The Origins Of The Chubb Corporation Essay
Corporate Overview
The origins of the Chubb Corporation date back to 1882 when Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son
Percy opened their marine underwriting business in the seaport district of New York City. Having
collected $1,000 from each of 100 prominent merchants to start their venture, they focused initially
on insuring ships and cargoes. The Chubb s were adept at turning risk into success, often by helping
their policyholders prevent disasters before they occurred. By the turn of the century, Chubb had
established strong relationships with the insurance agents and brokers who placed their clients
business with Chubb underwriters. Chubb Son did not value size in itself but regarded it as a
measure of what had been achieved. Upon the Company s 75th anniversary in 1957, Hendon
Chubb who had joined his older brother Percy in the firm in 1895 noted, I think there is perhaps a
tendency in American business to overemphasize mere size, whereas to me it should be a by
product of a job well done.
Mission Statement:
CHUBB s mission statement explains that The Chubb mission is to provide excellent services to its
customers throughout their life. This corporation demonstrates it by offering various numbers of
services in the insurance industry. They do not only focus in one specific area of their customers,
but instead broad their services to any kind of problem that might come through the way of their
customers.

Monster Mash In Frankenstein
The Monster Mash: Is it Possible to Make a Monster?
Can we reanimate life after death? First we need to ask ourselves what life is; Oxford Dictionaries
describe life as the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including
the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death .
Would it be possible to create a new life from dead bodies? This question is answered through
entertainment in both film and literature. The primary source of this is the book and movie,
Frankenstein. Although the book is merely science fiction, there is still some curiosity on the
plausibility of the creation of life. This brings up the question; using the modern technology and
scientific discoveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, this would take more than one day, because we have to wait for the right donors for
each organ and body part, making time a factor in creating the monster.. The issue with this
process is that an organ can only survive for so many hours after being taken out of the body and
functioning through artificial means. This raises an issue for the creation of the Monster as all the
parts need to be healthy prior to the reanimation of the body. The solution: Cryonics. The main
purpose of cryonics is the cryopreservation of humans, pets, and their organs (especially the brain)
so that through future technologies they may be reanimated at a later date. The main process used
by Cryonists is known as vitrification, the process of freezing the water within living tissue to
prevent deterioration. In order to successfully vitrify living tissue, scientists use cryostats,
containment devices that are used to maintain cryostatic temperatures around в€’320В°F or
в€’196В°C using liquid nitrogen (Michaels). Scientists are already beginning to explore the
possibilities of the reanimation of cryogenically frozen subjects with the use of nanotechnology, but
our main purpose is simply to prevent the deterioration of the Monster s organs whilst the
collection process is occurring. After all the parts have been assembled, all that s left to do is thaw
out the frozen organs and put together our

Lighting In Hamlet Essay
Similarly, to other theater designers, lighting designers play an important role in the world of the
play. In order to create the appropriate environment and set the mood for the play, the lighting
designers need to choose carefully the lighting techniques they will use to meet the audience s
expectations plus the overall concept of the production. For these reasons, I will describe the
lightingdesigns that we came up with for the Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Prince of Denmark
First of all, we have our main lighting techniques for the majority of the scenes contributing to the
environment and the overall mood of the play. These are that our world is pretty dim since we are
in space and we do not have too much light coming in, only those from ... Show more content on

Therefore, the colors filling our world are mainly dark blue, purples, and a combination of soft and
bright whites. This would provide the audience a sense of how serious and suspense is everything
that is happening with these characters. The lights are changing quite smoothly throughout the play
since our time is moving slowly due to how tense the environment feels. However, the However,
when the three most important scenes take place the lights are transition abruptly changing from a
mysterious mood to a tragic and dramatic one. The directional lighting is from a single light
source, which is the moon. Therefore, it is produced by a follow spot creating an unpleasant look
of the characters. The area lighting is outside of the stationary spacecraft where most of the scenes
will take place.
Following, I will explain the three specific moments that we chose to light up during the play.
First, we have scene where King Hamlet ghost appears before Hamlet to tell him the secret of his
death. For this moment, the world stays dim, not too much brightness providing a suspenseful
mood and kind of scary environment. The colors choice is a combination

A Lecture On International Sustainable Tourism
Triple Bottom Line
During a lecture in International Sustainable Tourism, we discussed the Triple Bottom Line or
Triple Bottom Line Reporting, which means expanding the traditional reporting framework to take
into account environmental and social performance in addition to financial performance. This
framework is becoming an accepted approach for organizations to demonstrate they have strategies
for Sustainable Growth. It focuses on decision making and reporting, which explicitly considers an
organization s economic, environmental and social performance. Triple Bottom Line focuses on
Stakeholders instead of Shareholders. A Stakeholder is a person, group, or organization who has an
interest or concern in an organization. In this essay, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that there is technically a Social Environmental pillar which relates to Environmental
Justice, Natural Resources Stewardship, and Acting Locally, Thinking Globally; A Environmental
Economic pillar which highlights Energy Efficiency, Subsidies, and Incentives for use of Natural
Resources, and finally an Economic Social pillar which deals with Business Ethics, Fair Trade and
Workers Rights. Right smack dab in the middle of the circle graph is Sustainability. When all three
pillars are in play, Sustainability happens.
Moving on, there are three set goal principals for the Triple Bottom Line and they all three relate
back to the three pillars. The goal for the Social pillar is to have Vibrant Communities, where an
organization has a responsibility to its employees and to the wider community in which it works.
The company understands how its practice affects the workers and strives to promote their best
interests. The goal for the Environmental pillar is a Healthy Environment by reducing the
environmental footprint. Finally, the goal for the Economic pillar is Profit. The Triple Bottom line
recognizes that business sustainability rests on social and environmental settings. The cost of
pollution, worker displaces, and other factors and is included into a profit calculation.
When it comes to the mechanics of the Triple Bottom Line, there is no universal standard to
calculate the Triple Bottom Line, and the

Puerto Rican Hip Hop Culture
Puerto Ricans are an important piece in hip hop culture and in its evolution since 1970. The
contribution of Puerto Ricans to hip hop have been ignored many times and when they are being
noticed it has been misinterpreted as a defection from Puerto Rican culture and identity into the
African American camp. For example, making a version of a song and adding it Spanish or
Spanglish words. Puerto Ricans stories are marginalized because similarities between Puerto Ricans
and Africa American are not properly understood. Hip hop history is formed by cultural parallels,
adaptations, connections and interactions between Africa Americans and Caribbean people
including Puerto Ricans. Hip hop is a pattern woven out of some common threads. For example,

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over
a hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the
amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated
debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man
named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a
mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for
drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then
what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride),
which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very
small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases
than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while
leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job
at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an
engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon
Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he
committed this daring act, he was called to court

Host Stereotypes
It is well known that is normal for a host society to create stereotypes in regards to new non
native groups. To be more accurate, stereotypes occur because diverse groups possess their own
primary characteristics that are different from the host group s features. Karel D.Bicha presented
two types of possible stereotypes such as negative and positive. It all depends how the diverse
group acts when introduced to the host society. If diverse group adapts to the mores and ethics of
the host society within fast time, stereotypes wouldn t exist. Respectively, if diverse group starts
pushing its own characteristics without accepting the host s way of doing things, then there might
be created a negative stereotype. From one side stereotypes provide... Show more content on

Both of these groups held high social statuses. Jews and Italians were both known to contribute
to the introduction of alcohol. Jews used wine for their religious practices; however, Italians
used wine for their culinary processes. Jewish were known to own businesses and play a major
role in a commercial agricultural industry same as Italians. Crime rate indicator is a major factor
that shows the difference in diverse cultural groups. Slavic group was known to have very low
criminal rate. Mostly drunk bar fights and minor theft. Jews were the group with almost no
criminal record; thus, if something ever happened police knew it wasn t anything serious.
However, Italians had talent in creating criminals. They held the highest criminal rate in American
society. Boarding was another factor that distinguished several diverse groups. Slavs were labeled
as cheap men (hunky labor); thus, they were boarding with non family members as well. They
were trying to economize. This further showed a negative result on Slavic groups by lowering the
tone of family life. Some Slavic male tenants (except Czechs) contacted owners to provide them full
boarding which included wife of the tenant besides the house. Jewish and Italians preferred family

The Evolution of Religion
INTRODUCTION In The Wizard of Oz (1939), Dorothy and her friends journey to the Emerald
City in seek of Oz the great and powerful wizard. Upon finally reaching him, Dorothy s dog opens
a curtain to reveal that the Wizard is merely an ordinary man speaking into a microphone while
using various knobs and levers to create a smoke and mirrors effect. In many ways this story is
similar to the creation and interpretation of religionby individuals within society. In the following
pages I will discuss this metaphor, as well as Rudolf Otto and his theories on the creation of
religion, Peter L. Berger s theory of the sacred canopy, and finally the intermingling of these two
theories in the evolution of religion.
RUDOLF OTTO AND RELIGIOUS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the first of the three main aspects of Berger s Sacred Canopy. Externalization, Berger says,
is the ongoing outpouring of human being into the world, both in the physical and the mental
activity of men, (4). Every time an individual externalizes himself upon the environment, it changes,
thus creating a new set of choices to be made.
This imposition of our decisions then leads to objectivation the second aspect of the sacred
canopy. According to Berger, the humanly produced world becomes something out there. It
consists of objects, both material and non material that are capable of resisting the desires of
their producer. Once produced, this world cannot simply be wished away, (9). In other words,
objectivation occurs when the products of what we create impose themselves back upon us and
take on a life of their own. Gender roles, for example, are objectivations and are different in
varying societies. Berger explains that society assigns to the individual not only a set of roles but
a designated identity. In other words, the individual is not only expected to perform as husband,
father or uncle, but to be a husband, a father, or an uncle (14). The final aspect of Berger s sacred
canopy is internalization. Internalization is the acceptance of these objective realities that society
imposes upon us. In this step, our objectivations become part of who we are. This can be seen in
various

The End Of The Palestinian Refugee Crisis
The Arab argument is that the Jews purposefully expelled the native Palestinians from Palestine to
make room for a Jewish state. They claim that the Palestinian Arab population was violently
removed from their homes in Palestine by the Israeli army and forced to flee to neighboring Arab
countries. However, historical fact points in the other direction. The start of the Palestinian refugee
crisis was rooted in the divisions within the Arab population and its leadership. In Palestine, there
were several dozen elite families, the Ayan, who controlled areas of Palestine. These families ruled
on a strictly local scale and did not communicate with each other, creating what Benny Morris
described as a highly regional, oligarchic structure. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This emotional detachment from the land was a major factor in the ease in which the
Palestinians fled their homes for neighboring countries. This dysfunctional society and its
pronounced lack of leadership prompted many Arabs to flee right after the Partition Plan was
adopted by the United nations, before the war. In 1947, Arab morale was low in Palestine. There
was a constant fear of Jewish reprisals for Arab terrorist attacks and the Palestinians did not have
faith in their leaders ability and even willingness to protect them. The Arabs feared being caught
in the war and they feared the prospect of living under Jewish rule. Wealthy Arab families were
the in the vanguard of the Arab flight with Haganah reports of groups of fleeing Arabs on
November 30, 1947, the day immediately following the ratification of the Partition Plan. A few
days later, Arabs in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Tel Aviv and other towns and villages were evacuating their
homes. On December 9, 1947, the Haganah intelligence service reported that wealthy families
were leaving the [coastal] cities heading inland. Rich people are emigrating to Syria, Lebanon,
and even Cyprus. The number of Arabs fleeing swelled so rapidly that on January 11, 1948, Elias
Sasson, who was the director of the Arab Division of the Jewish Agency s Political Department,
wrote to King Abdullah of Transjordan:

Immigrants In Canada
Canada is a country that is known as a mosaic of people and cultures, meaning; it opens it arms to
immigrant families and gives them the freedom to express their own cultural values, ideas, beliefs
and customs. It is this system that welcomes thousands and thousands of immigrants a year with
open arms and the idea of a better life. This idea however, is sometimes not always as easy as it is
thought to be. Though Canadais an amazing country for immigrants to start a new life and get
better education, health care, and job opportunities, immigrant families are met with many
challenges before they are able to become accustom to their new life. It is important to understand
the true difficulty of the Immigrant Experience and the impact it has on families including adults
as well as children. If it is easier to understand the difficulties immigrant families go through in
search of a better life in Canada there can be more resources made to help them. It is important to
take into consideration each individual difficulty that is faced and properly research each factor in
order to have a better understanding on how to make the complete economic and societal
integration of immigrants happen faster. There is a number of categories that relate to the
integration of immigrants into society and a number of steps they must take to be a part of
Canadian society. In order to understand these steps they have to be thoroughly researched.
Language Barriers
When immigrants first step into Canadas borders the most obvious challenge they have to face is
the barrier that is set immediately due to language differences. Canadas official languages include
both English and French these languages arguably are the most difficult languages to learn. In
many ways, for immigrants the first step to both economic and societal immigration is learning
English. Without learning English and proper English literacy skills there is little chance of getting
a well paying job, making connections with people in Canadian society and overall, without English
immigrants are unable to communicate with others around them in society during everyday life.
Language and Literacy training also relate to immigrant s employability. In a study showing

The Witches Dance is a modern dance that has a lot of free movement mostly shown by the
smooth mysterious arm movements. In the context of the play, the dance takes place in a
swamp where Edward Bloom is told his future by a witch. First, the dance steps and movements
were way to slow which made the dance drag on and not look skillful. Throughout the dance, the
main witch simply walked around the stage slowly waving her hands back and forth which is
not impressive to watch because one assumes anyone would be able to perform that movement.
Furthermore, I understand that the scene was supposed to be slow and mysterious, but I think
more skillful maneuvers such as slow controlled spinning could have added to the
impressiveness of this dance piece. However, I think the dancers did do a great job in the
extension of their arms and legs from their body. Each of the witches had long capes connecting
to the end of their arms so the long extension looked really impressive and really dramatized the
mysteriousness of the dance. I think the main witch did the greatest job of extending her arms with
the crystal ball which alluded to the significance of the crystal ball. All in all, the dancers in The
Witches Dance were disappointing because they did not use fast speeds, turns, or any other skilled

Wide Open Spaces Rhetorical Analysis
Transcendentalism is to understand who oneself is by having confidence, free thought, and self
reliance. It is to isolate themselves from society and find themselves through nature, to find what
they want and who they are. They must have self reliance and leave the people they know, and
isolate themselves from society, so they will not be told who they are or who they should be.
Going into nature without the luxuries and only the essentials, confidence is imperative. They
have to be confident in themselves to know they can survive on their own. Free thought is also
crucial because they need to be able to live a simple life and explore new ways to live, while

Living without texting, calling, and social media while trying to find themselves is essential
because a transcendentalist excludes themselves from the outside world and what is going on in
society. Transcendentalists believe that they have enough. They don t need nice items, as long as
it works, then it is good enough for them. Three meals are not necessary. People tell one to eat
three meals a day, but through a transcendentalists view point, one should only eat when they are

ELL Student Observation Sample
Over the summer, I was able to observe an ELL students through the children s Sunday school at
my church. I work Sunday school about once a month and I have had the pleasure of working with
James, who was born in Mexico and moved to Florida when he was 6 months old. He is 8 years
old now and has come so far since he moved here. The church I go to is also a schoolso James was a
student there as well. When I spoke to James he did not seem any different from the other students.
Since he has practically lived in Florida his whole life, he understood and spoke English pretty
well. His parents only spoke Spanish though, so he still spoke Spanish with them.

He understood the meaning of the words he was speaking. My favorite time with him was when
we were reading a Bible story about God s love and he turned to me and said I am so happy God
loves me because I love him too! Even though love is also a feeling, he was able to connect it to
his own life and give it meaning. Syntax on the other hand was a little more challenging for him
because he could not form good complete sentences. There would usually be a small error when
he would talk, like forgetting words like it and the. I tried helping him with this by correcting him
and every time I did he would say Oh yeah, I forgot and he would continue with his story.
James was a talker and if you gave him a subject to talk about he would do anything to keep
talking, even make up everything. He had great discourse because he was really able to talk
about something forever. Now, what he is saying may not be true but he will try to tell you
everything he knows about the subject. He was also very good at writing stories. He told me that
when he goes home, he writes stories on his Mom s Ipad. Since he was great at telling stories he
was pretty good at pragmatics. He could have a normal back and forth conversation. James would

The Causes Of The Persian And Peloponnesian Wars
From 3000 BCE to 1500 CE their has been many events and people who have had an major
impact on Western European civilization. The event I think had the most important affect is The
Persian and Peloponnesian wars. The Persian war begun because the lonians city states owed
money to Persia and the lonians city states were conquered by Cyrus II of Persia. The reasons for
the Peloponnesian war are the democratic reforms of Cleisthenes but Spartaalways denied this and
Athenian control of the Delian League. Both of these wars affected Greek history.
These wars occurred during and after Pericles and lasted until the end of Alexander the Great. It
ended with the defeat of Athens. The Persian wars were fought because Darius I was out to
attack the land of the Greeks. Their were two Persian wars that occurred. The first was the Battle
of Marathon, under control of Darius I was a battle of Persia vs Athens. During the first war the
Athenians used phalanx formation which meant they had long spears to defeat the Persians. The
second war was when Persia was under control of Xerxes I. The Persians invaded them so badly
that Athens was to weak to fight back on their own. They had to request help from other city states.
Athens asked Sparta to be their allies in war and Sparta agreed to help defeat the Persians. The
Battle of Thermopylae was the next when it was the Persians against the Spartans. They fought the
battle in the mountain of Thermopylae. The Spartans distracted Persian troops

Marketing s Development And Success Essay
In contemporary society, due to the seller economic model is transforming to the buyer economic
model gradually in the market which has resulted from social progress as well as technological
development, marketing plays a prominent role in an enterprise s development and success.
According to American MarketingAssociation (AMA):
Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering,
and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large
(AMA 2007, cited in Baines et al. 2011, p. 6).
In order to achieve better performance of marketing, marketing study is indispensable. As
Hackley (2009) indicated, Marketing studies seems to have the ability to appeal in different
guises to different audiences , meanwhile, he also argued that marketing studies is in its most
popular guise which refers to a resolutely one dimensional problem solving discipline . (Hackley,
2009, p.45). From the author s point of view, one dimensional problem solving discipline is a
simple way of pure transactions between the seller and the buyer which is direct and
straightforward. In my own opinion, one dimensional problem solving discipline means a narrow
and simple mode of trades that just focuses on one specific purpose, regardless of any other
significant factors of marketing. For instance, some companies merely meet the customer
satisfaction, or some firms just pay attention to their own profit. All of

Masculinity In Rabbit Run
With his work garnering national attention, Updike travelled to England where he studies at

writing exclusively for the publication while his worked on his other books. At the New Yorker

Carpentered Hen and Other Tame Creatures. However, when his publisher demanded that he make
changes to the ending of his debut novel The Poorhouse Fair, Updike shows the cavalier spirit that
would become the force of his later work and switches publishers. A few later, under his new
publisher, Updike releases his novel Rabbit, Run. In this work, which contains graphic accounts of
sexual misadventures, readers begin to see the hyper masculinity that Updike would become his

The opening pages of chit chat, the reply to Time magazine, the celebrity talk about Lowell,
Macdonald, Goodman, the fierce competitiveness all this tells us from the beginning that this is
Mailer s story (Dickstein 149). By choosing to depict acts in which he took part and from his
point of view Mailer is able to make the validity of his statements implicit he actually saw what
he is writing about. At the same time though, questions of how much Mailer s bias is affecting
the novel are raised. Mailer is able to address these questions of possible bias by making it
exceedingly obvious when his bias is at play. As Hellmann notes, Calling himself the Novelist and
self consciously using the contrivances of novelistic form, Mailer makes us view the facts of his
work as both reliable (in that we are fully shown their source in his firsthand observation) and
doubtful (in that we are constantly reminded that they result merely from such observation) (39).
Instead of trying to hide this bias, Mailer uses it to further strengthen his work. An example of
Mailer s use of bias is in his description of the US Marshals he saw while waiting on the bus which
would take him to prison, he begins with their faces are considerably worse than he had expected
and they had the kind of faces which belong to bad guys in a Western (150). This establishes Mailer

My plan as of right now is to go college and become an auto mechanic. I m not quite sure yet if i

Impact Of The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill During The Gulf...
CASE STUDY
IMPACT OF THE DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO ON THE
LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
INTRODUCTION
The Gulf of Mexico covers an area of 600,000 square miles and is located between Mexico, Cuba
and the United States (Tunell, 2011). Home to 15,419 recorded marine species; the Gulf of
Mexico boasts a dynamic ecosystem, which includes 1511 endemic species. The position of the
gulf between temperate and tropical waters provides one of the reasons for its vast biodiversity
(Campagna et al., 2011).
On April 20, 2010 the British Petroleum Deep Water Horizon (DWH) drilling rig exploded and
subsequently sank in the waters of Gulf of Mexico. The result was the largest leakage of crude in

Primary pollutants detected consisted mostly of hydrocarbons that were emitted into the
atmosphere from evaporated or burned oil on the water surface, and nitrogen oxides, emitted by
both the flaring of the natural gas and from the clean up processes close near the spill site. Once
in the atmosphere, these compounds photochemically reacted to produce secondary pollutants
such as Ozone and peroxacetyl nitrates (PANs) (Middlebrook et al., 2011). Other pollutants were
also detected, such as secondary organic aerosols (SOA), a product of intermediate volatile
organic compounds, and soot particles, black carbon and carbon monoxide from in situ burning of
oil or from the cleanup processes (Gouw et al., 2011).
According to EPA (2016), air pollutants, especially fine particles ( 2.5Ојm), can cause health risks
to respiratory systems of both humans and animals. These pollutants can contribute to the formation
of acid rain, damage vegetation, deplete nutrients in soil, contribute to cloud formation and affect
climate, and reduce visibility. In addition, secondary pollutants can travel large distances from
their point of formation, thus they can be a cause of concern for distant areas. Fortunately, as
stated by Middlebrook et al. (2011), the DWH Oil spill had a limited impact on air quality due to the

A Comparison Between Freud and Erikson Essay
Developmental psychology is an area of research dedicated to the understanding of child
development. Throughout history many theories have been used to attempt to explain the complex
process. Two of those theorists, Freud and Erikson, were instrumental in creating a foundation for
child psychology to build on. From a Freudian perspective, human development is centered on
psychosexual theory. Psychosexual theory indicates that maturation of the sex drives underlies
stages of personality development. Alternatively, Erikson is considered a neo freudian scholar who
developed psychosocial theory. In Erikson models there are eight major conflicts that occur during
the course of an individual s life.

It allows an individual to regulate standards, embrace moral values and decides whether or not the
ego has implemented problem solving strategies that are acceptable (Shaffer et al, 2010; Wedding
Corsini, 2014). Ultimately, Freud believed that sex was the most important instinct influencing
personality and any mental disturbance revolved around sexual conflicts that were suppressed from
childhood. Furthermore, Freud believed that parents permitting too much or too little gratification
of sexual needs led to a fixation on that activity throughout their lifetime (Shaffer et al., 2010). This
fixation can eventually lead to a regression in behaviour. Regression can determine whether or not
the behaviour is psychopathological in nature depending on intensity and changes within their
personality (Kerig Wenar, 2006; Lothane, 2006).
Freud created five stages of psychosexual development that includes the oral, anal, phallic, latency,
and genital phases. The oral stage begins at birth and lasts until approximately age one. Throughout
the first phase, Freud believed that, the sex instinct was centered on the mouth. Often infants derive
pleasure from oral activities such as chewing, sucking, biting, or feeding activities. Moreover, Freud
thought that if a child was weaned off the mother s breast too early their adult personality
characteristics might crave close contact and become an overly dependent spouse

Similarities And Differences Between Percy Jackson And...
Both Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1: The Lightning Thief and the Epic of Gilgamesh
have heroes as their protagonists. Those protagonists, Percy Jackson and Gilgamesh, have
similarities and differences, which can be used to see how humanity s view of the concept of a
hero has changed over the last three thousand and two hundred years. The differences in their
qualifications for heroic qualities, both traditional and modern, highlights how humanity s
viewpoint of what it means to be a hero has changed. Way back when, in ancient Mesopotamia, a

However, in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was never defeated by another person in combat.
The single time Gilgamesh explicitly failed a challenge was when Utnapishtim told him to stay

the same league as Gilgamesh was Enkidu as before Aruru created Enkidu, Gilgamesh had no rival.
Also, Enkidu and Gilgamesh never used their wits, only ever solving their problems through the

Another traditional qualification that Percy Jackson and Gilgamesh share is that they have
both captured the interest of several deities. However, they differ in that deities are generally
either against or neutral to Percy Jackson from the get go while Gilgamesh only later creates his

Finally, Aaron Antonovsky s (1979) concept of sense of coherence, offers insight into why there
are variances in the perception of unmet needs and the experience of stress. Sense of coherence
is a descriptor of one s orientation to life and a predictive tool for health outcomes. It describes
one s degree of confidence to manage life s stressors and feelings of optimism that events will
work out reasonably. These feelings of control and optimism can free one up to look forward to
new and exhilarating opportunities and in essence, toward a more self actualized way of being
and doing (Antonovsky, 1979). He suggested that contextual factors determine whether one has
the protective resources to manage stimuli. The attainment of these protective resources
determines whether stimuli are stressful and resolvable. If one cannot resolve workplace
stressors, or optimistically reorient how they perceive a workplace stressor, they may not be able
to engage in self actualization as a novice nurse. For this study, Maslow s (1943) theory,
supported by the work of Rogers (1959) and Antonovsky (1979), provides a roadmap of factors
that may distract or even disable novice nurses from engaging in self actualization in the

The popularity of these films prolonged through the 1970s and 1980s. Carnage and bloodbaths
were overlooked by the media since they had become conventional (Derry 164), seen in Friday
the 13th (I, II, II, and IV; 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1984) and Halloween (I, II, and III; 1978, 1981,
and 1982) (Derry 164 165). Films in this period are, instead of having just random violence,
punishing those who are seen as deserving of it. The 70s and 80s had to deal with the
consequences of the sexual revolution and a record outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases,
so the films of the age executed teen promiscuity (Derry 165). Women are also a common victim,

The Garlic Rainforest
Garlic mustard was introduced from Europe either accidently or intentionally as a cooking herb
in the United States. Within a short time span, they can spread from small area by overtaking
large forest area. The seeds of the garlic mustard remain in the soil for five or more years. The
plant identification phase is formed by the leaves being alternative, being triangular to heart
shaped, or being scalloped edged and also giving off an odor of garlic when crushed. This odor
can be used for distinguishing between garlic mustard from native plants such as evergreen violets,
piggy back plant and fringecup plants as well. It will also help to distinguish non native plants such
as the silver dollar plant.
Garlic mustard has two growing seasons. The first growing season is in early March and then the
second growing season occurs in April. The second growing season includes plants that have flower
stalks that range from 12 to 48 inches tall. It is also topped with a cluster of white, four petaled

Difference Between Incus And Stape
When you hear a fire engine siren, the sound waves from the truck enters your ear canal and
vibrates your eardrum. Then the vibrations go to the central part of the eardrum connected to a
small bone of the middle ear called the malleus. Then as the malleus vibrates, it transmits sound
waves to the incus and stapes. The incus and stapes are two small bones that are part of the middle
ear. They are also called ossicles. As the stapes move, it pushes the oval window in and out.
This movement is passed to an auditory inner ear that functions to convert sound vibrations into
neural messages. This inner ear is called the cochlea. Then the spiral organ Corti, which is located
in the cochlea, is sent into action every time the oval window

In fact, many people who study the culture of the United States recognize that the United States

stubborn to achieve their goals, no matter what comes in their way. However Crash proves
himself to be penurious thought the book. Logan s kindness is noticeable though his dialogue
when he is with his friend, Arthur. Characterization plays an important role in the reader s
development . Readers of both Crash and Closed for the Season find Crash and Logan tenacious.
To prove that logan is strong willed, in the book it states, After a half hour of steady uphill
climbing made even more fun by cars and trucks racing past me just inches away from my handle

One reason to prove that Logan is pleasant is because in the book it states, Bear tried to charge
through the excited protesters, but they did not make way fast enough. Arthur and I managed
to grab his collar and stop him. This shows that logan is copacetic because he was trying to stop
a ferocious dog from going into a crowd and hurting people. Logan cares about what other people
feel, unlike Crash. Another reason to prove that Logan is polite is because, in the book it states,
Great, I said. That s really great. A little weird, I thought but definitely interesting. This
demoststres that Logan is pleasant because he keeps all of his rude comments to himself. He
does not want other people to feel bad. If it was Crash than he would have said anything he
wanted to say and would not care about about what the other person felt. The last reason to prove
that Logan is peachy is because in the book it states, I had enough to buy one rootbeer. I gave it
to Arthur because he looked more tired than me. This illustrates that logan is well mannered
because he offers a soda to his friend even though he payed for the soda. He is showing a act of
generosity. Overall, it is proven Logan from the book Closed for the Season is cordial because he
shows acts of kindness thought the

Why People Have Joint Pain
Why Many People have Joint Pain and How to Help Ease It As people age they begin to feel that
they are experiencing pain in their joints more so than they did during their youth. There can be
many reasons for this pain. Or can it be just a part of ageing. During our youth we don t pay
much attention to how hard we played, what we eat, or if we took vitamins. Our mothers for the
most part were responsible for what we eat, how much sleep we got, and in general how well we
take care of ourselves. As children our bodies are pretty resilient and other than broken bones,
skinned knees, bumps, and bruises pretty much heal and go away without any need or concern
to see a physician. Years ago mothers made sure that we got the proper amount of sleep, which
for the most part once we got to sleep our bodies took care of how much sleep we got all by its
self, for most children that was anywhere from 8 to 10 hours a night if undisturbed. Most
children got a balanced diet, some even got a daily vitamin or eat foods that were enriched in
vitamins such as cereal and milk. A lot of kids ate in the cafeteria at school. Schools did their
best to make sure that the lunches were well balanced. Children for the most part played outside
for recess which usually involved some sort of running, hopping, skipping, or throwing a ball. And
when they got home after some kind of snack they couldn t wait to get out to ride their bike, or
play some sort of game that normally again

The Call Of Cthulhu
The Call of Cthulhu is a horror story that is able to break through and cause terror. The horror
comes from forcing the reader to witness awful and unexplainable things happen to the characters
in the story, especially without the ability to prevent the misfortunes from happening. It becomes
terror because Lovecraft places the entire story in our reality rather then a fictional setting.
Becuase of this, we are forced to relate the story s events to our physical world. It inflicts a sense
of danger by insinuating that the forces in the story exist around us. Lovecraft is able to
effectively place the imaginary story in our physical world by arming the story in science and
logic, using familiar references and locations, and makes you an unofficial... Show more content on

What Are Fred Moore s Greatest Accomplishments
Fred Moore grew up drawing. He used to submit artwork to the Los angles Junior Times, and
many of his pieces made it into the magazine. Eventually, he made it over to the Disney Studio
where he found himself a job in the animation department. Fred Moore is quite well known for
redesigning Walt Disney s beloved Mickey Mousecharacter. Previously, the character had used a
squash and stretch technique and was all circles and long cylindrical shapes for the arms and
legs. Moore gave Mickey Mouse a much needed tune up and his design of Mickey Mouse is still
used today. Aside from redesigning Mickey Mouse, Moore also worked on over 35 animated
shorts, one of which was nominated for an academy award. In my opinion, one of Moore s
greatest accomplishments was when Disney appointed him as Directing Animator for dwarves in
the very first full length animated feature film to come out of the Disney Studio, Snow White and
the Seven Dwarves. Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy and Grumpy are the names of
the dwarves that Moore gave so much personality to. Their names correlate to their personalities,
and Moore was able to capture the individuality that each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

my house. There is no lack of entertainment and the animation will keep me coming back to it for
many years. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is the type of movie that parents want to share
with their children. Then, when their children grow up, they will share it with their own children.
This movie will never go away and it will never get lost in the shuffle of the millions of animated
works that have been made since. It s original, and it s a classic. Audiences will always come back

When the East India companies were formed, they changed how business was done. These

Canterbury Tales
Essay Test In The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, each character, such as the Pardoner,
Wife of Bath, and the Franklin, epitomizes their spirit and reputation through the tales they tell.
The Pardoner uses his tale as a gimmick to make money, because he is a greedy man. The way
his tale illustrates each sin, every listener can relate to the three brothers and feel their guilt. The
Wife of Bath s Tale expresses her own values in the way the Knight is given a second chance after
raping the young virgin. This greatly undermines her idea of the value of women. Because the
Wife of Bath is so sexual, and lacks respect for her self, the Knight s actions and forgiveness
represent her own attitude on men versus women. Lastly, The... Show more content on

The Wife of Bath s tale also demonstrates how important she thinks physical appearance is. Because,
even after the knights immoral behavior, he is granted with a beautiful, trusting wife in the end. It
is, however, the woman s beauty that delights the knight, not her trustworthy manner. Cast up the
certain, husband. Look at me! / And when indeed the knight had looked to see,/ Lo, she was
young and lovely, rich in charms./ In ecstasy he caught her in his arms,/ His heart went bathing
in a bath of blisses/ And melted in a hundred thousand kisses,/ And she responded in the fullest
measure/ With all that could delight or give him pleasure. (292). The unexpected, and somewhat
undeserved ending for the knight, expressed how forgiving, and fond of men the Wife of Bath
truly is. Her choice of fate for this Knight is what makes this tale so appropriate for the Wife of
Bath. A woman less reliant on the male sex would choose a bleaker fate for such an immoral man.
The Franklin s tale is very appropriate for his character because of its pleasant tone and trusting
values. The Franklin chooses to tell a tale about trust, joy and faithfulness towards ones lover.
Although the poem contains conflict, the ending is positive, and the integrity the wife possesses
shows how the Franklin has strong faith in the human race, as well as

Planning A Cheerleaders Essay
Being a cheerleader comes with a great deal of responsibilities. Planning a pep rally is one of
them. It takes time, even when you don t have any. It is so stressful but well worth it. A pep
rally takes a lot of planning and a lot of patience but not everyone is capable of doing it. Before
planning a pep rally, you need game supplies, music, and cheerleaders. First, when planning a
pep rally, you need to set aside a date and have it approved by a higher authority. Once the date
has been set, you can start advertising to students, staff, and the rest of the community. After all of
that has been broadcasted, picking a theme comes next. This is probably the hardest part of
planning a pep rally. It is so difficult because finding music that is not inappropriate, is
unimaginable. When picking a theme, you also need to keep in mind how to design a t shirt. Then,
it s timeto send out order forms and set a due date for the shirts. And this isn t even the hard part!
After setting a date, picking a theme, and designing a shirt is done, it s time to start creating a
dance! Plus a cheer for the Varsity Cheerleaders. But the dance consists of several eight counts,
stunt sequences, jumps, and a various number of formations that goes along with your appropriate
music and theme. Once that is completed, it s time to teach everyone!... Show more content on

The Global Epidemic Of Elder Abuse Essay
Evidence suggests that one in 10 older adults experiences some form of elder abuse, but only
one in 25 cases is reported to social services agencies (Dong, 2012, p. 2151). Elder mistreatment
can occur in a variety of settings including domestic and assisted living. Elder abuse includes
psychological, physical, and sexual abuse; neglect to include both caregiver and self neglect; and
financial exploitation. With the vast explosion of the aging population in today s society elder
abuse can no longer loom in the shadows.
Literature Review After many years, the global epidemic of elder abuse is beginning to receive the
public attention it desperately needs. Forty years after child abuse and domestic violence first
entered mainstream of the publics eye, elder abuse, which attacks all demographic, geographic,
and economic populations on earth is finally making headway. Studies have shown that elder
abuse is severely underreported with about 10% of all elderly being subjected to some form of
abuse and an estimated less than half of these cases ever get reported (B. J., Holroyd Leduc,
2012). The American dreams includes that we believe in the right to live free of abuse, neglect and
exploitation and violence regardless of age, gender, race and economic standing.
Statement of Problem According to Gibson and Qualls (2012) victims of elder abuse are usually,
white widowed females ages 70 to 89, however anybody can be affected. The first step is

Shear compression failure: This type of failure of a structure is caused due to the crushing of
concrete at compressive zone above the tip of the shear crack. This is basically observed in
structural members with low web reinforcement but sufficient longitudinal reinforcement. Shear
cracks are initiated from the flexure cracks but do not pass through the compressive region.
Shear tension failure: This type of crack tends to propagate along the main bars due to the
secondary flexure shear crack. In this circumstance the longitudinal reinforcement loses the bond
with concrete due to insufficient anchorage or the concrete cover subsequently leading to the failure.

  • 3. The Origins Of The Chubb Corporation Essay Corporate Overview The origins of the Chubb Corporation date back to 1882 when Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son Percy opened their marine underwriting business in the seaport district of New York City. Having collected $1,000 from each of 100 prominent merchants to start their venture, they focused initially on insuring ships and cargoes. The Chubb s were adept at turning risk into success, often by helping their policyholders prevent disasters before they occurred. By the turn of the century, Chubb had established strong relationships with the insurance agents and brokers who placed their clients business with Chubb underwriters. Chubb Son did not value size in itself but regarded it as a measure of what had been achieved. Upon the Company s 75th anniversary in 1957, Hendon Chubb who had joined his older brother Percy in the firm in 1895 noted, I think there is perhaps a tendency in American business to overemphasize mere size, whereas to me it should be a by product of a job well done. Mission Statement: CHUBB s mission statement explains that The Chubb mission is to provide excellent services to its customers throughout their life. This corporation demonstrates it by offering various numbers of services in the insurance industry. They do not only focus in one specific area of their customers, but instead broad their services to any kind of problem that might come through the way of their customers. • 4. Monster Mash In Frankenstein The Monster Mash: Is it Possible to Make a Monster? Can we reanimate life after death? First we need to ask ourselves what life is; Oxford Dictionaries describe life as the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death . Would it be possible to create a new life from dead bodies? This question is answered through entertainment in both film and literature. The primary source of this is the book and movie, Frankenstein. Although the book is merely science fiction, there is still some curiosity on the plausibility of the creation of life. This brings up the question; using the modern technology and scientific discoveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously, this would take more than one day, because we have to wait for the right donors for each organ and body part, making time a factor in creating the monster.. The issue with this process is that an organ can only survive for so many hours after being taken out of the body and functioning through artificial means. This raises an issue for the creation of the Monster as all the parts need to be healthy prior to the reanimation of the body. The solution: Cryonics. The main purpose of cryonics is the cryopreservation of humans, pets, and their organs (especially the brain) so that through future technologies they may be reanimated at a later date. The main process used by Cryonists is known as vitrification, the process of freezing the water within living tissue to prevent deterioration. In order to successfully vitrify living tissue, scientists use cryostats, containment devices that are used to maintain cryostatic temperatures around в€’320В°F or в€’196В°C using liquid nitrogen (Michaels). Scientists are already beginning to explore the possibilities of the reanimation of cryogenically frozen subjects with the use of nanotechnology, but our main purpose is simply to prevent the deterioration of the Monster s organs whilst the collection process is occurring. After all the parts have been assembled, all that s left to do is thaw out the frozen organs and put together our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lighting In Hamlet Essay Similarly, to other theater designers, lighting designers play an important role in the world of the play. In order to create the appropriate environment and set the mood for the play, the lighting designers need to choose carefully the lighting techniques they will use to meet the audience s expectations plus the overall concept of the production. For these reasons, I will describe the lightingdesigns that we came up with for the Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Prince of Denmark First of all, we have our main lighting techniques for the majority of the scenes contributing to the environment and the overall mood of the play. These are that our world is pretty dim since we are in space and we do not have too much light coming in, only those from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the colors filling our world are mainly dark blue, purples, and a combination of soft and bright whites. This would provide the audience a sense of how serious and suspense is everything that is happening with these characters. The lights are changing quite smoothly throughout the play since our time is moving slowly due to how tense the environment feels. However, the However, when the three most important scenes take place the lights are transition abruptly changing from a mysterious mood to a tragic and dramatic one. The directional lighting is from a single light source, which is the moon. Therefore, it is produced by a follow spot creating an unpleasant look of the characters. The area lighting is outside of the stationary spacecraft where most of the scenes will take place. Following, I will explain the three specific moments that we chose to light up during the play. First, we have scene where King Hamlet ghost appears before Hamlet to tell him the secret of his death. For this moment, the world stays dim, not too much brightness providing a suspenseful mood and kind of scary environment. The colors choice is a combination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Lecture On International Sustainable Tourism Triple Bottom Line During a lecture in International Sustainable Tourism, we discussed the Triple Bottom Line or Triple Bottom Line Reporting, which means expanding the traditional reporting framework to take into account environmental and social performance in addition to financial performance. This framework is becoming an accepted approach for organizations to demonstrate they have strategies for Sustainable Growth. It focuses on decision making and reporting, which explicitly considers an organization s economic, environmental and social performance. • 13. The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose... Introduction: The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over a hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). This is the first of the three main aspects of Berger s Sacred Canopy. Externalization, Berger says, is the ongoing outpouring of human being into the world, both in the physical and the mental activity of men, (4). Every time an individual externalizes himself upon the environment, it changes, thus creating a new set of choices to be made. This imposition of our decisions then leads to objectivation the second aspect of the sacred canopy. According to Berger, the humanly produced world becomes something out there. It consists of objects, both material and non material that are capable of resisting the desires of their producer. Once produced, this world cannot simply be wished away, (9). In other words, objectivation occurs when the products of what we create impose themselves back upon us and take on a life of their own. Gender roles, for example, are objectivations and are different in varying societies. Berger explains that society assigns to the individual not only a set of roles but a designated identity. In other words, the individual is not only expected to perform as husband, father or uncle, but to be a husband, a father, or an uncle (14). The final aspect of Berger s sacred canopy is internalization. Internalization is the acceptance of these objective realities that society imposes upon us. Immigrants In Canada Canada is a country that is known as a mosaic of people and cultures, meaning; it opens it arms to immigrant families and gives them the freedom to express their own cultural values, ideas, beliefs and customs. It is this system that welcomes thousands and thousands of immigrants a year with open arms and the idea of a better life. This idea however, is sometimes not always as easy as it is thought to be. Though Canadais an amazing country for immigrants to start a new life and get better education, health care, and job opportunities, immigrant families are met with many challenges before they are able to become accustom to their new life. It is important to understand the true difficulty of the Immigrant Experience and the impact it has on families including adults as well as children. If it is easier to understand the difficulties immigrant families go through in search of a better life in Canada there can be more resources made to help them. It is important to take into consideration each individual difficulty that is faced and properly research each factor in order to have a better understanding on how to make the complete economic and societal integration of immigrants happen faster. There is a number of categories that relate to the integration of immigrants into society and a number of steps they must take to be a part of Canadian society. In order to understand these steps they have to be thoroughly researched. Language Barriers When immigrants first step into Canadas borders the most obvious challenge they have to face is the barrier that is set immediately due to language differences. Canadas official languages include both English and French these languages arguably are the most difficult languages to learn. In many ways, for immigrants the first step to both economic and societal immigration is learning English. Without learning English and proper English literacy skills there is little chance of getting a well paying job, making connections with people in Canadian society and overall, without English immigrants are unable to communicate with others around them in society during everyday life. Throughout the dance, the main witch simply walked around the stage slowly waving her hands back and forth which is not impressive to watch because one assumes anyone would be able to perform that movement. Furthermore, I understand that the scene was supposed to be slow and mysterious, but I think more skillful maneuvers such as slow controlled spinning could have added to the impressiveness of this dance piece. However, I think the dancers did do a great job in the extension of their arms and legs from their body. Each of the witches had long capes connecting to the end of their arms so the long extension looked really impressive and really dramatized the mysteriousness of the dance. The Persian wars were fought because Darius I was out to attack the land of the Greeks. Their were two Persian wars that occurred. The first was the Battle of Marathon, under control of Darius I was a battle of Persia vs Athens. During the first war the Athenians used phalanx formation which meant they had long spears to defeat the Persians. The second war was when Persia was under control of Xerxes I. The Persians invaded them so badly that Athens was to weak to fight back on their own. They had to request help from other city states. Marketing s Development And Success Essay In contemporary society, due to the seller economic model is transforming to the buyer economic model gradually in the market which has resulted from social progress as well as technological development, marketing plays a prominent role in an enterprise s development and success. In order to achieve better performance of marketing, marketing study is indispensable. As Hackley (2009) indicated, Marketing studies seems to have the ability to appeal in different guises to different audiences , meanwhile, he also argued that marketing studies is in its most popular guise which refers to a resolutely one dimensional problem solving discipline . (Hackley, 2009, p.45). From the author s point of view, one dimensional problem solving discipline is a simple way of pure transactions between the seller and the buyer which is direct and straightforward. At the same time though, questions of how much Mailer s bias is affecting the novel are raised. Furthermore, Freud believed that parents permitting too much or too little gratification of sexual needs led to a fixation on that activity throughout their lifetime (Shaffer et al., 2010). Those protagonists, Percy Jackson and Gilgamesh, have similarities and differences, which can be used to see how humanity s view of the concept of a hero has changed over the last three thousand and two hundred years. The differences in their qualifications for heroic qualities, both traditional and modern, highlights how humanity s viewpoint of what it means to be a hero has changed. Way back when, in ancient Mesopotamia, a hero only needed to be a special guy that gods or goddesses took a special interest in. Nowadays, there are character requirements for being a hero, such as having the ability to emphasize with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh was never defeated by another person in combat. The single time Gilgamesh explicitly failed a challenge was when Utnapishtim told him to stay awake for six days and seven nights if he wished to gain eternal life and the only other human in the same league as Gilgamesh was Enkidu as before Aruru created Enkidu, Gilgamesh had no rival. Also, Enkidu and Gilgamesh never used their wits, only ever solving their problems through the application of brute force. Another traditional qualification that Percy Jackson and Gilgamesh share is that they have both captured the interest of several deities. However, they differ in that deities are generally either against or neutral to Percy Jackson from the get go while Gilgamesh only later creates his own enemies as consequences for his actions. Before Percy Jackson was born, the big three, including Percy Jackson s father, Poseidon, swore to stop having children with mortals. Percy Jackson s birth broke this oath. Also, Zeus s lightning bolt was stolen and as Chiron told Percy, You could easily have snuck into Olympus. Zeus believes he has found his thief. These new graduate nurses who leave the profession commonly report reaching a state of burnout (Suzuki, Tagaya, Ota, Nagasawa, Matsuura, Sato, 2010). Furthermore, with an aging nursepopulation, high attrition rates only compound the threat of an impending nursing shortage. Finally, Aaron Antonovsky s (1979) concept of sense of coherence, offers insight into why there are variances in the perception of unmet needs and the experience of stress. Sense of coherence is a descriptor of one s orientation to life and a predictive tool for health outcomes. It describes one s degree of confidence to manage life s stressors and feelings of optimism that events will work out reasonably. These feelings of control and optimism can free one up to look forward to new and exhilarating opportunities and in essence, toward a more self actualized way of being and doing (Antonovsky, 1979). He suggested that contextual factors determine whether one has the protective resources to manage stimuli. The attainment of these protective resources determines whether stimuli are stressful and resolvable. If one cannot resolve workplace stressors, or optimistically reorient how they perceive a workplace stressor, they may not be able to engage in self actualization as a novice nurse. For this study, Maslow s (1943) theory, supported by the work of Rogers (1959) and Antonovsky (1979), provides a roadmap of factors that may distract or even disable novice nurses from engaging in self actualization in the ... Carnage and bloodbaths were overlooked by the media since they had become conventional (Derry 164), seen in Friday the 13th (I, II, II, and IV; 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1984) and Halloween (I, II, and III; 1978, 1981, and 1982) (Derry 164 165). Films in this period are, instead of having just random violence, punishing those who are seen as deserving of it. The 70s and 80s had to deal with the consequences of the sexual revolution and a record outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases, so the films of the age executed teen promiscuity (Derry 165). Women are also a common victim, as a direct response to the feminist movement (Derry 165). Another fear is the fear of the demonic and contains such films as The Exorcist (1973) and The Omen (1976) (Derry 166). Personality fears say life is terrible because people are insane, and demonic fears are that evil is present in the world (Derry 166). These films include recurring elements: children as a view of innocence, vengeance of Satan against God, possession, and Christian symbology which supports and depraves the Christian aspect (Derry 166). Diagonal tension failure: This usually occurs in the structural components with considerably less amount on internal stirrups and the longitudinal reinforcement. This is due to the shear capacity is not the only contribution of the concrete strength it also adds on the strength of the internal stirrups and the longitudinal reinforcement. They are generally initiated from the flexure cracks and the propagated to the entire cross section. Shear compression failure: This type of failure of a structure is caused due to the crushing of concrete at compressive zone above the tip of the shear crack. This is basically observed in structural members with low web reinforcement but sufficient longitudinal reinforcement. Shear cracks are initiated from the flexure cracks but do not pass through the compressive region. Shear tension failure: This type of crack tends to propagate along the main bars due to the secondary flexure shear crack. In this circumstance the longitudinal reinforcement loses the bond with concrete due to insufficient anchorage or the concrete cover subsequently leading to the failure.
