rasayanas with reported efficacy in improving the negative
symptoms of residual-phase schizophrenia {residual or recovery

the main triterpenoid saponins is now regarded as responsible for
the characteristic neuropharmacological effects of the B. monnieri.
The Bacoside A (Bacoside A3 and A2) is a saponin from B.

21 Toxicity due to many herbomineral formulations including
Smritisagara rasa in a 11 year old girl who took 8 different
medicines once a day at different times for 6 months for
epilepsy. [Khandpur et al. Chronic arsenic toxicity from
Ayurvedic medicines]
After 6 months of this therapy, she noticed generalized
hyperpigmentation with thickening of the palms and soles, and,
after 18 months, she developed acute abdominal distension and
vomiting.
Analysis showed 248 mg/L arsenic concentration per
tablet(Unjha pharmacy) which was far above the normal limits.
The safe amount of arsenic that can be handled by the human
body per day is estimated to be 12μg. The normal serum arsenic
level is < 60 μg/L.
The source of arsenic in these medicines may be intentional,
incidental, or originating from raw plant materials.

Smriti-Sagara Rasa is used as a nervine stimulant,
alterative and brain tonic.
Used in epilepsy, mania and weakness of memory.
Proper anupana should be selected.
Never ‘over the counter’ drug.
Routine inspection for any toxic effects and intake of
other medicines is to be interrogated.
Each and every ingredient in the formulation has
its own specific role in the body.
