The Yellow Wallpaper, By William Faulkner
In a struggle to retain what they believe is tangible, two very different, yet so analogous women are
introduced in the diverse domains produced by two authors. The first, Charlotte Gilman s The Yellow
Wallpaper, where the narrator is a woman from an upper middle class upbringing who s taken to a
house by her husband for their summer vacation where she begins to feel confined and the later,
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, where Emily is the daughter of an influential man who does
become confined to her house after her father passes away. Although their stories are written by two
very different people, the women share an eerie resemblance as they begin to fall into an insanity
driven by fixation. To explore and understand these connections, one must look into themes and
symbolisms to further magnify the foundation of their stories. The initial similarity between both
women is their state of being alone in love. After all, the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper finds no
comfort in her husband, although she attempts to convince herself that he loves her, she also finds
herself wishing him away stating I am glad my case is not serious! as it would lead John to stay all
night with her confining her even more that she already feels that she is (958). Alternately, the reason
Emily from A Rose for Emily is left alone in her house is due to the fact that her sweetheart had
abandoned her after her father had died, which contributed to her state of isolation (715). It

Childhood Obesity Is Becoming A Major Public Health Crisis...
Introduction
Childhood obesity is becoming a major public health crisis in both children and adults. The American
Heritage dictionary simply defines obesity as a condition of increased body weight that is due to
excessive build up of fat in the body. The CDC (Center for Disease Control), use the BMI (Basal
Metabolic Index) and CDC growth charts to determine obesity and overweight in adolescents and
children. The BMI for age percentile is determined by plotting the BMI value. Using this chart,
obesity is defined as a BMI value that is at or above the 95th percentile for children who are of the
same sex and age. Overweight is described as a BMI value at or above the 85th percentile but lower
than the 95th percentile. Between the year 2003 and 2006, a National Health and Nutrition study
indicated that at least 31.9 percent of both children and adolescents were overweight, and 16.3 percent
were obese (Lossing, 2010). The number of obesity has increased significantly over the years causing
it to be designated as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1998(Jadavji
2006). Cases of childhood obesity are highest in developed countries. However, there is a steady
increase in its prevalence in developing countries also. Interestingly, there are proportionately more
overweight girls than boys, especially among adolescents. Childhood obesity has significant
consequences on both the psychological and physical health of a child. These consequences include;

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope
The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the
lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the glass as
this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around the edges
because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the telescope so
this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when white light
goes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than red, the violet is
brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this is called chromatic
aberration. Some advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified through
an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are different
depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by refracting light rays
that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface. When it hits the boundary
the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or plastic. Since the light rays are
passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they travel slow in, it will bend towards
the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is formed in a refracting telescope because
the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the light travels through the lense because the
surface is transparent the light travels through the lense and meets a focal point on the other side to
create an image that is real, magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted
because the image is formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like
a mirror. For example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image
he will see is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the
image to be inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the
distance of image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm
in front with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, ⅛=1/12+1/di, ⅛ 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this
equation allows us to find the distance of

GREENoneTEC case analysis

Arnaud Work presented to: Anna Thomasson Ola Mattisson BUSINESS POLICY FEKH11
Wednesday, March 18th 2015 To be able to help GREENoneTEC management to develop the
company, we need to analyze the product and company first. The company is part of the solar industry
and went from a one man business into one of the industry leaders in manufacturing flat plate solar
thermal collectors for water heating. In 2003, Kioto became GREENoneTEC s sister company by
manufacturing photovoltaics modules. The plan was to exploit all opportunities of the market.

Finally, we can point out another main challenge for GREENoneTEC that is the rise of raw material
costs which have extremely increased since 1995 (the price of copper had increased by more than 150
percent in 16 years for example). Thus our company has to deal with this increase by looking for
opportunities to reduce the costs of production. It can play on economic scale, searching new suppliers
less expensive or even changing the conception of its products with different raw materials. We can
notice that GREENoneTEC is facing challenges related to the Asian competition, to the search of new
customers and to the lowering of its costs of production. The company needs to confront these
challenges to stand out from the other companies on the solar market and to ensure its permanence.
Solar industry The solar industry is divided in three main markets: the European solar thermal market,
the Chinese market and the market in other world regions. The industry is segmented in two main
types of solar thermal collectors, which are evacuated tube collectors (80 per cent on average of the
worldwide newly installed capacity in 2010) and flat plate collectors (20 per cent on average). This
industry is characteristic of technology intensive industries with their central innovation: solar thermal
water heating which radically reduces costs. They can also count on experimented installers. Each

Analyzing the Poem, The Woodcarver, and How it Relates to...
I have entered into the field of education with full knowledge that it can be very challenging but it is
my venture to make it gratifying for both my students and myself. A crucial point of The Woodcarver
is the ability to focus. Once the woodcarver was finished with his work, all credits were taken from
him and given to higher powers. Similarly, once I am able to bring the task at hand to the central point
of my concentration, then I am bond to astonish many, including myself. I particularly gain wisdom
from the fact that The woodcarver guarded his spirit and did not expend it on trifles that were not to
the point. Burning up energy on issues that have nothing to do with the mission at hand is detrimental
to success. Like The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had to lose self and I went on my knees and pray to God to give me guidance and direction. Most of
my days were spent on seeking and finding interesting ways or strategies to reach him. I totally forgot
about my friends or even the principal s criticism, just like the woodcarver and put all my focus on
John, the learner. I started from basic and built on what he already knew. We used a lot of repetition
and made sure we stayed on task. We worked hard and he graduated reading on a third grade level.
When he first came to me, If I were able to have one solitary thought, which was John, and not my
peers or elevating myself, time would not have been wasted and maybe he could have excel to reading
at least on a fourth grade level. In order to truly liberate the learner in him, it was necessary to go
beyond blame, success and my ego. When John came to me, I saw him as hopeless because of how he
carried and conducted himself. I saw his deficiencies and ignore his potentialities. The Woodcarver
found the hidden potential in the tree and with all his tools in hand was able to create a grand
masterpiece that had everyone astonished. We cannot prejudge but we should think of the resources
available and how we are going to make these precious woods into bell stands, grand masterpieces
ready for society. When I read the first two lines, Kling,

Bruno Mars Research Paper
Bruno Mars, both a singer and a songwriter has made himself quite popular in the 21st century. Mars
was born as Pete Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8, 1985. While he was still a child,
he attained Bruno as a nickname. He grew up in a family that was very melodious, his dad Pete was a
Latin percussionist and his mom on the other hand was a singer. Mars had the opportunity to be in
performances with his family such as a Las Vegas style Revue that they performed with Motown hits
and celebrity impersonations. When he was four years old he decided to join the family musical act
and became an Elvis impersonator, and as he got older he started to impersonate Michael Jackson.
Since Mars was always around such entertainment and talent at a very young age he learned a lot of
skills on his own such as learning how to play instruments like the guitar or the piano. ... Show more

Impact Of Trade Policies On Trade Patterns Between Usa And...
The impact of trade policies on the trade patterns between USA and China and the analysis of China s
manufacturing sector of IT products vis a vis consumption sector of the US. Abstract Introduction The
following paper coherently illustrates the trade patterns of USA and China and describes the various
trade policies developed over the past years that have impacted the respective economies of both
countries alongside the effect of the same on the bilateral trade relations between the two. Based upon
the previous statistics, US China trade is considerably one of the largest trading partners in today s
economies. Both countries trade relations entail exchange of investment, services as well as goods
varying from agricultural products to non agricultural products. Currently, China is the second largest
trading partner, third largest export market and the biggest source of imports for the United States. The
U.S. government s debt purchased by China provides US the benefits of low interest rates (Morrison,
2015). While for few this economic relationship is considered to have a positive effect as it helps to
fund the U.S. economy, for others it is an attributable concern that China may gain more power over
the U.S (Loc.gov, 2016). Some major trade policies have negatively impacted the trade patterns of the
two countries in a way that in spite of their growing ties, the bilateral trade relationship is often laden
with complexities. According to U.S., China s unfinished

Lessons Learned In The True American
While reading the freshman reader The True American, I discovered that we all could take away some
important lessons from this book. This book is filled with many different lessons we all could learn,
but it just depends on how you comprehend it. The first lesson I believe people can learn is that even if
you get hurt by someone doesn t mean you should want them to suffer. I think this lesson is important
because to many people today always wants karma to happen to others, once they have done
something to them. Another lesson I think people can learn from this book is never change your
feelings about yourself and who you are. These lessons are just a couple of the lessons found in The
True American. People always seem to think that because

The Tell Tale Heart Literary Analysis
Developing Horror
Horror is fiction that scares the audience or gives an eerie mood. Each short story develops horror is
its own way. The Tell Tale Heart is about how an old man is murdered because of his evil vulture eye.
A Rose for Emily is about how an old woman poisoned her lover to keep him from leaving. The
Lottery is about how this town has a drawing to see who will be the sacrifice to the crops. Horror is
developed in The Tell Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, and The Lottery with many elements of horror.
First, horror is developed in The Tell Tale Heart by the insanity of the narrator. The narrator believes
he is a sane person, but contradicted himself when he kills the old man. This creates a complex in the
character s mind. When the police shows because the neighbors heard a yell, he begins to hear the old
man s heartbeat, but his guilt consumes him and he confesses to murdering the old man and putting his
body underneath the floorboards. Also, in the beginning of the story, the narrator describes why he
wants to kill the old man. It was impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once
conceived, it haunted me day and night (Para. 2). His insane idea of killing the old man because of his
vulture eye pops into his thoughts without a preconceived notion of doing so. The murder is
premeditated and thought out as each night he cracks the door open and glares the lantern directly at
the vulture eye. The insanity of the narrator develops The Tell Tale Heart into horror.
Next, horror is developed in A Rose for Emily by the southern gothic elements. Emily s psychological
issues depict a twisted turn in the story. When Emily keeps her father s body in her house for three
days after he died, it sets up for a future turn of events. After she dies, the town women go to her
house, but when they get to her house and go inside; they discover her lover petrified in the upstairs
room. The man himself lay in the bed. For a long while we just stood there, looking down at the
profound and fleshless grin (Para. 58). Homer, her lover and husband to be, was dead in the bed.
Emily poisoned him because she did not want him to leave again, so she could keep him forever. She

Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World is a fictional book, written by Jennifer Armstrong. It tells the
true and extraordinary tale of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition, led by Sir Ernest Shackleton
1914 17. All of the men worked extremely hard to get back home alive, but three men stood out the
most. Those three men are: Sir Ernest Shackleton, Frank Worsley, and Tom Crean. These men were
definitely the most essential to the entire expedition, and took part in almost every single task
executed. Shackleton was the most essential part to the whole expedition. He is also often called the
Boss. This just shows how much the men look up to him, because what the Boss says, goes.

On May 25, 1914, Crean joined Shackleton s expedition as a second officer, with a varied range of
duties. Crean had been on two previous journey s with Shackleton, and Shackleton trusted him. Tom
Crean, another Irishman and a tough sailor, had also been south with Shackleton before, and proudly
wore Britain s snow white Polar Medal on his jacket. (pg 7). Crean was also in charge of one of the
dog teams, and he later took care of the pups, that one of his dogs produced rather early in the
expedition. There were six dog teams for the overland journey to be made once Endurance got under
way again. The drivers were: James McIlory and Alexander Macklin, the two doctors; Frank Hurley,
the photographer; Frank Wild, Shackleton s loyal second in command; Tom Crean, the Antarctic
veteran; and George Marston, the expedition artist. (29). Tom Crean made a miniature sled for his
puppies, and Worsley described their first attempt at pulling. Crean put his 4 pups in harness for the
first time... their howls of terror resound for miles around... they pursue a devious and uncertain
course... and they flounder and puff and pant along through the snow until to their joy they are headed
for the ship and for a few minutes drag thee hated sledge as fast as a dog team. (pg 37). Crean also
took charge of the Stancomb Wills, on the way to Elephant Island. Crean and Hubert Hudson, the
navigating officer of the Endurance, piloted their lifeboat with Crean effectively in charge as Hudson
appeared to have suffered a breakdown. (Alexander, pg 127). Once they had finally reached Elephant
Island, Crean was one of the men ordered to go find a safe camping ground, because he was one of the
four fittest men . Frank Wild, who would be in command of the party remaining on Elephant Island,
wanted the dependable Crean to stay with him; (Alexander, pg 127) Shackleton initially agreed, but
changed his mind after Crean begged to be included

Tully s company overall has a great relationship within its four walls. Each department has a

they work in multiple offices. This is done on purpose so that each department talks to each other. So
for the marketing department and sale department this is no different. Within these two departments
they work closely together on creating relationships with customers here in the U.S. and overseas. Part
of the Tully s brand is that they help aid communities that they operate in and this is part of their

Sarah Kane Crave Analyse
My over arching idea for my production of Crave is that I want to give the play some context while
also maintaining the theme that these characters could represent anyone. The reason I want to give the
play some background is because on my first read of the play, before I read the Saunders article in
which Sarah Kane talks about the relationships between C and A, and B and M, a lot of the themes of
the play were lost on me because I was so focused on trying to figure out what was going on. I know
Sarah Kane didn t want the characters to get stuck in specific categories, but by establishing
relationships between the characters I think the audience will be able to focus more on what the
characters are saying and less on trying to discern what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t want the rest of the stage to be dark though, as that would isolate the characters when I want
them to talk to each other, so the rest of the stage is slightly dimmer then the spots. The tone and color
of the fill lights changes slightly throughout the show, following the color changes of the cyclorama.
The cyc is my central design element for the show. When I read Crave, it seemed to me that the play
was divided into different emotional sections, and I want to use the cyc to reflect that. When the lights
come up after the characters enter, I want the cyc to be a medium dark purple, which I think helps give
the feeling that the play is taking place in the city, which is what I gathered from the dialogue. The
purple should be dark enough that it gives the audience a sense of unease, as each of the characters
relate depressing tales and talk heatedly with one another. When A begins his speech, I want the cyc to
fade into a bright amber that assaults the audience s eyes when it first appears. This symbolizes how
upon first glance, A s speech appears happy and innocent, which the color yellow is associated with,
but that yellow is tainted with something darker and sinister, making it amber. Then, when C mentions
being raped, I want the cyc to fade to a scarlet red, because this I think this marked the transition to the
most violent part of the play. Then when C says, No one can hate me more than myself , I want the
cyc to start transitioning to a medium blue. As the play continues, I want that blue to get continually
darker, symbolizing the characters sinking into despair. When B says Kill me , I want the cyc and all
of the lights to fade away, implying that the characters have passed away. Then for the last few lines of
the play, I want just the cyc to light up bright white, so you can only see the actors silhouettes. I want
the audience

Edwin Hardin Sutherland s Theory Of Differential...
Edwin Hardin Sutherland, an American criminologist, developed the theory of differential association
in 1947. He created this theory to attempt to explain why crime was determined by various factors
such as age, race, broken homes, urban or rural areas, mental disorder, and social class (Sutherland
136). His findings led him to believe that these factors affect crime because they can increase or
decrease the probability that persons will associate with others who present definitions favorable to
crime.
Key components of differential association theory could be described in nine important propositions:
1) criminal behavior is learned, 2) criminal behavior is learned through interaction, 3) the major part
of learning criminal behavior occurs within intimate personal groups, 4) criminals learn the definitions
favorable to crime from these others and the techniques of committing crime, 5) the classification of
law as unfavorable or favorable will determine the particular direction of the motives and drives, 6) a
person becomes delinquent because an excess of definitions favorable to the law violation rather than
definitions unfavorable to the violation of the law, 7) differential associations may vary in frequency,
duration, priority, and intensity, 8), all of the mechanisms that would be involved with any other type
of learning are available in the process of learning criminal behavior by criminal and anti criminal
patterns, and 9) criminal behavior is not explained by general

Waking Up Teens Analysis
In these two texts, both authors informed their readers on how and why technology impacted society
as well as introduced claims that these impacts were a main factors in human evolution. Schools
should provide blue light for students because, according to the passages, it improves learning by
making them more alert, allowing them to rest well enough to be prepared for school and giving them
and help alleviate sleeping disorders among the students.
If students were to be more awake in the morning, they would have no problem retaining the
information that they learn throughout the day. In Selection 2, Waking Up Teens, when at the
beginning of the passage, it says, Teenagers morning drowsiness is often caused by out of tune body

being awake, then getting a good dose of it can help restore the sleep cycle... (Wake Up Teens,

Essentially, teens will be able to wake up fully rested if they were to have blue light at the right time

higher attendance rate. This, along with sleeping disorders could be managed if schools would just

Enzyme And Substrate Concentration Lab Report

The Effects of Enzyme and Substrate Concentrations in Various Factors
Abstract:
The entirety of this performed lab experiment is to test the effects of enzyme and substrate
concentrations in varying factors such as reaction rate, temperature, and the inhibitor hydroxlamine.
What was first tested was the effect of substrate and enzyme concentration on reaction rate in which
the effects were tested with three concentrations of both enzyme and substrate (low, medium, and
high). After properly setting up the spectrophotometer in addition to calibration and adding chemicals
into the control, enzyme and substrate, one should mix all three concentrations of low, medium, and ...

Factors include temperature, pH, inhibitors and activators all of which will be tested and observed for
in this lab. The rate of enzyme catalyzed is affected by concentrations of both substrate and enzyme.
Increasing the temperature on a reaction increases its molecular movement. The rate of an enzyme
catalyzed reaction increases with temperatures but only up until the point of optimum temperature the
highest point before the eventual decline. Below the optimum temperature, the hydrogen bonds and
hydrophobic interactions that make the enzyme its given shape can no longer be supported by its
flexibility. High temperatures cause enzymes to denature to lose its three dimensional figure. The
denaturation of enzymes plays a huge role in this lab s absorbance derived from the results. Inhibitors
also play a vital role in what affects enzyme functions done in Lab Weeks 4 and 5. When a substrate
that binds to an enzyme and the activity decreases, it is called an inhibitor. In our lab, our enzyme
inhibitor is hydroxylamine. Based on the results in a brief statement, the absorbance rate decreases.
These results will be delved into deeper analysis further in the

My Own Device ( Byod ) And Risks Associated With It
Abstract
This paper is about Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and risks associated with it. The conditions for
risks to occur, the managerial and technical solutions to such risks are discussed.
Introduction
BYOD or Bring Your Own Device refers to the policy of permitting employees to bring personally
owned mobile devices (laptops, tablets, and smart phones) to their workplace, and to use those devices
to access privileged company information and applications (Bradley December 20, 2011). This
concept is a growing trend for the information technology and many more business sectors.
Businesses that appreciate Bringing Your Own Devices have some advantages over the others. For
instance, the costs tend to shift towards the BYOD user instead of ... Show more content on

However there are an equal amount of risks involved with this. Security has been the primary concern.
A superior authority monitoring the employees all the time is impossible. The manager has no right to
access the devices of the workers as they are private. Also this might reduce productivity if the
employees lose focus on work and use their devices for entertainment or personal benefits. Using and
misusing data, network or resources in the workplace for personal gain. In some cases, data can be
stolen from the organization using such devices causing loss or theft of data. Hence there is lack if
control and potential malware threats (Pillay, Diaki et al. 2013).
Trend Drivers for BYOD BYOD is gaining high popularity and growth which is evident from the
Ovum s research paper published in 2012. Respondents in the emerging, high growth markets
(including Brazil, Russia, India, UAE, and Malaysia) demonstrate a much higher propensity to use
their own device at work. Almost 75% of users in these countries did so, compared to 44% in the more
mature developed markets. The research revealed that 79% of employees in high growth markets
believe that constant connectivity with work applications enables them to their job better, versus
53.5% in mature markets. There is a distinct lack of BYOD management everywhere. On average only
20.1% of employees who use personal devices have also signed a policy governing that behaviour.
USA and India are nearer to 50%. The

Netflix Persuasive Analysis
We all hate when a video on YouTube ends in a cliffhanger and you just have to watch the next video.
And then the one really long ad comes up and you almost fall asleep watching it, sometimes that skip
ad button isn t there and you have to watch the whole thing. Or, there is a skip ad button but you
accidentally click the ad instead and then it brings you to the website of the ad. At that point you get
so frustrated that you say to yourself ugh Netflix would never do this to me!!! Thats right! Netflix
doesn t have ads that you are forced to watch for at least 5 seconds while your trying to to watch your
show, not watch about how amazing the new Samsung S8 is. Also If you watch 2 movies a month,
Youtube would charge you 6 8 dollars, With Netflix, you can pay just $8 a month to watch unlimited
movies AND T.V. If you are looking to watch T.V. and Movies, Netflix is your company because you
only have to pay 8 dollars every month to get unlimited movies and t.v. vs. Youtube where you can
only watch 2 movies for $8. Also if you don t start watching that movie within 30 days, you have to
pay again, and if you don t finish watching the movie within 24 hours, you also have to pay again, If
you are looking to save money, I would watch Netflix instead of Youtube because you get a variety of
movies for the same price and you also can take your time watching the movie so you can take even a
year to watch a movie, but you won t have to follow any crazy rules. Youtube is

Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope. His full length portrait is carved into the Stone of

powerful words were derived from the side of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial that was
created to represent his soul rousing I Have A Dream speech. The memorialization of MLK and this
event s significance and impact on history was exquisitely executed, in my opinion. If you had to take

Another example of a muddled purpose lies within The Maine Lobsterman. Maine is known for its
fishermen, so H. Elroy Johnson, a resident of Maine who trapped lobsters for a living, was chosen to
be memorialized. As his statue was moved from place to place its purpose was lost because he truly
represented his home state of Maine only. When developing a monument, its purpose is at the root of
its success and should be timeless and/or clear to those who will view it in the general public.
Secondly, placement is a key factor in creating a monument of someone or an event. As described in
Source E, placement could offend the surrounding population. In this source, the Holocaust Museum
is located in The Mall in Washington, DC and it offended both Jewish and non Jewish communities.
This is primarily due to the fact that a museum dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust would be

To make matters even more confusing, there are those within the Business Analyst community who
have begun to distinguish between business analysts who focus on defining software requirements and
those business analysts who are focused on improving business processes. SAP, for example, has set
up a website1 for Business Process eXperts (BPXs), a group of analysts with more extensive business
process capabilities.
This vagueness between BA and BPM roles creates confusion in practice and academia, which
impacts on role designs, skills assessment, human resource development, recruitment and professional
development. The impact of such was made clear at a Leonardo Process Days 2010 conference panel
where BA and BPM role differentiation was reviewed. An outcome of this discussion was a consensus
that i) Practitioners struggle to recognise and articulate the skills required (BA, BPM or both?) for
various organisational initiatives and how to locate appropriate talent to fill these roles ii)
Academics fail to position BA and BPM as separate professions and often bundle them as the same in
their course descriptions and marketing iii) Students and prospective candidates for employment
vacancies therefore remain confused about the specific skill sets required of a BPM professional a nd/
or a Business Analyst.
Both the BA and BPM professions have made attempts

Disinhibition In The Case Of David Michael Kalac
On November 4, 2014, a series of graphic images were posted to the blogging site 4chan. These
photographs were not sexual in nature, nor did they contain drug paraphernalia. They were of a
recently murdered woman. The woman bore marks of a struggle on her neck. The accompanying
caption read, Turns out it s way harder to strangle someone to death than it looks in the movies...I just
wanted to share the pics before they find me (Johnson Helsel, 2014). Later that week, 33 year old

What did he have to gain? He posted anonymously to the blogging site 4chan. Clearly his aim was not
to use the pictures as a trophy, but as something more. At times, personal disclosure alleviates stress
and perhaps guilt. Radcliffe et. al. examined the effect of written disclosure on the easing of stress.
Their study indicated written disclosure, when it is presented to an audience, leads to reduced anxiety
and less emotional distress for the author (Radcliffe, Lumley, Kendall, Stevenson, Beltran, 2007). In
this particular study, it was concluded that writers work to share more information about their situation
than they may have in a written disclosure they would have kept private, such as a diary entry. Their
shared writings likely had more sensitive information to explain the situation, and thus led to less
depression, reduced interpersonal sensitivity, and lesser physical symptoms of stress when shared
(Radcliffe, Lumley, Kendall, Stevenson, Beltran, 2007). In Kalac s case, he may have been attempting
to lessen his burden of guilt by disclosing the photographs of what he had done, along with the
caption. His wording, Just wanted to share these pic before they find me, do not offer explanation of
the crime, but registers his guilt and acknowledges that he must eventually answer for his crimes
(Johnson Helsel, 2014). The Radcliffe et. al. study does not mention the impact of written disclosures

The Cove Dolphins
Approximately 20,000 dolphins are killed legally every year and thousands more are sold inhumanely
in Taiji, Japan. The majority of these dolphins are sold to marine parks and aquariums around the
world. Louie Psihoyos and Ric O Barry s eye opening documentary The Cove raises awareness about
the gruesome killings of dolphins in Japan. Ironically Ric O Barry feels that he initiated this problem,
as he was one of the first dolphin trainers/capturers in the 1960 s for the show Flipper. After
witnessing the star, Flipper the Bottlenose Dolphin commit suicide in his arms, he became a marine
activist, which led to the production of this documentary to stop the problem he created. Louie and

The universal image of the dolphin portrays the illusion that dolphins are always happy because they
consistently appear to be smiling. This, however, is nature s greatest deception as it is simply the
shape of their mouth. Throughout the film the juxtaposition of the beauty of nature is harshly
contrasted with the ugliness of the underlying secrets of the industry in Japan and around the world.
The fishing industry is largest in Japan therefore that is where this movie was filmed. The captive
industry has become a lucrative billion dollar worldwide trade, with all money made from the
exploitation, imprisonment and lifelong suffering of these living beings. A live dolphin captured for a
marine mammal park can be valued up to $200,000. The most shocking fact is that this is legal. The
International Whaling Commission outlawed commercial whaling in 1986, but dolphin hunts remain
legal. The film s impact was largely due to the emotional ties between O Barry and dolphins. Although
the filmmakers are extremely biased, his convincing pleads for our help are strategically made at the
most emotional moments. He believes that bottlenose dolphins are being hunted the most The
fishermen are searching for bottlenose dolphins like flipper . Luckily this type of dolphin is not yet

The Use Of Immunotherapy And Genetic Engineering
Organ transplants save thousands of lives each year and are one of the most significant medical
innovations of the past century. Despite that, each year, the number of patients on the waiting list
continues to grow, while the number of donors and transplants remains stagnant. One solution
scientists are investigating to solve this problem is xenotransplantation, a procedure which involves
the transplantation, implantation, or infusion of live cells, tissues, or organs from a non primate source
into a primate recipient (Samdani). This procedure has the potential to benefit thousands by providing
a treatment for a wide range of debilitating diseases and aiding in the transplantation process.
However, like any other surgical procedure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only will xenotransplantation cure diseases, but will also serve as a source of organs and tissues
for transplant. Worldwide, very few human organs are available for transplantation, which results in
ailing patients waiting in vain for a suitable donor. According to UNOS, a non profit that manages the
nation s organ transplant system, more than 118,804 Americans are waiting for an organ transplant as
of January 2017 ( Data ). The increasing imbalance between the supply and demand for organs,
therefore opens the door to xenotransplantation as a solution. Xenografts could serve as an unlimited
supply of cells, tissues, and organs (Kleaner). Furthermore, xenotransplantation can also be used to
buy time while potential transplant patients wait for a suitable donor. Dr. Michler, surgeon in Chief at
Montefiore Medical Center, views xenotransplants as a bridge, buying time of months until [an organ]
is found (Tanne). According to Medscape, a web resource for physicians, most patients perceive
xenotransplantation as an acceptable bridge to transplantation of human organs in life threatening
situations (Samdani). Bridge transplants can ease the current shortage of organs until researchers find
a more permanent solution. It provides patients in dire situations an opportunity to keep holding on to
life. Xenotransplantation has proven advantageous in numerous disciplines of medicine.
Nevertheless, opponents of xenotransplantation such as the Campaign for Reasonable

Literary Criticism In To Kill A Mockingbird And A Separate...
Literary criticism is defined as an informed, written analysis and evaluation of a work of literature. An
example of a literary criticism is intertextual criticism, which is a comparison of two literary works in
terms of symbols, themes, characters, and other criteria. In the fictitious novels To Kill a Mockingbird
and A Separate Peace, Harper Lee and John Knowles use intertextual criticism to allow the reader to
associate the novel with other works and establish connections. Throughout the stories A Separate
Peace and To Kill A Mockingbird, the stories contain several similarities in terms of loss of innocence,
using a tree as a symbol of friendship, and using the scapegoat archetype. Loss of innocence was
addressed in both novels in similar ways. When Phineas exhibited confusion at Gene s studying
habits, Gene felt like his brain exploded, he minded, despised the possibility that I might be head of
the school (Knowles 45). In both works of literature, a sudden realization triggered a loss of innocence
and change in attitude. In this case, when Gene found out that Phineas minded that he could be the top
of their class, he interpreted it as Phineas being envious and wanting him to fail. Gene thinking that
Phineas wants him to fail completely changed the dynamic of their relationship and Gene s naive
thoughts of him and Phineas having a healthy friendship. Comparably, when Brinker confronted
Phineas and Gene about the tree incident, the words shocked Phineas into awareness (Knowles 167).
When Phineas realized the true reason behind his injury, Phineas s character, specifically in the way he
acted towards Gene, was affected. Phineas had spent the majority of the novel in denial of Gene s
crimes and when he found out he came to the realization that not everyone was on his side. With this
comes his loss of naivety and his undying love for life were compromised. Similarly in To Kill A
Mockingbird, when Jem found out the true views of Maycomb it was, Jem s turn to cry. His face was
streaked with angry tears...it ain t fair (Lee 243). Similar to the previous two examples Jem was a
young boy who after hearing the verdict of the trial, comes to the realization of the true working of
Maycomb. After seeing

My Experience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
Never before have I seen a museum as grand as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. From

find something that captures his or her interest. Considering that The Met is the United States largest
art museum, it is easy to get lost within its many corridors and wings. My visit to The Met took place
during the last week of July. Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air,
visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright
summer afternoon. One of the first things that I noticed about The Met was its exterior architecture.
Like many historical buildings and museums, The Met s architecture is highly influenced by European
architecture; in this case, it appears as though the architecture is attempting to emulate the gothic style.
Once inside the daunting faรงade, I was pleasantly surprised to see how richly illuminated the
museum was. What made it even more remarkable was that much of the light appeared to permeate
through skylights that had been built into the building s ceiling. Moreover, I was pleasantly surprised
to see that The Met was considerably less crowded than the American Museum of Natural History,
which I had visited the day before. As I began to wander through the museum, I stumbled upon one of
the best Egyptian collections I have ever seen, with the exception of special travelling

comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing
Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot
of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the birds mixes
with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers can hear his thoughts,
which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue. The actor s mouth does
not move, but the viewers still hear his monologue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of
quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the
same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the
handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt.
There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing
at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be
from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically
associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two
together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the
montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the
burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the
women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic
rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward

The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans
Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as: 0.50 x
0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded is 0.315 or
31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will amount to $1.818
trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million; however, there is an additional
cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5
billion. This implies that rebuilding the levees would amount to a total of $14 + $22. 5 = $36.5 billion.
Thus, with these estimates, the cost of rebuilding New Orleans for the federal government would be:
Cost of building new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, some of the New Orleans residents might decide to rebuild their homes and businesses
themselves instead of waiting for the federal government. While considering rebuilding New Orleans,
a good question to ask is what the government would do with the money that it plans to use to rebuild
the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to do would be to build another city
elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away from the city. Another option would be
to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or business that suffered a loss and allow them to
choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere. Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818
trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3
million people, each resident would get about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new
home and business in a different town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that
spending that huge amount of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This
would imply that the new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild. To avert
this risk, the government will need to assess whether the people want to stay and whether New
Orleans needs a big city (Glaeser, 2005). The estimated relevant expected utility The probability (p) of

Persuasive Essay On Gender Neutral Rooming
As Gloria Steinem once said, A gender equal society would be one where the word gender does not
exist: where everyone can be themselves . Recently, Lehigh has been implemented something new to
better embrace the meaning of gender inclusion. The newest residence hall building, Farrington
Square Apartment, is now available for all gender rooming, which means girls and boys can live
together in one room. Residence Life, Residential Service, and the Pride Center believe, This is an
active effort to align Lehigh s living options with the Principles of Our Equitable Community . Even
though to some extent, it is hard for people, who traditionally lived in dormitories divided into male
and female, to become accustomed to the gender inclusive rooming, this decision is a huge progress
Lehigh made in giving students a sense of belonging and allowing them to experience more diverse
living styles. It stands to reason that gender neutral rooming is definitely beneficial to give students a
sense of inclusion, especially for transgender and gender non conforming students. Ashley Lemmons,
the director of Residence Life, wrote in an email that : Students at Lehigh should feel a sense of
belonging to Lehigh and should also find micro community within Lehigh where they feel at home.
Providing students with all gender housing options enables them to feel Lehigh cares about their
feelings and emotions indeed. It is a well established fact that if you feel unsure about yourself to be a

Vertical Analysis
The vertical analysis involves exploration of the balance sheet statement and shows each component
as a percentage of the total assets. The vertical analysis of the income statement explores the
proportion of the income statement variables to the total sales. The analysis helps show the financial
performance of a business with time.

  • 2. The Yellow Wallpaper, By William Faulkner In a struggle to retain what they believe is tangible, two very different, yet so analogous women are introduced in the diverse domains produced by two authors. The first, Charlotte Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, where the narrator is a woman from an upper middle class upbringing who s taken to a house by her husband for their summer vacation where she begins to feel confined and the later, William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, where Emily is the daughter of an influential man who does become confined to her house after her father passes away. Although their stories are written by two very different people, the women share an eerie resemblance as they begin to fall into an insanity driven by fixation. To explore and understand these connections, one must look into themes and symbolisms to further magnify the foundation of their stories. The initial similarity between both women is their state of being alone in love. After all, the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper finds no comfort in her husband, although she attempts to convince herself that he loves her, she also finds herself wishing him away stating I am glad my case is not serious! as it would lead John to stay all night with her confining her even more that she already feels that she is (958). Alternately, the reason Emily from A Rose for Emily is left alone in her house is due to the fact that her sweetheart had abandoned her after her father had died, which contributed to her state of isolation (715). • 3. Childhood Obesity Is Becoming A Major Public Health Crisis... Introduction Childhood obesity is becoming a major public health crisis in both children and adults. The American Heritage dictionary simply defines obesity as a condition of increased body weight that is due to excessive build up of fat in the body. The CDC (Center for Disease Control), use the BMI (Basal Metabolic Index) and CDC growth charts to determine obesity and overweight in adolescents and children. The BMI for age percentile is determined by plotting the BMI value. Using this chart, obesity is defined as a BMI value that is at or above the 95th percentile for children who are of the same sex and age. Overweight is described as a BMI value at or above the 85th percentile but lower than the 95th percentile. Between the year 2003 and 2006, a National Health and Nutrition study indicated that at least 31.9 percent of both children and adolescents were overweight, and 16.3 percent were obese (Lossing, 2010). The number of obesity has increased significantly over the years causing it to be designated as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1998(Jadavji 2006). Cases of childhood obesity are highest in developed countries. However, there is a steady increase in its prevalence in developing countries also. Interestingly, there are proportionately more overweight girls than boys, especially among adolescents. Childhood obesity has significant consequences on both the psychological and physical health of a child. These consequences include; abnormal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the glass as this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around the edges because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the telescope so this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when white light goes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than red, the violet is brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this is called chromatic aberration. Some advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified through an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are different depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by refracting light rays that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface. When it hits the boundary the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or plastic. Since the light rays are passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they travel slow in, it will bend towards the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is formed in a refracting telescope because the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the light travels through the lense because the surface is transparent the light travels through the lense and meets a focal point on the other side to create an image that is real, magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted because the image is formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like a mirror. For example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image he will see is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the image to be inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the distance of image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm in front with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, ⅛=1/12+1/di, ⅛ 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this equation allows us to find the distance of ... The company is part of the solar industry and went from a one man business into one of the industry leaders in manufacturing flat plate solar thermal collectors for water heating. In 2003, Kioto became GREENoneTEC s sister company by manufacturing photovoltaics modules. The plan was to exploit all opportunities of the market. GREENoneTEC vision is that the sun is the most sustainable resource and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we can point out another main challenge for GREENoneTEC that is the rise of raw material costs which have extremely increased since 1995 (the price of copper had increased by more than 150 percent in 16 years for example). Thus our company has to deal with this increase by looking for opportunities to reduce the costs of production. It can play on economic scale, searching new suppliers less expensive or even changing the conception of its products with different raw materials. We can notice that GREENoneTEC is facing challenges related to the Asian competition, to the search of new customers and to the lowering of its costs of production. The company needs to confront these challenges to stand out from the other companies on the solar market and to ensure its permanence. Solar industry The solar industry is divided in three main markets: the European solar thermal market, the Chinese market and the market in other world regions. The industry is segmented in two main types of solar thermal collectors, which are evacuated tube collectors (80 per cent on average of the worldwide newly installed capacity in 2010) and flat plate collectors (20 per cent on average). This industry is characteristic of technology intensive industries with their central innovation: solar thermal water heating which radically reduces costs. I have entered into the field of education with full knowledge that it can be very challenging but it is my venture to make it gratifying for both my students and myself. A crucial point of The Woodcarver is the ability to focus. Once the woodcarver was finished with his work, all credits were taken from him and given to higher powers. Similarly, once I am able to bring the task at hand to the central point of my concentration, then I am bond to astonish many, including myself. I particularly gain wisdom from the fact that The woodcarver guarded his spirit and did not expend it on trifles that were not to the point. Burning up energy on issues that have nothing to do with the mission at hand is detrimental to success. Like The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had to lose self and I went on my knees and pray to God to give me guidance and direction. Most of my days were spent on seeking and finding interesting ways or strategies to reach him. I totally forgot about my friends or even the principal s criticism, just like the woodcarver and put all my focus on John, the learner. I started from basic and built on what he already knew. We used a lot of repetition and made sure we stayed on task. We worked hard and he graduated reading on a third grade level. When he first came to me, If I were able to have one solitary thought, which was John, and not my peers or elevating myself, time would not have been wasted and maybe he could have excel to reading at least on a fourth grade level. In order to truly liberate the learner in him, it was necessary to go beyond blame, success and my ego. When John came to me, I saw him as hopeless because of how he carried and conducted himself. I saw his deficiencies and ignore his potentialities. Mars was born as Pete Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8, 1985. While he was still a child, he attained Bruno as a nickname. He grew up in a family that was very melodious, his dad Pete was a Latin percussionist and his mom on the other hand was a singer. Mars had the opportunity to be in performances with his family such as a Las Vegas style Revue that they performed with Motown hits and celebrity impersonations. When he was four years old he decided to join the family musical act and became an Elvis impersonator, and as he got older he started to impersonate Michael Jackson. • 9. Impact Of Trade Policies On Trade Patterns Between Usa And... The impact of trade policies on the trade patterns between USA and China and the analysis of China s manufacturing sector of IT products vis a vis consumption sector of the US. Abstract Introduction The following paper coherently illustrates the trade patterns of USA and China and describes the various trade policies developed over the past years that have impacted the respective economies of both countries alongside the effect of the same on the bilateral trade relations between the two. Based upon the previous statistics, US China trade is considerably one of the largest trading partners in today s economies. Both countries trade relations entail exchange of investment, services as well as goods varying from agricultural products to non agricultural products. Currently, China is the second largest trading partner, third largest export market and the biggest source of imports for the United States. The U.S. government s debt purchased by China provides US the benefits of low interest rates (Morrison, 2015). While for few this economic relationship is considered to have a positive effect as it helps to fund the U.S. economy, for others it is an attributable concern that China may gain more power over the U.S (Loc.gov, 2016). Some major trade policies have negatively impacted the trade patterns of the two countries in a way that in spite of their growing ties, the bilateral trade relationship is often laden with complexities. This book is filled with many different lessons we all could learn, but it just depends on how you comprehend it. The first lesson I believe people can learn is that even if you get hurt by someone doesn t mean you should want them to suffer. I think this lesson is important because to many people today always wants karma to happen to others, once they have done something to them. Another lesson I think people can learn from this book is never change your feelings about yourself and who you are. These lessons are just a couple of the lessons found in The True American. • 11. The Tell Tale Heart Literary Analysis Developing Horror Horror is fiction that scares the audience or gives an eerie mood. Each short story develops horror is its own way. The Tell Tale Heart is about how an old man is murdered because of his evil vulture eye. A Rose for Emily is about how an old woman poisoned her lover to keep him from leaving. The Lottery is about how this town has a drawing to see who will be the sacrifice to the crops. Horror is developed in The Tell Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, and The Lottery with many elements of horror. First, horror is developed in The Tell Tale Heart by the insanity of the narrator. The narrator believes he is a sane person, but contradicted himself when he kills the old man. This creates a complex in the character s mind. When the police shows because the neighbors heard a yell, he begins to hear the old man s heartbeat, but his guilt consumes him and he confesses to murdering the old man and putting his body underneath the floorboards. Also, in the beginning of the story, the narrator describes why he wants to kill the old man. It was impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night (Para. 2). His insane idea of killing the old man because of his vulture eye pops into his thoughts without a preconceived notion of doing so. The murder is premeditated and thought out as each night he cracks the door open and glares the lantern directly at the vulture eye. The insanity of the narrator develops The Tell Tale Heart into horror. Next, horror is developed in A Rose for Emily by the southern gothic elements. Emily s psychological issues depict a twisted turn in the story. When Emily keeps her father s body in her house for three days after he died, it sets up for a future turn of events. After she dies, the town women go to her house, but when they get to her house and go inside; they discover her lover petrified in the upstairs room. The man himself lay in the bed. For a long while we just stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin (Para. 58). Homer, her lover and husband to be, was dead in the bed. Emily poisoned him because she did not want him to leave again, so she could keep him forever. She is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These men were definitely the most essential to the entire expedition, and took part in almost every single task executed. Shackleton was the most essential part to the whole expedition. Crean was also in charge of one of the dog teams, and he later took care of the pups, that one of his dogs produced rather early in the expedition. There were six dog teams for the overland journey to be made once Endurance got under way again. The drivers were: James McIlory and Alexander Macklin, the two doctors; Frank Hurley, the photographer; Frank Wild, Shackleton s loyal second in command; Tom Crean, the Antarctic veteran; and George Marston, the expedition artist. • 14. Sarah Kane Crave Analyse My over arching idea for my production of Crave is that I want to give the play some context while also maintaining the theme that these characters could represent anyone. The reason I want to give the play some background is because on my first read of the play, before I read the Saunders article in which Sarah Kane talks about the relationships between C and A, and B and M, a lot of the themes of the play were lost on me because I was so focused on trying to figure out what was going on. I know Sarah Kane didn t want the characters to get stuck in specific categories, but by establishing relationships between the characters I think the audience will be able to focus more on what the characters are saying and less on trying to discern what ... The tone and color of the fill lights changes slightly throughout the show, following the color changes of the cyclorama. The cyc is my central design element for the show. When I read Crave, it seemed to me that the play was divided into different emotional sections, and I want to use the cyc to reflect that. When the lights come up after the characters enter, I want the cyc to be a medium dark purple, which I think helps give the feeling that the play is taking place in the city, which is what I gathered from the dialogue. The purple should be dark enough that it gives the audience a sense of unease, as each of the characters relate depressing tales and talk heatedly with one another. When A begins his speech, I want the cyc to fade into a bright amber that assaults the audience s eyes when it first appears. This symbolizes how upon first glance, A s speech appears happy and innocent, which the color yellow is associated with, but that yellow is tainted with something darker and sinister, making it amber. Then, when C mentions being raped, I want the cyc to fade to a scarlet red, because this I think this marked the transition to the most violent part of the play. Then when C says, No one can hate me more than myself , I want the cyc to start transitioning to a medium blue. As the play continues, I want that blue to get continually darker, symbolizing the characters sinking into despair. When B says Kill me , I want the cyc and all of the lights to fade away, implying that the characters have passed away. Then for the last few lines of the play, I want just the cyc to light up bright white, so you can only see the actors silhouettes. I want the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Edwin Hardin Sutherland s Theory Of Differential... Edwin Hardin Sutherland, an American criminologist, developed the theory of differential association in 1947. He created this theory to attempt to explain why crime was determined by various factors such as age, race, broken homes, urban or rural areas, mental disorder, and social class (Sutherland 136). His findings led him to believe that these factors affect crime because they can increase or decrease the probability that persons will associate with others who present definitions favorable to crime. Key components of differential association theory could be described in nine important propositions: 1) criminal behavior is learned, 2) criminal behavior is learned through interaction, 3) the major part of learning criminal behavior occurs within intimate personal groups, 4) criminals learn the definitions favorable to crime from these others and the techniques of committing crime, 5) the classification of law as unfavorable or favorable will determine the particular direction of the motives and drives, 6) a person becomes delinquent because an excess of definitions favorable to the law violation rather than definitions unfavorable to the violation of the law, 7) differential associations may vary in frequency, duration, priority, and intensity, 8), all of the mechanisms that would be involved with any other type of learning are available in the process of learning criminal behavior by criminal and anti criminal patterns, and 9) criminal behavior is not explained by general ... At times, personal disclosure alleviates stress and perhaps guilt. Radcliffe et. al. examined the effect of written disclosure on the easing of stress. Their study indicated written disclosure, when it is presented to an audience, leads to reduced anxiety and less emotional distress for the author (Radcliffe, Lumley, Kendall, Stevenson, Beltran, 2007). In this particular study, it was concluded that writers work to share more information about their situation than they may have in a written disclosure they would have kept private, such as a diary entry. Their shared writings likely had more sensitive information to explain the situation, and thus led to less depression, reduced interpersonal sensitivity, and lesser physical symptoms of stress when shared (Radcliffe, Lumley, Kendall, Stevenson, Beltran, 2007). In Kalac s case, he may have been attempting to lessen his burden of guilt by disclosing the photographs of what he had done, along with the caption. His wording, Just wanted to share these pic before they find me, do not offer explanation of the crime, but registers his guilt and acknowledges that he must eventually answer for his crimes (Johnson Helsel, 2014). The majority of these dolphins are sold to marine parks and aquariums around the world. Louie Psihoyos and Ric O Barry s eye opening documentary The Cove raises awareness about the gruesome killings of dolphins in Japan. Ironically Ric O Barry feels that he initiated this problem, as he was one of the first dolphin trainers/capturers in the 1960 s for the show Flipper. The universal image of the dolphin portrays the illusion that dolphins are always happy because they consistently appear to be smiling. This, however, is nature s greatest deception as it is simply the shape of their mouth. Throughout the film the juxtaposition of the beauty of nature is harshly contrasted with the ugliness of the underlying secrets of the industry in Japan and around the world. The fishing industry is largest in Japan therefore that is where this movie was filmed. The captive industry has become a lucrative billion dollar worldwide trade, with all money made from the exploitation, imprisonment and lifelong suffering of these living beings. A live dolphin captured for a marine mammal park can be valued up to $200,000. The most shocking fact is that this is legal. The International Whaling Commission outlawed commercial whaling in 1986, but dolphin hunts remain legal. The film s impact was largely due to the emotional ties between O Barry and dolphins. Despite that, each year, the number of patients on the waiting list continues to grow, while the number of donors and transplants remains stagnant. One solution scientists are investigating to solve this problem is xenotransplantation, a procedure which involves the transplantation, implantation, or infusion of live cells, tissues, or organs from a non primate source into a primate recipient (Samdani). Worldwide, very few human organs are available for transplantation, which results in ailing patients waiting in vain for a suitable donor. According to UNOS, a non profit that manages the nation s organ transplant system, more than 118,804 Americans are waiting for an organ transplant as of January 2017 ( Data ). The increasing imbalance between the supply and demand for organs, therefore opens the door to xenotransplantation as a solution. Xenografts could serve as an unlimited supply of cells, tissues, and organs (Kleaner). Furthermore, xenotransplantation can also be used to buy time while potential transplant patients wait for a suitable donor. • 30. Literary Criticism In To Kill A Mockingbird And A Separate... Literary criticism is defined as an informed, written analysis and evaluation of a work of literature. An example of a literary criticism is intertextual criticism, which is a comparison of two literary works in terms of symbols, themes, characters, and other criteria. In the fictitious novels To Kill a Mockingbird and A Separate Peace, Harper Lee and John Knowles use intertextual criticism to allow the reader to associate the novel with other works and establish connections. Throughout the stories A Separate Peace and To Kill A Mockingbird, the stories contain several similarities in terms of loss of innocence, using a tree as a symbol of friendship, and using the scapegoat archetype. Loss of innocence was addressed in both novels in similar ways. When Phineas exhibited confusion at Gene s studying habits, Gene felt like his brain exploded, he minded, despised the possibility that I might be head of the school (Knowles 45). In both works of literature, a sudden realization triggered a loss of innocence and change in attitude. In this case, when Gene found out that Phineas minded that he could be the top of their class, he interpreted it as Phineas being envious and wanting him to fail. Gene thinking that Phineas wants him to fail completely changed the dynamic of their relationship and Gene s naive thoughts of him and Phineas having a healthy friendship. Comparably, when Brinker confronted Phineas and Gene about the tree incident, the words shocked Phineas into awareness (Knowles 167). When Phineas realized the true reason behind his injury, Phineas s character, specifically in the way he acted towards Gene, was affected. Phineas had spent the majority of the novel in denial of Gene s crimes and when he found out he came to the realization that not everyone was on his side. With this comes his loss of naivety and his undying love for life were compromised. Similarly in To Kill A Mockingbird, when Jem found out the true views of Maycomb it was, Jem s turn to cry. His face was streaked with angry tears...it ain t fair (Lee 243). Similar to the previous two examples Jem was a young boy who after hearing the verdict of the trial, comes to the realization of the true working of Maycomb. After seeing ... Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air, visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright summer afternoon. One of the first things that I noticed about The Met was its exterior architecture. Like many historical buildings and museums, The Met s architecture is highly influenced by European architecture; in this case, it appears as though the architecture is attempting to emulate the gothic style. Once inside the daunting faรงade, I was pleasantly surprised to see how richly illuminated the museum was. What made it even more remarkable was that much of the light appeared to permeate through skylights that had been built into the building s ceiling. The scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel attempts to comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt. There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward ... The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as: 0.50 x 0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded is 0.315 or 31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will amount to $1.818 trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million; however, there is an additional cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5 billion. While considering rebuilding New Orleans, a good question to ask is what the government would do with the money that it plans to use to rebuild the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to do would be to build another city elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away from the city. Another option would be to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or business that suffered a loss and allow them to choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere. Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818 trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3 million people, each resident would get about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new home and business in a different town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that spending that huge amount of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This would imply that the new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild.
