Lord Of The Flies Character Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Lord of the Flies Character" can be quite challenging due to the
intricacies involved in analyzing the characters from William Golding's novel. The characters in
"Lord of the Flies" are complex and multifaceted, each representing different aspects of human
nature and societal dynamics. Crafting an essay requires a deep understanding of the characters,
their motivations, and the symbolism embedded in the narrative.
To begin with, one must delve into the psychological aspects of characters such as Ralph, Jack,
Piggy, and Simon. Analyzing their individual development throughout the story, exploring the
impact of their interactions, and deciphering the symbolism attached to each character is a
demanding task. The essay should not only focus on the characters' actions but also on their
evolving relationships and the symbolism Golding employs to convey deeper meanings.
Furthermore, addressing the broader themes of the novel, such as the descent into savagery, the
loss of civilization, and the inherent darkness within human nature, adds another layer of
complexity. The challenge lies in articulating a cohesive argument that captures the essence of the
characters while also exploring the broader themes and messages embedded in the narrative.
Moreover, constructing a well-organized essay requires meticulous planning and a clear
understanding of the overarching thesis. The writer must skillfully weave together textual
evidence, literary analysis, and critical interpretation to support their arguments. Striking the
right balance between summary and analysis is crucial, ensuring that the essay not only describes
the characters but also interprets their significance within the context of the novel.
In conclusion, crafting a compelling essay on the characters in "Lord of the Flies" demands a
profound understanding of the novel's themes, characters, and symbolism. It requires analytical
skills, critical thinking, and the ability to articulate complex ideas coherently. While challenging,
successfully navigating this task can lead to a deeper appreciation of the literary work and its
profound insights into human nature.

Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by Oates
For centuries, society has placed a remarkably large emphasis on protecting the
young from the many perceived errors of growing up. Effective sex education is
resisted in many locations across the country in favor of somewhat comical biblical
suggestions for abstinence until marriage even while the majority of those targeted
teens are viewing the world as a more and more sexual place. So many views are
weaving in and out of teenagers newly formed adolescent minds that any effective
argument for responsible attitudes or analysis of sexual behavior in teens should be
expressed with a certain minimal degree of clarity. Unfortunately, this essential
lucidity of advice is missing in the short storyWhere are You Going, Where Have You
Been, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If that isn t enough, the story ends on another swing, suggesting that Connie was
taken up... by the sunlit reaches of the land behind him and on all sides of him...
(Oates, n.p.), switching back to more positive diction. Oates portrayal of Friend
vacillates enough that readers can t develop a definitive opinion of Arthur Friend
other than a collective agreement that Arthur Friend is a creep. Another serious
yet in a sense comical problem with the story is it s sheer density. Not content with
merely writing an essay on teenage sexuality or a short narrative about a girl
named Connie who s just being introduced to the reality of relationships, Oates
feels the need to write a symbol filled story with demons and secret codes like 33
19 17 included in order to... what, though? To confuse the reader and have them
empathize with Connie? I don t know about empathizing, but confusion, if it was an
intention, tends to be very successful. To further my understanding of this story, I
thought to look up some possible meanings of those three numbers on Friend s
golden car, not necessarily in an academic sense, but just out of curiosity as to how
other readers interpreted those numbers. The results ranged from a bible verse with a
translation of the title in the passage (you need to count backwards) to the ages of

Frequency to Voltage Converter General Description The LM2907, LM2917 series
are monolithic frequency to voltage converters with a high gain op amp
/comparator designed to operate a relay, lamp, or other load when the input
frequency reaches or exceeds a selected rate. The tachometer uses a charge pump
technique and offers frequency doubling for low ripple, full input protection in two
versions (LM2907 8, LM2917 8) and its output swings to ground for a zero
frequency input. The op amp/comparator is fully compatible with the tachometer and
has a floating transistor as its output. This feature allows either a ground or supply

Nursing Core Competencies
As the healthcare industry changes, challenges arise for the healthcare administrators
of acute care organizations. One of these challenges includes the need to ensure that
every member of the nursing staff is competent within this continuously changing
environment. Competence is not an achievement; it is a habit of lifelong learning.
The Joint Commission defines competencies as the knowledge, skills, aptitude and
behaviors that an individual possesses in order to perform tasks correctly and
skillfully. Core Competencies The American Association of Colleges of Nursing
(AACN) provides insight into the nursing core competencies in respect to education
and the role of a clinical nurse leader. These competencies include: communication;

Assessments provide insight into a nurse s ability to perform, discover and create new
knowledge, adapt to changes and improve performance levels. Assessments intend to
protect patients through identifying incompetent nurses, optimizing the capability of
each nurse by providing incentives and a path for future learning. In addition,
assessments can assist a healthcare administrator with choosing an applicant for
advanced training. Types of Assessments Assessments can be summative or
formative. Formative refers to offering reassurance, providing a path for future
learning, shaping values and encouraging reflection. Summative assessments are used
to make judgments as to a nurse s competency, fitness to practice and qualifications
for advancement. Competency Assessment Techniques In the U.S., aspects of a
model developed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME) are used to assess medical residents and medical students. The nursing
industry can also use this model as a means to improve assessment techniques. There
are six interconnected competence domains: interpersonal skills and communication;
medical knowledge; professionalism; patient care; systems based practice; practice
based learning and
The Importance Of Corporal Workforcement
Motivational tools have been used since schools have been around. They have
changed drastically through the years and studies have helped schools adapt to their
age group. We talked to Pleasant Hill Middle School teachers to get their opinion on
the motivational tools currently being used at their school, and to determine which
they feel is the most effective. Disciplinary tools have changed a lot since one
hundred, or even fifty years ago. Corporal punishment was much more prominent and
is still legal in nineteen states. Although corporal punishment may be more effective
in getting students to stop bad behavior as compared to something like a detention, it
has a host of negative impacts on students. According to hrw.org (human rights
watch) corporal punishment can have harsh physical impacts, like deep bruising and
bleeding, but mental impacts as well. Hrw.org also says that in relation to corporal
punishment, it has been shown that students, have reported subsequent problems
with depression, fear and anger , as well as diminishing student teacher trust and a
safe learning environment. We know the information from the past, but what does
modern science have to say? Studies have shown that among adolescents, positive
reinforcement is cognitively registered more efficiently and kept in the mind longer
than punishment. According to medicaldaily.com, adolescents are likely to be more
receptive to positive reinforcement of good behavior than to being punished for
Evaluation Of An Oral Informed Consent
Methods
Participants
There were 135 participants in this study; 57 were male (43%) and 77 were female
(57%), and one participant did not report gender. Participants age ranged from 16 to
60 (M = 24.08, SD = 7.84). This sample consisted of 77% Hispanic (N = 104), 11%
Caucasian (N = 15), 5% African American (N = 7), 4% Asian (N = 6), and 2% who
reported another ethnicity (N = 3).
Materials and Procedure Participants willing to take part in this study were asked
for an oral informed consent. An oral yes or no response was accepted. After
consenting to participate, participants were asked to randomly select one of three
writing task documents where they were first asked to describe an event in their life.
Once the writing task was completed, participants were asked to complete a written
survey titled the Feeling Questionnaire where the participant was asked to reveal how
they were currently feeling about themselves. The questionnaire was broken down
into three parts. Part one and part two supplied responses on a rating scale and part
three supplied demographic information.
The questionnaire was set up in a way that questions 1, 2 and 3 in part one were
designed to assess a participant s self esteem and was measured on a rating scale of
1 to 9 with 1 being strongly disagree and 9 being strongly agree. The writing task
was our primary independent variable for this study, which placed one third of the
participants in the Dissonance condition (D), one third
How Did The Cold War Affect Latin America
The cold war has caused many effects to many different countries. Such as Europe,
Asia, and Latin America. There has been some good changes and there have been
some bad changes. Some changes to Europe include the Hungary attack. The Soviet
troops were ordered to attack Hungary. As a result to this, a new Hungarian
Revolutionary government was formed to protect the hungarian people, and provide
them aid in the form of soldiers and firearms. There was also a wall built to separate
west and east Berlin. There were also some changes in Latin America. The U.S. did
not trust Cuba, being a Communist government country. There was a series of missile
sites, which were only in place to provide nuclear strike capability against the western
hemisphere. After that the sandinistas had the best organized and most experienced
military bases.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Drinking Age In The Military
The current drinking age should not be lowered to 18 despite the responsibilities
that are given at that age. While at age 18 teenagers receive a handful of new
choices and responsibilities. Of those some may argue that if at 18 teenagers can
join the military and are ultimately risking their life that they also should be able
have the choice of consuming alcohol. Along with everything else granted to an 18
year old as they enter adulthood it is not enough to lower the legal drinking age. Let
us start with the strongest comment of this argument, joining the military. The
Bureau of Labor Statistics, describe the types of occupations and the number of
enlisted personals in each occupation in a table. The table includes the total amount
of personals enlisted in combat specialty for all branches of military at 151,501(Table

The table provided a total number of how many military personals are combat
specialty and the total of enlisted personals of all the branches combined. The
percent of personals in combat of the total amount is approximately 7.2%. Based
on these calculations, the percent of personnel enlisted in combat is a tiny
percentage of total of all personnel enlisted. Clearly, stating that being able to join
the military at 18 is a valid reason to lower the drinking age is because it involves
them risking their life but, it an exaggerated to make it sound like it does. When an
18 year old joins the military, it does not necessarily mean that their life is
immediately put at risk, so it does not justify the reason of lowering the legal
drinking age, and not every single 18 year old is joining the military
Tengriism Research Paper
Tengriism is a religion practiced and based in Central Asia. The actual founding date
of Tengriism has not been confirmed, but it is believed to have begun sometime
around the Bronze Age, which lasted from 3,300 B.C. through to 1,200 B.C. It is one
of the oldest religions, and includes characteristics of shamanism, animism, totemism,
both polytheism and monotheism, and ancestor worship. It is one of the few
religions to represent a pure philosophical vision rather than religious views, having
never caused any wars or sought to convert and propagandize the world. Tengri was
the main divinity worshipped by the ruling class of the Central Asian people from the
6th to 9th centuries, however, it lost this importance in the 8th century. The worship...

Beowulf A New Telling Analysis
Beowulf a New Telling by Robert Nye was a very unusual yet interesting story
because of how the author use sensory details and figurative language, this story
also showed many themes since each character acted a different way and added a
new theme. During the story Beowulf shows both good and evil in his character in
many different ways. He tries to save the land of the Danes by killing an evil soul
named Grendel who haunts Hall Heorot and Grendel s mother by swimming down
into a pool of blood to defeat her. While doing these things Beowulfhas t5o deal with
Unferth, an old drunken fellow who disagreed with the killing of Grendel. Once
Beowulf had done what he had came to do he decided that it was time to go back
to the land of the Geats which was his hometown. There he became the King and
defeated the Firedrake, a lizard like creature that haunted the burying places of men.
Beowulf was aging and soon after that he passed and was buried at a great green fist
of land that stuck out into the sea and was remembered for his great events that were
haunting the people of the Danes and Geats. Throughout this book there are many
different themes that come about. One that I saw many different times throughout the
story was generosity. Beowulf showed it very much during the story. Some examples
of him showing it is when he volunteered to go fight off Grendel without hesitation.
Also when he said that he would go swim down to the bottom of the blood pool to
defeat and put
The Influence Of Beauty In The Media
Nowadays people are all constantly connected and surrounded by media and
advertisements, it is almost impossible to avoid the ideas that media exposes, but
is it all fun and games? Media and advertising are very powerful sources of both
communication and information; moreover, teenagers are constantly using it and
being targeted by it more than any other age group. Media influences many
behaviors and ideas that teenagers have, greatly affecting them because they resort
to media to learn about beauty standards and more. Often times resulting in twisted
perceptions of beauty. Over time the ideal of beauty changes because it depends
on what is popular/in style during that time period. In addition, some culture s
beauty ideals are different from other cultures. However in every culture there is
an ideal of beauty that is expected to be followed by their people. By definition
beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the
aesthetic senses, especially the sight. People have their own vision of beauty so
anything can be seen as beauty, it just depends in the eye of the beholder. However,
instead of allowing people to have their own ideal of beauty one was created for
them. In American culture, beauty is centered upon body image. Advertisements and
social media create and set an ideal of beauty for teenagers that is impossible to
accomplish. This unachievable beauty standard can harshly affect the teens in
negative ways, but it is highly
Essay about Our Trip to Wyoming was Beautiful
Wyoming is a beautiful place We never drove farther west than Iowa. Going to
Wyoming was something my brothers and I were looking forward too. Talking
about all the activities we will be doing and places we will be stopping at made us
more excited. It got me wishing we were going that day, but I knew we had to wait
a couple a weeks. Waiting was the worst part of the trip. I could not focus on
anything besides getting ready for the trip. As those long weeks came by we
finally were packed to go. It was 4 a.m. and my parents were packing the car and
telling us to bring everything out. We decided to take the minivan, so there was
plenty of space. My older brother always got the back seats to himself so he had his
bags back there with him. My... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then we wanted to make no stops from here to Yellowstone. Driving along by the
mountain near Yellowstone they told us to go around but we did not want to
waste 2 hours so we went up the mountain nice and slow. Since the mountain was
so steep it burned our tires. When we reached Yellowstone we made my dad pull
over and we stopped at Yellowstone Lake. I remember my dad telling us that the
ice just melted from the mountain so it was cold. We did not care we went in
anyway, he was right. It was freezing cold so as we came out and our dad was
smiling, he bet us we could not reach to the middle of the lake. We decided to try
and make a raft to get us to the middle and to paddle with are hands there and back.
As we tried to make a raft out of the huge logs we found near by we could not find
anything to tie them together so we just decided to hold on to all of them. As you
can only imagine, it failed and we went into the water. We gave up after a half hour
and got back in to the car. It was so beautiful going up the side of the mountain. I
remember going up and seeing a mama wolf, she had two little cubs playing by the
logs. We stayed in Yellowstone that night. We got up early the next morning and
saw old faithful waiting for it to irrupt. Saw other geysers and some colorful ones.
We went back to the cabin and as we were eating diner we saw a pack of wolves run
by. That night all we heard the wolves so close but then it disappeared in the middle
of the night. As
The Tragedy Of Saint Louis
It seemed just like yesterday, back in the glory days. Back then, nearly two decades
ago, life in the Saint Louis area was perfect. Unlike today where Saint Louis is
known for its crime and violence, years ago conditions were different, the talk of
the town used to be about the Cardinals baseball team, they were once the pride and
joy of the city. Constantly in the news after win after win. For example, on this
particular day on September 8th, 1998, a night that no Cardinal fan would dare to
forget, marks a historic day that is best remembered for being a celebration. What

Like so many times before, after the games it was tradition that no matter the
outcome they would go hang out and grab a few drinks. Either if it was to
celebrate a great win or to recover from a devastating lost, they made it a point to
be there for each other. Their normal spot to hit up was the Instant Replay, a sports
bar in her hometown of Quincy Illinois. As the group of them walked into the small
stone exterior building they were greeted by several other people who had the same
idea that night. Almost everybody was handled around the television set. Of course,
the Cardinals game was on, they were playing longtime rival, the Chicago Cubs. You
could tell everybody was anticipating that this was finally going to be the night that
Mark McGwire hit his record breaking home run, I don t know if it was a gut feeling
or just human nature, but everybody had the same mindset (Roettger).

White With Powder
Ashella had dutifully helped Brietta and Edana get into their dresses for that
evening s festivities. Many times throughout the process she had to force herself
not to giggle as her stepsisters asked for increasingly ridiculous elements to be
added to their look. She had plucked their hairlines to give them a more prominent
forehead. This of course, had led to much whining and scolding from the two as they
believed she was hurting them on purpose. They had acted like babies, but Ashella
certainly didn t say that out load to them at the time. When it came to dressing them,
she put them in high collared gaudy dresses with low cut necklines and fur lining the
trim. Jewels decorated the fabric of each, revealing how they tried desperately to
show off their wealth, despite their motheractually having spent much of her parent
s money years ago. On their orders, she had painted their faces pure white with
powder and had even been ordered to do so with their bust. It was quite an
appalling process for her to say the least. By the time she was done, her stepsisters
looked horrible with their gaudy dresses and hair styles that did nothing to soften the
lookof their pale faces and dark red lips. Their style appalled Ashella, but then again,
they adhered to the idea of beauty that said showing off wealth was just as good as
actually being beautiful. Needless to say she was happy when they made their way
outside to the coach with their mother. The elder woman said,
Explain How Phenotypes Are Driven By Dna Inheritance

This paper will discuss how phenotypes are driven by DNA inheritance in offspring
by the genes known as alleles. Each parent provides an allele although on allele is
hidden in one parent and can be passed on to his or her offspring. The information
presented in the monohybrid cross that shows where one parent has the hidden allele
of a genethat carries the trait of orange eyes that disappears and reemerges later in
the genetic make up of an offspring. The inheritance in the offspring is driven by the
DNAof that individuals parents and the genetic traits one is born with are decided by
the dominant and recessive genes of his or her parents (www.nature.com, 2014).

the season changes. Consequently, my father s hair is black but my hair color based
on my hypothesis is that the dominant genes of my mother s traits is why my hair is
darkish brown.
The scientific method used to explain how I would test my hypothesis is to ask the
question of how many people of my family have black hair, brown hir and other
colors. Researching the different topics on genetics of hair color, what genes make up
hair color and then analyze the data by compiling all the information and data from
research and create a display to present the results to family.
In conclusion, there are several factors in DNA inheritance that makes each person
who they are from their hair color, eye color, height, and other genetic traits that are
inherited from our parents. Some are dominant and other are recessive that are passed

An argument against this point is that an increase in the supply of labour will lead
to a decrease in labour shortages in certain jobs. Especially in jobs that local
people don t find attractive for example low pay jobs like cleaners. Not only will
people take low pay jobs but also skilled workers who have good qualifications will
benefit the UK economy and its services for example highly skilled jobs such as
doctors. My final judgement is that the initial argument is a weak one because the
migrant workers will benefit the UK economy by taking jobs that have a shortage
of labour that maybe would not get done otherwise. An advantage to the UK of
free movement of labour within the EU is that migrant workers who come to UK
could contribute to the positive multiplier effect. This is when an initial increase
in aggregate demand can have a greater impact on GDP. The workers will be
spending in the UK, boosting aggregate demand and GDP. The rise in GDP will
create more jobs as firms look to expand. An argument against this point is that
shortages may appear when migrants return home because overall they want to
help their families in their own country. Spending may be decreased because of
this which will decrease aggregate demand and GDP. Also, this could lead to a
difficulty in long term stability because if they can leave as easily as they can arrive
then there will be a shortage of
Persistence and Qualitative Change
Persistence and qualitative change
The metaphysical idea of and object persisting over time brings rise to a lot of
debate on how we can properly identify a thing as it experiences qualitative change
over time. The main issue that arises when talking about persistence over time is
whether we can identify the initial thing we are observing as a different entity as
time progresses and it undergoes qualitative change. For example is some thing we
identify as x , that goes through a qualitative change at time T1, the same as the
thing x at time T2 after the change was implemented. There are many different views
on this topic and I will introduce three of them and then select the one I think is most
probable. The first view is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My initial thoughts about this is that is similar to a mathematical function were you
can get a y value (current state) for every x value (position in time) and that you only
get to see the whole function when you graph all x,y relations . Also the direction of
the graph can change (qualitative Change) depending on the function.
The three problems that arise with this theory is the assumption that the notion of
time is non existent and that a thing can never represent itself at any one time
because by the very definition of this theory it would be insufficient in
representing itself. The time issue is a consequence of a thing not being a whole
thing unless it s dispersed over time therefor a thing is only itself when time is one
frame . Using algebra to explain what I mean I can say that an object Q is equal to
Q only when the sum of all times t is equal to 1 because Q is equal to the sum of all
Q s corresponding to all times t . The third issue is that it denies that anything
changes (by our definition of change as a function of time) because it denies that
time is ongoing. This theory is not empirically supported because obviously we see
time as being ongoing and infinite also it is an overly complicated explanation for
what we seek.
The last theory is called the no persistence theory and it states that an object x does
not persist through time
Uncle Tom s Cabin Literary Analysis
Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe focuses on portraying the dependance
a slave s life is on their master. The protagonist in Uncle Tom s Cabin is Uncle Tom
; Uncle Tom is a slave who gets traded and sold old among other plantation owners.
Uncle Tom s personality is showed as passive and very religion based; he is a
Christian. Uncle Tom initially belonged to the Shelby family but due to economy
shortages they are forced to sell Uncle Tom along with Harry. Harry and his family
escape before they are sold to Mr. Hayley; thus, Mr. Hayley sends for them to be
found and captured but he does not succeed. Later Uncle Tom is sold to St. Clare

both verbal and physical abuse but he takes a particular hate in Tom becauses of

This source was useful because it assessed my question of How were African
Americans treated back in the times of slavery and racial distinctions? Uncle Tom s
Cabin provided me with the detailed horror of being a slave and the racism people of
color endured during their captivity. Uncle Tom s Cabin depicted how the fate of a
slave was in the hands of their master; it gave a clear picture of how a slave had no
control of their life. Uncle Tom s Cabin helped me understand the different
perspectives people had towards those of color back then which has helped me
compare and contrast those perspectives to the perspectives in today s time. It
provided me with views of both those who felt superior to the people of color, those
who did not and also of those who did feel slavery was unfair but did nothing about

Results presents graphical illustrations and a scatter diagram on this relationship
between the variables while Section 4 discusses the implications .
BACKGROUND
As a background for this report, the Online Education Database records that in recent
times, online universities have experienced rapid growth. However, this presents
some challenges to the higher education sector. In order to examine the relationship
between retention rate which is denoted by RR% and graduation rate; GR% for 29
online colleges.
METHOD
As a starting point, in order to determine the relationship between retention rate (RR
%) and the graduation rate (GR %), variables were run through the Data Analysis add
in tool on Microsoft Excel 2013. In all, the twenty nine (29) observations showed
descriptive statistics and simple linear regression results. Following this, a scatter
diagram was plotted to illustrate the linear relationship

When Industry Meets the Environment Essay
The Global Environment
When Industry Meets The Environment
The culture of industry has totally changed the way we see the world around us; from
the structure within our cities, to the degradation of the natural environment.
The industrial revolution began in Britain in 1760 (Griffin). Many historians claim
this happened because of a civil unrest in the country, which transformed into a
movement (Landes). Civil unrest stemmed from the poor living condition and the
poverty within the area. This also happened because new technologies emerged,
creating a new push for a commercial way of life. The largest component of the
revolution was the use of machines instead of doing work by hand. This is especially
true for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Factories were limited to certain areas of the land, which attracted workers around
to that area. Large buildings were built to accommodate the large numbers of
people surrounding the industrial cities. Life for the people in this urban setting
was extremely difficult, to say the least. With a rapid influx of people into certain
areas, proper preparation was abandoned: many cities and buildings lacked a sewer
system, proper roads, piped water, and even electricity. The industrial age saw an
influx of poverty in these urbanized areas, including starvation, and lack of health
care (Mantoux). This changed the entire culture of city life. Abandoning the rural life,
cities saw a loss of agricultural use, sense of space, cleanliness, and natural
landscapes. Cities built around industry reflected the industrial way of life; absent of
the culture of nature, the civilization of industry bloomed.
This image depicts the cramped living style around industrial cities. There were
people living on top of people, with poor life quality.
Another cultural impact of the industrial revolution was the emergence of capitalism.
Industry allowed for the mass production of goods, followed by the need of
services. Farmers left the life of self sustainability for a wage driven existence.
Products and services began commoditized on a larger scale, with currency being the
trading element. This totally reshaped the way
The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel
One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of
renewal and cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo
Buonarroti. The man that desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work.
He captured the motion of the human figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way
that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic. Whether because of one of
the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High
Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied
with awe throughout history.
Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic
change, only cultural and ideological development because it only affected a small
portion of the population, which were the rich and powerful scholars that had more
surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and architecture. One of these
families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the Florence s
leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican
government and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to
hold power and first Medici to be educated in the humanist tradition and was known
as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave Michelangelo the chance to become
the magnificent artist he was. The humanist movement, one that
Government Leaks
Federal leaks are the epitome of most presidencies; and the government should cut
down on leakers by finding the source from where they are leaking the information,
and destroy it altogether. Leaking is a common occurrence, and impossible to
eradicate all together. The issue with most leakers is that they leak information that is
highly sensitive to important government and military action. This could include
positions where military commanders are moving their troops, interventions the
United States government is planning in other countries, and even to the President s
daily location. Currently, the government try their hardest to eradicate leakers
throughout the globe. To solve this epidemic for the last time, the government has to

But the leaks have been more and more prevalent in the new administration then in
the latter. In an article written by Van Hipp for NewsMax, he writes about all the
leaks that the President has gone through so far, and what he can do to stop them
from occurring. Within the grand scheme of all of these leaks coming out is the
fact that a majority of them were from disloyal employees of the Trump
administration. Most Presidential administrations know by now that leaks are a
part of the business, but it still is not good for them to occur. Van Hipp points out
all of the leaks that keep coming out of Trump administration, and how all of them
are for the worst. He lists off all of the information that has been leaked, and the list
is a doozy. The leaked info entails everything from Michael Flynn and fake news, to
the President s phone call with the Australian Prime Minister. Hipp also talks about
how to make it all worse, And to top it off, after White House Press Secretary Sean
Spicer and Counsel Dan McGahn met with dozens of White House Staffers about
leaks, their meeting and warnings were then leaked. The leaks are becoming so bad
that the meetings to talk about press leaks being

I arrive on the scene on time. I open the door and there were at least a hundred
people at this event, maybe even more. There were probably about twenty five
artists that had their work displayed. Nobody recognized me. Perfect. I spotted
Luxenberg he was next to the champagne fountain with another man. His back
faced towards me. This was my cue to start. I slowly walked towards the
champagne fountain. I casually grabbed a teaspoon on the way and hid in my
pocket. I was right behind him and he wasn t even aware of it. I looked at the
glasses of champagne from the table. I picked up one of the glasses with my left
hand and extracted the small tablet and teaspoon out of my jacket with my right.
Then, when nobody was looking in my direction, I quickly dropped the tablet into
the glass. The capsule started fizzing, then dissolved immediately. I gave a quick
stir, then put the spoon back in my pocket. I grabbed another drink for myself.

Diabetes can cause serious health complications like heart disease, blindness,
kidney failure, and in more serious cases lower extremity amputations (Eckel et al
1). While common treatment suggested for patients with diabetes is diet and
exercise, the traditional forms for weight loss has been shown to not be very
effective. So, many persons with diabetes have resorted to surgically induced
weight loss (Buchwald et al). Although improvement in blood glucose control is
related to weight loss, a common problem compounded by diabetics is the
increased difficulty of losing weight, in comparison to a person without diabetes
(Dixon et al 2). The use of weight loss surgery has led to improvement and
remission of Type II diabetes mellitus, although diabetes was previously considered
a progressive and incurable disease (Slomski 762). In fact, some patients that
undergo bariatric surgery are able to leave the hospital without the need for
antidiabetic medication (Slomski 762). Weight loss not only reduces insulin
resistance, but diabetes is cured by bariatric surgery nearly 80% of the time
(Pasupathy 232). No other therapy has produced such durable and complete control
of diabetes mellitus (Pories et al

Garden Hoses
Choosing a garden hose has been a problem in the past because people aren t really
sure what type, size, and length they ll need. The most important piece of
information to remember is having the right type and size for the right job is vital.
This article will help you understand the differences in garden hoses and how one
could possibly be better than another. All garden hoses are not created equal and
depending on the type of work it will be used for, it will be important to find one
that is versatile, functional, and will last a long time. * Garden Hose Sizes The
standard garden size will come in either a 5/8 or 1/2 inch. This is not the size of
the end, this is only the size of the inside diameter itself. The basic end size is a 3/4
lawn and garden thread where it connects to your garden faucet. Many people are
not aware that the 3/4 size is not the same as pipe thread. Although sometimes you
may get it to thread on to 3/4 pipes, it will almost always leak and you will want to

The police in Rio de Janeiro regularly takes bribes from drug lords, abuses favela
citizens, and sells back drugs and firearms to the drug trade. Because of this, the
favela becomes scared of the police, which can make some places dangerous to be
at which can make it easier for people to be killed. The event of the tragic murder
in the favela Vigario Geral was a horrid and uneducated idea from the military police
as revenge for the gunning down of four policemen. In this senseless murder of
innocent civilians, 21 people were killed in their homes. Police entered random
houses, and shot multiple people and families without reservation, sorrow, or
evidence that these innocent people had anything to do with the drug trade within the
favela. A consequence of this massacre is the enhanced mistrust of the police force in
the favelas. This is because the people of the favela are afraid that the police could
come into their homes at anytime and shot everyone, or that the police could do
anything they want without repercussions for it, while the favela residents could not

The Lord Of The Ring
Tom Bombadil placed the magic ring on his finger; everyone waited for him to
disappear, but nothing happened, and he handed the ring back to Frodo without a
slight hesitation. Frodo offered Galadriel the ring and she grew into a horrible
creature towering over Frodo, but fought the ring s strong temptation, and finally
decreasing back to her normal self and declined the powerful ring. Both Tom and
Galadriel, in The Lord of the Ring, portray Tolkien s respect for nature and strong
spirituality, because they are powerful creatures, yet able to live a balanced life. Tom
Bombadilwas the master of the forest he lived in, and Frodo s magic ring had no
effect on him. Lady Galadriel was an Elf ruler and was able to withstand the
temptation of the magic ring. The magic ring symbolizes the corruption and power,
leading to an unsustainable world. For example, society has an unsustainable demand
for oil. Oil pipelines, such as the Keystone, have lessened the beauty of nature where
they have been built. Companies believe they have the right to construct pipelines
across the US at the expense of the environment. Humans must remember to value the
beauty of nature.
Tom Bombadil lived in the Old Forest, taking care of the nature, and singing
ridiculously silly songs. Tom, who lived with his wife Goldberry, provided a place
for Frodo, Sam, Marry, and Pippen to stay for the night. During the evening, Frodo
asked Goldberry, who Tom was. She replied that Tom was the master of the forest, the

The Music Of Stravinsky s First Ballet
The music of Stravinsky has always been ahead of time in the way of using new
and different ways of presenting music. His early ballets such as Firebird,
Petrushka, and The Rite of Spring being a great example of his modernism and will
to compose music which is both innovative and shocking. For this essay I have
chosen to write about The Firebird(1910) and The Rite of Spring(1913). Firebird was
Stravinsky s first Ballet and his first composition that reached many people because
of its modernism and exoticism. The Rite of Spring is still renowned for its portrayal
of primitivism, a concept that was accentuated by the riot that happened at its
premiere.
The reason why I have chosen to write about The Firebird is because it was
Stravinsky s first ballet and a milestone in modernist culture. Because of its modernist
attributes, The Firebird became very famous within ballet circles.
The reason why I have chosen to write about The Rite of Spring is because of the
controversy that surrounded it after its premiere. The ballet was so shocking to many
of the audience members because some of the concepts explored in it were so
different and new to them.
The Firebird is based on the Russian legend of the firebird and is said to be a
beautiful large red, orange and yellow bird. In the ballet, it is played by a ballet
dancer whose costume is that of a half bird and half man. In the 1900s, ballet
costumes tended o be very elegant, and often in pale colours. However, when

sides by not only scientist but also psychologist, because it decides to succeed in
life. In the following essay, the benefits and the drawbacks of this problem will be

Let s begin by looking at some definitions. Sinistral people are left handed dominance,
which means they prefer to write and manipulate with left hand. While ambidextrous
people are able to do tasks equally well with both hands. According to Carey (Right

Firstly, Prof. Crow suggested that ambidextrous people have a risk of slower
development of both verbal and non verbal skills (Raderson, 2001). A study of

behavior, language ability and school performance. Results showed that the 7 8 years
old ambidextrous children acted like right handed peers, but had difficulty with
languages, speaking and do math poorly at school. Secondly, by age 15 16, these
children also have twice the risk of ADHD symptom. ADHD stands for Attention
Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, which means children have difficulty sustaining
attention, troubled relationships, impulsive behavior and also struggle with low self
esteem and perform badly at school (Ambidextrous children may have more problems
in school, 2010). Those results may make the ambidextrous children s parents
disappointed and worried. Despite those results, Crow claimed that ambidextrous
children just develop later than others, otherwise, they might have a completely
different way to develop (Randerson,
Gold Price Is A Good Indicator Essay
Introduction
Gold has been controversial in recent years due to the sharp increase in gold price.
Global Economic Crisis in the year 2008 brought about uncertainty in the global
economy. Jewelry, healthcare, and industrial applications involve the use of gold.
Investment in gold by governments, institutions, private persons and households is
another use of gold. Gold became insurance in economic uncertainty. In uncertain and
fragile macroeconomic conditions, we can get protection from inflation through gold.
Gold price is a good indicator to evaluate the health of the economy. Gold price
becomes high in the unhealthy economy because the investors start assembling gold
to protect them from inflation. Drop in gold price means the economy is healthy, as
investors switch from gold to other more profitable investments like bonds, stocks,
real estate, etc. To understand the economy, therefore, it is vital to understand the
fluctuations in gold prices.
It is used as a tool in diversifying portfolios, hedging and risk mitigation. The risk in
financial market could be reduced by investing in gold, as it is a safe haven (Le
and Chang, 2011). The price of gold is directly affected by the perceptions about
the economy. Gold as an economic indicator is questioned by some researchers, but
it is still recognized as inflation and exchange rate hedge. Gold is considered as a
safe asset in turmoil, investors like to invest in it
Governments give high value to gold. Due to this reason,

#2 Failing To Meet Deadlines
The second mistake that many applicants make is failing to meet the deadlines that
the Social Security Administration sets for them. It is vitally important that you take
these deadlines seriously. As soon as you are notified that additional documentation is
needed, you should do everything you can to get that document together and send it
off immediately.
When you send it off ahead of time, that gives you time to verify and make sure that
the documents are received and were what the SSA wanted to receive.
If you wait to send it until right before the deadline, you risk your paperwork not
being received and processed on time. When you do this, you also don t give
yourself any time to send additional paperwork if what you sent the first time is not
what the SSA was actually looking for.

Easy Rider and the Phenomenon of the 1960 s
Counterculture...
In the following essay, I will attempt to highlight the phenomenon in cinema known
as the counterculture youth pic. This trend in production started in the late 1960 s as
a result of the economic and cultural influences on the film industry of that time. The
following essay looks at how those influences helped to shape a new genre in the film
industry, sighting Easy Rideras a main example, and suggests some possible reasons
for the relatively short popularity of the genre. The standard story of the
counterculture begins with an account of the social order against which it rebelled,
a social order that was known to just about everyone by 1960 as the mass society.

And towards the end of the 1960 s one of those symbols became the counterculture
youthpic film. As for America, the poor boy and rich girl story (or rich boy and
poor girl), which was the staple of the popular film before World War II, had
disappeared. Money as romance had receded, not because everyone was now rich
but because the middle class image has replaced both the poor image and the rich
image. There was, for example, little difference in appearance between the clerk s car
and the boss s. The ascendancy of the middle class had reached the point where it was
strong enough to control cultural forms, and to magnify its own image in art. (Frank,
Conquest) The movie industry at the time had been filling the screens with
spectacular productions, melodramatic love stories, and popular culture. These films,
which were very successful early on, soon became clichГ©d, and were no longer
profitable. For the first time in its history, Hollywood was having trouble pleasing the
audience. The culture of the time had worked so hard to condition American
audiences to accept a certain image onscreen, that they had removed their desire for
change. Despite its apparent enthusiasm, goes the standard binary narrative, the
Establishment was deeply threatened and in mortal conflict with a counterculture that
aimed to undermine its cherished ethics of hard work and conformity. Easy Rider

Abstract 2d Photonic Crystal ( Pc ) Based Power Splitter
Abstract 2D photonic crystal (PC) based power splitter with 60В° bend corners is
designed and analyzed. The splitting efficiency at its bends has been improved by
encapsulating rectangular defect, thereby increasing the power transmission of about
98.1%. A simple antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide (ARROW B) is a
polarization insensitive wave guiding, which utilizes antiresonance reflection and
provides better coupling when compared with conventional wave guiding. We
performed three dimensional finite difference time domain (3 D FDTD) simulation
to calculate the power transmission of Y splitter with ARROW B which is about
93.3%. The PC thus designed can provides good sharp bend ability and power split

Light propagation in photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) is possible in terms of
artificially induced defect region [3], However, by incorporating defects in the
waveguide, certain wavelengths belong to the band gap can propagate strictly within
the defects. The defects can be in the form of line defects to achieve photonic crystal
waveguides or point defects producing optical cavities. We have presented an
efficient power splitter, which divides the propagating optical power equally between
the two branching line defects.
Whereas, an important crisis in power splitter is that how light get efficiently
transmitted via the bend corners. For that various methods have been proposed i.
Providing row of pores with smaller diameter ii. Coupled cavity design and iii. Three
pore rows wide defect [2]. Although these techniques can significantly increase the
splitting efficiency, complicated time consuming computation is needed,
consequently an alternate method is proposed to improve the power split ability by
incorporating rectangular capsule shaped defect at its bends [4]. These defects with
higher refractive index contrast provide better reflection as compared to that of other
methods mentioned. Besides the main source of propagation losses in 2D PCW has
been believed to be the guided modes position above the light line, since modes
above the light line can easily

childhood days. To be clear, the programs from Cartoon Network and CW, albums
from Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper, and the YouTube channel, Game
Grumps, have all affected my life and values I share. To start off, the programs
from Cartoon Network, and CW had a major impact to my childhood. Cartoon

Game Grumps is a video game YouTube channel by Danny Avidan, Arin Hanson,
Suzy Berhow, Barry Kramer, Ross O Donovan, and Brian Wecht. I chose Game
Grumps because they helped me find my best friends and help me find some of
the kid that I lost growing up. Danny and Arin are the main hosts of the channel
and they play some of the popular video games that I played such as Legend of
Zelda: Wind Waker, Pokemon, Dark Souls, etc. Game Grumps always brings back
memories of when I used to play the video games that they play on their channel
and the times that I use to just hang out with my best friends watching Game
Grumps. I found some of my good friends through the channel. They also talk about
their experience with real life issues, such as depression, love, friendship while also
goofing off as well. Game Grumps has given me the values of individuality and to
promote positive to the world. It is always nice to hear someone go through the same
thing as you did like depression and loneliness. Overall Game Grumps has helped me
substantially find myself and my friend group throughout my high school and
throughout the

Macro Lens
Ever see a spectacular photo of a flower online and wonder the process behind that
picture? Well, professional photographers buy expensive equipment like, lenses,
tripods and extension tubes to take clear crisp photos that have a blurred
background. They use composition techniques like the angle of attack to change
the look of their photo. Finally, professionals edit their photos to make colors pop,
brighten shadows and darken highlights. Using good equipment, skill and editing,
professional photographers can create spectacular close up photos. Professional
photographers use expensive equipment to take beautiful pictures. Nice lenses
make photos with bokeh (a Japanese word for blur) in the background, but these
are usually pricy. Evin Oke, a professional photographer, says his $700 macro lens
is the best money I have ever spent (picturecorrect.com). Macro lenses are designed
to take close up photos, thus enabling a photographer to make a small object appear
larger. To make a photo more clear and crisp... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The human eye finds things of three appealing; this is why many photographers
such as Bryan Peterson use the Rule of Thirds. Shapes, curves, and patterns make a
photo more interesting because they create dimension in a photo. An example of
this is if a photographer goes to the market and takes an apple and places it on top
of the pile of oranges. The apple stands out against the oranges patterns, shapes and
curves. A way to create a more dynamic image is to change the angle from which
you shoot. (picturecorrect.com). This is called angle of attack and photographers
use it often because it can change the look of a photo dramatically. Shooting many
pictures of flowers may get boring and repetitive after time, but if a photographer
changes his shooting angle, he can create a completely different photo. Taking
visually attractive photos requires a variety of skills to compose the
An Interview By Roger Ebert
An interview is a form of nonfiction a text that tells the truth. Do you think Jones is
being truthful in his observations of Roger Ebert? Do you Ebert is being truthful in
his statements about himself? Are you more likely to believe when someone else
says about a person or what the person says about himself or herself? Explain your
reasoning. I do not know anything about Roger Ebertbeyond these articles, but I
assume Jones is being truthful about his observations of Ebert. I do not believe
there is any reason to be anything, but truthful about his observations. Again, I do
not see any reason to not be truthful, so I am sure Ebert is being truthful as well
about himself. I think it depends on the person to believe what they have to say
about themselves opposed to what others may say because some people know
themselves more than others and might know who they are better than someone else,
but in other cases others may know the person more deeply than the person knows
themself, so I think it is just picking and choosing what you want to believe.
How are emotional pain and loss different from physical pain and loss? Can the
two be compared fairly? Emotional pain and loss lingers in people s minds and
often stays with them for a lifetime and can often cause distress on people s
character while physical pain and loss is strictly present I think because if you hurt
somewhere physically it is often temporary and if you lose a loved one on the
physical world that person s
How Living as a Christian Disciple May Influence the
Lives...
How Living as a Christian Disciple May Influence the Lives of Christians Today
Christianity is an entire way of life. It s not only a part of your life it is your whole
life. It is a sense of being with God. It is not a one way system, but in fact a two way
bond. Being a disciple of God gives you a sense of who you are. You have the
position of being part of God s children as well as being a child of your parents.
This is an incomparable feeling. A Christian is a person who lives their life daily for
God. By praying on a regular basis, reacting positively not negatively with people and
being an optimistic person rather than a pessimistic one. Christianity focuses a lot on
how people treat others.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your attitude towards people is very important. Being a Christian affects what
career you wish to pursue. Certain professions are considered unethical and
therefore are not allowed. A job such as working in an abortion clinic, you are
taking away a life which has a right to live, which is unjust. Another job which
gives people grief is a traffic warden. A Christian has an important role to play in
the family and in the home. There must be peaceful negotiation and they must
always remember that children usually learn from the examples of their parents.
So as a parent you must do good things and not bad. You must know how to
function in a family. To be a dedicated Christian you are required to visit the church
on a regular basis and to pray daily. At church Christians have communion, usually
once a week. This is red wine and bread which s also called the Eucharist. The
Eucharist is the ceremony in which Christ s last meal with his disciples is
celebrated with bread and wine, the bread symbolizes Jesus body and the wine Jesus
blood. Although some Christians do not believe in going to church for example,
Quakers and the Salvation Army. Quakers are Christians who do not have set
services or have no ceremonies and do not do repeated rituals. The Salvation Army
consider that you should be careful and make sure that ceremonies do

Aziz In A Passage To India
Why talk about the English? Brrrr...! An Outlook on Aziz s Attempts to Bridge the
Gap A Passage To India by E. M. Forster is a rich, postcolonial novel delving into
the possibility of sustaining a personal friendship between an English person and an
Indian person. This topic is being discussed in the beginning of the novel at the home
of Hamidullah, ... they were discussing as to whether or no(t) it is possible to be
friends with an Englishman. Mahmoud Ali argued that it was not, Hamidullah
disagreed, but with so many reservations... (Forster 7) Aziz, who the novel centers
around, has the disposition to just shut them out and ignore them and all will be jolly.
Of course, later, we find Aziz does not shut them out and rather... Show more content

She naturally brings criminal charges against him and ruins any chances of that
relationship continuing. I see no point in elaborating on this subject because it is
so cut and dry. This relationship did not last and was destined for failure from that
prig of an Englishwoman. Mrs. Moore and Aziz s relationship is a bit more tangled
than the cut and dry experience with Ms. Quested. Aziz only has three meetings
with Mrs. Moore. Both characters have this great fondness for the other with no
substance. They have some superficial similarities and Aziz proclaims she s
Oriental! It seems like both want an unconventional friendship so acutely they
immediately gravitate towards this love that transcends race lines. When Fielding
misses the train and Aziz realizes he ll be alone with the two women his feelings
from the mosque come rushing back for Mrs. Moore, She was perfect as always,
his dear Mrs. Moore. (Forster 145) But there is no real substance to their friendship
only feelings and emotions. Fielding accurately describes the real relationship
between the two, to Aziz on the roof after the trial, You are so fantastic.... Miss
Quested, you won t treat her generously;... Miss Quested anyhow behaved decently
this morning, whereas the old lady never did anything for you at all. (Forster 282)
Fielding is absolutely correct, Mrs. Moore never actually does anything for Aziz
except be a friendly, slightly senile old lady. In fact
Advantages And Disadvantages Of BFSI Management
DLT DRIVEN BFSI TECHNOLOGICAL CONVENTIONS INTRODUCTION
Globally, the BFSI sector is of immense prominence to the world economy as it
generates over a third of global service sector revenues. BFSI is standard industry
terminology for Banking, Financial Services Insurance, that spans across companies
and banks that provide a wide range of financial products services, other than
transaction settlement. Today, banks are being challenged over banking the
unbanked, credit disbursement, increasing number of non performing assets,
technological hurdles, risk management and contingency planning... etc. Similarly,
Insurance and other financial services are facing challenges such as rural market

The chain is a timeline of all transaction blocks as discussed above. This chain itself
is a ledger that records in real time all events associated with the block and makes it
publicly visible. A new block can be added to the chain only when one of the
network nodes (participant) successfully solves a complex mathematical problem
that often requires high computing power, and gains the right to add the next block.
These complex, algorithm rich computations can also be called as proof of work
/stake computations, which make blockchain almost Sybil resistant, and its
decentralized nature gives it a high level of Byzantine Fault Tolerance . Complex,
algorithm rich proof of work computations also act as the consensus mechanism that
ensures a high level of data integrity to the transactions on blockchain and reduces
chances of falsified entries. People who use high computational power to solve
proof of work computations and add the blocks to the chain are called miners in
blockchain; they are also the network nodes. To briefly anatomize blockchain
transactions, transactions are initially encrypted and added to an online ledger. It is
further sent into the blockchain network where network nodes take them up in a
block and solve complex proof of work computations to add the next block onto the

Lord Of The Flies Character Essay. Lord Of The Flies - GCSE English - Marked by Teachers.com

  • 1. Lord Of The Flies Character Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Lord of the Flies Character" can be quite challenging due to the intricacies involved in analyzing the characters from William Golding's novel. The characters in "Lord of the Flies" are complex and multifaceted, each representing different aspects of human nature and societal dynamics. Crafting an essay requires a deep understanding of the characters, their motivations, and the symbolism embedded in the narrative. To begin with, one must delve into the psychological aspects of characters such as Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon. Analyzing their individual development throughout the story, exploring the impact of their interactions, and deciphering the symbolism attached to each character is a demanding task. The essay should not only focus on the characters' actions but also on their evolving relationships and the symbolism Golding employs to convey deeper meanings. Furthermore, addressing the broader themes of the novel, such as the descent into savagery, the loss of civilization, and the inherent darkness within human nature, adds another layer of complexity. The challenge lies in articulating a cohesive argument that captures the essence of the characters while also exploring the broader themes and messages embedded in the narrative. Moreover, constructing a well-organized essay requires meticulous planning and a clear understanding of the overarching thesis. The writer must skillfully weave together textual evidence, literary analysis, and critical interpretation to support their arguments. Striking the right balance between summary and analysis is crucial, ensuring that the essay not only describes the characters but also interprets their significance within the context of the novel. In conclusion, crafting a compelling essay on the characters in "Lord of the Flies" demands a profound understanding of the novel's themes, characters, and symbolism. It requires analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to articulate complex ideas coherently. While challenging, successfully navigating this task can lead to a deeper appreciation of the literary work and its profound insights into human nature. • 2. Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by Oates For centuries, society has placed a remarkably large emphasis on protecting the young from the many perceived errors of growing up. Effective sex education is resisted in many locations across the country in favor of somewhat comical biblical suggestions for abstinence until marriage even while the majority of those targeted teens are viewing the world as a more and more sexual place. So many views are weaving in and out of teenagers newly formed adolescent minds that any effective argument for responsible attitudes or analysis of sexual behavior in teens should be expressed with a certain minimal degree of clarity. Unfortunately, this essential lucidity of advice is missing in the short storyWhere are You Going, Where Have You Been, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If that isn t enough, the story ends on another swing, suggesting that Connie was taken up... by the sunlit reaches of the land behind him and on all sides of him... (Oates, n.p.), switching back to more positive diction. Oates portrayal of Friend vacillates enough that readers can t develop a definitive opinion of Arthur Friend other than a collective agreement that Arthur Friend is a creep. Another serious yet in a sense comical problem with the story is it s sheer density. Not content with merely writing an essay on teenage sexuality or a short narrative about a girl named Connie who s just being introduced to the reality of relationships, Oates feels the need to write a symbol filled story with demons and secret codes like 33 19 17 included in order to... what, though? To confuse the reader and have them empathize with Connie? I don t know about empathizing, but confusion, if it was an intention, tends to be very successful. To further my understanding of this story, I thought to look up some possible meanings of those three numbers on Friend s golden car, not necessarily in an academic sense, but just out of curiosity as to how other readers interpreted those numbers. The results ranged from a bible verse with a translation of the title in the passage (you need to count backwards) to the ages of

  • 4. Nursing Core Competencies As the healthcare industry changes, challenges arise for the healthcare administrators of acute care organizations. One of these challenges includes the need to ensure that every member of the nursing staff is competent within this continuously changing environment. Competence is not an achievement; it is a habit of lifelong learning. The Joint Commission defines competencies as the knowledge, skills, aptitude and behaviors that an individual possesses in order to perform tasks correctly and skillfully. Assessments intend to protect patients through identifying incompetent nurses, optimizing the capability of each nurse by providing incentives and a path for future learning. In addition, assessments can assist a healthcare administrator with choosing an applicant for advanced training. Types of Assessments Assessments can be summative or formative. Formative refers to offering reassurance, providing a path for future learning, shaping values and encouraging reflection. Summative assessments are used to make judgments as to a nurse s competency, fitness to practice and qualifications for advancement. Competency Assessment Techniques In the U.S., aspects of a model developed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) are used to assess medical residents and medical students. The nursing industry can also use this model as a means to improve assessment techniques. • 5. The Importance Of Corporal Workforcement Motivational tools have been used since schools have been around. They have changed drastically through the years and studies have helped schools adapt to their age group. We talked to Pleasant Hill Middle School teachers to get their opinion on the motivational tools currently being used at their school, and to determine which they feel is the most effective. Disciplinary tools have changed a lot since one hundred, or even fifty years ago. Corporal punishment was much more prominent and is still legal in nineteen states. Although corporal punishment may be more effective in getting students to stop bad behavior as compared to something like a detention, it has a host of negative impacts on students. According to hrw.org (human rights watch) corporal punishment can have harsh physical impacts, like deep bruising and bleeding, but mental impacts as well. Hrw.org also says that in relation to corporal punishment, it has been shown that students, have reported subsequent problems with depression, fear and anger , as well as diminishing student teacher trust and a safe learning environment. We know the information from the past, but what does modern science have to say? Studies have shown that among adolescents, positive reinforcement is cognitively registered more efficiently and kept in the mind longer than punishment. According to medicaldaily.com, adolescents are likely to be more receptive to positive reinforcement of good behavior than to being punished for

Participants age ranged from 16 to 60 (M = 24.08, SD = 7.84). This sample consisted of 77% Hispanic (N = 104), 11% Caucasian (N = 15), 5% African American (N = 7), 4% Asian (N = 6), and 2% who reported another ethnicity (N = 3). Materials and Procedure Participants willing to take part in this study were asked for an oral informed consent. An oral yes or no response was accepted. After consenting to participate, participants were asked to randomly select one of three writing task documents where they were first asked to describe an event in their life. Once the writing task was completed, participants were asked to complete a written survey titled the Feeling Questionnaire where the participant was asked to reveal how they were currently feeling about themselves. The questionnaire was broken down into three parts. Part one and part two supplied responses on a rating scale and part three supplied demographic information. The questionnaire was set up in a way that questions 1, 2 and 3 in part one were designed to assess a participant s self esteem and was measured on a rating scale of 1 to 9 with 1 being strongly disagree and 9 being strongly agree. The writing task was our primary independent variable for this study, which placed one third of the participants in the Dissonance condition (D), one third

There has been some good changes and there have been some bad changes. Some changes to Europe include the Hungary attack. The Soviet troops were ordered to attack Hungary. As a result to this, a new Hungarian Revolutionary government was formed to protect the hungarian people, and provide them aid in the form of soldiers and firearms. There was also a wall built to separate west and east Berlin. There were also some changes in Latin America. The U.S. did not trust Cuba, being a Communist government country. • 8. Drinking Age In The Military The current drinking age should not be lowered to 18 despite the responsibilities that are given at that age. While at age 18 teenagers receive a handful of new choices and responsibilities. Of those some may argue that if at 18 teenagers can join the military and are ultimately risking their life that they also should be able have the choice of consuming alcohol. Along with everything else granted to an 18 year old as they enter adulthood it is not enough to lower the legal drinking age. Let us start with the strongest comment of this argument, joining the military. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, describe the types of occupations and the number of enlisted personals in each occupation in a table. The table includes the total amount of personals enlisted in combat specialty for all branches of military at 151,501(Table 1).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The table provided a total number of how many military personals are combat specialty and the total of enlisted personals of all the branches combined. The percent of personals in combat of the total amount is approximately 7.2%. Based on these calculations, the percent of personnel enlisted in combat is a tiny percentage of total of all personnel enlisted. Clearly, stating that being able to join the military at 18 is a valid reason to lower the drinking age is because it involves them risking their life but, it an exaggerated to make it sound like it does. When an 18 year old joins the military, it does not necessarily mean that their life is immediately put at risk, so it does not justify the reason of lowering the legal drinking age, and not every single 18 year old is joining the military

The actual founding date of Tengriism has not been confirmed, but it is believed to have begun sometime around the Bronze Age, which lasted from 3,300 B.C. through to 1,200 B.C. It is one of the oldest religions, and includes characteristics of shamanism, animism, totemism, both polytheism and monotheism, and ancestor worship. Beowulf A New Telling Analysis Beowulf a New Telling by Robert Nye was a very unusual yet interesting story because of how the author use sensory details and figurative language, this story also showed many themes since each character acted a different way and added a new theme. During the story Beowulf shows both good and evil in his character in many different ways. He tries to save the land of the Danes by killing an evil soul named Grendel who haunts Hall Heorot and Grendel s mother by swimming down into a pool of blood to defeat her. While doing these things Beowulfhas t5o deal with Unferth, an old drunken fellow who disagreed with the killing of Grendel. Once Beowulf had done what he had came to do he decided that it was time to go back to the land of the Geats which was his hometown. There he became the King and defeated the Firedrake, a lizard like creature that haunted the burying places of men. Beowulf was aging and soon after that he passed and was buried at a great green fist of land that stuck out into the sea and was remembered for his great events that were haunting the people of the Danes and Geats. Throughout this book there are many different themes that come about. One that I saw many different times throughout the story was generosity. Beowulf showed it very much during the story. Some examples of him showing it is when he volunteered to go fight off Grendel without hesitation. Also when he said that he would go swim down to the bottom of the blood pool to defeat and put
  • 11. The Influence Of Beauty In The Media Nowadays people are all constantly connected and surrounded by media and advertisements, it is almost impossible to avoid the ideas that media exposes, but is it all fun and games? Media and advertising are very powerful sources of both communication and information; moreover, teenagers are constantly using it and being targeted by it more than any other age group. Media influences many behaviors and ideas that teenagers have, greatly affecting them because they resort to media to learn about beauty standards and more. Often times resulting in twisted perceptions of beauty. Over time the ideal of beauty changes because it depends on what is popular/in style during that time period. In addition, some culture s beauty ideals are different from other cultures. However in every culture there is an ideal of beauty that is expected to be followed by their people. By definition beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. People have their own vision of beauty so anything can be seen as beauty, it just depends in the eye of the beholder. However, instead of allowing people to have their own ideal of beauty one was created for them. In American culture, beauty is centered upon body image. Advertisements and social media create and set an ideal of beauty for teenagers that is impossible to accomplish. This unachievable beauty standard can harshly affect the teens in negative ways, but it is highly

Many times throughout the process she had to force herself not to giggle as her stepsisters asked for increasingly ridiculous elements to be added to their look. She had plucked their hairlines to give them a more prominent forehead. This of course, had led to much whining and scolding from the two as they believed she was hurting them on purpose. They had acted like babies, but Ashella certainly didn t say that out load to them at the time. When it came to dressing them, she put them in high collared gaudy dresses with low cut necklines and fur lining the trim. Jewels decorated the fabric of each, revealing how they tried desperately to show off their wealth, despite their motheractually having spent much of her parent s money years ago. On their orders, she had painted their faces pure white with powder and had even been ordered to do so with their bust. It was quite an appalling process for her to say the least. By the time she was done, her stepsisters looked horrible with their gaudy dresses and hair styles that did nothing to soften the lookof their pale faces and dark red lips. Their style appalled Ashella, but then again, they adhered to the idea of beauty that said showing off wealth was just as good as actually being beautiful. Needless to say she was happy when they made their way outside to the coach with their mother. The elder woman said,

Especially in jobs that local people don t find attractive for example low pay jobs like cleaners. Not only will people take low pay jobs but also skilled workers who have good qualifications will benefit the UK economy and its services for example highly skilled jobs such as doctors. My final judgement is that the initial argument is a weak one because the migrant workers will benefit the UK economy by taking jobs that have a shortage of labour that maybe would not get done otherwise. An advantage to the UK of free movement of labour within the EU is that migrant workers who come to UK could contribute to the positive multiplier effect. This is when an initial increase in aggregate demand can have a greater impact on GDP. The workers will be spending in the UK, boosting aggregate demand and GDP. The rise in GDP will create more jobs as firms look to expand. An argument against this point is that shortages may appear when migrants return home because overall they want to help their families in their own country. Spending may be decreased because of this which will decrease aggregate demand and GDP. Also, this could lead to a difficulty in long term stability because if they can leave as easily as they can arrive then there will be a shortage of
  • 17. Persistence and Qualitative Change Persistence and qualitative change The metaphysical idea of and object persisting over time brings rise to a lot of debate on how we can properly identify a thing as it experiences qualitative change over time. The main issue that arises when talking about persistence over time is whether we can identify the initial thing we are observing as a different entity as time progresses and it undergoes qualitative change. For example is some thing we identify as x , that goes through a qualitative change at time T1, the same as the thing x at time T2 after the change was implemented. There are many different views on this topic and I will introduce three of them and then select the one I think is most probable. The first view is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My initial thoughts about this is that is similar to a mathematical function were you can get a y value (current state) for every x value (position in time) and that you only get to see the whole function when you graph all x,y relations . Also the direction of the graph can change (qualitative Change) depending on the function. The three problems that arise with this theory is the assumption that the notion of time is non existent and that a thing can never represent itself at any one time because by the very definition of this theory it would be insufficient in representing itself. The time issue is a consequence of a thing not being a whole thing unless it s dispersed over time therefor a thing is only itself when time is one frame . Using algebra to explain what I mean I can say that an object Q is equal to Q only when the sum of all times t is equal to 1 because Q is equal to the sum of all Q s corresponding to all times t . The third issue is that it denies that anything changes (by our definition of change as a function of time) because it denies that time is ongoing. This theory is not empirically supported because obviously we see time as being ongoing and infinite also it is an overly complicated explanation for what we seek. The last theory is called the no persistence theory and it states that an object x does not persist through time

Uncle Tom s Cabin provided me with the detailed horror of being a slave and the racism people of color endured during their captivity. Uncle Tom s Cabin depicted how the fate of a slave was in the hands of their master; it gave a clear picture of how a slave had no control of their life. Uncle Tom s Cabin helped me understand the different perspectives people had towards those of color back then which has helped me compare and contrast those perspectives to the perspectives in today s time. It provided me with views of both those who felt superior to the people of color, those who did not and also of those who did feel slavery was unfair but did nothing about

  • 21. When Industry Meets the Environment Essay The Global Environment When Industry Meets The Environment The culture of industry has totally changed the way we see the world around us; from the structure within our cities, to the degradation of the natural environment. The industrial revolution began in Britain in 1760 (Griffin). Many historians claim this happened because of a civil unrest in the country, which transformed into a movement (Landes). Civil unrest stemmed from the poor living condition and the poverty within the area. This also happened because new technologies emerged, creating a new push for a commercial way of life. The largest component of the revolution was the use of machines instead of doing work by hand. This is especially true for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Factories were limited to certain areas of the land, which attracted workers around to that area. Large buildings were built to accommodate the large numbers of people surrounding the industrial cities. Life for the people in this urban setting was extremely difficult, to say the least. With a rapid influx of people into certain areas, proper preparation was abandoned: many cities and buildings lacked a sewer system, proper roads, piped water, and even electricity. The industrial age saw an influx of poverty in these urbanized areas, including starvation, and lack of health care (Mantoux). This changed the entire culture of city life. Abandoning the rural life, cities saw a loss of agricultural use, sense of space, cleanliness, and natural landscapes. Cities built around industry reflected the industrial way of life; absent of the culture of nature, the civilization of industry bloomed. This image depicts the cramped living style around industrial cities. There were people living on top of people, with poor life quality. Another cultural impact of the industrial revolution was the emergence of capitalism. Industry allowed for the mass production of goods, followed by the need of services. Farmers left the life of self sustainability for a wage driven existence. Products and services began commoditized on a larger scale, with currency being the trading element. This totally reshaped the way

The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of renewal and cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo Buonarroti. The man that desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work. He captured the motion of the human figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic. Whether because of one of the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied with awe throughout history. Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic change, only cultural and ideological development because it only affected a small portion of the population, which were the rich and powerful scholars that had more surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and architecture. One of these families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the Florence s leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican government and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to hold power and first Medici to be educated in the humanist tradition and was known as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave Michelangelo the chance to become the magnificent artist he was. So, many persons with diabetes have resorted to surgically induced weight loss (Buchwald et al). Although improvement in blood glucose control is related to weight loss, a common problem compounded by diabetics is the increased difficulty of losing weight, in comparison to a person without diabetes (Dixon et al 2). For this essay I have chosen to write about The Firebird(1910) and The Rite of Spring(1913). Firebird was Stravinsky s first Ballet and his first composition that reached many people because of its modernism and exoticism. The Rite of Spring is still renowned for its portrayal of primitivism, a concept that was accentuated by the riot that happened at its premiere. The reason why I have chosen to write about The Firebird is because it was Stravinsky s first ballet and a milestone in modernist culture. The reason why I have chosen to write about The Rite of Spring is because of the controversy that surrounded it after its premiere. Investment in gold by governments, institutions, private persons and households is another use of gold. Gold became insurance in economic uncertainty. In uncertain and fragile macroeconomic conditions, we can get protection from inflation through gold. Gold price is a good indicator to evaluate the health of the economy. Gold price becomes high in the unhealthy economy because the investors start assembling gold to protect them from inflation. Drop in gold price means the economy is healthy, as investors switch from gold to other more profitable investments like bonds, stocks, real estate, etc. To understand the economy, therefore, it is vital to understand the fluctuations in gold prices. It is used as a tool in diversifying portfolios, hedging and risk mitigation. The risk in financial market could be reduced by investing in gold, as it is a safe haven (Le and Chang, 2011). The price of gold is directly affected by the perceptions about the economy. Gold as an economic indicator is questioned by some researchers, but it is still recognized as inflation and exchange rate hedge. Gold is considered as a safe asset in turmoil, investors like to invest in it Governments give high value to gold. Due to this reason,

The following essay looks at how those influences helped to shape a new genre in the film industry, sighting Easy Rideras a main example, and suggests some possible reasons for the relatively short popularity of the genre. As for America, the poor boy and rich girl story (or rich boy and poor girl), which was the staple of the popular film before World War II, had disappeared. Money as romance had receded, not because everyone was now rich but because the middle class image has replaced both the poor image and the rich image. There was, for example, little difference in appearance between the clerk s car and the boss s. The ascendancy of the middle class had reached the point where it was strong enough to control cultural forms, and to magnify its own image in art. These films, which were very successful early on, soon became clichГ©d, and were no longer profitable. For the first time in its history, Hollywood was having trouble pleasing the audience. The defects can be in the form of line defects to achieve photonic crystal waveguides or point defects producing optical cavities. We have presented an efficient power splitter, which divides the propagating optical power equally between the two branching line defects. Whereas, an important crisis in power splitter is that how light get efficiently transmitted via the bend corners. For that various methods have been proposed i. Well, professional photographers buy expensive equipment like, lenses, tripods and extension tubes to take clear crisp photos that have a blurred background. They use composition techniques like the angle of attack to change the look of their photo. Finally, professionals edit their photos to make colors pop, brighten shadows and darken highlights. Using good equipment, skill and editing, professional photographers can create spectacular close up photos. Professional photographers use expensive equipment to take beautiful pictures. Nice lenses make photos with bokeh (a Japanese word for blur) in the background, but these are usually pricy. Evin Oke, a professional photographer, says his $700 macro lens is the best money I have ever spent (picturecorrect.com). The human eye finds things of three appealing; this is why many photographers such as Bryan Peterson use the Rule of Thirds. Shapes, curves, and patterns make a photo more interesting because they create dimension in a photo. An example of this is if a photographer goes to the market and takes an apple and places it on top of the pile of oranges. The apple stands out against the oranges patterns, shapes and curves. A way to create a more dynamic image is to change the angle from which you shoot. (picturecorrect.com). This is called angle of attack and photographers use it often because it can change the look of a photo dramatically. Shooting many pictures of flowers may get boring and repetitive after time, but if a photographer changes his shooting angle, he can create a completely different photo. Taking visually attractive photos requires a variety of skills to compose the
  • 43. An Interview By Roger Ebert An interview is a form of nonfiction a text that tells the truth. Do you think Jones is being truthful in his observations of Roger Ebert? Do you Ebert is being truthful in his statements about himself? Are you more likely to believe when someone else says about a person or what the person says about himself or herself? Explain your reasoning. I do not know anything about Roger Ebertbeyond these articles, but I assume Jones is being truthful about his observations of Ebert. I do not believe there is any reason to be anything, but truthful about his observations. Again, I do not see any reason to not be truthful, so I am sure Ebert is being truthful as well about himself. I think it depends on the person to believe what they have to say about themselves opposed to what others may say because some people know themselves more than others and might know who they are better than someone else, but in other cases others may know the person more deeply than the person knows themself, so I think it is just picking and choosing what you want to believe. How are emotional pain and loss different from physical pain and loss? Can the two be compared fairly? Emotional pain and loss lingers in people s minds and often stays with them for a lifetime and can often cause distress on people s character while physical pain and loss is strictly present I think because if you hurt somewhere physically it is often temporary and if you lose a loved one on the physical world that person s

A job such as working in an abortion clinic, you are taking away a life which has a right to live, which is unjust. Another job which gives people grief is a traffic warden. • 46. Aziz In A Passage To India Why talk about the English? Brrrr...! An Outlook on Aziz s Attempts to Bridge the Gap A Passage To India by E. M. Forster is a rich, postcolonial novel delving into the possibility of sustaining a personal friendship between an English person and an Indian person. This topic is being discussed in the beginning of the novel at the home of Hamidullah, ... they were discussing as to whether or no(t) it is possible to be friends with an Englishman. Mahmoud Ali argued that it was not, Hamidullah disagreed, but with so many reservations... (Forster 7) Aziz, who the novel centers around, has the disposition to just shut them out and ignore them and all will be jolly. Of course, later, we find Aziz does not shut them out and rather... I see no point in elaborating on this subject because it is so cut and dry. This relationship did not last and was destined for failure from that prig of an Englishwoman. Mrs. Moore and Aziz s relationship is a bit more tangled than the cut and dry experience with Ms. Quested. Aziz only has three meetings with Mrs. Moore. Both characters have this great fondness for the other with no substance. They have some superficial similarities and Aziz proclaims she s Oriental! It seems like both want an unconventional friendship so acutely they immediately gravitate towards this love that transcends race lines. When Fielding misses the train and Aziz realizes he ll be alone with the two women his feelings from the mosque come rushing back for Mrs. Moore, She was perfect as always, his dear Mrs. Moore. (Forster 145) But there is no real substance to their friendship only feelings and emotions. Fielding accurately describes the real relationship between the two, to Aziz on the roof after the trial, You are so fantastic.... Miss Quested, you won t treat her generously;... Miss Quested anyhow behaved decently this morning, whereas the old lady never did anything for you at all. (Forster 282) Fielding is absolutely correct, Mrs. Moore never actually does anything for Aziz except be a friendly, slightly senile old lady. In fact

Advantages And Disadvantages Of BFSI Management DLT DRIVEN BFSI TECHNOLOGICAL CONVENTIONS INTRODUCTION Globally, the BFSI sector is of immense prominence to the world economy as it generates over a third of global service sector revenues. BFSI is standard industry terminology for Banking, Financial Services Insurance, that spans across companies and banks that provide a wide range of financial products services, other than transaction settlement. Today, banks are being challenged over banking the unbanked, credit disbursement, increasing number of non performing assets, technological hurdles, risk management and contingency planning... etc. Similarly, Insurance and other financial services are facing challenges such as rural market penetration, pricing risks, transaction settlement issues,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chain is a timeline of all transaction blocks as discussed above. This chain itself is a ledger that records in real time all events associated with the block and makes it publicly visible. A new block can be added to the chain only when one of the network nodes (participant) successfully solves a complex mathematical problem that often requires high computing power, and gains the right to add the next block. These complex, algorithm rich computations can also be called as proof of work /stake computations, which make blockchain almost Sybil resistant, and its decentralized nature gives it a high level of Byzantine Fault Tolerance . Complex, algorithm rich proof of work computations also act as the consensus mechanism that ensures a high level of data integrity to the transactions on blockchain and reduces chances of falsified entries. People who use high computational power to solve proof of work computations and add the blocks to the chain are called miners in blockchain; they are also the network nodes. To briefly anatomize blockchain transactions, transactions are initially encrypted and added to an online ledger. It is further sent into the blockchain network where network nodes take them up in a block and solve complex proof of work computations to add the next block onto the
