High School Job Analysis
Service has always been a big part of my high school career. I have grown into the person I want to be,
based on the service that I have done. With each service opportunity, I learn something new about
myself and the world around me. One of the most meaningful service opportunities I have ever done
was on Catholic Heart Work Camp, in Memphis Tennessee. I traveled to Memphis with a group from
my youth group, to perform a week of service in poverty stricken areas in and around Memphis. My
group was assigned to working in a Birthright office that was in need of cleaning, and repair. As I
started the week, I did not know any of the other teens in my group, and I was hesitant to work with
them. When we got to our worksite we were overwhelmed with ... Show more content on

By the end of the week, we had finished everything that needed to be done, and the office looked more
welcoming than ever. Another service opportunity that impacted me was helping out with my youth
groups Luke 18 Retreat. Luke 18 is a confirmation preparation retreat put on for the eighth graders at
Assumption Parish. I was blessed with being a Disciple last year; something Ive looked forward to all
through high school. As a Disciple I work directly with the eighth graders during the retreat. We
conduct small group meetings, give a testimony from our life, but most of all we become the student s
role models for three days. Leading up the the retreat, Disciples met to prepare for the retreat at
several weekend meetings. My eighth grade retreat was one of the best retreats that I have ever
attended. I wanted to do the same for the eighth graders that year so I set the bar high for myself. The
preparation leading up to the retreat can be taxing, and time consuming. The hardest part of the retreat
is the overnight preparation meeting we had, in which we were required to stay up all night working
on material for the

Letter To Queen Victoria Essay
In the text, Letter to Queen Victoria , written by Lin Zexu in 1839, he implores the Queen of Great
Britain, Queen Victoria, to stop her subjects from selling opium to the Chinese public. Zexu does so
by exemplifying the past relationship of China and Britain, by moral persuasion, and by warnings and
threats. However, Lin Zexu s assumption of calling British subjects as Barbarian and compliant to
Chinese rule ineffectively persuades. First, Lin Zexu exemplify the past good relationship of China
and Britain by stating that the past rulers and traditions of Britain are at peace with China, that both
nations benefited from trade until Opium outbreaks throughout China s population . Zexu states The
kings of your honorable country by a tradition handed down from generation to generation have

Lin Zexu stated that they will increase the common weal and get rid of evil , referring to opium
distribution in China. Zexu soothed Queen Victoria that if they agree to China s condition, heaven and
spirit will support her, give her a long life and fortune. In addition, he warned her that he who sells
opium shall receive the death penalty. Zexus, further imploring of the Queen of Britain by threats,
stated: if the merchant of your honorable country wish to enjoy trade with us on a permanent basis
they must fearfully obey our law in which penalties are decapitation or strangulation. In conclusion,
the 1839 Letter to Queen Victoria by Lin Zexu argued that Opium is a source of evil and pain and
appealed to the Queen of Great Britain to abolish sale and smuggling of opium in China. Zexu did this
through exemplifying the past trading relationship of China and Great Britain, also by moral

Other than the net income incurred in 2014, IMAX Corporation has been on a steady incline since
2012. Between 2011 and 2012, the net income increased from $15,260 to $41,337 and since then has
hit a plateau. The net income recorded in 2013 increased only $2,778, and since then, has shown a
decrease in net income of $4,379. IMAX brands itself as an internationally recognized entertainment

Capitalism and the Natural Environment Essay
Concept of capitalism can be difficult to understand. It is commonly identified by economist and
political philosophers as a system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated
in the free market in exchange for a profit (Galbraith, 1952). The economical/social system determines
the structure of production, the allocation of inputs and outputs, and consumption of goods. Capitalism
remains popular in America because it values freedom, much like the people in our country. This is
true because it allows individuals to set their own plans and pursue their own goals; in addition, one
can decide what career they would enjoy most, thus creating an incentive and reward for achieving
ones ambitions. In a free market, everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capitalism leads to the creation of unprecedented wealth, advanced technology, and wide prosperity.
Yet capitalism is denounced as a system of greed, materialism, and ruthless dog eat dog competition
One positive implication capitalism has to the natural environment is industrial ecology, a system of
chain production and consumption, serving to the lowest environmental impacts in a most
environmentally sustainable economy as the main goal of operation (Richards Pearson, 1998). The
Companies in a like to operate in such way because of four major reasons. The most important factor
is known as the corporate well being, for it is determined by higher profits and growth provided by
innovations in an industry. Profits are increased from recognizing the production ineffiency costs that
comes from wasted inputs and energy losses; this allowing cost savings to increase and ineffiency to
decrease. compliance with cleaner technology alternatives such as ones that produce less waste and
less energy will provide long term savings which are both beneficial to the environment and the
business at hand. A real world example freight company changes their salvaged driving equipment to
hybrid vehicles. Money is temporarily lost, but the gasoline and maintenances cost savings will
compensate in a long run period of time.
Industrial ecological systems are also used because of the consumer demand.

History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay...
For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil
War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in higher
education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to allow black
enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still powerhouse
businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their owners. The
reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher education
programs held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable of,

When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop and
embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white southerners
pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to receive what most
whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction
Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although more blacks were becoming
qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job demand shifted to industrial needs.
For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a broader, more useful education was a
beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker
T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly
that manual labor will be more beneficial to individuals because that was the type of work available
(Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E.
B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education,
with a conviction that Black life and culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and
investigation (Anderson, n.d. p.1). Considering the value of a general degree in comparison to a

Evaluation Of Glucosylceramide Synthase ( Gcs )
Abstract
Glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of
glucosylceramide (GlcCer) related glycosphingolipids (GSLs). In the present report we have used
atom based 3D QSAR method to analyze the structural aspect on a series of iminosugar derivatives as
potent inhibitors of glycosylceramide synthase. In this approach the experimental dataset was divided
into training and test sets and the model was chosen based on randomized trial distribution which has
high correlation factors. A ligand based pharmacophore and atom based 3D QSAR studies were
carried out on a set of 65 inhibitors of GCS. After the QSAR studies, a five point pharmacophore with
two hydrogen bond acceptors (A), two hydrophobic group (H) and one ring aromaticity (R) was
obtained. The pharmacophore hypothesis yielded a 3D QSAR model with good partial least square
statistics results. The training set correlation has these partial least square factors (R2=0.92, SD =
0.178, F = 843.9, P = 1.12e 15). The test set correlation has these partial least square factors (Q2 =
0.25, RMSE = 0.665, Pearson R =0.54).
After the QSAR studies, docking study is being carried out. The docking study will reveal the binding
orientation of the active ligands on the protein which will be completed in BTP phase II.
The result for QSAR and docking studies will provide structural characteristics of the active ligands
and also give detailed information about binding features which can useful

Analysis Of Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing
The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding. Whether
it is through myths Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old
war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are
multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not
only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of
the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice,
color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same
story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm.

against; in the way that Johnston, Haskell, Rosen, Williams, etc., all discuss what it was to be a
woman in Hollywood, omitting the way African American s were also poorly treated and often
vilified, the Caucasian suppressors in this film forget about the success of the Civil Rights movement

Introduction
The purpose of this recommendation report is to recommend the best practice for voter identification
and consistent voting laws in the United States. The audience for this report includes United States
citizens, US Congress, those aspiring to become US Citizens. Based on my research, I recommend
that the officials of this country come together to create equal and strict voting laws to ensure the
integrity of Presidential Elections.
Background
Throughout US History, voting laws and methods has evolved tremendously. Laws governing the US
elections date back to Article 1 of the Constitution, which gave the states the responsibility of
overseeing federal elections. In order to win the presidency, as it is today, the candidate needs a
majority of 270 electoral votes out of a possible 538 (Staff). You may be asking yourself why the US
determines who wins the Presidential election based off of electoral votes rather than the winner of the
overall popular vote. The reason being, our Founders rejected a direct vote for president; they needed

The Issue Of Food Safety
Food safety is important , millions of people become seriously ill every year by the consumption of
unsafe food. Major outbreaks of food borne disease have been recorded on every continent in the past
10 years and its on the rise. legislation is used to enforce food safety and food standards within the
meat industry as it is an essential part of the legislative framework to cultivate good safety habits in all
individuals, to engender a strong safety culture in the workplace. legislation emphasis s the
importance of managing workplace health and safety proactively and stipulates that every person must
take reasonably practicable steps to ensure the safety and health of every workplace and worker. Most
legislation comes from the European Union (Brussels) where it is passed to Westminster (London) and
then down to Scotland (Edinburgh) some legislation is passed directly from the European union to
Scotland as Scotland in the 1707 the act of union abolished the separate parliaments for Scotland and
England, and created a single parliament in London (The Scottish Government) . However Scotland
still kept many of its features including its separate legal system.

There are 3 types of EU legislation;
I) Regulations become law automatically in each member state as they are published by the European
Union.

The Importance Of The Great Barrier Reef
Some people consider coral reefs the most beautiful places on earth. With the plants and animals
progressing all around the beautiful corals, it is spectacular. Located on the northeast coast of
Australia, there lies a place just like this. This is the Great Barrier Reef. These coral reefs are called,
the rainforest of the ocean, because it supports a huge diversity of life. Coral reefs are more than just
beauty, they are a home to fish and other creatures. They protect humans against floods and storms.
The reef not only contains an abundance of marine life, but it is also the world s largest coral reef
system. It is so gigantic, astronauts could see it all the way from outer space. This paper offers an
extensive amount of information about the Great Barrier Reef, including how it was formed, the
animals that call it home, and how it is dying.
In the Coral Sea of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef covers the shore. It begins at the tip
of Cape York Peninsula in the north and continues down to Bundaberg in the south. It is called The
Great Barrier Reef because it creates a border between the coast and the Pacific Ocean. Having an
area of about 344,400 km, it is monumental. The reef, stretching between 15 to 150 kilometers from
the shore, is filled with brilliant, vivid fish and corals. The Great Barrier Reef was Kaiser 2 discovered
in 1770 by a man named James Cook after his ship scraped against the bottom of the reef. It was stuck

For students and teachers, having a chance to be in this cultural environment is a life s fortune.
Although today s social life is so different from the past, people are getting harder to focus on pure
academic research because of the distractions from daily affairs. Especially for higher degree students
that rely on independent research, which provides freedom, but also brings the problems of shallow
research. Currently, the higher degree education in contemporary ceramic art of Asian should

The Asian art academies are facing the same situation in the higher degree education of ceramic art.

Spark s RDDs function as a working set for distributed programs that offers a (deliberately) restricted
form of distributed shared memory. [3]
The availability of RDDs facilitates the implementation of both iterative algorithms that visit their
dataset multiple times in a loop, and exploratory data analysis, which is the querying of data
repeatedly. The latency of applications builds with spark compared to Hadoop, a MapReduce platform
may be reduced by several orders of magnitude. [3]
Another key aspect of apache spark is that it makes writing code easy and quickly. This is as a result
of over 80 high level operators included in with spark library. This is evidence as spark comes with a
REPL an interactive shell. The REPL can be used t0 test the outcome of each line of code without
coding the entire job. As a result, ad hoc data analysis is possible and code is made much shorter.
Apache Spark is well complemented with set of high level libraries that can be easily used in the same
application. These include Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLlib and GraphX which we will explain in
details in this paper. 2 Spark Core

Implications of Health Economic Concepts of Health Care Healthcare is an industry that encompasses
various factors to ensure that it s operating efficiently. Health care professionals have an obligation to

care. The government plays an enormous part in areas such as financing and the delivery of care;
therefore, the organization s decision maker must learn the economic functions and its benefits to the

According to Pendzialek, Simic, Stock Pendzialek (2016), An example of price elasticity can occur
when the number or persons enrolled in a health plan changes when the cost of the premium rises or
declines. Unbeknownst to a majority of consumers, they play a bigger part in how the price elasticity
transpires and how their decisions impact the health demand curve. Health Measures The two
components that are used to assess health measures are morbidity and mortality. Morbidity is the
percentage of individuals diagnosed with certain conditions along with the number of hospitalizations.
Pregnancy has the potential cause other conditions that were not present before conceiving. Diabetes
and hypertension are two health conditions that can occur during pregnancy. According to Kilpatrick
Berg (2016), Identifying morbidity in post partum women can be based on ICU admissions and blood
transfusion that exceeds four units of blood. The more people with ideal health will lower the
morbidity rate, however as health declines and new conditions arise that will contribute to an increase
in morbidity rates. Mortality is not solely the totality of deaths it s the number of people who die
prematurely. The measurement of morbidity and mortality are imperfect since all health professionals
are not reporting the information; therefore, a strict protocol needs to

The First Amendment Of The United States Constitution
There are many elements of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution to address. The
area of the Freedom of Speech applies to every aspect of our daily lives. An examination of this area
shows us why there are protected and unprotected areas of speech: speeches and actions that have
been debated throughout our nation s history and why they are important and have such an impact on
our individual lives and social activities today.
The adoption of the First Amendment drafted by James Madison, which was ratified in 1791,

Psy Chemical Senses
The human body is very unique and amazing. Everything that we do in our daily life has a process that
our body goes through just to make these things happen. It is so many elements phases that our brain
goes through for our body to smell or taste something. So let s explore this journey of smell and taste.
Impacts of smell and taste When we taste something it is a process. Molecules enter the body in a
solid or liquid form. They stimulate taste receptors on the tongue. There are five basic taste sensations:
salty, sour, sweet, bitter, and umami. Umami is the latest addition. It is considered to be meaty, broth,
or savory. Tasting begins with the tongue, which contains papillae. Papillae are divided into four areas:

Or a dish that didn t turn out right the first time you may have cooked it. These memories are called
the Proust Effect. The Proust Effect is elicited memories that are connected from structures involved
in both taste and olfaction to the amygdala, which is involved in emotional behavior. And to other
structures such as the hippocampus which is involved in storing memories. When we smell certain
odors or aromas it activates the amygdala and elicits emotional memories. I can remember my first
time eating Korean food and every time I see or smell it being cooked, I think about that time. Some
of our memories may not be so pleasant though. You may remember a bad memory of a certain food
that you may smell. I know for me every time I smell fire or taste the dust from the air, I think back to
the Iraq deployments. So some things that you taste and smell will take you back into that head space.
You may lost for a moment because you are in that moment at that time.
Conclusion
It takes a lot for our body to process the things that we smell and taste. Our sense of smell and taste
are connected and it may change as you get older. You may not be able to handle those spicy foods

years, growing more knowledgeable from our experiences and realizing that each of God s teachings
can relate back to us on a day to day basis. Each book in the Bible is like stories with a lesson. Mere
Christianity taught similar lessons to those in the Bible, but with a philosophical point of view. C.S.
Lewis could take his experiences and relate them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Nicene Creed, it is said that God is the maker of heaven and earth, and all things visible and
invisible. Lewis talks about a crown, which is a symbol for God and eternity (Lewis 137). Without
God, having created heaven and earth or having the power to create an afterlife, there would be no
basis for people to be decent or live just lives. The Nicene Creed relates to C.S. Lewis Mere
Christianity because one provides the creation of an afterlife and the other provides imagery of the
divine life to come. In the memory text of Ephesians, it talks about how God gave us Jesus Christ
through his will and then about the crucifixion of Christ and how that lead to forgiveness of our sins,
which was a fulfillment in Christ. The first two sections of the Nicene Creed are about God and Jesus.
The sections talk of God being the Father and Jesus is the only Son of God, then further down talks
about how Jesus was crucified and then rose again. These two sections are relative to each other
because they talk about Jesus being crucified and then rising again for the forgiveness of our sins,
which is the basis of the religion Christians believe

Aid For Airline And Its Impact On The Tourism Industry
Aid for Airline?
Qantas airlines are an iconic Australian business, which has heavily shaped the tourism industry.
However in the 2013 14 financial year, (Qantas, 2014, pg.1) due to falls in revenue, growing
competition and high expenses the airline reported a 2.8 billion dollar loss. (Mccrann, 2014) It was
then that the company felt it required government support to assist them in getting back on their feet.
Commonly referred to as a bailout and in this case more specifically a debt guarantee , this would
involve the Australian Government covering Qantas debts, should the company collapse. (Mcllroy,
2014, p9) There were mixed views on this particular issue between different MP s, different political
parties and against Qantas itself. After much debate on the issue however it was declared that the
Government would not grant a debt guarantee to Qantas. (Coorey, 2014) This essay takes into account
both sides of this debate and explains why the ultimate decision by the Government not to financially
support Qantas was justified.
From July 2013 to July2014, Qantas reported a statutory loss of 2.84 billion dollars (Qantas, 2014, p1)
and job cuts of approximately 5,000. (Boyle, 2014, p3) According to some commentators continued
decline of this scale would bankrupt the airline. (Mccrann, 2014)
There are several explanations as to why Qantas was struggling so much to remain profitable. One
being an increase in fuel costs of 6 per cent ($253 million). (Qantas, 2014, p1)This

The Safety Of Autonomous Vehicles
Smart Cars
Gartner has estimated that by 2020 there will be 250 million connected cars on the worlds roads,
which has left a considerable asking questions about the safety of autonomous vehicles (Scott). An
autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it.
Cisco s Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could
eliminate as 85 percent of head on collisions. One of the greatest problems that smart cars face is
getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people
would not purchase a self driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a
lack of trust in the computer to get them to their destination safely (Young).
Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the
traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending
less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which
will lead to a more sustainable environment.
Smart Trains
Nearly $30 billion will be spent in the next 15 years on the IoT projects in the railway industry,
according to Cisco. This is expensive because extremely old infrastructure will need to be replaced
with cutting edge technologies. The new IoT technology will be able to allow for more productivity
and a safer ride.

Elements Of A Dynamic Character According To Abrams
CHAPTER III
THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK
3.1. Intrinsic Aspect
3.1.1. Narrative Elements One of important thing in a story is narrative elements. Narrative elements
determine the story.
According to Abrams, a narrative is a story , whether told in prose or verse, involving events,
characters, and whatthe characters say and do. Some literary forms suc as the novel and short story in
prose, and the epic and the romace in verse, are explicit narratives that are told by a narrator. In drama,
the narrative is not told, but evolves by means of the direct presentation on stage of the actions and
speeches of the characters. (1999:173)
It can be concluded that narrative elemnts consist of theme, character, setting, plot, and conflict.
However, in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are Internal conflict and external conflict. Internal conflict happens in character s mind. A
character has to fight with itself. External conflict happens when a character has to face a different
force from the social environment. We can easily find external conflict because sometimes it is clearly
depicted in a story of a movie or tv series.
3.1.2. Cinematic Elements Cinematic elements or usually called as cinematographie elements also
have an important role in the movie or TV series. It is because viewers will see how a story is depicted
within a set of visual actions in a TV series. Cinematic elements consist of Camera Distance, Mise en

Voting Is a Right for Americans Essays
The United States of America, almost since its conception, demonstrated a shining example of what a
successful democracy should be. As citizens of a democratic country, we have the privilege to choose
our leaders and the opportunity to have our voices heard. Many countries around the world operate by
dictatorship or royal lineage. In these countries, citizens are not granted the freedom to elect officials.
Often times, these people face grave consequences if they speak out against their leaders resulting in
arrests or other penalties. You would assume, with this knowledge, that Americans hold the highest
voter participation. In a study from the 2012 Presidential Election by ABC, the number of American
citizens actively involved in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, when I cast my ballot to vote, I do so in honor of those who sacrificed and worked tirelessly to
guarantee my right as an African American and as a woman. My first official voting experience took
place during the Houston Mayoral Election of 2009. Unlike other voters young and older I developed
a strong sense with whom and what I was voting for. Mayor Bill White proudly served the city of
Houston for three terms and was tough to replace. I did my research on the candidates propositions
and paid close attention to their campaign efforts. My parents are strong advocates about the
importance of voting. They always lectured my siblings and me about how citizens determined who
got into office and how they represented the community. You had a problem, voice your concerns with
your ballot, my mom would always say. My father would often exclaim, Don t gripe and not vote. No
vote...no room for complaints.
Going off to an out of state college, I did not foresee problems faced with voting. Registration
methods vary from state to state. Across the country, college students face barriers with exercising
their voting rights. In some areas, communities debate whether students can vote as state residents or
vote absentee from their hometowns. In other areas, legislators debate whether student IDs can be
used at polls. When I participated in the 2009 Houston Mayoral Election, I

Don t Drop Out By Article
Congratulations on getting your article Don t Drop Out published. After reading the piece it has for
certain committed me to finishing my undergraduate degree. I m sure it is going to have the same
impact on almost all your readers. I say this with full confidence because you are speaking from
personal experience as someone who was on the verge of dropping out but decided to stay in the fight
till the end. You ve produced an effective article and I wouldn t change much to it. As a fellow
colleague and writer I do have some minor suggestions for you to consider. I would like to thank you
once again for giving me this chance to offer you my opinion on your article.
You start off your article by sharing your experience with the readers, who are most likely college
students and possibly some that are contemplating about dropping out. This allows you to establish
credibility with the reader right away and gain their attention. Then you go on to offer reasons why
you should stay in college or drop out. You give reasons from both sides of the fence and elaborate on
how you decided to stay in school out of understanding all the benefits to be gained. Hence the reason
you re writing this article so other students can learn from your experience and attain the same
understanding. Then you go on to explain in detail the value of a college education versus dropping
out and joining some start up company. Your article was effective in accomplishing its goal. Which I

Deyonne s liabilities and deduction of assets: 1. 35 sheep 2. 3 sheep
Due to the information, 20 acres of land equal 80 sheep according to the exchange rate of last year, a
one room cabin equal 3 acres of land and equal 12 sheep finally, a plow equals 2 goat and equal 2/3
sheep according to last year s exchange rate and 2 carts which were traded with a poor acre of land
equals 8 sheep plus 400 sheep. So Deyonne s total assets are 500(2/3) sheep. Deyonne s liabilities and

Therefore, Batonne is wealthier. Accounting game2: Deyonne s income of current year: 80 sheep
Deyonne s loss of current year: 1 ox (equals 5 sheep) Batonne s income of current year: 1. 20 sheep 2.
40 sheep (which were traded for 10 acres of land) 3. 5 coats (which worth 25 goats and equal 8(1/3)
sheep finally) Explanations: 1. Because it is the comparison of income, the loss of Deyonne cannot be
deducted from the total amount of his income. 2. Batonne traded 40 sheep for 10 acres of additional
land, but the sheep derived from his income. So the 40 sheep should also be counted as his income. 3.
Batonne s wife received 25 goats due to order of sailing, which should be regarded as part of income.
But the other order, which has not been realized, cannot be regarded as income. 4. As for the 18 sheep
that Batonne traded for food and clothing items and 7 sheep that Deyonne did similarly, they were part
of their original property. So they cannot be regarded as income. Consequently, according to the
information, Deyonne s income of last year was 80 sheep, while Batonne s income was that 20 sheep
plus 40 sheep that were traded for 10 additional land and 5 coats equaling 8(1/3) sheep. Therefore,
Deyonne s income of 80 sheep was versus Batonne s income of 68(1/3) sheep. Deyonne s income was

Symbolism In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven
Sherman Alexie s book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven was written using a multitude
of literary devices to explain what it is like to be a native American. The novel Alexie has written is a
combination of vignettes to show the life of Native American people through symbolism and other
literary devices. In the vignette The Fun House Alexie uses various symbols to present and describe
things in this vignette. It is in this vignette where Alexie brings the creek into the book. Alexie uses the
Tshimakain creek as a symbol to express that you need to look within yourself to find the strength to
change.
The creek in a sense is the symbol for change itself. Alexie uses the character of the aunt, Nezzy, to
reveal how bad her life is on the reservation. Her husband is a drunk and has gotten into reoccurring
car accidents, as indicated on page 79, where am I The hospital Again? Yeah, again . After she gave
birth to her son, had her tubes tied unwillingly by the doctors, to prevent her from having any more
kids. They lied to her to get her to agree to have her tubes tied. They told her it was to prove she was
Indian, but in reality, it was a dishonest trick. Alexie shows that Nezzy s husband and son are very
demanding, for she says, you re just a couple of ungrateful shits (Alexie 77). They take advantage of
her. They just let her do everything and don t think that they need to do anything to help her. Her
husband and son also don t help her. She asks on page 77 why the son didn t help her, and the son
couldn t stop laughing. This is the point Nezzy realizes that she needs change. The creek represents
change. It represents the washing away of the bad stuff and carrying it far away. Creeks never rest and
they never stop changing. Creeks and rivers change the scenery and the landscape around them, they
do the likewise for people, washing away the weights and the corrupt things of people to create
something new.
Nezzy is ready for change, so she looks to herself to find the strength to do so. In one occurrence, she
is merely lying in the creek. She floated on the water like that for hours, until her skin wrinkled and
her ears filled with water. She kept her eyes closed and could barely hear when

Privacy Policies And The Effectiveness Of Do Not Track
Privacy Policies and the Effectiveness of Do Not Track
Introduction
The Privacy Act of 1974 was established for the fair use, collection, and dissemination of personally
identified information (PII). These records are systematically maintained by several agencies in the
United Stated about its citizens, and residents. The disclosure of this information is prohibited but can
be accessed either by the consent of the individual or another agency with a warrant. With the internet
now being the free flow mainstream of information, as well as the common place for transfer of
personal data, for the use of different servers, new laws and legislations must be implemented to
regulate the control of such sensitive information. There are a number of countries that have
collaborated on this issue (such as France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany). The
European Union (EU) has uniformly mandated several provisions on the collection and use of PII.
While Switzerland does not have an affiliation with the EU, it remains compelled to sponsor, and
aggregate legislation that complies with the EU standard. In the US, there is currently no federal law
that officially mandates and regulates digital information. US states independently debated on this
issue regarding whether digital information is privy to the protections of privacy standards. Users that
traverse the internet develop digital footprints, which are an established form of obtaining digital
information in a unique pattern.

Analysis Of Broken Windows Theory
x
According to James Q. Wilson and Geroge Kelling in their theoretical article piece Broken Windows,
the Broken Windows Theory concludes that if disorder goes untreated in neighborhoods, the fear of
crime goes up in citizens and police officers, and more disorder will lead. The focus on police officers
obligating to socialize more personally with its citizens in neighborhoods leads to citizens having
more favorable opinions of the police and for residents to feel more secure. In effect, those residents
would think that crime has been reduced in their neighborhood. Although with the practice of personal
socialization [foot patrol] for police officers its citizens in neighborhoods, crimes rates have shown no
decline in crime, however, citizen s perception of police officers and their neighborhoods grow
favorable.
The function for policing of the Broken Windows Theory is for police officers to use the tactic of foot
patrol and socializing more persistently and effectively with citizens in neighborhoods, and perform an
order maintenance function. This function enables to gain trust and reduce fear in the citizens.
Moreover, police officers attempt to care to pay more attention to detail to citizens to maintain order.
Geroge L. Kelly illustrates this theory in his work of law enforcement. He describes his area of work,
run down regarding the heart of Newark [New Jersey.] His approach of work was order maintenance.

The Epidemic Of Influenza And Influenza
People are dying every second to a variety of reasons, some that could be prevented others where that
is not the case. However, experts agree that influenza and influenza related deaths could be
significantly prevented if people took the influenza vaccine annually. The influenza virus is a deadly
virus that has been killing people since the 1900s; in 1918 the first recorded epidemic of a strain of
influenza known as the Spanish flu killed approximately 50 million people ( Pandemic Flu History ).
Because people did not know what the virus was or how to fight against it, it spread very fast.
However, after the vaccine was made, later epidemics such as the 1957, 1968, and 2009 epidemics
were not as fatal, killing approximately one million people worldwide. Vaccines played a large role in
human history in fighting and preventing diseases from annihilating human beings. This paper will
discuss the economic aspects of whether it should be mandatory for hospital health care workers to
take the flu vaccine. Paula Sullivan, a seasoned nurse practitioner, discusses how influenza is an
infectious disease that takes place in temperate regions around the world which results in
approximately the death of 500,000 people annually worldwide; 226,000 people get hospitalized and
36,000 die from influenza annually in the United States alone (Sullivan). Most of the people who die
from the influenza virus are aged 65 years or older and that is usually because other diseases are

Golf Cartss And Teens Case Study
I am writing this letter regarding the recent statute on Golf Carts and teens. As a 14 year old high
school student, I completely understand how one may assume that we may be immature and unable to
think rationally with our developing brains when it comes to driving, but I would like to think
otherwise. While some may assume that all teens are immature, I would like to think only some are,
and my alternative option instead of a mandate hopes to remove teens who may be immature or unfit
to drive even a golf cart. Instead of enforcing a mandate requiring drivers of golf carts to possess valid
driver s licenses, the HOA Board can require tests or exams to driver s underage, required supervision
for a certain period, or simply just enforce an age limit of 13 14 years rather than 16.
To provide a little background on myself, I am a 14 year old incoming freshman student at Stevenson
High School who currently participates in summer school classes. In my free time, I volunteer for the
National Weather Service s spotter program and participate in a club volleyball team year round. I
actively participate in Tennis, Golf, and Pool activities around Royal Melbourne and wish to drive my
family s golf cart around, but due to the recent statute prohibiting it, I am currently unable to. Drivers
licenses have been around for 116 years and ever since 1901, they have been ensuring that people on
the road know how to cognizantly drive without injuring themselves or other people. My hope with

The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants

Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or
evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States
since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton,
reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the
next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We
Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and
Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food
franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in
quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The
abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence
consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major
health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more
than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease,
stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food

Amnesia
Amnesia is typically defined as partial or total loss of memory. The occurrence of amnesia can arise at
any age. Individuals who suffer from amnesia typically remain lucid and preserve their sense of self.
Amnesiacs can obtain a perfectly normal appearance despite the amnesia. Moreover, they also have
the capacity to read and comprehend words. Based on these facts, researchers have arrived at the
conclusion that more than one area in the brain is used for storing facts.
One type of amnesia is Anterograde Amnesia. Anterograde amnesia is defined as severe amnesia and

Another theory held by Anna Freud as to why we do not remember our childhood memories is
because children and adults organize memories in different ways based on their brain s development.
While still others believe that children begin remembering facts and events once they have
accumulated enough to be able to relate experiences to each other.
Another type of amnesia that is unusual but not uncommon is transient global amnesia or TGA for
short. TGA is the sudden onset of forgetfulness and confusion. It usually occurs following physical
exertion. During a severe attack the victim experiences total disorientation except for their own
identity. This is combined with a mild form of retrograde amnesia which subsides when the attack is
complete. Attacks usually last anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes and rarely last to be longer than
twelve hours. There is no other alteration in consciousness or obvious neurological problems. The
person s behavior is otherwise normal and they usually recover completely with in twenty four hours.
People suffering from TGA generally have a complete and rapid recovery. The only time in which a
patient is treated for TGA is if it is related to atherosclerosis, which is poor cerebral circulation.
A case was reported in London in 1997 by a man in his sixties who had regularly suffered from
migraines. He only experienced amnesia when he was having sex. He would ask

The Differences Between Stocks And Bonds
First Personal Assignment
Americans have a lot of options when it comes to where they put their money. Two of these options
are stocks and bonds. This paper will serve as a discussion on the topic of the advantages and the
disadvantages of both stocks and bonds. This discourse will attempt to compare the differences
between stocks and bonds, as well as incorporating various advantages and disadvantages to each
investment. Some of the basic differences between a stock and a bond include would be that stocks are
normally issues by a company or corporation. Bonds, however, can be issued by corporations and
companies or they can be issued by the government. Stocks can pose more of a risk because they pay
their investors dividends, which are not always guaranteed. The only way a bonds would not pay out
dividends to its investors is if the company or organization had to go bankrupt. Overall, there is more
safety in bonds than what one would receive with stocks.
Advantages of investing in stocks
One of the primary reasons why stock prices go up or down, is essentially, the profitability of the
company. LearninMarkets.com (2009) lists four advantages of investing in stocks. The first advantage
is compound interest. Compound interest is a miracle of the financial world. Compound interest, when

Rainforest Deforestation
Entire ecosystems are filled with unique species, and the frightening reality is deforestation takes the
habitat out from underneath its inhabitants (Bradford 2015). Forests have been cleared at a rate so
astonishingly fast, that over half of all known forests have been compromised. If this type of behavior
continues, the natural world will have to be given a new name, because nothing left will be natural .
Rainforests clearly have an outward benefits, from cleaning the air we breathe, to different diversity
among the species who inhabit this Earth. Organismal density around the equator is exceptionally
high, yet humans feel the need to clear much of that land for different use. Urbanization and the need
for more agricultural space play a critical role in how much land humans clear. What we as a species
forget is how all of these trees and biomes impact the world on a grander scale. Water vapor is needed
to complete the water cycle, but without trees constantly humidifying the air, the cycle becomes less
fluid. Sturdy trees like the ones in much of the rainforest hold the soil and anchor it from eroding.

the clearing of trees for land is the need for cattle to be able to graze (Holland 2017). Cattle is an

B. The story takes place in an imaginary town called San Piedro in 1954. The plot involves a murder
case where a Japanese American man named Kabuo Miyamoto is suspected of killing a respected

which facilitate the dealings of the various characters over the past decades.
C. Thesis: The belief of prejudice and discrimination occurs in our society in the past and present.
Each of these notions is a way to demonstrate the supremacy of one group over another.

for selling the land that he thought belonged to his family during the testimony of Etta Heine. During
Etta testimony the reader saw a flashback to a time before the war, which demonstrations to us that
Etta has always felt bitter against the Japanese. The flashbacks lend a hand in filling the gaps in the
story and elucidate the biases and prejudice on the trial.

quickly admits that race is an important part of himself, and it is that quest of race and identity that
pushes him to question his own uniqueness. Ultimately spanning both worlds of the vastly different
cultures of his life in America and his roots in Kenya causes Obama confusion and self doubt. It is
through the steady love of his family that allows Obama to truly find acceptance and identity. Linking
the two very different worlds not only causes Barack Obama to find an identity, but to find an identity
and take it as his own. Obama could be considered to be a third culture kid . These are children that ...

It is when his sister reveals the truth about his father that is causes a new perception of his father.
Obama s sister revealed that not only was he abusive but that he was a bitter drunk. After hearing what
his sister said, Obama started to think of ways to salvage the best parts of his father but could not.
Instead, the stories his sister told him about Barack Obama Sr. provided a way for Obama to revise his
life and to really dig deeper to find the true him. Not only did Barack s father help him get off the path
and create his own, but his father was another source of gaining essential principles that would help
him later on in life. It could be said that the most important principle Obama gained from his father
was the principle of forgiveness. This is seen when Obama is crying at his father s grave. While he
was there and crying he told his father that there was no shame in your confusion . Saying this could
also be seen as a way for Barack Obama to remind himself that even though he is confused about his
identity he has no reason to be. While being split between two worlds caused Barack Obama to long
for an identity and to take on anything that made sense at the time, his father pushed him to search for
his own uniqueness, his own true identity. Although other factors catalyze Obama and cause him to be
at a loss for an identity, he was finally able to find it in the end when he traveled

Aeschylus And Lucretius Essay
To start this free write off, I will begin by noting that both Aeschylus and Lucretius did a wonderful
job at portraying the death of Iphigenia and expanding on the emotions of all persons involved.
However, I believe the two did this in almost very different yet similar way. Aeschylus has a very
passionate and poetic feel to his writing, conveying the sorrow and intensity in a very dramatic way;
using a wonderful array of descriptive and emotional words to set the scene. On the other hand, you
have Lucretius, who was very detailed and straightforward with everything happening, using the
description of the scene itself to portray the emotions and explain what is happening. In the following
paragraphs, I would like to attempt to analyze these differences further. ... Show more content on

Defiled Diana s altar, virgin queen, with Agamemnon s daughter , this line almost entirely lacks
emotion, yet manages to tell the reader exactly what is happening and lets them feel the tragedy. For
me the most emotional lines are sinless woman, sinfully foredone, a parent felled her on her bridal day
, this again lacks a lot of emotion but successfully implies them. My favorite line is when he calls
Iphigenia a sacrificial beast, in a similar manor to Aeschylus calling her a goat. I think to call one style
more emotional than the other is a bit of a stretch. Aeschylus made the you practically feel what was
happening, leaving the rest of the passage to be envisioned by the reader with all the emotions to he
had given you. Lucretius managed to make it very direct, leaving it up to the reader to infer the
practically obvious emotions. Overall, I felt more invested in Lucretius writings than Aeschylus,
purely because I knew exactly what was happening versus Aeschylus where I felt more emotions for
Iphigenia but there was a bit of ambiguity for the situation she was

Analyzing The Poem The Frog Prince
Is a poem without any specific sound easy to understand? Possibly not! In most poems, a poet uses
assonance or consonance to draw special attention to specific parts of the poem. A poem with
assonance or vowels tells the reader about how low or high the sound is, giving them a sense of the
emotion of the character or the poet at that specific part. On the other hand, consonance determines the
friction or tone of a word or line, telling the reader when to slow down or when to read faster.
Assonance and consonance helps to create rhyme in poems; a rhyme is a repeated sound at the end of
each line that unifies the structure of the poem. In the poem, The Frog Prince by Robert Pack,
assonance and consonance are repeated to create a smooth rhyme. ... Show more content on

Pitch is defined as the quality of the sound. He uses words and sounds with same pitch at the end of
every line to form a unified structure to easily catch the reader s consideration. For instance, the first
four lines end with surprise , frame , body , and name (lines 1 4, p735) and all of these words have the
sound of se (ee), me (ee), y (ee), me (ee) at the end. Since e has a high pitch, these words are very
quick to pronounce and they create a unified structure. However, line 5, The joy she must have felt to
learn , disrupts the unity of the structure, because it has an ugh sound in it which is low pitch it doesn t
rhyme well with the first four lines. To recapture, the reader s attention Pack ends line 6 and 8 with
phases such as wonder and under. These words create a rough er or rh sound which indicates a major
and drastic change in the princess life. Moreover, line 10, 12, and 14 end with a heavy dah sound. For
example, it takes a lot of energy to pronounce the following words: read , bed , and said. Overall, the
dah sound beautifully executes the dramatic shift in mood, from the frog s transformation into a prince
to the princess mother s confrontation of the prince and princess in the

The Religious Of Religious Texts
Religious texts also known as scriptures refers to the texts which different religious customs take it to
be sacred or crucial to their religious traditions. They are normally utilized to infer spiritual truths,
evoke a deeper link with the divine, promote communities identity, foster mystical experience and
offering guidance to community as well as individuals on spiritual practices. Numerous spiritual
movements as well as religions believe that their religious texts are divinely or supernaturally inspired.
Additionally, the monotheist faiths perceive their texts as Word of God and strive to do in accordance
to its message. They also deem it as a divine revelation. In USA, numerous significant religion works
are discussed indicating how the US community perceived religion. Thus, this paper aims at
unravelling Frank Peretti s religious work in USA through his novel This Present Darkness as well as
how crucial it is within the broader context of American religious practices.
Body
Religion has remained to be a vibrant as well as vital part of the American society. Peretti in his fiction
novel elaborates on how evil tries to triumph and take over the small town of Ashton. This clearly
indicates that Christianity has not been constant in America and is faced with the immense forces of
dark power. Certainly, new interests and issues have emerged but they have not altered the role of
religion in the Americans life. Diversity forms the only characteristic that differentiates

Prostitution Controversy
Prostitution is, and has always been a topic of debate and great controversy in society. The definition
and practice of prostitution has changed over time, as a result of social, moral and political influences.
Sociologist Ronald Weitzer defines prostitution as, The exchange of sexual services for material
compensations (Weitzer 2012, P: 3). Generally sex work takes place in many different places, which
can include streets, parks, washrooms, brothels, hotels or private homes (Frontline Consulting, 2009
P: 5). That being said it is currently too difficult for the government to control or totally abolish
prostitution. The topic of prostitution has always created room for controversy due to ethical, religious
and traditional beliefs. As a result, women have become constant victims of public criticism and
attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sex work industry has changed and is changing over the years, similar to controversial issues such
as, gay rights and abortion. Hence, there will never be a black and white solution due to the distinct
views of what prostitution entails versus what the law intends to do about it. Decriminalization is the
removal of criminal penalties from an act formerly defined as crime (Weitzer, 2012, P: 49).
Prostitution should be decriminalized so the government can regulate public safety and the safety of
sex workers. This paper will also, examine how the government can regulate the prostitution business
and reinforce the feminist ideology. In effort to best present my arguments this paper will be divided

Mechanism of Melatonin Stimulation of Growth Hormone...
Mechanism of melatonin stimulation of growth hormone release via somatostatin inhibition
Joseph Angelo Israel Peguit
University of the Philippines in the Visayas Cebu College
Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division
Abstract
Secretion of growth hormone is affected by two primary hormones: Growth hormone releasing
hormone and somatostatin. The former is the primary stimulant to promote growth hormone secretion
while the latter is the primary inhibitor that prevents growth hormone secretion. Many studies have
already shown that melatonin stimulates secretion of growth hormone via somatostatin inhibition but
its mechanisms remain unknown. I hypothesized that melatonin inhibits somatostatin at transcription
level through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that any regulation of melatonin on other hormones happen mostly in the SCN in the
hypothalamus. The receptors of melatonin belong to the Gi/Go type of the superfamily of G Protein
Coupled Receptors (GPCR)[8]. The G proteins are coupled to a number of effector systems
influencing the intracellular signalling. They are designated as Gi/Go type because of their
characteristic being inhibited by the presence of pertussis toxin[8].
Transduction Pathway
The effector systems coupled to the melatonin receptors include the Adenylate cyclase, phospholipase
C, L type calcium channels, and ATP sensitive K+ ion channels[8,6,33].
The inhibition of calcium influx via the L type calcium channels may be mediated by direct
inactivation by the G protein[6] and/or through induced hyperpolarization by activation of ATP
sensitive K+ channel[6]. Activation of the G proteins results to activation of ATP sensitive K+
channels. The active transport of K+ ion intracellularly results to hyperpolarization of the membrane.
The hyperpolarization inactivates the voltage sensitive L type Ca2+ channels which only opens during
membrane depolarization[8,6].
Melatonin receptor activation inhibits activity of Phospholipase C (PLC)[8]. PLC functions to catalyze
hydrolysis of phosphatidyl inositol (4,5) bisphosphate to Inositol triphosphate (IP3) and Diacyglycerol
(DAG). Inositol

them on Parchman Farm also known as Mississippi State Penitentiary. The location of Parchman Farm

Their Eyes Were Watching God Transformation
In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie has allowed the audience
to better understand the limitations, and emotional challenges that women had to deal with in a male
dominated society. Janie s relationship with her first husband, Logan Killicks, consisted of tedious,
daily routines. Her second husband, Joe Starks, brought her closer to others, than to herself. In her
third and final marriage to Tea Cake, she eventually learned how to live her life on her own. Janie

Rhetorical Writing Style Analysis
Acquiring a rhetorical writing style
We all long to write like someone else, maybe it is like authors such as Mark Twain , J.R.R Tolkien,
Ernest Hemingway or Shakespeare although I think the last one is much more like a dream than an
actual aspiration but I desire to write like Stephen King and Stephen Krashen , and even attain to
imitate the manner in which they seem to analyze information, and translate such material in a form of
a well developed argument. As a consequence, it seems that the purpose of this summer assignment

Examples Of Analogy In Teaching
1.0 Introduction
Definition: An analogy is a comparison between one thing and another, usually for the purpose of
explanation or interpretation. It is similar to metaphor and simile; they are usually used in
conversation to relate one situation to other.
According to (Heick, 2014) other than conversational analogy there are analogies, which are formal
analogies, used in teaching. They usually are called academic analogies. These analogies are the
research based tool for teaching in science class rooms. It can also be used in text books and web
based learning environment. Analogy can be used to explain concepts effectively to the students,
which makes sense of the concepts to the students. This also helps them to understand easily than
normal explanation. Especially, the students from primary and lower primary are getting to know of
the science concept for the first time. Analogies make the subject interesting to the students from the
age group of 5 to 12. In Maldives, National Institute of Education has implemented key stage 1 and 2
for the classes from grade 1 to 5 fully, with the help of analogy teachers can easily make the students

Causes And Treatment Of Cancer
Cancer is the one of the leading cause of death both in economically developed as well as developing
countries (Jemal, Bray et al. 2011). Although a number of chemotherapeutic drugs can considerably
shrink tumor sizes, but they often fail to eradicate tumors completely (Sun, Wen et al. 2011) or have
other limitations like toxicity and very high cost. Resistance to chemotherapeutic regime is a major
reason nowadays for failure of anticancer treatments. Thus, there is always the quest for a molecule

which do not have toxicity for normal body cells. Herbs and spices have been the important part of life

  • 2. High School Job Analysis Service has always been a big part of my high school career. I have grown into the person I want to be, based on the service that I have done. With each service opportunity, I learn something new about myself and the world around me. One of the most meaningful service opportunities I have ever done was on Catholic Heart Work Camp, in Memphis Tennessee. I traveled to Memphis with a group from my youth group, to perform a week of service in poverty stricken areas in and around Memphis. My group was assigned to working in a Birthright office that was in need of cleaning, and repair. As I started the week, I did not know any of the other teens in my group, and I was hesitant to work with them. When we got to our worksite we were overwhelmed with ... Another service opportunity that impacted me was helping out with my youth groups Luke 18 Retreat. Luke 18 is a confirmation preparation retreat put on for the eighth graders at Assumption Parish. I was blessed with being a Disciple last year; something Ive looked forward to all through high school. As a Disciple I work directly with the eighth graders during the retreat. We conduct small group meetings, give a testimony from our life, but most of all we become the student s role models for three days. Leading up the the retreat, Disciples met to prepare for the retreat at several weekend meetings. My eighth grade retreat was one of the best retreats that I have ever attended. I wanted to do the same for the eighth graders that year so I set the bar high for myself. The preparation leading up to the retreat can be taxing, and time consuming. The hardest part of the retreat is the overnight preparation meeting we had, in which we were required to stay up all night working on material for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Letter To Queen Victoria Essay In the text, Letter to Queen Victoria , written by Lin Zexu in 1839, he implores the Queen of Great Britain, Queen Victoria, to stop her subjects from selling opium to the Chinese public. Zexu does so by exemplifying the past relationship of China and Britain, by moral persuasion, and by warnings and threats. However, Lin Zexu s assumption of calling British subjects as Barbarian and compliant to Chinese rule ineffectively persuades. First, Lin Zexu exemplify the past good relationship of China and Britain by stating that the past rulers and traditions of Britain are at peace with China, that both nations benefited from trade until Opium outbreaks throughout China s population . Zexus, further imploring of the Queen of Britain by threats, stated: if the merchant of your honorable country wish to enjoy trade with us on a permanent basis they must fearfully obey our law in which penalties are decapitation or strangulation. In conclusion, the 1839 Letter to Queen Victoria by Lin Zexu argued that Opium is a source of evil and pain and appealed to the Queen of Great Britain to abolish sale and smuggling of opium in China. • 7. Capitalism and the Natural Environment Essay Concept of capitalism can be difficult to understand. It is commonly identified by economist and political philosophers as a system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated in the free market in exchange for a profit (Galbraith, 1952). The economical/social system determines the structure of production, the allocation of inputs and outputs, and consumption of goods. Capitalism remains popular in America because it values freedom, much like the people in our country. This is true because it allows individuals to set their own plans and pursue their own goals; in addition, one can decide what career they would enjoy most, thus creating an incentive and reward for achieving ones ambitions. The Companies in a like to operate in such way because of four major reasons. The most important factor is known as the corporate well being, for it is determined by higher profits and growth provided by innovations in an industry. Profits are increased from recognizing the production ineffiency costs that comes from wasted inputs and energy losses; this allowing cost savings to increase and ineffiency to decrease. compliance with cleaner technology alternatives such as ones that produce less waste and less energy will provide long term savings which are both beneficial to the environment and the business at hand. • 9. History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay... For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in higher education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to allow black enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still powerhouse businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their owners. The reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher education programs held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable of, experience. When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop and embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white southerners pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to receive what most whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although more blacks were becoming qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job demand shifted to industrial needs. For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a broader, more useful education was a beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly that manual labor will be more beneficial to individuals because that was the type of work available (Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education, with a conviction that Black life and culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and investigation (Anderson, n.d. p.1). • 11. Evaluation Of Glucosylceramide Synthase ( Gcs ) Abstract Glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of glucosylceramide (GlcCer) related glycosphingolipids (GSLs). In the present report we have used atom based 3D QSAR method to analyze the structural aspect on a series of iminosugar derivatives as potent inhibitors of glycosylceramide synthase. In this approach the experimental dataset was divided into training and test sets and the model was chosen based on randomized trial distribution which has high correlation factors. A ligand based pharmacophore and atom based 3D QSAR studies were carried out on a set of 65 inhibitors of GCS. After the QSAR studies, a five point pharmacophore with two hydrogen bond acceptors (A), two hydrophobic group (H) and one ring aromaticity (R) was obtained. The pharmacophore hypothesis yielded a 3D QSAR model with good partial least square statistics results. The training set correlation has these partial least square factors (R2=0.92, SD = 0.178, F = 843.9, P = 1.12e 15). The test set correlation has these partial least square factors (Q2 = 0.25, RMSE = 0.665, Pearson R =0.54). After the QSAR studies, docking study is being carried out. The docking study will reveal the binding orientation of the active ligands on the protein which will be completed in BTP phase II. The result for QSAR and docking studies will provide structural characteristics of the active ligands and also give detailed information about binding features which can useful ... • 12. Analysis Of Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding. Whether it is through myths Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice, color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm. As I just stated, I have spent the majority of this paper discussing women in film; why I think all of this leads well into the analysis of this film is because feminism forgot/didn t include African American s. The audience for this report includes United States citizens, US Congress, those aspiring to become US Citizens. Based on my research, I recommend that the officials of this country come together to create equal and strict voting laws to ensure the integrity of Presidential Elections. Background Throughout US History, voting laws and methods has evolved tremendously. Laws governing the US elections date back to Article 1 of the Constitution, which gave the states the responsibility of overseeing federal elections. In order to win the presidency, as it is today, the candidate needs a majority of 270 electoral votes out of a possible 538 (Staff). You may be asking yourself why the US determines who wins the Presidential election based off of electoral votes rather than the winner of the overall popular vote. This is the Great Barrier Reef. These coral reefs are called, the rainforest of the ocean, because it supports a huge diversity of life. Coral reefs are more than just beauty, they are a home to fish and other creatures. They protect humans against floods and storms. The reef not only contains an abundance of marine life, but it is also the world s largest coral reef system. It is so gigantic, astronauts could see it all the way from outer space. This paper offers an extensive amount of information about the Great Barrier Reef, including how it was formed, the animals that call it home, and how it is dying. In the Coral Sea of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef covers the shore. It begins at the tip of Cape York Peninsula in the north and continues down to Bundaberg in the south. It is called The Great Barrier Reef because it creates a border between the coast and the Pacific Ocean. Having an area of about 344,400 km, it is monumental. The reef, stretching between 15 to 150 kilometers from the shore, is filled with brilliant, vivid fish and corals. However in the 2013 14 financial year, (Qantas, 2014, pg.1) due to falls in revenue, growing competition and high expenses the airline reported a 2.8 billion dollar loss. (Mccrann, 2014) It was then that the company felt it required government support to assist them in getting back on their feet. Commonly referred to as a bailout and in this case more specifically a debt guarantee , this would involve the Australian Government covering Qantas debts, should the company collapse. (Mcllroy, 2014, p9) There were mixed views on this particular issue between different MP s, different political parties and against Qantas itself. After much debate on the issue however it was declared that the Government would not grant a debt guarantee to Qantas. An autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it. Cisco s Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could eliminate as 85 percent of head on collisions. One of the greatest problems that smart cars face is getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people would not purchase a self driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a lack of trust in the computer to get them to their destination safely (Young). Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which will lead to a more sustainable environment. Symbolism In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven Sherman Alexie s book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven was written using a multitude of literary devices to explain what it is like to be a native American. The novel Alexie has written is a combination of vignettes to show the life of Native American people through symbolism and other literary devices. In the vignette The Fun House Alexie uses various symbols to present and describe things in this vignette. It is in this vignette where Alexie brings the creek into the book. Alexie uses the Tshimakain creek as a symbol to express that you need to look within yourself to find the strength to change. The creek in a sense is the symbol for change itself. Alexie uses the character of the aunt, Nezzy, to reveal how bad her life is on the reservation. Her husband is a drunk and has gotten into reoccurring car accidents, as indicated on page 79, where am I The hospital Again? Yeah, again . After she gave birth to her son, had her tubes tied unwillingly by the doctors, to prevent her from having any more kids. They lied to her to get her to agree to have her tubes tied. They told her it was to prove she was Indian, but in reality, it was a dishonest trick. Alexie shows that Nezzy s husband and son are very demanding, for she says, you re just a couple of ungrateful shits (Alexie 77). They take advantage of her. They just let her do everything and don t think that they need to do anything to help her. Her husband and son also don t help her. The focus on police officers obligating to socialize more personally with its citizens in neighborhoods leads to citizens having more favorable opinions of the police and for residents to feel more secure. However, experts agree that influenza and influenza related deaths could be significantly prevented if people took the influenza vaccine annually. The influenza virus is a deadly virus that has been killing people since the 1900s; in 1918 the first recorded epidemic of a strain of influenza known as the Spanish flu killed approximately 50 million people ( Pandemic Flu History ). Because people did not know what the virus was or how to fight against it, it spread very fast. While some may assume that all teens are immature, I would like to think only some are, and my alternative option instead of a mandate hopes to remove teens who may be immature or unfit to drive even a golf cart. Instead of enforcing a mandate requiring drivers of golf carts to possess valid driver s licenses, the HOA Board can require tests or exams to driver s underage, required supervision for a certain period, or simply just enforce an age limit of 13 14 years rather than 16. • 34. The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants Dru Olson Marti English 1A Sec V18 27 October 2015 Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton, reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food Environment Index, shows that the number of unhealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Individuals who suffer from amnesia typically remain lucid and preserve their sense of self. Amnesiacs can obtain a perfectly normal appearance despite the amnesia. It usually occurs following physical exertion. During a severe attack the victim experiences total disorientation except for their own identity. This is combined with a mild form of retrograde amnesia which subsides when the attack is complete. Attacks usually last anywhere from thirty to sixty minutes and rarely last to be longer than twelve hours. There is no other alteration in consciousness or obvious neurological problems. • 36. The Differences Between Stocks And Bonds First Personal Assignment Americans have a lot of options when it comes to where they put their money. Two of these options are stocks and bonds. This paper will serve as a discussion on the topic of the advantages and the disadvantages of both stocks and bonds. This discourse will attempt to compare the differences between stocks and bonds, as well as incorporating various advantages and disadvantages to each investment. Some of the basic differences between a stock and a bond include would be that stocks are normally issues by a company or corporation. Bonds, however, can be issued by corporations and companies or they can be issued by the government. Stocks can pose more of a risk because they pay their investors dividends, which are not always guaranteed. The only way a bonds would not pay out dividends to its investors is if the company or organization had to go bankrupt. Overall, there is more safety in bonds than what one would receive with stocks. Advantages of investing in stocks One of the primary reasons why stock prices go up or down, is essentially, the profitability of the company. LearninMarkets.com (2009) lists four advantages of investing in stocks. The first advantage is compound interest. Compound interest is a miracle of the financial world. Forests have been cleared at a rate so astonishingly fast, that over half of all known forests have been compromised. If this type of behavior continues, the natural world will have to be given a new name, because nothing left will be natural . Rainforests clearly have an outward benefits, from cleaning the air we breathe, to different diversity among the species who inhabit this Earth. Organismal density around the equator is exceptionally high, yet humans feel the need to clear much of that land for different use. Urbanization and the need for more agricultural space play a critical role in how much land humans clear. What we as a species forget is how all of these trees and biomes impact the world on a grander scale. Aeschylus And Lucretius Essay To start this free write off, I will begin by noting that both Aeschylus and Lucretius did a wonderful job at portraying the death of Iphigenia and expanding on the emotions of all persons involved. However, I believe the two did this in almost very different yet similar way. Aeschylus has a very passionate and poetic feel to his writing, conveying the sorrow and intensity in a very dramatic way; using a wonderful array of descriptive and emotional words to set the scene. On the other hand, you have Lucretius, who was very detailed and straightforward with everything happening, using the description of the scene itself to portray the emotions and explain what is happening. My favorite line is when he calls Iphigenia a sacrificial beast, in a similar manor to Aeschylus calling her a goat. I think to call one style more emotional than the other is a bit of a stretch. Aeschylus made the you practically feel what was happening, leaving the rest of the passage to be envisioned by the reader with all the emotions to he had given you. Lucretius managed to make it very direct, leaving it up to the reader to infer the practically obvious emotions. In most poems, a poet uses assonance or consonance to draw special attention to specific parts of the poem. A poem with assonance or vowels tells the reader about how low or high the sound is, giving them a sense of the emotion of the character or the poet at that specific part. On the other hand, consonance determines the friction or tone of a word or line, telling the reader when to slow down or when to read faster. The receptors of melatonin belong to the Gi/Go type of the superfamily of G Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCR)[8]. The G proteins are coupled to a number of effector systems influencing the intracellular signalling. They are designated as Gi/Go type because of their characteristic being inhibited by the presence of pertussis toxin[8]. Transduction Pathway The effector systems coupled to the melatonin receptors include the Adenylate cyclase, phospholipase C, L type calcium channels, and ATP sensitive K+ ion channels[8,6,33]. The inhibition of calcium influx via the L type calcium channels may be mediated by direct inactivation by the G protein[6] and/or through induced hyperpolarization by activation of ATP sensitive K+ channel[6]. Activation of the G proteins results to activation of ATP sensitive K+ channels. The active transport of K+ ion intracellularly results to hyperpolarization of the membrane. The hyperpolarization inactivates the voltage sensitive L type Ca2+ channels which only opens during membrane depolarization[8,6]. Resistance to chemotherapeutic regime is a major reason nowadays for failure of anticancer treatments. Thus, there is always the quest for a molecule which have anti proliferative activity against drug sensitive as well as drug resistant cancer cell and which do not have toxicity for normal body cells. Herbs and spices have been the important part of life since the beginning of civilization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black pepper very famous spices could be called as king of spices as found on most dinner tables worldwide and is being used for centuries in Ayurveda (D Cruz S and Mathur 2005) (Bang, Oh da et al. 2009). Besides this, it has been used as preservative and insecticide (Srinivasan 2007). Piperine is an alkaloid extracted from seeds of Piperaceae family plants, black pepper (3 9 %) and long pepper (3 5 %) which are cultivated on a large scale in India and therefore, readily available (Kumar, Raman et al. 2012). Figure 1: Chemical structures of piperine. Piperine is also known as (E,E) 1 piperoylpiperidine and (E,E) 1 [5 (1, 3 benzodioxol 5 y1) 1 oxo 2, 4 pentdienyl] piperidine. Piperine is the first and most potent bio enhancer to this date (Atal and Bedi 2010). It enhances the bioavailability of many drugs by increasing the absorption from the intestine, suppressing the xenobiotics of drug by the body in pulmonary and hepatic tissues via inhibiting CYP3A4 and inhibiting P glycoprotein (Atal, Dubey et al. 1985; Bhardwaj, Glaeser et al. 2002; Makhov, Golovine et al. 2012). P glycoprotein is an ATP dependent efflux transporter that pumps various drug molecules out of the cancer cells (Zhu, Wang et al. 2007) and responsible for multidrug resistance (Ampasavate, Sotanaphun et al. 2010). Piperine have anti microbial and anti parasitic (Raay, Medda et al. 1999) suppress the nuclear import and activation of NF κB (Sun, Wen et al. 2011) have anti inflammatory (Vaibhav, ...
