Forensic Pathology
Analyzing different forensic pathologist daily journal, I found it really fascinated what exactly they
are doing. Pathologist are the ones who tend to further expand a criminal investigation through all the
multiple testing. They will run DNA test and bone test throughout the whole day. Most forensic
pathologist have a system when it comes to figuring out the cause of death. Typically, the pathologist
will look for evidence to indicate the cause of death like a cut womb. After they will start running
DNA test. In some cases pathologists will test blood and tissue to identify the person. Furthermore,
pathologists spend most of their time running test in lab. Also, pathologist are able to identify the
amount of time a person has been dead. In

Literary Elements in A Rose For Emily Essay
Escaping Loneliness In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner s use of setting and characterization
foreshadows and builds up to the climax of the story. His use of metaphors prepares the reader for the
bittersweet ending. A theme of respectability and the loss of, is threaded throughout the story.
Appropriately, the story begins with death, flashes back to the past and hints towards the demise of a
woman and the traditions of the past she personifies. Faulkner has carefully crafted a multi layered
masterpiece, and he uses setting, characterization, and theme to move it along. Miss Emily s house as
the setting of the story is a perfect metaphor for the events occurring during ... Show more content on

While the outside of her house mirrors her physical decay the interior of the house allows the reader a
glimpse into her mental and emotional state. Even though the outside may still be somewhat beautiful
and dominating with it s classic structure, the inside of the house smelling of dust and disuse and with
furniture in which the leather was cracked (622)shows that the admirable elegance Miss Emily
portrays is just a façade. From the tarnished gilt easel holding her fathers picture and the tarnished
gold head of her cane to the dim hall from which a staircase mounted into still more shadow Faulkner
uses the interiorof her house to allude to Miss Emily s flawed, dark and decaying mind. Miss Emily s
appearance on her deathbed with her gray head propped on a pillow yellow and moldy with age and
lack of sunlight (627) not only resembles the objects in her house covered in dust but also prepares the
reader for the climax of the story. In the final scene when the townspeople find Homer in the room
with curtains of faded rose color and rose colored lights (627), the dark side of Miss Emily s rose
colored world is unveiled. Her obvious loneliness, recorded by the indention on the pillow next to
Homer s body, makes her sin almost

Testing Involved Altering The Mood Of Participants With A...
His method of testing involved altering the mood of participants with a test of verbal abilities, and a
subsequent attribution task to measure how affect influenced their perceptions. To alter participants
moods, a sentence completion test was used. The average completion score was at nineteen sentences,
while the minimum completed by all was fourteen sentences. The happy group was told that
answering seven to thirteen correctly was average and thirteen or higher constituted an above average
score. The sad group was told that average was twenty seven to thirty correct answers, meaning that
they were below average. The control group was thanked and told that their answers would help refine
the test and were dismissed.
In a post exercise questionnaire for the sad and happy groups, the experimenters snuck in questions
from other standard measures that assess a sad happy scale and a bad good scale to measure the effects
of the manipulative feedback.
The next step was the social perception test which asked participants to read an essay from a student
who was participating in a debate. Repeating the conditions of the 1967 experiment, they told the
participants either that the student wrote it of their own free will, or they were forced to take that
position for the purposes of the debate. The topic was one of saliency at the time for Australians,
regarding French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. The essays were not ambivalent, clearly stating

Ideal Men Women of the Heian Court based on “The Tale of...
Genji Monogatari or The Tale of Genji is a story that was written by Murasaki Shikibu during the
Heian period. It is a very well received work of Japanese literature and the first part of the story is
written with the main character being Genji, and then continues without him. I have no knowledge of
the second half of Genji Monogatari but it is in the first section of this tale the characteristics and traits
for ideal men and women of the society within the story can be gathered. The criteria for an ideal man
or woman in The Tale of Genji was the importance of the physical attribute of beauty, the background,
personality, and education of a woman, and characteristics that the main hero of the story, Genji,
possessed. In the society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general community around Genji is probably similar in the audiences understanding of his
character because Genji was still only 17 at the time, and thus for them to lament based mostly on his
beauty is a portrayal of society s love for an ideal and perfect beauty. However, this standard was not
only put on males, but also placed on females. In chapter 2 of Genji Monogatari they speak of many
women and the physical characters that fit the ideal women is that which is pretty, innocent, and
young. The stress men put on beauty is shown in one example said by the Chief Equerry of the story.
In that example, the only thing that he found disagreeable with one of his lovers was that lest her lack
of looks offend me. Going back to Genji s beauty, the men of Genji Monogatari must have been
deeply obsessed with perfect beauty as during chapter 2 they found Genji so beautiful they wished he
was a woman. It is important to note, however, that while the story emphasizes the importance of
beauty in an ideal man or woman, there is never an actual description of physical characteristics make
a perfect beauty. In any case, while beauty is subjective and not defined in Genji, it is clear that it is an
important opinion one must have for another before a person can be considered ideal. Chapter 2 of
Genji Monogatari touched on the physical appearance of woman and how they must look to be
desirable, but it also went in depth of the pluses and minuses of other

Ethical Issues In College Essay

Technology decisions should not be made solely in some geeky corner of the campus. These days
technology should be central to strategic planning and ought to involve top academic leaders. That
was a clear theme of discussions at The Chronicle s Technology Forum, held here last week.
Not convinced? Think about all the private data on computers in campus networks, efforts to set up
emergency notification systems to keep everyone informed when crisis hits, and the growing pressure
from Congress to stop online music and movie piracy.
Campus technology leaders traded tales from the trenches and plenty of advice during the two day
event.

Recent campus shootings, including those at Virginia Tech last spring, and weather calamities, like
Hurricane Katrina, have led campus officials to look for ways to dash out information to students and
faculty and staff members during a crisis.
Michael L. Dame, director of Web communications at Virginia Tech, said 54 companies selling

for a product that not only was reliable but also offered strong protection for student data, he said.
They ruled out companies that offered a free service in exchange for the right to send advertising to

Motorcycle-Car Collisions Research Paper
Motorcycles, which are a small subset of all motor vehicles, are greatly overrepresented in fatal motor
vehicle accidents. In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per 100,000) is
approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per 100,000). 77 Mortality
rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the substantially lower mileage
travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for motorcycles is estimated to be 22
times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger cars.77 Another study also estimated the
death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100 million miles of travel compared with an overall
vehicle death rate of 2.57 per 100 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To evaluate the possibility that motorcycle car collisions may occur at higher speeds than car car
collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the impact
speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found that the
motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9% more likely to
be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more physically vulnerable
than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is 556 per 100 million vehicle
kilometre for two wheeled motor vehicle, compared to 50 for car users in Britain 2002.80
Overcrowded and unsafe modes of public transport contribute to road traffic injuries and death,
particularly in low income and middle income countries. Choice of transport mode is frequently
related to socio economic status, with those who can afford it avoiding these unregulated and
relatively less safe vehicles. A study in Kenya found that buses and matatus (privately owned mini
buses) are the vehicles most frequently involved in fatal crashes and that passengers in these vehicles
account for 38% of the total road

Essay on Neanderthals and Homo sapiens
There is evidence to suggest that Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens had coexisted for
approximately 35 40,000 years, (Fagan 2010) from around 60,000 years ago to 25,000 years ago when
they finally went extinct (Gibbon 2001). Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of their
extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first theory
is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for
resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change
theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better
adapted to the climate. The last theory I will discuss is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al.
2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a
group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones
they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the
fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new
species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007).
Dietary Differences
The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo
sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals
were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals
have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; comparable to that eaten by
contemporary wolves (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that
they were most likely hunters rather than scavengers (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that the
Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate they
inhabited. Evidence suggests however that the Middle East Neanderthals ... living in the relatively
warmest climate consume mostly meat (Sawyer et al. 2007) proving that

In the bible it tells us this, When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were
born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their
wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his
days shall be 120 years. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the
sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty
men who were of old, the men of renown (Genesis,6). This is where the Lord talks about the
Nephilim, they were hybrids, half human and half demon. When Satan was casted down to Earth, his
followers were thrown down with him. They then mixed their DNA with the DNA of a human,
creating what is known as the Nephilim. And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of
great stature, who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty four in number, and
he also was descended from the giants (2 Samuel,21:20). This is where we see great strength of this
beings. In addition, I strongly feel that aliens are in fact, fallen angles and demons. Given the writings
of the most important book on the face of the Earth, God tells us that there are mixed DNA strands
that make people stronger and obtain more knowledge. Furthermore, my research as a Christian, has
been a tough road. As human beings we

What Does It Mean To Be A Girl
It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a
little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will hurt
that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do not
realize that the little girl will grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth less in
society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a female child from birth to
adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of meaning. Four letters
and that s all it takes for someone to roll their eyes and laugh because that word is linked to weakness,
negativity, and obnoxious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or they
will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just add fire to
the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a Marriage in
India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a wife for their son
they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste system, pretty, not too
intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor does she gossip or call home a
lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before marriage. Though these expectations tend to
look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from
society and taking care of the children or perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms
because that is what society unfairly tells us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it
is very important for a girl to protect the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does
disgrace the family (for example not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin
to murder her. Why is a family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic
expectations push girls too far and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even
though society thinks that s the least we could

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in Europe
and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the
world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of
production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if
trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total
production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the
tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the
automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market
opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand,
Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly
saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the “ next wave” of attractive
markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and direct investment, the world
production of cars and trucks s continued to grow (see table 4.4 ). [Table 4.4 about here] The
Evolution of the Automobile The early years of the industry were characterized by considerable
uncertainty over the design and technology of the motorcar.

Last Days Of Summer
Character traits in books are a very essential element and without them, books would not be books.
They provide people with an example that they may follow in order to live a good life. Some books
serve as life lessons to show people how some characteristics can bring downfall to some people if
they do not follow the rules. Throughout Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger, the characters
possess many characteristics that can help us in our everyday life, most importantly, patience. Charlie
learns how to develop patience throughout the book. In the beginning, he despises Joey for the
nonstop letters he keeps sending him. As time goes on the two develop a very good and strong
relationship all because Charlie showed patience to Joey.

Artemis Fowl Chapter Summary
1. Summary The book Artemis Fowl so far has explored the life of the young boy Artemis Fowl the
second, and his quest to restore his family to the glory it once had. Artemis plans on doing this by the
means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy with the
intention of making a profit.
Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale boy
who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. Though he does leave from the
haven of his family manor, Artemis dislikes being in the sun. Artemis father is absent in Artemis life,

2. Quote Analysis Even as the words came out, Artemis felt guilty. These mind games were having an

recently of big data analysis begins with a debate over what is the best way to perform the analysis,
whether the DWHs will be replaced by the new frameworks like Hadoop or not. Some went very far

Benefit Of Climate Change In Canada
The Benefits of Climate Change in Canada Climate change is widely discussed presently, especially
after a sequence of adverse impacts have been caused by it. Generally, the public are unilaterally
advised that climate change causes a series of environmental issues, for instance, global warming and
disappearing islands.Although climate change causes those negative impacts, actually, climate change
will benefit Canada in transportation, agriculture and mineral resources. Firstly, it has been argued that
climate change will damage the transportation system. Reasoning from general science, global

Symbolism Of The Angel In Shakespeare s Cat Of Tremella
Angels are bright still, though the brightest fell, (William Shakespeare) Lucifer, the cat from the movie
Cinderella (1950), represents the Biblical Lucifer. In the way that his fall from the tower (1 hour, 11
minutes), portrays Lucifer (Satan) fall from heaven. Lucifer is an extremely spoiled, imperious, and
gluttonous cat, who seems to disrupt Cinderella plans only making her life harder, showing no
appreciation for her kindness and good nature. He wanted to stay above Cinderella in position. Bruno
the dog represents St. Michael and how he strikes Lucifer down from heaven. Falling from the tower
is to be considered Lucifer descending from his heaven where he had everything, just as the biblical
Lucifer did.
Lucifer is the precious cat of Tremaine s , the step mother of Cinderella. Lucifer, his only loyalty lies
with that of his mistress, Lady Tremaine, who treats him as royalty and acts as his mother figures. She
fuels him with ignorance, arrogance, and a superiority complex towards all others. For example, the
scene where Lucifer lays on the bed with lady Tremaine (22 minutes), he creeps onto the bed and into
the shadows, this symbolizes his dark evil essence. As she orders Cinderella with excessive chores,

Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote
Truman Capote s writing techniques are an essential component to the overall effect that his message
gives to the readers. The use of rhetorical as well as literary devices work hand in hand to show the
reader just exactly what Capote was trying to convey through his words. At first glance, it may be
difficult to decipher the message, however once one digs deeper the message becomes much clearer.
Capote wants the audience to understand the importance of living life to the fullest because it can
change drastically in the matter of minutes. Although he explains very little that directly relates to his
true purpose, his subtle use of stylistic devices work in cohesion to express his ideas, thus the
importance of living life to the fullest at all times is greatly emphasized. His message is explored
through the use of extensive foreshadowing throughout the section preceding the murders. Capote
writes, There s him. Her. The kid and the girl. And maybe the other two. But it s Saturday. They might
have guests. Let s count on eight, or even twelve. The only sure thing is every one of them has got to
go (Capote 37). The obvious foreshadowing expressed in this piece is just the first part to the rest of
the sections that force us to realize how vital it is to appreciate life and live it to the fullest. It
exemplifies how life can change at any given moment and the suspense offered in this quote further
embodies that idea. Along with foreshadowing, Capote extends his message with

provoking. The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason women are
seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered myself. The idea
that the media and culture surrounding women is one of a purposeful preoccupation with beauty and
the conceived notions of what that means is very striking. To continue the discussion about her idea
surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with beauty standards it is easy to segue the
conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. The numerous repercussions of this preoccupation
with unrealistic beauty standards is manifested in both physical and mental effects. One of the effects
that was discussed to a large extent is eating disorders, which affects both the physical and mental
aspects of a woman s (or man s) well being. The effects of eating disorders, in particular anorexia
which is categorized by restrictive and obsessive eating behaviors, can be catastrophic. As Naomi
Wolf discussed in a person story about her own eating disorder ... Show more content on

It was obvious to me just watching the film and the shots of the crowd, especially at moments of
interaction, that these unrealistic standards of beauty to one extent or another have an effect on women
from all walks of life. Speaking in the realm of the United States alone it is possible to say that any
woman is who is continuously exposed to mass media, especially from an early age, will be in one
way or another affected by this beauty myth . To what extent the effect is I believe does vary between
ethnicities. This ideal beauty is often portrayed as overwhelmingly blonde and caucasian so I could
see how this would cause even more of a negative impact among women of color than on white

Neil Degrasse Tyson Rhetorical Devices
Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure science...
is said by Edwin P. Hubble. The passage Coming to Our Senses is written by Neil deGrasse Tyson. In
this passage it discusses how our senses are limited and how they can be improved by technology.
Tyson uses many rhetorical devices in his passage such as rhetorical questions, sensory details, and
figurative language . By using these he made the reader to be more involved with the passage because
they now have to think but at the same time read and comprehend the story. One rhetorical device
Tyson uses is asking rhetorical questions. By asking these he lets the reader ponder about what he is
going to talk about. He does not expect the reader

A Comparison Of Kosovo On The World Bank s 2011 Options...
A comparison of Kosovo s reported actual generation for the period 2004 2014 compared to the World
Bank s 2011 Options Study projections of generation usage shows that the World Bank overestimated
electricity usage for the period 2010 2014 by on average 14 percent annually. During the five year
period for which data is available, the spread between actual and projected generation increased in
greater amounts in years three through five than in years one and two.
If the economy does not grow as anticipated, the demand for electricity will not be as great as
projected. This could reduce the use of the New Kosovo Power Plant (or some other component of
Kosovo s electricity system), causing the price of electricity from the plant to rise as ... Show more

Figure 9 below shows that Kosovo s commercial banks had $2.6 billion on deposit at the end of 2014.
Its loan to deposit ratio was approximately 76 percent, but slipped to 81 percent as of February 2015.
Figure 9: Kosovo Commercial Banks Deposits and Loans: December 2009 February 2015 Source:
The World Bank Group in Kosovo, Country Snapshot, April 2015, Figure 3.
Adding the New Kosovo Power Plant to the commercial loan levels of Kosovo s banking institutions
would increase loan levels from €2.08 billion to €3.0 billion, pushing the loan to deposit ratio over
100 percent. This one transaction would increase macroeconomic risk for the country. First, it would
concentrate risk in an economy that is small and is already struggling with risk diversification.
Second, it would exceed the standard set by independent bank examiners to maintain an 80 percent
loan to deposit ratio. Third, it would add to political tensions in the country on a range of issues
related to domestic and foreign banking. Fourth, it is likely to place credit constraints on other sectors
at a time when the private economy is vulnerable; according to the World Bank, the current growth
model for private development in Kosovo is already unsustainable.
The likely scenarios put forth thus far regarding the structure of the loan, including an interest rate
subsidy from a consortium of public and private lenders, would place long term pressure on Kosovo s

Sunspots Observation Report
The best time to see the next aurora borealis will be around 2025 and 2024. The evidence that led to
my claim was trying figuring out the pattern and calculating the max for every year. The number of
sunspots on the surface of the Sun changes from year to year. This rise and fall in sunspots counts in a
cycle. The graph shows every 11 or 10 years average we get a max of sunspots, that s called a solar
maximum. The more sunspots we have the more solar weather we have, that s more particles being
released into space, that means there will be more aurora activity. The concepts that relate to the
evidence and support my claim are taking notes and using the sunspots graph. The best time to see the
aurora borealis are April through August.

China Vs Jap More Than A Century Of Conflict
China vs. Japan: More than a century of conflict
Enchantria Fleming
Excelsior College
For more than a century, China and Japan have had conflict after conflict, from the first Sino Japanese
war between the Qing Empire and the Empire of Japan then the second Sino Japanese war nearly 50
years later. The conflict between these two countries stems from fights over territory to constant
scrutinization between the two because of cultural differences and what I believe has begun to exhibit
signs of cultural incompetence.
The First Sino Japanese war allowed Japan to emerge as a major world power while revealing the
weakness of the Chinese empire. Both China and Japan wanted to rule supreme over Korea. Korea
was already one of China s most significant clients. Japan started to notice Korea for its geographic
positioning and its natural resources (coal and iron). After Japan implemented Western technology,
Korea was forced to expose itself to trade with Japan and proclaim independence from China.
Japanese reformers attempted to overthrow the Korean government in 1884. Chinese troops rescued
the king killing several Japanese guards in the process. War was evaded between the two countries by
signing of the Li Ito convention, both countries had to withdraw troops from Korea. In 1894, Kim Ok
kyun, a pro Japanese Korean leader of the 1884 rebellion, was invited to Shanghai and assassinated.
His body was then placed aboard a Chinese warship and directed back to Korea, where it

Women s Influence Of Women In The Renaissance
The Renaissance is defined most simply as a time period of societies renewed interest in the
importance of art, education, literature and architecture. These ideals inspired many people to make
advancements in these fields and make their mark on history. Before the Renaissance began, women
were shoved into the background; they were not given many opportunities to lead their own lives. This
reform movement guided women away from the oppression of societal norms and allowed them to
form their own personas by becoming inspiring authors, arguing for their equality to men, and using
the societal situations to become inspirations to others.
In society in the 1300 s, women had integral parts in the running of a family and household. They
cared for the children and visitors, while also looking after their husbands accounts. This meant that
women were expected to keep themselves out of the public eye and behave according to their social
class. In the online article it is stated that, First a woman was a daughter and then a wife, mother, or
widow. In contrast, male roles were generally defined by social position or occupation ( Women In
The Renaissance and Reformation ). This proves that women were held to certain expectations and
standards. These standards kept women under the control of supreme male authority and did not give
them the freedom to lead their own lives. Women were silenced before the Renaissance period.
Society told women they were to be respectful daughters and

Analysis Of Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity
In Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity (dir. Billy Wilder, 1944), character Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray)
becomes enchanted by the seductive Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck). However, through an act
of lust, Neff gets involved in a murderous scheme with Dietrichson. The entirety of the movie is a
flashback as Neff recalls his scheme. He records his guilty testimony onto a dictation machine, which
is partially overheard by his clever boss, Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson). Double Indemnity is
composed of several shots, scenes, and sequences that intentionally provoke anxiety and alienation;
these instances also contain elements that have a peculiar combination of realism and oneirism. In one
of the earliest scenes, Walter Neff meets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, in the house, the lighting becomes noticeably dim, with only a little bit of sunshine coming in
from the outside. This lighting adds to the hazy quality of the scene and the overall oneiric atmosphere
Wilder was trying to achieve. Similar to how the hazy quality adds to the oneiric atmosphere of the
shots in the Dietrichson s household, the elements of the mise en scène contribute to the realistic
characteristics of the first shot. Here, the viewer is presented with a seemingly perfect upper class
neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The children outside are playing baseball and an ice
cream truck drives by, representing the epitome of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear,
with the light source coming from the right. However, the lighting is practically uniform in this shot.
There are several hues and colors present in this shot, which is consistent with the realm of reality.
Each frame of the camera is busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the
props and the actors. However, it can also be argued that the first shot though fairly realistic is
interrupted by oneiric qualities. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism
lingers in the design of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. One of the most pivotal of German
Expressionist cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene, 1920) presents distorted
environments. For example, while one would expect sidewalks and

An Analysis Of Van Halen s Why Can T This Be Love
After an excruciatingly uncomfortable cab ride back to his neighborhood, Tom paid the driver, and
ignoring the curious stares from the many bystanders going about their Saturday morning business, he
hurried into his apartment building. He felt vulnerable wandering around in public in his underwear,
and he longed for the sanctuary of his home, free from the scrutiny of prying eyes. While he
recognized he had acted irrationally, spurred into action by the ferocity of Booker s kiss, it was the
second time his lover had pounced on him and forcefully tried to demand what should only be given
freely, and the uncharacteristic behavior unnerved him. Something wasn t right, but as much as he
loved the dark haired officer, he was too afraid to hang around and find out exactly what was going on
inside his head. He needed space, and although he didn t want to admit it, he also needed time to
reevaluate their relationship. A ripple of uncertainty was slowly gaining momentum inside his mind,
and he was no longer sure if committing to Booker so soon after his rape was the right thing to do. ...

you that our oceans and water life are being overfished resulting in a decrease in fish. The author uses
cause and effect to show the population of our fish decrease its numbers. The article states the cause
and effect by saying the numbers of big fish predators decreased slowly. In 1970, their populations
started to drop. Around that time, fishing ships began using new tools that led to catching more fish.
The numbers have been falling quickly ever since. (paragraph 5) In this

customers. The estimated annual household income for the area around the barbershop is $52K with
half of that population being married couples with dual income. Our prices help them save money

A Bar At The Folies Bergere Essay
A Bar at the Folies Bergère was one Manet s last pieces and was part of the avant garde and
Impressionists movement into modernism. He was inspired by Gustave Courbet s realism and how he
approached modernism with the working class like his piece The Stone Breakers. He also wanted to
rise to a challenge from an argument made in Charles Baudelaire s essay The Painter of Modern Life
to be painters of contemporary manners . . . using both modern subjects and new approaches to seeing
and representing the visual world. He often painted controversial pieces like Le DĂŠjeuner Sur L Herbe
(The Luncheon on the Grass) and Olympia to shock the bourgeoisie with subject matters that were
considered immoral to the art world showing the reality of society during that time. While painting
this, he was incredibly ill with syphilis thus A Bar at the Folies Bergère was his last major piece to be
completed and hung in the Salon.
Just like his major pieces, he is also demonstrating modernism by having a working barmaid at the
Folies Bergère as the focal point of the piece (Fig. 1). Unlike his piece Olympia, Manet painted the
barmaid with softer strokes instead of intense lining of the body, yet she still has that pale tone with
some pinkness in her cheeks. While the Folies Bergère was a place of entertainment, her gaze is rather
a look of boredom or aloofness perhaps to show that she is not fully part of the bourgeoisie. Because
her dress, it makes her class ambiguous and possibly a

Public Transportation Bill Essay
Background Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in
desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe,
citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public
transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is
because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the
government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to
strive for and meet in the near future. The government is pouring billions of dollars every year to
sustain and attempt to fix the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have to become more responsible in our way of life and realize that oil will soon run out at current
rates and we have to embrace public transportation now if we are to succeed in the upcoming future.
Also, our goal is to make this a greener nation. By reducing the number of cars on the road and
making it possible for every citizen to have access to public transportation, we can reach this goal. It is
our duty and responsibility to take care of the planet and make sure that we do not cause our own
destruction. Reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses will put our nation on the right path
for the future.
Our Plan With the overall objective in mind of providing public transportation to all Americans, we
have to understand all of the different modes of transportation that need to be reconstructed and
funded properly. America is a geographically diverse nation and all need to be taken into account to
meet the growing demand of transportation over these differing regions. First off, we have to address
states that must begin to rely on ferry transport across bodies of water. The ferry system needs
adequate funding so that commuters can cross bodies of water such as the Puget Sound and
Chesapeake Bay. Docks, landings, ferry boats, and employees will all need funding to ensure that this
happens. Water public transportation is an unutilized territory and in this growing age we hope to help
it strive. We plan to rebuild ferry landings

Mark Morris Snowflakes
A dance piece that struck my attention and that I wanted to learn more about was the Waltz of the
Snowflakes in the production of Hard Nut by Mark Morris, which is his own production, based on The
Nutcracker . Instead of Prima Ballerinas gracefully dancing across the stage, Morris decided to create
a giant ensemble of men and women in tutus. I believe Morris wanted to express a more modern take
on The Nutcracker and use an ensemble to create a piece that is inclusive in the times.
Mark Morris is known as one of the most successful and influential choreographers alive, and
indisputably the most musical (New York Times). From Seattle, Washington Morris performed with

Me And Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis
Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (hereafter Me and Earl) was the big hit coming out of this year s
Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize. Thus, Me and
Earl duplicated the feat that Whiplash managed last year. Since I liked Whiplash, I wanted to see Me
and Earl. Since Me and Earl features characters with which I should easily identify, I wanted to see it
even more. It did not disappoint my high expectations.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tells the story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a loner in high school, and his
doomed friendship with Rachel (Olivia Cooke). The awkward Greg only wants to survive high school,
and to accomplish this goal he ingratiates himself with every student in the school. He has no friends,
only acquaintances, but he makes no enemies, either. Greg does, however, hang out with his co worker
Earl (RJ Cyler), who he has known since kindergarten and makes parodies of classic films with. When

At times, Me and Earl is downright hilarious. Nearly every time Earl talks, I laughed or smiled. The
silly parodies Greg and Earl make of classic movies are funny on multiple levels, whether title or their
rendition of famous scenes. (Examples include Brew Velvet, 2:48 PM Cowboy, A box of lips wow,
and A Sockwork Orange, all of which include amusing scenes. It should also be noted that another
highlight of this movie is its infectious love of other movies). The funniest bit, however, comes from a
touch by the director Alfonso Gomez Rejon. Greg describes hot girls as moose that accidently trample
on lame guys (chipmunks). Whenever the film s resident attractive girl approaches Greg, Gomez
Rejon shows a Claymation moose stomping on a chipmunk. I laughed every time this

  • 2. Forensic Pathology Analyzing different forensic pathologist daily journal, I found it really fascinated what exactly they are doing. Pathologist are the ones who tend to further expand a criminal investigation through all the multiple testing. They will run DNA test and bone test throughout the whole day. Most forensic pathologist have a system when it comes to figuring out the cause of death. Typically, the pathologist will look for evidence to indicate the cause of death like a cut womb. After they will start running DNA test. In some cases pathologists will test blood and tissue to identify the person. Furthermore, pathologists spend most of their time running test in lab. Also, pathologist are able to identify the amount of time a person has been dead. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literary Elements in A Rose For Emily Essay Escaping Loneliness In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner s use of setting and characterization foreshadows and builds up to the climax of the story. His use of metaphors prepares the reader for the bittersweet ending. A theme of respectability and the loss of, is threaded throughout the story. Appropriately, the story begins with death, flashes back to the past and hints towards the demise of a woman and the traditions of the past she personifies. Faulkner has carefully crafted a multi layered masterpiece, and he uses setting, characterization, and theme to move it along. Miss Emily s house as the setting of the story is a perfect metaphor for the events occurring during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the outside of her house mirrors her physical decay the interior of the house allows the reader a glimpse into her mental and emotional state. Even though the outside may still be somewhat beautiful and dominating with it s classic structure, the inside of the house smelling of dust and disuse and with furniture in which the leather was cracked (622)shows that the admirable elegance Miss Emily portrays is just a façade. From the tarnished gilt easel holding her fathers picture and the tarnished gold head of her cane to the dim hall from which a staircase mounted into still more shadow Faulkner uses the interiorof her house to allude to Miss Emily s flawed, dark and decaying mind. Miss Emily s appearance on her deathbed with her gray head propped on a pillow yellow and moldy with age and lack of sunlight (627) not only resembles the objects in her house covered in dust but also prepares the reader for the climax of the story. In the final scene when the townspeople find Homer in the room with curtains of faded rose color and rose colored lights (627), the dark side of Miss Emily s rose colored world is unveiled. Her obvious loneliness, recorded by the indention on the pillow next to Homer s body, makes her sin almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Testing Involved Altering The Mood Of Participants With A... His method of testing involved altering the mood of participants with a test of verbal abilities, and a subsequent attribution task to measure how affect influenced their perceptions. To alter participants moods, a sentence completion test was used. The average completion score was at nineteen sentences, while the minimum completed by all was fourteen sentences. The happy group was told that answering seven to thirteen correctly was average and thirteen or higher constituted an above average score. The sad group was told that average was twenty seven to thirty correct answers, meaning that they were below average. The control group was thanked and told that their answers would help refine the test and were dismissed. In a post exercise questionnaire for the sad and happy groups, the experimenters snuck in questions from other standard measures that assess a sad happy scale and a bad good scale to measure the effects of the manipulative feedback. The next step was the social perception test which asked participants to read an essay from a student who was participating in a debate. Repeating the conditions of the 1967 experiment, they told the participants either that the student wrote it of their own free will, or they were forced to take that position for the purposes of the debate. The topic was one of saliency at the time for Australians, regarding French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. The essays were not ambivalent, clearly stating a position ... • 5. Ideal Men Women of the Heian Court based on “The Tale of... Genji Monogatari or The Tale of Genji is a story that was written by Murasaki Shikibu during the Heian period. It is a very well received work of Japanese literature and the first part of the story is written with the main character being Genji, and then continues without him. I have no knowledge of the second half of Genji Monogatari but it is in the first section of this tale the characteristics and traits for ideal men and women of the society within the story can be gathered. The criteria for an ideal man or woman in The Tale of Genji was the importance of the physical attribute of beauty, the background, personality, and education of a woman, and characteristics that the main hero of the story, Genji, possessed. In the society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The general community around Genji is probably similar in the audiences understanding of his character because Genji was still only 17 at the time, and thus for them to lament based mostly on his beauty is a portrayal of society s love for an ideal and perfect beauty. However, this standard was not only put on males, but also placed on females. In chapter 2 of Genji Monogatari they speak of many women and the physical characters that fit the ideal women is that which is pretty, innocent, and young. The stress men put on beauty is shown in one example said by the Chief Equerry of the story. In that example, the only thing that he found disagreeable with one of his lovers was that lest her lack of looks offend me. Going back to Genji s beauty, the men of Genji Monogatari must have been deeply obsessed with perfect beauty as during chapter 2 they found Genji so beautiful they wished he was a woman. It is important to note, however, that while the story emphasizes the importance of beauty in an ideal man or woman, there is never an actual description of physical characteristics make a perfect beauty. In any case, while beauty is subjective and not defined in Genji, it is clear that it is an important opinion one must have for another before a person can be considered ideal. Chapter 2 of Genji Monogatari touched on the physical appearance of woman and how they must look to be desirable, but it also went in depth of the pluses and minuses of other ... • 6. Ethical Issues In College Essay Tampa, Fla. Technology decisions should not be made solely in some geeky corner of the campus. These days technology should be central to strategic planning and ought to involve top academic leaders. That was a clear theme of discussions at The Chronicle s Technology Forum, held here last week. Not convinced? Think about all the private data on computers in campus networks, efforts to set up emergency notification systems to keep everyone informed when crisis hits, and the growing pressure from Congress to stop online music and movie piracy. Campus technology leaders traded tales from the trenches and plenty of advice during the two day event. First, Shore Up Firewalls No one envied Roderick J. McDavis s uncomfortable position. Michael L. Dame, director of Web communications at Virginia Tech, said 54 companies selling emergency notification systems contacted the institute after the shootings. University officials looked for a product that not only was reliable but also offered strong protection for student data, he said. They ruled out companies that offered a free service in exchange for the right to send advertising to participants. • 7. Motorcycle-Car Collisions Research Paper Motorcycles, which are a small subset of all motor vehicles, are greatly overrepresented in fatal motor vehicle accidents. In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per 100,000) is approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per 100,000). 77 Mortality rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the substantially lower mileage travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for motorcycles is estimated to be 22 times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger cars.77 Another study also estimated the death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100 million miles of travel compared with an overall vehicle death rate of 2.57 per 100 million ... To evaluate the possibility that motorcycle car collisions may occur at higher speeds than car car collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the impact speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found that the motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9% more likely to be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more physically vulnerable than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is 556 per 100 million vehicle kilometre for two wheeled motor vehicle, compared to 50 for car users in Britain 2002.80 Overcrowded and unsafe modes of public transport contribute to road traffic injuries and death, particularly in low income and middle income countries. Choice of transport mode is frequently related to socio economic status, with those who can afford it avoiding these unregulated and relatively less safe vehicles. A study in Kenya found that buses and matatus (privately owned mini buses) are the vehicles most frequently involved in fatal crashes and that passengers in these vehicles account for 38% of the total road ... • 8. Essay on Neanderthals and Homo sapiens There is evidence to suggest that Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens had coexisted for approximately 35 40,000 years, (Fagan 2010) from around 60,000 years ago to 25,000 years ago when they finally went extinct (Gibbon 2001). Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of their extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first theory is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better adapted to the climate. The last theory I will discuss is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al. 2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007). Dietary Differences The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; comparable to that eaten by contemporary wolves (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that they were most likely hunters rather than scavengers (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that the Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate they inhabited. He has conducted lots of research through the intelligence agency from the military, government, and corporate witnesses. He first came out with the disclosure of alien activity in 2001. He has furthered his research over the years and has been threatened to stay quiet. Dr. Greer refuses to stay in the dark about this topic, it needs to be out. In the bible it tells us this, When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown (Genesis,6). This is where the Lord talks about the Nephilim, they were hybrids, half human and half demon. When Satan was casted down to Earth, his followers were thrown down with him. They then mixed their DNA with the DNA of a human, creating what is known as the Nephilim. And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty four in number, and he also was descended from the giants (2 Samuel,21:20). This is where we see great strength of this beings. In addition, I strongly feel that aliens are in fact, fallen angles and demons. • 10. What Does It Mean To Be A Girl It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will hurt that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do not realize that the little girl will grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth less in society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a female child from birth to adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of meaning. As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or they will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just add fire to the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a Marriage in India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a wife for their son they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste system, pretty, not too intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor does she gossip or call home a lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before marriage. Though these expectations tend to look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from society and taking care of the children or perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms because that is what society unfairly tells us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it is very important for a girl to protect the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does disgrace the family (for example not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin to murder her. Why is a family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic expectations push girls too far and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even though society thinks that s the least we could ... Grant FORD’ S REVITALIZATION STRATEGY In September 2003, Bruce Blythe took up the new position as chief strategy officer at Ford Motor Company. His appointment came in the wake of a massive upheaval of Ford’ s strategy, leadership, and organization. In 2001, Ford’ s CEO Jacques Nasser had been ousted by the board after a three year tenure. Nasser’ s goal had been to transform Ford into a flexible, customer focused, innovative, global giant— that simultaneously paid careful attention to profitability and shareholder return. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the “ next wave” of attractive markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and direct investment, the world production of cars and trucks s continued to grow (see table 4.4 ). • 19. Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote Truman Capote s writing techniques are an essential component to the overall effect that his message gives to the readers. The use of rhetorical as well as literary devices work hand in hand to show the reader just exactly what Capote was trying to convey through his words. At first glance, it may be difficult to decipher the message, however once one digs deeper the message becomes much clearer. Capote wants the audience to understand the importance of living life to the fullest because it can change drastically in the matter of minutes. Although he explains very little that directly relates to his true purpose, his subtle use of stylistic devices work in cohesion to express his ideas, thus the importance of living life to the fullest at all times is greatly emphasized. His message is explored through the use of extensive foreshadowing throughout the section preceding the murders. Capote writes, There s him. Her. The kid and the girl. And maybe the other two. But it s Saturday. They might have guests. Let s count on eight, or even twelve. The only sure thing is every one of them has got to go (Capote 37). The obvious foreshadowing expressed in this piece is just the first part to the rest of the sections that force us to realize how vital it is to appreciate life and live it to the fullest. It exemplifies how life can change at any given moment and the suspense offered in this quote further embodies that idea. Along with foreshadowing, Capote extends his message with ... The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason women are seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered myself. To continue the discussion about her idea surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with beauty standards it is easy to segue the conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. China Vs Jap More Than A Century Of Conflict China vs. Japan: More than a century of conflict Enchantria Fleming Excelsior College For more than a century, China and Japan have had conflict after conflict, from the first Sino Japanese war between the Qing Empire and the Empire of Japan then the second Sino Japanese war nearly 50 years later. The conflict between these two countries stems from fights over territory to constant scrutinization between the two because of cultural differences and what I believe has begun to exhibit signs of cultural incompetence. The First Sino Japanese war allowed Japan to emerge as a major world power while revealing the weakness of the Chinese empire. Both China and Japan wanted to rule supreme over Korea. Korea was already one of China s most significant clients. Japan started to notice Korea for its geographic positioning and its natural resources (coal and iron). After Japan implemented Western technology, Korea was forced to expose itself to trade with Japan and proclaim independence from China. Japanese reformers attempted to overthrow the Korean government in 1884. Chinese troops rescued the king killing several Japanese guards in the process. War was evaded between the two countries by signing of the Li Ito convention, both countries had to withdraw troops from Korea. • 26. Women s Influence Of Women In The Renaissance The Renaissance is defined most simply as a time period of societies renewed interest in the importance of art, education, literature and architecture. These ideals inspired many people to make advancements in these fields and make their mark on history. Before the Renaissance began, women were shoved into the background; they were not given many opportunities to lead their own lives. This reform movement guided women away from the oppression of societal norms and allowed them to form their own personas by becoming inspiring authors, arguing for their equality to men, and using the societal situations to become inspirations to others. In society in the 1300 s, women had integral parts in the running of a family and household. They cared for the children and visitors, while also looking after their husbands accounts. This meant that women were expected to keep themselves out of the public eye and behave according to their social class. In the online article it is stated that, First a woman was a daughter and then a wife, mother, or widow. In contrast, male roles were generally defined by social position or occupation ( Women In The Renaissance and Reformation ). This proves that women were held to certain expectations and standards. These standards kept women under the control of supreme male authority and did not give them the freedom to lead their own lives. Women were silenced before the Renaissance period. This lighting adds to the hazy quality of the scene and the overall oneiric atmosphere Wilder was trying to achieve. Here, the viewer is presented with a seemingly perfect upper class neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The children outside are playing baseball and an ice cream truck drives by, representing the epitome of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear, with the light source coming from the right. Each frame of the camera is busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the props and the actors. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism lingers in the design of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. He was inspired by Gustave Courbet s realism and how he approached modernism with the working class like his piece The Stone Breakers. He also wanted to rise to a challenge from an argument made in Charles Baudelaire s essay The Painter of Modern Life to be painters of contemporary manners . . . using both modern subjects and new approaches to seeing and representing the visual world. He often painted controversial pieces like Le DĂŠjeuner Sur L Herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass) and Olympia to shock the bourgeoisie with subject matters that were considered immoral to the art world showing the reality of society during that time. While painting this, he was incredibly ill with syphilis thus A Bar at the Folies Bergère was his last major piece to be completed and hung in the Salon. Just like his major pieces, he is also demonstrating modernism by having a working barmaid at the Folies Bergère as the focal point of the piece (Fig. 1). Unlike his piece Olympia, Manet painted the barmaid with softer strokes instead of intense lining of the body, yet she still has that pale tone with some pinkness in her cheeks. While the Folies Bergère was a place of entertainment, her gaze is rather a look of boredom or aloofness perhaps to show that she is not fully part of the bourgeoisie. Because her dress, it makes her class ambiguous and possibly a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Public Transportation Bill Essay Background Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to strive for and meet in the near future. The government is pouring billions of dollars every year to sustain and attempt to fix the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have to become more responsible in our way of life and realize that oil will soon run out at current rates and we have to embrace public transportation now if we are to succeed in the upcoming future. Also, our goal is to make this a greener nation. By reducing the number of cars on the road and making it possible for every citizen to have access to public transportation, we can reach this goal. It is our duty and responsibility to take care of the planet and make sure that we do not cause our own destruction. Reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses will put our nation on the right path for the future. Our Plan With the overall objective in mind of providing public transportation to all Americans, we have to understand all of the different modes of transportation that need to be reconstructed and funded properly. America is a geographically diverse nation and all need to be taken into account to meet the growing demand of transportation over these differing regions. First off, we have to address states that must begin to rely on ferry transport across bodies of water. The ferry system needs adequate funding so that commuters can cross bodies of water such as the Puget Sound and Chesapeake Bay. Docks, landings, ferry boats, and employees will all need funding to ensure that this happens. Water public transportation is an unutilized territory and in this growing age we hope to help it strive. We plan to rebuild ferry landings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Mark Morris Snowflakes A dance piece that struck my attention and that I wanted to learn more about was the Waltz of the Snowflakes in the production of Hard Nut by Mark Morris, which is his own production, based on The Nutcracker . Instead of Prima Ballerinas gracefully dancing across the stage, Morris decided to create a giant ensemble of men and women in tutus. I believe Morris wanted to express a more modern take on The Nutcracker and use an ensemble to create a piece that is inclusive in the times. Mark Morris is known as one of the most successful and influential choreographers alive, and indisputably the most musical (New York Times). From Seattle, Washington Morris performed with companies like Lar Lubovitch, Laura Dean, Hannah Kahn, Eliot Feld, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Me And Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (hereafter Me and Earl) was the big hit coming out of this year s Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize. Thus, Me and Earl duplicated the feat that Whiplash managed last year. Since I liked Whiplash, I wanted to see Me and Earl. Since Me and Earl features characters with which I should easily identify, I wanted to see it even more. It did not disappoint my high expectations. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tells the story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a loner in high school, and his doomed friendship with Rachel (Olivia Cooke). The awkward Greg only wants to survive high school, and to accomplish this goal he ingratiates himself with every student in the school. He has no friends, only acquaintances, but he makes no enemies, either. Greg does, however, hang out with his co worker Earl (RJ Cyler), who he has known since kindergarten and makes parodies of classic films with. When one of Greg s classmates, Rachel, is diagnosed with leukemia, Greg s mother (Connie Britton) forces him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At times, Me and Earl is downright hilarious. Nearly every time Earl talks, I laughed or smiled. The silly parodies Greg and Earl make of classic movies are funny on multiple levels, whether title or their rendition of famous scenes. (Examples include Brew Velvet, 2:48 PM Cowboy, A box of lips wow, and A Sockwork Orange, all of which include amusing scenes. It should also be noted that another highlight of this movie is its infectious love of other movies). The funniest bit, however, comes from a touch by the director Alfonso Gomez Rejon. Greg describes hot girls as moose that accidently trample on lame guys (chipmunks). Whenever the film s resident attractive girl approaches Greg, Gomez Rejon shows a Claymation moose stomping on a chipmunk. I laughed every time this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
