Frankenstein Free Will
Scott Adams once said [f]ree will is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest
pleasure. Even though most people have free will, they always choose the decision that will lead them
to the most happiness. If one is given a choice to be courageous and happy or safe but not satisfied,
the logical choice they would chose is the primary. This decision is evidently seen in John Milton s
Paradise Lost and the film The Matrix, where Eve from Paradise Lost and Neo from The Matrix face
an opportunity to discover pleasure or endure the same, boring life they were experiencing before. To
no surprise, the characters chose the happy route because their free will would not let them go the
other route of dissatisfaction. As a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The convincing arguments Satan and Morpheus provides makes the pathway for ignorance
nonexistent. When Morpheus holds out the red pill and blue pill, he tells Neo, [y]ou take the blue pill
and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe what you believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes (The
Matrix). Morpheus alludes to the story of Alice in Wonderland to convince Neo of all the great
possibilities that come with taking the red pill. He also repeats the word believe while discouraging
Neo from taking the blue pill which shows the uncertainty Neo will have to live with for the rest of
life. Neo is basically forced to take the red pill at this point because it will lead him to the path of
greatest pleasure. Additionally, Satan recounts his own experience of eating from the tree of
knowledge: do not believe / Those rigid threats of death; ye shall not die: / [...] Look on me, / Me who
have touched and tasted, yet both lived / And life more perfect have attained than fate (Milton 684
689). Satan uses logos to further attract Eve into eating the apple since he has firsthand knowledge of
the effects of the apple. He then uses the word life more perfect which sparks Eve s motive into eating
the apple. Even though Eve is basically forced to eat the apple, she is still thoughtful with her
decision. With the help of persuasive language, Eve and Neo are compelled into choosing the happiest
option in their

Silicon Based PV Cells
CHAPTER 2 SILICON BASED PV CELLS 2 2.1 Doping Procedure of Silicon based PV Cells A
Silicon solar PV Cell is a device which is made up of semiconductor materials that produce electricity
when exposed to light energy. [1] The doping process of a Silicon based PV Cell works by the
photovoltaic material converting the light energy, photons, it absorbs into electrical energy. [1] Light
(Photon) Energy  Electrical Energy Using a doping process, a p n junction is created in silicon as
shown below: From the image above the photons, light energy, prompt the electrons flowing from the
n junction to the p junction creating an electric current flow. [1] This is highlighted below: The
process of doping involves the addition of atoms with different number of electrons so it creates an
unbalanced number of electrons on the material that is being doped, in this case Silicon. [1] The
material being doped, in this case Silicon will carry a negative charge if the base material absorbs
excessive electrons. However, if the base material, Silicon, absorbs to little electrons then the material
will carry a positive charge. [1] To achieve a doped material, using Silicon then there are 2 methods:
Ion implantation of diffusion. These methods are carried out using Boron (B) to form a positively
charged doped material and Arsenide (As) or Phosphorus (P) to form a negatively charged doped
material. This is shown below: Ion Implantation can be achieved at room temperature for

Essay On Ancient Mesopotamian Religion
What similarities can you find between the religions of Ancient Mesopotamian today?
Much like tens of thousands of years ago, religion is still a central component of our lives today. Some
of the most popular religions today are Christianity and Judaism, both based on the Old
Testament/Hebrew Bible and both based in the Near East. Because of cultural assimilation within the
region, it would only be logical for the religions of today to share some similarities of those
established in Ancient Mesopotamia.
One of the most famous lines of the Bible takes place in Genesis 1:1, which states In the beginning
God created the heavens and earth. This line is much like a similar creation myth from the Sumerians
where Marduk creates the heavens and earth by using the body of the slain goddess Tiamut who
personified watery chaos, proceeded to create the universe by dividing Tiamat in two, one part
becoming the heavens and the other the earth with her breasts as mountains. From her eyes came the

In those days the world teemed, the people multiplied, the world bellowed like a wild bull.... In the
Old Testament, humanity has also grown, thus the beginning of the flood myth. Similarly, in both
myths a wise man is told of a catastrophic flood that is to take place by the hand of the gods (or God)
and he must quickly prepare. [B]ecause of his oath warned me in a dream ... tear down your house and
build a boat, abandon possessions [sic] and look for life, despise worldly goods and save your soul
alive. Tear down your house, I say, and build a boat.... Then take up into the boat the seed of all living
creatures.... The purpose of the floods is to destroy humanity. In the case of the Epic of Gilgamesh, it
is to deal with rowdy humans. In the case of the Old Testament, it is to destroy the humans who have
grown wicked and turned their backs to God and return the earth to its beginning as a watery

2. The Bank of Canada is interested in core inflation because compared to inflation, core inflation
exclude food, energy and those products with a unstable price. Core inflation as a measure of inflation
for policy purposes, it measures inflation more precisely. Core inflation represents the long run trend
in the price level. Compared to CPI, core inflation is generally lower because it tries to maintain the
price as it avoids high inflation and deflation over time.

We are currently analyzing how best to combine transportation and warehousing to serve the
Alberta market.
The decision that has to be determined is whether to have either one or two warehouses.
Given the current Alberta business, and given the newly acquired Calgary operation, should a new
packaging and warehousing facility be built or acquired in Edmonton, or should reliance be solely on
the currently underused Calgary facility. In a decision such as this, we performed ... Show more

Masculinity And Style In Hemingway And Carver
Masculinity and Style in Hemingway and Carver. The following will present the themes of
masculinity in relation to style in Raymond Carver and Ernest Hemingway. Both are major figures of
20th century US fiction, and both write about characters that struggle with male or masculine identity
and social expectations. These struggles often mean that other characters in their stories are the
victims. In other words, the problems that the characters experience, are both internalized but also
externalized toward others and this will be examined with specific author selections. It will be argued
in the following that there is a minimalism recognized at many levels of the style for both authors, but
this essay will explore the minimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is workplace degradation that happens to male characters in Carver stories, and these characters
are in turn, viewed as expressing these personal frustrations on those around them (Hall 177).
Hemingway wrote extensively about a character that will be examined in the following named Nick
Adams, and their own biographical parallel is a First World War experience that results in a dynamic
that gets played over and over. The character of Nick Adams like the figure of Hemingway, had to
return to a world after a shattering emotional war experience, and a good dimension of that world is
defined by the male expectations of it. The following will examine the theme of masculinity in
relation to style using two specific RC short stories. Cathedral and Why Don t you dance? are very
similar in structure and are useful for comparison. Both characters involve the dynamic of a couple
with a challenged relationship who encounter another male. In both stories, it is a younger couple, and
in both stories, the older male is partially defined by some eccentric and important features. In
Cathedral , the blind friend of a wife and her husband meet for the first time and there is a tension
between the couple over a few differences of expectations. In Why Don t you dance? , a young couple
walking along together encounter an older man who has

Denver, Colorado or as many know it as the mile high city, exactly one mile above sea level. Chicago,
Illinois holds one of the tallest skylines in the world, including three of the five tallest buildings in
America. The two cities vary dramatically, one is surrounded by Building s and the other mountains.
Chicago has multiple famous buildings and sculptures including the Willis tower. It s also well known
by many as the Sears tower, it is the second tallest skyscraper in America and eight tallest in the
world. One famous sculpture Chicago is known for is the Cloud gate in Milennium Park, mostly
known as the Bean. A famous tradition that many know about around America is when the Chicago

never married people (49.8%) are the highest percentages by quite the margin. Chicago s divorced
(8%), separated (5.7%), and widowed (2.5%) adult s percentages are just slightly different to Denver

the other hand, Chicago differs, there male to female ratio is 51.5:48.5, consisting of less women
unfortunately. Denver and Chicago are two very different cities, but when looking at ethnic origin,

Analysis Of The Great Awakening
The brand of education amongst slaves from the Great Awakening takes on several faces, some prove
to be profitable to the ideas spread by Whitefield while others prove to be detrimental to the
perception of educating slaves in Christianity that prevent the further expansion of evangelization to
slaves. Two portrayals of implementation of Awakening rhetoric are with the Bryan family, southern
planters in South Carolina, and Samuel Davies, a minister in Virginia. The Bryan family had a
connection with George Whitefield because they would provide assistance to evangelicals and in
particular with Whitefield s Bethesda orphanage in Georgia. They owned a plantation in South
Carolina that helped provide financial support for the orphanage and they were zealous about the new
wave of evangelicalism in the colonies and were seeking ways that they could implement the new
teachings into their lives. Jonathan Bryan began to seek reforms in the institution of slavery in South
Carolina by following the teachings of Whitefield. Their critiques of South Carolina were that there
was no time for slaves to convert to Christianity because they would generally work seven days a
week and not have the opportunity to hear about Christianity.
The Bryans reforms amongst slavery was not welcomed by many South Carolinians and a committee
was formed to investigate the level of reform that the Bryans had and the report said that a great

An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Essay
An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific
Most readers are familiar with the poetry of Robert Frost, but they may not be familiar with his poem
Once by the Pacific. This poem stands out from most of his popular poems, which frequently relate to
rural New England life. Many critics have thus commented that his works are too simple. Once by the
Pacific, however, seems to challenge this opinion, as it is one of Frost s more difficult poems to
interpret.
Although this poem also is connected with nature, the theme is more universal in that it could be
related to Armageddon, or the end of the world. Even though this theme may seem simple, it is really
complex because we do not know how Frost could possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, God promised in Genesis 9:15 that never again will the waters become a flood to destroy
all life. It seems that Frost portrays nature as having its own plan, as he writes with nature in the active
voice. Also, why does Frost speak of this in the past tense? Perhaps Frost was thinking back to the
Great Flood and painting a picture of someone by the shore before the waters started to rise. Thus, the
age Frost writes about could be interpreted as the pre Noah days on earth.
Perhaps Frost is not implying that the earth was or will be destroyed by flood, even though it seems
water is the destructive element. Frost could simply be creating a mood or atmosphere as a setting
before the destruction to come. The low and hairy clouds create a gloomy feeling that Frost later
describes as a night of dark intent. The intense images and confusing tense can fool the reader into
thinking that this event has already taken place. A close examination of the tense and words reveal that
the event has not occurred, but the strong images create a feeling of certainty that the end is beginning.
Frost brings this intensity to a climax with the line someone had better be prepared for rage. Also,
Frost speaks of an event much more powerful than flood with the last two lines, There would be more
than ocean water broken / Before God s last Put out the Light was

Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework
The Committee of Sponsoring Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework is a study that
establishes a common definition of internal control so as to meet the needs of various parties and it
provides a standard in which organizations can use to assess their control systems and determine if
and how to improve them. Since internal control is a process and addresses the achievement of
objectives, not all controls are relevant to an audit; the controls that may affect the reliability of
financial reporting are relevant to an audit.
In order for an audit of internal control to be performed in accordance with PCAOB requirements, the

Having a board of directors or audit committee oversee the company s financial reports helps prevent
management override of controls and management fraud, thus aiding in the effectiveness of internal
control.
Risk assessment contributes to effective internal control by allowing management to identify, analyze,
and respond to the variety of risks they re ordinarily faced with, including the risk of material
misstatements in the financial statements. Four factors that can result in increased financial reporting
are personnel changes, the organization grows rapidly, corporate restructurings, and the changing of or
adopting new accounting principles.
The accounting information system has five major objectives. The first one is to identify and record
transactions that are valid. The second one is to describe the transactions with sufficient detail to
permit proper classification of transactions for financial reporting. The third objective is to measure
the value of transactions in such a way that allows their proper monetary value to be recorded in the
financial statements. The fourth objective of the accounting information system is to determine the
time period in which transactions occurred so that they are recorded in the proper accounting period.
The fifth objective is to properly present the transactions and any related disclosures in the financial
statements.

Gulliver As A Misanthrope Essay
Misanthropic undercurrents have often been detected in Gulliver s Travels, usually unearthed and
expounded in connection to the fourth book of the travelogue. Through Gulliver, the fourth book
voices vehement misanthropy, with propounding the peaceful life of Houyhnhnms as an ideal model.
Gulliver is the resident misanthrope, detesting corrupted human nature and desiring to live as a
recluse. However, a close reading of the text provides us with a contradicting opinion, that of Swift s.
Though he seems to hate the follies and vices of mankind, he doesn t abandon his fellow humans,
rendering their cases hopeless. He denounces the incurable optimism of the Enlightenment and the
overemphasis on Reason, but also attempts to regain the dignity and ... Show more content on

There is a smooth generalisation of mankind, being disappointed with their endeavours and their very
existence. Humans are always ruled by their vices and any public good doesn t even seem remotely
possible. They can t be corrected by any role models even if it be the glorious Houyhnhnms, or by
worthwhile experiences. Gulliver seems to have willingly submitted to the horses and their supposedly
superior Reason . Even his discourse is culturally alien, spoken in the language of Houyhnhnms.
There is an indication of voluntary seclusion by the use of your species to refer to humans. As the
letter indicates, Gulliver seems to have given up any visionary scheme for correcting humankind s
follies and vices. Earlier, he had sought them to mend their natures by his travelogue s voiced morals,
if they were amenable to Reason. He had graciously given them six months to reform, but to no avail.
Humankind seemed to be inherently corrupted, and his ambitious project of reforming Yahoos was
perhaps absurd. Gulliver s hatred for humans, even for his own family is quite evident by the letter s
tenor. Moreover, such vehement misanthropy has to be traced out throughout the four books and how
it culminates in the fourth

Descriptive Letter
Il y a des fleurs partout pour qui veut bien les voir, Henry Matisse, or as google translate told me,
There are flowers everywhere for those who want to see them. That had been the first line of the first
letter. I remember every detail of the letter, as if I had found it in my faded yellow mailbox just this
morning. How could I not? This letter had changed my life forever. I was having a particularly
wearying morning that day, as people with both diabetes and kidney failure often do. I had not gotten
much sleep the night before, I woke up with a searing pain in my side, and my stomach felt hollow I
was so hungry. I was then discouraged when I remembered what my diet actually allowed (practically
nothing.) More time passed, and my stomach was putting up a fight, aching and growling. I had four
phone calls that morning, each person the same as the next. Asking how I was doing, and proceeding
to ball when I told them without a transplant, I may only have a year or less to live. When I was
finished comforting them, I would go back to the tedious work of morning chores, trying to complete
them without triggering any pain. When I finally did come to the task of getting the mail, I nearly
neglected to get it because what s the point anyways, but then mentally scolded myself for being
negative and went to get it. I remember shuffling through the medical bills, coupons, more medical
bills then finally coming across the letter. The envelope was smooth and white and it seemed

Comparing Canby s Tender Mercies
Tender Mercies is about Mac Sledge who a country singer with a troubled life. He is suffering from
alcoholism and has given up on relationships. Horton Foote wrote the screenplay 1983 with the
themes of love, relationships, and religion. Mac Sledge has a daughter from a previous marriage to
country singer, Dixie. The daughter, Sue Anne shows up to rekindle the father daughter relationship.
Rosa Lee and her son Sonny help Mac get back on his feet and start a new life with them. Rosa is a
hotel owner and a widow whose husband died in combat in Vietnam. I chose this movie because my

They bring him back from tragedy when his daughter dies in a car accident. At the end Mac is shown
playing catch with Sonny across the street. He looks so sad, but Foote shows that Mac is trying to
move forward with Sonny. Christianity plays a big part in this movie. I am Catholic, but once I started
praying and talking God, my life s perspective changed. Just like Mac, I saw that my life can be better
and happier. Mac getting baptized helped him find love and peace in the arms of God. Even though,
Sue Anne and Mac s father and daughter relationship was the greatest, he got the peace of mind that
his daughter was trying to accept

Enzyme Rate Lab Report
Analysis:
The 6°C had a rate of 0.133 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.0015 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to

producing an overall average of 0.042 kPa/sec. The 34°C had a rate of 0.014 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and
0.0008 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to 0.0074 kPa/sec. In 46°C, both trials resulted in 0.00
kPa/sec, producing an average of 0.00 kPa/sec. Compared to 24°C, 34°C, and 46°C, the 6°C had the
highest rate of enzyme activity. At 46°C, there is no rate of enzyme activity. The graph presents a
direct relationship between the temperature and rate of enzyme activity. The line of best fits shows
that as temperature increases, the rate of enzyme activity decreases.
Conclusion:
If the enzyme is placed in higher temperatures than its optimal temperature, then the rate of enzyme
activity will decrease or possibly denature. This hypothesis is proven correct throughout the
experiment results and findings. In this experiment, once the enzyme was placed in a temperature
beyond its optimal temperature of 37°C, the enzyme denatured. This ... Show more content on

variables in the experiment will make it easier to see the trend on a graph. Having freezing
temperature to very hot temperatures will help determine the optimal temperature of an enzyme, at

temperature range. Another scenario that could have been done differently to improve the results of
the experiment is the agitation of the yeast in test tube should have been done in a more consistent

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Carbonated Soft Drinks (CSD) industry has been notorious since the 1980s for excessive advertising
and huge outlays on promotion through media. Coca Cola and Pepsi, the two major players in this
industry have been known to spend as much as 35% of total expenditures on advertising.
This study was intended to study the impact of advertising outlays on total sales to figure out whether
there is method to this madness in CSD industry.
The results of the study on the advertising vs sales data of Coca Cola Company over the years 1993
2006 strongly support the decision of the company to engage so highly in promotion.
The covariance of advertising expenditure and sales was found to be 1.05
The correlation of advertising expenditure and sales was found to be .94
BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION
Background
In the late 18th century, scientists worked extensively on development of carbonated drinks, trying to
replicate the carbonated mineral water from natural springs. In 1767, Englishman Joseph Priestley,
discovered the method of making carbonated water. Swedish chemist Tobern Bergman invented ...

Frank Zappas s Testimony On Labeling Music
Frank Zappas s testimony on labeling music (specifically rock) that is explicit to listeners was
definitely unforgettable. His argument was vague and unrelated to the issue of labeling explicit music.
His testimony was off topic at times, and only helped ruin his argument along with his constant attacks
against the PMRC. It s actually hard to pinpoint what Mr. Zappa did well because for every positive
argument, he made a negative attack that lessened his credibility. Repeatedly, Frank Zappa destroys
his argument over and over until the very end of his testimony. Mr. Zappa seemed to have no filter on
his words and spoke on everything he thought was wrong with the PMRC and its founders. The

Zappa said, ladies, please be advised the $8.98 purchase price does not entitle you to a kiss on the foot

complete list of PMRC demands reads like an instruction manual for some sinister kind of toilet
training program to house break all composers and performers because of the lyrics of a few. Ladies,
how dare you? (Zappa, 1985, 4:59). This is an example of a generality and an appeal to fear. The
generality is when he says the PMRC with its rules is trying to house break all performers and
composers(all is an overly vague term) and the appeal to fear is when he tries to scare artists into
seeing how horrible the PMRC is with its sinister rules. However, this statement and others in his
testimony only made the senate see Frank Zappa as nothing more than irrelevant with his disrespectful
language. Throughout his entire testimony, Frank Zappa constantly went off topic along with verbally
attacking and being disrespectful towards the PMRC and congress. For example, he says, The major

two populations of finches are tracked over the course of 300 years on two different islands to see how
changing the traits of the birds and their environment affect their long term viability as a sustainable
population. Let s begin by doing a null experiment where conditions are identical on the two islands.

Why do you think the Darwin Island finches survived this time even though the clutch size was small?
a. The differences between Darwin Island and Wallace Island are just due to random chance. b.
Although clutch size was smaller on Darwin Island, the initial beak size was large enough to allow the
finches to utilize the hard seeds and survive. On both Darwin Island and Wallace Island the
populations grew and adapted to the hard seeds available. c. Clutch size must have increased on
Darwin Island. 9. Precipitation plays an important role in the evolution of these finches. Low levels of
precipitation results in plants that produce hard seeds. High levels of precipitation favor plants that
produce smaller softer seeds. Medium levels of rain produce medium seeds. Click the New Expt
button and then click the Change Inputs button. Click the Precipitation button. Notice the percentage
distribution of hard seeds, medium seeds, and soft seeds as precipitation is changed. Finches with
small beaks are better at utilizing soft seeds as a food source. Medium and hard seeds require larger
beaks. Increase the annual precipitation on Darwin Island to 100.0 cm/year and Wallace Island to 10.0
cm/year. Now click on the Beak Size button and set the initial beak size on both islands to 20 mm.

Centralization And Centralization Of China
In the case of China, reforms to consolidate and centralize the empire through urban projects started
during the late part of the Qin dynasty and adopted by its successor, the Han dynasty. In 221 B.C.,
Emperor Shih huang ti ordered that an extensive communications network be set up and required
walls, canals, and other physical obstructions to be removed. These steps facilitated the Imperial Court
s control, expedited communication throughout the empire, and strengthened centralization while
reducing the growth of local power in rural areas. In addition, he ordered a uniform road design across
the empire. The vast imperial highways that connected key political, economic, and military centers
were uniform in size and protected by an outer wall. Uniformity was also extended to the size of carts
that may use the roads. For easier ways to facilitate communication and travel, post stations were set
up along the highways at fixed distances to provide lodging and food for travelers. Stretching across
the empire, the roads covered two million square miles and consolidated the region into a single entity
through this massive communications network and unified transportation system under the state. Thus,
the communications network Han China adopted was extensive. Following Han China s policy of
territorial expansion, roads were essential to support military campaigns against the Xiongnu and
created stable conditions for the transit of goods over the Silk Road. Indeed, the Xiongnu

Homeless People Could Be a Great Resource
Have you ever felt so angry when you gave someone the money that you worked very hard to earn,
and then he or she wasted it on some unacceptable purposes? Yes, it has been one of my first lessons
since I immigrated to the United States. During January of 2012, most of the weekdays, my brother
gave a homeless man some quarters or one dollar when we were going to work. This homeless man
stood in an intersection and begged for charity from the public. However, my brother met him at a
convenient store, and witnessed him buying some lotteries. Should this homeless man spend his
begging money on gambling or on daily necessities such as foods and a place to sleep? Another
example is a homeless man who bought three houses and had four wives with some children from
public charity has been charged for tax problems. These men are a part of the large population of
homeless citizens in the United States. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, the
amount of homeless is roughly estimated to be between 2.3 million and 3.5 million people. That is
approximately 1 in 100 people living without a home or living on the streets every night with no job,
no car, and no responsibilities. Obviously, we need to figure out a way to fix these homeless problems.
Many experts have discussed and suggested uncounted solutions. However, we could easily fix the
homeless problem by gathering them and using them as a resource. As I mentioned, homeless people
could be a great resource. Just

The Cross And The Lynching Tree By James Cone
Decades have passed since the end of the American Civil War, a war in which hundreds of thousands
of individuals died defending what each considered to be just. One of the bloodiest wars in human
history, the repercussions of the Civil War did not finish when the South lost the war and African
American slaves gained their liberty. Continual tension existed between white and black citizens after
the South lost the right to possess slaves. The transition was especially hard to handle by white
citizens who, for decades, failed to recognize the human dignity of their fellow black citizens.
There are many narratives and historical texts that illustrate the racial tension prevalent especially in
the South of the United States. One of such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cone s main point in his book is the relationship between the lynching of thousands of African
Americans and Jesus death by the cross. He argues that lynching of black citizens became the
American way of crucifixion of black people. In his book, Cone highlights the suffering of thousands
of black citizens from hatred from a Christian perspective. Analyzing history with a metaphor little

There exist, in fact, certain commonalities between lynching in America and Roman crucifixion.
Crucifixion served the Romans as a warning spectacle to demonstrate dominance, and to warn people
that any action taken against the Roman governance, was worth punishment.2 The crucifixion of Jesus

The Population s Natural Resources
Togo s environment consists of a fair amount of diversity with gently sloping savanna hills in the
north, expansive lagoons and marshes stretching from the coastal plain in the south, and hills and
plateaus in the central region of the country. The nation s natural resources are made up predominately
of phosphates, limestone, marble, and arable land. As of 2011 their total renewable water resources are
14.7 cu km, with total withdrawals in 2005 only at 0.17 cu km per year, suggesting they have enough
water resources to meet the growing needs of their people for the time being. The percentage of
endogenous freshwater supply withdrawn for use by Togo as listed by The World Resources Institute
is about 1% annually. The more difficult issue for Togo will be protecting the water quality and
finding the financing and resources to expand infrastructure to provide a much larger % of the
population with access to improved water and sanitation. Natural hazards for Togo are hot
temperatures, intermittent droughts, and dry Harmattan winds causing reductions in visibility. The
country s most troubling environmental issues include deforestation from slash and burn agriculture
combined with the harvesting of wood for fuel. Water pollution causing health hazards with drinking
water sources, and harming the fishing industry. Additionally, increasing urbanization and
development is causing rises air pollution, which has become more threatening to their urban

The Theme Of Abandonment In Death Of A Salesman By Willy...

In Death of a Salesman , Willy s lack of freedom is directly linked to his economic security and his
unachievable American Dream. Linda and Willy are confined by their own small apartment, socio
economic status, and the need for basic necessities with no way out. Willy had the freedom to make
choices, to learn from those around him and to take a chance once or twice; however, he chose to keep
making mistakes until he was so far in debt that he had no freedom to make choices. Ultimately this
play analyzes the American Dream itself and questions the validity of such an option for everyone in
the system and whether they can achieve fulfillment. Perhaps its luck, intelligence, or timing, but one
thing is for sure, Willy never had it. As for Amanda, Tom, and Laura in the Glass Menagerie , the
confinement of their small apartment, bad job, and the inability to break free leaves them lacking
fulfillment. Amanda s freedom dissolved years ago when her husband left and confined her to
thoughts of the past. Amanda s goal is to give Laura the freedom she so very much desires; however,
Laura ends up losing all freedom and confines herself in a world of glass animals. Freedom to the
main characters can come from two realizations: escape from reality, or escape from family. Either
way, there s no way for them to achieve fulfillment. Therefore, both Death of a Salesman and

  • 2. Frankenstein Free Will Scott Adams once said [f]ree will is an illusion. People always choose the perceived path of greatest pleasure. Even though most people have free will, they always choose the decision that will lead them to the most happiness. If one is given a choice to be courageous and happy or safe but not satisfied, the logical choice they would chose is the primary. This decision is evidently seen in John Milton s Paradise Lost and the film The Matrix, where Eve from Paradise Lost and Neo from The Matrix face an opportunity to discover pleasure or endure the same, boring life they were experiencing before. To no surprise, the characters chose the happy route because their free will would not let them go the other route of dissatisfaction. As a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The convincing arguments Satan and Morpheus provides makes the pathway for ignorance nonexistent. When Morpheus holds out the red pill and blue pill, he tells Neo, [y]ou take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe what you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes (The Matrix). Morpheus alludes to the story of Alice in Wonderland to convince Neo of all the great possibilities that come with taking the red pill. He also repeats the word believe while discouraging Neo from taking the blue pill which shows the uncertainty Neo will have to live with for the rest of life. Neo is basically forced to take the red pill at this point because it will lead him to the path of greatest pleasure. Additionally, Satan recounts his own experience of eating from the tree of knowledge: do not believe / Those rigid threats of death; ye shall not die: / [...] Look on me, / Me who have touched and tasted, yet both lived / And life more perfect have attained than fate (Milton 684 689). Satan uses logos to further attract Eve into eating the apple since he has firsthand knowledge of the effects of the apple. He then uses the word life more perfect which sparks Eve s motive into eating the apple. Even though Eve is basically forced to eat the apple, she is still thoughtful with her decision. With the help of persuasive language, Eve and Neo are compelled into choosing the happiest option in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Silicon Based PV Cells CHAPTER 2 SILICON BASED PV CELLS 2 2.1 Doping Procedure of Silicon based PV Cells A Silicon solar PV Cell is a device which is made up of semiconductor materials that produce electricity when exposed to light energy. [1] The doping process of a Silicon based PV Cell works by the photovoltaic material converting the light energy, photons, it absorbs into electrical energy. [1] Light (Photon) Energy  Electrical Energy Using a doping process, a p n junction is created in silicon as shown below: From the image above the photons, light energy, prompt the electrons flowing from the n junction to the p junction creating an electric current flow. [1] This is highlighted below: The process of doping involves the addition of atoms with different number of electrons so it creates an unbalanced number of electrons on the material that is being doped, in this case Silicon. [1] The material being doped, in this case Silicon will carry a negative charge if the base material absorbs excessive electrons. However, if the base material, Silicon, absorbs to little electrons then the material will carry a positive charge. [1] To achieve a doped material, using Silicon then there are 2 methods: Ion implantation of diffusion. These methods are carried out using Boron (B) to form a positively charged doped material and Arsenide (As) or Phosphorus (P) to form a negatively charged doped material. This is shown below: Ion Implantation can be achieved at room temperature for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Ancient Mesopotamian Religion What similarities can you find between the religions of Ancient Mesopotamian today? Much like tens of thousands of years ago, religion is still a central component of our lives today. Some of the most popular religions today are Christianity and Judaism, both based on the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and both based in the Near East. Because of cultural assimilation within the region, it would only be logical for the religions of today to share some similarities of those established in Ancient Mesopotamia. One of the most famous lines of the Bible takes place in Genesis 1:1, which states In the beginning God created the heavens and earth. This line is much like a similar creation myth from the Sumerians where Marduk creates the heavens and earth by using the body of the slain goddess Tiamut who personified watery chaos, proceeded to create the universe by dividing Tiamat in two, one part becoming the heavens and the other the earth with her breasts as mountains. From her eyes came the Tigris and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In those days the world teemed, the people multiplied, the world bellowed like a wild bull.... In the Old Testament, humanity has also grown, thus the beginning of the flood myth. Similarly, in both myths a wise man is told of a catastrophic flood that is to take place by the hand of the gods (or God) and he must quickly prepare. [B]ecause of his oath warned me in a dream ... tear down your house and build a boat, abandon possessions [sic] and look for life, despise worldly goods and save your soul alive. Tear down your house, I say, and build a boat.... Then take up into the boat the seed of all living creatures.... The purpose of the floods is to destroy humanity. In the case of the Epic of Gilgamesh, it is to deal with rowdy humans. In the case of the Old Testament, it is to destroy the humans who have grown wicked and turned their backs to God and return the earth to its beginning as a watery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Masculinity And Style In Hemingway And Carver Masculinity and Style in Hemingway and Carver. The following will present the themes of masculinity in relation to style in Raymond Carver and Ernest Hemingway. Both are major figures of 20th century US fiction, and both write about characters that struggle with male or masculine identity and social expectations. These struggles often mean that other characters in their stories are the victims. In other words, the problems that the characters experience, are both internalized but also externalized toward others and this will be examined with specific author selections. It will be argued in the following that there is a minimalism recognized at many levels of the style for both authors, but this essay will explore the minimal ... There is workplace degradation that happens to male characters in Carver stories, and these characters are in turn, viewed as expressing these personal frustrations on those around them (Hall 177). Hemingway wrote extensively about a character that will be examined in the following named Nick Adams, and their own biographical parallel is a First World War experience that results in a dynamic that gets played over and over. The character of Nick Adams like the figure of Hemingway, had to return to a world after a shattering emotional war experience, and a good dimension of that world is defined by the male expectations of it. The following will examine the theme of masculinity in relation to style using two specific RC short stories. Cathedral and Why Don t you dance? are very similar in structure and are useful for comparison. Both characters involve the dynamic of a couple with a challenged relationship who encounter another male. In both stories, it is a younger couple, and in both stories, the older male is partially defined by some eccentric and important features. In Cathedral , the blind friend of a wife and her husband meet for the first time and there is a tension between the couple over a few differences of expectations. • 14. Analysis Of The Great Awakening The brand of education amongst slaves from the Great Awakening takes on several faces, some prove to be profitable to the ideas spread by Whitefield while others prove to be detrimental to the perception of educating slaves in Christianity that prevent the further expansion of evangelization to slaves. Two portrayals of implementation of Awakening rhetoric are with the Bryan family, southern planters in South Carolina, and Samuel Davies, a minister in Virginia. The Bryan family had a connection with George Whitefield because they would provide assistance to evangelicals and in particular with Whitefield s Bethesda orphanage in Georgia. They owned a plantation in South Carolina that helped provide financial support for the orphanage and they were zealous about the new wave of evangelicalism in the colonies and were seeking ways that they could implement the new teachings into their lives. Jonathan Bryan began to seek reforms in the institution of slavery in South Carolina by following the teachings of Whitefield. Their critiques of South Carolina were that there was no time for slaves to convert to Christianity because they would generally work seven days a week and not have the opportunity to hear about Christianity. The Bryans reforms amongst slavery was not welcomed by many South Carolinians and a committee was formed to investigate the level of reform that the Bryans had and the report said that a great Numbers of Negroes and other Slaves have several Times ... • 16. An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Essay An Analysis of Robert Frost s Once by the Pacific Most readers are familiar with the poetry of Robert Frost, but they may not be familiar with his poem Once by the Pacific. This poem stands out from most of his popular poems, which frequently relate to rural New England life. Many critics have thus commented that his works are too simple. Once by the Pacific, however, seems to challenge this opinion, as it is one of Frost s more difficult poems to interpret. Although this poem also is connected with nature, the theme is more universal in that it could be related to Armageddon, or the end of the world. Even though this theme may seem simple, it is really complex because we do not know how Frost could possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, God promised in Genesis 9:15 that never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. It seems that Frost portrays nature as having its own plan, as he writes with nature in the active voice. Also, why does Frost speak of this in the past tense? Perhaps Frost was thinking back to the Great Flood and painting a picture of someone by the shore before the waters started to rise. Thus, the age Frost writes about could be interpreted as the pre Noah days on earth. Perhaps Frost is not implying that the earth was or will be destroyed by flood, even though it seems water is the destructive element. Frost could simply be creating a mood or atmosphere as a setting before the destruction to come. The low and hairy clouds create a gloomy feeling that Frost later describes as a night of dark intent. The intense images and confusing tense can fool the reader into thinking that this event has already taken place. A close examination of the tense and words reveal that the event has not occurred, but the strong images create a feeling of certainty that the end is beginning. Frost brings this intensity to a climax with the line someone had better be prepared for rage. Also, Frost speaks of an event much more powerful than flood with the last two lines, There would be more than ocean water broken / Before God s last Put out the Light was ... Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework The Committee of Sponsoring Organization s Internal Control Integrated Framework is a study that establishes a common definition of internal control so as to meet the needs of various parties and it provides a standard in which organizations can use to assess their control systems and determine if and how to improve them. Since internal control is a process and addresses the achievement of objectives, not all controls are relevant to an audit; the controls that may affect the reliability of financial reporting are relevant to an audit. Through Gulliver, the fourth book voices vehement misanthropy, with propounding the peaceful life of Houyhnhnms as an ideal model. Gulliver is the resident misanthrope, detesting corrupted human nature and desiring to live as a recluse. However, a close reading of the text provides us with a contradicting opinion, that of Swift s. Though he seems to hate the follies and vices of mankind, he doesn t abandon his fellow humans, rendering their cases hopeless. Humans are always ruled by their vices and any public good doesn t even seem remotely possible. They can t be corrected by any role models even if it be the glorious Houyhnhnms, or by worthwhile experiences. Gulliver seems to have willingly submitted to the horses and their supposedly superior Reason . Even his discourse is culturally alien, spoken in the language of Houyhnhnms. There is an indication of voluntary seclusion by the use of your species to refer to humans. As the letter indicates, Gulliver seems to have given up any visionary scheme for correcting humankind s follies and vices. Earlier, he had sought them to mend their natures by his travelogue s voiced morals, if they were amenable to Reason. He had graciously given them six months to reform, but to no avail. Humankind seemed to be inherently corrupted, and his ambitious project of reforming Yahoos was perhaps absurd. Gulliver s hatred for humans, even for his own family is quite evident by the letter s tenor. That had been the first line of the first letter. I remember every detail of the letter, as if I had found it in my faded yellow mailbox just this morning. How could I not? This letter had changed my life forever. I was having a particularly wearying morning that day, as people with both diabetes and kidney failure often do. In 221 B.C., Emperor Shih huang ti ordered that an extensive communications network be set up and required walls, canals, and other physical obstructions to be removed. These steps facilitated the Imperial Court s control, expedited communication throughout the empire, and strengthened centralization while reducing the growth of local power in rural areas. In addition, he ordered a uniform road design across the empire. The vast imperial highways that connected key political, economic, and military centers were uniform in size and protected by an outer wall. Uniformity was also extended to the size of carts that may use the roads. For easier ways to facilitate communication and travel, post stations were set up along the highways at fixed distances to provide lodging and food for travelers.
