Pink Floyd and the Wall
Discussing Pink Floyd and The Wall
Rock Opera
Pink Floyd s the Wall is arguably one of the most intriguing and imaginative albums in the history of
rock music. Since its release in 1979, and the subsequent movie of 1982, the Wall has become
synonymous with, if not the very definition of, the term concept album. Aurally explosive on record
and visually explosive on the screen, the Wall traces the life of the fictional protagonist, Pink Floyd,
from his boyhood days in war torn England to his self imposed isolation as a world renowned rock
star, leading to a climax that is as questionably cathartic as it is destructive.
From the outset, Pink s life revolves around an abyss of loss and isolation. Born to a ... Show more

The Wall is a stunning synthesis of Waters familiar thematic obsessions: the brutal misanthropy of
Pink Floyd s last LP, Animals Dark Side of the Moon s sour, middle aged cynicism, the surprisingly
shrewd perception that the music business is a microcosm of institutional opportunity, Wish You were
Here, and the dread of impending psychoses that runs through all these records. There is a strongly felt
antiwar sentiment that dates way back to 1968 s A Saucerful of Secrets. However, where Animals, for
instance, suffered from self centered smugness, the even more abject The Wall leaps to life with a
relentless lyrical rage that is clearly genuine. .
Fashioned as a kind of circular maze (the last words on side four begin a sentence completed by the
first words on side one), The Wall offers no exit except madness from a world malevolently bent on
crippling its citizens at every level of endeavor. The process for those of Waters generation, at least
begins at birth with the smothering distortions of mother love. Then there are some vaguely
remembered upheavals from the wartime Blitz:
Did you ever wonder
Why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world
Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?
In government run schools, children are methodically tormented and humiliated by teachers whose
comeuppance occurs when they go home at

Fetal Pig And The Human Being s Anatomy
Hypothesis Due to the fact that the fetal pig and the human being s anatomy are extremely similar,
with the exception of a few minor parts, the fetal pig will be a precise tool in learning about the
anatomy of a human.
Introduction
In courses such as biology, anatomy, and physiology, learning the anatomy of a human is imperative to
learning about its functions and processes. Due to a lack of money, resources, and access, UConn
cannot provide the use of a human cadaver for educational purposes. Since we lack actual human
specimens, the next best thing is the fetal pig. The reasoning behind the choice of a fetal pig is because
it is extremely similar to the anatomy of a human, with a few minor differences of course. A study at

Discussion
My hypothesis was correct in addressing how similar the fetal pig and human anatomy are, and how it
helps to learn more about a human. One way in which the fetal pig is particularly similar to a human is
its lungs. The fetal pig s lungs are almost identical to that of a human. They exchange oxygen for
CO2, are located in the same place, and are also multi lobed. Another similarity is the pig s
pericardium. The pericardium is a clear membrane that surrounds the heart, it is composed of an outer
fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane. Its main purpose is the give the heart
protection against infection and bacteria, and it provides lubrication as well. Every human has their
heart surrounded by this, and so does a fetal pig. When dissecting, the dissector must make a light
incision and remove the pericardium so the heart can be accessed. Although there are many
similarities between the fetal pig and a human, there are also differences. The first difference resides
in the liver. A normal human liver has four lobes: right, left, caudate, and quadrate. While a normal pig
liver has five lobes: right lateral, right central, left central, left lateral, and caudate. Another main
difference is that a fetal pig s colon is a spiral shape. A human s colon is shaped in a sigmoidal pattern
instead ( Human/Pig Comparisons , 2004, September, goshen.edu).

Deere quarterly sales analysis Essay
TO: JB Penn, Chief Economist, Deere Co.
FROM:
DATE: 29 October 2014
SUBJECT: Quarterly sales analysis
Following an analysis of sales data between 1995 and 2012, it is recommended that that Deere and Co.
incorporate the seasonal indicator variables model to forecast future sales. In the regression analysis
for this model it was determined that it was able to explain approximately
90% of the variability in past sales. Adjustments to this forecasting model can be made by
incorporating overall economic climate projections, long term weather forecasts, and commodity
market futures.
As evidenced in the sales plot, from January 31, 1995 through July 31, 2014 John Deere has enjoyed
steady sales growth with seasonal peaks recorded at end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If a strong correlation exists, forecasts of these variables could be coupled with the sales forecasts to

The Wastage ( Defects ) Through The Pdca Cycle By Using...
2. Project overview
This project aims to address the wastage (defects) through the PDCA cycle by using DMAIC tool.
Figure 2.1: PDCA cycle
The project has the following phases:
1) Phase 1 Define: Initially the problem (defects occurring) is clearly and specifically defined.
Consists of the project objectives, project team, process and the critical customer requirements
2) Phase 2 Measure: The present condition of the industry and quantifying the defects.
3) Phase 3 Analyze: Find out the root cause of the defects.
4) Phase 4 Improve: Solutions that are directly addressed as per the root cause.
5) Phase 5 Control: Sustain the improvements that are done through continual monitoring.

3.5 Process
The process is initially studied and the critical requirements of the customer (VOC) and the Critical to
quality (CTQ) areas of the process were identified.
Table 3.1: Process of manufacturing cards in 123 cards intl.
Based on the customer expectation and the processes involved a QFD tools was plotted.
Figure 3.2: Quality function deployment based on customer expectation
From the above QFD the critical to quality area (CTQs) as per customer expectation could be
identified.
It was found that Printing and laminating process were the major two critical categories with
maximum impact with relevance to the voice of the customer.
4. DMAIC Measure
Based on the high impact processes, the defects incurred in printing and laminating were studied and
measured. The main defects were Tonality issues (color changes), spot formation on cards, blurry print
bubbles due to lamination and scratches.

Juliet nearly jumping off of the balcony the scene is very well directed and shows a lot of passion.

British Colonialism Essay example
The study of British colonialism is a rather new field with much to discuss and a lot more to debate.
The recent recognition of new nation states that were once under the control of Britain was a growing
phenomenon and one that continues to play a large role in today s global politics. Since the rather
recent period of these new nations, new study s have been done into the history of a) the peoples that
inhabited the land before Britain, b) the way Britain occupied and control and land, and now c) post
Britain. This is a growing topic in the historical field because seventy five years ago there was no
thought that Britain would relieve control of India or Nigeria. That is why post British colonialism is
important to today, because it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1300 British men died and was evidently the worst British defeat at the hands of a native power in the
history of its empire. This was played down by the British crown as nothing more than a minor
skirmish, however, since the fall of the British empire, historians have done their share of reviewing,
analyzing and critiquing the battle and why is ended in such disaster for the British. The first major
piece of work to be written about the Anglo Zulu war, with a small chapter devoted to the battle of
Isandlwana, is called The History of the Zulu War and Its Origin by Frances Ellen Colenso. Written in
1880, one year after the war concluded, Colenso wrote in a Pro nationalist focus. He applauds the
camp tactics employed by Lord Chelmsford, General of British Forces in South Africa and Natal, and
does in no way seem to dislike or question the Generals commands. As stated above, this a very short
chapter in a very large book. There are thirty pages devoted to Isandlwana in a book of over 400
pages. The thesis of the book is However insufficient the result may prove, we shall at least hope that

on helping the British reputation. The book does leave out a lot of important details because it is

Top 8 Powerful, Compact and Well Organized Tasks to...
Top 8 powerful, compact and well organized tasks to increase your productivity (output).
Productivity is the grouping of smart preparation and dedicated hard work. Continuing productive to
your work is really hard. Every time end of the working day, chances are that you are not fulfilled with
what you have gifted. Productivity could be constantly value added, but here are 8 pointers that have
truly worked for you. Fortunately, a computer, smartphone and a little know how all you need are.
1. Speed Reading Saves Your Time.
In your daily working day wants you to read huge passages of text quickly, think about figuring out
how to speed read. On a normal, a person reads around 200 to 250words per minute (WPM) and this is
really slow compared to speed readers because of sub vocalization you unconsciously read every word
to yourself as you read. Eliminating sub vocalization is one of the essential fundamental of speed
reading. You can use Speed Reader (by P Garrison) app for your android phone and tablet, for google
chrome you ll use Spreed extension and for iOS try Speed Reading HD.
These apps are using Rapid Serial Visual Presentation technique. In this technique you ll see one word
at a time very quickly in the center of your screen. You ll observe that you re rapidly capable to read
300wpm and with a little more practice you ll reach 500 600wpm. You ll have the capacity for reading
three times quicker with a couple of days practice.

On April 23rd, I attended a musical performance by the Diderot String Quartet. The performance was
held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in 111 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m. The
Diderot String Quartet performance that I attended was titled Diderot String Quartet: Haydn and his
Students. The Diderot String Quartet performance is titled after the musical pieces of the concert,
which included string quartets by Franz Joseph Haydn, Anton Ferdinand Titz, and Ludwig van
Beethoven. The first musical piece performed was String Quartet No. 1 in G Major by Anton
Ferdinand Titz. The second musical piece performed was String Quartet Op. 76, No.6 in Eb Major
Fantasia by Franz Joseph Haydn. The third and final piece performed was String Quartet Op.74 in Eb
Major Harp by Ludwig van Beethoven. Each musical piece was performed beautifully by the Diderot
String Quartet, which included 2 violinists (Johanna Novom and Adriane Post), a cellist (Paul Dwyer),
and a violist (Kyle Miller). Besides the performance, the location of the concert was exceptional. The
Bruno Walter Auditorium is a relatively small concert hall. According to its website, the auditorium
can only accommodate an audience of 202. However, the Bruno Walter Auditorium has an
empowering effect on the audience. When the performance began, I felt the empowering effect of the
auditorium when I saw how the audience was drawn to the center of the stage. The attention of the
audience created an intimate

Burm A Military Dictatorship Country For Many Years
Burma used to be a military dictatorship country for several years. The military dictatorship system
was initially led by General Ne Win, who ruled the country with brutality since 1962. In 1974, the
government forced people to approve a new constitution for establishing a one party (Burma Socialist

Ne Win turned into Chairman of the State Council and President of Burma U Ne Win. However, the

and police forces also began to support the protestors (The protests of 8888 ). Using excessive brutal

Research Paper On Djinn
Nigh on a millennium ago, I was created. I was not made a human, nor made in the manner such
trivial beings come about. Instead, I was born a Djinn. However premature, let me intercede. The term
Genie is a title given to the whims of a literarily polluted culture, evident by how such a regal term
came to be the adjective for a blue a**. How such a blatant abomination occurred, I shall forever lack
the wisdom to know. The proper term for these beings is Djinn, as I shall refer to them, and, by
extension, myself.
I, as most Djinn are, was made from the primary elements which form the world; Earth, Water, Fire,
Air, and Metal. Yes, those initial letters are capitalized, for even the strongest Mage is incapable of

His part is to form the paint into a painting. He does this through a complex barrage of spells and

that mistake is made the Djinn is then left to stay in that final form, and (As this has saved me from
many a tight situation) shapeshifting is an invaluable tool. The Mages duty is to instill in the elements
a consciousness. A life. In doing such he leaves form to the Djinn in question. My inception was not
slightly different. Once given a mind, Djinn are immediately sent to the Other. (The Other is the
dimension in which all Djinn, regardless of power, reside. I will immediately forfeit any action of
description, for the human mind is trained to one dimension, and that is earth s. Deviation from Earths
will result in little worth the price). As one can imagine, those immediately brought to the Other are
not embraced, and are often treated as cannon fodder till they grow more experienced. I believe this
makes three, but once again, I

A Letter For The County Commissioners

in mind the offers, and intentionally wrote a more favorable letter to the county commissioners.
Overall, the issues were caused by the hospital s financial status and the FCHP representative s
generous bribes to Dr. Wood.
There are two different issues depicted in this case study. The first issue is shared between all of the
hospital physicians, including Dr. Wood, the leader of the group. They are able to resolve the issue, of
whether or not to accept the FCHP proposal to manage the hospital. They are able to make a concise
agreement to object the proposal, with the help of Dr. Kopper s background information. The second
issue is only faced by Dr. Wood, and develops when he is offered bribes by the FCPH representative,
in exchange for a supportive letter to the county commissioners.
In Case 28 and Case 30 both leaders face more than one issue, however, they were not similar. Both
leaders are also impacted by their communication strategies, and inability to fully collaborate with
those that they are leading. In Case 28 the leader did not seek out opinions from the employees he was
leading. He did not request feedback or hold staff meetings to address the issue he faced. His policy

Measure For Measure Death Essay
Measure for Measure:
Shakespeare creates a twisted outlook on the concept of death in Measure for Measure. He displays
comedy but also includes a tragic element by introducing the binary of life and death. He uses a
combination of history, tragedy, and comedy to create this problem play. Shakespeare paints reality by
frequently portraying death, which is a stark contrast to the comedic genre the play initially begins
with. I
The theme of afterlife emerges in Act 3 Scene 1 and remains prominent throughout the play, the Duke
(as Friar Lodowick) causes Claudio to realize he has nothing to live for and makes death appealing to
him. The Duke says:

seems to be tragic.
Nay, hear me, Isabel Isabella: O, fie, fie, fie! Thy sin s not accidental, but a trade. Mercy to thee would
prove itself a bawd Tis best that thou diest quickly. Claudio: O, hear me, Isabella (III.i.165 170)
Claudio begs for his life which pressurizes Isabella to give up to Angelo s suggestion, however
Isabella shouts back in disgust because Claudio had started to consider Angelo s offer. She would
follow the path of a nun rather than saving her brother s life. Isabella says bawd referring to herself
giving her body for something in return, as a prostitute would for money. In this case, she would be
have Claudio s life spared, instead of money. She exclaims that she wants Claudio to die, but does not
allow Claudio to speak. Isabella storms off without giving Claudio a say in his death, letting him know
that she betrayed him. At this moment, the characters take a tragic turn, during which they debate the
value of life or the purpose of death. III Duke (As Friar Lodowick): Angelo had never the purpose to

Responsible Citizenship In Ronald Wright s A Short History...
Despite mankind s best effort, the history of mankind is a wrinkled mess. These wrinkles are due to
mankind s inability to stop history from repeating itself several times over. However, the idea of
history repeating itself is not new to the literature of today s society. There are several more causes for
wrinkles in mankind s history. In fact, Ronald Wright argues that not only the idea of history repeating
itself, but also the idea of mankind progressing to the point that progress becomes detrimental to
mankind will result in the extinction of mankind. Therefore, Wright s argument in A Short History of
Progress should shape the discussion of responsible citizenship because his viewpoints show how
human ignorance allows mankind to progress towards extinction.
Responsible citizenship involves preventing the growth of the negative components of society;
however, mankind s progress has grown to the point where it is negative to society. The idea of
progress creates an image of society improving and heading towards a perfect ... Show more content

A part of responsible citizenship is ensuring that the society grows and becomes more efficient as it
evolves. Wright discusses how mankind has never truly grown and changed because, these things had
already been done on a small scale . . . so this spur of art and technology cannot be evidence that we
suddenly evolved into a new species (p.39). By these things Wright means the advancements of
humankind in several aspects: technological, and social. Thusly, he demonstrates that the progress
thought to be brand new to this generation is a repeat of a previous development. Theoretically
speaking then, how can something be better if it is just a different a different shell of the same object?
It cannot be, therefore mankind is not growing but simply repeating the same cycle over and over

Optical Illusions Research Paper
Illusions can be early illusions, twentieth century illusions, twenty first century illusions, and new
illusions. Optical illusions started out in ancient Greece. John R. Opel made one of the earliest optical
illusion in 1854. Many optical illusions have been found in cave paintings. An optical illusion is not
appraised as an invention, but instead the result of a man mimicking the geometric form seen in
nature. First, our eyes skim, then our brains tend to jump to conclusions. The impact on seeing
something starts with light rays bouncing off an object. These rays enter the eyes through the cornea.
The cornea is a transparent layer forming the front of the eye. The cornea refracts the light rays as they
go through dark part of the eye, called the pupil. The iris(a flat, colored, ring shaped membrane behind
the cornea of the eye, with an adjustable circular opening(pupil) in the center) contracts or expands to
change the amount of light that goes through. Then, the light rays go through the lens of your eye,
biconvex structure in the eye that, along with the cornea, helps to refract light to be focused on the
retina. Last, the cell in the retina, called cones and rods, turn the light into electrical signals. That gets
sent through the optic nerves, where the mind clarifies them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are two other types, but all trick your eyes and brain. The first type is physiological illusion.
The physiological illusions are created when your brain and eyes have too much stimulus. The
stimulus could be light, movement, or color. An example of a physiological illusion would be the
images that you see after staring at a bright light. The other type of illusion is a cognitive illusion.
They are pictures that cause an object to look distorted. For example, the spinning snakes is a type of
cognitive illusion. The snakes look like they are moving but are actually still. The shape of the snakes

Character Analysis Of Gone By Michael Grant
It is a well known fact that a persons environment develops his character. Many people react in
different ways when tragedy strikes. Often during the most difficult situations, a persons true character
is magnified. The children of Perdido Beach lived a relatively normal life, until a radioactive
explosion took the lives of everyone over the age of fourteen. In Gone, Michael Grant uses cultural,
physical, and geographical surroundings to shape the psychological and moral traits of his characters
as they try to save the small town of Perdido Beach, California.
In his novel, Grant uses culture to shape the moral traits of Sam and Drake. As Sam, Astrid, Little
Pete, Lana, Quinn, and Edilio trekked through the woods, Drake and Caine followed them in a SUV.
Drake climbs out of the vehicle and pulls a gun to Astrid s head, but quickly decides to go after Sam,
instead. Drake strikes Sam on the head with the gun and knocks him to the ground. As Sam is lying
face down in the dirt, Drake places the barrel of the gun against the back of his knee and shoots him.
Drake then fires the gun at Astrid s autistic brother, Little Pete, but fortunately, his aim was off. Grant
writes, Drake s arm, the entire arm holding the gun, burst into flame (406). Drake and Caine were not
aware of Sam s special powers. Like Bette, Sam can shoot fire out of his hands. While Drake was
preoccupied with murdering Little Pete he forgot to pay attention to the others. Sam uses the last of his

most spectacular because of the amount of people who worked on it, the length of the wall, and the
time period it was built in. The wall of china was built to keep the Chinese in, and the rest of the world
out. It was built under the rule of emperor Shi Huangdi. The creation of the Great Wall of China was
actually the linking of walls that were already built by other kingdoms. It was built after the
unification of china in the beginning of the Qin Dynasty (221 206 BC). It was a massive construction
project in which a lot of time was invested, and in which many suffered. It was the most ambitious
engineering project ever conceived. This extraordinary project could have never been built without the
unification of China. Before china was unified, everything was chaotic and disastrous. Previous to the
unification of china, I don t think people could have come together to build a wall as such. China was
made up of a number of states each fighting for supremacy. There were a number of wars going on
between the different states and neither was successful. It wasn t until the Qin kingdom rose and
destroyed the other kingdoms. They destroyed most of the kingdoms but one was still left, they were
called the Chu. They fought with them for about fifteen year and then they finally surrendered. They
were ruthless and ambitious therefore the only one who could have unified China. Two

Parody Into Classical Music
Most normal people believe that classical music is in the genre of the boring and unexciting. Yet,
when you bring sports into the equation, it attracts more people s attention and a wider variety of
audiences. Thus classical music becomes lively and sporty. I am not familiar with this certain music,
but I would like to learn more about it. Combining Beethoven and his music with an athletic event
makes me more curious to learn about this genre of music. My thoughts on including this kind of
parody into classical music can attract a wider variety of audiences. In today s culture, classical music
is not as prevalent in the world like sports. Bringing these two things together makes this genre more
noticeable to the people that are not involved.

Battle Of Trafalgar Research Paper
Battle of Trafalgar On October 21, 1805 the combined fleets of Spain, France and the Royal Navy
made the last great sea action of this time. We do not know if this helped the war effort, but the battle
itself was a culmination of a long campaign. Europe was in peace for 14 months because of the Treaty
Amiens. Napoleon had plans to attack Europe but was frightened at the thought of them being
blockaded by the Royal Navy.
On March 30th Admiral Villeneuve managed to take over Nelson blockading him in Toulon.
Villeneuve sailed West waiting for Ganteaume, but Ganteaume failed to to break the British blockade.

The Beginning Of Expansion Of The Middle Class
Post World War II United States was a significant period of time when the lifestyle of American
people changed dramatically. Long period of economic booms brought mass suburbanization and
people purchased their own home appliances, houses, and automobiles. As a matter of fact, in the
background of the change of American lifestyle, there were repeated technological innovations.
Successful mass productions of goods accelerated buying activities, which promoted the economic
development in the United States. This was the beginning of expansion of the middle class; some
people get enough money to succeed in having a happy life in the United States with family. However,
when the status of family in a community was considered, proper management of money was
necessary to keep their lives. Handful choices of buying goods or products with satisfaction made
American Dream possible, but buying activities changed the social status of people for better or worse
at the same time.
As is well known, American Dream is an idea of success that can be gained by effort and sometimes
saving money. It generally requires having a good life as a middle class or higher class family who do
not struggle with financial problems. Certainly, being able to buy something that a person wants
represents that he/she is capable to be at least middle class whether or not they can buy then and there.
Purchasing something one needs and something one wants sounds similar, but they are different. The

Archaeology and Ethics

There are many similarities in the ethical statements/codes of the SAA, SHA, AIA, and RPA. The ones
that pertain to this case are as follows: it is the responsibility of archaeologists to work for the long
term conservation and protection of the archaeological record (SAA 1, AIA 1, RPA 1.1 e). The buying
and selling of objects out of archaeological context is contributing to the destruction of the
archaeological record around the world, and these items should not be traded, sold, bought, or bartered
as commercial goods (SAA 3, SHA 6, AIA 2, RPA 1.2 e). Within reasonable time, the knowledge
archaeologists gain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also they are to be careful to preserve and protect the archaeological site when publishing and
distributing information about their nature and location (SAA6 and SHA3).
Finally, the last ethical dilemma to be discussed is the importance of archaeologists to inform the
proper authorities when illegal trading, or selling, of artifacts is discovered. In the text it states, The
two project directors reply that they will not purchase the pots themselves, nor will they guarantee that
authorities will not be notified. They do, however, loan the men some gasoline and a video camera for
a day, to record the pots and their location. It is questionable that the two directors would only imply
that they could not promise the authorities would not be notified. It is their duty to do so, according to
the statements and ethical codes of many archaeological organizations. They also give the local
employees gasoline and a video camera for a day leads the reader to believe that they are okay with
this sort of behavior and have no intention of notifying the proper authorities. It also says that because
of the video camera, many of the villagers now know where the cave is, and will likely know what
ends up happening to the pots. Because the villagers now know where the cave is, it is even more
important that the authorities are notified so that similar situations do not arise with villagers
scavenging the cave and finding more

Mental And Social Aspects Of Kevin Who Is Diagnosed With...
This essay examines the physical, mental and social aspects of Kevin who is diagnosed with Atrial
Fibrillation (AF) and a known case of transient ischaemic attack(TIA). Atrial flutter or AF is an
arrhythmia which lead to severe cardiac complications. TIA is a nervous system deficit which occurs
as a result of impaired blood flow and usually settle down within 24 hours hence it is a short term
episode. Kevin who is a farmer, lives on his own, needs a thorough understanding of his present
situation and how it can adversely affect his daily activities. However, it is apparent that he does not
understand the seriousness of the situation well enough and at the same time he has a careless attitude.
So it is very important to provide a general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most cases, atrial fibrillation can end up in a larger left atria and pulmonary veins. Subsequently,
structural and functional changes happens within the heart in terms of size and shape which is called
cardiac remodelling. The initial phase is very important as that is when the the lost stabilities are
restored. Thereafter, if the action still goes on, massive changes happens in heart chambers, cardiac
function gets worse and eventually cardiac failure emerges. IN addition to all the above,
thromboembolism can be simply said as the clot formation in blood vessels which breaks and
obstructs another blood vessel. A thrombus can appear either in veins or in arteries. If it is not treated
properly by anticoagulants, stroke is the end result. Stroke can be categorized into three: ischaemic,
haemorrhagic and TIA or mini stroke. In ischemic stroke, blood circulation to the brain is deteriorated
followed by an obstruction in the blood vessel whereas haemorrhagic stroke is a result of bleeding in
the brain followed by the breakage of blood vessels. Age and cardio vascular disorders especially
hypercoagulable states are the precipitating factors for the former whereas high blood pressure and
aneurysms are the factors for latter. Mostly, TIA occur as a result of narrowing of vessels. If it is not
treated by anticoagulants at the very beginning, there is a high risk of developing stroke by means of
more occlusion in the blood vessel or the rupture. So,

The Fleeting of Social Status Essay
Historically it has been viewed that one s place in society is fixed. This concept included the notion
that not only was it impossible for one to move up in society, but also that it was difficult for one to
move down the social ladder. The American dream, of course, promotes the idea that one can move up
in the social ladder. However, many fail to realize that one can plummet from highest social class to
the bottom, without even realizing how or why. John Cheever s The Swimmer, examines and reveals
this problem through conflicts of attitude between the narrator and the viewpoint character, Neddy
Merrill. The narrator conveys the attitude that social status is fleeting through the use of irony and
shifts in time. Neddy s attitude, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Neddy does not remember a neighbor s surgery and does not remember selling his
house. An additional concept of time that Cheever distorts has to do with the weather. The reader is
told that this swim across the county begins on a warm summer day, however, there are numerous
instances where the weather is not consistent with this initial description. At one point a storm rolls
through during Neddy s journey, The rain had cooled the air and he shivered. The changing weather,
specifically cool rain, is not consistent with the journey taking place in a days time. The reader senses
that the amount of time that has passed during the swim could be even more than days or months, but
even years since Neddy began his adventure. The narrator has contrasted Neddy s fixed time, with
reality s time moving forward in order to show that life can pass us by.
Neddy Merrill, on the other hand has a completely different attitude toward social status. The whole
point of Neddy s swim is an attempt to prove that he is still an important figure in society. He was not
a practical joker nor was he a fool but he was determinedly original and had a vague and modest idea
of himself as a legendary figure. Neddy is clearly in denial and does not accept the fact that he is no
longer the important, wealthy man he once was. This point is made painfully apparent when Neddy
swims through the Halloran residence. Mrs. Halloran bluntly states that they had heard of his

Guardrail Vegetation Research Paper
Safety is a number one priority when it comes to roadways, whether it s being in a vehicle, walking
across the road or riding a bicycle. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your
surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs
need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently,
herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According
to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can
become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost
and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the
application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected
from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of
erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a
temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to
grow. Of the surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another concern is the molding on and around the guardrail posts can provide an opportunity for
vegetation growth, this has been seen in Delaware. Another method is to place weed barriers on the
roadsides. While this method seems to be the best solution, it requires a large amount of maintenance.
The barriers must have the amount of organic and inorganic debris monitored to prevent build up,
which can cause grass to grow. Even though maintenance is required to monitor and clean, this is a
viable option where herbicides and any chemical use is

Globalization results in rapid and constant business environmental changes. As a result, most
organizations tend to be more transformational organization so as to be flexible to respond promptly to
those changes. Strategic change is one of the effective solutions to this situation. This paper will

This situation might affect attitude of entire staff (Chaharbaghi and Willis, 1998). As a result, critical
learning is indispensable in this stage to create the atmosphere of understanding the problem of
organization and transfer knowledge in order to enhance the ability of making decision in rapid
change situation. Besides, this learning process leads to the lower degree of change resistance but
higher level of participation which are vital component to achieve strategic change goal (Kenny,
2006). Afterward when employees understand more about the situation, it is time to inform the
direction and plan of strategic change. In this step, eventhough the implementation becomes more
constant, organization must maintain flexibility for unexpected situation. Finally, when organization is
covered with understanding and predictable situation, the normal operation of implementation was
brought in to perform (Kenny, 2006). Consequently, it can be concluded from above implementation
step, which applies the radical approach when there is a lot of risk and uncertainty and the incremental
approach when there is lower scale of risk and uncertainty, is the process of transformational strategic

The creative process includes brainstorming sessions where the team is asked to create a list of
everything that could go wrong. All ideas are welcome at this stage with the evaluation of the ideas

Risk identification more disciplined process involves using checklists of potential risks and evaluating
the likelihood that those events might happen on the project. Some companies and industries develop
risk checklists based on experience from past projects. These checklists can be helpful to the project
manager and project team in identifying both specific risks on the checklist and expanding the
thinking of the team. The past experience of the project team, project experience within the company,
and experts in the industry can be valuable resources for identifying.

  • 2. Pink Floyd and the Wall Discussing Pink Floyd and The Wall Rock Opera Pink Floyd s the Wall is arguably one of the most intriguing and imaginative albums in the history of rock music. Since its release in 1979, and the subsequent movie of 1982, the Wall has become synonymous with, if not the very definition of, the term concept album. Aurally explosive on record and visually explosive on the screen, the Wall traces the life of the fictional protagonist, Pink Floyd, from his boyhood days in war torn England to his self imposed isolation as a world renowned rock star, leading to a climax that is as questionably cathartic as it is destructive. From the outset, Pink s life revolves around an abyss of loss and isolation. Born to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Wall is a stunning synthesis of Waters familiar thematic obsessions: the brutal misanthropy of Pink Floyd s last LP, Animals Dark Side of the Moon s sour, middle aged cynicism, the surprisingly shrewd perception that the music business is a microcosm of institutional opportunity, Wish You were Here, and the dread of impending psychoses that runs through all these records. There is a strongly felt antiwar sentiment that dates way back to 1968 s A Saucerful of Secrets. However, where Animals, for instance, suffered from self centered smugness, the even more abject The Wall leaps to life with a relentless lyrical rage that is clearly genuine. . Fashioned as a kind of circular maze (the last words on side four begin a sentence completed by the first words on side one), The Wall offers no exit except madness from a world malevolently bent on crippling its citizens at every level of endeavor. The process for those of Waters generation, at least begins at birth with the smothering distortions of mother love. Then there are some vaguely remembered upheavals from the wartime Blitz: Did you ever wonder Why we had to run for shelter When the promise of a brave new world Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky? In government run schools, children are methodically tormented and humiliated by teachers whose comeuppance occurs when they go home at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fetal Pig And The Human Being s Anatomy Hypothesis Due to the fact that the fetal pig and the human being s anatomy are extremely similar, with the exception of a few minor parts, the fetal pig will be a precise tool in learning about the anatomy of a human. Introduction In courses such as biology, anatomy, and physiology, learning the anatomy of a human is imperative to learning about its functions and processes. Due to a lack of money, resources, and access, UConn cannot provide the use of a human cadaver for educational purposes. Since we lack actual human specimens, the next best thing is the fetal pig. The reasoning behind the choice of a fetal pig is because it is extremely similar to the anatomy of a human, with a few minor differences of course. A study at Cambridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Lombard, Terry, Malinoski, 2017) Discussion My hypothesis was correct in addressing how similar the fetal pig and human anatomy are, and how it helps to learn more about a human. One way in which the fetal pig is particularly similar to a human is its lungs. The fetal pig s lungs are almost identical to that of a human. They exchange oxygen for CO2, are located in the same place, and are also multi lobed. Another similarity is the pig s pericardium. The pericardium is a clear membrane that surrounds the heart, it is composed of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane. Its main purpose is the give the heart protection against infection and bacteria, and it provides lubrication as well. Every human has their heart surrounded by this, and so does a fetal pig. When dissecting, the dissector must make a light incision and remove the pericardium so the heart can be accessed. Although there are many similarities between the fetal pig and a human, there are also differences. The first difference resides in the liver. A normal human liver has four lobes: right, left, caudate, and quadrate. While a normal pig liver has five lobes: right lateral, right central, left central, left lateral, and caudate. Another main difference is that a fetal pig s colon is a spiral shape. A human s colon is shaped in a sigmoidal pattern instead ( Human/Pig Comparisons , 2004, September, goshen.edu). ... • 4. Deere quarterly sales analysis Essay TO: JB Penn, Chief Economist, Deere Co. FROM: DATE: 29 October 2014 SUBJECT: Quarterly sales analysis Following an analysis of sales data between 1995 and 2012, it is recommended that that Deere and Co. incorporate the seasonal indicator variables model to forecast future sales. In the regression analysis for this model it was determined that it was able to explain approximately 90% of the variability in past sales. Adjustments to this forecasting model can be made by incorporating overall economic climate projections, long term weather forecasts, and commodity market futures. As evidenced in the sales plot, from January 31, 1995 through July 31, 2014 John Deere has enjoyed steady sales growth with seasonal peaks recorded at end of ... The recent recognition of new nation states that were once under the control of Britain was a growing phenomenon and one that continues to play a large role in today s global politics. Since the rather recent period of these new nations, new study s have been done into the history of a) the peoples that inhabited the land before Britain, b) the way Britain occupied and control and land, and now c) post Britain. • 19. Responsible Citizenship In Ronald Wright s A Short History... Despite mankind s best effort, the history of mankind is a wrinkled mess. These wrinkles are due to mankind s inability to stop history from repeating itself several times over. However, the idea of history repeating itself is not new to the literature of today s society. There are several more causes for wrinkles in mankind s history. In fact, Ronald Wright argues that not only the idea of history repeating itself, but also the idea of mankind progressing to the point that progress becomes detrimental to mankind will result in the extinction of mankind. Therefore, Wright s argument in A Short History of Progress should shape the discussion of responsible citizenship because his viewpoints show how human ignorance allows mankind to progress towards extinction. Optical illusions started out in ancient Greece. John R. Opel made one of the earliest optical illusion in 1854. Many optical illusions have been found in cave paintings. An optical illusion is not appraised as an invention, but instead the result of a man mimicking the geometric form seen in nature. First, our eyes skim, then our brains tend to jump to conclusions. The impact on seeing something starts with light rays bouncing off an object. These rays enter the eyes through the cornea. The cornea is a transparent layer forming the front of the eye. The cornea refracts the light rays as they go through dark part of the eye, called the pupil. The iris(a flat, colored, ring shaped membrane behind the cornea of the eye, with an adjustable circular opening(pupil) in the center) contracts or expands to change the amount of light that goes through. Then, the light rays go through the lens of your eye, biconvex structure in the eye that, along with the cornea, helps to refract light to be focused on the retina. Often during the most difficult situations, a persons true character is magnified. The children of Perdido Beach lived a relatively normal life, until a radioactive explosion took the lives of everyone over the age of fourteen. In Gone, Michael Grant uses cultural, physical, and geographical surroundings to shape the psychological and moral traits of his characters as they try to save the small town of Perdido Beach, California. In his novel, Grant uses culture to shape the moral traits of Sam and Drake. As Sam, Astrid, Little Pete, Lana, Quinn, and Edilio trekked through the woods, Drake and Caine followed them in a SUV. Drake climbs out of the vehicle and pulls a gun to Astrid s head, but quickly decides to go after Sam, instead. Drake strikes Sam on the head with the gun and knocks him to the ground. As Sam is lying face down in the dirt, Drake places the barrel of the gun against the back of his knee and shoots him. Drake then fires the gun at Astrid s autistic brother, Little Pete, but fortunately, his aim was off. Grant writes, Drake s arm, the entire arm holding the gun, burst into flame (406). The creation of the Great Wall of China was actually the linking of walls that were already built by other kingdoms. It was the most ambitious engineering project ever conceived. This extraordinary project could have never been built without the unification of China. Before china was unified, everything was chaotic and disastrous. Previous to the unification of china, I don t think people could have come together to build a wall as such. Long period of economic booms brought mass suburbanization and people purchased their own home appliances, houses, and automobiles. As a matter of fact, in the background of the change of American lifestyle, there were repeated technological innovations. Successful mass productions of goods accelerated buying activities, which promoted the economic development in the United States. This was the beginning of expansion of the middle class; some people get enough money to succeed in having a happy life in the United States with family. However, when the status of family in a community was considered, proper management of money was necessary to keep their lives. In the text it states, The two project directors reply that they will not purchase the pots themselves, nor will they guarantee that authorities will not be notified. They do, however, loan the men some gasoline and a video camera for a day, to record the pots and their location. It is questionable that the two directors would only imply that they could not promise the authorities would not be notified. It is their duty to do so, according to the statements and ethical codes of many archaeological organizations. They also give the local employees gasoline and a video camera for a day leads the reader to believe that they are okay with this sort of behavior and have no intention of notifying the proper authorities. It also says that because of the video camera, many of the villagers now know where the cave is, and will likely know what ends up happening to the pots. Thereafter, if the action still goes on, massive changes happens in heart chambers, cardiac function gets worse and eventually cardiac failure emerges. IN addition to all the above, thromboembolism can be simply said as the clot formation in blood vessels which breaks and obstructs another blood vessel. A thrombus can appear either in veins or in arteries. If it is not treated properly by anticoagulants, stroke is the end result. Stroke can be categorized into three: ischaemic, haemorrhagic and TIA or mini stroke. • 29. The Fleeting of Social Status Essay Historically it has been viewed that one s place in society is fixed. This concept included the notion that not only was it impossible for one to move up in society, but also that it was difficult for one to move down the social ladder. The American dream, of course, promotes the idea that one can move up in the social ladder. However, many fail to realize that one can plummet from highest social class to the bottom, without even realizing how or why. John Cheever s The Swimmer, examines and reveals this problem through conflicts of attitude between the narrator and the viewpoint character, Neddy Merrill. The narrator conveys the attitude that social status is fleeting through the use of irony and shifts in time. Neddy s attitude, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Neddy does not remember a neighbor s surgery and does not remember selling his house. An additional concept of time that Cheever distorts has to do with the weather. The reader is told that this swim across the county begins on a warm summer day, however, there are numerous instances where the weather is not consistent with this initial description. At one point a storm rolls through during Neddy s journey, The rain had cooled the air and he shivered. The changing weather, specifically cool rain, is not consistent with the journey taking place in a days time. The reader senses that the amount of time that has passed during the swim could be even more than days or months, but even years since Neddy began his adventure. The narrator has contrasted Neddy s fixed time, with reality s time moving forward in order to show that life can pass us by. Neddy Merrill, on the other hand has a completely different attitude toward social status. The whole point of Neddy s swim is an attempt to prove that he is still an important figure in society. He was not a practical joker nor was he a fool but he was determinedly original and had a vague and modest idea of himself as a legendary figure. Neddy is clearly in denial and does not accept the fact that he is no longer the important, wealthy man he once was. This point is made painfully apparent when Neddy swims through the Halloran residence. Mrs. Halloran bluntly states that they had heard of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently, herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to grow. Of the surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
