Action Sports and Television Essay
Action Sports and Television Actions sports have always been interesting to me. The way the
athletes perform their tricks, how judges score them, and how the camera operators keep up with
such a fast paced competition. The more I thought of my interest in this subject, the more I wanted
to know. The growth of action sports on televisionfollows the same pattern of any other type of
show genre in its early stages. Documentaries, themed shows or movies, and especially the
coverage on live television would be good places to start looking into. The impact on cable
television and sports channels could further delve into other questions that comes to mind, like how
the public viewed them. When did corporate sponsorships begin to move the... Show more content

An example being, as skis were manufactured lighter yet still retaining their durability, people
began to push their limitations based on the limitations of the equipment. Many people give credit
to people considered pioneers of action sports. Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, Travis
Pastrana are just a few heavyweight title holders for defining what extreme sports are as well as
helping to stimulate their popularity in the public eye. Television coverage of competitions has
brought extreme sports and their participants more attention as well. The X Games and the
Olympics are only two of many examples. Sponsorships play a huge role in any television
programming. When shows of early television aired, they had live performances of a company s
jingle ( Vitameatavegamin episode of I Love Lucy) and even demonstrations of exactly what it
was supposed to do for the average american viewer. Cigarette ads were one of the most common,
like before one the episodes of I Love Lucy we watched in class where the stick figure versions
of Lucy and Desi were standing next to a large box of cigarettes and smoking one themselves.
Sponsorships by tobacco companies are not around anymore on television. Companies controlling
all aspects of a show are long gone and
corporate sponsorships are seen plastered all over anything a company can get their hands on
during air time for action sports. Everything from billboards to the bearings

Truth And Truth In Dawn By Elie Wiesel
History is written by the victors. Winston Churchill. The depth of this statement is almost like an
abyss, unending and unknown. It holds plethoras of secrets and has no rival to match its ability. No
other single entity within this world has the ability to change and morph truth. What is written by
the victors is the truthtold, and in most cases, a stretched truth can become actual fact. But, while
the victors may be able to write the world s past, they will never be able to write individual truth
and perspective. The most complex stories the world will ever know lie are seen through each
pair of eyes. Each human has their own story, perspective, and truth that only they will be able
know. Each unique individual has the ability to write their own past and personal set of beliefs.
And most importantly, each person chooses what they fight for. All of this comes together to
create the complexity hidden within the book Dawn by Elie Wiesel. His main character, Elijah, is
apart of a revolutionary force in Palestine fighting for the freedom of his people. To him and his
comrades, they are the patriots, the freedom fighters, the light to their people, but to the British,
their captors, they are a disease in the world, blight to the crops, and most importantly terrorists.
While these two perspectives are clashing on the battlefield fighting for the right to the land of
Palestine they are also fighting to write history. Even more than on the battlefield, the

The Political Governance System And Demographics Of The...
The political governance system and demographics of the City of Plantation According to the
2013 census, the population of the city of Plantation was 85,496, of which there were 37,587
households. In these households or families, 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with
them while 52.% were married couples living together, and 11.2% had a female householder
with no husband present. The census further explains that 33.2% were non families and 25.8% of
all households in the city were made up of individuals. The census further explains that 8.5% had
someone living alone that was 65 years of age or older and have an average household size of
2.48 with a family size of 3.02. On the other hand, its political leadership style of Government is a
strong Mayor and five elected Council Members. In this City, English is considered the
predominant language spoken, which constitutes 78.00% of the population, while Spanish is
13.00%, French Creole 2.24%, and French speakers 1.30% (City of Plantation History, 2013).
Recent developments that make this topic important, interesting or urgent According to Carrigan
(2011), civil servants have a reputation for being lazy, but the public s perception of them frequently
runs counter to this stereotype. Hence, the writer developed a model of an economy in which
workers differ in laziness in public service motivation, and characterized optimal incentive contracts
for public sector workers under different informational assumptions.

Personal Narrative-Willy Wonka s Chocolate
The fluorescent lights bounced off the clear plastic of the cake tin. I smile looking at the soft
buttercream swirls on the top of the delicious treat.. Slowly I unhinge the cake s cove hearing the
soft snaps of the plastic separating from the base. Pop, pop, pop the top comes off. As I release the
cakefrom the covering an overwhelming scent of chocolate fills the air. It was as if I had just
opened the door to the Willy Wonka s chocolate factory. I look down at the cake to see the
smooth brown buttercream spread in an even layer all across the top and sides of the cake, The
drips of hardened dark chocolate flowing down the sides of the cake. Each slice is marked out

The Demon Lover And Frankenstein
Gothic literature combines a lot of the factors that people now a day love to watch or read. Gothic
literature is one of the most famous type of literature in novels today. In the 19th century the
beginning of a famous monster character such as Frankenstein was developed. It was in the novel
written by Mary Shelley. This attracted a lot of people s attention into gothic literature. Another
gothic literature novelwas The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen. Both these novels have a lot of
comparison in gothic literature and with the main characters in each novel.
In both these novels there is a lot of comparisons to be made. Both these books are made to be
gothic and have all the elements of being gothic. One of the big comparisons in these novels

O Connor s `` A Good Man Is Hard For Find `` And ``...
Flannery O Connor was a devout catholic whose writing was a reflection of the violence in the
temporal world. O Connor suffered with lupus which had a grave impact on her life, but that didn
t stop her from publishing many stories that achieved awards. O Connor s stories, A Good Man Is
Hard to Find and Good Country People are two examples of the talented womans works that gained
popularity over the years. Through analyzing these short stories, one could insinuate that there are
many commonalities between the setting, characters, and themes of these stories.
In A Good ManIs Hard to Find, O Connor immediately introduces an older woman who was
completely against taking a family trip to Florida. Instead she was determined to redirect their trip
toward Tennessee. O Connor includes brief details of the woman that could lead the reader to
believe that she isn t completely sane. For example, as the old lady gets into the car, she was
hiding a basket with Pitty Sing, the cat, in it, (612). Fearing that the cat would miss her too
much. The woman also overdressed herself to the point where she was completely gaudy in case
of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady,
(612). These silly characteristics create a witty scene for the road trip.
Along the way, the family stops to grab some food at a barbecue joint and the grandmother
discusses the unlikelihood of finding a trustworthy man during such a time with the owner of

Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And Atonement
This essay looks at The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Atonement written by Ian
McEwan, and their film adaptations, The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrman and
Atonement directed by Joe Wright. Many film directors that decide to adapt a novel to a film
often change the essence and core message of the original work of the author. According to Paulo
Coelho, the reader has a certain perception about the characters, scenes, and details of the novel.
But when the reader goes to watch the film adaptation, all these perceptions and views are ruined
and the reader often ends up leaving the film feeling disappointed. However, I do not agree that
Joe Wright and Baz Luhrman changed the message of the two novels. To a large extent, I was not
disappointed by the film adaptations of The Great Gatsbyand Atonement. I believe that both film
directors have stayed loyal and faithful to the novel, they did not change my opinion on how I

cannot move forward. We also get an image of an area filled with dirt, thick air and poverty. In
the film, we see details of this unpleasant place, and we get an image of the type of people who
live there. In the film we immediately see that this farm is a symbol of the failure of the American

(Boggs, Petrie, 2008) For them to create objects they first start with a blank screen and then they
set the scale of the computer to coordinate with the system for that element. The scale size
usually is anything from microns to light years across in size which are important and should be
consistent with all the elements in the project so the layers of lines are built up to the patches and
that creates the model that defines the shape of the object. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) The modeler
contains the power of design; which the animator provides the illusion of life. The animator also
uses tools to make objects move which helps the animation process begin the same way, with a
storyboard. A storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the elements will move and
interact with each other. This process is important to the animator because it helps decide what
movements need to be assigned to objects in the animation. The animator must also have key points
of movements for each object in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each
object in a frame by frame sequence. The final product when put together, gives the look of fluid
movement which when the modeler is formed, the animator provides motion. These designs and
elements are nothing but empty or hollow forms

1.(Explicit and Implicit Costs) Amos McCoy is currently raising corn on his 100 acre farm and
earning an accounting profit of $100 per acre. However, if he raised soybeans, he could earn $200
per acre. Is he currently earning an economic profit? Why or why not? Amos McCoy is not
currently making an economic profit, despite the fact that he is making an accounting profit. This
is so, because the accounting profit calculation does not take into account an important implicit cost
the opportunity cost of not raising soybeans. Actually, McCoy is experiencing an economic loss.

4.(Alternative Measures of Profit) Why is it reasonable to think of normal profit as a type of
cost to the firm? Recall that firms produce output using four kinds of resources natural resources,
labor, capital, and entrepreneurial ability. The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources
that the firm employs. Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other
resources supplied by the firm s owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals could
earn in their best alternative situation, they will switch the resources to that alternative. So, we
can think of normal profit as being the minimum return, or cost, that is necessary to keep the firm
running. 5.(Short Run Versus Long Run) What distinguishes a firm s short run period from its
long run period? In the short run, at least one of the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of
the firm. In the long run, all the resources are variable. That is, the quantities of all resources can
change to alter the firm s level of output, including the size of the firm. 6.(Law of Diminishing
Marginal Returns) As a farmer, you must decide how many times during the year to plant a new
crop. Also, you

Coffee, Tea, And Tea
The history of the world can be viewed through six drinks, beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and
Coca Cola, as told in the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. However,
focusing on three drinks in particular, rum, coffee, and tea, an enormous story can be told. Those
three drinks impacted the world in many ways, especially the cultures that consumed or traded
them. In order to produce Rum, many Africans were brought to the Americas to work in servitude.
This caused a culture shift, because now you had two very different cultures working closely
together, but one was considered superior to the other. Coffeesparked the emergence of enlightened
thinkers, whose conversations and writings profoundly shaped European culture. Teahelped Britain
retain the colossal empire they are often credited with. This is because of a secondary effect of tea
as it helped to create the British Empire, which in turn impacted the world colossally. Coffee, tea,
and rum catapulted the world into major cultural shifts.
During the 17th and 18th centuries when rum was introduced the culture in the Americas and
Britain became one of unenlightened and drunken people. Before rum, all that most Europeans
had to drink was disease ridden water and beer. Rum was a happy medium between the two drinks.
Rum had more alcohol content than beer, and had more flavor than water, so it pleased the masses
greatly. However, since Rum did have a higher alcohol content, it left the population in a

Recently in Austin, Texas there have been a series of bombings. Three bombings have occurred
in total, one on March 2nd and two on March 12th. Authorities believe the bombings are
connected because the method of delivery was identical. Specifically, the bombs were all placed
in unmarked packages on the victims front door steps. Two African American males were killed
and a Hispanic women was seriously injured. CNN covered a story regarding the bombings titled
These Austin residents fear that the explosions may be racially motivated. The article discussed
why residents feel the attacks are racially motivated. Obviously, the primary reason is that none of
the victims were Caucasian. Chas Moore, the executive director of the Austin Justice Coalition,
summarized the feelings of many residents stating We do feel targeted. Until it happens to
somebody that is not a person of color I think that is going to remain the same. In addition to the
demographics of the victims, Moore cited the unacknowledged racial tension in the city as
evidence of the probability the attacks were racially motivated. Namely, because it is one of the

Specifically, the article claims the reason why the victims were targeted was because they were not

integrity of the Austin Police Department by asking What are you doing to make sure your officers

The Boom And Bust Of The Housing Market Bubble
As a member of the Millennial s and as a student of economics, The Great Recession, the greatest
economic downturn we ve seen in 70 years is truly an intriguing topic. It is the first economic
crisis that many of my generation can truly say we lived through. With the burst of the housing
bubble and the failure of various financial institutions, the United States was dragged kicking and
screaming from the prosperous age of nearly uninterrupted economic growth since the early
eighties, into an unemployment rate of over 9% and a decline in Real GDP in the first time in
decades. Years after the end of the recession we still reel from its effects. How did the fiscal crisis
begin in the first place? What institutions helped exasperate the... Show more content on

This led to the recession of 81 82 but managed to get inflation under 5% from the high double
digits it was under Nixon at the cost of a rather high unemployment rate of 10%. Many argue that
this and other policies under the Reagan administration known as Reagonomics, were what led to
the economic prosperity that we enjoyed in the 90 s and 2000 s. Rather than discuss what caused
the economic growth of the era, we examine a few of the effects it had on markets, especially
housing.
The family home has always been a major part of the American dream, but it had an even bigger
role in the Great Recession. Under legislative pressure banks eased up on a lot of the loans that
they gave out. According to Peicuti (2014), In the 2000s, the deregulation of the financial
system and development of the originate to distribute banking model led commercial banks to
finance subprime mortgages (p.7). It then goes on to lists several characteristics that these
borrowers may have including, relatively high default probability as evidenced by, for example,
a credit bureau risk... bankruptcy in the last five years... debt service to income ratio of 50
percent or greater (p.7). All of this tells us the same story, these were risky loans to make. We ve
learned from class that the interest rate is an indicator of the amount of risk on an asset. These
loans however were not properly assessed for the amount of risk on them. In short, the banks had
taken on more risk than they

Why Is Abu Ghraib Cruel
Abu Ghraib is Not Yet in the Grave According to jail time served by prisoners, it is less
punishable to abuse foreign prisoners than it is to deal drugs. The average time served by the
eleven offenders involved during the Abu Ghraib scandal was 13.1 months, compared to the
average of five years for drug dealers (CNN Library). Only five out of the eleven people directly
involved actually served time at all, with the most time served being 6 years out of an original 10
year sentence. So instead of dealing that heroin, maybe you could torture and humiliate soldiers, if
you re looking to serve less time in jail. The ghastly events at the Abu Ghraib prisonoccurred
throughout 2003, but the American public did not find out until the broadcast of 60 Minutes II in
April of 2004. The photographs released include images of dogs attacking prisoners, soldiers giving
the thumbs up sign as they appear to stitch prisoners wounds, prisoners positioned in humiliating

The Expanding Discourse Summary
The introduction to The Expanding Discourse and Reclaiming Female Agency: Feminist Art
History After Postmodernism as well as the interview A Dialogue with Linda Nochlin, the Maverick
She all provide a discourse on feminist art history through several decades that is enlightening and
somewhat startling. These essays explore some of the intricacies and changes within the history of
this relatively new methodology of art historyand, though these essays do not go into great detail,
they do offer a helpful survey that is brief, yet informative, for this particular discipline of art
history.
The introduction of The Expanding Discourse discusses the evolution of the different

What is clear is that feminist art history is not meant to sway art history solely towards the feminist
perspective, but to add it to the art historical canon to even out any inequalities. By continuously
questioning any theories of both traditional art history, but also those of postmodernism, the
evolution of feminist art history continues to develop, hopefully to its benefit. Clearly, feminist art
history has come a long way in a comparatively short time; however, this does not mean that there is
not room for improvement. Indeed, after reading these essays, there is a distinctly obvious need to
take action to advance feminist art history so that, in turn, other methodologies of art history can
develop to become more effective, influential, and inclusive. It is astonishing to learn how
complicated that feminist art history truly is, for there are so many factors that must be taken into
consideration, and the span of these factors only continues to

Domestic Violence As A Personal Choice

People are exposed to violence on a daily basis, whether it is through media, personal relationships,
or simply observed during daily activities. The few types of violence that are most prominent in
today s society are physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and domestic violence. Domestic
violence is one of the most problematic and dangerous forms of violence that exist due to the
detrimental effects it has on the individuals directly involved, children who witness these acts of
violence, and society as a whole. Both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse,
however, Safe Horizon states that, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her
lifetime (Safe Horizon). Everyone who experiences or witnesses domestic abuse are affected in
detrimental ways. The abusers often have anger problems or lack of impulse control which only
progresses. The victims become physically and emotionally scarred and the children who fall
witness to parental domestic violence develop issues with emotional and behavioral functioning as
well as social competence. More often than not, domestic violence is a learned behavior by
children in abusive homes. Research conducted by The American Medical Association estimates
that over 3.3 million children observe spousal abuse every year (Bennett, 1995). Because of this,
children will believe this behavior is okay and may even

Wireless Sensor Network ( Wsn )
Wireless sensor network From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A wireless sensor network
(WSN) is a computer network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using
sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature,
sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants, at different locations.[1] The development of
wireless sensor networks was originally motivated by military applications such as battlefield
surveillance. However, wireless sensor networks are now used in many civilian application
areas, including environment and habitat monitoring, healthcare applications, home automation,
and traffic control.[1][2] In addition to one or more sensors, each node in a sensor network is
typically equipped with a radio transceiver or other wireless communications device, a small
microcontroller, and an energy source, usually a battery. The size a single sensor node can vary
from shoebox sized nodes down to devices the size of grain of dust.[1] The cost of sensor nodes
is similarly variable, ranging from hundreds of dollars to a few cents, depending on the size of the
sensor network and the complexity required of individual sensor nodes.[1] Size and cost constraints
on sensor nodes result in corresponding constraints on resources such as energy, memory,
computational speed and bandwidth.[1] In computer science, wireless sensor networks are an active
research area with numerous workshops and conferences arranged each year.

Knowledge Is Power In The Invisible Man, By Ralph Ellison
Abtin Ghajarieh Sepanlou
ENG 4U
Ms. Smith
19 July 2017
Mind Does Not Matter
The Ghanaian Diplomat Kofi Annan once said, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating.
Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family . Although this phrase may
contain truth, our society has a long history where they heavily reject the notions of social
responsibility and social education. This is due to the fact that those in power are not able to see its
potential, as they themselves are without knowledge. Even though knowledge is often attributed to
success depending on convenience, certain time periods contained cruel and unusual treatment of a
large group of people based on a variety of prejudices. Using this perspective can help better
understand the message of the novel, The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison. The story follows the
life of a black man during the late 1920 s or early 1930 s, when racism was at its peak. In this
novel, the author uses literary elements to emphasize that knowledge and intelligence do not
necessarily equal power, but those who lack knowledge abuse their power. The author
accomplishes this by showing us the power of ignorance, and how feigning ignorance can lead to a
sense of power.
Knowledge is seen as the polar opposite of ignorance. Hence, the narrator s speech in the beginning
of the novel is the first sign that ignorance plagues the majority of the characters in the novel. The
author shows this when the narrator attempts to present

thirteen houses standing out around a stage in different themes, waiting for the new pledges. After
months of preparation of recommendation letters, resumes and shopping for the perfect outfit to

Resistance To Change Analysis
assess during the change process, and also change direction if necessary.
Strategies
The organization must implement specific strategies to identify and resolve resistance to change. O
Connor (1993) stated In an organization, resistance is opposition or witholding of support for
specific plans or ideas. It can either be intentional or unintentional, covert or overt (p. 30).
Employees will likely consider how change affects them personally and that may naturally cause
some resistance. One of the most important things an organization can do to minimize resistance is
to address these personal concerns. It is also important to identify any potential loss or gain that
comes from implementing, or not implementing, the change initiative. Leaders ... Show more

Leaders have to give stakeholders the opportunity to properly digest information, and react to
change, especially if it affects them directly. Understanding that a disruption may occur also
provides the leaders with an opportunity to address issues and assess the need for training.
Properly allocating an honest timeframe for all stages of the change process gives the
organization an opportunity to set realistic goals. This means allowing for the training of
employees that may require it to be successful in projected goals. Treating employees fairly and
setting them up to be successful is not only good for them, but also for the productivity and
possibility of success of the organization as a whole. During the assessment phase leaders must
have an honest reflection of the entire process, considering the areas of both success and failure.
Leaders must be fair in their assessment of the outcomes and be able to take responsibility for
making decisions and the effects of those decisions (Stainer, 2004).
Properly responding to ethical issues include the following: recognizing the issue, using ethical
judgment in assessment of the issue, behaving ethically, and the moral intent (Jones, 1991; Rest,
1986). The organization must be transparent in identifying the problem and actively work to correct
the issue. Because regulations and laws are in place to protect people from any ethical

Traveling, to go from one place to another, as by, car, train, foot, plane or ship. The novels,
Travels With Charley and Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck share the theme of
traveling. Steinbeck in Travels With Charley has his french poodle he travels across America

similiarities. In Travels With Charley Steinbeck sets out to see the people of the world trying to

Well, The American Dream is written into the Declaration of Independence: life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness. The American Dream is the belief of the American Society that each
individual can, through hard work and strength of mind, achieve everything they have ever
wanted( ). Lennie and George s dream of owning a farm and living off the fatta the lan
symbolizes this dream. Many of the characters in Of Mice and Men are wanting a different life
that represents the American Dream. For example, George and Lennie s American Dream is
owning their farm and being their own boss and not having to listen to anyone else. Having this
constant thought in mind George and Lenny always work as hard as they can and to save up
their money without spending much on their own selfs. Curley s wife is affected by the
American Dream before she dies because of her belief that she could be an actress. Even Crooks
allows himself the nice fantasy of hoeing a patch of garden on Lennie s farm one day, and Candy
latches on desperately to George s vision of owning a couple of acres. Crooks is motivated by
his own American Dream, which ends up being one of inclusion and companionship. Before the
action of the story begins, circumstances have robbed most of the characters of these wishes.
Curley s wife, for instance, has resigned herself to an unfulfilling marriage. Their journey, which
awakens George to the impossibility of this dream, sadly proves that the bitter Crooks is right:
such paradises of freedom, contentment, and safety are not to be found in this world (Kannan).
Not only does Of Mice and Men relate to the American Dream but so does Travels With Charley.
In Travels With Charley Steinbeck sets out on his journey and realizes so many people in the
real world are trying to achieve the American Dream. He finds a whole new breed of modern
people who were pursuing their own version of the American dream to live free from the world of

Digital Convergence Of Television Industry
1.Digital convergence in television industry
Many years ago, people gathered around the TV sets and later on families together with friends
met up and watched their favourite shows. Nowadays, due to the availability of low priced
technology as well as various channels and programmes, people lock themselves in a private space
watching TV. (Harboe cited in Nicole C.Stephan W.Brenda B.Christine G. 2015). As a result, people
have multiple preferences in TV programmes but nowhere to express their opinions. One way
communication in television industry is facing a big challenge. Web 2.0 comes out and provides a
revolutionary opportunity for television industry, after that, social television is born at the right
moment. Social TV is a new way people watch TV. When they watch TV, they comment on social
network sites. People discard the way of facing TV screen individually, and from the social TV,
participants will feel deep sense of involvement in exchanging opinions with others (Margherita P.

The transition between the white autocratic repressive state to an inclusive and democratic black
state was a major turning point in South African history, but the country still faces injustice and
corruption within its government. The one that tackled and failed these challenges was the
newly elected African National Congress. The African National Congress (ANC) was created
by the combined efforts of Thomas Maphikela and Nelson Mendela (Perry). The redistribution
programs that the ANC passed with the good intention of returning money to the people have
been exploited by corrupted officials for personal gain. Little to none of the money that was
supposedly for the citizens were pocketed by corrupted officials. A similar policy that was
passed to assist the impoverished was the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE). The goal BEE
was to build a free and fair democracy (Emkes). The BEE was a way to address the inequalities
that were committed in the apartheid system. It gave people economic opportunities that were not
available to them during the apartheid. The BEE was a failure and caused the income inequality to
widen, which resulted in the enrichment of a small group of black shareholders. These shareholders
acquired equity that is worth billions of Rand in South Africa s largest companies for their own
personal interests, while millions lived in poverty (Emkes). The rest of the population, mainly

Manson was referred to both as God and Satan by his followers. As the family s guru, he claimed
to be a reincarnation of Jesus Christ. The police and DA argue that Manson found sections within
the Beatles song Helter Skelter and within the last book in the Christian Bible, Revelation which he
felt referred to a devastating future race war between blacks and whites. Although Manson is not
believed to have killed anyone directly, he ordered his followers to commit the famous Tate,
LaBianca and other murders.
Because cultic behavior underlies more than extremist religious sects, many psychologists refer to
these groups as charismatic groups. A charismatic group consists of a dozen or more members,
even hundreds or thousands. It is characterized by the following psychological elements: members
(1) have a shared belief system, (2) sustain a high level of social cohesiveness, (3) are strongly
influenced by the group s behavioral norms, and (4) impute charismatic
(or sometimes divine) power to the group or its leadership (Galanter, 1989, p. 5). Most
psychologists would probably acknowledge that there exists a deep human need to belong to a
group. Often, this need leads people to form what might be viewed as unhealthy allegiances to a
person or group who, ultimately, does not truly have the person s interest at heart. Sigmund Freud
also believed wanting to belong to a group is a

Goering was prone to make impulsive and erratic decisions which made it difficult for the
Luftwaffe to get a jump on the RAF. Because of Goering s erratic decision making, Hitler would

clue about aerial strategies or tactics which Churchill picked up on and realized that it would give
the RAF a great advantage. Goering and Hitler were never on the same page with one another and

construction of the Lunatic Express British colonization of Kenya skyrocketed, causing a division
between white, well capitalized ranches Vs. small scale farmers. Tension between blacks and white
grew due to the uneasy equilibrium, causing motivation for uneducated, poor, landless kenyans to

being to destroy christianity. Leakey describes various methods of propaganda, one of the most
effect vises being subliminal hymns. Hymns would contain catchy melodies, with lyrics that would
prepare Kikuyu people to take the Mau Mau oath. Within the context, Leakey repeatedly identifies
religion as the primary reason for Mau Mau popularity(expansion?) in the Kikuyu community.

After Japanese ports started to trade with the West, woodblock prints bearing Japanese artwork
were used by European artists for artistic inspirations. The prints were inexpensive and could easily
serve as souvenirs, making significant demand among European artists of the time. The masterful
use of color and imagination made the Ukiyo e prints extremely popular. At the same time, the
characteristics of Japanese art were markedly different from the traditional European forms of
aesthetic expression. The asymmetrical compositions, strong diagonals, elongated figures, and the

The Meaning Of The Word In English Literature
During literature class, where we read narrative that goes from the middle ages to the present, I
noted that in many writings, several words appeared constantly in different stories from
different authors that nowadays, are less used or uncommon. Including bosom , alas , nay , gay
. Where bosom was used to refer to the chest as the seat of emotions. Alas used an exclamation to
express sorrow, grief, pity, or concern. These words were commonly used in the Middle English
1225 75. Nay is a denial or refusal that was substituted simply for no . However, the word that had
an even more drastic change of its meaning was gay.
This project analyzes and investigates how common this word was in the English narrative. A
hypothesis will be created of the reasons why its meaning may have changed. An example of its use
in literature will be presented through different periods of time with different authors. At the
beginning, according to the Oxford dictionary and the website dictionary.com, gay evolved from
given to or abounding in social or other pleasures; bright or show; having or showing a merry,
lively mood. To , in a certain period of time, changed drastically to mean sexually unrestrained or
having loose morals. Turned to be an offensive synonymous for awkward, stupid, bad or lame. At
the end, nowadays is relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or
persons of one s own sex; homosexual.
Hypothesis: Originally, the word gay

to move. Motivation aims to those psychological processes that can cause the arousal, direction,

willingness to exercise higher levels of effort toward organizational goals, backed by the effort s
ability to satisfy most of the individual needs . Needs here are internal states that makes some
outcomes attractive. Unsatisfied needs create anxiety that stimulates drives within the individual.
These drives then triggers search behaviour to look for particular goals that, if accomplished, will

Katherine Anne Porter, Ernest Hemingway, And Robert Frost
Katherine Anne Porter, Ernest Hemingway, and Robert Frost were only some of the author s
that reflected the modern era in their literary work.Change , rebelliouness, fresh, current, etc.,
are words that could be used to describe the Modern Era. The Modern Era Consist of many
changes, changes the revolutionized the world. The lost generation is an example of a change
that occured the Modern Era. The lost generation basically was a grouo of writer s that served in
the war that felt alienated. The Lost Generation questioned the American Dream after seeing the
conditions of work places. This was a change because before this time rarely ever did anyone
ever question the American Dream or even the way of American living. Another, change that took
place in the Modern Era was Jazz Age. The Jazz Age was a tim when the younger generation

Case Study Of Risk Analysis On Aviation Security
1.Travelling by air is one of the most common forms of transportation to get to overseas
destinations and Singapore Changi Airport is the sixth busiest international airport today. As a
major air hub in Asia, Changi Airport handled more than 51.2 million passengers in 2012 and this
makes it a legitimate target in the eyes of terrorists and other forms of crime because of the number
of people located in a particular location.
2.Aviation Security mitigates the threats and potentially dangerous situation arising from terrorist
attacks or crimes from happening. As such, aviation security is paramount to safeguard the airport,
travellers and the country from any threatening event. The Threat

The practical value of a risk analysis on key assets depends on the knowledge and completeness
with which the risks are identified. A good analysis requires that the all aspects of the asset be
examined to isolate those conditions, circumstances, activities, and relationships that affect the
asset. To effectively analyze threats against key assets, it is necessary to consider as many of the
potential threats as possible. This requires some in depth knowledge of the asset. Below are a few
factors that are important to organizational assets:
пѓјPhysical environment of the asset
пѓјNumbers and capabilities of the attackers
пѓјTelecommunications associated with the asset
пѓјContingency and Disaster Recovery plans for the asset
пѓјAttractiveness of the asset to attack
13.Knowing that threats can occur within an organization and its many environments and
disciplines will help in determining what threats will affect the asset and what is the likelihood of
an attack occurring. It will also help in determining the consequence or impact of a threat. To help
understand threats and their impact on assets, a mapping of threats with impact is necessary. The
following five impact categories list threats, both direct and indirect may have an impact.

The Massacre At El Mozote
In the early days of mid December in 1981, the Salvadoran military slaughtered hundreds of men,
women, and children who they believed were accessories to the left wing guerrilla group that was
waging war against the government. Mark Danner, in the book The Massacre at El Mozote,
addresses the bloodbath through the stories of survivors and guerrilla members that witnessed it as
well as questioning government officials from both the El Salvadoran and the United States
government. During that time period, there were numerous insurgencies that were challenging the
power of the state in Latin Americathrough propaganda and violent methods. The governments

The Atlacatl was an elite armed force that specialized in counter insurgency combat and was
training by the United States military. It received a mission known as OperacГon Rescate, which
translates into Operation Rescue, that had a single goal of removing guerrilla fighters and its
sympathizers in the area surrounding El Mozote. The fighters in this force accused the villagers of
supporting FMLN and supplying them with food, arms, and people. This accusation eventually
escalated to the torturing of certain members of the community and then the barbaric killing of
close to a thousand people. The Atlacatl used various methods to murder and terrorize the people
of El Mozote that included beheading, shooting, stabbing, and hanging. The armed forces
separated the women and raped girls as young as 10 years old as well as gather the children into a
room and slaughter them by stabbing or shooting them. At the end of the El Mozote Massacre, the
families that were able to escape or that were out of town came back to a village full of carnage and
their homes destroyed. The total death count is still debated until this day but it is estimated that
the Salvadoran military murdered around a thousand people at El Mozote. This book illustrates
several key issues and social problems that Latin American politics faced and continue to struggle
with to this day. The matter of insurgent movements and the counter insurgency methods that have

Atheism Is Not An Easy Belief
Atheism is just as misunderstood as theism in today s realm, specifically when one is precarious of
the other. Theists have some misunderstandings about atheism, but atheists have their specific
misconceptions about theism. These two world understandings are two risky points of view
regarding thoughts of God. Atheists do not trust that God exists, but theists believe in a God, who
made the world and earth. In his article, On Being an Atheist , H.J. McCloskey tries to convince his
listeners that Christianity is not an easy belief. He honors the three opinions that theists use to
protect their belief as evidences. The three opinions are the cosmological argument, the teleological
argument and the problem of evil. Even though these opinions... Show more content on

No matter if an individual is a theist or atheist, he or she has at some time asked why God would
permit or generate evil. The reply is as intricate as responding to the question of reality. If
McCloskey anticipates getting proof of why God permits evil of any kind, there is little proof that
is obtainable. There are just some objects that cannot be solved until one perishes and witnesses
life after death. There is just no complete way to exactly prove whether there is life after death and
definitively whether God exists. H.J. McCloskey attempts to answer the following questions. Is the
existence of God rational? Do the so called opinions for the reality of God have any truth value?
Can an atheist live a more content and ultimately calmer life? McCloskey allegations say that
atheism, not theism is a better interpretation for the world we observe. In this paper I will try to
challenge some of the interests that McCloskey makes about the proofs of God, specifically the
Cosmological and Teleological Arguments. I will then focus on his concerns to an morally
impeccable God who allows sin and evil to happen in an earth that he made. Lastly I will try to
describe McCloskey s allegations that life, as an atheist, is more relaxing than a life based on the
acceptance of a supreme existence. Within the first few paragraphs of his writing McCloskey

Halbert Alvarez
Abstract
Argentina is one of the largest countries in the world. It is sitting at the eighth largest country. It is
filled with many valuable minerals. Also, Argentina has a great background of history. It was
discovered by Juan D?az de Sol?s in early 16th century. It was disputed and is still being disputed
today! Sebastian Cabot went exploring in 1526. He established a fort named Sancti Sp?ritus. Then
in 1529, the natives of Argentina wiped out the whole fort, while Cabot was out looking for the
?City of Caesars.? Asunci?n and Buenos Aires played an important role in the rise of Argentina. It
lured many settlers from Spain. After the Independence Movement, the area went through some
tough times. The country fought until they were free from Spain. The government declared
independence on July 9, 1816. A few years after that, the government fell apart.
The nation?s government is very similar to the government of the United States. It has a two house
congress. One house is called the Senate, and the other house is called the Chamber of Deputies.
Also, the Presidency is the same of the United States. They can serve only two four year terms. The
only difference is that they can only serve the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects of War Presented in Journey s End Compared with...
Explore the ways in which the effects of war on the individual are presented in Journey s End .
Then compare the ways in which Sherriff presents the effects of war on the individual with the
ways in which Hill shows the impact of war on characters in Strange Meeting .
The character most obviously affected by the war in Journey s End is Stanhope. We learn early on
in the play that Stanhope drinks very heavily when Osborne and Hardy have a conversation about
him. I never did see a youngster put away the whisky he does. This is the first we see of the effects
that the war has had on an individual and although there are other characters that are also affected,
Stanhope appears to be the most prominent. It becomes apparent that ... Show more content on

The effects of war on Stanhope are presented both subtly and obviously. His drinking habits are
continually referred to throughout and although we learn early on that it is something that the war
has forced him into, his hatred for the war or his weak moments aren t made clear to the reader
until now when he admits his loathing to Hibbert.
Hill s character, Colonel Garrett in Strange Meeting is similar to Stanhope in the sense that both
characters are driven to excessive drinking by the effects of the war. Colonel Garrett has changed
and also turned to drink, we know this as the prose reads that Hilliard was appalled; he had not
dreamed that this could happen and so quickly to a man like Garrett . Despite this scene being the
first time we are introduced to Colonel Garrett; Hill manages to present the impact the war has had
on him through Hilliard s reaction to Garrett s new state of character. In contrast to Hill, Sheriff is
less subtle in his presentation of Stanhope and the character himself admits his change. It is
interesting to note that Garrett is minor within the novel whereas Stanhope is a major character in
the play which shows the different ways in which each author chose to present the effect of alcohol
within their text. At the beginning of the play, Raleigh appears to be optimistic and enthusiastic.

The Importance Of I Love America In America
I love America, I love Americans one of my best friends is American and I have been over there
on 7 or 8 occasions. I love the American way of life, their attitudes, their hospitable nature, and I
love their petrol prices ВЈ1.20 a gallon last time I was there!!! On top of their lifestyle, they have
some spectacular scenery and some awesome theme parks not to mention maple syrup and peanut
butterand jello!! Plain and simple I want to be American, and one day I would loveto live there.
My first experience of flying was in 1983 when my parents took me to Malta. It was sunny,
warm, a little disconcerting but VERY exciting. I found although I did not know where I was,I
was capable of easily orienting myself and therefore became very comfortable very quickly.
Malta, I found a little boring, but it gave me a need to travel. A longing that 15 years later I
would have the financial security to fulfil (although a few years ago I had to put my travelling
shoes away and my suitcase in the loft a whole new article:)).
The first place I flew to in America was Texas. This was in August 1999. The reason for going
was...erm...complicated a whole other article again! I landed at around 2pm after 7 or 8 hours,
but I love flying, so it really wasn t a problem. My first adventure in America, but I d already
decided it wouldn t be my last. I flew into Dallas, but needed to be in Paris a 2 hour taxi ride away.
By the time I had cleared customs nowhere near as scary or intimidating

The Meaning Of Life
Mehkya Wilcox
Everyone, in some form or fashion, has a desire to understand and question the purpose and
meaning of their life. In fact, it s important for people to understand the true meaning of the
purpose they have in life so that they may live well here on Earth. Philosophers, such as Socrates,
Aristotle, and Confucius began to question the life of a human being and what it meant to be a
human being. Each of these philosophers has their own philosophy or worldview of the best life a
human being can live, with the concept of having wisdom and virtue being the key components. In
fact, each of these philosophers expresses the importance of having a life full of wisdom and
virtue based off what they describe as the best life for a human being.
Socrates, according the Apology, describes the best life for a human being is to live the
examined life by having a care for the soul . Basically, he believes that people should examine
their lives by asking questions and effectively prove it be true and know it for themselves rather
than to rely on someone else s word for it to be right or true. Essentially, this is the very thing
that Socrates discovered about the meaning of wisdom as he attempts to solve the Delphic riddle
that no one is wiser than Socrates. He discovered that the people who claimed to be wise, such as
the politicians, poets and artisans were not really wise; they just appeared to be. In fact, he
discovered that even he was not wise and there are still some

wakeboarder or a newbie at the sport, there are a number of features that you should look for
when shopping for a quality wakeboard. Here are some of the things you should consider before
making your purchase: Length The length of a wakeboard is extremely important because it
needs to correspond appropriately to your height, your riding stance and your weight. If a
wakeboard isn t long enough for your body, you may not be able to float it properly. Likewise,
different wakeboard lengths conform better to different riding styles. Shorter wakeboards are
usually easier to spin and maneuver in the air during jumps. On the flip side, landings may be
more difficult because of the shorter surface area. A longer wakeboard is good for beginners
because it s easier to ride, but the heavier weight makes it more difficult to maneuver when you re
learning tricks and jumps. On the flip side, the increased surface area helps greatly in

The Exchange Rate And Auto Parts Manufactures
The case study The Exchange Rate and Auto Parts Manufactures shows two companies which are
suppliers to the US automobile company DaimerCrhrysler, and that companies based outside of the
US. As the consequence of the importing machines from the United States, companies faced
difficulties based on the exchange rate fluctuations.
First company SMS were faced difficulties with the exchange rate of USD and euro. The CEO of
the SMS Elotherm company, Udo Pfeiffer, took measures to avoid the loss. He raise price in
dollars to compensate the fall in the value of dollar, but finally manufacturers were constantly
pressuring machine tool companies to lower prices, not to raise them .
Another example of company shows us a company that was much more successful than SMS,
Keiper, which based in Germany and exporting metal frames for cars to the US. Company invest
money in the manufacture in Canada, when the exchange rate of euro were equal to the US
dollar. But there were some disadvantages of being based in Canada and it raised a costs of the
Keipers work. In addition, company faced problems with exchange rate because the company still
produces some parts in Germany and sent to US.
Every country has its own currency, which is a means of payment and allows various types of
financial transactions within the country. However, between different countries is also necessary to
make any cash payments or transactions. An exchange rate measures the value of one currency

Analyzing Dijkstra s Letter Essay
Critically Analyzing Dijkstra s Go To Statement Considered Harmful Recognizing the argument,
determining the types of reasoning used, and identifying logical fallacies are important aspects to
critically analyzing information. The paragraphs that follow provide a critical analysis of Edsger
Dijkstra s famous letter, Go To Statement Considered Harmful .
Critical Analysis
Recognizing the Argument In 1968, Edsger Dijkstra wrote a letter to the editor of Journal of the
ACM entitled Go To Statement Considered Harmful . In his letter, he insisted that the future of
programming would require a structural approach. Prior to this time, programmer s use of the go to
statement was conventional. Dijkstra argued that the usage of the go to ... Show more content on

He argued that if he were to stop a program at an arbitrary place in time that it was of the utmost
importance for the programmer to know exactly how his program reached that point and that it is
duplicable. When an unstructured go to statement is used, it can allow the execution of the
program to withdraw prematurely from a loop before it finishes completing. It also, can allow
the program to arbitrarily jump into a loop that has already initiated the process of iterating, thus
causing the programmer to have difficulty identifying a definitive answer to what the variables
actually represent at that specific time (Tribble, 2005). Dijkstra described, The unbridled use of
the go to statement has an immediate consequence that it becomes terribly hard to find a
meaningful set of coordinates in which to describe the process progress (Dijkstra, 1968, p.147).
Due to his discoveries, Dijkstra argued, The go to statement as it stands is just too primitive; it is
too much an invitation to make a mess of one s program (Dijkstra, 1968, p.147).
Determining Types of Reasoning Dijkstra used inductive reasoning as a way to present his
arguments against the go to statement. Inductive reasoning is an argument in which the premises
claim to support the conclusion in such a way that, if the premises are assumed to be true, then
(based on that assumption) it is probable that the conclusion is true (Herms, 1984). Dijkstra began
his letter by declaring that the go to statement

  • 2. Action Sports and Television Essay Action Sports and Television Actions sports have always been interesting to me. The way the athletes perform their tricks, how judges score them, and how the camera operators keep up with such a fast paced competition. The more I thought of my interest in this subject, the more I wanted to know. The growth of action sports on televisionfollows the same pattern of any other type of show genre in its early stages. Documentaries, themed shows or movies, and especially the coverage on live television would be good places to start looking into. The impact on cable television and sports channels could further delve into other questions that comes to mind, like how the public viewed them. When did corporate sponsorships begin to move the... An example being, as skis were manufactured lighter yet still retaining their durability, people began to push their limitations based on the limitations of the equipment. Many people give credit to people considered pioneers of action sports. Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, Travis Pastrana are just a few heavyweight title holders for defining what extreme sports are as well as helping to stimulate their popularity in the public eye. Television coverage of competitions has brought extreme sports and their participants more attention as well. The X Games and the Olympics are only two of many examples. Sponsorships play a huge role in any television programming. When shows of early television aired, they had live performances of a company s jingle ( Vitameatavegamin episode of I Love Lucy) and even demonstrations of exactly what it was supposed to do for the average american viewer. Cigarette ads were one of the most common, like before one the episodes of I Love Lucy we watched in class where the stick figure versions of Lucy and Desi were standing next to a large box of cigarettes and smoking one themselves. Sponsorships by tobacco companies are not around anymore on television. Companies controlling all aspects of a show are long gone and corporate sponsorships are seen plastered all over anything a company can get their hands on during air time for action sports. • 3. Truth And Truth In Dawn By Elie Wiesel History is written by the victors. Winston Churchill. The depth of this statement is almost like an abyss, unending and unknown. It holds plethoras of secrets and has no rival to match its ability. No other single entity within this world has the ability to change and morph truth. What is written by the victors is the truthtold, and in most cases, a stretched truth can become actual fact. But, while the victors may be able to write the world s past, they will never be able to write individual truth and perspective. The most complex stories the world will ever know lie are seen through each pair of eyes. Each human has their own story, perspective, and truth that only they will be able know. Each unique individual has the ability to write their own past and personal set of beliefs. And most importantly, each person chooses what they fight for. All of this comes together to create the complexity hidden within the book Dawn by Elie Wiesel. His main character, Elijah, is apart of a revolutionary force in Palestine fighting for the freedom of his people. To him and his comrades, they are the patriots, the freedom fighters, the light to their people, but to the British, their captors, they are a disease in the world, blight to the crops, and most importantly terrorists. While these two perspectives are clashing on the battlefield fighting for the right to the land of Palestine they are also fighting to write history. Even more than on the battlefield, the ... Recent developments that make this topic important, interesting or urgent According to Carrigan (2011), civil servants have a reputation for being lazy, but the public s perception of them frequently runs counter to this stereotype. Hence, the writer developed a model of an economy in which workers differ in laziness in public service motivation, and characterized optimal incentive contracts for public sector workers under different informational assumptions. ... O Connor suffered with lupus which had a grave impact on her life, but that didn t stop her from publishing many stories that achieved awards. O Connor s stories, A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Good Country People are two examples of the talented womans works that gained popularity over the years. Through analyzing these short stories, one could insinuate that there are many commonalities between the setting, characters, and themes of these stories. In A Good ManIs Hard to Find, O Connor immediately introduces an older woman who was completely against taking a family trip to Florida. Instead she was determined to redirect their trip toward Tennessee. O Connor includes brief details of the woman that could lead the reader to believe that she isn t completely sane. For example, as the old lady gets into the car, she was hiding a basket with Pitty Sing, the cat, in it, (612). Fearing that the cat would miss her too much. The woman also overdressed herself to the point where she was completely gaudy in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady, (612). These silly characteristics create a witty scene for the road trip. Along the way, the family stops to grab some food at a barbecue joint and the grandmother discusses the unlikelihood of finding a trustworthy man during such a time with the owner of ... • 8. Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And Atonement This essay looks at The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Atonement written by Ian McEwan, and their film adaptations, The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrman and Atonement directed by Joe Wright. Many film directors that decide to adapt a novel to a film often change the essence and core message of the original work of the author. According to Paulo Coelho, the reader has a certain perception about the characters, scenes, and details of the novel. But when the reader goes to watch the film adaptation, all these perceptions and views are ruined and the reader often ends up leaving the film feeling disappointed. However, I do not agree that Joe Wright and Baz Luhrman changed the message of the two novels. To a large extent, I was not disappointed by the film adaptations of The Great Gatsbyand Atonement. I believe that both film directors have stayed loyal and faithful to the novel, they did not change my opinion on how I viewed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scale size usually is anything from microns to light years across in size which are important and should be consistent with all the elements in the project so the layers of lines are built up to the patches and that creates the model that defines the shape of the object. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) The modeler contains the power of design; which the animator provides the illusion of life. The animator also uses tools to make objects move which helps the animation process begin the same way, with a storyboard. A storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the elements will move and interact with each other. This process is important to the animator because it helps decide what movements need to be assigned to objects in the animation. The animator must also have key points of movements for each object in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each object in a frame by frame sequence. The final product when put together, gives the look of fluid movement which when the modeler is formed, the animator provides motion. However, if he raised soybeans, he could earn $200 per acre. Is he currently earning an economic profit? Why or why not? Amos McCoy is not currently making an economic profit, despite the fact that he is making an accounting profit. Recall that firms produce output using four kinds of resources natural resources, labor, capital, and entrepreneurial ability. The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources that the firm employs. Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other resources supplied by the firm s owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals could earn in their best alternative situation, they will switch the resources to that alternative. So, we can think of normal profit as being the minimum return, or cost, that is necessary to keep the firm running. 5.(Short Run Versus Long Run) What distinguishes a firm s short run period from its long run period? In the short run, at least one of the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of the firm. In the long run, all the resources are variable. That is, the quantities of all resources can change to alter the firm s level of output, including the size of the firm. 6.(Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns) As a farmer, you must decide how many times during the year to plant a new crop. • 11. Coffee, Tea, And Tea The history of the world can be viewed through six drinks, beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca Cola, as told in the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. However, focusing on three drinks in particular, rum, coffee, and tea, an enormous story can be told. Those three drinks impacted the world in many ways, especially the cultures that consumed or traded them. In order to produce Rum, many Africans were brought to the Americas to work in servitude. This caused a culture shift, because now you had two very different cultures working closely together, but one was considered superior to the other. Coffeesparked the emergence of enlightened thinkers, whose conversations and writings profoundly shaped European culture. Teahelped Britain retain the colossal empire they are often credited with. This is because of a secondary effect of tea as it helped to create the British Empire, which in turn impacted the world colossally. Coffee, tea, and rum catapulted the world into major cultural shifts. During the 17th and 18th centuries when rum was introduced the culture in the Americas and Britain became one of unenlightened and drunken people. Before rum, all that most Europeans had to drink was disease ridden water and beer. Rum was a happy medium between the two drinks. Rum had more alcohol content than beer, and had more flavor than water, so it pleased the masses greatly. However, since Rum did have a higher alcohol content, it left the population in a ... Authorities believe the bombings are connected because the method of delivery was identical. Specifically, the bombs were all placed in unmarked packages on the victims front door steps. Two African American males were killed and a Hispanic women was seriously injured. CNN covered a story regarding the bombings titled These Austin residents fear that the explosions may be racially motivated. The article discussed why residents feel the attacks are racially motivated. Obviously, the primary reason is that none of the victims were Caucasian. Chas Moore, the executive director of the Austin Justice Coalition, summarized the feelings of many residents stating We do feel targeted. Until it happens to somebody that is not a person of color I think that is going to remain the same. In addition to the demographics of the victims, Moore cited the unacknowledged racial tension in the city as evidence of the probability the attacks were racially motivated. The Boom And Bust Of The Housing Market Bubble As a member of the Millennial s and as a student of economics, The Great Recession, the greatest economic downturn we ve seen in 70 years is truly an intriguing topic. It is the first economic crisis that many of my generation can truly say we lived through. With the burst of the housing bubble and the failure of various financial institutions, the United States was dragged kicking and screaming from the prosperous age of nearly uninterrupted economic growth since the early eighties, into an unemployment rate of over 9% and a decline in Real GDP in the first time in decades. Years after the end of the recession we still reel from its effects. How did the fiscal crisis begin in the first place? What institutions helped exasperate the... This led to the recession of 81 82 but managed to get inflation under 5% from the high double digits it was under Nixon at the cost of a rather high unemployment rate of 10%. Many argue that this and other policies under the Reagan administration known as Reagonomics, were what led to the economic prosperity that we enjoyed in the 90 s and 2000 s. Rather than discuss what caused the economic growth of the era, we examine a few of the effects it had on markets, especially housing. The family home has always been a major part of the American dream, but it had an even bigger role in the Great Recession. Under legislative pressure banks eased up on a lot of the loans that they gave out. According to Peicuti (2014), In the 2000s, the deregulation of the financial system and development of the originate to distribute banking model led commercial banks to finance subprime mortgages (p.7). It then goes on to lists several characteristics that these borrowers may have including, relatively high default probability as evidenced by, for example, a credit bureau risk... bankruptcy in the last five years... debt service to income ratio of 50 percent or greater (p.7). All of this tells us the same story, these were risky loans to make. We ve learned from class that the interest rate is an indicator of the amount of risk on an asset. The average time served by the eleven offenders involved during the Abu Ghraib scandal was 13.1 months, compared to the average of five years for drug dealers (CNN Library). Only five out of the eleven people directly involved actually served time at all, with the most time served being 6 years out of an original 10 year sentence. So instead of dealing that heroin, maybe you could torture and humiliate soldiers, if you re looking to serve less time in jail. The ghastly events at the Abu Ghraib prisonoccurred throughout 2003, but the American public did not find out until the broadcast of 60 Minutes II in April of 2004. These essays explore some of the intricacies and changes within the history of this relatively new methodology of art historyand, though these essays do not go into great detail, they do offer a helpful survey that is brief, yet informative, for this particular discipline of art history. What is clear is that feminist art history is not meant to sway art history solely towards the feminist perspective, but to add it to the art historical canon to even out any inequalities. By continuously questioning any theories of both traditional art history, but also those of postmodernism, the evolution of feminist art history continues to develop, hopefully to its benefit. Clearly, feminist art history has come a long way in a comparatively short time; however, this does not mean that there is not room for improvement. Indeed, after reading these essays, there is a distinctly obvious need to take action to advance feminist art history so that, in turn, other methodologies of art history can develop to become more effective, influential, and inclusive. It is astonishing to learn how complicated that feminist art history truly is, for there are so many factors that must be taken into consideration, and the span of these factors only continues to ... The few types of violence that are most prominent in today s society are physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and domestic violence. Domestic violence is one of the most problematic and dangerous forms of violence that exist due to the detrimental effects it has on the individuals directly involved, children who witness these acts of violence, and society as a whole. Both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse, however, Safe Horizon states that, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime (Safe Horizon). Everyone who experiences or witnesses domestic abuse are affected in detrimental ways. The abusers often have anger problems or lack of impulse control which only progresses. The victims become physically and emotionally scarred and the children who fall witness to parental domestic violence develop issues with emotional and behavioral functioning as well as social competence. More often than not, domestic violence is a learned behavior by children in abusive homes. Research conducted by The American Medical Association estimates that over 3.3 million children observe spousal abuse every year (Bennett, 1995). Wireless Sensor Network ( Wsn ) Wireless sensor network From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a computer network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants, at different locations.[1] The development of wireless sensor networks was originally motivated by military applications such as battlefield surveillance. However, wireless sensor networks are now used in many civilian application areas, including environment and habitat monitoring, healthcare applications, home automation, and traffic control.[1][2] In addition to one or more sensors, each node in a sensor network is typically equipped with a radio transceiver or other wireless communications device, a small microcontroller, and an energy source, usually a battery. The size a single sensor node can vary from shoebox sized nodes down to devices the size of grain of dust.[1] The cost of sensor nodes is similarly variable, ranging from hundreds of dollars to a few cents, depending on the size of the sensor network and the complexity required of individual sensor nodes.[1] Size and cost constraints on sensor nodes result in corresponding constraints on resources such as energy, memory, computational speed and bandwidth.[1] In computer science, wireless sensor networks are an active research area with numerous workshops and conferences arranged each year. ... • 20. Knowledge Is Power In The Invisible Man, By Ralph Ellison Abtin Ghajarieh Sepanlou ENG 4U Ms. Smith 19 July 2017 Mind Does Not Matter The Ghanaian Diplomat Kofi Annan once said, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family . Although this phrase may contain truth, our society has a long history where they heavily reject the notions of social responsibility and social education. This is due to the fact that those in power are not able to see its potential, as they themselves are without knowledge. Even though knowledge is often attributed to success depending on convenience, certain time periods contained cruel and unusual treatment of a large group of people based on a variety of prejudices. Using this perspective can help better understand the message of the novel, The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison. The story follows the life of a black man during the late 1920 s or early 1930 s, when racism was at its peak. In this novel, the author uses literary elements to emphasize that knowledge and intelligence do not necessarily equal power, but those who lack knowledge abuse their power. The author accomplishes this by showing us the power of ignorance, and how feigning ignorance can lead to a sense of power. Knowledge is seen as the polar opposite of ignorance. Hence, the narrator s speech in the beginning of the novel is the first sign that ignorance plagues the majority of the characters in the novel. The author shows this when the narrator attempts to present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The biggest conflict between Eulalie and Esi is the couple s decision on not having children. In the prelude, a poem titled I am the bird of the Wayside foreshadows what conflicts the reader will discover in the play. This an important part of the play because it gives the reader issues that the play will center around. During act one of the play Ato returns home from schooling that his mother (Esi) helped put him through. In Ato s family s eyes education in America is better than education in Ghana. The expectations on Ato is he will get this great education and be able to come back and repay his mother with this excellent job he will get. • 40. The Meaning Of The Word In English Literature During literature class, where we read narrative that goes from the middle ages to the present, I noted that in many writings, several words appeared constantly in different stories from different authors that nowadays, are less used or uncommon. Including bosom , alas , nay , gay . Where bosom was used to refer to the chest as the seat of emotions. Alas used an exclamation to express sorrow, grief, pity, or concern. These words were commonly used in the Middle English 1225 75. Nay is a denial or refusal that was substituted simply for no . However, the word that had an even more drastic change of its meaning was gay. This project analyzes and investigates how common this word was in the English narrative. A hypothesis will be created of the reasons why its meaning may have changed. An example of its use in literature will be presented through different periods of time with different authors. At the beginning, according to the Oxford dictionary and the website dictionary.com, gay evolved from given to or abounding in social or other pleasures; bright or show; having or showing a merry, lively mood. To , in a certain period of time, changed drastically to mean sexually unrestrained or having loose morals. Turned to be an offensive synonymous for awkward, stupid, bad or lame. At the end, nowadays is relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own sex; homosexual. Hypothesis: Originally, the word gay ... Hill s character, Colonel Garrett in Strange Meeting is similar to Stanhope in the sense that both characters are driven to excessive drinking by the effects of the war. In fact, it s important for people to understand the true meaning of the purpose they have in life so that they may live well here on Earth. Philosophers, such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Confucius began to question the life of a human being and what it meant to be a human being. Each of these philosophers has their own philosophy or worldview of the best life a human being can live, with the concept of having wisdom and virtue being the key components. In fact, each of these philosophers expresses the importance of having a life full of wisdom and virtue based off what they describe as the best life for a human being. Socrates, according the Apology, describes the best life for a human being is to live the examined life by having a care for the soul . Basically, he believes that people should examine their lives by asking questions and effectively prove it be true and know it for themselves rather than to rely on someone else s word for it to be right or true. Essentially, this is the very thing that Socrates discovered about the meaning of wisdom as he attempts to solve the Delphic riddle that no one is wiser than Socrates. Critical Analysis Recognizing the Argument In 1968, Edsger Dijkstra wrote a letter to the editor of Journal of the ACM entitled Go To Statement Considered Harmful . Dijkstra argued that the usage of the go to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argued that if he were to stop a program at an arbitrary place in time that it was of the utmost importance for the programmer to know exactly how his program reached that point and that it is duplicable. When an unstructured go to statement is used, it can allow the execution of the program to withdraw prematurely from a loop before it finishes completing. It also, can allow the program to arbitrarily jump into a loop that has already initiated the process of iterating, thus causing the programmer to have difficulty identifying a definitive answer to what the variables actually represent at that specific time (Tribble, 2005). Dijkstra described, The unbridled use of the go to statement has an immediate consequence that it becomes terribly hard to find a meaningful set of coordinates in which to describe the process progress (Dijkstra, 1968, p.147). Due to his discoveries, Dijkstra argued, The go to statement as it stands is just too primitive; it is too much an invitation to make a mess of one s program (Dijkstra, 1968, p.147). Determining Types of Reasoning Dijkstra used inductive reasoning as a way to present his arguments against the go to statement. Inductive reasoning is an argument in which the premises claim to support the conclusion in such a way that, if the premises are assumed to be true, then (based on that assumption) it is probable that the conclusion is true (Herms, 1984).
