Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish
Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time.
Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by
instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum
sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes
however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7
massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed
against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times
the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet,
because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing
that powers plate tectonics is convection currents.
The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is
helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and
different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea
split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent
boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys.
What happens at a convergent boundary is the plates push directly against

Wheaton, Illinois is a city within the Chicago suburb. The population is 53,644 people with 91.7%
White, 3.4% Black, 3.5% Asian, 3.3% Hispanic, and 1.2% are multirace. (citydata.com) Wheaton was
originally a piece of land owned by Charles Wesley Gary and his brother Erastus. Couple of years
later, Charles s friends Jesse and Warren Wheaton set up the town in Wheaton. Eventually, Wheaton
brothers donated their unused land to Railroad Company. (Moore 12) In 1849, the village of Wheaton
is founded when the first train service stopped on the way to Galena, Illinois. Many of the new
businesses established among the train route. Due to the growth of businesses, the town had expanded
to 500 people by 1853. When the government seated Milton Township, it had moved from Naperville
to Wheaton, the village found themselves apart of a spurt growth in their economy for next hundred
years. In this community memoir, I will discuss how the railroad and government industry helped
expand the economy in Wheaton, Illinois since 1849. Due to the increase of the government seat, it
brought changes in the economic status into the town today world.
60.5% of Wheaton residents have Bachelor s degree or higher. The majority of residents are from
middle class to upper middle class with the average household income of $83,609. (citydata.com)

A Christmas Memory Short Story
Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls
blossom, Marcel Proust said. This quote suggests how being grateful for the people that you feel close
to, will make you feel happier. A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote takes place during the Great
Depression in a small Southern town. A seven year old boy named Buddy, and his friend are hit by the
Great Depression. They do not have very many possessions, only basic necessities. The holidays are
right around the corner so Buddy and his friend decide to make fruit cakes for all of their friends, even
though they do not have much. They end up not having much money to get each other something for
Christmas. In the end, they both decide that having each other is enough, and that they re both very
grateful for one other. One lesson that is taught in the story, is that often, people tend to only be
grateful for materialistic things. However, in this story they re grateful for one another. Similarly, in
the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry expresses the same theme of gratefulness through the
development of the character traits and character conflicts. Both stories show that being grateful for
the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier.
From the very beginning in both stories by Capote and Henry, gratefulness has been shown through
description of both characters, Buddy and Della. Buddy is grateful that him and his distant cousin
have become best friends. We are cousins, very distant ones, and we have lived together well, as long
as I can remember. Other people inhabit the house, relatives; and though they have power over us, and
frequently make us cry, we are not, on the whole, too much aware of them. We are each other s best
friend. She calls me Buddy, in memory of a boy who was formerly her best friend (Capote). This line
illustrates that Buddy s distant cousin has taken care of him for as long as he can remember. Buddy is
grateful that it has brought them close, they re each other s best friends. Another example of
gratefulness is shown through Dellas thoughts and feelings. She is grateful for Jim, because she
wanted to get him a nice Christmas present. As soon as she saw it, she knew

Media Influence Political System On The United States
Media influence Political System Media has influence the political system many different ways in the
United States. Talking about politics, it is very complicated because there are so many public opinions.
Not knowing which candidate is lying or passing a bill and not knowing what is on it. Because most
Americans own a smartphone, social media is so enormous and having access to almost anything.
While Americans are on the internet, watching television, and listening to the radio or even reading
the newspaper, at some point the word politics comes around and we have our own public opinions.
On the internet, when the politics news come around, people put their own opinion about campaigns,
government and activism. Statistics show, that 66% of social media users (39% of American adults)
have engaged in one of eight civic or political activities with social media: 38% of those who use
social networking sites (SNS) or Twitter like or promote material related to politics or social issues
that others have posted, 35% have used social networking sites to encourage people to vote, 34% have
used the tools to post their own thoughts or comments on political and social issues, 33% have used
the tools to repost content related to political or social issues that was originally posted by someone
else, 31% have used the tools to encourage other people to take action on a political or social issue,

The Tort Law Against Three Plaintiffs
Answer: 1 The provided fact is mainly concerned intentional tort but, in a case, also there are also
some possible element of negligence. The answer will be based on Peter s (P) probable liability under
tort law against three plaintiffs; a man (A), Matildca(M) and Sara (S). The answer will also try to
discuss P s possible defences. According to the fact it appears that P may have committed assault
against A when P took a wild swing at A. P by his obvious act made a reasonable apprehension to A
that an immediate harm may happen with P s intended action. To prove this tort, the plaintiff need to
prove that P had an intentionally made this apprehension. According to the fact, P had intention to hit
the A because A took a step toward P and A, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, according to the principle of transfer intent, intention may be possible to prove because the
principle states that the defendant will still be liable for his intentional tort even he did not have any
purpose or aim to do this. As M is injured by breaking nose and jaw, hence it is beyond doubt that
there is a harm. Considering the analysis. There is a high possibility to prove liability to M under the
tort of battery. However, P may be also liable under the tort of negligence because P had a duty not to
harm M which was breached and that breach of duty caused the M s injury. That injury would not
have happened if P did not breach his duty. The injury of M may be reasonably foreseeable because if
someone took a wild swing to attack an individual, then the injury or harm is easily predictable. By
taking account all the facts, P may be liable for both intentional tort and negligence. The third plaintiff
is S where P may be liable for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (IED) and, may be, for
negligent as well. To establish liability under IED, S has to prove that she suffered damages because
extreme distress which caused by the action of P. according to the fact, when S saw the bleeding of M,
she lose her consciousness. The element of intention may not be found because P did not do anything
directly to the S but recklessness may be found because it is

Block Nested Loop Join
1. Abstract:
The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we used
Adventure Works database to demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the block nested
loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations, for example, what
is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated for each relation, what
are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join are detailed and explored.
Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated. Further, even the available
memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while retrieving the tuples from the
relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks required for each relation are
calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are compared to determine the role of
tuples in Block Nested loop join.
2. Implementation:
For the implementation purpose, Adventure Works is used as the database and Java is used for
Programming. Net Beans is used for Java programming and

The Shadow Of The Mexican Revolution
In the Shadow of the Mexican Revolution by Hector Aquilar Camin and Lorenzo Meyer tells a
chronological story of contemporary Mexico from the fall of Porfirio Diaz in 1910 to the July
elections in 1989. The time period that Camin and Meyer portray in Mexico is one of corruption, civil
war, and failure. While Mexico would undergo an era described as the Mexican Miracle where the
Mexican country would begin to see a positive output in the country, it would be short lived and
Mexico would continue to fall behind as other countries progressed. While In the Shadow of the
Mexican Revolution is comprised of facts throughout history, one cannot help but feel a sense of
sympathy for Mexico. While their corruption, political, and economical, ... Show more content on

This new power that would rule after Diaz would be Francisco Madero. The opening chapter details
the shift from the Diaz reign over to the Madero, but it foreshadows the future of Mexico. A president
is overthrown by a leader that wants to change Mexico, but then fails to enact change and fall victim
to corruption and war. Madero is voted in as president by an overwhelming ninety eight percent of the
vote, yet as soon as he takes over the office he quickly turns his back on supporters and tries to
introduce new conservative figures into the old Diaz regime that failed to make the change he had
believed were necessary. Madero would have multiple problems with the the Mexican army and
become target for many revolution against him. With Madero s inheritance of a problematic country
he sees his reign cut short thanks to Huerta and one United States Ambassador by the name of Henry
Lane Wilson. Wilson would help overthrow Madero since he felt that Huerta would be a better ally to
the United States. But, what chapter two would entail would be the rise of those opposing Huerta. We
would soon see the rise of opposing forces in the form of Carranza, Obregon, Villa, aka the Men of the
North, and Zappata. This would be the beginning of a Mexican Civil War. While Carranza and
company would succeed in taking down Huerta there would still be unjust between the revolutionaries

the touch, but somehow I find this feeling quite amusing. A continuous shudder convulses my body as
soon as the chilling wind comes in contact with my skin, freezing me to the bone. I quickly remember
vague yet precious childhood memories. The urge of throwing a snowball, lying on the fluffy cotton
known as snow and creating a snow angel, or designing a snowman, rushes over me. Those were the
good old days, but that was years ago I am a lot older now. I finally gather up the courage to get out of
my lovely abode, and I journey into the uncharted frozen wasteland. While opening the front door, a

Descriptive Essay About Jazz
It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan
behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had
made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of
music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t
progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending.
I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were
monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise
over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959
album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz.
Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on
while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete
divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not
dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the
rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus
began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for
Saxophone for The

Essay on Ritalin and Its Effects on Children
Thesis: Today there is a great debate concerning the diagnosis and treatment of ADD/ADHD and who
has the right to decide what happens. It is estimated that between 3 and 12 percent of the population
has to deal with conditions known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention
Deficit Disorder (ADD). This equals approximately 3 million children in the United States alone. Both
of these disorders (ADD and ADHD) exhibit the same traits leading them to be lumped together.
Children affected by ADD or ADHD have behavior and emotional problems. Trouble concentrating on
simple tasks, a short attention span, failing to give attention to details, and disruptive behavior are a

However, the specific gene or genes causing them have not been found despite the completion of the
Human Genome Project. Technological advances have allowed for the discovery of new information
though.
These disorders can be acquired may different ways. One of these ways is before birth. The use of
drugs, toxemia, infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, prematurity, and complicated delivery are
all causes of this disorder originating during pregnancy and delivery. Post delivery causes include
meningitis, encephalitis, seizures from fever, head injury, and lead toxicity. All of these conditions
lead to damage to the brain (About ADD/ADHD).
ADD and ADHD can also be looked at as developmental disorders. This is because some children
seem to outgrow these conditions as they get older. These people were sometimes labeled
underachievers when they were young, and now classified late bloomers since they have outgrown
their disorders.
Many drugs have been developed to treat ADD and ADHD. One of these drugs is Methylphenidate
otherwise known as Ritalin. It is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for treatment of ADD
and ADHD. Use of Ritalin is up 700 percent since 1990 (ABC News). Other drugs also used in
treatment of ADD and ADHD include Zoloft, Praxil, and Cylert. Ritalin is a drug that is used to

International Contracts And International Sale Contracts
A conflict of laws is a major issue that usually arises in international commercial transactions.
International characters in the transaction create questions, such as which court has jurisdiction over
the case, which law is applicable to the case and will the judgment enforceable. One possible way to
avoid the risk of a conflict of laws is to harmonise laws relating to international sales into uniform law
or a convention for worldwide adoption. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the
International Sale of Goods (CISG), known as the Vienna Convention, is one of the results from the
harmonisation of international trade law. Although there are many supports to this convention, the
argument of its effectiveness still continues and some countries still not ratify.
International sale contracts are not quite similar to domestic sale contracts as the international
character cannot be found in domestic contracts. The first character is the movement of goods which
travel from one state to another state, no matter where the seller s and the buyer s places of business
are. Another character is the different places of business of both parties which means that both parties
have different legal systems. Involving with property, parties or events located in more than one
jurisdiction and the laws of those jurisdictions are different, a conflict of laws issue might arise in a
dispute between parties. The differences between laws of each country also create uncertainty in

Racial Profiling is Necessary
In order to understand racial profiling, it must first be correctly defined. Although different authors use
different criteria for the term racial profiling, Merriam Webster s definition for the word racial is of,
relating to, or based on a race (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.855). The definition the dictionary puts forth
for profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the basis of observed
characteristics or behavior (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.830). Based on these definitions, racial
profiling could be defined for criminal justice purposes as targeting a person based solely on the
characteristic of race. Most people, law enforcement officers included, would consider racial profiling
based on this definition as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He actually went as far as to lay out the groundwork for ethical color profiling. First, the profile
cannot be too broad and cannot include too many people as suspects (Corlett, 2006; p.28). Second,
ethnic background of the witnesses from whom the profiles are drawn must be taken into account ,
meaning that if someone is racist or has other negative characteristics, the account of race might be
false (Corlett, 2006; p. 28). Lastly, he argued that the same tactics must be used for everyone, no
matter race, class, et cetera (Corlett, 2006; p.29). Other authors had opinions on the topic of racial
profiling. In Crime and Policing in Rural and Small Town America, the authors bemoaned the lack of
research that has been done about race and crime in suburban and rural areas, claiming that the
research that abounds regarding urban areas is incompatible with suburban and rural areas (Weisheit,
Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). They believed that by putting more effort in to the area of race in
rural and suburban areas, it will be proven that minorities are actually underrepresented in the justice
system in rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). This argument could go further by
saying that the current research that favors the critics side of racial profiling might be inaccurate.
George M. Fredrickson s work focused on the history of racism from a historian s perspective and he
believed that any profiling based on race is wrong (Fredrickson,

Questions On Fedex Financial Performance
1. Prepare to describe in class the competition in the overnight package delivery industry, and the
strategies by which those two firms are meeting the competition. What are the enabling and inhibiting
factors facing the two firms as they pursue their goals? Do you think that either firm can attain a
sustainable competitive advantage in this business? Inhibiting factors: The main factors inhibiting
both companies are each other, both companies have attained a market dominance that is hard to
overcome by any of them. In FedEx case, their financials have been their weakest spot. FedEx poor
financial performance has been a big problem for the company, proof of this is the downgrade FedEx
bonds have had in past years. In UPS, I would say one of their inhibiting factors is their lack of
innovation. UPS has not been able to innovate and work with the technological improvements. Part of
this is due of being first in the market, UPS was founded in 1907, FedEx in 1971, FedEx has gained a
reputation of the leader in innovation and modernization, UPS as the follower. Also, UPS workers
union have represented a huge problem for them, workers union strikes have had a huge hit in the
company finances. Enabling Factors Market dominance, growing market, technology, and
globalization are enabling factors for both companies. In a more specific approach, FedEx s enabling
factors are their adaptation to modernization, being able to really take an advantage of technology.

Gender And Gender Socialisation
Socialisation is a term used to refer to the lifelong process of inheriting and disseminating norms,
customs and ideologies providing the individual with the skills and habits necessary for precipitating
within one s society, thus the means by which social and cultural continuity are attained
(Boundless.com, 2015). The process of socialisation involves an individual such as an adolescent
having interactions with various agents of socialisation. Agents of socialisation are groups or
institutions that play a crucial role in providing an individual with social and cultural skills in
accordance with the social norms and standards of the society one is located in (Brian Furze, 2014).
Socialisation contains two concepts, Primary and Secondary socialisation. Primary socialisation is a
concept that involves usually a family s influence over an individual during childhood; this process
supports one to attain essential skills necessary to function in society as a child (Brian Furze, 2014).
Secondary socialisation is a process that occurs after childhood and involves interactions with
agencies other than family such as; schools peer groups, media etc... (Brian Furze, 2014). Gender
socialisation is the process of how individuals are socialised into behaviours of the ascribed sex at
birth and is the process of socialising into gender roles (Giddens, 1993). Gender Identity involves an
individual s perception of his or hers gender which usually correlates with ascribed status such as

Rape Culture Analysis
Rape culture is the environment in which rape is common and sexual violence against women is
normalized by the media. Rape culture is promoted with the use of misogynistic language, the
objectification of women s bodies, and the glamorization of sexual violence, which creates a society
that ignores the rights and safety of women. In 2013, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams released the
summer hit Blurred Lines, which became known as a rape song. Blurred Lines is the perfect example
of how rape culture is used by the media while using misogynistic language, objectification of women
s bodies, and glamorization of sexual violence. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Blurred Lines
uses misogynistic lyrics that promotes rape culture. The first use of misogynistic language is in the
bridge of the song when Thicke sings Tried to domesticate you, But you re an animal. Thicke is
obviously comparing a girl to an animal in this lyric, but he also mentions that someone tried to
domesticate her, which means that they trained to tame which implies he owns her. The ownership of a
woman is a misogynistic way of thinking because people cannot own other people. Then in the hook

Personal Privacy or National Security
Personal Privacy or National Security

Prof. Lisa Clark

Defining National Security VS Personal Privacy is a matter of looking at the basic nature of each.
From research collected there is a consensus that we need balance. Too much of one hurts the other
and vise versa. There are a couple of articles that range from Civil Liberties to the birth of public right
to know that support the overall claim. Talks about the effects of censorship in different situations like
war and peace will help prove that a balance needs to be forged. The problem here isn t the definition
of personal vs national security, but the survival of each in light of each other. There is history in our

This kind of action is completely unnecessary and undermines our Fourth Amendment. National
security is the ability to protect our borders through homeland security while upholding the rights of
nation. Privacy when openly tampered with is distorted. Nobody acts the same knowingly being
watched. Information finds another way. There have been studies on lesser issues like workers. There
is more productivity when people think they are being watched. The same when our liberties are at
stake. What are people to do when it s done for the wrong reasons? Like when an African American
see s a sign that separates white and color bathrooms. Another would be when the Jews were forced to
where a star then live separately in their own projects. The US jokes about our nation being like
fraternity. Every new group gets picked on. The Jew s for being good with money. The Mexicans for
being illegal s and now it s the Arab s turn. But Arab s are all terrorist somehow. We have seen terror
before from the Unabomber, the KKK, and columbine shooting. How do we keep up with inflation?
The government finds one way to gather information and terrorist adapt. When civil liberties get
trampled in the process more anti American groups rise to the occasion creating more danger inside
America and out. A different example can be Adolf Hitler as a ruthless dictator and his main success
as a dictator was propaganda. It

Romanov Dynasty Case Study
There are many reasons behind the decline and fall of the Romanov Dynasty but I believe these are
the five main reasons why it occurred. The first two reasons are the socio economic struggle faced by
the Russian working class and the disappointment among Russian troops, which can be related to as
factors of the First World War. Secondly, another two reasons are the effects of failed reforms and the
role of the Siberian freak Rasputin, which can be categorised as reasons, linked to Nicholas II s
leadership. Finally, the last main reason is the mass scale and organisation of protests.
I believe that the First World War is the most significant factor in the decline and fall of the Romanov
dynasty, but in this case you could argue that either Nicholas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One massive event that occurred in 1905 was Bloody Sunday. This was a devastating event, which
occurred in Russia due to innocent people wanting justice and protection. The people wanted to reduce
the working day to eight hours. They also wanted the employers and administrators to provide medical
care in the workplace. Over these few days of protesting 1000 people were trampled on to death.
Moreover, the 1917 revolution led to Nicholas abdication. One of the main reasons for Nicholas
abdication was due to the mass amount of workers rights protests in February 1917. They grew so big
because of a series of uncoordinated strikes in the capital that immediately attacked the government
over food shortages, which gave more people a reason to protest. By 25th February 1917 over 200,000
people had protested on Petrograd streets. In 1905 protestors were divided, but in 1917 almost all were
united by their rejection of Tsarism. The Petrograd Soviet coordinated strikes and protests, making
them harder to stop because they would often occur randomly. By comparing February 1917 to 1905
you can easily figure out the reasons why protests were more successful the second time

What Is The Role Of Coal Miners In The 1930 s
their conviction, it was the striking miners who negotiated with the coal operators. Dan Moar
represented the miners and was successful in signing a temporary agreement.
5. The coal miners were paid 25 cents for, every ton of coal that they dug, hand loaded on coal cars
and pushed to the main shaft. An experienced miner who worked hard during his 10 hour shift, was
given an opportunity to earn $1.60. The collection of rocks, clay and small sized coal reduced a miner
s pay. Miners were also forced to do extra work such as laying tracks, pumping water, timbering and
clearing roof falls that were not part of the pay.
6. The living conditions of the miners were worse in comparison to their work environments. Among
many, there were only two mines that had shower facilities for its workers. The miners and their
families referred the mine houses, as hovels in comparison to the village of Bienfait as they were

Persuasive Essay On Child Labor
Powering a Generation of Change
The use of children in an industry is considered inhumane and perilous. Child labor is a phenomenon
as old as mankind. Around the world and in the United States, growing gaps between rich and poor in
at least in the 20 years forced millions of young children out of school and into work. Underage
children work at all kinds of jobs around the world, usually because they and their families are very
poor. Large numbers of children work in commercial farming, fishing, manufacturing, mining, and
domestic service. Some children work in illegal activities like the drug trade and prostitution or other
terrible and upsetting activities such as serving as soldiers ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
Child labor should be banned when negatively affecting the child s health and development.
Of an estimated 215 child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million (53%) are in Asia and
the Pacific; 14 million (7%) live in Latin America; and 65 million (30%) live in sub Saharan Africa
([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor can be found in every industry. Children have
been found gathering bananas in Ecuador, oranges in Brazil, cotton in Egypt and Russia and many
other items. In commercial farming, children are more likely to breathe in unpleasantly bug killing
chemicals and be exposed in extreme temperatures for long periods of time. They often have
inadequate food, water, and sanitation. ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
Underage children are often found in manufacturing jobs as well. Approximately 14 million children
are estimated to be directly involved in manufacturing goods. Children have been found in
manufacturing carpets in India, Pakistan, and Egypt. They also been involved in sewing soccer balls in
Pakistan. The beautiful display of fireworks is made by children in China, the Dominican Republic, El
Salvador, Guatemala, India, and Peru ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
In many countries, child labor is part of culture and anchored in traditional attitudes. Child laborers
suffer extremely high illness and injury rates in underground mines, opencast mines, and quarries.
Children as young as 6 or 7 years old break up rocks, and wash, sieve, and carry ore.

The United States nuclear weapons complex is complicated and very large. Because of this, there are
certain government agencies that help to regulate, or control, the nuclear weapons. Those agencies that

The Unnamed Wife in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Essay
The Unnamed Wife in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight the green knight s wife plays a pivotal role in the story. Yet, she is
never given a name and it is unclear what motivates her actions. She could simply be following her
husband s orders to seduce this visiting knight. She could be under the tutelage of Morgan le Fay. Or
she may be acting under her own guidance and using her sexuality to carry out her own desires or gain
power. In light of this uncertainty, the unnamed wife s role in the bedroom scene is also hard to
decipher. As a woman she should be submissive, and yet it is Gawain who is forced to defend himself
against her advances to which he eventually submits. The multiple readings of ... Show more content

She also refers to Gawain as, my captive knight . This suggests that Gawain is in the submissive
position, which is not typically how a powerful, male knight is perceived. Oddly enough, this is the
case in medieval society. The lord is the master and the knight pledges loyalty to the lord and his lady.
In this sense the knight is actually in a lower social position than the lady, and this problemitizes the
typical gender roles. For instance, Gawain must tell the wife, I am yours to command, to kiss when
you please in order to live up to the expectations of a courteous knight. His social role as a knight
causes him to submit to this cunning woman. The lady is able to exert control over Gawain while still
appearing submissive, because of Gawain s conflicting social and gender roles.
However, the gender roles and power relations between the wife and Gawain are further complicated
when considering the wife s loyalty to her husband. If she is merely following his orders and offering
her body to whom ever he commands, then she is undoubtedly submissive. Clearly the wife s actions
are in line with her husband s plans. In the end he tells Gawain, And the wooing of my wife it was all
my scheme! Despite this fact, it is uncertain wheatear the wife is forced to join

Women sometimes have a vaginal discharge with an odor or pain during intercourse or urination. A
fever with lower back pain, abdominal pain, and bleeding between periods is not uncommon in

Chlamydia is a unique STD due to the fact that it responds to antibiotics like a bacterium but also
needs a host like a virus; however, it is classified as bacteria. Chlamydia has two life cycles; it starts
out as bacteria not able to synthesis its own adenosine triphosphate (ATP) requiring the bacteria to use
a host cell to replicate (Program). The infectious portion of bacterium is called the elementary body
which bonds to columnar epithelial cells (Program). The non infectious agent of Chlamydia is
reticular bodies (RB s) which use the hosts ATP to duplicate and reorganize the elementary bodies.
This process causes death of host cell while the new EB s are released and the two process life cycle is
repeated.
Chlamydia can cause lifelong and irreversible damage to the reproductive system when left untreated.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is often seen in women with this infection because Chlamydia
bacterium attacks the cells of the cervix. Left untreated the infection can spread from the cervix to the
fallopian tubes, uterus, and sometimes the bladder, leading to PID and cystitis (inflammation of the
bladder) of the reproductive system and

he feared they would cause hazard in this future plan. Later in the play, Macbeth s own ruthlessness

Peace-Weavers In Beowulf
TITLE
Freothuwebbe (fríÞwebbe) is an Anglo Saxon word that translates as a peace weaver, woman
(Bosworth 336). Peace weavers are trafficked, in a sense, as they are women who symbolize a gift
transaction, an exchange between nations that is meant to forge unions and prevent hostilities. In the
best of situations these women became diplomats of sorts, active participants in marital arrangements
and advisors to their husbands, performing in political negotiations. On the other hand, peace weavers
can be construed as literal objects of male exchange in a society that valued warfare. Critical
interpretations of the role of peace weaver involve the sentiment that many women ultimately failed at

In some ways her role as an aristocrat and gracious hostess seems to connote a sense that her figure is
purely decorative. Surrounded by masculine language and actions, her feminine elegance certainly
stands out. In her critical study of women in Old English literature, Helen Damico (who bases her
studies primarily on similarities between Icelandic and Anglo Saxon portrayals of women) highlights
her belief that Wealtheow embodies an Anglo Saxon femininity that brings a sense of aristocratic
beauty to a place otherwise lacking it. Yet she goes on to speculate that Wealtheow is not merely a
helpless character rather, she highlights the fact that what may seem a merely decorative aspect of the
peace weaver is imbued with a sense of foreboding, of the threat of violence that underlays even the
most innocuous seeming celebration. In her foundational study Language, Sign and Gender in
Beowulf, Gillian Overing focuses on female signification into Anglo Saxon culture. She states that
since Anglo Saxon culture is war and death oriented, women are not a natural fixture of the heroic
system thus, none of the peace weavers in Beowulf are successful at the task. She asserts that the
women who function as peace weavers are either silent, are not given acknowledgement for their
work, or disappear

Essay about The Lovely Bones Movie vs Book
Peter Jackson s 2009 film, The Lovely Bones, is based off of the New York Times bestseller novel
written by Alice Sebold. Both the book and the movie adaptation tell the story of a young, 14 year old
girl named Susie Salmon who is brutally murdered by her neighbor. In both versions, Susie narrates
her story from the place between Heaven and Earth, the in between, showing the lives of her family
and friends and how each of their lives have changed since her murder. However, the film adaptation

In the novel, the murder and rape of Susie Salmon is intensively described, ...cut into pieces... blood
soaked into the soft, wet earth... leaving no question in the reader s mind as to what was happening or
might have happened (Novel, Chapters 2 3). While in the movie version of the book, the murder and
rape scene is not showed at all, only having to be assumed by showing Mr. Harvey, the murderer,
bathing with his entire bathroom covered in blood. Also, the movie doesn t mention rape at all, only
that Susie was murdered, while the book is specific in saying that she was first raped, and then
murdered (Movie). Towards the end of the movie, Susie enters the body of Ruth Connors, Ray s best
girl friend and a medium to the spirit world, while her and Ray are visiting the sink hole in their
neighborhood, and kisses Ray (Movie). In the novel, Susie actually has sex with Ray when she enters
the body of Ruth, with all details being explained explicitly. The relationship between Susie s mother
and father throughout the film adaptation of the novel was complicated, but not as complicated as the
actual novel. In the novel, after Susie s death, the fighting between the mother, Abigail, and the father,
Jack, becomes excessive and repetitive eventually leading to Abigail having an affair with the
detective of her daughter s murder case. She eventually leaves her home and family and moves to

Gould s armory of devices, and arguably one of his most famed, is his calculated use of out of text

understandable language and simple diction to convey elaborate ideas to his audience, but his most
effective tactic is his connecting of the topic to commonly known events or concepts relevant to the
essay. For example, in Flaws in a Victorian Veil, Gould parallels the belief that races need to be
separated due to their inferiority, with the famed court case Plessy vs. Ferguson ruling of separate but
equal . By including this connection, Gould demonstrates to the audience that even though this idea is
now widely unaccepted, there was a legitimate legal ruling which ratified this idea regardless of its
ridiculousness. However, following this statement Gould brings the reader into a deeper understanding
of the situation as he includes the subsequent court ruling of Brown vs. the Topeka Board of
Education, which stated that a group in power always conflates separation with superiority . By giving
this additional connection, Gould connects the audience with the true underlying reasoning behind the
ideology of genetic inferiority,

A Report On The Car Travel
Introduction
Private vehicles are at the forefront of the growing epidemic regarding carbon pollution and climate
change. (Click) In Australia, cars accounted for 48% of transport emissions in 2013 (Trends in
transport greenhouse gas emissions, 2013). However to combat this issue, many cities around the
world have actively discouraged the use of private motor vehicles when travelling in and around the
city. They aim to reduce the prevalence of cars through the promotion of bicycles, walking and public
transport. In Europe, two cities have successfully implemented strategies and campaigns to increase
the amount of bicycle travel in and around the cities centre, these are Copenhagen and Houten. The
aim of this presentation is to investigate cities where car travel has been discouraged and hence
decreased and if and how these strategies can be adopted in Brisbane.
Brisbane
Brisbane is the third most populous city in Australia and capital of Queensland accommodating over
2.3 million people, thus it serves as an excellent basis to introduce a regime targeting at reduced
carbon emissions through a decrease in car use. In Brisbane it is evident that driving to work, school
and for leisure activities is the primary form of transport among adults. As evident by this map...

this long. Nobody remembers you, and nobody knows who you are other than an old mare s tale.
Nightmare Moon gritted her teeth. She was literally dripping away. It won t be long until she
completely disappears from existence.
Fine then, but don t say I didn t warn you. She retreated far back into the dark recesses of her

The United Parcel Service
In supply chain management there is a million in one ways a company can approach its warehouses,
suppliers, and stores utilizing different strategies to ensure they are distributing the right amount of
merchandise. Failure to deliver the right amount of merchandise at the right time could lead to the
supply chain management losing tons of money over wrongly timed delivered items.
In my personnel opinion, I think that the United Parcel Service (UPS) is the best company for when it
comes to effectively competing in today s market. The United Parcel Service delivers almost
worldwide and its rates for shipping packages are very competitive. In the United States you can
almost purchase something from any website and it could be delivered to you

The Importance Of Hate Speech And Hate Groups
The First Amendment has brought up debates over the years, which most recently have centered
around hate speech and hate groups. Congress and state governments can make no law that takes away
the freedom of speech. However, some people feel that hate speech and hate groups violate their civil
liberties. A hate group is an organization whose goals are based on the hatred of a specific group(s) of
people, and the group must have a hate based purpose. Hate speech is speech that threatens, offends,
or insults members of a group(s). All Americans have rights and liberties of their own, and wish they
are not infringed by others. Despite people believing hate groups should not have the right to free
speech if it is hate speech, the US Supreme Court has ruled that hate groups are protected under the
First Amendment. Throughout the history of the United States, many hate groups have emerged.
Today, the oldest hate group, and the most well known, is the Ku Klux Klan. It was formed in 1865,
and it soon turned into a strong, violent organization. Hundreds of other hate groups have been
organized and remain active today. Most hate groups in the United States are anti black, variations of
the KKK, anti Muslim, general hate, white nationalist, or Neo Nazi s . Hate groups have been
involved in many criminal suits, including Brandenburg v. Ohio, National Socialist Party v. Skokie,
Snyder v. Phelps, and, most recently, Matal v. Tam. All four of these cases further the idea that hate
speech is protected under the First Amendment. To begin with, the ruling in Brandenburg v. Ohio
developed an important test to decide what speech can be prohibited, which makes this case
significant. Brandenburg v. Ohio was a case in 1969 over a law in Ohio that criminalized advocating
various illegal activities that put Brandenburg, a KKK leader in prison. The US Supreme Court took
on this case and declared that Ohio s law violated the First, and Fourteenth, Amendments. The
resulting test is known as the Brandenburg incitement test which allows speech to be regulated if it is
directed to and likely to cause imminent violent act . Ohio s law made the advocacy illegal, but it did
not take into part whether or not the speech incited lawless

Anthropomorphism In Literature
The use of anthropomorphism makes the characters of any book more believable for children.
Using anthropomorphism in children s literature brings in an element of discovery for the child. The
child is able to make connections in early childhood to animals with human traits as believable
characteristics. Anthropomorphism could be used as building blocks for older children. Literature
based upon more vivid and believable animal characters could cause the child to easily identify with
the character, while allowing their imagination to take them into the story.
Anthropomorphism is a healthy way for children to be introduced to difficult plots and emotional
characteristics that real human beings encounter. Although some interpretations of anthropomorphic
animal use in books are negative because the fear that animals in reality do not have human
characteristics, and thus confuse the child reader. Others offer the view that in order to fully
understand ourselves, anthropomorphism is the key to a child s development of imagination. Bringing
in the element of believable characters makes a story based upon the child s needs and creates a
lifelong love of books. (Bettelheim) discusses briefly the use of animals as characters but I would like
to expand on his idea and discuss the fantasy side that uses anthropomorphism. Bettleheim discusses
the ability for fantasy to connect with the child of today. In our technological focused society some
children may feel a lack of of

total capacity from 16 pumps would be running together with 4800 tons an hour. were supposed to be

disaster were 1500 people died, 700 of whom were women and children.

How to Brief a Case
HOW TO BRIEF A CASE Below I have sketched in the beginnings of a brief as a format. This time
honored method of analysis is the basic unit of law school instruction and so most judicial opinions
are written to conform to this approach. Knowing the rules makes watching the game so much more
interesting. Start with the name of the Case which is called the style of the case. PERLA GRAFF v.
JAY L. GRAFF, 569 So. 2d 811, Fla. 1st Dist. Ct. App. (1990). First is the case name, followed by the
citation which tells where you can find the hard copy of this case. This particular case is found in
Volume 569 of the Southern Reporter, Second Series at page 811 in an opinion written by the First
District Court of Appeals for Florida in 1990. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the court must then, pursuant to Sect. 61.075 divide the equitable value of the property equally,
unless there is reason to do otherwise. In this case, the Former Husband attempted to argue the asset
should still be treated differently because he only placed the Former Wife s name on the title in the
event of his demise. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still entitles the Former Wife
to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the asset was based on the joint
efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings the court looked at the facts the
parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage payments and the parties used marital
monies to add a pool and replace the roof. Thus equity required that the increased value of the marital
home be treated as a marital asset subject to equal

Marika-Alderton House Analysis
Glenn Murcutt, Pritzker Architecture Prize winning architect, designed the Marika Alderton House for
Aboriginal leader Banduk Marika and her husband. The Marika Alderton House sits in North Australia
in Yirrkala, an indigenous community in Arnhem Land on a landscape facing a beach on the gulf of
Carpentaria. The house links back to Aboriginal huts while focusing on the extremities of the weather
in the surrounding environment. The house was seen as a link between Aboriginal and White
Australia, bridging cultures with architecture that was uniquely Australian. Murcutt designed the
house around the site, the views and the climate. His design is simple and works harmoniously with
the land to create a home for the community.

Occupying one of these buildings is like sailing a yacht; you modify and manipulate its form and skin
according to seasonal conditions and natural elements, and work with these to maximize the
performance of the building. Murcutt s challenge for the Marika Alderton house was to create a home
that could withstand the wet and dry seasons of the Yirrkala area. The house is divided allowing for
use throughout the whole year. The main living area is located on the east side of the house to allow
for ventilation during the day, while the bedrooms are too the west which are coolest at night. The
building was designed to use affordable and local materials; hence the structure is skeleton like made
with solid steel to survive the extreme weather. The stability is achieved through the length of the
house. The eaves overhang to prevent direct sunlight from entering the house. Murcutt calculated the
angle of the sun and designed the eaves to drop far enough to provide shade all year, as there is no
cold climate. The house opens out on every side to provide ventilation throughout, together with the
shutters allows air to be channeled through the house. The low pressure of the hot air causes it to rise,
pulling the cool air in. The house was designed to sit on stilts. This is to keep various species of
reptiles and spiders from entering the house, protects it from flooding and again for cooling purposes.
The stilts allow for the house to have little impact on the surrounding native

Huey Lewis Musical Career
Hugh Anthony Cregg III, better known by his stage name of Huey Lewis was born in New York City
in 1950. He is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Huey Lewis is perhaps best known as the
leader of of Huey Lewis The News, one of the most popular musical groups of 1980s. Apart from
singing he is also known as an actor who has appeared in movies like Duets with Gweneth Paltrow,

occupation. Lewis grew up in Marin County, California. His father was a jazz drummer and
radiologist, and his mother, a commercial artist. He was only 13 years old when his parents broke up .
He attended and in 1967 graduated from New Jersey s Lawrenceville School. Lewis was a talented
student and for his genius/charisma got an admission to the Cornell University, New York. However
,he took a pause and traveled across USA, focusing mostly on improvement of his musical skills.
When Huey Lewis came back, he continued his education. Unfortunately his passion for learning
disappeared and he left university by devoting himself to music. ... Show more content on

Jerry Hendrickson Research Paper
When I first met Jerry Hendrickson, I thought he was pretty outgoing. I was sitting with my friend,
Maddie, at a table in the corner of the dining room at Morningside of Branson Meadows. He was
laughing already, which made me think he was a jokester. We were instantly able to hit it off because
he was really easy to talk to, which made asking questions and actually connecting with him a lot
easier.
He started off by telling us about his childhood, which was rough, but he did not let that tear down his
spirit. Which is something I look up to because I have dealt with similar situations with my family. He
was born in 1931 and lived with his mom, dad, and sister. He had two brothers as well, but they did
not live with him, instead they lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was only sixteen so he had to fake his birth certificate so he could enlist. While in the Navy, Jerry
got a lot of education he never got when he lived with his parents, and got a lot of training. He went to
military and contractor schools, which helped him learn a lot, but that was not enough for young Jerry.
Jerry was a Petty Officer 2nd Class and an aircraft engine mechanic while in the Navy. Three months
before his three year contract ended with the Navy, the Korean War began, so Jerry could not be
discharged. This led to him reenlisting in the Navy for another six years. After the time he served in
the Navy, someone suggested he go to the Air Force. His brother suggested he go to San Antonio,
Texas. While in the Air force, Jerry was in the tech services for five years, and he also was very
interested in airplanes. He served in the Air Force for eleven years, and then retired at the age of 36 as
a Senior Master Sergeant.. Which is pretty impressive I think because he explained to us that a Senior
Master Sergeant as being a higher rank than Master Sergeant, but not the highest rank one can receive.
A Senior Master Sergeant is the fourth Non Commissioned Officer rank in the Air

 • 2. Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time. Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7 massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet, because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing that powers plate tectonics is convection currents. The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys. What happens at a convergent boundary is the plates push directly against ... Couple of years later, Charles s friends Jesse and Warren Wheaton set up the town in Wheaton. Eventually, Wheaton brothers donated their unused land to Railroad Company. (Moore 12) In 1849, the village of Wheaton is founded when the first train service stopped on the way to Galena, Illinois. Many of the new businesses established among the train route. Due to the growth of businesses, the town had expanded to 500 people by 1853. When the government seated Milton Township, it had moved from Naperville to Wheaton, the village found themselves apart of a spurt growth in their economy for next hundred years. In this community memoir, I will discuss how the railroad and government industry helped expand the economy in Wheaton, Illinois since 1849. Due to the increase of the government seat, it brought changes in the economic status into the town today world. 60.5% of Wheaton residents have Bachelor s degree or higher. The majority of residents are from middle class to upper middle class with the average household income of $83,609. (citydata.com) Politics is heavily found in the City of Wheaton. • 4. A Christmas Memory Short Story Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom, Marcel Proust said. This quote suggests how being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote takes place during the Great Depression in a small Southern town. A seven year old boy named Buddy, and his friend are hit by the Great Depression. They do not have very many possessions, only basic necessities. The holidays are right around the corner so Buddy and his friend decide to make fruit cakes for all of their friends, even though they do not have much. They end up not having much money to get each other something for Christmas. In the end, they both decide that having each other is enough, and that they re both very grateful for one other. One lesson that is taught in the story, is that often, people tend to only be grateful for materialistic things. However, in this story they re grateful for one another. Similarly, in the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry expresses the same theme of gratefulness through the development of the character traits and character conflicts. Both stories show that being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. From the very beginning in both stories by Capote and Henry, gratefulness has been shown through description of both characters, Buddy and Della. Buddy is grateful that him and his distant cousin have become best friends. We are cousins, very distant ones, and we have lived together well, as long as I can remember. Other people inhabit the house, relatives; and though they have power over us, and frequently make us cry, we are not, on the whole, too much aware of them. We are each other s best friend. She calls me Buddy, in memory of a boy who was formerly her best friend (Capote). This line illustrates that Buddy s distant cousin has taken care of him for as long as he can remember. Buddy is grateful that it has brought them close, they re each other s best friends. Another example of gratefulness is shown through Dellas thoughts and feelings. She is grateful for Jim, because she wanted to get him a nice Christmas present. As soon as she saw it, she knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Talking about politics, it is very complicated because there are so many public opinions. Not knowing which candidate is lying or passing a bill and not knowing what is on it. Because most Americans own a smartphone, social media is so enormous and having access to almost anything. While Americans are on the internet, watching television, and listening to the radio or even reading the newspaper, at some point the word politics comes around and we have our own public opinions. On the internet, when the politics news come around, people put their own opinion about campaigns, government and activism. Statistics show, that 66% of social media users (39% of American adults) have engaged in one of eight civic or political activities with social media: 38% of those who use social networking sites (SNS) or Twitter like or promote material related to politics or social issues that others have posted, 35% have used social networking sites to encourage people to vote, 34% have used the tools to post their own thoughts or comments on political and social issues, 33% have used the tools to repost content related to political or social issues that was originally posted by someone else, 31% have used the tools to encourage other people to take action on a political or social issue, 28% have used the tools to post links to political stories or articles for others to read, ... • 6. The Tort Law Against Three Plaintiffs Answer: 1 The provided fact is mainly concerned intentional tort but, in a case, also there are also some possible element of negligence. The answer will be based on Peter s (P) probable liability under tort law against three plaintiffs; a man (A), Matildca(M) and Sara (S). The answer will also try to discuss P s possible defences. According to the fact it appears that P may have committed assault against A when P took a wild swing at A. P by his obvious act made a reasonable apprehension to A that an immediate harm may happen with P s intended action. To prove this tort, the plaintiff need to prove that P had an intentionally made this apprehension. According to the fact, P had intention to hit the A because A took a step toward P and A, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, according to the principle of transfer intent, intention may be possible to prove because the principle states that the defendant will still be liable for his intentional tort even he did not have any purpose or aim to do this. As M is injured by breaking nose and jaw, hence it is beyond doubt that there is a harm. Considering the analysis. There is a high possibility to prove liability to M under the tort of battery. However, P may be also liable under the tort of negligence because P had a duty not to harm M which was breached and that breach of duty caused the M s injury. That injury would not have happened if P did not breach his duty. The injury of M may be reasonably foreseeable because if someone took a wild swing to attack an individual, then the injury or harm is easily predictable. By taking account all the facts, P may be liable for both intentional tort and negligence. The third plaintiff is S where P may be liable for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (IED) and, may be, for negligent as well. To establish liability under IED, S has to prove that she suffered damages because extreme distress which caused by the action of P. according to the fact, when S saw the bleeding of M, she lose her consciousness. Abstract: The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we used Adventure Works database to demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the block nested loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations, for example, what is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated for each relation, what are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join are detailed and explored. Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated. Further, even the available memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while retrieving the tuples from the relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks required for each relation are calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are compared to determine the role of tuples in Block Nested loop join. 2. Implementation: For the implementation purpose, Adventure Works is used as the database and Java is used for Programming. Net Beans is used for Java programming and ... The Shadow Of The Mexican Revolution In the Shadow of the Mexican Revolution by Hector Aquilar Camin and Lorenzo Meyer tells a chronological story of contemporary Mexico from the fall of Porfirio Diaz in 1910 to the July elections in 1989. The time period that Camin and Meyer portray in Mexico is one of corruption, civil war, and failure. While Mexico would undergo an era described as the Mexican Miracle where the Mexican country would begin to see a positive output in the country, it would be short lived and Mexico would continue to fall behind as other countries progressed. While In the Shadow of the Mexican Revolution is comprised of facts throughout history, one cannot help but feel a sense of sympathy for Mexico. While their corruption, political, and economical, ... Madero is voted in as president by an overwhelming ninety eight percent of the vote, yet as soon as he takes over the office he quickly turns his back on supporters and tries to introduce new conservative figures into the old Diaz regime that failed to make the change he had believed were necessary. Madero would have multiple problems with the the Mexican army and become target for many revolution against him. With Madero s inheritance of a problematic country he sees his reign cut short thanks to Huerta and one United States Ambassador by the name of Henry Lane Wilson. Wilson would help overthrow Madero since he felt that Huerta would be a better ally to the United States. But, what chapter two would entail would be the rise of those opposing Huerta. We would soon see the rise of opposing forces in the form of Carranza, Obregon, Villa, aka the Men of the North, and Zappata. This would be the beginning of a Mexican Civil War. • 12. Descriptive Essay About Jazz It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending. I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959 album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz. Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for Saxophone for The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is estimated that between 3 and 12 percent of the population has to deal with conditions known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This equals approximately 3 million children in the United States alone. Both of these disorders (ADD and ADHD) exhibit the same traits leading them to be lumped together. Technological advances have allowed for the discovery of new information though. These disorders can be acquired may different ways. One of these ways is before birth. The use of drugs, toxemia, infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, prematurity, and complicated delivery are all causes of this disorder originating during pregnancy and delivery. Post delivery causes include meningitis, encephalitis, seizures from fever, head injury, and lead toxicity. All of these conditions lead to damage to the brain (About ADD/ADHD). ADD and ADHD can also be looked at as developmental disorders. This is because some children seem to outgrow these conditions as they get older. These people were sometimes labeled underachievers when they were young, and now classified late bloomers since they have outgrown their disorders. Many drugs have been developed to treat ADD and ADHD. One of these drugs is Methylphenidate otherwise known as Ritalin. It is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for treatment of ADD and ADHD. Use of Ritalin is up 700 percent since 1990 (ABC News). Other drugs also used in treatment of ADD and ADHD include Zoloft, Praxil, and Cylert. • 16. International Contracts And International Sale Contracts A conflict of laws is a major issue that usually arises in international commercial transactions. International characters in the transaction create questions, such as which court has jurisdiction over the case, which law is applicable to the case and will the judgment enforceable. One possible way to avoid the risk of a conflict of laws is to harmonise laws relating to international sales into uniform law or a convention for worldwide adoption. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), known as the Vienna Convention, is one of the results from the harmonisation of international trade law. Although there are many supports to this convention, the argument of its effectiveness still continues and some countries still not ratify. International sale contracts are not quite similar to domestic sale contracts as the international character cannot be found in domestic contracts. The first character is the movement of goods which travel from one state to another state, no matter where the seller s and the buyer s places of business are. Another character is the different places of business of both parties which means that both parties have different legal systems. Involving with property, parties or events located in more than one jurisdiction and the laws of those jurisdictions are different, a conflict of laws issue might arise in a dispute between parties. The differences between laws of each country also create uncertainty in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 18. Racial Profiling is Necessary In order to understand racial profiling, it must first be correctly defined. Although different authors use different criteria for the term racial profiling, Merriam Webster s definition for the word racial is of, relating to, or based on a race (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.855). The definition the dictionary puts forth for profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the basis of observed characteristics or behavior (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.830). Second, ethnic background of the witnesses from whom the profiles are drawn must be taken into account , meaning that if someone is racist or has other negative characteristics, the account of race might be false (Corlett, 2006; p. 28). Lastly, he argued that the same tactics must be used for everyone, no matter race, class, et cetera (Corlett, 2006; p.29). Other authors had opinions on the topic of racial profiling. In Crime and Policing in Rural and Small Town America, the authors bemoaned the lack of research that has been done about race and crime in suburban and rural areas, claiming that the research that abounds regarding urban areas is incompatible with suburban and rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). They believed that by putting more effort in to the area of race in rural and suburban areas, it will be proven that minorities are actually underrepresented in the justice system in rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). This argument could go further by saying that the current research that favors the critics side of racial profiling might be inaccurate. George M. Prepare to describe in class the competition in the overnight package delivery industry, and the strategies by which those two firms are meeting the competition. What are the enabling and inhibiting factors facing the two firms as they pursue their goals? Do you think that either firm can attain a sustainable competitive advantage in this business? Inhibiting factors: The main factors inhibiting both companies are each other, both companies have attained a market dominance that is hard to overcome by any of them. In FedEx case, their financials have been their weakest spot. FedEx poor financial performance has been a big problem for the company, proof of this is the downgrade FedEx bonds have had in past years. In UPS, I would say one of their inhibiting factors is their lack of innovation. UPS has not been able to innovate and work with the technological improvements. Part of this is due of being first in the market, UPS was founded in 1907, FedEx in 1971, FedEx has gained a reputation of the leader in innovation and modernization, UPS as the follower. Also, UPS workers union have represented a huge problem for them, workers union strikes have had a huge hit in the company finances. Enabling Factors Market dominance, growing market, technology, and globalization are enabling factors for both companies. Gender And Gender Socialisation Socialisation is a term used to refer to the lifelong process of inheriting and disseminating norms, customs and ideologies providing the individual with the skills and habits necessary for precipitating within one s society, thus the means by which social and cultural continuity are attained (Boundless.com, 2015). The process of socialisation involves an individual such as an adolescent having interactions with various agents of socialisation. Agents of socialisation are groups or institutions that play a crucial role in providing an individual with social and cultural skills in accordance with the social norms and standards of the society one is located in (Brian Furze, 2014). Rape culture is promoted with the use of misogynistic language, the objectification of women s bodies, and the glamorization of sexual violence, which creates a society that ignores the rights and safety of women. In 2013, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams released the summer hit Blurred Lines, which became known as a rape song. Blurred Lines is the perfect example of how rape culture is used by the media while using misogynistic language, objectification of women s bodies, and glamorization of sexual violence. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Blurred Lines uses misogynistic lyrics that promotes rape culture. The first use of misogynistic language is in the bridge of the song when Thicke sings Tried to domesticate you, But you re an animal. Thicke is obviously comparing a girl to an animal in this lyric, but he also mentions that someone tried to domesticate her, which means that they trained to tame which implies he owns her. The ownership of a woman is a misogynistic way of thinking because people cannot own other people. Then in the hook of the song Thicke calls the girl a Good girl, which is very condescending because it sounds like he is speaking down to her. This suggest that he is superior to her and is asserting his male dominance. In the second verse of the song Thicke sings You the hottest bitch in this place, which is a ... Moreover, the 1917 revolution led to Nicholas abdication. One of the main reasons for Nicholas abdication was due to the mass amount of workers rights protests in February 1917. Around the world and in the United States, growing gaps between rich and poor in at least in the 20 years forced millions of young children out of school and into work. Underage children work at all kinds of jobs around the world, usually because they and their families are very poor. Large numbers of children work in commercial farming, fishing, manufacturing, mining, and domestic service. Some children work in illegal activities like the drug trade and prostitution or other terrible and upsetting activities such as serving as soldiers ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor should be banned when negatively affecting the child s health and development. Of an estimated 215 child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million (53%) are in Asia and the Pacific; 14 million (7%) live in Latin America; and 65 million (30%) live in sub Saharan Africa ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor can be found in every industry. Children have been found gathering bananas in Ecuador, oranges in Brazil, cotton in Egypt and Russia and many other items. In commercial farming, children are more likely to breathe in unpleasantly bug killing chemicals and be exposed in extreme temperatures for long periods of time. (Click) In Australia, cars accounted for 48% of transport emissions in 2013 (Trends in transport greenhouse gas emissions, 2013). However to combat this issue, many cities around the world have actively discouraged the use of private motor vehicles when travelling in and around the city. In Europe, two cities have successfully implemented strategies and campaigns to increase the amount of bicycle travel in and around the cities centre, these are Copenhagen and Houten. The aim of this presentation is to investigate cities where car travel has been discouraged and hence decreased and if and how these strategies can be adopted in Brisbane. • 43. The Importance Of Hate Speech And Hate Groups The First Amendment has brought up debates over the years, which most recently have centered around hate speech and hate groups. Congress and state governments can make no law that takes away the freedom of speech. However, some people feel that hate speech and hate groups violate their civil liberties. A hate group is an organization whose goals are based on the hatred of a specific group(s) of people, and the group must have a hate based purpose. Hate speech is speech that threatens, offends, or insults members of a group(s). All Americans have rights and liberties of their own, and wish they are not infringed by others. Despite people believing hate groups should not have the right to free speech if it is hate speech, the US Supreme Court has ruled that hate groups are protected under the First Amendment. Throughout the history of the United States, many hate groups have emerged. Today, the oldest hate group, and the most well known, is the Ku Klux Klan. It was formed in 1865, and it soon turned into a strong, violent organization. Hundreds of other hate groups have been organized and remain active today. Most hate groups in the United States are anti black, variations of the KKK, anti Muslim, general hate, white nationalist, or Neo Nazi s . Hate groups have been involved in many criminal suits, including Brandenburg v. Ohio, National Socialist Party v. Skokie, Snyder v. Phelps, and, most recently, Matal v. Tam. All four of these cases further the idea that hate speech is protected under the First Amendment. To begin with, the ruling in Brandenburg v. Ohio developed an important test to decide what speech can be prohibited, which makes this case significant. Brandenburg v. Ohio was a case in 1969 over a law in Ohio that criminalized advocating various illegal activities that put Brandenburg, a KKK leader in prison. The US Supreme Court took on this case and declared that Ohio s law violated the First, and Fourteenth, Amendments. The resulting test is known as the Brandenburg incitement test which allows speech to be regulated if it is directed to and likely to cause imminent violent act . Ohio s law made the advocacy illegal, but it did not take into part whether or not the speech incited lawless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 44. Anthropomorphism In Literature The use of anthropomorphism makes the characters of any book more believable for children. Using anthropomorphism in children s literature brings in an element of discovery for the child. The child is able to make connections in early childhood to animals with human traits as believable characteristics. Anthropomorphism could be used as building blocks for older children. Literature based upon more vivid and believable animal characters could cause the child to easily identify with the character, while allowing their imagination to take them into the story. Anthropomorphism is a healthy way for children to be introduced to difficult plots and emotional characteristics that real human beings encounter. Although some interpretations of anthropomorphic animal use in books are negative because the fear that animals in reality do not have human characteristics, and thus confuse the child reader. Others offer the view that in order to fully understand ourselves, anthropomorphism is the key to a child s development of imagination. Bringing in the element of believable characters makes a story based upon the child s needs and creates a lifelong love of books. (Bettelheim) discusses briefly the use of animals as characters but I would like to expand on his idea and discuss the fantasy side that uses anthropomorphism. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still entitles the Former Wife to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the asset was based on the joint efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings the court looked at the facts the parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage payments and the parties used marital monies to add a pool and replace the roof. The house links back to Aboriginal huts while focusing on the extremities of the weather in the surrounding environment. The house is divided allowing for use throughout the whole year. The main living area is located on the east side of the house to allow for ventilation during the day, while the bedrooms are too the west which are coolest at night. The building was designed to use affordable and local materials; hence the structure is skeleton like made with solid steel to survive the extreme weather. The stability is achieved through the length of the house. The eaves overhang to prevent direct sunlight from entering the house. Murcutt calculated the angle of the sun and designed the eaves to drop far enough to provide shade all year, as there is no cold climate. The house opens out on every side to provide ventilation throughout, together with the shutters allows air to be channeled through the house. The low pressure of the hot air causes it to rise, pulling the cool air in. The house was designed to sit on stilts.
