) and
imbalance in terms of funding, programs, facilities, media coverage of women s sports (Messner
1988:207) and pay inequalities [Women s Sports Foundation 2011]. In a related

A Lesson Before Dying By Ernest Gaines
A hero is not only someone with superpowers but can be anyone. It can be anyone like you or

Dying, takes place in Louisiana and is about an innocent Black man convicted and sent to the

an allusion to Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson. Beside these two, Mamie Till also stepped up and
was audacious. They were all fearless and gave hope to many other people because of what they

Claudio Monteverdi Research Paper
Claudio Monteverdi, (baptized May 15, 1567, Cremona, Duchy of Milan [Italy] died Nov. 29,
1643, Venice), Italian composer in the late Renaissance, the most important developer of the then
new genre, the opera. He also did much to bring a modern secular spirit into church music.
Early career
Monteverdi, the son of a barber surgeon and chemist, studied with the director of music at Cremona
cathedral, Marcantonio Ingegneri, a well known musician who wrote church music and madrigals
of some distinction in an up to date though not revolutionary style of the 1570s. Monteverdi was
obviously a precocious pupil, since he published several books of religious and secular music in his
teens, all of them containing competent pieces in a manner not far from that of his master. The ...

accompanied his employer on an expedition to Hungary and four years later to Flanders. In about
1599 he married a singer, Claudia Cattaneo, by whom he had three children, one of whom died in
infancy. When the post of maestro di cappella, or director of music, to the duke became vacant
on the death of Wert in 1596, Monteverdi was embittered at being passed over, but in 1602 he
achieved the position, at the age of 35. He published two more books of madrigals in 1603 and
1605, both of which contain masterpieces. The avant garde manner was now better assimilated into
his idiom. While his aim was still to follow the meaning of the verse in great detail, he solved the
purely musical problems of thematic development and proportion. Although the dissonances
became more severe and the melody sometimes still more angular, the total effect was more varied
in emotion and less neurotic. If Guarini s eroticism stimulated a sensual musical style, Monteverdi
often gave his mature madrigals a lightness and humour, seeing the essence of a poem rather than its

Wasserstrom s Arguments Relating to the Unimportance of...
In this paper, I will discuss Wasserstrom s arguments relating to the unimportance of gender and
how differentiating people based on their gender promotes the harmful ideology of sex roles. I will
then present Schlafly s arguments which regard the differences between men and women as
justifiable due to the fact that these differences are not only natural, but also practical and
obligatory, and show that they are inferior to Wasserstrom s arguments. I will argue this by
elaborating on Wassertrom s argument of how there is no such thing as natural while providing
reasons for why this is so. Firstly, Wasserstrom argues that assigning social roles to individuals
based on their sex in inherently unjust. According to him, assigning sex roles... Show more content

This can be described as what Engels describes a domestic slave. Furthermore, Wasserstrom
makes sure to introduce rebuttals to those who might say that a society would not be oppressive
if taught possible to have sex roles without one being dominant. Wasserstrom replies to this
statement by explaining how the sex roles we are all familiar with assign women with the
responsibility of having to take care of children and to be the primary household maintainer.
Wasserstrom declares these types of burdens to be excessive and must be shared equally
between both men and women. Another rebuttal that Wasserstrom prepares is for the people
who might still insist that the existence of sex roles is necessary if we were to suppose that the
work load was equal for men and women. The problem with this, according to Wasserstrom, is
that any set of sex roles would suppress an individual s unique talents and impair their ability to
develop their characteristics, capacities, and potential life plans. An example of how sex roles
oppress women in this way is how they have to take of children, as previously discussed, simply
because people believe that they can do it better. This responsibility keeps women away from their
interests and abilities. Men can easily be taught to take care of children as well. Just because one is

The Physics Of Chemical Kinetics
Investigations into the mechanics of chemical kinetics can reveal invaluable information relating to
the rates of reaction. There are numerable applications of reaction rates, knowledge in this area is
pivotal for industrial, commercial and research sectors. Thus, allowing them the ability to
manipulate a variety of factors of chemical reactions with the use of reaction rates. In the scope of
the kinetics of clock reactions, there is a range of information that can be obtained about reaction
rates (Shakhashiri, 1992).
A clock reaction is characterised by an abrupt colour change following an established time lag
(Lente et al, 2007). The induction period in a clock reaction is a result of low concentrations of the
clock chemical (i.e. the chemical that enables the final reaction). The induction period ends after
the total consumption of a limiting reagent, which initiates a short increase in the rate of product
formation, resulting in a visible colour change (Schmitz, 2010)(Lente et al, 2007). The reaction rate
of clock reactions is subject to factors including temperature, concentration, catalysis and inhibition.
These factors can be manipulated, thus changing the length of the induction period in a clock like
manner (Shakhashiri, 1992).
Changes in the rate of reaction can be described in terms of chemical equilibrium. Chemical
equilibrium is a state in which the forward and reverse reactions take place at the same rate
(Wilbraham et al, 2002). The relative

The minds of the men turn darker as the novel goes along, further representing the major theme of
crazy throughout Heller s writing. There is an inevitable truth that war and its wages forces man to
succumb to psychotic fears and actions.
Likely as a result of war, Yossarian is presented with an irrational fear that anyone and everyone
is out to kill him. Even from the beginning of the novel, it is stated multiple times that Yossarian
presumes that people are intentionally trying to harm or kill him. From an outside point of view,
it may seem quite ridiculous, but given the circumstances and stress he is put under, it is obvious
why he feels this way. An example of a stressful situation in which Yossarian reacts with his fear is
the line, The crawlway was Yossarian s lifeline to outside from a plane about to fall, but Yossarian
swore at it with seething antagonism, reviled it as an obstacle put there by providence as part of the
plot that would destroy him. (48). Throughout the book, other characters make it known that
Yossarian has a complex. Clevinger gives his description of the psychotic pilot: Gasping furiously

A Long, Enduring History
The planet that we reside on has a long, enduring history. Today, remnants can still be found that
tell the history of the land, and of its inhabitants; many of these remnants, however, have been
destroyed over time. The Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan has a rich and complicated history that
continues up to the present day. The residents of Bamiyan live neighboring a wall of cliffs,
speckled with caves. Bordering the city on each side, two abandoned niches are carved into the
cliff face, each towering over 100 meters. These great niches once held two Buddha statues that
looked out over the Bamiyan Valley, but now stand empty. Once a witness to the history of the area,
these Buddhas were destroyed in 2001 when the Taliban, a terrorist group, destroyed them due to
their religious imagery. Since their destruction, the international community has risen up in protest,
and endless discussions on its reconstruction have been hashed out as further studies are done on
the remains. The interaction with religious ideology complicates and stigmatizes the situation,

Cancer Is The Disease Caused By A Wild Detachment Of...
Breast Cancer
Cancer is the disease caused by a wild detachment of unusual cells in a part of the body. Cancer is
the name given to a collection of related diseases. In all types of cancer, some of the body s cells
begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues.
Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells.
Normally, human cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells
grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place. When cancer develops,
however, this orderly process breaks down. As cells become more and more abnormal, old or
damaged cells survive when they should die, and new cells form when they are not needed. These
extra cells can divide without stopping and may form growths called tumors.
How Cancer Arises; Cancer is a genetic disease that is, it is caused by changes to genes that
control the way our cells function, especially how they grow and divide.
Genetic changes that causes cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a
person s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA
caused by certain environmental exposures. Cancer causing environmental exposures include
substances, such as the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and radiation, such as ultraviolet rays from the
sun

Meno s Interpretation Of Virtue
Yes, I do agree with Meno s first instinct, as even I would not be able to recount the interpretation
of virtue in its entirety. Meno interprets virtue as to find joy in beautiful things and have power.
(Meno) Even more so, Meno believes that virtue varies in relation to men, women and children.
However, in reality, having virtuesimply means to maintain and uphold good moral values and
characteristics. For example, patience is said to be a virtue. Other virtues can be seen as bravery,
charity, commitment, compassion, dignity, grace and honesty. I agree with Socrates when he states
that virtue is the same for everyone. With that said, on the other hand, not every individual
possesses all of the numerous virtues. This is because not every

Media Censorship around the World
Media censorship is not an unusual phenomenon around the world, as it has been disapproved by
right groups since ancient times. It had originated in ancient times when rulers and religious leaders
imposed limitation on the press, with an aim to stop them from spreading information which might
turn against them, and the activities conducted by them. Regardless of the differences in
geographical location, religion, culture and the tradition, the motive for censorshiphas remained the
same. The most widely used methods to control media are licensing and enacting laws which
effectively restrict the freedom of press. Countries like Syria, Zimbabwe and Vietnam have laws
and regulations that effectively limit the freedom of press and impose... Show more content on

(6) Once he has decided to cease a printing or publishing licence due to his subjective view, it is
deemed to be unquestionable and completely free from any action of the court. (7) For example,
in Persatuan Aliran Kesedaran Negara v. Minister of Home Affairs (8), Aliran sued the Minister
for refusing to give permission to produce its own Malay version publication. Ajaib Singh SCJ
indicated that the power of minister under s. 12(2) of the PPPA could not be challenged by the
courts. Another example is the case of Liew Ah Kim v. Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri(9).
Rocket, which is the Democratic Action Party s newspaper, is given annual licence with a condition
that the newspaper can only be viewed by insiders and not for the public. The minister was
criticized on imposing such condition, but the court held that the minister s decision to impose
such condition based on his subjective consideration was ultimate and conclusive, therefore, the
court could not interfere into the subject matter. However, the absolute power of the minister to
reject on giving licence is being provoked in the case between Home Affairs Ministry and
Malaysiakini. While the Ministry refused to issue licence to Malaysiakini, the High Court held that
the Ministry has made inappropriate and unreasonable decision, and the right to get a permit is a
fundamental liberty . As a result, Malaysiakini is allowed to produce daily press.(10). It

Analysis Of Into The Wild By Christopher Krakauer
A biography is a work written about another person s life. A standard biography only discusses the
life of a single person. Krakauer s biography, Into the Wild, retains the standard convention of
describing the life story of the main person, but also include accounts of other people including
himself and slight difference on how he wrote the biography to justify Chris s choices.
Krakauer focuses his book on Christopher McCandless just like any other biography. Krakauer
tells the story of how Chris made his way and became ready for his time in Alaska to carry out his
dream. Unlike most biographies, rather than starting at the beginning of Chris s life, Krakauer
chose to start with the end. Krakauer begins with the last known events of what happened to Chris
s life. By starting with Chris s death, Krakauer adds an air of mystery that intrigues the reader. In
interesting the reader, Krakauer gets the reader to read the rest of the book to find out more of what
happened. This gives Krakauer the opportunity to defend Chris. Also, in a conventional biography,
the author tries to remain unbiased and tells what happened without trying to convince the reader
about something. In Into the Wild, Krakauer himself admits that is very biased and sympathizes
with Chris in the author s note. This means that Krakauer actively tries to convince the reader of
something about Chris and make them understand.
Krakauer diverges from standard conventions with the story Everett Ruess.

The Value Chain Of Tesco
INTRODUCTION
Large business organisations constitute not only a single strategic business unit, but a culmination
of several business units. The business units which may number anywhere from 4 to as many as
20 or more cannot be considered as a single, separate and disparate entity. Rather the business units
are attached to each other like a string completing a full circle, where each complements the
predecessor and the successor. The breakdown of any one entity in the chain can have a telling
effect on the whole chain itself. Now depending on the type of sector chosen the units in the
business chain vary in number and complexity. For example unlike a software company the units
/ operational units in company which deals with products/goods are much larger in number. As
explained in the previous lines the units in operation are linked and performance of one affects the
performance of the other units linked to that unit. Valuechain management comes in this picture. ...

The Effects Of Post Olympic Games On The Olympics
Bubble economy is the third reason of the valley effect of post Olympic Games. Before the
Olympics, many tourists and company go into the Olympic host country to consume. They will
largely promote this country s development of the construction industry, tourism, services, retail
and other industries. Especially in tourism, the Olympic Gameswill bring numerous tourists for host
city, and these tourists will consume in the city, and these tourists need pay for food,
accommodation, transport, purchase goods and souvenirs and, some companies and people also
will consider purchasing real estate in the Olympic Village. However, after the end of the Olympics,
these tourists will leave the Olympic host country gradually, causing tourists and consumers reduce
in the Olympic host city and the economic markets shrink.
Because of the above reasons when the Olympics begin, the host country have a considerable
economic development, the construction industry, tourism, services, retail and other industries go
into a few peak. But after the Olympics, consumers leave the city, which lead to a rapid decline of
the economy development. Thus the lacking of consumer lead to a number of economic and social
problems, such as unemployment, poor sales of goods, tourism slump, the real estate bubble.
Especially in tourism, the influence of Olympic economy bubble is the most serious for tourism. A
report from The European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) shows some information. After the

Family Abuse And Child Abuse
We have all heard the saying Home sweet home or Home is where the heart is. Unfortunately for
numerous people, especially women and children, home is anything but a safe haven. In our
society spouse abuse, elderly abuse and child abuse is a major family related social issue. Family
abuse comes in many forms, physical violence, sexual violence and psychological and emotional
abuse. Nonetheless, family violence is not unusual, perhaps this reason is because nuclear families
devote to spend so much time together which leads to emotional bonds integrated with emotional
stressors that may trigger outbursts and violence if the person doesn t know how to deal with stress
in other healthier ways.
Our family influences our prospective as individuals. So when faced with abuse within the family
it can influence our outlook of society. Especially for children who are still developing, when a
child is abused in any way from a family member (mother, father, sibling). The effects of the abuse
last throughout their lifetime and can influence every aspect of their life. The lifelong
consequences can transpire into physical, mental, and psychological problems, this also applies to
spousal abuse. Studies have shown that around five youths die each day due to child abuse and three
or more adult females are murdered by their husbands/boyfriends per a day. 68% of children are
abused by a relative and in addition 2.9 million incidents of child abuse are reported each year, here

The Principles Of Law And Ethics In Health
Law and Ethics in Health Introduction Ethics and as sometimes called morals is the concept of
what is right or wrong or what one is supposed to do or not do. Health practitioners are guided by
ethical principles to help them make informed decisions. There are various Ethical theories that can
be applied in different situations. Consequentialism theory helps to know the consequence of any
action taken by a health practitioner. Deontology deals with the duties and practices of the doctors
or nurses. Health workers that tend to adhere so much on this theory may have conflicts with other
individuals at work. Virtue theory deals with the morals of an individual. Principlism theory
requires that the health practitioners adhere to the communal, religious and person believes of the

All healthcare service providers are required to balance all these principles. Ethical decisions are
not so simple to make especially where the decision will have an effect on the practitioner. Legal
framework allows team decision making to make proper decisions. Law is a set of rules that are
derived from ethical or religious backgrounds and they are intended to control the inter relations in
a society with the aim of maintaining order. Like other institutions individuals in the healthcare
sector are protected by law to ensure none of them is harmed. The patients have their rights as
stipulated by the law and it is the responsibility if the healthcare providers to uphold their rights. On
the other hand, health practitioners are also protected by the law which guides them on the

Our second attempt today was successful and better today than the first attempt because we were
able to prove the law of conservation of mass on the second try. During the second attempt, we
were already aware of the mistakes we executed. Therefore, this helped us to avoid repeating the
same mistakes and draft another procedure while taking in consideration the first attempt of
experiment we had performed previously. Our procedure were also more structured and organized

due to the chemical reaction brought by combining baking soda and vinegar. After watching the

This induced our measurements and data to be altered and therefore did not have an accurate

twist tie to secure the gas produced, which is carbon dioxide, from escaping from the plastic bag.
This is referred to as an open system since the plastic bag was left open and caused the carbon
dioxide to escape. Our failure was induced by ignorance and failure to apply and incorporate the
law of conservation of mass as we were performing our first lab. On our second attempt, we
incorporated the closed system . Similar to our first attempt, we individually measured the mass
of each material while ensuring that the weighing scale was precisely put on zero each time it
was measured. Then, we combined the Vinegar and baking soda in a plastic bag while tightly

Ashley, Alex and I were calm, but anxious. We all agreed to go out when it got darker. We were
all dressed up as zombies, the ones that ate guts and such. Lets go! Can we please start and get
some candy now!! Yells Andrew. We all gear up for the night. We say good byes to our parents

Identifying Barriers Of Diversity For Law Enforcement...
Henry Dimitroff
November 3, 2016
Course Project
Introduction:
In the article Identifying Barriers to Diversity in Law Enforcement Agencies by Carl F. Matthies,
Kirsten M. Keller, and Nelson Lim the issue of diversity in the law enforcement workforce is
brought to task. They show through the use of research that law enforcement agencies can do their
jobs better if they resemble the population they are supposed to be protecting. Police community
relations are negatively affected by the disparity of racial composition between agencies and
communities combined with heavy handed tactics. The intentions of this article is to offer a
thorough analysis of a method intended to reduce this disparity. This method is known as barrier
analysis which means it analysis issues or problems such as this (diversity in law enforcement) for
specific obstacles. The intent is to use this knowledge to directly address these obstacles so as to
increase diversity in the ranks of law enforcement.
The article details what it calls barriers in the career lifecycle that result in the impediment of
either hiring or the promotion of a diverse workforce. These barriers can occur at recruitment,
hiring, and promotion stages in the career lifecycle. (Matthies 1) Recruitment barriers include the
low numbers of diverse applicants due to the lack of outreach programs designed to bring
awareness of the employment availability to minorities and women. Hiring barriers include failure
to meet standards

Buffett, 2005 (Case 1) Set in the autumn of 2005, the case recounts the remarkable performance
record of Value Trust, a mutual fundmanaged by William H. (Bill) Miller III at Legg Mason, Inc.
The case describes the investment style of Miller, whose record with Value Trust had beaten the S

Malkiel finds some evidence of hot hands and cold hands, but concludes that the evidence
provides no reason to abandon the theory of capital market efficiency. Another excellent book by
Malkiel, A Random Walk down Wall Street (New York: W.W. Norton Co., 2003), surveys the
evidence for an efficient market in prose accessible to the novice.
Students who are new to the subject of finance may also find it useful to refer to one or more
dictionaries of financial terms, such as Barron s Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms,6th

Series, Inc., 2002), or The New Palgrave Dictionary of Money and Finance, ed. Newman, Milgate,
and Eatwell (New York: Stockton Press, 1992).
Hypothetical Teaching Plan
Assuming the case is taught early in an introductory finance course, the teacher s classroom
strategy can begin with the coin flipping exercise suggested by Malkiel. All students are asked to
stand up and to prepare to flip a coin. At the first and subsequent rounds, those who get tails are
asked to sit down. Usually cheers and humor accompany the final rounds.

the book. Montag begins as a mindless follower and evolves into a fearless leader. As he grows

Everything that had happened that day boiled up inside him and he began to contemplate his
whole life. I m numb he thought. When did the numbness really began in my face? In my body?
The night I kicked the pill bottle in the dark, like kicking a buried mine, (Bradbury 73). In this
scene Montag realizes that he has no emotions. He had been avoiding feeling anything for so
long that he forgot what it felt like to feel. While Montag pushed himself into his work, as a
fireman, Millie got absorbed into a virtual world. Millie became obsessed with her family in the
walls because by focusing on their problems she could forget about her own. In our world today
new technology comes out everyday. With all this technology at our hands kids are spending
more time on their phones or playing video games then talking to friends or family. We now
have virtual reality goggles in which you can create your perfect life. This googles are just as
bad as the parlor walls, that Millie watches. We may not be burning books as the fireman did in
Fahrenheit 451 but we have forgotten about them which is just as bad. But we can change just if
we take time to look around and notice how bad our world has gotten because it s never too late.
Just as every great story and society must have a beginning everything must come to an end at
sometime. Will we end in a fiery death from global warming or take control of our lives as Montag
did and hang around as long

Analysis Of Man On The Moon Man On the Moon When man first walked on the moon it was a very big accomplishment for mankind especially the U.S.A., many people wrote articles or simply talked about and shared their opinions on this huge accomplishment. In the text that appeared on Times magazine titled, Man Takes First Steps on the Moon , one can see how much of an accomplishment it was for the U.S and many other people to have been able to walk on the moon. In the text ethos and logos are used a few times to be able to make a more possibly effective text on people reading the article and be able to show how much of a huge deal this was for mankind. The following sentence is the first sentence in the paragraph which says a lot about what the text is going to go towards, Neil Armstrong became the first man to take a walk on the moon s surface early today. , seeing that the first sentence is about how a man walked on the moon it shows most likely the rest of the text will be based around or on this man s actions. • 6. Eric Foner A Short History Of Reconstruction Analysis Eric Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction is a shortened version of his Reconstruction: America s Unfinished Revolution, 1863 1877; however, in the shorter version certain broad themes unified the crucial narrative. His first theme is the midst of the black experience, second theme is to trace the ways Southern society as a whole was remodeled, third theme is the evolution of racial attitudes and patterns of race relations, and the fourth theme is the emergence during the Civil War and Reconstruction. This narration of Reconstruction begins not in 1865, but with the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was done to stress the importance of the Proclamation in unifying two major themes, grass roots black activity and the newly empowered national state and to indicate that Reconstruction was the beginning of a broadened historical process: the adjustment of American society to the end of slavery. Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction verifies the authors prevailing leadership in historical revisionism. His extensive knowledge alters the scrutiny of the historical standpoint, stimulating students and intellectuals to reconsider the assumptions of prominent reconstruction works from foregoing eras such as those that influenced our understanding of the Reconstruction era. Furthermore, Foner advises intellectuals to continue to uncover neglected experiencesof the one of the most phenomenal eras in American history. Foner s text provides a critical scheme for a more ... • 7. The Secretary Chant In this poem Marge Piercy s speaker evokes a concrete vision of a woman who has lost her personal identity to her job. Her bold and descriptive use of metaphors allow the reader to envision a woman who is living her life vicariously through her career. Ms. Piercy successfully uses paradox, personification, and the pun to bring the character alive. With the use of metaphors, both implied and explicit, the reader can deeply empathize with the central character of this poem. From the first line of the poem the tone is set for the reader. It is not so vague as to use a simple simile, but a strong manifestation of the idea of the speaker as an actual personification of a material object. She is clearly telling her boss where he would find the used paper and closed files but the pun intended is that whatever she tells her boss is ignored anyway. By the time the reader gets to the end of the poem the secretary is fully developed as an inanimate machine, Swollen, heavy (17). She has given up trying to be human and has resigned herself to the fact that she has been taken over completely by the machines that surround her. Metaphorically speaking, with the use of metonymy, the secretary, now as a machine herself is about to be delivered / of a baby Xerox machine (18 20), thus perpetuating a species of human machines. Australian Healthcare System The following paper is based on the differences between two healthcare systems in two different countries, these systems are the Australian healthcare system which is Medicare, and England s National health system which is known as the NHS. Starting with the organizational structure of the NHS, it is basically an umbrella organization that comprises of four regional branches, in particular, NHS (England), NHS Scotland, Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland and NHS Wales. The financing for all these institutions comes from a universal source, particularly the tax payer money of residents of UK, although they operate to an extent as self governing institutions. The treasury allocates money to the department of Health, which in turn allocates money to NHS England (Understanding the new NHS). • 13. The Rise Of Caodaism In Vietnam In the spiritual life of Vietnamese, religions such as Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and Islam are the mainstream. Each religion has similarities with the ethnic believes in Vietnam. Nevertheless, one religion emerged and rose in an unimaginable rate during the twentieth century Caodaism. It soon became Vietnams third largest religionafter Buddhism and Roman Catholicism. The rapid rise of Caodaism is strongly related to its susceptible fundamental doctrines, combination of various social groups, and strong historical context. From the French colonization and empiricism of Japan, to the establishment of Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Caodaism played an important political role thoroughly, and these events also deeply influenced the fate fo Caodaism. Brief Introduction of Caodaism: Caodaoism was born in the province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam in 1026, after its founder NgГґ VДѓn ChiГЄu, a district head of the French administration in Cochinchina, received a vision of the Divine Eye. Divine Eye was perceived as the focus for worship on all Cao Dai alters in the culture of Caodaism. Republicans stated that it was Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery. (Republican Platform of 1856) By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of Utah. (Davis) In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. This logo clearly appropriates Native American traditions and motifs and misrepresents them from no other reason than to advertise a product. Put into scale, Chief Oshkosh the Brave hardly seems relevant to the course of history. The vast, winding web of competing stories that makes up the history discipline seems not the have room for figures who weren t necessarily earth shakers, but ultimately any figure who makes the earth move in some way contains value in understanding. Chief Oshkosh s life, while worthy of being understood on its own, tells a much larger story of how white Americans treat Native American figures. Just within the Oshkosh community, three different interest groups rework his afterlife with three different tropes for three different purposes. The general public s apathetic ignorance contributes to the Dying Indian trope, which reinforces their apathy towards the contemporary Native American plight. The academic institutions glorification of Chief Oshkosh depicts him as a patriot and a Civilized Indian, undermining modern Native Americans who suffer from double consciousness or blend their heritage with their modern world. Certain business interests in the city reduce Chief Oshkosh to a Noble Savage to sell beer that at one point contained less that one half of 1% alcohol content by volume, which in the short term might sell more beer but ultimately socializes white Americans to perceive Native Americans as closer to nature and less human. In this one historical figure, three very different fictional characters have been perpetuated. Analysis Of Almereyda s Film Adaptation Of Hamlet Almereyda s film adaptation of Hamlet shows the struggle Hamlet is having with the death of his father, but also focuses on the internal pain he is experiencing, supporting the country of Denmark. This portrayal of Hamlet can be seen through the interpretation of Hamlet s mental pain and Physical appearance. Almereyda s Hamlet shows a new way of viewing Hamlet s character, and a deeper understanding of the moral changes he is facing during Act 3 scene 1, by being more relatable to a 21st century audience. Shakespeare writes few stage directions, which gives freedom to the director to show what Hamlet is doing during the act 3 scene 1 soliloquy. Throughout the scene, Hamlet is wearing black, because he is still in mourning of the loss of his father, and wearing a stocking cap to be different from the rest of the Denmark organization. Throughout history, people have used dark colors to show mourning. In Act 1 Scene 2 the queen tells Hamlet to, cast thy nighted color off, (1.2. 68). This means the Hamlet is wearing black coloring, and his mother acknowledged it. Another interesting characteristic that Almereyda made prominent in Hamlet s outfit is Hamlet s stocking cap. The stocking cap represents many character issues in Hamlet. One of those issues is his mourning. • 31. Death Penalty In Dead Man Walking The end of the film, Dead Man Walking, is definitely quite surprising. Throughout the film, the audience is given an insight into the lives of death row convict Matthew Poncelot and a nun guiding him to his death. The nun, Sister Helen Prejean, is torn throughout the film; she wants to help Matt own up to his monstrous acts as well as help the grieving families of Matt s victim s move on. What is perhaps the most shocking part of the film is the rollercoaster of flashbacks, leading the audience to be unsure of whether Matt was actually guilty of the crimes that he was on death row for. It is certainly difficult whether the death penalty is seen as morally wrong or right to decide if a person should be put to death or not before being sure of the guilt of that person. Once it is revealed that Matt was guilty of the crimes the rape and murder of a young couple it is difficult to feel sorry for him, though the film effectively continued to humanize him. ... Another shocking element was how the execution was carried out. In a sterile, unfriendly, impersonal environment, it isn t hard to imagine the fear and pain that is felt by Matt. With people watching and encouraging the death, it seems very cold and almost sadistic. Matt s crimes were absolutely atrocious, but it is not humane to kill someone in such and ... • 32. Theoretical Ethnographic And Conceptual Background Theoretical Ethnographic and Conceptual Background Theoretical Background Feminism Play is a source of significant theoretical insight in anthropology and other disciplines (Huizinga 1970; Turner 1982). Feminist research is explicitly directed towards comprehending evolving social factors affecting women. (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702) and also provides a framework for understanding the contribution of women in sports to development (Birrell 2005:61). The research in this proposal is rooted in this idea, and holds that women s participation in sports is a feminist issue deserving of research and theory development (Harrison and Fahy 2005:702). Many scholars in the study of sociology of sports use feminist theory to understand power and gender relations (Birrell 2005:61; Coakley 2009:39). According to Smith [2010:98], issues of gender are core to social life and this fact makes the concerns of masculinity and femininity essential. Critical feminist theorists have stressed the importance of critiquing and changing the culture and Pfister and Kristin 2013:208) the body and physicality of sports so that they represent the perspectives and experiences of women as well as men (Maguire 2002:207; Coakley 2001:39). The aim of feminist theory is to expose gender inequalities (Jarvis and Watts 2012:67) and imbalance in terms of funding, programs, facilities, media coverage of women s sports (Messner 1988:207) and pay inequalities [Women s Sports Foundation 2011]. In the story there are real people that Ernest Gaines alludes to. Ernest Gaines makes an allusion to Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson. Beside these two, Mamie Till also stepped up and was audacious. They were all fearless and gave hope to many other people because of what they were doing. These heroes took a stand against society and changed the world for everyone. • 34. Claudio Monteverdi Research Paper Claudio Monteverdi, (baptized May 15, 1567, Cremona, Duchy of Milan [Italy] died Nov. 29, 1643, Venice), Italian composer in the late Renaissance, the most important developer of the then new genre, the opera. He also did much to bring a modern secular spirit into church music. Early career Monteverdi, the son of a barber surgeon and chemist, studied with the director of music at Cremona cathedral, Marcantonio Ingegneri, a well known musician who wrote church music and madrigals of some distinction in an up to date though not revolutionary style of the 1570s. Monteverdi was obviously a precocious pupil, since he published several books of religious and secular music in his teens, all of them containing competent pieces in a manner not far from that of his master. In 1595 he accompanied his employer on an expedition to Hungary and four years later to Flanders. When the post of maestro di cappella, or director of music, to the duke became vacant on the death of Wert in 1596, Monteverdi was embittered at being passed over, but in 1602 he achieved the position, at the age of 35. He published two more books of madrigals in 1603 and 1605, both of which contain masterpieces. The avant garde manner was now better assimilated into his idiom. While his aim was still to follow the meaning of the verse in great detail, he solved the purely musical problems of thematic development and proportion. Although the dissonances became more severe and the melody sometimes still more angular, the total effect was more varied in emotion and less neurotic. If Guarini s eroticism stimulated a sensual musical style, Monteverdi often gave his mature madrigals a lightness and humour, seeing the essence of a poem rather than its ... • 35. Wasserstrom s Arguments Relating to the Unimportance of... In this paper, I will discuss Wasserstrom s arguments relating to the unimportance of gender and how differentiating people based on their gender promotes the harmful ideology of sex roles. I will then present Schlafly s arguments which regard the differences between men and women as justifiable due to the fact that these differences are not only natural, but also practical and obligatory, and show that they are inferior to Wasserstrom s arguments. I will argue this by elaborating on Wassertrom s argument of how there is no such thing as natural while providing reasons for why this is so. Firstly, Wasserstrom argues that assigning social roles to individuals based on their sex in inherently unjust. According to him, assigning sex roles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be described as what Engels describes a domestic slave. Furthermore, Wasserstrom makes sure to introduce rebuttals to those who might say that a society would not be oppressive if taught possible to have sex roles without one being dominant. Wasserstrom replies to this statement by explaining how the sex roles we are all familiar with assign women with the responsibility of having to take care of children and to be the primary household maintainer. Wasserstrom declares these types of burdens to be excessive and must be shared equally between both men and women. Another rebuttal that Wasserstrom prepares is for the people who might still insist that the existence of sex roles is necessary if we were to suppose that the work load was equal for men and women. The problem with this, according to Wasserstrom, is that any set of sex roles would suppress an individual s unique talents and impair their ability to develop their characteristics, capacities, and potential life plans. An example of how sex roles oppress women in this way is how they have to take of children, as previously discussed, simply because people believe that they can do it better. This responsibility keeps women away from their interests and abilities. Men can easily be taught to take care of children as well. Just because one is good at doing something does not ... There are numerable applications of reaction rates, knowledge in this area is pivotal for industrial, commercial and research sectors. Thus, allowing them the ability to manipulate a variety of factors of chemical reactions with the use of reaction rates. In the scope of the kinetics of clock reactions, there is a range of information that can be obtained about reaction rates (Shakhashiri, 1992). A clock reaction is characterised by an abrupt colour change following an established time lag (Lente et al, 2007). The induction period in a clock reaction is a result of low concentrations of the clock chemical (i.e. the chemical that enables the final reaction). The induction period ends after the total consumption of a limiting reagent, which initiates a short increase in the rate of product formation, resulting in a visible colour change (Schmitz, 2010)(Lente et al, 2007). The reaction rate of clock reactions is subject to factors including temperature, concentration, catalysis and inhibition. These factors can be manipulated, thus changing the length of the induction period in a clock like manner (Shakhashiri, 1992). Changes in the rate of reaction can be described in terms of chemical equilibrium. Chemical equilibrium is a state in which the forward and reverse reactions take place at the same rate (Wilbraham et al, 2002). The relative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today, remnants can still be found that tell the history of the land, and of its inhabitants; many of these remnants, however, have been destroyed over time. The Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan has a rich and complicated history that continues up to the present day. The residents of Bamiyan live neighboring a wall of cliffs, speckled with caves. Bordering the city on each side, two abandoned niches are carved into the cliff face, each towering over 100 meters. These great niches once held two Buddha statues that looked out over the Bamiyan Valley, but now stand empty. Once a witness to the history of the area, these Buddhas were destroyed in 2001 when the Taliban, a terrorist group, destroyed them due to their religious imagery. Since their destruction, the international community has risen up in protest, and endless discussions on its reconstruction have been hashed out as further studies are done on the remains. The interaction with religious ideology complicates and stigmatizes the situation, causing many discussions to go nowhere. The Bamiyan Buddhas hold significant cultural value, providing not only a religious sanctuary for many, but also by attracting travelers with their beauty. • 39. Cancer Is The Disease Caused By A Wild Detachment Of... Breast Cancer Cancer is the disease caused by a wild detachment of unusual cells in a part of the body. Cancer is the name given to a collection of related diseases. In all types of cancer, some of the body s cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues. Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place. When cancer develops, however, this orderly process breaks down. As cells become more and more abnormal, old or damaged cells survive when they should die, and new cells form when they are not needed. These extra cells can divide without stopping and may form growths called tumors. How Cancer Arises; Cancer is a genetic disease that is, it is caused by changes to genes that control the way our cells function, especially how they grow and divide. Genetic changes that causes cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a person s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA caused by certain environmental exposures. Krakauer s biography, Into the Wild, retains the standard convention of describing the life story of the main person, but also include accounts of other people including himself and slight difference on how he wrote the biography to justify Chris s choices. Krakauer focuses his book on Christopher McCandless just like any other biography. Krakauer tells the story of how Chris made his way and became ready for his time in Alaska to carry out his dream. Unlike most biographies, rather than starting at the beginning of Chris s life, Krakauer chose to start with the end. Krakauer begins with the last known events of what happened to Chris s life. By starting with Chris s death, Krakauer adds an air of mystery that intrigues the reader. In interesting the reader, Krakauer gets the reader to read the rest of the book to find out more of what happened. This gives Krakauer the opportunity to defend Chris. Also, in a conventional biography, the author tries to remain unbiased and tells what happened without trying to convince the reader about something. In Into the Wild, Krakauer himself admits that is very biased and sympathizes with Chris in the author s note. This means that Krakauer actively tries to convince the reader of something about Chris and make them understand. Krakauer diverges from standard conventions with the story Everett Ruess. ... Family abuse comes in many forms, physical violence, sexual violence and psychological and emotional abuse. Nonetheless, family violence is not unusual, perhaps this reason is because nuclear families devote to spend so much time together which leads to emotional bonds integrated with emotional stressors that may trigger outbursts and violence if the person doesn t know how to deal with stress in other healthier ways. Henry Dimitroff November 3, 2016 Course Project Introduction: In the article Identifying Barriers to Diversity in Law Enforcement Agencies by Carl F. Matthies, Kirsten M. They show through the use of research that law enforcement agencies can do their jobs better if they resemble the population they are supposed to be protecting. Police community relations are negatively affected by the disparity of racial composition between agencies and communities combined with heavy handed tactics. The intentions of this article is to offer a thorough analysis of a method intended to reduce this disparity. This method is known as barrier analysis which means it analysis issues or problems such as this (diversity in law enforcement) for specific obstacles. The intent is to use this knowledge to directly address these obstacles so as to increase diversity in the ranks of law enforcement.
