Critique on Carl Milles work
Carl Milles (Carl Emil Wilhelm Anderson) was born at Orby in Lagga near
Uppsala, Sweden on 23 June 1875 and died at his home in Lidingo, Sweden on 19
September 1955. He was the world famous Swedish sculptor during the first half of
the 20th century. In 1892 1897, he was apprenticed to a cabinetmaker and
woodworker when he left school and attended evening classes at the Technical
School in Stockholm in woodwork and later in carving and modeling. He showed a
talent for sculpture in the evening classes and was awarded a scholarship from the
Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts. He was then offered a job in Santiago, Chile to
help manage a school of Swedish gymnastics. However, he stopped at Paris on the
way to Chile and remained in Paris until 1904 and attended lectures at the Sorbonne
to study art. He was admitted to the salon in 1899 and later worked in the studio of
Auguste Rodin. He slowly got the recognition as a sculptor.

The world has suffered a terrible calamity. Exactly what is never explicitly
explained, but it is implied that apparently two countries with nuclear weapons
finally decided to try them out and see what happened. The world is cold. The sun
is blotted out from the sky. The plants are dying. The sky is gray and the surface of
the Earth is covered by a constantly shifting gray ash. Within this world walks two
human beings and they are a manand his son. This is very basic plotline of Cormac
McCarthys book The Road. McCarthy has garnered a lot of attention lately. His
book No Country for Old Men was turned into a powerful and moving film that
won a lot of shiny statues at last year s Academy Awards. He is known for his very
bleak view of the world, and for describing horrors and atrocities with a frankness
and bluntness that often leaves readers stunned. His novel Blood Meridian is so
relentlessly violent that many have had to put the book down just to give their
minds a rest from the carnage. However, both Blood Meridican and The Road are
being turned into Hollywood productions even now as I write this. McCarthy writes
in short, direct sentences. He never used quotation marks and sometimes the words
spoken by characters are not even separated from paragraphs that just describe the

Everything that happened to Jessica in the past six months had led up to that
moment for her. Once she started running again, she did not want to stop. Sherlock
and I run the whole five mile loop over Aggery Bridge every morning. When I
wake up tired, I remind myself how long I ve waited to be able to run again, and it
gets me up, (Van Draanen 282). Even with all the work that Jessica had gone
through to get to where she was, she still wanted to do more. Her friends Rosa was
fascinated by the thought of crossing the finish line. Since she had been in a
wheelchair her entire life, she never had the chance. Jessica decided that that was
going to change. Even though she had only been running for a month on her
prosthetic, Jessica began training for her town s annual 10 mile race. Jessica
decided that she was going to help Rosa cross her finish line by actually pushing
her across it. Jessica put in so much work to be able to achieve what seemed to be
such a ridiculous goal. She ran everyday pushing around a wheelchair filled potting
soil, lifted weights, and she began eating a protein filled diet to build her muscle.
Jessica was so determined to do this for Rosa, even though she was disabled
herself. The morning of the race was quite exciting, both for Jessica and Rosa. One
minute! the announcer calls. My heart speeds up. I feel suddenly light headed.
And then there s the pop of the starting gun. It s time, (Van Draanen 323). During
the race, it seemed as if Jessica was reminiscing the difficult journey she endured.
She thought back on the last eight months of her life, and realized how she got
through it. One by one by one by one. That s how I got through losing my leg.

The Effects Of Violence On The Media
The effect of violence in the media is a big controversy; some say it affects are
society and others say that there is not any proof of this. There are many theories
on how violence in media does, and how it does not, affect our society. Many
people claim watching television or even playing video games will affect children s
or young adults minds. Researches claim that they found no evidence of change in
aggressiveness in children or young adults while playing video games.
Researchers allowed children that had been diagnosed with disruptive behavior
disorder and to play violent video games and found no change in pattern when or
even after these children played. This study measured activity in the frontal cortex
of the brain by using two groups of five girls and fourteen boys while they made a
task requiring focus. The frontal cortex has been related to problems having to do
with self control and attention. One of the groups was considered aggressive and
also diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorder and the second group had no
history of any behavioral problems. Half of the children in each group had been
opened to high levels of media violence; this included them watching and playing
violent video games and television. The results of the experiment showed that all of
the aggressive children had reduced activity in the frontal cortex of their brains. The
non aggressive group of children that were exposed to high levels of media violence
showed a lower amount of brain
