Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again
Wake Up America As we age, our lives are divided into stages with inescapable hardships. The most
difficult of these stages has proven to be adolescence and young adulthood, the years in which our
personalities are defined. This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually
becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children
and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties
are holding tight to the freedom of childhood by depending on their parents, refusing to settle down,
and avoiding responsibility. Through their lack of independence, inability to commit and their
indolence, certain action must be taken against adolescents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor
that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of
independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of
those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to
the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute
to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing
stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any
prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch,
(par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the
value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after
college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L.
Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study
depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their
children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work
to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it
must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those
receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially
teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are

The Business Models And Core Competencies Of Google
1. Compare the business models and core competencies of Google, Apple and Facebook.
Google, Apple, Facebook and each have different business models. Each company focuses on
different things that makes them unique and stand out to their customers.
Google s business model is geared towards mobile computing and the Internet. The company wants
versatile smartphones that allow access to the Web and the use of applications that can be used on
different devices. Google also has strength in advertising, in that they appeal to many potential
customers on the Web.
Apple s business model is geared towards the hardware and software of its products. Also they
focus on its mobile software applications, which is widely popular among customers due to the app
store iPhone users. the applications on the app store are available for user on apple products and
one of a kind compared to the less popular applications offered by Google and Facebook
Facebook relies on ad advertisements in their business model. Facebook platform empowers
developers to build applications and web sites that integrate with Facebook to reach its global
network of users and to build personalized and social products.
2. Why is mobile computing so important to these three firms? Evaluate the mobile strategies of
each firm. Mobile computing is important to Google, Apple, and Facebook, mainly because the
widespread use of smartphones and other mobile platforms has increased tremendously. Pretty soon,

Education as a Social Institution
Education as a Social Institution
The social institution referred to as Education is comprised of the school system and it is in the
school system where knowledge and skills are developed along with cultural and social values and
norms. Additionally, through the school system culture and society continue and further those
social values and norms thus fulfilling a need prescribed by society. The purpose of this paper is to
examine how the theories of functionalism, conflict, and interactionism perceive the social
institution of education. As the functionalism theory states, each social institution exists in order to
fulfill a social need in addition without the social institution in question, social order would falter.

A student will not excel academically if they do not enjoy attending school in general, or attending
specific classes therefore, what are some causes for a student feeling this way. It is evident that the
interactions between the students and instructors play a large role in how the students feel about
classes and school in general. Two major factors come into play here and they are, the instructors
social and emotional support for students and the nature of [the instructors ] expectations for
students academic performance (Hallinan, 2008). This interaction between student and instructor is
of great value as it influences how a student perceives themself and their environment within the
school system. For example, students that perceive they are being overlooked or their capabilities
are being undervalued by the instructor will perform poorly. Conversely, when an instructor shows
the student some attention, and shows them they are capable and of value as a student, the student
will perform to the best of their ability. However, for either of these scenarios to persist the
instructor must be consistent with their interactions with the student. Moreover, if the instructor s
expectations and interactions are not consistent with regard to the student then the ability in
predicting the student s success in school or their feelings toward school becomes problematic. The
predictability of a student s feelings

Film Adaptation Of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s frightening tale of Count Dracula has struck horror into the hearts of many since it
was originally penned. In 1987, Bram Stoker wrote the revolutionary tale Dracula that played off
the fears of the people of the era. The plot and characters that make the novel great also translate
nearly perfectly to cinematic adaptations. Starting in the early 1900 s, directors have done their
best to portray the terror that the original novel inspired. Francis Ford Coppolas Bram Stoker s
Draculawas released in 1992 and follows the book s storyline very closely. However, to appeal to
his generations ideals on relationships and sex, Coppola made some changes to the plot; however,
many of the characters and themes are kept intact. He also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is much different form the novel version of the Count, who Harker describes as a monster
will wants to satiate his lust for blood, and create a new and ever widening circle of semi demons
to batten on the helpless (Stoker 53) Another difference that is different in Dracula s film version is
how he is killed. In the book, Harker slits his throat after a climatic chase and battle, and
immediately turns to dust (Stoker 325). This battle still occurs in Coppola s version; however,
he is eventually killed by Mina and the act is seen as one of compassion and kindness. Stoker
does not explore this idea in his novel. Stoker does not explore this idea in the novel, as doing so
would have taken away from the frightening, undead character that he was trying to create. This is
not to say that Coppola was wrong to go this route, however, only that the perception of vampires
had shifted and he needed something to fit along with this shift. On top of this, Coppola also
decided to make his movie much more erotic portrayal of many characters in the film. This starts
with the brides, who have a much more sexual way of approaching Jonathan than in the book. The
sexual tone continues into how Lucy is depicted in the film. Lucy originally had more of a sexual
undertone than the other characters in the book. For example, she

Requirements And Issue Management Systems
1.Requirements and Issue Management Systems
Requirements and issue management systems allow managers or leaders to classify and affiliate
characteristics with them, and to establish and evaluate dependencies and other common ties.
Requirements set the stage for a project and issue management is an important process of
identifying and resolving issues (Cook, 2015). Shaw Industries used an agile methodology called
Scrum to improve relationships between IT and business partners to ensure project success (O
Brien Marakas, 2011). IT used this tool to work collectively as a group and determine which
project will give Shaw Industries the best value. They divided the project into segments: 30 days to
complete a series of tasks. Once the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IT must have something to show during its effort, and if they deliver, this will promote a positive
relationship.
A healthy organization is one that involves people who are loyal to one another, never judges,
expresses genuine appreciation across their organizational structure, assists others with critical tasks
and never places blame on someone (Williams, 2013). When businesses make and keep promises,
they see strong trust and respect across the organization. If they often make commitments but fail to
keep them, people will see frustration and self starving behavior (Williams, 2013). Shaw Industries
focused on consistency to build a trusting relationship with their client. They delivered priorities by
an explicit deadline and in turn, trust was earned. A customer s ability to trust is dependent upon
showing the customer that your behavior is consistent and persistent over time. When a customer
can predict your behavior, that customer is more likely to trust you (James, 2012).
While the agile system was the popular choice for Shaw Industries, this certainly does not mean it is
the best choice for every organization. There are hundreds of Requirements and Issue Management
software available. SpiraTest, RequirementsHub, DevSpec, Gatherspace and Bugzilla are just a few
that are popular today (Top Requirements Management Software Products, 2015). Each has their
own set of tools and configurations to assist project managers. An effective issue management

Mental Health Professional With Multiple Years
This paper is an overview of mental health professional with several years experience to be a
consultant to a local district superintendent. Based on information gather from a phone call from
the superintendent regarding three students and a teacher that was severely stabbed by a student.
This has been in the media for about two weeks. During this time, the superintendent has been
receiving complaints from people in the community, parents and teacher stating that security
measures are not adequate and that discipline for the student are lax. My responsibility as a MHP
consultant is to develop a plan of action, intervention and my recommendation to the
superintendent. To help improve communication within the community about the school, student,
teachers and administrate staffs. I.Myrick s Approach and Egin Model II.My reason for
choosing this model based on the information I received from the superintendent. About the

The Know Nothings gained support from blue collar American workers, who were fearful of
losing their job to Irishmen, which was a justified belief at the time. Lewis Levin, the first known
leader of the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without
question, which would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know

as noted by Bruce Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and
the origins of the know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving
drunkards, poor material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists

comforting, exculpatory rituals (notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the
dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that
the common man would share their view of the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have

Pallas s Cats
The non fiction article Little Cats with Big Attitude was written by Fiona Sunquist. The main
idea of the article is how these tiny Pallas s cats are actually vicious wild animals. The Pallas s
cats are named after Peter Pallas, a German naturalist. They live in China and parts of Mongolia.
These cats have a bulky body and a thick layer of fur. The fur coat is especially heavy in the
belly and tail area, this helps the body to keep warm during cold seasons. Their appearance gives
off a cute vibe, but they re actually violent wild cats. Pallas s cats favorite foods are pikas and
small rodents. Its round ears are the same level as its head, making it unnoticeable when it peers
over rocks. Plus, their pale fur makes them blend in perfectly with rocks. Pallas s cats can be
invincible to its prey with such hiding ability. They are incredible hunters, too. They would creep

Comparing Carl Jung s And Isabel Briggs Myers
Personality tests, and more specifically, one that follows Carl Jung s and Isabel Briggs Myers
typological approach, can be another means of exploring the possibility of gaining understanding
about ourselves. In my own assessment, I discovered results that uncovered the reality that the test
does have some merit for consideration and application when it concerns personality delineation. In
conducing the test on myself, I discovered that it deemed me more extraverted (ENFJ) than I
assumed, at least in a self reflective, historical sense. However, this isn t surprising to me because
of all the changes Jesus has brought about in my life. Furthermore, the results also demonstrate that
I possess entrepreneurial ability as well as concern for others.

Strategies of Emotion Management For this week s discussion post, I will be discussing how
nurses use emotion management to protect their own psychological and emotional well being on
and off the job. In reference to the article, venting to peers is the most recognized method of
managing high levels of emotions, this is done venting to colleagues, who can relate because they
too share the same environment. Another equally effective method often used is reconstructing
difficult situations into a positive light. For instance, a patient who has passed away can be
recognized as a relief of suffering (Hammonds Cadge, 2014, p. 166). Another aspect of stress
management we have to consider is how we deal with emotional issues off the job. Nurses

There was a marked improvement in China s economy. To further increase and attract foreign
investment, the Chinese government increased its numbers of experimental, special economic
zoned cities in which foreigners could operate a business. There were, however, restrictions set
forward by the government. One restriction in 1996 was that all foreign businesses would have
to be in a joint venture or other type of cooperative agreement with at least one Chinese partner,
with that Chinese partner getting a stake greater than 51%. In August 1995, Wal Mart, the great
American retail chain and Middle America success story, arrived in China, establishing a joint
venture with Shenzhen International Fiduciary Investment Co, Ltd, China. In the following
year, 1996, Wal Mart opened its first supercentre and a Sam s Club, its members only big box
store, in the special economic zone of Shenzhen, in the southernmost Guangdong Province.
However, it took the Chinese government s removal of further trade restrictions for foreign
retailers in 2004 for Wal Mart to kick start its expansion plans. Three years later, in 2007, Wal
Mart acquired a 35% stake in Trust Mart, a Taiwanese owned chain of retail supercentres
operating in the Middle Kingdom. By 5 August 2010, Wal Mart s presence in China grew to 189

Essay on Sandra Ciseneros
Sandra Ciseneros It was a cold and windy day, a perfect day to uncover secrets and truths about
writers I had heard of, but new little about. I entered the library to escape the weather and lose
myself in books about Sandra Ciseneros and the characters she creates in her poems and stories.
I began my search at a computer resource station, and then absorbed myself in the materials it
provided, which were biographies, criticisms, and the works of Cisneros. Initially, the computer
resource station provided me only with Cisnero s texts or simple the books she had written. They
were all listed in the card catalogue, and I was reassured that if the library had her books, than

I decided I would start with her work and then see what the critics had to say.
Her book s The House on Mango Street and Loose Woman: Poems enthralled me the most, and
gave me a sense of her genre and style. They portrayed her concentration on culture or ethninticity
and gender issues. A Stanza from her poem Loose Woman really tickled my fancy and is an
excellent representation of these two themes: They say I m macha, hell on wheels, viva la vulva,
fire and brimstone, man hating, devastating, boogey woman lesbian. Not necessarily, but I like the
compliment. ( 112)
In this poem Cisneros displays a common stereotype of women in a satirical way that is easy to
identify with, and in a sense empowers women rather than degrading them. In doing this, she keeps
her cultural heritage by using both English, and her own native language, Spanish to define her
views. She maintains this sort of style throughout her poems and pursues gender issues and cultural
identity with ferocious vitality and purpose.
Although she does not use written Spanish in The house on Mango Street, her characters are
Mexican and represent the culture in their lifestyles, views, and upbringing. The story depicts the
coming of age of a girl named Esperanza, who is searching for stability and a place for herself in
the world. Cisneros explores the life of a Mexican girl and the things that shaped her morality and
sense of

Knowledge Management for Engineering and Technology
Introduction
Knowledge management defines the current use of the terms and identifies the core concept of
managing knowledge in an organization (Atwood, 2009). The goal of Knowledge Management
(KM) initiative is to improve the collective intelligence, or collective mind of the organizations and
the resulting systematic coordination of knowledge ensures that the organization meets the
customers needs (Quinn 1992, as cited in Maier 2004). According to the case study Langley Files,

In the Langley files case study, KM system cannot replace human judgments; the CIA perceive
the KM as a tool that can be used to produce better analysis and reduce errors like the accidental
bombing of the Chinese embassy. The man is to error, although, good management and
availability of reliable and updated KM database can be used to reduce the judgmental mistakes
that are made due to lack of enough resources or using a wrong source to make a vital decision.
What the Company Hope to Achieve Through Knowledge Management
The CIA aims to achieve uniformity of records, in the case study the chief of records and
classification management, Christopher Olsen, states that lack of uniformity hinders knowledge
sharing efforts; it is hard to even allocate a green bean inside the grocery store if you are not
aware of how they are arranged. The first objective in implementing the KM in CIA was to ensure
that all the information available is systematically arranged to reduce the time taken to locate data.
The second objective is developing a procedure for doing away with antiquated documents. In the
article provides, the CIA is required by the law to store all the documents that explain their action.
The records are bulky and cumbersome to analyze while searching for a particular material
necessary for the issues at hand. The database of CIA has several articles which are stored as

The Health Belief Model For Osteoporosis Prevention Among...
As the average age of the world s population continues to increase, it is important to educate the
youth on how to protect themselves from preventable diseases. The greying of America will
influence change in America s healthcare system as the rates for diseases such as osteoporosis
begin to rise. In the article titled, Application of the Health Belief Model for Osteoporosis
Prevention among Middle SchoolGirl Students, Garmsar, Iran, the authors assessed the
effectiveness of a health educationintervention based on the health belief model. Their focus was on
reducing the risk of osteoporosis development in female adolescents.
Osteoporosis is a disease which is common in older women due to lack of estrogen production
and lower calcium levels. Osteoporosis is often referred to as a silent disease as an individual is
usually asymptomatic. This disease is one that make the bones pours and brittle due to inadequate
levels of necessary maintenance hormones. Due to bone formation occurring mostly in childhood, it
is essential to target the younger population with educational intervention programs. If you can get
the students to understand that preparing their bones while their young is important, you can
increase their level of self efficacy and perceived seriousness about such diseases. Not preparing
your bones can make one more susceptible to such diseases like osteoporosis.
The study population consisted of 206 middle school girls, all from different middle schools

Non-Ruminant Animal Digestive System Differences
Non Ruminant and Ruminant Animals Digestive System Differences
Non Ruminant
Non ruminant animals are just like humans, they digest their food just the once if they are able to
digest it and it is good food and the one stomach works on it.
The non ruminant digestive system works so that our stomach churns the food so it is into tiny
little pieces, and makes sure that the food we eat is fully digested and the stomach muscles contract
in order to churn food. The small intestine then absorbs and digests 90% of the food we eat and
then absorbs minerals and nutrients, the large intestine then absorbs water from the remaining
indigested food and transports waste material from our bodies, the rectum then temporarily stores
our faeces until it is full and then faeces excrete from our anuses.

Joy Is Not Just Happiness
In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have
diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to
provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more
significance in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that
oftentimes happiness and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause,
nor are they the same emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and
pleasure is when he states Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis
72). This look into the root of joy demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex
and not always a fully positive emotion. There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it
does not diminish the great properties of joy. Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as
Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for something longer ago or further away or
still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at
the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also
thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with our experiences. As he learned more
about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he realizes that this was something
quite different from the original Joy.

George T-Shirts Essay
Question 1: What are the possible financial outcomes if George orders 5,000 shirts, 7,500 shirts
and 10,000 shirts, respectively?
Based on the information given in the case, the expected number of attendees is:
E(x) = 80,000*0.25 + 50,000*0.5 + 20,000*0.25 = 50,000 people
Selling price per shirt: $100/12 = $8.33
Discount price: $1.5
Scenario 1:
Assumption: George orders 5000 T shirts; cost: $17,750; the number of attendees buy his T shirts
are 5%, 10% and 15% respectively
The possible financial outcomes under scenario 1 are as follows:
Scenario 2:

How much is perfect information worth to him?
George would use the information to maximize his profit. In question 1, George did not have
perfect information about the future, therefore his best bet was to take the conservative route
based on assumptions, and estimations. For instance, the profit he made based on the assumption
in scenario 1 (50,000 people would come, 10% will buy his T shirt) is $23,900. If he had perfect
information, say he knew that the number of attendees would be 80,000 and 10% of them would
buy a shirt from him, he would place an order of exactly 8000 T shirts.
Assumption: He pays $5 for one extra T shirt in excess of 7,500 pcs. * Cost = $25,250 + 500*$5 =
$27,750 * Revenue = 8,000*8.33 = $66,640 * Profit = $66,640 $27,750 = $38,890
Perfect information is worth: $38,890 $23,917 = $14,973
Question 4: Assume George makes T shirts for 30 events per year:
Should George quit his day job and become a T shirt entrepreneur full time?
I will need the following information to address this question. 1) How much is his income at his
current job? 2) Is the income from making T shirts more or less substantial than his current job?
3) Based on the question he potentially has an event every 12 days. How big are these events? Are
they all as lucrative as the current event? 4) What is the competitive landscape? Is he the only
special events T shirt maker? If not, how competitive is it? 5) Are there any potential changes

The Three Reasons Of Chivalry In The Modern Society
In this technologically advanced world, there is an element that is missing. In everyday life,
there used to be chivalry: holding open doors, pulling a chair out for a woman, and even the
phrase ВЁladies go first.ВЁ Chivalry is courteous acts and gallant behavior, especially toward
women, also known as the gentleman. There are very few modern gentleman and that is the
problem with today s world. Not to mention, all of society has lost respectfor each other. There are
three main reasons that chivalryhas disappeared, the addiction to social media, the general lack of
manners, and finally, women themselves. There is no way to solve a problem that no one cares
about. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of people care about chivalry, and the basic respect for all
men. Ergo, there is no guaranteed solution, but maybe if the general public agree to teach some
sort of chivalrous content in public schools, we could start something big. The first reason that
there are very few gentleman left, is the fact that this generation relies so heavily on social media.
According to a study from the family technology education non profit group, Common Sense
Media, ВЁteens are spending more than one third of their days using media such as online video
or music nearly nine hours on average,ВЁ therefore people are distracted by their devices.
Individuals spend so much time on their phone, that they do not feel like talking to people they
would rather text. Even so, there is no worry anymore because

The Good, the Bad and the Perverse
What is natural and unnatural can both be considered good and bad. Something like a disease is
natural yet it is bad. Antibiotics are not natural, but they are good. Just because something is
natural, it cannot be considered good . Something that is deemed unnatural can only be
considered in some situations. That is when normal or perverse come into play, when something
can t exactly be named unnatural. The concept may be questioned because the answer for what
is measured normal is unclear. (Trevas, pg. 229) Something being perverse doesn t have to
mean it is bad; it is immoral or moral in different situations. The actual meaning of perversion is
an alteration or corruption of an original cause, meaning or state. A perversion takes something
from being originally good, to then being bad. Good or bad, a perversion has no connection to
morality. A type of perversion is a sexual perversion. Different religions, a persons attitude towards
things; may probably have different ideas on perversion. Any action that brings sexual pleasure,
but has little or no chance in resulting in conception is considered perverse. (Trevas, pg. 230)
Under that statement, a lot of things may then be viewed as perverse. Masturbation, same sex
sexual relations, and the use of contraceptives, all things that can be argued to be natural; can still
be considered perverse under that definition. Sexual perversion can also include sex with animals,
tangible objects, and plants fall into that category.

A Comparison Between William Wordsworth s Upon Westminster...
A Comparison Between William Wordsworth s Upon Westminster Bridge and William Blake s
London
The English Romantic period spanned between 1789 and 1824. This period was not so called
until the mid 19th century when readers began to see six different poets as part of the same
movement. These poets were William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord
Byron, Percy Shelly and John Keats.
Some aspects of Romantic poetry were; there was an increasing interest in nature; there was an
increased interest in landscape and scenery; human moods were connected to the moods of nature.
Although the six poets cohered to create the English Romantic movement they were all extremely

In Upon Westminster Bridge, Wordsworth uses the format of a Petrarchan sonnetwhereas in
London, William Blake uses the format of long hymnal measure.
It is clear that this poem is a sonnet because it has fourteen lines and ten syllables in each line. In
Upon Westminster Bridge the rhyme scheme is abbaabba cdcdcd and is split up into an octave and
then a sestet and this means that is a Petrarchan sonnet. If you take a closer look at the poem you
will notice that the octave and the sestet are simply two whole sentences. This helps to maintain the
flowing rhythm of the poem and better defines the difference between the octave and sestet. In this
form the subject is projected and developed in the octave and then the sestet must release the
tension which has been built up. The point at which I think the tension is released is in the final
two lines.
Dear God! The very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
Wordsworth added this final couplet in order to get the epigrammatic effect which is characteristic
of the Shakespearean sonnet which is a sonnet that contains three quatrains and a couplet.
In London, long hymnal measure is used. It has a rhyme scheme of abab which helps to maintain a
steady rhythm and pace throughout the poem.
Upon Westminster Bridge tries to give an image of the scene whereas

Exploring Strategies for Teaching Essay
Teaching is a strategizing act of service. It aids students in understanding the mysteries of certain
subjects and shapes their mindsets on how they will apply the knowledge he or she acquire about
the subject. However, in order to do this act, the teacher will have to have an idea about teaching
and learning and apply it in his or her instruction. Conversely, instruction of information should be
done in a manner that the student can explicate the information that the teacher is elucidating. This
instruction will require objectives for the student and strategies to execute those objectives. The
concept and skill that I would instruct would be counseling theories. Counseling theories are

Moreover, these strategies are consistent with my personal philosophy and style of teaching. The
first strategy I would use would be lecturing student about the philosophical aspect of the theory.
The class would partake in group discussions concerning this part of the theory that was discussed
in the lecture. According to Gose (2009), I would use either the Playing the Devil s Advocate
strategy or the Look for the Contradiction strategy in the group discussion to assess how well the
student understands the philosophical aspects of the theory. Moreover, this would help me to see if
the student understood what I was lecturing. Another strategy that I would utilize is the Socrates
questioning. Griffith and Frieden (2000) noted that teachers could promote reflective thinking
through Socrates questioning. I believe that reflective thinking would stimulate the student to think
critically about the implications of applying certain counseling theories. Furthermore, I would use
role plays as a strategy to stimulate critical thinking and reflective thinking. I believe that students
should interact with one another to exchange ideas and points of views concerning the subject. This
would aid them in thinking critically about the subject and also help them to get a better
understanding of the subject material. Yang, Newby, and Bill (2005) noted that Socrates
questioning induce critical thinking skills

child abuse aids is a direct cause of substance abuse in adults later in life, in addition to evidence

Ukraine And The Soviet Union
Since establishing independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine has experienced its most
prolonged and deadly crisis which has deconstructed government plans to create closer economic
and trade ties with the European Union while also enticing a global impasse between Russia and
the Western powers. The roots of the crisis stem from decades of inefficient and corrupt
governance, an unbalanced economic system dominated by oligarchs, heavy reliance on Russia, and
socioreligious differences between the Eastern and Western parts of Ukraine. Following the coup d

Through the compounding effects of corruption in the Ukrainian leadership and the oligarchical
control of the Ukrainian economy, half of the country s gross domestic product (GDP) was
under the influence of the top fifty richest in Ukraine. In 2004, as a result of an allegedly rigged
presidential election, a wave of reformation swept through Ukraine in what became known as the
Orange Revolution. The opposition candidate Viktor Yanukovych led mass street protests as a
result of the election. Viktor Yushchenko was brought in to power as a result of the rigged
presidential election, however conflicts within the political elite resulted in a re election when the
Supreme Court of Ukraine annulled the election results. A destabilized Ukraine resulted in the
hampering of reformation and left it unprepared to manage the economic crisis of 2008. The
Orange Revolution along with the series of economic crises shadowed the already present divide
between a European leaning and Russian leaning Ukraine. Following these events, Yanukovych

Modern Media And Its Impact On Society
Most countries around the world have cities and people that exist within media saturated spheres.
Consumerism and commodification promote items to most economic classes, and through
marketing they are urged to purchase and consume the products advertised. Japan is no exception
to this, but there is a slight difference that appears to set Japan apart ever so slightly. In Japan,
there is a group of consumers, sometimes regarded as a subculture, known as the otaku. For now,
just bear in mind that the otaku are a group of consumers, often male, who purchase items
associated with popular cartoons, videogames, and comics. They purchase these items and care for
them with a reverence comparable to Western fandoms. The otaku, however, are more than fans.
They engage in normal fandom behaviors, such as consuming popular media, creating works
associated with the media they are a fan of, and supporting the creator or studio that produces the
media they are fans of. In addition to these behaviors, the otaku also live in a society that is heavily
influenced by rigid societal structures and tradition. With these elements in mind, the otaku can be
examined in a myriad of ways. Historicism, sociology, anthropology, fandom studies, and feminism
are just a few of the ways in which to examine this group. Many may wonder why studying this
group may be beneficial, and the reason is that this dissertation has found just one of many reasons
to examine the otaku. The reason is that their

Mini Ice Age Research Paper
According to a study performed by the University of Northumbria (https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/)
of the United Kingdom, Earth s northern hemisphere should be experiencing a mini ice age in the
next 15 years. However, new research shows that this may not be the case after all. This could just
be a case of confusing causation with correlation, but that doesn t forgive the phenomenal news
being released without confirmation and having the claim be refuted mere days later.
The Original Claim
The claim of the new mini ice age first came about after the UK s National Astronomy Meeting
(https://www.ras.org.uk/component/gem/?id=338) suggested that the sun may have a period of
significantly lowered output. This is not a new claim. Solar activity fluctuations ... Show more

On the other hand, even basic science classes teach us that correlation does not equal causation.
Why This is Wrong
The lowered amount of solar activity in the 1600 s is referred to as the Maunder Minimum (https:
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maunder_Minimum). The Maunder Minimum was a period of time
where the sunspots were at their lowest in number, appearing as only around 50 as opposed to
their current average of 40,000 to 50,000 over a course of 30 years. This decrease in sunspots
happened approximately the same time as the Little Ice Age, however, the ice age started nearly a
century before the Maunder Minimum occurred and lasted long after it ended.
Solar Change and the Effects on Earth
That s not to say that links between solar activity and Earth s climate don t exist, however; they
clearly do. There are just other factors that may be more influential. For example, the amount of
power the sun produces, or solar irradiance, is reduced by only 0.1% during this time of less
frequent sunspots. However, the amount of ultraviolet output over a solar cycle can deposit energy
in our stratosphere that is a direct causation of colder winters in Europe at

Betsy Ross Speech
Even though Betsy Ross is best known for creating and sewing the American flag, this has never
been officially proven. However, there is a great amount of evidence that she was very
influential in the making of the flag. These words by her say it all, Our hearts aching, our
prayers praying, our flags waving, never forget. 1 Elizabeth Griscom, also known as Betsy Ross
was born on January 1, 1752 in Philadelphia to her loving parents Rebecca and Samuel Griscom.
She was the eighth child out of seventeen.2 The same year she was born was the year the Liberty
Bell arrived in Philadelphia. Her father had the honor to assist in building the tower that
surrounded the bell where it was placed. Her parents were part of the Quaker religion, also
known as the Society of Friends, which left Betsy living differently than the colonist. With the
determined Quaker religion, she was not allowed to attend plays or read storybooks because it
promoted a world of fantasy rather than the story of the Bible. The Quakers also forbid music
within their culture because it provided no movement to the people and developed corrupt
thoughts within an individual.3 During this time period many families were fairly large, but a
majority of the children often died from diseases at a very young age. In Betsy s family only nine
of the children survived to be adults. Every Sunday and Thursday the Quakers would attend a
church service that lasted two hours long. The men and women sat facing each other, while

Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay
Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare
During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal
society. Women were subordinate to any man in their life, whether it was a husband or a father.
However, Shakespeare creates female roles in his plays that often steer away from the common
script. These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them
in their lives. In Merchant of Venice, young Portiaand Jessica are two examples of these strayed
female characters. They feel trapped in the hands of their father s and do their best to break free of
that hold. In Much Ado About Nothing, Hero is a young womanwho feels her relationship with ...

This shows the extreme version of a rebellious teenager in order to escape her father. Once
Shylock finds out his daughter has disappeared with his money and jewels, he is outwardly

were dead at [his] foot, and the jewels in her ear! Would she were hearsed at [his] foot, and the
ducats in her coffin! (Act III, Scene i, 76 79). Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities
in this relationship, however, structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and
Jessica. Diane Dreher author of Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in
Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed
through his constant talk on commerce and his precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that
ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops down a basket filled with money and
jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act of reprisal, however, Dreher
argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and disloyal, unfilial, a thief;
frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These two characters know
that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both are very determined
characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly trying to receive
justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he demands that he
receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through. This passion can
be seen in Jessica as well when she is determined to marry Lorenzo despite her father s wishes.

Hilary is another matter altogether. Hilary is only three years old and doesn t understand why her

Muslim or full blooded Iranian Mrs. Ardavi still had no problem treating Hilary as if she was
Iranian and a part of the family. Hilary seemed to be the largest commonality between the women.
The scene in which Hilary seemed to bring the women closer the most is when Mrs. Ardavi first

She had black, tumbling hair, long black lashes, and a skin of a tone they called wheat colored,
lighter than Hassan s. In this part Mrs. Ardavi shows that Hilary is not part of any real category

status as being clean or unclean is just not discussed.
Hilary was also the main subject of some of the disagreements between Elizabeth and Mrs. Ardavi.

which Mrs. Ardavi had at one point used on her own sons or sometimes suggested.

Mayan God Research Paper
On the other side of the world, the Mayans recognized maize as an important part of their culture.
It was a staple crop that could be grown throughout the Mesoamerican landscape and provides
rich nutritional carbohydrates to Mayan diets. The crop was so central in the way of life of the
Mayan people that it was often depicted in the myths. In mythology, Mayans believe that maize
was the crop that the Mayan gods had used in order to create humans after the failure of mud and
wood. Maize was considered the very staff of human life ( Maya Religion. ). Thus, Mayans crafted
the mythological figure known as the Maize God. Maize was depicted in the story of the Hero

The promise was kept as Hun Hunahpu became the Maize god, a dying and reviving god figure,
who appears on earth as corn (Mark). He is depicted as a young and handsome man in one
season but at the end of his life, he is represented as a harvested head of corn, which the Mayans
used in offering. The Mayans then, planted the seeds of the Maize, which would allow the
Maize god to be reborn once again with the help of the earth s regenerative forces. The Mayan
maize god was not simply associated with the maize crop but he represented the beliefs of the
Mayan people. The life cycle of the Maize god represented the different life cycles that the
Mayans used to understand their environment: the cycle of rebirth, the cycle of seasons and
agriculture, and the human life cycle ( The Maya Maize God. ). The Maize God also represented
the nature of relationships among the Mayans, there had to be death in order to create life. The
death of the Maize God gives life to the people who eat him. The way the Mayans viewed the
figure of the Maize god is similar to the way the people in Scotland viewed the barley crop, which

Drinking Water Affecting Birds Osmotic Balance
Providing electrolytes in the drinking water alters the birds osmotic balance in a way that enhances
thirst (Teeter and Belay, 1996). Drinking saline water increases sodium concentrations in plasma
which is capable, at certain levels, of changing the osmolality of body fluids. The osmolality of the
extracellular fluid is controlled primarily by the concentration of sodium and its attendant anions
(Verbalis, 2003). The increased tonicity of the extracellular fluid increases the osmotic pressure on
the body cells that may result in drawing water from the cells into the extracellular fluid. To prevent
this, certain neurons (osmo Na+ receptors) detects the concentration of sodium in extracellular fluid
and triggers osmotic thirst to help restore the body fluids to a normal state (Stachenfeld, 2008). In
humans, a minimal change (2 3%) in plasma tonicity is capable of inducing thirst (Stachenfeld,
2008).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, during the subsequent days (day 25 and 31), the enhanced drinking behavior was noted
only in the 0.4% NaCl group; while, birds provided with 0.7% NaCl returned to water

consumption which occurred after an initial increase in the 0.7% NaCl group may suggest
induction of an adaptive response due to a reduced ability to tolerate higher sodium levels in

The Role Of Baseball In The 1970 s
One of the most important years for baseball in the 70s was 1974. Here are some examples of
why the 1974 baseball season is so important. During the 1974 season, baseball made history and
many of ways. The most memorable person was Hank Aaron, Aaron broke Babe Ruth s total
home run record (714). The pitcher that everyone was scared of was Nolan Ryan and the king of
steal that year was Lou Brock. Hank Aaron went into the 1974 season one shy of the home run
record. The Braves started the season on the road, so they did not play Aaron, the Braves wanted
him to get the record at home. The Braves got in trouble with the league and they made the Braves
put him in the lineup. In Aaron s first at bat, his first swing, homerun (1970s Sports History)....

the second game of the Series. The Mets had won the game in the 12th inning, after Andrews
committed two errors, scoring four runs. In his anger, Finley attempted to place Andrews on the
disabled list, saying he had a sore shoulder, and Andrews signed an agreement. Commissioner
Bowie Kuhn did not allow Andrews to be placed on the disabled list, and fined Finley for three
reasons (1970s Sports History). The 1970s had so much more important things to influence the
game but 1973 and 1974 were the 2 most important years. The coolest nickname ever is Mr.

Compare and Contrast the Views of Native Americans and...
During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Europeans started to come over to the new world,
they discovered a society of Indians that was strikingly different to their own. To understand how
different, one must first compare and contrast some of the very important differences between
them, such as how the Europeans considered the Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while,
considering themselves civilized. The Europeans considered that they were model societies, and
they thought that the Indians society and culture should be changed to be very similar to their own.
The Europeans and the Indians had very contrasting ideas of personal wealth and ownership. The

This was a very sharp contrast to the Europeans, whom had for centuries, been the top of their
social hierarchy. In Europe, the women had a very relatively primitive, limited role in society.
They were not allowed to attend or partake in political affairs, with very few exceptions. Now, on
the other hand, in Indian society there was a council of chiefs, whom was all male, but they were
appointed by an elder women. Also, during their deliberation over issues, the males made the final
decision, but would be expelled from the council, if they didn t conclude to the same decision that
the elder woman came to. The women s main job in Indian society, was being in charge of
cultivation of, harvest of, and distribution of food. When the men left to go hunting, women were
left to run society. The Europeans simply believed that the males were far superior to the family,
which is why women could not have jobs, and were left to only clean, cook, and various other
household chores. Coming from an economic standpoint, the Europeans and Indians were such
total opposites, it often led to misunderstanding. Indians had very large trading routes well before
the time of European colonization. Their experience in trade only made it easier to exchange
goods with the Europeans. For Indians, trading was a way to acquire goods they wanted, but also
a way to share the wealth of their land with other tribes that didn t have the same items to trade as
they did. To the

The Benefits Of The Olympic Games
The Olympics have come up with a problem and need a solution fast. The problem is whether the
Olympics should have a permanent home or even multiple homes. Or should they stay the same
where any country can host the Olympics? Before answering the question think of where and why
the Olympics started. Ancient Greeceis the birthplace of Olympics about 800 BC and they were
later revived in the late 19th century. The first modern Olympics were in 1896 in Athen with 280
participants from 13 nations in 43 events. The purpose of the modern Olympic Gamesis to promote
peace and unity within the international community through the medium of sports (reference.com).
This quote is exactly right, permanent home deprives countries the chance to show national pride.
There are other bonuses to not having permanent homes. It can help a failing country s economy
become better and allows them to make history beyond sports. However permanent homes reduce
cost of new facilities and it will reduce facilities being abandoned after the games. But in the end
hosting the Olympics in different countries allows them to show pride, make history and boost
economies, even with the expensive cost.
Having permanent Olympic villages diminishes the opportunity for countries to showcase national
pride. Reading through one website it said that national pride is a powerful motivator for athletes.
For example, athlete Aminata Diouf, left her salon to compete for her country in track and field at

Dante’s Inferno in Milton´s Paradise Lost
Many arguments have been made that Dante s Inferno glimmers through here and there in Milton s
Paradise Lost. While at first glance the two poems seem quite drastically different in their portrayal
of Hell, but scholars have made arguments that influence from Dante shines through Milton s work
as well as arguments refuting these claims. All of these arguments have their own merit and while
there are instances where a Dantean influence can be seen throughout Paradise Lost, Milton s
progression of evil and Satan are quite different from Dante. Dante s influence on Milton is noted
by many scholars and is very apparent in several instances throughout Paradise Lost, however,
Milton shows a progression of evil through his own vision of Satan and... Show more content on

In his article, he discusses many of the authors previously mentioned such as Samuel, Hollander,
and Gurteen, and develops his own ideas about Milton s use of Dante s form of punishments. He
makes note of the fact that when Satan returns to Hell after successfully tempting Eve...he hears a
universal hiss as he and his crew transform into serpents which is clearly an allusion to that which
the thieves undergo in Cantos 24 and 25 of Dante s Inferno.
Other scholars agree that there is some flicker of Dante through Paradise Lost but argue that,
although there are instances where it seems clear of the influence, Milton and Dante s versions of
Hell and Satan are quite different.
In S. Humphreys Gurteen The Epic of The Fall of Man: A Comparative Study of Caedmon, Dante
and Milton he says, the influence of Dante s strong imagination, however, is evident throughout
Paradise Lost. It is not plagiarism, it is not imitation, it is the effect that must necessarily follow
from the contact of one powerful imagination, strong intellect, and deeply erudite mind, on that of
another, in many respects, his equal. (Gurteen, 383) While he explores

Nuremberg Code Of Ethics
Informed consent
The Nuremberg Code of Ethics, a set of ethical principles for human experimentation was developed
in 1947 following the trials conducted by medical professionals on prisoners in Nazi concentration
camps. This code had provided the public with confidence in the respectful and moral treatment of
subjects in the medical experiments.10The code defined the boundaries of medical experimentation
involving humans and established the requirement for informed consent. The Tuskegee study was
clearly violated many of these guidelines, yet an explicitly harmful study was allowed to continue
for decades because the officials of the Public Health Service deemed the study ethical and of
scientific value. The study was conducted by violating ethical principles and created distrust among
the African American community regarding participation in the clinical studies.

Fashion Week s Impact on American Society
Question
When I was young, I had a large appeal with fashion week. My friend and I would impersonate the
runway models in my living room, dressing up in my mother s clothes and laying stuffed animals
out like attendees. This fascination carried into high school, I found it as an opportunity to
demonstrate my style to a larger audience. Fashion week was intriguing to me because it provided a
way to express myself in a unique way and show a side of my own creativity. I anticipated this
project would give me a chance to learn more about the role fashion week plays in society.

I decided to break my research into separate categories based on the thick questions I had written.
On Wikipedia there were various recommended sources listed such as How the runway took off ,
which helped widen my research as well as gather more evidence. Next, I searched fashion week,
economy in Google s search bar, this search provided loads of information leaving me with
surplus evidence relating to fashion week s effect on the economy. Also, I researched fashion
week, social and social standards, fashion week , which is how I covered the majority of my
section on fashion/fashion week s effects on social distinctions and social classes. Lastly, I had
to find at least one source that was not web related, so I went to my local library and asked the
librarian for books relating to fashion week. Unfortunately, she did not know of any books and
suggested me to the encyclopedia, yet the encyclopedia did not offer anything on fashion week it
provided a wide range of information regarding fashion.
The three most useful sources during my research are as follows: New York Fashion Week ,
New York Fashion Week: The Numbers and Economic Benefits behind the World s Biggest

loads of information on the basis of fashion week and the history. It proved to be a credible source

Cause And Effect Of Tornados
To form a tornado the atmosphere needs to create an instability. The air closest to the ground will
be warm, humid, and have south facing winds. In the upper atmosphere, the air will be cold with
west or southwest facing winds. These two components in the upper and lower atmosphere together
create the atmospheric instability. Another key component to form a tornadois wind shear. Wind
shear is the change in wind speed and direction of wind while the warmer and cooler air are
chasing each other around in the circle, creating the height of the tornado. ( Prepare for a Tornado,
2017) Although tornados have been recorded in every continent except for Antarctica most are
found in central United States better known as tornado alley a stretch of land from the western
part of Texas to North Dakota. On average, there are two thousand tornadoes annually, but two out
of three of those tornadoes happen in the United States. The states with the most tornados on
average are Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Florida. Tornadoes form in the central part of the
United States most commonly because of the reoccurring atmospheric instability from the dry
polar air that meets the warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. (Prepare for a Tornado, 2017) A
storm capable of producing a tornado can occur at any time but most often they occur in the spring
and summer, June and May have the highest number of tornados recorded. Tornadoes can happen at

The Goal Assignment
The Goal Analysis
The main character in The Goal , Alex Rogo, manages a production plant that is unprofitable and
not efficient with its resources. Alex is given a short amount of time to turn the operations at the
plant around and make it an efficient, successful production plant. Throughout the book, Alex Rogo
speaks to Jonah a number of times and learns a great amount of information from him. The first
significant time that Alex and Jonah spoke was during their chance meeting at an airport lounge.
During this conversation, Alex learned a great deal about productivity and goal setting. Jonah
explains to Alex that a company has one goal and that the manager must be open about the goal.
Jonah then discusses the definition of productivity with Alex and tells him that the true definition is
bringing a company closer to its goal that it has set. Among these concepts that Alex learned, he also
learned more about his own management style and how it could be improved. Alex learned that he
must question common concepts regarding managing and that he must think differently in order to
be successful. The second time Alex spoke to Jonah was after finding his contact information in his
old address book. During this conversation, Alex realizes that accustomed profitability measures
cannot be applied to the plant he is managing and he must follow measures that better relate to his
individual plant. Jonah teaches Alex three

The Effect Of Calcium On The Contribution Of Calcium...
This research utilized calcium channel blockers to measure the contribution of calcium uptake in
relation to the vesicular glutamate released into the extracellular space. After the calcium channels
were blocked glutamate was applied directly to the extracellular space and the animals ability to
remove the glutamate was measured. The results showed that animals with traumatic braininjuries
had significantly higher levels of extracellular glutamate evidenced by a nearly 80% increase when
compared to the healthy mice (Hinzman et. Al., 2012). This showed that calcium mediated
neuronal glutamate release may contribute to the cytotoxicity experienced by patients affected by
traumatic brain injury. The second part of the study examined the importance of excitatory amino
acid transporters in patients suffering from traumatic brain injury. To accomplish this, researchers
applied an EAAT blocker to both injured and normal rats to measure their ability to remove
extracellular glutamate. The data suggested that mice subjected to a traumatic brain injury had a
more significant increase in extracellular glutamate after the EAAT blocker was applied.
Additionally, mice in the traumatic brain injury required a significantly longer time for the
extracellular glutamate to return to pre study levels (Hinzman et. Al., 2012). As such, it seems that
the major mechanism responsible for the cytotoxic levels of extracellular glutamate in traumatic
brain injury is directly related to a

Affordable And Adequate Health Insurance For Children

Affordable and adequate health insurance for children in the United States a vital public good.
Research indicates that children who have health insurance have better health outcomes in their
childhood, adolescence and adulthood. (cite). During the mid 1900 s there were more 11 million
uninsured children in the United States (Institute of Medicine, 1998). In what yr Senators Edward
Kennedy and Orrin Hatch worked together to introduce a bill to provide healthcare insurance for
children (Milliigan, 2009). Initially, their bill was not passed because it did not work in accordance
with the existing Balanced Budget Act. After much deliberation, in 1997, Congress enacted State
Children s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Funding for SCHIP is from both the federal government and the state government. To finance the
policy it was based on Federal Medical Assistance Program (FMAP) Explain this part better I don t
understand). FMAP was deisigned as an incentive for the states to expand the health insurance for
children based on Medicaid, Congress came up with an enhanced federal matching rate for SCHIP
at 15% points higher than the Medicaid rate. For example, if a state has a 50% match rate for
Medicaid, it would receive a 65% match rate for Medicaid for SCHIP. (cite) The policy has cost
the federal government almost $40 million over a ten year span. The federal government grants
and allocates the funds for SCHIP based on the number of uninsured children in families whose
income is below the federal poverty level (FPL). The individual states are responsible for
implementing the program based on analysis of ineligibility, enrollment and disenrollment.
Strengths
SCHIP has made notable achievements. An important strength is the flexibility afforded to the
states in executing the policy which led to positive reception and acceptance of the program. The
significance of states latitude over program design, gives states the ability to design the program
based on the inordinate needs of children in that state. Additionally, not every state has the same
needs and political realities to overcome.

Music Plays A Influence On My Life
Music plays a tremendous role in my life and always has. From the age of five, my parents
introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who
I am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from
artist such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel
songs and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing
was a passion of mine and musicbecame food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my
life where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and
twelve.
Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the
trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I ve always
dreamed of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During
the seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and
Christmas music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my
time in Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist
Church.
Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen
to Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. God comes first and he
truly is the head of my life. As a Christian, by me listening to

  • 2. Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again Wake Up America As we age, our lives are divided into stages with inescapable hardships. The most difficult of these stages has proven to be adolescence and young adulthood, the years in which our personalities are defined. This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties are holding tight to the freedom of childhood by depending on their parents, refusing to settle down, and avoiding responsibility. Through their lack of independence, inability to commit and their indolence, certain action must be taken against adolescents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch, (par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L. Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are ... Education as a Social Institution Education as a Social Institution The social institution referred to as Education is comprised of the school system and it is in the school system where knowledge and skills are developed along with cultural and social values and norms. Additionally, through the school system culture and society continue and further those social values and norms thus fulfilling a need prescribed by society. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the theories of functionalism, conflict, and interactionism perceive the social institution of education. A student will not excel academically if they do not enjoy attending school in general, or attending specific classes therefore, what are some causes for a student feeling this way. It is evident that the interactions between the students and instructors play a large role in how the students feel about classes and school in general. Two major factors come into play here and they are, the instructors social and emotional support for students and the nature of [the instructors ] expectations for students academic performance (Hallinan, 2008). This interaction between student and instructor is of great value as it influences how a student perceives themself and their environment within the school system. For example, students that perceive they are being overlooked or their capabilities are being undervalued by the instructor will perform poorly. Conversely, when an instructor shows the student some attention, and shows them they are capable and of value as a student, the student will perform to the best of their ability. However, for either of these scenarios to persist the instructor must be consistent with their interactions with the student. Moreover, if the instructor s expectations and interactions are not consistent with regard to the student then the ability in predicting the student s success in school or their feelings toward school becomes problematic. • 5. Film Adaptation Of Bram Stoker s Dracula Bram Stoker s frightening tale of Count Dracula has struck horror into the hearts of many since it was originally penned. In 1987, Bram Stoker wrote the revolutionary tale Dracula that played off the fears of the people of the era. The plot and characters that make the novel great also translate nearly perfectly to cinematic adaptations. Starting in the early 1900 s, directors have done their best to portray the terror that the original novel inspired. Francis Ford Coppolas Bram Stoker s Draculawas released in 1992 and follows the book s storyline very closely. However, to appeal to his generations ideals on relationships and sex, Coppola made some changes to the plot; however, many of the characters and themes are kept intact. He also... This is much different form the novel version of the Count, who Harker describes as a monster will wants to satiate his lust for blood, and create a new and ever widening circle of semi demons to batten on the helpless (Stoker 53) Another difference that is different in Dracula s film version is how he is killed. In the book, Harker slits his throat after a climatic chase and battle, and immediately turns to dust (Stoker 325). This battle still occurs in Coppola s version; however, he is eventually killed by Mina and the act is seen as one of compassion and kindness. Stoker does not explore this idea in his novel. Stoker does not explore this idea in the novel, as doing so would have taken away from the frightening, undead character that he was trying to create. This is not to say that Coppola was wrong to go this route, however, only that the perception of vampires had shifted and he needed something to fit along with this shift. On top of this, Coppola also decided to make his movie much more erotic portrayal of many characters in the film. This starts with the brides, who have a much more sexual way of approaching Jonathan than in the book. The sexual tone continues into how Lucy is depicted in the film. Lucy originally had more of a sexual undertone than the other characters in the book. For example, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Requirements And Issue Management Systems 1.Requirements and Issue Management Systems Requirements and issue management systems allow managers or leaders to classify and affiliate characteristics with them, and to establish and evaluate dependencies and other common ties. Requirements set the stage for a project and issue management is an important process of identifying and resolving issues (Cook, 2015). Shaw Industries used an agile methodology called Scrum to improve relationships between IT and business partners to ensure project success (O Brien Marakas, 2011). A healthy organization is one that involves people who are loyal to one another, never judges, expresses genuine appreciation across their organizational structure, assists others with critical tasks and never places blame on someone (Williams, 2013). When businesses make and keep promises, they see strong trust and respect across the organization. If they often make commitments but fail to keep them, people will see frustration and self starving behavior (Williams, 2013). Shaw Industries focused on consistency to build a trusting relationship with their client. They delivered priorities by an explicit deadline and in turn, trust was earned. A customer s ability to trust is dependent upon showing the customer that your behavior is consistent and persistent over time. When a customer can predict your behavior, that customer is more likely to trust you (James, 2012). While the agile system was the popular choice for Shaw Industries, this certainly does not mean it is the best choice for every organization. There are hundreds of Requirements and Issue Management software available. SpiraTest, RequirementsHub, DevSpec, Gatherspace and Bugzilla are just a few that are popular today (Top Requirements Management Software Products, 2015). The Know Nothings gained support from blue collar American workers, who were fearful of losing their job to Irishmen, which was a justified belief at the time. Lewis Levin, the first known leader of the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without question, which would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know Nothing spread their message of fear, through the spreading of rumors and lies about Irish workers, as noted by Bruce Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and the origins of the know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving drunkards, poor material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists added, aggravated the problem by promoting ignorance and low superstition and offering comforting, exculpatory rituals (notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that the common man would share their view of the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have brought into the country. The main idea of the article is how these tiny Pallas s cats are actually vicious wild animals. The Pallas s cats are named after Peter Pallas, a German naturalist. They live in China and parts of Mongolia. These cats have a bulky body and a thick layer of fur. The fur coat is especially heavy in the belly and tail area, this helps the body to keep warm during cold seasons. Their appearance gives off a cute vibe, but they re actually violent wild cats. Pallas s cats favorite foods are pikas and small rodents. Its round ears are the same level as its head, making it unnoticeable when it peers over rocks. In conducing the test on myself, I discovered that it deemed me more extraverted (ENFJ) than I assumed, at least in a self reflective, historical sense. In reference to the article, venting to peers is the most recognized method of managing high levels of emotions, this is done venting to colleagues, who can relate because they too share the same environment. Another equally effective method often used is reconstructing difficult situations into a positive light. For instance, a patient who has passed away can be recognized as a relief of suffering (Hammonds Cadge, 2014, p. 166). Another aspect of stress management we have to consider is how we deal with emotional issues off the job. Nurses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To further increase and attract foreign investment, the Chinese government increased its numbers of experimental, special economic zoned cities in which foreigners could operate a business. There were, however, restrictions set forward by the government. One restriction in 1996 was that all foreign businesses would have to be in a joint venture or other type of cooperative agreement with at least one Chinese partner, with that Chinese partner getting a stake greater than 51%. In August 1995, Wal Mart, the great American retail chain and Middle America success story, arrived in China, establishing a joint venture with Shenzhen International Fiduciary Investment Co, Ltd, China. In the following year, 1996, Wal Mart opened its first supercentre and a Sam s Club, its members only big box store, in the special economic zone of Shenzhen, in the southernmost Guangdong Province. • 13. Essay on Sandra Ciseneros Sandra Ciseneros It was a cold and windy day, a perfect day to uncover secrets and truths about writers I had heard of, but new little about. I entered the library to escape the weather and lose myself in books about Sandra Ciseneros and the characters she creates in her poems and stories. I began my search at a computer resource station, and then absorbed myself in the materials it provided, which were biographies, criticisms, and the works of Cisneros. Initially, the computer resource station provided me only with Cisnero s texts or simple the books she had written. They were all listed in the card catalogue, and I was reassured that if the library had her books, than they had to have biographies and criticisms on her as well.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I decided I would start with her work and then see what the critics had to say. Her book s The House on Mango Street and Loose Woman: Poems enthralled me the most, and gave me a sense of her genre and style. They portrayed her concentration on culture or ethninticity and gender issues. A Stanza from her poem Loose Woman really tickled my fancy and is an excellent representation of these two themes: They say I m macha, hell on wheels, viva la vulva, fire and brimstone, man hating, devastating, boogey woman lesbian. Not necessarily, but I like the compliment. ( 112) In this poem Cisneros displays a common stereotype of women in a satirical way that is easy to identify with, and in a sense empowers women rather than degrading them. In doing this, she keeps her cultural heritage by using both English, and her own native language, Spanish to define her views. She maintains this sort of style throughout her poems and pursues gender issues and cultural identity with ferocious vitality and purpose. Although she does not use written Spanish in The house on Mango Street, her characters are Mexican and represent the culture in their lifestyles, views, and upbringing. The story depicts the coming of age of a girl named Esperanza, who is searching for stability and a place for herself in the world. The non ruminant digestive system works so that our stomach churns the food so it is into tiny little pieces, and makes sure that the food we eat is fully digested and the stomach muscles contract in order to churn food. The small intestine then absorbs and digests 90% of the food we eat and then absorbs minerals and nutrients, the large intestine then absorbs water from the remaining indigested food and transports waste material from our bodies, the rectum then temporarily stores our faeces until it is full and then faeces excrete from our anuses. • 18. Joy Is Not Just Happiness In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion. There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy. Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is when normal or perverse come into play, when something can t exactly be named unnatural. The concept may be questioned because the answer for what is measured normal is unclear. (Trevas, pg. 229) Something being perverse doesn t have to mean it is bad; it is immoral or moral in different situations. The actual meaning of perversion is an alteration or corruption of an original cause, meaning or state. A perversion takes something from being originally good, to then being bad. Good or bad, a perversion has no connection to morality. A type of perversion is a sexual perversion. Different religions, a persons attitude towards things; may probably have different ideas on perversion. Any action that brings sexual pleasure, but has little or no chance in resulting in conception is considered perverse. The Maunder Minimum was a period of time where the sunspots were at their lowest in number, appearing as only around 50 as opposed to their current average of 40,000 to 50,000 over a course of 30 years. This decrease in sunspots happened approximately the same time as the Little Ice Age, however, the ice age started nearly a century before the Maunder Minimum occurred and lasted long after it ended. Solar Change and the Effects on Earth That s not to say that links between solar activity and Earth s climate don t exist, however; they clearly do. However, there is a great amount of evidence that she was very influential in the making of the flag. These words by her say it all, Our hearts aching, our prayers praying, our flags waving, never forget. 1 Elizabeth Griscom, also known as Betsy Ross was born on January 1, 1752 in Philadelphia to her loving parents Rebecca and Samuel Griscom. She was the eighth child out of seventeen.2 The same year she was born was the year the Liberty Bell arrived in Philadelphia. Her father had the honor to assist in building the tower that surrounded the bell where it was placed. Her parents were part of the Quaker religion, also known as the Society of Friends, which left Betsy living differently than the colonist. With the determined Quaker religion, she was not allowed to attend plays or read storybooks because it promoted a world of fantasy rather than the story of the Bible. The Quakers also forbid music within their culture because it provided no movement to the people and developed corrupt thoughts within an individual.3 During this time period many families were fairly large, but a majority of the children often died from diseases at a very young age. In Betsy s family only nine of the children survived to be adults. Every Sunday and Thursday the Quakers would attend a church service that lasted two hours long. • 35. Much Ado About Nothing Structuralism Essay Like Father, Like Daughter: Structuralism Amongst the Women in Shakespeare During the Renaissance, it was common for women to behave in a certain manner in a patriarchal society. Women were subordinate to any man in their life, whether it was a husband or a father. However, Shakespeare creates female roles in his plays that often steer away from the common script. These women challenge, deceive, and steal from these men, including one s closest to them in their lives. In Merchant of Venice, young Portiaand Jessica are two examples of these strayed female characters. They feel trapped in the hands of their father s and do their best to break free of that hold. This shows the extreme version of a rebellious teenager in order to escape her father. Once Shylock finds out his daughter has disappeared with his money and jewels, he is outwardly upset with the fact that his possessions are gone. He even states that he wished his daughter were dead at [his] foot, and the jewels in her ear! Would she were hearsed at [his] foot, and the ducats in her coffin! (Act III, Scene i, 76 79). Surely, one can t believe there are any similarities in this relationship, however, structuralism shows the underlying pattern between Shylock and Jessica. Diane Dreher author of Domination and Defiance: Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, points out that the two hold a common trait: Greed. Shylock s greed is expressed through his constant talk on commerce and his precious ducats, and Jessica has inherited that ideology. Before running away with Lorenzo, she drops down a basket filled with money and jewels belonging to her father. One would assume it was an act of reprisal, however, Dreher argues it is greed much like her father s. She describes her as bad and disloyal, unfilial, a thief; frivolous, greedy, without any more conscience than a cat, (pg. 102). These two characters know that money holds a powerful position in their lives. Along with this greed, both are very determined characters in terms of fighting for what they want. With Shylock, he is constantly trying to receive justice through the deal he made with Antonio. Despite the strange request, he demands that he receives his pound of flesh from Antonio and stops at nothing to see it through. This passion can be seen in Jessica as well when she is determined to marry Lorenzo despite her father s wishes. She gets to the point of disguising herself as a man in order to be with him. • 40. Drinking Water Affecting Birds Osmotic Balance Providing electrolytes in the drinking water alters the birds osmotic balance in a way that enhances thirst (Teeter and Belay, 1996). Drinking saline water increases sodium concentrations in plasma which is capable, at certain levels, of changing the osmolality of body fluids. The osmolality of the extracellular fluid is controlled primarily by the concentration of sodium and its attendant anions (Verbalis, 2003). The increased tonicity of the extracellular fluid increases the osmotic pressure on the body cells that may result in drawing water from the cells into the extracellular fluid. To prevent this, certain neurons (osmo Na+ receptors) detects the concentration of sodium in extracellular fluid and triggers osmotic thirst to help restore the body fluids to a normal state (Stachenfeld, 2008). In humans, a minimal change (2 3%) in plasma tonicity is capable of inducing thirst (Stachenfeld, 2008).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This research utilized calcium channel blockers to measure the contribution of calcium uptake in relation to the vesicular glutamate released into the extracellular space. After the calcium channels were blocked glutamate was applied directly to the extracellular space and the animals ability to remove the glutamate was measured. The results showed that animals with traumatic braininjuries had significantly higher levels of extracellular glutamate evidenced by a nearly 80% increase when compared to the healthy mice (Hinzman et. Al., 2012). This showed that calcium mediated neuronal glutamate release may contribute to the cytotoxicity experienced by patients affected by traumatic brain injury. The second part of the study examined the importance of excitatory amino acid transporters in patients suffering from traumatic brain injury. To accomplish this, researchers applied an EAAT blocker to both injured and normal rats to measure their ability to remove extracellular glutamate. The data suggested that mice subjected to a traumatic brain injury had a more significant increase in extracellular glutamate after the EAAT blocker was applied. Additionally, mice in the traumatic brain injury required a significantly longer time for the extracellular glutamate to return to pre study levels (Hinzman et. Al., 2012). As such, it seems that the major mechanism responsible for the cytotoxic levels of extracellular glutamate in traumatic brain injury is directly related to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research indicates that children who have health insurance have better health outcomes in their childhood, adolescence and adulthood. (cite). During the mid 1900 s there were more 11 million uninsured children in the United States (Institute of Medicine, 1998). In what yr Senators Edward Kennedy and Orrin Hatch worked together to introduce a bill to provide healthcare insurance for children (Milliigan, 2009). Initially, their bill was not passed because it did not work in accordance with the existing Balanced Budget Act. After much deliberation, in 1997, Congress enacted State Children s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Funding for SCHIP is from both the federal government and the state government. To finance the policy it was based on Federal Medical Assistance Program (FMAP) Explain this part better I don t understand). FMAP was deisigned as an incentive for the states to expand the health insurance for children based on Medicaid, Congress came up with an enhanced federal matching rate for SCHIP at 15% points higher than the Medicaid rate. For example, if a state has a 50% match rate for Medicaid, it would receive a 65% match rate for Medicaid for SCHIP. (cite) The policy has cost the federal government almost $40 million over a ten year span. The federal government grants and allocates the funds for SCHIP based on the number of uninsured children in families whose income is below the federal poverty level (FPL). The individual states are responsible for implementing the program based on analysis of ineligibility, enrollment and disenrollment. Strengths SCHIP has made notable achievements. An important strength is the flexibility afforded to the states in executing the policy which led to positive reception and acceptance of the program. The significance of states latitude over program design, gives states the ability to design the program based on the inordinate needs of children in that state. Additionally, not every state has the same needs and political realities to overcome. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Music Plays A Influence On My Life Music plays a tremendous role in my life and always has. From the age of five, my parents introduced to me to one particular type of music, which was gospel and it has been a part of who I am ever since. I can remember waking up early on Sunday morning hearing gospel music from artist such as Kim Burrell, Shirley Caesar, and Mary Mary. I began learning these particular gospel songs and then I gained the courage to sing these songs in church. At that moment, I knew singing was a passion of mine and musicbecame food to my soul. I would have to say the moment in my life where I strongly became influenced by music was as a child between the ages of five and twelve. Then when I entered middle school, I joined the school band. I played two instruments, the trombone and trumpet. Although I truly enjoyed playing those two instruments, I ve always dreamed of playing the piano or violin but I never gained the opportunity to receive lessons. During the seventh grade, I joined the Needwood Middle School Choir. We sung gospel music and Christmas music during the holiday season. With gaining so much musical experience during my time in Middle School, my church appointed me to Youth Choir Director for Salem St. John Baptist Church. Overall, I prefer Gospel music for so many different reasons. One of the reasons I prefer to listen to Gospel music is because of the messages behind this type of music. God comes first and he truly is the head of my life. As a Christian, by me listening to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
