Intermittent Numbness Case Summary
Chief Complaint Intermittent numbness, left lower extremity. History The patient is an 80 year old
right handed white female, who presents with her male partner for evaluation of left lower extremity
symptoms. She did present for an EMG nerve conduction study in May. At that time, she gave a
history of intermittent numbness into the anterior lateral thigh. The numbness rarely extended below
the knee at that time, and it rarely occurred on the right. There was no clear radicular component. Her
exam was normal. Her EMG of the left lower extremity was limited because she is on Pradaxa, but it
was normal and CBs were consistent with a mild motor neuropathy. The diagnosis was possible
meralgia paresthetica. The patient now states that the numbness is intermittent. It is on the anterior
thigh, but now it goes down into the calf anteriorly and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Elementary Forms Of Religious Life
In his theory of how society and the individual coincide with each other Emile Durkheim believes that
the role of the person in society is heavily based on many factors. To Durkheim society can function
either under mechanical solidarity or organic solidarity under the forced division of labor and
depending on which it functions as aids in giving us a deeper understanding of the person and their
role as an individual in society. In his writings Elementary Forms of Religious Life he claims that each
individual carries the whole in himself but to understand his beliefs an understanding of the individual
and society within his writings Elementary Forms Of Religious Life and Devision of Labor will be
beneficial (Durkheim, pg. 226). By looking at the individual, through the lens of his writings
Elementary Forms Of Religious Life and Devision of Labor as building blocks for his theories of
social structure it will aid in explaining why the making of the individual is possible and whether it
conflicts with Durkheim s personal views. When trying to understand the role of the individual and
society through the lens of his writings Elementary Forms of Religious Life and Division of Labor a
few things will need to be established. First of all, when looking through the lens of Elementary Forms
of Religious Life key points differ from Devision of Labor . For example Elementary Forms of
Religious Life sets to explain the studying of primitive culture/religion to

Essay about Role Reversal in King Lear
Role Reversal in King Lear
King Lear, known as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies, deeply affects its audience by playing
out the destruction of two families. At the end of this play two of the protagonists, King Lear and his
loyal friend the Earl of Gloucester, die after having suffered through major injustices at the hands of
their own children. These characters deaths are incredibly tragic because they are brought on by their
own actions instead of by the circumstances that surround them. Lear and Gloucester are not bad men
but rather good men that make the fatal mistake of not acting according to their positions in life. In
doing so, they ultimately force their children, Cordelia and Edgar respectively, to take on ... Show

In the 1985 production of this play starring Lawrence Olivier, Lear enters the opening scene lovingly
arm in arm with Cordelia. He then sits on his throne and has a large map of his kingdom spread out on
the floor before him. When he utters the words in 1.1.155, he unceremoniously throws his crown onto
the ground in the middle of the map. I thought this was excellent stage direction because in this one
movement he sets the tone for the problems that will come as a result of his unthinking action.
Much like Lear, Gloucester opens the play by shunning his role that of a father. He embarrasses his
illegitimate son, Edmund, when he says to Kent I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now
I am brazed to t (1.1.10 11). He then goes on to minimize his affection for his legitimate son, Edgar,
by saying that he . . . is no dearer in my account (1.1.20 21). A father has two choices regarding a child
conceived through an affair; he can either deny the child s existence or accept the child into his family
as one of his own. Gloucester lamely attempts both with Edmund. In addition, his comment about
Edgar send a mixed message regarding the son he considers his heir. In the Olivier version of this
play, the stage direction has Edmund standing nearby while Gloucester converses with Kent. When
Gloucester speaks the words in 1.1.10 11, he throws his arm around Edmund s shoulder and
laughingly taps him on the chest. The stage direction here works well because the

Domestic Violence Related Crime Throughout West Virginia
Domestic violence is a universal problem that can affect an individual of any age, gender, race,
education level, social class, or culture. This type of violence is considered to be one of the most
widespread public health crises in the United States (Black et al., 2011). The purpose of this essay is to
create a plan for a program that addresses domestic violence related crime in West Virginia. To begin,
significant information in relation to domestic violence will be provided. This will be followed by the
program plan, which will include seven steps: an analysis of the problem, identification of goals and
objectives, development of a program design, development of an action plan, development of a plan to
monitor program effectiveness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although women can be perpetrators, they are more often the victims of abuse than men. According to
Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic violence offenders are
male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the criminal justice system are
overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Data from studies conducted
in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of male abusers have had some type of
previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be noted that this contact includes positive
and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all walks of life, they can be respected law abiding
members of their communities or unpopular individuals with a criminal history. There are no set
standards or explicit personality traits that wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have
identified certain indicators and risk factors that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S.
Department of Justice, 2009).
One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in
domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high correlation
between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Research endorsed by the National
Institute of Justice has established that

Essay On Permian Mass Extinction
The Permian mass extinction, that struck about 250 million years ago, caused a mass extinction of reef
and shallow water communities. Groups that lived on the seafloor and filtered organic material from
the water for nourishment suffered the greatest extinction. Those include corals, shelled in vertebrates,
and a variety of sea lilies. Others marine groups includes trilobites, zooplankton and snails. Even
though these species died in the water, living organisms on land were not much better off. Terrestrial
vertebrates and insects both experienced a big loss in each of their groups. Also suffering a big loss
was the insect family due to the lack of plant life and food. Seventy Eight percent of reptiles became
extinct and sixty seven percent of the amphibian family became extinct during this time period.
The warming of the Earth s climate, the changes of waves in the oceans and the increased amount of
carbon dioxide from volcanic activity and Siberian traps caused this mass extinction. Oxygen on Earth
is essential for all living things to survive on Earth. Without oxygen all living things would parish.
When the carbon dioxide levels rose, the oxygen levels dropped substantially. How do we ... Show

The initial stage was thought to have been a deadly drop in sea level that led to a loss of habitat
stability. The second stage would possibly have been the volcanic eruptions and the release of carbon
dioxide into the air causing oxygen levels to decrease. The final stage would possibly have been the
rise of the sea levels causing massive floods and destroying near shore habitats. Having all of these
three stages at one time would have caused this massive kind of extinction. However, if only one of
these stages had happened this extinction would not have been nearly this massive. Studies show that
even though this mass extinction may have seemed like a fast moving process, it took over a million

To own the Earth, There is no word for this in the Sioux Language. The Battle of Wounded Knee was
the last battle of the American Indian Wars it was also one of the most gruesome battles that either
side had seen. An estimated three hundred Indians lay dead while the US army had lost twenty five
and thirty nine were wounded some of who would die later. This was one of the worst acts that the
Americans have ever done to the Native Americans. One Native American stated later it was as if the
soldiers were crazed by the sight of blood and had appeared wild eyed as they shot again and again

was killed on the fifteenth of December 1890. Sitting Bull became the Leader of the Sioux tribe in his

since 1883. In the fall of 1890 General Nelson A. Miles caught wind of Sitting Bull taking an interest
in the Ghost Dance Religion. He wanted Sitting Bull arrested immediately so just before daylight on

bullet was the one that killed the chief was a sergeant of the Indian Police at Standing Rock named
Red Tomahawk. Before his death Sitting Bull stated I wish it to be remembered that I was the last man

Tattooing Research Papers
Tattooing has become kind of like yoga so hip it is nearly mainstream and as a result tattoo shops and
tattoo artists are popping up all over. While it might be tempting to just buy yourself a tattooing kit
and practice on some friends, that is no way to become a good tattoo artist. Tattooing is an old,
complex art that requires serious study both for good results and for safety.
Here is the typical path a true tattoo artist will take to learn their trade:
1) Have a natural talent for drawing and a love of tattoing
You ve got to have a natural interest in drawing and art, and you ve got to think tattoos are really,
really cool to have enough desire to make it through your training. You should be the kid who s always
carrying a notebook, always drawing, and you should also have gotten at least a few tattoos to be
taken at all seriously. Don t get too many tattoos, though you ll need the blank space for later.
2) Build a great portfolio
Take all that natural artistic ability and put together a killer portfolio. Study drawing and anatomy like
any real artist would, and preferably get yourself at least a certificate in drawing and art, if not a full
blown undergraduate degree. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

tattoo master you pick. To have any chance of getting noticed by the kind of tattoo master that s worth
studying under you will need an impressive portfolio and an in depth knowledge of tattooing
techniques and history (from books or talking to people in the industry). Getting certified in health
issues like sterilization and blood borne pathogens will help your chances. You will probably also
want to get a tattoo from the master you are considering before you formally apply for an
apprenticeship. Consider your tattoo part of the interview process and pay super close attention to how

In my opinion, I think that it should be less like a minimum of $80 because there is some families or
people who don t even have that money themselves. There s some families who work and get paid less
than $600 and it s going to be an enormous struggle or them. Furthermore, this law will decrease
crime. People will be less likely to commit a crime and hurt other people when they know someone
will report it. Many people argue that individual freedom in the country would be stripped away by
the law you still have your freedom, but all we are asking is that you help one another when you come

Rhetorical Analysis Of Holes Then Watching The Film ...
Holes Persuasive Essay
After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can
without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel
to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. When I
watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure and the
entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute to why I
believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes .
Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was
descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing
focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene realistically.
Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to its lack of
emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to life engaged
audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience using drama,
realism and passion.
The first example of a scene that is represented better in the film than compared to the novel, is when
Hector Zeroni runs away from the camp. In the novel, while the boys are digging holes, Hector is
involved in a fight with ZigZag after ZigZag threatens Stanley. During the

The Geography Of Chicken Soup
The focus of this assignment is on the geography of chicken soup. For purposes of this particular
assignment, the claimed country of origin in Cuba. The reason the term claimed is used is due to the
fact that this particular dish may be believed to have originated in many other countries as well. As
such, the recipe, and more specifically the ingredients used, will most likely differ based upon the
country and region that it is originated from. With regard to the Cuban version of chicken soup, the
same is comprised of thirteen (13) ingredients, to wit: olive (oil); onion (red and green); cilantro;
cumin (ground); wheat (flour); chicken (stock and thigh); cassava; calabash; potato (red); plantain;
lemon (juice); salt; and, pepper. Notwithstanding the fact that these ingredients are customarily used to
make the Cuban version of chicken soup, these same ingredients were not all domesticated in the
region that Cuba is located in. For example, Cuba is located in the Caribbean region. Out of the
thirteen (13) ingredients mentioned, only one ingredient is native to said region calabash.
Furthermore, as the case with other Caribbean countries, calabash is said to be native and common in
the wild in Cuba, Puerto Rico, [and] the Dominican Republic.... (Morton, 1987, p. 334 335). As such,
statistically, only 7.7% of the total ingredients used in this recipe of chicken soup is native to the
country of origin (i.e. Cuba). Further, 23.1% of the total ingredients was

The Importance Of Industrialization
The early 19th century was a time of technological innovations that took the United States to a new
level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the telegraph
were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the nation continued
to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have taken months to
transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise cross country in just a
few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need for the pony express.
Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it all for the best? Were
sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people to
succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family. Children
worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel
Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery
and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young
women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would
leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to
protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with
thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room.
Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet
Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms
they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than
slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory
owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because
not all factories were on the same schedule.

Comparison Of Oliver Cromwell And The New Model Army
Oliver Cromwell and the New Model Army utilized advanced and brutal tactics alike to have great
success in battle as well as intimidating their enemies. Cromwell and the New Model Army had many
different technologies at their disposable throughout the campaign in Ireland. They had infantry,
cavalry, and artillery. The New Model Army was well versed in the use of each unit they had;
depending on the battle they faced they would only bring what was needed. At Drogheda they ensured
that they had access to advanced artillery in order to break through the towns defense and eliminate
some resistance. Later on in the fighting they would leave the artillery behind because it could hinder
progress. Cromwell seized the strategic initiative from the outset, departing ... Show more content on

What Is Tuckman s Five Stage Theory Of Group Development
Our group had members from different educational backgrounds, place of origin, work experience etc.
This diversity helped us in getting new and different perspectives about the issues and possible

a) Forming:
In the forming stage, the group is formed and the group members try to get to know each other and
figure out how they are going to function. At this stage there is discomfort due to unfamiliarity

development to have a clear objective, define goals, and plan how the team will achieve their tasks. In
my previous groups in 1st term, there was some discomfort and confusion, I think, primarily due to
the fact that we did not know each other well and did not have clear goals and an understanding of
how we would function together as a team. But in the GDTB group, some of us had already worked

`` Long Day s Journey Into Night `` By Eugene O Neill
The tragedy is part of many plays, and Long Day Journey into Night is no different. The author
Eugene O Neill captures this in his play published in 1956. A semi autobiographical play the author
focuses on a family of four, which is the Tyrone family, where their mother Mary is a morphine addict,
while her son Edmund is suffering from tuberculosis. Many families try to hide and cover addictions
as part of protecting their family name and image. In the play, Long Day s Journey into Night ,
Eugene O Neill exposes the Tyrone family as reluctant, bitter, and naive, all which correlate to the
dysfunctional family that they are. James who is the father and Jamie, the alcoholic son suspect a
relapse, which made Mary start abusing drugs again. Despite this, their determination is not to engage
in any hostilities that might upset her, as she they think this will further affect her ability to handle
things. Under such circumstances, feelings of sadness and guilt engulf them, as they do not want to
confront her as they love her, but they know at some point she will need help. In fact, the first chapter
of the book is like walking on egg shells. In the play, there are two main tragedies surrounding the
family, which is the addiction and illness in the household. To bring out the addiction, O Neill shows
Mary as a troubled woman, who needs Morphine to cope with life challenges and demands. As her
family is well aware of the issues she faces with her addiction, they do not show

the debate that came along with it. Kaepernick is a supporter and activist for Black Lives Matter

Innovation In Ww1
Tanks
Jack Elmes
How did tank innovation impact warfare and the soldiers who fought in the trenches during World War
One?
World War One was known as the First World War or The Great War. It began on the 28th of July
1914 and lasted until the 11th of November 1918. Thirty countries were involved in the war. Over nine
million soldiers died and twenty one million were wounded. Undeniably World War One was one of
the biggest and most devastating wars in history. Trench warfare took those who signed up by
complete surprise. A war that was intended to be all about movement became stagnant. Soldiers were
very much stuck in the trenches and experienced horrendous conditions. As a result the use of
terrifying new technologies not used before were created in a response to the conditions of trench
warfare. This resulted in trench warfare being changed forever due to the introduction of the tank in

The tank was the first armored machine to be used. It was adapted from tractors and its goal was to
break through the heavily fortified trenches and offer protection to the troops from any artillery fire.
British engineering was the origin of the first WW1 Landship , which became the tank as we now
know it. Tanks were a very important part of WW1 as they increased mobility on the front line and
broke the stalemate of trench warfare. The first tank ever used in military conflict was at the battle of
Flers Courcelette in September 1916. The first prototype tank came out in 1915 by the British it was
called little Willie, weighed 14 tons and could only travel at two miles per hour. This tank was not
used in warfare. Big Bertha was the most famous tank it had a 48 ton gun capable of firing a shell over
9 miles. It took 200 men several hours to assemble the gun.

The Causes And Effects Of Marijuana
According to the United Nations, 158.8 million people around the world use marijuana that is more
than 3.8% of the planet s population (Marijuana statistics, 2017). These statistics indicate that
marijuana is frequently being used around the world without people knowing its positive and negative
effects. Marijuana is one of the most abused drugs in the world. There is an ever growing gap between
the latest science about marijuana and the myths surrounding it (drug facts, marijuana). A lot of people
around the world are still ignorant about marijuana and its uses. They do not even know about its
existence. Marijuana is a slow poison that deteriorates the body and the person consuming it loses the
ability to think about his own welfare. When a person loses the ability to think, that is when his
downfall starts. There are effective uses of marijuana, yet there are also serious issues that should be
considered and therefore, all this leads us to research more deeply into this matter and make all
possible efforts to understand the causes and effect of marijuana more effectively.
Marijuana can lead to a lot of genetic damage to our human body which can further result in other
ailments. Based on the results of an experimental study published in the journal Chemical Research in
Toxicology (2009), investigators reported that carcinogenic potential of marijuana is attributed to
compounds like acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde can change the structure of DNA in our body which can

Alpha-Beta Exercise Hr595 Essay
Journal Entry 3 Alpha Beta Exercise Beta Group BACKGROUND The name of this negotiation
exercise is ALPHA BETA. The goal of this negotiation is to stay within character and gain as much
information from the other side as possible. The uncertainties confronted were how to lead the
negotiation as a Betan. The skills that we will try to exhibit are trying to embody the style and culture
of the Betans. Our opponents, Alpha Inc., were prepared with their demands. They seemed to have
researched our culture and were not susceptible to them. We did not reach a settlement, our goal was
to remain in character and gather as much information as possible. ANALYSIS Our BATNA for this

The face saving behavior that was displayed was when we offered to pay for a limo and hotel for
Alpha so that we have more time. POST NEGOTIATION REFLECTION In this negotiation, we
learned that it is important to research your opponent, to understand their culture, not only of their
country or backgrounds, but also their company culture. When we are able to understand our opponent
s way of thinking about business and doing business we can then understand how to approach a
negotiation situation with them. In this exercise, we learned that it is difficult for us to adjust when it
involves breaking or acting in a way opposite of what we are accustomed to. We also learned that
although my classmates live in the same country as we do, their upbringings may have similarities to
their origin country and will therefore help them to communicate and adjust to that country s norms
and standards. We were surprised how we were able to stay in character although it was hard and it
was surprising how people responded when they were unaware of your intentions and strategies. If we
had to do this exercise again, what we can do is do more research on our opponents so that we would
have an idea of what to expect in the negotiation table. LAST ENTRY By taking this course, we have
learned the different types of negotiations and the strategies to be used in

Cesar Chavez started his excerpt by defining the power of nonviolence and how it portrayed
throughout Dr. King s life. While Caesars compares and contrast the power of nonviolence to violence
he use rhetorical device such repetition ,diction and tone. Which shows how Cesar Chavez literary
devices help him drive his argument to a nonviolent resistance.
Throughout the excerpt Chavez uses repetition to differences the we from the those he portrays the we

Investigating The Relationship Between Ph And Water Hardness
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relationship between pH and water hardness.
Water samples from above the Mount Morgan mine site and below the Mount Morgan mine site were
also compared.
8.1 Analysis of the Data
It was hypothesised that the water sample from above the mine site would be of better water quality
than the sample from below the mine site. It was found that this was, in fact, the case. As seen in Table
7.2, the above sample had lower acidity, hardness and conductivity than the below sample.
Given that acidity is indicated by a pH of below 7, the below mine water sample was considered
acidic, at a pH of 4.92. Conversely, the above mine site sample had a pH of 7.35, indicating an almost
neutral profile.
The above mine sample had a conductivity of 2200 µS/cm, whereas the below mine sample had a
conductivity of 7500 µS/cm. This suggests that there are a significantly greater number of ions in
solution in below mine water than above mine water.
The below mine sample also had greater water hardness, with a calcium ion concentration of 5183.29
mg/L, compared with the above mine sample s hardness of only 115.02 mg/L.
The above mine water mostly exhibited water quality parameter values that aligned with the water
quality guidelines for fresh water. With an almost neutral pH of 7.35, meaning it is within the
recommended pH range of 6.8 9.5 and is also safe for consumption. The hardness (concentration of
calcium ions) of 115.02 mg/L also lies

The Ethics Of The Criminal Justice System
As the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. It is easy to look back on the history of criminal justice and
scoff at the sometimes crude and barbaric methods of correcting criminal behavior. From speaking to
village elders to burning those who were deemed witches, human kind s endeavor to seek out and
punish bad behavior has been littered with what many could consider to be downright silly behavior.
Luckily though, all of that is in the past now, with our society and criminal justice system moving in a
scientific direction more so every single day. But is it really?
While many areas of criminal justice that seek out the truth have been enhanced by our growth in
technology, there still remains one discipline that has been praised by some and ... Show more content

It was not until the father of criminology, Cesare Lombrosso attempted to measure blood pressure to
detect lies in the late 1800 s that the modern polygraph s roots can be seen (Lewis Cuppari, 2009).
Soon after in the early 1900s, Vittorio Benussi expanded on Lombrosso s idea and included breathing
rate and pulse in the detection of lies. He even had a range of changes that constituted lies called the
Benussi ratio (Grubin Madsen, 2005). The foundation for the modern day polygraph had been laid,
and the controversy was about to begin.
The basic principle behind the physical responses to lying were narrowed down to skin conductance,
blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration (Lewis Cuppari, 2009). In short, psychologists believed that
a lie would cause at least one of these things to change, if only for a brief moment. John Larson and
Leonarde Keele put these variables all together and devised a machine that would measure and graph
all of these things in real time, aptly named the polygraph (Lewis Cuppari, 2009).
These measurements mean nothing on their own, however. This research paper will dive deeper into
the overall interview process, but the polygraph test itself typically consists of two main types of
questions: control questions and relevant questions. Control questions are basic questions with easy
answers, used to determine a baseline and even to embarrass the subject in order to measure how they
react to such questions. Relevant

Examples Of Motives In The Crucible
In the play, The Crucible [New York: Penguin Group. 2003] by Arthur Miller, the mass hysteria of the
witch trials begins with a game in the woods and quickly grows to unbelievable proportion in an
atmosphere of ignorance and superstition. In this small, closed community, the hysteria is fed by
hidden personal motives including self preservation, fear, jealousy, envy, and revenge which when
unchecked and unquestioned, bring tragic consequences. Fear and self preservation are strong
motives, and these motives provide the origin of the witch trial in this play. When Reverend Parris

Besides the motives already mentioned on the part of Abigail for making accusations of witchcraft is
revenge. Abigail has been dismissed as a maid by Elizabeth. Abigail is angry and humiliated by this
and seeks to get revenge with her false accusations which are believed by the community. Others also
find opportunities to exact revenge on their neighbors. Among the victims is Sarah Good who is not
totally accepted by the community. Since she is disliked, it is believable to the community that she has
cursed their animals (44). Another victim is Goody Osburn who is accused by the Putnams. They
maintain that as their midwife, she has caused the death of Mrs. Putnam s babies (44). Goody Osburn
is very poor and held in low esteem so there is no one to support her, making it easy to accuse and
arrest her. Another example of revenge is based on the hatred between Thomas Putnam and Francis
Nurse. The Putnams and Nurses have been fighting over land for some time, and this has caused hard
feelings. As Giles says, Putnam accuses people who have land and would have them killed to get it
(89). Additionally, Putnam is upset with Nurse because Nurse has opposed Putnam s choice for
minister. The Putnams see the opportunity to get revenge by Mrs. Putnam s accusation of Rebecca
Nurse of the supernatural murder of their babies. This results in Rebecca s arrest and a chance for the
Putnam s to acquire land. All of these

Law is a major factor that Durkheim basis a lot off. A sort of symbolism and order to social life two
types of law can be observed. Repressive law (punishing the guilty) and Restitutive law (restoring

as the deregulation that was occurring society. He sheds the light on how people were supposed to act
with each other were breaking down and at a time didn t know what to except from each other. Anomy
literally translates the state or condition of individuals or society characterized by a breakdown or
absence of social norms and values (dictionary.com.) . Max Weber in 1922 writes Bureaucracy , where
weber believed that structured organizations is a formal, rigid authoritative figure, whereas Weber was
referring to the types of businesses that ran their organization like a family type, informal structure. He
believed that those in a managerial position should be appointed due to their levels of professionalism
and expertise. The principle of office hierarchy and of channels of appeal stipulate a clearly
established system if super and subordination in which there is a supervision of the lower offices by
the higher ones (Weber 2007: p.265). Weber explains in his writings that the old ways such as
feudalism in his time should be done away with, and that society changes their structure to a more
organization of hierarchical principle. For

Reaction Paper On Cholesterol
Essay 18: Cholesterol Explained
At this point in time, the word cholesterol has a decidedly negative connotation, conjuring up images
of gallstones, heart attacks, and strokes. Although excess cholesterol often plays a role in these disease
states, that is only part of the story. This article will focus on what cholesterol is and why the human
body needs a certain amount of it to function properly. Cholesterol is a small, hydrophobic molecule
composed almost entirely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. The 27 carbon atoms in cholesterol are all
derived from the molecule acetyl CoA (coenzyme A), synthesized from the breakdown of amino acids,
sugars, and fats. Acetyl CoA is often channeled into the Krebs cycle in order to harvest its chemical
energy; however, it is also used as the initial compound in many biosynthetic pathways. ... Show more

turning HMG CoA into mevalonic acid. From there, a series of enzymes converts mevalonic acid into
squalene, a linear intermediate which folds to yield the four ringed structure of cholesterol. Almost all
cholesterol synthesis occurs in the liver, mainly because the liver is also the site of bile acid
production. In adults, the liver produces enough cholesterol to meet the body s needs. Dietary
cholesterol comes in the form of dairy products, eggs, red meat, and

“No One Knowingly Does Evil” by Socrates. Essay
The argument which I am focusing on is titled No One Knowingly Does Evil and is written by
Socrates. This argument concludes that those who do evil things do them involuntarily. That is, people
do not necessarily want to do evil things, but do them against their will. A very important point is
presented by Socrates in that evil deeds are not done willingly. It is thought by many that some people
are simply evil natured and commit evil deeds because they want to. However, Socrates is arguing that
this is not true. By doing this, he is going against common thought and presenting a very debatable
conclusion. I will evaluate the argument so as to prove it is a legitimate possibility for the conclusion
to be true. It will be shown why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the key to this statement being false is the word all. Sometimes, people want to cause harm to
someone else in order to get back at them or to serve justice. If they think they are justified, that
person would be more willing to commit an evil act. The second premise, in my opinion, is true. I do
not think that a person, without outside influence, would simply do something which they do not want
to. If it is not something a person wants to do, chances are it won t be done. Therefore, I think this
premise is true. When evaluating the entire argument as a whole, I determined it to be valid. It is
logical to move from premise one to premise two and develop the provided conclusion. Even though I
believe premise one to be false, the argument is still valid. This is because, if it were true, it would
make sense to draw that conclusion from those two statements. The conclusion does not present any
new information not given in the premises either. The argument automatically becomes unsound
because premise one is false. It is impossible for the argument to be sound by definition.
I believe one objection would be that in certain circumstances there are dire needs. That is, someone
would do an evil deed because it was absolutely necessary. For example, if a family had been
kidnapped, there would be everything done in order to bring them home safely, even if some of it
involved a form of evil. This

American History X By Tony Kaye And Written By David Mckenna
American History X Almost one week before I started to take this class, I watched American History
X for the first time. When I learned we are going to do this project, this movie was on my mind and I
did not surprise at all when I saw it in our movie list. Since the beginning of the semester, everything
related to multiculturalism in this movie is becoming clearer to me. Multiculturalism is a huge issue,
especially the country like the US which has many different races. One of the first things I learned
about multiculturalism is; it can be both negative or positive ways. If the different races do not accept
each other, it can be interpreted in a negative way. This movie is a great example of showing the
negative way of the multiculturalism. I see a really big conflict between races in the movie. American
History X is a 1998 American crime drama film which directed by Tony Kaye and written by David
McKenna. Edward Norton is the lead actor as Derek. Even though he is one of my favorite actors, I
never had a chance to watch this movie before. After I watched his tremendous performance in this
movie, I understand why the Academy nominated him the second time for the best actor award. One
interesting fact about the movie, even though it is about multicultural issues in the US, we see
everything from a white point of view. As a result, Academy chooses a white actor as nominee for the
award as usual. It is just so interesting to me. The story of the movie is about two

Consequences of Disrupting Biological Rhythms (A2...
Critically consider the consequences of disrupting biological rhythms (24)
A rhythm is something that is regularly repeated. All living organisms experience rhythmic changes
which tend to coincide with seasonal or daily environmental changes. Most organisms have an internal
biological clock called endogenous pacemakers, which are influences by external environmental
factors called exogenous zeitgebers, these control periodic changes. The sleep wake cycle is a
circadian rhythm that repeats itself every 24 hours. However these can become desynchronised,
resulting in a disruption of your biological rhythm. It can be disrupted by many factors, including Jet
lag and shift work.

But what the study does not take into consideration is the fact that the east coast team could just be
genuinely better than the west coast team, and that is the reason they win, and not because of jetlag
and the direction they travel. But this study does have ecological validity due to them being real
teams, and it not being in laboratory conditions, making the results more valid and generalizable
outside of the study. It also supports Klein, Wegman and Hunts findings that westbound flights are
easier to adjust to.
However chlo (2001) found a reduction in temporal lobe size and memory function in air crew who
regularly flew over seven different time zones. This looks at a more biological approach as it
challenges the views that jetlag is psychological as it shows organic structural changes and cognitive
reduction.
Stewart et al found that rats who have been emotionally stressed are not as good at resetting their
innate clocks using light as the zeitgeber, as rats that have not been emotionally stressed. This shows
that stress can make the SCN less responsive to light. This could explain why some people
experiences jetlag and others do not, as those who do may find flying stressful. However this study
lacks validity as rats have a different physiological makeup to humans, meaning the results found
from rats cannot be generalised to humans and how they behave.

Vocation
People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they
exel. Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many
options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make
are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being
unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is,

McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in civic
responsibility ) and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the
language to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired. In
sum, McCarthy s discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His
approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn
frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker
who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more
meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a
vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right
vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal
desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing
a path. An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for
justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers.

Four Inter-Family Influences Of The Indo Aryan Language
Hence if we look at all the Indo Aryan languages, one aspect if quite clear is that they are all
derivatives of Sanskrit (Sebeok, 1963) which in turn have their roots set in Greek and Latin and made
its way into Indian soil via the Indo Europeans (Sebeok, 1963). Out of all these Indo Aryan languages,
Hindi is considered to be the most progressive, as it is the most analytical followed by Punjabi,
Gujarati, Sindhi, Marathi, Bengali, and Oriya (Sebeok, 1963).
2.2.4 Inter Family Influences
No languages can be given the title of pure language being devoid of any form of influence or mix
from languages belonging to their neighbouring boundaries or languages it might have come in
contact within the course of time. With the number of language families existing in the same soil over
the number of years, there is bound to be influences of one on another. For example, the Indo Aryan
languages have quite a few Non Indo Aryan borrowings (Bagchi, Levi and Bloch, 1929). It must be
remembered that the Aryans had come into the Indian soil after the Dravidians and Tibeto Burma
family already residing in the North western regions of India. It is seen that the ancient Indo Aryan
language Sanskrit has strand of Pre Aryan languages namely, the Dravidian and Munda language
(Sebeok, 1963). While the Tibeto Burma influence is said to have come in while the Aryans were
coming in from the Northern boundaries of India. Aryans were coming in from a temperate region into

Aquinas Five Proofs
Alex Gay
Aaron Schultz
7/30/16
Critical Response: Aquinas Summa Theologiae The existence of a higher being or a god is a concept
that has endured for thousands of years. Religious teachings help people to cope with our own
mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct
establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing definitively
of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his time and he
created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence. Aquinas first proof is an argument of
motion. He believes that all motion is caused by a proceeding force. Because of this belief, he thinks
there can only be one possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the unmoved.
Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating motion, how is
it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has been definitively
disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this mass singularity.
Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the first mover. It is also
important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion, there are inherently
issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being the initial source of
causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they might argue that God
was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what started the universe. The
belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared also contradicts itself. If
everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are measures comparative of god,
that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel. If God is the sole creator and the
cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in this world. And since we are taught
that God is the embodiment of good and right, the idea that he is also bad would contradict many
facets of our

should have equal pay. If this is true, I think that Job B should have a higher pay. This means that Job
A does not lose any pay because that there are more applicants, but that Job B has more alluring pay to
get more applicants. If this tactic is taken, the action does not benefit one at the expense of another.
This action would also follow the Golden Rule . If I was the manager, I would feel comfortable
making this action public. This shows transparency in the company, which is good externally and
internally. In this situation, we are paying for the job and not the person doing that job. That being

these plans of action are fair and a standard for this situation.

such programs. So if the company can afford to have them, it is a huge benefit to the employees to
retain the programs. There should be an option to opt out of the programs in exchange for some other

9. I think it is unfair to require employees to donate or volunteer on their own time. A better way to
handle this situation is to have a company lead fundraiser for United Way. Another option could be
giving paid days/ hours off to employees that volunteer their time. Making employee give their time

Ancient Solar Architecture Essay
Ancient Solar Architecture
Passive solar design and architecture may seem like a distant dream in our fast paced modern world,
but in reality it s more of a modern revival of a style of energy efficient building that has been around
for millennia. What once seemed to be common sense ideas for designing a house that could both
keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter has somehow been forgotten since we started to
overuse the planet s resources on our own comforts. When heating a house took lots of effort it was
the wise choice to design a building that could use the energy provided by the sun in the most
advantageous ways. Unfortunately, in my opinion, since all we have to do now to heat our house is a

Not only is it the actual building either that needs to be thought about, but also the shape, style and
location of the external features that can be used for shading and other purposes. Again, this is not a
new idea. In 1 B.C., Vitruvius, the chief architect of the Roman Empire said, We must begin by taking
note of the climate in which buildings are to be built if our designs for them are to be correct . One
type building seems appropriate for Egypt, another for Spain, one still different for Rome, and so on
with lands and countries of varying characteristics. Some civilizations even used solar architecture for
purposes other than for heat. The Egyptian pyramids were able to oriented to track the position of the
sun. There were many temples that had shafts that could be opened on certain days like the solstice to
allow light beams down to an altar . This is very impressive considering that the exact angles of the
sun s rays had to be calculated and then the shafts had to be accurately constructed in order to perform
as designed. This principle also demonstrates how solar architecture doesn t have to be entirely for
heating and cooling. The design of solar homes can be very pleasing to the occupants. They are often
more open and well lighted, and they give the feel of being more connected to nature since the house
actually changes as the outside world changes.

Mark Twain s Cannibalism In The Cars
Mark Twain is one of Americas most humorous writers, stories of his such as; How To Tell a Story
(Source A) and Cannibalism In the Cars (Source B) are both great examples of how he creates such
humor in his writing. Twain uses a wide variety of devices in his stories, such as apostrophe,
hypophora, and personification. Here are some examples of how Twain integrates these devices into
his writing, and how they create such a humorous effect. In the short story Cannibalism In the Cars ,
Twain describes a group of politicians that are trapped inside a train. As the story progresses, they eat
each other off one by one, symbolizing how men in high power resort to eating each other alive rather
than find a solution that could save them all. To go along with this satirical piece, Twain throws in
some well played rhetorical devices as well; one of such being personification. Twain describes how
the snow starts piling up and how it ...extended its depressing influence over every spirit (Source B),
until eventually ...every soul leaped (Source B). This device goes hand in hand with Twains rule that a
humorous story is told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After several days without food on the train, the men become ravishingly hungry, until one brave soul
asks the audience which of us shall die to furnish food for the rest! (Source B). With this question,
another question emerges. The reader might ask what does he mean by that? or wonder if he means
who will go out and find food for the rest . Even when the speaker describes something Lean , Tough
along with the speaker saying he was very tough (Source B). This also brings the reader to ask what
the speaker means by that. From this device, Twain is able to string incongruities and absurdities
together (Source A), without giving anything away. This device brings up questions the next device

Cell Phones And Health Risks
During my recent searches on this particular subject, I across interesting studies regarding cell phones
and health risks. Cell phones have changed drastically from 20 years ago to present. When phones
first came out they were only in our homes, I recall when I was younger we would go places and
wouldn t have a cell phone to call or text, to let your family know your location, unlike today. In the
early 90 s, the bag phone was introduced to the public. These phones were a big deal when they first
came out, you would plug them into your cigarette lighter. When you would call someone it took a bit
for it to go through but once the call went through you could hear someone on the other line. When
you got done with the call you would hang up and once you got home you would zip the phone up and
carry it inside. As a kid, this was very interesting. The cordless cell phones were quickly developed. If
you had a cordless cell phone you were cool. When the cell phones first came out, your options were
limited. At the time talking was the only option available, more options were available; text, check
email, and facebook. The more technology rise; the more you can do on your phones, from skype to
google and even ask your phone questions and it will answer back. When I did recent research I found
that the studies have become more about what the cell phones are doing to people and their health. In
this essay you will learn that throughout history, Scientists have done studies to find that

  • 3. Elementary Forms Of Religious Life In his theory of how society and the individual coincide with each other Emile Durkheim believes that the role of the person in society is heavily based on many factors. To Durkheim society can function either under mechanical solidarity or organic solidarity under the forced division of labor and depending on which it functions as aids in giving us a deeper understanding of the person and their role as an individual in society. In his writings Elementary Forms of Religious Life he claims that each individual carries the whole in himself but to understand his beliefs an understanding of the individual and society within his writings Elementary Forms Of Religious Life and Devision of Labor will be beneficial (Durkheim, pg. 226). By looking at the individual, through the lens of his writings Elementary Forms Of Religious Life and Devision of Labor as building blocks for his theories of social structure it will aid in explaining why the making of the individual is possible and whether it conflicts with Durkheim s personal views. When trying to understand the role of the individual and society through the lens of his writings Elementary Forms of Religious Life and Division of Labor a few things will need to be established. First of all, when looking through the lens of Elementary Forms of Religious Life key points differ from Devision of Labor . • 4. Essay about Role Reversal in King Lear Role Reversal in King Lear King Lear, known as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies, deeply affects its audience by playing out the destruction of two families. At the end of this play two of the protagonists, King Lear and his loyal friend the Earl of Gloucester, die after having suffered through major injustices at the hands of their own children. These characters deaths are incredibly tragic because they are brought on by their own actions instead of by the circumstances that surround them. Lear and Gloucester are not bad men but rather good men that make the fatal mistake of not acting according to their positions in life. In doing so, they ultimately force their children, Cordelia and Edgar respectively, to take on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1985 production of this play starring Lawrence Olivier, Lear enters the opening scene lovingly arm in arm with Cordelia. He then sits on his throne and has a large map of his kingdom spread out on the floor before him. When he utters the words in 1.1.155, he unceremoniously throws his crown onto the ground in the middle of the map. I thought this was excellent stage direction because in this one movement he sets the tone for the problems that will come as a result of his unthinking action. Much like Lear, Gloucester opens the play by shunning his role that of a father. He embarrasses his illegitimate son, Edmund, when he says to Kent I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now I am brazed to t (1.1.10 11). He then goes on to minimize his affection for his legitimate son, Edgar, by saying that he . . . is no dearer in my account (1.1.20 21). A father has two choices regarding a child conceived through an affair; he can either deny the child s existence or accept the child into his family as one of his own. Gloucester lamely attempts both with Edmund. In addition, his comment about Edgar send a mixed message regarding the son he considers his heir. In the Olivier version of this play, the stage direction has Edmund standing nearby while Gloucester converses with Kent. When Gloucester speaks the words in 1.1.10 11, he throws his arm around Edmund s shoulder and laughingly taps him on the chest. The stage direction here works well because the ... Domestic Violence Related Crime Throughout West Virginia Domestic violence is a universal problem that can affect an individual of any age, gender, race, education level, social class, or culture. This type of violence is considered to be one of the most widespread public health crises in the United States (Black et al., 2011). The purpose of this essay is to create a plan for a program that addresses domestic violence related crime in West Virginia. According to Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic violence offenders are male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the criminal justice system are overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Data from studies conducted in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of male abusers have had some type of previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be noted that this contact includes positive and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all walks of life, they can be respected law abiding members of their communities or unpopular individuals with a criminal history. There are no set standards or explicit personality traits that wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have identified certain indicators and risk factors that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009). One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high correlation between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Groups that lived on the seafloor and filtered organic material from the water for nourishment suffered the greatest extinction. Those include corals, shelled in vertebrates, and a variety of sea lilies. Others marine groups includes trilobites, zooplankton and snails. Even though these species died in the water, living organisms on land were not much better off. Terrestrial vertebrates and insects both experienced a big loss in each of their groups. Also suffering a big loss was the insect family due to the lack of plant life and food. Seventy Eight percent of reptiles became extinct and sixty seven percent of the amphibian family became extinct during this time period. The warming of the Earth s climate, the changes of waves in the oceans and the increased amount of carbon dioxide from volcanic activity and Siberian traps caused this mass extinction. Holes Persuasive Essay After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. When I watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure and the entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute to why I believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes . Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene realistically. Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to its lack of emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to life engaged audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience using drama, realism and passion. Since the children were small they could get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. Water samples from above the Mount Morgan mine site and below the Mount Morgan mine site were also compared. 8.1 Analysis of the Data It was hypothesised that the water sample from above the mine site would be of better water quality than the sample from below the mine site. It was found that this was, in fact, the case. As seen in Table 7.2, the above sample had lower acidity, hardness and conductivity than the below sample. Given that acidity is indicated by a pH of below 7, the below mine water sample was considered acidic, at a pH of 4.92. Conversely, the above mine site sample had a pH of 7.35, indicating an almost neutral profile. The above mine sample had a conductivity of 2200 µS/cm, whereas the below mine sample had a conductivity of 7500 µS/cm. This suggests that there are a significantly greater number of ions in solution in below mine water than above mine water. The below mine sample also had greater water hardness, with a calcium ion concentration of 5183.29 mg/L, compared with the above mine sample s hardness of only 115.02 mg/L. The above mine water mostly exhibited water quality parameter values that aligned with the water quality guidelines for fresh water. With an almost neutral pH of 7.35, meaning it is within the recommended pH range of 6.8 9.5 and is also safe for consumption. The hardness (concentration of calcium ions) of 115.02 mg/L also lies ... • 26. The Ethics Of The Criminal Justice System As the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. It is easy to look back on the history of criminal justice and scoff at the sometimes crude and barbaric methods of correcting criminal behavior. From speaking to village elders to burning those who were deemed witches, human kind s endeavor to seek out and punish bad behavior has been littered with what many could consider to be downright silly behavior. Luckily though, all of that is in the past now, with our society and criminal justice system moving in a scientific direction more so every single day. But is it really? While many areas of criminal justice that seek out the truth have been enhanced by our growth in technology, there still remains one discipline that has been praised by some and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was not until the father of criminology, Cesare Lombrosso attempted to measure blood pressure to detect lies in the late 1800 s that the modern polygraph s roots can be seen (Lewis Cuppari, 2009). Soon after in the early 1900s, Vittorio Benussi expanded on Lombrosso s idea and included breathing rate and pulse in the detection of lies. He even had a range of changes that constituted lies called the Benussi ratio (Grubin Madsen, 2005). The foundation for the modern day polygraph had been laid, and the controversy was about to begin. The basic principle behind the physical responses to lying were narrowed down to skin conductance, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration (Lewis Cuppari, 2009). In short, psychologists believed that a lie would cause at least one of these things to change, if only for a brief moment. John Larson and Leonarde Keele put these variables all together and devised a machine that would measure and graph all of these things in real time, aptly named the polygraph (Lewis Cuppari, 2009). These measurements mean nothing on their own, however. This research paper will dive deeper into the overall interview process, but the polygraph test itself typically consists of two main types of questions: control questions and relevant questions. Control questions are basic questions with easy answers, used to determine a baseline and even to embarrass the subject in order to measure how they react to such questions. Relevant ... • 27. Examples Of Motives In The Crucible In the play, The Crucible [New York: Penguin Group. 2003] by Arthur Miller, the mass hysteria of the witch trials begins with a game in the woods and quickly grows to unbelievable proportion in an atmosphere of ignorance and superstition. In this small, closed community, the hysteria is fed by hidden personal motives including self preservation, fear, jealousy, envy, and revenge which when unchecked and unquestioned, bring tragic consequences. Fear and self preservation are strong motives, and these motives provide the origin of the witch trial in this play. Abigail has been dismissed as a maid by Elizabeth. Abigail is angry and humiliated by this and seeks to get revenge with her false accusations which are believed by the community. Others also find opportunities to exact revenge on their neighbors. Among the victims is Sarah Good who is not totally accepted by the community. Since she is disliked, it is believable to the community that she has cursed their animals (44). Another victim is Goody Osburn who is accused by the Putnams. They maintain that as their midwife, she has caused the death of Mrs. Putnam s babies (44). Goody Osburn is very poor and held in low esteem so there is no one to support her, making it easy to accuse and arrest her. Another example of revenge is based on the hatred between Thomas Putnam and Francis Nurse. The Putnams and Nurses have been fighting over land for some time, and this has caused hard feelings. As Giles says, Putnam accuses people who have land and would have them killed to get it (89). Additionally, Putnam is upset with Nurse because Nurse has opposed Putnam s choice for minister. The Putnams see the opportunity to get revenge by Mrs. Putnam s accusation of Rebecca Nurse of the supernatural murder of their babies. This results in Rebecca s arrest and a chance for the Putnam s to acquire land. All of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reaction Paper On Cholesterol Essay 18: Cholesterol Explained At this point in time, the word cholesterol has a decidedly negative connotation, conjuring up images of gallstones, heart attacks, and strokes. Although excess cholesterol often plays a role in these disease states, that is only part of the story. This article will focus on what cholesterol is and why the human body needs a certain amount of it to function properly. Cholesterol is a small, hydrophobic molecule composed almost entirely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. The 27 carbon atoms in cholesterol are all derived from the molecule acetyl CoA (coenzyme A), synthesized from the breakdown of amino acids, sugars, and fats. Acetyl CoA is often channeled into the Krebs cycle in order to harvest its chemical energy; however, it is also used as the initial compound in many biosynthetic pathways. ... This argument concludes that those who do evil things do them involuntarily. That is, people do not necessarily want to do evil things, but do them against their will. A very important point is presented by Socrates in that evil deeds are not done willingly. It is thought by many that some people are simply evil natured and commit evil deeds because they want to. However, Socrates is arguing that this is not true. By doing this, he is going against common thought and presenting a very debatable conclusion. I will evaluate the argument so as to prove it is a legitimate possibility for the conclusion to be true. It will be shown why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the key to this statement being false is the word all. Sometimes, people want to cause harm to someone else in order to get back at them or to serve justice. If they think they are justified, that person would be more willing to commit an evil act. The second premise, in my opinion, is true. I do not think that a person, without outside influence, would simply do something which they do not want to. If it is not something a person wants to do, chances are it won t be done. Therefore, I think this premise is true. When evaluating the entire argument as a whole, I determined it to be valid. It is logical to move from premise one to premise two and develop the provided conclusion. Even though I believe premise one to be false, the argument is still valid. This is because, if it were true, it would make sense to draw that conclusion from those two statements. The conclusion does not present any new information not given in the premises either. The argument automatically becomes unsound because premise one is false. It is impossible for the argument to be sound by definition. I believe one objection would be that in certain circumstances there are dire needs. That is, someone would do an evil deed because it was absolutely necessary. For example, if a family had been kidnapped, there would be everything done in order to bring them home safely, even if some of it involved a form of evil. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I learned we are going to do this project, this movie was on my mind and I did not surprise at all when I saw it in our movie list. Since the beginning of the semester, everything related to multiculturalism in this movie is becoming clearer to me. Multiculturalism is a huge issue, especially the country like the US which has many different races. One of the first things I learned about multiculturalism is; it can be both negative or positive ways. If the different races do not accept each other, it can be interpreted in a negative way. This movie is a great example of showing the negative way of the multiculturalism. I see a really big conflict between races in the movie. American History X is a 1998 American crime drama film which directed by Tony Kaye and written by David McKenna. Edward Norton is the lead actor as Derek. Even though he is one of my favorite actors, I never had a chance to watch this movie before. After I watched his tremendous performance in this movie, I understand why the Academy nominated him the second time for the best actor award. One interesting fact about the movie, even though it is about multicultural issues in the US, we see everything from a white point of view. As a result, Academy chooses a white actor as nominee for the award as usual. It is just so interesting to me. The story of the movie is about two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All living organisms experience rhythmic changes which tend to coincide with seasonal or daily environmental changes. Most organisms have an internal biological clock called endogenous pacemakers, which are influences by external environmental factors called exogenous zeitgebers, these control periodic changes. The sleep wake cycle is a circadian rhythm that repeats itself every 24 hours. However these can become desynchronised, resulting in a disruption of your biological rhythm. But what the study does not take into consideration is the fact that the east coast team could just be genuinely better than the west coast team, and that is the reason they win, and not because of jetlag and the direction they travel. But this study does have ecological validity due to them being real teams, and it not being in laboratory conditions, making the results more valid and generalizable outside of the study. It also supports Klein, Wegman and Hunts findings that westbound flights are easier to adjust to. However chlo (2001) found a reduction in temporal lobe size and memory function in air crew who regularly flew over seven different time zones. This looks at a more biological approach as it challenges the views that jetlag is psychological as it shows organic structural changes and cognitive reduction. Stewart et al found that rats who have been emotionally stressed are not as good at resetting their innate clocks using light as the zeitgeber, as rats that have not been emotionally stressed. This shows that stress can make the SCN less responsive to light. This could explain why some people experiences jetlag and others do not, as those who do may find flying stressful. However this study lacks validity as rats have a different physiological makeup to humans, meaning the results found from rats cannot be generalised to humans and how they behave. ... He wants his job to have more meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a vocation. Four Inter-Family Influences Of The Indo Aryan Language Hence if we look at all the Indo Aryan languages, one aspect if quite clear is that they are all derivatives of Sanskrit (Sebeok, 1963) which in turn have their roots set in Greek and Latin and made its way into Indian soil via the Indo Europeans (Sebeok, 1963). Out of all these Indo Aryan languages, Hindi is considered to be the most progressive, as it is the most analytical followed by Punjabi, Gujarati, Sindhi, Marathi, Bengali, and Oriya (Sebeok, 1963). 2.2.4 Inter Family Influences No languages can be given the title of pure language being devoid of any form of influence or mix from languages belonging to their neighbouring boundaries or languages it might have come in contact within the course of time. With the number of language families existing in the same soil over the number of years, there is bound to be influences of one on another. It must be remembered that the Aryans had come into the Indian soil after the Dravidians and Tibeto Burma family already residing in the North western regions of India. It is seen that the ancient Indo Aryan language Sanskrit has strand of Pre Aryan languages namely, the Dravidian and Munda language (Sebeok, 1963). Religious teachings help people to cope with our own mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing definitively of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his time and he created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence. Aquinas first proof is an argument of motion. In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the unmoved. Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating motion, how is it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has been definitively disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this mass singularity. Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the first mover. It is also important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion, there are inherently issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being the initial source of causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they might argue that God was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what started the universe. The belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared also contradicts itself. If everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are measures comparative of god, that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel. If God is the sole creator and the cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in this world.
