The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid
To Aid or Not to Aid
Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the
mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid,
through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to
mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the
Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment,
medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common
foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations
such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and
promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary
to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies
improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States
and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city,
state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In
contrast, according to Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on
foreign aid . With the state of the world today,

Metro Plus Health Plan
Working as a Case Manager (CM) for a Medicaid based Health Insurance has brought me in contact
with patients of varied cultures, languages and races. As a CM For Metro Plus Health Plan, my
responsibility is to teach High Risk pregnant women about their diseases, encourage them to stay in
care with their Primary Care Physician/Obstetricians, explain the importance of taking their
medications as prescribed, and adhering to all their providers plan of care, with the goal of
encouraging these patient s to become responsible and active participants in their own care. I have
been able to directly observe as a clinician, how cultural competence can positively impact not only

There is limited healthcare services and literature that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for
culturally diverse populations. These barriers have been shown over the years to threaten how
effective care is for these populations. The healthcare system depends on nurses to facilitate services,
care plans and educate patients on various health issues. Many patients who live in these communities
have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake assessments, reading
their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional resources for this population
should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low literacy literature for these patients.
Including family members in the process will help nurses bridge the culture and linguistic gaps in
communication and care. Integrating knowledge and respect for various cultures, their belief systems,
and values will facilitate better health care compliance and yield better

Biblical Symbols Of The Bible
Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp from
one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background knowledge to be
able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have been countless
attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by Origen of
Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I will be using
this structure to explain a passage found in the Bible to its greatest potential. Afterwards, I will be
analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us.
One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body,
narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark 12:1
12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesus tells the chief priests,
teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading
literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from the
vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he sent a
servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat
him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on
the head and treated him

generalized anxiety disorder Essay
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a chronic and often disabling condition that is associated with
uncontrollable worry and tension. The vicious cycle of anxiety and worry interferes with relationships,
careers, and education, and often leads to depression. This disorder is much more than the normal
anxiety that everyone experiences from time to time, and can be crippling in its severity. GAD is
unlikely to disappear without proper treatment, and often worsens over time.
Physical manifestations of GAD often include headaches, trembling, twitching, fatigue, irritability,
frustration, muscle tension, and inability to concentrate. Sleep disturbances may also occur.

A Detailed Authoritative Background Analysis On Aerotoxic...
The following report provides a detailed authoritative background analysis on Aerotoxic Syndrome.
The report is broken up into four sections, comprising firstly the nature of the problem, and how it
affects all stakeholders, followed by the controversies related to the topic, with potential solutions to
such controversies. Next in the report is the identification and prioritisation of appropriate risk
controls, and finally an indication of immediate and long term actions the airline carrier can take when
a crew member appears to be suffering from the illness, Aerotoxic Syndrome. Ultimately, the report as
a whole will aid your airline carrier surrounding the issues of Aerotoxic Syndrome now and into the
future.
Aerotoxic Syndrome is an illness that is caused by breathing in toxic fumes inside of the jet aircraft.
This is caused by the air intake on a plane, which comes from the engine where it sucks in the air and
pumps it into the cabin, but the toxic oils and other substances in the engine can easily leak into the
airflow and contaminate the air that all passengers and staff breath. A very common leakage is the
leakage of the jet engine lubricant oil, tricresyl phosphate, otherwise known as TCP or TOCP. The
Government and regulatory authorities have conducted researches that have admitted to the
association between the contamination of the cabin air to chronic health problems, but they have not
admitted to specific causation. Aerotoxic Syndrome could possibly cause

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Personality Analysis
One of the aims of Social psychologists is to research and explain individual differences in behaviour.
Theories of personality were developed between different but related strands such as clinical,
psychometric and experimental tradition; they looked at people behaviour to find out why individuals
act and respond to stimuli differently in common situations (Butt, 2012). Behaviour, emotion and
thought are the qualities that characterise each individual while he interacts with the social
environment, i.e. the definition of what is understood by personality. As cited by Butt (2012) traits are
relatively enduring ways in which an individual differs from another (Butt, 2012 p.46).
Two different approaches have their theory about personality: trait theory by Eysenck (1965) which
has origins from the psychometric tradition of measurement based on the experimental approach and
Kelly s (1995) personal construct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay is going to discuss the two theories highlighting the strengths and weakness for both
approaches. Trait theory was developed from the psychometric tradition by Eysenck and Ranchman
(1964) that used variables such as cognitive ability and IQ to assess individual differences; however,
criticism argued that IQ tests would favour only white middle class. Eysenck (1965) adopted a
nomothetic approach, which classifies personality dimensions, to measure and describe the individual
differences of personality. In Eysenck s and Ranchman (1964) approach, the science of personality
was a means of clarifying psychiatric classification. He believed that individual s behaviour, i.e.
personality, is influenced by biological characteristics: causal factors at a neurological level can
influence individual s temperament and behaviour. However, he recognised that other features such as
individual s past

Although it is a ghost story, A Christmas Carol is an uplifting tale. To what extent do you agree?
A Christmas carol by Charles Dickens is a significant novella written in the Victorian era. The
protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge is used to demonstrate the upper class society and their attitude towards
the poor. Throughout this redemption story, Dickens combines a descriptions of hardships faced by the
poor with a heart felt sentimental celebration of the Christmas season. The novella contains a dramatic
and comic element as well as a deep felt moral theme. The text promotes the values of Ebenezer
Scrooge, delving into his past, present and supposed future as well as contrasting between the
enriching and depressing story; specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author illustrates that Scrooge who is depicted as hard and sharp as a flint is a greedy miser whom
is so old and coldhearted that nothing other than his profits will phase him. Dickens uses the scene
when the ghost of Christmas past, a child like old man uses flashbacks to show Scrooge of the
memories he once made to show the nature of the much younger character. This is evident when Fan a
little girl much younger than Scrooge had brought out the affection of her older brother as they
planned to be together all the Christmas long, and have the merriest time in all the world. What is
important about this example is not just that it shows the compassion Scrooge once felt but also that
Scrooge is not truly crooked and horrible to the core establishing the uplifting and inspiring feeling to
readers.
The title of the novella, A Christmas Carol, is immediately recognized by the reader as hardly
appropriate for the first stave. Stave one does not resemble the happy and cheerful world of Christmas
trees and presents, but instead the reader is exposed to, what can only be described as, ghost story
features. Ghost stories are meant to be scary, typically the ghosts that appear in this genre bring
nothing but evil, but in this

Asperger Syndrome In Look Me In The Eye
Asperger syndrome is one of many subtypes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Of the subtypes, this
syndrome is one of the higher functioning conditions. Thus, these individuals have a hard time
socializing, present restricted interests, repeat behaviors constantly, and do not understand non verbal
communication. Also, the individuals with this condition can present a delay in motor development,
which can lead to clumsiness or uncoordinated movements (Autism Speaks, 2013). Furthermore, this
condition can be very difficult for the person as well as others, such as family and friends. In the book,
Look Me in the Eye, John Robison explored his experiences with Asperger syndrome. He explained
his life, what he went through, and the obstacles that came with his condition.
At the start of the book, Robison informed his reads about his experiences with Asperger syndrome as
a child. Thus, Robison stated that he would give nicknames to individuals he seen repeatedly. For
example, he called his little brother Snort. He did this because it was difficult for him to remember
names. Furthermore, he not only gave nicknames to people, but also liked to sort factors by categories.

that it was only right to guide himself with Asperger syndrome. Thus, as Robison learned more about
himself through experiences, he failed as well as succeeded. However, this helped him understand his
strengths and weaknesses. Although he failed at tasks that others succeeded on, Robison began to
understand that he was different in a unique way. This belief allowed him to be more confident and

Yamira, Atafa, and the King have both main characters that go through the a similar childhood

proves that Yamira is confident enough and that he is going to do all he can to marry this girl. Also this
scene display the power of Yamira, for being a boy/man along for being a prince, that he can arrange a

do what men want them to, especially in older times when tradition was important to the society.
Marriage is an example of what young girls in Africa and around the world have to experience
because of traditions. In the article The Negative Consequences of Dowry Payment on Women and
Society by Emily Onyango, the author mentions that young girls are not only forced into marriage but
they are seen as property. When women are treated as property, they have no dignity... This means that
parents will not give the girls education, but marry them off instead (Onyango 3). All of the dreams of
a girl can t be accomplish because they forced into marriage for money. However, a boy can get his
education and move on in life because of his gender.

Maximum Security Prisons
When I think of a prison the first thing that comes to my mind is a secure facility where criminals are
taken to. A facility where people are rehabilitated and punish by imprisonment for doing wrong to or
against society. Prisons are a facility for criminals that have committed crimes such as felonies and
usually the prisoners there have to serve long sentences. There are different types of prison, based in
different aspects to protect the prisoners. An example could be Juvenile prisons, which is a prison
usually for minors that are not 18 years old yet. This prison offers educational programs and also it
segregates the adults from the minors which prevents them from interacting with more dangerous
prisoners. All prisons have security, however there are some prison that are a Minimum security

others said that it s fine the way it is. Some people argue that the system should only focus in
punishment while others argue that it should only be focus on rehabilitation. I personally think that the
system is not working because neither the punishments of the rehabilitation are working. The crimes
rates are not getting any lower, and prison are costing more and more. There is a lot of programs for
prisoners to engage in that could potentially help them change, however must of the prisoners take it

Authoritarianism In The Cold War
The end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted in major shift in United
States foreign policy. For years, the United States supported tyrannical dictators in return for stable
anti communist government receptive to United States interests. The Cold War resulted in a new world
order with the United States as the lone global hegemonic power. In Eastern Europe in particular, the
end of the Cold War ushered in an era of economic growth and a large increase in the number of
liberal democracies. Although the world saw a large increase in liberal democracies, a new regime
type referred to as competitive authoritarianism began to emerge. According to Levitsky and Way, In
competitive authoritarian regimes, formal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these systems, the regimes possess some of these characteristics but have found ways to manipulate
the system to consolidate their power. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by
banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co
optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant
judiciaries, and other state agencies to legally harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behavior from
critics . While it is apparent that these regimes are not fully democratic, it would be unfair to label
them as fully authoritarian either. Unlike traditional totalitarian governments, the persistence of true
democratic institutions in competitive authoritarian regimes allows the opposition to contest, weaken
and occasionally even defeat autocratic incumbents. While these situations are generally uncommon,
these situations are possible in competitive authoritarianism due to four independent means, the
electoral arena, the legislature, the judiciary and the media. These four branches are virtually
independent of the executive control however, unlike in democracies, the competitive authoritarian
regimes use its power to undermine their independence. In regards to the electoral arena, large scale
abuses of state power, biased media coverage, harassment of opposition candidates and activists are
widespread, legislatures tend to be relatively weak, the

minimal effect to the environment. It is an environment friendly database unlike the present day data
center To achieve green i.e. environment friendliness, we need a proper planning and strategy. We
must first understand the energy requirement of our data center. Based on the understanding we have
to develop a plan to build or upgrade the data warehouse to make it energy efficient. Then we have to
optimize and load balance the server rooms Afterwards, to increase performance we have to follow
virtualization of the server. The final steps include the analysis of the developed system and report to
the authorities. 1.2: At present the data centers are a great matter of concern and there is a global
understanding about the future of the data centers. Although data centers are developing at a very fast
pace but still the efforts are going on to standardize the things and reduce the environmental effects of
the data centers. Some of the big IT companies like Google, yahoo, IBM etc. have gone a far ahead to
achieve green data centers. Some companies like HCL, IBM etc. are providing packages to help the
organizations develop green data centers in a cost effective manner. The larger player of the IT

How Does Priestley Create Tension In An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls is a play written by J.B. Priestly in 1945. The play, which is set in 1912, illustrates
the vast status difference in society at the time. Priestly wanted to show to the audience a more
dramatic look at the relationship between the wealthy and the poor. Priestley, a socialist, believed that
we are all part of a community and have responsibilities to look after one another. Using the inspector
as a mouthpiece, Priestley was able to cleverly convey his ideas of socialism and community under the
idea of a murder mystery. From the very beginning of Act One, Priestly emphasizes the birling

second person (the first being Eric) so far to react so openly at the death of this young woman.
Priestley uses this to emphasize the cold nature of the upper class, and how Mr. Birling seemed almost

living in the upper class has made him indifferent to death and so has little emotion things like that.

Samson is the Bible s Hercules; since he is known as a great man of superhuman strength. Samson
was the last of the judges of the ancient Israelites. There were three judges who ruled Israel. The

forth the Philistines, a strong and aggressive army. They ravaged the land, stole the Israelites food and

That savior was Samson.

The Video Examined Two Individuals With A Profound Loss Of...
The cybersenses video examined two individuals with a profound loss of hearing and vision. The first
individual was a little girl named Kelly who became death due to a disease that impaired her hair cells
in her cochlea. Growing up she received a hearing aid, however the device got progressively worse.
She explained to the producers that she could slightly hear some noise but nothing was definite
anymore, and all she wanted in life was to actually hear noise such as the running river and fully talk
to her family. Due to her circumstance doctors decided to perform a surgery to permanently fix or
better her hearing. For Kelly s surgery doctors decided to permanently implant electrodes into her ear,
by attaching an electrode array into the inner ear (cochlea) and a receiver which is placed behind the
ear. By doing this each device will be connected to a magnet and an antenna making sound signals
channel through her brain. Overall Kelly s surgery is successful and with speech therapy Kelly is able
to talk and hear noises that she was not really able to before. After watching Kelly and analyzing the
actual surgery of the cochlea implant, the inner ear and how we receive signals makes more sense. To
be honest I had to watch this video multiple times and look up ways they perform the surgery to get a
better overall understanding. However thinking about how we pick up noise and hear sound differs
between each individual, such as light. It all depends on our hair cells, which

Anti Semitism As A Conflict Of Religious Identity And...
For many centuries the Jewish people were scowled upon in their society and have been physically
and mentally tormented. Anti Semitism was been around for many generations, and it ranges from a
conflict of religious identity and national identity. The holocaust took place 70 years ago and people
claim that it was the stem of Anti Semitism, but Anti Semitism goes as far back as the fourth century,
and ultimately helped pave the path for the Holocaust. Medieval Anti Semitism took place during the
time where the Jews lived under the dominant religion of Christianity under the Roman Empire in
Europe. The Jews during this period suffered from the crusade, blood libels, and hatred from the
Christians. This then transitioned into National Anti Semitism, which took place during the
Enlightenment. Many people during this time were almost Patriotic people believed highly in loyalty
to their nation, Jews being the outsiders, who did not share many of the attributes these people had
such as language or history were a targets for this National anti Semitism (modern Anti Semitism).
Thus Christian Anti Semitism transitioned to modern Anti Semitism: the enlightenment, Jew hatred
did not end but rather changed from religious prejudice, god and law, to peoplehood/national aspect,
unity of a nation (Why The Jews? Secular Antisemitism: The Enlightenment).
There was a period where many of the Christians fundamental beliefs were similar to Judaism, such as

Analysis of Randall Jarrell s The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner
Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One of these writers
was Randall Jarrell. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents
moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell divorced,
Randall and his younger brother returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville,
Randall attended Hume Frogg high school. Randall showed his love for the arts while in high school
by participating in dramatics and journalism. Jarrell continued his career in the arts when he wrote and

Jarrell uses a great deal of imagery in this poem to help the reader get a better picture of what is going
on. In the first line of the poem Jarrell uses visual, auditory and tactile imagery. When he uses the
words, mother s sleep, the reader can see the mother laying in her bed sound asleep. Also the reader
can hear the deep breaths that the mother is taking while she slumbers. The reader gets the tactile
image when the author says, I fell, because almost everyone has experienced the falling sensation
before. Since the word, State, is capitalized one can see that Jarrell is talking about some form of
government. The reader gets the visual image of a government sitting around planning something big.
In the second line of the poem, And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze, the reader gets visual,
tactile and thermal imagery. First of all the reader can see a person hunched, with his knees almost at
his chest, in the belly of something. Also the reader can see a person with a fur coat that is almost
covered in ice. The thermal imagery comes in when Jarrell says the word, froze. The reader can feel
the cold coming from the frozen jacket as he reads the poem. When Jarrell says the words, hunched in
the belly, the reader gets a very uncomfortable feeling. In line number three the reader gets visual
imagery as well as slight tactile imagery. The visual imagery comes

Compare And Contrast Russia And The Usa
THE USSR AND THE USA
Throught our lives we are taught how The United States of America allegedly did not have any
relations with the super power, United Soviet socialist republic of Russia (USSR). As more in depth
research is done, it becomes obvious that this was not that case. It also becomes obvious that our
relationships with the soviets was soley based on geopolitical and economic needs . Looking back at
the birth, beginning and harships of the early Soviet union(1920 s) it is very clear that all this is true.
Althought were taught early on in schools that, we hate Russia! , evidence shows that we did have

Thanks to many donations from private donars the ARA was able to increase their budget to two
hundred thousand dollars by the next year. Many believe that one of the reasons that the ARA was
formed was to help out russia during the Volga famine. This is obvious because the administration was
formed at the same time that the US started helping them out. It is also obvious that The American
Relief Adminastration was the loop hole for the USA to have unrestricted trade with the oppressive
soviet government by claiming that its sole purpose is to help the citizens suffering from the hardhsips
of dealing with the Volga Famine. At the time no one thought anything of this ,however, looking back
at all the information, it becomes evident that USA used gorillia political tactics to sneak by the

Bolshevik party creating the NEP(New Economic Policy) which will basically open up untaxed trade

Conch Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Symbols: a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process.
Throughout this story the use of symbols were greatly used as a representation of a civilization
journey. The process was made up of 3 important symbols in the novel to which helped the boys find
an escape from the island. The boys found an escape route even if the symbols were made as a
negative impact on how they lived or as a positive impact. The novel, The Lord of the Flies, written by
William Golding utilizes the symbols of: the conch as an illustration of leadership, the signal fire
which illustrates a man s struggle for survival, and the beast is a representation of man s fear of the
unknown.
The conch is used as a symbol in the story as order to act as leader while holding the conch. As the
boys held the conch to speak they were given the chance to let out what they have to say without
everyone talking at the same time. That s what this shell s called. I ll give the conch to the next person
to speak. eaking. And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. He can hold it when he s speaking. And
he won t be interrupted . Expect by me. We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They ll come
when they hear us As a person receives the conch the boy s fight over to who holds it next to speak
which causes unbalanced emotions which causes a separation into two groups. The importance of the
conch served as how they reacted with each other in society manner wise, since one person could only
be the one speaking the others would have to show manners so that no conflict would start over who s
talking and to wait a turn.
The signal fire was used as an resource for man s survival as a way to be found by using it. The source
of the fire comes to as a personal idea on how Ralph thought of the idea to create a fire to be later be
found by aircraft. There s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island

Mindfulness Meditation and The Reduction of Anxiety
Mindfulness Meditation and The Reduction of Anxiety
Mindfulness meditation is a form of meditation that has been prevalent for thousands of years, and is
only becoming increasingly more popular. Over the past decade, neuroscientists like myself have
become increasingly interested in studying how meditation affects the brain and body. The number of
studies conducted per year in this new field of contemplative science is rising exponentially, with
more than 200 studies published last year alone, (Hasenkamp). It s a form of meditation in which a
person builds a practice of awareness, intentionally focuses their attention on the present moment, and
accepts whatever the present moment brings, without any judgment.

The majority of study participants reported decreases in anxiety. Researchers found that meditation
reduced anxiety ratings by as much as 39 percent. (Beck and Davis)
The direct effect that focusing the mind on the present moment has on reducing anxiety and its
symptoms are largely important. The idea of not controlling one s thoughts, but redirecting them to the
present moment is a fairly hard concept for most people to fully understand. Redirecting one s
thoughts to the present moment distracts the mind from any worry some or anxiety inducing thoughts
or feelings, without giving attention to them. The redirection of thoughts essentially keeps the mind
occupied, which means the mind has less time to spend worrying or cultivating anxiety inducing
scenarios in one s mind.
In relation to the redirection of thoughts being effective in reducing anxiety, it also has been proven to
reduce physical symptoms of anxiety or discomfort. By reverting attention away from pre existing
physical discomforts, these same discomforts are given time to subside, which they typically do
immensely, solely because it isn t the focus of one s attention. Some experts believe that mindfulness
works, in part, by helping people to accept their experiences including painful emotions rather than
react to them with aversion and

Smells Like Teen Spirit
Smells Like Teen Spirit is an analysis essay written by a Virginia Commonwealth University student,
Matt Compton. In his essay, Compton analyzes the lyrics of the song, Smells Like Teen Spirit
performed by Nirvana and written by Kurt Cobain. Smells Like Teen Spirit , released in 1991,
received many music awards. Although some could not interpret the song s meaning, it was exactly
what many youths needed to hear . By drawing attention to specific verses and changes in rhythm,
Compton applies that the song articulated the emotions of America s youth. Compton expresses that
Cobain had written and performed a song about his own confusion, and in the process he had
connected with young people all over the United States. Compton s main ... Show more content on

The more abundant of the two is ethos, seen in almost every paragraph. From the introduction where
he quotes Tom Moon to the conclusion where he quotes Michael Azerrad, Compton cites multiple
credible authorities to strengthen his points. He also includes his own experiences about how he,
himself, was one of the young adults who connected with the lyrics of the song. As for pathos,
Compton generally tries to connect with his audience by stating how the word contagious is used in
the lyrics. Because no one wants to be around that person, they will look at the person with disgust, as
if they have some highly contagious disease. Although sufficient in ethos and pathos, logos were not
used in Compton s essay. Since this is an analysis of a song, it does not affect the effect of the essay. I
do not think that Compton has adequately accomplished his purpose. Although he attempted to
provide the audience with bountiful information that Smells Like Teen Spirit conveys emotions that
relate to young adults, his essay contained an ethical fallacy of dogmatism. Even though he does
attempt to acknowledge the opposing views by saying, Cobain s lyrics do in fact carry a confused
message... , his attitude implied that Smells Like Teen Spirit does have meanings, but that some do not

Walls In Ronald Reagan s Mending Wall
Walls are a thing that the world knows far too well. People that live by walls tend to dislike the very
wall they live by. I believe that walls are a terrible thing for the world to go through again. Walls
separate friends and family. They also stop the transport of goods from other countries from being
exchanged. Nature even disapproves of walls. Giant walls create giant blockages for people.
Walls separate friends and family from being together and having fun. In Robert Frost s Mending Wall

Walls stop goods being transported from place to place. In Reagan s Tear Down This Wall people in
East Germany cannot give things to people in West Germany. Also in Frost s Mending Wall the
neighbors cannot exchange apples and pines. The walls block transportation of goods as much as they
block people from each other. Nature itself even disapproves of man made walls.
Nature is a very powerful force beyond human comprehension, let alone control. But at spring
mending time we find them there, (Robert Frost). This means that nature and time are trying to tear
the wall down to reunite the neighbors. Walls are not a natural feature of the Earth, they are man
made. The force of nature doesn t like to be trifled with, it will destroy the walls and make sure they
are not rebuilt. I believe that walls need to be destroyed from the face of this Earth.
Some people state that walls are a good thing because they keep the villains out. That may be true, but
walls are causing more harm than good. Walls keep not only villains out, but they also keep out the
heroes or innocent people that have done nothing wrong. Walls are also a waste of time, money and
resources. Walls being created are sure to be torn down and all of that time is wasted. I think that walls

The Department Of Health And Human Services Essay
Creating a flowchart can help members of a team understand how a workflow process works and also
reduce unnecessary steps. By making a protocol appear simpler and easier to follow, the organization
can help nurses be more consistent with the protocol and therefore improve patient outcomes.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (n.d.), a flowchart helps provide a
visual aspect of the workflow by conveying the sequence and interactions of activities and tasks and
thus clarifying key work processes, identifying who performs what activities and tasks, recognizing
activities and tasks that should be performed by another person, and identifying unnecessary or non
value added activities and tasks that you might choose to eliminate (para. 2). The purpose of this paper
is to create a flowchart that identifies health conditions that may require a detainee to obtain medical
clearance from the emergency department (ED) before being admitted to the detention center.
Workflow Process of Admitting a New Detainee The current process of admitting new detainees in the
detention center that I work for starts by inmates arriving at the detention center accompanied by the
arresting officer. By following the fit for confinement protocols, the nurse can decide if a detainee can
be accepted into our facility or sent to ED to obtain medical clearance. The first step of the intake
screening process is asking the inmate if he/she has any deformity of bones or suspicion of

Graffiti Vandalistic Art
Walking down the streets of New York City, on the left the entire wall is covered in art, with a wide
spectrum of graffiti, ranging from the word New York to drawings of the Statue of Liberty and many
more pieces such as gang related phrases and drawings, the feeling of amazement is present. Graffiti,
being a freelance way of expressing good and bad emotions through art, is often frowned upon due to
vandalistic nature of most graffiti. Graffiti has been around since the late 1900 s and it is said that The
first modern graffiti writer is widely considered to be Cornbread... who in Philadelphia, started
tagging city walls to get the attention of a girl (De Melker). Graffiti has become more commonly
found in big towns and cities. In today s, time graffiti is beginning to be more than just gangs marking
territory and evolving into its own art form. From subway cars to the sides of walls and sometimes in
art galleries, graffiti can be found anywhere. Graffiti can be beautiful yet is very controversial form of
art and is used for many different reasons.
According to Eldridge, graffiti is an ancient form of human communication and can be found in ruins
dated to early civilizations. Graffiti has transformed from people just tagging things to a way of art.
Graffiti writing eventually became bigger and more stylized, developing from tags to pieces, short
masterpieces. Piecing demands decorative expression, artistic skill, and understanding of aerosol paint
control (Eldridge). Over the years, the way graffiti has been viewed has also changed. Although most
still see it as vandalism, those who actually like draw and are interested in art see graffiti as its own
form of art developing just like other forms of art, like music. Although graffiti is viewed as vandalism
to most there are some cases where graffiti is used as a way of self expression. In the T.V. series
Switched at Birth, Bay
Kennish puts her art on walls, billboards, and on her car as a way of wanting her art to be known to
others. She uses graffiti and drawing as a form of self expression. Other artist around the world use
graffiti to express themselves. For example, a street artist

Why I Need Literature Analysis
I can admit whole heartedly that Literature has saved my life.
Looking back, I have chosen literature over a lot of things, sometimes it was my family and friends
whose views on education differed greatly from my own, but most often I was choosing literature over
temptation; which, seductively presented itself all over the extremely urban streets of south central
L.A. Temptation is the reason many of my old friends are in jail now and why I am the only member
in my family to have graduated from high school. It has taken many people away from me, my friends
and family who have turned to drugs to numb the woes of their inherit circumstances and even my
father who is still in jail, that I have yet to and may never meet.
Literature offered me companionship and a place to be understood. It was sanctuary, my nurturer. I

of literature that would allow members to analyze another era of time and understand the struggles of
that time through the literature; as well as, other forms of literature like movie scripts, music lyrics,
and comic books to promote the diversity of literature in its many contemporary forms. Through
events like book drives and poetry slams we are able to reach out to people, who aren t even
necessarily English majors, and watch as literature enhances their lives as they voice their angst with
society through their poetry. The workshops I ran on poetry and creative writing as a means of self

In the book, the Pope has as relentless focus on mercy and forgiveness and indeed has called this year,
the Holy Year of Mercy. Critical to this is his reframing of sin. Rather than seeing it as something to be
despised, he sees it as an opportunity for mercy and forgiveness to manifest itself.
In religious terms, he writes about how the original sin meant humanity is forever wounded. This
means we can distinguish right from wrong, but we will inevitably falter. The mercy of God is such
that he sacrificed his Son, Jesus, to redeem humanity for its sins. And precisely because there is sin,

Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall
The air is cool and crisp. Roosters can be heard welcoming the sun to a new day and a woman is seen,
wearing a clean colorful wrap about her body and head, her shadow casting a lone silhouette on the
stone wall. The woman leans over to slide a piece of paper into one of the cracks, hoping her prayer
will be heard in this city of Jerusalem. Millions are inserting their prayers into the walls of Japanese

He blames it upon the cold ravages of a winter swell and the indifferent attitude of hunters searching
out a hare. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies of
elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season
(Lentricchia 105).
In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good
fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the wall
should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders. When
questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason why fences
make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s motivation. He seeks
to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by the activity (Barry 145). The
farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the speaker as an old stone savage
armed (Stanford 40).
Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does not take
the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. There is the speaker who seeks a
release from the dull ritual of work each spring and the farmer, who is trapped by work and the New
England past (Lentricchia 106). Two

EXTERNSHIP PAPER DRAFT
MAJJI GAYATRI (STUDENT ID 552692)
1. Courses I Am Taking This Quarter
In the first quarter I am enrolled for the hybrid course Project Management BA63177 H3 (Instructor
name is Dr. Eric S. Harter) and will be taking the Information technology from January 2018 in the
same semester. I requested for this plan because of my marriage in November 25th 2017. Thanks for
being flexible in timely manner.
2. Link outcomes from my 1st course to My Workplace
They Items I learnt and liked something interesting in the course , some of them are listed below
enterprise performance management, project monitoring ,project planning, and project management.
The enterprise performance management is it kind of framework for organizing analyzing the business
and this process used to rule the overall performance of the system. It is also helpful in the work
environment for driving the unified set of object into planning monitoring executing the deliverables.
It also improves the financial operations with efficient results. The most important term in the course
is project management which is the root of organizing and managing a project from scratch to the
completion of any project. Project manager role is important for any successful completion of the
project. The rules and responsibilities of the resources could be decided by the manager. Manager is
ideally responsible for making big decisions in the project. Scheduling the project is another important
aspect which adds the value to the project and provides the commitments. Initial stuff is planning
which defines the needs of the project and designs, define how to move forward with the project. This
also includes gathering the right resources for the right task and at the right time. The project manager
should be qualified enough to get the tasks or projects delivered in time.
In my job I have observed some of the concepts that I have learned in this course such as I have been
introduced to my project manager, so he has gathered the technical skills information from me and
analyzed in all perspectives and assigned me to the right project under the supervision of another
manager who is dedicated to that project. There I have observed how the

A warm summer breeze blows the aroma of freshly cut hay through the barn. The donkeys are

but it has also taught me valuable lessons about life that have contributed to who I am today. Growing

Working hard is essential to the prosperity of any size farm due to the amount of physical labor that
must be applied to each task. I grew up watching my parents and my brother put in long hours to
ensure the success of our crops. When I was old enough to join in, I did my best to mimic their solid

An Analysis of Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast
When a writer picks up their pen and paper, begins one of the most personal and cathartic experiences
in their lives, and forms this creation, this seemingly incoherent sets of words and phrases that, read
without any critical thinking, any form of analysis or reflexion, can be easily misconstrued as
worthless or empty. When one reads an author s work, in any shape or form, what floats off of the ink
of the paper and implants itself in our minds is the author s personality, their style. Reading any of the
greats, many would be able to spot the minute details that separates each author from another; whether
it be their use of dialogue, their complex descriptions, their syntax, or their tone. When reading an

I said that I did not believe that anyone could write any way except the very best he could write
without compromising his talent. This meta cognitive piece of writing is an exact reflection of
Hemingway s own work. His clinical tone is maintained straight up to the end of the chapter, where he
writes, I did not know Zelda yet, and so I did not know the terrible odds that were against him. But we
were to find them out soon enough. The gloom that carried us through the chapter concludes with an
end that foreshadows more pain and sorrow in the lives of both writers. While Hemingway s sullen
tone carries the underlying theme of his work, it is Hemingway s use of details, what he decides to
divulge into rich descriptions of and what he chooses to leave a mystery, that opens up a text that
comes across as simple to deeper analysis. Hemingway strays away from overly complicated
descriptions of events, keeping his thoughts focused on specific descriptions of character, and of
personal thoughts and opinions. Hemingway s detailed explanations in regards to his arguments with
Scott, such as their one on whether pneumonia is the correct term for a disease or not, and his detailed
recalling of his and Scott s adventures with a thermometer can easily come across as banal and self
indulgent. His detailed recollections of his first encounter with Scott, where he critiques his facial

The Life Of Catherine Malabou And Levi Bryant
Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant: A critical comparison of materialisms
Speculative materialism arose in response to the post Kantian philosophy of correlationism. Scholars
have since debated the relationship of the perceived (object) and the perceiver (subject). Kant s
transcendental materialist philosophy supports what Quentin Meillassoux terms weak correlationism
in that it allows for the thinking of the unknowable. However, strong correlationist (i.e. Heidegger and
Hegel) refute that humans can escape their own thoughts, therefore making it impossible to know or
even imagine that anything outside of the correlationist circle (objects in and of themselves) exists.
Both Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant can be seen as emphasizing speculative materialism in that
they attempt to move beyond this subject object correlate. While Malabou describes neuronal
plasticity in What Should We Do With Our Brain, Bryant focuses on machines and their ontology in
Onto Cartography: An Ontology of Machines and Media. Malabou s ultimate description of the
resistance and contradiction between the brain and mind fails to be accounted for by Bryant s ontology
and conception of machines . Bryant s object oriented ontology does little to explain the origin of
freedom in his machines (whereby we can begin to take charge of society); however, Bryant does
suggest the use of thermopolitics to attack institutions. Together, Malabou and Bryant s philosophies
provide new ways of thinking about

Cesar Chavez Elegy
Great people are what make this world a better place just like these people I am going to write about.
Elegy on the death of Cesar Chavez by Rudolfo Anaya is an elegy that is about when Cesar s death

so cheap by Albert Marrin is about a fire that took many people s lives and what they did during the

because he didn t just bring attention to the problem he did something to fix I think the people in the

but the world wouldn t be the same without them. One reason I think they did a good thing for the
world is, Onlookers saw many dreadful sights, none so more than the end of a love affair. [Marrin,13]
This shows that the people watching might of said something to fix the problem. Another quote is,

The Conservative Party Government Era During 1951-1964
The Conservative Party Government Era during 1951 1964 is a period which has been politically
criticized throughout the years specifically that of Britain Politics. During this time, the Conservative
government was said to have pursued mainly Keynesian economic policies which was centrally
focused on reducing inflation, to maintain growth and promote stability but despite the Conservatives
attempts to revive the Britain economy through industrialism, increase standard of living and
encouragement for consumerism there was the development of a stagnant economy which eventually
produced an increase in unemployment, inflation and interest rates for consumer products and loans.
The Labour government described the period of 1951 64 as Thirteen Wasted Years as they felt that
during this period Britain experienced economic chaos and turmoil. This was quite the opposite view
for that of the Conservatives, particularly Macmillan who expressed in his speech that the people had
... never had it so good and encouraged his supporters and opponents to ... Go around the country, go
to industrial towns, go to the farms and you will see a state of prosperity such as we have never had
before... This research paper will make reference to Andrew Boxer Thirteen Wasted Years and

In his extract Shanks evaluates that despite the economic process in the opportunities to the people
there was in fact no real growth placing Britain in the notion of being economically stagnant as the
nation known for its shop keepers and industrialization was in financial crises which seemed beyond
repair despite efforts made. Shanks exerts confirms the researcher stance that problems which were to
be seen as of vital importance were on the back burning and other political ideas placed on the

Review Of My Mind
Before watching Temple Grandin, I only knew of the little details that we had discussed in class, and
hearing stories of parents whom I know that have a child with autism. In my mind autism was
something small , only knowing a little less than a handful of people that have autism or have children
or family members with autism. With my little knowledge of the prominent disorder , the image of
autism were ones of those which I had heard stories, such as little to no speaking, continuous routines,
limited relationships, and anger. To me this was the definition of autism. Then the movie completely
opened my mind to things that I didn t know. Autism is not the same all around, every child s disorder
is different. Right off the bat, the movie really made my mind think. When temple is standing in the
room and looks very tall, and then moves to the other side and she gets smaller. I immediately
compared it to autism, and how just because the image appears one way, doesn t mean all images are
the same. Just as she was tall and got shorter the rage of autism varies, and what you see on the
outside isn t always what is going on the inside. This movie made that point very clear. In the begging
of the movie, temple goes to live with her aunt for the summer before she started college to hep her
get her mind off of things. You can see she has a hard time communicating, and needs a routine such
as her name on her door so she knows its her room. And if that norm or routine is

The Importance Of Birth Order
Have you ever wondered why siblings tend to have such contrasting personalities? This essay will
argue that the birth order affects the kind of person one becomes in various ways, by shaping them to
acquire specific characteristics and prospects that will remain through adulthood. Particular attention
will be given to the significance of family and environment, the ways that birth order affects the levels
of trustfulness, reciprocation and extraversion and finally how it influences the likelihood of making
or supporting new innovations in science. The family environment in which an individual grows up,
has substantial effects on the kind of person they become later in life. It has even been argued, that the
functional birth order, which is affected by the environment one grows up in, plays a bigger role in
moulding them into the people that they become later in life than the biological birth order (Sulloway,
1996). Courtiol, Raymond and Faurie (2009) investigated the significance of birth order on
trustfulness and reciprocation of individuals, with their hypothesis being that birth order would
influence adults behaviour towards non kin. The results of the experiment speak for themselves, as
they indicate that a distinct trend can be seen in the characteristics of people depending on their birth
order. According to Sulloway, it has been argued that the characteristic differences the birth order
forms, are the consequences of sibling competition for parental investment

Why Is Italian Immigration To The New World
Italian Immigration to the New World
Italians immigrated to the United States for many reasons. That could include being refugees, gaining
freedom, because of war, later on the great depression, ect. That all contributes in the beginning of the
1800 s where the immigrants came by boat and was welcomed to the U.S. in Ellis Island. Overall it is
who made their journey here, where part of Italy are they coming from.
In the beginning of the 1900 s is when a majority of the Italians came over. The reason was because of
how they were being treated, disasters and much more. When they were welcome here they were
starting fresh and did not know what they were getting into. Although the boat was not as exciting as it
would seem. It was very unhealthy

Educating Rita By Willy Russell
Educating Rita written in 1980 by Willy Russell, is a play that explores the way in which a working
class Liverpudlian woman, Rita (Susan), follows the change from unhappiness to happiness. The story
is a comedy, which revolves around the growing personal relationship between Rita, and her Open
University Literature tutor, Dr. Frank Byrant. Russell often mocks many parts of society at a time
when the play was set including education, social class and patriarchy.
Rita is used to create comedy within the play, and introduces her to a contrasting character, Frank, to
provide a difficult relationship. Rita is lively and bubbly from a working class background, where she
was not able to achieve the education that she would have liked, See if I d started taking school
seriously I would have been different from my mates, and that s not allowed. Frank, who is from a
middle class background, does not have the energy or enthusiasm for his work or teaching anymore.
This automatically creates conflict with one another, as they have been brought up living within two
very different environments. When Rita has her first lesson, Frank is clearly very unenthusiastic about
having to teach Rita, because she came in so confidently, ready to learn and extremely enthusiastic the
opposite to how Frank was feeling at the time. Apart from their difference in class, Frank and Rita
struggle to communicate to start with. There is use of colloquial, working class Liverpudlian dialect,
which

Changes Of Aging
As people age over time, they have a way of changing both psychological and biological. These
changes affect everyone in different ways and the changes that can take place over the years can vary
from individual to individual. For the human brain, there s no such thing as over the hill.
Psychologists researching the normal changes of aging have found that although some aspects of
memory and processing change as people get older, simple behavior changes can help people stay
sharp for as long as possible. Although researchers are still piecing together what happens in a healthy
aging brain, they can explain some typical changes (Memory Changes in Older Adults, 2006).

Semantic memory is generally derived from episodic memory, in that we learn new facts or concepts
from our experiences, and episodic memory is considered to reinforce semantic memory
(Zimmermann, 2014). It is agreed by researches that there is a transition from episodic to semantic
memory. With that being said, not all sematic memory is developed from episodic memory. A gradual
transition from episodic to semantic memory can take place, in which episodic memory reduces its
sensitivity and association to particular events, so that the information can be generalized as semantic
memory (Episodic Sematic Memory) . This is important to understand within this process due to the
fact that this allows individuals to store information as general knowledge. Both the episodic and
sematic memory process involve and require a similar encoding

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid To Aid or Not to Aid Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid, through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment, medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city, state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In contrast, according to Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on foreign aid . With the state of the world today, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many patients who live in these communities have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake assessments, reading their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional resources for this population should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low literacy literature for these patients. • 4. Biblical Symbols Of The Bible Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp from one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background knowledge to be able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have been countless attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by Origen of Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I will be using this structure to explain a passage found in the Bible to its greatest potential. Afterwards, I will be analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us. One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body, narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark 12:1 12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesus tells the chief priests, teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from the vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A Detailed Authoritative Background Analysis On Aerotoxic... The following report provides a detailed authoritative background analysis on Aerotoxic Syndrome. The report is broken up into four sections, comprising firstly the nature of the problem, and how it affects all stakeholders, followed by the controversies related to the topic, with potential solutions to such controversies. Next in the report is the identification and prioritisation of appropriate risk controls, and finally an indication of immediate and long term actions the airline carrier can take when a crew member appears to be suffering from the illness, Aerotoxic Syndrome. Ultimately, the report as a whole will aid your airline carrier surrounding the issues of Aerotoxic Syndrome now and into the future. Aerotoxic Syndrome is an illness that is caused by breathing in toxic fumes inside of the jet aircraft. This is caused by the air intake on a plane, which comes from the engine where it sucks in the air and pumps it into the cabin, but the toxic oils and other substances in the engine can easily leak into the airflow and contaminate the air that all passengers and staff breath. A very common leakage is the leakage of the jet engine lubricant oil, tricresyl phosphate, otherwise known as TCP or TOCP. The Government and regulatory authorities have conducted researches that have admitted to the association between the contamination of the cabin air to chronic health problems, but they have not admitted to specific causation. • 7. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Personality Analysis One of the aims of Social psychologists is to research and explain individual differences in behaviour. Theories of personality were developed between different but related strands such as clinical, psychometric and experimental tradition; they looked at people behaviour to find out why individuals act and respond to stimuli differently in common situations (Butt, 2012). Behaviour, emotion and thought are the qualities that characterise each individual while he interacts with the social environment, i.e. the definition of what is understood by personality. As cited by Butt (2012) traits are relatively enduring ways in which an individual differs from another (Butt, 2012 p.46). Two different approaches have their theory about personality: trait theory by Eysenck (1965) which has origins from the psychometric tradition of measurement based on the experimental approach and Kelly s (1995) personal construct ... Trait theory was developed from the psychometric tradition by Eysenck and Ranchman (1964) that used variables such as cognitive ability and IQ to assess individual differences; however, criticism argued that IQ tests would favour only white middle class. Eysenck (1965) adopted a nomothetic approach, which classifies personality dimensions, to measure and describe the individual differences of personality. In Eysenck s and Ranchman (1964) approach, the science of personality was a means of clarifying psychiatric classification. He believed that individual s behaviour, i.e. personality, is influenced by biological characteristics: causal factors at a neurological level can influence individual s temperament and behaviour. A Christmas carol by Charles Dickens is a significant novella written in the Victorian era. The protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge is used to demonstrate the upper class society and their attitude towards the poor. Throughout this redemption story, Dickens combines a descriptions of hardships faced by the poor with a heart felt sentimental celebration of the Christmas season. The novella contains a dramatic and comic element as well as a deep felt moral theme. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author illustrates that Scrooge who is depicted as hard and sharp as a flint is a greedy miser whom is so old and coldhearted that nothing other than his profits will phase him. Dickens uses the scene when the ghost of Christmas past, a child like old man uses flashbacks to show Scrooge of the memories he once made to show the nature of the much younger character. This is evident when Fan a little girl much younger than Scrooge had brought out the affection of her older brother as they planned to be together all the Christmas long, and have the merriest time in all the world. What is important about this example is not just that it shows the compassion Scrooge once felt but also that Scrooge is not truly crooked and horrible to the core establishing the uplifting and inspiring feeling to readers. The title of the novella, A Christmas Carol, is immediately recognized by the reader as hardly appropriate for the first stave. Stave one does not resemble the happy and cheerful world of Christmas trees and presents, but instead the reader is exposed to, what can only be described as, ghost story features. In these systems, the regimes possess some of these characteristics but have found ways to manipulate the system to consolidate their power. Rather than openly violating democratic rules (for example, by banning or repressing the opposition and the media), incumbents are more likely to use bribery, co optation, and more subtle forms of persecution, such as the use of tax authorities, compliant judiciaries, and other state agencies to legally harass, persecute, or extort cooperative behavior from critics . While it is apparent that these regimes are not fully democratic, it would be unfair to label them as fully authoritarian either. Unlike traditional totalitarian governments, the persistence of true democratic institutions in competitive authoritarian regimes allows the opposition to contest, weaken and occasionally even defeat autocratic incumbents. While these situations are generally uncommon, these situations are possible in competitive authoritarianism due to four independent means, the electoral arena, the legislature, the judiciary and the media. These four branches are virtually independent of the executive control however, unlike in democracies, the competitive authoritarian regimes use its power to undermine their independence. The first individual was a little girl named Kelly who became death due to a disease that impaired her hair cells in her cochlea. Growing up she received a hearing aid, however the device got progressively worse. She explained to the producers that she could slightly hear some noise but nothing was definite anymore, and all she wanted in life was to actually hear noise such as the running river and fully talk to her family. Due to her circumstance doctors decided to perform a surgery to permanently fix or better her hearing. For Kelly s surgery doctors decided to permanently implant electrodes into her ear, by attaching an electrode array into the inner ear (cochlea) and a receiver which is placed behind the ear. By doing this each device will be connected to a magnet and an antenna making sound signals channel through her brain. Analysis of Randall Jarrell s The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One of these writers was Randall Jarrell. Jarrell uses a great deal of imagery in this poem to help the reader get a better picture of what is going on. In the first line of the poem Jarrell uses visual, auditory and tactile imagery. When he uses the words, mother s sleep, the reader can see the mother laying in her bed sound asleep. Also the reader can hear the deep breaths that the mother is taking while she slumbers. The reader gets the tactile image when the author says, I fell, because almost everyone has experienced the falling sensation before. Since the word, State, is capitalized one can see that Jarrell is talking about some form of government. The reader gets the visual image of a government sitting around planning something big. In the second line of the poem, And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze, the reader gets visual, tactile and thermal imagery. First of all the reader can see a person hunched, with his knees almost at his chest, in the belly of something. Also the reader can see a person with a fur coat that is almost covered in ice. The thermal imagery comes in when Jarrell says the word, froze. The reader can feel the cold coming from the frozen jacket as he reads the poem. (Beck and Davis) The direct effect that focusing the mind on the present moment has on reducing anxiety and its symptoms are largely important. The idea of not controlling one s thoughts, but redirecting them to the present moment is a fairly hard concept for most people to fully understand. Redirecting one s thoughts to the present moment distracts the mind from any worry some or anxiety inducing thoughts or feelings, without giving attention to them. The redirection of thoughts essentially keeps the mind occupied, which means the mind has less time to spend worrying or cultivating anxiety inducing scenarios in one s mind. In relation to the redirection of thoughts being effective in reducing anxiety, it also has been proven to reduce physical symptoms of anxiety or discomfort. By reverting attention away from pre existing physical discomforts, these same discomforts are given time to subside, which they typically do immensely, solely because it isn t the focus of one s attention. Although some could not interpret the song s meaning, it was exactly what many youths needed to hear . By drawing attention to specific verses and changes in rhythm, Compton applies that the song articulated the emotions of America s youth. As for pathos, Compton generally tries to connect with his audience by stating how the word contagious is used in the lyrics. Because no one wants to be around that person, they will look at the person with disgust, as if they have some highly contagious disease. Although sufficient in ethos and pathos, logos were not used in Compton s essay. Since this is an analysis of a song, it does not affect the effect of the essay. I do not think that Compton has adequately accomplished his purpose. From subway cars to the sides of walls and sometimes in art galleries, graffiti can be found anywhere. Graffiti can be beautiful yet is very controversial form of art and is used for many different reasons. According to Eldridge, graffiti is an ancient form of human communication and can be found in ruins dated to early civilizations. Graffiti has transformed from people just tagging things to a way of art. Graffiti writing eventually became bigger and more stylized, developing from tags to pieces, short masterpieces. Piecing demands decorative expression, artistic skill, and understanding of aerosol paint control (Eldridge). Over the years, the way graffiti has been viewed has also changed. Although most still see it as vandalism, those who actually like draw and are interested in art see graffiti as its own form of art developing just like other forms of art, like music. Although graffiti is viewed as vandalism to most there are some cases where graffiti is used as a way of self expression. In the T.V. series Switched at Birth, Bay Kennish puts her art on walls, billboards, and on her car as a way of wanting her art to be known to others. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies of elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season (Lentricchia 105). In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the wall should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders. When questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason why fences make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s motivation. He seeks to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by the activity (Barry 145). The farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the speaker as an old stone savage armed (Stanford 40). Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does not take the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. The Life Of Catherine Malabou And Levi Bryant Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant: A critical comparison of materialisms Speculative materialism arose in response to the post Kantian philosophy of correlationism. Scholars have since debated the relationship of the perceived (object) and the perceiver (subject). Kant s transcendental materialist philosophy supports what Quentin Meillassoux terms weak correlationism in that it allows for the thinking of the unknowable. However, strong correlationist (i.e. Heidegger and Hegel) refute that humans can escape their own thoughts, therefore making it impossible to know or even imagine that anything outside of the correlationist circle (objects in and of themselves) exists. Both Catherine Malabou and Levi Bryant can be seen as emphasizing speculative materialism in that they attempt to move beyond this subject object correlate. While Malabou describes neuronal plasticity in What Should We Do With Our Brain, Bryant focuses on machines and their ontology in Onto Cartography: An Ontology of Machines and Media. Malabou s ultimate description of the resistance and contradiction between the brain and mind fails to be accounted for by Bryant s ontology and conception of machines . The Labour government described the period of 1951 64 as Thirteen Wasted Years as they felt that during this period Britain experienced economic chaos and turmoil. This was quite the opposite view for that of the Conservatives, particularly Macmillan who expressed in his speech that the people had ... never had it so good and encouraged his supporters and opponents to ... • 41. Review Of My Mind Before watching Temple Grandin, I only knew of the little details that we had discussed in class, and hearing stories of parents whom I know that have a child with autism. In my mind autism was something small , only knowing a little less than a handful of people that have autism or have children or family members with autism. With my little knowledge of the prominent disorder , the image of autism were ones of those which I had heard stories, such as little to no speaking, continuous routines, limited relationships, and anger. To me this was the definition of autism. Then the movie completely opened my mind to things that I didn t know. Autism is not the same all around, every child s disorder is different. Right off the bat, the movie really made my mind think. When temple is standing in the room and looks very tall, and then moves to the other side and she gets smaller. I immediately compared it to autism, and how just because the image appears one way, doesn t mean all images are the same. Just as she was tall and got shorter the rage of autism varies, and what you see on the outside isn t always what is going on the inside. This movie made that point very clear. In the begging of the movie, temple goes to live with her aunt for the summer before she started college to hep her get her mind off of things. You can see she has a hard time communicating, and needs a routine such as her name on her door so she knows its her room. And if that norm or routine is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Birth Order Have you ever wondered why siblings tend to have such contrasting personalities? This essay will argue that the birth order affects the kind of person one becomes in various ways, by shaping them to acquire specific characteristics and prospects that will remain through adulthood. Particular attention will be given to the significance of family and environment, the ways that birth order affects the levels of trustfulness, reciprocation and extraversion and finally how it influences the likelihood of making or supporting new innovations in science. The family environment in which an individual grows up, has substantial effects on the kind of person they become later in life. It has even been argued, that the functional birth order, which is affected by the environment one grows up in, plays a bigger role in moulding them into the people that they become later in life than the biological birth order (Sulloway, 1996). Courtiol, Raymond and Faurie (2009) investigated the significance of birth order on trustfulness and reciprocation of individuals, with their hypothesis being that birth order would influence adults behaviour towards non kin. The results of the experiment speak for themselves, as they indicate that a distinct trend can be seen in the characteristics of people depending on their birth order. According to Sulloway, it has been argued that the characteristic differences the birth order forms, are the consequences of sibling competition for parental investment ... • 44. Educating Rita By Willy Russell Educating Rita written in 1980 by Willy Russell, is a play that explores the way in which a working class Liverpudlian woman, Rita (Susan), follows the change from unhappiness to happiness. The story is a comedy, which revolves around the growing personal relationship between Rita, and her Open University Literature tutor, Dr. Frank Byrant. Russell often mocks many parts of society at a time when the play was set including education, social class and patriarchy. Rita is used to create comedy within the play, and introduces her to a contrasting character, Frank, to provide a difficult relationship. Rita is lively and bubbly from a working class background, where she was not able to achieve the education that she would have liked, See if I d started taking school seriously I would have been different from my mates, and that s not allowed. Frank, who is from a middle class background, does not have the energy or enthusiasm for his work or teaching anymore. This automatically creates conflict with one another, as they have been brought up living within two very different environments. When Rita has her first lesson, Frank is clearly very unenthusiastic about having to teach Rita, because she came in so confidently, ready to learn and extremely enthusiastic the opposite to how Frank was feeling at the time. Apart from their difference in class, Frank and Rita struggle to communicate to start with. There is use of colloquial, working class Liverpudlian dialect, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Changes Of Aging As people age over time, they have a way of changing both psychological and biological. These changes affect everyone in different ways and the changes that can take place over the years can vary from individual to individual. For the human brain, there s no such thing as over the hill. Psychologists researching the normal changes of aging have found that although some aspects of memory and processing change as people get older, simple behavior changes can help people stay sharp for as long as possible. Although researchers are still piecing together what happens in a healthy aging brain, they can explain some typical changes (Memory Changes in Older Adults, 2006). Semantic memory is generally derived from episodic memory, in that we learn new facts or concepts from our experiences, and episodic memory is considered to reinforce semantic memory (Zimmermann, 2014). It is agreed by researches that there is a transition from episodic to semantic memory. With that being said, not all sematic memory is developed from episodic memory. A gradual transition from episodic to semantic memory can take place, in which episodic memory reduces its sensitivity and association to particular events, so that the information can be generalized as semantic memory (Episodic Sematic Memory) . This is important to understand within this process due to the fact that this allows individuals to store information as general knowledge.
