Holy Thursday by Blake Essay examples
Holy Thursday by Blake In Holy Thursday Blake expresses feelings towards the society around him;
England in the 18th Century, and the emotional, spiritual and moral poverty. He uses the word holy as
he feels people are being sacrilegious to the country and are misusing it s ****. Rich is the adjective
used to describe the countries material things. Fruitful could mean it is an agricultural and productive
place. Another possibility is that it could represent temptation or corruption, like ... Show more

The use of the words bleak and bare used to describe their fields could be a metaphor for their lives.
They see their future as having nothing in it, lifeless and empty. Blake says, their ways are filled with
thorns , he could mean that they cannot escape or that their future has worse things to come. The word
winter creates an image of cold and bleakness, and with the addition of eternal makes it seem as if
their lives have always been like this, and always will be. The significance of sun and rain in the
fourth verse could be that they both are not under man s control; they humble us. Blake could be
saying that if the world were not under man s control, and if the poor people were free from
oppression, poverty would not exist. Poverty is the result of man s own selfishness.
In The Chimney Sweeper and Holy Thursday there are many recurring symbols and themes including
the callous attitude of parents to children. In The Chimney Sweeper the children are referred to as little
black things . Little emphasises the isolation and vulnerability of the child. The child is described as a
black thing among the snow . The snow could represent innocence and purity. The second line has an

Local Revenue Sharing and Competitive Balance
Local Revenue Sharing and Competitive Balance Problem Statement Your textbook shows the
conditions that lead to increased competitive balance with an increase in local revenue sharing. Data
exist on competitive balance and local revenue sharing so you can examine this for yourself. New
local revenue sharing plans were put in place in MLB for the 1995 season and another increase in
revenue sharing was in place for the 2001 season. These changes create a natural experiment for
analyzing the impact of changes in local revenue sharing on competitive balance. Procedure (Data

Explain fully. [Present the relevant chart and refer to it directly in your answer.] The scatter chart
looks like this: Look first at 1995. In the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new sharing
arrangement. In the AL, the SD fell for a couple of years only. So, maybe sharing made the difference
in the AL, but not for long. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been falling since before
the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD jumped dramatically from there
on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of
evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an unmitigated success. 4. Do the averages you
calculated in Part B add anything to your conclusions about the impact of increased local revenue
sharing on competitive balance. [Present the relevant table of averages and percentage changes and
refer to it directly in your answer.] The averages help us to see a bit easier: | | Averages | | | | League |
1990 94 | 1995 2000 | %Change | 2001 05 | %Change | AL | 0.061 | 0.071 | 17.0% | 0.092 | 30.1% | NL |
0.070 | 0.068 | 1.8% | 0.071 | 4.1% | It looks like the only real evidence of enhanced balance is in the
NL and then it really is just a flattening out for the first period of local sharing (1995 2000). Balance
worsened dramatically in the AL for this first revenue sharing experiment. For the altered arrangment

St. Thomas Aquinas, David Hume, And Nel Noddings
In life, our character is tested numerous times through difficult predicaments. In a fictional scenario
set in a genocidal, totalitarian regime, the head of house faces an extremely challenging dilemma.
While the common individual may approach the predicament a certain way, the philosophies of
Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther King, Jr., David Hume, and Nel Noddings give us an idea of what
may be the most correct choice. While each philosopher presents a different and sound argument, they
each have a different idea of what is morally right. St. Thomas Aquinas the most influential medieval
philosopher created a bridge between faith and reason, and, thus, gave the world philosophies that can
be applied to many different scenarios. His ethics include a set of laws known as the Eternal Law, the
Divine Law, the Natural Law, and the Human Law. The Eternal Law is the law that only God knows.
The Divine Law is the Bible, and human beings have the ability to obey these interpreted divine laws.
The Natural Laws are laws that were created by God (because God created everything), but must be
deciphered by human reason. Lastly, Human Law is what is set by governments, and it is usually
unfair or flawed. That being said, the Human Law of the fictional genocidal, totalitarian regime would
be categorized as deeply flawed. In Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica: Question XCIV, he states
that good is that which all things seek after and that good is to be done and pursued, and evil is to be

Onka s Big Maka Research Paper
What is a family? How are families shaped and what effect do they have on society? In the United
States a family consists of both parents, one s self, siblings (biological or adoptive) and extended
family members; however, this is not the case around the world. The concept of family and who is
family changes in each culture, but is mostly centered around who is kin and who a person marries.
Family, kin, and marriage are established through how society decides their lineage, which establishes
cultural rituals within the society.
Family, kin, and marriage lies are established by the type of descent system the society uses. Descent
is traced kinship relationships through parents. The concept of family, kin, and marriage strive to and

For the Baka, infidelity or having more than one wife can cause problems in the family. For other
societies, like the Trobriand Islanders and the traditional rural Chinese towns, disrupting the family s
lineage can destroy family relations. In the movie, Duka s Dilemma, the crew follows a woman named
Duka as she deals with her husband marrying a second woman who is younger and more beautiful
than she is. In Baka culture polygyny (a man has multiple wives) is an accepted marriage practice
because the more wives a man has the more prestige they have. However, polygyny is rare as this
practice can cause tensions to rise between the first wife, husband, and second wife.In the Trobriand
Islands not continuing the matrilineage is dishonorable as the main focus of the family is to keep up
the family s matrilineal influence in society (Robbins, Dowty 209). The most important thing to the
Trobriand Islanders is keeping the matrilineage going as it is a way to pay respect to their ancestors as
well as establishing their social status in their

business with a profit margin of 8.9% and ten year average return to investors being 31% in 1997.
Newell, also rapidly expanded its global presence with international sales accounting to 25% of the

The acquisition of Calphalon created value for Newell. It opened the market of brand conscious users
for Newell especially in houseware and cookware specialty stores. Calphalon catered to customers by
deploying skilled personnel, offering product demonstrations, and conducting product training for the
distribution channels. Because of the higher brand recall and the emotional connect that Calphalon
enjoyed, Newell could offer premium products and retain its advantage as a differentiator. Calphalon
was running a profitable operation with profit margin of 2.6%, revenue growth rate of 175% in 5 years
and average SGA expenses about 25% per year. By acquiring Calphalon, Newell hoped to leverage the
core competencies of Calphalon in terms of creating customer pull strategy; building strong customer
relations and targeting a new young demography (25 35 years). Newell also gained access to existing
distribution channels of Calphalon, through which it pushed its products in a new

Downsizing Strategies and Its Effects
Introduction
Companies that faced a decrease in sales, market share, or profits in the 1980s and early 1990s began
to realize that their human resources were expensive and underutilized. To become more competitive,
companies made strategic decision to gradually lower their payroll numbers. (Anthony, Kacmar
Perrewe al, 2002:434) Downsizing has become a critical issue around the world. Downsizing and
mass lay offs are happening not only on US companies but also organizations in the entire industrial
world. The number of organizations and jobs affected by downsizing has been staggering. In 1993, in
an unending quest for lower costs, higher productivity, and fatter profits, American firms announced

Such corporate measures will be related to profitability, productivity, investment returns, customer
satisfaction ratings, etc. While these measures may suggest that a downsizing process has had a
negative impact on those who survive as employees in the organization, they can only serve to
highlight the presence of psychological and behavioural consequences for survivors. (Thornhill,
Saunders, 1998:273 4)
Why do firm downsize?
A diversity of reasons can be lead to the decision of downsize. Organization and employees are being
force to adapt to an environment characterized by augmented competition, government deregulation
and technological evolution. (Internet Material #7) (Refer to Appendix 1 for most common reasons of
restructuring) It can increase productivity, the value of the companies¡¯ shares and the profits by
reducing the number of employees per unit. Companies downsize to cut cost, improve efficiency and
to maintain a profit level acceptable to their shareholders. Other reasons include reorganization,
minimizing bureaucracy, eliminating excess, business downturns, mergers, and acquisitions.

The Expansion Of The Western Expansion During The...
The narrative of America has always been associated with Western Expansion using bounds and leaps
starting from the East Coast until the Pacific. The acquisition of Alaska and Hawaii, though not
included in the historical literature, signified the expansion of Americans westward maintaining the
ideology of the Manifest Destiny. The Western expansion during the nineteenth century was aided by
various factors such as purchases, treaties, and wars with the Native Americans. This essay develops
the chronological events associated with the Western expansion that took place between 1860 and
1890.
According to Kinnahan (407), the 19th century in America was marked by the continuous and
tremendous expansion of agriculture and industry as well as settlement throughout the continent. The
country s population more than doubled by the 1890 census. Most of the financial progress was
concentrated in the plains, Midwest, and Northwest states. Particularly, the northwest became the
industrial periphery of the nation controlling more than 85 percent of the United States processing and
manufacturing of raw materials in the West and Midwest. The South thrived as an agricultural state
with minimal industrial activities.
For many years prior to the Civil War, the Northern states were forced to conform to the wayward
policies instituted by the South. The South held most of the Senate but as soon as their power began to
dwindle, their unscrupulous laws were reformed. Some of the policies that

Difficulties of Colonisation of Mars Using the Shoemakers Ark
There are many reasons that Mars colonisation using Shoemakers Ark is a good idea, however, there
are also many contradictory arguments that may also make Mars uninhabitable. Understandably, Mars
colonisation seems like a fantastic idea to preserve the human race from extinction, but have leading
scientist and powerful governments considered the small details of this seemingly impossible venture?
Firstly, Mars temperatures are far too unstable for human colonisation to exist. Currently, Mars
functions at 127 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius which is far outside human comfort. However, as
discussed in question 4, modern technologies can prevail over this complex issue through climate
control measures for example. These measures can easily replicate Earth s comfortable temperature
and also regulate humidity. Compounds like these already exist in high altitude areas such as the
Himalayas. Thus, scientists could easily create Climate Control Compounds using similar techniques
and construction methods. Therefore, with a simple adaptation to our already existent technology, we
can be one step closer to creating Shoemakers Ark.
On the other hand, the colonisation in these Climate Control Compounds will be restricting and
uncomfortable for the majority of civilians. Lack of Leisure resources and open spaces may result in
conflict inside the Colonisation. This conflict does not provide any positive productiveness in the
advancement of the human race. Strict rules,

Subject: Recommendation for Antivirus Protection
I have three recommendations for antivirus and firewall packages on the internet, this is due to the
virus attack we had last week on our 50 workstations where half was down to a virus.
First would be Kaspersky it is well known for its antivirus software and usually scores higher than
most in third party tests for protection. This version is specifically designed to protect all types of
small business devices including file servers, Macs, and Android phones. It even includes a password
manager, extra security for banking transactions, keylogger protection, data encryption and online
backup. Security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Kaspersky, business packages start at $149.96 for five units for one year. And like
Kaspersky, it protects both Windows based PCs, Windows servers, and Mac computers. It doesn t
come with mobile phone protection but it will scan connected drives.
In the last AV Test round, Bitdefender scored 100 percent in protection and detection of malware, and
it passed the Virus Bulletin test for the past two years. To help keep your business safe, you can
manage the security via a management console. You can configure a two way firewall with intrusion
protection, block dangerous web pages, restrict the transmission of sensitive files, assign security
policies to groups and secure remote laptops. It will even remove other competing security software.
Third would be Trend Micro, one of the few internet security companies founded in the U.S., protects
PCs, laptops, Macs, mobile devices, and servers. It now generates about a billion dollars in revenue
per year with customers across the globe. It covers about 30 percent of the corporate security market
and offers two Worry Free versions for small businesses that can be purchased as software or as an
online service. The Advanced version also protects from spam and email delivered malware. Trend
Micro is pricier than Bitdefender and Kaspersky: Five licenses start at $188.75, but each license
comes with two mobile devices licenses so you can protect up to three devices per person.
It also received 100 percent

Benefit Of Modern Technology
Jacques Ellul once quoted, Modern technology has become a total phenomenon for civilization, the
defining force of a new social order in which an efficiency is no longer an option but a necessity
imposed on all human activity. How many lives have been saved since the technology for health
situations was invented? This question should give a general idea of how important and different lives
would be without the use of technology. Mechanization has changed and improved throughout these
past years, which has impacted many of society s lives . Modern technology is beneficial to save many
lives, improve education, but could be harmful to the planet and on the living in many ways.
One of the benefits of why technology is important is for the machines that save lives when there are
accidents, or when someone has some type of medical problem who has to be rushed immediately to a
local hospital for immediate care. Local hospitals and clinics already have the electronic devices set
up for anyone in need. With this being said, there are high chances of when people need urgent
medical attention, and could be cured right away. The impact of mechanization for medical care
involves a couple main areas which include: the jobs with health care, global economy, and aspect of
human life. On the other hand, several machines have very high electronic waves, which are too
powerful for humans, that lead to deadly situations. There was one case where a patient had went to a
local hospital with

The Laramie Project is a production that was created to addressed the cruel murder of 21 year old
Matthew Shepard who lived in a small town of Laramie, Wyoming. Due to this critical situation that
occurred, the state of Wyoming suffered from major judgements from other states in the U.S and
countries around the world. Laramie, had demonstrated stereotypical actions and discrimination

How To Write An Informative Speech On Barbie

III. Controversies A. Barbie s popularity ensures that her effect on the play of children attracts a high
degree of scrutiny. The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that children
consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her. 1. One of the most common criticisms of
Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young woman, leading to a risk
that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic. A standard Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall,
giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie s vital statistics have been estimated at 36 inches
(chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips). According to research by the University Central
Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, she would lack the 17 to 22 percent body fat required for a woman to
menstruate. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which
advised: Don t eat. The doll also came with pink bathroom scales reading 110 lbs., which would be
around 35 lbs. underweight for a woman 5 feet 9 inches tall. In 1997 Barbie s body mold was
redesigned and given a wider waist, with Mattel saying that this would make the doll better suited to
contemporary fashion designs. 2. In March 2000 stories appeared in the media claiming that the hard

Without insurance company, the market is at equilibrium at point A. So, at that point people would not
mind preferring selecting public care. But with copayment health insurance, consumers pay the lower
price of P2 and quantity increases to Q2. Since payment is also done by the insurance company then
people seek better quality of services which is provided by privatized health care. So, Its demand
increases in the country. But not all have insurance and cannot afford expensive private care. So, it is
very difficult to decide and assume the demand for privatized health care.
Pros and Cons Privatized Health care

Corruption in Kenya
Corruption in Kenya
Introduction
Corruption is a global phenomenon and is not bound to be found only in the developing countries but
also in the developed countries of the world. Corruption crosses boundaries or age and is mentioned in
the religious books of old such as the Bible (Deuteronomy Chapter 16, verses 19), and in Chinese
dynasty of Qin Dynasty (221 207).[1] Examples of corruption in developed countries include in
Russia where the government of Putin went through all methods known to them to corruptly take
away the petroleum mining from the owner,[2]who also is accused of having acquired the wealth
corruptly under the leadership of Boris Yeltin s rule which cost Russia its valued national resources
and gave it to the oligarchy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Kenyan scope, corruption is defined to include benefit which means any gift, loan, fee, reward,
appointment, service, favour, forbearance, promise or other consideration or advantage; corruption
referring to an offence under any of the provisions of sections 39 to 44, 46 and 47; bribery; fraud;
embezzlement or misappropriation of public funds; abuse of office; breach of trust; or an offence
involving dishonesty in connection with any tax, rate or impost levied under any Act or under any
written law relating to the elections of persons to public office.[13]Together with these are the
Economic crimes referring to offences under section 45; or offences involving dishonesty under any

The Main Differences Between The Federalist Vs....
On November 19, 1863, the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, declared in his famous Gettysburg
Address, Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so
conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. Lincoln s sentiments express the longstanding tension
between the North and the South about state s rights and slavery. Both of these causes sparked the
Federalist vs. Antifederalist debates, Abolitionist Movement, and Dred Scott decision that ultimately
fueled the divide that started the civil war. The issue of states rights was the main difference between
the Federalist and Anti Federalist views, and its divergence led to the fundamentally opposing views
of the north and south. The population of the northern states consisted mainly of Federalists who
believed that it is clearly within the provision [of the Constitution] which authorizes the making of all
needful rules and regulations concerning the property of the United States, as the same has been
practiced upon by the Government . This view suggests that politicians could make laws and
regulations based on implied powers of the Constitution, or non explicitly stated powers. With this
right, the Federalists believed it was in the best interest of the country to make a national bank that the
national government would control. The bank would consolidate all debts from each of the individual
colonies and compile a large national debt. This would benefit the Northern states

The Beliefs Between Christians And Mormons
The beliefs between Christians and Mormons are very different. Some would say that they are
different because The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is a cult. There has been great debate
about whether or not the LDS church is a cult or part of the Christian religion. People believe that
Mormonism is a cult, mostly because of the very different theology between The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter day Saints and biblical teachings. Mormonism holds authority to The Book of
Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, and parts of the Bible that do not
contradict Mormon doctrine (Cultwatch.com).
So, whether is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is by definition a cult or not, there is
some major differences between Mormon theology and biblical teaching. One of the biggest and very
different beliefs of Christian and Mormon is faith is God and human beings becoming gods. This
paper will explore the Mormon belief of exaltation and God.
History of Joseph Smith and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints:
Joseph Smith Jr., born to Joseph and Lacy Mack Smith, started The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
day Saints or LDS Church. Joseph Smith was born on December 23 of 1805. When Joseph Smith was
a young teenager, he was wondering what church he should join. He came across James 1:5, if any of
you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will
be given to you . One day, Joseph Smith went

Organization An organization is an arrangement of people, pursuing common goals, achieving results
and standards of performance. There are many different types of organisations that are set up to serve
a number of different purposes and to meet a variety of needs. They come in all forms, shapes and size.
Size can be measured in many ways, for example, the numbers of staff, number of branches sales
revenue each year, number of customers and market share. So there are large, medium and small
businesses. The type of activities which individual businesses are involved in varies depending upon
their product. There are three levels of economic activity. They are primary sector, secondary sector
and tertiary sector. Organisation can be categorized by legal structure. They are sole trader,
partnershiop, private or public company, government, voluntary organisation, co operative, charitable
and not for profit organisations and franchise. Fashion Queen Elsa is a small business because it
normally employs less than 200 people. It is a tertiary sector because it includes not only products but
also services. As it is owned by one person and run by a few people, it is a sole trader. Sole Traders
Sole traders are single individuals carrying on a business on their own. Such businesses are usually
small although large ones with some managerial delegation do exist. The advantages of being a sole
trader are as follows (a) No formal procedures needed to begin trading (b) Independence and

Power Tends To Corrupt And Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely
Outline the parts of the introduction to your paper, the main points, the evidence for those points, and
the conclusion of your paper. Introduction: As the saying goes, Power tends to corrupt, and absolute
power corrupts absolutely (Marton). A person may by guided by the noblest of ideals and have a cause
as pure as gold or as radiant as the sun, but the moment they have absolute power there cause will fall
apart and all will have been for not. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, he exemplifies this ideal as we
follow Napoleon and his rise to power, or rather his fall from grace towards complete degradation.
Over the progression of the novel Napoleon tries to actualize the dream of the other farm animals as
he works towards the dream of reaping what one sows . In the process, he is put into a leadership
position where he shows, the corrosive effect that power has his morals as the story progresses
displaying how power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Main Points: The story begins
with Old Major, who is a respected on the farm, and who had given a speech that stirred the animals
emotions towards the idea of rebellion. He used his power of respect and trust to persuade the others
to pursue the vision in his dream by stating, Nearly the whole of the production of our labor is stolen
from us by human beings. There, comrades is the answer to our problems. It is summed up in a single
word Man (Orwell 5).This dream of reaping what one sows made the animals on the

SUSTAINBILITY APPRAISAL
1 INTRODUCTION
This report will provide the Sustainability Appraisal in relation to the findings of the Baseline Study
conducted in October 2014. This is in accordance with Section 5 of the Planning and Compulsory
Purchase Act 2004, and EU Directive 2001/42/EC, which indicate that a Sustainability Appraisal (SA)
and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) are required for Development Plan Documents
(DPDs), produced as part of the Local Development Framework (DCLG, 2014). It is possible to

3 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Sustainable development is at the heart of the National Planning Policy Framework of 2012, and is
defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to
meet their own needs. Sustainable development includes three key pillars social, environmental and
economic, however in reality these issues often overlap and do not fit directly into one category
(Hopwood, Mellor and O Brien, 2005).
To ensure the concept of sustainable development is integrated into development plans, a
Sustainability Appraisal (SA) shall be conducted which requires that economic, environmental and
social matters are taken into account (Adur District Council, 2011). This integration will ensure that
future development meets the needs of local people whilst ensuring a healthy economy and
environment.

Short Term Goals
Title of Your Report Tony Robbins once said goals are like magnets, they ll attract the thing that
makes them true . Goals are always needed, they help one grow in life. Having goals gives more
encouragement to someone so they can complete it. Goals can always help someone out in different
types of ways, it can be personal, academic, performance. As long as you make it a goal, it s most
likely to happen. Here are some of my own goals. There are such things as short term goals, which are
goals that can be completed within the upcoming months. These are my short term goals. In the next
year I want to keep all of my grades above a C . The purpose of this goal is to get me to keep doing
my work throughout the entire school year. This year I want to have at least decent grades when

Brathwaite s Exument On The Issue Of English In The Caribbean
Brathwaite calls our attention on the fact that the issue of English requires a profound understanding
of the specific linguistic conditions that brought it into existence in countries with postcolonial history,
referring in his essay specifically to the Caribbean. He considers that it isn t useful to speak of its
variations and forms without understanding the context from which it emerged, and how its unique
historical and cultural situation set the base for, what Brathwaite denominates nation language . The
author starts his argument by explaining how colonialism and the colonial period vanquished all
indigenous people from that area, together with their language. That implied the need to import
laborers from different parts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, dialect is considered to describe bad English , meanwhile nation language stands as another way
of writing, by making use of African forms and values present in the Caribbean. A good example, so
as to support Brathwaite´s argumentation, is Linton Kwesi Johnson s poem Inglan Is A Bitch, where
the dub poet deliberately changes the syntax and lexis of the poem, so as to adapt it to his experiences
and sense of cultural difference. The poem itself is a method of writing back to the centre and
subverting standard English by using a creolized

Brazil s Independence Of Brazil
The people of Brazil gained independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822, and became known as
the Federative Republic of Brazil. With European, African, and Indigenous peoples influences, Brazil
has become a melting pot of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. It is made up of 26 states and has a
total population of 205,823,665 people. The two largest ethnic groups are White at 47.7 percent and
mulatto (mixed white and black) at 43.1 percent of the population. Most of the population lives on the
east coast, specifically the cities of Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Rio de Janeiro, and they live under a
federal presidential republic government. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but there are
less common languages spoken such as Spanish, English, German, Italian, and other Amerindian
languages. The average age is 31.6 years old, and the gender ratio is relatively equal throughout each
age group. The birth rate is 14.3 births/1,000 population, and the death rate is 6.6 deaths/1,000
population. These statistics produce a population growth rate of 0.75%. Surprisingly, 90% of the
population has some religious association. There are many different religions in Brazil, but the two

New Media In The Turn Within By Susan J. Douglas
New media is a less traditional version of media resulting from the digitization of almost everything.
Compared to its predecessor, new media is instantaneous, interactive, and universally accessible. The
largest aspect of new media is social media. It s role in today s media environment presents an
interesting paradox. On one hand, social media is rather limiting. It is incredibly easy to tailor one s
online experience to their personal beliefs and perspective. At the same time, social media presents the
opportunity to connect with the world at large. To say that new media allows for one but the not the
other would be incorrect. Today s society is one that both reveres and fears social media, leaving
people in an interesting position. In her essay The Turn Within , Susan J. Douglas discusses how
communications technologies have led to an inward, narcissistic scope instead of creating a global
village in which the world is bound together. There are oftentimes calls for a return to old media due
to (somewhat unfounded) fears of newer media making people anti social and self absorbed. But how
exactly is someone communicating by way of more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that when given the chance to participate in the world s changing social and political
landscape through social media, many people choose to cling to their own opinions and ignore the
perspectives of others. But the relationship between this narcissism and social media is not one that is
always clear or necessarily true. There are a number of people use social media for things other than
sharing pictures. In fact, people are capable of rational thought with and without the aid of social
media, despite the prevailing attitude that says opposite. While there is surely room for improvement,
today s media environment is certainly capable of helping us make sense of the world if we really

Frederic Chopin Essay
Frederic Chopin Frederic Chopin, the Polish composer and pianist, was born on March 1,1810,
according to the statements of the artist himself and his family, but according to his baptismal
certificate, which was written several weeks after his birth, the date was 22 February. His birthplace
was the village of Zelazowa Wola, part of the Duchy of Warsaw. The musical talent of Frederic
became apparent extremely early on, and it was compared with the childhood genius of Mozart.
Already at the age of 7, Frederic was the author of two polonaises, the first being published in the

When composing his first mazurkas in 1825, as well as the later ones, he resorted to this source of
inspiration that he kept in mind until the very end of his life. Chopin soon began studying the theory
of music, figured bass and composition at the Warsaw High School of Music, which was both part of
the Conservatory and, at the same time, connected with Warsaw University. Its head was the composer
Józef Elsner. Chopin, however, did not attend the piano class. Aware of the exceptional nature of
Chopin s talent, Elsner allowed him, in accordance with his personality and temperament, to
concentrate on piano music but was unbending as regards theoretical subjects, in particular
counterpoint. Chopin, endowed by nature with magnificent melodic invention, ease of free
improvisation and an inclination towards brilliant effects and perfect harmony, gained in Elsner s
school a solid grounding, discipline, and precision of construction, as well as an understanding of the
meaning and logic of each note. During this period of time, Frederic composed a series of extended
works, and after the third year of his studies Elsner wrote in a report: Chopin, Frederic, third year
student, amazing talent, musical genius . After completing his studies, Chopin planned a longer stay
abroad to become acquainted with the musical life of Europe and to win fame. Up to then, he had
never left Poland, with the exception of two brief stays in Prussia. In July 1829 he made a short

The Pros And Cons Of Biological Warfare
Throughout the course of history, several methods of warfare have been practiced. One of the standard
procedures for war is to use weapons such as pistols, shotguns, grenades, and automatic infantry. The
other method is known as biological warfare, which is the use of diseases and other biological agents
to harm enemies or citizens of an opposing country. Considering that the world flourishes in science
today, scientists are researching for more efficient ways to handle war, which is were biological
warfare comes in. After this method was discovered, many armies looked to it as the savior of war.
Unfortunately, people are not aware of the many consequences that biological warfare holds.
Biological weaponry offers a couple of positives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biological warfare presents many problems compared to the positives. First off, biological weapons
can potentially live in infected areas for long periods of time. For example, one of the more common
diseases used in biological warfare is Anthrax. Anthrax has the capability to transform into spores
which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of spreading the biological
agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another example is the incapacitating
agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a remainder of five percent of the agent
behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the opponent can research and produce a medical
treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge
of the general population is that the U.S. holds no biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another
country could easily attack us with biological agents and the U.S. army would not know how to
approach such a devastating hit. Although biological warfare is cost effective, this means enemies can
get ahold of the agents easier and research more. I believe that if a group of terrorists were to spend a
decent amount of time studying the agent and manipulating it, the agent could become super

Introduction Of Pvc ( Chloride )
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION OF PVC
1.2 A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF PVC
Since its discovery in 1933, Pipe has grown to become one of the world s most widely used and
recognized thermoplastic materials. The versatility of this unique plastic material is demonstrated by
the diversity of its use and applications. The original application for pipe was as a substitute for rubber
in electrical insulation during World War II. Pipe has since become one of the world s most widely
utilized thermoplastics. Today s modern pipe resins are highly engineered for much more rigorous
applications such as pressure rated gas and water pipe, landfill membranes, automotive fuel tanks and
other demanding applications. The performance benefits of polyethylene pipe in these original oil and
gas related applications have led to its use in equally demanding piping installations such as potable
water distribution, industrial and mining pipe, force mains and other critical applications where a
tough, ductile material is needed to assure long term performance. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a
plastic product which has matchless versatility. It effective lyre places wood, paper and metal in
several applications. As such plastic pipes have been progressively replacing conventional pipes like
G.I., Cast Iron, Asbestos Cement or Stone ware for a number of important and uses. Among the
various types of plastic pipes which are commonly used for such applications PVC pipes are the most

Essay about Ur and Djoser
Ziggurat of Ur and Stepped Pyramid of Djoser: A Comparison Joseph Katz Art History 100 26 Dr.
Karl F. Schuler

Title: Ziggurat of Ur
Period: Neo Sumerian
Provenance: Ur, Iraq
Date: 2150 BC
The Ziggurat of Ur was built in 2150 BC by the Gutians. First, let s discuss what exactly a ziggurat is.
A ziggurat is a superstructure built on top and around a mountain. On the very top was a temple.
Ziggurats were made out of only mud brick. One may ask, why use mud brick? Compared to other
materials such as limestone it is a terribly weak building material. The reason was because of the
location of Ur. Ur did not have limestone anywhere near it so mud brick was the practical choice.

There were also tunnels leading to hundreds of rooms. This was not merely a tomb but also a place
where King Djoser could live in the afterlife. The pyramid was built in the middle of a necropolis,
which literally means, city of the dead in Greek. Surrounding the necropolis is a limestone wall to
keep out everyone except a very select few. There were many other structures in the necropolis such
as: Temples, courtyards, and pavilions. However, most of the buildings were filled with rubble or sand
and were just for show. The building of pyramids kept all of the people in the surrounding cities busy
and working. These kinds of structures were great for Egyptian economy. There are many similarities
and differences between the Ziggurat of Ur, and Stepped Pyramid of Djoser. Each level of the Stepped
Pyramid bears a structural resemblance to the Ziggurat of Ur. While the two structures may look
slightly a like they re purposes are very different. Stepped Pyramid of Djoser is a tomb for the fallen
King, and the Ziggurat of Ur in a temple. The Pyramid was set in a necropolis with a big surrounding
wall while the Ziggurat was built in the center of a city and was very open and welcoming. Another
big difference is the building materials. The Pyramid was built out of durable limestone while the
Ziggurat was built out of flimsy mud brick. The Ziggurat temple was washed away by years of sand

  • 2. Holy Thursday by Blake Essay examples Holy Thursday by Blake In Holy Thursday Blake expresses feelings towards the society around him; England in the 18th Century, and the emotional, spiritual and moral poverty. He uses the word holy as he feels people are being sacrilegious to the country and are misusing it s ****. Rich is the adjective used to describe the countries material things. Fruitful could mean it is an agricultural and productive place. Another possibility is that it could represent temptation or corruption, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of the words bleak and bare used to describe their fields could be a metaphor for their lives. They see their future as having nothing in it, lifeless and empty. Blake says, their ways are filled with thorns , he could mean that they cannot escape or that their future has worse things to come. The word winter creates an image of cold and bleakness, and with the addition of eternal makes it seem as if their lives have always been like this, and always will be. The significance of sun and rain in the fourth verse could be that they both are not under man s control; they humble us. Blake could be saying that if the world were not under man s control, and if the poor people were free from oppression, poverty would not exist. Poverty is the result of man s own selfishness. In The Chimney Sweeper and Holy Thursday there are many recurring symbols and themes including the callous attitude of parents to children. In The Chimney Sweeper the children are referred to as little black things . Little emphasises the isolation and vulnerability of the child. The child is described as a black thing among the snow . The snow could represent innocence and purity. The second line has an alliterative w sound with the word weep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Local Revenue Sharing and Competitive Balance Local Revenue Sharing and Competitive Balance Problem Statement Your textbook shows the conditions that lead to increased competitive balance with an increase in local revenue sharing. Data exist on competitive balance and local revenue sharing so you can examine this for yourself. New local revenue sharing plans were put in place in MLB for the 1995 season and another increase in revenue sharing was in place for the 2001 season. These changes create a natural experiment for analyzing the impact of changes in local revenue sharing on competitive balance. Procedure (Data File: Blackboard, Local Revenue Sharing_Competitive Balance_Project3Data.xslx) A. The prepared sheet shows winning percent data for MLB, from 1990 to date. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain fully. [Present the relevant chart and refer to it directly in your answer.] The scatter chart looks like this: Look first at 1995. In the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new sharing arrangement. In the AL, the SD fell for a couple of years only. So, maybe sharing made the difference in the AL, but not for long. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD jumped dramatically from there on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an unmitigated success. 4. Do the averages you calculated in Part B add anything to your conclusions about the impact of increased local revenue sharing on competitive balance. [Present the relevant table of averages and percentage changes and refer to it directly in your answer.] The averages help us to see a bit easier: | | Averages | | | | League | 1990 94 | 1995 2000 | %Change | 2001 05 | %Change | AL | 0.061 | 0.071 | 17.0% | 0.092 | 30.1% | NL | 0.070 | 0.068 | 1.8% | 0.071 | 4.1% | It looks like the only real evidence of enhanced balance is in the NL and then it really is just a flattening out for the first period of local sharing (1995 2000). Balance worsened dramatically in the AL for this first revenue sharing experiment. For the altered arrangment in 2000, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. St. Thomas Aquinas, David Hume, And Nel Noddings In life, our character is tested numerous times through difficult predicaments. In a fictional scenario set in a genocidal, totalitarian regime, the head of house faces an extremely challenging dilemma. While the common individual may approach the predicament a certain way, the philosophies of Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther King, Jr., David Hume, and Nel Noddings give us an idea of what may be the most correct choice. While each philosopher presents a different and sound argument, they each have a different idea of what is morally right. St. Thomas Aquinas the most influential medieval philosopher created a bridge between faith and reason, and, thus, gave the world philosophies that can be applied to many different scenarios. His ethics include a set of laws known as the Eternal Law, the Divine Law, the Natural Law, and the Human Law. The Eternal Law is the law that only God knows. The Divine Law is the Bible, and human beings have the ability to obey these interpreted divine laws. The Natural Laws are laws that were created by God (because God created everything), but must be deciphered by human reason. Lastly, Human Law is what is set by governments, and it is usually unfair or flawed. That being said, the Human Law of the fictional genocidal, totalitarian regime would be categorized as deeply flawed. In Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica: Question XCIV, he states that good is that which all things seek after and that good is to be done and pursued, and evil is to be ... • 9. Downsizing Strategies and Its Effects Introduction Companies that faced a decrease in sales, market share, or profits in the 1980s and early 1990s began to realize that their human resources were expensive and underutilized. To become more competitive, companies made strategic decision to gradually lower their payroll numbers. (Anthony, Kacmar Perrewe al, 2002:434) Downsizing has become a critical issue around the world. Downsizing and mass lay offs are happening not only on US companies but also organizations in the entire industrial world. • 10. The Expansion Of The Western Expansion During The... The narrative of America has always been associated with Western Expansion using bounds and leaps starting from the East Coast until the Pacific. The acquisition of Alaska and Hawaii, though not included in the historical literature, signified the expansion of Americans westward maintaining the ideology of the Manifest Destiny. The Western expansion during the nineteenth century was aided by various factors such as purchases, treaties, and wars with the Native Americans. This essay develops the chronological events associated with the Western expansion that took place between 1860 and 1890. According to Kinnahan (407), the 19th century in America was marked by the continuous and tremendous expansion of agriculture and industry as well as settlement throughout the continent. The country s population more than doubled by the 1890 census. Most of the financial progress was concentrated in the plains, Midwest, and Northwest states. Particularly, the northwest became the industrial periphery of the nation controlling more than 85 percent of the United States processing and manufacturing of raw materials in the West and Midwest. The South thrived as an agricultural state with minimal industrial activities. For many years prior to the Civil War, the Northern states were forced to conform to the wayward policies instituted by the South. The South held most of the Senate but as soon as their power began to dwindle, their unscrupulous laws were reformed. Some of the policies that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Difficulties of Colonisation of Mars Using the Shoemakers Ark There are many reasons that Mars colonisation using Shoemakers Ark is a good idea, however, there are also many contradictory arguments that may also make Mars uninhabitable. Understandably, Mars colonisation seems like a fantastic idea to preserve the human race from extinction, but have leading scientist and powerful governments considered the small details of this seemingly impossible venture? Firstly, Mars temperatures are far too unstable for human colonisation to exist. Currently, Mars functions at 127 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius which is far outside human comfort. However, as discussed in question 4, modern technologies can prevail over this complex issue through climate control measures for example. These measures can easily replicate Earth s comfortable temperature and also regulate humidity. Compounds like these already exist in high altitude areas such as the Himalayas. Thus, scientists could easily create Climate Control Compounds using similar techniques and construction methods. Therefore, with a simple adaptation to our already existent technology, we can be one step closer to creating Shoemakers Ark. On the other hand, the colonisation in these Climate Control Compounds will be restricting and uncomfortable for the majority of civilians. Lack of Leisure resources and open spaces may result in conflict inside the Colonisation. This conflict does not provide any positive productiveness in the advancement of the human race. In the last AV Test round, Bitdefender scored 100 percent in protection and detection of malware, and it passed the Virus Bulletin test for the past two years. To help keep your business safe, you can manage the security via a management console. You can configure a two way firewall with intrusion protection, block dangerous web pages, restrict the transmission of sensitive files, assign security policies to groups and secure remote laptops. It will even remove other competing security software. Third would be Trend Micro, one of the few internet security companies founded in the U.S., protects PCs, laptops, Macs, mobile devices, and servers. It now generates about a billion dollars in revenue per year with customers across the globe. It covers about 30 percent of the corporate security market and offers two Worry Free versions for small businesses that can be purchased as software or as an online service. The Advanced version also protects from spam and email delivered malware. • 13. Benefit Of Modern Technology Jacques Ellul once quoted, Modern technology has become a total phenomenon for civilization, the defining force of a new social order in which an efficiency is no longer an option but a necessity imposed on all human activity. How many lives have been saved since the technology for health situations was invented? This question should give a general idea of how important and different lives would be without the use of technology. Mechanization has changed and improved throughout these past years, which has impacted many of society s lives . Modern technology is beneficial to save many lives, improve education, but could be harmful to the planet and on the living in many ways. One of the benefits of why technology is important is for the machines that save lives when there are accidents, or when someone has some type of medical problem who has to be rushed immediately to a local hospital for immediate care. Local hospitals and clinics already have the electronic devices set up for anyone in need. With this being said, there are high chances of when people need urgent medical attention, and could be cured right away. The impact of mechanization for medical care involves a couple main areas which include: the jobs with health care, global economy, and aspect of human life. On the other hand, several machines have very high electronic waves, which are too powerful for humans, that lead to deadly situations. The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that children consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her. 1. One of the most common criticisms of Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young woman, leading to a risk that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic. A standard Barbie doll is 11.5 inches tall, giving a height of 5 feet 9 inches at 1/6 scale. Barbie s vital statistics have been estimated at 36 inches (chest), 18 inches (waist) and 33 inches (hips). According to research by the University Central Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, she would lack the 17 to 22 percent body fat required for a woman to menstruate. In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie came with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which advised: Don t eat. The doll also came with pink bathroom scales reading 110 lbs., which would be around 35 lbs. underweight for a woman 5 feet 9 inches tall. In 1997 Barbie s body mold was redesigned and given a wider waist, with Mattel saying that this would make the doll better suited to contemporary fashion designs. 2. On November 19, 1863, the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, declared in his famous Gettysburg Address, Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. Lincoln s sentiments express the longstanding tension between the North and the South about state s rights and slavery. Both of these causes sparked the Federalist vs. Antifederalist debates, Abolitionist Movement, and Dred Scott decision that ultimately fueled the divide that started the civil war. The issue of states rights was the main difference between the Federalist and Anti Federalist views, and its divergence led to the fundamentally opposing views of the north and south. The population of the northern states consisted mainly of Federalists who believed that it is clearly within the provision [of the Constitution] which authorizes the making of all needful rules and regulations concerning the property of the United States, as the same has been practiced upon by the Government . This view suggests that politicians could make laws and regulations based on implied powers of the Constitution, or non explicitly stated powers. It is incredibly easy to tailor one s online experience to their personal beliefs and perspective. At the same time, social media presents the opportunity to connect with the world at large. Anthrax has the capability to transform into spores which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of spreading the biological agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another example is the incapacitating agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a remainder of five percent of the agent behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the opponent can research and produce a medical treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge of the general population is that the U.S. holds no biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another country could easily attack us with biological agents and the U.S. army would not know how to approach such a devastating hit.
