Texas Tech University Application Research Paper
Throughout my life, I have most definitely been driven to assist my community or others in need. I
have been able to set aside time and put forth effort when it was necessary. Along my years in junior
high and high school, I have assisted my community by collecting cans for our local food bank,
providing food for our veterans, cleaning the church area, helping with local food fundraisers, taking
down Christmas trees for the public, and other activities. This has affected me in an influential way
and made me realize that devoting time to other activities or people is greatly appreciated and
beneficial. Although there may not be a reward given, the simple satisfaction of knowing you
volunteered willingly is enough. For my future, I wish to attend Texas Tech University and take the
required courses in order to attain a masters degree in nursing. With this degree, it will allow me to
pursue a career in the medical field to become a certified nurse midwife. Because I will be continuing
my education in the Lubbock area, I intend to begin my career and maintain an occupation in the same
area. However, I would be more than willing to move wherever my job would take me. ... Show more

Fascism, Nietzsche, Power
Fascism, Nietzsche, Power
Nietzsche s writing about power dynamics and the creation of the strong and weak, the good and the
bad, is very closely intertwined with the workings of fascist ideology, and how it understands itself to
be strong. In a Nietzschean sense, however, fascism ultimately fails to be truly strong because it
creates itself as a reformed moralistic approach to power, rather than freeing itself from moralism.
More specifically, the construction of the Jews as weak by those who subscribe to fascist ideology,
and the portrayal of themselves as strong, is almost wholly antithetical Nietzsche s actual position
concerning power dynamics. Instead, as Nietzsche lays out in The Genealogy of Morals, real power is
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nietzsche explains this struggle as a slave morality, which can only survive if it has a force that acts
against it so its existence is justified; the role of opposition to the slave morality is occupied by the
strong. He writes In order to exist at all, slave morality from the outset always needs an opposing,
outer world; in physiological terms, it needs external stimuli in order to act its action is fundamentally
reaction (Genealogy of Morals 22). The morality of the strong is precisely the antithesis of this: it
justifies itself by reaffirming the strength of itself they justify their behaviors by reaffirming their own
lives, not by placing their lives in juxtaposition with the lives of the weak. Nietzsche expands this,
saying The opposite is the case with the aristocratic mode of evaluation: this acts and grows
spontaneously, it only seeks out its antithesis in order to affirm itself more thankfully and more
joyfully (Genealogy 22).
What fascists fail to recognize, however, is that fascism does not transcend the need to fight an
opposing force it does not exist without some external stimuli to which the fascists are always
responding. The Jews are constructed as the epitome of this slave morality ; they are the weak people
subjected by the aristocratically strong fascists. But, fascism moralizes in exactly the same way as the
Jews do for Nietzsche;

The Case, The Hela Case Has Raised Questions About The...
I choose Henrietta Lacks study case, the HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using
genetic materials without permission. Neither Mrs. Lacks nor her family granted permission to harvest
her cells, which were then cloned and sold since the 1950s. Recently, scientists at the European
Molecular Biology Laboratory published the genome of a line of HeLa cells, making it publicly
available for downloading. Another study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at the
University of Washington, was about to be published in Nature. The Lacks family was made aware of
neither project.
Eric S. Lander, the founding director of the Broad Institute, a science research center at Harvard and
M.I.T., said resolving these issues is crucial to taking advantage of the knowledge hidden in our
genomes. If we are going to solve cancer, it s going to take a movement of tens of thousands, or
hundreds of thousands, of patients willing to contribute information from their cancer genomes
towards a common good, Dr. Lander said. We are going to need to have ways to have patients feel
comfortable doing that. We can t do it without a foundation of respect and trust.
Henrietta Lacks was born Loretta Pleasant on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia, at some point she
changed her name to Henrietta. On January 1951 Mrs. Lack arrived at her local doctor with abdominal
pain, and profuse vaginal bleeding, she was tested for syphilis, which came back negative, and

What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window
I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1954.
Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub genre
suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock s highly inspired
audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated.
Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the
film.
The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel
chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his
neighbor s room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what s
happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs
watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance
with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of
dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long
shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and
sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front
of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock
Editing shouldn t be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963,
p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections
of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot
another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism
practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

The Heroic and Honorable Knight in The Canterbury Tales ...
Knights are one of the most mistaken figures of the medieval era due to fairytales and over
exaggerated fiction novels. When medieval knights roamed the earth, it was known that they were
only human and, like humans, had faults. These knights did not always live up to the standards
designated by society. However, in The Canterbury Tales, the knight is revealed as a character that
would now be considered a knight in shining armor, a perfect role model in how he acts and what he
does. Modern day people see them as chivalrous figures instead of their actual role as mounted cavalry
soldiers. As time passes, the idea of what a knight is changes from a simple cavalry soldier to a
specific type of behavior.
Historically, knights were not very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Canterbury Tales, the knight is a modern type of knight. Although the description of this
character s personality is vague, it is not hard for modern day people to visualize him. In the prologue,
it mentions that the knight follows the five basic ideals that a good knight should possess: chivalry,
Truth, honour, generousness, and courtesy (Chaucer 4). The knight fought in the Crusades, wars in
which Europeans traveled by sea to non Christian places and tried to convert people s culture by brute
force, which was considered noble and brave hearted. From his love of the five basics ideals
previously mentioned to his impressive military career, the knight is a perfect example of how a
knight should be represented. Indirectly, the tale is discussing both the knight and the idea of how a
knight should be. The tale does not describe much about the knight as in physical appearances and
characteristics of this knight but as the tale comes to an end, the book starts to unfold how this story
connects with this character. The tale itself is not important yet it s what the tale represents that is
important, such as pursuing courtly love, risking death, and respecting women. All of the previously
mentioned attributes are ones that knights should possess to achieve expected standards.
A knight s characteristics are usually described by using power and authority but, in actuality, the
knight is just a servant to a higher authority. An

The Effect Of Hatshepsut On The Metropolitan Museum Of...
In 1923, excavators from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Herbert E. Winlock (Museum
Egyptologist), found fragments of statues belonging to the time of Hatshepsut when they began
clearing the area in front of the temples of Hatshepsut and Mentuhotep II. As a result further
excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926 27,
1927 28, and 1928 29. These excavations were predominantly carried out in two important locations: a
depression southeast of Deir el Bahri temple (also called the Hatshepsut Hole ) and a quarry northeast
of the temple. [1] The Metropolitan Museum crew started to reassemble these fragments and by 1931
the reconstructions were complete and offered a rather large collection of statues and objects from
Hatshepsut s temple. More statues have survived of Hatshepsut than any other Egyptian Pharaoh.
Ironically, this was due to the destruction of these statues a mere twenty years after they were created.
Hatshepsut ascended to the Egyptian throne in 1473 B.C and co ruled with her stepson and nephew,
Thutmose III. While Hatshepsut was not first woman in Egypt to be a king, she was nonetheless, the
most important in terms of the influence of her reign on the culture of ancient Egypt. During her reign
as Pharaoh there was an explosion of artistic creativity, which can be seen clearly in the reconstruction
of her temple at Deir el Bahri in western Thebes. Deir el Bahri is considered to be one of the great

Name of the business: Dawson Lumber Company
Nature of the business: Wholesale Lumber Business
Marketing Analysis:
The Dawson Lumber Company was founded in the 1870s by the Dawson family to market the lumber
on their land. In 1950, Dawson Lumber owned four small lumber yards in the Corn wall area, each
operating as a separate company. However, in 1965, J.H. Dawson became president and amalgamated
the four companies into the Dawson Lumber Company. The company had acquired seven more
lumber yards north and west of Cornwall, Ontario but further growth was limited by J.H. Dawson s
belief that growth should only be financed by internally generated funds. For over one hundred years,

Financial Analysis:
Strictly speaking, at present the Dawson Lumber Company is being financed by a bank loan. The
company s equity structure constitutes common stock capital amounting to $4.3 million and the
accumulated earnings. Presently, the company s financing needs are met through two types of bank
loans which include a working capital loan obtained specifically to meet the working capital
requirements and the present long term loan amounting to 4.2 million. Both the loans are obtained
from National bank of Canada (NBC). The NBC took accounts receivable and inventory as collateral
and as a condition of the loan against the charge on the borrowed amount for which Dawson
undertook to provide quarterly financial statements and monthly reports of inventory, sales and
receivables.
Now as far as the company s cash flow is concerned, the company has been suffered with very weak
cash flows because inventory and receivables have increased which result in negative cash flows and
due to increased in accounts payable resulting in positive cash flow thus overall cash generated from
operations remain intact. However as mentioned above it is operational inefficiency due to delay in
collection from customers resulting in delay in payments to creditor. The current ratio is at satisfactory
level.

The Diagnosis Of Cancer, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, And Hiv Aids
The diagnosis is one of the most important factors which influence the outcome of diseases but still it
is ignored on a large scale by people. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS, and
tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties. The
physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to notice
the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. In India, 70 percent of cancer patients consult the
doctor at the terminal stage, according to doctors. Thus, late diagnosis of diseases is a serious concern
globally and rigorous research is being done to invent innovative techniques to tackle this problem. In
this study, the cases of breast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cancer tumor often produces a specific protein in the blood that serves as a marker for the cancer.
Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood stream.
Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This method is
not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer. Hence, other tests
are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer.
For example, presence of CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) marker is associated with colon, lung, and
liver cancer. It also suggests that breast cancer has travelled to other parts of body. iii) Breast MRI:
MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a technology that uses magnets and radio waves to produce
detailed cross sectional images of the inside of the body. Breast MRI has a number of different uses
for breast cancer, including: screening high risk women (women known to be at higher than average
risk for breast cancer, either because of a strong family history or a gene abnormality), and gathering
more information about an area of suspicion found on a mammogram or ultrasound, monitoring for
recurrence after treatment. iv) FISH Test: Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) is a test that
maps the genetic material in a person s cells. This test can be used to visualize specific genes or

The Jagged Edges of a Shattered American Dream in Death of...
The American dream is an ideal for all Americans to get the best out of life. It stands for an easy and
comfortable life, which makes you independent and your own boss. Historically, the American dream
meant a promise of freedom and opportunity, offering the chance of riches even to those who start
with nothing. This is something that Arthur Miller conveys in his play Death of a Salesman. Before
the Depression, an optimistic America offered the alluring promise of success and riches. Willy
Loman, Millers main character suffers from his disenchantment with the American dream, for it fails
him and his son. In some ways, Willy and his older son Biff seem trapped in a transitional period of
American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Willy has a waning career as a salesman and is an aging man who considers himself to
be a failure but is incapable of consciously admitting it. As a result, the drama of the play lays not so
much in its events, but in Willy s deluded perception and recollection of them. [1]
Miller uses many characters to contrast the difference between success and failure in the American
system. Willy Loman is a deluded salesman whose vivid imagination is far greater than his sales
ability. Linda, Willy s wife, honourably stands by her husband even in the absence of essential
realism. To some extent, she acknowledges Willy s aspirations but, naively, she also accepts them.
Consequently, Linda is not part of the solution but rather part of the problem with this dysfunctional
family and their inability to face reality. In restraining Willy from his quest for wealth in the Alaska,
the New Continent [2], ironically the only realm where the dream can be fulfilled, Linda destroys any
hope the family has of achieving greatness . Even so, Linda symbolically embodies the play s ultimate
value: love. In her innocent love of Willy, Linda accepts her husband s falsehood, his dream, but, in
her admiration of his dream, she is lethal. Linda encourages Willy and, in doing so, allows her sons,
Biff and Happy, to follow their father s misleading direction in life. [3]

What Is The Purpose Of The Movie Carrie
As far as what the purpose of the movie Carrie is I think is to show that everything has consequences.
In this particular instance I believe it s the bullying that brings out the latent psychic ability of Carrie.
The character of Carrie seems to be very introverted and just trying to keep her head down and avoid
attention. Unfortunately, in the shower scene when she gets her menstrual period. For the first time,
she panics she didn t know what was going on and the other girls do nothing but throw cruel taunts at

Porter s Five Forces Analysis Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Porter s Five Forces Analysis of Pharmaceutical Industry
Porter s Five Competitive Forces Analysis is a framework developed by Michael E. Porter of Harvard
Business School for study of industry analysis by analyzing five competitive forces which define
industry and its business strategy. These five competitive forces determine the competitive advantages,
disadvantages and attractiveness or profitability of industry.
We analyzed the Indian Pharmaceutical industry on these five forces and the findings of industry
competitiveness and profitability are written under the relevant competitive forces.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
In pharmaceutical industry, the end user of the product (patient) is different from the influencer
(doctor) influencing his decisions. This is a unique feature of pharmaceutical industry.
Consumer/Patient behavior in India suggests that he will buy whatever medicine is prescribed by his
doctor or physician. Therefore we can say that doctors influence the buying power of buyers. In
branded market like India patients/pharmacists cannot usually substitute ... Show more content on

In pharma industry the raw materials mainly consist of organic chemicals. The need of different
organic chemicals depends on the chemical formulae of drug. Pharmaceutical industry depends on
various different organic chemicals for the production of end drugs. The chemical industry itself is
very competitive and also very fragmented because their products (organic chemicals) are
standardized and steps to produce them are also standardized. The chemicals used in pharma industry
are commodity as pharmaceutical companies do production on economies of scale to lower the cost.
The suppliers have low bargaining power because companies can switch to a new supplier without
incurring a high cost. But there is a threat from supplier if it decides to go for forward integration and

Business Analysis
Introduction
The sources of new business ideas come from a variety of places. It could be from a problem that
needs to be solved from a consumer, existing knowledge in a business and a vision to improve, or
recognizing an alternative use for a new technology. While ideas are plentiful, the ability to bring that
idea to fruition, and create a profitable business from it, is much more difficult.
Examples
The example from chapter 4 was interesting on Elon Musk (Hisrich, Peters, Shepherd, 2017). His
ability to build a business, sell it, then build a bigger business, gives insight that he is more interested
in solving large seemingly insurmountable, problems than holding on to a business. Musk is not afraid
of big risks. His legacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Failure can appropriately encourage better choices in the future. His idea generation came in the form
of knowing the business he was getting into and combining another business to complement the
current venture. Without moving forward in his education and obtaining a job to learn how to dig into
financials of a company, he would not have had the opportunity to generate his idea. There is a video
that is shown in many continuing education classes on IDEO, which is a company in California that
takes an existing product and makes it better. Through observation, industry study, and a variety of
other methods, the innovation team that consists of a biologist, psychologist, MBA graduate, and an
engineer, among others, generates ideas through problem solving and creative visualizing. They
quickly boil down the ideas into something that can be manufactured and meets core requirements of
the customer to produce prototypes. They take the best ideas from the prototypes and create the final
recommendation. Their structured process to idea creation is fascinating, from a diverse team aspect,
as well as efficiency. It seems chaotic at times but repeatedly they have produced products for existing
companies such as the new shopping cart at Fresh Market and Whole Foods, shoes that pump up and
toothbrushes with varying bristle lengths. Another example of a product created

Create a set of services that enables efficient data capture, storage, retrieval and analytics, which are
scalable to the national level and respectful of institutional autonomy and patient privacy. Mandel et
al. (2016) described SMART as an interoperability project with the distinctive goal of developing a
platform to enable medical applications to be written once and run unmodified across different
healthcare IT systems. HL7 FHIR Standard Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR,

tremendous following with significant investments from academic, government, and commercial
sectors. For instance, both Cerner and Epic, the two largest EHR vendors in the United States, have
committed to development based on FHIR. FHIR differs from past HL7 messaging standards in that it
takes a more service oriented approach to information exchange that combines data (e.g., patient,
encounter, practitioner, lab result) with operations that can be performed on them (e.g., read, create,
update, query). These operations are invoked using commodity networking protocols that are simple
and straightforward to implement. According to the HL7 s

What Does Jim Casey Represent In The Grapes Of Wrath
The novel The Grapes of Wrath , by John Steinbeck, the main theme is Dignity of the Wrath.
Throughout the novel the Joad family, and new friends found along the way face a series of very
unfortunate events. The family found themselves in debt that they could not get out of. Which led
them to be tractored out because the bank now owned their land. In turn, they have to leave their
family farm, and head out west to California to find work. John Steinbeck, the author, uses the death
of the Joad s family dog, Jim Casey s death, and Rose of Sharon s Pregnancy as symbols that all tie
into the major theme, Dignity of the Wrath. On the way out to California the Joad family stops at a
nearby gas station to get gas and water. The Joad family members were talking to the rude gas station
employee as he tried to accuse them of being beggars. Without them knowing the dog had gotten out
of the truck to get water. They were not paying attention to the dog when he stood up and ran onto the

Malnutrition in Developing Countries
Anger and Loneliness
Topic Background:
The ever growing problem of malnutrition plagues our world in the nations that cannot handle such a
weight. Malnutrition is a dangerous state where a human is so deprived of the nutrients vital for
survival that they are subject to death. The most important factors of malnutrition in countries that
may be in a state of development are food insecurity water availability and food quality. For any type
of solution to work, it is a guarantee that at least one of these must be taken into consideration.
Currently 20 million people on the brink of starvation in the most undeveloped countries. In Somalia,
Yemen, South Sudan, and Nigeria this problem is most relevant and this problem is always on the
rise.1 A new report by the WFP shows that world hunger is on a large rise due to internal/external
conflicts and climate change.2 According to The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World
Report 2017, some 155 million children aged under five are stunted or too short. In addition to this, it
seems that while 52 million suffer from wasting, meaning their weight is too low for their height, an
estimated 41 million children are now overweight.3 Anaemia among women and adult obesity are also
cause for concern. More factors that are a main cause of malnutrition is big agricultural struggles,
conflict leading to farming unproductivity, and improper distribution of food

The Horrifying World Forster Creates in The Machine Stops...
The Horrifying World Forster Creates in The Machine Stops
In The Machine Stops Forster creates a world set in the future, where machines rule. In fact, machines
run life so much so that human beings, by this time, have adapted accordingly to life and the lifestyle
it brings. In the arm chair there sits a swaddled lump of flesh a woman, about five feet high, with a
face as white as a fungus, Forster writes. This is a pretty horrific description because it shows us that
in the world Forster has created, people get no exercise whatsoever. There is in fact no need to get any
exercise with the life the humans lead under the control of The Machine. Infants [are] examined at
birth, and all who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Life then cannot go on! It is often perceived that life is better and easier with machines but it is eerie
to think of what will happen without them, as they are the ones that actually truly have the control.
Again, it is often thought that with the machines man is able to control everything, but what if in truth
The Machine is actually reactionary to society and civilization? Life then becomes less secure than we
care to believe.
So changes in lifestyle indeed have occurred, and the main one being that people basically need not
ever to leave the comfort of their own home! Video telephone calls are available, so it is possible to
call people and see them visually during the conversation but therefore, in this world Forster has
created, no one really ever sees anyone face to face, up close and personal. This seems negligible
though, but it actually leads onto much greater consequences. People in this world are now haunted by
the terrors of direct experience and direct experiences are things that are simply bound to happen
sometime in life! However, now people have grown unaccustomed to it, so even a simple handshake is
considered as shockingly barbaric. People never touched one another, Forster writes. Human beings
are no longer used to seeing expressions on people s faces, as they simply do not require to go out of
their homes and make acquaintances. They

England in 1819 Essay
England in 1819 Great poetry is great not because of what it says but because of how it is phrased.
Few poems say anything that is very profound; instead, the best of them use language in novel,
memorable, and effective ways. Certainly this is true of Percy Bysshe Shelley s famous sonnet
England in 1819. In this poem Shelley describes the depressing, dark, and dirty state of affairs caused
in Britain by political, social, and spiritual corruption. However, this poem would not be nearly as
effective if it were not for Shelley s powerful use of such classic rhetorical devices as adjectives,
alliteration, assonance, imagery, irony, lists, themes, and verbs. One device that Shelley employs very
potently is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3); graves and may (l. 13). Such use of assonance gives the poem rhythm and makes it more beautiful.
[VERY NICE] A fourth device that Shelley makes use of is imagery. The poem is full of such
description and figureS of speech. Shelley uses many violent images, such as the leechlike (l. 5) image
of a king who sucks the blood out of his countrymen. The king is blind in blood (l. 6), the blood of his
own people. If it was not enough that the king sucks the blood out of his countrymen, BUT he also
HAS starved and stabbed (l. 7) them. All these images function together to describe a horrible king
who ignores the needs of his people and sends them out to fight his war. [VERY GOOD] A fifth
method that Shelley brings to bear is irony. The poem is very negative, and the whole atmosphere
implies that the king would lead his country to total ruin. The irony in the poem is that the destruction
of England leads to a new beginning with hope. Shelley ends his poem by saying that Time s worst
statute, unrepealed/ Are graves from which a glorious Phantom may/ Burst, to illumine our
tempestuous day (ll. 12 14). The positive idea of a new beginning is ironic because it is in such sharp
contrast to the death and destruction presented earlier in the poem. [VERY GOOD] A sixth strategy
that Shelley brings his attention to is listing. Already in the first line, five adjectives are listed to
describe the king.

find the one area in student affairs I am truly passionate about, so I chose to speak with one of the
most passionate individuals I know. She did not wish for her name to be included, so I am going to
refer to her as Abby Rock. Abby places strong personal value on health, wellness, nutrition, and wants
to go back into high school to teach basic principles, from health and business, to teenagers. To help
her reach this goal, Abby chose to work towards getting her master s degree in education with a focus
on teaching. This was done simultaneously while she ran the operations of her family s gym,
completing her personal trainer certification, and observing teachers in various classrooms to find her
teaching style. I chose Abby because she is honest and does not stray far from her beliefs; this
interested me in how she will adapt to the classroom environment instead of the typical gym
environment she has been in.
Interview Breakdown Due to her busy schedule and travel constraints, the interview was conducted
over email throughout the past week. Abby defined leadership as, doing what is right when no one is
looking, and doing what is right when you don t receive

Recommended Organizational Policy Changes Of The European...
4. Recommended Organizational Policy Changes
According to Comscore, Europe represents 32% of overall Internet searches with Google having 80%
and Microsoft 2%. (Microsoft changes Bing s privacy policy, 2010). The biggest offenders for
malware on the internet is image and video searches on the web. Sophos reports that 92% of search
driven malware attacks is obtained from Google and Bing image searches. (Pearce, 2012). In a world
of personalized online services, establishing and maintaining user trust and responsible use of data is
critical. Users expect appropriate and relevant content and advertising while also protecting their
privacy when they use any search engine. As driven by consumer privacy concerns, the government
has asked the online industry to examine data retention and protection policies.
The Court of Justice for the European Union (CJEU) ordered that search engines are regulators of
processing personal data under the European Union Data Protection Directive, passed in May 2014.
(Abril Lipton, 2014). This order requires search engines to remove links from search results intrusive
to individual s privacy rights under this directive and is viewed as a component of the Digital Right to
be Forgotten Act. The ruling raised debate among the industry as to whom will assume responsibility
for online privacy assurance and protection. Interpretation of the law has been ambiguous, the law
doesn t uphold the right to be forgotten, but merely sustains a

Walmart Global Strategy
Wal Mart s Painful Lessons by Matthew Boyle Thursday, October 15, 2009 Having grown in fits and
starts, Wal Mart s international unit has a new game plan. Can it master world markets? It s rare that a
$100 billion business can be marginalized, but such is the case with the international arm of Wal Mart
Stores (WMT). As a standalone company, it would rank among the top five global retailers. Inside the
$401 billion retail giant, though, the business has traditionally received short shrift. Its Bentonville
(Ark.) headquarters is underwhelming a drab, largely windowless, one story structure named after Bill
Mitchell, a former Walmart executive whom nobody seems to remember. Since venturing into Mexico
in 1991, Walmart International has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with most meat now processed in a central facility. With the freed up floor space, Seiyu bulked up
meals to go offerings. To bypass the middlemen, Seiyu has also boosted the number of products it
imports directly from manufacturers by 25% over the past year, and is also focusing on increasing
sales of its own private label brands. The biggest change, however, is a shift away from weekly
specials to everyday low prices in areas like baby care and pet products, and, eventually, throughout
the store. Taking a page from Britain s Asda, Seiyu instead uses its marketing dollars to compare
prices against competitors. With the depth of the current recession, argues Tokyo based business
consultant Ken Hasebe, Japanese consumers have finally accepted that you can buy quality
merchandise for a lower price. One positive sign: Seiyu has been posting positive comparable store

Marketing and Mouse Trap
Company Case. Trap Ease America: The big cheese mousetraps
1) Martha and the Trap Ease America investors believe they face a once in a lifetime opportunity.
What information do they need to evaluate this opportunity? How do you think the group would write
its mission statement? How would you write it?
By saying they face a once in a lifetime opportunity I assume that they are talking about the potential
for profit and growth. However, from this case it doesn t seem that Martha, the president of Trap Ease
had done enough research into her market to realistically assess whether the demand for her product
would be there. First she would need to decide what customers want and need. Do they want or need
the safety and extra features that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Could it position the product in other ways?
It seems that the Trap Ease mouse trap has positioned itself in the market as being a very innovative
and well engineered product. It has done this by winning awards from trade shows and magazines. If it
is better able to connect these features of the mouse traps with the needs and wants of their target
consumers then they should be able to generate a larger demand. They could also try to change it s
position a little bit.
Trap Ease could also position the product as causing less waist because it is re useable or they could
lower it s cost and make it more affordable. By making it the most affordable, innovative mouse trap
on the market they could probably gain some more demand. Another way in which they could position
their product would be by having an incredibly good customer service team that could deliver services
to their customers that were having problems using the product. By having a good customer service
team they could build better relationships with their customers and increase their customer equity
4.Describe the current marketing mix for Trap Ease. Do you see any problems with this mix?
The marketing mix of a company consists of the four P s: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
Currently Trap Ease only has one product, their mouse trap. They probably could create a couple
different versions of their mouse trap in order to offer more variety. The higher price of their mouse

Hard To Find Misfit
To start with, A Good Man is Hard to Find is one of her many stories that is based on the grace of God
and the characters beliefs that shape the story. O Connor always focuses on two main characters that
interact with each other. The first and main character is the grandmother. In the Deep South of the mid
1900s the grandmother, living with her sons family, is described as, narrow minded and opinionated
(Kaplan 1589). Having a strong religious background. She believes she is, a good christian and a good
judge of character (Kaplan 1589),and because of this she is a good person. A good man who resembles

honest with his feelings and the kind of person he is. His way of accepting the crimes he commits and
how his actions strongly differ( separate) him from the grandmother. The grandmother lives her life in
denial of what differs a good person to a bad one where the misfit knows this difference. The hearse

Analysis Of The Battle Of Shiloh
For my battle analysis assignment, I have chosen to examine the battle of Shiloh. This battle began
April 6 7 1862, in the Pittsburg Landing area of Tennessee. In Hebrew Shiloh, means peace
nonetheless, this battlefield was far from a place of peace from April 6 7 1862. This battle was the
bloodiest civil war battle to date and occurred between the Union and Confederate armies. Having
analyzed the battle from multiple sources, I have discovered a number of operational, tactical, and
logistical mistakes that contributed to the Confederate losses suffered. My sources include
documentaries, historical videos, books, and articles from historians and civil war experts who have
spent their lives studying and dissecting the civil war, its battles, commanders, and tactics. As part of
my analysis, I will highlight the Confederate mistakes that could have produced a different outcome of
this historical battle.
In setting the stage for the battle of Shiloh let us first briefly discuss the civil war. The civil war began
with its first battle on 12 April, 1861 at Fort Sumter, South Carolina to the last battle at Anderson,
South Carolina on May 1, 1865 (Civil War Trust , 2014 ) between the Union and Confederate Armies.
The civil war consisted of nearly 50 major battles; the battle of Shiloh was the first scandalous and
essentially paramount battle. (Civil War Battles, 2016) The armies of the north were fighting to reunite
the nation, while the armies of the south were fighting

Rivers West by Louis L´Amour Essay
Louis L Amour was born Louis Dearborn LaMoore on March 22, 1908 as the last of seven children.
His father and mother are Dr. Louis Charles LaMoore and Emily Dearborn LaMoore, for the first
fifteen years of his life Louis lived in Jamestown, North Dakota; a medium sized farming community
in the valley where Pipestem Creek flows into the James River. His grandfather, Abraham Truman
Dearborn, told Louis stories of battles in history and his own personal experiences as a soldier. As a
child Louis spent a great deal of time in a nearby library where his eldest sister, Edna, was a librarian,
he was interested in the study of History and always went beyond the scope that was taught in the

In the years after leaving Jamestown Louis spent some time as a professional boxer. He was taught
well by his father and older brothers and ended up making some extra money from the occasional
prizefight. Though he left school at an early grade Louis had a thirst for knowledge. Throughout his
life Louis went to libraries and bookstores all over the world, anywhere he could find. Louis always
wanted to write but in his earlier days he thought his writing would take the form of poetry. He
struggled for years to craft writings without much teaching except his own knowledge. Eventually, he
broke out into a number of little magazines and began placing poems regularly, Poetry, however did
not pay very well so he started writing short stories that drew on his life experience, finally, he sold a
short story called Anything for a Pal to a pulp magazine called True Gang Life. He made less than
eight dollars but he took that as a sign and devoted his time to writing for the pulps. In 1937 he sold a
short story called Gloves for a Tiger to Thrilling Adventures Magazine and after this other sales
followed quickly. Although he wrote in several genres, Louis most financially successful stories were
the adventure tales he wrote about the captain of a tramp freighter and his crew. Late in the summer of
1942 Louis was inducted into the US army, after his discharge he returned to the US to find that the

Essay on Canadian History
In Canadian history it is quite evident we are influenced heavily by the much stronger nations around
us. Therefore our own content in Canada is sometimes overshadowed by other cultures, specifically
with regards to the United States who have a big influence on our cultural industries. Pierre Trudeau
expressed the feeling Canadians have with this co existence, Living next to you is in some ways like
sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly or temperate the beast, one is affected by every
twitch and grunt. Some may argue that Canada should not continue to develop regulations to protect
its cultural industries. However, I will argue that Canada should continue to develop some regulations
to protect its cultural industries. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Continentalism is a major contributing factor because it can be very threatening for the less powerful
country. Continentalism refers to the presence of a global power (e.g., United States) at one s border
must be considered a fact of special importance (Hiller 61). This is to say that the more powerful
country has influence over the less powerful country. This concept is relevant to my argument about
protecting Canada s cultural industries because there has been an increasing level in American and
foreign cultural penetration in Canada. Sharing a large border and more importantly a common
language with the United States means Canada is in a very difficult position in regard to American
culture, with direct attempts at the Canadian market or the general diffusion of American culture in the
globalized media arena. Thus the people of Canada are influenced heavily by American culture and
are surrounded more by their culture. The Canadian government should regulate cultural industries so
we do not lose interest in our own content. Most of our culture in Canada is from foreign sources:
More than 80% of English language magazines available in Canada are imported. 88% of new record
releases are foreign content. Foreign films take about 95% of the screen time in our movie theatres.
Foreign content makes up 61%

The Cartesian Theory Of Mind
René Descartes was a French philosopher responsible for many ideas and theories still used in the
philosophical world today. He earned the nickname Father of modern philosophy for his work. One of
his most in depth and lasting legacies is his mind body dualism thesis also known as the Cartesian
theory of mind.
The Cartesian theory states that there are two different types of existence, physical and mental.
Whatever exists must fall into only one of these existences and they cannot be both. This could be
compared to the two faces of a coin, where when you flip a coin it has to be either heads or tails, when
looking at the world it is either in the physical world or the mental world. Another example is how
animals are either male or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So a body s life is a public affair, much like the lives of animals and plants.
Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like
a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to
mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed
by other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or
feel an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s
mind are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person
lives two lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What
happens to the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world
(Ryle). The view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a
isolated field known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet
and we cannot interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way. Gilbert Ryle sees that
Descartes divides a person s life into two halves, one being external and the other being internal.
Every physical thing, including the body, belong to the external half and physical world, while the

The Common Core Standards For Students
The Common Core Standards are words that we are all formulary with. We all have heard those 3
words once before but I m sure most of us didn t know the real meaning behind it unless we work in a
school or have young children in school, or a teacher. The common core is a set of high quality
academic standards in mathematics and English language arts with literacy, also can be known as
ELA. These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each
grade. We are told that the standards were created to make sure that when the time comes for the
students to graduate from high school they will have all the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed
in not only college, but their career, and life regardless of where they are from. The Common Core
focuses most on developing the critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills students will
need to be successful. Those are all things that students all around the world need in order to move
forward, and continue to get their education. Having these standers make it easier for all the teachers
around the world to know where they need to have their students be by the end of each academic
school year, but what if there was a different way for our teachers to know where each child should
stand without having to use the common core standards? What if some children don t work well with
it? There are six standards that we work with day by day in the schools, these standards are: (1)

Essay about The Liver and Its Functions
The Liver is the body s largest gland, weighing about three to four pounds. It is located beneath the
diaphragm in the right upper quadrant (RUQ) of the abdominal cavity. Without the liver, our bodies
would be poisoned and unfit for us to do anything at all. It is a metabolically active organ responsible
for many vital life functions. The primary functions of the liver are: Bile productions and excretion.
Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs. Metabolism of fats, proteins, and
carbohydrates. Enzyme activation. Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals. Synthesis of plasma
proteins, such as albumin, and clotting factors. And blood detoxification and purification.
The liver is the body s energy factory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bile moves into the gallbladder via tiny tubes. The bile is stored in the gallbladder and waits,
becoming concentrated, for the signal to be released into the duodenum aiding in digestion. Without
bile, the body could not digest fats, as fats do not absorb into water. The bile acts as a detergent and
allows the two to mix.
The liver is an unusual organ because nearly every one of its cells is exactly alike. The working cells
of the liver are known as hepatocytes. Hepatocytes have a unique capacity to reproduce in response to
liver injury. Liver regeneration can occur after surgical removal of a portion of the liver (hepatectomy)
or after injuries that destroy parts of the liver. And this regeneration can adjust its size to match its
host. Within a week after partial hepatectomy, hepatic mass is back essentially to what it was prior to
surgery. Even though the liver has the ability to react to damage and can repair itself, repetitive insults
can produce liver failure or deadly diseases, infections, and disorders. A few such diseases are viral
hepatitis, yellow fever, and rubella. Some of the disease caused by bacteria are amebic dysentery,
leptospirosis, and streptococcal infections. These diseases can fatally damage the liver.
Liver failure is the acute failure of the liver to perform its body function. Proteins that allow the blood
to clot are not produced so the patient bruises and bleeds easily. A viscous fluid will sometimes collect

Human Diversity Issues In Social Work
There are several issues related to issues of human diversity that have influenced the development of
my interest in social work. As I take a look around my community and what is occurring in the world I
notice the different cultures, environments, and lack of humanity. I took an interest in these three
categories and learned there are recurring issues within each. There is a lack of cultural competency in
the society. Different cultures do not interact effectively with one another as much as they should. A
person may interact differently with a certain culture once they are forced or need to. For example, a
person may only interact with a person from a different culture for work purposes or attending a
certain event. Majority of people (cultures) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Texas Tech University Application Research Paper Throughout my life, I have most definitely been driven to assist my community or others in need. I have been able to set aside time and put forth effort when it was necessary. Along my years in junior high and high school, I have assisted my community by collecting cans for our local food bank, providing food for our veterans, cleaning the church area, helping with local food fundraisers, taking down Christmas trees for the public, and other activities. This has affected me in an influential way and made me realize that devoting time to other activities or people is greatly appreciated and beneficial. Although there may not be a reward given, the simple satisfaction of knowing you volunteered willingly is enough. For my future, I wish to attend Texas Tech University and take the required courses in order to attain a masters degree in nursing. With this degree, it will allow me to pursue a career in the medical field to become a certified nurse midwife. Because I will be continuing my education in the Lubbock area, I intend to begin my career and maintain an occupation in the same area. However, I would be more than willing to move wherever my job would take me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Fascism, Nietzsche, Power Fascism, Nietzsche, Power Nietzsche s writing about power dynamics and the creation of the strong and weak, the good and the bad, is very closely intertwined with the workings of fascist ideology, and how it understands itself to be strong. In a Nietzschean sense, however, fascism ultimately fails to be truly strong because it creates itself as a reformed moralistic approach to power, rather than freeing itself from moralism. More specifically, the construction of the Jews as weak by those who subscribe to fascist ideology, and the portrayal of themselves as strong, is almost wholly antithetical Nietzsche s actual position concerning power dynamics. Instead, as Nietzsche lays out in The Genealogy of Morals, real power is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nietzsche explains this struggle as a slave morality, which can only survive if it has a force that acts against it so its existence is justified; the role of opposition to the slave morality is occupied by the strong. He writes In order to exist at all, slave morality from the outset always needs an opposing, outer world; in physiological terms, it needs external stimuli in order to act its action is fundamentally reaction (Genealogy of Morals 22). The morality of the strong is precisely the antithesis of this: it justifies itself by reaffirming the strength of itself they justify their behaviors by reaffirming their own lives, not by placing their lives in juxtaposition with the lives of the weak. Nietzsche expands this, saying The opposite is the case with the aristocratic mode of evaluation: this acts and grows spontaneously, it only seeks out its antithesis in order to affirm itself more thankfully and more joyfully (Genealogy 22). What fascists fail to recognize, however, is that fascism does not transcend the need to fight an opposing force it does not exist without some external stimuli to which the fascists are always responding. The Jews are constructed as the epitome of this slave morality ; they are the weak people subjected by the aristocratically strong fascists. But, fascism moralizes in exactly the same way as the Jews do for Nietzsche; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Case, The Hela Case Has Raised Questions About The... I choose Henrietta Lacks study case, the HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using genetic materials without permission. Neither Mrs. Lacks nor her family granted permission to harvest her cells, which were then cloned and sold since the 1950s. Recently, scientists at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory published the genome of a line of HeLa cells, making it publicly available for downloading. Another study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at the University of Washington, was about to be published in Nature. The Lacks family was made aware of neither project. Eric S. Lander, the founding director of the Broad Institute, a science research center at Harvard and M.I.T., said resolving these issues is crucial to taking advantage of the knowledge hidden in our genomes. If we are going to solve cancer, it s going to take a movement of tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of patients willing to contribute information from their cancer genomes towards a common good, Dr. Lander said. We are going to need to have ways to have patients feel comfortable doing that. We can t do it without a foundation of respect and trust. Henrietta Lacks was born Loretta Pleasant on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia, at some point she changed her name to Henrietta. On January 1951 Mrs. Lack arrived at her local doctor with abdominal pain, and profuse vaginal bleeding, she was tested for syphilis, which came back negative, and referred to Johns ... • 5. What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1954. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub genre suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock s highly inspired audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated. Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the film. The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his neighbor s room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what s happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock Editing shouldn t be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Heroic and Honorable Knight in The Canterbury Tales ... Knights are one of the most mistaken figures of the medieval era due to fairytales and over exaggerated fiction novels. When medieval knights roamed the earth, it was known that they were only human and, like humans, had faults. These knights did not always live up to the standards designated by society. However, in The Canterbury Tales, the knight is revealed as a character that would now be considered a knight in shining armor, a perfect role model in how he acts and what he does. Modern day people see them as chivalrous figures instead of their actual role as mounted cavalry soldiers. As time passes, the idea of what a knight is changes from a simple cavalry soldier to a specific type of behavior. Historically, knights were not very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Canterbury Tales, the knight is a modern type of knight. Although the description of this character s personality is vague, it is not hard for modern day people to visualize him. In the prologue, it mentions that the knight follows the five basic ideals that a good knight should possess: chivalry, Truth, honour, generousness, and courtesy (Chaucer 4). The knight fought in the Crusades, wars in which Europeans traveled by sea to non Christian places and tried to convert people s culture by brute force, which was considered noble and brave hearted. From his love of the five basics ideals previously mentioned to his impressive military career, the knight is a perfect example of how a knight should be represented. Indirectly, the tale is discussing both the knight and the idea of how a knight should be. The tale does not describe much about the knight as in physical appearances and characteristics of this knight but as the tale comes to an end, the book starts to unfold how this story connects with this character. The tale itself is not important yet it s what the tale represents that is important, such as pursuing courtly love, risking death, and respecting women. All of the previously mentioned attributes are ones that knights should possess to achieve expected standards. A knight s characteristics are usually described by using power and authority but, in actuality, the knight is just a servant to a higher authority. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Effect Of Hatshepsut On The Metropolitan Museum Of... In 1923, excavators from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Herbert E. Winlock (Museum Egyptologist), found fragments of statues belonging to the time of Hatshepsut when they began clearing the area in front of the temples of Hatshepsut and Mentuhotep II. As a result further excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926 27, 1927 28, and 1928 29. These excavations were predominantly carried out in two important locations: a depression southeast of Deir el Bahri temple (also called the Hatshepsut Hole ) and a quarry northeast of the temple. [1] The Metropolitan Museum crew started to reassemble these fragments and by 1931 the reconstructions were complete and offered a rather large collection of statues and objects from Hatshepsut s temple. More statues have survived of Hatshepsut than any other Egyptian Pharaoh. Ironically, this was due to the destruction of these statues a mere twenty years after they were created. Hatshepsut ascended to the Egyptian throne in 1473 B.C and co ruled with her stepson and nephew, Thutmose III. While Hatshepsut was not first woman in Egypt to be a king, she was nonetheless, the most important in terms of the influence of her reign on the culture of ancient Egypt. During her reign as Pharaoh there was an explosion of artistic creativity, which can be seen clearly in the reconstruction of her temple at Deir el Bahri in western Thebes. In 1950, Dawson Lumber owned four small lumber yards in the Corn wall area, each operating as a separate company. However, in 1965, J.H. Dawson became president and amalgamated the four companies into the Dawson Lumber Company. The company had acquired seven more lumber yards north and west of Cornwall, Ontario but further growth was limited by J.H. Financial Analysis: Strictly speaking, at present the Dawson Lumber Company is being financed by a bank loan. The company s equity structure constitutes common stock capital amounting to $4.3 million and the accumulated earnings. Presently, the company s financing needs are met through two types of bank loans which include a working capital loan obtained specifically to meet the working capital requirements and the present long term loan amounting to 4.2 million. Both the loans are obtained from National bank of Canada (NBC). The NBC took accounts receivable and inventory as collateral and as a condition of the loan against the charge on the borrowed amount for which Dawson undertook to provide quarterly financial statements and monthly reports of inventory, sales and receivables. Now as far as the company s cash flow is concerned, the company has been suffered with very weak cash flows because inventory and receivables have increased which result in negative cash flows and due to increased in accounts payable resulting in positive cash flow thus overall cash generated from operations remain intact. However as mentioned above it is operational inefficiency due to delay in collection from customers resulting in delay in payments to creditor. The current ratio is at satisfactory level. The Diagnosis Of Cancer, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, And Hiv Aids The diagnosis is one of the most important factors which influence the outcome of diseases but still it is ignored on a large scale by people. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS, and tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties. The physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to notice the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood stream. Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This method is not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer. Hence, other tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer. • 10. The Jagged Edges of a Shattered American Dream in Death of... The American dream is an ideal for all Americans to get the best out of life. It stands for an easy and comfortable life, which makes you independent and your own boss. Historically, the American dream meant a promise of freedom and opportunity, offering the chance of riches even to those who start with nothing. This is something that Arthur Miller conveys in his play Death of a Salesman. Before the Depression, an optimistic America offered the alluring promise of success and riches. Nevertheless, Willy has a waning career as a salesman and is an aging man who considers himself to be a failure but is incapable of consciously admitting it. As a result, the drama of the play lays not so much in its events, but in Willy s deluded perception and recollection of them. [1] Miller uses many characters to contrast the difference between success and failure in the American system. Willy Loman is a deluded salesman whose vivid imagination is far greater than his sales ability. Linda, Willy s wife, honourably stands by her husband even in the absence of essential realism. To some extent, she acknowledges Willy s aspirations but, naively, she also accepts them. Consequently, Linda is not part of the solution but rather part of the problem with this dysfunctional family and their inability to face reality. In restraining Willy from his quest for wealth in the Alaska, the New Continent [2], ironically the only realm where the dream can be fulfilled, Linda destroys any hope the family has of achieving greatness . Even so, Linda symbolically embodies the play s ultimate value: love. In her innocent love of Willy, Linda accepts her husband s falsehood, his dream, but, in her admiration of his dream, she is lethal. Linda encourages Willy and, in doing so, allows her sons, Biff and Happy, to follow their father s misleading direction in life. [3] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We analyzed the Indian Pharmaceutical industry on these five forces and the findings of industry competitiveness and profitability are written under the relevant competitive forces. The chemical industry itself is very competitive and also very fragmented because their products (organic chemicals) are standardized and steps to produce them are also standardized. The chemicals used in pharma industry are commodity as pharmaceutical companies do production on economies of scale to lower the cost. The suppliers have low bargaining power because companies can switch to a new supplier without incurring a high cost. • 14. Business Analysis Introduction The sources of new business ideas come from a variety of places. It could be from a problem that needs to be solved from a consumer, existing knowledge in a business and a vision to improve, or recognizing an alternative use for a new technology. While ideas are plentiful, the ability to bring that idea to fruition, and create a profitable business from it, is much more difficult. Examples The example from chapter 4 was interesting on Elon Musk (Hisrich, Peters, Shepherd, 2017). His ability to build a business, sell it, then build a bigger business, gives insight that he is more interested in solving large seemingly insurmountable, problems than holding on to a business. The Horrifying World Forster Creates in The Machine Stops In The Machine Stops Forster creates a world set in the future, where machines rule. In fact, machines run life so much so that human beings, by this time, have adapted accordingly to life and the lifestyle it brings. In the arm chair there sits a swaddled lump of flesh a woman, about five feet high, with a face as white as a fungus, Forster writes. Again, it is often thought that with the machines man is able to control everything, but what if in truth The Machine is actually reactionary to society and civilization? Life then becomes less secure than we care to believe. So changes in lifestyle indeed have occurred, and the main one being that people basically need not ever to leave the comfort of their own home! Video telephone calls are available, so it is possible to call people and see them visually during the conversation but therefore, in this world Forster has created, no one really ever sees anyone face to face, up close and personal. This seems negligible though, but it actually leads onto much greater consequences. People in this world are now haunted by the terrors of direct experience and direct experiences are things that are simply bound to happen sometime in life! However, now people have grown unaccustomed to it, so even a simple handshake is considered as shockingly barbaric. People never touched one another, Forster writes. • 19. England in 1819 Essay England in 1819 Great poetry is great not because of what it says but because of how it is phrased. Few poems say anything that is very profound; instead, the best of them use language in novel, memorable, and effective ways. Certainly this is true of Percy Bysshe Shelley s famous sonnet England in 1819. In this poem Shelley describes the depressing, dark, and dirty state of affairs caused in Britain by political, social, and spiritual corruption. However, this poem would not be nearly as effective if it were not for Shelley s powerful use of such classic rhetorical devices as adjectives, alliteration, assonance, imagery, irony, lists, themes, and verbs. [VERY NICE] A fourth device that Shelley makes use of is imagery. The poem is full of such description and figureS of speech. Shelley uses many violent images, such as the leechlike (l. 5) image of a king who sucks the blood out of his countrymen. The king is blind in blood (l. 6), the blood of his own people. If it was not enough that the king sucks the blood out of his countrymen, BUT he also HAS starved and stabbed (l. 7) them. All these images function together to describe a horrible king who ignores the needs of his people and sends them out to fight his war. [VERY GOOD] A fifth method that Shelley brings to bear is irony. The poem is very negative, and the whole atmosphere implies that the king would lead his country to total ruin. The irony in the poem is that the destruction of England leads to a new beginning with hope. Shelley ends his poem by saying that Time s worst statute, unrepealed/ Are graves from which a glorious Phantom may/ Burst, to illumine our tempestuous day (ll. 12 14). The positive idea of a new beginning is ironic because it is in such sharp contrast to the death and destruction presented earlier in the poem. The Cartesian theory states that there are two different types of existence, physical and mental. Whatever exists must fall into only one of these existences and they cannot be both. Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed by other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or feel an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s mind are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person lives two lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What happens to the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world (Ryle). The view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a isolated field known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet and we cannot interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way.
