Munchausen Syndrome Research Paper
Munchausen Syndrome is considered a mental illness because it is associated with emotional
difficulties. Munchausen Syndrome is one of the most severe types of factitious disorders. This mental
illness is named after Baron Von Munchausen. The exact cause of Munchausen Syndrome is not

The Outsiders By S. E Hinton Essay
Yves Belance 28 Nov 2016 V. Minchener Enc11 Research Paper The novel and film, The Outsiders by
S. E Hinton, can be composed based on symbols, imagery, characters, and chronology. The Outsiders
is a novel and a movie. The novel was written by Susan Eloise Hinton, in 1965, where it took place in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. After the book was published the movie, The Outsiders was produced in 1983
directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The author has a great sense of imagery. Ponyboy the narrator of
the story used much imagery in chapter one in the novel to bring his brother and friends who are also
Greasers to life. Ponyboy s big brother, Darry who had eyes that are like two pieces of pale blue green
ice letting the reader know that Darry is the serious and determined person. In addition with broad
shoulders , muscular and six two feet height , from the description, the reader can picture Darry as an
athlete from the physical appearance. Ponyboy uses imagery on his second older brother Sodapop His
eyes are dark brown lively, dancing recklessly laughing eyes that can be gentle and sympathetic one
moment and blazing with anger the next . The descriptions gave Sodapop an image that signified
effervescent and a slight of anger but kind. Dally one of Ponyboy friends and a member of the
Greasers, has eyes that are blue, blazing ice, and cold let the reader know that Dallas heart if filled
with rage . There wasn t much imagery that can describe Steve Randler completely. Ponyboy

How Is Sister Carrie Alike
I chose to read Sister Carrie because I thought I could relate to it, Carrie was a small town girl who
left her home to chase her dreams. The novel opens with Carrie on a train leaving her home, heading
to Chicago. Here she meets Drouet, who will be a large part of the novel. Carrie immediately looks for
work when she arrives, and is unsuccessful for a long time until she finds a low paying job at a shoe
factory with awful working conditions. Drouet and Carrie s relationship begins when he tells Carrie to
stop working, and gives her $20 and takes her places. Drouet introduces Carrie to the rich people s
lifestyle, and Carrie becomes involved in theater, and finds that she has a natural talent and love for it.

Advertisements Exploiting Children
Are current practises of advertising to children exploitative? What restrictions should be placed on
advertising to children?
Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for
children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The
growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have
resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children
(Wilcox et al. 2004). It is estimated that advertisers spend more than $12 billion a year on the youth
market with more than 40,000 commercials each year. The current practises of advertising to young
children definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be
purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development.
Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more
television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has
been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag
factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the
observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and
Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the
initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents
behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox
et al. 2004).
Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of
the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising
healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at
children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). The Australian
Communications and Media Authority (2007) detailed the

The Vision And Mission Statement To A Company Is As Important
The vision and mission statement to a company is as important as food and water to a person. It is all
about survival. Companies strive every day to satisfy customers, while making a a profit. Therefore,
management should not only write a mission and vision statement, but it should be one that is
communicated with clarity that reveals the company s present business and purpose as well as its
future. The purpose of this writing is to discuss the mission and vision statements of Southwest

Subsequently, I have visited with most of the other airlines in the Memphis area. One day while
googling for a cheap last minute flight, I found an interesting deal entitled wanna getaway on the
Southwest Airlines website. Therefore, for the last few years, I have traveled with this airline.
A snapshot of Southwest s website is an understatement of the company s accomplishments. For
example, Thompson and Gamble (2010), revealed that Southwest Airlines lead the market for
domestic travel despite the profit losses from 1980 to 2009. Moreover, they share Southwest s original
marketing plans that superseded media ads. In 1971, this attention getting scheme was used to hire
ladies with the Raquel Welch look: the company hired long legend beauties with sparkling
personalities, dressed in hot pants and white boots. Their marketing strategies changed drastically
from 1970 to 1973, which was remarkable for that season. However, technology, Facebook, Twitter
and the internet allow society to scrutinize websites which include a vision and mission statements.
Southwest s vision statement is broad and generic, while there are some positives, there are some
shortcomings as well. It lacks a clear path as to the company s future; all airlines vision is to move
cargo: people and things. Nonetheless, it is feasible; it is

Annotated Bibliography Analysis
The annotated bibliography is the second of four main projects in this writing course. I have never
done an annotated bibliography before, so this was a learning experience. The expectations for myself
on this assignment was to find good credible sources from the URI libraries database and write
thorough summaries on the main points from each of them. I met most of the expectations where I
explained the source material well and why it correlates to the argument. I formatted the citations well.
I think one thing i should have done better to fulfill the expectations completely is to find better
sources that contain data and statistics to support an argument. I learned from this project that credible
sources are important and that for an annotations

No not everyone s planaria grew back in the same way. Two groups had full regeneration, seven
groups had some regeneration and one group had a mass death. My planaria was in the majority of
regeneration. Our result was one new planaria. Some of the things that might have affected the group
with the mass death is not having a clean blade to cut the planaria with or there being too much light
or their water being too cold because they were near an open window. For the groups that had full
regeneration their water temperature was not to warm and not too cold. Their blades could have had
remnants of other planaria but the planaria on the blade were healthy. The planaria that only

Today s Competitive Postal Service
Running Head: Today s Competitive Postal Service 2 The United States Postal Service began
operations in 1971 following the passing of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. In the decades that
have followed, the Postal Service has tried to remain relevant in a competitive business environment.
In order to be successful at this, a revamping of the agency was necessary in order to keep up with
advances in technology used by business and individuals, and to address an overall change in the
public attitude regarding old fashioned mail services. This transformation of the Postal Service has
been successful because of progressive management and effective leadership. Management and
leadership are not the same thing, however they are interrelated and complementary. Shafritz, Russell
and Borick (2010, pp. 361 362) state, Leadership is the exercise of authority, whether formal or
informal in directing and coordinating the work of others. Management involves power (usually
formal authority) ...with the power of management comes responsibility and accountability for the use
of organizational resources. In order be transformed, the Postal Service needed to implement new
management ideas combined with the pioneering concepts of new leadership. The power and authority
to implement new ideas and provide innovative leadership is held by the 11 member Board of
Governors of the Postal Service. According to The United States Postal Service website, As

Origin Of A Geisha Essay
The Japanese term geisha literally means person of art as they were known as entertainers from the
16th century. The Japanese view geisha as professional entertainers. They are also known as geigi or
geiko. However, the majority of the world perceive them as white faced, red lipped prostitutes that
wear their hair in a bun. Geisha are much more than women with too much makeup, they are an
important part of the traditional Japanese social life. Even today, they are the definition of beauty and
grace. Geisha are not prostitutes reflected in their history, appearance, skills and role. The geisha s first
appearance was during the Edo Period in the 1600 s, and they were men. These geisha were a type of

The first known female geisha was a performer named Kikuya found in 1750 in the Fukigawa region,
who was at first a prostitute. She was skilled in singing and played the shamisen, a traditional
Japanese three stringed musical instrument. Kikuya was successful as a female geisha, causing a
widespread of women to only be entertainers rather than prostitutes. Due to the origin of female
geisha, even though at first they were prostitutes, they became only professional entertainers later on.
These women give off the illusion of female perfection. Their makeup, hair, clothing, and manner
gives off the idea of fantasy. They are elegantly dressed in traditional kimonos that show off their
necklines. This is considered to be the most sensual part of a woman in Japanese culture. Kimonos
have long sleeves and a short obi tied in a simple knot. They wore wooden geta clogs on their feet or

hidden under a wig since they did not style their real hair. A geisha also wears white makeup with red

However, it is highly likely that the company s facilities are to outmoted to produce new alpaca

Persuasive Essay On Why Hockey Is Important
I think it is important to hockey because it will keep the fans entertained and the players will have fun.
It also provides a job to certain people who are willing to get hurt for their team. We need it in the
sport so it would be more entertaining for us to watch and other reasons. The whole point of fighting
in hockey is to make it more interesting then all of the other sports. It keep their players and fans on
their feet when the see one happening because it is the most exciting part about the sport. That s why
teams hire people to just fight for the team and are willing to get a penalty for it as well. Without
fighting the sport would not be the same it would be a lot more entertaining for the fans to watch
because there would be no more contact. The coaches of the teams will pay the people getting in fights
non stop a lot of money ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hockey is one of the only sports that will let contact like football or any other sports like those that
will have people hitting others for the protection of others. In hockey it three periods instead of half
and it has timed penalties instead of yards.
I think we should allow fighting in hockey because it will make it the most unique sport out there. The
sport has ups and downs like people getting sent to the hospital because of how bad the fights get but
that is what keeps us into the sport even though someone is really hurt but he did it for his fans and for
protecting his team. The fighting is called Fisticuffs it is so that the refs and couched will not interfere
with the fighting and so they can just fight out their differences so that the game can go on. The two
players that are fighting will get in some sort of trouble they might not be able to play some of the
next game because their couches might not let them until they think they are ready to play without

Media Discrimination In The Media
1. Title IX signed into law on June 23rd, 1972 by President Richard M. Nixon states that no person in
the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits
of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal
financial assistance. (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 44 Fed. Reg. at 71413). Since
this law was enacted we have seen a dramatic increase in female sports participation. Tile IX has had a
positive impact on female athletes as females now make up over 40% of college athletes... compared
to two percent before the time of the legislation (Staurowsky Weight, 2001, Pg. 190). Although Title
IX has increased participation of female athletes it has not aided in achieving equality for women and
girls in sports. I believe the barriers that prevent equality for female athletes can be broken down into
two categories media coverage, and public perception. The media has majority control over what the
public believes is important and most recently female athletes received 1.6% of television coverage,
4.9% of magazine covers, and only 9.7% of featured sports articles (Fink, 2015). Not only do female
athletes not get enough media coverage, but when they do the focus is often on their physical
appearance, femininity, and/ or heterosexuality (Fink, 2015, Pg. 331). This coverage creates a negative
public perception toward female athletes. Thus the public believes that sports

The Disney Princess In Disney
Disney princesses have always been seen in the public eye as dependent on their prince charming.
When thinking about the very first princesses Disney put on the screen, such as Snow white,
Cinderella, sleeping beauty and so on, they have never been thought of as very strong or independent
women. In most of the early Disney princess movies, the underlying theme is that the princess is
always in search of or waiting to be rescued by the male character. With, this is one of the most
prominent reasons why Orenstein did not want her daughter listening to the snow white tale. She did
not want to expose her daughter to thinking that the traits or characteristics that the princesses display
were how women should act or be represented. Orenstein had several reservations when it came to her
daughter learning about snow white and the other Disney princess. In the text, it talked about when her
daughter was on the floor laying down waiting for her prince to come and give her the kiss that would
save her. This was one of the reasons Orenstein didn t choose to tell her about show white, she thought
that her daughter did not need to wait on any male figure to come save her and that she could be her
own savor. Snow white, as many of the other princesses, depended on their prince to come save them.
For example, when she ate the apple, she was to wait for the prince to wake her up from her dream
instead of depending herself. Another reason why she did not want to expose her daughter to

Political Socialization Is A Particular Type Of Political...
Political Socialization is a particular type of political learning where people develop the attitudes,
values, beliefs, opinions and behaviors that are conducive to becoming a good citizen in their country.
With political socialization there are many factors that are present when these views are formed, many
are very apparent like historical events, and a clear effect such as gender, race, and socio economics
status. My own political views were formed the same way as everybody else were.
Through the first people I came to know, which were my parents. My parents taught me what the
difference between a democrat and a republican were, what role the president plays in our
government, and about our legislative branches which was based around their own views. When
growing up my parents encouraged self respect and individuality so, this taught me to think about
things own my own and how I felt about them. They also taught me how to conduct myself on a day
to day basis. Being taught these things by my parents made me a very open minded person and this
carries over strongly into how I view politics. I tend to focus on the single issues that are on the
forefront and not on which party is proposing them.
This process could be perceived as Good because of the many factors
That are involved in our political culture. Family, education, mass media, and religion are just a few of

Describe The Characters Of Abraham Lincoln
1. Describe the character BOOTH in your own words as though we were writing them on the board.
Booth is a black man in his 30 s that is looking to settle down with Grace. Booth is the younger
brother of Lincoln that struggles to make any income. He is a good looking man, or at least he
portrays himself to be, that is somewhat dirty and unkempt due to the fact that he does not have the
money to afford running water. Usually he wears average streets clothes, maybe some rugged jeans
and a worn shirt, but from time to time he will wear a nice suit and shoes that he has stolen from a
department store. For the most part, Booth is an average sized man that has a rugged outer appearance
due to having to handle his own on the streets in the card game business.
2. Describe the character LINCOLN in your own words as though we were writing them on the board.
Lincoln is a black man in his late 30 s that is the older brother of Booth. Lincoln is the brother that
makes the income of the two by acting as Abraham Lincoln. Since he plays Abe he must be a tall kind
of slender man, but no facial hair because he has to wear a fake beard. He also has a dirty unkempt
look about him because he neither has running water, resides in the same place as his brother. He is
somewhat older looking than Booth, and has an aged face and short hair that is slowly thinning over
the years due to having to step in as the father for Booth. Lincoln took on all responsibility for Booth

1.1 Background of the study Malnutrition can either be under nutrition or over nutrition. All these are
mentioned in the research but more attention is given to the latter. Under nutrition is a state resulting
from intake of inadequate amount of nutrients, the nutrients commonly affected are protein and energy
sources known as protein energy malnutrition (PEM),( AMREF training manual 1990).
World Health Organization (WHO) defines malnutrition as the cellular imbalance between supply of
nutrients and energy and the body demand for them to ensure growth, maintenance and functions.

Theme Of Blindness In Oedipus The King
Greek literature has been known to utilize dramatic irony, which allows the character s motives clear
to the audience although unknown to the main character itself. Sophocles introduces the Greek tragedy
Oedipus the King using this literary technique moving on to develop the concept of blindness and
sight. In fact, this text deals with the idea of blindness and sight revealed by a character both literally
and figuratively. The play introduces the Greek city state called Thebes, which is suffering a great
plague causing the state to fall apart. A prophecy has been set to recover the plaque by which King
Oedipus must find the killer of Laius, his predecessor. Throughout the play, Sophocles displays an
overarching question of which characters are considered blind, one who remains blind and ignorant to
the truth or one who is depleted of sight embracing the certainty of the circumstances. Based on
Oedipus s motivations, character development, and interactions over the course of the play, Sophocles
develops the theme that when power and ignorance camouflage the truth, agony and despair will
follow as the truth unfolds.
In the starting of the play, Sophocles introduces Oedipus possessing great power and reputation
therefore leading him to be unaware of his truth. For example, when Oedipus interacts with Teiresias,
the blind prophet, Oedipus says,
Oh I ll let loose, I have such Fury in me now I see it all. You helped hatch the plot, you did the work,
yes, short of killing him

The Waking Poem By Theodore Roethke
Through his life affirming poem, The Waking, Theodore Roethke explores the cycle of life using life
and death as metaphors to describe how we come to a more enlightened state of being. From a primary
reading of his poem The Waking, only a simple understanding of the poem is attainable, as Roethke
does not give his work a defined setting or subject. In addition, it seems that the poem is very
simplistic and does not require much attention to understand or interpret. However, upon revisiting the
poem multiple times, it can be inferred that Roethke intentionally uses various paradoxes and nature
imagery to symbolize aspects of life in order to help the reader understand his outlook on how to
endure life and in order to evoke and develop the theme of the cyclical pattern of life.
The title examines the transition from sleep to wakefulness as a state of mind that is representative of
both states yet very different from each. The definitive article, The, suggests a fixed and real thing;
meanwhile, the gerund Waking, hints towards a continuous process. From an initial reading, anyone
can see that Roethke repeats the same lines over and over again. However, the specific rhyme scheme
Roethke utilizes in addition to the repetitive lines is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

some natural phenomena occur, thus Roethke uses these symbols to enhance the enigmatic aspect of
his poem. He wants his audience to appreciate and accept the tree and its enigmatic nature rather than

For example, in each game someone doesn t always get a broken leg but everyone is sore within the
next few hours. There are different extremities as to how one can get hurt, meaning wherever you get
hurt (upper or lower body) determines if it is a lower or upper extremity injury.. First of all, there are
the lower extremities which vary in seriousness but all deal with the lower body. In this category,
strains and sprains, cartilage tears and ACL sprains, and fractures and contusions are all taken care of
differently. For example, whilst ACL sprains are mostly very serious to athletes and can require
surgery, strains are in the same exact category yet never require surgery. Following are the Overuse
Lower Extremity Injuries which have more to do with how much an athlete works then what happens
in game. Shin Splints, Patellar Tendinitis (knee pain), and Achilles Tendinitis (ankle pain) are all very
common especially in high schools where practices occur almost daily and as a result, bones and
muscles are overused. Stress added onto an athlete because of overwork can cause what are called
Stress Fractures which is when bones become weak from overuse (for doctors, it is often puzzling to

Descriptive Essay On Sighing Trees
The Sighing Trees The second of two back doors is white with black accents and a big window in the
top half. As you push the door open you hear an array of screeches and clicks. Don t let the dog out!
Mother shouts before you walk out the door. Closing itself when you let go of it, the door shuts with a
slam. You gently set your foot down onto the step of the small, cement, back porch and your rainboot
makes a thwip sound. Stepping off of the cement onto decorative stones, triangular and jagged, then
onto the ground, you begin to acclimate to the temperature. Each step makes the same soft thunk as
the first you heard. The shadow of the overhanging roof lets go of its grip on you and your own
shadow appears. You feel the warmth of the summer sun on your skin, its rays kissing your rosy red
cheeks. Then you begin to notice the sound of the grass, brushing against the bottom of your blue
rainboots, and the crunching of acorns and twigs underfoot. Crunch. Pop. Crack. A familiar sound.
Your attention turns slightly to your right where you find there is a small, dirt path, barely noticeable
behind the fingers of the shrubs and saplings on either side of it. Pushing aside some of the leafy,
pliable branches in your way, you start down the path. Your lungs fill with a rich, earthy smell. A good
smell. It s the smell of mother nature s construction and destruction of life. Beams of golden, white,
and green light shine through the canopy of needles and leaves above. Spots of

Environmental Changes In Lord Of The Flies
People are subject to change their way of life when their environment changes. The novel Lord of the
Flies is written by William Golding. The novel about a group of british boys who get trapped on an
island during a time over. Over the course of time they spend on the island some of the boys go into a
savage state of mind. However some had balance between savagery and civilization. Throughout the
novel Golding reveals that humans are conditioned by their environment to behave in either moral, or
immoral ways. Ralph illustrates that humans personalities can change because of the environment they
are in. When Ralph joins one of the tribes dances, his savagery takes over when, Ralph, carried away
by a sudden thick excitement, grabbed Eric s spear and jabbed at Robert with it (114). This proves that
when someone s environment changes so does their personality. It displays that even the kindest of
people can succumb to the dark side. However, when the naval officer comes to rescue the boys Ralph
began to, Ralph wept for end of innocence, the darkness of a man s heart... (202). This reveals that

the boys immediately give up Ralph s hiding spot, You re sure he meant in there . The twin moaned

Copyright Infringement Of The Happy Birthday Song, Along...
Copyright is set out to protect the original artists creative work from imitations for a limited time, until
it enters the Public Domain. Creators may view this as a much needed law to prevent infringement,
which grants the lawful artist the rights to their respective work. However, continuing this practice is
redundant as copyright does not accomplish what it has been set out to do. The Blurred Lines Case is
used to convey how the Lay Listener Test fails to determine copyright infringement. Adele s
plagiarism allegation is reviewed to show the copies of other work, suggesting that copyright cannot
determine who holds original authorship. The invalid copyright of The Happy Birthday Song, along

This showed that jurors were unable to determine if songs were guilty of copyright infringement; since
a large majority of Jurors (84.8%) wrongfully stated that the original and the copied song were
different in composition.
Elements of a Civil Copyright Infringement Claim consists of proving Ownership of a Valid
Copyright, Actual Copying, and Misappropriation. Actual Copying is proven through direct or indirect
evidence that shows a striking similarity between the two works. In the Blurred Lines Case, indirect
evidence was used in proving music recording s two copyright protections were infringement upon:
(1) a copyright in the underlying composition and (2) a copyright in the sound recording. This is
problematic as Blurred Lines did not infringe on the Actual Copying claim; jurors confused the
underlying composition and sound recording for style, when style is not protectable copyright for
music recordings. Copyright fails to determine composition and sound recordings in a Lay Listener
Test, and give Thicke and William s exclusive rights to their respective creations, illustrating how
copyright is unreliable.
Copyright law encourages the creation of original creative work. Yet, creation requires influence. It is
not realistic to say that a song can be completely original, containing innovating composition and
sound recording. Artists gain influence from other artists, who have adopted the style of the

Trevor Nunn s Oklahoma !
Oklahoma! by Trevor Nunn is a romantic musical that revolves around two characters, Curly (played
by Hugh Jackman) and Laurey (played by Josefina Gabrielle), who are not as expressive about their
love for one another as they should be. The setting of Oklahoma! occurs during the development of
the west in the state of Oklahoma. Furthermore, as the story progresses, both Curly and Laurey remain
distant from one another and try to provoke jealousy, in order to make the other admit their love.
However, both Laurey and Curly indirectly cause harm to many individuals around, by provoking
jealousy. One specific character, Jud (played by Shuler Hensley), ends up entangled in both Curly and

The theme revolves around the idea that if one does not express their true feelings and remain true to
themselves, consequences could ensue that may involve others who had nothing to do with their issues
in the first place. This theme could be derived from the inciting incident, the rising action and the
climax. The inciting incident occurs due to the fact that Laurey chooses Jud over Curley in order to
see how he would react. This example remains true to the theme since jealousy is the main force
driving Laurey to commit to her actions, all the while remaining in denial of actually liking Jud.
Moreover, Curley, being jealous of Jud, decides to pay him a visit which causes a commotion and a
worsens the relationship between the two characters. Furthermore, this theme is at its peak relevancy
when Laurey has her dream sequence. In Laurey s dream sequence, it is obvious that she has feelings
for Curley, however, since she chooses to remain in denial and pursues the act of making Curley
jealous, her dream sequence takes a turn for the worst. As her [Laurey] dream sequence progresses,
she starts having visions of being raped and begins to see Curley being hurt by Jud, thus show her how
her childish acts have hurt others and herself included. By leading Jud to believe that she has feelings
for him, he begins to develop great feelings for her, therefore, at the climax of the play, Jud returns for
Curley and Laurey s wedding in order to kill Curley, however, it is Jud that dies in the end. The
consequences of Laurey remaining in denial and being jealous, led to her almost being raped and the
death of Jud. One could also argue that it was Jud s jealousy of Curley that led to his

The Importance Of Admission And Distribution Systems
In order to sustain high plant availability and at the same time meet the cost and regulatory
requirements, it was contended that appropriate maintenance strategies need to be integrated with
other management functions (Nakajima,1989). The plant must always be in the optimum operation
condition to improve its availability and reliability in the network. This requires that equipment design
ensures maintainability so as to support maintenance practices (Eti, 2006). If maintainability is
achieved then organizational performance would be enhanced because production per unit (Kwhr) of
electricity would reduce. Previous studies indicated that maintenance and its relationship with
equipment availability revealed that preventive maintenance for ... Show more content on

many definitions of competence. Lucia Lepsinger (1999) defined competence as knowledge, skills,
and attitudes that affect a major part of one s job. The competence of human resources in maintenance
is considered very important in a successful maintenance program (Nakajima,1988; Chalazae et al,
2004; Kelly, 2006). A good manager must always admit a maintenance problem and he/she should
actively pursue a solution for the problem. Kumar et al argue that by adding additional categories for
measuring human factors like motivation to traditional maintenance performance measurements, the
uniqueness of the maintenance performance measurements will be increased. The other factor that
affects the electricity network performance like in Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi is the
operation efficiency of the equipment. Involvement of operators in maintenance can enhance the
efficiency of the equipment because they can attend to the equipment minor failures or defects to the
equipment in time before serious problems develop (Labib,1998). Most researchers in the power
industries have argued that it is the timely availability of spares that must be considered to be the most

Papyrus Scrolls Of The Ancient World
Have you ever wanted to know more about the history of papyrus scrolls of the ancient world? Well,
you have come to the right place. This post will provide you with an overview that will leave you with
a general idea on the different aspects of the scroll from production to uses to importance.
Introduction to the Scroll
A scroll was a roll constructed of material that ranged from papyrus to parchment. However, the
material taken from a papyrus plant predominately composed the scrolls of the ancient world. Since
3000 BC, the plant was native only to Egypt and considered the major distributor to the rest of the
Mediterranean world. On the other hand, when the papyrus plant was no longer cultivated as writing

The quality was measured by fineness, firmness, whiteness, smoothness, and variation in breadth. The
difference in quality of papyrus allowed the variants to be used for different things. The different
grade of papyrus stemmed from the different parts of the plant being used and where the sheets were
manufactured. For example, the heretic grade came from the center of the plant and was mostly used
for religious texts. The amphitheatric grade originated from the name of its manufacture place. The
manufacture place was in Rome ran by Fannius, who was a grammarian. He, in order to make better
quality papyrus, added a third layer, making it finer. The saitic grade of papyrus was eponymous with
the city where the papyrus was manufactured and consisted mainly of scraps, making it felt like bark.
The taenotic papyrus was made from papyrus that was near the outside skin and was not sold by its
quality, but rather by its weight. The emporitic papyrus was useless as writing material so it was used
for envelopes or merchandise wrapping paper by dealers. From antiquity, around 3000 scrolls survived
with texts ranging from treaties to medical knowledge to classical texts. The text was arranged into
columns. A vast majority of the papyri was literary in that they contained epics, dramas, prose, and
history. However, there were also commentaries, grammatical treatises, and technical knowledge. In
addition, many of surviving texts on papyrus are Greek and Latin literature. During antiquity, the rolls
were more associated with the classical elite as mass readership was uncommon and papyrus could be

The Brown Vs. Board Of Education Case
Brown verses board of education started on December ninth 1952. The case was concluded on May
seventeenth 1954. Brown verses board of education is a very important, historical case. It is a United
States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared that all state laws establishing separate public
schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. Before the Brown verses board of
education case was concluded, black, and white children had to be taught in separate schools.
Supposedly, it was not moral for white, and black kids to be near each other. Even outside of school
there were separate water fountains, there were separate bathrooms, there were separate restaurants,
and many other parts of daily life where black people, and white people were not allowed to go to the
same places. Both of these races were supposed to have separate, but equal treatment. However, the
white run places had much more funding, and much nicer amenities than the places where black
people were allowed to go. This was deeply immoral. The first of the groups to be positively effected
by Mamie Phillips Clark, and Kenneth Bancroft Clark was the group of kids who were put through the
coloring test. The coloring test was an experiment that was a big part of the Brown v. Board of
Education decision. This experiment is less well known than the doll experiment, it still played a huge

The Reagan Tax Cuts and Foreign Policy
During the 1980 s President Ronald Reagan s (our 40th president from
1981 to 1989) domestic policy of a substantial tax cut led to greatly increased economic prosperity for
our country. During Reagan s administration marked changes were made to the tax code and economic
statistics showed a major change for the better. However, at the same time, the Democrats controlled
the Congress and continued increased spending against Reagan s wishes. The Joint Economic

This act simplified and reduced taxes, but the democrats wanted to claim equal credit for the bill as
well. A stock market crash in 1987 raised questions about the nation s economic health. A new bill to
balance the federal budget became law in 1987, but the huge deficit continued to be a concern to the
government.
Congress passed Reagan s requests for cuts in taxes and in some government programs. Reagan also
won increased funds for defense. By 1982, however, the country was in an recession, which meant
that there was an extended decline in general business activity, typically three consecutive quarters of
falling real gross national product. The economy improved in 1983. But the increased defense
spending and tax cut had led to a record budget deficit. Democrats attacked
Reagan for cutting social welfare programs and called for reduced defense spending and a tax increase
in order to lower the deficit.
Foreign Policy
President Reagan through foreign policy sought to achieve peace through strength. He had learned
how to deal skillfully with Congress and obtain legislation to strengthen our national defense. In 1983,
Reagan sent U.S.

Functions Of A Cell Membrane
The cell is a basic unit of life. All living organisms are made up of cells. Cells are vital to maintain life
and to allow reproduction. Each cell is separated from its surrounding environment by a cell
membrane and acts as a barrier. The cell membrane is a cell s most essential organelle. Cell
membranes are composed of four different types of molecules; phospholipids, cholesterol, proteins
and carbohydrates. The main function of a cell membrane is to control which substances can move in
and out of the cell. Different organisms have different cell membranes.
The phospholipids create the basic structure of a cell membrane. A phospholipid has two separate

Diffusion only occurs when there is a concentration gradient. This means when a particular type of
molecule is not spread out at an even concentration, but either exists in a higher concentration. The
concentration gradient in regards to the movement of molecules (except water) always moves from
high concentration to low concentration. Diffusion across cell membranes can occur in three main
ways. The way in which it diffuses is depended on whether the molecules are small or large, and
whether the molecules have already been concentrated. When really small molecules appear they are
able to fit into a protein channel that is in the plasma membrane. This process of crossing the
membrane can occur either by passive transport of active transport. When molecules are too big to fit
through any channels, then they enter the cells by moving in a vesicle or by pumping, and this process
is called active transport. When a molecule is crossing the membrane through passive transport, it is
doing this because no extra energy needs to be used to get the molecule across the membrane.
However when active transport is occurring this is because extra energy needs to be applied. Active
transport can be done in two different ways, either by using pumps or using vesicles. Active transport
using pumps moves small molecules against the concentration gradient. This is why there is extra
energy needed. The pumps push molecules from areas of low concentration to high

A New School Have you ever had to move before? If you have you know it s a scary feeling having to

First I ran over to my neighbors for one last Goodbye! Then out of the blue the moving truck was all

that was the last time I will ever see that house again. A move from LA to Chicago is a giant move.
The weather is different and so are the people. We found our new extremely awesome house that was

The Effects Of Psoriasis On The Development And...
Stress as an Influencing Factor in Psoriasis,
Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease with an approximate 2 3% prevalence in the general
population. The etiology of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it appears to be multifactorial,
involving both genetic and environmental influences. Among these factors, emotional stress is
considered to play an important role in the onset and exacerbation of psoriasis.
Emotional stress may influence the development and exacerbation of psoriasis. The proportion of
psoriasis patients who believe stress affects their skin condition (i.e., stress responders ) is
considerably high, ranging from 37% to 78%. Stress may worsen psoriasis severity and may even
lengthen the time to disease clearance. Dysregulation of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal and
sympathetic adreno medullary systems has been proposed as one possible underlying cause of stress
induced flares of psoriasis. While stress may be an exacerbating factor, psoriasis itself may contribute
to significant adverse psychological sequelae. Breaking this stress cycle may be an important part of
any therapeutic approach. Thus, stress reduction through psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy may be
useful in treating psoriasis patients who are stress responders.
Significance of Stress in psoriasis,
Researchers examined 132 psoriasis patients whose psoriasis had completely cleared with anthralin
therapy and were followed over 3 years. Fifty one patients (39%) recalled specific

together with any other family member. You do not have to apply any efforts to talk or listen to
complaints while communicating with it. It is so simple that it has become an integral part of the
culture of every family. It is the only time, when a person can forget about all the family troubles and
the failures of the day. The sofa opposite the TV set has become the place of reconciliation and
spiritual unity of the family. And instead of playing together and having emotional talks people prefer
to watch an episode from a thriller. It is senseless to deny the all embracing negative effect the
existence of television has brought to our lives. But to make our point of view ultimately convincing
we will introduce to your attention certain facts that people do not want to accept and often try to
justify. The base of the tomorrow s society are children today. And on the way they develop depends
how are world is going to look like tomorrow. The television negative effect facts that are well known
to every single parent, but are ignored by them in order to put the responsibility for bringing up kids
and showing them examples through interaction on the shoulders of somebody else.
Contemporary parents work a lot, but when they come back home they are not

Missed Oil Change Essay
An important part of a car s maintenance schedule is an engine oil change. An engine s life can be
shortened faster with missed oil changes. The primary function of oil is to cut friction. Oil changes
should not ever be put off. Oil that is dirty or not there does not allow a vehicle to function properly.
The damages can be costly, because it can be irreversible without an engine overhaul. It is a relatively
simple service that should be done when it is due. It is cheaper to buy oil than to replace an engine.
However, it is confusing when an oil change is needed. The recommendations by quick lube shops
speak to a wide audience; address cars of every age, every mileage, and all have different maintenance
schedules. People have been convinced to stick to the 3,000 mile changes by these companies who are
strong advocates driven by profit. These recommendations are not necessarily the ones your car needs,
because there is not a one size fits all solution. Most people sense their cars require an oil change
when they see the low oil light come on. The light is an indicator that the oil level is low and is losing
its ability to function properly. By then damage is already occurring to the engine. Others go by the
standard guideline for an oil change after 3,000 to 3,500 miles. This rule is old and no longer applies
to cars purchased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil intervals vary by engines and manufacturers. Oil change interval guidelines have been
designed to keep a car running in good condition. Manufacturers make recommendations based on
mild or severe driving conditions. This information can be found on the owner s manual or in the
manufacturer s website. Maintenance indicators can measure the oil quality to determine life
expectancy with an accurate assessment. The owner s manual should be the main guide if a car is not
equipped with a maintenance light or

Carl Von Clausewitz
Carl von Clausewitz is acknowledged to be one of the most influential writer on the topic of war and
strategy. Despite the fact that Carl von Clausewitz wrote around 200 years ago his thoughts about the
war remain relevant. This essay will explore to what extent the thoughts of Carl von Clausewitz can
be adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. The paper will introduce Clausewitz s very
systematic approach to the subject of war and will prove how useful it remains for formulating a
definition of war that is able to conceptualize the many different forms of modern war. To achieve this
task, the definitions war is more than a chameleon and the wondrous trinity , come to demonstrate that
the theories of Carl Von Clausewitz are still adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. Apart
from that, Clausewitz s tactical thought on defense and offence can help to explain why powerful
states are not always able to win small wars .
Clausewitz said that war is more than a chameleon, that simply changes its appearance as its
environment changes. War being is more than a true chameleon; it is actually a paradoxical trinity that,
in short, is made up of primordial violence, chance, and reason with these three variables constantly in
tension with each other. The example of the Iran Iraq war underlines that war has some consequences
on domestic policy. Indeed, this war allowed to the Islamic Republic to increase its hold on the Iranian
society by legitimating the

Comparing Apple iOS and Google Operating Systems
Android vs. iOS: Feature Comparison Introduction The intent of this analysis is to define the
differences between the Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems, in addition to discussing
the newest features for each. The Pros and Cons of each operating system are discussed, in addition to
a chart of relative market share on smartphone and tablet PCs. In addition to relative market share, the
number of application downloads will also be shown. Analysis Of Differences Between Android And
Apple iOS Mobile Operating Systems The most significant differences between these mobile
operating systems is the design philosophy of each, with Apple choosing a closed architecture, and
Google with Android, open. This design philosophy is the catalyst of differences between Android and
iOS operating systems. The next most significant difference is Android being based on the popular
open source kernel Linux while Apple built iOS on OS X operating system (Manikas, Hansen, 1294).
Additional differences include Android offering the kernel, user interface and standard baseline
applications all as open source, configurable by developers. Another difference is the level of
configurability and customization that is supported on Android relative to iOS as exemplified by the
open Application Programmer Interface (API) structure that Google has constructed for Android
(Puliyenthuruthel, et. al.). The decision by Google to make Android an open architecture based mobile
operating system has

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest By Ken Kesey
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest A Christ figure is a person who has the ability to bring light to
others and portrays the image of Jesus Christ. In the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, by Ken
Kesey, a healthy, normal man named Randle Patrick McMurphy was sent to the mental hospital as a
patient because he did not want to work at the Pendleton Work Farm. At the ward he meets the other
patients and challenges Nurse Ratched s authority. This novel is a parable that shows how McMurphy
represents Jesus Christ and how he became this figure of hope to the patients changed their lives.
McMurphy represents Jesus Christ and is the christ figure in the novel. There was a point in the story
where he stops rebelling because he fears that Nurse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the first meeting of the ward, Nurse Ratched exposes Harding s problem with his wife and the other
patients laugh and make fun of him. McMurphy sees this as a problem and talks to Harding, is this this
the pro cedure for the Group Therapy shindigs? Bunch of chickens at a pecking party? McMurphy is
saying that the patients should be helping each other to take out the bigger authority rather than
fighting each other. Later in the novel, McMurphy says he wants to leave the ward and go outside, so
he bets with the other patients that he can escape the ward by lifting a fountain attached to the ground
and throwing it at a wall to make an exit, even though this task is impossible. Chief Bromden, a
patient in the ward and the narrator of this story, describes this event, His whole body shakes with the
strain as he tries to lift something he knows he can t lift, something everybody knows he can t lift. But,
for just a second, when we hear the cement grind atout feet, we think, by golly, he might just do it. (p.
125). Although McMurphy was not able to lift the fountain, he gives the patients a hint of hope and
teaches them a lesson to try and be confident. McMurphy wanted to watch baseball on the TV and he
needed to get the majority votes of the patients in the ward to watch baseball. He was able to persuade

Development Plan and Control
rDevelopment planning is practised in all three tiers of the Government in Peninsular Malaysia. At the
national level, development planning is guided by the National Physical Plan (NPP) and other sectoral
national policies that are passed by the Cabinet. They address the strategic issues of national
importance and provide the overall framework for subsequent drawing up of the other more detailed
Development Plans. Contextually, development planning in the country operates within the stated
goals outlined in Vision 2020. Similarly at the state level, development is guided by the State
Development Plans, and other national sectoral policies that are formulated from time to time by the
respective state governments. Local level physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Hong Kong Schooling
Hong Kong schooling can be seen as an elitist or as a pyramidal school system. As formal schooling
begins, many (if not all) parents will make every effort to help their child gain admission to
prestigious primary schools such as La Salle. At Year 6, students strive for higher banding allocation
so as to be assigned to better secondary schools. In sixth form, students fight for the best exam scores
possible, as the students with the best exam scores are offered places of first degree courses at the
eight government funded institutions. Even then, intense competition has occurred amongst this group
of high achievers for admission to the more preferred institutions or courses. For example, the
University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been the
most preferred among the eight for many years. This scenario is exceptionally consistent with
traditional chinese culture, as according to Gow et al., 199, only a small ... Show more content on

Tests and quizzes are given in every month. Additionally, students have to do a large amount of
homework every school day, along with the assignments during Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter,
and Summer. The criteria of performance is also very high, and geared towards the more able students.
Many less able students who cannot survive the harsh curriculum eventually have nervous
breakdowns. However, students who survive the education system in Hong Kong and the IB curricula
have the mentality, motivation, and skills to succeed in any system around the world (see Biggs
Watkins, 1996). During the summer time, reports on the highest grading students of public
examinations consistently hit the headlines and landing pages of the meida in Hong Kong. The idea
that students should not be over achieving, or hold performance goals is plainly unacceptable in the
community (Cheng,

Morality of Giving Essays
How much money is one morally obligated to give to relief overseas? Many In people would say that
although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would say that if
a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter Singer,
however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, focuses on
the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as possible. His
thesis supports the idea that We ought to give until we reach the level of marginal utility that is, the
level at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I
would relieve by my gift (399). He says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try and
save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing compared to
letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child who is
geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is having
thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not to have
the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more people in dire
need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must provide so much support
where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his gift. While this argument uses
reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of it is also very important. The
essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the situation of seeing a child
drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks about providing famine relief to
the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which strengthens the essay s argument. The ideals
presented in his essay present a world where there is no famine or poverty, and people care about
about everyone else equally. This is not something that is expected to happen, and certainly not from
one persons

  • 4. The Outsiders By S. E Hinton Essay Yves Belance 28 Nov 2016 V. Minchener Enc11 Research Paper The novel and film, The Outsiders by S. E Hinton, can be composed based on symbols, imagery, characters, and chronology. The Outsiders is a novel and a movie. The novel was written by Susan Eloise Hinton, in 1965, where it took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After the book was published the movie, The Outsiders was produced in 1983 directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The author has a great sense of imagery. Ponyboy the narrator of the story used much imagery in chapter one in the novel to bring his brother and friends who are also Greasers to life. Ponyboy s big brother, Darry who had eyes that are like two pieces of pale blue green ice letting the reader know that Darry is the serious and determined person. In addition with broad shoulders , muscular and six two feet height , from the description, the reader can picture Darry as an athlete from the physical appearance. Ponyboy uses imagery on his second older brother Sodapop His eyes are dark brown lively, dancing recklessly laughing eyes that can be gentle and sympathetic one moment and blazing with anger the next . The descriptions gave Sodapop an image that signified effervescent and a slight of anger but kind. • 6. Advertisements Exploiting Children Are current practises of advertising to children exploitative? What restrictions should be placed on advertising to children? Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children (Wilcox et al. 2004). It is estimated that advertisers spend more than $12 billion a year on the youth market with more than 40,000 commercials each year. The current practises of advertising to young children definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development. Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox et al. 2004). Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). One day while googling for a cheap last minute flight, I found an interesting deal entitled wanna getaway on the Southwest Airlines website. Therefore, for the last few years, I have traveled with this airline. A snapshot of Southwest s website is an understatement of the company s accomplishments. For example, Thompson and Gamble (2010), revealed that Southwest Airlines lead the market for domestic travel despite the profit losses from 1980 to 2009. Moreover, they share Southwest s original marketing plans that superseded media ads. In 1971, this attention getting scheme was used to hire ladies with the Raquel Welch look: the company hired long legend beauties with sparkling personalities, dressed in hot pants and white boots. Their marketing strategies changed drastically from 1970 to 1973, which was remarkable for that season. However, technology, Facebook, Twitter and the internet allow society to scrutinize websites which include a vision and mission statements. Southwest s vision statement is broad and generic, while there are some positives, there are some shortcomings as well. It lacks a clear path as to the company s future; all airlines vision is to move cargo: people and things. Nonetheless, it is feasible; it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have never done an annotated bibliography before, so this was a learning experience. The expectations for myself on this assignment was to find good credible sources from the URI libraries database and write thorough summaries on the main points from each of them. I met most of the expectations where I explained the source material well and why it correlates to the argument. I formatted the citations well. • 10. Today s Competitive Postal Service Running Head: Today s Competitive Postal Service 2 The United States Postal Service began operations in 1971 following the passing of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. In the decades that have followed, the Postal Service has tried to remain relevant in a competitive business environment. In order to be successful at this, a revamping of the agency was necessary in order to keep up with advances in technology used by business and individuals, and to address an overall change in the public attitude regarding old fashioned mail services. This transformation of the Postal Service has been successful because of progressive management and effective leadership. Management and leadership are not the same thing, however they are interrelated and complementary. Shafritz, Russell and Borick (2010, pp. 361 362) state, Leadership is the exercise of authority, whether formal or informal in directing and coordinating the work of others. Management involves power (usually formal authority) ...with the power of management comes responsibility and accountability for the use of organizational resources. In order be transformed, the Postal Service needed to implement new management ideas combined with the pioneering concepts of new leadership. Due to the origin of female geisha, even though at first they were prostitutes, they became only professional entertainers later on. These women give off the illusion of female perfection. Their makeup, hair, clothing, and manner gives off the idea of fantasy. They are elegantly dressed in traditional kimonos that show off their necklines. The whole point of fighting in hockey is to make it more interesting then all of the other sports. • 15. Media Discrimination In The Media 1. Title IX signed into law on June 23rd, 1972 by President Richard M. Nixon states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 44 Fed. Reg. at 71413). Since this law was enacted we have seen a dramatic increase in female sports participation. Tile IX has had a positive impact on female athletes as females now make up over 40% of college athletes... compared to two percent before the time of the legislation (Staurowsky Weight, 2001, Pg. 190). Although Title IX has increased participation of female athletes it has not aided in achieving equality for women and girls in sports. I believe the barriers that prevent equality for female athletes can be broken down into two categories media coverage, and public perception. The media has majority control over what the public believes is important and most recently female athletes received 1.6% of television coverage, 4.9% of magazine covers, and only 9.7% of featured sports articles (Fink, 2015). Not only do female athletes not get enough media coverage, but when they do the focus is often on their physical appearance, femininity, and/ or heterosexuality (Fink, 2015, Pg. 331). This coverage creates a negative public perception toward female athletes. Thus the public believes that sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Disney Princess In Disney Disney princesses have always been seen in the public eye as dependent on their prince charming. When thinking about the very first princesses Disney put on the screen, such as Snow white, Cinderella, sleeping beauty and so on, they have never been thought of as very strong or independent women. In most of the early Disney princess movies, the underlying theme is that the princess is always in search of or waiting to be rescued by the male character. With, this is one of the most prominent reasons why Orenstein did not want her daughter listening to the snow white tale. She did not want to expose her daughter to thinking that the traits or characteristics that the princesses display were how women should act or be represented. Orenstein had several reservations when it came to her daughter learning about snow white and the other Disney princess. In the text, it talked about when her daughter was on the floor laying down waiting for her prince to come and give her the kiss that would save her. This was one of the reasons Orenstein didn t choose to tell her about show white, she thought that her daughter did not need to wait on any male figure to come save her and that she could be her own savor. Snow white, as many of the other princesses, depended on their prince to come save them. For example, when she ate the apple, she was to wait for the prince to wake her up from her dream instead of depending herself. Another reason why she did not want to expose her daughter to ... Political Socialization is a particular type of political learning where people develop the attitudes, values, beliefs, opinions and behaviors that are conducive to becoming a good citizen in their country. With political socialization there are many factors that are present when these views are formed, many are very apparent like historical events, and a clear effect such as gender, race, and socio economics status. My own political views were formed the same way as everybody else were. Through the first people I came to know, which were my parents. My parents taught me what the difference between a democrat and a republican were, what role the president plays in our government, and about our legislative branches which was based around their own views. When growing up my parents encouraged self respect and individuality so, this taught me to think about things own my own and how I felt about them. They also taught me how to conduct myself on a day to day basis. Being taught these things by my parents made me a very open minded person and this carries over strongly into how I view politics. I tend to focus on the single issues that are on the forefront and not on which party is proposing them. He is a good looking man, or at least he portrays himself to be, that is somewhat dirty and unkempt due to the fact that he does not have the money to afford running water. Usually he wears average streets clothes, maybe some rugged jeans and a worn shirt, but from time to time he will wear a nice suit and shoes that he has stolen from a department store. • 21. Theme Of Blindness In Oedipus The King Greek literature has been known to utilize dramatic irony, which allows the character s motives clear to the audience although unknown to the main character itself. Sophocles introduces the Greek tragedy Oedipus the King using this literary technique moving on to develop the concept of blindness and sight. In fact, this text deals with the idea of blindness and sight revealed by a character both literally and figuratively. The play introduces the Greek city state called Thebes, which is suffering a great plague causing the state to fall apart. A prophecy has been set to recover the plaque by which King Oedipus must find the killer of Laius, his predecessor. Throughout the play, Sophocles displays an overarching question of which characters are considered blind, one who remains blind and ignorant to the truth or one who is depleted of sight embracing the certainty of the circumstances. Based on Oedipus s motivations, character development, and interactions over the course of the play, Sophocles develops the theme that when power and ignorance camouflage the truth, agony and despair will follow as the truth unfolds. In the starting of the play, Sophocles introduces Oedipus possessing great power and reputation therefore leading him to be unaware of his truth. For example, when Oedipus interacts with Teiresias, the blind prophet, Oedipus says, Oh I ll let loose, I have such Fury in me now I see it all. • 23. The Waking Poem By Theodore Roethke Through his life affirming poem, The Waking, Theodore Roethke explores the cycle of life using life and death as metaphors to describe how we come to a more enlightened state of being. From a primary reading of his poem The Waking, only a simple understanding of the poem is attainable, as Roethke does not give his work a defined setting or subject. In addition, it seems that the poem is very simplistic and does not require much attention to understand or interpret. However, upon revisiting the poem multiple times, it can be inferred that Roethke intentionally uses various paradoxes and nature imagery to symbolize aspects of life in order to help the reader understand his outlook on how to endure life and in order to evoke and develop the theme of the cyclical pattern of life. The title examines the transition from sleep to wakefulness as a state of mind that is representative of both states yet very different from each. The definitive article, The, suggests a fixed and real thing; meanwhile, the gerund Waking, hints towards a continuous process. Pushing aside some of the leafy, pliable branches in your way, you start down the path. Your lungs fill with a rich, earthy smell. A good smell. The theme revolves around the idea that if one does not express their true feelings and remain true to themselves, consequences could ensue that may involve others who had nothing to do with their issues in the first place. This theme could be derived from the inciting incident, the rising action and the climax. The inciting incident occurs due to the fact that Laurey chooses Jud over Curley in order to see how he would react. This example remains true to the theme since jealousy is the main force driving Laurey to commit to her actions, all the while remaining in denial of actually liking Jud. Moreover, Curley, being jealous of Jud, decides to pay him a visit which causes a commotion and a worsens the relationship between the two characters. Furthermore, this theme is at its peak relevancy when Laurey has her dream sequence. In Laurey s dream sequence, it is obvious that she has feelings for Curley, however, since she chooses to remain in denial and pursues the act of making Curley jealous, her dream sequence takes a turn for the worst. As her [Laurey] dream sequence progresses, she starts having visions of being raped and begins to see Curley being hurt by Jud, thus show her how her childish acts have hurt others and herself included. By leading Jud to believe that she has feelings for him, he begins to develop great feelings for her, therefore, at the climax of the play, Jud returns for Curley and Laurey s wedding in order to kill Curley, however, it is Jud that dies in the end. Brown verses board of education is a very important, historical case. It is a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared that all state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. Before the Brown verses board of education case was concluded, black, and white children had to be taught in separate schools. Supposedly, it was not moral for white, and black kids to be near each other. Cell membranes are composed of four different types of molecules; phospholipids, cholesterol, proteins and carbohydrates. The main function of a cell membrane is to control which substances can move in and out of the cell. Different organisms have different cell membranes. This means when a particular type of molecule is not spread out at an even concentration, but either exists in a higher concentration. The concentration gradient in regards to the movement of molecules (except water) always moves from high concentration to low concentration. Diffusion across cell membranes can occur in three main ways. The way in which it diffuses is depended on whether the molecules are small or large, and whether the molecules have already been concentrated. When really small molecules appear they are able to fit into a protein channel that is in the plasma membrane. This process of crossing the membrane can occur either by passive transport of active transport. When molecules are too big to fit through any channels, then they enter the cells by moving in a vesicle or by pumping, and this process is called active transport. When a molecule is crossing the membrane through passive transport, it is doing this because no extra energy needs to be used to get the molecule across the membrane. However when active transport is occurring this is because extra energy needs to be applied. Active transport can be done in two different ways, either by using pumps or using vesicles. Active transport using pumps moves small molecules against the concentration gradient. This is why there is extra energy needed. The pumps push molecules from areas of low concentration to high ... • 40. Descriptive Essay About A New School A New School Have you ever had to move before? If you have you know it s a scary feeling having to start all over with friends and join a new school. Early in the morning when we moved made the nice peaceful weather cold and rainy. The feeling sent shivers down my spine as if there was a thunderstorm. Sweat trickled down my back. I was so scared to move that my teeth were chattering. First I ran over to my neighbors for one last Goodbye! Then out of the blue the moving truck was all packed so I scurried back into the house that used to be ours and peered around. Driving away I knew that was the last time I will ever see that house again. A move from LA to Chicago is a giant move. The weather is different and so are the people. We found our new extremely awesome house that was so tall and wide that you had to stand a good distance to see what s on the other side of the house. I wandered in and found myself standing in a enormous room with a red brick fireplace. I strolled around until I got to the very next floor where I found a bedroom that I called dibs on! Peering out the window at my Mom and Dad unpacking the car, so far down they appeared like mini figures playing with Hot wheels. My mom came in and asked me Do you guys like this house? My brother and I responded in unison This place is AWESOME! I screamed to my brother, George, in excitement Look at the rooms they are so big and cool! Follow me this way. Oh and I already call dibs on the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Effects Of Psoriasis On The Development And... Stress as an Influencing Factor in Psoriasis, Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease with an approximate 2 3% prevalence in the general population. The etiology of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it appears to be multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental influences. Among these factors, emotional stress is considered to play an important role in the onset and exacerbation of psoriasis. Emotional stress may influence the development and exacerbation of psoriasis. The proportion of psoriasis patients who believe stress affects their skin condition (i.e., stress responders ) is considerably high, ranging from 37% to 78%. Stress may worsen psoriasis severity and may even lengthen the time to disease clearance. Dysregulation of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal and sympathetic adreno medullary systems has been proposed as one possible underlying cause of stress induced flares of psoriasis. While stress may be an exacerbating factor, psoriasis itself may contribute to significant adverse psychological sequelae. Breaking this stress cycle may be an important part of any therapeutic approach. Thus, stress reduction through psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy may be useful in treating psoriasis patients who are stress responders. Significance of Stress in psoriasis, Researchers examined 132 psoriasis patients whose psoriasis had completely cleared with anthralin therapy and were followed over 3 years. Fifty one patients (39%) recalled specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You do not have to apply any efforts to talk or listen to complaints while communicating with it. It is so simple that it has become an integral part of the culture of every family. It is the only time, when a person can forget about all the family troubles and the failures of the day. The sofa opposite the TV set has become the place of reconciliation and spiritual unity of the family. • 43. Missed Oil Change Essay An important part of a car s maintenance schedule is an engine oil change. An engine s life can be shortened faster with missed oil changes. The primary function of oil is to cut friction. Oil changes should not ever be put off. Oil that is dirty or not there does not allow a vehicle to function properly. The damages can be costly, because it can be irreversible without an engine overhaul. It is a relatively simple service that should be done when it is due. It is cheaper to buy oil than to replace an engine. However, it is confusing when an oil change is needed. The recommendations by quick lube shops speak to a wide audience; address cars of every age, every mileage, and all have different maintenance schedules. People have been convinced to stick to the 3,000 mile changes by these companies who are strong advocates driven by profit. These recommendations are not necessarily the ones your car needs, because there is not a one size fits all solution. Most people sense their cars require an oil change when they see the low oil light come on. The light is an indicator that the oil level is low and is losing its ability to function properly. By then damage is already occurring to the engine. Others go by the standard guideline for an oil change after 3,000 to 3,500 miles. This rule is old and no longer applies to cars purchased ... • 44. Carl Von Clausewitz Carl von Clausewitz is acknowledged to be one of the most influential writer on the topic of war and strategy. Despite the fact that Carl von Clausewitz wrote around 200 years ago his thoughts about the war remain relevant. This essay will explore to what extent the thoughts of Carl von Clausewitz can be adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. The paper will introduce Clausewitz s very systematic approach to the subject of war and will prove how useful it remains for formulating a definition of war that is able to conceptualize the many different forms of modern war. To achieve this task, the definitions war is more than a chameleon and the wondrous trinity , come to demonstrate that the theories of Carl Von Clausewitz are still adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. Apart from that, Clausewitz s tactical thought on defense and offence can help to explain why powerful states are not always able to win small wars . Clausewitz said that war is more than a chameleon, that simply changes its appearance as its environment changes. War being is more than a true chameleon; it is actually a paradoxical trinity that, in short, is made up of primordial violence, chance, and reason with these three variables constantly in tension with each other. The example of the Iran Iraq war underlines that war has some consequences on domestic policy. Indeed, this war allowed to the Islamic Republic to increase its hold on the Iranian society by legitimating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This design philosophy is the catalyst of differences between Android and iOS operating systems. The next most significant difference is Android being based on the popular open source kernel Linux while Apple built iOS on OS X operating system (Manikas, Hansen, 1294). Additional differences include Android offering the kernel, user interface and standard baseline applications all as open source, configurable by developers. Another difference is the level of configurability and customization that is supported on Android relative to iOS as exemplified by the open Application Programmer Interface (API) structure that Google has constructed for Android (Puliyenthuruthel, et. al.). • 48. The Pros And Cons Of Hong Kong Schooling Hong Kong schooling can be seen as an elitist or as a pyramidal school system. As formal schooling begins, many (if not all) parents will make every effort to help their child gain admission to prestigious primary schools such as La Salle. At Year 6, students strive for higher banding allocation so as to be assigned to better secondary schools. In sixth form, students fight for the best exam scores possible, as the students with the best exam scores are offered places of first degree courses at the eight government funded institutions. Even then, intense competition has occurred amongst this group of high achievers for admission to the more preferred institutions or courses. For example, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have been the most preferred among the eight for many years. • 49. Morality of Giving Essays How much money is one morally obligated to give to relief overseas? Many In people would say that although it is a good thing to do, one is not obligated to give anything. Other people would say that if a person has more than he needs, then he should donate a portion of what he has. Peter Singer, however, proposes a radically different view. His essay, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, focuses on the Bengal crisis in 1971 and claims that one is morally obligated to give as much as possible. His thesis supports the idea that We ought to give until we reach the level of marginal utility that is, the level at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (399). He says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he is saying If a person saw a child drowning in a lake, he would be morally obligated to try and save him. Any inconvenience caused from wading into the lake would mean nothing compared to letting the child die. Now, if a person would be morally wrong not to save the child who is geographically near him, would he not be obligated to save the child in another country? Is having thousands of miles between the giver and the one in need a good enough reason for him not to have the same obligation to help? The clear conclusion is that, although there are far more people in dire need than one could ever help, one must give as much as he can. One must provide so much support where, by giving more, he would be worse off than the receiver of his gift. While this argument uses reason as it s primary means of convincing, the emotional aspect of it is also very important. The essay attempts to capture the readers emotions by putting them in the situation of seeing a child drown, there is no normal person who wouldn t help. When he asks about providing famine relief to the people in other countries, the reader feels guilt, which strengthens the essay s argument.
