State Line Liquors In Elkton
I work at a liquor store called State Line Liquors in Elkton. I pack up customers liquor and then
take it out to their car. I carefully carry their stuff out only for them to look at the ground mutter
thank you and retreat to their cars. It can get really frustrating when this happens because people
always seem to expect us to do it. They do not understand what a serviceis. People always say that
waiters and waitresses have it rough because most of their wages come from tips, but Americans
have ingrained into their mind that the waiter must always be tipped. This is only one of the
many jobs inside of the service industry. I believe in always tipping the service guy. The service
workforce really do have the hardest jobs out there. They

Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver
The short story Popular Mechanics , a short story by Raymond Carver tells the story of a
husband and a wife fighting for their child. A reader can also find that the story has symbolism in
two major ways. The first example of symbolism exists within the child. The child represents the
downfall of love. The second example of symbolism can be acquainted to the stages of grief. The
reader having these views greatly alters their perception of the story.
When observing the text the reader can come up with a simple summary. Two parents fight over a
child. In the event of the fight the child is put between the parents. Meaning the two parents now
physically fight over the baby by tugging on it. The baby appears to be symbolic of a link between

Raymond Carver actually takes the reader through the 5 stages of grief within the short story.. When
the reader first starts reading the story they will notice the woman telling the man I m glad you
re leaving! I m glad you re leaving! . She tells a possible white lie, meaning she actually needs
him, whilst in denial of this fact. When crying she expresses anger towards the man, swearing at
him and mocking him. These emotions are mostly linked with anger. Once this finishes bargaining
begins. She tries to bargain with the husband over the baby s future home, whether it be hers, or
his. This doesn t work. Depression plays a major role within the text, as the entire tone can be
considered depressing. With a dark and gloomy setting, and a family filled of sadness and hate
towards each other. The final stage of the story and grief is acceptance. In the events that occur
acceptance eventually arrives. Though involuntary, acceptance occurs in the end. In this manner,
the issue was decided , when the reader analyse the text given here the reader finds that indeed,
there was acceptance. Acceptance of the issue. Though vague, implication that one of the two (the
husband or wife) will come to acceptance of the situation, exists within the

Essay on The Role of Labor in American History
This brief history of more than 100 years of the modern trade union movement in the United States
can only touch the high spots of activity and identify the principal trends of a century of
achievement. In such a condensation of history, episodes of importance and of great human drama
must necessarily be discussed far too briefly, or in some cases relegated to a mere mention.
What is clearly evident, however, is that the working people of America have had to unite in
struggle to achieve the gains that they have accumulated during this century. Improvements did not
come easily. Organizing unions, winning the right to representation, using the collective bargaining
process as the core of their activities, struggling against bias and ... Show more content on

Through these decades, the labor movement has constantly reached out to groups in the American
society striving for their share of opportunity and rewards..... to the blacks, the Hispanics and
other minorities..... to women striving for jobs and equal or comparable pay . . . to those who
work for better schools, for the freedom of speech, press and assembly guaranteed by the Bill of
Rights ... to those seeking to make our cities more livable or our rural recreation areas more
available . . . to those seeking better health for infants and more secure status for the elderly.
Through these decades, in addition, the unions of America have functioned in an economy and a
technology marked by awesome change. When the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor
Unions gathered in convention in 1881, Edison had two years earlier invented the electric light,
and the first telephone conversation had taken place just five years before. There were no autos, no
airplanes, no radio, no television, no air conditioning, no computers or calculators, no electronic
games. For our modest energy needs coal, kerosene and candies we were independently self
sufficient.
The labor movement has seen old industries die (horse shoeing was once a major

The Importance Of Desegregation In Public Schools
Have you ever thought about how much history has changed since the dark days? The civil rights
act of 1964 finally ended segregation in public places. The civil rights was first proposed by
president John F. Kennedy, despite all the oppression from southern council members. Swann v.
Charlotte Mecklenburg board of education. Presented to the Supreme Court in 1971 this case was
to determine wether the respondents idea of the desegregation plan was an effective and reasonable
attempt. The constitutional mandate to desegregate public schools did not require all schools in a
district to reflect the judgement of the district s racial composition, but the existence of all black or
all white schools must not be shown to be the result of segregation... Show more content on

During the year 1968 until 1969 more than 84,000 pupils were served in the school system.
Approximately two thirds of the Negro children attended schools which were entirely Negro or
more than 99% Negro. Guarantee to an order of a federal district court, the school board adopted a
desegregation plan for elementary schools... Brown v. Board of education was a milestone for the
Supreme Court. This case decided that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. This case
signaled the end of legalized
Futch 2 segregation in the schools of the United States. This case overruled the separate but equal
principle set fourth from the Plessy v. Ferguson case. May 17th, 1954 the Supreme Court
immediately decided that the case of Brown v. Board of education was a violation of the 14th
amendment, making it unconstitutional. Arguments were to be heard during the next term to
determine just how the ruling would be imposed. Just over one year later, on May 31, 1955, Warren
read the Court s unanimous decision, now referred to as Brown II, instructing the states to begin
desegregation plans with all deliberate speed. Although there were two unanimous votes against this
ruling along with all the resistance against the supreme courts ruling

The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr
Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to
Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her
father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely
her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family,
Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she
dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected
well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often

This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in the
development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for Hedy while she was
married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being
kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is
where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to
America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career.
Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it;
stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy
had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the
influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33
movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more
times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough
she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a
cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create.

Transportation And Warehouse Management Essay
Transportation and Warehouse Management
SUMMARY
The report is on how transportation and warehouse management plays a vital role in the supply
chain, different modes of transports that involve in the freight movement from one location to
another. The amount of time to deliver a product to customers will show the effect on company s
future, so the company has to follow some steps to have a better mode of transportation for less
cost and delivery time. The primary objective of this project is to show how the transportation and
warehouse management systems are used to overcome the problems that are faced in transportation
and storage quickly and some of the key elements in WMS and TMS.
Transportation management:
Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management.
Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the
movement of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer
safely. Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the
produced product on the same site is almost negligible. Now, transportation is one of the primary
factors which can affect the economy of the company when it is not efficient, safe and reliable.
Delivering the products on time directly to the customers has been increasing significantly in these
recent years which can be accomplished only with transportation management, resulting

Logical Fallacies And Stereotypes
Logical Fallacies There were several fallacies in the video titled How Walmart Steals Wages
Discriminates including fallacies from Walmart and the people who made the video. Some of
these fallacies are: false cause about discrimination, bandwagon about how Walmart pays their
employees appropriately, argument from authority when the CEO talked about hours worked and
payed, possible slight anecdotal and the Texas sharp shooter because of who was interviewed.
Some women were managers others cleaned the bathrooms because they were the only female
working at that time. Some women felt like they should have been promoted but were not because
they were women could this be a false cause? Edith Arana however quoted her manager who told

It is easy for a study to be compromised by using a convenience sampling or by only sampling
those who were disappointed with a company or product unintentionally or purposely like in the
case of composition/division. For example is this a wide spread epidemic for all Walmart stores
or was this just a store or two in each state? Based on the map that showed where the lawsuits
were filed, at the time the video, in 31 states but not in New Jersey, and not in all 50 states which
I found interesting. Another factor that could play a role in the composition of those interviewed
is how many people they interviewed and whether they only interviewed those with negative
feelings toward Walmart. If they only interviewed people who were upset with Walmart the results
would be expected to be as they were, but if they interviewed ten or fifteen random people and got
the same response, it would have a better chance at being accurate and not biased. Lastly when the
people felt like they were being discriminated against, were there people of different ethnicities,
males and females that thought they were being discriminated against other than those shown in the
video clip? This also depends on whether they interviewed only people with a

Knight s Role In Warfare During The Middle Ages
A knight s role and the impact heavy cavalry had on warfare have greatly varied throughout the
period of the Middle Ages. Although knight s dominated the battlefield and had a huge cultural
value in society you cannot ignore the impact that technology has had on their role. These
technological advances such as the longbow, the introduction of light cavalry and developments
such as gunpowder and artillery, the tactical developments such as sieges and the general
organisation surrounding warfare resulted in knights declining in social value, status and
affectability as well as a more dramatic yet gradual metamorphosis into the heavily armoured tank
divisions in today s modern armies.
It has always been a greatly contested debate as to when the Middle ... Show more content on

This is demonstrated mainly by the speed and manoeuvrability riding on horseback provided.
Speed could be converted into shock as the enemy if unaware of a knight s potential power ground
could be covered quickly before the enemy had a chance to provide a defence mechanism and
would have no option to surrender. This however was only evident in the early Middle Ages,
showing that heavy cavalry would not be the most dominant force throughout the entirety of the
Middle Ages. However this speed and manoeuvrability did not always result in the knight being the
dominant figure. The knight may have been dominant in the West where the terrain was favourable
and the heat moderate but when traveling to Jerusalem for the crusades they were less well suited
to endurance in a hot climate and clumsy and unmanoeuvrable making them ineffective and
vulnerable to the enemy. This shows how even though they may dominant warfare in Western
Europe they were too heavy to cover ground effectively and not as moveable as the lighter eastern
cavalry, which weighed approximately 700 to 900lbs to the Western 1,200 to

Summary Of Linda Pastan, John Donne And James Wright
Force of Nature The heat rises, bringing a red hue to a once pale face. In the distance long blonde
hair blows erratically. She is a force of nature and one cannot help but admire as she rides out of
sight, leaving behind a weak shadow, that will never forget her. Linda Pastan, John Donne, and
James Wright; all renowned poets in their own right demonstrate the use of similar techniques to
establish the very different themes in the poems they bring to life. Pastan, famed for her use of
nostalgia in conventional poetry, John Donne for his use of religion , and James Wright for his
extensive imagery. In analysing To a Daughter Leaving Home , At the Earth s Imagined Corners,
and, A Blessing by the respective author, a resemblance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, Pastan s simple approach to poetry has allotted her a very defined place in any
household. Specifically, through the use of her own experiences Pastan is able to easily evoke
pathos from her reader by making her work easily understood. For example in, To a Daughter
Leaving Home, Pastan is informal and follows no particular structure or rhyme. Paston s poetry is
self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her
work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her
style is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to
many other poets.
Similarly, John Donne, also harnesses point of view to strengthen the theme of his poem, At the
Earth s Imagined Corners. The poem itself is an apocalypse in itself, a combination of both
disorder and discernment; highlighted through the use of second person point of view. The
poem itself begin with a dark warning, , arise From the death, you numberless infinities Of souls,
and to your scattered bodies go. (Arp 789) The use of second point of view immediately beckons
wildy for the reader s attention, by warning of the fate suffered by sinners. Donne s writings are
extremely vivid and clearly depict images of a foul hell on Earth for those that fail to repent of
their sins. The poem itself is intended to be a call to action, warning all of the inevitable end that is
to come. The

Paycheck And Times Of Katrina Gilbert
The documentary, Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert, follows the life of
Katrina Gilbert, a single mother living in poverty, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It records what
life is like for most single mothers in the United States living paycheck to paycheck. Living
paycheck to paycheck means that with each paycheck, the person does not get to save any of the
money they have earned, in Katrina s case, she uses the money to pay for the rent, bills, child
care, gasoline, and food. Most people living paycheck to paycheck, don t earn much but have
large expenses. The factors of why Katrina Gilbert is in this situation include economic factors,
health factors, and legal factors. Economic factors, such as her ex husband losing his job and not
being able to pay for child support for a couple of months, her wage not being enough, and getting
her scholarship application denied. There were also health and health care factors that influenced
her life such as having Graves Disease and other health issues, but not having health insurance to be
able to cover the costs and at one point, her panic attacks affected her ability to work. The legal
factors that shaped Katrina s situation included her boyfriend Chris needing to pay child support for
his children, causing Katrina to shoulder most of the costs for their shared house. Katrina s personal
choices affect her life to some extent, however, her behavior is something that did not affect her
economic situation.

Escapism in Children s Literature
Children s literature can take many forms, from far fetching science fiction to spell binding who
done it mysteries. One of the most popular ideas presented in these various forms is that of
escapism. The characters in these stories explore quite complex social issues in ways that are less
confrontational then realism. One might consider why escape is such a central theme; as a child
there are numerous benefits to fantasy, it allows readers to experiment with different views of the
world and takes hypothetical situations and invites them to make connections between this fictive
scenario and their own reality. John Stephens an English professor at Macquarie University has said
Fantasy writing operates through metaphor so that the unfamiliar is used to stand in for, or
comment upon, the familiar.
The use of metaphor in Fantasy makes it more open to different readings and meanings. Take
J.M. Barrie s fantasy novel Alice s Adventures in Wonderland as an example. Barrie uses his story
to transport Alice to an unknown world full of backwards words and talking animals. This allows
Alice to escape the boredom of picture less books and adult conversations that were beginning to
consume her. Similar in theory is Neil Gaiman s style of writing. Gaiman has produced a number of
Victorian influenced fantasy novels for children, including Coraline. Coraline, like Alice centers on
a young girl entering another world.
Escape can be seem in many books for children but one story in

Bibliography on Globalization and Health
Globalization and Health Globalization has had a huge effect on health, both positive and
negative. Because of increased mobility due to globalization, health professionals are able to
cross borders with stunning speed in order to deliver care and patients in need of certain
treatments have benefited from the ability to leave their country for care. The Internet makes it
easier to alert the relevant authorities to the outbreak of a disease and to share information on
health issues. However, globalization has had negative effects on health as well. When the
Europeans first traveled and colonized the world, they brought with them terrible diseases,
killing over 90% of the population. The Aztec, Maya, and Inca tribes were the most affected by
these diseases. International travel and globalization has brought many diseases, previously
native to certain countries, all over the world. For example, Chagas Disease, a disease spread by
insects brought over from Mexican immigrants, has infected more than 500,000 citizens of
America. Illegal drug trade, another result of globalization, is also having a negative effect on
health. Another negative effect of globalization is the recognition of medical degrees of less
developed countries by developed countries. Young medical professionals from less developed
countries finish their training in developed nations and tend to stay to develop their careers and
raise their families. This drains less developed countries of needed health care

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
1. Cash normally consists of coins and currency on hand, bank deposits, and various kinds of
orders for cash such as bank checks, money orders, travelers checks, demand bills of exchange,
bank drafts, and cashiers checks. Balances on deposit in banks which are subject to immediate
withdrawal are properly included in cash. Money market funds that provide checking account
privileges may be classified as cash. There is some question as to whether deposits not subject to
immediate withdrawal are properly included in cash or whether they should be set out separately.
Savings accounts, time certificates of deposit, and time deposits fall in this latter category. Unless
restrictions on these kinds of deposits are such that they cannot be converted (withdrawn) within
one year or the operating cycle of the entity, whichever is longer, they are properly classified as
current assets. At the same time, they may well be presented separately

Latino History and Culture
Historians are still unclear on when the first Latinos appeared in North America. The most prevalent
theory is that they were nomadic hunters who came from the Asia mainland and across the then
frozen Bering Straight into Alaska. Regardless of their origins their main region is now the
Americas, both North and South and it is expected that the Latino population in the United States
will increase by 40% in the next ten years (US Census 2010). Their culture and society is steeped in
tradition and understanding and appreciating their culture is imperative for any person working in

churches also teach the value of family and are often a place where there are Spanish language

On April 22nd, 1970, the American public gathered in the streets to celebrate clean air, water, and
land. Congressmen in Washington D.C. halted their activities to be their constituents; however, the
Nixon administration was laboring at what would become the capstone of environmental policy, the
EPA. While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had
been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. In 1849, Henry David Thoreau
published a compilation of lectures, Walden, that would become the standard by which all
subsequent nature writings are judged. John Muir, father of the American preservationist
movement, cofounded the Sierra Club, which preserved California wild lands. Both Theodore
Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt worked during their tenure as presidents to save the
National Park System ( Environmentalism ). After World War II, the United States birthrate
skyrocketed, and people found themselves living on the edge of parks and nature. The public began
to question whether the government was working to preserve untouched land for future
generations. When Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962, the era of environmentalism
was born. This movement demanded the state not only preserve the Earth, but act to regulate and
punish those who polluted it (Farrah). The work on the pesticide poisoning of man sparked a

The Big Shift By Darrel Bricker And John Ibbitson
The thesis put forth by Darrel Bricker and John Ibbitson in The Big Shift: The Seismic Change in
Canadian Politics, Business, and Culture and What It Means for Our Future , is premised on the
notion that the Laurentian Consensus has ended due to its reluctance to accept the changes that
Canada has gone, and will go through. They argue that their resistance to change created an
opportunity for the Conservative party to become the new natural governing party in Canada
(Bricker Ibbitson, 2013). By recognizing and acting on these changes, the Conservative party built a
platform for success which lead to the outcome of the 2011 federal election. They argue that the
seismic shift in the demographics of Canadian voters from one side of the political spectrum to the
other granted Conservatives this victory. This paper will explore the flaws within their argument,
and the extent to which this shift is perpetual in nature.
The Laurentian Consensus can be defined as the collective rule by those along the St. Lawrence
River including Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec political, business, academic,

Correlation between Playing Team Sports in High School or...
I do believe that potentially, if you played team sports in high school/college that it will increase
your chances of landing that big job. People do not realize what it takes to play a team sport, it
takes team work, work ethic, mental strength, I can go on and on about what you need to be able to
succeed in a sport. Just having those skills listed above can help you prepare for the career field
you will be going in. Think about having a job, there are a lot of skills you need to possess in order
to succeed in that career field. It is much like playing a team sport; you need to be able to use those
same skills you used when you played a team sport to become successful in the work force. These
are just some of the reasons why playing a team sport will help you land that big job in the work
force.
Let s say you are a owner for a huge business, and you had to fire someone for whatever reason,
when you go to hire that new candidate, which one would you choose; a guy who is very
friendly, outgoing, great communication skills, and a great leader, or someone who is just the
opposite but may have a few of those skills. Knowing as an owner that this guy was a star on the
baseball team, and a great leader with a lot of skills required to be successful in the work force
should help you determine who to pick for this job. I would hope you would choose the guy who
played team sports over the guy who did not. I played baseball and soccer throughout all four years

Teaching of Discipleship on a Christian of Today.
AO2: Explain how this teaching about discipleship might affect the life of a Christian today.
Christian discipleship involves faith and commitment to God, self sacrifice, service to others,
using your time, money and energy, as God wants you to not as the world tempts you to. It also
involves belonging to God s own family, the church, and daily commitments with God. Modern day
disciples like Ghandi, (even though he was non Christian) acted as true modern day disciple with
his total commitment, self sacrifice and energy he put into leading India to independence by
inspiring movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. We can see that they acted...

And example of this would be my Granda who risked his life to save a mother and child from a
house that was burning to the ground, an almost certain death situation. He put his needs before his
own and renounced self.
To take up cross is probably one of the most challenging commands of Jesus. Mark was writing his
gospel at a time when many Christians were dying for their belief in Jesus. Crucifixion was a
real possibility. There have been times since then, even to the present day, when Christians have
been persecuted for their beliefs like Nelson Mandela, who believed in the rights of different
races, whatever their colour and was imprisoned for 27 years in which he only saw his wife three
times.
To follow him means accepting the Christian way of life and treading in the footsteps of Jesus,
following his examples as closely as possible. Obedience to the will of God and putting others
first may lead to suffering as it did for Jesus. However, the invitation to Follow me also holds the
promise of sharing in Christ s resurrected life.
I believe that modern day influences can cast a certain cloud over Christianity. Yet there are still
those people who fight back to the discrimination and racial prejudice in our societies. Those are
the true disciples of Jesus Christ. He who hears the message should carry out the message. People
should stop thinking about what they take out of the world, but instead what they put back into

My Long Term Educational And Professional Goals
When beginning the psychology major, I was unsure of what my long term educational and
professional goals were. Now that I am in my senior year, I am still not positive about my path
overall path. However, I do have a plan that I feel will work perfect for me. I am reaching a time in
my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have
the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home
before the children enter preschool. Once the children are entered in school, I feel it would be a
good time for me to either go back to school or choose a career I can achieve with my bachelor s
degree. If I were to go back to school, it would most likely be to obtain a master s degree for
counseling. I am very interested in Central Washington University s Master Degree in Applied
Behavior Analysis. In ten years, if I complete my masters, I see myself working with families,
children or adolescents. This might be either in an office setting or school setting. I know that I
would not want to go to the client s home as the primary setting.
There are several ways in which the courses I have taken at Central Washington University have
influenced personal growth for my educational goals. First, taking PSY 300 research methods, PSY
362 introductory statistics and participating in directed research has contributed immensely to my
personal growth. Writing a research proposal in PSY 300 was very

New Semi Empirical Design Procedures For The Determination...
Karlsrud(2014) proposed new semi empirical design procedures for the determination of
ultimate shaft friction and load displacement response of axially loaded piles in clay are
proposed. A main basis for developing the new procedures was detailed review and reassessment
of results from a series of pile load test programs published over the past 30 years on piles well
instrumented to monitor soil and pore pressures as well as load distribution along the pile
shafts. Two new alternative procedures are proposed for predicting the ultimate shaft friction: an
a approach, which uses the normalized un drained strength based on direct simple shear tests as
a main correlation parameter, and a b approach, which uses the over consolidation ratio (OCR).
Both approaches include the effects of the plasticity index of the clay, Ip, which is shown to have
an especially large impact on the correlations when Ip 25%. In practical design, it is recommended
that both methods be used and design values be selected for the ultimate shaft friction that
represents an average for the two methods. Pile diameter, length, or stiffness or whether the pile is
open or closed ended seem to have little impact on the shaft friction. However, a moderate effect of
pile length or flexibility on the total ultimate pile capacity comes out of the proposed t z curves,
which include some post peak reduction. The main purpose of the study was to reduce the basic
uncertainties involved with relating ultimate shaft

Theory of evolution
Evolution can be defined as any change in the heritable traits within a population across
generations . (what is evolution, stated clearly YouTube, 2016). Every living creature can
reproduce making another copy of themselves with small variations. The variation can consist of
characteristics Like the passing down of fur colour in mice or the development of the length in cane
toad s legs. When these changes occur to their offspring s, evolution has taken place. Whilst many
scientists believed in the theory of evolution, alters to the belief extended to a certain extent.
Throughout this essay two scientists, Charles Darwin and Jean Baptiste Lamarck, beliefs opinions
and theories of evolution will be deconstructed.
Charles Darwin s theory
It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most
responsive to change (good reads, Origin of the species quotes, 2016) Charles Robert Darwin, was
an English naturalist and geologist, best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. Born
on the 12 February 1809, United Kingdom, Darwin wrote his discoveries and theories in his book
Origin of the species which became very successful when published. He based his theory on natural
section. A process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and
produce more offspring. Darwin believed changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its
environment will help it survive and have

Video Editing Essay
TASK 1 PROPOSAL (Typed document minimum 1000 words)
Special investigation into editing
I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the
software that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid
has always been a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls
premier pro is just edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it
the better choice for editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the
software are updated, for the software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by
educational establishments for training people to use software like this in the future as in the last
few years final cut has dropped down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less
consumer friendly for use then premier and avid, This is reason for it being used in education.
Methodology of Video Editing
There are several different ways to edit video and each method has its pros and cons. Although
most editors go for non linear editing for most projects, it makes sense to have an understanding of
how each method works, as some people prefer different options or how some look, i.e Vintage

Several factors as it relates to the Macro Environment can impact and influence Virgin Atlantic

covers every aspect of managing change, including essential principles, managing stakeholders,
dealing with resisters, building effective change teams and more.
Introduction
Significant organizational change occurs, for example, when an organization changes its overall
strategy for success, adds or removes a major section or practice, and/or wants to change the very
nature by which it operates. It also occurs when an organization evolves through various life cycles,
just like people must successfully evolve through life cycles. For organizations to develop, they
often must undergo significant change at various points in their development. That s why the topic
of organizational change and development has become widespread in communications about
business, organizations, leadership and management.
Leaders and managers continually make efforts to accomplish successful and significant change it s
inherent in their jobs. Some are very good at this effort (probably more than we realize), while
others continually struggle and fail. That s often the difference between people who thrive in their
roles and those that get shuttled around from job to job, ultimately settling into a role where they re
frustrated and ineffective.
There are many schools with educational programs about organizations, business, leadership and
management. Unfortunately, there still are not

F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited
As one of the most well known writers of the 20th century, F. Scott Fitzgerald is noted for his work
revolving around the cultural dynamic of the 1920s. The author continues this topic trend in his
short story, Babylon Revisited. Instead of America, the story takes place in Paris just after the stock
market crash of 1929, contriubting to Fitzgerald s overall message. The protagonist, Charlie Wales,
has returned to France in hopes of regaining custody over his daughter. Fitzgerald developes an
international criticism of Americans lavish lifestyle in the infamous Roaring 20s through the
characters contrasting priorities, clever symbolism, and the format of the story itself. While his
other works critiquing 1920s American society was evident due in part to their local settings,

Throughout the short story, Fitzgerald strategically incorporates statements that develop a contrast
between countries economic statuses and materialistic values of the time period. From Charlie s
first encounter with his in laws, the phrase American is used to describe anything, in the main
character s opinion, pleasent. For example, The room was warm and comfortably American, and
She was a tall women with worried eyes, who had once possessed a fresh American loveliness
(677). Intentionally, Fitzgerald does not use the term French as a complimentary adjective in order
to emphasize the glamorized idea of American opportunity and wealth of the twenties. He presents
this difference in cultural values more blatantly later as Charlie and his in laws discuss the
guardianship of his daughter, Honoria. After Charlie stops himself in the middle listing his

Considering I usually care for adults aged 18 and up, while caring for this patient I changed my
approach. Due to the age of this patient, I found myself explaining the plan of care not only to the
patient but to his mother as well. I have conflicting views on the child s treatments and had set my
beliefs aside; as I know that ethnocentrism is not effective in the nursing care. The interventions I
used with this patient were given without judgment, simply discharge orders suggested by the
doctor and medication education. In this case, I had to explain to the patient and his family that
the doctor felt the herbs the child was taking, could possibly be causing him harm. I explained that
the herbs may have resulted in a higher than normal pulse, which is hard on his heart and not
supplying proper blood flow throughout the body which in turn decreases the oxygen saturation
level. By asking the family to discontinue the child s herbal medicine, I felt I was going against
their cultural beliefs.
The next intervention I implemented with this patient was addressing a lifestyle adjustment, as the
child is overweight and appears overwhelmed with his studies. I encouraged the patient to eat a
healthy diet with written guidelines and stressed the importance of implementing a daily exercise
routine into his life.

Analysis Of When Dreams Come True
Art is the expression of one s creative skill, which can be expressed in many different forms.
Sculptures, paintings, clothing, music, and poems are just a few of the vast art forms. Artwork
comes not only in different forms, but different styles as well, such as abstract, representational,
and nonrepresentational styles, which are some of the most common in the world of art. When
it comes to the history, medium, and technique of an artwork, there are two specific pieces that
really stand out to me. When Dreams Come True by Leonid Afremov and Mariposa by Beatriz
Milhazes are two masterfully crafted works of art that caught my eye almost immediately.
Leonid Afremov is a modern impressionistic style of an artist. Impressionist paintings seek to
recreate the viewer s or artists general impression of a depicted scene. The style is generally
characterized by faint outlines and small brushstrokes of various colors, that the eye tends to
blend together at a distance. Representational is a word commonly used to describe art forms that
relate to the natural world in which we live in and are easily translated by the audience, which is
exactly what Leonid Afremov did with When Dreams Come True while using abstract, or out of
the ordinary, colorways. The history behind this artwork is shown in the 19th century
impressionistic style that is used as well as the vibrant and contrasting colors used. Afremov took
advantage of this color palette in order to get a message across that

Maya Case Study Essay
Having read and researched Maya s case study the first question I asked myself was, what is an
Adaptation within the human body? My understanding is that an adaptation within the body is
the long term physiological changes in response to frequent training, allowing the body to meet
new demands and help in the additional stresses that are placed on the body itself. In the case of
Maya, I have studied the chronic adaptations of Maya s muscular and cardiorespiratory system as
a response to her three months training and indeed her target goal to return to her preferred sport
of tennis. I believe that although Maya would be training in the correct way, playing tennis again
as well as the exercise regime she has designed would enable her to return to a good level of
fitness, and the standard that she had previously played. Maya s exercise regime would enable her
to strengthen her requirement and aspirations to play tennis again. Training exercises when lifting

Maya s resting heart rate would also decrease as her training progresses due to the circulatory
system being more efficient. Accumulating lactic acid is much lower during higher levels of
activity, due to the circulatory system providing more oxygen resulting in the removal of waste
products faster. Arterial walls become more elasticated which allows greater tolerance of changes
in blood pressure. This would result in respiratory muscles (Diaphragm/intercostals) increasing in
strength thus giving a larger respiratory volume, which would allow more oxygen to be diffused
into the blood flow (VO2 max). This effect on Maya s body would lead to an increase in the
number and diameter of capillaries surrounding the alveoli leads to an increase in the efficiency of

Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton
Michealangelo, perhaps the most gifted sculptor and painter of all times, once said that geniuses
stand on the shoulders of other geniuses. As Michelangelo built upon the brilliance of his
predecessors, Anne Sexton does the same in her collection of poems entitled Transformations. She
renovated fairy tales as told by the Brothers Grimm by adding her own life experiences and view of
contemporary culture, hammering away until she built an entirely new art form. Anne Sexton has
had a notable effect upon the literary genre of fairy tales through this shocking transformation of
classic tales.

well received and marked the beginning of her rise to the top. 1967 another major year in Sexton
s career; she won the Pulitzer Prize for Live or Die. Transformations, her book of poetic fairy
tales, was published later in 1971. On October 4, 1974, shortly after the release of Transformations,
Anne could no longer stand the pressures of her existence and committed suicide.
This biographical information is essential to understanding Anne Sexton s influence on the fairy tale
because her transformations of the Grimm Brother s work rises out of her personal turmoil.
Most of Sexton s works before and after Transformations are of the confessional style, but
through her poetic transformations of fairy tales, Sexton gives herself a more discrete outlet for
her passions (Ostriker 255). Her biographer Diane Middlebrook notes that the poems were a way
to place her struggles in legend rather than personal history (37). The intensely metaphorical
characters of Sexton s fairy poetry are one example of this. For instance, Judith the cold and
neglectful mother in Snow White surely represents Sexton s own callous mother (Middlebrook
37). Sexton s father is also recognizable in her work as

the host, who orchestrates the whole banquet process. When the banquet begins, the bride needs to
change into another casual dress. Then the bride and groom need to toast to each guest according
to the table arrangement. After the banquet has ended, the bride and groom have to stand in the

Sigmund Freud And The Grinch
Sigmund Freud who was an Austrian neurologist believes that personality consists of three
interacting structures: the id, the ego, and the superego. The Grinch was a very angry person, he
had demonstrated so much aggression towards the who s which lead to the destruction of the
who s Christmas. The fact that his desire was to ruin the who s Christmas proves that he is a
heartless human being. The id demands immediate satisfaction and when this happens we
experience pleasure, when it is denied we experience pain. The Grinch has had a rough
childhood. As a child he did not fit in, because of his looks, as he was just different from others.
His miserable childhood is the true cause of his aggression. This is where his id takes over. The

The Environmental Crisis Of Kenya And The United Nations...
The environmental crisis is the biggest crisis of our time, climate change, scarcity of fresh water
and bio diversity loss are just a few of the problems caused by the environmental crisis. National and
international organizations try combat the dire effects of the environmental crisis like The Green
Belt Movement in Kenya and The United Nations framework on Environmental Change, they
create initiatives like sustainable developmentbut they have not succeeded. My essay will introduce
my interpretation of the environmental crisis, then follow with the relationship between poverty
and affluence discussed by scholars Deborah Sik in, Environmentand Development and Maggie
Black in, Enter Sustainability and propose, Deborah Sik s insights on propertyrights and
participatory approaches offer the best explanation for the environmental crisis but Maggie Black s
Resource Based Management for small communities gives better long lasting solutions for the
environmental crisis.
My interpretation of environmental crisis and why it has grown exponentially. The environmental
crisis is the most exigent matter of our time. This is evident by environmental changes today, for
example in Enter Sustainability, Maggie Black discusses the probability for water wars due to
over extraction and consumption of water (Black). This claim is corroborated by an article by The
Smithsonian suggesting that shrink water aquifers captured by NASA are partly to blame for the
war in

Determine The Identity Of An Unknown Weak Acid Lab Report
Determining the Identity of an Unknown weak acid (Vernier)
Formal Lab Report
Kelli McWatters
August 7, 2017
Chem 1121
Dr. Reed
Objective:
Observe and measure a weak acid neutralization and determine the unknown identity of an unknown
acid by titration.
Introduction:
Within an acid base titration the titration curve resembles the strengths of the corresponding
acids and bases. A strong acid will correspond with a weak conjugate base, and a weak conjugate
acid will correspond with a strong base. This is based on the Bronsted Lowry model. The weak acid
will donate protons to the hydroxide ion. Weak acids will have a low Ka value, the Ka value is the
tendency of the acid to dissociate: Ka= [H+] [A ] [HA] Ka is the acid dissociation constant and
[HA] is the concentration of the weak acid . Strong acids usually completely dissociate and has a
Ka value greater than 1. Weak acids don t dissociate completely and have a Ka value much smaller
than 1. pKa values are often used for weak acids due to being able to work with whole numbers
pKa = log Ka During a titration the pH of the solution will be monitored using a pH meter from that
we get a titration curve. The titration curve is then used to determine the equivalent molecular
weight and Ka value of the unknown weak acid, from that we are

Racial Differences Between Racial And Ethnic Backgrounds
It does not take much for someone to realize that in today s society, there are still inequalities in
our country. America may be a hundred and fifty years past the civil war when white and black
racial lines were erased, but they are more present today than in recent years. The recurrence of
these racial lines has been caused by the economic gap, violence on the streets, and
miscommunication of facts.
The economic gap has been growing drastically between racial and ethnic backgrounds. According
to a study by the Pew Research Center this wealth gap has been growing since the Great Recession.
In their study, they found that white individuals had thirteen times greater net worth and when
looking at white to Hispanic, white individuals had ten times greater net worth. White individuals
in the study had a median net worth in 2013 $141,900. Black individuals had a median net worth
of $11,000. Hispanics have a median net worth of $13,700 (Fry and Kochhar). Racism is not just
centered on the amount of money each individual has but the effects of not having enough to
provide the necessities and what it can do to an individual in need. When children are starving
and the mother is not able to provide for them something clicks and all morality is out the window.
The mother does not have a choice but to break the law in any manner to get ahead because she is
placed on such an uneven playing field.
The economic gap stuns economic growth for our country because there are less and less

Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of...
Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south
eastern regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and
passed around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to
collisions of principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two
dominant divisions of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravadaand Mahayana. While
Theravada strand, which is also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the
south eastern region of Asia such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is
also known as the northern school of Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as
China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences
between the schools of Theravada and Mahayana.
Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once
a single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of
Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels
or refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one.
Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism.
Secondly, Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path,
the Three

Sea Dragons, a Marine Fish Essay
Did you see that? Looking in the sea of the south and west tropical coast of Austria a diver
observing very closely in the sea can easily miss this genital, well camouflaged marine fish in
plain sight, the sea dragon. Although they are very similar to the seahorse, sea dragons are quite
different in amazing ways and are divided into two diverse genus and species, Phycodurus eques
(Leafy Sea Dragons) and Phyllopteryx taeniolatus (Weedy Sea Dragons). Here you will learn about
the taxonomic classification (Kingdom, Phylums/Division, Class, Order, Family Genus, Species),
physical characteristics/ biology, habitat, ecology, and much more. Let us examine this creature
more closely.

Also, like seahorses they have a horse like head and a fused jaw(National Geographic). On the
other hand there are differences and both sea dragons take on the appearance of seaweed and
kelp to blend in with their habitat. The leafy seadragon, phycodurus eques have appendages that
are leaf like in appearance, ranging from different sizes along its head, body, and tail. Spaking of
size, a adult leafy seadragon can reach a lighth of 20 24cm(8 10 inches) in some cases up to
35cm(1.1ft) in total length ; this is impressive size for a marine fish in the syngnathidae family, but
is smaller than its close cousin, the weedy dragon ,which averages 30cm and can reach up to
45cm (1.5ft)( PRIMEFACT). Although their appendages are not used for locomotion, using
small, transparent pectoral fins, which are located on the neck, and a dorsal fin that run along
the seadragon s back are used to make tiny movements through the water columnv(Yankalilla).
Also extending from their hard bony plated body are long sharp spines that can serve for defense
purposes (Mlssa). Concerning leafy seadragons color it is said that in shallow water they are
yellow brown or greenish with dark pink rib bands and green brown pronounced leafy appendages;
in deeper water, those that live there are dark brown to burgundy red. In contrast the weedy
seadragon, Phyllopteryx taeniolatus, is usually reddish in color with yellow spots. Their boney

The Bernie Gallow Case
Bernie Gallow was an honorable person and Good man aged 58, so it was quite shocking for a
man who was thought to have no enemies killed. The only thing to find more shocking was who
was responsible for it. This case was in 2011 in the town of Aurora. Bernie was an Auburnhigh
school graduate of 71 and a graduate of Cayuga Community College as well. Bernie was a sheriff s
deputy for 28 years, a former marine for four years, a former volunteer fire fighter, and a hockey
couch in auburn. He had three children and was married when he died, many remember him as a
hero which is what he was and what he accomplished for this county will always stand as is.

Bernie was retired and sometimes worked as a court officer as well as worked out a lot, he was a
black belt in martial arts which he also taught classes for and was described by those that knew
him as laid back but was ambitious to complete cases and was serious about his job that he loved.
He worked all over Cayuga county and was known to do a lot of night shifts and his partners on
those shifts, they remember him fondly and never said a bad word about his actions or who he
was. Sounding much more like a preacher than a cop. He would never yell if needed, just tell you
what you should be doing or what you re doing wrong. Bernie was murdered by his son Michael
because of an altercation, Michael was tried and pled guilty, getting convicted.
Michael Gallow was known throughout his life to have mental problems and a drinking
problems, also add the fact he had poor education didn t help his life, in the past Michael was
also accused of stealing as well. Michael and his father in a way never seemed to see eye to eye but
Bernie loved him very much, which is how the case came to a start. Michael came home drunk in

Truck Bed Rails Essay
One of the best things about owning a truck is the fact that you have all that room in the bed.
However, you will find that it can be a bit difficult to protect the sides of the bed from scratches,
dents and dings. One of the best options is to install truck bed rails; these devices not only protect
your truckfrom the ravages of cargo, but also can help create a dramatic sense of style for your ride.
Of course, the solution is not as simple as popping a couple of rails on your truck and hauling off
down the road. You ll need to follow a few steps to get the look and protection that you need.
1. Choose Your Rails You will first need to find truck bed rails that fit your make and model. As
with most other accessories, rails that fit a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither half rails nor full rails provide protection for the lip of the tailgate or the portion of the bed
underneath the rear windshield.
3. Determine the Metal Type As mentioned, most truck bed rails are made with tubular steel.
However, you should ensure that yours are created with chromed (or powder coated) stainless
steel to ensure the utmost in durability and quality. Choosing a set of rails made with inferior
metal will result in a short lived solution that looks bad after only a year or two out in the weather.
4. Determine the Installation Method Several types of installation are used to mount different
types of truck bed rails. You will need to find a set that is simple and easy to install. Most sets are
available with no drill installation; however, if you choose a set that does require drilling, be
prepared for a bit of effort.
5. Warranty Coverage No matter what style of rails you purchase, you must ensure that the
manufacturer offers a warranty. This will save your investment in the case of early discoloration,
cracking or other damage that is not caused directly by you. You should never purchase rails from a
manufacturer that does not offer a lifetime

I carefully carry their stuff out only for them to look at the ground mutter thank you and retreat to their cars. It can get really frustrating when this happens because people always seem to expect us to do it. They do not understand what a serviceis. People always say that waiters and waitresses have it rough because most of their wages come from tips, but Americans have ingrained into their mind that the waiter must always be tipped. A reader can also find that the story has symbolism in two major ways. The first example of symbolism exists within the child. The child represents the downfall of love. The second example of symbolism can be acquainted to the stages of grief. The reader having these views greatly alters their perception of the story. When observing the text the reader can come up with a simple summary. Two parents fight over a child. In the event of the fight the child is put between the parents. These emotions are mostly linked with anger. Once this finishes bargaining begins. She tries to bargain with the husband over the baby s future home, whether it be hers, or his. This doesn t work. Depression plays a major role within the text, as the entire tone can be considered depressing. With a dark and gloomy setting, and a family filled of sadness and hate towards each other. The final stage of the story and grief is acceptance. In the events that occur acceptance eventually arrives. Though involuntary, acceptance occurs in the end. • 4. Essay on The Role of Labor in American History This brief history of more than 100 years of the modern trade union movement in the United States can only touch the high spots of activity and identify the principal trends of a century of achievement. In such a condensation of history, episodes of importance and of great human drama must necessarily be discussed far too briefly, or in some cases relegated to a mere mention. What is clearly evident, however, is that the working people of America have had to unite in struggle to achieve the gains that they have accumulated during this century. Improvements did not come easily. Organizing unions, winning the right to representation, using the collective bargaining process as the core of their activities, struggling against bias and ... The civil rights act of 1964 finally ended segregation in public places. The civil rights was first proposed by president John F. Kennedy, despite all the oppression from southern council members. Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg board of education. Presented to the Supreme Court in 1971 this case was to determine wether the respondents idea of the desegregation plan was an effective and reasonable attempt. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family, Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she dropped out of school to join the theater. The biggest issue for Hedy while she was married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career. Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it; stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33 movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create. Transportation management: Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management. Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the movement of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer safely. Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the produced product on the same site is almost negligible. Based on the map that showed where the lawsuits were filed, at the time the video, in 31 states but not in New Jersey, and not in all 50 states which I found interesting. Another factor that could play a role in the composition of those interviewed is how many people they interviewed and whether they only interviewed those with negative feelings toward Walmart. If they only interviewed people who were upset with Walmart the results would be expected to be as they were, but if they interviewed ten or fifteen random people and got the same response, it would have a better chance at being accurate and not biased. Lastly when the people felt like they were being discriminated against, were there people of different ethnicities, males and females that thought they were being discriminated against other than those shown in the video clip? Although knight s dominated the battlefield and had a huge cultural value in society you cannot ignore the impact that technology has had on their role. These technological advances such as the longbow, the introduction of light cavalry and developments such as gunpowder and artillery, the tactical developments such as sieges and the general organisation surrounding warfare resulted in knights declining in social value, status and affectability as well as a more dramatic yet gradual metamorphosis into the heavily armoured tank divisions in today s modern armies. This is demonstrated mainly by the speed and manoeuvrability riding on horseback provided. Speed could be converted into shock as the enemy if unaware of a knight s potential power ground could be covered quickly before the enemy had a chance to provide a defence mechanism and would have no option to surrender. This however was only evident in the early Middle Ages, showing that heavy cavalry would not be the most dominant force throughout the entirety of the Middle Ages. However this speed and manoeuvrability did not always result in the knight being the dominant figure. The knight may have been dominant in the West where the terrain was favourable and the heat moderate but when traveling to Jerusalem for the crusades they were less well suited to endurance in a hot climate and clumsy and unmanoeuvrable making them ineffective and vulnerable to the enemy. This shows how even though they may dominant warfare in Western Europe they were too heavy to cover ground effectively and not as moveable as the lighter eastern cavalry, which weighed approximately 700 to 900lbs to the Western 1,200 to ... Paston s poetry is self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her style is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to many other poets. • 14. Escapism in Children s Literature Children s literature can take many forms, from far fetching science fiction to spell binding who done it mysteries. One of the most popular ideas presented in these various forms is that of escapism. The characters in these stories explore quite complex social issues in ways that are less confrontational then realism. One might consider why escape is such a central theme; as a child there are numerous benefits to fantasy, it allows readers to experiment with different views of the world and takes hypothetical situations and invites them to make connections between this fictive scenario and their own reality. John Stephens an English professor at Macquarie University has said Fantasy writing operates through metaphor so that the unfamiliar is used to stand in for, or comment upon, the familiar. The use of metaphor in Fantasy makes it more open to different readings and meanings. Take J.M. Barrie s fantasy novel Alice s Adventures in Wonderland as an example. Barrie uses his story to transport Alice to an unknown world full of backwards words and talking animals. This allows Alice to escape the boredom of picture less books and adult conversations that were beginning to consume her. Similar in theory is Neil Gaiman s style of writing. Gaiman has produced a number of Victorian influenced fantasy novels for children, including Coraline. Coraline, like Alice centers on a young girl entering another world. Escape can be seem in many books for children but one story in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of increased mobility due to globalization, health professionals are able to cross borders with stunning speed in order to deliver care and patients in need of certain treatments have benefited from the ability to leave their country for care. The Internet makes it easier to alert the relevant authorities to the outbreak of a disease and to share information on health issues. However, globalization has had negative effects on health as well. When the Europeans first traveled and colonized the world, they brought with them terrible diseases, killing over 90% of the population. The Aztec, Maya, and Inca tribes were the most affected by these diseases. International travel and globalization has brought many diseases, previously native to certain countries, all over the world. For example, Chagas Disease, a disease spread by insects brought over from Mexican immigrants, has infected more than 500,000 citizens of America. Illegal drug trade, another result of globalization, is also having a negative effect on health. Another negative effect of globalization is the recognition of medical degrees of less developed countries by developed countries. Young medical professionals from less developed countries finish their training in developed nations and tend to stay to develop their careers and raise their families. This drains less developed countries of needed health care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. The Big Shift By Darrel Bricker And John Ibbitson The thesis put forth by Darrel Bricker and John Ibbitson in The Big Shift: The Seismic Change in Canadian Politics, Business, and Culture and What It Means for Our Future , is premised on the notion that the Laurentian Consensus has ended due to its reluctance to accept the changes that Canada has gone, and will go through. They argue that their resistance to change created an opportunity for the Conservative party to become the new natural governing party in Canada (Bricker Ibbitson, 2013). By recognizing and acting on these changes, the Conservative party built a platform for success which lead to the outcome of the 2011 federal election. They argue that the seismic shift in the demographics of Canadian voters from one side of the political spectrum to the other granted Conservatives this victory. This paper will explore the flaws within their argument, and the extent to which this shift is perpetual in nature. The Laurentian Consensus can be defined as the collective rule by those along the St. Lawrence River including Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec political, business, academic, cultural and media elites. This long standing coalition, closely linked with the ideas and values of the Liberal party has been the reigning power in Canadian government over the last century. Knowing as an owner that this guy was a star on the baseball team, and a great leader with a lot of skills required to be successful in the work force should help you determine who to pick for this job. • 21. Teaching of Discipleship on a Christian of Today. AO2: Explain how this teaching about discipleship might affect the life of a Christian today. Christian discipleship involves faith and commitment to God, self sacrifice, service to others, using your time, money and energy, as God wants you to not as the world tempts you to. It also involves belonging to God s own family, the church, and daily commitments with God. Modern day disciples like Ghandi, (even though he was non Christian) acted as true modern day disciple with his total commitment, self sacrifice and energy he put into leading India to independence by inspiring movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. And example of this would be my Granda who risked his life to save a mother and child from a house that was burning to the ground, an almost certain death situation. He put his needs before his own and renounced self. To take up cross is probably one of the most challenging commands of Jesus. Mark was writing his gospel at a time when many Christians were dying for their belief in Jesus. Crucifixion was a real possibility. There have been times since then, even to the present day, when Christians have been persecuted for their beliefs like Nelson Mandela, who believed in the rights of different races, whatever their colour and was imprisoned for 27 years in which he only saw his wife three times. To follow him means accepting the Christian way of life and treading in the footsteps of Jesus, following his examples as closely as possible. Obedience to the will of God and putting others first may lead to suffering as it did for Jesus. However, the invitation to Follow me also holds the promise of sharing in Christ s resurrected life. I believe that modern day influences can cast a certain cloud over Christianity. Yet there are still those people who fight back to the discrimination and racial prejudice in our societies. Those are the true disciples of Jesus Christ. He who hears the message should carry out the message. People should stop thinking about what they take out of the world, but instead what they put back into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am reaching a time in my life where I will be financial stable, be married, have a partner to share responsibilities, and have the knowledge to be the best parent possible. I think it is important for one parent to be home before the children enter preschool. • 23. New Semi Empirical Design Procedures For The Determination... Karlsrud(2014) proposed new semi empirical design procedures for the determination of ultimate shaft friction and load displacement response of axially loaded piles in clay are proposed. A main basis for developing the new procedures was detailed review and reassessment of results from a series of pile load test programs published over the past 30 years on piles well instrumented to monitor soil and pore pressures as well as load distribution along the pile shafts. Two new alternative procedures are proposed for predicting the ultimate shaft friction: an a approach, which uses the normalized un drained strength based on direct simple shear tests as a main correlation parameter, and a b approach, which uses the over consolidation ratio (OCR). Both approaches include the effects of the plasticity index of the clay, Ip, which is shown to have an especially large impact on the correlations when Ip 25%. In practical design, it is recommended that both methods be used and design values be selected for the ultimate shaft friction that represents an average for the two methods. Pile diameter, length, or stiffness or whether the pile is open or closed ended seem to have little impact on the shaft friction. However, a moderate effect of pile length or flexibility on the total ultimate pile capacity comes out of the proposed t z curves, which include some post peak reduction. The main purpose of the study was to reduce the basic uncertainties involved with relating ultimate shaft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My understanding is that an adaptation within the body is the long term physiological changes in response to frequent training, allowing the body to meet new demands and help in the additional stresses that are placed on the body itself. In the case of Maya, I have studied the chronic adaptations of Maya s muscular and cardiorespiratory system as a response to her three months training and indeed her target goal to return to her preferred sport of tennis. I believe that although Maya would be training in the correct way, playing tennis again as well as the exercise regime she has designed would enable her to return to a good level of fitness, and the standard that she had previously played. • 42. The Environmental Crisis Of Kenya And The United Nations... The environmental crisis is the biggest crisis of our time, climate change, scarcity of fresh water and bio diversity loss are just a few of the problems caused by the environmental crisis. National and international organizations try combat the dire effects of the environmental crisis like The Green Belt Movement in Kenya and The United Nations framework on Environmental Change, they create initiatives like sustainable developmentbut they have not succeeded. My essay will introduce my interpretation of the environmental crisis, then follow with the relationship between poverty and affluence discussed by scholars Deborah Sik in, Environmentand Development and Maggie Black in, Enter Sustainability and propose, Deborah Sik s insights on propertyrights and participatory approaches offer the best explanation for the environmental crisis but Maggie Black s Resource Based Management for small communities gives better long lasting solutions for the environmental crisis. My interpretation of environmental crisis and why it has grown exponentially. The environmental crisis is the most exigent matter of our time. This is evident by environmental changes today, for example in Enter Sustainability, Maggie Black discusses the probability for water wars due to over extraction and consumption of water (Black). This claim is corroborated by an article by The Smithsonian suggesting that shrink water aquifers captured by NASA are partly to blame for the war in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Determine The Identity Of An Unknown Weak Acid Lab Report Determining the Identity of an Unknown weak acid (Vernier) Formal Lab Report Kelli McWatters August 7, 2017 Chem 1121 Dr. Reed Objective: Observe and measure a weak acid neutralization and determine the unknown identity of an unknown acid by titration. Introduction: Within an acid base titration the titration curve resembles the strengths of the corresponding acids and bases. A strong acid will correspond with a weak conjugate base, and a weak conjugate acid will correspond with a strong base. This is based on the Bronsted Lowry model. The weak acid will donate protons to the hydroxide ion. Weak acids will have a low Ka value, the Ka value is the tendency of the acid to dissociate: Ka= [H+] [A ] [HA] Ka is the acid dissociation constant and [HA] is the concentration of the weak acid . Strong acids usually completely dissociate and has a Ka value greater than 1. Weak acids don t dissociate completely and have a Ka value much smaller than 1. pKa values are often used for weak acids due to being able to work with whole numbers pKa = log Ka During a titration the pH of the solution will be monitored using a pH meter from that we get a titration curve. The titration curve is then used to determine the equivalent molecular weight and Ka value of the unknown weak acid, from that we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Racial Differences Between Racial And Ethnic Backgrounds It does not take much for someone to realize that in today s society, there are still inequalities in our country. America may be a hundred and fifty years past the civil war when white and black racial lines were erased, but they are more present today than in recent years. The recurrence of these racial lines has been caused by the economic gap, violence on the streets, and miscommunication of facts. The economic gap has been growing drastically between racial and ethnic backgrounds. According to a study by the Pew Research Center this wealth gap has been growing since the Great Recession. In their study, they found that white individuals had thirteen times greater net worth and when looking at white to Hispanic, white individuals had ten times greater net worth. White individuals in the study had a median net worth in 2013 $141,900. Black individuals had a median net worth of $11,000. Hispanics have a median net worth of $13,700 (Fry and Kochhar). Racism is not just centered on the amount of money each individual has but the effects of not having enough to provide the necessities and what it can do to an individual in need. When children are starving and the mother is not able to provide for them something clicks and all morality is out the window. The mother does not have a choice but to break the law in any manner to get ahead because she is placed on such an uneven playing field. The economic gap stuns economic growth for our country because there are less and less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of... Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south eastern regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and passed around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to collisions of principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two dominant divisions of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravadaand Mahayana. While Theravada strand, which is also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the south eastern region of Asia such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is also known as the northern school of Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences between the schools of Theravada and Mahayana. Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once a single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels or refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one. Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism. Secondly, Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the Three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, like seahorses they have a horse like head and a fused jaw(National Geographic). On the other hand there are differences and both sea dragons take on the appearance of seaweed and kelp to blend in with their habitat. The leafy seadragon, phycodurus eques have appendages that are leaf like in appearance, ranging from different sizes along its head, body, and tail. Spaking of size, a adult leafy seadragon can reach a lighth of 20 24cm(8 10 inches) in some cases up to 35cm(1.1ft) in total length ; this is impressive size for a marine fish in the syngnathidae family, but is smaller than its close cousin, the weedy dragon ,which averages 30cm and can reach up to 45cm (1.5ft)( PRIMEFACT). Although their appendages are not used for locomotion, using small, transparent pectoral fins, which are located on the neck, and a dorsal fin that run along the seadragon s back are used to make tiny movements through the water columnv(Yankalilla). Also extending from their hard bony plated body are long sharp spines that can serve for defense purposes (Mlssa). Concerning leafy seadragons color it is said that in shallow water they are yellow brown or greenish with dark pink rib bands and green brown pronounced leafy appendages; in deeper water, those that live there are dark brown to burgundy red. This will save your investment in the case of early discoloration, cracking or other damage that is not caused directly by you.
