Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Test Of The Great...
Throughout time The Test of the Great Bow has been interpreted in many different ways. Through
Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, Thomas O Grady s poem The Test of the Bow , and Romare
Bearden s painting The Bow of Odysseus. All three share the same story of Odysseus journey to go
home, string his bow, and win back his beloved wife Penelope. All of the authors interpretations have
similarities and differences shown through tone, conflict and theme through each piece. The readers
are given three very different ideas of tone through each interpretation. Both Homer s 21 book of The
Odyssey, and the poem The Test of the Bow have very similar tones. They both have a powerful and
revitalizing tones. This is because they both focus on Odysseus ... Show more content on

Once you know your own strengths anything is possible and don t doubt the underdog. The Contest
with Odysseus Bow shows this by having the suitors think Odysseus is a poor, irrelevant beggar.
However, he proves himself to be the strongest when he did not miss, not even a single top on all the
axe heads. (Homer 65 66) In The Test of the Bow once Odysseus knew his strengths and what he
could do he proved himself the master of them all. (O Grady 15) Bearden s painting shows not to
doubt the underdog. Bearden made it appear that the suitors were not paying any attention to Odysseus
in the slightest. They had no faith in him and didn t think much of

Role Of Thought Police In George Orwell s 1984
The novel 1984 written by Gorge Orwell is a satire about the socialist dictatorships of Russia and
Germany. 1984 was written as a look into the future if political powers adopted a totalitarian
government. The Government of 1984 is a totalitarian socialist dictatorship. The names of the
government system are INGSOC or The Party. The totalitarian dictatorship, INGSOC, maintains and
abuses power through the Thought Police, newspeak, and technology. The Thought Police are
members of The Party who watched everybody all the time to see if they are acting against The Party
(Orwell 3). Thought crimes include thinking an anti Party thought, writing in a journal, and physically
acting against The Party. Thought Police help INGSOC maintain power because anyone who goes
against The Party, even thinks an anti party thought, will be vaporized or tortured into supporting the
government. INGSOC and the Thought Police encouraged children to turn in their parents for thought
crime. The Thought Police help The Party maintain power by killing or brainwashing people who act
against INGSOC. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Syme gives a description of Newspeak, in which he articulates that the words being taken out of the
language are anti Party words. The reduction of anti party words means that The Party is making
thought crime literally impossible (Orwell 52). Newspeak will also limit the range of thought by
changing definitions of words. A definition change makes words only be useable in certain context
and unable to be used to negatively describe The Party. Newspeak s shrinking vocabulary helps The
Party maintain power because anti party words are completely extinguished; causing people to be
unable to start revolts and commit thought

Essay God Works Through Jacob to Help Achieve His Divine Plan
God interacts with the world in a very unique way. He works by using people as conduits with whom
He will ultimately achieve His goal of the Divine Plan. Throughout the Book of Genesis, many cycles
of protagonists appear with whom God chooses to interact. In one such cycle, the Jacob Cycle, God
influences, molds, and guides Jacob in increasingly personal ways. God influences Jacob throughout
his childhood, his journey to Haran, his journey from Haran, and finally, with one last test of will.
Throughout the guidance, God s increasing trust in Jacob allows for an eventual transformation of the
relationship, where Jacob morphs into God s Israel.
During the early stages of the cycle, God works through Jacob s mother, Rebekah, to do much of His
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Jacob makes his way to Haran, God finally decides to introduce Himself to Jacob. God speaks
to Jacob for the first time in a dream, during which He tells Jacob that, I am the Lord, the God of
Abraham your father and the God of Isaac...I am with you and will keep you wherever you go...I will
not leave you until I have done [the promises] of which I have spoken to you (Gen 28:15). Interacting
with Jacob through a dream and telling him that God will keep him instills within Jacob a sense of
security. Jacob can continue on his journey without worry, although he has yet to receive other aspects
from the blessings, God stays with him and God will keep him. This security becomes clearer when
Jacob wakes up and makes a vow saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I
go...then the Lord shall be my God... (Gen 28:20 21). Jacob s vow not only shares an interesting
imitative similarity to the promise made by God in the dream, but more importantly, Jacob refers to
God in a possessive way. By referring to God possessively, as my God , it might suggest that Jacob
has had a sudden insight, and now sees God differently. In other words, Jacob has experienced God,
the same God as his ancestors, and perhaps now realizes that even in what seems like an ordinary
place where one might just lay down to rest, God s presence has stayed and will continue to stay with

Advocating For Meriwether Lewis As The Face Of The $ 10 Bill
Advocating for Meriwether Lewis as the Face of the $10 Bill Introduction I believe that the
Meriwether Lewis is one of the most qualified candidates for being on the $10 bill. Meriwether Lewis
is most widely known for his part in leading the Corps of Discovery on their expedition across the
land of the recently acquisitioned Louisiana Purchase. The expedition took place between May of
1804 to September of 1806 and spanned from St. Louis, Missouri to Fort Clatsop in present day
Oregon. During this period Lewis, the Corps, and his former commanding officer and friend William
Clark set out to observe and map the Western lands. Along the way, Lewis and his companions
discovered many new species of wildlife and plants. Many of these species are represented by
sketches in the logs both Lewis and Clark kept. After returning from their expedition, Lewis became
the governor of the Louisiana territory and was given a generous slice of land in the new region. In
1809, he attempted suicide while on the road to Washington D.C. While Lewis was unsuccessful in his
attempts to kill himself, he later succeeded in shooting himself at an Inn. He eventually succumbed
and was buried just outside the Inn. A memorial now lies where his body was laid to rest. Throughout
the next sections, I will provide a more detailed description of Lewis s life and exploits, along with his
lasting significance both at the time and at present day. Early Life Meriwether Lewis was born in Ivy,
Virginia during the

Mammography Case Studies
Literature Review
This paper will review four articles that examined which modality is better for diagnosing breast
cancer while maintaining low dose to the patient. Currently, mammography is the main modality used
in diagnosing breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women and is
currently the second leading cause of death among Canadian women (Komen 2015). Breast cancer can
occur in men but this is uncommon. According to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation an estimate in
2015 suggests that 25,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and that 1 in 30
women will die from the cancer. On average in 2015 the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation collected
data that estimates 5,000 women will die of breast cancer in Canada annually. However on the
brighter side the Canadian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because there are other modalities that are available that can not only diagnose breast cancer but can
diagnose it better than mammography, these other modalities should be considered before resulting to
mammography (Raikhlin et al, 2015; Wise, 2015). A case study was conducted by Raikhlin et al
between July 2011 and January 2013. The study selected high risk women, between the ages of 30 to
69 that underwent screening of breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Mammography. The
results of Raikhlin et al.2015 study was that malignancy was diagnosed in 13 patients, and of those 13
cancers 12 were detected by MRI and 4 by mammography. Raikhlin et al research shows that MRI can
accurately diagnose breast cancer and can detect more than mammography can, and MRI can provide

Comparison Of My Life And Angela s Ashes
Sir Isaac Newton once wrote If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. And
autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life
experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and
real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in
one s life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something significant
in human history. This teaches us, with a realistic approach, of the opportunities and challenges one
has faced to reach where they are today. [Greeting] Helen Keller s The Story of my Life and Frank
McCourt s Angela s Ashes are prime examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most significant lines in Angela s Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult
perspective of McCourt: It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable Irish
Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother
moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters... It is his bitter attitude conveyed with
the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of mother moaning and pompous
priests to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his childhood which greatly contrasts
with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good natured attitude to balance the bleakness of
his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela
s Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner thoughts resonated within the readers through their
usage of emotive language to convey their experiences. Keller s writing style consists of mainly
emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn
touches the hearts of the audience further than any novel could. We would sit together of an evening
and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But in college there is no time to commune with one s
thoughts... When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am
improvident enough to prefer present joy to hoarding riches against a rainy day. Again, the use of
words with positive and negative connotations are evident throughout the text allowing us to grasp her
feelings as she compares her free past life to the restriction of education. The revelation of the inner
thoughts of the author establishes a relationship where the readers

central administration or stable infrastructure such as base. While nodes are moving in the network
they interchange the information to each other and may continue to move here and there and so the

Capital Punishment During The Colonial Era
The public opinion within the United States on capital punishment has fluctuated since its early
establishment during the colonial era. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped
by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race.
During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the
death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and
trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty
began. Beccaria wrote an essay in 1767 called Crimes and Punishment, that had a significant impact
on the world s opinion towards the death penalty (Bohm,1999). Beccaria suggested ... Show more

Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the
similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment
(Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a
strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made
illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the
South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South
(Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system
that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and
1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers
were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006).
After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support
for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999).
Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972
during the case Furman v. Georgia. Furman argued that the death penalty was arbitrary and violated
the constitution (Mallicoat and Brown 255 280). In a five to four vote, the Supreme Court

Japanese Culture And Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness Understanding culture plays a crucial role in maintaining and forming
international relations. It serves as a political backbone in peace and fosters agreements among nations
previously foreign to one another. Culture provides an outlet for individuals to witness the variety of
people on the planet we share. To gain knowledge and appreciation for a culture other than my own, I
have chosen one far from what I am accustomed to, the Japanese culture from the island of Japan.
Japan is located to the east of North and South Korea, China, and Russia. It consists of four main
islands in the North Pacific Ocean. Throughout much of its early history, being a nation of separate
islands caused for cultural and ethnic distinctions. The idea of accepting these differences was not
present until 1994 ( One People, One Race? ). Japanese is the main language with about 121 million
users. Significantly, there are several other languages known as the Ryukyuan languages that are
specific to the people from the smaller neighboring islands of Ryukyu and Okinawa. The languages
use ranges from nearly extinct to approximately 1 million users. They are mutually unintelligible
which means they are unknown by one another. Also, the Japanese have Eastern and Western dialects
that are unintelligible to each other, with Hyojungo or standard, proper Japanese and Kyutsugo or
common, slang Japanese ( Japanese. ). The variance in languages makes for a very diverse nation in

British s Government s Intervention during the Great Irish...
The Great Irish Famine happened during the mid 19th century, and was caused by potato blight, which
hit Ireland in 1845 (Grada, Ireland s Great Famine 43). It destroyed a big portion of crops so it became
lethal due to the fact that Ireland was very dependent on potatoes in their everyday meals (Grada,
Ireland s Great Famine 43). This led to a scarce amount of food and many died from starvation, or
other diseases that resulted from the famine (Grada, Ireland s Great Famine 51). In the 1800s, Ireland
had already lost their own parliament, so all legislative and executive power was therefore centralized
at Westminster, which meant the UK parliament of the British government was responsible for Irish
relief in their time of need, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The British government opened soup kitchens to distribute free food (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine
9). She stated that this intervention directly addressed the problem of starvation, and many people,
over three million, were fed on a daily basis (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). Although the soup
kitchens did provide free food, the government was unable to sustain that aid, because it only lasted
for a very brief period of time (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). Therefore, the aid did not last long
enough for it to be considered an improvement on social conditions in Ireland. Also, we must consider
that the government stopped previous relief works before they opened the soup kitchens. According to
Mary E. Daly, relief works were closed in March, and soup kitchens were opened in May (Daly 133).
In that gap, many people suffered and died from starvation, since they lacked any relief from the
government (Ferriter 15). This government intervention was poorly planned and did not improve the
social conditions in Ireland. Although the soup kitchens did eventually feed a large amount of people,
it must be taken into account the just as great amount of people that died, due to the lack in planning
on the government s part, by terminating relief projects before instating another. In addition, the food
provided by the soup kitchen were of low nutritional value (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9).

Macbeth Act 5 Analysis

After learning that Lady Macbeth has died, Macbeth evaluates his own indifference to the event. To
Macbeth, death seems merely as the last act of a very bad play, an idiot s tale full of pomposity and
drama ( sound and fury ), but without meaning ( signifying nothing ). Murdering King Duncan and
seizing his throne in retrospect seem like scenes from a script Macbeth was never capable of playing.
To morrow, and to morrow, and to morrow along with the other phrases from this layer of bardisms
conveys the mechanical rate of time as it carries this poor actor from scene to scene. The last syllable

How Did The Operation Mincemeat s Defeat
The Invasion of Sicily started on July 10, 1943, was a grand full scale Allied invasion involving about
160 000 men, and ten thousand vehicles completely dominating the Italian island entirely, liberating
the Sicilians. The major event leading up to this victory was Operation Mincemeat, considered by
some to be the most successful single deception of the entire war. It was an absurd plan intended to
seize Sicily under Allied control, through forging an identity of a dead man who never lived to feed
false information to the Axis. It involved a ludicrous amount of planning, judgement, and
consideration, but most importantly: good fortune. Despite the need for a carefully assembled
deception that would relocate the German arms, luck contributed ... Show more content on

Despite Mussolini s protests and conviction that Sicily was going to be attacked, Hitler fully believed
that Italy was no longer in danger, locating his troops elsewhere along the coast. The dispersion of
Hitler s forces tried to cover too much area, being less concentrated in power which ultimately leads to
his defeat. Operation Mincemeat had not only worked but had succeeded as a deception that changed
the path of World War II for the Allies. The intricate planning in Operation Mincemeat played an
important role in its success; however, luck, timing, and situational factors that were uncontrollable by
the Allies contributed to the success to a great extent. Without these unpredictable factors, Operation
Mincemeat could have potentially failed as a whole; however, the fortune that the Allies had allowed
Operation Mincemeat to become even more effective than predicted. As Ben Macintyre had said,
deception is a sort of seduction. In love and war, adultery and espionage, deceit can only succeed if
the deceived party is willing, in some way, to be deceived, and Germany was fully willing to play the

Art Analysis Of Breaking Home Ties
Breaking Home Ties was a painting that was originally created for the cover of a magazine. The
magazine was called The Saturday Evening Post. The painting was debuted on the September 25,
1954 edition of the magazine. The setting of the picture seems to have taken place around the 1930 s
or 1940 s, around the depression era. The painting has many hidden messages that the painter tried to
portray. This picture has a very modern perspective as well that is very fascinating. In the painting, a
young man and his father are sitting on the running board of the family s farm truck waiting for a train
to arrive to pick up the young man for university. The expressions on both of the men s faces tell a
story all on its own. The young man seems to be very optimistic, while his father is dreading the
arrival of the train to pick him up. The father of the young man seems to be upset and in thought. The
expression on his face looks as if he is thinking back to when he was young and the opportunities he
had or didn t have, but he also seems to have an upset look on his face because he is letting go of his
son, possibly even his only son. His facial expression looks as if he is thinking back on his life and
what it was like for him, but also what the future will hold for himself and his son while he is away at
college. The young man looks like he is looking down the railway in the distance. He seems excited
and anxious to leave for university. The boy s face

Importance Of The British Empire
The Cultural Importance of the British Empire During the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain was
the centre of a global empire, controlling nearly one quarter of the Earth. Although only a small
minority of the population of the Empire was actually British, British bureaucrats directly
administrated it. Moreover, Victorian age is often referred to as the period of the Pax Britannica, since
the territories controlled by the British Crown lived under a relative peaceful kingdom. Especially the
motherland enjoyed peace and prosperity; the only wars of this period were the sporadic rebellions in
the distant colonies, which, however, did not trouble the British citizens on the island (Greenblatt 1636

Spotify vs. Pandora
In the 21st century a battle over how music is delivered has begun. No longer is terrestrial radio the
only way in which listeners can discover new music, revisit nostalgic favorites and connect with their
respective age groups. Online digital radio outlets have become obvious replacements for men and
women between the ages of 18 34. In this day and age individuals have a surplus of options when it
comes to accessing music. However, many have moved away from physical products and the
technologies/outlets of times past. There are two prominent companies waging this war: Spotify and

With Spotify penning licensing deals with these three majors, Spotify has an upper hand on Pandora.
Spotify recently launched twelve new apps backed by the major labels. Pandora lacks such deals, as
do many other services. Because of this, Pandora pays a hefty sum in royalties a significant strike
against its business model . Due to the absence of deals with the major record labels that Spotify
has, Pandora not only struggles with expanding its music library but also with maintaining a feasible
monetary system. Pandora operates annually at a loss of millions due to complicated digital streaming
rights and bandwidth costs. If the service cannot combat the Spotify horde swatting at its crown,
Pandora will find itself permanently dethroned . The next question is obvious: what will Pandora do
to combat the increasing strength of Spotify and their listener base? According to Forbes, Pandora has

The Political, Feminist, and Religious view of Frances...
The Political, Feminist, and Religious view of Frances E.W. Harper, Phllis Wheatley, and Alice
Dunbar Nelson
Phillis Wheatley, Alice Dunbar Nelson, and Francis E. W. Harper were all groundbreaking and
poignant authors whose works have remained influential throughout time. Feminism, politics, and
religion are three aspects evident in their personal lives an d literature.
Wheatley was considered a feminist icon because she was the first published African American female
poet. However, her writing did not deal with feminist issues, rather, they focussed on religious and
political themes. Unlike Wheatley, Harper s femi nist views are incorporated into her work. She uses
religion as a method to express her political and social views. ... Show more content on

Probably due to the poor post revolutionary economy, this volume was never publi shed. After
Wheatley s death John Peters, her husband, went to the house of a woman that. Wheatley used to live
with and demanded the manuscripts for the second volume of works. Unfortunately these manuscripts
disappeared with Peters never to be recover ed.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Phillis Wheatley s political poems have been largely ignored even though she lived in Boston and was
a witness to many events that led to the revolution. Poems such as To Samuel Quincy, Esq; a
Panegyric, To the King s Most Excellent Majesty, To t he Right Honorable William, Earl of
Dartmouth, To His Excellency General Washington, and Liberty and Peace all describe political
events and figures. Each poem dramatizes a decisive moment in America s struggle for independence.
Wheatley writes a l ot of political praise poems, which means this, was probably a very important
subject to her. Since Wheatley was a domestic female slave she was very bold to compose such
commentaries which suggests that maybe an African tradition taught her that politic al praise was the
most important to all poets (Robinson, 93).
Phillis Wheatley was a minority because of her race and her sex. In the eighteenth century woman
writers were the visible minority and black female writers were non existent. Male critics felt that
there were to many female writers and that they wer e a threat to

Drowning in a Sea of Avoidance
Drowning in a sea of avoidance, I needed to save myself from this repetitive behavior that was
tarnishing my social bonds. In the past I was afraid of rejection or criticism in everyway imaginable. I
kept myself from relationships due to my own insecurities, which stemmed from my lack of self
confidents. To confine in a person one must be wiling to show their most vulnerable side, and not
doing so made me have unhealthy relationships with the people around me. Causing me to portray a
false image of myself to escape what others thought of me. These fears and insecurities had leaded me
into a downward spiral of pushing people away.
At a point in life we all suffer from some type of psychological frailty, not everyone is capable of
finding their own way out of darkness that has been created by insecurities. The book Love s
Executioner by Irvin D Yalom, gives insight on those who dealt with conflicts that ultimately
diminished their self esteem. Something good happened and she felt great, one criticism from
someone and she was down for days. It was like trying to keep your house heated with a furnace
thermostat placed to close to the window (Yalom, 221). This was a compelling piece to me because it
unmasked the exact issue of needing justification from others to feel good about myself. Having
control over something that can completely shift your sense of self is necessary to break the cycle of a
deranged notion of self esteem. Everyone has been critiqued at one time or

My Passion For Animal Rights
Do you know what you re passionate about? I think having a strong sense of passion comes naturally.
What really matters is how you channel your passion and what you use it for. With passion, we can
change the world for the better. One thing I know will never change about me is my passion for
animal rights. Since a very young age I can remember having a passion for animal rights. It came
naturally to me. It began with a love for my pets. My family has had pets in the house ever since I was
born. Cats and dogs became my best friends growing up. When my sister was fifteen she began
getting into animal rights. If it wasn t for her, I wouldn t have been as involved as I was at a young
age. When I was seven years old I remember her giving me a

accordance with two basic approaches: quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative approach aims to
test a hypothesis and examine the relationship through generating numerical data or other information
that is than converted into numbers, whereas the qualitative approach is more exploratory, aiming to
gain a deeper understanding of the research subject. Through breaking down and examining the key
features in each of these approaches it is evident that although they both begin with a problem the
researcher aims to understand they fundamentally differ. The table below shows side by side
comparisons, highlighting the differences that can be used to differentiate these approaches, described
broadly across three main categories. Qualitative Quantitative Methodology Interviews, focus groups,

Bayou Research Paper
Bayou Many places make people happy and make them feel relaxed. One place makes me that way.
My favorite place to be is on Bayou Bartholomew. I live on Bayou Bartholomew in Sterlington,
Louisiana. It used to be part of the running bayou. The part that I live on was cut off with levees years
ago from the other part for flood control, and it is thirteen miles long. The colors of the bayou water
vary. Sometimes the water is clear, and sometimes it is cloudy. It just depends on the time of year.
Also, just looking at it, the channel in the middle is very dark compared to the shallow water by the
bank. One of my favorite places on the bayou is The Island. It is right by my house. It is a large cluster
of majestic cypress trees. If I sit quietly enough in the boat and don t move, I can hear frogs croaking
and mosquitoes buzzing. Most of the time a turtle, bass, gar, alligator, and/or beaver will splash. The
splashes catch me off guard and scare me sometimes. Right now, there is mill foil inside the island.

do mostly, I fish down the banks. Bass usually hang out near stumps and trees. If I want to fish for
bream, I go to shallow areas near clusters of trees. Catfish are fun to fish for because I can tight line

A Study On Seismic Wave
CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF LITRETURE
2.1 Introduction
Most of today s producing naturally fractured reservoirs were discovered accidentally, they were
found by somebody who are looking for some other type of reservoir. Significant volume of
hydrocarbon resides in these reservoirs. But these are abandoned particularly in fields because
improper testing and evolution or because the wells did not intersect the natural fractures (Aguilera,
1998). Attempts have been made to quantify properties of such reservoir (Chaki et al., 2014). It has
been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to
unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired and
processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small angular
ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic properties
of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long offset and multi
component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. Seismic wave propagation
in heterogeneous medium is discussed by Chabak et al., 2012. On a smaller scale, stresses in the Earth
can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these fractures are aligned, the rock will be
anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and the slow direction perpendicular to
them. In ideal cases, these observations can provide

Science Stemming from Cellular Research Since the discovery of stem cells, scientist have been
studying new ways
Scientists have been using stem cells since their discovery to improve research and treatments. One
type of organ improvement stem cells have played an important part in recently is the heart. There can
now be a reduction in cardiovascular disease morbidity rates through the utilization of stem cells, and
worrying about compatibility and time can become a thing of the past. Through the use of stem cells,
repair, rehabilitation, and transplant can help or even cure myocardial necrosis. A stem cell is an

For example, scientists at the Texas Heart Institute extracted stem cells and anti inflammitory from fat
tissue from a patient that had had a myocardial infarction. Scientists then injected the stem cells into
the damaged area of the heart. They then studied patients with stem cell injections and without stem
cell injections. From baseline to six months, they noticed patients without stem cells damage area
increased by 5.1%, and patients with stem cells damage area decreased by 3% (Texas Heart). This
study had positive affects, as did a similar one. Other scientists induced rats to have myocardial
infarctions. They then extracted cardiac stem cells from the rats themselves and injected them back
into the damaged area of the heart. Mortality rates decreased, and scientists noticed the aortic and
myocardial walls became thicker to protect themselves from future problems (Beltrami, Barlucchi,
Torella). From the use of stem cells, cardiovascular repair can greatly decrease mortality rates and
increase quality of life for survivors. After patients have gone through heart disease, like any other
injury, therapeutic steps must be taken. Therapy and rehabilitation of damaged hearts has been
improved through the utilization of stem cells. Therapy includes strengthening of the damaged area as
to prevent the incident from reoccurring and getting the patient back to their normal life. Scientists,
again, used rats that had had induced myocardial infarctions. This

Costco First Of The Warehouse Club Industry Essay
Costco first opened in 1976 as Price Club. At the time, it was located in a converted airplane hangar in
San Diego, California, servicing small businesses. Soon, it realized that opening its doors to non
business members would result in far better sales. Thus, the birth of the warehouse club industry came
to light. In 1983, the first Costco warehouse location opened up in Kirkland, Washington, near Seattle.
It quickly became the first company to ever grow to $3 billion in sales in under six years. Once it
merged with Price Club in 1993, becoming PriceCostco, there were 206 locations with $16 billion in
annual sales. In 1997 it resumed the Costco name, and in recent years has reached a total of $64
billion in sales each year. As the company continues to evolve, it still stays true to its attractive
qualities that have earned millions of loyal customers around the world. They have a commitment to
quality. By only carrying 4000 stocked units in the warehouse, compared to 30,000 at your local super

Introduction: This paper is about a company called Adam Aircraft that manufactures designs and
ultimately intends to sell aircrafts in the aerospace industry. Rick Adam, a successful entrepreneur that
has a passion for flying, established the company in the year 1993. Rick Adam identified a need in the
market through analysis and research by various means. His passion for flying was fueled by his father
that served in the US Air Force. Pilots and computer engineers socially surrounded Rick, which gave
him an insight to knowing what the customer needed. According to the case, Rick described himself as

At first Ricks, biggest fear was that if the jets his company produced were not to be certified by the

costs and bills Rick had had to pay. Due to the limited financial capability of the company, it was
bound to fail if Goldman sachs; Ricks previous partner did not intervene and provide the necessary
capital needed to fund to company until it launched its products. The company s costs were on going
and high mainly because most the workforce included very experienced managers and marketers on
the top management level and for the technical part, they were all highly paid engineers, which also
worked overtime paid shifts of 21 hours a week. Having mentioned earlier the tight schedule and the
high costs as a challenge and a problem, I would like to continue with the problems that involved the
over seeing and analyses of the market that was performed by Rick. I believe the management team
was very optimistic in terms of forecasting success. Even though the products offered to the market
created a huge buzz but was everyone that praised the aircrafts going to eventually but the products?
No. I also believe that Rick and his management team were blinded by their passion for planes to
properly position and launch their products. They could have created a more solid strategy in terms of
the launching and exposing of the product to the public.

Estuaries Essay
Importance of Estuaries
Estuaries are very productive systems that have a large ecological and economic value. These unique
habitats that estuaries provide are utilised by many biota as well as humans. The importance can be
linked to its utilisation. Numerous organisms use estuaries as natural nurseries and complex
communities are present. Estuaries are are a valuable resource for the fishing industry and provide
spaces for recreational activities. Estuarine habitats such as wetlands provide water filtration and
carbon storage. Floodplains and daughters are utilised by the agricultural industry as they provide
fertile soil.
Many fishes and other organisms use estuaries as nurseries since they provide shelter, food and are
relatively safe from predators. Estuaries have unique habitats which have many niches. Many species
are specialised to live in these niches and result in diversification. This is also the case for birds and
other groups of animals and results in rich complex communities. Estuaries are a vital part of many
marine an estuarine fishes life history and can be used by juveniles or by adults depending on their
spawning habits.

Standardization For A Format War
1.Describe standardization, format wars, and how standardization can lead to a format war.
Standardization: Set of predefined specifications, rules or features that manufactures or producers
need to follow when they make/produce the products/goods or components of it. Example
MacDonalds set standardization for each of its menu items like size, weight, food value etc. So, each
food item need to prepare according to predefined standard.
Format wars: It is a kind of battle or war among the companies to set and control the standard in a
market. In other words a company set standard for its products, similerly another company of same
industry also set standard, now they compete in the market for customers and long term better control
the market. Example Microsoft and Intel had won format war against Apple computer s proprietary
system and later against IBM OS/2 opereting system.
How standardization can lead to a format war:
Standardization can be an improtant source of competitive advantages. Most of the cases one standard
become the winning standard, so many wars in industries occure around the companies for get the
winning standard. Thus standardization lead to format war.
2.Once standardization occurs, how does the industry benefit?
Standardization offers several benefits
Firstly standardization ensure compatibility between products and their complements (other products
used with them). Example PCs with software. The economic benefits here is reducing the products

to participate in the oral exam, where you have to play the role of an embassy officer and work with

  • 2. Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Test Of The Great... Throughout time The Test of the Great Bow has been interpreted in many different ways. Through Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, Thomas O Grady s poem The Test of the Bow , and Romare Bearden s painting The Bow of Odysseus. All three share the same story of Odysseus journey to go home, string his bow, and win back his beloved wife Penelope. All of the authors interpretations have similarities and differences shown through tone, conflict and theme through each piece. The readers are given three very different ideas of tone through each interpretation. Both Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, and the poem The Test of the Bow have very similar tones. They both have a powerful and revitalizing tones. This is because they both focus on Odysseus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once you know your own strengths anything is possible and don t doubt the underdog. The Contest with Odysseus Bow shows this by having the suitors think Odysseus is a poor, irrelevant beggar. However, he proves himself to be the strongest when he did not miss, not even a single top on all the axe heads. (Homer 65 66) In The Test of the Bow once Odysseus knew his strengths and what he could do he proved himself the master of them all. (O Grady 15) Bearden s painting shows not to doubt the underdog. Bearden made it appear that the suitors were not paying any attention to Odysseus in the slightest. They had no faith in him and didn t think much of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Role Of Thought Police In George Orwell s 1984 The novel 1984 written by Gorge Orwell is a satire about the socialist dictatorships of Russia and Germany. 1984 was written as a look into the future if political powers adopted a totalitarian government. The Government of 1984 is a totalitarian socialist dictatorship. The names of the government system are INGSOC or The Party. The totalitarian dictatorship, INGSOC, maintains and abuses power through the Thought Police, newspeak, and technology. The Thought Police are members of The Party who watched everybody all the time to see if they are acting against The Party (Orwell 3). Thought crimes include thinking an anti Party thought, writing in a journal, and physically acting against The Party. Thought Police help INGSOC maintain power because anyone who goes against The Party, even thinks an anti party thought, will be vaporized or tortured into supporting the government. INGSOC and the Thought Police encouraged children to turn in their parents for thought crime. The Thought Police help The Party maintain power by killing or brainwashing people who act against INGSOC. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Syme gives a description of Newspeak, in which he articulates that the words being taken out of the language are anti Party words. The reduction of anti party words means that The Party is making thought crime literally impossible (Orwell 52). Newspeak will also limit the range of thought by changing definitions of words. A definition change makes words only be useable in certain context and unable to be used to negatively describe The Party. Newspeak s shrinking vocabulary helps The Party maintain power because anti party words are completely extinguished; causing people to be unable to start revolts and commit thought ... • 4. Essay God Works Through Jacob to Help Achieve His Divine Plan God interacts with the world in a very unique way. He works by using people as conduits with whom He will ultimately achieve His goal of the Divine Plan. Throughout the Book of Genesis, many cycles of protagonists appear with whom God chooses to interact. In one such cycle, the Jacob Cycle, God influences, molds, and guides Jacob in increasingly personal ways. God influences Jacob throughout his childhood, his journey to Haran, his journey from Haran, and finally, with one last test of will. Throughout the guidance, God s increasing trust in Jacob allows for an eventual transformation of the relationship, where Jacob morphs into God s Israel. During the early stages of the cycle, God works through Jacob s mother, Rebekah, to do much of His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Jacob makes his way to Haran, God finally decides to introduce Himself to Jacob. God speaks to Jacob for the first time in a dream, during which He tells Jacob that, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac...I am with you and will keep you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done [the promises] of which I have spoken to you (Gen 28:15). Interacting with Jacob through a dream and telling him that God will keep him instills within Jacob a sense of security. Jacob can continue on his journey without worry, although he has yet to receive other aspects from the blessings, God stays with him and God will keep him. This security becomes clearer when Jacob wakes up and makes a vow saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go...then the Lord shall be my God... (Gen 28:20 21). Jacob s vow not only shares an interesting imitative similarity to the promise made by God in the dream, but more importantly, Jacob refers to God in a possessive way. By referring to God possessively, as my God , it might suggest that Jacob has had a sudden insight, and now sees God differently. In other words, Jacob has experienced God, the same God as his ancestors, and perhaps now realizes that even in what seems like an ordinary place where one might just lay down to rest, God s presence has stayed and will continue to stay with ... • 5. Advocating For Meriwether Lewis As The Face Of The $ 10 Bill Advocating for Meriwether Lewis as the Face of the $10 Bill Introduction I believe that the Meriwether Lewis is one of the most qualified candidates for being on the $10 bill. Meriwether Lewis is most widely known for his part in leading the Corps of Discovery on their expedition across the land of the recently acquisitioned Louisiana Purchase. The expedition took place between May of 1804 to September of 1806 and spanned from St. Louis, Missouri to Fort Clatsop in present day Oregon. During this period Lewis, the Corps, and his former commanding officer and friend William Clark set out to observe and map the Western lands. Along the way, Lewis and his companions discovered many new species of wildlife and plants. Many of these species are represented by sketches in the logs both Lewis and Clark kept. After returning from their expedition, Lewis became the governor of the Louisiana territory and was given a generous slice of land in the new region. In 1809, he attempted suicide while on the road to Washington D.C. While Lewis was unsuccessful in his attempts to kill himself, he later succeeded in shooting himself at an Inn. He eventually succumbed and was buried just outside the Inn. A memorial now lies where his body was laid to rest. Throughout the next sections, I will provide a more detailed description of Lewis s life and exploits, along with his lasting significance both at the time and at present day. Currently, mammography is the main modality used in diagnosing breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women and is currently the second leading cause of death among Canadian women (Komen 2015). Breast cancer can occur in men but this is uncommon. According to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation an estimate in 2015 suggests that 25,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and that 1 in 30 women will die from the cancer. On average in 2015 the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation collected data that estimates 5,000 women will die of breast cancer in Canada annually. However on the brighter side the Canadian ... Because there are other modalities that are available that can not only diagnose breast cancer but can diagnose it better than mammography, these other modalities should be considered before resulting to mammography (Raikhlin et al, 2015; Wise, 2015). A case study was conducted by Raikhlin et al between July 2011 and January 2013. The study selected high risk women, between the ages of 30 to 69 that underwent screening of breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Mammography. The results of Raikhlin et al.2015 study was that malignancy was diagnosed in 13 patients, and of those 13 cancers 12 were detected by MRI and 4 by mammography. • 7. Comparison Of My Life And Angela s Ashes Sir Isaac Newton once wrote If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. And autobiographies and biographies indeed allows us to look further down the path through the life experiences that great people have achieved. They tell us of the lives of real people, real events and real experiences which have occurred in history. Stories that reflected incidents that were salient in one s life, recounting their progress through the path towards possibly achieving something significant in human history. This teaches us, with a realistic approach, of the opportunities and challenges one has faced to reach where they are today. [Greeting] Helen Keller s The Story of my Life and Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes are prime examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most significant lines in Angela s Ashes is the introduction, written from the adult perspective of McCourt: It was, of course, a miserable childhood... and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood... the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters... It is his bitter attitude conveyed with the usage of words with negative connotations as well as alliteration of mother moaning and pompous priests to emphasise the suffering he had experienced during his childhood which greatly contrasts with the latter part of the autobiography which uses a good natured attitude to balance the bleakness of his life. This shows his change of outlook towards his past despite the pain he has felt. In both Angela s Ashes and The Story of My Life, their inner thoughts resonated within the readers through their usage of emotive language to convey their experiences. Keller s writing style consists of mainly emotional paragraphs where her inner thoughts greatly reveal how she felt at the time and in turn touches the hearts of the audience further than any novel could. We would sit together of an evening and listen to the inner melodies of the spirit... But in college there is no time to commune with one s thoughts... When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures... I am improvident enough to prefer present joy to hoarding riches against a rainy day. Again, the use of words with positive and negative connotations are evident throughout the text allowing us to grasp her feelings as she compares her free past life to the restriction of education. The revelation of the inner thoughts of the author establishes a relationship where the readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a combination of several wireless nodes that can build a network randomly. The study and growth of mobile devices and 802.11[2] Wi Fi wireless networks is on demand topic of research in MANE. Ad hoc network doesn t depend on any central administration or stable infrastructure such as base. While nodes are moving in the network they interchange the information to each other and may continue to move here and there and so the network must be prepared.Mobile devices are not having the centralized control, therefore they are free to move, and hence the topology of such network changes expeditiously. In the mobile Adhoc system, a number of influences such as physical obstacles movement, unwanted noise, and climate circumstances contribute to the trouble of precisely forming the actions of the lifetime of a link among two mobile nodes. The excellence of service must fulfil source end to destination end data packet transfer without packet loss. Data packets routed between a sender node (source) and a receiver node (destination) of a MANET often traverse along a path spanning multiple links, which is known as the multihop path. • 10. Capital Punishment During The Colonial Era The public opinion within the United States on capital punishment has fluctuated since its early establishment during the colonial era. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race. During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty began. Beccaria wrote an essay in 1767 called Crimes and Punishment, that had a significant impact on the world s opinion towards the death penalty (Bohm,1999). Beccaria suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment (Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South (Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and 1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006). After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999). Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972 during the case Furman v. Georgia. Furman argued that the death penalty was arbitrary and violated the constitution (Mallicoat and Brown 255 280). In a five to four vote, the Supreme Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Japanese Culture And Cultural Awareness Cultural Awareness Understanding culture plays a crucial role in maintaining and forming international relations. It serves as a political backbone in peace and fosters agreements among nations previously foreign to one another. Culture provides an outlet for individuals to witness the variety of people on the planet we share. To gain knowledge and appreciation for a culture other than my own, I have chosen one far from what I am accustomed to, the Japanese culture from the island of Japan. Japan is located to the east of North and South Korea, China, and Russia. It consists of four main islands in the North Pacific Ocean. Throughout much of its early history, being a nation of separate islands caused for cultural and ethnic distinctions. The idea of accepting these differences was not present until 1994 ( One People, One Race? ). Japanese is the main language with about 121 million users. The languages use ranges from nearly extinct to approximately 1 million users. They are mutually unintelligible which means they are unknown by one another. • 12. British s Government s Intervention during the Great Irish... The Great Irish Famine happened during the mid 19th century, and was caused by potato blight, which hit Ireland in 1845 (Grada, Ireland s Great Famine 43). It destroyed a big portion of crops so it became lethal due to the fact that Ireland was very dependent on potatoes in their everyday meals (Grada, Ireland s Great Famine 43). This led to a scarce amount of food and many died from starvation, or other diseases that resulted from the famine (Grada, Ireland s Great Famine 51). In the 1800s, Ireland had already lost their own parliament, so all legislative and executive power was therefore centralized at Westminster, which meant the UK parliament of the British government was responsible for Irish relief in their time of need, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The British government opened soup kitchens to distribute free food (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). She stated that this intervention directly addressed the problem of starvation, and many people, over three million, were fed on a daily basis (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). Although the soup kitchens did provide free food, the government was unable to sustain that aid, because it only lasted for a very brief period of time (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). Therefore, the aid did not last long enough for it to be considered an improvement on social conditions in Ireland. Also, we must consider that the government stopped previous relief works before they opened the soup kitchens. According to Mary E. Daly, relief works were closed in March, and soup kitchens were opened in May (Daly 133). In that gap, many people suffered and died from starvation, since they lacked any relief from the government (Ferriter 15). This government intervention was poorly planned and did not improve the social conditions in Ireland. Although the soup kitchens did eventually feed a large amount of people, it must be taken into account the just as great amount of people that died, due to the lack in planning on the government s part, by terminating relief projects before instating another. In addition, the food provided by the soup kitchen were of low nutritional value (Kinealy, Death Dealing Famine 9). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The major event leading up to this victory was Operation Mincemeat, considered by some to be the most successful single deception of the entire war. It was an absurd plan intended to seize Sicily under Allied control, through forging an identity of a dead man who never lived to feed false information to the Axis. The painting has many hidden messages that the painter tried to portray. This picture has a very modern perspective as well that is very fascinating. In the painting, a young man and his father are sitting on the running board of the family s farm truck waiting for a train to arrive to pick up the young man for university. The expressions on both of the men s faces tell a story all on its own. The young man seems to be very optimistic, while his father is dreading the arrival of the train to pick him up. The father of the young man seems to be upset and in thought. The expression on his face looks as if he is thinking back to when he was young and the opportunities he had or didn t have, but he also seems to have an upset look on his face because he is letting go of his son, possibly even his only son. His facial expression looks as if he is thinking back on his life and what it was like for him, but also what the future will hold for himself and his son while he is away at college. Moreover, Victorian age is often referred to as the period of the Pax Britannica, since the territories controlled by the British Crown lived under a relative peaceful kingdom. CRITICAL ANALYSIS Phillis Wheatley s political poems have been largely ignored even though she lived in Boston and was a witness to many events that led to the revolution. Poems such as To Samuel Quincy, Esq; a Panegyric, To the King s Most Excellent Majesty, To t he Right Honorable William, Earl of Dartmouth, To His Excellency General Washington, and Liberty and Peace all describe political events and figures. A Study On Seismic Wave CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF LITRETURE 2.1 Introduction Most of today s producing naturally fractured reservoirs were discovered accidentally, they were found by somebody who are looking for some other type of reservoir. Significant volume of hydrocarbon resides in these reservoirs. But these are abandoned particularly in fields because improper testing and evolution or because the wells did not intersect the natural fractures (Aguilera, 1998). Attempts have been made to quantify properties of such reservoir (Chaki et al., 2014). It has been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired and processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small angular ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic properties of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long offset and multi component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. Seismic wave propagation in heterogeneous medium is discussed by Chabak et al., 2012. On a smaller scale, stresses in the Earth can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these fractures are aligned, the rock will be anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and the slow direction perpendicular to them. I believe the management team was very optimistic in terms of forecasting success. Even though the products offered to the market created a huge buzz but was everyone that praised the aircrafts going to eventually but the products? No. I also believe that Rick and his management team were blinded by their passion for planes to properly position and launch their products. They could have created a more solid strategy in terms of the launching and exposing of the product to the public. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
