deforestation around the world are palm oil and cocoa. However, in the process of
growing these products trees are removed from the area in order to be converted into
palm and cocoa plantations. As a result, many animal habitats are ruined, and an
abundance of trees are cut releasing carbon dioxide into the air contributing to climate
change. Increased demand for products containing ingredients such as palm oil and
cocoa are just two of the reasons the rate of deforestation is escalating resulting in the
exploitation of animal habitats and worsening the effects of climate change. Many
small countries main income is through exporting agricultural products. Therefore, as
demand increases countries will do whatever they need to do to meet the demand.
Often, corners are cut, and there are many negative consequences. Palm oil is an
ingredient that is found in many consumer products that are on the market.
Companies should be held responsible for where the ingredients of their products
come from and should be held accountable to source products such as palm oil in a

In the poem Poem the syntax is very interesting because of how each line is
organized. The way the lines are organized gives an image of what the poem is
trying to show us. The way the poem is laid out may leave some think it is
awkward, but the way it is organized actually makes it more rhythmatic than it
would just read out in 1 or 2 lines. When reading the poem I picture the cat climbing
/walking with pauses every time the line ends. For example in lines 5 7, first the
right (Williams 5) pause as the cat steps, forefoot/carefully (Williams 6 7) you can
picture the cat going slowly and carefully. In Order in the Streets, Donald Justice uses
similar syntaxstructure to William Carlos William s Poem . The syntax is similar
because both poems use how the lines are organized as a way to make the poem
more interesting. In Order in the Streets , the syntax help shape a picture of what
the author is trying to portray. For example in lines 3 5, Jeep rushes (Justice 3) you
can picture a jeep driving fast, to the scene (Justice 4) you slowly get a sense of
the setting, of riot (Justice 5). By the end of these lines you can picture a jeep

clearly see her opinion of religion and God. It seems like Dickinson likes the idea

of communication has been vital to any growth or development made by humans
over the years. From humanity s beginnings as cavemen, with no formal
communication system, to modern days, when people can seemingly communicate

of processes involving certain key elements and the relationship between them,
allowing people to form and interpret messages, states Christopher L. Johnstone s text

This is what led to Grendel s outburst of sudden rage and violence, but because the
story is based on Anglo Saxons description of monster, many people believed that
Grendel s violent acts were due to him being a cursed demon with an alien spirit (
Heaney 55). In contrast to modern day, people try to understanding why monsters

Dahmer, was one of America s most notorious serial killers between the late 1970 s

A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women
have been subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic
hardships such as wage gaps or an inability to own property, to social mores such as
submission in marriage and sexual objectification, women are systematically treated
as second class citizens without a voice. African Americanwomen have faced these
gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the forms of slavery, unfair
taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media representation
to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsenportrays two African American women as
main characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways.
Webster s Dictionary defines oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust
treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control; mental pressure
or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues of oppression such
as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to
women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how raceand
class function in society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender.
Many of the issues explored in the story were likely experiences by the author
herself. Similar to the main character Irene, Nella Larsen was an African American
of mixed descent from Chicago, who lived in New York, and was married to a

American Family Traditions
Holidays Another way that older generations pass down elements of the Korean
culture is through holiday traditions. For the most part, the interviewees listed the
typical American holidays that their families celebrate, including Christmas and
Thanksgiving. It was evident that some American holidays were less emphasized,
such as Independence Day and Halloween. Julie expressed that the lack of
observance of some American customs exemplifies her parent s transmission of

So, one of the parents announce that it is time and my cousins and I will all bow to
the older aunts, uncles and grandparents of course. We re supposed to memorize
something in Korean to say to them. After we do that, they say something back to
us and give us cash or give the younger kids candy or a small gift. I d say it s the

that some of the tempoaray foreign workers come from high context cultures and
