Eddie s Death in Arthur Miller s A View From the Bridge...
Eddie s Death in Arthur Miller s A View From the Bridge Arthur Miller described this play as being
the slum that faces the bay on the seaward side of Brooklyn Bridge…the gullet of New York Arthur
Miller was born on October 1915, in New York City. His parents were both immigrants to the USA.
Miller s family lived in prosperity due to the success of his father s clothing manufacturing business.
However as the clothing manufacturing collapse, the family became bankrupt, with the American
Economy as a whole following the Wall Street crash. Following the Wall Street crash, Miller worked

When Beatrice s cousin, Rodolfo and Marco (two brother seeking refuge in the USA) appeared on the
scene all things changed as the story finally unfolds in a tragic bloody death. Eddie s wife, Beatrice,
was aware of the deeper, more disturbing reason for Eddie s protectiveness towards Catherine.
Nevertheless, Catherine is very selfish in her behaviour, had Catherine listened to Eddie and retained
respect for him, she might have not have fallen for Rodolfo and caused the chain of events leading to
the tragedy. Catherine should have been more conscientious, more obedient and resisted Rodolfo s
advance at Eddie s behest. Catherine was careless, absent minded and inattentive. Beatrice is liable for
Eddie s death based on the fact that she has not provided Catherine with the correct advice. Moreover,
Beatrice encourages Catherine to be independent and therefore misleading her. In provoking Catherine
with phrases as you got to keep yourself more , and go ahead, dance Rodolfo Beatrice forms a
protective barrier, forcing Eddie to back off Catherine s case in becoming an independent girl and
move ahead her relationship with Rodolfo. Beatrice saw the unhealthy attraction between Catherine
and Eddie but acted ineffectively and too late to stop it. You want somethin else, Eddie, and you can
never have her! Following the traditional law of the community

Sodium Chloride Lab
Sodium Chloride is added to the ice to lower the melting point of the ice, which is called ionic
dissociation. The sodium chloride is added to the ice in the larger bag in order to keep the dissolving
ice from becoming room temperature. Sodium chloride keeps the ice/ slush at a low temperature that
allows the ice/slush to start chilling the cream and milk which is located in the smaller bag. The
freezing point drops to about 10 degrees Celsius. This allowed the ice/ slush to remain cold at a low
temperature. The sodium chloride prevents hydrogen bonds and keeps the water molecules solid. This
is called freezing point depression. This is one of the colligative properties of science. Without the
temperature dropping, the ice/ slush would not remain cold and crystals would not be able to form in
the smaller bag. The crystals create the ice cream s texture. The solution with the sodium chloride
interferes with the production of crystals. The heat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, when about 8 minutes passed, the ice became mostly slush and water. I felt that it was still at a
cold temperature. I noticed how larger crystals were forming in the bag with the milk and cream. It
had a thick texture. The sodium chloride kept the ice/ slush cold in order to freeze the milk and cream
in the bag. I noticed how cold the bag became when more salt was added. The salt, when put in the
bag, sped up the speed of the reaction occurring. I felt the bag become increasingly colder and even
when we put a towel on the bag, this did not affect the reaction. The heat the towel gave off was not
enough to slow down the reaction occurring. The ice cream froze evenly for the most part. When my
group took the small bag out that contained the milk and cream, I could see the very large crystals that
formed during the reaction. Since they were large crystals, the ice cream did not melt quickly when I

Essay on Two Perspectives of Viewing the World around Us
There are always two sides to a story, or two ways to look at something. It all depends on the way that
you look at things. When reviewing the works of St.Bonaventure, through Step one in the Ascent to
God and the Consideration of Him through His Footsteps in the Universe, and from Step two, we learn
of to opposing opinions that St. Bonaventure had about different perspectives of the world around us,
for different purposes, and with different results. By reading these two pieces I am able to understand
them, and how their opposing perspectives differ. I also chose Harmony with Nature by Matthew
Arnold, and Gods Grandeur by Gerald Manley Hopkins to compare in relationship with Step two. I

Bonaventure 55). Through the studies of scriptures St. Boanventure goes on to say how God created
us with goodness in the beginning, and how he believes it to (St. Bonaventure 56). In a brief summary
of St. Bonaventure s first step, St. Bonaventure is basically saying that God originally created the
world in six days with a pure greatness in mind. In this Step, and through the studies of scripture, St.
Bonaveture believes that the world around us is viewed as good, and the idea is related through
looking at the world around us with an artistic eye. In Step two from the Consideration of God in His
Footsteps in the Visible world, St. Bonaventure uses a different approach on looking a the surrounding
world. In step one St. Bonaventure looks at the world around us through an artistic approach. Unlike
Step one, St. Bonaventure is looking at the world around us through a scientific point of view, or a
scientific background. St. Bonaventure talks about how man perceives everything around him through
our five senses. He even uses the terminology of information passing from the external organ (ear), to
the internal organ (brain), then to the apprehensive faculty, as a way to describe the idea of how we
take in information and process it (St. Bonaventure 113). St. Bonaventure is looking at everything
around us, and realizing at one time God had his hand in this. Through a scientific approach and using

The Mortality Rate Of Humans
People recognize that death is the terminal point in the life of a physical body. In a moment, a person s
memory, personality, and experiences all seem to disappear. It is foolish for people to live a life
unprepared for the inevitable where one s existence ceases to exist. In fact, the mortality rate of
humans is 100 percent. Perhaps some essential part of people survive death and lives forever beyond
the grave. The truth can come from two choices speculation or revelation. Many people believe in the
afterlife because the various religions they practice. Several religions teach that life after death does
exist. Religious belief, however, does not entirely account for all the people who believe. Though, in a

Whether it s heaven or hell, one s soul may be judged or evaluated on where they will arrive in the
afterlife. The way a person has conducted themselves will influence their soul s destiny after death.
What survives after the death of the body? Prominent world religions view this part of afterlife
differently. For example, Christianity has dualistic conceptions. A non physical soul that separates the
body at death, but there are also contrasting views. For instance, many Christians believe that a
spiritual body resurrects after death. It can be physical and three dimensional. However, but that
spiritual body is distinct from a person s current physical body. Now, Buddhists do not believe that a
body contains a soul. However, they do believe a person s karma survives death, prior sensations,
perceptions, and consciousness transmit to another physical body. The moment death occurs, it sets in
motion of an immediate retribution for the consequences of these desires or actions. Then forcing the
individual to be reborn once again into the unceasing cycle of karma and samsara. (Sumegi 2013).
Religion can date back as far as homo sapiens existence (100,000 B.C.E.). People of this time
conducted burial rituals and handled the dead with care and consideration. However, it is known they
buried their dead with food, weapons, stone implements, decorative shells, and bones in the graves

The Role Of Bias In Speech-Language Pathology
A phenomenon applicable to the vast field of Speech Language Pathology, and the foundation of
research now and in the future can all be attributed to, difference versus disorder. This concept
considers the complexities of those served within the profession and highlights the range of
possibilities displayed from an individual, that draws a fine line between a person being labeled as
having a dialectal difference or a speech and/or language disorder. A difference can be defined as an
alteration in an individual s speech and/or language that can be attributed to internal and external
factors such as race, culture, and the environment in which a person lives. In contrast, a disorder is an

There are distinctive social rules, behaviors, interpretation rules, production rules, and proximity rules
that exist in varying cultures (Taylor Payne, 1983). This impacts how a client will address and behave
towards a clinician depending on their background. Within this bias fall misunderstanding and
misinterpretation due to what is acceptable in one culture versus what is acceptable in another culture
(Taylor Payne, 1983). Situational biases develop from the pragmatics aspect of language, reflecting
the possibility of response variability based upon the situation, the audience, and the topic (Taylor
Payne, 1983). Next, the article discussed directions or format bias, which reveals the faults within the
framework of test materials. The format of certain tests and the directions within the test usually do
not consider various cultures, and may not be relevant to some cultures. The article gives the example
of Chicano children who have field dependent orientation to cognition; they may not know how to

The Traditional Family And The Socialization Of The Modern...
Introduction.
The family is one of the oldest but most important institution known to man and the society in which
he/ she lives. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2005) a family consists of two or more people,
one of whom is the householder, related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing in the same
housing unit. A household consists of all people who occupy a housing unit regardless of relationship.
A household may consist of a person living alone or multiple unrelated individuals or families living
together. Therefore, during the course of time, the family structure has evolved, in some cases,
changed which resulted in different family structures forming. Two of the most important are the
traditional family structure and the modern family structure. As a result, various theorists have his/ her
own views of these two family structures. With the views expressed by those theorists, it ... Show

The structural functionalists view the traditional family as an important institution which is the basic
building block of society that carry out the crucial functions of socialising the young and meeting the
emotional needs of its members. Additionally, some theorists argue that traditional family is universal.
To this extend, they see the family as performing several essential functions. These include:
a) Stable satisfaction of the sex drive within monogomous relationships
b) The biological reproduction of the next generation without which society cannot continue.
c) Socialisation of the young teaching basic norms and values
d) Meeting its members economic needs producing food and shelter for example
Some hold the view that the traditional family is the only institution that can perform two core
functions in society: Primary Socialisation and the Stabilisation of Adult Personalities.

2. How do you view the internal competition being fostered at Nypro? Does this contribute to or deter
innovation?
Nypro has an organizational structure that facilitated aggressive internal competition. Its successes and
apparent valuable contribution to company s results and innovation pursuits is largely attributed to the
leadership of George Lankton who imbibes the competitive spirit and eventually trickled this down to
the project teams and location managers. Nypro s internal competition supports the company s
innovation thrust for the following reasons:
1) High performance standards. Internal competitions competition brought to fore a very high
awareness and constant focus to performance statistics. These performance statistics are compared
within groups within the same plant and vis a vis those of other plants. Understandably, teams would
want to attain the best scores or performance ratings as possible within the organization without
compromising company values and objectives.
2) Because performance evaluation utilized the element of competition, groups and individuals are
motivated to contribute to overall company innovation and improvement because of expectations of
incentives (stock programs, internal company recognition, etc).
3) Customer focus and continuous improvement. Nypro s plant and CIT teams will be able to

States has been a partner in the assassination of Trujillo that helped climb to power.
The decision to take down Trujillo was reinforced in the early 1960 when the united states passed to

that the United States opposed only governments. Unaware of the small talk going on around him,
Trujillo continued to live up to his reputation. In June, his side men blew up a car with Venezuelan

The Effects of Imperialism Imperialism was a negative event that happened to the Democratic

How Did Pirenne Contribute To The Decline Of Civilization
Pirenne As a Belgian historian, Henri Pirenne challenged the long held belief that the decline of
civilization occurred because of the Germanic invasions in the Roman Empire. Renaissance and
Reformation thinkers, Enlightenment philosophers, and Modernist historians all pointed to the
Germanic invasions that begin in the fifth century as giving rise to the decline and fall of the Roman
Empire. Instead, Pirenne points to the swift and surprising spread of Islam as the reason behind the
break with traditional antiquity. Islam cut off trade in the Mediterranean, thus making the
Mediterranean Sea and Musulman lake. For the first time in history, the center of life shifted
northward from the Mediterranean. Pierenne states that although there was a flood of Germanic
immigration to the Roman Empire, the invaders were simply absorbed into the Empire. The German
language died away. The Gothic conception of royalty was lost. All Germanic law was crushed and the
organization of the judiciary was entirely Roman. In Spain and Gaul, the Germanic character was
modified by Roman manners and Roman institutions. In the Empire, royal insignia went from
Germanic to Roman. The agricultural system of the Roman Empire continued without addition after
the invasions. Spanish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, McCormick speculates the reason merchants, and specifically merchants mentioned by name,
disappear from record books during the seventh century is not because there simply were no

books does not mean they did not exist. He counters that what we are left with is communications.
Using the movements of people, coinage, goods, and slaves, McCormick deftly adds another element

Sacrifice In The Poisonwood Bible
It is written, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one s life for one s friends,
(John 15: 13). What we value can only be seen through what we sacrifice. In the Poisonwood
Bible, Orleanna Price values only her daughters and herself. Through her sacrifices can this value be
seen. From distancing herself from her own husband to only saving her children from death, we see
her love for her daughters and her love for herself. Through this we see how her sacrifice illuminates
the character s values and provides a deeper understanding of the meaning of the work The
Poisonwood Bible as a whole.

Colonization Outweigh The Misfortunes
Why does Smith believe that the benefits of colonization outweigh the misfortunes ? The discovery
and colonization of America completely changed Europe s economy. Smith believed that colonization
benefits outweighed the misfortunes. He believed that both Europe and the colonies benefited because
they could relieve and help each other. However, it was clear that Europe benefited the most while the
natives in the colonies faced the misfortunes. Why does he write that the Indians lead a freer life than
Europeans? Thomas Morton was among one of the first settlers to write about Native Americans. He
claimed that they are guided only by nature and lead a freer, happier life because they were not

It is because of this reason that the author does not believe in absolute monarchies. However, he does
believe that limited monarchies can be compatible with freedom. What does Hamilton seem to think is
the greatest threat to liberty? In the trial of John Peter Zenger, in 1735 Hamilton equates Zenger s
defense with the cause of liberty . It was written this way to appeal to the jury and help them
understand that if they were they to limit Zenger s rights by finding him guilty, it would also limit
theirs. Hamilton thinks the greatest threat to liberty is depriving people of freedom of speech. How

The Heroic Code
The life of a warrior is not always filled with glamour and glory. Warriors cannot simply waltz
through a tough battle, shedding blood left and right and taking all the glory and credit for themselves.
There are often tough decisions to be made. Warriors also cannot just think of themselves, for their
decisions often affect the lives of others as well. They need the heroic code to guide them in their
decision making. In this essay, I will describe the heroic code and share its applications in the stories
of Beowulf, Gilgamesh and Noah, and The Illiad, as well as my other personal experiences. I will start
with the story of The Man of La Mancha, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf s loyalty is most prominent at the end when he fights the dragon. He did not want to fight the
dragon because of his age, but felt that he owed it to the king to do it. Beowulf was so highly revered
that everyone was deeply saddened by his death. He truly lived his life exactly to the Germanic heroic
code. Nearly all of Beowulf s actions in this poem follow the heroic code. He saved lives, fought
every battle bravely, was loyal even in situations of life and death, courageous, and rewarded and
revered even the warriors underneath him. The fact that he died in battle just means that he did not
only live as a hero but die as one too. The last example of the heroic code in epic stories is from The
Epic of Gilgamesh. Similarly to Beowulf, Achilles, and Hector, Gilgamesh was very strong and very
brave, like a typical hero. He is on a quest to be the ultimate hero and achieve everlasting life.
Gilgamesh has fought and won battles against several infamous monsters: Humbaba, the Bull of
Heaven, and a pack of vicious lions. However, even though Gilgamesh was very brave and strong, he
was not a good king to his people. He put his own interests before theirs and ruled with a cruel iron
fist, as well as being obsessed with his own legacy.
In conclusion, the heroic code was a set of beliefs and values that guided warriors to make the tough
decisions that they would undoubtedly be

Analysis Of Chopped And Screw
Houston, Texas is the hometown of an artist who pioneered an innovative genre of rap. Robert Earl
Davis Jr., better known as DJ Screw, birthed this genre by experimenting with turntables at a young
age. To Davis, there was precision in making his beat stand out from the others. His experimentation
led to the creation of what he called Chopped and Screwed. DJ Screw s interpretation of ideal rap
music governed not only the genre, but artist throughout Houston. During the 90 s, Chopped and

Inter caste marriage is prohibited in Hindu culture. Caste system only allows the endogamy system.
However, the upper caste men have a freedom to use exogamy and polygamy. Upper caste man is
allowed informal sexual rights to lower caste women but he does not give her a status of the wife
because she is considered as an untouchable and impure. On the contrary, the upper caste woman is
restricted to endogamous marriage and she is tied to the beliefs of wifely devotion. In terms of

Practices are common throughout the world however its impacts are varies. Oppression to Dalits
brings psychological outcomes. It is an internalization of mind reasoning their oppression and they
think that they have to be dehumanized. Humanity has been stolen and upper caste people are able to
oppress them. Dalit humiliation is a paradigmatic experience considering untouchability.
The dehumanizing meaning of this tradition undoubtedly designated that Dalits are worse off than
animals. That is the rejection of human identity. It really breaks the logic of human rights, human
values, and dignity. The major consequences of the humiliation over Dalit are an accepting of fatalism.
They think that situation is rotating and all actions are predetermined and therefore fate is inevitable.
Upper caste people force a psychological segregation and resetting fated group identity in the society.
That is the dehumanization of Dalit and development of fatalism.

but seeing the sign made it real. However, the sign also made me laugh a little. In a way it was like a
final good luck. There were three people in the group; my sister Tylie, her friend Ashley, and me. We
had departed from Blackfoot at five in the morning, so I already felt exhausted before we had even
began our adventure. There are three main sceneries while hiking Table Rock. The first is forest. The
sign is located at the beginning of it. For an eternity, although much of this hike felt like an eternity,
we were surrounded by trees with tall branches that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We had started hiking at seven O clock in the morning and got to the top at eleven O clock. Most
people hadn t thought to hike in the morning when it s cooler. We could tell, or hope, that the heat had
gotten to them because some of them were really grumpy. On our way down we ran into the angry
Canadian in the shale section. We named her this because she was wearing a Canada. We stopped and
talked to them and learned that they had taken a different trail up than we had that had taken much
longer. She was not happy it had taken so long. We saw at least twenty more people on the way down
but none of them were quite as entertaining as the angry Canadian. On this hike I learned a few things.
The first was that hiking can be really cool. Being in nature can be very peaceful and it is a nice break
from everyday life. The second thing I learned is that I get sick of hiking. It was peaceful but after a
while I got really board. I also learned that I really like jelly beans. We brought them for a snack and
they are really good. Like any life experience, this hike had its up and downs. It had some exiting and
some boring parts. In the end it was all worth

Genghis Khan As A Hero
Almost everyone in the world has heard the name Genghis Khan, but how they view his legacy varies
greatly depending on what part of the world they live in. In Europe and the Americas the name
Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much of Asia he
is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of some debate.
Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact that a boy named
Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire continent.
Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat
(Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of his birth
was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. Temujin was named after a
Tartar chief whom his father had recently slain in a raid (Hartog 13). At the age of 9, Temujin was sent
to live with his mother s tribe where where he would choose his future bride. Upon his return from
delivering his son, Yesugei died and Temujin was sent back to his family, but the tribal leaders denied
him his father s position as a tribal leader due to his young age. The tribe shunned and abandoned
Temujin and his family and they were forced to survive on their own.
During their time on their own Temujin and his family survived by hunting and fishing. It was during
this time that the future leader of the

Shrek Vs Donkey Analysis
While this comedic scene from Shrek , can be easily overlooked, there is deeper meaning within the
dialogue between Shrek and Donkey. At this point in the movie, Shrek is explaining to Donkey that
there is more to himself than meets the eye, like an onion, there are layers to his personality and what
people may see on the surface is different from the inner layers of himself. However, an onion is often
seen as something gross and undesirable. In return, Donkey assures Shrek that he s rather like a parfait
because parfaits are delicious and delectable. In the end, the difference between the two comparisons
is perspective. Moreover, Donkey saw the depth of Shrek s personality as a good thing, whereas Shrek
didn t think of it that way. And, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Public Speaking, stood out among the rest. On the first day that I watched Ryan give his speech for the
first time, I saw my 7th grade self within him. He was monotone and passive in the delivery of his
speech, even though he d known the content like the back of his hand. Over the course of the next few
months, I had the opportunity to teach Ryan some of the same speaking techniques I learned from
Parliamentary Procedure years prior. Though it took some work, by the time regionals came in
February, he exuded confidence and passion. As he walked across the stage at the Wharton Center and

changed and developed. I now could see the bigger picture, and while Ryan did not win, he grew
immensely over those three and a half months and I could not have been more proud of him. On that
day, everything in my life fell into place. The emotions I felt from being able to help Ryan grow, I
made the decision that for the rest of my life I want to be the Donkey figure for others and help them

Body Scanners Essay
Current Security Use of Body Scanners
With the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the administration of George W. Bush introduced
reforms in the screening process. A major component of these reforms was the establishment of the
cabinet level Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the TSA. TSA is an agency in the
Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for screening all travelers and their luggage, as
well as the screening of all air and rail transportation in the United States. The resulting changes in
screening restricted potential carry on weapons, such as sharp objects, scissors, clippers, and so forth.
The TSA also used various methods of determining risk factors for the detainment and more extensive

The flip side of the debate has been the potential cost of providing sufficient body scanners for all the
terminals and keeping the flow of travelers moving in a timely manner.
Body scanners were introduced in certain terminals starting in 2007 and 2008, with strict policies
identifying who would view the images and the assurance by officials that body images would be
erased from the system immediately after the traveler passed through. In December 2009, Nigerian
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to ignite a bomb that was hidden in his underwear during a
flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. While Abdulmutallab failed, the incident once again raised the issue
of body scanning technology into the public debate.
In autumn 2010, the TSA implemented enhanced screening procedures that included full body scans
and pat downs, igniting significant media coverage and public outrage. Despite heated national
dialogue over the enhanced procedures, several polls conducted by news outlets in 2010 found that the
majority of those polled approved of the TSA using full body scanners. An ABC/Washington Post
poll, however, found that 50 percent of respondents felt enhanced pat downs went too far. In 2014
researchers from UC San Diego, University of Michigan, and Johns Hopkins University also
demonstrated various flaws in the scanning technology that would allow disguised or cleverly placed

Oroonoko Analysis
Aphra Behn s Oroonoko is arguably one of the most tragic novels in British Literature. The love story
of two enslaved Surinam nobilities, who both meet their atrocious end, depicts shameful european
history in regards of slavery. The words painted white men as vile creatures who were known to be
dishonest and ruthless. Though one may say Behn s work brought light to a subject so taboo, others
argue that the novel plays into a racial narrative that minorities have struggled for centuries to break
free from. While Behn s explicit use of language expressed her disapproval of colonists, I believe her
work embodied the notion of whitewashing the text gain approval of a particular group. Considering
the fact, that Behn was the first women to live by her pen, and broke cultural norms, it is unclear if her
intention was enclosing a shock factor, or exercising her ability to challenge societal norms for the
greater good. Oroonoko describes how individuals are unable to be free people who grow
intellectually and ethically, instead slavery holds these prisoners captive leaving them a shell of a
person. Living in a european world where ignorance is used a bondage to restraint individuals from
comprehending the severity of slavery, and the impact these texts have made has shaped ideological
forces that shouldn t be disregarded. When deconstructing the text, I believe Alpha Behn s story of

A Summary Of Traditional Religion In Society
Butler uses traditional religion in the novel to demonstrate the ways in which it can be a destructive or
constructive force in society. Butler demonstrates the dangers of dogmatic, authoritarian religion when
it is used as an excuse to ignore the needs of others and the changes in society. Religion is not
inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren s community when it is used to
control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren s father. There is no
motivation to adapt or change. The religion in Lauren s neighborhood, led by her father, prevents its
members from moving forward as they believe in a literal acceptance of everything in the Bible
(Butler 23). The community s interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society changes.
By taking the Bible literally rather than using it as a guide for understanding the world around them,
as an example of how to extend community to the people who have been ostracized, the community
uses religion as an excuse to focus on themselves rather than focusing on others with further supports
the neoliberalism in their society. Lauren s community is willing to leave the safety of the community
to have a baptism in big tub of expensive water (Butler 16). Lauren points out that it would be less
expensive and less dangerous to be baptized at home in a bath tub, but no one pays attention to her
idea. She writes, to adults, going outside to a real church is like

Animal Rights In Animal Testing
Using animals in research and to test the safety of products has been a topic of heated debate for
decades. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science:
Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in
biomedical research and product safety testing (62). People have different feelings for animals; many
look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical
techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact
remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the
country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the
pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore,
animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are
violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State
University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is
not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans
26). Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain.
Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals rights are violated

Piercing the Veil in Taxation Matters
Piercing the veil is one of the most discussed and litigated doctrines in all of corporate law. A
company has a corporate personality distinct from its members. From the juristic point of view, it is a
legal person distinct from its members. This is the principal laid down in Salomon v. Salomon amp;
co. ltd., (1897) A.C. 22].The courts did this to in relation to a one person member company. The
principal is commonly referred as veil of incorporation The courts were bound by these principals but
they realised exceptions to the rule. This happened due to human inventiveness which started using
the veil of corporate personality deliberately for fraud and improper conduct. The courts started to lift

as follows: 1. Reduction of membership below statutory minimum (Section 45): This section provides

The Controversy Between Pro-Life And Pro Life
The issue of Abortions has been a controversy for years now. There are two main groups for this
problem, Pro Life, and Pro Choice. Pro Life supports the human rights of life should be embraced, by
religion and ethics. Pro choice is when someone wants to make this choice without no remorse of
human life, but because someone wants no part of it raising one. First up for discussion is the root of a
problem is a feminist. A feminist is the Pro choice in abortions, meaning that one believes that is the
woman s choice and right to have. Also, a feminist is someone who believes that a woman should not
mess up her body and should be worrying about her health. Pro choice believes that a fetus does not
have any right to life until twenty four weeks (Gupta, 2014). For example, someone that the writer
know has had four abortions and told her that she was not able to have another child because of having
so many procedures done. Next up for discussion the pro life. The pro life comes from those with
religion; these individuals believe that aborting something or someone is a sin. The writer thought and

Master Harold And The Boys Quotes
A famous quote by George Orwell states If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell
people what they do not want to hear . Master Harold and the Boys, a play that was originally set in
apartheid South Africa, tells us the story of a young white boy (Hally) who felt he was superior over
two black men (Sam and Willie) simply because he felt they were servants to his mother, thus they
were of no significant in the society at that time. Although the social challenges of writing literatures
like Master Harold and the Boys was risky and challenging, Fugard uses simple day to day events and
interactions between Hally and Sam to expose the injustices committed by the apartheid Government
at that time.
Hally as a teenager was very considerate of the socio political struggles that were going on in South
Africa at that time wherein blacks were oppressed by the whites. As a result of this, he used this
motive to mock Sam and Willie on several scenes in the play. He s a white man and that s good
enough for you. (pg. 53) In this quote, Hally was insisting that Sam must call his father Boss since he

Joey, And All Other Animals
I would say Joey is the main character of the play. Joey, and all other animals, is a large wooden

Tom Larkin. There is a person for his head, a person for his heart and a person for his hind. They work

doing this it make the audience feel sympathy towards Joey. I believe that the puppets were used so
that they can re invent the ordinary and make the audience feel sympathy towards an inanimate object
that was doing things that it wasn t meant or designed to do.
Albert Narracott, played by Lee Armstrong, is also a significant character in the play. He is Joey s
owner and a 16 year old boy. He changes throughout the play, starting out as a young, naïve boy, but
he turns into someone more obsessive when looking for Joey and joining the army. At the start of the

when he joined the army, and was wearing a soldier s uniform to show his transition from a farmhand

Design ( flexible barrier) : The design approach for the flexible barrier is the most developed part of

of the fence, downward deflection of the fence, sizing of the fence. These all aspects helps to get a
better design of the fences which can withstand very harsh and aggressive environment. MEL

rockfall is very low so after the impact with the fence ie. when a boulder hits the fences there is a need
for the repair or the replacement of the fence as the barrier have to catch a boulder with a maximum
energy level of 100% and the residual height after the impacts shows the quality of the barrier. SEL
(Service energy level): This is the type of the fences in which the barrier has to catch the two impacts
of the boulder with ⅓ of the MEL energy being damaged. These type of fences are used where the
occurrence of the rockfall is more. After the first impact of the boulder, the residual height should be
greater than 70% so that the fence can take the second impact which is just to catch the boulder.

to jump into the hybrid car craze. Some of the most popular hybrid cars are the Toyota Prius, Honda
Insight and Ford Fusion. There is also the electric car that relies solely on electricity to get from point
A to point B. the downside to these cars however is that they only get about 100 miles before needing
to be recharged. Hybrids are different because they rely on a mixture of two sources, electricity and
gasoline. Hybrids can get further than electric cars because of this reason. Electric and hybrid cars
have a special braking system called regenerative braking. Regenerative braking causes the car to

Mongol Influence On Russia
The unification of the Mongol tribes by Chinggis Khan resulted in a powerful army and a series of
military campaigns that constructed the Mongol Empire. The Mongol Empire, lasting from the 13th to
the 14th centuries, exerted considerable political, social, and economic influence on conquered regions
such as Eastern Asia and Russia. For example, as a result of the Mongols revitalizing long distance
trade networks such as the Silk Road, both China and Russia experienced the exchange of cultures,
technologies, and diseases. However, Mongol influence on China quickly diminished after the
collapse of the Mongol Empire whereas the influence of Mongol expansion on Russia was more

After Mongol rule over China ended in 1368 CE by rebel forces, the renewal of Confucian values and
a patriarchal social structure in the following Ming Dynasty signifies the refusal by the native Chinese
to assimilate Mongol practices into their native culture. This adamant refusal can be attributed to
discrimination against the Chinese in Mongol law and conflicting ideologies concerning the role of
women and the social status of merchants and artisans. On the other hand, the impact of Mongol
expansion to Russia continued to be influential even after the collapse of the Mongol Empire.
Linguistically, амбар in Russian and амбаар in Mongolian both translate to barn. Overall, there are
thousands of borrowed words, phrases, and other characteristics from the Mongol and Turkic language
that are featured in the Russian language because of interactions between the two during the Mongol
Empire. Moreover, the Golden Horde s occupation of Eastern Europe inadvertently resulted in the
unification and strengthening of Russia. Prior to Mongol rule, Russia was divided into city states ruled
by various independent princes. A weak economy and the lack of a strong centralized power made it
easy for the Mongols to conquer Russia. However, under Mongol rule, princes attained wealth through
siphoning off taxes as tribute collectors and learned to centralize their power from the Mongols while
the Orthodox Church was able to flourish and rise as a unifying force through tax exemptions. The
Russian state found strength in a common religion and in an allegiance towards a grand prince later
called the Tsar; overthrowing the Mongols. The reason between these differences in China and Russia
is due to different methods of administration. China was mostly governed by foreign officials, only
Mongols were allowed to hold high posts, and the Chinese held little

The Power of the Sky Goddess Nut In Egyptian Mythology (Outline)
ABSTRACT
On the ceiling of the Hypostyle Hall in the Temple of Hathor are seven bands of astronomical figures
showing the Romans signs of the zodiac, vultures and winged sun disks. Stretching over these painted
raised reliefs is a depiction of the sky goddess Nut, the mother of Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, Horus and
Seth. Nut was depicted as the sky. She takes on the role of mother to the stars and the sun, swallowing
the sun god each night and giving birth to the sun each day, thus controlling the passage of time. Nut
also controlled the passage of the deceased between life and death. Her important role was often

She was separated from Nut by Shu to give order to the universe. This is illustrated in tomb paintings,
which show her body arched over the Earth as her father Shu supports her with upraised arms.
She gave birth to Isis, Osiris, Nephthys, Seth and Horus.
NUT AND THE SUN GOD:
As described in pyramid texts, Nut controls the rising and setting of the sun. She gives birth to the sun
god Ra each day, causing the sun to rise into the sky. When the sun sets, Nut is swallowing the Re
until the next morning, when she will give birth to him again.
II. THE FUNCTION OF NUT IN EGYPTIAN ART
NUT AS THE BEARER OF THE GODS:
Nut is described as bearer of the gods. She plays an important role as mother of the king by giving the
king safe passage into the afterlife where he may then achieve life among the gods.
NUT AS THE KEEPER OF TIME:
Nut was known to be the keeper of time as she bears the sun daily and controls the seasonal movement
of the sun. She is shown in the Dendera temple next to the Dendera zodiac. Her body is also depicted
as a celestial map in earlier paintings of coffin lids. This showed Nut s powerful control over the
movements of constellations, thus showing that her presence is vital to the passage of time.
Other texts indicate Nut s reunification with Geb is what causes

Application Of Dgs For Local Network Stability
Introduction: Due to increased concern on energy crisis and environmental issues, power industry is
shifting their power production from conventional power sources to renewable energy sources, and is
incorporating it into the grid utility in the form of distributed generations (DGs). The application of
DGs can enhance reliability and stability of the local network, and can reach benefit to the supplier by
reducing system losses and investment on a new transmission line due to increased power
consumption [1]. Power generation in the form of DGs for local and grid utility can create issues as
many as it may solve. Therefore, a microgrid concept is evolved to coordinate among sources, loads,
and energy storage devices for maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inverters are able to supply controlled voltage and frequency depending on the control algorithms [3].
The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore,
specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5].
There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding
complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular
due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and
reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV)
transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations.
Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable
energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics
of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are
significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Some of the
issues, which are a promised field for future research, are described shortly below:
Distribution network: In a LV distribution network, the well known P/f droop control requires much

different ways a black hole in outer space is created or is born (Caltech.edu).
How does a black hole grow? Black holes grow by eating other stars (Science Technology from the
U). Black holes sometimes constantly swallow stars because they are too close to the black hole
(Science Technology from the U). First, Scientists found out that black holes grow very big because
they are sucking binary stars, and they also discovered that there are two ways that causes a black hole
to grow super big and they are with gas clouds and with stars (Science Technology from the U).
Secondly, they also grow by sucking in anything that comes near it. Black holes mostly grow super
big by stars because sometimes there is gas and sometimes there is not. There are a large amount of
stars sucked into a black hole. Black holes come in different sizes such as small, medium, and large. It
s hard to measure a black hole (Mack 31). Third, there is no real surface to measure of a black hole so
that makes it hard to measure a black hole (Mack 31). There is only a boundary around the black hole
and the boundary around the black hole is called an event horizon

Homecoming Poem
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe s Homecoming are thematically
connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both
Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on
World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these
views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including
contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery.
Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth and
is used to create a pervading sense of war s irony. The very title of Dawe s poem, Homecoming , has
the positive connotations of family reunion but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by
the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of
the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these ideologies; one
preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one s neighbour. These
shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred;
metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s knuckled hills and desert
emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe
momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Anthem for
Doomed Youth shares this ironic contrast, comparing traditional funeral rites to war. From the opening
stanza the audience is immersed in cacophony of battle, with Owen utilising the alliteration of rifles
rapid rattle to emulate the sound produced by the monstrous anger of guns . Personification is

Cold and Warm Fronts
Cold and Warm fronts Often times when we experience a drastic change in weather, these changes
occur from fronts. Both warm and cold fronts create sudden changes. These fronts are different air
masses that separate at different densities. Zones are what separate the difference between warm and
cold fronts. Often times between warm and cold front there are narrow lines and they`re typically
shown by lines on a weather map. Usually, an air mass advance into the region occupied by another
air mass. When two fronts collide this creates a midlatitude cyclone. Also, bringing much precipitation
and severe weather to the area. There are five basic types of fronts warm fronts, cold fronts, stationary
fronts, occluded fronts, and drylines. Although, these are all important and have a big impact on our
weather systems the most common are warm and cold fronts. Warm fronts are noted on a weather map
often by a red line with semicircles indication the direction in which the front is heading. They often
invade an area of cooler air, and bring warmer air to the area. Warm fonts usually move from
southwest to northeast and the air behind a warm front is usually warmer and moister than the air
behind it (Climate Weather. Web). They often come into play in the United States by (mT) or maritime
tropical. This is where the warm air enters the borders from the Gulf of Mexico pushing over the land
where cooler air exist. Generally when these fonts combine this produces all kinds of

A Nonparametric Test
Nonparametric Test
Education is even more important than ever today for anyone interested in entering the world of
employment with either large international corporations, or even local vendors serving the community
within the area where one lives. In an ongoing effort by our research team to determine if the
difference in the wages from our sample population of men and women, who have various levels of
education, does in fact make the difference. We are looking to use an additional test to discover
whether or not we can inconclusively state that from our previous test conclusion that our team
believes that there is a difference in the wages of the sample population.
In our investigation, the team will hope to convince the audience of ... Show more content on

After that, the team had to calculate the test statistic by using the Appendix B worksheet rank sum
sample size and rank sum from each group. The following formula gives the results of that worksheet
Our team then made our decision that because the test statistic of 18.51 is far greater then that of the
Chi square value at v = 4,  = .05 in Appendix E, we must reject the null hypothesis that all c
populations are the same (2007). These results can be viewed in Appendix D, where at the significance
level of .05, it shows the Chi square of 25.75, which is still far above the level for the team to reject
the null hypothesis that all c population medians are the same. The team continues the research by
giving details to the nonparametric test we used and why we opted to use it.
Explain Kruskal Wallis Test
The use of the nonparametric test teaches all researchers to use smaller sample, normality is not a
requirement, and can be used for ordinal (ranked) data. The reason for our team choosing the Kruskal
Wallis test is that; one, it is the corresponding test to the One Factor ANOVA test that we ran in the
previous research paper of week three; two the team was able to compare independent samples from
the five different groups even though the sample sizes were not the same, but did include the
minimum of five

Dilemma Of Informed Consent
Currently, there are nearly as many human biological samples stored in the United States as there are
people in the United States, and many of the sources of the samples remain unknown because
informed consent was not previously required. The main dilemma between informed consent and
scientists lies within the ethics and practicality of research on tissue removed from a patient s body for
surgical purposes. Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. In recent years, the
HeLa cell line and the cells backstory have precipitated outrage towards how the tissue was obtained,
managed, and the inadequacy of informed consent from Henrietta Lacks and her family. Since then,
other cases have become public regarding the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and
understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including
clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally
requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks
and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed consent). The definition
goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of the patient; however, tissue
removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned. Consequently, a gray area emerges
and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and what is practical. The ethical side
corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or her tissue. Although, again, there are
not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues removed from the body. The practical side
relates to the cost of future research and patient confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue
samples to the original patient. The practicality of voiding using consent forms, in terms of tissue,
eliminates the confusion within the scientific community, reduces additional cost burdens and
decreases potential privacy breaches to the original patient. Scientists, including David Korn,

Maintaining Information Stored On A User Freedom Without...
Operating systems have to provide a level of security to allow a user freedom without someone seeing
them making a purchase online. An attacker would find that purchase made very valuable, they can
acquire that information. From threats and attacks which could allow sensitive information to be
looked at or taken. The idea of an OS having a built in security levels is now a very crucial task. This
helps to secure information to not be looked at. Securing information stored and allowing only certain
users to look at it are the main components to protect. Now, computers and technology are a part of
our everyday life that we do not see the protection happening in the background. To understand this
more, information that is stored in a database, on a computer, through emails and websites are all
examples of secure information. An OS needs to have different levels of security built in that helps
protect this sensitive information. For some users and companies, they have very personal information
stored on their computer. Even for a regular user, an email should not be read when it is sent to
someone. A computer stores what is sent, if an attacker was able to get past the password they would
get that information. Making purchases online with a credit card should not be found or easily
accessible. On a company s side, they could hold up to millions of user s personal information such as
social security numbers, and information about you. This paper will explore the Windows

Causes Of The Musket War
In the beginning of the 19th century, almost all New Zealanders were considered to be Maoris. The
Maoris made up nearly the whole country, with a population between 100 120,000, while the
European population was down in the hundreds. In 1818, the Musket Wars resulted in the loss of over
a fifth of the Maori population, at least 20,000 dead and thousands more captured ( Overview of NZ ).
The Musket War was a war that began when the Europeans introduced their advanced technology and
muskets into New Zealand. The Musket Wars were a series of inter tribal wars caused by tribes all
trading to obtain muskets. At the end of the wars, in 1830, a new conflict for the Maori population
took rise when warfare gave way to economic rivalry ( The Musket Wars ). From 1830 on, Europeans
would come to New Zealand in waves of hundreds and thousands of people, threatening the Maoris
once complete control over the land. This brewing economic rivalry was what paved the way for the
Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand s founding document. This treaty was interpreted differently by the
English and Maoris, something the British had purposely done. The British plan to deceive the natives
resulted in both land and governmental conflicts. Land disputes caused by the treaty s
misinterpretations between the Maori people and the settlers sparked the New Zealand Wars in 1861
1870. At the end of these wars, new laws were passed that nearly abolished Maori rights. In 1896,
New Zealand was no longer a Maori

The Role Of White Privilege In American Society
**MAIN POINT #1: Black and White aren t colors, they re a variety of shades. **
**MAIN POINT #2: The truth is that White privilege doesn t solely exist, as all groups have privilege.
**
I m sick and tired of hearing about White privilege being tossed around, as if Whites are the only
group of people who have the capability to succeed. A fool in his heart says I can t to do it, but a wise
man says anything is limitless and does it without repercussion.
First, define what privilege means, according to good ole Merriam Webster:
**Full Definition of *****privilege***
1. : a right or immunity (http://www.merriam webster.com/dictionary/immunity) granted as a peculiar
benefit, advantage, or favor

There countless number of physicians. scientists, innovators, politicians, historical figures, etc. who
are African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latina/o American, etc. If there is privilege, then
why can minority groups hold government positions, go to respected universities, drive cars, read and
write, etc. Basically do anything a white person can do, without barriers.
Just realize the same people who are perpetrating the White privilege, are the same ones who want to
hold minorities down. You can t spend the rest of the twentieth century nagging about race, when it is
you could be making a change to the world. This whole concept is so ridiculous, that even I as a
minority have to laugh off at the notion.

The Negative Effects Of Advertising And Its Effects On Women
Picture this you re watching your favorite show and then all of a sudden this pops up IT WILL
LITERALLY MAKE YOU SKINNY IN LITERALLY 2 HOURS! ONLY $19.99 AND IF YOU
ORDER NOW YOU LL GET 2 FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!!! I bet you can literally picture it and
hear it perfectly but this is the problem with are advertising. Advertising is a big part of our culture but
it s taken a toll on our people including the children. Advertising has effects on our people s bodies,
self esteem, and is manipulative.
First, advertisements have a toll on the people especially women and children. Women are affected by
the fact that the models used must be so skinny and this makes woman self conscious. Parallels are
frequently drawn between the decreasing size of the female body ideal and both escalating levels of
women s body dissatisfaction and increases in the incidence of eating disorders There is now growing
empirical support for the view that these images play a role in fueling women s body dissatisfaction. (
Halliwell and Dittmar 105 106) This shows that advertisements make woman feel self conscious and
cause an unhealthy effect on the bodies of woman. Internalization of sociocultural attitudes toward
thinness and appearance moderated the impact of advertising on women s body focused anxiety.
(Halliwell and Dittmar 119). This further proves the point that advertisements cause effects to the
body because anxiety can stress the body out which isn t healthy and can also cause you to be sick.

History Of Facebook Essay
The History Behind Facebook
Facebook, originally named The Facebook , was created in a Harvard University dorm room in
February 4, 2004 by Mary Zuckerberg with his college roommate Eduardo Saverin. Mark and
Eduardo were both students of harvard at the time of creating Facebook. Eduardo was in charge of the
business end of the project and the funding while Mark was the creator/developer.
The name The Facebook taken from the harvard facebook, a book of students and staff of harvard. In
August of 2005 The Facebook then changed its name to Facebook after it was suggested by Sean
Parker the creator of Napster. The website was originally created as an exclusive site for anyone with a
registered harvard.edu email address. Within the first 24 hours of the launch of The Facebook over
1200 users signed up for a profile. Just after one month over half of the undergraduate programme had
a profile on The Facebook. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By October 2005 Facebook had reached twenty one universities in the UK and around the world. Soon
after this Facebook had several memberships from employees in large companies such as Apple and
Microsoft and in December 11, 2005 universities from Australia and New Zealand had joined the
network. Finally on September 26, 2006 Facebook had opened to the public allowing anyone with a
registered email address aged thirteen and over to join Facebook .
Before Facebook was created Mark Zuckerberg was approached by the Winklevoss twins, Cameron
and tyler Winklevoss. They asked Mark to be a part of their project The Harvard Connection. The
Harvard Connecting was to be a social networking site for Harvard students. Mark agreed to be a part
of this. By doing this Mark Zuckerberg entered into an oral contract with the Winklevoss

Competitive Advantage
Competitive advantages are strengths and strategies that keep a company ahead of its competitors. It is
hard to measure competitive advantage and harder to maintain it. Some competitive advantages are
fleeting. The successful companies are those that leverage their competitive advantage successfully
and repeatedly. As understood by us in the above example the competitive advantage that the
cyrptoses enjoy is a direct outcome of its natural habitat and hence the circumstantial gain over its
rivals. Cryptoses has strategically positioned and tactically planned its competitive advantage that
even though its fleeting, its competitive advantage is repetitive and successful. The other name for this
sort of competitive advantage could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But nothing lasts for ever, as the market matures there are new entrants and it posses a threat to the
competitive advantage. (fig. 2) Gradually with the time competition starts meeting the customer
expectations and the competitive advantage tends to reduce. Example As the company that created the
spreadsheet for PCs, Lotus led the way through much of the 1980s with its 1 2 3. But Lotus did not
foresee the success that Windows would have and failed to develop a version of 1 2 3 for it until 1991.
By then Microsoft s Excel had moved in to dominate the market. The duration of the competitive
advantage is subjective, it depends on impact by the competitors affecting the source of competitive
advantage. Microsoft Corporation is in a class by itself when it comes to exploiting the source for
competitive advantage. IBM chose Microsoft in 1980 to write the operating system for its new
personal computers. Microsoft produced DOS for IBM and then licensed it to more than 100
companies turning out IBM clones. Since it knew more than anyone else about the operating system
for PCs, Microsoft had a head start on applications software like word processing and spreadsheet
programs. Over the years its applications programs became leaders. In the mid 1980s, Microsoft
developed the Windows operating system, giving PCs some of the power and ease of use that had
been associated with Apple computers. Microsoft

His parents were both immigrants to the USA. Miller s family lived in prosperity due to the success of his father s clothing manufacturing business. When Beatrice s cousin, Rodolfo and Marco (two brother seeking refuge in the USA) appeared on the scene all things changed as the story finally unfolds in a tragic bloody death. Eddie s wife, Beatrice, was aware of the deeper, more disturbing reason for Eddie s protectiveness towards Catherine. Nevertheless, Catherine is very selfish in her behaviour, had Catherine listened to Eddie and retained respect for him, she might have not have fallen for Rodolfo and caused the chain of events leading to the tragedy. Catherine should have been more conscientious, more obedient and resisted Rodolfo s advance at Eddie s behest. Catherine was careless, absent minded and inattentive. Beatrice is liable for Eddie s death based on the fact that she has not provided Catherine with the correct advice. Moreover, Beatrice encourages Catherine to be independent and therefore misleading her. In provoking Catherine with phrases as you got to keep yourself more , and go ahead, dance Rodolfo Beatrice forms a protective barrier, forcing Eddie to back off Catherine s case in becoming an independent girl and move ahead her relationship with Rodolfo. Beatrice saw the unhealthy attraction between Catherine and Eddie but acted ineffectively and too late to stop it. You want somethin else, Eddie, and you can never have her! The sodium chloride is added to the ice in the larger bag in order to keep the dissolving ice from becoming room temperature. Sodium chloride keeps the ice/ slush at a low temperature that allows the ice/slush to start chilling the cream and milk which is located in the smaller bag. The freezing point drops to about 10 degrees Celsius. This allowed the ice/ slush to remain cold at a low temperature. The sodium chloride prevents hydrogen bonds and keeps the water molecules solid. This is called freezing point depression. This is one of the colligative properties of science. Without the temperature dropping, the ice/ slush would not remain cold and crystals would not be able to form in the smaller bag. The crystals create the ice cream s texture. The solution with the sodium chloride interferes with the production of crystals. The heat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, when about 8 minutes passed, the ice became mostly slush and water. I felt that it was still at a cold temperature. I noticed how larger crystals were forming in the bag with the milk and cream. It had a thick texture. The sodium chloride kept the ice/ slush cold in order to freeze the milk and cream in the bag. I noticed how cold the bag became when more salt was added. The salt, when put in the bag, sped up the speed of the reaction occurring. I felt the bag become increasingly colder and even when we put a towel on the bag, this did not affect the reaction. The heat the towel gave off was not enough to slow down the reaction occurring. The ice cream froze evenly for the most part. When my group took the small bag out that contained the milk and cream, I could see the very large crystals that formed during the reaction. Since they were large crystals, the ice cream did not melt quickly when I was enjoying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When reviewing the works of St.Bonaventure, through Step one in the Ascent to God and the Consideration of Him through His Footsteps in the Universe, and from Step two, we learn of to opposing opinions that St. Bonaventure had about different perspectives of the world around us, for different purposes, and with different results. • 12. How Did Pirenne Contribute To The Decline Of Civilization Pirenne As a Belgian historian, Henri Pirenne challenged the long held belief that the decline of civilization occurred because of the Germanic invasions in the Roman Empire. Renaissance and Reformation thinkers, Enlightenment philosophers, and Modernist historians all pointed to the Germanic invasions that begin in the fifth century as giving rise to the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. Instead, Pirenne points to the swift and surprising spread of Islam as the reason behind the break with traditional antiquity. Islam cut off trade in the Mediterranean, thus making the Mediterranean Sea and Musulman lake. For the first time in history, the center of life shifted northward from the Mediterranean. Pierenne states that although there was a flood of Germanic immigration to the Roman Empire, the invaders were simply absorbed into the Empire. The German language died away. The Gothic conception of royalty was lost. All Germanic law was crushed and the organization of the judiciary was entirely Roman. What we value can only be seen through what we sacrifice. In the Poisonwood Bible, Orleanna Price values only her daughters and herself. Through her sacrifices can this value be seen. From distancing herself from her own husband to only saving her children from death, we see her love for her daughters and her love for herself. • 15. The Heroic Code Samantha Budd 01/30/2013 Honors World Literature Ms. Iverson The Heroic Code The life of a warrior is not always filled with glamour and glory. Warriors cannot simply waltz through a tough battle, shedding blood left and right and taking all the glory and credit for themselves. There are often tough decisions to be made. Warriors also cannot just think of themselves, for their decisions often affect the lives of others as well. They need the heroic code to guide them in their decision making. In this essay, I will describe the heroic code and share its applications in the stories of Beowulf, Gilgamesh and Noah, and The Illiad, as well as my other personal experiences. He did not want to fight the dragon because of his age, but felt that he owed it to the king to do it. Beowulf was so highly revered that everyone was deeply saddened by his death. He truly lived his life exactly to the Germanic heroic code. Nearly all of Beowulf s actions in this poem follow the heroic code. He saved lives, fought every battle bravely, was loyal even in situations of life and death, courageous, and rewarded and revered even the warriors underneath him. The fact that he died in battle just means that he did not only live as a hero but die as one too. The last example of the heroic code in epic stories is from The Epic of Gilgamesh. Similarly to Beowulf, Achilles, and Hector, Gilgamesh was very strong and very brave, like a typical hero. He is on a quest to be the ultimate hero and achieve everlasting life. Gilgamesh has fought and won battles against several infamous monsters: Humbaba, the Bull of Heaven, and a pack of vicious lions. However, even though Gilgamesh was very brave and strong, he was not a good king to his people. He put his own interests before theirs and ruled with a cruel iron fist, as well as being obsessed with his own legacy. In Europe and the Americas the name Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much of Asia he is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of some debate. Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact that a boy named Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire continent. Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat (Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of his birth was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. Religion is not inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren s community when it is used to control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren s father. There is no motivation to adapt or change. The community s interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society changes. People have different feelings for animals; many look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans 26). He changes throughout the play, starting out as a young, naïve boy, but he turns into someone more obsessive when looking for Joey and joining the army. At the start of the play, Albert was wearing a turn of the century agricultural labour clothing, with a hat. This changed when he joined the army, and was wearing a soldier s uniform to show his transition from a farmhand in rural Britain to a soldier. Albert was a quite mature 16 years old and this could be because of Ted his father. Ted Narracott, played by Steven Hillman, is Albert s father. He is also a drunk and he owns the farm. He has many problems, which include being an alcoholic and a gambler. Design ( flexible barrier) : The design approach for the flexible barrier is the most developed part of all the rock fall protection system as it involves the design approach ( MEL SEL), corrosion protection of the fence, downward deflection of the fence, sizing of the fence. These all aspects helps to get a better design of the fences which can withstand very harsh and aggressive environment. MEL (Maximum energy level): This energy level fence is used at the site where the occurrence of the rockfall is very low so after the impact with the fence ie. when a boulder hits the fences there is a need for the repair or the replacement of the fence as the barrier have to catch a boulder with a maximum energy level of 100% and the residual height after the impacts shows the quality of the barrier. SEL (Service energy level): This is the type of the fences in which the barrier has to catch the two impacts of the boulder with ⅓ of the MEL energy being damaged. These type of fences are used where the occurrence of the rockfall is more. After the first impact of the boulder, the residual height should be greater than 70% so that the fence can take the second impact which is just to catch the boulder. Hybrid and electric cars are a way to reduce our carbon footprint. Many vehicle manufacturers are beginning to jump into the hybrid car craze. Some of the most popular hybrid cars are the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Ford Fusion. There is also the electric car that relies solely on electricity to get from point A to point B. the downside to these cars however is that they only get about 100 miles before needing to be recharged. Hybrids are different because they rely on a mixture of two sources, electricity and gasoline. Hybrids can get further than electric cars because of this reason. Electric and hybrid cars have a special braking system called regenerative braking. Regenerative braking causes the car to recharge the battery whenever the car is coasting or completely stopped. this helps maintain the car s battery life. The Mongol Empire, lasting from the 13th to the 14th centuries, exerted considerable political, social, and economic influence on conquered regions such as Eastern Asia and Russia. For example, as a result of the Mongols revitalizing long distance trade networks such as the Silk Road, both China and Russia experienced the exchange of cultures, technologies, and diseases. However, Mongol influence on China quickly diminished after the collapse of the Mongol Empire whereas the influence of Mongol expansion on Russia was more consequential and far reaching albeit inadvertently. After Mongol rule over China ended in 1368 CE by rebel forces, the renewal of Confucian values and a patriarchal social structure in the following Ming Dynasty signifies the refusal by the native Chinese to assimilate Mongol practices into their native culture. This adamant refusal can be attributed to discrimination against the Chinese in Mongol law and conflicting ideologies concerning the role of women and the social status of merchants and artisans. On the other hand, the impact of Mongol expansion to Russia continued to be influential even after the collapse of the Mongol Empire. Linguistically, амбар in Russian and амбаар in Mongolian both translate to barn. Overall, there are thousands of borrowed words, phrases, and other characteristics from the Mongol and Turkic language that are featured in the Russian language because of interactions between the two during the Mongol Empire. Moreover, the Golden Horde s occupation of Eastern Europe inadvertently resulted in the unification and strengthening of Russia. Prior to Mongol rule, Russia was divided into city states ruled by various independent princes. A weak economy and the lack of a strong centralized power made it easy for the Mongols to conquer Russia. However, under Mongol rule, princes attained wealth through siphoning off taxes as tribute collectors and learned to centralize their power from the Mongols while the Orthodox Church was able to flourish and rise as a unifying force through tax exemptions. The Russian state found strength in a common religion and in an allegiance towards a grand prince later called the Tsar; overthrowing the Mongols. The reason between these differences in China and Russia is due to different methods of administration. The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore, specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5]. There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV) transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations. Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery. These shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s knuckled hills and desert emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal allure. These fronts are different air masses that separate at different densities. Zones are what separate the difference between warm and cold fronts. Often times between warm and cold front there are narrow lines and they`re typically shown by lines on a weather map. Usually, an air mass advance into the region occupied by another air mass. When two fronts collide this creates a midlatitude cyclone. Also, bringing much precipitation and severe weather to the area. There are five basic types of fronts warm fronts, cold fronts, stationary fronts, occluded fronts, and drylines. Warm fronts are noted on a weather map often by a red line with semicircles indication the direction in which the front is heading. They often invade an area of cooler air, and bring warmer air to the area. Warm fonts usually move from southwest to northeast and the air behind a warm front is usually warmer and moister than the air behind it (Climate Weather. Web). Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed consent). The definition goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of the patient; however, tissue removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned. Consequently, a gray area emerges and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and what is practical. The ethical side corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or her tissue. Although, again, there are not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues removed from the body. The practical side relates to the cost of future research and patient confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue samples to the original patient. In 1818, the Musket Wars resulted in the loss of over a fifth of the Maori population, at least 20,000 dead and thousands more captured ( Overview of NZ ). The Musket War was a war that began when the Europeans introduced their advanced technology and muskets into New Zealand. The Musket Wars were a series of inter tribal wars caused by tribes all trading to obtain muskets. At the end of the wars, in 1830, a new conflict for the Maori population took rise when warfare gave way to economic rivalry ( The Musket Wars ). From 1830 on, Europeans would come to New Zealand in waves of hundreds and thousands of people, threatening the Maoris once complete control over the land. This brewing economic rivalry was what paved the way for the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand s founding document. This treaty was interpreted differently by the English and Maoris, something the British had purposely done. The British plan to deceive the natives resulted in both land and governmental conflicts. Land disputes caused by the treaty s misinterpretations between the Maori people and the settlers sparked the New Zealand Wars in 1861 1870. Advertising is a big part of our culture but it s taken a toll on our people including the children. Advertising has effects on our people s bodies, self esteem, and is manipulative. First, advertisements have a toll on the people especially women and children. Women are affected by the fact that the models used must be so skinny and this makes woman self conscious. Parallels are frequently drawn between the decreasing size of the female body ideal and both escalating levels of women s body dissatisfaction and increases in the incidence of eating disorders There is now growing empirical support for the view that these images play a role in fueling women s body dissatisfaction. ( Halliwell and Dittmar 105 106) This shows that advertisements make woman feel self conscious and cause an unhealthy effect on the bodies of woman. Internalization of sociocultural attitudes toward thinness and appearance moderated the impact of advertising on women s body focused anxiety. (Halliwell and Dittmar 119). This further proves the point that advertisements cause effects to the body because anxiety can stress the body out which isn t healthy and can also cause you to be sick. ...
