I shall present three studies in which their findings are incompatible with Milton and
Daller s (2007) findings, which disputed the impact of cognateness on L2 word
learning. The first study was carried out by Willis Ohashi (2012) to investigate the
factors that affect the learning process of L2 words. The participants were 69 Japanese
ESL learners studying in different departments of Tokyo University for females:
Linguistics, Communication, Science, Mathematics and Psychology. They studied
English for a long period, 7 years or more. The subjects were given a multiple choice
test in order to assess the size of their recognition of L2 words, the first seven levels
of VST. They completed the test within 15 25 minutes. The researchers aimed to
examine three factors: frequency, cognateness and word length involving the
measurements of it, phonemes, syllables and letters. Additionally, they aimed to
examine the assumed mutual and intervening relationship between the three factors,
frequency, cognateness and word length, in order to examine the effect of frequency
and word length on cognates and non cognates.
The results of this study revealed that cognateness is strongly correlated with item
facility (IF), 29%, followed by frequency, 23% suggesting that cognateness and

Believe it or not there are such things as good and bad stress. Too much of either
can lead to disorders that can control our lives and can help spiral our lives out of
control. These disorders can possibly, in a sense, make us do things that we normally

I always try to imagine a situation from different perspectives. When observing
someone s actions, I try to understand the overall situation until I can say to myself
I see where they re coming from. In order to do that you need to have some
background information on that person. In most cases this involves making some
intuitive assumptions, but you must be careful, as wrong assumptions can make a
situation worse. With some background information and careful assumptions you
can try to put yourself in their shoes as the saying goes, and then judge people by
their actions. I m not saying this would be a functional design for a court of law, but
this is how I deal with small social problems.
For the most part I believe that this is an effective method for dealing with small
conflicts because usually I can understand a person s motives, and that is a step
towards finding a solution. With small conflicts it s usually a matter of conflicting
personalities. These problems tend to be harder to solve than similar problems
generated from conflicting interests, as people with conflicting personalities will do
things just in spite of the other person. Such actions tend to create a perpetual
problem.
I like my ability to see the other side of a situation, but only for small, insignificant
problems. When I look at larger social issues, a sense of hopeless pessimism spreads

Experiment 20: Reactivities of Some Alkyl Halides
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to examine the reactivities of various
alkyl halides under both SN2 and SN1 reaction conditions. The alkyl halides will be
examined based on the substrate types and solvent the reaction takes place in.
Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained
and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2
bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and
bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15% sodium iodide in acetone
was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube labeled for
that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix
thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the
solutions formed a precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes
were placed inside of a hot bath at about 50В°C. After one minute, the test tubes
were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any test tubes formed a
precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the
experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the
following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2

The topic that was chosen was turbidity. Turbidity is the pollution in water. Turbidity
is commonly associated with cloudiness or haziness in water. The pollution that
studied was dirt and how it affected fish. It is important because it is killing our
wildlife. There needs to get teams of people each month going out and cleaning up
the water. If the dirt in the water affected the fishthen the experimental group would
die. During the time of researching this topic, it was discovered how different this
world has changed, the types of creatures have been affected by pollution.

In this project, dirt had been used to change the conditions of the environment and
see how these fish would react. During which there was an opposite tank with
normal water, a filter and 5 fish. The other tank had been used with a container, dirt,
and five fish as well.
During this projects it was tested to see how each fish would react to the water.

Roles Of Men And Women
When you think of the roles for men and women in a relationship, what do you
think of? Do you see both men and women working full time jobs or do you only
see the man working and the wife staying at home? Roles are continuing to change
in many ways. People can choose to either get married young or wait until they are
older. We get this picture in our head of how our lovelives are supposed to be from
the media. Some people consider their jobs to be just as important as their
relationships.
Expectations of relationship roles of men and women have changed greatly from
in the past. Katherine Davis stated, Wilson and I are fortunate to have a
relationship that allows us to be as committed to our professions as we are to each
other (Davis 257). I believe that is the way it is now in the world, both the men
and women focusing on their careers. In the past, men were expected to go to work
and provide for their families. The women were expected to stay home and take
care of the house and the children if they had any. Some people take the same
route that Katherine Davis took. She was not necessarily looking for love and she
was focused on her career. She then met her fiancГ© at her summer internship.
Back in the day, women were expected to find husbands and have kids as soon as
possible. They were unable to just sit around and wait while being occupied by their
jobs. Love can be perceived in many different ways. Part of the reason for that is the

Dark
Both of Dickinson s poems Before I got my eye put out and We Grow Accustomed
to the Dark dementraste the literal loss of sight or physically stumbling in the
darkness yet in a metaphoric way. In her first poem, Dickinson expresses how much
she misses seeing and how she feels without vision, she even states certain things.
She has no other way to see them because of her lost in sight, all she has is her
memories. As for her second poem, Dickinson goes on to talk about how our eyes
adjust from lightto dark and how we use our sight.
In Dickinson s Before I Got My Eye Put Out, she has the loss of her sight and is in a
metaphoric darkness. Her poem goes on to express how she lost her sense of vision

I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has
grown over the past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products
from Apple such as Apple TV and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the
new direction they have chosen to take with their marketing and what it has helped

This was just the start for Apple s new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer
market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product.
Everybody had to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple
joined up with U2 to help promote their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great
example of apple s new marketing plan, going for the entertainment and media side of
the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they
started to sell songs on itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue
throughout the early 21st century and Apple was on the for front of helping fix that.
In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV, two revolutionary products that
is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer
the capability to wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream
virtually any video, song or website on the internet through their TV. This is the
new are of wave of media technology allowing people to watch whatever they want
whenever they want without any regular scheduled programming. This is also a
major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly how many
views each show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item.
