The Effects Of Athletic Participation On Academic Performance
The purpose of the literature review was to determined the effects of athletic participation on
academic performance and if there were differences between the male and female athletes of the
Mennonite High School. In order to determine whether participating in sporting events have an impact
on the student s academic performance, the researcher collected existing data during the sport season
period, there the participants assessment grades (AG) were calculated. These scores were compared
with the immediate post season average to see whether there was a significant difference between the
scores received during and after participating in their various sporting activities. There were studies
done that found that the participation of student athletes may not only have positive effects on their
academic achievement but there may also be positive effects in other areas of their adolescent life.
According to the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS), students who became
involved in sports or extracurricular activities promote lifelong lessons in teamwork, self discipline;
facilitate the emotional development of the youths. The National Federation of State High School uses
several sources to support their claim that students who participate in activity programmes have better
academic averages, better attendance records, a lower dropout rate and fewer discipline problems
(NFHS, 2002, p.2). March (1992) found that students who participate in extracurricular

Examples Of Uncertainty Reduction Theory

Comm theory 3720
Professor Dr. Fred Fitch Journal 2 Uncertainty reduction theory
Firstly, Uncertainty reduction theory was written by Charles Berger, his theory focus on the way
human predict and interact to others. His theory focused on two types of uncertainty and eight Atoms
for uncertainty. According to Charles Uncertainty reduction theory is an increased knowledge of what
kind of person another is, which provides an improved forecast of how a future interaction will turn
out. In another word mean that communication is the key to form health relationship. As human we
communicate to generally understanding one another and also reduction our uncertainty. I can apply
uncertainty reduction theory to every aspect of my life; I can also apply uncertainty reduction theory
to my love life, my first day at a new school, making new friends and meeting new people, new

Jazz Messenger Art Blakey
In the same way as other admired jazz artists, the drummer Art Blakey held tight sufficiently long to
see his way to deal with music return into style.
A main drummer of the post World War II bop style exemplified by Charlie Parker, Blakey was better
known for his authority of his Jazz Messengers, one of the longest running and reliably superb
gatherings in jazz. The street to incredible status was twisting, in any case. Shunning the vanguard,
Blakey was overlooked by jazz faultfinders in the trial 1960s and disregarded by American groups of
onlookers in the 1970s, when rock applied its hegemonic control over the matter of popular music.
Not able to land a U.S. recording contract, he discharged various collections for European names in

Putting aside his neo bop style, which he spearheaded, Blakey took in band individuals whose tastes
were unequivocally more pop than jazz. Throw Mangione s minimal known stay in the Messengers
trumpet seat was maybe a definitive impression of the breakdown in the social concensus about the
components of true jazz. Yet for Blakey afficianados, the 1970s have much to offer, as another re issue
from Fantasy Records illustrates. Mission Eternal contains two full collections recorded by a heavenly
Blakey band in March 1973 and initially discharged by the Prestige mark under the titles of Buhaina
and Athenagin. A cut underneath Blakey s best recordings of the 1960s, these collections by and by
demonstrate a familiarity with the cutting edge, a desire for Latin beats and roused exhibitions by solid
sidemen. Cedar Walton stays the gathering on piano and contributes some solid organizations,
outstandingly Mission Eternal. Carter Jefferson, an innovative saxophonist who merits more extensive
thankfulness, strikes a decent harmony between constancy to models and the unavoidable quest for
new sounds. His performance on Gertrude s Bounce is brutish yet melodic. Vocalist Jon Hendricks,
who joins the gathering on two cuts, is hypnotizing on the jazz standard Moanin and spooky on Along

Mapp V. Ohio Case
The Mapp v Ohio case originated in Ohio when police forced their way into Dollree Mapp s house
without a search warrant. The police went into the house because Dollree was suspected to be
harboring a bomber. The police did not find the suspect but found in the basement pictures that were
obscene. She was convicted in an Ohio court. She argued her 4th amendment rights were violated
during the search by the police. Mapp eventually took her appeal to United States supreme court. The
evidence obtained at Mapps house was illegal evidence and was arrested for it.
The problem with this case is Dollree s 4th amendment was violated by the police. The police came
earlier to the house and asked to search the house for a suspected bomber when they failed

A Study On The Healthcare Field
From an early age, I gained much knowledge about the healthcare field. My younger brother was
diagnosed with Autism, Psychosis, and Asperger. My mother was diagnosed with depression, anxiety
disorder, diabetes and hyper blood tension. Due to my mom not being educated, she cannot read or
write in Spanish or English. I was forced to learn everything in the healthcare field. I quickly became
intrigued of each specialized field when I took my family to their doctors appointments. A few
qualities I looked for when searching for new physician was affordability, patient satisfaction, and a
well organized practice. Not everyone has affordable insurance, or receives the best quality of care
due to poor organized facilities. My true passion towards the healthcare field arose when I started on
my career in the financial department. I knew that I wanted to help a group of people and the
healthcare facilities to create affordable and quality care. As the next health administrative leader I
want to make a difference by offering a well managed healthcare facility, providing effective quality
care, and high patient satisfaction to all healthcare facilities. In my current role as a financial
counselor, I am exposed to several diverse backgrounds, insurances, and medical procedures. Each
day I learn something new and met new patients that hold an interesting story. I have learned that their
stories are never the same and it s important to treat them for who they are and not a number. When

Data Anonymization Essay
1. INTRODUCTION Data in its original shape contains sensitive information about individuals, and
publishing such data will breach individual privacy. The recent practice in data publishing relies
mainly on rules and guidelines as to what kinds of data can be published and on agreements on the use
of published data. This approach may lead to extreme data distortion or inadequate protection. Privacy
preserving data publishing provides methods and tools for publishing useful information and also for
preserving data privacy. Privacy preserving data publishing was intended to construct published tables
in a way that allows systematic tasks (e.g., aggregate query answering, data mining) over the
published data and also for protecting the privacy of individual s data. Privacy preserving data mining
refers to the area of data mining that seeks to preserve the sensitive information from unsolicited or
unendorsed disclo¬sure. The major objective of privacy preserving data mining is to construct the
algorithms for modifying the original data in various ways, so that the confidential data and
knowledge remain confidential even after the mining process. Data anonymization is the process of
obscuring published data to prevent the identification of the key information. There are two
approaches known as generalization and suppression used in the anonymization process.
Generalization is the process of replacing less specific value with the higher value. Suppression

The Little Rock Crisis Essay
The Little Rock Crisis
Research Paper Imagine for a moment being put in the president s shoes and having to make a
decision that affects the whole country. Imagine that the decision you made is not very popular and
that you get criticized and scoffed at for it. During the term of each president, there are many difficult
decisions that must be made. Making these types of decisions may be difficult, but they are necessary
to the benefit of the country. President Eisenhower was faced with a very difficult decision. While
facing his decision he wanted to uphold the Constitution and the laws, but also avoid a difficult
confrontation with people who had very high emotions. Eisenhower did not want to be criticized by
those who felt he did not ensure civil rights, as well as those who believed he had gone too far in
asserting federal power over the states. The difficult decision that Eisenhower faced to send in Federal
Troops to Little Rock, Arkansas showed his support for the Constitution, and for the protection of the
people, even though it was not popular and went against his own personal beliefs.
History
In the South, complications arose over the separation of Negro and white students in schools. In 1953,
President Eisenhower had appointed former California Governor Earl Warren to Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court. The next year, the Supreme Court made its historic decision declaring the separation
of racial groups in school unconstitutional (Cannon, 1990, p. 205). The

The Age Of Franco Research Paper
The Age of Francisco
Francisco Franco was a ruthless dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975. He started as a talented military
general, who rose up to power and lead the Nationalist rebels to victory in the Spanish Civil War.
During his time as dictator, he ruled with confidence and control, and sided with the Axis Powers
during World War Two, but then quickly gained a good reputation with the United Nations after the
war was over. As one of the many dictators of the World War Two era, Franco is an important figure in
history.
Biography
Francisco Franco was born in El Ferrol, Spain on December 4,1892 into a military family. Following
in his father s footsteps, Franco joined the military and graduated from Toledo Military Academy. In
1913, he got his first assignment and was posted to Morocco. There, Franco proved to be a courageous
officer and was promoted very quickly. He also gained the reputation of being ... Show more content

Franco s main goal was to restore Spain to its former glory. Just five months after the Spanish civil
war ended, World War Two started. Spain remained neutral in the war because of their intense debt,
however they sided with the Axis Powers. Francisco Franco did meet with Adolf Hitler in the middle
of the war saying Spain would join the war on the side of the Axis powers if Germany agreed to some
of Franco s terms. Hitler denied this request and Spain stayed out of the war. Franco tried to become
completely neutral in the war in 1943 but it was too late, Spain was invested too deeply with the Axis
Powers and gained enemies. The west already viewed Franco as a fascist and did not support him.
Franco tried to change this by changing the name of The State Party to the State Movement to appear
as though he was not fascist. With this change and his anti communist views, Spain gained political
popularity with the United States and was asked to join the United Nations in

Different Types Of Computers
In order to determine what type of computer to purchase for your BYOD (bring your own device), you
need to determine what kind of computer user you are and what needs you have.
In a world today in which we are more mobile (or need to be) than ever before, a mobile device can be
a possible solution to your BYOD needs. Mobile devices can include smartphones, tablets, ultrabooks,
netbooks, tablet PC s and laptops. Which mobile device you decide should be depended on purpose of
use and preference on which one suites your BYOD needs.

The higher the processor rate, the faster in which a processor can process information and thus the
quicker it will be. In some instances, individuals boost clock speed by overclocking, a term used to
push the clock speed beyond the manufacturers recommendation. This is common for those who use
their computers for gaming. However, doing so will void the warranty and can overheat the CPU.
Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU
uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower
through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2),
stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. When there is Level 3 (L3) cache, L3 cache will be on a
separate chip and L1 and L2 will be built onto the CPU. More cache memory will allow a processor to
be more powerful.
RAM is known as Random Access Memory. This is the temporary memory space for a computer. The
more RAM you have the more programs you can have operating at the same time. It temporarily
houses the instructions and information the computer is currently using but only does so when the
computer on. When the power is off, any data on the RAM is wiped clean.
There are different types of RAM. The common type of RAM today is double data rate 3 (DDR3).
With each DDR3 RAM, they come in different speed rates. The higher the speed rate, the higher the

Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration
Title of the article: Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration In Mesio Buccal
Root Of Maxillary First Molar Using Three Dimensional Imaging. Abstract: This case report discusses
on the identification and management of complex canal configuration of 3 2 1 in the mesio buccal
(MB) root of maxillary left first molar. Careful attention to details in the pulpal floor, application of
knowledge of laws of orifice location along with deepening the sub pulpal groove with ultra sonic tips
helped in identifying the three MB canals. Manual scouting helped to know the anatomic
configuration and use of three dimensional imaging technique, Spiral computed tomography (SCT)
confirmed the same.SCT images showed bucco lingually wide and bulbous mesio buccal root with
three separate canals at coronal third that merged into two canals in the middle and exited as a single
canal at the apex. This article highlights the role of SCT in three dimensionally analysing the unseen
rarest canal configurations that ultimately enabled the clinician to thoroughly explore, debride and
obturate entire root canal system. Key words: Canal configuration, Maxillary first Molar, Mesio

Counterterrorism Model Effectiveness
Effectiveness of the counterterrorism model
After the 9/11 attacks, the reports of Al Qaeda attacking the United States directly have been
minimized. Development of the intelligence sharing has led to open sharing of information where
terrorists can be easily tracked. The wiretapping of phone calls, for example, has led to the tracking of
terrorist activities. The greatest achievement of the intelligence post the 9/11 attacks was the follow up
of Al Qaeda`s leader Osama bin Laden. By killing the group s leader, the US achieved partial
deactivation of the group although it wasn`t dismantled as its effects are still evident in the Islamic

Examples Of Self Realization In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Self realization is a prominent theme in Their Eyes Were Watching God. This story is centered around
Janie s life journey towards independence. In the beginning of the book, Janie begins telling her story
to Phoebe about her vision under the pear tree. As a sixteen year old, she discovers the idea of true
love: a commitment of true trust, equality, and devotion. This vision is an early sign that Janie desires
self sufficiency. This love doesn t require her whole dependence upon another person, it s a
relationship that would entreat Janie as an equal to her husband, although society believes that men are
superior. Janie is first married off to Logan Killicks, who treats her like a child. He expects her to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Indium-Tin Oxide
Indium tin oxide (ITO) is a well known n type transparent semiconducting oxide material. ITO is an
In2O3 based material that has been doped with Sn to improve the electrical conductivity. Here tin acts
as a cationic dopant in the In2O3 lattice and substitute on the indium sites to bind with the interstitial
oxygen. Due to its high optical transmittance in the visible region, high electrical conductivity and
wide band gap ( 3.5 eV), it has been widely applied in various optoelectronic devices such as
photovoltaic cells [1], liquid crystal displays [2] and gas sensors [3]. The ITO thin films commonly

The Effects Of War On The Economy
The impact on the economy is strongly overlooked when people mention the consequences of war.
Most people believe the consequences of war are simply just a destruction of land and a large number
of casualties. However, going to war has a devastating economic impact in any country for a countless
number of reasons. No matter how wealthy a country may be, going to war can still strongly affect the
economy without a doubt. Many of the reasons on why this is true is mainly because of the
macroeconomic cost for manufacturing weapons, financing veteran care, and even borrowing money
from other countries that turns into financial debt. As a result, the economy faces many consequences
such as declining economic growth, decreasing wealth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated earlier, Europe had suffered one of the most devastating impacts during and after WWII. In
fact, Europe had suffered more economically after World War II for multiple reasons. Capital
depletion was seen everywhere after the war, with cities torn apart and there were bomb craters on
every street. Great Britain, inflation had increased rapidly and reached its peak following the war
along with France. The currency started to become worthless because of how crumbled the economy
had become. Even during the war, massive amounts of money were loaned from the United States to
the allies in Europe just to keep the war funded. As a result, many countries in Europe ended up in an
enormous amount of debt to America. This left millions of people having to live extremely hard and
rough in Europe. Luckily, with the help of the United States, Europe was able to become stable again
through the use of the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was created by George Marshall who was the
United States Secretary of the State and the idea was to help and support any European countries that
had fell victim to the war such as France for example. So, these countries would then receive currency
from the United States, which helped Europe extremely well and would have most likely fallen
economically if the U.S. did not aid them through the use of the Marshall Plan.
In post WWII Europe, one of the major factors that affected the economy by the war was the

The Between Modern And Modern Science

research are underway on how the teaching of communication techniques away from the source is
possible but still there is a clue on how the local language of communication in China has been taught

The Hawthorne Studies
Introduction
Hawthorne Studies began in 1924 until 1932 at the Western Electric, Hawthorne plant in Cicero,
Illinois, by Professor Elton Mayo. Initially, this study was originated to identify the conditions of
which would improve the working conditions for higher productivity. However, as time progressed, it
evolved and was used by managements across as a guide to restructuring their respective companies.
With Professor Elton Mayo from the Harvard Business School began a study of how the workers at
Western Electric behave. (Wickstrom, Bourke, 1986) Part of the reason that Western Electric was
chosen was due it was a large manufacturing company that consisted of about 40,000 workers with a
mixture of men and women.

Lastly, the workplace is a social system: The Hawthorne researchers came to view the workplace as a
social system made up of interdependent parts. This is reflected from the results of the tests from the
women in the relay assembly test room. This is where a group of six women were singled out from the
main assembly line and isolated in a room where the group of them assembled the products together.
After monitoring them, it was noted that productivity in the assembly room rose much higher than that
of the main assembly department. Reason being the women felt happier, more intimate and developed
a strong bond for each other while in the assembly room, and this resulted in wholehearted
spontaneous working attitudes and relationships resulting in significant rise in the results for the
assembly. (Sonnenfeld, 1985)
Findings from the Hawthorne studies emerged at the time when Frederick Taylor s Scientific
Management theory was in place. However, the findings from the Hawthorne studies, with some
realistic modifications to the individual scenarios and modernization, can still be applicable to the
managers of today, when used to handle staff in the various fields, even more than the requirements of
the initial industrial management.
From the Hawthorne studies, we can identify three

The Effect of Shale Gas on Global Warming and Climate Change and the Environment Global
warming is a very disputed issue due to the fact that in every situation, there are two sides to a story.
Some believe global warming is not an issue seeing as there have been trends in the past that indicate
that the world changes constantly and that it will once again come to its natural order. Like geologist
Charles Lyell once stated with his idea of uniformitarianism, that the Earth is shaped by the same
processes still in operation today. Also, James Hutton stated that, The future will resemble the past ,
meaning that the events happening today, have already occurred, therefore they will happen once

Shale is a soft, fine sedimentary rock that formed from consolidated mud or clay. It contains shale gas
that is trapped within the shale formations which are rich in petroleum and natural gas. Studies have
shown that 3.6% up to 7.9% of methane from shale gas escapes through venting and leaks into the
atmosphere over a lifetime of a well. Methane emissions are considered to be at least 30% higher in
concentration than conventional gas. That is, pools in which wells can be drilled so that oil and natural
gas flow naturally and can be pumped to the surface. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas with a
global warming potential that is far greater than that of carbon dioxide. Shale gas contributes
substantially to the greenhouse gas footprint on a shorter time scale, and results have shown that it
leaves a 20% greater footprint than coal. Natural gas is being used as a transitional fuel which allows
for further dependence on fossil fuels, yet reducing the green house gasses (GHG) when compared to
oil and coal. In the 1990 s the United States produced its oil and gas through the use of conventional
reservoirs, but in 2009, unconventional production took the lead. There is really not much of a
difference between conventional and unconventional gas, but they are described as a sponge and clay
production process. Gas is extracted far more easily though the use of conventional production, but in

They both got dressed and raced out to the hilltop above the field to watch them set up and see what
they both sensed was wrong. The clouds of the sky dropped in low so that they couldn t see. When

Orthodontic Research
The first idea of orthodontics has come when finger pressure manifested tooth movement. With the
development of this branch of dentistry, there is constant research to create appliances which can
move teeth ideally
This has led clinicians trying to specify many appliances able to move the teeth, most of them include
wires. Wires in many shapes, sizes, and materials (metallic alloys) are typically part of the
orthodontist s inventory.
Wires, and auxiliaries fabricated from wire (helical closed coiled and open coiled, uprighting, and
rotating springs) can make dental displacements through delivering force or simply through carry
force from one location to another within the dentofacial complex. It also may prevent unwanted tooth
movement.
Wires have a fundamental role in active and retentive orthodontic therapy. Wires may ... Show more

Transculturacion
The theory of transculturación was first imagined by Fernando Ortiz of Cuba in 1940. He had
dedicated his life studying his fellow Cubans and their way of life. The phenomenon of
transculturación can best be described as being expres(ando) las diferentes fases del proceso transitivo
de una cultura a otra, el proceso implica también necesariamente la pérdida o desarraigo de una
cultura precedente . In this essay I will be analysing the political changes in Haiti after the French
colonial days as described in Alejo Carpentier s novel El reino de este mundo . Because two strongly
distinctive and contrasting cultures are presented throughout this novel I will be analysing whether or

The Sleep Cycle
The sleeping cycle During sleep research, psychologists observed changes in people as they slept.
Different eye movements were observed. During a certain stage of sleep a person s eye suddenly
began to move rapidly back and forth when people were awakened during rapid eye movement or
REM they mentioned they were dreaming. Even though our eyes move during dream sleep our
muscles become paralyzed during this stage. Which prevent us from moving other areas of our body
such as legs, arms. Consciousness is different levels of awareness of one s thoughts and feelings. We
enter an altered state of consciousness every night when we go to sleep. Sleep consists of five different

gradually decrease and it becomes more difficult for you to be awakened stages (3and4) about 30 to

Intimate Encounter Essay
Intimate Encounter
I needed a weekend away from the all too humdrum existence of day to day living. I decided that a
good diversion might be to hike the Appalachian Trail for a weekend. After class on Friday, I ran to
my car so that I could begin this wonderful divergence from daily life. The parking lot at Carver s
Gap, my destination, finally came into view as I drove up US 19E. Across the road, a short wooden
fence separated me from my wonderful weekend of adventure. From the second I reached the parking
lot, I realized that this hike, a great way to escape from reality for a weekend, awaited me upon the
trail I saw dwindling in the distance.

The dirt path led me downward into secluded valleys and over open hills. Two miles into this
delightful experience, a small Adirondack named the Stan Murray shelter, stood as a resting point for
weary hikers. The Adirondack, a three sided shack like structure, blended into the surrounding brown
of the trees and surprised me as I came upon it. I stopped there for a short respite and then continued
my hike.
The next three miles were much as the first two had been, a walk through a colorful enclosed forest.
At the three mile point, a rough, wooden, weatherworn sign stated that the Over Mountain shelter lay
close by, and seeing as dusk had rapidly set upon me, I decided to spend the night there. Down a small
hill through an arch of trees, the Overmountain Shelter squatted in an open field. The trees abruptly
ended on my left and a large hillside presented itself to the sky. The hill, a wind tunnel during a
thunderstorm, seduced me with its lush green grass, but I did not so easily forsake the prospected
security of the shelter. The shelter, an old, weathered, abandoned barn squatted regally in the meadow,
as if ruling over the valley below it. As dusk deepened into night, I carried my sore but happy body
inside where I cooked a wondrous meal of pasta then swiftly passed into unconscious bliss.
As I learned when I awoke during the night to the roaring wind outside, I lay in the coziest place in the
barn,

Religion In Mahatma Gandhi
Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear. To
Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying, Where
there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this courage to
follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religion which takes no account of
practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5 25, 164). Religion to
Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and allowed religion to affect his daily
affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he
founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an
established political organization would have been directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However,
due to his fearlessness, even when faced with defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat
cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me. I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24,
218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was able to see change in India and change in the world.
Furthermore, because of his faith in God, Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated,
God saves me so long as He wants me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no
precautions on my part will save me ( Bapu s Letters to Mira, 91). Gandhi wasn t afraid,

Characteristics Of Pat Tillman
Amongst the qualities a hero should have, I would include determination, loyalty, courage,
perseverance, patience, focus, intrepidity and selflessness. This quote from Ricky Martin perfectly fits
Pat Tillman, past Army veteran and NFL player. Pat Tillman was born on November 6, 1976 in
Fremont, California. He went to Leland High School and played for their football. After he graduated
high school, Tillman went to Arizona State University for college and played for their football team as
well. Soon after he graduated, he got drafted into the NFL, playing for the Arizona Cardinals. In 2002
Tillman enlisted himself into the United States army to help fight after the 9/11 attacks. But he sadly
passed away because of friendly fire on April 22, 2004. Pat Tillman was a man with many amazing
qualities: determination, loyalty, and humble/selfless.
Pat Tillman is remembered as a man with many amazing qualities, but I think the one he remembered
most for is his determination. He showed this even when he was just a high school freshman because
after he was cut from the team, he said he would play and he didn t want to just play baseball and he
didn t. He ended up playing on the varsity football team for his high school. He also showed that he
was determined when anyone said he couldn t do something or he shouldn t do something, he did it
anyway and continued to do what he wanted. Tillman, even playing football, focussed on his
education because he wanted to graduate and ended up

Humans have been genetically modifying crops (GM crops) since the beginning of agriculture. From
domesticating wild grasses, which would become the modern staple grains of today, to breeding the
best seeds of fruit in order to produce a larger and sweeter yield. Dr. Nina V. Fedoroff, a biology
professor and ex science/technology advisor to the Secretary of State, does not deny the benefits of
GM crops in her article Engineering Food for All . Fedoroff provides credible and convincing
evidence for easing current strict federal regulation of GM crops. According to Fedoroff, the declining

her article Engineering Food for All. The word Engineering may relate to a scientific term, and the

structures her article by first providing the supporting facts, and then finishes with her two thesis

Essay about Dances With Wolves
Dances With Wolves
In his movie Dances With Wolves actor Kevin Costner tries to do away with any preconceived notions
that the viewer might have had about the Native American Indians being a savage and inhuman race.
He does this by first unraveling the mysteriousness of the Indians then he brings the viewer to a point
of connectedness with the Indians and their culture. We then come to a sincere appreciation for them
as human beings and individuals and find ourselves siding with them in matters of allegiance. This
movie accomplishes this goal with several tactics and strategies. As the story unfolds we follow the
life of John Dunbar (Kevin Costner) and take on his emotions and therefore come to the same
realizations that he does. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see that they are easily frightened at times like when Kicking Bird runs from the naked John who
is also just as shocked by the Indians presence however does not want his horse, Sisco, to be messed

and we understand how much trouble this has probably been for the Indians before. We see them as
being generous people when John is presented with a Buffalo skin from them as well as their kindness
in accepting his gifts. We also see how in John s eyes the Indians are developing personalities of their
own as individuals and not just a group of people.
The second thing that must be done in order for the movie to completely change our opinion of these
savages and bring our allegiances to them instead of the white settlers and army is that we must not
only overcome our fears and prejudices we must also now connect with them in such a way that we
feel bonded by friendship and love. The best way to accomplish this is through a feeling of belonging.
As John becomes more and more involved with the Indians we see more and more of the personalities
of the Indians themselves and we begin to see how human they really are. Now John begins to form
friendships with these Indians and therefore so do we. One example of this is John s friendship with
Kicking Bird. John and

Essay about Islam has Raised the Status of Women
The dowry, previously regarded as a bride price paid to the father, became a nuptial gift retained by
the wife as part of her personal property (Fanar). This quote sums up the transition of women from
being property to an individual person. Women used to be sold and purchased, but Islam raised the
status of the women within a society that never thought much of the female. In the past, certain
societies believed marriage was nothing more than a status symbol. Women were thought of
producing children and establishing a man s family tree. During pre Islamic Arabia, women had no
rights and were not considered equal members of society. They were given no respect, and discarded
when men grew tired of them. Women were considered lower than ... Show more content on

Islam grants woman equal rights to contract, to enterprise, to earn and possess independently. Her life,
her property, her honor are as sacred as those of man. If she commits any offense, her penalty is no
less or more than of man s in a similar case. If she is wronged or harmed, she gets due compensations
equal to what a man in her position would get (Qur an 2:178; 4:45, 92 93). The Qur an states that
women are given the right to participate in business and to own things independently, which is a very
important statement. This verse shows that women are considered independent from a man, and are
free to do as they please in an Islamic manner. Furthermore, it goes on to states if a women makes any
kind of mistake, its punishment will be of equal measure to a man. When it comes to work, women are
given a choice to work or not. Also, if they decide to work, their money is for them to keep and they
do not have to use it toward financial expenses (Badawi). Islam changed the status of women in
Arabia when it came to owning land and working. Before Islam was preached in Arabia, women were
not given a choice who they were to marry; usually ending up being forced into a marriage. They were
basically sold off to a suitor, and their previous family identity was stripped away from them. They
became dependent on their husband, and given very little chances at freedom. However, Islam aimed
to change the injustice by allowing women to have a choice in

Hurricane Katrina Simulation
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating disaster that has affected many people in New Orleans as well as
the surrounding areas. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people and damage over $100 billion (
Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of the
unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were
battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not only that,
the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing many to be
stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation
called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of
what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people
(government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they could finish the
exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was completed causing the simulation
to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane
victims was not yet finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key
transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation
were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to
help many in New Orleans. Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not
only FEMA, but every level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They
acted fast and accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had false
promises that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS ). Many people asked
FEMA for resources and help, but that turned down because they did not ask the right way ( Hale The

country. Hussein was the leader of Iraq for 24 years he had killed over 5,000 innocent people. Hussein

they both had the ability to kill a large number of people at one time, they also believed that their

worth any serious criminal charges (Military). The reason he said this was because the town was
suspected of slandering his presidency and not following his laws. Unlike Grendel people actually
believed the attack was actually justified since in the country of Iraq slandering your president is
against the law and is punishable by death. Later on it was found out that there was no evidence of any
crime being committed and Hussein was later charged for the attack. A difference between the two

justified until no evidence was found. And when Grendel would try to make an excuse for his attacks
nobody would really care and would see right through the excuse and say that it was just cold blooded
murder. Another way that Grendel and Hussein are similar is that after all their attacks they would go

  • 2. The Effects Of Athletic Participation On Academic Performance The purpose of the literature review was to determined the effects of athletic participation on academic performance and if there were differences between the male and female athletes of the Mennonite High School. In order to determine whether participating in sporting events have an impact on the student s academic performance, the researcher collected existing data during the sport season period, there the participants assessment grades (AG) were calculated. These scores were compared with the immediate post season average to see whether there was a significant difference between the scores received during and after participating in their various sporting activities. There were studies done that found that the participation of student athletes may not only have positive effects on their academic achievement but there may also be positive effects in other areas of their adolescent life. According to the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS), students who became involved in sports or extracurricular activities promote lifelong lessons in teamwork, self discipline; facilitate the emotional development of the youths. The National Federation of State High School uses several sources to support their claim that students who participate in activity programmes have better academic averages, better attendance records, a lower dropout rate and fewer discipline problems (NFHS, 2002, p.2). March (1992) found that students who participate in extracurricular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Uncertainty Reduction Theory Judith Osiughwu Comm theory 3720 Professor Dr. Fred Fitch Journal 2 Uncertainty reduction theory Firstly, Uncertainty reduction theory was written by Charles Berger, his theory focus on the way human predict and interact to others. His theory focused on two types of uncertainty and eight Atoms for uncertainty. According to Charles Uncertainty reduction theory is an increased knowledge of what kind of person another is, which provides an improved forecast of how a future interaction will turn out. In another word mean that communication is the key to form health relationship. As human we communicate to generally understanding one another and also reduction our uncertainty. I can apply uncertainty reduction theory to every aspect of my life; I can also apply uncertainty reduction theory to my love life, my first day at a new school, making new friends and meeting new people, new location, and I can also ... • 4. Jazz Messenger Art Blakey In the same way as other admired jazz artists, the drummer Art Blakey held tight sufficiently long to see his way to deal with music return into style. A main drummer of the post World War II bop style exemplified by Charlie Parker, Blakey was better known for his authority of his Jazz Messengers, one of the longest running and reliably superb gatherings in jazz. The street to incredible status was twisting, in any case. Shunning the vanguard, Blakey was overlooked by jazz faultfinders in the trial 1960s and disregarded by American groups of onlookers in the 1970s, when rock applied its hegemonic control over the matter of popular music. Not able to land a U.S. recording contract, he discharged various collections for European names in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Putting aside his neo bop style, which he spearheaded, Blakey took in band individuals whose tastes were unequivocally more pop than jazz. Throw Mangione s minimal known stay in the Messengers trumpet seat was maybe a definitive impression of the breakdown in the social concensus about the components of true jazz. Yet for Blakey afficianados, the 1970s have much to offer, as another re issue from Fantasy Records illustrates. Mission Eternal contains two full collections recorded by a heavenly Blakey band in March 1973 and initially discharged by the Prestige mark under the titles of Buhaina and Athenagin. A cut underneath Blakey s best recordings of the 1960s, these collections by and by demonstrate a familiarity with the cutting edge, a desire for Latin beats and roused exhibitions by solid sidemen. Cedar Walton stays the gathering on piano and contributes some solid organizations, outstandingly Mission Eternal. Carter Jefferson, an innovative saxophonist who merits more extensive thankfulness, strikes a decent harmony between constancy to models and the unavoidable quest for new sounds. His performance on Gertrude s Bounce is brutish yet melodic. Vocalist Jon Hendricks, who joins the gathering on two cuts, is hypnotizing on the jazz standard Moanin and spooky on Along Came ... • 5. Mapp V. Ohio Case The Mapp v Ohio case originated in Ohio when police forced their way into Dollree Mapp s house without a search warrant. The police went into the house because Dollree was suspected to be harboring a bomber. The police did not find the suspect but found in the basement pictures that were obscene. She was convicted in an Ohio court. She argued her 4th amendment rights were violated during the search by the police. Mapp eventually took her appeal to United States supreme court. The evidence obtained at Mapps house was illegal evidence and was arrested for it. The problem with this case is Dollree s 4th amendment was violated by the police. • 6. A Study On The Healthcare Field From an early age, I gained much knowledge about the healthcare field. My younger brother was diagnosed with Autism, Psychosis, and Asperger. My mother was diagnosed with depression, anxiety disorder, diabetes and hyper blood tension. Due to my mom not being educated, she cannot read or write in Spanish or English. I was forced to learn everything in the healthcare field. I quickly became intrigued of each specialized field when I took my family to their doctors appointments. A few qualities I looked for when searching for new physician was affordability, patient satisfaction, and a well organized practice. Not everyone has affordable insurance, or receives the best quality of care due to poor organized facilities. My true passion towards the healthcare field arose when I started on my career in the financial department. I knew that I wanted to help a group of people and the healthcare facilities to create affordable and quality care. As the next health administrative leader I want to make a difference by offering a well managed healthcare facility, providing effective quality care, and high patient satisfaction to all healthcare facilities. In my current role as a financial counselor, I am exposed to several diverse backgrounds, insurances, and medical procedures. Each day I learn something new and met new patients that hold an interesting story. • 8. Data Anonymization Essay 1. INTRODUCTION Data in its original shape contains sensitive information about individuals, and publishing such data will breach individual privacy. The recent practice in data publishing relies mainly on rules and guidelines as to what kinds of data can be published and on agreements on the use of published data. This approach may lead to extreme data distortion or inadequate protection. Privacy preserving data publishing provides methods and tools for publishing useful information and also for preserving data privacy. Privacy preserving data publishing was intended to construct published tables in a way that allows systematic tasks (e.g., aggregate query answering, data mining) over the published data and also for protecting the privacy of individual s data. Privacy preserving data mining refers to the area of data mining that seeks to preserve the sensitive information from unsolicited or unendorsed disclo¬sure. The major objective of privacy preserving data mining is to construct the algorithms for modifying the original data in various ways, so that the confidential data and knowledge remain confidential even after the mining process. Data anonymization is the process of obscuring published data to prevent the identification of the key information. There are two approaches known as generalization and suppression used in the anonymization process. Generalization is the process of replacing less specific value with the higher value. • 9. The Little Rock Crisis Essay The Little Rock Crisis Research Paper Imagine for a moment being put in the president s shoes and having to make a decision that affects the whole country. Imagine that the decision you made is not very popular and that you get criticized and scoffed at for it. During the term of each president, there are many difficult decisions that must be made. Making these types of decisions may be difficult, but they are necessary to the benefit of the country. President Eisenhower was faced with a very difficult decision. While facing his decision he wanted to uphold the Constitution and the laws, but also avoid a difficult confrontation with people who had very high emotions. Eisenhower did not want to be criticized by those who felt he did not ensure civil rights, as well as those who believed he had gone too far in asserting federal power over the states. The difficult decision that Eisenhower faced to send in Federal Troops to Little Rock, Arkansas showed his support for the Constitution, and for the protection of the people, even though it was not popular and went against his own personal beliefs. History In the South, complications arose over the separation of Negro and white students in schools. In 1953, President Eisenhower had appointed former California Governor Earl Warren to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The next year, the Supreme Court made its historic decision declaring the separation of racial groups in school unconstitutional (Cannon, 1990, p. 205). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hitler denied this request and Spain stayed out of the war. Franco tried to become completely neutral in the war in 1943 but it was too late, Spain was invested too deeply with the Axis Powers and gained enemies. The west already viewed Franco as a fascist and did not support him. Franco tried to change this by changing the name of The State Party to the State Movement to appear as though he was not fascist. The higher the processor rate, the faster in which a processor can process information and thus the quicker it will be. In some instances, individuals boost clock speed by overclocking, a term used to push the clock speed beyond the manufacturers recommendation. This is common for those who use their computers for gaming. However, doing so will void the warranty and can overheat the CPU. Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2), stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. When there is Level 3 (L3) cache, L3 cache will be on a separate chip and L1 and L2 will be built onto the CPU. More cache memory will allow a processor to be more powerful. RAM is known as Random Access Memory. This is the temporary memory space for a computer. The more RAM you have the more programs you can have operating at the same time. It temporarily houses the instructions and information the computer is currently using but only does so when the computer on. When the power is off, any data on the RAM is wiped clean. After monitoring them, it was noted that productivity in the assembly room rose much higher than that of the main assembly department. Methane emissions are considered to be at least 30% higher in concentration than conventional gas. • 29. Intimate Encounter Essay Intimate Encounter I needed a weekend away from the all too humdrum existence of day to day living. I decided that a good diversion might be to hike the Appalachian Trail for a weekend. After class on Friday, I ran to my car so that I could begin this wonderful divergence from daily life. The parking lot at Carver s Gap, my destination, finally came into view as I drove up US 19E. Across the road, a short wooden fence separated me from my wonderful weekend of adventure. From the second I reached the parking lot, I realized that this hike, a great way to escape from reality for a weekend, awaited me upon the trail I saw dwindling in the distance. Due to my college freshman regimen of a bad diet and no exercise, the first bald I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dirt path led me downward into secluded valleys and over open hills. Two miles into this delightful experience, a small Adirondack named the Stan Murray shelter, stood as a resting point for weary hikers. The Adirondack, a three sided shack like structure, blended into the surrounding brown of the trees and surprised me as I came upon it. I stopped there for a short respite and then continued my hike. The next three miles were much as the first two had been, a walk through a colorful enclosed forest. At the three mile point, a rough, wooden, weatherworn sign stated that the Over Mountain shelter lay close by, and seeing as dusk had rapidly set upon me, I decided to spend the night there. Down a small hill through an arch of trees, the Overmountain Shelter squatted in an open field. The trees abruptly ended on my left and a large hillside presented itself to the sky. The hill, a wind tunnel during a thunderstorm, seduced me with its lush green grass, but I did not so easily forsake the prospected security of the shelter. The shelter, an old, weathered, abandoned barn squatted regally in the meadow, as if ruling over the valley below it. As dusk deepened into night, I carried my sore but happy body inside where I cooked a wondrous meal of pasta then swiftly passed into unconscious bliss. As I learned when I awoke during the night to the roaring wind outside, I lay in the coziest place in the barn, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Religion In Mahatma Gandhi Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear. To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying, Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this courage to follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religion which takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5 25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me. I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore, because of his faith in God, Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated, God saves me so long as He wants me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me ( Bapu s Letters to Mira, 91). Gandhi wasn t afraid, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Characteristics Of Pat Tillman Amongst the qualities a hero should have, I would include determination, loyalty, courage, perseverance, patience, focus, intrepidity and selflessness. This quote from Ricky Martin perfectly fits Pat Tillman, past Army veteran and NFL player. Pat Tillman was born on November 6, 1976 in Fremont, California. He went to Leland High School and played for their football. After he graduated high school, Tillman went to Arizona State University for college and played for their football team as well. Soon after he graduated, he got drafted into the NFL, playing for the Arizona Cardinals. In 2002 Tillman enlisted himself into the United States army to help fight after the 9/11 attacks. But he sadly passed away because of friendly fire on April 22, 2004. Pat Tillman was a man with many amazing qualities: determination, loyalty, and humble/selfless. Pat Tillman is remembered as a man with many amazing qualities, but I think the one he remembered most for is his determination. He showed this even when he was just a high school freshman because after he was cut from the team, he said he would play and he didn t want to just play baseball and he didn t. He ended up playing on the varsity football team for his high school. He also showed that he was determined when anyone said he couldn t do something or he shouldn t do something, he did it anyway and continued to do what he wanted. He does this by first unraveling the mysteriousness of the Indians then he brings the viewer to a point of connectedness with the Indians and their culture. We then come to a sincere appreciation for them as human beings and individuals and find ourselves siding with them in matters of allegiance. Essay about Islam has Raised the Status of Women The dowry, previously regarded as a bride price paid to the father, became a nuptial gift retained by the wife as part of her personal property (Fanar). This quote sums up the transition of women from being property to an individual person. Women used to be sold and purchased, but Islam raised the status of the women within a society that never thought much of the female. In the past, certain societies believed marriage was nothing more than a status symbol. Women were thought of producing children and establishing a man s family tree. During pre Islamic Arabia, women had no rights and were not considered equal members of society. They were given no respect, and discarded when men grew tired of them. If she is wronged or harmed, she gets due compensations equal to what a man in her position would get (Qur an 2:178; 4:45, 92 93). The Qur an states that women are given the right to participate in business and to own things independently, which is a very important statement. This verse shows that women are considered independent from a man, and are free to do as they please in an Islamic manner. The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of the unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not only that, the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing many to be stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people (government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they could finish the exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was completed causing the simulation to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane victims was not yet finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to help many in New Orleans. Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not only FEMA, but every level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They acted fast and accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had false promises that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS ).
