Something that happened in the Cronus myth is Uranus put the Titans that he didnВґt like in a pit .
The text says: ВЁWhen Gaea gave birth to other children, such as Cyclops, who looked monstrous,
Uranus was not proud of them and put them in a pit under the earth.ВЁAnother thing that happened
is Cronus killed his father Uranus. The text says: ВЁCronus did overthrow his father, but he did not
save his monstrous brothers.ВЁAnother thing that happened is Cronus was afraid that Zeuswould

6. Pros And Cons Of Inclusion In Public Education
In the webcasts, titled Inclusion: What does it mean and who is it for? and How do we make it
meaningful? Cynthia Pitonyak who works with VCU ACE and has been a special educator for
over twenty years explains inclusion beyond the typical way that it is prevalently used in the
realm of public special education programs today. She starts out in video one where she reviews
the meaning of Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and how special educators are
there to design an individual program to meet the needs of the disabled student in the Least
Restricted Environment in order to help the individual progress and grow. She states that
inclusion is not the law, and there is no mention of it in federal laws such as IDEA, No Child
Left Behind, or in the, Every Student Succeeds Act. However, she points out that because of
FAPE, LRE, and the IEP which are all required by federal law, inclusion, which is vitally
important, happens. Ms. Pitonyak goes on to point out that inclusion is usually broadly described
as educating special needs students as much as possible in an environment with regular education
students; however, it is way more encompassing than that. She talks about how it is extremely
important that disabled students need to learn functional skills so that they can be able to fit into
society and connect as best as they can to take care of themselves and contribute to society in a
meaningful way. This is what makes inclusion so important in the lives of disabled

8. What Is No Impact Man Essay
No Impact Man Essay No Impact Man was about a man who took his family on a year long
journey of reducing their environmental impact to nearly nothing. To do this he did five major
things, he started eating locally, stopped producing carbon emissions, stopped polluting the air
and water, limited his throw away waste, and stopped excessively consuming goods. No Impact
Man started eating locally. He did this to stop contributing to over exploitation of food
resources. He ate food that only grew close to him, and he went to many of the places where his
food was grown and looked at how they were farming. He also had a compost bin in his kitchen for
food waste. I think we could all buy some of our food locally, going to the places it is grown may
not be something everyone is interested in doing, but we can all support our local farmers
market. I also don t think it is feasible for everyone to have a compost bin, but we can be
conscientious about our food waste, and try and reduce it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

9. Theme Of Social Class In Pride And Prejudice
Most living creatures abide by a social structure of some sort. Between groups of animals there is
the dominance of the Alpha, and the submission of the Omega. Among humans, there is a similar
setup, but rather than size and strength, other factors often come into play. Wealth and status with
others make for a bigger social ladder among human beings, and this can cause many weaknesses
in the way people treat one another, and think. There are some who embrace these problems, and
some who wish to change it. Sometimes, it is something as simple as a piece of writing that
addresses these issues. In her novel Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen uses her characters to break
common social classstructure, and reveal that it is actions that define a person, and not circumstance.
In Pride and Prejudice, many of the characters reveal a depth that reaches beyond what is
perceived by even other characters, already revealing the kinks in social class. The main male
protagonist, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of the most controversial characters, and from the very
beginning has two sides to him that show a person underneath the circumstantial shell. In the article
Themes and Construction: Pride and Prejudice it is noted that What separates Elizabeth and Darcy
from the silly minor characters [...] is their ability and willingness to learn and grow, to overcome
their initial shortcomings (Themes). It is undeniable that Darcy began with amount considerable

11. What Does New Zealanders Spend Their Time At Sport And...
Complicating the Relationship Between
Sport, Culture and Identity
Sport is considered a heritage of British colonization in New Zealand. Although New Zealand is a
country with a small population; it has had a lot of success in sport. New Zealanders have acquired
numerous awards in various international competitions. An increasing number of people believe
that sport is integral to recognize the culture and national identity of New Zealand. The All Blacks
(rugby) and the Silver Ferns (netball) have become New Zealanders icons after they have been
successful in international competition. I will discuss the complicated relationship between sport,
and national identity. I will then refer sport to culture. Thirdly, I will describe how New Zealanders
spend their time at sport and leisure. And the last I will reveal the negative of sport.
The first point I would like to reflect on is that of the link between sport and national identity.
New Zealand has been defined as a sport orientated country. Phillips (2013) notes that sport
making solidarity among New Zealanders and pride in their country. He says sport is a
significant form of expressing nationalistic feelings for New Zealanders (Phillips, 2013). A
thirteen year old boy Joe Scott opened the door of nationalism of a long distance walking to New
Zealand people, but the All Blacks approaches the climax of national identity (Phillips, 2013). The

12. Gregory The Great Accomplishments
For over a period of seven hundred plus years, from Gregory the Great s papacy to Boniface VIII s
papacy, the world experienced many influential popes, whose accomplishments changed the course
of history. Many of these popes become known for both their positive accomplishments, which
brought prosperity to their people, and for their failures, which in many cases led to their own
death. Throughout the given time period, PopeNicholas II, Pope Gregory VII, Pope Innocent III,
and Pope Gregory IX, were all influential popes whose accomplishments are what they are most
remembered for.
First, Pope Nicholas II decreed that the College of Cardinals would obtain authority to choose
the pope. The College of Cardinals was made up of a group of Roman Church officials who were
in charge of electing the pope, which was put in place to prevent kings from selecting popes. The
declaration made by Nicholas II for the continuation of the College of Cardinals led to the
declaring of independence from political structure. This meant that the Roman Church officials did
not have to seek the approval of the King before electing a new pope, while preventing kings from
electing puppets, to do the bidding of the King. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gregory VII was attempting to test the Church s independence by excommunicating those who

buying and selling of church offices, which was in direct confrontation with the College of
Cardinals, a council that he helped to establish. Overall, Gregory s accomplishments include the

And most important, customers were harder to find than earlier estimates had led the company

14. Explain The Three Rites Of Passage
1.The three main rites of passage (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are puberty, childhood, and death. As people
go through this arc of life social positions change and we are put into certain parts in life. This
because life changes and people go through bodily and physical change throughout life. Rites of
passage allows an individual to participate but there is also a group to go with that person in
which are close to the individual. This means anything that happen to there one friend and they die
or get hurt, it effects them. For example, cultures have types of rituals (Lenkeit 2012: 11) where
there is a celebration of life and when life ends we have a ceremonyfor the death of the person who
meant something to us. It s a way of coming to peace and honoring them.
2.Supernatural belief (Lenkeit 2012: 11) is defined as the belief that transcends the observable,
natural world. So, this has to do with religion and what we get out of it. Supernatural forces
(Lenkeit 2012:11) are the unseen powers that one possesses. These forces go against nature and

Supernatural beings (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are those such as God s and Goddesses, Souls, Ghosts,

something and were not ready to leave, at least this is what society says. There have been
multiple encounters that people have experienced. But, there are also ways to fool others as well
into thinking something is supernatural. Magic (Lenkeit 2012: 11) for example, is a technique to
manipulate supernatural forces and beings. Which leads us to another example of a supernatural
being, witches. The Salem witch trials is one of the most remembered events in time. Women

16. The Role Of Female Serial Killers On The Mind Of A Serial...
Delving into the mind of a serial killer can be a dark and twisted place to go, but also very
interesting and intriguing at the same time. While the majority of serial killers in history have
been men, women have also had their place in this type of crime. Often our first question when we
hear the news of a new serial killer, our first question is who is he? But as we will examine
through the research for this paper, women can also be geared to not only kill but to do it over
and over again. Although women historically are not as abundant as their male counterparts, there
is quite a list of female serial killers. Two of those women are Aileen Wuornos, who has been

The roles and responsibilities were defined by what was inherited from the generations prior and
to a significant degree, these beliefs had a connection with the laws of God disseminated through
the church. As a result, such roles and responsibilities were strongly entrenched hence to
challenge them would result in making the person an outcast. Gender as a whole is a crucial
element to the construction of a society. European women in the nineteenth century lived in the
age of gender inequality and therefore women of both upper and middle class had no
occupational choices and stayed home caring for the children and the house, while men were out
working and bringing home the money. This discourse is considered the norm and as Mary
Klages explains in Literary Theory, she refers to the poststructuralist theories that signifies gender
as attached to sexually dimorphic bodies, which signify the division of social practices and
relations into binary oppositions of male/female and masculine/feminine (Klages 2006, pg. 91

definition of women. Whilst the advocating of social equality within society is an intellectual way

Lead in our Drinking Water
All the controversy about the lead problems in Flint, Michigan has stirred up questions across the
country. Every day there are several news stories about cities across the country discussing the
lead issue and how they meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. While the average
person may feel comforted by these news stories, it doesn t mean that every home served by the
water supply has lead below the EPA s recommended action level. It s the job of water treatment
professionals to educate those served by municipal water about the regulations surrounding lead and
copper and what those consumers can do to protect themselves further.
The rules for lead and copper have changed over the years, so let s start at the beginning. Lead
was originally regulated under the Public Health Service Act of 1962, which established a
guideline of 0.050 mg/L (ppm) for lead in drinking water. This was carried over into the Safe
Drinking Water Actof 1974. It wasn t until 1991 that regulation changed significantly under the
Lead and Copper Rule. This rule regulates how public water supplies must deal with the potential of
lead and copper in the drinking water. Additionally, there is also the Reduction of Lead in Drinking
Water Act, which regulates the amount of lead that can be in products that could come into contact
with drinking water, like pipes, plumbing fitting, fixtures, solder and flux.

Genealogy is the study of one s ancestry and genetic history. It helps us appreciate our ancestor s
lives, which may have been seemingly insignificant at the time. Genealogy helps us understand our
habits and physical features. It also explains the unique genetic variations casted within us, and
depicts a picture of how the culture we practice today came to be, it is not just history of events but
our biological history that shaped us. Many Bangladeshi origin people both in Bangladesh and
those abroad identify themselves as full or pure Bengali. Which means that their Bengali root goes
back many generations back, but many who identify themselves as pure or full Bengali ethnically
don t usually think about their genetic roots that go deeper into just language and culture. Many of
these ethnic Bengalis conclude that their great great grandparents originated from Indiaas that whole
geographic area include modern day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. But, going back
even further things things get really complicated as we start to see all the different genes that
contributed to the Bengalis today. Historically the Indian subcontinent was one big land and people
settled wherever it was convenient for trades and had water access. Because of the many rivers and

22. Women s Roles Of Women In Duel In The Sun
Straying away from the stereotypical timid housewife, women in the West were given room to
create new identities. In the movie Duel in the Sun (1946), Pearl engages in a shootout in the desert
with a man. While in the movie The Outlaw (1943), Rio McDonald ambushes gunfighters in order
to avenge her brother s death. Although women often stood in the shadows of their more rugged
male counterparts, these movies and characters proved that women were just as rugged as men,
shocking the world with their ruthless behavior and unladylike behavior.
These Wild West women were pioneers in their own way because they challenged the traditional
roles of females, similar to how the present day feminist movement aims for gender equality within
a patriarchal society. Present day feminism champions for equal pay in the workplace since
according to the National Organization for Women women are paid on average only 77 percent of
what men are paid. While in the West women were seeking greater job opportunities, women now

23. The Redemption Cycle In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan...
I will make darkness light before them and crooked things straight. These things I will do unto
them and not forsake them Isaiah 42:16. God promises to be there for His people as long as one
believes in Him. The Kumalo family lives in a poor colored city in South Africa where they are
constantly surrounded by the brokenness of the world. Knowing God will not forsake them helps
one with building a strong connection with him. It is through this faith that Stephen, a priest, and
devoted father, is able to find hope in the dark world he faces. Throughout the book Cry, the
Beloved Country by Alan Patonthe flawed main character, Stephen Kumalo is able to go through
the redemption cycle because of his relationship with God.
Stephen is able to complete the redemption cycle when he sins, exhibits his flaws, against his
sister Gertrude because of his strong connection with Christ and his willingness to seek help from
God. Stephen is hurt by his sister s action and proceeds to let his anger out at her when he
confronts her: you have shamed us...a liquor seller, a prostitute, with a child...how could you do
this to us? (Paton 61). When encountering his sister cry from his actions he immediately finds
himself ashamed and repents. Stephen turns to God and prays for him and Gertrude, God forgives

24. Social Network And Its Effects On The Media
Facebook Uncovered
Facebook has always strived on the belief that this social network is where users connect with
not just friends but with the expansive world around them. Recently in the last several years,
some Facebook users have been expose to a world that they were not prepared or intend to see.
Gory visuals of a sinister and graphic nature that document this reality of debauchery has
become viral on some user s news feed. Images and videos of dead bodies, bloody car accidents,
mutilations and animal cruelty are a fragment of what users were exposed to during the
November 2011 gore porn link spam attack (Sarachik 2011). Facebook was able to close the
exploit with the help of Facebook s own technician after being informed of the problem. Still
images and videos depicting real life blood and gore still finds their way on Facebook, where
they can potentially be seen by hundreds of millions of users. Shortly after images of the
execution of James Foley by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) appeared online on
Facebook, a safety advisor for the company calls for the implementation of safety measures that
would prevent users from accidentally accessing the images (Kelion 2014). In recent years
Facebook have been increasingly used by some users on the social network to post graphic content
and obscene pornographic material and the reason for this is because the social network is not
effectively regulating and monitoring the content. The reasons for why Facebook needs

As researched by the Australian Crime Commission, the synthetic cannabinoids appear as a dried,
shredded plant material. The forensic analysis of a range of brands, including the ones seized by
ACT Policing, has indicated that the active ingredient varies both within and between the brands
(ACC 2013).
The naphthoylindole JWH 018 is one of the most common active substances in synthetic
cannabinoids, specifically it is alleged to be in the variety of Spice brand products (NCPIC, 2013)
seized by ACT Policing.
Whilst most synthetic cannabinoids supplied to the United States are believed to be from Asia
(Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program 2012), unconfirmed reports suggest Australiareceives most
of its supply from New Zealand, since the founder of Kronic expanded his New Zealand business to
Australia in 2010 (Australian Drug Foundation 2013). The ban of synthetic cannabinoids in New
Zealand was imposed on 8 May 2014 (NZ Drug Foundation 2014), which may influence the supply
of synthetic cannabinoids to Australia in the future.
The ACT Policing investigation is currently ongoing.

26. Extremophiles Research Paper
Extremophiles R. pachyptila By Richard Wilmer
Extremophiles are organisms that are adapted to not only withstand but thrive in extreme
conditions. R. pachyptila or giant tube worm is a barophile found on the Pacific Ocean floor able
to withstand extremely high pressures. It can grow up to 2.4 metres and inhabits environments
with a temperature range of 2 to 30 degrees Celsius. It is one of many organisms that reside near
hydrothermal vents, specifically black smokers that produce high levels of hydrogen sulphide.
R. pachyptila inhabits the aphotic zone up to several miles below the surface where sunlight is non

characteristic red plume of R. pachyptila can be just as much of a hinderance as it is an asset,
being an attractive target for predators. To remedy this, the plume can be retracted into the chitin
tube when predators draw near. Additionally, the lack of many predators due to the extreme
conditions often allows R. pachyptila to flourish in its ecological

28. The Use Of Hands In Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
There are certain things that interlock humanity together, tie us down to our humanness. We all
have similar physical features: nose, mouth, speech, feet, hands. Every person is individual
designed, holding the same features, but shown in their own beautiful way, hands especially.Even
grotesque creatures carry these characteristics. However, theirs seems to be seen as something
less than beautiful. Grotesque, if you will. Sherwood Anderson, through his work Winesburg,
Ohio, shows these beautiful features, specifically hands, shared by humanity tie us down to our
stories good and bad. As Anderson s novel progresses, the use of hands become more and more
evident, especially the description and the way they re used. Anderson seems to be obsessed with
hands, referring to them as sometimes, white and bloodless (Mother, Anderson), and also
expressing the way they re used: steadied by, turning doorknobs, with her hands waited (Mother,
Anderson), hands dipped in blood (The Philosopher, Anderson), clapped his hands (Godliness II,
Anderson) etc. This is a theme evident throughout the entirety of the novel. This could possibly
express Anderson s way of showing the importance of hands on each of their characters, as he
goes explicitly out of his way to describe what the hands are doing and what they look like. Hands
are often one of the first ways that people interact with each other, creating a bond between each

Thoreau and King s philosophy of disobeying unjust laws that were created without the consent of
the general public could have greatly benefitted the mother from Julie Otsuka s novel When the
Emperor was Divine. Ultimately, if the mother used this technique of disobeying an immoral law,
she could have fought against the devastating injustice of internmentwhich led to her as well as
other Japanese Americans to have negative psychological effects as a result of racism and
marginalization. King s teachings could have positively impacted the mother as he advocated for
disobeying a law that dehumanizes an ethnic group, especially if the group had no say in the
enactment of the law. The government s degradation of Japanese Americans had negative
consequences on the mother as she attempted to hide her Japanese identity, but King s principles
could have helped the mother realize the unfairness of the passing of the government s policies
which would lead to her combating its racism. In King s letter, he makes evident the differences
between moral and unjust laws. He explains his logic for breaking the law as he felt he had no
choice in the creation of the laws which targeted African Americans and kept them inferior.
Specifically, King explains how the segregation laws were inflicted upon a minority even though
the minority had no part in enacting and devising the law which aligns with how the legislature

Korsakov s Syndrome and Memory Loss
Losing one s memory can be a mysterious affliction, and the causes can be quite complex. Severe
memory loss is introduced in author Oliver Sacks collection of stories The Man Who Mistook His
Wife for a Hat, and lectures given by professor Jim Davies can help with understanding of some of
the concepts introduced in the book. In chapter two, The Lost Mariner, the patient Jimmie is
suffering from aspects of both retrograde and anterograde amnesia, which Davies explained as loss
of memory of events or facts learned before an event (the event that caused the amnesia), and
loss of ability to create new memories after the event, respectively. In more detail, and in relation
to our book (here, the target example), retrograde amnesia would consist of any loss of memory
that happened prior to an event, such as an injury or onset of disease in Jimmie s case. Dr.
Davies explanation of retrograde amnesia helps to understand Jimmie s case, where in the year
1975 he is unable to recall any events after 1945. As well, the explanation of anterograde
amnesia as including symptoms such as inability to form new memories, learn information or
tasks, or to recall the recent past is useful when applied to Jimmie s experience of not being able
to recall events that happened even a few minutes prior. Jimmie s suffering from both retro and
anterograde amnesia, as explained by Sacks, results from Korsakov s syndrome a destruction of
memory caused by alcoholic

31. Christian Worldview Analysis
Statistics and the Christian Worldview In the world of statistics, it can be argued that there are
some questions in how ethical statistics can be. Whether or not it is always truthful and what can
be done to make it more trustworthy to even those with a Christian worldview. This essay will go
through some of the underlying issues of statistics and how it can be incorporated into a Christian
worldview. Descriptive Statistics Nineteenth century British statesman Benjamin Disraeli once said,
there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics . When he made this statement, he was
speaking on the fact that statistics can come out skewed or if not properly analyzed can be slightly
falsified without anyone truly knowing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Christian faith, it is important to have good morals, give 110% in all that you do and be
honest and truthful in all that you do and say. In the Bible, one of the 10 commandments say
that Thou shalt not lie . Well when you are doing the things listed above, that is what is
happening. So, in as sense statistics goes against the Christian Worldview because it is not
100% honest in the results and can be easily altered to look truthful when it is not. Statistics are
hardly ever straight forward and can be deceitful when not properly managed and processed.
When confronted with an ethical issue, statisticians should address the issue directly and
honestly without giving the customer the false hope that the problem will resolve itself or
simply go away. Philosophers, since the dawn of civilization, have developed approaches to
ethical analysis. Instead of a detailed systems history and analysis, the following general
questions may be useful for statisticians to consider as a basis for ethical inquiry:1) Is there a
duty to act in a certain way that is recognized and followed by others? [(Ross 1930], 2) What are
the consequences of the proposed action and will it benefit the most people? [Mill 1971], 3)
Would my decision toward someone else, if it were made concerning me, also be acceptable to
me? [Shaw 1991] 4) Would the decision be the same if it were published on the front page of The

32. The Importance Of Concussions In Sports
In many recent studies, scientists and doctors have been making significant discoveries about the
difference between women s and men s rates of concussions in various sports. This is shown
through the process of how women and men deal with concussions, statistical data, and the
equipment for both women and men.
To begin, the physiological process women and men go through from impact and healing is
different in a plethora of ways. For example, women are shown to report more concussion
symptoms like: poor concentration, increased fatigue, headache, and visual hallucinations (NCAA).
Also, women suffer from greater cognitive decline and slowed reaction time relative to males
(NCAA). Lastly, female concussed athletes perform more poorly on BESS (Balance Error Scoring
System) following concussion relative to males (NCAA). On the other hand, the men will have the
same symptoms but will last shorter than what women deal with due to low pre injury levels of
progesterone (The Washington Post).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In women s soccer the rate of concussion compared to boys is 2.1%. In women s softball, the
rate of concussion is up by 3.2%. Lastly, in women s basketball, the rate of concussion compared
to men s basketball is up by 1.7%. This data alone shows a number of concussions reported in the
perspective sports compared to the men s sports. To contrast, the rate of concussions in men s
soccer is 19 19.2%. For men s baseball, the concussion rate is 4.6 5. Lastly, in men s basketball, the
rate of concussion is 16 21.2 % (Headcase). What this data shows is that the rate of a sports
concussion varies by how many people play in it, and for women, not a lot of women play sports so
the rate can be biased in the way of how many people play the sport [in

In 1896, the New Women, whom were to depict the twentieth century female, came to P.T.
Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while
demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the
circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a
majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine
propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling
alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race,
class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of
clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved
shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude,
including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis
on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about
sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most
objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil
War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long
sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought
that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even
audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century,
American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for
prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). Because they were often

Today, political parties are an authoritative and essential component of the United States political

hundreds of years, since they were first established. In 1794, the major political parties were the
Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. The major difference between these two was that the
Federalists favored a strong central government, while the Democratic Republicans preferred a
central government with limited power and more state control. At the time of the election, it

A looming question in the minds of many people was whether political parties would destroy the
newly formed union or strengthen it and opinion on the answer was highly divided. The years
from 1789 to 1801 and the events that took place between them were vital in the survival and
development of the government of the new nation. The American people had proved to be effective
in destroying governments, as seen in the American Revolution and the ultimate destruction of the
Articles of Confederation and the test of the nation was if the people could build a new, competent
government (93). The 1794 election was tremendously important in that it was part of the shift
towards a more democratic government and the citizens of the land feared both an oligarchic
based system and a democratic one. Although the Federalists controlled much of the public
opinion, John Swanwick and the Democratic Republicans procured the victory. Swanwick
controlled the votes of seven of the twelve wards, and collected 56% of the votes cast (93). This
defeat resulted in a sudden shift from Federalist power to Democratic Republican dominance and
Federalism slowly lost more and more influence.

and diverse. The way to understand any election is to understand why the voters chose one candidate

Edward scissor hands tells us a story about an artificial man, Edward Scissor hands , who was

The Silent Killer: An Analysis of Imagination Evolving into a Distraction in Tim O Brien s The
Things They Carried
In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried , O Brien created several allusions that each character
endured during the Vietnam War. Throughout the story were vast representations of the things the
soldiers carried both mentally and physically. The things they carried symbolized their individual
roles internally and externally. In addition to the symbolism, imagination was a focal theme that
stood out amongst the characters. This particular theme played a role as the silent killer amongst
Lt. Cross and the platoon both individually and collectively as a group. The theme of imagination
created an in depth look of how the war was perceived through each character which helped
emphasize their thoughts from an emotional standpoint of being young men out at war.
Imagination hindered the platoon which clouded their judgment and decision making. Instead of
remaining focused their wandering mind lacked what was necessary, assessing the task at hand. In
some respects, though not many, the waiting was worse than the tunnel itself. Imagination was a
killer. (O Brien 619) In relation to the quote imagination was a killer , this metaphor represents how
the soldiers made situations like being in the tunnel mentally challenging for them. Paranoia

3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up.
Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets
schooling and works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell
otherwise. Children born into high income families have about twice as much chance of
becoming middle class or better in their adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way
in which the lower income kids can beat the chances is by getting a college degree. Those who

In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college are powerful enough to boost
the income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income
achieved by their parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more
advantaged family backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education (Isaacs, Sawhill,
Haskins 34). To put it in another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to
possess economic stability. Now, if we look at it from the country s perspective, education can be
part of the solution to the wealth gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is
directly related to educational level. A college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond.
Today, obviously, the idea that everyone should attend to college is indisputable. But there is
definitely nothing magical about its price. As higher education institutions keep on rising its

The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether
higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming
years. Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into

38. God s Benevolent Nature Of God In The Old Testament
Throughout the Old Testament, there are many clear examples that show God s benevolent
nature and portray him as a life giving force. For example, in Exodus 3:7 10, the LORD says that
he has heard the affliction of the Israelites and will deliver them from the oppression of Egypt
through Moses. God also says that he will lead them up from that land(Egypt) into a good and
spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the
Amorites,...etc. This presents a God that wants to redeem his people and bring them back to a
position of prosperity. From this, the reader can conclude that God doesn t want his people to
suffer. In addition to this example, the Bibleshows the reader other instances of God s loving
nature. In the Book of Exodus, we can see how God is a benevolent figure because of the
promises he makes to Abraham and the Israelites if they fulfill their side of the covenant. In
Exodus 19:4 6, God tells the people that he will turn them into a nation of priests and has lifted
them up upon eagles wings . He even explicitly tells the Israelites that he will fulfill his promises
. Additionally,in Genesis 12:1 3, the LORD says Go forth from your land, your relatives, and from
your father s house to a land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless
you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you

The impact on its social development is that the interaction it has with people who are not deaf.
The majority of social development deals with gestures (Marschark 92). Gestures deal with how
a child can be social with other people, for example using hand signal gestures with the thumb
and index fingers or body gestures to interact with them. Another example of social development
of children is that at a young age children who are deaf develop sounds or proto words to explain
something. The impact that deafness has on the cognitive development of children is how
language deals with cognition. Language deals with how a person learns cognitively and with
learning communication that deaf people are attributed with then their cognitive thinking
changes in that they have to think more physically. The cognitive development of a child who is
deaf is distinctively different than a child who is not. A child who is deaf may be a step above
cognitively than a child who is not, because they have to learn more in order to function with
other children their age. The physical development of a child who is deaf has no impact on the
child what so ever. The impact that deafness has on a child has greatly more importance to the
social and cognitive development of a child. The physical development of a child other than not
being able to hear through both ear canals is the only physical disability that it has. The ear canals

than an opportunity to change and improve journalistic practice. This example I have chosen for
this essay will attempt to critically analyze this quote; whether the Internet is mostly developed for
economic opportunity or for the advancement of journalistic practice.
First and foremost, The New Straits Times Press (NTSP) has been chosen as my main media

42. A Summary Of Vildar s Fight
Vildar flexed his fingers and put his elbow on the table. Tiber Grist shrugged and followed suit.
Arm wrestling. That s what the game is. Thought Holt. Probably not the best move Vildar had
made, especially drunk and against an opponent who was bigger and stronger than him. But
strength was not always the winner in these things, a little cunning always helped, and that s what
Holt hoped to adopt.
They took their positions, hands interlocking. Tiber Grist grinned crookedly at his challenger.
Immediately Vildar s arm was driven back. Holt watched as his muscles locked taking the strain.
Veins in his arms and temples bulged, threatening to burst as he tried to force the strongerGnomes
arm back. But it was no use, sweat beaded his forehead and eyes popping with the ... Show more

He cracked his knuckles. Very well, but I warn you, I am not very good at this.
Tiber Grist eyed him, deciding whether to believe him or not.
Holt had lied. In fact, he was very good at this. Eldon and himself often arm wrestled for fun, and
like Grist, Eldon was bigger and stronger than him.
But he did not need to win. For this plan to work. He needed to lose.
He took the strain, forcing the other Gnomes arm backwards. He might mean to lose the game but
it did not mean he was going to make it easy for Grist.
Holt continued to force the arm back. A look of startled surprise crossed Tiber Grist s features. A
bead of sweat ran down his face and dripped off the nose ring.
Slowly Holt released the pressure. Not enough to cause suspicion, just enough to let Grist think he
was gaining the upper hand.
Around them the other Gnome s bayed and chanted, slapping their hands and beer jugs on the
wooden benches.
Gradually Grist wrestled Holt s arm back until it was inches above the tabletop. Holt held it there,
showing the strain on his face. Then he let it go. Tiber Grist grinned in triumph. Well done, for a
moment there I thought you had me.
Lucky, I guess, Holt

43. The Monk In The Canterbury Tales
A traditionally monk is, typically, a skinny old man who is wise or a young, fit man who is
stilling learning. They are, usually, kind people who prefer peacefully resolutions to problems,
also they do not indulge themselves with worldly desires they only use what they need to survive
and nothing more. They are people that are strong of mind and body and like to help those in
need even if they do not have much to give themselves. They are scholarly people who give up
everything to pursue higher state of mind, soul, and body. They do not hunt animals as a sport they
are, mostly, vegetarians and those who do eat meat will hunt enough to feed themselves and not a
single animal more. That is what a monk, in the eyes and minds of others, is in... Show more content

There are colors in his attire that show the sins that he allowed to take him from the path of a
true monk. There are two colors that describe him completely. The colors are yellow and blue
these three colors represent the emotions greed and lust. The first emotion, greed, is shown and
represented by how much gold he wears and he dressed in expensive clothes instead of the
normal, plain clothes that monks usually wear. Greed is an emotion that monks left go when
they a join a monastery. They do this because when they become they must let go of their greed
because monks are people that give to others to make their lives easier while not caring for their
own needs and wants. The Monk has not let go of his greed which brings of the question of why
he cannot let go of it. Is he that consumed by his own wants and needs that he does not help feel
the others or is because he is scared that he gives too much and in up in the situation as them.
The next sin that the Monk displays is lust. He displays it in three different ways in lust for
women, hunting, and riding. Hunting and riding are act lust because lust is not just the yearning
of sex with a woman (or a man) it is when a person loses self control and acts on desires that are
supposed to be acted upon. His lust for women that is be allowed because a monk must remain
celibate and must think of the lord. They do not hunt or ride because they mostly eat grains

In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? the conflicts arise as Philip K. Dick examines
empathy and its place in a future society. The main character Rick Deckard internalizes this
conflict inevitably progressing the story. Even though the end of the novel does not disclose
Deckard s future, one can easily assume he will not go back to his bounty hunting job as Rick
Deckard realizes true empathy does not require reciprocation. In beginning of the novel Deckard
s wife wife describes him as a murderer rationalizing his job Deckard defends himself by saying I
ve never killed a human being in my life (Dick 5). After killing android singer Luba Luft,
Deckard questions how can a talent like that be a liability to our society? (Dick 137). Deckard
hunts the more intelligent androids to protect ourselves (Dick 141). At the end of the novel,
Deckard comes to terms with his own life retiring by saying it ll be all right... and I m going to die

45. Corruption In Jamacia Kincaid s A Small Place
Jamacia Kincaid s A Small Place is most certainly a postcolonial text she illustrates the problems
and consequences of the decolonization of Antigua, especially questions to the political and
cultural independence of formerly subjugated people. Kincaid positions the reader into a bevy of
different angles; in the first section Kincaid describes the natural beauty of the island as a
hypothetical tourist. As a reader we are being isolated from the harsher realities of the people that
live there. The information given is facts only a native would know, for example the reason why
the majority of the cars on the island are poorly run. In Kincaid s guided tour are her views about
the mansions on the island, which are gained through corruption. In... Show more content on

As an example, she takes the state of the library, awaiting repairs after all these years and forced
to reside in temporary quarters above a dry goods store. Kincaid has fond, if ambivalent, feelings
toward the old library, which was a haven of beauty and an escape into reading for her as a child.
She recalls the imperious ways of the head librarian (who suspected Kincaid, rightly, of stealing
books), who is now sadly reduced to campaigning, mostly unsuccessfully, for funds to build a
new library, while the collection decomposes in cardboard boxes. The rich members of the Mill
Reef Club have the funds to help, but will do so only if the old library is rebuilt a demand that
Kincaid sees as having more to do with nostalgia for the colonial regime than with a true desire to
help. Kincaid mentions the ironies involved in Antigua having a Minister of Culture without having
a culture to administer. She also mentions her politically active mother s run in with the current
Minister of Culture, who has allowed the library to languish. Education has clearly suffered on
Antigua in the years since independence, and Kincaid ruefully notes the poor speech habits of the

47. Swot Analysis Of Red Bull
Red Bull Energy drink was founded in the 1980s by Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz in
partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya. This came as an inspiration to an existing drink called Krating
Daeng, which was introduced in Thailand by Chaleo Yoovidhya. Dietrich modified the ingredients
and the first red bulldrink was sold in Austria in the year 1987.
Red Bull is available in 169 countries and around 5.9 billion were sold in the year 2015 around
the world. It has grown and has now become the highest selling energy drink in the world. It
started as an energy drink consumed by Thai truck drivers and laborers and now has now become
the most preferred energy drink worldwide by sportsmen, workaholics, youth and many active
people s lives. Red Bull is especially produced targeting the sports people and it is considerably
growing in that segment worldwide.
When it comes to hitting the marketing in the Philippines, Red Bull must examine how the
implementation strategy using the marketing mix. In addition to that, the company must
understand the cultures, beliefs, and way of life of Filipinos to adapt the product into the social
structure of the country.
Product
Red Bull drink idea came from Krating Daeng which is a non carbonated energy drink available
originated in Thailand. Red Bull drink contained ingredients like that but a few more added to
accommodate the western taste and became carbonated. The product mix of Red Bull can be
elaborated as follows. Red Bull energy drink contains caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, sucrose and
glucose which is mainly required by workaholics, sports people or even youth who want to party
at night. As there is a usual trend that occurs in the younger segment, they came up with a sugar
free variant called Red Bull SugarFree which contains aspartame and acesulfame K instead of
sucrose and glucose. The drink is available in a tall blue silver can with 2 red bulls on the front
whereas Krating Daeng is a gold short can. The two products are produced differently and
available in different countries and red bull is a much more popular energy drink worldwide.
With the different variety of drinks, Red Bull can expand into the market of the Philippines by
promoting their sugar free

48. The Impact of Divorce on Children Essay
In the United States today, we live in a society that has perhaps one of the highest rates of divorce
amongst all other industrial nations at a rate averaging around 40 to 50 percent. Of that staggering
rate of divorce, 60 percent of those involve children. Because of this, more than one million children
go through their parents divorceeach year. Now, during this time of divorce a great focus seems to
be drawn between the adults, but at what point should we wonder about the children? What
changes and potential consequences are thrust upon the child forced to go through what might be
considered an extremely demanding ordeal such as his/her parents divorce. I will tackle this topic
with the assistance of various resources that have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trauma and distress of children going through divorce is often produced from overwhelming
senses of vulnerability as the family seemingly collapses, grief at the loss of what felt like an
intact family as well as at the loss of the non custodial parent, and even a strong sense of
powerlessness to being unable to prevent the divorce from happening.
The simple act of divorce alone can be a very stressful event for any child. As such, the looming
realization that things will be different, yet not knowing how, often plays to the fears of the child.
Divorce for a child can often lead to reduced contact with the non custodial parent (often the
father), lower standards of living, moving from one home to another, changing schools, having
more responsibility thrust upon them, or even the potential for the custodial parent to be less
psychologically or physically available for the child when they need them. All of these are
environmental forces that can lead to an overwhelming amount of stress for any child, leaving
them in a negative position and making it harder for them to cope and adjust to the divorce. Often
times children can t mentally cope with the divorce, either. With children being as egocentric as
they are, it is impossible for a child to look at the conflict between their parents indifferently. Many
children are stuck with a sense that they are the reason for their

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster was the worst nuclear catastrophe to have ever occurred

Therefore, the test program was not formally coordinated with either the chief designer of the
reactor, nor with the scientific manager. Instead, it was approved only by the director of the plant.
According to the test parameters, at the start of the experiment, the thermal output of the reactor
should have been no lower than 700 MW. If the conditions of the reactor had been as planned, the
test almost certainly would have proceeded safely. The eventual disaster resulted from attempts to
boost the reactor output once the experiment had started, inconsistent with the approved
procedure. (Marples 39 43) The Chernobyl power plant had been in operation for two years
without the capability to ride through the first 60 75 seconds of a total loss of electric power. The
station managers wished to correct this at the first opportunity. This may explain why they
continued the test, even when serious problems arose, and why the requisite approval for the test
was not sought from the Soviet nuclear oversight regulator. (Gale 22 25) At 1:23:04 a.m. the
experiment began, the steam to the turbines was shut off, and a run down of the turbine generator
began, together with the four Main Circulating Pumps (MCP). The diesel generator started and

these four MCPs was supplied by the coasting down turbine generator. As the momentum

53. The Ultimate Motive In Voltaire s Candide
The slaying of a mythical beast, a battle between opposing cavalries, the search for prosperity and
riches. A quest generally has a stated motive, such as the events stated, and a more clandestine
motive, often not revealed to the audience until the end of the story. In Voltaire s Candide, while the
apparent intent for Candidethrough most of the story is to rescue the damsel in distress, the ultimate
motive reveal takes Candide traversing insurmountable obstacles. The quest format utilized by
Voltaireis vital to the story, The format allows Voltaire to destroy the naivete of the audience and
satirize ideas that were the foundations of the lives of men.
When the audience reads Candide, they first learn about his upbringing. Living comfortably in the
lap of wealth, and learning from renowned philosophers, Candide cradles the world in his palms.
While learning Pangloss s Everything is for the greater good philosophy, Candide absorbs a
plethora of naive wisdom. Candide s cushy bubble crumbles, however, once he kisses the Baron s
daughter, Cunegonde. Candide is thrust into the unrelenting reality of the harsh world when the
Baron banished him from his estate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

himself. While witnessing Pangloss s death, Candide proclaims If this was the best of possible
worlds, what then are the others? This statement shows the seed of doubt as been sowed into
Candide s mind. While this seems to be a setback in his quest, it actually advances him closer to the
actual goal: self knowledge and comprehension about suffering. This statement also shows the
satirical nature of this novel. The third and largest crack in the philosophy and the candor of the
audience is the posed question If everything is for the greater good, and we live in the best
possible worlds, why is there still suffering in this

Introduction technology as a life enhancing tool is on the rise in development projects, and as
people become more dependent on technology, exploring how culture and technology intersect is
increasingly important for the wellbeing of target communities. Colombia is a significant point of
departure in this exploration as this country has experienced an influx of development programs
implementing information and communication technologies (ICTs) laptops, mobile tablets and
mobile phones as tools to enhance the livelihoods of people living in rural communities. Of the 5

55. Analysis Of An Open Letter To Myself
The song An Open Letter to Myself, off of the album The Here and Now, by Architects is an
exemplary song that undergoes a complementary set of major changes throughout the piece. This
song was released in 2011 and it would be classified as somewhere within the hard rock to metal
genre. While it is common to note the relationship between the writer, performer, and the listener,
in this piece it is particularly important to do so. Without one of these components present, this
song would likely not carry the same emotional weight as it does. Moreover, this song carries its
meaning through its differentiation from itself. Within the piece, the lyrics shift from originally
blaming others to blaming the writer and the intensity of the audio changes from soft to grand to
compliment this change. One of the major changes this song makes from the beginning to the end
can be noted in the lyrics. The writer, Sam Carter, expresses a sense of multifaceted growth
through the piece. In the first verse, the writer brushes off the lack of connection to those around
him as something that was common to others around him by utilizing either third person, or first
person plural, articles to describe what he did not do. Thus, he believed that he should not be
judged for this error. However, in the second verse, Carter turns to explicitly blaming himself for
the lack of contact and appreciation of an individual he refers to throughout the song as my so
called friend . This
