The Hunger Games Trilogy
The Hunger Games trilogy is a story of war, depression, love and survival. It is written in such a way
that you connect with the characters; for example, the infamous love triangle of Katniss, Peeta and
Gale. By the end, everyone was chanting Team Peeta or Team Gale as to who Katniss will finally be
with. Aside from that, however, the people of the country of Panem were under the control of the
Capitol and needed a way to become free from its grasp and that of President Snow. But before the
science behind this story is revealed, one must be brought up to speed on how the story all began. In
the years prior, there used to be thirteen districts of Panem under the Capitol. The districts united in an
attempt to overthrow the Capitol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Katniss would have nothing of it, so she volunteered as tribute in her sister s place. As for the male
representative, Peeta Mellark a baker, painter and one who had a hidden love for Katniss
(unbeknownst to her) was chosen, and the two were sent off to the Capitol to prepare themselves for
the fight of their lives. On to the actual Games themselves. Twenty four tributes (strangers at that), two
from each district, released onto a battlefield for a televised fight to the death for the entertainment
and enjoyment of the Capitol. These Games went on for weeks, with several tributes dying each day.
From the beginning alliances were made to kill off the remaining participants and have the rest of the
Games to themselves, and sadly Katniss was one of the targets. Yet she was determined to stay alive
and to keep Peeta alive, even though he aligned himself with the majority group for a short while. As
the Games progressed, even before the Games began, a story developed between Katniss and Peeta: a
love story. A love story that spread across Panem like wildfire, so much that the two were dubbed star
crossed lovers. This had everyone rooting for Katniss and Peeta, for one of them to be the winner of
the Hunger Games. Whether it was real or fake for Katniss, she was not sure at the time; she just
wanted to make it out alive and take Peeta with her. After several weeks of battle and many deaths of

Bbc Narrative
The Ardennes Forest was alive during the peak of summer. The birds were chirping, wind was passing
through the leaves, and race cars were roaring through Eau Rouge. It was the middle of July and
temperatures soared into triple digits. The sun was beaming down on the magnificent Spa
Francorchamps circuit, and it was a perfect day to go racing. This round in Belgium was the only
round of the BRDC British F3 Championship not held in England, and I was looking to capitalize on
this chance to make my move to the front of the field. Thus far, the season had been difficult with high
ambitions turning into lost prospects and great frustration. However, this weekend was different: there
was a whiff of opportunity in the air. I arrived at the circuit Saturday morning with a positive attitude
following some productive practice sessions the day before. Qualifying hadn t gone to plan, with my
position being seventeenth due to the lack of drafting I had done on my best lap. Despite this, the
engineers set the car up in race trim, and the stage was set for an almighty fight to the front. The car
roared into life, growling and snatching at the road eager to get going . I drove out of the paddock and
began to warm my tires. I rounded the final corner, pulled onto the grid, and began to focus on the
lights. Everything goes silent. The engine revs build until every car is at maximum throttle, and the
green light is shown. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For three agonizing laps, we were behind the safety car, weaving left and right in attempts to keep our
tires warm. Then, the radio channel opens and my engineer says, safety is coming in at the end of this
lap . We pull onto the short front straight and the engine revs rise once again as the green flag waves.
Immediately, there was smoke again; two more cars had a minor collision, and all of a sudden I find
myself sitting in 7th place! Now, the race was

Kurtz Political Corruption
Joseph Conrad an advocate for political corruption The adventure in the heart of darkness captures
image of the real world and underworld of how moral people can be. A summary of The Heart of
Darkness is that Marlow s is an ivory transporter down the Congo. Through his adventure, Marlow
finds out Kurtz is running a corrupt ivory scam company, and Marlow is shocked upon seeing what
the European corporations have done to the African people. The heart of darkness shows the time
between 1885 to 1908 (A very dark time period), and during this time Joseph wrote about his
experience in this era. The heart darkness contrasts Joseph and his character Marlow an advocate for

Joseph Conrad also blamed the western part of the world (The united states also granted colonial

socio political reasons. A small connection I think can be made from this is the major rubber industry

The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay
The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first
leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however, Cleisthenes
equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty thousand men over the
age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This Athenian democracy was
separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated
foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria
the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes
democracy only survived for two centuries. However, his political reform of a democracy is one of
Ancient Greece s best contributions to the entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of
government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by
their elected agents under a free electoral system. It is also defined as a state of democracy
characterized by formal equality of rights at privileges. In short terms, a democracy is ran for the
people, by the people. It is primarily focused on the equality among people, and those same people are
able to control who holds the power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy.
Though, the electoral votes are those that are only accounted for in the election, our vote

A Gaping Hole On Generations

teach my older family how to live today than they taught me how to live. They taught me the basics
but they just do not get how to live in the modern world. Most of this is because of the generation gap
as explained in Nancy Gibbs article Generation Next. I hugely agree that the generation gap is at an all
time high between my generation, the millennials, and that of my parents and grandparents. Young
Americans are forced to be more educated, they feel technology bridges a gap, and while still being
conventional the way they are conventional makes the gap even larger. Gibbs states Young Americans
are now more educated... and [yet] less likely to have a job than previous generations. I agree that
Millennials are certainly more educated then previous generations but as a result not having the right
education makes it difficult to find a job. My uncle, who is currently 82, was able to quite school in
eighth grade in order to find a job to help his father. When he was ready for a career he didn t need to
have a GED or high school diploma to become a pipefitter, he simply interviewed and then learned on
the job. Now not only is it required have some sort of official training in order to obtain a career, but

Game Theory Project Phase 1
GAME THEORY Project Phase I
1. Introduction
Decision concerning electrical transmission network expansion has become harder in the last two
decades. As a matter of fact, the power sector has been decentralized and the electricity market is now
a competitive market. Thus a transmission expansion plan cannot follow the traditional planning
criteria anymore. As a result, new techniques are developed in order to solve the transmission
expansion problem TEP.
Usually different optimization methods are used to solve the TEP: genetic algorithm (GA), Tabu
search (TS) and several heuristic and metaheuristic techniques. Those are called static scenarios.
Dynamic scenarios are the one based on game theory which represents the behavior ... Show more

The model is applied to the Garver six bus system for testing.
A form of non cooperative games is defined in [5]. The concept of reference transmission network
(RTN) is introduced. The RTN is considered to be the sub game perfect Nash equilibrium of the
dynamic game. The game agents in this paper are the planner and all the power producers.
Transmission expansion plans are proposed by the investors and the planner chooses one possible
feasible plan. For each plan a multi stage game is performed and every stage is formed by a number of
spot market sessions. At every spot market an auction is organized and both power producers and
consumers participate and bid. The Nash equilibrium at each stage is computed using diagonalization
algorithm. As an illustrative example, A 3 bus system is used.
In [6] a transmission expansion search methodology is proposed using multiple optimization
techniques. Once the optimal TEP is obtained, the costs of the included projects are evaluated
considering the bargaining solution of the right of ways between investor and land owner, the asset
cost and the level of effort of the corresponding agent (investor). A principle agent game where the
principle is the central planner and the agent is the investor is used to model the expected utility of the
game participants. Finally the bidding competition occur in order to win the project contract. The
optimal bid is concluded depending on the

Essay on Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls
In Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls, the recurring images of the horse and the airplane illustrate
one of the major themes of the novel. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration of the
chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology and ideology
of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the gothic quality
of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in the smaller units.
He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplane to convey these larger themes, while at the same
time using them to comment upon the complex relationship that exists between the Spaniards Fascists
and Communists, alike and religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have abandoned religion, as they have become disillusioned by it, and, therefore, have no
mechanism for atonement. Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality in
battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin invading
their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his enemy in the eye
as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of modern warfare.
The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged, which
can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such technologies, and the
influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to chivalry, become obsolete, but the
people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the almost sacred element of one on one
battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by replacing them with a brand of never
before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies have become the new religion; they have
replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as planes, and mass warfare have replaced the
chivalric ideals of the medieval world.
The meaning of the horse and airplane images can be illuminated through an exploration of Chapter
27, which conveys, without a doubt, their significance. One of the very first

Sonnet 43 Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay
The strong theme of love and commitment runs through the three poems we have been studying in
class. Sonnet 43 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning,
Sonnet 43 is a love poem, beautifully written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning in 1845 and is one of a
series of 44 sonnets, which Barrett Browning wrote in secret about the instance love she felt for her
husband to be Robert Browning a poet himself. She called the series Sonnets From the Portuguese.
The poem opens with a rhetorical question asking how she shows commitment to her husband not
needing a response, How do I love thee? The poem is written in the form of a sonnet, a 14 line poem,
and in iambic Pentameter, which means every line, is made up of ten syllables, which alternate

The simile in the second stanza that she is like a glove , suggests how easily she was cast aside. It also
emphasises how little power she has. This is contrasted with how the speaker might have been a dove
a traditional symbol of innocence. This image is picked up later in the poem with idea of Kate s
stronger wings , which means she is able to fly higher that is to marry the lord of estate.
Yet there is some undermining of Kate s freedom in the fourth stanza that suggests the lord bound her
with his ring , as if he has captured her. This is emphasised by the line You sit in gold and sing . She
seems to be like another possession, this time a living one, but still captured in some way.
The final image of the poem takes the traditional metaphor of a child being a gift . Unlike the
possessions that bought Kate, this is something she cannot have. The contradiction in the speaker s
assertion that her son is both her shame and her pride serves to underline the tensions in the poem.
There is strong use of assonance in parts of the poem, particularly of o sounds, as in the words woe
and moan and howl . These seem to emphasise the speaker s sense of sorrow. Towards the end of the
poem the narrator tells her son to cling closer, closer yet , and the alliteration emphasises both the love
she has for him, and the potential fear that he may be taken

Literary And Cultural Theory During The Modern And...
Theories investigating subjectivity have dominated the field of literary and cultural theory during the
modern and postmodern period. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we understand
the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed entity, with a pre
existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we view the subject as
one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period, whether they be
political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up till the 20th century
has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as being independent and
unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience deriving meaning and
substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors. According to Descartes
true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual ideas that are not essential to
one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical knowledge were foregrounded,
and were focused upon as the most important factors in understanding the world, consequently the
individual was also emphasized as the creator of meaning. Human beings were understood as being
born with great potential, and a stable, true self that if given the right to its unrestrained expression,
could flourish and achieve anything.
Heidegger was one of the first thinkers to

are unsupervised and interact directly with clientele, it is of paramount importance that drivers display
professional attitudes and exemplary customer service. To aid better attitude and exemplary job
performance, it is recommended that a philosophy of autonomy and free will is incorporated into the
job narrative for drivers and dispatch. Studies show that when employees leave that there is an
element of free will in their work, they perform better and demonstrate better workplace behavior
(Stillman, 2010). Specifically, research has concluded that belief in free will facilitates control
behavior and buffers against impulsive action, which, in turn, translates to better job performance

Island Made Thesis
How was the Island Made
By:Jonah Jacksteit
Thesis Statement This report will talk about how the marooned island got made.
An island 2000 km south of Hawai i. The island is at 1°52 23.40 N and 157°19 6.69 W and spans 717
square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they got eroded
away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so by stating how
the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano.
Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are
breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and
mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. These seeds for plants
probably got transported to the island by birds except for the coconuts because there aren t any land
borders to any other island. Because there are no land boarders it gives us some evidence that the
island got made by a volcano.

Population Overpopulation Over Population
overpopulation and population density
When we think of population density most people aren t positive on this is actually means. In this
essay, I will state why population density is becoming a problem in today s society and how this is
having an effect on our environment, political, and economic state of countries. According to
dictionary.com population density is the number of people living per unit of an area (e.g. per square
mile); the number of people relative to the space occupied by them
After some secondary research, I found out that the continent of Asia has the highest population
density in the world if we look at the statistics on geolounge.com the countries with the highest
population density are Asia, Africa, and North America. If we narrow this down to induvial countries
we can see from this graph on the right that there is a cluster within Asia, the country that shows us
this is China is overpopulated because of the colour of the country and if you refer it back to the map.
Once you refer it back to the map you can see that China has approximately 150 people living per
square kilometre in China, this is mainly because of highly over populated cities in China. For
example, Hong Kong, Hong Kong has a high population density of 6,349 people living per square
kilometre, which is massive compared to different smaller countries like The Republic of China
(Taiwan) who have a population density of 639 people per square kilometre. I know this by referring

Why The British Petroleum Was Responsible For The Accident
No doubt that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was one of the worst and the largest oil in the history of
the world. In the following essay we will discuss about the various aspects related to the accident and
find out whether if the British Petroleum was responsible for the accident.
BP or British Petroleum is the largest corporation in the United Kingdom and is an international
company that operates in oil, gas and chemical industry. The company is headquartered at London. It
owns various refineries as well as chemical plants across the globe. The company produces around
32000,000 barrels of oil daily and operates more than 25K oil service stations across the world with
total employee strength up to 85,000. (bp.com, 2015)
In Gulf of Mexico, BP had been operating the offshore drilling rig called Deepwater Horizon which it
had leased from the Transocean. During the mid of April 2010, there was explode on it as a result of
which it had collapsed. This had caused the rupture in the riser of the deep oil well where it has been
operating. It was followed by the largest ever oil spill in which around five million barrels of oils was
released in the marine environment of gulf of around seventy thousand sq. miles. The accident had
also claimed eleven on board causalities and seventeen critical injuries. More than 2 million gallons of

Power Of Story Analysis
Wk2 The Power of Story Response
Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from generation
to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history.
I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and
uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were
exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult
times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition.
Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a
comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and
non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding
information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify with. I
know I can because I have personally experienced being restless, reckless, wretched, and wanting to
leave home and live the worldly way. I had good role models at home, but could not resist ... Show

The Relationship Between Hpv And Cervical Neoplasia
Evidently, in the 1990s the relationship between HPV and cervical neoplasia was confirmed.[7]
According to Bosch et al., the 1990s produced the key results of case control and cohort studies, and
witnessed an increasing number of results on the clinical uses of HPV DNA testing in screening and
triage, [24] and, as Liaw et al. (1995) noted in their case control studies, it was also becoming
apparent that those with multiple HPV infections have a higher risk of developing cancer of the
cervix. [26]
With the changing dimension of research studies having confirmed that HPV was a necessary cause of
cervical cancer, epidemiological studies advanced to associating different strains of HPV to different
anogenital pathologies, categorizing different histological forms of cervical cancer in relation to HPV
strains and highlighting other risk factors that may play a prominent role or catalyze the carcinogesis
process. For instance, Ngelangel et al. (1998) in their hospital based case control studying the
Philippines detected HPV DNA in 93.8% case subjects with squamous cell carcinoma, 90.9% in case
subjects with adenocarcinoma/adenosquamous carcinoma as opposed to just 9.2% of control subjects.
[27] They observed the presence of fifteen different HPV types in squamous cell carcinoma, and six
different HPV types in adenocarcinoma/adenosquamous carcinoma while noting that, apart from HPV
16 and HPV 18, HPV45 had the strongest association with squamous cell carcinoma. [27] The same

How Tuition Fees Deter The Attendance Essay
Increased enrollment and a decreased fiscal focus by governments on post secondary education has
led to the ongoing inflation of tuition rates in Canada. By comparing countries with exorbitantly high
tuition rates and countries with free education, the efficacy of the Canadian system can be studied.
This paper will explore how tuition fees deter the attendance to university by low income and
international students, and address the need to restructure our economically outdated post secondary
system.
Post secondary education is highly valued in Canada. Statistics Canada (2016) recorded that 64.1% of
Canadians between the ages of 25 to 64 possess some form of post secondary education, a percentage
that has been steadily increasing throughout the years. However, this influx in enrollment for higher
education has greatly affected the way in which public institutions are funded. Historically, Canadian
colleges have been funded largely through federal and provincial government grants, yet following the
recession in the 1970s, funding was seriously impacted as the government was forced to focus their
fiscal funding in higher priority areas (Jones, 2014). In addition, health and education were grouped
together in federal allowances to the provincial government in 1995, resulting in more than 4.5 billion
dollars between 1995 and 1997 (Fisher, et al, 2006). This forced provincial governments to reevaluate
and reform their systems, with many provinces choosing to decrease funding to

Literary Romanticism In Wordsworth s Lyrical Ballads
Literary ballads is considered the seminal inspirational work of literary romanticism in Britain. The
publication of Lyrical Ballads represented a turning point for English poetry. Though the book was not
originally received as a radical experiment, it was rather controversial for its time. Being released
straight during the French revolution which was seen as a social experiment in itself. Coleridge
encouraged Wordsworth to write a preface to Lyrical Ballads which would explain the work contained
within the collection.
The phrase experimental originated from Wordsworth himself and the preface gave him the
opportunity to explain and defend the rather radical work to the readers. Wordsworth expressed
concern on how lyrical ballads would be received by his readership. That it would not only not meet
their expectations but would make them question his ability as a poet also. He knew that the poems he
was writing were so intentionally experimental that his reader s reactions would be mixed I flattered
myself that they who should be pleased with them would read them with more than common pleasure:
and on the other hand, I was well aware that by those who should dislike them they would be read
with more than common dislike.

Games With Simulated Violence Essay
Many games include guns, and have vicious ambushes. They are addictive and crazy. Violence may be
harsh, but can games with simulated violence teach lessons. Games are just for fun they aren t
harming anyone or anything. Games with simulated violence may not seem like it would teach a
lesson, but in most games they can. They learn things like, social and emotional behaviors, learn
social advantages plus real life conflicts, and learn information in a fun way. Many simulated violent

Overview of Free Trade Barriers
Throughout history nations have utilized trade barriers such as tariffs and embargoes to regulate trade
among other nations (Bartlett, 1998). The purpose of such trade barriers was to provide safeguards for
a nation s imports and exports. The philosophy surrounding the use of trade barriers has changed from
time to time with there being periods when they were used extensively and periods when they were
abandoned entirely. Prior to the First World War international trade was flourishing and although
tariffs were being used by a variety of nations they did little to discourage trade. During and after the
War, however, trading barriers between nations put heavy burdens on international trade and by the
time that the Great Depression struck world trade had reached a point of near stagnation (Madsen,
2001).
The United States and Great Britain in the waning days of the Second World War recognized that a
resumption of international trade was necessary in order to assist the war torn European economy. In
an attempt to avoid the heavy trade barriers that were in operation prior to the War, the United States
injected millions of dollars in aid in order to induce world trade. Such measures worked for a short
period but a more permanent solution was necessary and there was a split of opinion on what the
permanent solution should be. The attempts at reaching a solution became the source of considerable
debate and as time progressed the situation became quite acrimonious.

Piracy Is The Only Media Losing Money
Even though file sharing can spread the word on any media and increase its popularity, online piracy
should be regulated and stopped to support the maker of the source. Piracy is stealing content from the
makers and the entertainment industry loses billions of dollars each year due to piracy. The economy
takes a huge blow from piracy. The people who make the movies come to life lose jobs. Over 750,000
jobs have been lost due to online piracy. That s 71,060 jobs a year. This includes technicians, editors,
producers, camera operators, and many more. These people make up 2.4 million employees of the
entertainment industry.

If more people don t see these movies in the theaters, the business may go extinct. All the money the
movies make does not go to the theaters. They make all their money from popcorn and drinks. If
people stay home and watch the movie illegally, not only does the people who make the movie lose
money but the theater also loses money and more business go out of business.
If we re losing so much money from these pirates, how much piracy is there. That s a very hard
question to answer because there is so much. It s like counting ants; the figures are so small. A lot of
companies use the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) statistics. They re not perfect but
they work for research purposes.
It seems obvious that most pirates are located in countries where there are computers and internet
access. These locations are most likely in developed countries like the United States, Russia, and the
United Kingdom. Tracking what is uploaded onto sites is possible but is difficult. Networks called

leisure and recreation). These battery operated vehicles allow two to four individuals generally pilots
and scientists, occasionally James Cameron to descend into the depths to make observations and
gather data and samples. The duration of these dives is limited by battery life, human endurance, and
safety protocols, but they typically do not last more than eight to ten hours, including descent time
which is approximately 4 hours for a seafloor depth of 4000 meters (Thorpe, Steele, Turekian).
Traditionally, humans have investigated the ocean from ships on its surface. But to really understand
what it s like on the seafloor, humans need to be on it. Even so, many aspects of ocean exploration are
best left to robots. Remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, are another popular type of submersibles.
They are unmanned vessels controlled by scientists onboard a ship via a tethering cable. On the ship,
pilots send commands and power to the ROV. The ROV then sends back data and live video to those
on the ship. ROVs typically contain sonar equipment, video cameras, and still cameras. Depending on
the research objective, the ROV may also have manipulator arms for collecting samples of rock,
sediment, or ocean life to return to scientists (Lewis).
The last form of popular submersible, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), are vehicles that can
navigate vast distances and collect scientific data without any human control.

Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge
The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington praying for his
troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to understand the conditions of
soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is one of the most famous times during the
American Revolution even though it was not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were
losing the Revolution and many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I
would have been at Valley Forge I would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many
people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the military if three
conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper supplies and lack of belief in the cause.
Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in
Valley Forge during the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin
with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND ESSAY). Besides
being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled with smoke. So now the soldiers had
to decide if they were going to keep a fire going with the door closed causing them to choke on the
smoke, not have a fire inside, or to open the door and let the cold in. None of these choices were great.
In the diary of Dr. Waldo he described the soldiers housing as hard lodging and that he was smoak d

Rhetorical Analysis Of If Beale Street Could Talk
In If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin, Baldwin explores society s rules of religion, sex,

devices to employ his message. His voice while writing is a lot like how a person would speak if they
were telling a story to a friend. Baldwin uses rhetorical strategies to put across his message.
One major rhetorical device is that Baldwin speaks through a 19 year old female. His point of view is
1st person which gives the reader great access to what Tish is thinking. Even his style of writing is in a
way very much like a child who had to grow up too face. Tish was raised by a pretty well put together

A rocket is a cylindrical projectile that can be propelled to a great height or distance by the

is ultimately within God s control of the earth that it will continue to flourish and provide. However,
Christians certainly have a responsibility to care for the earth. Christians efforts are not invalidated in
working to keep the earth healthy for nature and the people of the earth, both present and future. The
Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis
2:15). It is important for all Christians to try and be helpful in efforts to keep the environment healthy.
Accordingly, Christians should be encouraged to help in any way that they believe to be the most
beneficial to them, and the environment. While the validity of humanity s impact on global warming is
unclear, there are other visible ways that humans impact the environment. Examples of these include
dumping toxic waste, land fill, littering, deforestation, and the pollution of populated areas. Christians
should support the initiatives that they think are most important whether that be helping with cleanups,
education, recycling, research, or other helpful endeavors. In doing so, the negative impact on the
environment from our society and life

What Is The Federal Fiscal Framework Unifying Or Divisive...
Is the federal fiscal framework a unifying or divisive force?
Fiscal Federalism is the backbone of the successful functioning of Canadian society because carrying
out any governmental function requires an assembly of resources associated with the effective
collection and use of those resources, so lets get down to the real business of Canada and divvy up the
cash (Bakvis Skogstad, 2012, p. 126).
The federal fiscal framework engages the mechanisms of intergovernmental relations in which the
issues of resource organization, division, shortages and transfers, garner conflict and are greater
enhanced by the regional and socio political differences and interests inherent throughout Canada.
Federalism is the autonomous division of power allotted

Summary Of Some Lessons From The Assembly Line
In Some Lessons From The Assembly Line , the author Andrew Braaksma, is identifying an
alternative to higher education. His work at the factory teaches him that people grossly underestimate
the value of their time and education. While doing this he is not dismissing the value that the
assembly/production line and factory adds to the world but instead acknowledging the privilege of
engaging in and getting the most out of a higher education.
In Some Lessons From The Assembly Line , the author is acknowledging and I agree, there are
different paths for everyone. He acknowledged in the writing the life lessons he learned in the factory
are just as valuable as the lessons in his college classes. I agree with the statement, As frustrating as
the work can be, the most stressful thing about blue collar life is knowing your job could disappear
overnight. He is acknowledging the people that make their livelihoods and depend on the factory jobs
are living with the threat that their jobs may not be there in the future. ... Show more content on

Until someone has worked in a factory it is hard to imagine the dedication it takes to get up early
every morning and go to a job that you don t love. When you work on an assembly line you are
working under time and quota restraints. The second section that stuck out was the hard work that
factory workers perform, at times for long hours and is done for a much lower pay than what you
would expect. If you are putting in 12 hour days it would seem that your paycheck should reflect

In the main 19th century, countless new enterprises sprang up in the railroad and assembly industries.
The New York Transactions Board had next mandated an association to have a minimum of 100 stocks
in order to transactions in their exchange. Countless of these new firms might not encounter such
necessities to be tabulated on the Board. A cluster of non member brokers catered to the needs of these
firms as they traded their stocks beyond the registered exchanges. These brokers came to be
recognized as the curbstone brokers, as they led their auctions out in the street. These brokers
frequently traded stocks that were speculative in nature. With the invention of oil in the afterward half

Kolton challenged the believed of a coalition alongside the New York Stock Transactions as he
manipulated the transactions saying that two autonomous, viable exchanges are far extra probable to
be responsive to new pressures and area needs than a solitary institution . Kolton proclaimed in July
1977 that he should be departing his locale at the American Transactions in November of that year.
The American Stock Transactions merged alongside the New York Stock Transactions (NYSE
Euronext) on October 1, 2008. Post coalition, the Amex equities company was called NYSE Alternext
US . As portion of the re branding exercise, NYSE Alternext US was re branded as NYSE Amex
Equities. On December 1, 2008, the Curb Transactions constructing at 86 Trinity Locale was closed,
and the Amex Equities interchange floor was advanced to the NYSE Interchange floor at 11 Wall
Road. The Growling Twenties, the decade that pursued Globe Fight I and managed to the Crash, was a
period of wealth and excess. Constructing on post war optimism, countless rural Americans traveled to
the metropolises in large numbers across the decade alongside the hopes of discovering a extra

  • 2. The Hunger Games Trilogy The Hunger Games trilogy is a story of war, depression, love and survival. It is written in such a way that you connect with the characters; for example, the infamous love triangle of Katniss, Peeta and Gale. By the end, everyone was chanting Team Peeta or Team Gale as to who Katniss will finally be with. Aside from that, however, the people of the country of Panem were under the control of the Capitol and needed a way to become free from its grasp and that of President Snow. On to the actual Games themselves. Twenty four tributes (strangers at that), two from each district, released onto a battlefield for a televised fight to the death for the entertainment and enjoyment of the Capitol. These Games went on for weeks, with several tributes dying each day. From the beginning alliances were made to kill off the remaining participants and have the rest of the Games to themselves, and sadly Katniss was one of the targets. As the Games progressed, even before the Games began, a story developed between Katniss and Peeta: a love story. It was the middle of July and temperatures soared into triple digits. The sun was beaming down on the magnificent Spa Francorchamps circuit, and it was a perfect day to go racing. This round in Belgium was the only round of the BRDC British F3 Championship not held in England, and I was looking to capitalize on this chance to make my move to the front of the field. Thus far, the season had been difficult with high ambitions turning into lost prospects and great frustration. However, this weekend was different: there was a whiff of opportunity in the air. I arrived at the circuit Saturday morning with a positive attitude following some productive practice sessions the day before. Qualifying hadn t gone to plan, with my position being seventeenth due to the lack of drafting I had done on my best lap. Despite this, the engineers set the car up in race trim, and the stage was set for an almighty fight to the front. The car roared into life, growling and snatching at the road eager to get going . I drove out of the paddock and began to warm my tires. I rounded the final corner, pulled onto the grid, and began to focus on the lights. Everything goes silent. • 5. The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however, Cleisthenes equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty thousand men over the age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This Athenian democracy was separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes democracy only survived for two centuries. However, his political reform of a democracy is one of Ancient Greece s best contributions to the entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. It is also defined as a state of democracy characterized by formal equality of rights at privileges. In short terms, a democracy is ran for the people, by the people. It is primarily focused on the equality among people, and those same people are able to control who holds the power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy. I promise you it doesn t mean what you think it does! More and more I feel I have to teach my older family how to live today than they taught me how to live. They taught me the basics but they just do not get how to live in the modern world. Most of this is because of the generation gap as explained in Nancy Gibbs article Generation Next. I hugely agree that the generation gap is at an all time high between my generation, the millennials, and that of my parents and grandparents. Young Americans are forced to be more educated, they feel technology bridges a gap, and while still being conventional the way they are conventional makes the gap even larger. Gibbs states Young Americans are now more educated... and [yet] less likely to have a job than previous generations. As a matter of fact, the power sector has been decentralized and the electricity market is now a competitive market. Thus a transmission expansion plan cannot follow the traditional planning criteria anymore. As a result, new techniques are developed in order to solve the transmission expansion problem TEP. Usually different optimization methods are used to solve the TEP: genetic algorithm (GA), Tabu search (TS) and several heuristic and metaheuristic techniques. Those are called static scenarios. The RTN is considered to be the sub game perfect Nash equilibrium of the dynamic game. The game agents in this paper are the planner and all the power producers. Transmission expansion plans are proposed by the investors and the planner chooses one possible feasible plan. For each plan a multi stage game is performed and every stage is formed by a number of spot market sessions. At every spot market an auction is organized and both power producers and consumers participate and bid. The Nash equilibrium at each stage is computed using diagonalization algorithm. As an illustrative example, A 3 bus system is used. In [6] a transmission expansion search methodology is proposed using multiple optimization techniques. Once the optimal TEP is obtained, the costs of the included projects are evaluated considering the bargaining solution of the right of ways between investor and land owner, the asset cost and the level of effort of the corresponding agent (investor). A principle agent game where the principle is the central planner and the agent is the investor is used to model the expected utility of the game participants. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration of the chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology and ideology of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the gothic quality of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in the smaller units. He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplane to convey these larger themes, while at the same time using them to comment upon the complex relationship that exists between the Spaniards Fascists and Communists, alike and religion. ... Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality in battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin invading their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his enemy in the eye as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of modern warfare. The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged, which can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such technologies, and the influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to chivalry, become obsolete, but the people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the almost sacred element of one on one battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by replacing them with a brand of never before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies have become the new religion; they have replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as planes, and mass warfare have replaced the chivalric ideals of the medieval world. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we understand the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed entity, with a pre existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we view the subject as one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period, whether they be political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up till the 20th century has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as being independent and unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience deriving meaning and substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors. According to Descartes true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual ideas that are not essential to one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical knowledge were foregrounded, and were focused upon as the most important factors in understanding the world, consequently the individual was also emphasized as the creator of meaning. Human beings were understood as being born with great potential, and a stable, true self that if given the right to its unrestrained expression, could flourish and achieve anything. Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history. I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. The Relationship Between Hpv And Cervical Neoplasia Evidently, in the 1990s the relationship between HPV and cervical neoplasia was confirmed.[7] According to Bosch et al., the 1990s produced the key results of case control and cohort studies, and witnessed an increasing number of results on the clinical uses of HPV DNA testing in screening and triage, [24] and, as Liaw et al. (1995) noted in their case control studies, it was also becoming apparent that those with multiple HPV infections have a higher risk of developing cancer of the cervix. [26] With the changing dimension of research studies having confirmed that HPV was a necessary cause of cervical cancer, epidemiological studies advanced to associating different strains of HPV to different anogenital pathologies, categorizing different histological forms of cervical cancer in relation to HPV strains and highlighting other risk factors that may play a prominent role or catalyze the carcinogesis process. For instance, Ngelangel et al. How Tuition Fees Deter The Attendance Essay Increased enrollment and a decreased fiscal focus by governments on post secondary education has led to the ongoing inflation of tuition rates in Canada. By comparing countries with exorbitantly high tuition rates and countries with free education, the efficacy of the Canadian system can be studied. This paper will explore how tuition fees deter the attendance to university by low income and international students, and address the need to restructure our economically outdated post secondary system. Post secondary education is highly valued in Canada. Statistics Canada (2016) recorded that 64.1% of Canadians between the ages of 25 to 64 possess some form of post secondary education, a percentage that has been steadily increasing throughout the years. However, this influx in enrollment for higher education has greatly affected the way in which public institutions are funded. Historically, Canadian colleges have been funded largely through federal and provincial government grants, yet following the recession in the 1970s, funding was seriously impacted as the government was forced to focus their fiscal funding in higher priority areas (Jones, 2014). In addition, health and education were grouped together in federal allowances to the provincial government in 1995, resulting in more than 4.5 billion dollars between 1995 and 1997 (Fisher, et al, 2006). This forced provincial governments to reevaluate and reform their systems, with many provinces choosing to decrease funding to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Literary Romanticism In Wordsworth s Lyrical Ballads Literary ballads is considered the seminal inspirational work of literary romanticism in Britain. The publication of Lyrical Ballads represented a turning point for English poetry. Though the book was not originally received as a radical experiment, it was rather controversial for its time. Being released straight during the French revolution which was seen as a social experiment in itself. Coleridge encouraged Wordsworth to write a preface to Lyrical Ballads which would explain the work contained within the collection. The phrase experimental originated from Wordsworth himself and the preface gave him the opportunity to explain and defend the rather radical work to the readers. Wordsworth expressed concern on how lyrical ballads would be received by his readership. That it would not only not meet their expectations but would make them question his ability as a poet also. He knew that the poems he was writing were so intentionally experimental that his reader s reactions would be mixed I flattered myself that they who should be pleased with them would read them with more than common pleasure: and on the other hand, I was well aware that by those who should dislike them they would be read with more than common dislike. • 26. Overview of Free Trade Barriers Throughout history nations have utilized trade barriers such as tariffs and embargoes to regulate trade among other nations (Bartlett, 1998). The purpose of such trade barriers was to provide safeguards for a nation s imports and exports. The philosophy surrounding the use of trade barriers has changed from time to time with there being periods when they were used extensively and periods when they were abandoned entirely. Prior to the First World War international trade was flourishing and although tariffs were being used by a variety of nations they did little to discourage trade. During and after the War, however, trading barriers between nations put heavy burdens on international trade and by the time that the Great Depression struck world trade had reached a point of near stagnation (Madsen, 2001). The United States and Great Britain in the waning days of the Second World War recognized that a resumption of international trade was necessary in order to assist the war torn European economy. In an attempt to avoid the heavy trade barriers that were in operation prior to the War, the United States injected millions of dollars in aid in order to induce world trade. Such measures worked for a short period but a more permanent solution was necessary and there was a split of opinion on what the permanent solution should be. The attempts at reaching a solution became the source of considerable debate and as time progressed the situation became quite acrimonious. The concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Summary Of Prayer At Valley Forge The painting by Arnold Friberg Prayer at Valley Forge, shows George Washington praying for his troops during the harsh winter but does not fully allow the viewer to understand the conditions of soldiers during their stay at Valley Forge. Valley Forge is one of the most famous times during the American Revolution even though it was not a battle. At this point in the war the Americans were losing the Revolution and many soldiers were sick and dying while the others were deserting. If I would have been at Valley Forge I would have deserted, and I think given these conditions many people would choose desertion over re enlistment. Desertion will be high in the military if three conditions are met: lack of adequate shelter, lack of a proper supplies and lack of belief in the cause. Adequate shelter for soldiers will increase the willingness to stay in the army and not desert. Living in Valley Forge during the winter of 1778 meant living in huts. These huts were a rudimentary log cabin with a stick and clay fireplace, no windows and held 12 men (BACKGROUND ESSAY). Besides being cold the lack of windows caused the huts to become filled with smoke. So now the soldiers had to decide if they were going to keep a fire going with the door closed causing them to choke on the smoke, not have a fire inside, or to open the door and let the cold in.
