The Secret of Seinfeld’s Humor Essay
Review: The secret of Seinfeld s Humor: The significance of the Insignificant The Secret of Seinfeld s
Humor: The significance of the Insignificant, an article written by Jorge Gracia briefly outlines what
the author believes to be the origin of the humour with which the popular television show Seinfeld
achieved such broad based success. A show that embraced the ordinary of everyday life, while
atypically avoiding the mainstay of violence and sex of most of today s popular visual media and
culture. Gracia (19??) begins his article by posing the question how, can a show that deals with
ordinary, everyday occurrences have such wide appeal ? This is a very general question that could be
analysed in any number of ways. The author however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also suspect that some of this information may have been contradictory to the authors main
arguments. To his credit however, Gracia does, however offer to distinguish between the sad and the
funny. We laugh, claims the author because we see in it the significance of the insignificant, while we
cry because through it we grasp the insignificance of the significant . Not a new concept states Gracia,
given that we are so often faced with both emotions on a regular basis. This simple statement is the
core of Gracia s argument. By stating this, he is necessarily saying that laughter derives from a new
perspective on ourselves. One that illuminates, idiosyncrasies, customs and peculiarities which are
given minimal attention during day to day activities, but which have great significance. Comedy
draws on these factors to identify the ordinary as extraordinary. Thus Seinfeld lives up to its moniker a
show about nothing . The show necessarily underscores that the commonplace is indeed pertinent, this
is reinforced by the audience being aware of the significance of what is happening while the shows
characters remain in the dark. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Conversley the author argues that sadness
in respect to laughter is the opposite. That is, it originates from the significant, and it is a degree of
insignificance encapsulated within these tragedies that elecits sadness.

C3 Coursework Numerical Methods In this coursework I am going to investigate numerical methods
of solving equations. The methods I will use are: 1. Change of sign method, for which I am going to

Newton Raphson method I will then compare the methods in terms of speed of convergence and ease

I am going to plot a graph to illustrate this. We can see that there is a change of sign between 0.195
and 0.196 and so the estimate of the root is (0.195+0.196) ÷2 which is equal to 0.1955 with a
maximum error of ± 0.0005 Failure of change of sign method I am now going to show an example
where the change of sign method fails to find a root. I have chosen the function of x, f(x) = 45x³ 24x²
28x+16 From the graph above, it can be seen that there is a root in the interval 0 and 1. However,
because it is a repeated root, the change of sign method fails as there is no change of sign either side
of the root . This is a failure of the change of sign method. x = g(x) method Another way of finding a
root is using the x = g(x) method. I have chosen the function of x, f(x) = 2x³+ x² 5x+1, the graph of the
function looks like the following: From the graph, it can be seen that there are roots in the interval [ 2,

The employee ratings are very close to Google. I noticed Wegmans has a Care Program. This program
is recognizing and celebrating employees accomplishments and /or milestones. This type of
environment makes the workplace more like a family atmosphere rather than a work atmosphere.
The Boston Consulting Group rank number three on the list. This company has 12,000 employees.
One of the first thing I noticed this company says that opportunity for growth is unmatched. A
successful business will motivate their employees to grow and develop new skills. Their employee
ratings are also equal to Google and Wegmans. This company focuses on growth and learning.
Happy employees feel a sense of accomplishment in their work. They like themselves and what they
do, and they also find satisfaction from their work. When workers feel that they are a dynamic and
essential part of the team, they are more productive and willing to go the extra mile for their customers
and co workers. When viewing the employee ratings, I also noticed a pattern of great challenges that

Conflict Theory And Symbolic Interaction Theory
Ad by Deals Plugin | Close
The theories that I found related to the movie I chose was conflict theory and symbolic interaction
theory. Conflict theory holds that social order is maintained by domination and power, rather than
consensus and conformity. Conflict theory also ascribes most fundamental developments in human
history, such as democracy and civil rights, to capitalistic attempts to control the masses rather than
desire for social order. Symbolic interaction theory is a theory that human interaction and
communication is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have conventionalize
meanings. Symbolic interaction people attach meanings to symbols, and then they act according to
their subjective interpretation of the symbols. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The girl Montage garden gnome and the boy Capulet garden gnome fall in love. The families then
battle and come to terms that their values are the same. Second, conflict theory relates to the movie
because the movie was based on two different social groups. The different social groups didn t want
any relations with one another. For example, the major conflict of the movies was the relationship that
formed between the Capulet and Montague genomes. The relationship caused a war between the
families. Last, Symbolic interaction theory relates to the movies because the movie used to label to
identify the different social groups. The symbols of the groups were their hats which showed that they
were genomes. The different symbolic interactions between the groups were the color of their hats.
For example, the Capulet s hats were red and the Montague s hats were blue. The Capulet s were
represented as a lower standard social class than the Montages. I liked having this assignment. The
assignment gave me the ability to see the different theories in other perspectives. I also enjoyed having

The Lucifer Effect Zimbardo
Lucifer Effect
The Lucifer effect describes the point in time when an ordinary, normal person first crosses the
boundary between good and evil to engage in an evil action and it explains how the good people do
bad or evil thing. Philip Zimbardo used dis positional , situational and systemic to answer the question
How do psychologists understand such transformations of Human Characteristic? (Philip G.
Zimbardo, 2007)
Dis positional is something inside of the individuals. (Philip G. Zimbardo, 2007) In the movie, after
they posted the advertisement on the newspaper, they asked all the volunteers to take a personality
tests and do a interview for each of them. All they did is in order to pick the most normal and the most
healthy volunteers. Participants were randomly designated to either the role of prisoner or guard. So
we all know that whatever guards or prisoners, they are all good people at the begin of the experiment.

the prison and to command the respect of the prisoners. But at the same time the physical violence was

to stop it or try to avoid it for next time. And after that the guards started to become more aggressive

to guard but didn t oversight it or didn t monitor them well in the movie. It caused the guards could do

Five Themes In Slaughterhouse Five
In the book Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut s purpose of creating and alternative, structure of time and
Tralfamadorian s was to mix descriptions of historic Dresden and his personal wartime experiences.
Vonnegut uses Tralfamadorian fantasy and bits from his earlier fiction to create a meaningful story and
give understand of how Vonnegut felt when he was in war. Vonnegut uses a stream of events to
express the difficult time Billy goes through when trying to fully adapt to the Tralfamadorian s
involvement with the Dresden Bombing. Throughout the story Billy jumps in time. Every individual
moment in time happens at the exact same time as every other moment, so the past, the present, and
the future are illusions. Billy s time jumping is caused by his PTSD that he got from being a part of
the Dresden Bombing. Vonnegut uses Billy s time traveling is his experiencing what all
Tralfamadorian s experience. They see there consequences and repercussions of their actions at the
time they happen. That s the point of Billy s time travel. To show that humans don t see the whole
picture, that we don t know what our consequences will be. The point is if humans didn t see the
whole picture they wouldn t do things like the bombing of Dresden. Vonnegut uses both Billy and
Tralfamadorian s to demonstrate this. Slaughterhouse Five is filled with symbols or motifs that are
recurring throughout the whole story. The motif I see most recurring is so it goes the phrase Billy says
after someone dies in the story, equalizing all of them, whether they are natural, accidental, or
intentional. they are on a massive scale or a personal one. Billy uses this saying to say that this one
bad thing happening by all of these other good moments does not make it something to be sad about
and dwell on. So it goes this phrase is saying that stuff happens in life. People die and life just needs to
keep going on and not be stopped for lives that have stopped that if your life is still going you should
keep going. This phrase shows a comfort in the Tralfamadorian idea that although a person may be
dead in a particular moment, that he or she is alive in all the other moments of their life and can be
visited over and over through time travel. For

Possession contains two love stories: a contemporary one and a Victorian one whose plots are

scholars who trace the correspondence between two Victorian poets. The contemporary love story
between Roland Mitchell and Maud Bailey develops in parallel with and is intermingled with the story

quest for knowledge of the past drives the modern romance. While the Victorian love affair is

They seem to fit the norms. However, in private, their couple is really different. Ellen actually never
managed to have a sexual relationship with her husband. She simply could not bear it, since her, the
sexual act is a brutal experience incompatible with marriage. And against all expectations, her
husband understood her refusal by accepting her love (p.459)[1]. This acceptance of lack of sexual
intimacy is really unusual in the nineteenth century; it was a woman s duty to make love with her
husband even though she was not supposed to enjoy it. Most men probably expected their wives to do
their duty, and would not endure any privation of that kind. Ash seems to live with it and feels
tenderness, friendship, complicity and love for his wife. They remain married, but it should not be
forgotten that at that time any other alternative would have been unacceptable in their society.
Moreover, after his death many years later, Ellen Ash realizes that she had spent all her time and
energy during her married life trying to compensate her husband for the lack of sex. She thinks even
that she became his slave (p.459). Both the male and female characters suffer from their society s
attitude toward sexuality.
On the contrary, Ash s liaison with Christabel is characterised by their mutual satisfaction in love and
in sexuality. Their relationship is not based on

Indentured Servitude In Slavery
Slavery has been around for centuries all over the world, and the history of slavery in the Caribbean is
one of great density. Indentured servants were one of the first forms of labourers on plantations in the
Caribbean before the introduction of African slaves. Plantation owners eventually saw these servants
as too much of a complication, thus putting an end to white indentured servants in the Caribbean.
Following the use of white indentured servants as labourers in the Caribbean, a heavy reliance was
placed on the use of African slaves. The sugar revolution was the beginning of a new era in slavery,
and the introduction of the super exploitation of African slaves, an exploitation that was not exhibited
towards white indentured servants.

Analysing the Generation Effect Essay
Noteworthy findings indicated that the participants recognized more items from the generate condition
than read condition. A notable large effect between the two conditions was detected as well. Slamecka

claims. Under the same category, items involve providing a stimulus and response in the generate
condition confirms improve memory in the later recognition test versus items in the read condition.
Perhaps how the items encode and retrieve from the memory can be interpreted as well. An alternative
explanation argued that levels of processing took place during the generate condition where the second

Moreover, the generation effect serves the similar purpose as testing effect in educational settings.
Roediger and Karpicke (2006) claimed that the testing is a beneficial method in long term retention of
the materials, comparing to no testing at all. Likewise, the generate condition in this experiment works
an equivalent pattern as a multiple choice tests where some kind of recognition takes place in learning
and memory (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). Briefly, the generation effect assists people to retain better
memory and thus improve learning across different circumstances. More importantly, the testing
phenomenon serves an educational purpose for students at school, regardless of short answer
questions, multiple choice questions, or essay questions where no feedback is necessary (Roediger
Karpicke, 2006). However, repetitive studying will not guarantee better retention rate in terms of
delay testing, and retesting will have a greater impact (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). In practical
applications, using flashcards with only key words written and creating tests without multiple choice
questions are some of the examples of putting generation effect in use. Based on current researches,
repetitive testing produces a powerful effect especially in delayed tests. Yet, the research on the
boundary of how long the delay of the tests require before the materials diminish are still unknown.

Sextus Empiricus
Being called a skeptic is sometimes understood and mistaken for being the wrong way of thinking.
This way of thinking is difficult to grasp especially for someone who does not know what scepticism
really means. In the article Sextus Empiricus, scepticism is defined as an ability, or mental attitude
which opposes appearances to judgements in any way whatsoever with the result of mental suspense
and state of quietude. In other words, scepticism is having doubts about an opinion that seems not to
be true. Being sceptic doesn t necessarily mean that you question everything but instead seek to find
enough reason to make an opinion true. This article begins to discuss how a Pyrrhonian, sceptic tries
to reach a state of tranquility and quietude. However quietude cannot be achieved if a suspension of
judgment exists. It is said that suspicion come from our differences of our senses. To illustrate, an
apple seems smooth, sweet and yellow. Nevertheless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

belief is that as human beings our body helps our mind function and produce thoughts just the same as

existence. On the other hand, Sceptics believe that the true form of an object for instance can come
from perception. In the article, there is the example that states a theory that exists will already have an
opposed theory existing as well. (Empiricus, 38) Nevertheless, a thought believed to be true can also

More recently, the food trend has turned into pre heated or pre cooked meals to take away (Schlosser,
2001).
In recent years, the fast food industry has been facing significant challenges due to the increase in the
consumer awareness on the production process and health concerns. The consumer awareness on
health factors and the marketers detecting the possibility of change in the consumer taste have led the
firms to expand their product lines in drinks more healthy foods (Schlosser, 2001). In other words, the
industry is fighting saturation by creating a much more diverse variety of offerings.
2 What are Organic Foods?
The changes in the consumer taste and the increase in the consumer awareness in eating healthy
products and organic foods have increased immensely in the past few years throughout the whole
world as well as the UK (BBC, 2001).
To have a healthy life, eating organic and healthy is a great way to start. The confusion among the
consumers is due to lack of information towards nutrition and individually the amount and what the
body needs. It is not only going to a shop and purchasing fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc. but
being aware of how these goods are grown raised and how they would influence the individual s
health and the environment.
The expression organic denotes the way agricultural products are grown and processed (Fromartz,
2006). Certain requirements should be met in order for a product to get the label organic such as

Obstacles In Thomas Jefferson s First Barbary War
Thomas Jefferson encountered many obstacles during his presidency, in which one of the issues was
the First Barbary War, in which the United States and Sweden fought against the Barbary States. One
of Jefferson s first actions as president was to reduce military establishments, in hope of transcending
wars and peaceful era. The First Barbary War or Tripolitanian War lasted from 1801 to 1805 in the
United States. The reason for waging the war was that pirates of the North Barbary States were
intercepting American merchant ships and retaining the sailors for ransom, demanding the U.S. to pay
tribute to the Barbary rulers. Jefferson declined to pay the price and ordered the American Navy to
attack the Barbary Pirates. Even though Congress never

Why Elephants Should Be Banned
A small herd of elephants spends the afternoon grazing on the wind swept grass of the savannah in the
sweltering African sun. A few young calves playfully bounce around their mother s legs. This peaceful
vision is just a time of quiet before a bloody scene unfolds. What this small herd is blissfully unaware
of is that poachers are quietly stalking them with murderous intent. This herd of elephants has a
plethora of white gold . These poachers are after only one thing from the elephants, they are after their
tusk made of ivory. By the end of the day the herd will practically be obliterated with only a small
number of lucky survivors. Unfortunately, poaching elephants is not an atypical event throughout man

The US provided aid to those countries who stood to lose the most from the ban. Countries like
Botswana, Kenya, and Namibia had successfully managed the elephant populations within their
boundaries.
On a few occasions the ban has been lifted in order to allow countries to sell, for profit, the large
stocks of ivory tusks that have been accumulated from elephants who either died from natural causes,
poaching, or had to be destroyed. CITES has voted to lift the ban twice. Once in 1999 which resulted
in a one time sale of 60 tons of ivory and another lift was authorized in 2002 ( CITES revises ivory
trade policy. and Randerson, James 2). The administration of President William J. Clinton supported
the lifting the ban to allow the countries to sell remaining stocks of ivory as long as there was an
agreement to use a portion of the proceeds to fund conservation and preservation programs (Clinton
Statement on Proposals To Reopen Trade in Elephant Ivory and Whale Products. ).
There are 37 countries or range states through out sub Saharan Africa in which elephants are found

American flag represents this so called notion of equality and patriotism, even though it was used
alongside with the pledge of allegiance to capitalize on the people s love of the country. The current
controversy is that protest at NFL games is not only disrespectful to the country, but is also a
disrespect to our armed forces who fought for our constitutional rights, this paper is simply an

The Main Features Of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Describe the main features of autism spectrum disorder. Evaluate the evidence supporting a biological
basis for autism. Autism is a developmental disorder which usually occurs during infancy (Hyman,
2002:217). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term used to refer to many disorders
which display symptoms of an autistic style. The spectrum covers all types of symptoms ranging from
mild to severe (Hollander, 2003:102). Individuals in the spectrum can range from having severe
learning disabilities to being mildly impaired (Nimh.nih.gov, 2014). The linguistic skills can also vary
from being mute to having the ability to communicate complex sentences (ibid). The different profiles
of the sufferers are diverse (Hyman, 2002:217). However, there are three main areas of which they
may have difficulties. These are social reciprocity, an inability to communicate effectively and unusual
repetitive or restricted behaviour (Davey, 2014:586) this is known as the triad of impairments (Dodd,
2005:2). This essay will explain the triad of impairments related to ASD to describe the main features
of the disorder. In addition, it will evaluate the biological evidence by investigating the research for
genetic factors and brain abnormalities, both of which support a biological basis for ASD (Davey,
2014:588). The first main area that describes the features of ASD is impairments of reciprocal social
interaction (Davey, 2014:585). This is one of the most dominant features of ASD.

Descartes Mind Over Matter

Mind over Matter
In his meditations Descartes supposed there was two fundamentally different sorts of substances in the
universe, physical stuff, which bodies and chairs etc. are made up of; which is extended in space,
hence he called it res extensa, but there s also mind stuff which isn t in space at all thinking stuff or,
res cogitans. Bodies are made of res extensa and minds are made of res cogitans and the two are
separate. To understand why he thought this we must go back to his mission statement, which was to
doubt everything he could in order to find something indubitable which he thought would be certain
knowledge. Descartes found that he could doubt everything except that he was thinking since doubt
was a kind of thinking, and since thinking requires a thinker he knew that he must exist hence the
famous I think therefore I am syllogism known as the cogito. Descartes goes on to say that he can
doubt the existence of his body and all other physical things but he cannot doubt his mind exists
because of the cogito.
Descartes flaw is his liberal use of Leibniz s law, the identity of indiscernibles. The ontological
principle states that there cannot be separate objects or entities that have all of their properties in
common. That is to say, if you have two things and they have all the same properties, including their
position in space, you don t really have two things because they are identical; by the same token if two

Short wedding dresses are also becoming very popular for brides that want to have two different

How To Replace A Roof
Addressing roof problems
Tips on how to determine whether it is best to repair damage or replace entire roof
When it comes to doing home improvements, homeowners have to make good decisions in order to
meet with success without injuring themselves or messing up their homes. This is especially true for a
job that involves doing something to the roof. Whether the job is repairing damaged areas or installing
a new roof, hiring an Austin roofing professional is one of the best decisions that homeowners can
make, and that is because such a professional will have the necessary skills to complete all the work
safely and efficiently. Furthermore, homeowners will have less pressure on their shoulders and more
time to devote to other important matters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only downside is that the new shingles may not match the ones already on the roof, but that
matters little if the goal is to shore up the roof so that it will last for years to come. If homeowners are
looking to put their homes on the market, then perhaps the best course of action is to have a
professional contractor order the right type of shingles for the patch job. Potential buyers tend to zero
in on the condition of homes, looking for anything that is out of place.
If the damage happens to be so extensive that a patch job would not be enough, then homeowners
ought to let a professional contractor install a new roof. This option, depending on the size of the
home, will be rather costly, but it goes without saying that putting in a new roof will prove worthwhile

Three Developmental Issues In Everyday Life
1. Discuss three developmental issues that effect our every day lives? ADHD which is a attention
defecit/hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders, characterized by
problems with inattentiveness, over activity, impulsivity, or a combination. For these problems to be
diagnosed as AD/HD, they must be out of the normal range for the child s age and development. It is
usually first diagnosed in childhood and often persists into adulthood. Diagnosis can be made reliably
using well tested diagnostic interview methods. Treatment may include medical, educational,
behavioral, and/or psychological interventions. ADHD is a lifelong disorder that can negatively impair
many aspects of daily life if not treated, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcohol Drinking can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, including symptoms like behavior abnormalities,
low birth weight, and medical problems. If you re pregnant or think you may be pregnant you should
not be consuming alcohol at all. 2. Smoking Smoking is not only bad for you, but bad for your baby as
well. Smoking during pregnancy reduces the amount of oxygen that the baby receives and increases
the risk of miscarriage, bleeding, and morning sickness. Chemicals inhaled while smoking may lead to
other health problems with the baby. Reduced birth weight, premature birth, increased risk of SIDS,
and stillbirth are other possible consequences. Pregnant women should also avoid second hand smoke.
3. Caffeine There are many conflicting studies about caffeine and pregnancy and some believe that
caffeine is not as harmful as it was once thought to be. The FDA warns against caffeine consumption
during pregnancy because it has been shown to affect fetal heart rates and awake time which is when
fetuses grow when sleeping. The FDA suggests quitting or reducing consumption at the very least.
Caffeine can also increase risk of stretch marks. If you heavily consume caffeine on a daily its best to
slowly ween yourself down to less and less of it every day so you don t cause yourself

for many years. However; Xanax has also lead to thousands of deaths. Xanax is a member of the
Benzodiazepine family. Xanax (Alprazolam) is a drug that is prescribed for anxiety to 48 million

can have tremendous effects on one s body and mind. If someone s bottle is refilled late and they don t

doses. 48 million people are prescribed this drug. The chances are high that one may know someone
who is willing to give or sell their prescription to them. Xanax and others can be obtained through
doctors and even more commonly, presses. Alprazolam and Klonopins can be crushed up with other
drugs for the average street user. These presses cannot be prescribed from a doctor. Normally dosed at
higher levels, they can be very dangerous sometimes lethal, drugs. [Does not agree that it should be

Joyas Voladoras Essay
Brian Doyle s Joyas Voladoras first appeared in The American Scholar in 2004 and was later selected
for Best American Essays in 2005. Doyle s intended audience is the general population, though his
writing style attracts both the logical reader and the hopeless romantics who seek metaphors pointing
to love in any way. The beginning of the essay provides insight to general information about the
hummingbird, which holds the smallest, capable, and fragile heart in the world. He then explains the
significance of the blue whale s heart with comparisons, indicating that the blue whale holds a heart

support, as well as emotional triggers to provide a semblance of deep understanding between the
rhetorician and the audience.
His writing style is poetic, fluctuating between short and concise to long, organic, and flowing
sentence structures. For example, he utilizes short, concise sentence structures to imitate the quick
fluttering of the hummingbird s flying patterns: Consider the hummingbird for a long moment. A
hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser. A
hummingbird s heart is a lot of the hummingbird (273) . In contrast to the short, concise sentences, he
uses the opposite effect when describing the heart of the blue whale. Instead, he uses long sentences
and traditional words that are separated by commas to force his readers to read slowly and
deliberately: . . . for next to nothing is known of the mating habits, travel patterns, diet, social life,
language, social structure, diseases, spirituality, wars, stories, despairs, and arts of the blue whale
(274). He also uses other methods to evoke feeling from his readers.

Tourism and Malaysia
The Impact Of Tourism In Malaysian Society Tourism Essay
Malaysia has invested in a wide range of tourism destinations for tourists. This country is blessed with
diverse cultures, traditions and histories, coupled with different landscapes and natural resources; the
country has built a strong and fascinating appeal for both local and international tourists. Tourism
sector, therefore, is of great importance to Malaysia s economy as one of the major foreign exchange
revenue or earnings second to the manufacturing industry.

The tourism sector being a strong contributor is just not a new finding as its contribution has received
widespread recognition in the country. (The tourism destination conference for 2010) reveals that the
tourism receipt for 2009 was at RM 53.367.7 million, with 23.65 million tourist arrivals, making this
industry the second largest income earner for the country in the same year and though these figures are
laudable, it is said that the local tourism sector has not been exploited to its potential (Y.B. Dato Sri
Mohd Najib, 3rd March 2010). In 2009, Malaysia made it into top 10 most visited countries in the
world, and was confidently placed in the 9th position below turkey and Germany. This remark shows
that Malaysia s tourism sector has pulled international recognition and has gained force of attraction
that draws the attention of tourists all around the continents of the world to choose Malaysia as their
tourism destination.
Social impact of the tourism industry
The social impact of tourism in Malaysia is indelible and will sustain a world record in the nearest
future. In a country with a diverse nationality, diverse race, culture and religion, it has proven to me
that understanding, tolerance and acceptance are part of the key values that is keeping Malaysia at the
top among the top tourist destination countries in the world today. The masterminds behind the

Compare And Contrast Plato And The Matrix
Plato and The Matrix Compare and Contrast
In comparing the movie The Matrix to Plato s The Allegory of the Cave, both have a theme of trying
to find the truth. In the Matrix, Neo is confronted with a difficult choice. Either he can choose the blue
pill and forget that Morpheus ever confronted him with such news of the Matrix or he can take the red
pill and find out the truth, which is that he has been living in a simulated fantasy world. The Allegory
of the Cave is similar in that Plato attempts to explain reality. There are some epistemology questions
that occur in both situations such as, what is truth, how do we find it, and how reliable are our
perceptions? The people that are prisoners in the cave cannot see the world beyond the cave except for
glimmers of light reflecting off the wall and therefore believe that the cave is the real world when in
fact if they could escape to the outer world they would realize that outside the cave, in the light, is
actually the real world. Another example of comparison is Plato s two world belief, a world of being
and a world of becoming.
The contrasts between the Matrix and the excerpt from Plato are that in the Matrix, the perceived
reality that Neo is experiencing is a better description of what the reality outside the Matrix actually is.
Outside the Matrix, Neo discovers a very dark, chaotic, and weird place. Whereas, the cave depicted
in Plato s story is a scary and dark place and his place of ultimate reality is in the light

Communism was threatening to Americans post World War II...
Communism was threatening to Americans post World War II because its foundation contradicted the
ideology of democracy and capitalism that perpetuated the Western world for so long. Whether it was
foreign policy, democracy in action, or the red scare that happened right here at home, anti
communism sentiment was permeated almost all aspects of American life from the war s end to nearly
the end of the century.
The Communist threat started twenty years before World War II when Stalin took control over Russia
so rapidly with an ideology that was built upon coercion and control. Eventually the USSR would
grow into a powerful nation that was deemed a threat to the balance of world power. With the outbreak
of war in Europe, a temporary alliance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be one of the earliest instances where any liberal sentiment towards communism would
not be tolerated and it would not end there. When Truman advocated aiding Greece during their civil
war, he made sure to underline the main reasons were to ensure democracy not communism would be
the only acceptable way of living and since There is no other country to which democratic Greece can
turn , America had to save the day. As the years went on, developments in Korea and China went in a
way that was not planned. Stalin however saw everything coming together and believed America was
losing ground. They are trying to offset these difficulties with the Marshall plan, the war in Korea,
frantic rearmament, and industrial militarization. But that is very much like a drowning man clutching
at a straw (Stalin). While statements like this gave the USSR a boost, it gave America a sense that
their national security was faltering and in turn any domestic reassurance was in limited supply.
The Red Scare dominated America beginning in 1947 with the Iron Curtain, Berlin Blockade, and
many others. In all these instances, people feared about national security both with the situation
abroad and right at home as well. When the Soviets successfully detonated an atomic bomb, it
coincided with China becoming another Communist threat and widespread hysteria in America.

University College Critical Thinking in Action: A Case Study on Determining Responsibility in a
Work Related Accident When working in a career where the employee s safety is at risk, being
informed of one s rights can prevent accusations that may determine one responsible for their own
injury. Sometimes the line of responsibility is very delicate and difficult to determine. One particular
case is a clear example of how the knowledge of rights, would have cleared up any misunderstandings
regarding responsibility. Some background into the case includes a worker who blames his injury on
the negligence of his employer to replace faulty equipment. The employer, on the other hand has
accounts of horseplay on the employee s part. To say the least, it should be illegal to accuse an injured
employee of being the party responsible in a workplace injury. Explanation of the Issue Company

The resistance of the Holocaust has claimed worldwide fame at a certain point in history, but the
evidence that the evil doers themselves left crush everything that verifies the fantasy of the Holocaust.
For an example, in Poland, the total Jewish population of over thirty three hundred thousand suddenly
plummeted to three hundred thousand. Ten percent of the population survived the Holocaust in
Poland. Almost every country that the Nazis have conquered has the same percent of survival as
Poland. In Elie Wiesel Wiesel s memoir Night, the activities in the concentration camps, the suffering
of Jews, and the disbelief of the inhumane actions of the Nazis result in making people resist the truth.

Roy Williams Cheating
Cheating, you may do it, you probably have done it somewhere in your life, but what about the
penalties you may suffer for being caught? People cheat in many things: school, sports, and, but not
limited to, relationships. But there is many ways to cheat in those multiple examples, like in sports
you can cheat with: drugs, academic eligibility, or even through recruiting. The topic of this paper is
college basketball and cheating. What makes college basketball coaches break the rules, is it worth the
penalty you might ultimately face?
Roy Williams has had an unproven history of not obeying the academic rules, but he was actually
caught in 2004. One of his players, Rashad McCants, recently came out and said Roy did cheat.
Rashad McCants, a North Carolina basketball player from 2002 2005 was one of the leading scores on
the 2005 National Champion UNC team, who said he participated in Roy Williams academic scandal.
He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and then ended up being unsigned in the league by
the year 2009, admitted to taking bogus classes designed to help athletes stay academically eligible
(Delsohn). Rashad McCants is the only person who came out against Roy Williams in the academic
scandal. The classes Rashad McCants referred to recently were exposed in his interview with Steve
Delsohn, a writer for ESPN. The class was a paper class, that did not require you to show up to class
at all, but rather to turn in a term paper at the end of the semester to receive

Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Volcanoes are a big mound that erupts and spews out lava, when it erupts the lava flows down the side
of the volcano and when it cools down it turns to rock. As it erupts rocks fly out and can cause a huge
amount of damage and quite often kill people. When volcanoes erupt they create a large ash cloud.
There are three main types of volcanoes, these are Cinder Cone, Shield and Composite volcanoes.
Cinder Cone
Cinder Cone Volcanoes are small, hill sized volcanoes that range in height from tens to hundreds of
meters. Cinder cones are the simplest and most common type of volcano. Cinder cones can grow
quickly, but they don t become giants. They can build up over short periods of a few months to a few
years. A cinder cone is also called a scoria cone. When lava that is highly charged with gas bubbles

The Role Of Education In The Developing World
Education in the Developing World
Is education a basic human right? According to Article 26 of the United Nation s Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, yes. It states that everyone should have access to free primary education
and equal opportunity access to higher education. Unfortunately, in many places around the world,
access is limited either monetarily or governmentally, and even when it is available, a lack of
resources or a lack of proper educators can severely limit the quality of the education. As many as 115
million primary age children around the world are not currently in school, and of those who are in
school, over 226 million never attend secondary school. In some parts of Africa the literacy rate in
children is below fifty percent. Let s take a look at one developing country in particular, South Africa,
which is considered to have one of the worst education systems on the planet.
South Africa s education system is broken into three parts: elementary schooling, secondary schooling,
and tertiary schooling. According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development,
only about seven percent of South Africans achieve tertiary schooling. As of 2013, South Africa
houses 25,720 schools for almost 12.5 million people. That s nearly one in four people in some form

When these children are brought into the normal classroom, the strategy that many schools take on is
usually called a quot;collaborative teaching quot; approach. This is where special and regular
education teachers team up together to collaborate ideas and instruct students with disabilities in
general education classrooms (Martson, 1996). Studies have shown that not only do the learning
disabled students gain the potential to reach a higher academic standing when mainstreamed (Logan
amp; Malone, 1998), but they also are able to develop positive self images and improve social
development when included in the classrooms of normal children (Klinger, Vaughn, Schumm, Cohen,
amp; Forgan, 1998; Martson, 1996; Shinn et al., 1997). The increase in ability for learning disabled
students to recognize and identify words is one of the examples of an academic gain when included in
the normal classes (McCormick amp; Becker, 1996). When learning disabled students are
incorporated in the normal classroom, self esteem and feelings of self worth are believed to develop
more because these students are less likely to be identified as quot;slow quot; by their peers or to feel
stigmatized (Klinger et al., 1998). By being in the normal classroom, these students are also able to
have more time to develop and keep friendships that are created with the normal class children
(Klinger et al., 1998). Also, advocates of

Compare And Contrast Versions Of Little Red Riding Hood
Little Red Riding Hood is a European fairy tale about a young girl and the big bad wolf with origins
that can be traced back to the 17th century. There have been many different interpretations written of
the story. Little Red Riding Hood by Charles Perrault and Little Red Cap by Brothers Grimm are just
two of the many contrasting renditions. The two tales are similar, but they are also different. The
variations of the story translate the same lesson to be learned at the end. Amongst various versions of
the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale authored by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, the
interaction that the little girl has with the wolf symbolizes the expressional meaning to not judge a
book by its cover.
The little girl is the main character in each of the stories. She is recognized as the prettiest, most
lovable girl in the village. She is known as Little Red Riding Hood in Perrault s version. On the other
hand, she is referred to as Little Red Cap in Grimm s version. She acquired her name because of
always wearing her little red hood/cap all the time. The person who loved and adored her most of all
was her grandmother.
Grandmother lived deep in the woods in another village in both stories. Grandmother made a little red
hood for Little Red Riding Hood in Perrault s version. On the other hand, she made a little cap of red
velvet for Little Red Cap in Grimm s rendition. Grandmother is ill at home in bed in both stories.
In both tales, the little girl lived

We can therefore conclude that the bargaining power of suppliers and bargaining power of buyers are
relatively high in all the 3 countries. Koyo goods are all being manufactured in China now; giving the
suppliers the upper hand. Apart from well established brands, new entrants are also possible
with/without substitute such Cargos and Jeans, therefore increasing the competition for Koyo. ii.
PESTEL of Koyo Jeans (Currents Markets)
From analyzing the 3 current markets of Koyo (Appendix B), we can conclude that Koyo has been
focusing on the Asian market, more specifically Asia Pacific. We have to consider the fact that Koyo
is a fairly new player and therefore has not taken many farfetched risks. Even though it has a market
in France; if we look deeper we can see that it has only one store there. iii. Internal Factors
With the help of the Value Chain (Appendix D), we are able to conclude that Cheung was able to add
value to the company in 3 key regions which in turn increased the profit margin. Quality textile was
sourced from Taiwan at very competitive prices. The operations were streamlined and bettered over
time. Lastly, his careful selection of franchises helped him maintain control of the business and there

Child Abuse And Neglect
When you re a kid you should still have so much hope because you have not seen the tragedies in the
world. Imagine just for a second that before you were even five, you had to take care of yourself. As a
toddler you felt unloved and neglected. Each year 5.5 million children experience this feeling, not just
for a second, but throughout their childhood. Neglect is child abuse, as well as physical abuse, sexual
abuse, and emotional abuse. Child abuse is awful because it causes the child to feel worthless, to lose
trust, and to have serious psychological problems early on in life. Neglect is the most common form of
child abuse. The parent or caregiver fails to provide basic needs for the child. Neglected children are

Sexually abused kids are plagued by feelings of shame and guilt. The child usually feels responsible
which makes it particularly hard for them to come forward. Sexual abuse can lead to self hate and
feelings of worthlessness. This can lead to troubles with future relationships, especially intimate ones.
They easily pull away from touch and are very self conscious. Self hate can lead to a lot of different
psychological problems. Sexual abuse can also lead to PTSD, panic attacks, and even eating disorders.
More than ten percent of adults reported being emotionally abused as a child. They are constantly told
they are no good, worthless, and a mistake. They start to believe it and it hurts them a lot mentally.
Yelling at the child is not an uncommon occurrence. The child gets an earful of all the reasons they are
worthless. They don t know who won t hurt them or who will. The kids don t know if they can trust
anyone to be a positive influence in their life. Emotional abuse can lead to depression and self hate.
Like all abuse, it destroys people mentally. Some kids have already lost hope because of abuse. They
have seen bad in the world, usually coming from someone who is supposed to be one of the most
supportive and loving
Schichtel 3 people in their lives. When talking to an abused child remain calm and avoid denial. Make

My Cultural Analysis Of The League
For my cultural analysis essay I decided to base it off of a popular television series and one of my
personal favorites called The League . The League was created by Jeff and Jackie Shaffer a couple
who are both producers and television writers. The show is about a group of friends who come
together every year for football season and they create a fantasy football league that includes all of
them in it. All throughout football season, fantasy football is something that is taken very serious to
them and the main goal of it is to try to win the leagues trophy and avoid the loser trophy. Winning the
championship trophy allows you to have all the bragging rights within the whole league which
something that is very important to them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a show for both genders ranging from the ages I would suggest 18 or older as some of the jokes
used may be for an older audience. The show is based in the city of Chicago with a group of friends
who all grew up together and went to the same schools. Each character is now in there late 20s
through early 30 playing the role of early careers and new parenthood. Every character shares a
different relationship with one another but they are all very close. The main characters of the show and
the 6 friends in the fantasy football league together are Pete, Kevin, Rodney, Andre, Taco Jenny. All
throughout the show you get to know everyones personality, they all play different roles within the
show but all piece together perfectly. Just like every show, The League has various messages; whether
its on purpose or on accidental they re there without a doubt. From modern stereotypes to sexism and
more throughout the characters and situations, it has its wide share of problems. The NFL and
American Football has always been known as a mans sports for years, a lot of women have a problem
with that saying. With The League being all about football, some of those cultural values have been
put all throughout show intentionally and unintentionally which isn t fair to everyone. Through every

The Inequality Of Latin America
In the 1500s, Spanish and Portuguese colonizers imposed their language, their religion, and their
social institutions on the indigenous Americans and enslaved Africans, people who labored for them in
mines and fields and who served them, too, at table and in bed (Chasteen 5). Many people would say
this is where inequality in Latin America began, with colonization. However, colonization is just a
small piece of the roots of inequality of the region, which actually started with the natives of the lands
such as the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. These three empires ruled most of the Latin American region
and did so by conquering other native groups or tribes. The Empires had a ruling class or king that
was able to oppress and work his people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peninsulars received the land and the control over the government?, which caused issues with the next
class, the Creoles. Creoles were people of Spanish decent born in Latin America. Despite the slight
distinction between the two, they did not receive the same land and power as the Peninsulars because
of their birthplace, which caused resentment and later sparked revolution. Next were the Mestizos,
who were of European and indigenous American decent. The more the different ethnicities mixed, the
more class distinctions were created. Because they introduced foreign diseases, the Europeans and
Africans eventually replaced the indigenous Americans and brought about the potential for rich
diversity. Social class typically ranged from the most European being the best off to the most
indigenous or African being the poorest. The original sin of Latin American history the festering social
injustice at the core had done its durable damage (Chasteen 42). In addition, the social and political
systems created by the Peninsulars were intended to serve their home country, only making matters
worse.
Once Spanish and Portuguese established rule in the New World, they began to economically take
advantage of the indigenous people and the new resources. The Spanish Crown implemented a tax
called the royal fifth to get money from the mining in Latin America, and to collect the tax they had to

In the article, Perceptions of Burnout, Its Prevention and Its Effect on Patient Care as Described by
Oncology Nurses in the Hospital Setting, Russell, (2016) gives a quantitative approach on the
thoughts of burnout nurses in clinical oncology registered nurses. Nurses that work oncology normally
do not take care of themselves due to the extensive care they give to their patients therefore run a high
risk of burnout that may lead to compassion fatigue, resentment and displeasure of their job. In burnt
out nurses, what is the perception on stress and compassion fatigue compared with decreased ability
for patient care?

three categories of: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishments. The
investagator develpoed inpatient Oncology Nursing Questionnaire (IONQ) focused on the nurses
demographic information. It was also an interview that was able to collect additional variables and
information such as: how long the nurse worked at the hospital, status, shift they were on and if
whether overtime was a factor. Results of study When nurses realized that it was the care they were
given that could be causing or be part of the reason for burnout and compassion fatigue, they listened
for options. The findings indicated ways to prevent and decrease burnout and have alternate ways not
to reach the burnout nurse. Ways to prevent burnout that were discussed were: education, adequate

Grand Narrative Analysis
One source of support for the legitimacy of science follows from the so called grand narrative which
presents a view of science as an objective, autonomous, self regulating and self correcting process.
Jerry Francis identifies three (3) underpinnings to the legitimacy of science but then notes that
scientific misconduct does occur. Based upon these three (3) mechanisms, briefly explain how or
where the grand narrative is likely to be at least partially naïve or idealistic.
Francis (1989) identifies three structures that underpin the legitimacy of the scientific grand narrative .
However, the dichotomy between the scientist s personal goals, and collective scientific goals means
that these structures are fundamentally flawed. There are three specific instances in which the
ideology of the grand narrative is flawed by human nature.
Firstly, rewards are not just internal. The grand narrative exists in a universe where everyone doing
research is solely motivated to produce research without any pressure from anything outside of their
desire to produce high quality research. However, this is idealistic. The reality is that researchers have
multiple sources of pressure to conduct and publish beyond their desire to do so. This shifts the
dynamics of grand narrative and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Assessment of United States Performance in the Vietnam War
The quote is saying that the USA should have won the Vietnam War because they had better weapons
and better trained soldiers than the Vietcong. This can be split into 2 parts: America should have won
and, America had better weapons and training than the Vietcong . I agree with the first part because
America should have won the Vietnam War as they are very powerful. I disagree with the second part
because the Vietcong ha supplies from Russia and China which were good weapons and they were
extremely well trained, but in guerrilla warfare. It does NOT mean they were less advanced.

America did have better technology which you would have expected them to use toothier advantage
more than they did. Where the American s had helicopters, the Vietcong had bikes. The American s
had bombs which they used in Operation Rolling Thunder. They had a large quantity of them too as
they dropped more bombs than were dropped in the whole of World War II. They had chemicals such
as Agent Orange and Napalm which was special. Regular Napalm just sets fire to things which can be
put out with water or by taking the oxygen away. The American s developed it so that it could burn
without oxygen which created devastating effects. People rolled on the ground but it continued to burn
through their body and it still burnt people when they jumped in water.
I do disagree that the American s were better trained. They were better trained in conventional warfare
and had a lot of experience from World War II. But the Vietcong matched this. They were better
trained than the American s but not in conventional warfare. They were experts in guerrilla warfare
which proved vital in their defeat on the USA. They also had a lot experience as they were at war with
the French for a long time.
The American s also had more problems which prevented them from winning the war. In my opinion,
this was probably the main reason America lost the war. American support diminished rapidly as this

Individualism In Frankenstein
fact that the monster is superior and be with him. This idea leads into the fact that the women in the
novel are supposed to be indebted to the men. This is demonstrated by Justine s confession to the
murder of William, which she did not commit. The Frankensteins adopted Justine, which kept her
from starving on the streets. Based upon her adoption, Justine felt an indebtedness to the family,
specifically the men (they provide for the family), and this debt drove her to confess to murder. Her
adoption caused the men to have to provide for another person, and in order to lessen the debt, she
took away the misfortune of William s death by confessing, allowing the family to mourn and
continue living (Shelley 83). Had she not confessed, Justine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First of all, Sabina hates and refuses to participate in parades. When the time came to sing, she never
knew the words of the songs and would merely open and close her mouth. But the other girls would
notice and report her. From her youth on, she hated parades (Kundera 50). Parades, in the eyes of
Sabina, represent kitsch, and she refuses to participate. Also, Sabina makes an effort to be an
individual through her paintings. She rebelled against the artistic rules at the Academy of Fine Arts,
and disagreed with everything she was taught there; she used her paintings to do something that
differed from normal art at the time (Kundera 132). Additionally, Sabina finds passion in her life
through having multiple lovers, opposite of Tereza s lack of excitement or passion. Further, Sabina
does not deny literal or metaphorical shit; While she was looking at herself in the mirror, excited by
her self denigration, she had a fantasy of Tomas seating her on the toilet in her bowler hat and
watching her void her bowels (Kundera 130). Unlike the usual kitsch, Sabina does not deny shit, and
even fantasizes about it with Tomas; she is unafraid by its existence. Finally, Sabina rebels against
kitsch by not subscribing to an aesthetic ideal. She revolts against the idealistic image that Franz
believes she is by leaving him; she does not identify with, nor would she become his aesthetic ideal
(Kundera 62). She also

  • 2. The Secret of Seinfeld’s Humor Essay Review: The secret of Seinfeld s Humor: The significance of the Insignificant The Secret of Seinfeld s Humor: The significance of the Insignificant, an article written by Jorge Gracia briefly outlines what the author believes to be the origin of the humour with which the popular television show Seinfeld achieved such broad based success. A show that embraced the ordinary of everyday life, while atypically avoiding the mainstay of violence and sex of most of today s popular visual media and culture. Gracia (19??) begins his article by posing the question how, can a show that deals with ordinary, everyday occurrences have such wide appeal ? This is a very general question that could be analysed in any number of ways. The author however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also suspect that some of this information may have been contradictory to the authors main arguments. To his credit however, Gracia does, however offer to distinguish between the sad and the funny. We laugh, claims the author because we see in it the significance of the insignificant, while we cry because through it we grasp the insignificance of the significant . Not a new concept states Gracia, given that we are so often faced with both emotions on a regular basis. This simple statement is the core of Gracia s argument. By stating this, he is necessarily saying that laughter derives from a new perspective on ourselves. One that illuminates, idiosyncrasies, customs and peculiarities which are given minimal attention during day to day activities, but which have great significance. Comedy draws on these factors to identify the ordinary as extraordinary. Thus Seinfeld lives up to its moniker a show about nothing . The show necessarily underscores that the commonplace is indeed pertinent, this is reinforced by the audience being aware of the significance of what is happening while the shows characters remain in the dark. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Conversley the author argues that sadness in respect to laughter is the opposite. That is, it originates from the significant, and it is a degree of insignificance encapsulated within these tragedies that elecits sadness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Change of sign method, for which I am going to use decimal search 2. Fixed point iteration using x = g(x) method 3. Fixed point iteration using Newton Raphson method I will then compare the methods in terms of speed of convergence and ease of use with hardware/software Contents |Change of sign | |Decimal search |3 | |Failure of change of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am going to plot a graph to illustrate this. We can see that there is a change of sign between 0.195 and 0.196 and so the estimate of the root is (0.195+0.196) ÷2 which is equal to 0.1955 with a maximum error of ± 0.0005 Failure of change of sign method I am now going to show an example where the change of sign method fails to find a root. I have chosen the function of x, f(x) = 45x³ 24x² 28x+16 From the graph above, it can be seen that there is a root in the interval 0 and 1. However, because it is a repeated root, the change of sign method fails as there is no change of sign either side of the root . This is a failure of the change of sign method. x = g(x) method Another way of finding a root is using the x = g(x) method. I have chosen the function of x, f(x) = 2x³+ x² 5x+1, the graph of the function looks like the following: From the graph, it can be seen that there are roots in the interval [ 2, 1], [0,1] and [1,2]. A successful business will motivate their employees to grow and develop new skills. Their employee ratings are also equal to Google and Wegmans. This company focuses on growth and learning. Happy employees feel a sense of accomplishment in their work. They like themselves and what they do, and they also find satisfaction from their work. Conflict theory holds that social order is maintained by domination and power, rather than consensus and conformity. Conflict theory also ascribes most fundamental developments in human history, such as democracy and civil rights, to capitalistic attempts to control the masses rather than desire for social order. Symbolic interaction theory is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have conventionalize meanings. Second, conflict theory relates to the movie because the movie was based on two different social groups. The different social groups didn t want any relations with one another. For example, the major conflict of the movies was the relationship that formed between the Capulet and Montague genomes. The relationship caused a war between the families. Last, Symbolic interaction theory relates to the movies because the movie used to label to identify the different social groups. The symbols of the groups were their hats which showed that they were genomes. The different symbolic interactions between the groups were the color of their hats. For example, the Capulet s hats were red and the Montague s hats were blue. The Capulet s were represented as a lower standard social class than the Montages. I liked having this assignment. • 7. Five Themes In Slaughterhouse Five In the book Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut s purpose of creating and alternative, structure of time and Tralfamadorian s was to mix descriptions of historic Dresden and his personal wartime experiences. Vonnegut uses Tralfamadorian fantasy and bits from his earlier fiction to create a meaningful story and give understand of how Vonnegut felt when he was in war. Vonnegut uses a stream of events to express the difficult time Billy goes through when trying to fully adapt to the Tralfamadorian s involvement with the Dresden Bombing. Throughout the story Billy jumps in time. Every individual moment in time happens at the exact same time as every other moment, so the past, the present, and the future are illusions. Billy s time jumping is caused by his PTSD that he got from being a part of the Dresden Bombing. Vonnegut uses Billy s time traveling is his experiencing what all Tralfamadorian s experience. They see there consequences and repercussions of their actions at the time they happen. That s the point of Billy s time travel. To show that humans don t see the whole picture, that we don t know what our consequences will be. The point is if humans didn t see the whole picture they wouldn t do things like the bombing of Dresden. Vonnegut uses both Billy and Tralfamadorian s to demonstrate this. Slaughterhouse Five is filled with symbols or motifs that are recurring throughout the whole story. The motif I see most recurring is so it goes the phrase Billy says after someone dies in the story, equalizing all of them, whether they are natural, accidental, or intentional. they are on a massive scale or a personal one. Billy uses this saying to say that this one bad thing happening by all of these other good moments does not make it something to be sad about and dwell on. So it goes this phrase is saying that stuff happens in life. People die and life just needs to keep going on and not be stopped for lives that have stopped that if your life is still going you should keep going. This phrase shows a comfort in the Tralfamadorian idea that although a person may be dead in a particular moment, that he or she is alive in all the other moments of their life and can be visited over and over through time travel. The contemporary love story between Roland Mitchell and Maud Bailey develops in parallel with and is intermingled with the story of the Victorian lovers, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte, since the modern academics quest for knowledge of the past drives the modern romance. Ellen actually never managed to have a sexual relationship with her husband. She simply could not bear it, since her, the sexual act is a brutal experience incompatible with marriage. And against all expectations, her husband understood her refusal by accepting her love (p.459)[1]. This acceptance of lack of sexual intimacy is really unusual in the nineteenth century; it was a woman s duty to make love with her husband even though she was not supposed to enjoy it. Most men probably expected their wives to do their duty, and would not endure any privation of that kind. Ash seems to live with it and feels tenderness, friendship, complicity and love for his wife. Following the use of white indentured servants as labourers in the Caribbean, a heavy reliance was placed on the use of African slaves. Roediger and Karpicke (2006) claimed that the testing is a beneficial method in long term retention of the materials, comparing to no testing at all. Likewise, the generate condition in this experiment works an equivalent pattern as a multiple choice tests where some kind of recognition takes place in learning and memory (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). Briefly, the generation effect assists people to retain better memory and thus improve learning across different circumstances. More importantly, the testing phenomenon serves an educational purpose for students at school, regardless of short answer questions, multiple choice questions, or essay questions where no feedback is necessary (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). However, repetitive studying will not guarantee better retention rate in terms of delay testing, and retesting will have a greater impact (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). In practical applications, using flashcards with only key words written and creating tests without multiple choice questions are some of the examples of putting generation effect in use. Based on current researches, repetitive testing produces a powerful effect especially in delayed tests. Yet, the research on the boundary of how long the delay of the tests require before the materials diminish are still unknown. This way, teachers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This way of thinking is difficult to grasp especially for someone who does not know what scepticism really means. In the article Sextus Empiricus, scepticism is defined as an ability, or mental attitude which opposes appearances to judgements in any way whatsoever with the result of mental suspense and state of quietude. In other words, scepticism is having doubts about an opinion that seems not to be true. Being sceptic doesn t necessarily mean that you question everything but instead seek to find enough reason to make an opinion true. This article begins to discuss how a Pyrrhonian, sceptic tries to reach a state of tranquility and quietude. However quietude cannot be achieved if a suspension of judgment exists. • 14. The changes in the consumer taste and the increase in the consumer awareness in eating healthy products and organic foods have increased immensely in the past few years throughout the whole world as well as the UK (BBC, 2001). To have a healthy life, eating organic and healthy is a great way to start. The confusion among the consumers is due to lack of information towards nutrition and individually the amount and what the body needs. Obstacles In Thomas Jefferson s First Barbary War Thomas Jefferson encountered many obstacles during his presidency, in which one of the issues was the First Barbary War, in which the United States and Sweden fought against the Barbary States. One of Jefferson s first actions as president was to reduce military establishments, in hope of transcending wars and peaceful era. The First Barbary War or Tripolitanian War lasted from 1801 to 1805 in the United States. The reason for waging the war was that pirates of the North Barbary States were intercepting American merchant ships and retaining the sailors for ransom, demanding the U.S. to pay tribute to the Barbary rulers. A few young calves playfully bounce around their mother s legs. This peaceful vision is just a time of quiet before a bloody scene unfolds. What this small herd is blissfully unaware of is that poachers are quietly stalking them with murderous intent. This herd of elephants has a plethora of white gold . The US provided aid to those countries who stood to lose the most from the ban. Countries like Botswana, Kenya, and Namibia had successfully managed the elephant populations within their boundaries. On a few occasions the ban has been lifted in order to allow countries to sell, for profit, the large stocks of ivory tusks that have been accumulated from elephants who either died from natural causes, poaching, or had to be destroyed. CITES has voted to lift the ban twice. Once in 1999 which resulted in a one time sale of 60 tons of ivory and another lift was authorized in 2002 ( CITES revises ivory trade policy. and Randerson, James 2). • 18. The Main Features Of Autism Spectrum Disorder Describe the main features of autism spectrum disorder. Evaluate the evidence supporting a biological basis for autism. Autism is a developmental disorder which usually occurs during infancy (Hyman, 2002:217). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term used to refer to many disorders which display symptoms of an autistic style. The spectrum covers all types of symptoms ranging from mild to severe (Hollander, 2003:102). Individuals in the spectrum can range from having severe learning disabilities to being mildly impaired (Nimh.nih.gov, 2014). The linguistic skills can also vary from being mute to having the ability to communicate complex sentences (ibid). The different profiles of the sufferers are diverse (Hyman, 2002:217). However, there are three main areas of which they may have difficulties. These are social reciprocity, an inability to communicate effectively and unusual repetitive or restricted behaviour (Davey, 2014:586) this is known as the triad of impairments (Dodd, 2005:2). This essay will explain the triad of impairments related to ASD to describe the main features of the disorder. In addition, it will evaluate the biological evidence by investigating the research for genetic factors and brain abnormalities, both of which support a biological basis for ASD (Davey, 2014:588). The first main area that describes the features of ASD is impairments of reciprocal social interaction (Davey, 2014:585). This is one of the most dominant features of ASD. ... Bodies are made of res extensa and minds are made of res cogitans and the two are separate. To understand why he thought this we must go back to his mission statement, which was to doubt everything he could in order to find something indubitable which he thought would be certain knowledge. Descartes found that he could doubt everything except that he was thinking since doubt was a kind of thinking, and since thinking requires a thinker he knew that he must exist hence the famous I think therefore I am syllogism known as the cogito. Descartes goes on to say that he can doubt the existence of his body and all other physical things but he cannot doubt his mind exists because of the cogito. Descartes flaw is his liberal use of Leibniz s law, the identity of indiscernibles. The ontological principle states that there cannot be separate objects or entities that have all of their properties in common. • 27. Compare And Contrast Plato And The Matrix Plato and The Matrix Compare and Contrast In comparing the movie The Matrix to Plato s The Allegory of the Cave, both have a theme of trying to find the truth. In the Matrix, Neo is confronted with a difficult choice. Either he can choose the blue pill and forget that Morpheus ever confronted him with such news of the Matrix or he can take the red pill and find out the truth, which is that he has been living in a simulated fantasy world. The Allegory of the Cave is similar in that Plato attempts to explain reality. There are some epistemology questions that occur in both situations such as, what is truth, how do we find it, and how reliable are our perceptions? The people that are prisoners in the cave cannot see the world beyond the cave except for glimmers of light reflecting off the wall and therefore believe that the cave is the real world when in fact if they could escape to the outer world they would realize that outside the cave, in the light, is actually the real world. Another example of comparison is Plato s two world belief, a world of being and a world of becoming. The contrasts between the Matrix and the excerpt from Plato are that in the Matrix, the perceived reality that Neo is experiencing is a better description of what the reality outside the Matrix actually is. Outside the Matrix, Neo discovers a very dark, chaotic, and weird place. Whereas, the cave depicted in Plato s story is a scary and dark place and his place of ultimate reality is in the light ... According to Article 26 of the United Nation s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, yes. It states that everyone should have access to free primary education and equal opportunity access to higher education. Unfortunately, in many places around the world, access is limited either monetarily or governmentally, and even when it is available, a lack of resources or a lack of proper educators can severely limit the quality of the education. As many as 115 million primary age children around the world are not currently in school, and of those who are in school, over 226 million never attend secondary school. In some parts of Africa the literacy rate in children is below fifty percent. Let s take a look at one developing country in particular, South Africa, which is considered to have one of the worst education systems on the planet. South Africa s education system is broken into three parts: elementary schooling, secondary schooling, and tertiary schooling. According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, only about seven percent of South Africans achieve tertiary schooling. As of 2013, South Africa houses 25,720 schools for almost 12.5 million people. That s nearly one in four people in some form of education. When these children are brought into the normal classroom, the strategy that many schools take on is usually called a quot;collaborative teaching quot; approach. This is where special and regular education teachers team up together to collaborate ideas and instruct students with disabilities in general education classrooms (Martson, 1996). Studies have shown that not only do the learning disabled students gain the potential to reach a higher academic standing when mainstreamed (Logan amp; Malone, 1998), but they also are able to develop positive self images and improve social development when included in the classrooms of normal children (Klinger, Vaughn, Schumm, Cohen, amp; Forgan, 1998; Martson, 1996; Shinn et al., 1997). The increase in ability for learning disabled students to recognize and identify words is one of the examples of an academic gain when included in the normal classes (McCormick amp; Becker, 1996). When learning disabled students are incorporated in the normal classroom, self esteem and feelings of self worth are believed to develop more because these students are less likely to be identified as quot;slow quot; by their peers or to feel stigmatized (Klinger et al., 1998). By being in the normal classroom, these students are also able to have more time to develop and keep friendships that are created with the normal class children (Klinger et al., 1998). Grand Narrative Analysis One source of support for the legitimacy of science follows from the so called grand narrative which presents a view of science as an objective, autonomous, self regulating and self correcting process. Jerry Francis identifies three (3) underpinnings to the legitimacy of science but then notes that scientific misconduct does occur. Based upon these three (3) mechanisms, briefly explain how or where the grand narrative is likely to be at least partially naïve or idealistic. Francis (1989) identifies three structures that underpin the legitimacy of the scientific grand narrative . However, the dichotomy between the scientist s personal goals, and collective scientific goals means that these structures are fundamentally flawed. There are three specific instances in which the ideology of the grand narrative is flawed by human nature. Firstly, rewards are not just internal. The grand narrative exists in a universe where everyone doing research is solely motivated to produce research without any pressure from anything outside of their desire to produce high quality research.
