e. Brass.
Learn about non-steel materials
State types, characteristics and uses of the following non-steel materials:
a. Glass
b. Plastic

4. We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and
sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the
people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent
down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the
people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support
Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and
Exalted in Might.
(Al-Hadid, 25)
5. STEEL
• Steel can be classified as iron steel (ferrous) and non-
iron steel (non ferrous).
IRON STEEL
• Iron steel is the a kind of alloy that usually containing iron and carbon.
• The types of iron steel are ingot/pig iron, cast iron, wrought iron, and mild
steel
Ingot Cast

Wrought Mild

6. • Contains 93% pure iron, 3 to 5%
carbon and the remaining
silica, sulfur, phosphorus and
CHARACTERISTICS manganese.
• Production process is done by
using the blast furnace.
• Used as the main ingredient in
the production of iron such as
cast iron, wrought iron and steel.
USES It is not used in its own form for
engineering applications.
7.
8.
9. • Strong in terms of pressure, but weak in
terms of tensile
• 69MN/m2 tensile strength or elastic limit
is twice the tensile strength.
• Will melt at a temperature of 1500
CHARACTERISTICS degree in furnace.
• Strong but brittle.
• Can not be tapped or soldered but can be
formed using the mold.
• Heat resistant and vibrate-resistant.
• Light
poles, ladders, handrail, grating, drainag
e cover, discharge pipe.
USES • Cylinder head, pipe, casing.
• Disbursements madeby using several
types of furnace such as air
furnace, copula and duplex furnace.
10.
11. • Is the most pure iron content of 99% iron and
0.25% carbon.
• Soft but strong.
• Can be formed by way of knock only if heated up
to 1000 degrees and use the Bessemer converter.
CHARACTERISTICS • More resistant to rust from cast iron.
• Density 7690kg/m3, 207MN/m2 maximum
compressive strength, shear strength maximum
of 276 MN/m2.
• Be welded and have a high work a convenience
feature.
• Gate, a band of iron and steel products to
be formed or forged.
USES • Rivets, nails, bolts, auto parts and
machine components.
12.
13. • Metal is made of iron and containing carbon of
0.12% to 1.8%.
• Strong, hard, easy to set up and can be refined
CHARACTERISTICS or extended as wire, stainless steel, heat
resistant, resistant to magnetic and other
properties that are not on iron.
• Used to build bridges, ships, automobiles, the
elements in the construction industry such as
frames, joists, reinforcement.
• Components of electrical equipment, food
containers, tools carpentry and structural
USES materials.
• Steel for structural materials are available in the
form of H, T, I and Z.
• Keep in mind that the steel will not burn when
exposed to fire, but it will be weak, so it should
be coated with other materials such as concrete
or asbestos.
14.
15. NON IRON STEEL
• Non-iron steel is based metal that other than iron (ferrous), for example:
copper, aluminum, zinc, tin, magnesium, nickel and lead.
Copper
Aluminum
Zinc
Bronze
Brass
16. • Metal is made of iron and containing carbon of

17. NON STEEL MATERIAL
• Metals other than iron and steel known as non-ferrous metal. These metals are
widely used for building structures or to make lightweight materials, electricity
conductor and so on. Non-steel material used as glass, plastic and asphalt.
