e) How will it help to reduce the traffic in West Pennant Hills?
Pennant Hills Road was identified by the NRMA (National Roads and Motorists Association) as
the 3rd worst road in New South Wales and in the Australian Capital Territory, and it is the 2nd
worst road in Sydney s road network. The NorthConnex Tunnel is expected to remove 9000 cars
and 5 000 heavy vehicles off Pennant Hills Road daily, (appendix A) which is sure to help the traffic
move faster. 30 000 motorists are estimated to use the tunnel when it opens (appendix A), however

The average speed travelled in the morning peak hours is 28 km/h, and 32km/h in the afternoon
peak hours. The NorthConnex Tunnel is certain to reduce the travel time between these
motorways, as up to 21 traffic lights are bypassed and there is a higher speed limit of 80 km/h, so
vehicles are able to drive faster and shouldn t have to stop (appendix A). With these statistics,
NorthConnex states that trips will be 6 to 15 minutes faster in 2019, and in 2029, 25 minutes faster

Interpreters In Italy
Economic Status:
According to the 2017 Index of Economic Freedom (The Heritage Foundation), Italy is ranked 79th
in economic freedom, whereas, the United States is ranked 17th. The economy status in Italy has
faced many challenges including political and financial hardships. Since 2011, public debt has been
on the rise and currently sets at more than 130 percent of GDP. (http://www.heritage.org/index

energies, valuable consumer goods, and engineering products. (Capuano, 2011) The country has a

Their work ethic can be measured by, as the say goes, work to live, not live to work. By working,
they can spend more money enjoying life and living it to the fullest. The industrialized northern
area of Italy has a stricter view, and considers the southern area to be a burden when it comes to
their differences in work ethics. People that work in government offices have been known to work
very short hours, and sometimes not opening for the day at all. Those working in more private
divisions tend to work longer hours than government officials. People that tend to work harder than
others do not appear to because they find ways to enjoy their time. Business owners, on the other
hand, are well respected in Italy. (Gioseffi, Szerlip, and Watson, 2001, pg. 40)
Hierarchical structures are always maintained within Italian companies. Below the CEO or business
owner, the executives are on the same level authority. The business s senior employees are mostly
called upon as mentors, while its newer employees are considered beginners within the company.
Throughout their time with the company, the newer employees are expected to prove themselves
before they are admitted into the inner circle. (Gioseffi, Szerlip, and Watson, 2001, pg.

Fred Meyer Organizational Structure Essay
The Process of Fred Meyer s Organizational Structure Selection
MGT230
January 29, 2013
The Process of Fred Meyer s Organizational Structure Selection Introduction According to Bateman
and Snell, Two fundamental concepts around which organizations are structured are differentiation
and integration (2011, pg. 227). Differentiation refers to the different units that work on different
kinds of tasks with the use of different skills and work methods in an organization. These
differentiated units are combinedand coordinated into an overallproduct for the purpose of
achieving the organization s mission as the result of integration. The two fundamental concepts

customers one stop shopping convenience in addition to the company operating a dairy, bakery,

integration with combining and coordinating products and services to offer the consumers one stop
shopping (Smith amp;Albaum, 2005). This type of marketing and operational strategiesprovides the
company an advantage in multiple areas of business while contributing to the organization s
direction and mission. Fred Meyer s organizational structures are effective in the company s
strategy of seeking competitiveness by enabling each department and each product division in
response to the local competition with marketing and operational strategies. The position of the

determining the appropriate organizational structure to achieve the goals of the organization. This

Influential Religious Figures
Influential Religious Figures
Influence is the process of producing effects on the actions, behavior, and opinions of another or
others. Influence plays a major role in world religion, as it is present through the activity of key
figures. History has shown that certain religious figures have influenced the creation of three major
religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam. These three figures are Jesus Christ, Moses and
Muhammad. These figures have gained many followers worldwide by just simply spreading the
word of their respected God. A follower is a person who follows another in regard to his or her
ideas or belief. Through the holy acts of Jesus Christ, Moses, and Muhammad, each figure is
looked upon highly in their respected religions. The nature of Jesus was filled with humanity and
divinity, made him an outstanding figure in the Christian society. Followers of Christianity
believe that Jesus was sent here to Earth to serve, not to be served. What differs Jesus Christ
from Moses and Muhammad is that, he was not just a prophet he was the Son of God. Jesus
explained about God and his fathering abilities and made it clear to society that every man was a
child of God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also evident that the three figures have some common characteristics. Moses, like
Muhammad is the author of the Torah books, whereas Muhammad is the author of many Moslem
scriptures. Both of them influence the society through writing down their ideas. They also claim
to be inspired by their God who used them to pass on messages. Jesus and Muhammad spread
their belief through preaching and teaching and asked followers to continue spreading the word of
their God. All three figures have left an impact in their respected religions. Jesus asked people to
love one another and by doing this, they would be closer to God. Moses

John Keynes And Friedrich Hayek
John Keynes and Friedrich Hayek where two of the most influential economic minds of the 20th
century. Each of these men s ideas had a great impact on the economy of numerous countries and
helped countries find economic success different times. Keynes and Hayek had opposite ideas
on what created a working economy that would be successful and avoid economical depressions
like that of the United States great depression and the European depressions that resulted from
the two World Wars. Keynes believes that the best way to maintain a strong economy was to
have government micromanage any and all aspects of the economy. He believes that in order to
maintain full employment of citizens, countries must spend money to create jobs and to help
struggling companies. Hayes believes that this was not the answer and would only result in
more problems. Hayes felt that a market will be able to take care of its self and in order to
ensure this government needed to avoid intervention to allow for a free economy to develop.
During the time of war Keynes ideas were more successful because the government was able to
make a large quantity of jobs for people through goods needed for the war. Since Keynes ideas
were so widely used and accepted at this time, Hayek s ideas were rejected and considered bad
because the purposed to do the opposite. After the good 30 years Keynes economic ideas began to
show flaws through inflation and unemployment rates. This issue resulted from the restriction

Tati 3 Worlds
Q1: What are the specificities of the three worlds displayed in the film? In the film, there were
three worlds displayed all separate from each other but still holding the same image for something
happening in France at the time. The new city showed signs of the advancing world the Tati had
lived in during the 1950 s. In the 1950 s France was recovering from war efforts from WWII. The
new world shows how France was rebuilding many structures and factories, and how these things
were not in common of what the old world was. Many of the streets had also been in non
contemporary grid styles. As well as people in neighborhoods staying within the bounds of their
homes, not communicating much, and trying to have their household become better than... Show

In the new world, everything was mostly gray. If there was color, it was very vibrant and
centralized to a specific location. For example, the car showed different colors of being pink and
green. The old world on the other hand had tons of colors. Everything was colorful, very little gray
was around, and it all just seemed more interesting to the viewer. This various range of colors had to
do with the idea that Tati was hinting that even though the new world has tons of different and new
technologies, there was not as much culture within it. The old world had lively colors, showing
how different the two worlds really were. In fact, Tati might have been showing how to new
world is not all it s cracked up to be as compared to the old world. Tati was trying to show that
people should just stick to the old world that had much more culture than the new

Reasons for Using Hops in Beer
Hops are one of the ingredients in beer that contains bitter flavor. Hops are flowers of Humulus
lupulus and usually it is used in brewing. Hop plants have four main structures, which are strig,
bracteole, bract, and lupulin glands. Lupulin glands contain resins and essential oils. Bitterness
comes from alpha acids in lupulin glands. According to textbook (2012), hopshave two basic
market classes, bitterness and aroma. When hops are placed to the wort in the beginning of the
boiling, it creates the bitterness. When hops are put into the boiling process at the end, it
creates the hoppy aroma (Oliver, 2012, p. 459). The reason of adding aroma hops at the end is
to minimize the evaporation (Agnew, 2008, p. 5). By boiling the hops, alpha acids are
isomerized, which is a chemical process that changes alpha acids to provide bitterness. Hop s
flavor and aroma are developed from essential oils in lupulin glands. The process is similar with
bittering. The flavor comes from oil dissolving into the boiling wort. Bitterness of hop is
measured by IBU. IBU is international Bitterness Unit that is a standard for measuring bitterness
(Oliver, 2012, p. 489). According to textbook (2012), IBUs are calculated values composed of the
quantity of material in wort of beerderived from hop resin, multiplied by the fraction 5/7 (Oliver,
2012, p. 490). There are several reasons for using hops in beer. According to textbook (2012), hops
increase its microbiological stability, help stabilize

The Absolute Monarchy And The Third Estate
Under the absolute monarchy during the eighteenth century, there was a divide between the three
estates with the Third Estate, which encompassed subjects with no formal title, being the outcast.
The nobility and the clergy formed a cohesive unit that agreed on each other s needs, leaving the
working men and women of the Third Estate to fend for themselves, which was a leading factor to
the split between the Estates. Despite the famine and hunger that had affected some of the Third
Estate, the aristocracy was still hosting lavish dinners. Even though this method was beneficial for
the First and Second Estates, the substantial population that identified as the Third Estate, left in a
formidable position, struggled to correct this situation.

Correlation Between Race And Health Inequalities
As the appointed Director of the World s Health Organization s Commission on Social Determinants
of Health, I have the opportunity to examine the relationship between race and health inequalities.
Race is a significant predictor of the distribution of health inequalities as it is quite notable that
people with similar biological traits seem to experience a non random distribution of morbidity and
mortality. There are various underlying factors of health inequalities in relation to race. This report
will focus on the scientific misconception of racism, the consequences of colonization and
environmental injustice.
According to Smedley (2005) race is a societal construct for the categorization between groups of
people. However, the field of medicine attributes racial biological differences as the causation of
health inequalities. This is a questionable notion since scientists explained that humans are
genetically 99.1% alike, with the remaining small percentage accounting for our phenotypical
variation. Attributing genes as the answer to our health disparities leads to individuals believing
that racial differences can be unaltered. This can be used to justify segregation of races and the
superiority of certain groups, thus creating a lack of critical thinking of factors which actually
contribute to certain health trends (Smedley Smedley, 2005). For example, in the film When the
Bough Breaks (California Newsreel, 2008) African Americanwomen seem to have a

Lipase Lab Report
The enzyme lipase, is present in one s body, specifically found in an individual s pancreas, mouth,
and stomach. Lipase uses separate fats to break down any consumed foods, so that they can
proceed and be absorbed in the intestines. The body typically produces lipase naturally but in some
cases, people may need to use lipase supplements to assist them in digesting food. The test to
measure the lipase enzymelevels in your body is sometimes known as serum lipase. This test
measures the amount of lipase in your blood.
Lipase, like previously mentioned, is an enzyme found in your body. Because the average body
temperature is Thirty seven degrees Celsius, the optimal temperature where this enzyme can work

Jane Austen, A Georgian Era Author
Jane Austen, a Georgian era author, best known for her social commentary in novels once said,
there is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving
people by halves, it is not my nature. I would have to completely agree with Austen. We should
love our true friends and do anything for them. No matter the size of the messes is that they make.
Finding the right friends is usually hard, but when you find them it will feel like when Cinderella

Workplace Diversity In The Workplace
Workplace Diversity Benefits and Employment Laws
Workplace diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization. Diversity
encompasses race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, education, back ground, cognitive style
and much more. As the work places are becoming more multicultural and diverse, there is an
increased need in understanding the dimensions of diversity and cultural differences that affects the
business communication within organizations. A better understanding of these differences is not
only important to effectively bridge such gaps but also helpful in identifying the unique strengths
and perspectives, each diverse group brings, that an organization can benefit from.
Globalization presents new markets at home and abroad, and firms increasingly recognize the
importance of hiring a workforce that reflects their potential markets. Global companies strive to
create an inclusive culture in which differences are recognized and valued. By bringing together
people from diverse backgrounds and providing them opportunity to contribute their skills,
experience and perspectives, companies are able to deliver the best innovative solutions to
challenges and add value to their stakeholders.
In recent times the term inclusion is replacing diversity, diversity refers to a group s demographic
qualities, while inclusion involves the degree to which individuals feel a part of the organizational
process and are therefore encouraged to

The Theories Of Child Development
From the day they are born, children are immersed in a social world. Rapid learning takes place
and is supported not only by parents, siblings, teachers and friends but also the important values
and beliefs within their culture. All of this provides the foundations for cognitive development. As
trainee teachers, it is fundamental that we have a deeper understanding of how children learn and
how we can support learning. In order to do this we must first look at some of the theories of
learning.
Theories
Prior to the early 20th century little interest was paid to how a child developed; indeed most early
research appears to be based on abnormal childhood behaviour (Oates et al. 2005). However, over
time researchers began to acknowledge that both genetics and environment factors impacted on the
way a child developed. Although there are many theories of child development, in particular
constructivism, behaviourism, social constructivism and social learning have influenced
developmental psychology enormously (Oates et al. 2005).
Many theorists and researchers have debated (and continue to debate) whether cognitive
development is a continuous or discontinuous processUntitled (Crowley, 2014). Do cognitive
processes advance with age (continuous) or is a child required to reach one stage of development
before they can advance to the next (discontinuous)?
Piaget (1952) based his theory on his belief that cognitive development occurred in four specific
stages; sensori motor stage,

Sparta DBQ Essay
Any society that abuses children should crumble .Sparta was an ancient Greek city state. They
valued military strength above anything else. They did not teach academics, farming, or anything
else besides military tactics. The weakness outweighed strengths because they lacked education ,
they abused their children and their society did not last more than 300 years.
To begin with, The Spartans lacked education. In document D the text states, [The Spartans]
learned to read and write for purely practical reasons: but all other forms of education they banned
from the country, Spartans were not allowed to read books or treatises. They could not perform in
plays or criticize the government. They could not form their own opinion.
Secondly, they only lasted for a little over 300 years. In the Background Essay it says, During these
years, Sparta was under terrific pressure, fighting Athens and the same time looking over its
shoulder at a restless helot population at home. These two factors led to the Spartans down ... Show

In document B the text states, [He introduced the custom of wearing one garment throughout the
year, believing that they would thus be better prepared to face changes of heat or cold]. While

in hopes that their feet would get use to any type of land. The boys were also encouraged to steal
food but were whipped if they were caught. Not only were they whipped for stealing, but they were
whipped during the Flagellation where they were sometimes whipped to the point of death.
Although, Sparta had weaknesses they did have the strongest military of their time. The Spartan
army perfected a battle formation called the phalanx that is still talked about today. Sparta s
weaknesses still outweigh the strengths because of the reasons I listed above, they lacked
education, they didn t last over 300 years and they abused their

Alcohol Use, Abuse, And Related Accidents Among College...
Question: Alcohol uses among college students What are the trends in alcohol use, abuse, and
related accidents among college aged women versus men?
Background
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines low risk drinking as less
than 4 drinks in a day.1 On the other hand, binge drinking as a pattern of drinking makes blood
alcohol concentration (BAC) level to 0.07h/dL. This level is typically reached after 4 drinks for
women and 5 drinks for men in approximately 2 hours. Drinking level is shown to increase 5 times
more of drinking problems at three drinks and greater thereafter. Negative consequences are more
likely to be associated when there are more than three drinks of alcohol consumption.2
Approximately 40 to 45% of college students in the US report engaging in heavy episodic
drinking.3 Consequences of heavy drinking are widespread which include academic problems,
unwanted sexual experiences, physical injuries, and death. A study titled Are Social Norms the
Best Predictor of Outcomes among Heavy Drinking College Students? by Neighbors et al found
that social norms were the best predictors of typical weekly alcohol consumption amongst college
students.3 In other words, perceived descriptive norms and approval of friends were the best
predictor of heavy drinking in college years.
Although men reported consistent alcohol consumption per drinking occasion, alcohol
consumption among female college students seem to be increasing nowadays.4 According to

does this mean? It means that in The Office there is no large or overrunning storyline that is

in mind, my spec script doesn t necessarily have a set position amongst the actual episodes that

customers to do price comparisons in an instant, thus, they can buy from the online retailer that
offers the best prices. Internet companies are aware of this thus, they price their inventory
competitively. Moreover, companies get bigger audience of their products online so they often
put clearance products on sale and offer other deals to clear out inventory faster. Moreover, most
customers are also able to save on taxes because taxes are applicable only if the online retailer
operates in the same state as the customer. Shopping mall retailers have higher costs because not
only they have to invest in physical property but they also have to hire sales people and
managerial staff. Their audience is only limited to the number of visitors in the shopping mall at
any time. Thus, they are forced to generate higher sales per customers which mean higher prices
on the average. It s also more expensive for the visitors to compare prices in terms of both cost and
time, thus, the shopping mall customers are at a

Defining Psychological Disorders
Defining psychological disorders. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns that lead to
inability to function properly in life. There are quite a number of mental disorders but I will only
focus on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder because it is the most studied mental disorder
and the most frequently diagnosed disorder especially in children. This disorder causes inability
to pay attention, difficulty in controlling one s behaviors or causes one to be excessively active.
A lot of misleading information about this disorder is everywhere in the communities and even
the society. Some do not even believe it is real and therefore it is important to understand what
this disorder is. Patients with these disorders will mostly act without thinking and therefore
impacting on their families and loved ones. The actual cause of attention deficit/hyperactivity
disorders is not known but other factors may be a trigger. These factors may include genetics, the
society and the environment (Joel 2006). Some medical conditions and previous brain infections
or cases of trauma. It normally runs in families, with factors such as exposure to alcohol, toxic
chemicals or at times premature birth may lead to the disorder. Diagnosis is done by a set of
criteria but begins by assessing the behaviors of a person in childhood, and their mental
development.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about The Search for a Home in Jane Austen s...
Jane Austen s Mansfield Park is a novel obsessed with home and family. It
begins a story of one family, three sisters, and quickly expands to a story of
three families, the Bertrams, the Prices, and the Norrises. Family upon family
is added, each one growing, expanding, and moving until the novel is crowded
with characters and estates. An obsession with movement creates an overall
feeling of displacement and confusion. Fanny Price is moved from Portsmouth to
Mansfield and then back to Portsmouth and back to Mansfield. She occupies

A gentleman s residence is comfortable and fitting (219). For the
homeless Fanny, self is not defined. With no home, she has no self. She must,
therefore, grow into Mansfield Park before asserting selfhood. As Fanny defines
and redefines home, she is able to define herself and ultimately fit into
Mansfield Park and the family it represents.
At her arrival, Mansfield Park is clearly no home to Fanny.
Displaced from her home in Portsmouth, Fanny is almost a not Fanny. The initial
description of her is marked by negation. There is not . . . much in her first
appearance though nothing to disgust (9). She has no glow of complexion,
nor any other striking beauty (9). She is awkward but not vulgar (9). The
negatives (not, nothing, no, nor) reduce Fanny to nothingness. The modifiers,
too, are diminutive. Though Fanny is not much younger than Julia and Maria, she
is described as just ten years old and small of her age (9). She is
timid, shy, shrinking from notice (9), all words that reflect deficiency.
The Miss Bertrams feed off of this diminishment, increasing from their cousin s
shyness (10). Fanny s self threatens to dissolve altogether. After meeting
the Bertrams and seeing the display of a remarkably fine family, who were all
at home (10), Fanny finds herself longing for the

Essay about The Works of William Harvey
The Works of William Harvey
SYNOPSIS
William Harvey was a distinguished physician of the seventeenth century. Harvey was educated by
some of the great scientists of his time and was highly knowledgeable of the scientist theories
preceding his time. Harvey was greatly intrigued by the views of the ancient Aristotle and developed
a number of his own ideas based on Aristotle s theories. It was from Aristotle s theory of the
primacy of blood that allowed Harvey to make breakthroughs about circulation and generation of
animals. His advancements greatly enhanced the study of anatomy. Harvey also revolutionized the
means by which science was performed through the use of innovative, investigational techniques.

This disproved the common view of preformation (Pagel 33). He published his final writings in the
Essays on the Generation of Animals. After a productive and eventful life, William Harvey died in
London on June 3, 1657.
Through his investigation founded on beliefs of Aristotle, William Harvey was able to
hypothesize on the movement of blood in the body. Prior to William Harvey s research , the
medical view of blood in the body came from a Greek doctor by the name of Galen. Galen
explained the flow of blood as a to and fro movement being pumped by the veins and arteries
themselves. Galen also believed that blood was made and then used up in the body. His
conclusions were drawn mainly from outer appearances (Bayon 444). This made Harvey s work
more accurate because he performed specific experiments and calculations. One reason Harvey
was able to determine the movement of blood through the body was founded in Aristotle s belief
of the perfection of circular motion because it is continuous path (Pagel 28). William Harvey
combined this idea with Arsitotle s view of the power of the heart to act independently of the
brain. From these notions, Harvey created the theory of a constant circulation of blood throughout
the body by the pumping of the heart. He began researching his hypothesis with a hen s egg. He
discovered that the first drops of blood in the hen s egg eventually gave

Given the rate at which smartphone are penetrating the market and component prices are declining
by 2015 there will be, at least, 2 billion smart mobile devices in use globally. (Kenney, 2011).
Smartphone sales will be driven by two main factors, BI Intelligence says:
Replacement of nearly 5 billion dumb phones with smartphones (smartphones currently make up
only 10% of handsets worldwide)
Price declines. The average price of a smartphone will drop from about $315 last year to $200 over
the next several years
This will obviously have a huge impact on the mobile Internet economy, which is already exploding
from the growth of smartphone penetration in the past few years.
Some other highlights from the report:
Smartphone unit sales will grow at nearly a 30% compound annual growth rate over the next five
years
Smartphones will represent about two thirds of all mobile phone purchases by 2016,
Smartphones will be a $320 billion market by 2016.

At the time Apple recognized the need for a handheld mobile device the market players were a
few and mainly business users. This explains the strong market share RIM had. Palm on its hand
also was also somewhat popular but having limitations in terms of usability and software, deprived

Magazine Advertising And Gender Stereotypes
My thought process when collecting my magazine ads was that I wanted to showcase the
various age groups of each gender. Many magazines have a specific audience in mind meaning
that magazines aimed towards a young teen would not be as explicit as a magazine aimed
towards a grown woman even though they might both contain the same message. I collected
samples from three prominent magazines for females: J 14 (age range 8 14), Seventeen (age range
10 21), and Cosmopolitan (age range 18 34). I also repeated the process and collected samples from
magazines aimed at males: Sports Illustrated for Kids (age range 8 15) and ESPN (age range 15+).
I collected four ads per female magazineand three ads per male magazine for a total of twenty ads.
Each magazine that I used was from 2016 in order to ensure that the ads were relevant because of
how genderroles have changed over time. The limitations for my sample include the fact that not all
magazines aimed towards females are strictly about beauty and fashion. There are many other types
of magazines that appeal to women such as cooking, health, and dГ©cor.... Show more content on

It s a cool crisp November fall day, you could tell it was close to winter time but didnt want to admit
it, you weren t ready for it quite yet it was the 20, 1987.My family would be coming in a short few
hours, all my family lived somewhat close to New Hampshire, my grandparents lived in
Maryland, my aunt and uncle and thier kids lived in conneticut, and my godparents lived in
Massachusetts. It was about 8:00 and we were off for thanksgiving break, the entire week. At
this time I would still be sleeping like most 16 year olds, but my Mom wanted to make sure that
everything was ready for my extended family to come in. I was getting ready and listening to
my mixed tape that my boyfriend, Jason, made me of all my favorite movies which consists of
Dirty Dancing, The Breakfast club, Pretty In Pink, Footloose and 16 Candles. I was wearing my
black leggings, SAVE FERRIS shirt, jean jacket, high top converse, my black brixton hat, and my
knock off Wayfarer sunglasses I got from a drug store. I grab my bag and keys off my dresser and
head downstairs to see my mom running around the house like she s mental or something. Ugh she

Writing Challenges In Overcoming A Fear Of Writing
You want a question that brings the reader inside! You want a question to excite the readers, and
pull them inwards, so they can connect to the story when you re writing! When you are writing,
you must pull the reader in! They must know what s next!
However big or small, everyone has experienced challenges in life. A long time ago, a friend of
mine once told me that to overcome a challenge; you need to embrace the problem instead of
rejecting it. Now I realize what she was trying to say. When you have a problem, don t run away
from it, because then you will never learn how to rise above it. This is especially true in
overcoming a fear of writing.
Overcoming a fear of writing is hard if it starts in kindergarten. I had the most beautiful
handwriting in class. I had received many complements from my teachers for the writing
workbook assignments. But I really never liked to write. I did not like writing at all! I had tried
by best to be happy but it did not work well. When I wrote, I thought moodily, this is boring.
When I wrote, I felt angry because I couldn t spell all the words right. I did not know what to say
or write down, and this caused me more frustration. After writing, my hands would feel tired. There
was no happiness in writing for me, so decided to just give up.
Whenever I was forced to write for my portfolios by hand, I would always complain, trying to
wiggle myself out of it. I would do preposterous things: I would whine, be very angry, frustrated,

Theme Of Suspense In Hunters In The Snow
Like reality, fiction taps into truths of the self and relationships with others that are often without
recognition, due to refusal of acknowledgment of personal faults. In his story, Hunters in the Snow,
Tobias Wolff examines the power structure in the relationship of three primary characters along
with the power of their hunting rifles. Through the literary element of potential chance, suspense is
formed, an element of fictionthat uses sympathetic characterization in order to create an aspect of
anxiety. He does so with the use of the literary mechanisms such as surprise, mystery, suspense, and
the exploration with every possible type of conflict. As stated in Perrine s Literature collection,

The comparison of commercial and literary fiction is endowed here through an alternative plot
line of the friendship. For example, the man on the seventeenth story window ledge in another
image, can be written about for commercial or literary, however, the literary story would focus
less upon whether the man will jump than on the psychological factors and life experiences that
brought him to the ledge in the first place. The alternative plot structure allows for hints to a secret
that Frank has told Kenny previously and Wolff reveals only as your jailbait, but later, Frank
explains to Tub while Kenny is hurt and freezing in the car. At the introduction, this is a widely
unexpected turn out, since this is a literary story, it does not matter whether Kenny arrives at the
hospital, for the plot has concluded with the characterization. The story ends without directions to
the hospital while Kenny freezes to death repeating his mantra that Frank told him to say, I m
going to the hospital. The incredible depth of characterization allows the reader to emote on
multiple levels for many different scenarios as Frank pulls into a restaurant to eat and discuss
things like trust, guilt, and a personal clandestine with Tub, all while leaving Kenny in the bed of
the truck, breaking all of the virtues they began with

Charles Darwin s Natural Selection Theory
Darwin did not publish his theory of evolution by natural selection until 1859. He was not the first,
however, to develop a theory of evolution. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the
natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as
the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarckthat species changed gradually over time. While
these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to
threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural
selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning
method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support,... Show more content on

What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection.
Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited
for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and
will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by
observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas
Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when
unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio.
Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals
competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on
population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit
for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for
Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin
determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that
evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most
complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there
was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural
selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin
s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist
by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of empirical
evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin

Piaget s Theory Of Child Development
A Classroom Design According to Piaget ECE 332 Child Development

June 29, 2013
When the brain is able to learn naturally we call this theory brain based learning we use our brain
everyday to acquire and take in things that we learn and children are no exception. According to
Jean Piaget s cognitive developmental theory children use their brain to think, reason, and
remember. Based upon his observations, he concluded that children were not less intelligent than
adults, they simply think differently (Cherry, n.d.). Piaget described his theory using stages that
children go through as they mentally mature. In his description of children he called them little

Another feature that children display during this stage is animism. In other words children
believe that inanimate objects such as toys and stuffed animals have human feelings and
intentions. Piaget believed that by age seven children are no longer egocentric because they can
now see more than just their own point of view. It is important that teachers, who use Piaget s
theory to teach, design a classroom in which these theories can be focused on. In the layout
below you will see a design of a classroom that aligns with Piaget s theory and we will discuss
some activities that can be used in the classroom to help children develop in their learning. This
classroom is designed to promote growth and development so that young children can express
themselves while learning about the world around them. There will be several centers where the
children will be able to explore and learn through play both alone and in groups. The design
provides quiet areas for activities such as napping and reading and activity areas where they can
take part in dramatic play and construction. It is important that the classroom be print rich, so
everything in the class will be labeled with words and pictures this will help promote growth in
language skills (Funk, n.d.). The classroom design chosen allows easy access for students to move
freely without being overcrowded. In the dramatic play area children can play freely and use their
imagination to become whoever they

Guilt in Fifth Business by Robertson Davies
Guilt is the regret one experiences when they realise their action was not appropriate according to a
lawful or moral standard. In Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt was a major theme and was
essential throughout the novel. Davies used the three main characters, Dunstan Ramsay, Boy
Staunton, and Paul Dempster to illustrate the different effects of Mrs. Dempster s incident. The
way one is raised, the key disciplines they have developed and their way of thinking reflects how
they deal with guilt.
Boy Staunton was illustrated to have an interesting attitude. Through the lack of his morals and
principles he felt no guilt after the incident. I threw a snowball at you, and I guess it gave you a
good smack (Robertson Davies, pg. 27.) Boy took no responsibility over his action and blatantly
denied the guilt. Another example that displayed Boy s insensitiveness was when he was
involved in a sexual act with Mabel, a student at his school, at a time period when he was in a
relationship with Leola. His father played a major role in that situation as he bribed Mabel s
mother to not involve the authorities. Boy never apologized or showed discomfort in any way.
Lastly, he cheated on Leola, after their marriage. Leola found a note from one of his admirers and
in return Boy stated, There s no reason to carry on like that, but if you think I intend to be tied

Siddhartha-the Shape of Time Essay
For many Westerners, more specifically the driven citizens of the United States of America,
time is viewed as a straight line. Our children realize this, consciously or not, early on. They
make timelines in school, their classes switch on the hour, their intelligence is measured on a
scale. We are born, we come of age during adolescence. We set a goal, we work to achieve
success. Birth and death, childhood and adulthood are stages that occur only once. Life is black
and white. Separate. The past is the past, the future is the future. Traveling on a straight line, we
can only look forwards.

Lao Tzu, credited with penning the Tao Te Ching, noted that a good traveler has no fixed plans/and
is not intent on arriving. Thus, he rejected the linear concept of time, as did Siddhartha as he made
his journey.
The book opens with the title character s decision to leave his traditional Hindu community and
upbringing to seek Atman through asceticism. Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, adopt the life of
the Samanas. Siddhartha thinks, waits, and fasts. He struggles to free himself from The Self: the
materialistic, mortal part of him. But he is anxious to attain a state of bliss. As a young Brahmin,
he was always the strongest, the cleverest, the fastest. He expects to find the most efficient way to
Atman, just as he excelled in every other area of his life. The ascetic life disappoints him.
Siddhartha replied: `How old, do you think, is our oldest Samana, our worthy teacher?
Govinda said: `I think the eldest would be about sixty years old.
And Siddhartha said: `He is sixty years old and has not attained Nirvana. He will be seventy and
eighty years old, and you and I, we shall grow as old as he, and do exercises and fast

The Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire
Review of the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire by BELINDA B. STRAUSS, Mississippi State
University, Mississippi State, United States of America: DESCRIPTION. The Suicidal Ideation
Questionnaire (SIQ) is a self report assessment designed to determine an adolescent s present
level of suicidal ideation. Adolescents completing the SIQ are asked to report how often they
have suicidal thoughts. There are two forms of the SIQ, the SIQ and the SIQ JR. The SIQ, a 30
item scale, is developed for senior high schoolstudents in grades 10 12, and the SIQ JR, a 15 item
scale, is developed for junior high school students in grades 7 9. The SIQ is reported to require 5
10 minutes to complete and can be used in both large scale screening as well as individual
assessment. The SIQ seeks to assess thoughts of suicide, or suicidal ideation and not suicidal
behavior. As such, test administers are instructed to refer to individuals with high scores as scoring
high in suicidal ideation and not as suicidal.
DEVELOPMENT. Suicidal ideation as a construct is defined as the domain of thoughts and ideas
about: death, suicide, and serious self injurious behaviors, including thoughts related to the
planning, conduct, and outcome of suicidal behavior. 150 moderately to severely depressed
adolescents and young adults were interviewed in a clinical setting in order to construct specific
item content. In formulating the construct of suicidal ideation as a viable domain from which to

How To Neutralize Anti-Aircraft Warfare
The year was 1914. It all started in Sarajevo, Bosnia on July 28, 1914 with the assassination of
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife by a Serbian nationalist. This was the beginning of World
War I. By August 4, 1914 all the major players of World War I, Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and
Japan (the Allied Powers), and Austria Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire
(the Central
Powers), were at war. This war would go on for another four years where it finally concluded on
November 11, 1918 after Germany signed an armistice with the allies after they had suffered
serious losses in The Second Battle of the Marne. The war would present many unique challenges
for both sides, most importantly with the recent invention of the airplane and its use in military
operations. In order to counter this threat, all players needed to take into consideration how to take
down these planes in the most efficient way possible. This is how Anti Aircraft Artillery... Show

The majority of all AAA were used and produced in other countries. Such examples of these are
the Chevalier, Model 1918, Grande Puissance Filloux (GPF), Hotchkiss and a variety of

Britain and was armor piercing. The GPF and Hotchkiss were both outfitted to the American
Expeditionary Force (AEF) when they arrived in France in 1917. The Model 1918 was one of the
first AAA weapons that was actually produced by America; however, it was not fielded until
December 1918 after the armistice had already been signed. Lastly, the Improvised Fighting

The Satirical Transformation Of Gulliver Essay
The Satirical Transformation of Gulliver
Swift s Gulliver s Travels is difficult to come to terms with for a multitude of reasons. The most
immediate problem is that of genre. How may Gulliver s Travels be categorized? It s a fiction; it s
written in prose; it s a children s tale; it s a comedy; it s a tragedy; however, to say this is to say
very little. Clearly it s satirical, but that is not to say it s a satire. Arther E. Case, for example, thinks
that it s not a satire: it would be more accurate and more illuminating to call it a politico
sociological treatise much of which is couched in the medium of satire (Four Essays on Gulliver
s Travels p. 105). In response to Case s classification, I offer a question: what s the purpose of
formal specification if there are numerous imprecise labels to which this work may conform?
Swift s masterpiece should be entitled to its own donnГ©e; thus, for the sake of this essay, I will
shy from all comprehensive forms of categorization. Instead, I ll consider Gulliver s Travels on its
own terms, sui generis, to interpret its unique presuppositions, many of which are expressed
satirically. By allowing Gulliver, an uncritical lover of man, to become a hypercritical hater of
man, Swift has it both ways: Gulliver functions as both the object and instrument of satire (Four
Essays on Gulliver s Travels 106).
Perhaps one could reduce Gulliver s voyage to the country of the Houyhnhnms by describing it as
a carefully devised fable; however, this

Job Experience At College Graduates
Obtaining a job in today s society may seem difficult due to the ever increasing population of
college graduates promoting a healthy dose of competition, yet it will come naturally if one has
prior experience before obtaining a full time job. In my current stage of being a senior without
any job experience before graduating will prove to be tough to find a company willing to hire
someone as such. Almost all of my friends have some sort of job experience both in either industry
or in jobs not related to engineering. I on the other hand privately do have job experience, but this
is through a small family business manufacturing custom window treatments. Ever since I was a
young child, many professors told me to not cite family as a credible source of job experience. I
assumed this was said in order to prevent those that simply place inane job titles on their resume
when they in fact worked or observed only five minutes of the job. My job was to assist my
father in the manufacturing of curtains, pillows and roman shades; occasionally installing the
drapes in the client s home with the profits going towards the family. Money going towards my
family s funds has led to me not have to file any taxes and whatnot . Where whatnot is the
miscellaneous papers that I am not aware of in my current knowledge that s usually seen if one
had a job. I have attempted to place my work experience onto my resume as the section labeled
work experience is left blank, but the starting date looked

Hilton Hotel Case Study
The hotel units (mainly those operating in the luxury segment) believe that the sustainability of
their activity involves a balance between the economic benefits, and the social and environmental
responsibilities inherented to their actions.
The global objectives of these hotels are creating long term value for the company by developing
its activities in a balanced way and reconciling the interests of individuals, nature, and society.
The Hilton chain is currently the second largest hotel chain and the pioneer in global hospitality. It
is embedded in a highly competitive market, where preparation is the key. As such, the training of
employees, involvement with the environment, satisfaction and customer relationship are values
prioritised by the brand. For Hilton, the relationship with their customers, is the key to success;
values that Conrad Hilton has instituted in the brand since the first hotel was inaugurated. This
continued leadership is a consequence of the fidelity to the vision, mission and values instituted in
this hotel chain, in order to continue being the most hospitable organization in the world.
Our Planet is currently undergoing intense social, cultural, economic, and especially environmental
changes. In the middle of this process, tourism stands out because it is an activity that generates
considerable development factors. That is why hotel chains are reducing waste, water consumption
and investing in energy efficiency technologies .
In addition to the responsible business practices of Hilton, the corporation also ensures that their
suppliers are aligned with their core sustainable development practices. Keeping in mind the
development of programs and initiatives that support their commercial target, the hotel chain is
keen on managing the social and environmental impact of their operations. The achievement of
such goals and targets have lead to certain measures being taken such as: developing cross
functional advisory groups, ensuring their business is conducted with diverse suppliers,
involvement of local sourcing, and welfare of animals and their rights. In addition, the company
also takes into account the extension of their supply chain globally, as well as working with

The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy Essay
The term identity is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as blah blah blah . This concept can
be viewed as personal and individual to one s self, and is distinguished as an umbrella term to
attributes such as; consciousness, heritage, name, appearance, and the soul. As Sterne s novel
Tristram Shandy draws influence from John Locke s An Essay of Human Understanding, in which
Locke discusses the origin of personal identity, the individual identity is evidently reflected within
the text. The novel demonstrates Sterne s interpretation of the personal identity through the
construction of each of his unique characterisations. Tristram Shandy discusses the concept and

Sterne can be seen to draw influence from the 18th Century philosopher, John Locke. Locke
discusses the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and
not upon the soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity
of substance, but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the
other misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also
suggests an origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that
experiencing the many misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a
homunculus and broken nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a
misfortunate life. In response to reading Tristram Shandy alongside the work of Locke, Heather
Keenleyside states that such readings often understand Tristram Shandy as a novelization of Locke
s much discussed distinction [...] On this view, Tristram Shandy follows Locke in arguing for the
priority of personal identity over the body and its associates: the family and the species, birth and
death. (Keenleyside, pg117) The protagonist states that the soul and body are joint sharers in
everything they get (Sterne, pg435), composing them as separate but equal quantities of his

Vasco Da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan And Hernan Cortes
Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth century, Europeans widened their views on exploration.
They ventured out into unknown territories and countries that have never before seen a person
from Europe. These explorers would search the world, mainly looking for new people to convert to
Christianity or for wealth and riches. Countries such as Portugal, Spain, and England all developed
ways to gain wealth through travel, whether it be sending people to explore and hopefully find
valuables, or expanding economic theories. People such as Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan,
and Hernan Cortes, along with the idea of mercantilism, attempted to gain wealth through
exploration.
Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer, tried to gain wealth by venturing to India. The king had
asked da Gama to find a route to India that was easy to access. Vasco da Gama left for India on
July 8, 1497, and reached India for the first time on May 20, 1498 (Biography.com). When he
arrived at India for the second time, Portugal was able to set up trading posts and gain more
money, all because he had made the journey overseas. Throughout his adventures in India, Vasco
da Gama documented his experiences in his journal. His arrival in India and confrontation with
the king was one of these things. Da Gama says, They asked what he [da Gama] sought so far
away from home, and he told them that we came in search of Christians and of spices, (Document
1a). In response, the King of India said You owe great thanks to

Where, When, Why, and How. Who is purchasing and consuming sport products and services.
What is the competition, what do the customers want and need, and what factors influence

  • 7. John Keynes And Friedrich Hayek John Keynes and Friedrich Hayek where two of the most influential economic minds of the 20th century. Each of these men s ideas had a great impact on the economy of numerous countries and helped countries find economic success different times. Keynes and Hayek had opposite ideas on what created a working economy that would be successful and avoid economical depressions like that of the United States great depression and the European depressions that resulted from the two World Wars. Keynes believes that the best way to maintain a strong economy was to have government micromanage any and all aspects of the economy. He believes that in order to maintain full employment of citizens, countries must spend money to create jobs and to help struggling companies. Hayes believes that this was not the answer and would only result in more problems. Hayes felt that a market will be able to take care of its self and in order to ensure this government needed to avoid intervention to allow for a free economy to develop. During the time of war Keynes ideas were more successful because the government was able to make a large quantity of jobs for people through goods needed for the war. Since Keynes ideas were so widely used and accepted at this time, Hayek s ideas were rejected and considered bad because the purposed to do the opposite. After the good 30 years Keynes economic ideas began to show flaws through inflation and unemployment rates. This issue resulted from the restriction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The new city showed signs of the advancing world the Tati had lived in during the 1950 s. In the 1950 s France was recovering from war efforts from WWII. The new world shows how France was rebuilding many structures and factories, and how these things were not in common of what the old world was. This various range of colors had to do with the idea that Tati was hinting that even though the new world has tons of different and new technologies, there was not as much culture within it. The old world had lively colors, showing how different the two worlds really were. • 9. Reasons for Using Hops in Beer Hops are one of the ingredients in beer that contains bitter flavor. Hops are flowers of Humulus lupulus and usually it is used in brewing. Hop plants have four main structures, which are strig, bracteole, bract, and lupulin glands. Lupulin glands contain resins and essential oils. Bitterness comes from alpha acids in lupulin glands. According to textbook (2012), hopshave two basic market classes, bitterness and aroma. When hops are placed to the wort in the beginning of the boiling, it creates the bitterness. When hops are put into the boiling process at the end, it creates the hoppy aroma (Oliver, 2012, p. 459). The reason of adding aroma hops at the end is to minimize the evaporation (Agnew, 2008, p. 5). By boiling the hops, alpha acids are isomerized, which is a chemical process that changes alpha acids to provide bitterness. Hop s flavor and aroma are developed from essential oils in lupulin glands. The process is similar with bittering. The flavor comes from oil dissolving into the boiling wort. Bitterness of hop is measured by IBU. IBU is international Bitterness Unit that is a standard for measuring bitterness (Oliver, 2012, p. 489). According to textbook (2012), IBUs are calculated values composed of the quantity of material in wort of beerderived from hop resin, multiplied by the fraction 5/7 (Oliver, 2012, p. 490). There are several reasons for using hops in beer. According to textbook (2012), hops increase its microbiological stability, help stabilize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Absolute Monarchy And The Third Estate Under the absolute monarchy during the eighteenth century, there was a divide between the three estates with the Third Estate, which encompassed subjects with no formal title, being the outcast. The nobility and the clergy formed a cohesive unit that agreed on each other s needs, leaving the working men and women of the Third Estate to fend for themselves, which was a leading factor to the split between the Estates. Despite the famine and hunger that had affected some of the Third Estate, the aristocracy was still hosting lavish dinners. • 11. Correlation Between Race And Health Inequalities As the appointed Director of the World s Health Organization s Commission on Social Determinants of Health, I have the opportunity to examine the relationship between race and health inequalities. Race is a significant predictor of the distribution of health inequalities as it is quite notable that people with similar biological traits seem to experience a non random distribution of morbidity and mortality. There are various underlying factors of health inequalities in relation to race. This report will focus on the scientific misconception of racism, the consequences of colonization and environmental injustice. According to Smedley (2005) race is a societal construct for the categorization between groups of people. However, the field of medicine attributes racial biological differences as the causation of health inequalities. This is a questionable notion since scientists explained that humans are genetically 99.1% alike, with the remaining small percentage accounting for our phenotypical variation. Attributing genes as the answer to our health disparities leads to individuals believing that racial differences can be unaltered. This can be used to justify segregation of races and the superiority of certain groups, thus creating a lack of critical thinking of factors which actually contribute to certain health trends (Smedley Smedley, 2005). For example, in the film When the Bough Breaks (California Newsreel, 2008) African Americanwomen seem to have a disproportionate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The body typically produces lipase naturally but in some cases, people may need to use lipase supplements to assist them in digesting food. The test to measure the lipase enzymelevels in your body is sometimes known as serum lipase. This test measures the amount of lipase in your blood. • 14. Workplace Diversity In The Workplace Workplace Diversity Benefits and Employment Laws Workplace diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization. Diversity encompasses race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, education, back ground, cognitive style and much more. As the work places are becoming more multicultural and diverse, there is an increased need in understanding the dimensions of diversity and cultural differences that affects the business communication within organizations. A better understanding of these differences is not only important to effectively bridge such gaps but also helpful in identifying the unique strengths and perspectives, each diverse group brings, that an organization can benefit from. Globalization presents new markets at home and abroad, and firms increasingly recognize the importance of hiring a workforce that reflects their potential markets. Global companies strive to create an inclusive culture in which differences are recognized and valued. By bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and providing them opportunity to contribute their skills, experience and perspectives, companies are able to deliver the best innovative solutions to challenges and add value to their stakeholders. • 15. The Theories Of Child Development From the day they are born, children are immersed in a social world. Rapid learning takes place and is supported not only by parents, siblings, teachers and friends but also the important values and beliefs within their culture. All of this provides the foundations for cognitive development. As trainee teachers, it is fundamental that we have a deeper understanding of how children learn and how we can support learning. In order to do this we must first look at some of the theories of learning. Theories Prior to the early 20th century little interest was paid to how a child developed; indeed most early research appears to be based on abnormal childhood behaviour (Oates et al. 2005). However, over time researchers began to acknowledge that both genetics and environment factors impacted on the way a child developed. Although there are many theories of child development, in particular constructivism, behaviourism, social constructivism and social learning have influenced developmental psychology enormously (Oates et al. 2005). Many theorists and researchers have debated (and continue to debate) whether cognitive development is a continuous or discontinuous processUntitled (Crowley, 2014). Do cognitive processes advance with age (continuous) or is a child required to reach one stage of development before they can advance to the next (discontinuous)? Piaget (1952) based his theory on his belief that cognitive development occurred in four specific stages; sensori motor stage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Office is a half hour comedy, making it a procedural series, not a serialised series. So what does this mean? It means that in The Office there is no large or overrunning storyline that is constantly present or hinted at each episode and also throughout the entire series. Instead each episode of The Office is self contained, not influencing the episodes before or after. There are quite a number of mental disorders but I will only focus on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder because it is the most studied mental disorder and the most frequently diagnosed disorder especially in children. This disorder causes inability to pay attention, difficulty in controlling one s behaviors or causes one to be excessively active. A lot of misleading information about this disorder is everywhere in the communities and even the society. Some do not even believe it is real and therefore it is important to understand what this disorder is. Patients with these disorders will mostly act without thinking and therefore impacting on their families and loved ones. The actual cause of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders is not known but other factors may be a trigger. These factors may include genetics, the society and the environment (Joel 2006). Some medical conditions and previous brain infections or cases of trauma. This disproved the common view of preformation (Pagel 33). He published his final writings in the Essays on the Generation of Animals. After a productive and eventful life, William Harvey died in London on June 3, 1657. Through his investigation founded on beliefs of Aristotle, William Harvey was able to hypothesize on the movement of blood in the body. Prior to William Harvey s research , the medical view of blood in the body came from a Greek doctor by the name of Galen. Galen explained the flow of blood as a to and fro movement being pumped by the veins and arteries themselves. Galen also believed that blood was made and then used up in the body. His conclusions were drawn mainly from outer appearances (Bayon 444). This made Harvey s work more accurate because he performed specific experiments and calculations. One reason Harvey was able to determine the movement of blood through the body was founded in Aristotle s belief of the perfection of circular motion because it is continuous path (Pagel 28). William Harvey combined this idea with Arsitotle s view of the power of the heart to act independently of the brain. From these notions, Harvey created the theory of a constant circulation of blood throughout the body by the pumping of the heart. He began researching his hypothesis with a hen s egg. However big or small, everyone has experienced challenges in life. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarckthat species changed gradually over time. While these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection. Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist by his death. In the layout below you will see a design of a classroom that aligns with Piaget s theory and we will discuss some activities that can be used in the classroom to help children develop in their learning. This classroom is designed to promote growth and development so that young children can express themselves while learning about the world around them. There will be several centers where the children will be able to explore and learn through play both alone and in groups. The design provides quiet areas for activities such as napping and reading and activity areas where they can take part in dramatic play and construction. It is important that the classroom be print rich, so everything in the class will be labeled with words and pictures this will help promote growth in language skills (Funk, n.d.). The classroom design chosen allows easy access for students to move freely without being overcrowded. In the dramatic play area children can play freely and use their imagination to become whoever they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt was a major theme and was essential throughout the novel. Davies used the three main characters, Dunstan Ramsay, Boy Staunton, and Paul Dempster to illustrate the different effects of Mrs. Dempster s incident. The way one is raised, the key disciplines they have developed and their way of thinking reflects how they deal with guilt. Boy Staunton was illustrated to have an interesting attitude. Through the lack of his morals and principles he felt no guilt after the incident. I threw a snowball at you, and I guess it gave you a good smack (Robertson Davies, pg. 27.) Boy took no responsibility over his action and blatantly denied the guilt. Another example that displayed Boy s insensitiveness was when he was involved in a sexual act with Mabel, a student at his school, at a time period when he was in a relationship with Leola. His father played a major role in that situation as he bribed Mabel s mother to not involve the authorities. Boy never apologized or showed discomfort in any way. Lastly, he cheated on Leola, after their marriage. Leola found a note from one of his admirers and in return Boy stated, There s no reason to carry on like that, but if you think I intend to be tied down to this sort of thing, you can think again (pg.178.) Our children realize this, consciously or not, early on. They make timelines in school, their classes switch on the hour, their intelligence is measured on a scale. We are born, we come of age during adolescence. We set a goal, we work to achieve success. Birth and death, childhood and adulthood are stages that occur only once. Life is black and white. Separate. The past is the past, the future is the future. Traveling on a straight line, we can only look forwards. Eastern philosophy, on the other hand, might view time as a circle, a spiral, a figure eight. It was this idea that allowed Siddhartha to be reincarnated not in terms of physical life, but rather in terms of spirit. Lao Tzu, credited with penning the Tao Te Ching, noted that a good traveler has no fixed plans/and is not intent on arriving. Thus, he rejected the linear concept of time, as did Siddhartha as he made his journey. The book opens with the title character s decision to leave his traditional Hindu community and upbringing to seek Atman through asceticism. Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, adopt the life of the Samanas. Siddhartha thinks, waits, and fasts. He struggles to free himself from The Self: the materialistic, mortal part of him. But he is anxious to attain a state of bliss. As a young Brahmin, he was always the strongest, the cleverest, the fastest. He expects to find the most efficient way to Atman, just as he excelled in every other area of his life. The ascetic life disappoints him. Siddhartha replied: `How old, do you think, is our oldest Samana, our worthy teacher? Govinda said: `I think the eldest would be about sixty years old. And Siddhartha said: `He is sixty years old and has not attained Nirvana. He will be seventy and eighty years old, and you and I, we shall grow as old as he, and do exercises and fast ... STRAUSS, Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, United States of America: DESCRIPTION. The Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (SIQ) is a self report assessment designed to determine an adolescent s present level of suicidal ideation. Adolescents completing the SIQ are asked to report how often they have suicidal thoughts. There are two forms of the SIQ, the SIQ and the SIQ JR. The SIQ, a 30 item scale, is developed for senior high schoolstudents in grades 10 12, and the SIQ JR, a 15 item scale, is developed for junior high school students in grades 7 9. The SIQ is reported to require 5 10 minutes to complete and can be used in both large scale screening as well as individual assessment. The SIQ seeks to assess thoughts of suicide, or suicidal ideation and not suicidal behavior. As such, test administers are instructed to refer to individuals with high scores as scoring high in suicidal ideation and not as suicidal. DEVELOPMENT. Suicidal ideation as a construct is defined as the domain of thoughts and ideas about: death, suicide, and serious self injurious behaviors, including thoughts related to the planning, conduct, and outcome of suicidal behavior. 150 moderately to severely depressed adolescents and young adults were interviewed in a clinical setting in order to construct specific item content. • 47. The Satirical Transformation Of Gulliver Essay The Satirical Transformation of Gulliver Swift s Gulliver s Travels is difficult to come to terms with for a multitude of reasons. The most immediate problem is that of genre. How may Gulliver s Travels be categorized? It s a fiction; it s written in prose; it s a children s tale; it s a comedy; it s a tragedy; however, to say this is to say very little. Clearly it s satirical, but that is not to say it s a satire. Arther E. Case, for example, thinks that it s not a satire: it would be more accurate and more illuminating to call it a politico sociological treatise much of which is couched in the medium of satire (Four Essays on Gulliver s Travels p. 105). In response to Case s classification, I offer a question: what s the purpose of formal specification if there are numerous imprecise labels to which this work may conform? Swift s masterpiece should be entitled to its own donnГ©e; thus, for the sake of this essay, I will shy from all comprehensive forms of categorization. Instead, I ll consider Gulliver s Travels on its own terms, sui generis, to interpret its unique presuppositions, many of which are expressed satirically. By allowing Gulliver, an uncritical lover of man, to become a hypercritical hater of man, Swift has it both ways: Gulliver functions as both the object and instrument of satire (Four Essays on Gulliver s Travels 106). Perhaps one could reduce Gulliver s voyage to the country of the Houyhnhnms by describing it as a carefully devised fable; however, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This concept can be viewed as personal and individual to one s self, and is distinguished as an umbrella term to attributes such as; consciousness, heritage, name, appearance, and the soul. As Sterne s novel Tristram Shandy draws influence from John Locke s An Essay of Human Understanding, in which Locke discusses the origin of personal identity, the individual identity is evidently reflected within the text. Sterne can be seen to draw influence from the 18th Century philosopher, John Locke. Locke discusses the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and not upon the soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity of substance, but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the other misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also suggests an origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that experiencing the many misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a homunculus and broken nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a misfortunate life. In response to reading Tristram Shandy alongside the work of Locke, Heather Keenleyside states that such readings often understand Tristram Shandy as a novelization of Locke s much discussed distinction [...] On this view, Tristram Shandy follows Locke in arguing for the priority of personal identity over the body and its associates: the family and the species, birth and death.
